So fun, was a little apprehensive of this sounding classic rock-samey but had some really cool energy that brings it up
Not bad, though really not good. Seemed lacking to me, though I did at least listen to the whole album. (not a remark on THIS album, but my selected albums have really sucked lately. Due to this, I am being generous on my score here) C-
Second T. Rex album for me so far. While no song reaches the heights of Jailbreak, this album as a whole is more sonorous and listenable than Electric Warrior. There's a refinement to them that may be less experimental, but more polished. They are a solid 4/5 band!

Somewhat singular in its sound, but there's no denying that there are some catchy songs here. For me, standouts include Mystic Lady and The Slider.
A bit disappointing overall, I liked Buick Mackane and Telegram Sam, but the rest is a bit flat and repetitive.
3/5. Solid, but unspectacular. Preferred it to the last couple of albums, but not by a huge margin. I really liked the opener, but it's all a little bland afterwards. Not awful, but not one that I'll listen to again. Sneaks into the 3 category as it all fits well together as an album.
Metal guru is pretty good but the glam metal doesn't do much for me. Electric Warrior we did first was better
Always found T. Rex' music uninspiring. I suspect one needs to have lived through the period in order to absorb the alleged "glamour effect" the band's famous for.
I found this album actually pretty difficult to rate— like a lot of reviewers here, I noticed a lot of repetition, but something about these tracks hold a unique charm that surpasses the technical “good” of each track. I really enjoyed this album. There’s a certain sexiness, replay-value, catchiness, that I really quite like. It’s grungy, glamorous, and a lot of fun. It’s hard to believe this album is pushing 50 years old, it really has a lot of modern feel and value. Lyrically it is average with some catchy hooks, but again something about this album keeps me coming back, its compelling. 4/5

I only knew T.Rex by name, never listened to it before. With that being said, I felt completely in love this album! Every track is great! Doing some research I found that T.Rex was a seminal band that had influence on a lot of other musicians. I think this album had a lot of influence on Bowie. Ballrooms Of Mars, for example, reminded me A LOT of the Ziggy Stardust era. Favorite tracks: * Buick Mackane * Metal Guru * Ballrooms Of Mars
I remember listening to Telegram Sam in a booth at the local record store. Odd really as I was always going to buy the record. So there was much anticipation of this album a few months later. Bought on the day of release and listened to over and over. It was great, couldn't be anything else. Now decades later listening to the whole album in one session it doesn't have the same resonance. The singles and a few other tracks, title song included are still great. What I did pick up are traces of the pre Electric Warrior band in some of the songs, Chariot Choogle, Spaceball Ricochet. The production certainly added polish. While it may no longer be a regular listen it is good to reminisce and the lyrics are still playful and silly plus there is some chunky guitar work.

It's hard to believe this is from 1972. It sounds very modern. It's also hard to believe I've never heard this before.
Thankfully I was exposed to Led Zeppelin as a child, and not this. I had to drag myself through to the end. Mushy, breathy, monotonous. Didn't add (no kidding).
In my mind The Slider was always a little bit weaker than Electric Warrior, but after listening to both albums I think they are equally good. Perhaps you need to know the Tyrannosaurus Rex albums or the first T.Rex album (which is also great) in order to realize this: but they are both *universally* good (not just within their own genre).
Last week we got Electric Warrior, now we get its successor The Slider. I can't decide which one I dislike the most.

T Rex is consistently good throughout Bolan's all too brief career. This is easily my second favorite T Rex album, just a smidgen behind "Electric Warrior." Every song is so enjoyable and they all mesh well together. He makes rock and roll sound so fun and inviting. Doesn't take itself too seriously but at the same time feels very genuine and heartfelt. Lighthearted perhaps, but by no means "lightweight." The songs still manage to resonate emotionally without getting too down or sorry for themselves; something people tend to equate with "serious" music. "The Slider," by contrast, is a nimble celebration of life and is a joy to listen to in that regard. I think it's an absolutely valid take, which is often overlooked artistically for some reason. I guess most people, or perhaps critics, would rather stew in their own heartache and misery? Not me, give me T Rex any day.
Idk but I enjoyed this a little more than Electric Warrior, could just have been my mood. Not every track is a straight A but between the two I think at least one of these albums deserves a 4.
I always preferred Tyrannosaurus Rex and the early T.Rex albums. The Slider is the last great (even the last good) album Bolan made, there was a lot of filler in the subsequent albums. There are signs of the decline in The Slider, but he manages to avoid them for one last time.
This is just a boring album. Songs all sound the same and are so simplistic. No good drumming, singing, or guitar play. Kind of disappointing. 4/10.
The Slider features the icon cover photo taken by (supposedly?) Ringo Starr, is the follow-up album to T-Rex's classic, Electric Warrior. Musically, this feels like a sequel, with a similar sound to Warrior. The songs are accessible and enjoyable, but a feel it's a slight step back quality-wise. Still a great album, well worth seeking out! It's funny, I had this on the turntable last week, so it was fresh on my mind.
This is a fun record. I really liked it. Another one I've never listened to. The crunchy guitars are cool. The vocals are unique but still listenable and well-arranged (backup harmonies are cool). It's like a really weird record that uses elements of music that are very "normal." And, this was released in 1972. Must have been pretty innovative for the time. And, an influence on Bowie, for sure. Right? I really like the mellotron in "Mystic Lady." It reminds me of the mellotron/synth pads in "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans" by Smashing Pumpkins. Real cool.
So, I may have biased myself by digging too far into the liner notes for this one. I noticed that Ringo Starr was credited with the cover art, then learned that he took the photos as part of a documentary he was filming about a poolside concert that John Lennon was throwing at his house featuring, among other bands, T-Rex. This is a great album even if I hadn't known any of that. But, knowing that, it's easy to picture them playing for the Beatles. This definitely sounds like a band they would dig. They're clearly influenced by the Beatles, but also unique and talented in their own right. It actually sounds like an album that the Beatles would have put out had they still been together at the time. The guitar tones, harmonies, and even the lyrics are familiar in that sense - but they also built on it and made it their own. I could go 5 on this, but I'm acknowledging my own bias. I may regret it later, but - high 4.
Glam rock has never really been my thing, but I did enjoy this. Certain slower parts felt very Velvet Underground. There are some serious grooves on this. Favorite tracks: "Chariot Choogle", "Telegram Sam", "Baby Boomerang"

This one is wildly unspectacular and I have no idea what merits its inclusion on this list. It's just unobtrusive, radio-friendly rock that goes in one ear and out the other without leaving much of an impression. But it's better than most of what I've had to listen to from this list for the past week.
Starting with "Metal Guru" there's an element of rockabilly in how the rhythm takes one back to maybe a diner in the 50s as it would fit rather nicely. That's about where the novelty ends though, but not so much in a negative sense. "Metal Guru" may be one of the most successful Track 1s in recent memory where the tone for the rest of the album is appropriately set. Expectations are set with the least amount of disappointment. Even where elements start to shine as in the title track "The Slider" with small bits of strings, the album throws in enough variety for this to be very enjoyable. Vocally, they meld well with the musical composition in a way that neither are fighting each other, it works and it is done well. Overall, this is a great listen and would positively recommend any listener to experience it for themselves.

I had only ever listened to bang a gong by this band before this album, but I liked this album. It was just a solid glam rock album, not much else to say. Fav: rock on

Fun stuff, especially the back half, but it works better as individual songs rather than a full album. Nothing draws me back enough to listen again start to finish.
As they go more glam, I lose interest. Still enjoyable, but lacking in the stuff I liked from the previous record.
Always partial to a bit of Glam Rock, and there's no better place to go than T Rex when you need to scratch that itch

I've always enjoyed T. Rex, but have never delved too deeply beyond the hits. I had no idea they released so many albums, looking at their discography on Wikipedia I'm shocked. I just assumed they were one of those 2 or 3 albums released followed by tragedy of Marc Bolan's death. I really need to delve deeper into their catalog now. 4 stars.

I enjoyed this album. Had never heard any of it before. Can really hear the David Bowie/Mott the Hoople style experimentation of the early 70s rock. You can see why this music was cited as an influence for such a wide array of bands and musical styles. Favorite songs for me were Rock on and Baby Boomerang.
3.7 - solid album that I really enjoyed. Nice guitar riffs and vocals from a n artist that screamed fun. Baby Boomerang and Spaceball Ricochet were two stand out tracks.

2/5 can't really say it thrilled me.
This might be the hardest album I have had to give a score so far. I enjoyed it mainly for the clean production, solid guitar work, and consistent vibe throughout the whole record. This is another set of great background music which is not necessarily a bad thing; however, I didn't feel that there were any standout tracks or moments which makes it a little harder to judge. I would guess that it would be a grower upon multiple listens, but I am not sure if there was enough for me to give it my full attention in the future (although I definitely wouldn't be opposed to listening to it again in the right setting). 3/5. NOTE: I was a couple of songs in when I randomly thought "This sounds similar to the Bang a Gong song", and it turns out that song is also by T. Rex! Not my favorite song, but I think it's funny that with all of the songs I have heard over my lifetime that I was able to make that connection.
It's ok I guess. Wouldn't turn it off if I heard it again but probably won't go seeking it out either. Every song on this album was about a 3.5 or so.

Repetitive dross from Bolan. Too much hairspray and glitter fumes must have affected everyone in the seventies for this to be considered anything but music for 8 year olds. I never saw the appeal of T.Rex but I didn’t mind this. Some decent guitar and maybe his voice isn’t as whiny as and over effected as later songs? Interesting to read that they were doing folk songs a couple of years previously.

Absolutamente innecesario. Ni siquiera siento que tenga mucho que decir. El disco se me hace muy bueno en un vacío pero Electric Warrior aparte de llevárselo de calle ya salió en la lista. Suena tremendamente igual pero un poco más flojo y repetitivo. Siento que está en la lista por capricho de algún editor. Musicalmente muy agradable, pero no tendría muchas razones de recomendarlo y dejar que ocupe un lugar en esta lista.
El inicio me recordó a Mika. No sé si sea influencia directa pero suenan muy parecidos. Entre pop y glam, es suavecito y fácil de escuchar. Melodías pegajosas y una voz dulce lo hacen muy disfrutable. Me gustó más de lo que esperaba. Las mejores son Metal Guru y Baby Boomerang.
Este disco es un claro ejemplo de lo que me pasó con T. Rex y que seguro le pasó al público en general: parece una mala copia del disco anterior. Así como el Electric Warrior es un discazo y tiene muchas cosas imperdibles, este disco es un refrito de las mismas ideas, quizá con un par de momentos adicionales de guitarra o coros, pero en general olvidable (y por lo tanto cuestionable para la lista). Creo que el colmo es la canción en la que usa su nombre una y otra vez, aunque es posible que sea parte de la versión extendida que me apareció.
The Glitter Pixie at his best here. His transformation from Mod to Glitter King (Via Hippydom) was almost complete here. Lovely album stand outs of course are "Metal Guru" & "Telegram Sam" Definitely worth a listen if you have never heard of Marc Feld!

I'm not a glamrock fan.
I really liked this album, definitely reminds me of Bob Dylan but leaning a little more into the rock side of things rather than the folk side. I'm also hearing some early 60s rock influence like The Beatles and The Who. All around I really enjoy T. Rex's sound. 7/10

That's more like it. T Rex at the height of their powers are like a force of nature. And this is about as it gets. It's got two huge hit singles, "Metal Guru" and "Telegram Sam", which means this was released at about the time I first discovered the band. I don't listen to enough T Rex. I'll put that right today.
Cool album. Simple blues based rock. Lacks a wow factor but not bad.
Quite beautiful and romantic, while defining the gram rock genre definitively.

This is such a fun album, a favorite from one of my favorite bands. The Slider probably is the quintessential expression of Marc Bolan's vision as an artist. This is his moment musically, and he would never quite capture it again. The sound of the album is distinctive, full of great, glammy, hooky songs. It’s good old fashioned sexpot rock and roll embellished with the loveliest string arrangements and some killer guitars. T. Rex has a true pop sensibility while also being unabashedly strange, building on Bolan's origins in psychedelic music. The band moves effortlessly from ethereal to full on rocker mode. They've got songs that pull at your heartstrings and songs you want to crank the volume on and just rock out to. You can hear all the little tendrils that grew out of this music and ended up seeding everything that came after it for many years, from heavy metal to post punk and indie. As a front man, Bolan is confident, puckish and sexy, but he’s also unafraid to show his vulnerability. His vocal delivery is all at once quirky, heartfelt and expressive. The lyrics run the gambit from fanciful to achingly sad and are best enjoyed if you don't over analyze them. Fave Songs: Main Man, Telegram Sam, Ballrooms of Mars, Rabbit Fighter, Buick McCane

I was frantically cooking Indian food while listening to this so it didn’t get my best attention, but I thought it was fun if slightly cheesy. 7/10

T. Rex is a band that I absolutely love, and yet always get the impression that I probably don't appreciate them as much as I should. This album lacked any of the "hits" I was already familiar with, but every single track was a joy.
I find this album a bit tough to rate. I liked it okay, but no part of it really stood out to me. I could certainly see how it would be significant for the time, but it doesn't sound particularly fresh or distinctive listening to it now. I want to give it a 4, but ultimately I feel like this album is sorta average for this list 3/5

It almost feels lazy to see the same thing happen on each track from The Slider. Bolan takes the title of the track, repeats that a couple of times each chorus, changes the tempo a bit and sings in the exact same key for a couple of minutes. Its decent, but way too repetitive. 3/5.
Oh this is good! Solid rock without having to try too hard. Fun listen. Not really any misses and songs don't drag on. The whole album together gets a but similar but not enough to drag it down.

My existing opinion of T.Rex was that they were a Rolling Stones clone. I hate The Rolling Stones. Nothing about this album has changed my opinion. It’s capital-F Fine. Easy to ignore, inoffensive, but not terribly original or interesting. The Rolling Clones.
I enjoyed this way more than I expected. Double-track vocaling, reverb drums, acoustic-fuzz guitar combos, all must have been a novelty at the time. Great songwriting. Great stuff.

Started off bopping along to Metal Guru and thinking “yeah, I could really get into this”; four songs later I was still bopping along to Metal Guru thinking “Wow, Metal Guru is a very long and repetitive song.” What I’m saying is this sounded exactly the same all the way through - just as those critics of Southgate’s so-called conservative tactics sounded the same all the way through Euro 2020, even as England rolled on to the final, and ended up just a matter of inches away from winning the thing on penalties.

Mysticism and pop can be a perfectly fine combination. Sometimes a perfect one. But it can quickly turn turgid if the artist gets dumb about transcendence being antithetical to pop. Suddenly, they think tempo, vibrancy, structure and precision are the enemy. Weird, huh? I mean, two years previous to The Slider, Moondance proved for a whole album that there's little more spiritually elevating than perfect songform. Not that Bolan doesn't get it right some of the time here. Metal Guru and Telegram Sam for example. Some more than fleeting moments elsewhere. But then he reveals himself as the easily distracted type, quick to get his head turned by all the 60s psychedelia signified by that silly hat. If he was alive today, he'd be a shortsighted England fan, riding the wave of the Euros success one second, crying for change (probably in the shape of Jude Belligham or Jack Grealish) the next. Haranguing Southgate, the pop maestro, for exercising too much control, for trying to be too perfect, for not *letting loose*. Taking risks. Running free. All of which must leave Southgate, folder brimming with meticulously orchestrated scores tucked under his arm, utterly perplexed.
Nothing *too* too special but surprisingly decent for 70s rock. None of the songs seem to be really about anything but that's ok in my book :)

It's okay. Kind of boring, generic sounding. I'm sure it wasn't at the time, but now a days this is a dime a dozen to me.
Normally I love t rex, but this is just not the best album I've heard from them. All the songs sound like "Life's a Gas" I honestly thought I'd like it more. I don't sense a lot of emotion or authenticity here. I guess I compare this to the electric warrior sessions and get disappointed. By 1972, this sound would have been dated. I don't understand this one.

Not doing it for me. It’s just so same same in regards to the sound and genre of so many other albums from this time period. There is nothing here to distinguish itself from anything else I’m afraid. 1 Star!

Songwriting doesn't do much for me. It's well produced and executed for what it's worth, I like the fuzzy guitars and there's a great confident vibe from the vocalist that effectively makes these songs better than what they are: shallow and lame. I throw it a 3 for goodwill, but I only thought it was alright.
At first this album didn’t do much for me but there were some songs that I did like quite a bit. Still, I found much of this album fairly boring. It’s not bad by any means but it just seemed like a fairly normal rock album. Favorite songs: Metal Guru, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, Rabbit Fighter Least Favorite Songs: The Slider, Ballrooms of Mars Strong 6/10
Less fun than I thought it would be. Fun Fact: Robert Plant's favourite tracks off this are Baby Boomerang and Baby Strange. I think we know why.
I'm pretty sure T.Rex would have been long forgotten if Marc Bolan had lived to an old age rather than going out young wrapped around a tree. This album is fine, no more, no less.

Tää oli vähän tällainen köyhän miehen David Bowie. Mars-aihettakin löytyi levyltä ja pikagooglauksen perusteella Bowien Ziggy Stardust -levy julkaistiin reilua kuukautta ennen tätä. Selkeästi ollut avaruushommat tapetilla kuulaskeutumisen jäljiltä!

I have never listened to a T.Rex Album in full. Find it a bit ploddy. Not enough hooks and missing any of the hits. 2/5 as you can hear riffs that bands since have ripped off. But massively disappointing.

4.7 - Have loved Cosmic Warrior since I first heard it and love this one maybe even more. Wonderful glam rock, which I love, without the more do-woppy elements of CW that I don't prefer. On initial listen, I'm hearing no weak moments. Just an upbeat, fun and stylish record from beginning to end. Lush orchestrations, shimmery guitar, solid fills and solos, sexy sneering attitude.
Coming right on the heels of Electric Warrior, this sounds like it could be part of the same album, though overall, the supporting songs aren't as strong. It would have been nice to be a UK resident in 72, when Telegram Slam & Metal Guru both hit #1 on the pop charts! I will never tire of listening to the title track.
70's glam rock that isn't really for me. Some parts sounded vaguely familiar or reminiscent of other things, but mostly just weird.
“The Slider” by T. Rex (1972) Here is an album produced to please without requiring much of the listener. Sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered. Lyrically, we have common words and phrases nonchalantly sprinkled over melodies and rhythms as a sort of artless garnish. There’s no meaning here, no passion—nothing to think about (exception: “Ballrooms of Mars”. But don’t waste your time. It’s no big deal). The words are simply a delivery vehicle for the sound. And the sound is undoubtedly pleasing. Simple backing vocals and easy orchestral arrangements provide a comfortable texture. An occasional unexpected chord progression and time signature variation provide spice, but nothing that shocks the senses. It amounts to ‘easy listening’ pop/rock. Lead guitar riffs and solos are rather uninspired, but are well supported by a disciplined rhythm section. Lead vocal is interesting. Marc Nolan’s airy tenor completely lacks timbre or any sonorous quality, but he raises these weaknesses to an art form. Frequent mic pops reveal a voice with virtually no natural power. Seemingly obligatory ‘screams’ and ‘wails’ are laughably puny. Backing arrangements seem designed to compensate for this huge flaw. But it’s still entertaining, albeit with an occasional chuckle. Certainly not ‘bad’—almost ‘good’. Definitely not ‘very good’. I’m so torn. 2/5
Big and up front 70s rock and roll sound. Feels like a fun album, definitely in the boat rock glam feel of things. Spaceball Ricochet is very David Bowie like. Yea this is peak boat rock

Always here about t-rex in reference to Bowie. I can see why. Feels very fresh from track one. Real classics jump right out at you, and this one does. I have yet to know a song, but they all feel familiar. It's very obvious how this influenced decades of pop and rock.

I'm not a fan of Glam rock, although the album had a couple of songs I liked, but kudos for what they did to advance the genre
Glam Rock puro. No hay ninguna canción de este disco entre las 10 más oídas de T.Rex. Telegram Sam que fue single está bien y también me han gustado Buick Mackane y Chariot Choogle. Además se puede disfrutar del Ballroom of Mars que versionaron más o menos aquí como el Divina Estás de Radio Futura. Interesante disco que para mí va de menos a más, así que escúchalo entero.
I appreciate the album and the group for its role in 70s glam. It is not my type of rock, not as fast tempo as the songs I like most. Also, the album loses its flow half way despite starting strong. I loved telegram sam and a few riffs along with the string orchestration on a few tracks which was brilliant. Good album, but not exactly my taste.

T. Rex, fronted by Marc Bolan, was one of the most popular bands in the UK in the 60s and early 70s. They are seen as one of the pioneers of the glam rock scene. This is a great record. Nothing really stuck out as incredible, but everything is pretty solid. Satellite Sam is pretty cool
this band.....what exactly did i listen to? i mean, the music is good, lyrics are kinda whatever, it just sounds so generic. honestly, i don't have a favorite song, and yeah, this album did NOT sell me on this band.
Totally surprising. I thought it was going to be dumb Bang A Gong, but it was actually a pretty cool Bowie variant. Enjoyed.
Not a fan. Didn’t really get what he was going for. The genre itself sounded like The Beatles’ classmates who got jealous and decided to do LSD too and see what happened. Heard some doowop elements too but just couldn’t glom onto it.

Ensimmäinen biisi toi positiiviset mielleyhtymät Smithsin Panic:iin, ja samalla nosti odotukset loppulevystä taivaisiin. Vähän tämä kuitenkin lässähti ekan biisin jälkeen. Ihan mukavaa perusrockia mutta ei tähän tule enää palattua uudestaan.

Grungy
I really enjoy T. Rex. The songs are uplifting, fun to sing along with and have a nice atmosphere. However, I am discovering that listening to a whole album of it is a little excruciating. A song here and there on the radio is great, a couple of songs in succession is also great. This though, I was impatient for it to end so I could go and listen to something that didn't sound exactly like all of T.Rex songs.
I think I like T.Rex after their second listen from albums on this list/generator. Good glam rock, upbeat and fun.

"Metal Guru" is an entertaining upbeat first track. Overall feel very mellow with hints of T. REX's psychedelic rock past. Reminds me some other 60's psychedelic rock group, but remember which now.

I don't care if this was the inspiration for every hair metal band ever, it's just overhyped 70s rock. It's not awful, some of it actually kinda pumps, but I definitely don't care enough to ever listen again. 3/5.
