Annoying
I wasn't so sure of this at the start. Didn't care much for the opening track. However I ended up really enjoying this album.
I was hoping for something better for my 100th album. This isn't my thing but some of it was listenable.

Could listen to for a long time
I didn't know what to expect with this one but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a mix of Daft Punk, Postal Service, and The Strokes? Dancy, indie-rocky, personal, and human. Some songs dragged on just a bit too long, but there were plenty of songs to enjoy here. I would give it a 7/10, but I'll round down to a 3/5 just because I probably wouldn't revisit that much. Favorite Songs: Get Innocuous!, Someone Great, All My Friends, Watch the Tapes, Least Favorites: North American Scum,

a pretty fun spin on the electronic/dance genres. definitely has an indie tinge, which i appreciated. and what's most important to me, it feels human, which i find a lot of electronic music lacks. just a really fun time!
excellent album! I knew there were some good tracks here - “NY I Love You” is a favorite - but the entire album is solid and will definitely be in my regular rotation!

Total 80s groove! I could hear some Bill Nelson, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen.... and a smidge of White Stripes. Great driving music! You'd be boppin in your seat and miles be flyin by! Makes you feel like a teenager..... a real life emotional teenager..... 🎶

Really liked this album which I wasn't expecting to. Have added to library. Favourite song is All My Friends.
Great sound. Pretty funky, kind of an 80s vibe with some disco drums and analog synths. The lyrics are kind of strange at times, but its mostly dance music where that doesn't matter as much anyway.
Super interesting. There’s a lot going and it all works. I think this is one I need more time with to decide if it’s maybe 5 stars.
While I understand that this type of music takes some level of skill to make, it does not appeal to me very much. The beats felt pretty repetitive (so much cowbell) and the vocalist just didn't do enough for me to make up for it. There were stronger tracks for me like Someone Great and All My Friends, but even those felt long and wore out their welcome for me. A lot of this would be fine if it was like...in the soundtrack to the right movie.. but I cannot think of a time in my life I will ever want to sit and listen to this again.
This album surprised me. I don't usually enjoy super-repetitive electronica rock (with a few exceptions) but there were some really enjoyable tracks on this.
Great for a dance club, but a lot of the songs were too long and repetitive.
Not bad. Listened while at work and it blended in with the background....so nothing really stood out. It was a worthy listen.

So it all comes down to this: what do you expect from music? If you just want to dance or have a beat in the background while you do something else, this album should do as well as thousands of others. If you expect a musical expression of fundemental truths, look elsewhere.
All my Friends is such as great song, love the way it builds and the rhythm catches me every time. Worth an extra star. Dance music isn't my thing, but this was a great showcase of sound super synth work.

Gets a little long but otherwise great
First time hearing this album. It had some good songs with great basslines.
Monotonous, boring dance music - nothing catchy, nothing makes me want to go back to this album. One interesting song is New York, I Love You…but that’s it.
The first track was okay. Then the rest of it was a bunch of unoriginal, boring crap. If this does it for you, then great. There are some of this ilk that I like. This one isn't any of those.
Well this was a pleasant surprise! I was a little deflated when this came up, the band name suggesting to me a purely electronic/dance act. However, what I got was a combination of synthesised beats supplemented - crucially - by scratchy guitar, real drums and impressive bass guitar. It reminded me of an updated iteration of New Order. I really quite enjoyed the first 5 tracks, with opener 'Get Innocuous' and 'Someone Great' being particular standouts for me. However, at 55 minutes, it did outstay its welcome somewhat. So, not a total convert but quietly impressed. The question is, though, will I be tempted to relisten?

This one’s for the Pitchfork heads out there… great gym music though. Very groovy. I also like the closer a lot. Personally think the follow-up is their finest hour

Cooles Elektro-Pip Album
Dug most of it. Us V Them is a flat out banger. The closing track about New York is excellent but I wouldn't want to hear a whole album of that type of song. There are lulls but a solid album nonetheless.
2007 was a big year. We got married, for a start. There were loads of amazing albums released that year. I was still child free, still trying to be on top of music. I'd slowly started letting guitars into my life. LCD Soundsystem and the whole electroclash-y sound that was everywhere at that time really hit the spot bridging my love of electronica and analogue. LCD in particular found the sweet spot of minimal, well judged electronic sounds with interesting vocals and analogue elements that is just cool. Sound of Silver is not an album of absolute bangers (LCD do them) but really well judged, head bopping tunes with hits of emotional highs. Really good stuff.
I’ve been a big fan of LCD Soundsystem since high school. Love the disco/alt/dance vibe with silly lyrics- like the electronic version of Weezer and Cake’s nerd rock. From this album, “Someone Great” has been one of my consistently favorite songs for more than 15 years. Listening to the different instruments and effects layer on each other is exciting, coupled with relatively melancholy breakup/separation lyrics. A line from the song that I think about all of the time is “the coffee isn’t even bitter, I’m sad it’s not raining.” Like you’re trying to be sad and melancholy but the world just isn’t matching your mood. A fantastic rainy day song, even though the song’s protagonist only can wish for precipitation. “North American Scum” has been another longtime favorite. Overall an incredible album with a lot to enjoy. Very re-listenable stuff of a very high quality. 4.5 stars!
I at 2.5 stars for this. I enjoy electronic music but this stuff gets really repetitive. I think my favorites are Someone Great and New York I love you. I think the singer kind of sounds like Death Cab's singer.

wasn't sure the first time so re-listened and it's a good mix of rock and electronica, overall enjoyed however can't call it a headphones album as it's too abrasive at times and not something i'd put on my stereo so hard to classify.
I think I was in the wrong state of mind to truly appreciate this album. I can understand where the trance genre description comes from now. I like things which focus more on melody than beat.
I don’t know why I had it in my head that I didn’t like LCD Soundsystem. This album is fantastic. How often is dance music heartfelt and even sad? I hear elements of Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, Bowie… Little Richard even. It also reminds me of peers: Spoon, Cake, White Stripes, Ghostland Observatory… It’s rare that I don’t want a 6 minute song to end, but “Someone Great” fits the bill. This is hype music for millennials. This is music to get you to have fun cleaning the house. This is brilliantly crafted pop music.
Modern New Wave Sound. Not bad. Don’t turn it off when it comes on. May listen to more of their stuff in the but don’t think I’ll seek it out. They probably put on a heck of a live show though.

It's coffee shop or local record store music, and I mean that in the best way. The only song I was familiar with before listening to the whole album was New York I Love You because of the music video with Kermit and the mashup with Miles Davis.

I really didn’t like it at first but it grew on me. I think I get it.

These guys are kind of meh for me. This was a more enjoyable listen than their 2017 American Dream, also on this list for some reason. I would like a half star since this is better than average, but not "make me sit up and listen".

Decent: not much to say about this album tbh. I have heard a lot about LCD Soundsystem and they were as I expected. I can see why people like this music. The lyrics were solid and some decent beats but nothing to make my head turn.
This wasn't love at first sight, but it soon seduced me with its charm and wit and effective use of tongue-in-cheek electronica.
As the first track started, my first reaction was that I was going to love love love this album. By the end, it fell a bit short of that mark for me, but it was very good!
What a mood booster! Really helped out my antidepressants today.
I must admit that when this popped up I was slightly annoyed… as I get further into this project artists that are new to me who get multiple albums make me assume they are overrepresented. I grudgingly started this album and I’ll be damned if Get Innocuous! didn’t have me up and dancing from the jump - what a fantastic dance track! My preconceptions dissolved in an explosion of audio glitter! I went back to look at my review for the previous LCD Soundsystem offering - American Dream. There I wrote that this was a group I needed to hear more of. Commendations to my previous self for my prescience! The album does not disappoint from there… I found delight in all the crevices! The music is a ton of fun and while it doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously it does have interesting things to say along the way. The songs are all really, really good and did wonders for my temperament. Goodbye ol’ grouch - time to play this again and get back out on that dancefloor!
It has a good up beat rhythm to it. Easy to follow and a good listen when you want to kick your feet a bit.
I did not know this before, I listened briefly and it is unfortunately not really my taste. Other than that, I found it very creative, mixing different styles into a very unique sound.

The singing borders on moaning. The beat on Time to Get Away is groovy but the singer keeps opening his mouth. Sometimes less is more, and less singer would definitely help this album. All My Friends is the first song where everything has worked together. Us V Them kind of sounds like the home depot commercial song. The base on Sound of Silver is funky. I found this album to be jarring to listen to. The singer is not good and actively made songs worse. Most of the good instrumental pieces were made worse by including vocals. All My Friends was really the only highlight to me. This is not an album I have any intention of listening to again.
Super solid album: someone great, all my friends and New York are insanely good songs. The other songs on the album are good, but nothing I go crazy over.

Really unique digital sound, I liked the sound but quite a few of the songs didn't work for me. Some of them were awesome though. Weird and experimental, this is one of those albums where I'm glad I'm doing this project.
In a nutshell: a case of sophomore album blues. Loops galore, glockenspiel, cowbell, handclaps… I don’t hear anything groundbreaking or new here. Overall: 2/10.

absolutely freaking incredible music that creates its own lane, makes you dance and sweat but also makes you think. It's like entering into the weirdest party ever, but actually being surprised by how crazily memorable and special the night will be. Some songs are definite standouts all the time, and some only work when you cant notice the repetition (like when dancing)
Was 2007 the year I may have seen LCD Soundsystem at Lollapalooza? Or was it 2008? That seems like something that happened for some reason. If it did happen it was me walking by a listening for a bit.

It was bland
Not bad. Not brilliant. A bit more than mediocre. Nothing to write home about. I liked the second or third track.

Never heard any of this album before but I have This Is Happening, the follow-up cd, which I’ve always liked. And this is a really good listen, so diverse, some terrific lyrics & musically so interesting. No two tracks are alike. Too many standouts to list but, musically, Someone Great is hard to top. Then they follow it with All My Friends, which has the most compelling piano intro since Roxy Music’s Virginia Plain, and wonderful lyrics. Terrific album.
I was aware of LCD Soundsystem singles. James Murphy is almost exactly the same age as me, and, as an aged-out former music scene guy, I really related to "Losing My Edge". I especially like Drunk Girls (you should IMMEDIATELY go watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xT6cdfP_cM), but never really tried listening to a whole album until now. Christgau doesn't really like the band, but summarises their viewpoint pretty well when he says "Dance guy or rock guy, optimist or cynic--these are the troubling distinctions irony helps keep at bay", but I think this is just a typical boomer complaint about Gen-Xers. Of this particular album he writes "One song so irresistible it makes you think the other tracks are songs too, which sometimes they are." Most songs are, admittedly, one (or sometimes two) chord grooves extended out to a dance 12" length. Lots of indie bands (especially from the early 2000s NY scene) claim to be influenced by dance music, but I feel like LCD Soundsystem are one of the very few that really understand what dance music is. This is proper dance music played by a rock and roll band. I once tried to beat mix an LCD 12", assuming that they were recorded to the grid, only to discover that the drumming was wild. Who knew? The album draws on the same grab bag of influences that makes up my record collection; krautrock, Berlin-era Bowie, Remain in Light, Eno, Gang of Four, acid house, disco, Steve Reich, etc. I also thought some of it sounded like Severed Heads, although I suspect James Murphy is more an 80s industrial music fan, which is where he picks up the sound. I understand that this isn't for everyone, but it really is kinda tailor-made for me. I have really enjoyed (finally) listening to this all the way through, and it definitely goes on my want list. Is it a true classic? Probably not, but it's got a great beat, and I can dance to it.

On paper this is something i should love and given how many good things ive heard of lcd soundsystem i expected to like this more. Theres a lot of cool stuff ab it but tbh i have to agree with a common sentiment in the reviews that finds this repetitive. Normally i like repetitive music (see: daft punk) but something about this one was kinda boring me halfway through. Will still give other works of his a shot but left a bit underwhelmed

Groooovy
It was the first time I listened to an album by LCD Soundsystem, and I loved this album already at my first listen. Very enjoyable, good quality electro/dance/punk record. It's a perfect balance between accessible but not quite unique and fun without boring/too commercial. I'll come back to this album in the future.

I downloaded this album - when that was a common thing. I had this on a collection on a ipod mini that I filled with downloads. I love this album. This is an incredible collection of dance tracks - simple, compelling, and fun. James Murphy can produce fun, catchy tunes with a punk-like attitude.

"Get Innocuous" and" Time to Get away" are not the greatest songs to start the album with. 2/5 But "North American Scum" and "Someone Great" are excellent follows. 4/5 "All My Friends" is clearly the highlight in my opinion. 5/5 It gets worse again from there, but not too bad. 2-3/5 "New York, I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down" the only song I already knew and love. 5/5 Overall 3.16. Seems like an unfair score for an album from which I really enjoyed about half of the songs and actually saved one of them for repeated listening.

this was awful, i thought i would like them cause i remember them being everywhere when i was younger, but like… i hated it all. apart from the last song, the first half of it, i remember it i think, it was good i guess for a bit of it anyways. i’m glad i didn’t have to listen to them anymore and i hope they’re not on here again jesus.
"North American Scum", "Someone Great", and "All My Friends" are the standout tracks. Cheeky alternative rock married to somewhat frenetic dance music.
The first time I heard “North American Scum,” it immediately shot to the top of my coolest songs I’ve ever heard list. I listened to it over and over again. I couldn’t get enough of it. LCD Soundsystem has a great style. Layers and layers that rise and build over the course of long songs. Some of these tracks can really put you in a trance. Everything is deliberate and intricate and precise. But you can still boogie to it! The lyrics of the title track are really funny. What a great, simple observation. We sometimes say we want to relive our youth but maybe we don’t actually want to be teenagers again?
This album / band were THROWN at me in college by some of my then-girlfriend (now wife)'s friends at random parties. I feel like I couldn't go to a party without not only hearing these songs but also having at least a few people ask "don't you love this song?" "don't you love this band?" "don't you love this sound?", and despite my rebellious hater-of-the-overhyped younger brother attitude, I always enjoyed the song/band/sound. It's just the best kind of infectious, fun, energy injecting type of indie music around. I think that's what made it so attractive to us and the people we hung out with; there were only so many times that you could put on the same old indie rock bands at parties and pre-party warmups pregame hangs and hope that people would dance to rock drum beats. It wasn't going to happen. But man, LCD Soundsystem gets put on? You're grooving. And what a bonus- they sound indie! They aren't some super over produced pop outfit that all the frat parties were playing. It was OUR music and it made you move. Perfect recipe for repeat listens. "All My Friends" was on every single party playlist in college and is an incredible anthem. "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" is such a masterfully written ending track. I love the sentiment, I love the contrast to the rest of the album. The album cover is pretty simple but what I think are the intentions being the elements are all great to me. Easy on the eyes. This is a really high 4/5 for me. I want it to be a 5, but it's not there for my personal rating schema.

Kinda funky pop rock fusion with a hint of light jazz. Not as good as Luis Cole or Snarky Puppy, but enjoyable enough.
Such an awesome album. I already knew like half of these songs and they are only getting nore poignant as I get older. Loved this one.
The pop/synch sound that they bring is very unique. A little bit uneven at times, but it carries well overall
Music and lyrics are interesting, but the vocals don't quite hit for me. They are pretty flat and non-melodic, which extends frequently to the chorus as well. This works a bit better for bands like the Strokes, but here I don't really get into it. Overall it is decent in smaller doses, but I'm tired of the voice by the end of the hour.
Decidedly uncool, it feels too self conscious and try hard. There are parts that threaten to tickle my fancy but ultimately I just feel bleh about this album. Someone needs to tell this bloke he ain’t Prince.
I forgot how great this album is!
Lyrics kind of killed this one for me. Sometimes it felt too comedic. Unsure if that was the intent but I don't think I'd listen to it again.
This was my first exposure to LCD and it was pretty influential, as I got pretty deep into them for a time. Saw a few shows, looked up all their in-song references, etc. I love the throwback beats mixed with the creative production and slightly cynical self-aware lyrics. They are one of those bands that represent a certain type of music listener who will not only enjoy their music but also go digging for influences, related bands, and other types of discovery.

5/5. A great collection of dance-ish rock/pop songs. Bias, I have heard this one many times, but each listen is so fun and well conceived. Feels young and fun, while still being concise and amazingly produced. A great road trip album but sounds great on loud speakers. Plus the lyrics are personal on some but also so weird on others that it creates a nice barrier between each.

IDK why, but this album makes me sad and anxious. Reminds me of a party I went to at Robin's house in about 2009 where I stood still for ages so that the timelapse someone was filming would just have me stood there for ages. Makes me feel old.

How does someone sound so energetic and lazy at the same time? God what a fucking great album. It like a really nice panic attack. Someone Great sounds like someone running their fingers across nylon. I was listening to it in bed and thought the dog was scratching something.
From start to finish absolute bangers
Absolute cracker of an album. You can feel immediately why it’s a classic. It has that staying power, that weight of being highly influenced but more than the sum of its parts. Loved it, loved listening to it in snowy sunny Reykjavík, will continue to return to it wholesale from now on.

This is one where I think the whole is better than the sum of the parts. There's two songs that really stand out to me on their own, "All My Friends" and "New York I Love You...". They're both awesome songs, and the latter really brings the album home, I love how it builds throughout the song. This has been a favorite of mine for awhile now and I enjoyed hearing it here in the context of the full album. "All My Friends" is awesome too, the pace is just a bit frantic in a great way. Outside of these two I don't think there's as many standouts, but the album is really consistent top to bottom. It's a fun listen, upbeat and dance-y and consistently interesting. It has some energy but is repetitive. I knew of them for years but never checked out their music much. Not particularly impressed.
It’s like listening to Talking Heads but just a little less goofy. It’s missing that “I’LL TELL YA LATER!” energy, but I was really impressed with this album. Probably will listen again!

Upon getting this album, an album I LOVE, I found a review and rating I did for it in 2010 that was middling. Times are weird and I’m much more gentle now. Anyway, it isn’t perfect, but it’s essential.
I don't particularly like LCD Soundsystem or this album, but All My Friends is one of the best songs ever made and I cannot ignore that.

This album was nostalgic and took me back to my younger days living care-free in NYC/Philadelphia. It was high energy and perhaps did not resonate as deeply with my older self but I appreciate the sound and the genre. After the album ended, spotify took me on a fun trip down memory lane with other songs from this era.

This was a fine listen. I wasn't overly impressed but I didn't hate it. I'm not a fan of ridiculously long songs, so that definitely impacted my listening experience. There were three songs I liked more than the rest, and (surprise surprise) those were three of the shortest songs on the album.
It grew on me more than I thought. The lyrics were fun and surprisingly thoughtful tbh. And the bass hit especially.
Very surprised at how much I liked this album. Lots of depth and a sense of real diversity between the songs. And see how this was groundbreaking. Great job with the use of subtler elements of songwriting stacked
Truthfully the most uninteresting album we have listened to. Something about it was so utterly milk toast I can't get up the energy to be mad. Not even sure why its in the list.
Honestly, it was a little boring for my taste. I like my electronic music to be more bombastic and this just wasn’t it. Not to say it’s bad as it was still good, but it didn’t make too big of an impact on me.
Good for working
I have to admit that it is a testament to the game I was playing while listening to this that I made it through this album, and also because it was my first one to listen to since joining this group, I wanted to stay in the spirit of things…. ….. but my god this was awful. I only know of LCD Soundsystem by the song ‘Daft Punk is playing at my House’ which I don’t mind, but this album felt like a fever dream of weird instrumentation and unenjoyable singing. Not a fan.
Well someone is a fan of Talking heads. There were a couple of track, the first one included that definitely had that vibe. After that it drifted into modern American pop, came back a bit later but drifted off again. I suppose variety is a good thing but not particularly me. Might just scrape a 3.
That’s not normally the sort of music I listen to. If that was the sort of music I listen to, I’d probably listen to this. If that makes sense. Better than I thought it would be. Had a little snooze half way through but it didn’t induce nightmares, and when I woke up it was still bobbing along quite nicely.
Great band, who apparently had a fair bit of hype around them, due to bringing up kids etc I missed it all, so I was a bit late to the party. Didn't listen to anything by them until 'American Dream'. So had to delve into their back catalogue and this was an absolute stunner of an alternative dance LP. Great dancy tunes with a happy vibe and a tinge of humour. Standout tracks; 'North American Scum', 'Someone Great'. But the rest of the album is really solid stuff. A band at the top of their game a high 4
I opened Spotify to play this album and see I already had North American Scum, Someone Great, and All My Friends markes as liked songs. On this listen I got a new appreciation for Get Innocuous! and Sound of Silver.
Hmmm, think I prefer "American Dream" more than this one - it's a bit more consistent, whereas a couple of tracks on this one are a bit of a drag. Fave tracks - "Get Innocuous!" is a great opener with a distinctly Nathan Barley-esque title, and "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" is a great closer - that song is a vibe....

I swear that bastard was playing eighth notes on ONE piano key for an ENTIRE song. Lyrics are weak and repetitive, music simplistic and sometimes just noise over what could have potential to be a good song. Ditch the keyboard player and you'd have a decent garage band. Very 80's. Oof. I am starting to lose faith in this list.

Some songs are pretty solid neo disco jams and the rest are just wailing over meandering beats. Its like a 2.5 but I'll round up to 3 because it's much better than that godawful James Taylor album.

To my surprise, this is a strong album with Standouts in every track, but it's not my genre and for specific listening settings.
Longtime favorite, it's easy to forget how somber some of these songs are on this album mixed in with fun dancey tunes. Fiest half of the album is stacked. Maybe my favorite overall lcd album. LCD Soundsystem introduces us to a different sound on his "Sound of Silver" long play. However, distancing from the usual does not always mean doing a good job. Some tracks in this project bored me to death and many others caused physical pain to me. Not even those more popular songs are spotless to me. Overly repetitive structures, exaggeratedly long songs and imperfect mixings contribute to the worst possible rating for this album.

Too repetitive for me. 3-4 minute songs filled with 2 second loops of sample beats. This is definitely not for me. If it wasn't for the song All My Friends, I would have given it a one star rating. Even that song has the same 2 second loop through out the whole song.

Rating: 10/10 Incredible dance-punk album. Very catchy instrumentals, danceable and fun rhythms, and some fantastic emotional slower songs. All My Friends is one of the greatest songs of all time. Absolutely love this album and definitely one of the best albums of the 2000s. Worst song: Sound of Silver, still great though.

I did know this album, but I think I wasn't completely ready for it the first time around. This time I was completely captivated
3/10 The Dylan for Coke Addicted Scenesters. James Murphy, has production talents for sure. He even puts on a good, high energy show (or used to). But the lyrics, the singing, and the emotion are all missing critical components. These songs all sort of hit one sort of vibe and stay stubbornly put. Sometime that vibe works, mostly. The lyrics are the puddle-shallow concerns of a a stereotypical hipster. James' vocals are limited, uninteresting, and don't convey much. This is an energetic album, but gets that from its BPMs rather than from any sort of emotional lift. The synths I'm certain are all analog and properly vetted for whatever version of authenticity James feels he must hew toward to stay in the "In" crowd.

I love this album, my favorite tracks are North American Scum, All My Friends, and new york i love you but you're bringing me down. There's so much yearning tucked into the corners of each song—yearning for love, for belonging, and for permission to feel alive. You're also trapped in the rush of the crushing expectations of capitalism in Watch the Tapes as the bass-line bounces you along to the rhythm of commuter traffic. Life as a cog in the machine!

The first three songs are obnoxious with North American Scum particularly bad, then there's two alright songs in the middle, then back to bland soulless repetition. This is an album that dares to ask: “What if there was a cool guy at a cool party in New York?” over and over for almost an hour. If Chuck Klosterman were born in 1985 he would have written a fifteen thousand word think piece about how great this album is, and you’d read it and say, “Really?” This one is very much of my time, and I liked it then. I hate it now. Gruel for millennials. Real bad stuff.

meh... I didn't particularly liked any song, they are all alright. But it's a 2/5. Which might sound harsh, but I am ranking everything relatively to the competition, and the competition is 1001 best albums of all time. If I had ranked all the albums in absolute, there wouldn't be any albums below 4.

It was nice, but not much for me to return to. I read others reviews and it is a lovely slice of other people's time-place anthems and I think its great for that, but as an album for me to listen to, its not a package that takes me anywhere special or brings me to a musical place I particularly enjoy. One track I have fav'ed.
