Reviews (page 3 of 13)

Increasingly thinking that Simon & Garfunkel were top 5 60s artists. The title track and Only Living Boy are two of the loveliest songs you will ever hear. Not quite up there with Bookends but another classic.

This album deserves a 5 for Baby Driver alone, and from looking at other reviews that's not even considered one of the better songs on here. What an unbelievable album this is! Banger after banger, traversing genres and emotions like it's nothing. The haunting Garfunkel vocals on the opening track, the ripping sax solo on Baby Driver, the weird percussion, the harmonies, the flutes... GOOD GOD MAN, THE FLUTES! In some ways it's sad that this is the last album that Simon and Garfunkel created together, and one that was fraught with turmoil and (as Paul Simon put it) "personality abrasions", but also... What a way to go out! Truly one of the greatest albums ever made, and one that genuinely embodies the idea of this list. This is one everyone should hear before they die.

Awesome. The title track is great, and Cecilia and The Boxer are classics. I did not know Keep the Customer Satisfied yet but it’s a favourite. 5 stars.

Boah immer wieder nice.

I started several of my “trips” with this album (on vinyl — one of my first ones). And every time ending of “Boxer” pushed my mind to “check out”. That was first album, that I discover for myself. When I was a teenager there always were suggestion, recommendations, and I knew “S&G”, but they were “folk guys”, Sound of Silence and stuff like that. And one day I heard “Bridge over Troubled Water” song, liked it very much, and surprised that they were more than I thought. And some time later I just saw this album, and I think “Ok, I will listen, maybe song or two would be awesome there”… And I was shocked. Cause you’re expecting at least something, when you listen to Beatles, LZ, Wonder and cats like that. But here I just wanted something nice to listen to. But 40 minutes after I was “reborn”. First time in my life I was REALLY, without a doubt believing that music magic is real, it’s not a fluke, it’s not just “your brain makes it pleasant because of repetition”. I truly didn’t heard any of this songs (even BoTW I heard only two-three times). And most of my music were completely different ballpark. And I was amazed, I was enchanted, I felt what is it to know whole-heartedely 1000% that you just heard one of your favorite albums. Almost 20 years later, and I don’t have any doubts which album I would put on a turntable after I’ve swallow my “ticket to ride” next time.

So many great tracks on this. It can feel a little too steady overall but tracks like Cecelia and The Boxer bring the energy up just enough that I keep interested. Really, Simon and Garfunkel have such wonderful harmonies with rich lyrics that even though things may feel bland at times, there is a calm beauty that this album really nails.

Favorite tracks: Baby Driver, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia Kicking myself for not paying enough attention to Simon & Garfunkel before now! I made the (incorrect) assumption that I often do with 60s/70s folk rock that it would be boring and/or repetitive and I am here to say I WAS DEAD WRONG AND I AM SO SORRY

An all timer - one of the best albums to have ever been made. I love everything about this one.

One of the greatest albums of all time.

There are no flaws here. It’s an immaculate recording. Paul Simon is a genius. 5/5

No build up, straight in with Bridge Over Troubled Water. There's at least your first four stars already. It's an insanely good song. Then some pleasant silly songs, at least a couple more stone cold classics, and one weird one. I think it was the only good album my parents owned. It's a 5 from me.

The first 8 tracks are perfection. Sublime harmonies

Usually albums that play the strongest song first tend to suffer as they set the bar too high for the rest of the track list. This is the one exception where not only do Simon and Garfunkel blow their load on song one (don’t visualize that), they fucking met the bar they set on track one. If there were any album to mark the end of S&G’s discography, this was it. The writing and harmonies are top notch. It’s practically the bar for every folk album to reach for. A masterpiece that makes some weird decisions (putting a live track right before the end, the entirely of So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright despite being a banger), but pulls through every time. One of the few albums that feels like you must do before you die. Favorite track: Bridge Over Troubled Water Other hits: Cecilia, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York, Why Don’t You Write Me, Song for the Asking, So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright

Läläläii läläläii aka the boxer Cecilia El condor pas Was für schöni träcks Mach i zum erste mal i mim Lebe e back to back 5er Bewertig?

Beautiful album

Absolutely beautiful. It was a joy to listen to this record. I could come back to this.

Bridge Over Troubled Water always brings tears to my eyes. It is just so beautiful and the lyrics are unbeatable. And then what comes next, is just as good! This album won't be pure nostalgia to everyone, but I think it would still pull on the heart strings of the younger generation. The best folk rock duo EVER, period!

Great harmonies. Great songs

It's great. A mix of folk, pop and rock'n'roll, even some minimalist country influences. Beautifully sung and full of songs that stand the test of time. An album that aged incredibly well, for the type of music it contains. 4.5/5

Bery goog

Absolutely beautiful

Some of their best work, peaking with The Boxer, which is one of the best songs ever written. There aren't any other duds, and this is as lively and vibrant as Simon & Garfunkel can be. Not always in the mood for this, but it's a great album.

Always a joy to listen to

Every song is great in its own way.

Beautiful and perfect.

Three older sisters, this and the first S&G album Bookends were in constant play around my house for about 5 years, we sung the whole thing from memory on all car trips. The title track is a beautiful performance, but I've never liked its rescue fantasy or its screwed up smilie of laying me down and easing your heart like a bridge, but can't deny how great a song it is, and like wiz-kid sez, the rest is bangers all the way down.

*1970. *I love this album BUT I do admit it (understandably) does sound a bit dated at times, but not 55 years old! *So many hits: Bridge Over Troubled Water, El Condor Pasa, Cecilia, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York RATING - 9/10

Klassikko

Nyt on hieno levy! Täydet pojot heittämällä. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Olisin voinut antaa 5 tähteä kuulemattakin. Silti oon iloinen että kuuntelin!

Very few perfect albums out there. This has got to come close.

This site picked a great time to give me this album, because I've been really getting back into it the past few weeks! In the past, I've preferred Sounds of Silence and Bookends, but now I'm ready to come to the same conclusion as everyone else on this. They do slow and pretty very well obviously, but even the attempts at uptempo rockers work out and feel worth your time!

The title track and The Boxer are both 10/10 songs, so the rest of these tracks could have just been white noise and it would have still got a positive score. Luckily, it's a brilliant record all the way through. 5 Stars.

An example of a perfect album. I mean, come on guys leave some hits for the rest of us.

Bridge over troubled water came on, and I audibly said 'There is no way they come close to topping this song, they should have saved it for the finale, what an epic ballad'. Sang that song back in the day when I took singing lessons with an older lady named Joy, didn't know these 2 wrote it! Anyway I don't think they topped it with epicness, but they did fill the rest of the album with BANGERS, one after another, Boxer, Cecilia, etc. 9.5 or 10/10

Finally a fucking decent album. Not only decent, a great fucking album. Beautiful voices and lyrics. Perfect.

Great duo, great vocals, great harmonies, great songs. Great album.

To this day, anytime I picture Mr. Garfunkel in my head, he always has a mustache because of this album cover. This album is currently my favorite album I’ve listened to for this project. A lot of albums that have several hits and classics that I’ve heard before have the consequence of creating such a large gap between those songs and the rest of the songs that end up sounding like filler. To me, this album had no bad song and all of them stood high on the same level, which is saying a lot because The Boxer and The Only Living Boy in New York are some of my favorite all time songs. For other albums, it takes time for me to really appreciate them, but this was so enjoyable and accessible right from the first listen. Such a great album and one that will hold onto for a while.

As far as songwriting goes, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Fantastic. Such a classic album with litterally no bad songs. Bridge Over Troubled Water (song) is so monumental. It's majestic and the ultimate friendship (?) anthem. Viva Paul, viva Art

Such a great album. Among the best ever.

Unvergessliches Album mit zeitlosen Songs … „Like a Bridge over troubled water“ 😊, „El Condor Pasa“ und „Boxer” .. was brauch man mehr zum glücklich sein.

Phenomenal album, but everyone knows that. Favorite song "The Only Living Boy in New York" 5/5

blast from my past. still purely beautiful

Goated

Iconic! Just a beautiful album to listen to.

What a classic. So many good ones and the rest is solid

One of my absolute favorite albums. Only (minor) negative is the inclusion of the life recording of Bye Bye Love never really understood that decission. But that is a very minor gripe.

the flutes? the horns? absolutely inctedible

Classic. Cecilia is the best Beatles track not written by the Beatles and The Boxer is an all-timer but there are several classic tracks on this album. I’d never heard Baby Driver before. Superb. Sticking a live track on here was an odd decision though. My teenage lad just came in and asked if I was listening to The Beatles. Can’t get higher praise than that.

Classic and fond memories for me

Alwaysbgreat

Excellent, mais le mixage est vraiment rough.

Love this one!

everything to me

Fantastic album, an all time great. Almost entirely classics.

5/5 their best album sm bangers on this and childhood favorite cecilia

Great. They have 3 albums in the book. This is the best. All hits, no misses. Favorite song: Cecilia

Great album and I must have had this album years ago as it was surprisingly familiar.

Ending my night listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water. 55 years on and that title track still stops me cold. Absolute goosebumps every time. I can remember singing El Condor Pasa and Cecilia in the backseat of my mom’s car like it was yesterday, and I still get the same feeling now as I did then. The Boxer is an anthem. The Only Living Boy in New York might be the most beautiful thing they ever recorded. And even Baby Driver, Keep the Customer Satisfied, and So Long Frank Lloyd Wright feel like classics. One of the rare albums where every track feels carved in stone. sail on, silvergirl

Beautiful

Perfect

Hard to beat!

just brilliant ahg

One of my all time favourite albums. There are no duds here. Each song is amazing.

this is the good stuff

This is the best so far by a mile. Almost all hits and no misses. Opening 4 song run is godly. The boxer, Boy in New York and song for the asking too, I just love this album.

6/5 This is musical perfection. If you don't believe me, listen to this again, but on a HiFi sound system or good headphones.

I love S&G. Back in high school I had this one on CD and my GF, now wife, thought it was my dad’s. She’s an old soul and was rather impressed that an immature kid like me had seemingly mismatched tastes in music. I think it’s what closed the deal to be honest.

10/10 So here it is - one of the three albums I think of when I consider my top records of all time. Immaculate song writing and epic songs. Bye Bye Love is odd and I'm sure in hindsight they would have dropped it, but the rest is so good I ain't going to complain.

Excellent

Classic album. A really unique sound that doesn’t get old.

Enjoyable. Loved this album

A nice folk-rock album. Full of beautiful, dramatic songs with great vocals and instrumentals.

A classic. Great lyrics and harmonies.

This was always going to be a 5. Not saying I love every song, but it starts with three lifelong top favourites and also The Boxer, and ‘So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright’ can be sung as ‘So Long, Sir John Soane’…

Very beautiful, very genuine, I love these guys :)

Simply outstanding!

Just straight up beautiful, absolutely wowed me.

Doesn’t deserve anything less than five stars, even with that dreadful “live” recording of Bye Bye Love. Bookends then this album make one of the all time one-two punches.

S&G will always receive 5 stars from me.

a pretty great album to relisten to

Sounds like a greatest hits album. Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel

So many hits on this album Highlights: - Baby Driver - Keep the Customer Satisfied - Bridge Over Troubled Water

Classic album. I know the style is a little dated, but you can't deny how central this album is to music. Amazing songs, peaceful sound. My Rating; 5/5

What an album! Musically brilliant. Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Boxer, Cecilia, The Only Living Boy in New York, Baby Driver are all brilliant. The album takes me back to when I was a kid and Mum & Dad would play the album. My brother and I would run around acting out to Baby Driver

Mes débuts d'écoute musicale lorsque j'étais jeunot: Simon & Garfunkel, les Beatles et Bob Dylan.

I can gather all the news I need from the weather report.

Baby Driver, the only living boy in new york, la chanson titre, toutes de magnifiques chansons. Bref, un revenez-y. Ah pi Garfunkel y chante bien.

Stunning. So much diversity in the genre and instrumentation of the songs. Yet they all sound so genuinely beautiful. I continue to be impressed and really moved by Simon & Garfunkel.

Listening to these guys always puts a smile on my face. The way they harmonize is church choir worthy! To boot it almost seems each song features its own musical instrument guest. We have piano. Flute, harmonica etc...I enjoyed this album.

Beautiful classic album

Surprisingly good. Got to keep the customer satisfied is immense.

This it’s one of the albums ever present in my childhood so I know it very well and it was great to revisit. Intelligent lyrics, great melodies, a variety of sounds, beautiful vocals, numerous songs which have stood the test of time all in one album.

Deserves all the recognition it gets. Probably in my top 10 albums of all time. "The Boxer" and "The Only Living Boy In New York" >>>>>>>>>>

I really love this albums. Pauls songwriting and Garfunkel voice - just Amazing. Those songs will be covered and remembered by generations . You can dance you can cry. Ohh .

nostalgic running away from home to new york vibes. looking over a bridge in the snow charlie brown style. immaculate vibes.

Love folk rock

An absolute classic! Listen to the first few songs and you see the depth of Paul Simon's songwriting. Angelic is the word I would use to describe Art Garfunkel's voice. Liked Songs Added: Bridge Over Troubled Water Cecilia The Boxer Song For The Asking

Imagine an album containing the song Bridge Over Troubled Water, and that song arguably being not in the top three songs on that album. It's hard to fathom. This really and truly is Simon and Garfunkel at their finest. A duo in perfect unison, all while rancorously falling apart behind the scenes. Where do we even start? I suppose we start with The Only Living Boy In New York, which has a strong claim for the title of My Favourite Song Ever. I love everything about it, from the ghostly 'here I am', ironically delivered by Art, when the whole song is about the fact that Art wasn't there when Paul needed him, to the descending bass and the simplicity of the lyrics. Then you think about The Boxer, El Condor Pasa, Baby Driver, Keep The Customer Satisfied (my god I love to sing along to that song - it just keeps on getting more joyous). One of the absolute all time greats, and a must listen on at least a monthly basis.

Its lovely

Massive hits, a few underrated gems, overall just a great listening experience.

Bridge Over Troubled Water - 5/5 El Condor Pasa - 5/5 Cecilia - 5/5 Keep the Customer Satisfied - 5/5 So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright - 5/5 The Boxer - 5/5 Baby Driver - 5/5 The Only Living Boy in New York - 4/5 Why Don't You Write Me - 4/5 Bye Bye Love - 4/5 Song for the Asking - 4/5 Average score: 4.6/5 (rounding up)

One of my alltime favourites. This is the definition of a perfect album.

Yep, this one’s a gem. If some of these songs don’t stir at least a flicker of emotion, then your soul might just be a pit of ash.

A pretty magical record with vivid song writing and perfect 2 part harmonies.

I've listened to these songs so many times. Paul Simon was a staple in my house growing up. Just a classic record for me.

Just my opinion, but for 70's duos if their not number 1 then they should be. Iconic both as a duo, and solo, but wrote some of the most well known music of that time. Bridge Over Troubled Water still brings tears to my eyes

Simon & Garfunkel, along with ABBA and the Carpenters, were the sound of my childhood. Therefore, this was always going to veer towards five stars for me. Listening to the album for the first time as an adult, and reading the back stories to each track, confirms the five star rating.

Beautiful album, long time favorite. Paul Simon is one of the all time great songwriters. And Garfunkel helped

Absolutely one of my favorite records. "Keep the Customer Satisfied" is one of my favorite songs of the 60s.

This is one of the best albums I've ever heard. I don't even have a joke for that.

this is one of the most beautifully composed albums of all time, i literally can’t stop listening to it. i’ve always liked certain songs off the album e.g. the boxer, only living boy in new york and baby driver but for some ridiculous reason i’ve never listened top to bottom before. in short a masterpiece.

Had never listened to this album on its own - I was shocked at how many of their hits were part of this record.

Great songs! Surprisingly so great! Had to listen twice - 5/5

Superb album, not sure Paul Simon ever topped this one.

A no doubt 5 in my book

I started this 1001 project once before, in about 2019-2020. I only made it about 50 albums in, but I figured I would include any reviews I made from then onto here, when possible. From 2019: Sounds more like a collection of songs than an 'album'. But the songs! Besides the all-timers, Keep the Customer Satisfied and Only Living Boy are additional standouts. 5 stars. 2025: Not much has changed from that. Still a 4-5 star, but not one that I go back to in full very often - S&G is one of those acts where it is easy enough to compile your favorites into a playlist and go from there. Like I said, this album kinda seems like a playlist already - why is the title track first? That seems like the epic closer. Or maybe The Boxer last? Nope. I'm also not sure why Bye Bye Love is on here. Only Living Boy remains my favorite, possibly due to over-playing the others included on their first GH/radio. Thinking about this as an 'album', I am tempted to go with a 4 due to the disjointedness, but overall it is a 4.5, and I'll round up.

An amazing final record from two greats. Also made me want to rewatch Baby Driver.

Crazy how much the landscape of popular music has shifted so much that it's impossible to imagine an act like this taking any sort of hold if it came out today

Simon & Garfunkel make music you listen to when you need to evolve in life and evolve I did

love this album. brought me back.

This is undoubtly a classic, and rightfuly so. They know how to write songs and it's really efficient. The overall mood of the record is pretty sad, but it also plays in the depth of it.

Great album. One of my all-time favorites. Great voices, and songs.

Great album start to finish! Love this

A perfect record through and through.

Amazing album

I'm biased because this was one of the first two CD's I ever owned so I know it very well. But it's so good. I spotify-liked almost every track. Oddly, the songs I didn't mark are "El Condor Pasa", "Cecilia", and "Bye Bye Love" -- the first two are among the top played songs from the album, but maybe for me they're just overplayed.

Notably better than their other albums on the list. One of those albums that also feels like their Greatest Hits album.

Just beautiful.

Love it!!

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3

J - 5/5 Best Track - "Cecilia" F - DNL

Still a classic all these years later. Art Garfunkel had his moments here but Paul Simon was definitely carrying the duo at this point. No wonder Simon is the one dueting with Sabrina Carpenter on SNL 55 years later. Also, the band Fun owes these guys royalties because "Some Nights" is a complete ripoff of "Cecilia." Standouts: Keep the Customer Satisfied, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, The Boxer

Every song is good and it's a fine end to this chapter of the Simon and Garfunkel partnership. I was surprised at how many of the familiar songs are more complex than the bits used in soundbites would suggest.

Fuck yes dude.

Near perfect. Melancholy mixed with upbeat. All beautifully crafted

Loved this album. Well paced.

Just top album

I own this

This gets better and better as I get older. One of the earliest albums I was introduced to as a kid (mostly through the title song). Lyrically and musically immense. The Boxer is a complete triumph. "I have squandered my resistance For a pocketful of mumbles Such are promises"

The best S&G album, and one of the best albums ever written, bar none. Plenty to love here, from the title track to one of the best storytelling songs penned (The Boxer) to the gorgeous harmonies on The Only Living Boy in New York... what I wouldn't give to listen to this album for the first time again.

Still amazing after all these years. (Sorry for the bad joke.)

Another great surprise. I did not guess I would even like this, much less love it. Some great songs on here.

This is incredible. I think I played it 8 times yesterday. Doesn't get tiresome, just brilliant. Paul Simon's songwriting is sublime and Garfunkel's harmonies just always seem to go in unexpected directions, but nothing feels weird about them, they're just so well thought out.

Even if every other song was a clunker I’d have to rate this album a 5/5 just for that title track. Thankfully, and unsurprisingly, this isn’t the case though. Enjoyed every song.

Cried!

I can understand why it’s a classic.

Stellar.

This is one of the best chill albums to be made. It's just packed with great songs. I'm not even going to bother listing them. Every song is worth a listen. There just isn't any filler in this. I've listened to it three times today and enjoyed it every time. Just a damn good album.

I cry every time :')

I mean come on. Doesn’t get much better than this.

This takes me back to childhood. I remember when my sister brought this album home and first put it on. It is one of my first musical memories. Still love the harmony. Now that I understand music, I still love this.

I had never sat down and purposely listened to one of their albums. It was amazing, so soothing

i LOVE THIS ALBUM

I was surprised to hear a few fun songs on this record. When I think of S&G I think of ornate fingerpicking, some sweet arrangements, and morose lyrics. Not necessarily the case.

I have never listened to this album all the way through just some of the more famous songs (of which there are many). There isn't a bad song on the entire album. This is one of the best albums through and through that I have listened to.

I have loved this album since secondary school

BANGER

Bridge Over Troubled Water may have marked the end of Simon & Garfunkel, but what a way to go out. This album is packed with great songs — the title track is iconic, “Cecilia” brings the fun, and even their cover of “Bye Bye Love” holds its own. But the real standout for me is “The Boxer.” Easily one of their top 3 songs ever for me — emotional, haunting, and beautifully arranged. That slow build and the “lie-la-lie” chorus still hit just as hard today. It’s a bittersweet swan song, but also one of the best folk-pop records ever made. Favorite song: The Boxer

Im not sure what Garfunkel brought or didn’t bring to the mix, but it’s hard to deny that this is front-to-back one of the most consistently solid albums of all time. Crazy stylistic swings, but somehow they’re masters of them all.

Beautiful. This plays like a greatest hits album and one of the foundations of popular American music. Like most people, I grew up with these songs and they’re in my blood. They still sound fresh even though I’ve played them thousands of time.

En klassiker!

10/10 amazing beautiful emotional album

Amazing track list and material. For a folk album its very diverse as well.

Just a classic album, and my first very well deserved 5*. Packed with brilliant songs - Boxer, Only Loving Boy in New York, Baby Driver, Cecilia... I could name the whole album! 10/10 Ironically the song i like least is Bridge Over Troubled Water, which says a lot about the overall standard.

Phenomenal album. Is a new favorite of mine

I can remember my elder brother playing this constantly during the early 1980's. I thought it was ok, a couple of catchy tunes, but not really my thing. I have to say though, that this recent re-listen has revealed what a fantastic album this really is. Obviously, every track on there I've heard before - albeit ~40 years ago. I like to give credit where it's due, and you can really appreciate why this album is so highly revered by so many people. One of the easiest 5 stars I've given.

Excellent from beginning to end.

damn, so many hits off this album. Cecilia, Baby Driver and Why Dont You Write Me are worth the whole listen, but honestly I cant find a song I didnt at least enjoy. Great songwriting, harmonies, S&G nailed it, and it still holds up 55 years later!

This is easily my favorite album of S&G and that’s primarily due to the fact that it’s basically a Paul Simon solo album. The dude can write a killer pop/folk song and this is just a taste of what’s to come. From the opening track to Why Don’t You Write Me the album is flawless! Then there’s a completely unnecessary live track to break up the run but the album ends strong after that. Shame they would break up afterwards because their harmonies are so good on this album especially Only Living Boy in New York. At least we would get My Little Town years later. This album is a classic

An all time classic. Not a big fan of Art but together with Paul he is great

LET'S GO!! It's been a while since I've given a 5 star rating. Nearly perfect. The title track is a top 5 song of all time for me. It makes me want to belt the lyrics as loud as I can every time I hear it. Followed by "El Condor Pasa" and then "Cecilia" which are both fantastic. An insane 3 song opening. Then you get to "The Boxer"!! This is only scratching the surface, there are plenty of other amazing tracks on this album. This is just so peak. Probably my favorite folk album of all time. Favorite track: Bridge Over Troubled Water

One of my all time favourite albums. Certainly my favourite album made and originating from the USA (incidentally the second favourite is Bookends) It was not an instant hit with me as when released I was just 17 with a head filled with Hendrix, The Beatles and just beginning to get into my life long fave Prog Rock. But as I matured this album grew and grew on me. I now never tire of it and often play it in its entirety. Each track is unique from the rest meaning that you go through a journey of very different musical styles. There are some of the best harmonies I have ever heard. Best example is the end section of Only Living Boy In New York. The heavenly “ahhs” ascending with the orchestral background always sends the hairs on the back of my head on end. So beautiful and I often imagine that when my time comes I could ascend to heaven myself accompanied by those breathtaking chords. But the highlight on the album is 4min 20secs into The Boxer as the “lie la lie” section comes a crescendo and a bass synth sound thunders in. Just play this loud and put on loop repeat. What a moment this is and a reminder of the power of music. A wonderful album and one which has become the soundtrack to my life. 5/5 22/5/25

not questionable

Pre-listening thoughts: nooo this is the end of Simon and Garfunkel :( Post/during listening thoughts: yeah I've basically already heard this entire album as well. Insanely goated. Bridge Over Troubled Water is a crazy opener. This is on par for me with Parsley Sage, maybe a little better, idk. Depends on the day. 10/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: yes. But in terms of the list and S&G picks, I would personally omit Bookends, and you could probably pick between this one or Parsley Sage to include and it would be fine. I love S&G though so I am glad they had 3 albums on the list oops Fav tracks: no skips. Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Only Living Boy in New York are favs though Least fav tracks: n/a

Totally belongs on the list. I wonder how many versions there are on the Bridge song.

Their high point. Includes some of the best songs ever written. Easy five stars.

This album starts strong and sustains greatness throughout. Also an all-time album cover. The songs are sweet if not tantalizing at times (lol), engaging, and pleasant. I come back to this when people try to say that Paul Simon's solo work is superior, which is absolutely isn't. Baby Driver is a rare example where an American group builds off 60s Brit-Pop without being annoying. This is probably a 4.5 / 5, but I'll round it up today where I may round down another

I mean, this is a perfect album. We start the sort of smooth vocals that I sometimes feel is boring, but the dynamism in mood and energy solves the problem that e.g. Frank Sinatra has. the sounds on the first three tracks are each totally different: from the earnest prettiness of the title track, to the latin-inflected songs alongside equanimity, to the almost raucous sound of cecilia. Distinct, and yet cohesive. Perfection. Some standouts: Keep the Customer Satisfied, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York.

simon and garfunkel have me in a chokehold

Alright, that won me over. I listened to the first few songs piecemeal and enjoyed it, but found it a little hokey. I started listening to the rest at my desk at 6am and by the time The Boxer rolled around I was fully in. I'm probably being influenced by this already having a 5 star, but I'll go with the flow. Album cover: (B) Truly I salute Paul Simon's commitment to being one of America's smallest men. Never be taller Paul.

I've heard some of the songs on this album hundreds of times. "Bridge over Troubled" is an absolutely beautiful song. I have a fondness for the singer with a piano, and this song is that combo at its best. It's cool that Art sings the entire song. I didn't know until this listen-through that El Condor Pasa is a cover of a famous peruvian song. The instrumental backing is fantastic, but the added vocals don't do too much for me. The lyrics are simple but funny, I'd also rather be a hammer than a nail. Paul Simon has such a nice voice. "Cecilia" is a classic. I've listened to this song so much. The percussion is awesome. The horns and vocals on "Keep the Customer Satisfied" are awesome. I guess I am his customer, although I'd never thought of it like that. "The Boxer" is another song I've listened to hundreds of times. Beautiful lyrics, vocals, instrumentals. "Baby Driver" is a fun folksy tone-change. I love the guitar and percussion. The vocals are really fun too. "Why Don't You Write Me" has some horns that absolutely hit me like a truck. They came out of nowhere and took center stage. "Bye Bye Love" is an alright song, but it's odd that they did a studio recording with live audience noises put over it? This album has one or two songs that I like, and nine or ten songs that I love. It's close to flawless and is a perfect match for my taste. 10/10

Now do a song about Louis Kahn!

Still amazing after all these years. One intriguing song I wasn’t familiar with: “Keep the Customer Satisfied.”

It’s me, I am the only living boy in New York.

This was a great listen through and through.

I love this album. I got garfunky to it on trail.

Ef ég tek eitt út þá er Only living boy in New York algjörlega tímalaus snilld.

Amazing album!

I’ve been a Simon & Garfunkel fan for a long time. Not every song on this album is a 5/5 to me, but the vast majority of this album is excellent.

An easy five stars today

I love this album so much -- despite hearing it multiple times a day, multiple days per week, while working in a used book store in high school. The title track, Cecilia, Keep the Customer Satisfied, The Boxer, and The Only Living Boy in New York are all A++.

Very cute, pretty vocals, and some fun, funny, and quotable lyrics. Imagine if a couple of Hobbits got to leave the Shire and explore a world not solely based on Europe.

So many great songs on here this album is a classic. Faves include: only living boy in New York, bridge over troubled water, el condor pasa, Cecilia, baby driver. Super harmonies!

C’mon

What an amazing album, so many great songs. The Boxer and Cecilia are my favorites.

Good folk music.

5/5 10/10 Love it

Props to those people who managed to give this all-time classic album less than five stars. You're idiots but at least you know what you like.

My life and welcome to it.

Some of my favorite songs from when I was a teenager definitely wasn't my age of music but my friends and I would listen to these guys for hours together.

Really enjoyed the album.

Very solid album. Starts off strong and holds up very well until the end. The last bits do fall off for me. Not the biggest fan of the live performance at the end. But it's hard to argue with classic hits like Cecilia, The Boxer, and Baby Driver.

Great album, you can hear Paul Simon breaking free of Garfunkel and it's amazing. Controversial opinion though, I hate this version of the title track...

my dad hates this album lol

I love these dudes.

Très bien. Calme. Fini saison 1 de Last of us.

I love that one, full of bangers

Great record! Still sounds fresh and relevant.

Listened before?: Yes, many times I love this album! But then who doesn't, I suppose.

Solklar femma.

Iconic. Loved it

Great Album

Fantastic album, so many good songs on here.

It has The Boxer which is a strong contender for best song of all time so what're you gonna say...

A more sophisticated version of themselves, capped with some of the most enduring songs.

First 5, obvious 5. This record is so encoded in my DNA it's kind of impossible to hear with new ears. Feels like it was purpose-built to pick up that sediment and mean that much.

Not a bad track and some absolutely outstanding tracks - title track, Cecilia, boxer, the only living boy in New York. A joy and a pleasure to listen.

Art Garfunkel barricaded himself into a honeymoon suite in Hutchinson, KS in May 2004. He dislocated the fire alarms and smoked his brains out and wouldn't leave. I know this because my cousin got married and had that very suite booked, which, was to be used for a bridesmaid 'getting ready' room, and ultimately for my cousin and his new bride to spend their wedding night. However, upon prying Art from the room, the hotel staff had considerable work to do to make it habitable and were forced to put my bridesmaids elsewhere to prep for the wedding while they aerated the room. Thankfully, my cousin and his new wife were able to stay in the suite, so all was not lost...except for maybe a little dignity for good ole Art. All that said, this album is a 5 every day of the week.

Classic Album perfect 11 out of 10

Solid 10/10

Masterpiece. Gets better every fucking time.

wow wo ww wow! can't believe i haven't listened to more simon and garfunkel before this. even better than bookends.

Straight up 5 Star, the songwriting, the singing, the production. Multiple songs on the 1 album that I could easily put in my all time favourites, bridge, the boxer, only living boy. Beautifully constructed, just shear joy, just makes me happy to be alive when I listen to.

Looks cute

Absolute classic no notes

True classic folk music. Great singing, great instrumentals, great lyrics.

can’t go wrong either a lil s and g. cried 3 times

4.5 rounded up. I know I’m giving a lot of 5s, but this was well mixed chill music with a few bangers

Beautiful!

What's not to like?

This is arguably the best Simon & Garfunkel record.

One of my absolute favorite albums which leads with one of my absolute favorite songs. Paul Simon is one of the greatest living songwriters. 5/5, 10/10, 100/100

Amazing album! I've listened to this album many times before and Simon and Garfunkel's narrative storytelling is really interesting throughout the album, matching the music to the story. They also have a knack for sticking in your head and being engaging to listen to!

yeah i get it now

i like simon and garfunkel

This was pleasant, and the 2nd Simon & Garfunkel album I've gotten recently. Great instrumental work and vocal work! 'Cecilia' was my fave, lotta good energy from that track.

Masterpiece, and INFINITELY better than bloody Bookends

Woah. 4.8.

an all-time breakup album—because that’s really what it is, the tenderest of grand finales, the sincerest of send-offs…how devastating is that closing track?! it’s always easier to tell someone that all they have to do is ask to come back when you know that they never will. but that kind of forgone conclusion doesn’t make the sentiment any less true. i’ve been waiting all my life… fav tracks: cecilia; the only living boy in new york; so long, frank lloyd wright; baby driver; the boxer; el condor pasa; song for the asking

sooo good. i feel like it went by so fast....TOO fast. but i enjoyed it a lot. I listened to this before bed because i thought it would be good simmer down mellow music but then was caught off guard by how energetic it was. I liked the sort of echo-y (?) sound that a lot of the songs had (particularly noticeable in "The Boxer" and "The Only Living Boy In New York"). it feels very grand and cinematic, more so than a lot of their earlier music. just overall so so beautiful kind of still punches me in the gut even though i've heard a lot of these song so many times. Fav tracks: El Condor Pasa; So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright

The Boxer was een oude vriend geworden.

A real treat from start to finish, many classics

A clear 5. I’ve nothing else to add that other reviewers haven't already said, except to note the sheer variety of moods and music in this album, the range they cover, is exceptional. El Conda Pasa is quite transcendent but The Boxer really touches the soul.

the duo's last album together, a beautiful swan song to close out the era of both gentlemen collaborating together. like other albums by these guys, this one too is amazing. departing from their usual style, the two decide to create a folk fusion of sorts, incorporating all sorts of aspects from different genres and global influence. first-time listeners will be surprised to hear how positive it is... these guys wanted to go out with a bang. lots of songs about friendship and human relation.

Beautiful, almost perfect, classic after classic

Brilliant

Nearly a perfect album. No hesitation in a solid 5/5

Masterful. Gorgeous. In terms of musicality, Paul Simon was far and away the most talented, creative, dedicated, and honest singer songwriter to come out of the 60s folk scene. It ain't even close. His lyrics are amazing; intimate, and - again - honest. Throw in his commitment to the recording process and we're given one of the finest collections of song from the 20th Century.

lovely album! i already knew simon & garfunkel ofc, but i haven’t listened to their albums like this. but it was definitely a pleasant experience!

Some of the best to ever do it I LOVE this album.

Surprised myself how much I like it. The only bits I didn’t like were when they pull influences from the 50s like the cover of the Everly Brothers but other than that, I’m all in on the singer songwriter vibes and Art’s incredible vocals.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by how much I love this album and Paul Simon in general. Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.

15/1001 Ah, no hesitation making this my first five-star selection. If I had any complaint, it might be that the title track is a bit too sentimental and overblown - I rarely listen to it to be honest - and the final track is nothing special... but everything in between is pretty much perfect. One of my favourite albums, one of my favourite acts. Beautiful melodies, beautiful harmonies, beautiful arrangements, and some of Paul Simon's most touching lyrics. Absolutely magical.

got to say it's top stuff from the high pitched lads

This record contains, and starts with one of the greatest song of western pop history, but somehow manges not to fall down in quality afterwards. Just for that fact it deserves all the praises it gets. A magnificent work by Simon and Garfunkel. Beautifully balanced between anthems that only Paul can write to small hidden songs that only Paul could write. A finel work by the dou, but what a way to finish a career full of highlights. If you didn't listen to it yet, well, you should. It's absolutely amazing fucking big fat five.

PHENOMENAL ALBUM. The Boxer literally gave me goosebumps. One of the best I’ve heard so far.

What can be said about this record that hasn't been said already?

Bridge Over Troubled Water is the fifth and last studio album from Simon & Garfunkel. These songs show the songwriting talents of Simon, and the pair's incredible abilities to make melodic harmonies in pop songs. The range of songs is also impressive: some need nothing more than an acoustic guitar, others have the graceful, subtle support of an orchestra. This is Simon & Garfunkel at their best, and unfortunately, at the end of their run. These are beautiful, influential pop songs showcasing their impressive range of talents.

A classic and an all-time fave

Perfection! I know everyone has different tastes but I truly believe all people should hear this album. It was probably one of the first albums I would have heard on cassette while driving with my parents and gave loved it since. My top two are a tie with only living boy and the Boxer. The only song I would leave is Frank Lloyd Wright.

enkelt val

I can not overstate the magnificence of this album. This duo reinvented folk music, where songs like the title track, Cecilia, the Boxer, and others explore the realms of other genres, and it's beautifully reflected with a cover of "Bye Bye Love" that shows the sharp contrast of another (still respectable) duo's hit with simple lyrics and melodies, to the grand exploration of music that is S&G. Although Bob Dylan turned folk into a poetic craftsmanship, Paul Simon's songwriting matches, and sometimes exceeds, but with a more phenomenal exploration of sound that becomes more accomplished in his solo career. I actually got emotional listening to this album, as it took me back to a nostalgic era of high school where I learned old school music was more than just hard rock and hair metal, and groups like S&G were just as definitive for their eras and the history of music. Moreover, the songs, namely Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer, the latter being one of my favorite songs of all time, are so emotional and powerful, it's hard not to be overcome. And then hearing a whole crowd of people cheerfully clap along to a song with lyrics that say "Bye Bye Happiness", I feel puts a bow on top of this album that makes the listener acknowledge that "Yep. These guys are legends."

Mjög skrýtið að byrja plötuna á titillaginu en enda ekki á því. Lagið er hápunkturinn og það sem fylgir á eftir nær ekki að toppa það, þótt Boxarinn og Einasti lifandi strákurinn í New York komist nærri því.

Ganz klare 5 Sterne!

Near perfect.

Dieses Album habe ich mehrmals angehört. Wegen meiner Frau und Valentinstag. Wir lieben dieses Album. Allen voran "Bridge over troubled Water".

One of my favorite albums

“I hate your guts, Art. Let’s break up.” “Likewise, Paul. Screw it. Before we split, should we record one of the greatest folk-pop albums of all time?” “Sure, what the hell.”

5/5 who couldn't love this

The song Bridge Over Troubled Water annoys my. Always has. Way too much drama. The rest of this album is fantastic.

Some of their finest work.

Iconic

Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of my desert island discs and I’ll have it at funeral. Was *delighted* that this was number 2 for me!

This album was one I grew up with. My parents listened to it together when they were dating some 50-odd years back so we had two copies of it. My primary school teacher, Mr Woods, used to get us to sing the Boxer during music class. He changed the words. Up until I was about 40 I thought he was getting come ons from the "wars" on 7th Avenue. Never made sense at the time. When I realised... Last year as my father passed away, Bridge Over Troubled Water was the song that was playing as he took his last breath. I can't say anything bad about the album. It's too prominent an album in my life.

A true classic.

This one 'keeps the customer satisfied.' Any album that proposes 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters,' 'The Boxer,' and 'The Only Living Boy in New York' is a perennial knockout. 'Half of the time we're gone / But we don't know where / And we don't know where.' It's the 'but' and the 'and' that make that a masterful and emotive line. The whole thing exhibits a pensive and cheerful vibe, a simultaneity not easy to attain, but one that's essential to experience. And I love hearing their live cover of the Everly Brothers, the duo's principal influence, at least vocally.

Feelings music.

Cecilia, bridge over troubled water, only living boy in New York, the boxer

So many incredible songs on one album. The Only Living Boy in New York is my favorite, but the Boxer is not far behind. Honestly would prefer more stripped down versions of most songs.

Excellent album. 10/10

Absolutely delightful to listen to.

Needed this today

Absolutely amazing. The Boxer is one of my favorite songs of all time but the whole album is just top notch.

This reminds me of the early days of shopping for vinyl records, desperately trying to beef up the small collection. I feel like it was a first-purchase for many indie, young, millennial college students - probably because you could find it at almost any thrift store, or because there was a song on the Garden State soundtrack, and we all felt hip for knowing it from its original album. That being said, it's one of the greats for a reason. The whole album feels like a soft, nostalgic lullaby, with appropriate hand-clapping and foot-tapping breaks. The kind of album you know all the words to without even trying. "The Boxer" will get an instant repeat listen almost anytime I hear it in the car.

This album was actually extremely pleasant, it pretty much lulled me to sleep by the end of it. I would listen to this album and more by Simon & Garfunkel now that I know they are such a calming folksy duo. Of course I knew sound of silence and thought it was kinda corny, and maybe they are corny fellows, so now I like them even more for it.

The Bridge Over Troubled Water album is special because it represents Simon & Garfunkel at the peak of their creative powers while also marking the duo’s final studio album together, making it both a creative high point and a bittersweet farewell. I've had this record on vinyl since I started collecting records way back in my freshman year of college. I remember loving it then and I still do today. No mystery why, as the themes of love, friendship, and perseverance feel timeless. Standouts for me are “Cecilia” and the very nostalgic classic, “The Only Living Boy in New York.”
