Reviews (page 11 of 14)

Not really my scene but quite enjoyed it

I was so ready to judge this as more boring EDM but then North American Scum came on, and I just can't fault Ronnie B. Plus a star.

80’s sounding electronica

A mixed bag. I liked the catchy beats, but I wasn't a fan of the weird wannabe David Byrne vocals. LCD Soundsystem is such a fake band name though. If you fed every single thought of humanity into an AI and asked it to spit out a band name, that's what it would come up with and then enslave you to create weird ass Talking Heads electronic beats to fulfill its sick and twisted robot fantasies. You know how words like "Velcro" and "Band-Aid" are actually copyrighted brand names but nobody even knows the actual generic terms for these objects so we just substitute the brand names? That's what LCD Soundsystem sounds to the concept of music itself. Fake music. Who is the lead singer of LCD Soundsystem? Bet you don't know. I don't know either. Why? Because he never existed. This is all just a figment of your imagination and you, the person currently reading this review for "Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem", has been in a coma for the past 7 years and need to wake up. - "Oh what are you listening to?" - "I AM CATCHING THE SOUNDWAVES OF LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, FELLOW HUMAN" - "God damn it, Carl" Sorry forgot my meds. I just wrote that previous paragraph in a stream of consciousness. Not even gonna spellcheck. Call me Ulysses or whatever. So in conclusion, this is a weak 3/5.

This is cool, bounced off me a bit the first time I listened to it but I've enjoyed it a lot more coming back to it now. It's consistent all the way through - a good pace with enough variety that you don't get into your comfort zone - with a handful of really good songs (Someone Great, All My Friends and New York). The album as a whole doesn't seem to drag, but most of the songs do; you've got to be questioning yourself when your average song is over 6 minutes long! Doesn't quite merit a 4, but it's not far off - 3/5.

The only track worth listening to - because of the lyrics - is New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down (the music in this one is OK, too). The rest is just run-off-the-mill dance music without anything catching my interest. I saw this album being compared to Daft Punk one time or the other. But I don't hear that. Daft Punk are ahead of this by several miles. 2.5/5

There are some extremely good ideas in it, but it's too repetitive at times

- is this like a challenge how long can we just repeat the beat before starting the song. is this just 7 minutes of adding onto the beat? i'm getting into it now but took a while to get us here. - *insert dancing emoji here* you can normalize, don't it make you feel alive? - its already losing me a bit at North American Scum (not a fan of children shouting things in songs lol) - i have been liking a lot of these but what is with the trend of "let's repeat the same line over and over again for a while" thing like i'm bored move on this song is already over six minutes and it doesn't have to be (not that i hate long songs but i hate long songs when this is the reason they are long) - huh bit of a change of mood on All My Friends, like this piano (again with the repetitiveness of it all though) - New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down what a mood. might be liking this the best glad to end the album on a high note. overall impressions, i think its really more 3.5 stars for me, but that's not an option so i rounded down. like i liked it but i think that a lot of this could have been edited down to make it a bit less repetitive. songs can be long and engaging for a full 7 minute runtime but just repeating the same thing gets old fast, especially when its used across multiple songs.

This album is decent. I enjoyed some of the songs, but most are just good for background music. Like with most electronica, you can't pay too much attention to the music or else it'll get too repetitive and will become annoying to listen to. Best to put this album on and do something else while this plays in the background. Favorite song: Someone Great Worst song: New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down

Just keeps getting better. 3/5

I quite liked this album. Some of the first songs seemed like all build up, but the second half of the album was better. Last song was my favourite.

Maffe muziek, luistert wel lekker weg

A unique mix of sounds. Didn't really click with me.

I wonder how Sound of Silver sounds to someone walking into an LCD Soundsystem album without knowing what they'll be getting. The band has had so much influence on groups I love that I can't even imagine the experience. As a whole, the thing holds together well with the exception of New York. It's a great song, but doesn't work as the left turn at the end of an hour. The songs manage to stay fresh with a rather stripped-down palettes, James Murphy masterfully doing much.

great listen

J'aimais bien quand j'étais heureux

Solid album. Some great tracks in here. Someone Great and NY I Love You are the standouts.

So the contributors see this group as equally relevant for must hear albums as AC/DC? Ridiculous. Not a bad album, but is completely bland and unnecessary on the list.

Just like the previous album by this artist, not sure whats so special about it that warrants two inclusions

sloop john b slaps!

wasn’t my favorite, but not my least favorite.

Fun electronica

I've heard of this group before but I never delved into their discography before. Typically this isn't the normal type of music that I enjoy but overall I was pleasantly surprised. I'd listen to it again but I don't think I'd add them to my regular listening rotation.

Started good then a bit dreary

Enjoyable for hopping around the room when you want to burn some energy but not something I would listen to regularly

Great album. I liked the combination of multiple styles, with dance, pop and rock as the most remarkable ones. Enjoyable. Nice.

Not my style, but well executed and inoffensive.

Entirely too tedious, but all my friends and new york i love you are brilliant

Not a bad album but I find it hilarious how almost all of these electronica albums that are on this 1001 list are the exact opposite of what everyone needs to listen to before they die. In other words, it's electronica that in almost every case isn't very good, that no one personally seeks to listen to, or is too experimental to carry any sort of melody or want to get you out of your seat. You'd think we'd hear more of the big time artists but I suppose not. Anyway, 6/10.

Not terrible. Would maybe listen again.

oh the sound of freshmen year parties...

This was much better than I was expecting! I really enjoyed all of it! Lots of cowbell.

I really can't decide how I feel about LCD Soundsystem. None of their stuff has ever really grabbed me before. And that's mostly how I felt listening to "Sound of Silver." I also think that a lot of these songs are too repetitive and go on to long, needing the beat to break when it instead goes on and on. The first track, was like this, and it did nothing for me. The acclaimed "All My Friends" is also guilty - that track could be great if the main synth part wasn't quite so sharp, or quite so insistent, or just didn't go on non-stop for over 7 minutes. On second listen, a few tracks got me tapping my foot, and I warmed up to it a bit. But even those better tracks sometimes wore out their welcome by going too long or being too repetitive. I think I liked "Watch The Tapes" best, in part because it avoids those pitfalls. Some of this is very electronica, and some of it is more akin to the dance rock that has been popular in the 00s and 10s (which was probably in large part inspired by acts like LCD Soundsystem). I enjoyed those parts of "Sound of Silver" more, but I also feel like the modern bands that followed them have done it better.

A bit too sound-scapey for my liking but it definitely sounds cool. Voice is quite nostalgic

Kule lydar.

Cool indie.

A very arty album, the kind of thing you imagine a 30y/o writes in his new york attic conversion. Most of it was quite enjoyable, the last track is a bit melodramatic for me but overall good fun

Interesting... I'd been meaning to hear this album for years, as it's been touted as some kind of classic. I don't think it's that, but it's an interesting blend of dance , pop, indie and 80's styles.

there are a couple of his best songs but the rest go in one ear and out the other 3.5

beats and bops

Rating: 6/10

Better than I thought it would be. I actually found myself bobbing my head along a couple of times.

Sound of Silver contains some of my favorite songs of the 2000s. Taking from a lot of my favorite influences like New Order, Talking Heads, etc. It's a no brainer that those songs click. However, there's a few excellent songs and the rest are just good. The kind of songs that sound great when in the mood but will irritate the hell out of you and whoever's listening on the wrong day. Favorite Tracks: All My Friends, Someone Great, New York I Love You

Melko erikoinen.

End of Someone Great was cinematic Long songs, not really my type of music in general Electronic dance-punk

Catchy album, and I don't question its universal acclaim, but it doesn't resonate with me as much as I wish it did.

Sounds like FIFA menu music Not bad, good to have on in background while working

Interessante, parte prima elettronico, poi si evolve in sonorità più rock, pur rimanendo su quello stile.

Niet weggeblazen, gewoon ok.

Somewhat repetitive but better than the last LCD Soundsystem album i bought for £3 in Fopp. I miss Fopp.

I liked the first few songs but then it got bland and repetitive

I enjoyed this one. I could hear how they influenced artists I really like, but I kept thinking that the artists I really like took what this band was doing and made it better, which is why 3 stars is the most I can give.

Pretty good, makes for some good upbeat background music while doing other things. Don't think I'd put it on for much else, but I enjoyed it enough for the first playthrough.

Hated it at first, but it did end up delivering a couple bops.

Snotty party music.

I was vaguely familiar with North American Scum before - which i think is a great song. Otherwise wasn't really familiar with this band, and happy to make their acquaintance

I enjoyed this album and felt it was one of lcd’s better albums. Their songs have such an interesting style and range. The beats are solid and unique. Lyrically there is some depth but sometimes it feels a little pretentious. Overall pretty good. 7.0/10

Boring. At first I thought this was a British band because of how slow it was. It reminds me of that "human music" joke from the tv show Rick and Morty. It's music that could be played on any radio station, at any time of the day.

The cover looks like a psychological thriller movie poster. Not sure what to expect. The track titles seem much more playful. Giving it a spin and ... electronica. OK! Actually, meh. Starts strong but drags on and on. There is some electronica or dance or experimental music that I like a lot but this isn't it. I don't hate it, but nothing grabs me about it. I am lukewarm on the vocals (2/5) though I do like the lyrics pretty well (3.5/5) but the music isn't doing it for me (2/5) there are interesting stretches (4/5) but it all winds up repetitive (2/5) although in a few cases that gave it time to grow on me (us v them)(3/5). Fave tracks: Get Innocuous!, All My Friends I can't say I'm clear why this album is on this list. Based on the reviews some people (who were young when I was not) have *very* fond memories of this album. A little ecstasy goes a long way, I guess.

Not much to say, I like a lot more of the less-popular tracks than the singles. okay.

listened before didn't love it

It's alright, not many stand out tracks. It's a nice genre to do work to

Thought I would hate this. No, I should hate this. But, do I actually like it? Electronic dance music. Hmmm. I do like it. 4 on a first listen. Last 2 songs could have been removed for a better album. Almost lowers it to a 3.

Not something I'll come back to but it was interesting and unexpectedly a good listen!

Reminded me of Talking Heads but not quite as good. Still an enjoyable listen.

After "all my friends" I was prepared to drop a 4 on this. But the spoons/cowbell were too much.

I enjoyed, but not as much as the last album by LCD sound system.

Funky! But ballads aren’t for me Lots of unreal funk

There are elements of this I like - the parts where they sound a bit Talking Heads-like with the quirky, bouncy melodies over a good funky groove - but also parts that I don't really care for - the inorganic feel to it, the repetitiveness and monotonousness that sometimes makes the songs seem 10 minutes long. Overall not bad, but not great. 3 stars.

áhugavert að stúdera hvernig þessi gaur gerði þetta

I haven’t generally been a fan of this band, though this one grew on me over its course. Still strikes me as not as smart as it thinks it is, and at this point I’ve had enough “I’m from New York” attitude to last a lifetime. It’s just a place, you’re not special for being from (or being in) some particular place.

Not a bad album, it's good music, missing something though. Maybe missing drive, or maybe it was just negatively impacted by the fact I listened to it on a treadmill. Either way, I'm not driven to return besides a couple songs.

Quite enjoyed it mostly. I loved Us v Them and played it several times but some of the tracks just went on too long. 3*

Elektronisk inde rock, alternativt, nice lukker, moderne

No prior known experience of LCD Soundsystem. On paper sounded like it could be up my street and Us v Them is a good track but mostly this was more boring than I'd anticipated. Repetitive loops and uninspired lyrics. I'd give it 2.5 but I reckon I could enjoy it more in a tent at a festival so on that loose premise I'll generously add half a star.

Over the past year, I've sampled some of LCD Soundsystem's songs. They're pretty good. I like the vintage synth sounds. I like the arrangments. The First song here is an example. It starts as a repetitive drum sample and fades in more and more instruments until...you're dancing. I like the vocals. But, I'm just not sure this is the type of music I want to reach for. I think it's good but rarely suits the mood. But I think James Murphy has done something incredible to make this music so broadly-appealing. I think they played Madison Square Garden on a couple night stand. I mean, that's big.

Electronic music is normally not my favourite, although combined with a bit of rock it’s not that bad. Won’t be my favourite genre but I can listen to albums like this now and then. Favourite songs: - North American scum - New York I love you, but you’re bringing me down

No my usualy sort of music but suprisingly enjoyable. An intersting fusion of techno-ish music with a punk-like feel and even some more rock-like songs. A real mixed bag of tunes here. But nonetheless enjoyable! Especially the slower song at the end of the album.

Don't listen to a lot of electronic music, so it's hard for me to judge. Sounds fine to me!

never really cared one way or another about these guys. apparently, i still don't. this was, y'know, some music. solid meh.

I really liked it at the beginning, but it does start to drag. I found the lyrics playful which made me want to listen in, but the album just got so repetitive that I had to break it into chunks to listen to it. There was a lot of upbeat slightly electronic inspired rock music in 2007 and this effort is better than most, but overall, I didn't find it to be earth-shatteringly good

Electrónica

It gets off to a good start with Get Innocuous! which is nicely layered and rhythmic. I like the crisp production throughout, though I think I would have preferred less reliance on a drum kit and a bit more electronic kick drum to make it more dance-floor friendly, but that would have been a different animal. For me, the jury is still out on the lyrics and vocal style, which can be unmelodic and shouty at times. The last 3 songs don’t do it for me.

Most of the songs start out with some cool beats and hooks but then they seem to keep going on forever and overstay their welcome. If they mixed it up a bit and threw in some variety this album would have been far better. When the last song, NY I love you came on the change of pace was a blessed relief but alas it came too late.

Nice experience.

Not quite my thing, sounds fun at times, but there are elements that lose me. To be entirely honest, given all the hype surrounding the album, it wasn’t the masterpiece I was expecting. Still good. Especially a few bangers. I dunno, maybe I’ll learn to like it more. Some fun dancing songs, but sometimes I left it lacked a dynamic range in places.

Started strongly but tailed off. Loved the energy of the first track

I do like LCD Soundsystem, but on the day we had it, I wasn't in the mood - I was probably hungover - so didn't rate it. Listening again today, it's super repetitive, but still digging the jam.

not bad actually, never listened to them before but good music while working

LCD hacked the algorithm.

I like their blend of electro and rock, but LCD Soundsystem are one of those bands for which I've never really understood the critical acclaim. The album's fun, the lyrics transgressive, but I'm not sure the sound is particularly unique or pioneering

i actually thought it was a very fun album to listen to. i feel like if there was one really good song i would give a 4, but it isn’t quite there. 7/10, it was groovy and i like his unique voice

Funny, aware indie EDM.

I've come around on LCD Soundsystem but they're still pretty hit or miss for me. I did enjoy more songs than I disliked on this one

I've always heard people talk about LCD sound sound system. I've never really listened to them ever. This album wasn't bad, but it wasn't my thing. Maybe there is such a thing as too much cowbell?

Lucy crystal dynamic

I love New York I Love You But You Are Bringing Me Down. But overall not one of my favourites a little derivative of some earlier rock bands and the influence of several of them is obvious I think. not the worst but not the best!

Decent electronica album.

7,0/10 Mt legal

A catchy dance-rock album. Into the electronica sound, but it gets a bit repetitive by the end of the album.

Thoroughly 'interesting' background music. Couldn't pick out a single track. Perhaps would improve with a second listen

Sound of Silver is the second studio album by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. Musically, Sound of Silver has been described as dance-punk,[2][3] dance-rock,[4][5][6] electronica,[7][8] electronic rock,[8][9] and indie rock.[10] The Guardian's Dorian Lynskey singled out the "devastating emotional punch" of "Someone Great" and "All My Friends" for praise and described the album as "dance-rock for grown-ups: extraordinary." Robert Christgau, writing in MSN Music, remarked that the album contained "one song so irresistible it makes you think the other tracks are songs too, which sometimes they are,"[27] later assigning it a two-star honorable mention rating.

This list made me re-evaluate LCD Soundsystem when it generated American Dream. Prior to hearing that album, I had written this band off based on multiple listens. Sound of Silver isn't nearly as good as American Dream - and I don't think anything else in their discography is going to measure up to that album for me - but it is pretty good.

Some really good. Some really bad. A solid 3 star album.

Good background music for a party. It's pretty good but not particularly memorable.

Uplifting electro-indie. Good, closer to 4 than 3, but not quite essential.

Instrumentals were very solid, sounds like something a hipster in 2007 would think is super underground and cool

Not my favorite electronic style, but it is good.

Hard work

Digging the grooves, not really digging the lyrics. Too literal. Sound a bit derivative, but it may have just been the sound of the 00s

3/5 - Didn't love it.

Nothing too amazing, liked All My Friends but Sex is a better track. Prog rock at that length isn't my thing. Still musically interesting, lyrics are meh

Some ok tracks

Not a big fan of LCD but is an interesting record

Not that memorable, quite good as background music for working

The first song Get Innocuous was interesting in some places but also many times was in the verge of being boring. A little bit too much experimentation I think. The lyrics were good nonetheless. Time to Get Away - Funny in a strange way. I liked it. North American Scum - I thought the group was really from England. They made it clear they are not from England. Us v Them - Makes me want to do a trash dance. Sound of Silver - Very modern. Probably is the best track of the album. New York, I love you but you're bringing me down - a very good one.

If this is your style then you might like it, i find that i like other albums in this style better but still a good album but not really for me

Nice variety. Enjoyed the second half more. Fun to listen to.

Experimental, interesting sounds. Heard of them before but never really listened. Knew the tracks North American Scum and Someone Great. Someone Great is actually a really lovely track, listened to it a few times over. Overall all enjoyable, easy 3.

You dont have a friend in me

It's well written, performed and produced but I found the energy quite linear and the songs dragged on a bit. There isn't much in the way of dynamics, very little change of pace/energy and nothing particularly catchy in terms of choruses. I'm also struggling to score on significance/legacy, particularly as it is a relatively recent album. This all sounds very critical but, In the face of overwhelmingly positive reviews, I felt it deserves a bit of extra justification. I actually don't think it's bad album, it's just not my vibe. 6/10

Monday album. Emoji Monday: 🕺🏻9️⃣0️⃣💲🔙🕰⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not listened to this for a while! The album to convert indie kids to dance music. I can see why as they blend indie rock attitude with clattering dance beats all with added humor. Along with The Avalanches (who fully converted me to the merits of sampling) LCD sound system are the best of their genre and this is a pretty great album by a hugely talented band. All my friends is an absolute masterpiece but its the dance music parts i struggle with a bit, the repetitive beats 'over and over again' and it becomes dull. I was almost converted. I like it but I don't love it adn probably never will. Unless anyone's got some pills... 3/5

Generic 6/10, didnt age that well

They are not bad, I like the singer's voice style, reminds me a bit of the Cure and Jack White from the White Stripes. Some good songs in the album but overall, I think it lacks depth. Also, the songs are too long and repetitive.

Aburrido

Nice album. That's it.

T'was okay.

dat nostalgia

Really enjoyed parts of this album. Very modern, with a mix of electronic and alt rock

Heard the name. Not familiar with the sounds.

Slept through most of it but first couple of songs didn't do it for me

Not really my flavor. Good background music.

Did quite get through the album, but suprisingly liked a lot of it.

2-3 good tracks on here, couple real flat ones too...

Some good tunes

Quite good. Sometimes chaotic.

This was good. assumed they were a UK band but not so much!

I enjoyed listening to this album. I liked someone great, all my friends, and New York I love you but you're bringing me down.

Im not sure what I expected from them, but it was OK

This was good considering how shit the other one was.

This is pretty cool for something I don't usually care about. I think this is the second time I've said this about an LCD sound system album here, so props I guess. Only real criticism is that it's too long and gets kinda repetitive. 3/5.

258. ok

thought i would love this upon hearing get innocuous + thinking it was similar to massive attack? immediately was disproved as i HATED time to get away. a pity as the production is obviously very cool, vocals really sold on this one. wanted to skip so many times throughout. this just feels botched, the poor producer 💫get innocuous, sound of silver, new york i love you but you're bringing me down 👎time to get away 4/10 --> did not enjoy. most of these songs i would not voluntarily listen to again.

A second album by this band makes the list? Unnecessary. One is enough to get the gist. It’s ok… not punk, maybe new wave EDM, hints of gaiety. Not my bag.

I can appreciate that this is an influential thing, just got bored. Some songs I liked but even those I wasn’t blown away by. And I had to turn my earbuds down bc some of this was just harsh noise

Hasn't heard them before, wasn't what I was expecting but was too repetitive for my tastes

New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down".

Didn't enjoy it

I'm usually not a fan of electronic/dance music; however, Get Innocuous and All My Friends were pretty good. I enjoyed the beat and drums of Us v Them; however, the lyrics weren't as strong. The album was slightly repetitive... "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" was a great way to end the album. It's a really nice track, but the lyrics aren't that strong. They try to sound deep, but they end up feeling pretty shallow and don't say anything that interesting. However, I really enjoyed the build-up. 2.5->3

There were parts that I really enjoyed, such as Time to Get Away and North American Scum, and there were parts that grated on me, such as Get Innocuous! and the title track. I guess if you like the beat, you will like the song and if you don’t then it will get tedious quickly.

Jein.

I've never knowingly listened to this album before, but those first five tracks were familiar - they've clearly crept into my consciousness somehow. And they're perfectly good songs, just not essential. The whole record just doesn't seem that special - the title track, Sound of Silver, for example, sounds like it could be a Heaven 17 b-side from 30 years earlier. Although I can now join the ranks of those that have listened to the album in full, I'm not feeling especially enlightened. I'd go so far as to say I didn't really need to listen to the whole thing. Having a vague familiarity with those first five tracks suited me just fine. Oh well, there's no going back now.

3 - BAD

This is weird to me… I LOVE This Is Happening and was sort of expecting to love this too although a part of me sort of intuitively knew I wouldn’t love this as much…and I was correct. I almost like Someone Great but it isn’t quite there for me… nothing on this record is quite there for me and I feel like it’s got a harsher rating than it probably deserves because albums I might like slightly less are at least introducing me to something new, this was a band I already know, performing worse than I’m used to. I also ALMOST like All My Friends … this album is like an emotionally avoidant person I’ve fantasised about but the reality can’t match up to the daydream, especially because the fundamentals of this album, like an emotionally avoidant person, just aren’t for me. I was also introduced to some of the songs on this album by an emotionally avoidant person I once used to fantasise about … it’s very hard to be objective on this project isn’t it. Things hit you at the right time on the right day and those things become something you carry with you and I’m sure this album is that for some people but for me it dragged on and on and on, a genre I love in a way I don’t like which felt more like a betrayal than an entirely new artist / sonic experience. You may say it’s not that deep but how deep is anything really, as deep as we want it to be. This album is like looking through a window to people having fun but I can’t reach through and join them - perhaps I love this in an alternate universe. This isn’t for me but I feel like it really should be. Things surprise us … good and bad … I’m going to bed !

"Dance-punk"? Geez people just make up genres now. Meh.

Electronic music Long songs: kind of boring. Vocalist not very good. Songs sound the same. Not very good. Two stars

I get why people love it, but not for me.

Celebrating 1 year of this list

While I’d heard of LCD Soundsystem, I don’t think I’d ever actually listened to them. After hearing Sound of Silver, I see no reason to listen again. It’s not the worst music I’ve ever heard, but it’s easily some of the most forgettable. The album makes decent background noise while talking with friends, but nothing about it is interesting enough to pull your attention away from the conversation.

I can appreciate it for its creativity, but it feels like someone making music from a home study trying to reinvent music.

I'm not the biggest fan of EDM in the world, and LCD Soundsystem—from my limited experience—seems to lean into that genre pretty hard sometimes. Granted, the band does keep it a bit more musical and less monotonous, but I've always kind of struggled with them. And Sound of Silver feels very EDM heavy for my tastes. It's too digital drum and synth loopy for me to be able to get jazzed about it. I appreciate that they sometimes provide some breaks in the monotony with some pieces that feel a little more band-oriented than "just a dude tinkering with his synths" (though I'm still not sure that all LCD Soundsystem is is just a dude tinkering with all his synths). But I struggle to enjoy much of what's going on here. I'm not really sure what else to say other than I just don't think I'll ever be a fan of the band. 5.5/10

06/26 Meh. Honestly it's pretty lame

Bad album to listen to while stressed lol, which probably colored my listening experience

I’m to old for this. I skipped the first song after a minute because it kept repeating, after the second song I skipped the whole album. Lousy singer.

Ikke min kopp te. Noe gøy her og der men for lite givende musikk. Alternativ elektronikk som på 90 tallet? Bare 10 år for sent

strano

terrible, boring, repetitive

Another one that went from one ear out to the other. I have been spoiled by the G-funk, and I just want to listen to more G-funk now.

it's aight. it has a lot of songs that go: *dink* *dink* *donk* *donk* and whatnot. last song probably hits hard if you're from new york fine listen, wouldn't revisit.

another day, another album I’m supposed to like but don’t

I enjoy LCD Soundsystem for the most part, but this one evoked more of a slam poetry vibe than I was interested in. 2-2.5

I listened to this while walking the dogs and it felt like I was going on an adventure, but a really sad one. Not my thing.

Pitchfork used to really try to sell me on LCD Soundsystem and they've got a few songs I like but I do not wish to spend an hour listening to them.

Interesting mix. A true hybrid genre. But, I've come to realize I just don't care for electronica. I did love the song "North American Scum." Beyond that, not much for me to get into.

Not heard before and at track 1 I thought I was going to really enjoy but it never got going for me. Interesting but found the vocals annoying. Title track was good

Just doesnt do it for me. I feel like I should like it but I just don’t

Not bad, but also fairly repetitive in places. Shame because when he focuses on melody he can actually write a good hook, but some of it feels lazy

I dunno, this is a weird one for me. The music has potential, very catchy at times. I want to like it at those times. Other times it's very busy and repetitive to the point of annoyance. The vocals don't work for me basically at all, but I can't put my finger on why. "Someone Great" is probably the best song. "Us V Them" is probably the worst for me.

Dance-punk meets electronic, 2007. The production is slick, the beats are there, but the vocals didn't work for me — a bit flat, a bit too-cool-for-school. Nothing stayed. Gets a similar feeling to Franz Ferdinand: technically fine, stylistically self-conscious in a way that keeps me at arm's length. "All My Friends" is apparently the centrepiece and great song of the decade. I can see why people think that. It still didn't quite land. 2/5 — not for me.

Us v them песня напомнила песню из опенинга киберпанка franz ferdinand - this ffire.

Nudy. 2

I like long songs when it's changing, and has something exciting in it, these songs long and boring for me

Only the starter song has a good Rhythmic beginning, the rest is mid. And even the first song starts to tire my esr by the repetitive beat. 2/10

No standouts

I don't know man, I got like halfway through it and was already over it. Just not for me, I guess

I didn't enjoy this very much. I admit I came in with a chip on my shoulder, as this band was an archetype for the regional stuff that was considerably more popular than what I was playing in the mid 2000s (SKATE PUNK WILL NEVER DIE!!!), but I wanted to come in with an open mind. I just felt like right off the bat, the songs all sounded like lesser versions of better bands - I heard some particular Human League + Talking Heads influence, which sounds great, but also those two bands did it so good in the first place, why try to chase that again? A few tracks I recognized as friends' MySpace profile songs. A lot of the songs could've been trimmed down. I dunno, this wasn't a disaster but I hope I never have to listen to it again.

i just know there's an og 2013 tumblr hipster who does NOT play about this album fave track: north american scum

I'm not listening past All My Friends because I'm bored, but the beginning of this song sounds like Sex by the 1975. I was thinking how some elements seem like stuff you hear in the ambience of the 1975's music. This was sub-mediocre; the songs are too repetitive to be as long as they are. I'm not particularly struck by the lyrics and the different sounds (like cowbells) utilized in the songs give me the same crawly feeling I get when I listen to repeated high-pitched beeping noises. The only thing I would willingly relisten to would be All My Friends.

Not for me

The singer cant sing. but this was from that area where talk-singing was acceptable if you had energy and a mediocre beat. Goofy ass vocal tracks, totally changes the vibe and continuity of the album. The real talent here is in the synth work.

No surprises or anything memorable

Had to pause a couple times bc I thought my phone was ringing. But it was just the synths.

Not my genre

This was OK. Not really my kind of music. I like The Black Album better

I had always heard of this group but have never heard their music. Now that I have it’s safe to say that they are over-hyped. I like minimalism but these songs are just boring. The lyrics aren’t doing much either. I would still like to give them another shot but am not sure I would want to put this on again. I see there’s another album on this list and it came out ten years later so maybe they’ve improved over that time. For now this album should be wiped off this list as it’s taking up too much valuable space.

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem was an interesting discovery for me, as I wasn’t familiar with the band before. It’s not really my usual style, but I do enjoy this kind of sound from time to time. I found the album engaging and different from what I normally listen to. After looking into the band a bit more, I get the impression that they might have even stronger albums than this one. Still, it’s definitely an interesting band worth giving a chance. I’m not sure if I’ll explore their full discography in depth, but so far, this has been one of the best albums I’ve listened to in this challenge.

Fun music. Dont love electronica bit this is electronica with lyrics which makes it to me more pop-dance electronica which is ok. Still a few flgood songs but could have easily died without hearing it and would have jist been am afterthough. Ok but in no way great must listen

Kinda buns not my style

Doesn't really sound like 2000s music to me. It started off okay but wasn't a big fan of the middle or end, so meh.

A weird experimentation vibe throughout. It's ok as background music but I don't think I could ever seriously sit down to listen to this

Easy listening version of Crystal Method. Trying to hard to be hip and trendy, and getting a Beck sound. 2 Star

Not my thing

I had heard a lot about LCD so i was excited to listen to them for the first time really, I was a bit dissapointed to be honest. There were a few tunes in there but I couldn't really get into the album. The songs felt long and monotnous at points. I'd give it a 2.5 based on it being a unique sound, but I probably won't be looking into LCD too much in the future, unless another album comes up.

Electronic dance. Not for me.

Better than I expected! I didn’t think I knew any of the songs but I knew North American Scum

Not totally my genre but liked it more than I would’ve thought!

It was not something I would normally listen to but it wasn’t unpleasant. Songs were long but most of them didn’t drone on.

North American Scum is a terrible song.. I might even agree with the premise of the song, but the amount of times "We are north americans" is screamed through my speaker was too much.

Not my style, I was having a hard time getting into it! I can appreciate it, just not my cup of tea.

Some songs really started to drag on. I was really done with it by the end and then the stupid new York song came and knocked off another star

Likes: singles are good, some songs have a Roxy Music vibe Dislikes: overly repetitive, grooves don’t go anywhere, and I don’t like some of the sonic texture choices Overall, I don’t like this. Most of the tracks sound less like finished songs and more like a bored guy fucking off with his new keyboard. The tracks that ARE SONGS don’t save the rest of the album.

I feel bad but I just dont love it! Its very dad rocky and I just feel like making music in that genre it has to be reallyyyy catchy to grab me. There were a few good songs that I enjoyed (specifically All my Friends and New York), but IDK not my fav

I found most of this album monotonous and lifeless. There some listenable tunes including North American Scum, All My Friends, Us V Them, Watch The Tapes. New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down is just an ugly song (imo).

I really expected to enjoy this. The vocals aren't for me and overall there was nothing that interested me.

Not my cup of tea. I was surprised because I vibed with American Dream. Too dance heavy.

Every time I think LCD Soundsystem are growing on me something happens to reset my brain and I'm back to being mildly disinterested. I noticed a number of the high scoring reviews have a large dollop of nostalgia driving their love of this record. I don't have this. Perfectly fine, repetitive tunes for doing the housework to, but I tapped out on the song All My Friends - it felt as if every element of this track was backing me in to a corner and screaming at me. Horrible stuff.

Do I recognize most of the songs? Yes. Do I love any of them? Not really. This album encompasses my feelings of LCD Soundsystem as a whole: they sound all right when I hear them and am in the mood for them, but otherwise pretty meh.

The marriage of indie rock and dance music is an unholy one. This album kind of reminds me of the worst parts of both. Someone Great is a good song, but the rest of this I would actively avoid listening to again.

Interesting but not generally my vibe

Nope. Replay no

My least favorite Gorillaz album

I don’t know, I find this album very slow and bitty. It doesn’t really flow for me, from one song to another. A lot of the songs are samey. Or is that just me not digging it…. I can respect what it is, what’s been trying to be done, I just don’t think it’s my vibe. Found myself wanting to turn it off a lot. Felt abit stressed with some of the songs on. Some bits sound like a rabbit running over a piano. And a dog jumping on his balls while singing. I was hoping for a lot more actually. All my friends is probably the only song I really didn’t want to turn off.

A bit repetitive in places and singing was annoying too got a bit hard to listen to , can hear the vibe they are going for but not my bag really , one to come back to and try soak in a bit more

Couldn't really get into this one, can be a bit repetitive and all over the place but I'll give it another try one day.

The first track has a good rhythm. The rest gets a bit too repetitive for me, with interesting moments. I don't like the voice of the male singer. 2.75 / 5

This was too much of the same. The component parts are interesting enough, but somehow the whole is less.

Elektro bet man per daug indie

Starts out sounding like Daft Punk, turns into something really weird and not my vibe by the end...

Daft Punk, if it was daft.

Eh. All My Friends is a geniunely fantastic track, but I can't see myself coming back to this in full.

Naslednje dva me nista ful navdušila. Zj, "Someone Great" mi je pa spet mal bolj všeč. Ampak. Komadi nikamor ne grejo? Trajajo in to je to. Pa kinda isti so mi večinoma. Neka shitty normy elektronika. Zelo early 2000s. Earwormy.

Quite experimental, it might just not be my style, but it dóes have something

lots of clicking and beeping

mid it didn’t really stand out to me lol

Interesting album, but not something I'd return to. Too repetitive.

Only one song really stood out to me. Some cool stereo mixing. 2 for now, but might listen some more to see if this grows.

It's certainly a subgenre of music... maybe it'll grow on me someday but today ain't the day.

Inoffensive, but irritating

I did not like this. I’ve heard of LCD Soundsystem. I even think I own a Christmas song by them, but this was horrible. Long songs, no real melodies, electronic sounds, and a lot of repeating of lyrics. The last song on the album was ok though.

It's just not memorable music. I've only just finished listening to it, and I can't remember it.

Too varied, all over the place.

Dance Yrself Clean и Daft Punk…

Lots of piano and synth. Good background music but nothing special.

Cool but not my style

Day 163 Highlight North American Scum

Got bored pretty quick. Not annoying, but that interesting

I prefer their self titled album. This is just dull af.

This indie classic has all the dance vibes of the early to mid, 2000s, well maintaining more refined and polished sound. This album is a'ight.

There are moments in most of the songs where you think it’s catchy and cool, but then they exhaust that idea to the point where you can’t stand the part you thought you liked. Repetitive to the point of boredom and neverending songs. Who thought electronic brit pop made by americans was a good idea?

A very similar experience to Play by Moby, I really enjoyed the start and thought maybe I could get into more electronic music, but then it dropped off hard, North American Scum was the worst song by far and made me consciously notice the repetitiveness of every subsequent song. I liked the genre mix of Indie and electronic, felt fresh and new. Too many stinky songs for me to listen to the album again but definitely adding some to my playlist. Fav song: All my Friends. Probably a 2 or 3 I mostly agree with your review but man I either was not in the mood or I just did not like it. I did like someone great and all my friends (but I have heard that one before).

Garbage.

Some ok songs but bad overall. A lot of songs were close to being good but either had bad vocals or bad sound effects

Only ever listened to This Is Happening in full and that one’s great. I was surprised by how skippable a lot of this album was :/-

An American band in its early stages of electronic music

2, boring, just a bunch of repetitive beats.

The instrumentals are weird, and the vocals are lame.

Naaah. not for me. A bit too samey all the way through. Whiny. punk pop guitars and droning or faux-rapping, semi-tuneful vocals. Not my thing.

Really had to push through my tolerance for repetitive music to listen to this album. Some of the songs had decent beats though. The vocals on others were kind of grating. Not my cup of tea.

The only song I liked on here was “ North American scum”, other than that - Nothing…..

Get Innocuous! - 4/10: The beat is okay, but I wouldn't listen to it again. Time to Get Away - 6/10: I like the beat and it's pretty catchy. North American Scum - 7/10: I really like the beat and drums on this song. Someone Great - 5/10: I like the vocals. All My Friends - 7/10: I like the beat, drums, and vocals. Us vs Them - 5/10: I like the beat. Watch the Tapes - 6/10: I like the beat and it's pretty catchy. Sound of Silver - 5/10: Just kind of strange, didn't really enjoy it. New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down - 5/10: I like the pick-up (idk what to call it) toward the end of the song and the guitar. Not a fan of the vocals. Overall Score: 50/90 Overall Rating: 6/10 - I have never heard of or listened to LCD Soundsystem before, and while the album wasn't terrible, it's definitely not my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of the punk genre, but the album isn't the worst. I probably won't listen to it again, though.

It was ok I guess, but too repetitive. It got me all bored.

Not really my vibe i felt like the songs were too long and the lyrics to repetitive but I vibed to some songs

Fine. Nothing stood out except the last song for me. Otherwise just pleasant noise.

? nicht meins !

Eh, this was fine but kind of boring. Very repetitive.

The beats got me moving, but I don't love the vocals and it's way too repetitive. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): N/A ⭐⭐: Didn't like it, didn't hate it. Saved no tracks.

Did somebody get a Casio keyboard for Christmas? A couple of the later tracks are alright but this is mostly irritating.

Aika hauskaa kolketta, kappaleet hieman liian pitkiä..

Not for me

Long. Like 6-1/2 minute per song average long. But not a good 6-1/2 minutes.

I listened to this song with an ear infection, so I might be judging too harshly. This is just wrong. The dance beat for an apparent rock album just doesn't fit and doesn't sound good. I didn't like this.
