2.5. Totally just fine but kinda boring.
Second album by T.Rex on this list and once again I'm not sure what is so special about this band. Both albums are quite average with couple songs being entertaining and the rest went totally unnoticed. "Metal Guru" was quite a nice rock song with funny lyrics and catchy riffs. Unfortunately, soon after this song my mind started wandering anywhere else, just to dissociate from this record. Honestly, I felt like it was a waste of time, especially that the full album was very long. I was never a fan of Jurrasic Park.
Not my jam. Ended up feeling bored and the sound got monotonous by the end. Everything felt very repetitive and normally that’s not a problem for me but this one just didn’t juve with me. Dull but otherwise inoffensive.
1972 was a great year for music. This album is not specifically notable to me, but its' influence can be heard throughout the next 50 years of music, especially in English music
Har vært nysgjerrig på T.Rex, så greit å få bekrefta at da ikkje e for meg
This sounds like every rock album ever, and I don't mean that in a good way.
Even with a personal affection towards 60's and 70's psychedelic I find it a bit difficult to see why The Slider is included in the list. Sure the songs are solid, but it's very much style over substance for the most parts. Songs like 'Rock On', 'The Slider', 'Baby Boomerang' and 'Buick Mackane' feel hollow. The second side is stronger with tracks like 'Rabbit Fighter' and 'Ballrooms of Mars' almost dragging this record into three-star territory.
Just sort of happened, nothing grabbed me.
didn't really have time to listen to properly. I listened to few of the first songs but didn't really fancy them
It’s fine, but it just feels like one long song besides a few tracks.
Ganz nett, aber auch nicht mehr..
Liked songs: Ballrooms of Mars Semi-whiny hippie music. Guy on the drum kit can't keep time. Too much grunting from the vocalist. 1.5/5
Expected more hits on this one
Pretty generic glam rock stuff. Not bad in any way, just emotionless and forgettable.
There are some cool songs here and there, but... Pretty basic rock. It's hard to believe that this artist had a huge success in the early 70s, surrounded by all the other rock legends there were at the time. Maybe I don't understand or it was really on show that the magic happened?
It's fun, playful. Something about the songs just sound same-y to me.
I lost interest in this one pretty quickly.
He is not bad, I didn't know this artist but It's not the music I heard.
I don't get it. Seems like generic glam rock. Nothing is bad, nothing really stands out.. I never know how to rate these, because they are immediately removed from my memory within a minute of the album ending. "Metal Guru" was probably my favorite song, "Ballroom of Mars" was oingy-boingy. I don't know what that means either but that's what I wrote down.
I wasn't expecting much and I didn't get much. Bolan was great as a pop star. Any Best Of knock off will serve you far better than his actual album back catalogue. This album plods with some very average musicianship. A drum machine could provide more soul. Ballrooms of Mars raised a little interest - a Division 2 Ziggy. I've given it two stars - one each for the outstanding two singles.

Oof. Sounds like a generic The Who/Led Zeppelin/David Bowie wannabe band that 20 years later grew up to become Guns & Roses. Half of the songs sound not just unpolished, but straight up unfinished. Almost juvenile. Halfway through the A-side I thought maybe the band were doing a parody, halfway through the B-side I was sure of it. But why would they parody Guns & Roses, which never even existed yet? This album's only redeeming features are the two singles, Metal Guru and Telegram Sam. The other songs range from forgettable to outright unpleasant. 2/5
all sounds to me
A bit disappointing overall, I liked Buick Mackane and Telegram Sam, but the rest is a bit flat and repetitive.
Metal guru is pretty good but the glam metal doesn't do much for me. Electric Warrior we did first was better
Always found T. Rex' music uninspiring. I suspect one needs to have lived through the period in order to absorb the alleged "glamour effect" the band's famous for.
It was okay but not my type of music and a little repetitive in spots. Zero recognized songs
“Undoubtedly sounds quite profound to 14-year-old ears.”
Thankfully I was exposed to Led Zeppelin as a child, and not this. I had to drag myself through to the end. Mushy, breathy, monotonous. Didn't add (no kidding).
Last week we got Electric Warrior, now we get its successor The Slider. I can't decide which one I dislike the most.
This is just a boring album. Songs all sound the same and are so simplistic. No good drumming, singing, or guitar play. Kind of disappointing. 4/10.
Pretty good. Ever heard it before.
kinda boring. not bad, but it's not the kind of music i'm interested in.
Exactly how I would expect a T Rex album to sound. Distinctively them, basically fine, but pretty samey. 2.5/5.
It was hard to listen at times.
It was okay. Kinda felt like a bunch of songs full of choruses. Stylistically pretty interesting. Like Bowie but not Bowie and slightly worse and less creative. Didn't blow me away. Average!
2/5 can't really say it thrilled me.
Not for me
Repetitive dross from Bolan. Too much hairspray and glitter fumes must have affected everyone in the seventies for this to be considered anything but music for 8 year olds. What someone thinks good rock sounds like when they have never actually listened to rock. Best Tracks: Metal Guru; Baby Boomerang; Telegram Sam
Absolutamente innecesario.
Glam rock eh? Nah, I'm alright thanks. Maybe next time.
Not sure I need another T-Rex album in my life
Hmm, wanted to like this but just wasn't feeling it! I like tunes like Solid Gold Easy Action but it wasn't on here ☹️ only a 2
meh
Pretty together. Not a lot of ubiquity. All very the same. No bad songs, but nothing stand out.
Reminds me of Alice Cooper
Really didn't do anything for me. I even skipped a few songs.
not sold on their sound and didnt think any of the songs were very good
eh
Started off bopping along to Metal Guru and thinking “yeah, I could really get into this”; four songs later I was still bopping along to Metal Guru thinking “Wow, Metal Guru is a very long and repetitive song.” What I’m saying is this sounded exactly the same all the way through - just as those critics of Southgate’s so-called conservative tactics sounded the same all the way through Euro 2020, even as England rolled on to the final, and ended up just a matter of inches away from winning the thing on penalties.
eh, wasn't that bad just didn't stand out to me at all
Normally I love t rex, but this is just not the best album I've heard from them. All the songs sound like "Life's a Gas" I honestly thought I'd like it more. I don't sense a lot of emotion or authenticity here. I guess I compare this to the electric warrior sessions and get disappointed. By 1972, this sound would have been dated. I don't understand this one.
All sounds the same. Just can’t get into them.
Less fun than I thought it would be. Fun Fact: Robert Plant's favourite tracks off this are Baby Boomerang and Baby Strange. I think we know why.
eh
Ekasta raidasta vahvat Hanoi Rocks -vibat ja hyvää menoa. Jotenkin tasapaksuksi tykittelyksi jää kuitenkin loppu kokonaisuus.
Tää oli vähän tällainen köyhän miehen David Bowie. Mars-aihettakin löytyi levyltä ja pikagooglauksen perusteella Bowien Ziggy Stardust -levy julkaistiin reilua kuukautta ennen tätä. Selkeästi ollut avaruushommat tapetilla kuulaskeutumisen jäljiltä!
I have never listened to a T.Rex Album in full. Find it a bit ploddy. Not enough hooks and missing any of the hits. 2/5 as you can hear riffs that bands since have ripped off. But massively disappointing.
70's glam rock that isn't really for me. Some parts sounded vaguely familiar or reminiscent of other things, but mostly just weird.
“The Slider” by T. Rex (1972) Here is an album produced to please without requiring much of the listener. Sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered. Lyrically, we have common words and phrases nonchalantly sprinkled over melodies and rhythms as a sort of artless garnish. There’s no meaning here, no passion—nothing to think about (exception: “Ballrooms of Mars”. But don’t waste your time. It’s no big deal). The words are simply a delivery vehicle for the sound. And the sound is undoubtedly pleasing. Simple backing vocals and easy orchestral arrangements provide a comfortable texture. An occasional unexpected chord progression and time signature variation provide spice, but nothing that shocks the senses. It amounts to ‘easy listening’ pop/rock. Lead guitar riffs and solos are rather uninspired, but are well supported by a disciplined rhythm section. Lead vocal is interesting. Marc Nolan’s airy tenor completely lacks timbre or any sonorous quality, but he raises these weaknesses to an art form. Frequent mic pops reveal a voice with virtually no natural power. Seemingly obligatory ‘screams’ and ‘wails’ are laughably puny. Backing arrangements seem designed to compensate for this huge flaw. But it’s still entertaining, albeit with an occasional chuckle. Certainly not ‘bad’—almost ‘good’. Definitely not ‘very good’. I’m so torn. 2/5
This album seemed longer than it actually was.
I'm done with glam rock
Mnja
I appreciate the album and the group for its role in 70s glam. It is not my type of rock, not as fast tempo as the songs I like most. Also, the album loses its flow half way despite starting strong. I loved telegram sam and a few riffs along with the string orchestration on a few tracks which was brilliant. Good album, but not exactly my taste.
Didn’t really stand out to me
this band.....what exactly did i listen to? i mean, the music is good, lyrics are kinda whatever, it just sounds so generic. honestly, i don't have a favorite song, and yeah, this album did NOT sell me on this band.
Ok
Somewhat negative reaction. I don't really like his voice and don't feel like the songs are particularly catchy, despite some interesting backing.
Not very good
Not bad but not great I guess. Distracted listening while work again. Maybe 1-2 songs.
2.5
Grungy
boring.
Never really cared for this.
I don’t like 70s rock, but spaceball ricochet was pretty good
not good and not memorable at all
pass
Left me like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1Xd30B0f5A
Meh, guy didn’t do enough drugs to make a better album.
I think the world is far too kind to Bowie and the type of trash he brought into the world of music
Already the band's second album on this list, which adds up to two too many.
Not a T rex fan at all, worked in a pub where they had a tribute night once a year, still scared from it
Nah
i can't for the life of me understand why anyone enjoys glam rock. lord knows i've tried, but this is just the most bland, uninspiring collection of average 70s glam rock songs about nothing. it's all so one-note. safe and dull, with nothing groundbreaking or even remotely substantial here. for this particular album, i saw the opener, metal guru, and thought FINALLY, something different from the norm. i listened to it and thought, well, that was definition of the norm, but hopefully it gets better from here. ladies and gentlemen, i regret to inform you that it, in fact, did not get better from there. 1.5 stars because at least it's not kid rock.
Nah
I’ve started to notice that I’m repeating myself on my site. I keep saying that I don’t really like rock, that it’s not my favorite genre, and I end up making the same point over and over again. And lately I’ve been coming to an uncomfortable realization: the 1001 Albums list is largely dominated by music made by men, for men, and above all by men. But I’m getting frustrated and going off on tangents, and that’s not what I’m here to talk about. Let’s talk about the album: The Slider by T. Rex. I struggled with this one. It started strong, and the first few tracks genuinely caught my attention. But after the third song, the album began to lose momentum for me. It felt like a gradual descent into something increasingly exhausting. By the time I reached the last track, my reaction was simply: okay, that was an experience I don’t need to repeat. Again, this is just my personal perception. It says nothing about the band’s artistic value or their place in music history. But I know I won’t listen to this album again. I’m torn between giving it two stars, maybe even one. I don’t think I’ll go as low as one, because there are moments here that are undeniably beautiful. But overall… it just didn’t work for me.
I've seen the list of the 1001 albums, and I know there are some great ones coming, but I am struggling thru these at the moment. This was another awful choice, and I don't hate music from this era. It was just bad.
Definitely could´ve died without hearing this album.
Bit dull after Metal Guru.
This glam rock album is like a glitter-covered peacock preening under a spotlight—full of fuzzy riffs, swaggering grooves, and flirtatious vocals that shimmer with mystique semanticly while winking at their own over-the-top absurdity.
This I think will be my first 1/5 rating, as I'm only 12 albums in. I probably have heard a few T. Rex songs on the classic rock station, but I really dislike classic rock, and apparently I really don't like glam rock also, as I found this very grating. This was the first time I actually starting skipping songs as I went as I couldn't stand them anymore.
I haaaaate this. "Buick Mackane" and "Chariot Choogle" are the only decent tracks. I kept listening for music education value but I couldn't wait for it to end. Very surprised by the positive reception here because I found this to be boring and irritating.
2/10 Maybe I just don’t “get it” but I did not enjoy this album. It felt extremely dated on top of being extremely repetitive. Only a couple of songs that stood out among the rest. A bit of a slog to get through this whole album
Glam Rock is objectively the worst rock
Garnicht meins. Also einfach zu simple und habe keine lust mehr nach song 3
Absolute snooze fest, not sure how T. rex has 3.5 million monthly listeners on spotify
I went to the Spotify link and noticed that the whole album was blacked out so I went to YouTube to listen. If it weren't for the commercials on YT I would not have known where one song ended and the next began because they all sound the exact same. Same notes, same cadence, same vocals. I went back to the Spotify to see what songs of T Rex were available, none of them were, but then I remembered T Rex is the only band on Spotify that I blocked from playing so that this crap doesn't pop up when I want to listen to 70s rock. 2.4/10 88/1001
Was never a fan of glam rock and this album does nothing to change that. I'll admit, because this album is so clunky & whiny I could not even finish it. This is a turd.
Kinda one note sounding for me. Glam and swagger and esoteric lyrics with at times catchy choruses Maybe it was a time and place thing for this album but not for me
This sounded like all the same song and it id also the same song that has been on this list several times
I'm more of a Triceratops kinda guy.
Wack.
Fully meh. I just didn't like it. Nothing on this album stood out. I thought it was really boring, and nothing had the glitz of glam rock.

Great
My #1 don't understand the hype band. At best they're just an incredibly bland Led Zeppelin rip off, at worst a cloying copy of Bowie's worst albums or a skin tight pleather CCR. The bass parts are pretty cool at least. The most overrated band of the 70s.
T. Rex is one of those bands that I just don't get what the hype is about. They have a couple of songs that I like, moderately, but other than that they are just a damn mess. This album did absolutely nothing for me.
Trop rugueux !
Another overrated artist, awful.
Not for me
Uhh, sure. Fav Track: The Slider
No thanks
bro i almost fell asleep driving and not in a good way
I so hope this is the last T. Rex album I ever have to listen to. They just suck so bad.
“Baby, baby, baby, baybeeeeehhh” 🤮 T-Rex reminds me of a boring Guns N Roses but without the catchy riffs. Did not like. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Telegraph Sam Rating: 1
Lacks variety in sound, leaving my ears unmotivated to hear most tracks in their entirety. Not for me.
Unfortunately, this recording was definitely not my thing. It just did not connect with me. I did not hear anything out of the ordinary that, to me, would justify this album or this artist as "must hear".
Not bad but generic for me
infuriatingly repetitive and repetitively infuriating. boring Significant 30/93 Liked 14/93 Added 4/93 NNN
these guys suck
1972. Not great. Generic guitar solos and would've been better as an instrumental. I was leaning towards 2/5 until the dreadful last song.
Wut
It feels like the band relied heavily on the formula that worked for them. Pity. Skip this album and listen to Electric Warrior instead, a much better album. Overall: 2/10
I thought I liked T. Rex, but this album really bugged me. I can't put my finger on exactly why; perhaps a bit repetitive, and the vocals a bit whiney for my taste? All I know is that I was happy when it finished.
Musically repetitive, especially the use of echo in the lead singers voice.
It’s just not something I like very much.
Automatic shoes Automatic shoes Give me three D vision And the California blues Me I funk but I don't care I ain't no square with my corkscrew hair The 70s were a weird decade and this was a fine example. I like weird, but the trouble here is that the album kind of sucks. 1/5
aburrido
I don't get it. I don't think I'm a fan of this genre of music.
Genuinely unpleasant to listen to. The songs on their own aren’t very good, add the awful vocals and it’s one of the worst albums I’ve listened to lately.
Another aggressively mid album. Doesn't really belong on this list because there is absolutely nothing special about it. There were people doing this in the 60s more creatively than this.
Painfully repetitive.
Too repetitive
Bad
I'm not a glamrock fan.
Никогда не любил глэм. Это ж какое-то позёрство типа эмо в наше время
All the elements for “Bang a Gong” were there, they just couldn’t pull it together.
Not doing it for me. It’s just so same same in regards to the sound and genre of so many other albums from this time period. There is nothing here to distinguish itself from anything else I’m afraid. 1 Star!
Méh
Best aardig!
