Full of hits, the three tracks that I didn't know also smash. Easy 5/5

Classic Michael Jackson album, 5/5

Insanely excellent. Production, songwriting, vibe. Weird guy, great album

There’s a reason why MJ is known as the King of Pop. Regardless of public perception, his actual musical abilities were, and will continue to remain unparalleled. His status as a social pariah is an elephant in the room that many have already addressed, but god damn it, it’s so hard to not enjoy his music. “Man in the Mirror” may be one of the most popular songs on the album, and it happens to be one of my least favorites here. Which is insane because it’s still a really good song. I’ve never heard an MJ album from top to bottom before, this is the very first time I have done so, and when I tell you I added more than half of the songs on this album so quickly, I mean it. That last stretch of 3 songs alone, “Dirty Diana”, “Smooth Criminal”, and “Leave Me Alone” is absolutely legendary. My only criticism of this album comes from the middle, which has some skippable (but still absolutely outstanding) filler. Favorite song on the album? I mean damn, I can’t go with recency bias here and pick something I’ve never heard before, that would be disingenuous, “Smooth Criminal” is a brilliant song and deserves to be admired, so I’m going to pick that. I’ve been listening to it for a long time, for good reason. There’s so many good songs on this album, I didn’t even get around to talking about how good “Bad” and “Speed Demon” are. That’s just how good this album is as a whole. I know people like Thriller more, so I’m extremely excited to check that one out now. Bad? More like Good. I’m sure I’m the first person to ever make that joke.

The king of pop at his zenith?

Great great album, not much else to be said.

Love it!

great album. perfect for the genre.

Feels like a forgotten masterpiece now. No skips. The production is not in the same league as Thriller but it might be a better collection of songs.

This album is full of hits and variety all the way through - extremely enjoyable listen, likely Jackson's best album

One of the great pop albums of my time.

Basically a non-stop hit parade. As pop albums go, this one's pretty close to the top.

Vibes: 5/5 Instruments: 5/5 Production: 4/5 Emotional Value: 5/5 Storytelling/Lyrics: 4/5 Stand Outs: Dirty Diana, Liberian Girl Overall Rating: 4.6

I'm not sure I ever actually listened to this album all the way through. I know the singles, obviously, but did not know what the order was (i.e., Side A/Side B, etc.). Surprisingly, I liked the second side of the album more than the first. The first side starts out with the one-two punch of "Bad" and "The Way You Make Me Feel," arguably the most popular and still relevant singles from the album. However, I didn't really care for the other three songs that make up the first side. The second side, though, is banger after banger. I may be biased because of my love for Captain EO at EPCOT, though... Great album, probably not quite as good as Thriller, but still a solid effort. I would give it 4.75 stars, rounded up to 5 for the rating. And yes, like I mentioned in my review of "Moondance" by Van Morrison, it is difficult to separate the art from the artist, but for purposes of this review, from an objective standpoint - this is just good music that is enjoyable to listen to, regardless of the monstrosities the artist may or may not have performed.

Classic. Man in the Mirror and Smooth Criminal will forever slap.

So many bangers on here. Some songs are fillers, but these can be ignored

timeless

Love it. Own it.

Fantastisch album vol klassiekers

Neck and neck with thriller. A pop/soul/disco masterpiece. 5/5

A fine album. You’re either listening to some of the greatest music ever made or you’re in Spring Yard Zone from Sonic. Wicked.

det är inget o snacka om

5 - mastapiece

This album is amazing. Yes, the Thriller album is better, but MJ shouldn't be downgraded simply because he made another album that is arguably one of the top 5 albums of all time. Bad sold $30m+ copies for a reason. Front to back, this record is packed with hits. 5 #1s, 6 Top 10s, 7 Top 20s. Crazy. And this all holds up. Even the non-hits are good tracks. Liberian Girl is a smooth tune. Speed Demon is excellent. Leave Me Alone, which was released outside of the US but not a single domestically, might be my favorite song on the record. But back to those hits. Think about the diversity of these songs. A true dance track in The Way You Make Me Feel, A street anthem in Bad, A ballad about self-reflection in Man In The Mirror, a rock song (as much as MJ can do) in Dirty Diana, an R&B / rock mix in Smooth Criminal. And all of them bangers. Truly incredible stuff. A 5-star album

Packed with hits from start to finish.

Zaradi totalno prezaposlenega dneva, se lotevam poslušat ta album 20 do 9h, ko si končno delam večerjo. Uf. Album se odpre z naslovnim komadom - pač, amazing. Potem še en znan, "The Way You Make Me Feel", isto hud (in glih gledam na wiki, da je ta album mel 9 (!) singlov). "Man in the Mirror" je itak a fakin banger. U, recimo zj je meni čist nov komad, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", duet z Siedah Garret in začne se ful umirjeno in se razvije v prou lep ljubezenski komad. (Očitno je bil to taprv single s tega albuma & ona je cowritala prejšnji banger.) U, "Dirty Diana". Dejansko nism fulkrat še slišala tega. Hud. Sledi mu "Smooth Criminal", dj nehi. (5 od teh singlov je blo number 1.) In album zaključuje "Leave Me Alone", ki ga spet ne poznam, ampak lol, kok relatable.

I was 8 years old when this came out

What a banger. Good vibes

Without question a MUST listen! MJ at his finest.

There was never going to an album that was going to replace the greatness of Thriller and in my own opinion Off The Wall. If there was, this is the closest thing to reaching the heights of that album. Every song on this album (apart from Speed Demon) shows his excellence in a different ways. Mixing timeless hits with more slower hits that all show his greatness. There's a reason why he is always going to be the King of Pop.

Absolute classic!! Thriller is considered the best, but I really think that it's bad that defines what Michael Jackson is all about. I love this a lot, my favourite album by Michael Jackson. It just has everything, it has a take on every genre there is, and it's just timeless.

Absoluta obra maestra de álbum, tal y como lo hizo con Thriller. Récord de canciones guardadas en mi playlist.

The king of pop baby. Der blev rystet hofter gennem hele albummet

Hell yeah. Michael Jackson might’ve been a bad man at times, but his music is good.

Top 10 albums of all time

5 de 5

A classic. Only a few songs on this album weren’t huge hits. Fun to revisit an album I listened to constantly as a kid.

It's just so stylish and undeniably good

One of my favourite albums of all time and the first which, as a child, I obsessed over. One of the few albums I have multiple versions of.

No wonder MJ was th king of Pop. But, Mike, with that high-pitch soft voice, no way you were BAD! 😜

The King. An album with this amount of classics is just unfair to the rest

Smooth Criminal is so good it made Alien Ant Farm sound good! Man in the Mirror has no right to be that good. I Just Can't Stop Loving You's intro is my low point. Overall a spectacular album.

Legendary stuff that makes me want to shake it.

A classic. It's a shame that I only learn to love his music after his death, but this album with hits like Man In The Mirror, I Just Can't Stop Loving You will forever have a special place in my heart, and serves as great reminders of what a pure soul Michael was.

A classic album from the king of pop. 5/5

I LOVE POP MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

One of his best albums!

So many hits in this record. Amazing follow up to Thriller

Classic and forgot some of those tracks!

I never thought this would happen either, but I’m giving MJ a 5. I think I really enjoyed this because it was not played into the ground like Thriller. Last 4 songs are poppin’ off. My least fave is “Man In The Mirror”—not really my style of song but the message is spot on. “Leave Me Alone” is my theme song. This was my first time to listen to the album as a whole. I had mostly moved beyond pop radio into alternative by the time this was released.

This is a great record. Actually like it top to bottom better than Thriller.

One of the best. Hard to argue. Still holds up too.

rósz xd

My fav album from Michael, if people would actually plan their music nowadays, more people would be into pop music.

This album is fantastic and a GREAT follow-up to "Thriller." It justtttt misses the mark as a perfect 5/5, but it is so so good! Definitely Michael's 2nd best album! Actual rating....4.5. There are hits all throughout, although "Dirty Diana" is so underappreciated. Liked Songs: The entire album, but "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is the weakest.

I didn’t realize this album has all of my MJ favourites!!!

Hit after goddamn hit, eeee-heee!

Banger after banger after banger

He’s so good so tense shame about the circus

KLASIKA

MJ the best

Tired of the political bullshit people throw around to give him a bad rating rather than listening to his music and accepting it as what it is. Same for other artists. Whether they did wrong is irrelevant, was/is their music good? I hate Taylor Swift, but her music not the person. I'm sure she's a lovely person, I don't know her nor do I care. I still listen to R Kelly sometimes. Sure he's a monster for the things he did, but that doesn't take away the enjoyment his music gives me. Sue me. We incarcerate those found guilty, but also those found innocent these days. So it makes no difference, haters gonna hate. I never knew MJ personally, obviously, but I know his music and I love it. This is a great album, deserves to be here. He was a musical genius. Troubled, yes, but a genius all the same and he pathed the way for many other artists. "Liberian Girl" remains one of my favourites, "Dirty Diana" also, but "Man in the Mirror" not so much, perhaps it's the fact that it's the one song that Michael didn't write. I remember the amazing video to "Leave Me Alone" on MTV. Genius. "Smooth Criminal" will hold a special place in my heart as it reminds me of sitting with my best friend from primary school watching "Moonwalker" over and over again and begging our parents to rent it from the video club again. It also reminds me of the Sega Mega Drive game "Michael Jackson's Moonwalker" and that amazing spin he does as the first level starts, the coin flip into the air that falls into the jukebox and starts playing "Smooth Criminal". The same with "Another Part of Me" which plays at the title screen that you can't help singing along to instead of pressing "start"... played that game to death.

I mean…

Michael is Michael

This was the first MJ album I got. Automatic 5/5. Even if he was a deeply troubled person, his music was once in a lifetime. This isn't my favorite album of his, but definitely captures a huge chunk of the prime of his popularity. Even the B-sides would be greatest hits for any other artist.

It seems an impossible thing to consider, but how does one follow up the most successful album ever? Bad actually came pretty close to matching the previous success! Of the 11 songs on the record, 9 were ultimately released as singles. With “Bad”, “The Man in the Mirror”, “Smooth Criminal” and “The Way You Make Me Feel” be true stand outs.

Fantastic. For pop music to have this much longevity is amazing.

I cannot in all good conscience give this album any less than a 5 when there are so many Certified Bangers on it. It must have been a wild good time when this first came out. The songs in between were pretty fun as well.

Childhood hero

Klockrent med massa bangers och chill låtar emellan

All these upvoted 1-star reviews, and most of them cite Mr MJ being a child molester. Either that or a perceived "dead zone" in the album from tracks 3 through 6. Re the first point: sure, Mikey wasn't the cream of the crop when it came to proper human etiquette, but he wrote some seriously infectious material and (I would argue) changed popular culture for the better much more significantly than he marred it. And even if that weren't the case, you don't have to virtue-signal-hate all of his music to give the middle finger to terrible people like him. The art is not the same as the artist. Half the music on this list (debatably the better half) would be unlistenable if that were the case. Re the second point – that the album has at least one streak of unmemorable tracks – are you sure? Compare this to artists like Throbbing Gristle, or Pere Ubu, or Public Image Ltd – and you'll realise just how much MJ's other material (mainly Off The Wall and Thriller) have raised the standards. Because Speed Demon and Just Good Friends are solid. Great, even. The feel-good melodies and backing vocals, the insanely catchy basslines, MJ's energetic vocal delivery... you can't ask for much more from 80s music. But because they're not Billie Jean or The Way You Make Me Feel, the whole album is brought down? I don't think so. I'm willing to bet some people didn't pay attention during an initial listen, glanced at the Spotify numbers for tracks 3-6, saw they were a bit lower than the rest, and decided they must've been terrible. If that's how you're approaching the project, then you're entirely missing the point. Regardless... this is a great record. If not as good as Thriller, then it's darn close – and 80s audiences seem to agree with me. 5/5 Key tracks: Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror, Smooth Criminal

Great album

Day 15 POP MASTERPIECE!! I have listened to this album many times before. Its an incredible album, I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE SECOND listening to it. Love you MJ (5/5)

This is a very produced album, but it has some incredible songs. The most incredible thing about this album is how it has stood the test of time.

Michael peaked on this album. And the King of pop peaking, is a 5.

These are classic songs that have stood the test of time. This community seems to be more about indie rock, but there was a reason Michael Jackson was the King of Pop. People also may rate based on personal allegations, but the music stands apart. You can’t deny the impact he had on the music industry. Truly an icon.

10/10 This album is quite hard to listen to critically. I’ve heard it so many times, particularly as a child, that it’s almost impossible to separate the music from my personal connection with it. But I’ll do my best. This album (as with Thriller before it) is a triumphant combination of songwriting, production and vocal talent. Even listening to this today in a more ‘critical listening’ mode, there were little bits and pieces that sit deep in the mix and just throw continued variation, emphasis and interest that I’d not consciously noticed before. I think this is where Quincy Jones takes very good songwriting and elevates it with his production. And then Michael steps up to the mic and his vocal delivery (uhs, oohs, shamones and all) just smashes it out of the park. He conveys so much emotion, attitude and soul in his vocals, and even his little noises just expand on the production styling of Quincy Jones to keep momentum flowing and make sure things always stay interesting. I think if you were to give this exact same list of songs to another musician / producer combo, you’d probably end up with something far, far more mundane, but they just manage to weave pure gold out of each other and it’s a joy to listen to. Honestly, the only thing that slightly misses the mark on this album is the concept of Michael Jackson being some kind of badass. Songs like Bad and Dirty Diana have big echoes of a nerdy theatre kid thinking he’s a badass because he’s got a lead in West Side Story and gets to hold a knife. But putting that aside, I actually think this is a more consistently high-quality album that the more critically revered Thriller. But it also never quite reaches the heights of that album either. I listened to this through three times trying to find a reason to not give it full marks, but I just couldn’t. Bad - The least threatening man in the world (at least he is if you’re an adult) makes a song about being a tough guy. But it works; this is a great pop song. It probably doesn’t quite hold up as well thematically as an adult as it did when I was younger, but it really is well crafted. The way the different lines just guide you through the different sections is masterful. The Way You Make Me Feel - I have always loved the rhythm of the lead vocal in the verses on this track and how it pulls against the swing on the bass and drums. There’s just a whole load of groove to this and it’s great. Speed Demon - I always used to love this track with its completely mad bass line. I expect it’s a programmed DX-7, but it’s a pretty unhinged thing to just toss under a pop song. It’s still a good effort, but I can see why some people might see this one as a bit of a filler track. Mega 80s vibes. Liberian Girl - Quite a drop in pace for this one and a chance for Michael to show some of his vocal chops in a more exposed way. The guy had so much control. It’s another great pop song. The vocal harmonisations are really pretty, and while the rhythm is pretty stripped back, it still keeps things moving in a very satisfying way. Just Good Friend’s - To my mind, this is one of MJ’s best collaborations, even though it’s one that rarely gets mentioned. It’s so funky. Stevie Wonder (Michael’s 3rd cousin) doesn’t really appear until half way through, but when he does, he comes flying in with this really gritty delivery. Love it. This track really bounces, the synth lines are great and the overlapping vocals just keep kicking. Underrated magic. Another Part Of Me - Another one with a kicking groove. Michael and Quincy just don’t ever let things go stale. Even during a repeating section, there’s always little bits of ear candy, little riffs or lines that just keep up the momentum. I’d hate to manage a pro tools session with this many tracks, but on an analogue desk? Fuck off Quincy. Funky Bass line, quality transitions between verse and chorus, cool horns. Lovely stuff. Man in the Mirror - Home to the greatest key change in history? Quite possibly. It starts slow, but it has SO MUCH momentum and drive. Again, there are so many little bits and pieces in there underneath the main instrumentation. The lead vocal is ridiculously strong and the gospel choir is just gold. An exquisite pop song. I Just Can’t Stop Loving You - This is a more low-key effort. It’s probably the least interesting track on the album. Michael can generally elevate mediocre songs with his vocal delivery, and he does a good job here, but the lyrical content does seem a bit… dubious. Particularly given the, uh, ‘allegations’. Dirty Diana - This is almost like an audio play in places with the use of sound effects and the atmospheric production. Again, the lead vocal is super powerful. I think it’s a great song and something just a bit different from other Michael Jackson tracks up to this point, which makes it a great addition to the album. Quality guitars on this one too. Smooth Criminal - Absolute banger. Love the overlapping vocal lines all over the place, but particularly on the ‘Annie are you ok?’ bit. The instrumental break is so funky. The whole thing just moves. Bass line, that snare slap, the little staccato guitar lines. Fantastic. Leave Me Alone - This is another one that has got such drive and exquisite overlapping vocal lines. Structurally, it’s not necessarily the most interesting of tracks, but the Quincy / Michael combo just dust it with their magic yet again and turn in a very very good track.

Ah Bad by Micheal Jackson, the well anticipated follow up to the biggest selling album of all time Yeah i think its better 5/5

And just like that I’m already 67% done with the king of pop. Of course I like the opening title track, it’s an excellent piece of 80s pop. My favorite Michael Jackson song is “The Way You Make Me Feel”, I’m a like “Liberian Girl”, “Just Good Friends”, “Another Part Of Me” I love “Man In The Mirror”, and I’m a big fan of the remaining tracks. The only one I don’t care for is “Speed Demon”. Ultimately Michael Jackson is the epitome of 80s pop only challenged by one or two other acts of the era, and this is, in my opinion, his finest LP, while not held in as high regard as “Thriller” I think pound for pound it edges “Thriller” out.

obvi a great one, but kinda freaky lyrics if you're paying attention

So good! Never listened all the way through this album before, but it's so iconic. Loved it!

Of course trying to separate art from artist here but it’s hard. Banger of an album to be fair. Stood the test of time for sure. Specific rating- 4.6 Fav song- man in the mirror Least fav- Liberian girl

Exceptional album, all songs are incredibly enjoyable. From high sounding anthems and legendary songs to the soulful and calm sounds. What a legacy and amazing record this is.

Classic

One of the best pop albums ever

Classic

Ну это Майкл Джексон, здесь без сомнения положительный отзыв. На альбоме два самых громких хита и легендарных хита. Smooth criminal и Bad, поэтому безоговорочно высокая оценка

The king of pop with an album full of hits.

I feel like it's wrong to like this, but I just love it (said MJ about molesting children)

this is perfect. so much fun. every single song is a pop banger with so much groove and talent and outstanding vocals. legitimately enthralled the entire way

This album is nearly perfect, meaning the name is a lie. Since lying is evil, that makes this album no longer a good album, causing it to live up to its name. Favorite Track: Smooth Criminal

Perfect album... in fact, I didn't remember that it had so many perfect songs: Bad, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal, The way you make me feel, Man in the mirror... Come on, how many artists/bands have such a line up album?!? Only rating possible by this criteria has to be 5/5

Classic

An album by MJ that i’d yet to listen to to despite already knowing 75% of the album. Fantastic record, although not his best, its up there in great territory

The king don’t miss.

monumental. some modern day artists still struggle and fail to emulate even the weakest moments of this album.

So many bobs. Michael Forever

Michael Jackson hits that I did not previously know were hits, including hits that I did know were hits.

Debated between 4 and 5 but there are too many bangers to not give it a 5.

HEE HEEEE!

9.5 / 10 - Despite being a diddler there is a reason he was the king of pop. This album is what a pop album should be, catchy, groovy and stays in your head. The mixing is incredible, as well as the instrumentation. Bad is everything that thriller (often touted as the best MJ album) was lacking. I personally don't think there will ever be a better pop album

Fire album Sad that he touches kids

C’mon now. Favorite Track: Smooth Criminal

MJ is on another plane of greatness

All bad jokes and puns need to stop they’re boring.🤨 Badum tss

It might not be as good as Thriller, but that doesn't make it not a 5. Smooth Criminal might be my favourite MJ song. And no, the Alien Ant Farm cover isn't better.

Hee Hee Top Man in the Mirror

Not bad. Good.

Perfect pop album

A flawless pop album by just about any metric. No notes. Speed Demon absolutely rips.

Full of classics

마이클 잭슨, good

1. Bad - 10/10 2. The Way You Make Me Feel - 10/10 3. Speed Demon - 9.5/10 4. Liberian Girl - 8/10 5. Just Good Friends - 10/10 6. Another Part of Me - 9/10 7. Man in the Mirror - 10/10 8. I Just Can't Stop Loving You - 10/10 9. Dirty Diana - 10/10 10. Smooth Criminal - 10/10 11. Leave Me Alone - 8/10 9/10

Absolute belter. 🕺

impossible to ever stop loving

So many hits on this record, it's easy to see why people remember it as one of the greatest Pop albums of all time. I will say that while there are a number of hits, this does also have a few "misses" like "Speed Demon" and "Just Good Friends" which aren't necessarily "bad" songs but they just aren't anywhere close to the same level as the rest of the album. Everyone absolutely should listen to this album so I'm glad it's here.

Ngl, am absolute banger of an album 10 hee hees out of 10

grew up with his music, there was always mj playing out loud be it at home or in the car. for sure definitive sound of the 80's. also him being able to put out another massive banger of an album after thhheeee thriller is just the cherry on top!!

Classic

Great music

Stark femma.

It's one of his best albums so I need to rate it 5 stars. I'm not going to comment on the artist himself.

5 estrelas , pop clássico do Rei do Pop.

Not as good as Thriller, but that's like saying Rubber Soul or The White Album wasn't as good as Sgt. Pepper... You've already released the quintessential 1980s all time best selling monster record, how do you follow that up? Just casually make the 12th biggest selling album of all time I guess, make it have 11 songs and release 7 as singles and have 5 go to number 1 in the charts, make the "Bad" video be an 18 minute long short directed by Martin Scorsese? Sounds like a plan, be sure to throw in a world tour that seemingly never ended, play to 500k paying people over 7 nights at Wembley Stadium? Oh go on then...

I grew up after the Michael Jackson era and had never listened to a whole album before. Yep makes sense why he was so popular

Quite simply the greatest pop album of all time.

> the Beatles

I remember when MJ was a little boy in the Jackson 5. He was very cute then. My older sisters loved him. We danced to his music from tweens on. My kids got hooked on his music as tweens when his untimely demise was announced. My grandkids will probably be fans. He was as good as they get.

Another "separate the art from the artist" challenge. This album is a 5. If Michael Jackson wasn't Michael Jackson, it might be a 6/5. Dirty Diana into Smooth Criminal, is itself a criminal back to back banger.

OMG! I have an excuse to listen to this album again! I also have most of the songs liked already, but I'll listen to them again. I don't like speed demon, but I never did when I heard it the first time. It's so aggressively 80's, but that doesn't diminish the quality at all. I wanted to listen to this album critically and not call it an immediate 5, but it is a 5. My favorite song would have to be Dirty Diana.

One of the best.

how can you hate MJ.

Pop. Great album.

MASTERPIECE

So many singles it’s effectively like listening to a greatest hits album.

So good it got a second listen.

Is this aggressively 80s? Yes. Is MJ morally questionable? Also yes. But it's such a bop! The fact it includes Leave Me Alone meant it was always getting a minimum of a 4 (because that song is fantastic) but as a whole it's just a really entertaining record. 5/5

What a monster 5 x 5 star album. Gigantic hits from start to finish. It was only in this decade that I learned Michael Jackson stole his leather and zippers look during this era from Warrant who were still a still unsigned LA local band at the time. More people should know that.

Jumaleissön mitä settiä on Jacksoni aikanaan tehnyt. Niin paljon vaikutteita eri genreistä ja uuden teknologian hyödyntämistä. Törkeän tiukkaa soittamista ja hienoa sovittamista. Jessus. Vitonen.

Amazing album, this is why he’s the r king of pop. 5 out of 5

Speed Demon Dirty Diana Smooth Criminal

Perfect album! Jackson is the Great Master forever!

9/10 I really loved most of the songs maybe 2 didn’t really fit the rest it felt left out maybe it should have been in a different bundle

Wow. Such a good album. So damn good. I’ve come to the realization that I enjoy this album more than Thriller. And I LOVE Thriller. I never really sat and thought about it, but as I’m listening to one absolute banger after another throughout “Bad”, I realized this is my favorite Michael Jackson album. Fight me, I don’t care.

One of the greatest albums of all time. Straight bangers.

94/100. Bad by Michael Jackson is packed with some of his biggest hits and, personally, I prefer it over Thriller—likely because I grew up listening to it more. The album features top-tier production and some of the best-sounding MJ tracks, making it an electrifying and timeless listen. From start to finish, Bad showcases Jackson at his peak, delivering unforgettable melodies and unmatched energy.

Хорошо

This is the last of MJs imperial phase where he could not do wrong musically and he was at the top of his game. Arguments can be made about splitting the criminal and their crimes until the cows come home. This is the last album where the disparate sides of the artist are still somewhat balanced- he's still the popstar du jour and a bonafide hit maker, but even within the album we can see him becoming increasingly lonely, suspicious and (one positive) a bit more world-minded. Unfortunately his darker sides and odder musical instincts start to win as time goes on. Or perhaps the world moves on? Hard to say. This is a foundational album of my childhood so it admittedly has a warm glow of nostalgia, but removing that, I think it's difficult for ANY album to have an unskippable tracklist; this album has that for me. I don't blame MJ for trying different sounds and producers later in his career, but I think he was at his best collaborating with Quincy Jones.

I never had listened to this album passed the tile song. MJ really knew about beat to make you feel like dancing. He was known as the king of pop. I'd also call him the king of videos.

A lot of really amazing hits, the deeper cuts dont always reach the same level but the hits are amazing enough to the point where it doesn't matter much

I knew it would be a good album, no bad songs, I already knew a few so it was a good easy listen

I know Thriller is his most succesful era, but I think this is his most iconic era. Shout out to Another Part of Me! I forgot how much of a banger that is.

Amazing

Great album tbh. Hits, non singles are decent enough.

Bad - 9.5/10 - cult classic tbf what else do you expect - absolute belter! The Way You Make Me Feel - 8 - lyrics freak me out as does the music video poor woman - good song however. Speed Demon - 7.5/10 - beat was delicious - lyrical delivery not so much Liberian Girl - 9/10 - very sweet and calming - good tune Just Good Friends - 8/10 - intense in a great way. Another Part of Me - 9/10 - surreal Man In The Mirror - 7.5/10 - decent I Just Can’t Stop Loving You - 9/10 - rather calming and soulful tone Dirty Diana - 9.5/10 - synths and hard rock tone are ruthless - top top vocals Smooth criminal 8/10 - utterly iconic but bad >>>>> Leave Me Alone - 8.5/10 - funky - nice pre chorus and vocals especially on the chorus - nice closer Overall - 9/10 - absolutely iconic album bringing together a wide variety of styles to create a masterpiece - thoroughly enjoyed!

No idea how many times I've listened to this album over the years, given Michael Jackson was my first favorite artist, and yet I tend to forget there's a song on here he did with Stevie Wonder. It's a good song, but it says something for the quality of the rest of the songs that it's the least memorable of the bunch. I mean, you'd think having Stevie freaking Wonder on your album would be pretty memorable, right? Anyway, all bangers on here. Legendary album from a legendary artist.

top 5:: the way you make me feel, dirty diana, leave me alone, another part of me, man in the mirror hm to liberian girl because I always forget about it skips?:: never I was going to wait till I got home so I could listen to this on my record player instead of the Spotify remastered version but I don't even actually need to listen to it to form an opinion ! this is really where I feel MJ started to branch off more creatively even though he was plenty creative for his first 2 albums :p this is where we got his first TOUR tour and first real era with press tours and more public appearances. I love Bad so much, another one of the greatest albums of all time, another clear indication of how spectacular of a music artist Michael was. i don't have particular opinions or things to say unfortunately but I really do love all of the MVs from this era they're my favs! you guys talk about how certain artists yearn but I fear you haven't listened to enough MJ... The people putting 1s are just in denial this is one of the best albums of all time and I can say that 100% without bias. You can believe what you want but you can not deny the pure talent both throughout this album and through Jackson's entire discography. this is my 3rd fav of his personally and his 2nd best overall.

Michael is the king and always will be.

This album is just hit after hit. It was Michael's golden era for sure. Amazing.

BANGER

Would listen again

It's a real struggle for me to be objective about this album, but I'll try. Probably my earliest music memory is lying on the floor with the Bad LP sleeve open reading the lyrics as I sang along. My parents couldn't afford a leather jacket for me, but they bought me a denim jacket and my dad painted "Bad" on the back in the typeface from the album sleeve. Yeah, you could say I was a fan. Revisiting it, and it really is astonishingly good pop music. Obviously the big tracks - Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror, I Just Can't Stop Loving You, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal - are classics. Seriously?! Any three of those on an album is probably enough to make it a 5/5 as long as the other tracks aren't complete garbage. However I also love lesser known tracks like Speed Demon (anyone remember the video?!), Liberian Girl, Another Part of Me and Leave Me Alone. I reckon this is MJ's best album.

I feel compelled to watch A Goofy Movie now and I don't know why!

Not a massive MJ fan, but this album is solid. A lot of great hits.

This is the reason he was called the king of pop I don't think there is one Bad track on this album with several all time classics. If I was to slightly nit pick there are some sounds used that have not dated the best but is forgivable for the quality of the rest of the album.

I listened to this album while out on a run and it has not stopped being a bop all throughout my life. I did have the realization that I’m an idiot with what I thought about Liberian Girl 🤦‍♀️ Anyways the album was as good as ever and I was happy to listen to it

So many iconic songs from just one album. Even the clunker (Dirty Diana) has some good stuff to it

Майкл Джексон - это самое главное что есть в поп музыки и не только.

The White Era begins. Favourite Songs: Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man In the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal. Least Favourite Songs: Just Good Friends.

ma come si fa a dare meno di cinque stelle a un album che contiene Bad, Man in the mirror, Smooth criminal e Dirty Diana? non sì può.

Actually it’s good

A great pick-me-up

It must have been quite Dangerous to release Bad with such a style change after having your previous record change pop HIStory. But I guess MJ here felt Invincible at the time. I prefer the former album, but you know, this is still a damn great pop record. The vocal harmonies are stellar and completely Off the Wall. Heh.

And the winner of: “Album being the exact opposite of what the title leads you to believe” goes to…

So many bangers. It's reverence is completely deserved. Truly the King of pop.

Best MJ album by far, and such a good album anyway...singles on this are so, so good. Billie Jean should have been on this instead of Thriller because it would have made this one perfect.

Great album, songs with which I grew up. Brought back memories.

The singles are timeless. It's the first time I've heard the rest of the album and loved it

The King of Pop….one of the greatest albums

Banger after Banger

Very good album with no skips Favorite songs- Liberan girl, I just can't stop loving you, Another Part of me, Just good friends Least favorite songs- None

Already listened to this

It's really unfortunate that this is great.

One of the first albums I ever owned and still love it.

so so good, i cant believe i've never given it a proper listen all the way through 'just good friends' is underrated! and 'leave me alone' is so gooddd

The best album ever, the quality, the videos, songs, everything on this album is a true masterpiece

Seguramente el disco que más veces he escuchado en mi vida. Amo cada canción y jamás dejaré de oírlo y amarlo. Perfecto.

At least three quentesential pop singles. Incredible how this man captured the whole zeitgeist. If you want to know what pop music was in 89, this is it.

I've been hit by, I've been struck by, a smooth criminal

# Album Name: Bad # Artist: MJ # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: An absolutely monster opening to this album with Bad and the way you make me feel. The album has a real pop 80's vibe to it. Its like being transported back in time. Vocals are banging. Theres plenty of electronic vibes and funky use of trumpets and guitars. The production quality is very high as you'd expect on this. Very 80's of course. The album is a tale of two sides. The singles are absolutely knock out out of the park 5/5. But the filler tracks are really that - fillers! Looking at the wiki, im genuinely shocked about how many singles were released as part of this album. The man himself, well, fuck that guy. He is THE smooth criminal. Honestly. I had the same ponderings with townshend after listening to the who's my generation recently. Im rating this a low 5 on the music alone. The hits are absolute monsters imo. A zero for the man. # Top Tunes: Bad / The way you make me feel / Another part of me / MITM / Cant stop loving you / SC / Leave me alone # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Despite the name, the album is quite good. Classic beats all around, but the vocal work of MJ is unmatched. Easy 5! 'The Way You Make Me Feel' takes my fave slot.

I mean, it's Michael Jackson

ETC. U begrijpt het wel. 5 sterren zijn te min.

All time good, 10 out of 10, never getting old type music

A great album. So many good songs and a bunch of great ones. That signature rolling bass sound. Smooth Criminal is maybe one of the best records ever put down. A couple of weak songs, but they are quickly overshadowed by the greatest songs on this album.

and the dances!

Great album

i'm bad!!!

Putting aside the Michael Jackson of it all, this album is brilliant. I actually think it’s better than Thriller in most respects. Quincy Jones’ production is a standout, and there isn’t a weak track. “Bad” is such a great way to open the album, but I probably would have picked “Smooth Criminal” to end it rather than “Leave Me Alone.” This is MJ’s most mature, standout album.

Favorite Track: Man in the Mirror

Great pop album. Stands the test of time

bangers all over this album

Is there a better jam than Man in the Mirror??? ooof. What a legend. Solid record.

I've heard all of Michael Jackson's hits a million times, but I've never heard them through good headphones until this project. Bad is my 3rd album of his, and I feel like I'm discovering his music for the first time, which is really cool. This is a fantastic album.

I'm rating the music, not the man, and for me, this is a five-star album.

I love Michael Jackson. Also my mom loves Michael Jackson and he’s like the only non Indian music she ever acknowledges.

9/10 - Michael Jackson goes hard. A lot of good songs. I watched the we invited the wrong MJ video again and I did not know where "Give it to me" and "give me some time" were from but the jokes have become so much funnier. I also have distinct memories of elementary school listening to man in the mirror so it just brings me back. The hits are great the rest are fine.

This will be one of the albums that will forever define a generation. Michael made everything cool before he got strange. The album itself hovers around in the pop genre and then dips it’s toes in a lighter rock sound at times and then goes back. What am I doing really? No one taking part in this 1000 album quest has NOT heard this album before. I’m done

It's bad.

Freaking love this album. I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan and have played it over and over. Probably my 3rd fav from him. Another Part of Me is my favorite! As a fan of everything rnb and rock/metal (odd mix I know but my two fav genres). Dirty Diana is so up my alley and is my 2nd fav after APOM. Liberian is so chill and sexy. What a r&b jam. Such a vibe. Leave Me Alone is a hell of a message to the press. I just love this record through and through. I think it was such a statement for the mighty Michael Jackson. Especially coming off of Thriller being huge and trying to meet expectations.

peak mj, nuff said

One of the best albums of all time, and definitely MJ’s greatest work. Every single song is a hit. This is glorious. Get it, listen, love it forever.

Who's bad? Gotta love Michael Jackson, and Bad is good. What can I say about MJ? The pop, the synth, the VOICE. No bad song on the album, and several total bangers. The Way You Make Me Feel, Man In The Mirror, and Smooth Criminal. Annie, and anyone else hearing this, is more than ok. Love it. Best song: Man In The Mirror

outstanding not aged still sounds up to date

Amazing! 5/5

HeeHee

Hee-hee! Wooooohooooo! Owwwww!

In the five years after Thriller, Michael Jackson stayed remarkably busy. He toured relentlessly, joined the Jacksons for the Victory Tour, and released a slew of revolutionary music videos. Even the cheesy but well-intentioned global charity anthem "We Are the World" was a success. The question loomed: how do you follow Thriller, the best-selling album of all time and a cultural juggernaut? When Bad arrived in 1987, it answered decisively. Boasting five #1 singles, a #1 debut on the Billboard 200, and a suite of iconic music videos, Jackson solidified his reign as the King of Pop. While it didn’t surpass Thriller in sales, Bad was no less ambitious. Jackson reportedly wrote over 60 songs for the project, refining the final tracklist into a polished collection of 11. Tracks like the defiant title track, the optimistic "Man in the Mirror", the anthemic "Dirty Diana", and the swaggering "Smooth Criminal" stand out with dynamic production and powerful delivery. The Bad persona and tough-guy posturing was an amusing pivot for Jackson, whose squeaky-clean image made his claims of being "bad" seem almost laughable—though later revelations about his life would complicate this perception. But fans didn’t come to MJ for the lyrics. You listen to Bad for Jackson’s astonishing vocals, Quincy Jones’s impeccable production, and the top-tier musicianship. The layered harmonies and meticulously crafted overdubs—achieved without modern tools—are a technical marvel. The album is also remembered for its groundbreaking music videos. Each was a spectacle of choreography and storytelling, with directors like Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee behind the camera. For some reason, the video for "Liberian Girl" sticks out in my mind. It features a parade of 1980s celebrities—including Steven Spielberg, Whoopi Goldberg, John Travolta, and Quincy Jones—patiently waiting on the set for Jackson to appear. It’s a reminder of Jackson’s unparalleled influence at the time—only he could command this level of star power. Is Bad better than Thriller? It’s a matter of opinion. Thriller is a one-of-a-kind and has unmatched cultural gravity, while Bad is arguably more consistent (and doesn’t feature a subpar Paul McCartney collaboration). Did/Do I own this release? On cassette. Does this release belong on the list? Few artists in history have matched Jackson’s extraordinary streak from 1979’s Off the Wall to Bad. Would this release make my personal list? The bangers-to-tracks ratio says yes. Will I be listening to it again? Jackson remains a prime example of separating art from the artist.

I think the fact that Jackson has been deceased for quite a while now makes it easier to separate the art from the artist and appreciate his music. Bad came out when I was very young and it stands out to me as an iconic, decade-defining album from its time. Incredible singles here - including "Bad," "Man in the Mirror," and "Smooth Criminal."

Classic! This was in my library, although I don't listen to it often it is a masterpiece.

I liked how diversifies the styles were. Solid Album

Nothing needs to be said about this album. It's a 5.

One of the best pop albums ever put together. RIP Quincy Jones. I feel like you hear his influence right at the beginning of 'Bad'. Real music theory nerds would know the technicality, but I think that is some sort of jazz arpeggio with those first 5 notes. There's also all sorts of ear candy all over the album. With very few exceptions, everything is in the right place on this album. Rhythm tracks, instrumentation, counter melodies, backing vocals, song structure, musicianship (I think those are 32nd notes on the tale end of the Speed Demon chorus??). Jones and Jackson were at the top of their game. I listened to a Charli XCX performance the same day as this album and it reminded me that Jackson is simply on some other planet talent wise than so many other pop stars. A once in a generation talent. At the same time if we are honest, his personal life was pretty troubled and tragic. This album is indeed edgier than what Jackson had done before. A lot of his singing on this album is aggressive, angry and done through clenched teeth. The man seemed to be channeling some personal rage. You really hear it on Speed Demon and Smooth Criminal. Shout to 'Leave Me Alone' with an Afro Beat/Fela Kuti type rhythm through out the whole track and Michael putting on an absolute fucking clinic on vocal phrasing, time feel/signature changes and I'm pretty sure the words 'Leave Me Alone' are sung in a 'round'. Bravo to the kid from Gary, Indiana.

Classic album, classic Michael. Absolute 10/10 popular music. Released the year Kirsty (ma kind of part-time girlfriend but not) was born x

Awesom

One of the greatest albums on earth - absolutly

Naja Michael ist nicht mein großer Liebling - aber Respekt vor einem derartigen Feuerwerk an Hits muss sein. Michael diese Songs werden noch in 100 Jahren gespielt werden. "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad“, "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Dirty Diana", "Smooth Criminal", "Liberian Girl" sind einfach schön zu hören. Auch die anderen Songs sind exzellent in das Gesamtwerk arrangiert. Es hat überraschend viel Spaß gemacht das Album durchzuhören😊.

Favourite tracks: leave me alone; smooth criminal; dirty Diana; another part of me; the way you make me feel; bad; man in the mirror

居然有情景剧mv?好厉害。知道这个歌手很有名,但没想到他是这种声音。 每次都能带给我新的上世纪流行乐震撼……

Quite the opposite of the album name.

MJ's sound in this album is so iconic that if you took his voice out, I think the music is still clearly recognizable. Holy shit. Man in the Mirror straight fucks. Like, I knew going into listening to the album that it was probably going to be my favorite song. But I always forget just how great this song is. An insanely good album. Some of the songs are kind of forgettable, but the hits go so hard that they quickly make up for it. These songs don't measure up to Man in the Mirror imo, but deserve a shoutout: Bad, Speed Demon, Liberian Girl, Smooth Criminal. Favorite Song (far and away): Man in the Mirror

I forgot how great this was. It would have been perfect without speed demon and librarian girl. All other songs are hit after hit after hit. But the most impresive thing about the album is the progression and storytelling, common theme in songs (except librarian girl) with tying intros and outros. Its simply a maseterpiece that everyone should enjoy. Probably top 10-15 album in history of recorded music.

I mean, it’s Michael Jackson, yeah?

One of my all time favorites, from start to finish- no notes (speed demon can go though)

Favourite songs: Smooth Criminal, Bad, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, The Way You Make Me Feel, Leave Me Alone, I Just Can't Stop Loving You Least favourite songs: Liberian Girl 5/5

Ohh yessss. Dirty Diana goes so hard and then is followed by Smooth Criminal. You can’t fault it.

I forgot how synth-driven this was. And while I prefer Off The Wall and Thriller wayyyy more, it’s hard to argue against a top rating for this given the strength and number of singles, not to mention its legacy alone. I was not a fan of Liberian Girl and honestly the production is a bit dated and cheesy sounding. But not enough to move the needle downward. Does it speak to the level of cheesy 80s because I remember Weird Al’s parody (“Fat”) more than the actual? Hard to say. Shamm-on, Ham-on, ham on whole wheat, alright!

This is a 4.5 for me and I’ve debated to round up or down. Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Speed Demon (with that crazy ass video), Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana and Smooth Criminal are all amazing. Liberian Girl I can prob do without and a couple others are just okay. Man, gotta go with the 5: - nostalgia value. I remember having this cassette and watching all the videos - speaking of the videos. Moonwalker is such a random ass acid trip…that I quite enjoy. Smooth Criminal alone is cemented in culture. - I’m shamefully ignoring all the other stuff around MJ and focusing on music and creativity. 😬

For me this is right up there with Thriller. Not as good, but still incredible. 4.5/5

Every time I listen to a full MJ record I'm surpriseds by the number of dud tracks, like on this one Speed Demon is garbage, but I guess he was a hit single-based artist so it makes sense. Either way of course this album was great, the production was just something else entirely during this era of his music. Weird guy fun songs.

So so good. Feels a little edgier than Thriller.

The King of Pop. That's it. That's the whole review. 5/5 ⭐️

The singles blow everything out of the water, perfect pop songs. The album tracks are much weaker and sound quite a bit more dated with the clanky production. Still a 4.5 just on the strength of the singles, especially Bad, the Way You Make Me Feel and Smooth Criminal. Leave me alone is probably my favourite album track.

WOOOOOO!!!

Amazingly done. Once in a lifetime talent.

There are not many albums where most of the songs are international hits. This one is certainly one of them. That is MJ in peak form.

Despite the albums name, this record is very good! So many bangers from "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", "Smooth Criminal"... Even the filler songs, if you want to call them that, provide a lot of context to the rest of the songs. I find that these songs allow the record to breathe and shows versatility in the ability to write both upbeat, dance tracks as well as sentimental tracks where both can be catchy and memorable. I loved this record. I listened to it twice before giving my rating and loved it both times. Every song has a quality to it that make me want to come back to it. Guitars, bass lines, synths, vocals, overall vibe, all on point for every song. 5/5

El rey del pop. 3 megahits. Vinilo.

Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal, Man in the Mirror

Bad is a classic sequel. It's the same but just a little worse. I love Bad, don't get me wrong but it's no Thriller. It has two to three songs I find myself skipping more often than not. It still has the iconic sounds and melodies that MJ and Quincy Jones are best known for and some of MJ's biggest staples. It may be worse than Thriller but it's still a 5. Also I didn't know until I went looking for the vinyl a few years back that "Leave Me Alone" was a CD exclusive track...and one of my favorites on the album. :')

Awesome

Great album but it’s showing its age with the drum effects.

Obviously an All Timer.

The old saying of love the art, not the artist comes to mind here. I have a huge soft spot for this one, as it was one of the first non-kid music albums I loved while growing up. It's still great. If you weren't around when this was released, it might be hard to describe how this album took over pop culture for a while. Nine singles, seven of which made the top 20 on Billboard. Don't forget about the driving force behind MJ's best albums - Quincy Jones. I think this was their final collaboration, and it shows, as the quality dropped off in MJ's later albums. Stevie Wonder makes an appearance here too, which is never a bad thing.

Great album! Ofc theres the classics but even the lesser known ones are good

How do you follow up one of the biggest albums of all time? The music on this is pretty solid. Pretty inescapable when it came out.

Great album, year I was born, defo remember it a lot from my youth. Never got to see him as he cancelled the Germany gig we went to see

Classic.

I've listened to this SO MANY TIMES as a youngling. Pure 5. Bless you Mike!

Classic. Full of bangers. "Just Leave Me Alone" is underrated.

hate to be that guy but i genuinely think this is a 5…

Great!

I don’t give 5’s often, but when I do, I give them to MJ.

Amazing!! Nothing more to say.

Bad is consistently amazing throughout its entirety. It's outstanding. Compared to an album like Thriller, which is held up by its singles, and the huge dance choreography and music video of thriller itself.

I really enjoyed this one. It's just fast, fun, and super well-produced. The teamup with Stevie Wonder on "Just Good Friends" is amazing. I'd never heard that one before (I've heard most of the hit singles on here, and boy does it have a lot of them), but that's the highlight of the CD. Jackson already has an amazing voice (or did at this time), but pairing him with Stevie, who also has an amazing voice (but very different) is just a winner. And everything is just perfectly put together - wonderful backing vocals on most tracks (esp. "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Smooth Criminal"), funky rhythms, nice horns for color (if at times synth), and impeccable sound quality. There's some stinkers on here. "Liberian Girl" is regrettable. Few albums are flawless. I probably should've given "Thriller" a 5 as well, they're both great. But I liked this one better.

Man in the mirror is my favourite example of the truck drivers gear shift. 5 stars

An unrelenting hit parade - 5/5 (I enjoy that some of the synths sound like they are from Sonic the Hedgehog, as if we were all psychologically trained to love this by our youth)

Might be a hair better than Thriller… don’t @me

Discazo muy mítico. Con un estilo marcado único y una voz de otro mundo, la mezcla de pop-rock-funky es una pasada, da ganas de bailar y muchas de las canciones son reconocibles y con identidad propia. De los que uno escucharía una y mil veces

Amazing Smooth Criminal is my favourite Liberian Girl is solid

Great!

I don't know what is so magical about this album, I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but this album is perfection. I literally looped it for 3 more plays it was that good. Every single song fucks. The instrumentals are amazing and so in-tune with the 80's. The vocals are obviously amazing. There's really no need for a long-winded review here. This album is as good as it gets for pop. I could listen to it over and over and not get tired of it. Perfection - nonce or not.

Little Michael does it again Bad is aggressively 80's, absurdly catchy and unfortunately, a tad underwhelming with only a FEW select songs. Michael is similar to James Cameron in that they are both extremely talented creators who surround themselves with equally competent staff and crew to help make their productions the most polished pieces they can make. This shine can obfuscate the flaws of a bad film in Cameron's case, but when you are dealing with something as segmented as an album it doesn't quite work. Some of these songs are not necessarily 'Bad', but stick out like a sore thumb while sitting next to some of the most genre defining tracks of the era. This shouldn't take away from how incredible the highs of this album are. It has nearly all of my favourite MJ tracks in one place, each of which lift to the equivalent of a 9/10, but prevent me from being able to say it is perfect album. I don't even know what to discuss about the things I liked in this album (I feel like it is all self-evident). Some of these songs are Michael operating at 100%. A lot of it is similarly in-your-face as Thriller. The amount of synth in this album feels like a very rich meal, where it is so plentiful that you will enjoy it at first but might be a little sick by the end if you don't have the stomach for it (I thankfully did). On top of having some of my favourite MJ tracks in songs like Bad, Smooth Criminal and Dirty Diana (those starfuckers got a crazy ass song after them huh) I feel like each of these work better as songs than Thriller does. Where these are all great songs with equally incredible music videos (the synchronised dance in Smooth Criminal goes unnecessarily hard) I always felt like there was a piece missing when you didn't experience Thriller with the music video included. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with Speed Demon, I enjoy the instrumentals on this one but feel taken aback by the lyrics. A really dumb song even by pop music standards that feels like it was born from the brain trust of 'badass' Michael Jackson iconography (remember at the end of the Black or White music video where he is screaming in the rain then just animorphs into a panther?) Liberian Girl is a similar situation, where parts of the song individually are really fucking good but I can't see myself wanting to listen to it. Another case where it would be better as just an instrumental track. The backup singers towards the end salvage it a little bit too.

as much as i hate the term GOAT, this is one of the few releases that truly earns it. not only is it a stellar album by itself, but it also contains some of the biggest singles of all time. i don't think i have to go in-depth on what makes this album so good, its MJ at it's peak and everyone knows what smooth criminal and thriller sound like.

Absolutely wild to me that there was a 5 year album gap between this and Thriller with NO drop in quality whatsoever from the King of Pop. Bad is a classic, lots of memories of watching this on MTV while my parents could still afford to pay for Austar. The Way You Make Me Feel opens with a few well-deserved 'hehe's and is just as funky now on my 100th+ listen as it was the first time I heard this at a blue light disco. Speed Demon has some absolutely wild synth/bass work so whoever led the production on this song between MJ and Quincy Jones deserves a medal. I'm also a huge fan of putting car noises into songs. This song goes really fuckin hard. This whole album is full of extremely well-produced, well-written, and masterfully performed music. When your albums hits include songs like 'Bad' and 'Man In The Mirror' and your "filler" is songs like 'Just Good Friends' and 'SPEED DEMON' you know this is an undeniable 5/5. I prefer side 1 to side 2, but it's hard to say that when side 2 ends with the musical atomic bomb that is Smooth Criminal. It was said about Thriller when we reviewed it a couple of weeks ago, but I totally understand MJ Truthers after listening to this whole album. The video footage of people passing out at an MJ concert is no longer ridiculous to me.
