Reviews (page 2 of 14)

Michael Jackson has been called "the King of pop" for a reason. Hiis catalog and depth speak for themselves long after his untimely death. I think if he had been alive today the music industry would be a bit different, that is how influencial he was. Thiis is not my favorite album of his, (probably Thriller), but it is well rounded and has some nice moments.

Another album from the King of (Mediocre) Pop. I think the first half of this album is quite bad, and not in the way the album thinks it means. "The Way You Make Me Feel" is okay, the title track sees Michael trying to convince us how cool his is over the cheesiest 80s music one could imagine, "Liberian Girl" is awful as are the other tracks. Things get better on the second half. "Man in the Mirror" and "Smooth Criminal" are both solid pop songs, but the real highlight here is what might be the best thing Jackson ever put to tape -- "Dirty Diana". It's the closest Michael comes to actually seeming cool. The rhythm guitar has like a proto-Mk.Gee thing going on, it has a cool cello part that comes in, and I like how Michael's voice almost seems broken at the end. You have to wade through some cheese, but you finally get some badness. Light 3.5 stars.

Weaker than thriller and off the wall but still some bangers

Ok so 15 year old me really liked this album. Listening today has brought back emotions, memories, and the feelings of anticipation that your world is about to open up. You only grow up once and this album came out right as that was happening for me - first job, first GF, new friends and high school, paying attention to world events. This was a fun listen in this regard. But Weird Al has long since ruined Bad (I only hear fat). The shamones, checoos, and heehees just sound silly (Way Make me feel). The use of MJs own backing vocals is annoyingly noticeable - songs with guests / contrast are stronger. Speed demon and Liberian Girl are throwaway. Just Good Friends feels like Miami vice. Another Part of Me takes me back to a magical day at Disneyland - holding hands walking out of Capn EO. Man in the Mirror evokes memories of watching the video in our living room and feelings of hope I could make a difference in the world. Dirty Diana still bangs and is bright spot. Smooth Criminal also fun but the repeated 'Annie are you oks' now is noticeably tedious. In the end, the album is just a little too tight, too perfect, too polished to make me want to listen again. Off the Wall and Thriller remain better. 3/5

Michael Jackson’s breathy vocals are so corny to me. Man in the mirror is a song that I absolutely hate. Smooth criminal is the best song on the record. This is no thriller but can’t deny the cultural impact of this guy at the time. He was huge. But I still like weird Al’s version as Fat. Ham on ham on ham on whole wheat. All right.

obviously the singles are classics but this was middle of the road for me 3/5

Thought I would enjoy this more than I did... In many respects, it DEFINITELY seemed dated for sure, and the similarity among the songs (i.e. limited diversity) was also quite noticeable... No doubt there are a few excellent songs on here, and below are my are my ranks - "Smooth Criminal" - 7-stars "Man In the Mirror - 6-stars "Dirty Diana" - 5-stars "Bad" - 5-stars "The Way You Make Me Feel - 4-stars The rest however, are completely forgettable... I'm sure that MJ will have some albums on this list that warrant a 5, but the best I can do for "Bad" is to give it a 3... Also - I HIGHLY recommend the Top Rated review for the "Bad" album, as it was incredibly well done, and made my day it was so damn funny... It starts out - "...OK - here we go..." : ) Enjoy!!!

Great stuff

The hits on this carry pretty hard. A good MJ album but, in my opinion, this is where he started falling out of his great artistic era.

I don’t know. There are tunes I liked at some point, but they sound very drum machine and basic to me today. I’d never just put this album on a playlist.

I've never listened to this album all the way thru and this was no exception. Despite the fact that MJ was a talented artist, the album title says it all: BAD! This album is reaally bad. After the 15,000th breathy hiccup, my eyes rolled back so far in my head I couldn't see. My ears were suffering from such disappointment. MJ was trying really hard, WAY TOO hard. While there are some popular songs on this album, that doesn't mean it has any lasting value. the sound the songs, the lyrics--nothing aged well.

Michael Jackson moonwalked so shitty pop could ruin (music)

I just can't with the cheesy 80s pop anymore.

A collection of bland songs (the only one I kind of enjoy is smooth criminal) with an awful production: literally the sound of the 80s in the derogatory sense of the phrase... While the commercial success might be understandable, the critical acclaim will always be a mystery to me.

ehyyyyyyy he he eeyyyyy waht hare you doing heeeyeyeyeyyyyy

Hate the production on this album, all the instruments sound very electronic and not in a good way. There are 4 great singles, the rest is trash and very unforgettable.

Booooring. Crazy that this guy gets away with diddling kiddies for making bland ass music.

1. bad - 3 2. Feel - 2 3. Speed - 0 4. Girl -1 5. Friends - 1 6. Me - 1 7. Mirror - 1.5 8. Loving - 1.5 9. Diana - 1.5 10. Smooth - 3 11. Alone - 3

I can see what Michael was aiming for: portraying himself as a bad boy for the ladies. Unfortunately, the lyrics are so vaguely applicable that I can't help but think this is just a corpo's attempt to appeal to as broad of a demographic as possible. And the whole 'bad boy' act feels more like the one guy who wears leather jackets constantly claiming he's a badass.

Not exactly my thing and found quite difficult to separate the art from the artist. A few really good songs though

Great music for the masses. Would have been great if he had done a version without all the weird noises, sort of unplugged version.

This album - hee hee! - has become - dah! - a parody of itself - whoo! - and about three quarters of it - dah! - is rubbish - hee hee! - filler, like Speed Demon. Whoo!

Fuck persia

If only I could think of a pithy, one word review for this album Bad.

This album is real fucked up when you replace “girl” with “little boy”. Anyways, separating the alleged deeds from the music is tough at this point. Also beyond Bad and Smooth Criminal this record blows.

I did it. I listened to the whole thing. Aptly named first and last songs - it was bad and by the end please leave me alone, Michael. It was shite pop when it came out. Its dated shite pop now. What does it want to be? Its just bad poppy attempts at other genre styles. Its got nothing positive. Smooth Criminal is the only slightly palatable tune, but its proper dated cheesy 80s and the singing on that song is excruciating. And can he not sing any song on the album without Choo-cha, wooah, ah ah oww at the end of every line? I'm pleased with myself for listening to it, but its so bad it makes me angry. How can anyone like this processed tripe?

Like eating a Twinkie that’s been sitting in the pantry for 30 years. Still tastes the same. Not even that stale. But who wants to eat that? It’s Bad.

I just can't...

I'm going to file this under "when someone tells you who they are, believe them" lol I'm too lactose intolerant to enjoy this cheese-fest anyways. Woof.

Can’t separate the art from the artist.

More awful that I even thought it would be. Speed Demon followed by Liberian Girl killed any potential for a higher ranking than 1

Michael Jackson is complicated. On one hand, he made iconic, groundbreaking, influential music. On the other, he was most likely a child molester and a very fucked up person for so many reasons. So how do we judge him? For me, MJ is not my cup of tea. His music is too full of hee-hees, hoo-hoos and his weird, signature vocal tics. Every song on this album sounds horribly dated. The big pop songs are catchy and were hits for a reason, but listening to an entire album is repetitive. I understand the cultural importance of this and why people give it a 5. If you take the child molestation out of the equation, this is only a 3 for me. But we can't separate the artist from the art, so it gets a 1.

Pedophile, not worth my time…

In her line of work my wife has worked against a fair few awful people and she says Bad people can't help but tell you they are Bad. They find a way to tell you they are Bad. I didn't like it back then either. Anodyne.

??? Seriously why is this beast on this list and those out there claiming he’s not a monster ask the families of the children that he paid off …

#158/1001. Earlier I was thinking I'll skip this album. Before that I saw Leaving Neverland, and have refused to play MJ as a dj ever since. Before that I was a big fan. Well, what if all that is lies and people who are after his money? Let's see. In 1993, Jackson was accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy, Jordan Chandler. Jackson denied the claims and settled the case out of court for US$23 million. In April 2005, Ralph Chacon, a former security guard at Neverland Ranch, testified that he had seen Jackson performing oral sex on Chandler in the early 1990s. Chacon also described seeing Jackson passionately kiss Chandler and place his hand on Chandler's crotch. Jackson made an out-of-court settlement with the mother of another boy, Jason Francia, for more than US$2 million, who, in 1993, previously told police that Jackson never molested him. A former maid at the ranch, Adrian McManus, testified that she had seen Jackson kissing boys including the actor Macaulay Culkin, and described Jackson touching Culkin's leg and rear. She told the court that she had seen Jackson touching Chandler's genitals. Phillip LeMarque, Jackson's cook, said that he entered Jackson's room and saw Jackson with his hand in Culkin's underpants. Wade Robson and James Safechuck were depicted in the film Leaving neverland, providing descriptions of Jackson's alleged sex acts, including masturbation, oral sex and anal sex. Safechuck's mother Stephanie describes feeling elated and dancing upon hearing of Jackson's death: "'Oh thank God, he can't hurt any more children!' In the film Living with Michael Jackson, MJ was seen holding hands with 12-year-old Gavin Arvizo and talked about sharing a bed with him. In the 2005 criminal trial People v. Jackson (full title: 1133603: The People of the State of California v. Michael Joe Jackson) Jackson was indicted on four counts of molesting a minor, four counts of intoxicating a minor to molest him, one count of attempted child molestation, one count of conspiring to hold the Arvizo family captive, and conspiring to commit extortion and child abduction. Jackson had begun serving him and his younger brother wine, sometimes concealed in soda cans, showing them pornography and making sexual advances. He said that Jackson had twice manually stimulated him to ejaculation after they had drunk alcohol, and then told him that if men do not masturbate, they "might rape a girl". Gavin's younger brother, Star, told the court that he had twice seen Jackson molest Gavin. He also said that Jackson had displayed his erection and masturbated in front of them, telling them that "everyone did it", and encouraged them to try it. "We expected better evidence, something that was a little more convincing. It just wasn't there." For me MJ remains not BAD, but filthy, foul, nasty, dirty, lousy, smutty, sleazy, bum, cheap, cheesy, chintzy, crummy, punk, tinny, seamy, seedy, sordid, squalid, kinky, distorted, misrepresented, twisted, depraved, perverse, reprobate, and immoral. and the album sounds and feels very plastic nowadays.

I'm not listening to him

This isn’t music for grown-ups.

I knew I had to come across Michael Jackson on this list eventually, and I dreaded it. As far as I can remember, I’ve always hated both the man and the artist. It’s difficult to explain why – it was like hate at first sight. As a child in the 80s, I found him vaguely repulsive and weird, as if he was an alien parading in a badly imitated human-skin disguise. As a teenager in the 90s, his music was the embodiment of everything I hated in pop music – shrill, artificial, full of fake enthusiasm and synthetic noises. As an adult, I simply had zero interest in his antics (and better music to discover). Anyway. It’s hard for me to listen, let alone review, an entire album of this nonsense. I did it though, for the sake of this challenge. I tried to keep an open mind, but in the end it didn’t change my stance – I still think it’s pretentious, style-over-substance, fame-obsessed garbage. Almost every single track grates on my nerves like nails on a chalkoard. His constant high-piched yodeling and his stupid yoo-hoos and yee-hees simply drive me insane. I’ll admit that Smooth Criminal is not a bad song – it’s groovy and very listenable, once in a while. But that’s about it. Usually, I would rate this kind of album a 2* despite my dislike, because I objectively recognize its influence. But for once I’ll make an exception and judge entirely from the heart. Yee-hee !

I could never understand why that guy is so loved beyond doing big stages, this album changed nothing. Corny, gllib, squeaky, overproduced - truly Bad (excl. Smooth Criminal).

I used to like his music. But I just don't really want to listen to him anymore.

I listened to this album as I was reading, as opposed to the other albums. I personally don't enjoy MJ's voice. Maybe its cause I didn't grow up with MJ. But this album didn't really do it for me.

It was, indeed, bad.

Bad it’s terrible

Y’all can’t convince me to listen to this child molester - seems like a waste of time

Michael Jackson.... Child Molester. Every time he's talking about I'm Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, I Just Can't Stop Loving You. I cannot not think that he's talking about all the little boys. In an attempt to separate the evil from the music: yeah, most of this album is trash. Over use of synthesizer... but the synth percussion was especially grating from start to finish. That being said, I somehow like Dirty Diana and Smooth Criminal though.

Nah don't wanna listen to this guy

No MJ, you aren't Bad, but you are average

I have a confession: this is the first MJ album I’ve listened to in its entirety. I’ve only ever played the singles. This did not disappoint! Glad to hear the GOAT on “Just Good Friends.” It’s been a while since Mason really enjoyed an album of the day, but he and I danced through the entirety of this one. Definitely a highlight of recent pulls!

One of the most well crafted albums ever made with one of the strongest tracklists ever constructed All 10 songs are so strong they could have all been singles Pop perfection This is the blueprint

I’ve listened to Off the Wall, and I’ve listened to Thriller, and they’re both basically perfect albums. I don’t know why I expected to like this album less. The truth is… this album is just as great! It’s a little edgier, it’s got some grittier beats, but its still MJ serving the same groovy music we’ve loved since ‘79. My personal favorite, mostly for nostalgia reasons, is The Way You Make Me Feel - apparently, it was my first favorite song, and.. I can totally see why! Toddler me had some good taste lol The other standout was Dirty Diana, that guitar man.. that whole instrumental is so dirty and raw and it just hits you hard. My jaw quite literally dropped hearing the guitar come in on the chorus the first time. But honestly, the entire album is outstanding. 10 out of 11 songs made it onto the playlist, with 6 being favorited, and that’s probably due to change sooner or later! I will admit - and it may be blasphemy - but the one song I was relatively indifferent about was Speed Demon. It’s.. okay. I just feel like, for some reason, it sounds “incomplete”? I really don’t know how to describe it, it just feels as if the song is missing something. Better mixing, more bass, something. But every other song was an amazing showcase of Michael’s talent. The harmonies on Liberian Girl just knocked me out, and the unexpected collab on Can’t Stop Loving You with Siedah was a great addition! Her voice just adds such a beautiful layer to the song. This album is like a grown-up, angstier Thriller. It’s got some political messages, deals with more mature aspects of love, has some heavier beats, and does it all while still delivering the groovy, funky sound of Michael Jackson we all know and love so much.

Anything less than a 5 and you haven't listened to it.

Impactful, iconic, meticulously composed, and catchy. Michael Jackson embodies stage performance with every cell of his body, and even the studio-recorded songs sound as lively and energetic as if he performed for his life. Great music, influential and inspiring.

I personally loved it, MJ is the king of pop for a reason.

What can you say, hit after hit. Great album.

I LOVED IT OFC I HAD HEARD IT BEFORE BUT THIS WAS A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE NGL

a reason for each star 1/has one of my fav songs: leave me alone 2/lowkey an album without skips 3/THIS IS MY GENRE 4/80s disco which i love 5/one of the best key changes in man in the mirror 10/10 coz 5/5 isnt enough

Iconic shitttttttttt.

BANGER

goddamn I love Michael Jackson

Hey this Michael guy is pretty good at making music. In all hoensty, I have never listened to a whole album of his before, and its surprising for me how its all just good songs. He has such good energy in his performance that makes each song stick out while I'm listening to it.

All vibes nothing could go wrong with Michael's music voice amazing lyrics perfect vibes he got it all instruments all bangers 10/10

Incredible album

Michae

Was hoping to hold off on my first 5 star review for a bit but got Michael for day 3. Timeless 👌

Great album

Every pop star thinks they're MJ till MJ walks in the room. I tried to avoid picking highlights that were singles but I didn't realize how many fucking singles are on this album! Either way I went with: Just Good Friends, Leave Me Alone

Petarda

1987 was the year of anticipated follow ups - Joshua Tree, Tunnel of love, Hysteria and this was the biggest of them all when it came to 'what's it going to be like?' Michael's last collaboration with Quincy Jones saw more self penned songs (only Just good friends and Man in the Mirror were written by others) and a very different look in the wake of his skin grafts following his hair catching fire on the Pepsi commercial. My recollection is that only Speed Demon and Just good friends were not issued as singles which would have meant nine in total were released up to early 1989. A list guests such as Jimmy Smith, Sieddah Garrett, Steve Stevens and Stevie Wonder added to the stellar cast of session players. Couldn't top Thriller's sales but still a triumph artistically.

Might be a tiny bit less legendary than Thriller, but an imcredible banger of an album nometheless.

Legendarisk album, legendarisk produksjon. Helt rått

Amazing album, with a fantastic cross-section.

Experiência maravilhosa ouvir Michael Jackson no auge. Esse álbum engloba tudo de melhor! Que energia! Celest Phoenixcall.

At the height of his powers. So intense, groovy, and packed with incredible and emotional vocals.

SO GOOD

Beyond iconic. Every song is a classic. That 80s guitar, drum, and synth style hits so fuckin good and Michael is basically the one who invented it. Fuck him as a person but I can't deny the power of this album

A lot of albums have juice, but this one’s got the sauce

banger after banger after banger

Great album, shame he’s a big paedo

He is a terrible person but this album is irresistible to music lovers

Lov it

clasicazo

An absolute classic from the King of Pop. I'd heard over half of this album before, so had high expectations, and they were definitely met. From the songs I didn't know (the tracks 3-7), I really enjoyed Speed Demon, Liberian Girl and Another Part of Me. Just Good Friends is the only potentially forgettable song on the album for me. The rest is banger after banger. Just a superstar at the peak of his powers. Bloody fantastic album.

So good. This is MJ doing whatever he wants. Some cheese here but such a great sounding album with plenty of bangers.

nunca tinha escutado todo. mt bom! gostei de vdd

Nobody like Michael Jackson. Catchy and his vocal style is unmatched.

9/10 Only reason I wouldn't say 10/10 is because I think Michael has done better.

MJ will forever be the king of pop. Every single song on this album is a bop. Yes MJ had his controversies but what he did for music is legendary.

Smooth Criminal is another Billion play song, but you also get Bad, Man in the Mirror, and the Way You Make Me Feel. It might not be Triller, but it still a generation defining album.

Suficiente un tema o dos

One of my all-time favorite albums and my favorite Michael Jackson album period. The production is so crisp, every instrumental element adds to the exciting atmosphere established in every song. The 80s would not be complete without this album.

Album de 1987 que suena atemporal! Lo estoy escuchando en mayo de 2026 y suena incredible. Canciones imposible de olvidar. Sonido claro que muestran la esencia de este artista inmortal.

Geweldig

Absolute classic. I had this on CD as a kid. Constantly listened to the classic man in the mirror. An album I can listen to start to finish and never get bored. It has it all. Forgot how good Just Good Friends is also. Such a funky track. Always will be a 5/5 for me. King of Pop. 👑

The man could write and perform pop music like no one else. Every song is a hit!

Ive just been kn the movie, obsessed

albumazo toca bancar

The king returns for a second album.

Absolut banger

Michael Jackson was an incredible performer and singer. Many of the songs on this album show his expanded repertoire. It’s truly enjoyable with the different stylings and messaging. Though, this album is so firmly set in the 80s due to the bass alone. I will never get over hearing that industrial reverb. Still, this album is incredible and highlights why his musical legacy will live on, even if his personal legacy is forever marred.

Stylish even in 2026!

One of the best albums there is, absolute hit after absolute hit including Bad, Man in The Mirror, Smooth Criminal and The Way You Make Me Feel. Great album to dance in the kitchen to.

Every song an absolute banger.

Classic 🙌Loved it

one of his best albums oat

I had heard lots of the songs before. Didn’t know they all came from one album

classic, love it

There are so many great songs on this album that get overlooked because of the other really great songs

Not all of them were hits, but they could have been.

eu asmei

There’s not really an off song on this album, all hits in their own way. Obviously it has the bangers like, bad, smooth criminal and man in the mirror. But honestly I felt it’s a great listen. Fully understand why this is on the list. Wouldn’t normally think as a go to, to listen to MJ but now I want to listen to more.

Excelente disco, de lo mejor!!!!!!!

Pretty good. Has my favorite Jackson song on it (“Man In The Mirror”). Would say its a four but with the bigger hits on it (“Man In The Mirror,” “Smooth Criminal”) its a 5.

I mean it's Michael Jackson

9,50/10 Que puedo decir, es Michael Jackson, no erra un tema este tipo. No es un 10 porque algunos temas no me terminaron de encantar, de rompe huevos nomas

Ah, and so the king of pop rears his ugly head. This album has a few of the stone cold classics, and I have a hard time saying the rest are bad. Maybe a tad dull. Seems like a 4. possibly i push this one up to 5 on account of having man in the mirror which I think might be the best of his hits? And the rest get to stay down.

Isch zwar nöd s best aber trotzdem so peack

Michael jackson eif peak. ( Die 1stern rezensione sind so miserable btw)

Another album I've got too memorized to be objective. Throwing it a 5 to spite all of the whiny haters on here.

If this list was 1 album you need to hear 1001 times before you die, this would be the album.

5 sterren. Bad The way you make me feel Man in the mirror I just can’t stop loving you Smooth criminal BANGERS

All time classic. Probably top 50 easily. Great listen. Favorite song is "Just Good Friends" or "Man in the Mirror"

absolute perfection, no skips in this album.

Bangers all the way down. 5/5

One of the greatest albums of all time

Que álbum tan increíble, me gusta mucho, me encanta la energía de este álbum

I liked it a lot, a solid 8/10, my fav song was Dirty Diana, I was vibing the whole time.

The best ever

really good because of course it is

Its the King of Pop at his zenith. This album might not have sold as many as Thriller, but its still damn good.

Separate the art from the artist. Sure. The album has a lot of really, really brilliant songs. The man who wrote and performed these was a singular kind of talent, and it's impossible to deny that. Really a musical genius who defined pop culture for a period. However, we're also talking about somebody who harmed or ruined the lives of an unknown number of children and suffered no consequences for that. Somebody whose position of power and privilege allowed him to live with no repercussions, even beyond the grave. Even today, in a time when society now is better than ever at holding our heroes accountable for their actions, this guy still seems to get away largely unharmed. A movie about his life will be in cinemas in a few months that will portray Michael Jackson as a genius and a visionary, and likely ignore entirely the manipulative and harmful actions he used towards children and parents. Fuck this guy. I don't believe in heaven or hell, but if I'm wrong and they do exist I hope it's really fucking hot where he ended up. 5 reluctant stars. 5 stars for the music, not the man.

Realmente es un álbum que refleja lo que buscaba Michael salirse de todo lo que venía haciendo y romper y superarse aún más post thriller

I had forgotten how wanderful this album is. One song after another is a jorney to memories. Thank you, Michael.

Goated Album

Classic album. Although I did not care much for the other songs

Classic. All of him is classic and awesome. Even for a GenZ

Fantastic timeless album, not much else to say. The music is funky, exciting. the vocals are iconic.

It deserves all the hype - every song is incredible.

хи хииии

Favourite Songs: The Way You Make Me Feel Liberian Girl Just Good Friends Another Part Of Me Smooth Criminal Leave Me Alone

Perhaps the most ironically named album ever made, because this is goid. Although bad meant good back then, but now it means not very good again. Whatever, it's an album of stone-cold classics, only tempered by some mid-album tracks that stick out like a sore thumb in the midst of their superior company. There's a run of songs in side 2 that's arguably only rivalled by Abbey Road for sheer continuous quality. And the fact Jacko was stepping up to write the songs now adds even more credibility. Is it better than 'Thriller'? Does it matter? But yes - yes it is.

What an iconic album

Very good album. Groovy, Upbeat, Beautiful, what you'd expect from an album by Michael Jackson. Another Part of Me and Dirty Diana were my favorites, but all of the songs could hold up on their own. 9.1/10

On hyvö

This album is BAD ass

I still believe The Way You Make Me Feel is one of Michael's best, and produced perfectly. Have it on vinyl, haven't had an opportunity to listen to it yet.

Зажигательные песни!!

Toujours aussi excellent, tout simplement le goat (je suis pas objectif)

Goated asf

5/5 hell yeah. Everything slaps every time. Icon diva yass I have nothing interesting to say it just bangs heavy saved in my library

80’s Pop ⭐️Dirty Diana

Michael Jacksons best album for sure, Liberian Girl is a mastepiece, and so is Leave me Alone, Just Good Friends, and basically every other song on this album

One of the best pop album ever played

229/1089 Just a REALLY great pop album. The fact that the album tracks hold their own up against the hits is amazing and you can hear the direct impact these songs would go on to have. something I love about this challenge is when i’m given an album by one of the greats and it meets my expectations and this was one of those times faves: Smooth Criminal, Speed Demon, Liberian Girl, I Just Can’t Stop Loving You 84/100

This is my personal favorite Michael Jackson album, and while I think dark/evil Michael Jackson is hilarious as a concept it works musically. There is such a unique sound for him on here and the track list is absolutely stacked. It helps that Dirty Diana, my favorite MJ song, is on here. I am always somehow surprised at how good this album is.

Grew up on this record, know it by heart.

The rare album by a black - or even pop (ie not hair metal or REM/U2) - artist that I owned and loved when I was in sixth grade. Unpopular opinion, this is better than Thriller. Man in the Mirror is an all timer, and I have a soft spot for Dirty Diana.

Daarom was MJ in de 80’s de King of Pop!

One of the best pop albums of all time

Wykurwiste. 5/5 Mnóstwo bangerów

Have decided I’m being too much of a hater so from now on being more positive with my rankings– this is no better than all of the other albums so far my criteria has just changed!! It is however a great album– did not know that all of these songs were on the same album

Listened driving my wife to and from work. Didn't think I'd end up liking this as much as I did. Neil Cicierega has forever ruined Smooth Criminal for me as I kept singing "One Week" instead of the actual lyrics. A classic.

Michael Jackson é sempre una garanzia, pezzi eccezionali e intrattenenti come pochi.

Great Album

music is love

Maybe because it is the first album that introduced me to Michael Jackson but I can't see myself giving this with anything other than a 5!!

Like 4 classics from one album, wow.

Straight bangers back-to-back-to-back

omg i’ve been waiting for a MJ album. finally. surprised i didn’t know all of these already!! had a great time with this

excellent

MJ is so good. So many bangers here. Nuff said.

un clásico 10/10

No notes - almost every song is a banger. Loved this album

I mean, are we serious? Its not even the best MJ album, but its still a 5.

Wow, "Speed Demon" is a rad song. "Liberian Girl" is terrible. This was a super fun listen. I went through it twice. Despite being 80s-tastic, it holds up really well. It's a great album and MJ was a great entertainer. The lyrics are kind of ridiculous. Pop music. Let's go.

lo amo

Michael Jackson has multiple albums that are no skip, six star, bonafide classics. He truly was the King of Pop throughout his life. All the songs on this record could stand alone on their own accord but float into one another so seemlessly. I am jarred how amazing album is. This album takes you to right back to the eighties but holds up just as strong today.

How on Earth do you follow such a cultural thenomenon 'Thriller'? Well, in what might be a controversial opinion to some, by making an album that's even better. Michael Jackson had a gargantuan yet turbulent period in the years following the unbelievable success of 'Thriller'. The album became the best-selling of all time, won 8 Grammys and ensured for a good two-year period that Michael Jackson dominated headlines. However, the pressures of success soon got to him. He suffered second-degree burns to his scalp filming a Pepsi commercial in 1984 and he largely withdrew from the public eye across 1985 and 1986, where the press constantly hounded him about his change in appearance (facial work and lightening skin became prominent with Jackson about this time) and his bizarre behaviour (taking his pet monkey, Bubbles, everywhere, and sleeping in an oxygen chamber). Much has been said about Jackson personal life already that I'm not going into it further. I'm just providing snippets to contextuallise 'Bad' and how the lead-up is significant to its creation. 'Bad' is edgier, funkier and more badass than 'Thriller', and as a result, I like it better. Jackson took all the buzz, good and bad, from the previous years and fuelled it into a stellar collection of songs that explore self-confidence ('Bad'), personal responsibility ('Man In the Mirror'), defiance ('Leave Me Alone') and, quite literally, a smooth criminal in 'Smooth Criminal'. 'Bad' is also notable for being the album in his discography where Jackson has most creative control, writing all but two of the songs. Jackson's in fine form on this record, having well and truly grown into his voice and shows more range and variety here than on 'Thriller', and considering the metric f***ton of pressure he would've been under following up the highest-selling album, its such a shame that 'Bad' is more widely regarded as his true crowning achievement, as it was made in much more difficult circumstances, had the weight of expectation that few artists before (or since) have probably felt and served as essentially a soft reboot. I may be very much in the minority here, but 'Bad' is Michael Jackson's definitive artistic statement as far as I'm concerned. Regardless of how you feel about his personal life and bizarre behaviour, 'Bad' is truly a genius record that sees Jackson at his most unfiltered, raw and unflinchingly real. Best songs: Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man In the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal, Leave Me Alone

Great album

Classic album. No notes

nyt on niin paras levy että kaikki tähdet menee tähän

og can't go wrong

Thank you. Finally you had Michael, which was long overdue.

This is pretty incredible. I kind of wanted to hate it, but I can't. Never really got into MJ in my youth. Listening to the album I totally get why it was so big. There is probably 2 songs that are average, the rest are pretty damn good.

Not bad

Very good album, A classic one. Song I like: most of the song are great. Special mention to the way they make me feel, Liberian girl, Man in the mirror, I juste can’t stop loving you,

Not too Bad

Crazy good production. Banger of an album.

Surprisingly, I don't think I've listened to this entire album before. I liked all of the songs I hadn't heard. Even through all of the hits, The Way You Make Me Feel still stood out the most. 5/5

Michael Jackson had such confidence and style. He was unapologetically and confidently the King of Rock. This was the first album of his I have jammed, but I feel like I have been missing out. The music video for The Way you Make me Feel made me a little uncomfortable - that that is by todays standards. It felt like he was stalking that women. Dirty Diana was a great song- I don't remember ever eharing it before. Now Man in the Mirror, Bad, and Smooth Criminal are songs I recognize from the radio. Six hits from one album is impressive!

Excelente!

I think this album and a couple of his other albums in this period were his best work. Great tunes, arrangements and musical performances were at their peak in this period. This work is sublime. Michael hit his sweet spot.

so good! want it on cd

Fantastic album 10/10

What can I say, it's Michael Jackson.

Don't like the man.. But the album is undeniable. Had me groovin and bussing and hehe'in at work.

Amazing!

"Bad" saw Michael Jackson going in a direction that was decidedly much more rock-oriented than "Thriller", and I love that. The guitar that is so present and driving on "Bad" (the song) is a force for the entire album. "Dirty Diana" has always been a personal favorite for this very reason -- the guitar is as filthy as she is, in the best possible way. In my opinion, this album in its entirety wasn't quite the non-stop slam dunk that "Thriller" was, but "Bad" still contains a big chunk of Michael's biggest hits; these songs cement Michael's post-Thriller legacy. All in all, I would say this album is probably about a 4.5 for me. While there are a few misses for me, those misses are still above-average in my book. But the wins on this album are truly epic and exceptional, and outweigh the lessers both in number and gravity. I decided this was worth the round-up to 5.

What can be said? It's a masterpiece, every track a gem!

Wow yeap MJ is a 5

Literally the king of pop

Kedvenc/Favourite: The Way You Make Me Feel Nagyon egyedi hangzása van minden dalnak, tetszett, hogy több műfaj és téma is megjelenik, keveredik. Annyira nekem nem állt össze egy egésszé, de nincsenek rossz dalok rajta, talán még közepesek se. Every song has a very unique sound; I liked how it features and blends multiple genres and themes. It didn't quite come together as a cohesive whole for me, but there aren't any bad songs on it, maybe not even any mediocre ones.

Tune after tune after tune.

I love this album. For the longest time I hadn’t listened to this and now I have no idea why. Compared to Off The Wall, and Thriller, this has a much sharper and harder edge, obviously showing Michael Jackson wanting to move more towards a sound of his own, rather than following his families footsteps. Loved that he’s embracing his own style and that a lot of the lyrics reflect that. The increased guitar work and influence from rock is so good, and makes everything just that bit punchier. With this though, you still have moments of tenderness like Man in the Mirror, which really is the emotional centre of the album, discussing how he’s changed, hopefully for the better. For all the influence this has on some of my favourite artists such as The Weeknd, this albums legacy cannot be understated, and having finally listened to it, it loved up to that legacy.

Peak Jackson!

Unexpectedly loved this

I don't think I really need to give the rationale behind my rating

This album being labeled as a commercial disappointment because Thriller outsold it, is the best argument I’ve heard for why capitalism is bad. At a minimum this is on the same level as Thriller but songs like Dirty Diana, Just Good Friends, and Liberian Girl make Bad superior in my opinion.

MJ is in the Beatles category to me....I'm just not going to give it less than a 5. Unless they have "History" on this list, which I doubt. I could credibly argue that this is my personal favorite MJ album, even if not regarded as his masterpiece. There are some weak spots - "Leave Me Alone" and "Liberian Girl", imo, and maybe even the Stevie duet - but enough bangers to make up for it and this is the King of Pop we're talking about here. 5 stars

I think its a good album for doing work or making the house things like cleaning your bedroom, kitchen etc, specially if we are talking about the king of the pop, Good music

Damn, Michael Jackson really was an incredible artist. This album is chock full of ear worms, incredible performances, and memorable beats. Even the “worst” songs have jaw dropping musical choices in them. Bad is good. Really really good.

9/10 Half the album is greatest hits and 2-3 more could also be. I hope all victims of abuse find justice and peace, but this is a fucking banger.

Zieke bangers

Really an i credible album. Smoother and less edgier than Thriller and in my opinion maybe a shade weaker but still all time pop album great. Cool songwriting and production mixing all kids of styles and Michael’s vocal performance is insanely good.

i mean it’s micheal jackson

Favourites: 1. Liberian Girl 2. Dirty Diana 3. Leave Me Alone Least Favourite Just Good Friends

Honestly just no words because of how good this album is 5 stars A Strong 9 out of 10

Classic greatness

I think I like it better than Thriller. Thriller's highs might be better and the songs might be more iconic but I've always felt that there's a lot of stuff on Thriller I'd be fine with not hearing again like Baby Be Mine, The Girl Is Mine, Human Nature, and The Lady In My Life. Granted, it's been forever since I've listened to Thriller and it's been forever since I've listened to this. Even the songs I haven't heard in forever that I thought I wouldn't like (The Way You Make Me Feel, Liberian Girl, Just Good Friends, Man in the Mirror) were pretty good and I didn't want to skip a track. It's hard to make Michael Jackson appear to be tough and they tried really hard but it was never gonna happen. Still, this album takes me back to a time when I was a kid and a Michael Jackson album release was a huge fucking deal. Maybe the nostalgia here is part of the reason why I like this. I'm gonna give it a 5 because I really enjoyed it but I also don't know when I'll reach for a Michael Jackson album ever again. Looking forward to whenever Thriller pops up to see how it compares.

Stone cold classic!

So, how does an artist follow the biggest selling album of all time? By releasing a Bad one of course. Joking aside, Bad is a fantastic pop album much like Thriller, its 1A and 1B in terms of his best work. If Thriller earned Jackson his King of Pop title, Bad let him continue to sit on his throne.

Lay down the remote and crank this Rollercoaster of hits and fun Bustamove tunes from being to end

Isn't it the legend himself, my fav - Liberian Girl

Yep this is definitely a Michael Jackson album

Lots of hits! Fun album

Heehee

I loved every second of it, bunch of classics, but my fav was Siberian girl

Nothing bad at all to say about this álbum such an amazing one love it

Absolute classic - so many great songs here.

I'm so bad reviewing albums but this one have a essential to make u dance so, it does really good

ABSOLUTEEE 10/10 I LOVE MJ i hope to get more of his albums from this cuz ts is inspiring me to listen to more of him 🥹🙌

Naming your best album bad is a legendary move

yeah he's unmatched.. listening to my moms vinyl 🥹 not that side one isn't but side two is absolutely insane it's just the greatest song ever made after the greatest song ever made after the greatest song ever made. the talking before i just can't stop loving you... michael jackson inventor of boyfriend asmr

Already listened to this album and its great. Great for Michael Jackson is amazing for other artists but is not in the same league as Thriller and Off the Wall.

Hvis man først skal gi 5 på et pop-album, så må det nesten være dette, vel?

Classic

the real king of pop

So many incredible classic songs that are still insanely popular today, I can only imagine home huge this was at the time and I really enjoyed listening to the whole album

Bad??? sounds pretty good to me!! if there are skips, as isolated tracks they're still the funkiest shit since sliced bread. favorite track is probably Smooth Criminal even if it's kind of an ancient fav, but Another Part of Me is the best new one for me

This one hit. I didn't realize he made that "ee-hee" sound as much as he did

Smooth Criminal, Another Part of Me, The Way You Make Me Feel, Bad

King of pop for a reason

What a special talent MJ was. The production is absolutely fantastic. Everything sounds great and that bass is always perfect, "Speed Demon" especially tickles my ear. There's hits upon hits and catchy chorus after catchy chorus. Hard to tell if I like this more than Thriller or Off the Wall though. It's definitely close

King Of Pop... Better than "Thriller" to me

I wish that the general consensus of this album wasn't "It's not Thriller." Like I get it but it's still a solid album in its own right. I felt like Speed Demon,Just Good friends, and Another Part of Me all could've been stronger though... Otherwise all 5/5 songs very memorable and catchy

Great album.

Not that bad

not even his best work!

The most famous example of let’s look over that stuff and just talk about the music. I think for the exercise of the list you do need to make the artist/art separation whether you believe in it or not. Nonce or not, still one of the highest selling albums of all time, and for a reason. This isn’t even THE album and it’s this insane quality. Bad is a fine hit, but the way you make me feel, man in the mirror, goddamn smooth criminal??? 10/10, 9/10, 15/10. Even the non hits are phenomenal, although Liberian girl is not up to the rest of it. But he’s definitely using the same synth that’s in Sonic which I know he worked on Sonic 3 but he’s doing the chemical zone bass synth through so much of this and it’s so SICK. Speed demon and just good friends are basically just Sonic songs (pre Sonic one mind you). Thriller obviously clears, I’m sure we’ll return one day.

Classic and powerful.

It is excellent

How do you review an album like this? Not a lot to say that hasn't already been said. First thing to note is just how stacked the album is. I mean you are looking at like 6 or 7 tracks that could easily be in the 100 greatest pop songs of all time. Sharp drums, punchy bass, hard synths. Its edgy and swaggering whilst still maintaining an unparalleled groove. Vocals do not require any comment, there are very few individuals come close to his tone and delivery. Production is immaculate. Favourite track - Smooth Criminal. 9/10

Och, kolejna kontrowersyjna postać, której nie da się odebrać talentu. Na tej płycie jest tyle hitów. Znam prawie każdy kawałek. Z wieloma mam piękne wspomnienia. No takich płyt nie ma zbyt dużo. Historyczna i przełomowa. 9/10

Yes yes yes ye ye yes yes

Wow this was so good. I didn’t realize how many hits were on the album. Michael Jackson’s voice and range is insane, obviously. All of the songs are really catchy and awesome and unique and I don’t really have any complaints. Fav songs: the way you make me feel, Liberian girl, dirty diana

Well it’s so obvious 5/5 Great “no skip” album Great songwriting and production MJ is GOAT

Smooth Criminal might be the best pop song ever written. Had to listen to it twice before I could move on.

Certified Banger

I'm not sure I've ever actually listened to a full MJ album. This one may be the place to start, I guess, given the half-dozen odd hits here. Aside from those classics, some of the other tracks are decent rather than just filler or skip material--Speed Demon is pretty funky. I'd also never heard the Stevie Wonder duet on "Just Good Friends," which is pretty good, as is "Leave me Alone." I'm actually impressed by the sleeper tracks on this album, which is making me think this might deserve a 5 when coupled with the absolute impact of the hits.

For sure the best album of the 80s... probably the best if not one of the best albums of all time. Despite what he might have done in his personal life it is a 10/5

Lekker album! Het eerste album dat ik mag luisteren is redelijk laagdrempelig, omdat ik geboren ben in de jaren 80 is deze muziek vertrouwd. toch ben ik positiever over het album dan verwacht!

What's not to love about MJ. Weird guy but incredibly creative!

Maybe it was the fact that I watched moonwalker 300 times as a kid, but I LOVE this album.

Sometimes I forget how amazingly talented MJ truly was. "Man in the Mirror" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Tag on songs like "Smooth Criminal", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Bad", "Dirty Diana", etc.. and you have an all-time classic album from arguably the greatest performer in history.

Epic pop album. Probably some of his best.

I mean, it's Michael Jackson's 'Bad', it's practically a greatest hits record during one of this legend's many fine hours. It's no 'Thriller', but I'd rank it on the same level, if not slightly above 'Off The Wall,' for nostalgia reasons alone. I remember having to sing 'Man in the Mirror' in primary school and how obsessed I was with that one song. And honestly, it's a pretty good song all things considered, a little heavy-handed, but the good intentions are clear as day. Some underrated gems here aside from the obvious bangers - 'Speed Demon' for one is relentlessly funky and I love those layers of synths that hang in the background in that second half. 'Another Part of Me', I feel similarly about. I love the way the vocal builds into the chorus and those iconic '80s horn blasts. And 'Dirty Diana' sounds like the 'Beat It' sentimental cousin production-wise, at least. The whole thing with MJ fighting off this temptress, while it does get a chuckle out of me sometimes, was clearly something MJ felt strongly about. But yeah, I'm sorry, the best song here has always been 'Smooth Criminal' for me, I don't care how overplayed and memed it is, the song remains absolutely iconic, one of the greatest in pop history. There's really something about the nature of the writing, it's so ominous, mysterious, but in a way, the music doesn't match that at all...if anything, the whole thing sounds kinda sexy. It always gave off this alluring effect despite the ugly story being told. The king of pop, the-king-of-popping, once more. No one can do music like this guy.

When I see this cover, I have to immediately think of "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Even Worse". While this is certainly funny, it already proves how iconic "Bad" actually is. As Michael Jackson had already been a superstar at that time, it's no surprise that everything about the production is flawless and easily meets also today's standards. And likewise it's no surprise that "Dirty Diana" (with Steve Stevens' incredible guitar work) and "Smooth Criminal" remain the best among the 11 songs on "Bad". Yes, this is one of the most iconic albums of all time!

One of the best, if not the greatest album in history

Fun album. Some songs I thought were older MJ.

Já ouvi

Very good. Classic. He can do better. Still very impressive. Good music good vocal good production. Arrangement is classic but I feel it aging just ok now! A low 5 for me.

It’s a good fucking album. Global and undisputed chart-topping hits. Tight and clean production, killer vibes and vocals. It makes so much sense to me that he was as big as he was. His life is truncated in tragedy but goddamn if that middle portion wasn’t straight fire.

I’ve been going back and forth on how to rate this album and whether or not to give it a four or five. It’s not as prolific as Thriller, but it does have so many iconic songs. It’s not MJ’s best work, but when compared to other albums on the list, it does stand out quite a bit.

The Quicy Jones trilogy are just perfect. There's no much to say about it. The Way You Make Me Feel videoclip must be the one that I watched most when I was a kid. I mean, which girl doesn't want a creepy guy dancing and singing round her while she's trying to get home, right? When Michael first got the lyrics for "Just Good Friends", he came to Stevie and said: "Men, I know that you're blind, but you gotta see this..." Anyway, following the line of the two previous albuns, this is an albuns full of hits, from begining to end. 5 stars of course.

This one’s a classic. Takes me back to primary school!

I didn't realize how much I missed Michael Jackson until today. He was a phenomenon never to be duplicated. How could one album have so many hits? I grew up in the age of MJ and I'll never forget it.

Everyone knows this one! Legendary.

I bloody LOVED this. This is only the second Michael Jackson album I’ve ever heard and while I wouldn’t exactly say I’ve become a fan of his yet, I will be keeping this saved and going back to it. Top Track - Smooth Criminal, a belter of a song. Can’t believe I’d never heard this before considering I do really like the Alien Ant Farm cover version.

A really catchy, funky album. A lot of songs on this album became big hits, and for good reason. It’s an all around great time. Standout Songs: Bad The Way You Make Me Feel Liberian Girl Man in the Mirror I Just Can't Stop Loving You Dirty Diana Smooth Criminal

If it came out tomorrow instead of 87' it would still be mammoth. Nice to listen to some of the less famous tunes. Insane production.

Peak Michael Jackson. Couple of dull songs made up for by multiple greatest hits.

He combination of showmanship in music and vocals is pretty damn special.

Its the king. Brother.... the king. I mean what can I say. Its full of all timers. I see why Sega asked him to do the sonic 3 soundtrack. Half of the bass and drums stuff is in that specific sound font. And that track list rules. Stevie Wonder is here and that song also rocks. The only real criticism I have is im not super keen on some of the slow songs but thats honestly just a personal preference than anything. They are still great songs just they aren't for me really. At the end of the day is micheal and this shit is even better than thriller. Thriller rules but it gets burried by bad here. Hail to the King baby

It turns out that Michael Jackson was, in fact, bad

I dont care for the guy himself, but as a pop artist there are few who can stand in his shadow. This album shows why. You think it cant get any better after Dirty Diana, but Smooth Criminal and Leave Me Alone shortly follow to prove you wrong.
