Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Love the hard sabbath-style rock, but the slapback effect on the drums gets very old. Hadn’t heard a single track on this album before somehow. Baby Strange was the standout for me.

T. Rex is better than I would have thought, always heard it is 'glamrock' and so thought would be bit boring (-: Music reminds me Bowie also some Suede songs. Best I liked was the weird backing vocals, really fascinating. Still my mind kept wandering after few songs, so 3 stars it is.

some were good, some were very annoying

1/11/24. Fun album! Lays a lot of the foundation for glam and stadium rock that other bands used.

Solid, some good riffs. First one on list I had not heard before.

It doesn't have a stand-out banger like "20th Century Boy," but this is still a solid glam rock offering. 3.5 stars.

I was kind of hoping for something a little heavier, I guess. Was kind of a let down for me.

Easy going, garage rock with a hint of aggression. Combines a multitude of sounds; Beach Boys, Beatles, Bowie. Lyrics are kind of bland and/or meaningless. Overall it was fine. It wasn't bad, but neither was it very special. If this is playing I won't complain, but I also won't seek it out. Favorites: Metal Guru Least Favorites: Spaceball Ricochet,

I’m not quite as enamored of this album of other reviewers seem to be, but i do enjoy Marc Bolan’s slinky vocals and twisty wordplay. It’s interesting to wonder what he might have accomplished were it not for his untimely death.

Sunny, laid-back and fully fuzz-drenched. You can tell from the melodies and the simple lyrics than Marc Bolan started as a folk songwriter. I'll be honest in that some of the refrains repeat a bit too much for my taste ("Metal Guru", I'm looking at you) but there's a bluesy bounce and a modern production style that make this album timeless. It mostly doesn't land for me ("mid", as the kids would say) but I think that's a me problem. Everyone should check this out -- it'll probably suit most listeners very well.

Two songs - 'Metal Guru' and 'Telegram Sam' - are quintessential glam rock. Rather than the yob stomp of Slade or the teddy boy revivalism of Mud, T.Rex's particular flavour was more rooted in the faerie folk and lilting, lyrical impressionism of their acoustic past, buoyed by the ethereal backing vocals of Flo and Eddie. Genuinely, the two chart smashes aside, the rest is filler. The half-decent filler tends to be the more raucous stuff - 'Rock On' and 'Buick Mackane' existing at the more palatable end of the spectrum. I'm afraid when the acoustic guitars come out - 'Ballrooms of Mars', anyone? - it all gets a bit embarrassing. Is Bolan's voice a bit of an acquired taste? It's certainly idiosyncratic. Also, there are more strings in the arrangements than I had expected. Three stars. 'Chariot Choogle' is an awful song title, and better in execution than the name suggests. 'Main Man', by the same token, is worse.

Really solid from start to finish.

En stadig trea.

An underrated band, and a good album.

A couple of classic tunes here !

Not that into it

Simply put, I do not like the singers voice and so I could not enjoy this album. The instrumentation was great but unfortunately that doesn't matter in the end.

California Stars Way over Yonder in the Minor Key

mid :/

it was fun! i did notice that his lyrics kind of followed the same pattern aka saying the name of the song over and over for the chorus

More showy than t Rex's other record in here, bit also a little more bland. I feel the pop sensibilities of Marc Bolan are still here, but you have to look a little harder to find them.

Let me clarify that what I'm about to say isn't a bad thing. Technically this could be considered a good thing. To me, this sounds like Ziggy Stardust without all of the personality of Bowie's character or the conceptual aspects of the albums. This album sonically is still good. It has the flair of glam rock with a hint of theatrics in it's execution, but it also feels like it is still latching onto the sound of the late 60's and early 70's, where guitars got more distorted and drums got heavier. Marc's vocals really do remind me a lot of David Bowie. I believe there might be some sort of character that he is trying to play, but I didn't really pick up on anything. Again, it is why I say there is definitely some Bowie inspiration here. I mean granted, this only came out like a month after Ziggy Stardust. Rating: 6/10

Mystical dad rock

It was okay, but nothing really stood our to me.

A good album! Likely not meant to be listened to in one go, but in chunks it is a solid collection of songs

# 90 : This is ok, Better than average, but not great. Favourite Track : Telegram Sam Listened : 18/10/2023

While I came to Telegram Sam through Bauhuas, I enjoyed this record with the hindsight and distance that history can afford. Therefore, my listening was also without any sentimental connection or nostalgia. Three stars despite some five star songs.

51/100

This one is fine, not excited by it nor do I dislike it. Pretty boring at times. 3/5

I liked this one. It was interesting.

Classic rock, can feel a bit samey but formula works

Dit is wel leuke muziek. Lekker rustige rock muziek. ***

Very solid Rock Album.

Not bad, this is my first time listening to T. Rex other than hearing Bang a Gong on the radio. Fun glam rock, it does get kind of repetitive after a while though. Wish the album was 20% shorter and 20% faster.

This was a good ol’ romp of glam rock wasn’t it! Enjoyed it well, but not enough to rush out and buy it or add it to my list. Bloody good though!

Not as good as electric warrior but still a good sounding classic rock album that has some variety in the songs. A couple songs sounded similar to the black keys with heavy blues sound. Some other were a bit more poppy. And there were some that were more guitar and rock. This is a good way to compose an album. Would revisit this one. 6.7/10

This feels like I'm listening to a regular 80s/90s rock album but I've done a tiiiiny bit of heroin

I like this. T. Rex is a always a good listen.

Rock suave y tranquilo de comienzos de los 70. No excesivamente revolucionario. Influencia para otra serie de grupos. Le ha faltado un punto más de agresividad o de energía

almost good sometimes. ballroom of mars

Для глэм-рока неплох, 2.5/5

Boogie woogie shoogie oogie.

ambient bolan

solid rock album, a bit on the softer rock side, not bad

- Never listened to a T Rex album in full before - Kind of what I was expecting, good but nothing spectacular - Opening track was probably the best - Fav songs: Metal Guru, Rock On, Spaceball Ricochet

Ik vind T. Rex altijd wel tof, maar dat andere album dat we hadden was een stukje leuker.

Ach ja.

Perhaps the only track I have heard from T.Rex is "Bang a Gong" (not on this album). The lead singer's voice is easily recognizable. The Slider is a consistent album, but not sure if I'm hearing enough diversity in the music to keep my attention. "Baby Boomerang" caught my attention for a bit, but "Chariot Choogle" is a track I'd rather not sit through again. This album sits in a firm 3 star rating - it was an okay album but I don't see a reason to revisit.

It was goodd i had a nice time listening to it, ive listened to few of their songs before so yeah 7,5/10

While the songs all sound kind of the same, I like the sounds. Good guitar parts and accents, harmonically interesting, decent production.

A friend of mine described this as "no-frills glam rock" before i dove in for a listen. I protested, because, well, glam rock is literally ALL frills. What the fuck is glam if not frills? It makes sense, though. If you distilled it down to its essence, this is what would come out the other side. A frilly frill-less 3.5/5

maybe it’s just because the album cover kinda looks like that girl with her hat but this album feels like it could exist in the original 1982 Blade Runner world. obviously not in the story we see but i feel like it could exist in a lighter story set in the same universe. idk

An album that didn’t particularly excite me but didn’t upset me either. T Rex seems to be at their best when they’re playing whimsical nonsense songs, but this album still seems to be lacking in ways which makes me question why this is considered a great album. It’s in the weird gray area where I don’t love the album, which would lend credence to it’s praise, but I don’t feel as though the album was offensive to me either, meaning I see the appeal it has for others. 5.5/10

This album made me want to listen to Electric Warrior.

Slider to her DMs 😂 fine album btw

The shlider

Great intro track. Love the swinging drums and back-and-forth vocal part. Funny name too. I've heard about this band but never went out to listen to them. I'll always remember my highschool art teacher Mr. Hill loved T.REX and he had drawn a T.REX onto his smock and I remember thinking he was a cool guy. Unfortunately I didn't catch a lot of my stream-of-consciousness thoughts while listening because I was pretty busy while listening but I will say that I did enjoy this album and I liked how many sing-along sort of choruses they had. You can tell that they had a lot of intention behind big repeatable ideas in the songs on this album and their loose, swinging rhythms and harmonies really loud a nice foundation for the music. I enjoyed it enough for a 3/5 and I think if I had something more attached to this album that I would more easily give it a 4.

The Slider is a very good album, boasting a diverse range of tracks that showcase T. Rex's musical versatility. From the groovy, guitar-driven opener "Metal Guru" to the dreamy ballad "Spaceball Ricochet," the album is a journey through various moods and styles. The album's standout track, "Telegram Sam," is a catchy and infectious rock anthem that perfectly encapsulates T. Rex's unique sound. One of the most impressive aspects of The Slider is its production value. The album's sound is crisp, clear, and expertly mixed, allowing Bolan's vocals and guitar work to shine. The production also showcases the band's use of studio effects and techniques, which were quite ahead of their time in 1972. Bolan's songwriting is poetic and evocative, often drawing on imagery from mythology and folklore. His lyrics are open to interpretation, whilst can be frustrating but it's leaving ample room for the listener to find their own meaning in his words. Overall it's a very solid 70s rock release and I like it's place on this list.

Gode minner fra tidlige tenår, dette!

feels like rockabilly I don't know if that's correct but I kept being reminded of that Johnny Depp movie Crybaby

Not massive on T-Rex, but Bolan did what he did perfectly.

The Slider is the seventh album by English rock band T. Rex. It was released to critical acclaim at the height of the band's popularity. This glam rock / power pop album was some of the best work that the band T. Rex created. It was a hauntingly beautiful masterpiece of strange, spooky, yet catchy music with a lazy groove present throughout. For the most part I liked this album and its vibe. However, some of the tracks weren't as ear-catching and seemed like stepping stones to the good stuff. Overall, it is a great UK glam rock album from the early 70's.

I understand and appreciate the concept, but it’s just a bit too sing-songy for me. Honestly sounds like if Great Value The Beatles collaborated with Great Value David Bowie to make an album.

What an awesome first track. I had to listen to Metal Guru a different times because it was such a vibe. This is my first experiance listening to T.REX and right out of the gate, I'm interested. -There's alot of crazy harmonies in alot of these songs, I don't know why but alot of the vocal lines with harmonies remind me of Gun's N Roses I didn't have time to finish the album but I'd say overall, it was pretty good, but not great. Alot of the songs are very forgettable on this album and eventhough I just listened to it yesterday, I can't think of how any of the songs on the album went except Metal Guru. Notable Tracks: Metal Guru, Buick McCane,

The howl in the first 10 seconds did not prepare me for how soft the rest of this album would be. I think a lot of things this one does best are subtle. The production sounds really good, especially in headphones. I didn’t even notice until second listen but the bass player also goes kind of crazy the whole album which adds a lot. Main Man is probably my favorite on here, the vocal effects are really cool and I like the idea of the lyrics. A lot of the middle of this album just kind of ran through without standing out too much, I can see how people would have loved this if they were looking for this kind of chill vibe though. Cover art: 6/10 I love the font and the black and white is cool with like light and trees and shit in the background but I don’t like the way he’s looking at me

The interaction between the strings and the guitar on certain songs is really cool and along with the production helps boost this album a lot. The songs aren’t especially well written and have pretty simple structures but the melodies on most of them are pretty good and his dark vocal delivery is unique. I can see how this influenced a ton of British artists from the Smiths to Blur and Oasis so it’s cool for that reason too. Wasn’t a mind blowing album by any means but I did enjoy it and it was one of the better 3’s I’ll give. 👍: the slider, baby strange, metal guru Just found out Marc Bolan was the lead guitarist and singer so that’s pretty dope too.

This album is as glam rock as it gets. Has some cool grooves and great energy. Ironically, this album left me somewhat bored. There was just nothing here that seemed new or fresh. Felt like I’ve heard it before. It wasn’t bad by any means but it just felt like I was going through the motions while listening. By the time it was over I was ready for it to end. To say something good, it started and ended with its two best tracks in my opinion. Best: metal guru, telegram Sam, main man Tim’s MMM (not a lot of strong contenders today): METAL GURU IS IT YOU🤨

Never heard T. Rex before, but quite enjoyed this. "The Slider" was great, but plenty of other good songs too. 🦖🦖🦖

This was very clearly heavily imitated.

It's fun

It's pretty groovy, I quite enjoyed it.

Kinda Bowie vibes in some ways a pretty good rock album. Would come back to some songs.

Meh. I got through the album but it was pretty standard rock and some blues. Some of the songs were repetitive and I didn't care for the slower ones. Overall a pretty mixed bag that averages out to a middle of the road experience. Score: 60 Album art: 50

I have never listened to or even heard of T. Rex. I thought it was pretty enjoyable with an upbeat sound. Most of the songs are simple and repetitive but it's a solid record. Wish I found something on here that stood out.

It is ok a guess. I prefer David Bowie.

Nice but not that much interesting.

I had never heard of this album or any of the songs on it, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Good beat with some nice hooks.

I went into this listen with a lot of hype. I admit to "peeking" at the global reviews prior and seeing nothing but high praise, a lot of "zero misses", and "inspiring". My friends were also praising the album with similar words. I pressed play and I waited and waited for that moment to hit me but it never really did. I listened to the album 3 times in a row yesterday hoping to "get" it. To feel what the internet felt. To feel what my friends felt. But I never really did. Now, don't get me wrong, it wasn't an album that made me think "golly I wish this was over" (I listened to it for several hours!). I just felt like none of the songs really grabbed me, some of them were a little obnoxious lyrically speaking, and some of them were just kind of...boring. It's a bummer that I'm writing all of this because I really really wanted to _love_ this album but I just didn't. I liked it. It was good. I would put it on while driving down PCH on a sunny day but did it blow my mind? Nope. I will say that one thing I found to be super interesting about this album was just hearing where many modern artists found inspiration for their own sound. That's always a cool moment to me. Hearing your favorite artist's favorite artist. Although, to me, even those artists aren't really my _favorite_ artists. Agh I really wish I enjoyed this album more than I did. I feel like I am missing out on something (much like Jacob felt in his review of Cohen's "I'm Your Man"). I am excited to give Bolan another shot with Electric Warrior which I believe is also on this list? Anyway, I felt a very very strong 3.0/5 with this one. Maybe I'm not as big of a glam rock fan as I thought I was. I'm sorry BolStans, I just didn't get it!

I thought it was great! But the front half is much better than the back. It’s good for a few great songs. It fun, creative, just loud and rough and got a lot of energy. I dug it! Though yeah, not enough to give it a 4. I still had a great time; though. 3/5

Needs a few more listens but I liked it

Kinda like bowie.

fun, little surprising

3 stars

Album carino, ma non il massimo.

T.Rex - The Slider https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLTuEmi7mvA&list=PLz6cAheObZchibGOwawEd3eG8msDvVF_s&index=1 13 Tracks - Not my genre... Coté 3.

Good sound, not much in the way of content.

It was alright! Last song was hideous but other than that it played along nicely in the background. Not much to say about the album really.

I liked his voice, and I was jamming a bit to his music. However, it wasn't a total hit, and I'm not sure how amazing as pure background music it would be. I liked in particular Telegram Sam, and could see maybe liking Metal Guru in the future. This could be an album to revisit again to see how I feel. Very 70's though with the unique sounds but not as exploratory as other albums of that time.

Interesting, but similar to many artists of it's time. Enjoyable but nothing extremely memorable. May be worth a second try at some point.

Chórki i smyczki najlepsze.

It has hard to avoid a close comparison with Ziggy Stardust era Bowie. And how much does Buick Mackane sound like Evie by the Easybeats? Notwithstanding these thoughts, I enjoyed this as an album by a band that has their own sound and know what to do with it.

it's good

Beetje saaie rock. 3

What an interesting soft rocker. Did not listen to them back in the day but would have liked to have them closing out the high school dance whe n you're trying to keep the mood up but resetting the mood of your date for the afterdate. At least if I had dates that's how I would have liked it

09/10/25 it was fine, kinda repetitive and boring, but enjoyable

this album was ok but a bit disappointing overall. They must have been on quite the drugs when they randomly put two words together for the song titles. Music was meh

Rocking album, but nothing really stood out here.

not as good as cosmic dancer somewhat boring in places but decent easy listening

It was ok all the songs kind of sound the same though

Background music, probably not coming into my library

Not a bad listen

It was sounding quite repetitive to start, but enjoyable enough

I'm pretty sure I liked this better than Electric Warrior. It was kind of fun, kind of cool. "Telegram Sam" sounded like "Bang a Gong" which might be sort of repetitive but that's a good song, so I'm okay with it. Not spectacular, but not a waste of time.

I was totally tickled at first. I thought that this would be really fun. It turns out that there isn't much range here, so it got a bit not so fun and more just more of a ho-hum head nod listen.

T. Rex has some fun hooks and a distinctive sound but a kind of limited range. I got tired of this album real fast.

This was just ok for me. I liked the previous T Rex selection Electric Warrior quite a bit more. This was okay but not thrilling to me for whatever reason.

Glam rock isn’t generally my thing, but this was a pretty fun listen

Fair few bangers, couple of stinkers

The album was alright, just kinda there. I dont think I recognized any of the songs. It is better than a 2 but not really a 3. I will round up.

An LP that really puts the rock in glam-rock. Plenty of laid back, in-the-groove melodies and tracks to dig into here, and while some border on repetitive with their track length, most are great shots of tranquil, fuzzed-out guitar right into the bloodstream.

I'm not particularly big on Britpop. I did, however, enjoy this album. It's fun and melodic. Highlights include: -Metal Guru -The Slider -Telegram Sam

Really good! A nice catchy glam rock album.

This was enjoyable enough

I know T. Rex only for their hits, so this album was an entirely new experience for me. I'm not totally sure how I feel about it. Good rock, but very little stood out to me. I enjoyed Baby Boomerang, but I can't name another song looking back. They just felt repetitive, especially the last one just repeating the same lyrics over and over.

Je vois

les dinosaures toujours aussi engageants

decent glam rock album, ultimately let down by a focus on being ‘grand’, which I feel is a problem with the genre as a whole.

Not mind taste, yet totally listenable.

Entertaining, familiar and lots of fun while it’s on, even if, ultimately, it’s an album that doesn’t linger long in the memory once it’s finished.

Verrassend leuk, beetje simpel

Loved the mix that followed, but not this album.

Better than I expected, easy to listen to, great background music when cooking and tidying etc. no bangers but no stinkers

T. Rex eru frekar góðir.

Boys swagger Confusion cert'nty Blank party

I loved T-Rex and Marc Bolan in the 70s. Those hits are still great. I enjoyed the album but it was the singles that stood out so only a 3*

Liked it although it did get a bit samey. Also got distracted by the fact each song seemed to just be two random words thrown together -- "Baby Boomerang", "Spaceball Ricochet", "Telegram Sam", "Chariot Choogle" etc.

Enjoyed this too

Not their best but still pretty good.

Feels very much like the classic rock I'm assuming it to be. Enjoyed it, but probably don't need to listen again. Did add one song to a playlist.

There’s a charm and immediacy to Bolan’s music that’s hard not to like - it also makes for extremely approachable and catchy songs. I like the tone and production a lot but as time passes I start to grow tired of the repetitive nature of the songs and lack of change. I start to get into the record again with the powerful “Chariot Choogle”, but I think this would’ve been better had Bolan just kept this as a short 35 minute album.

There's some catchy stuff on here and I enjoyed it on the whole, but it pales in comparison to Electric Warrior

Pleasant

i think i’m simply fatigued on this genre of music 😩

75/100: I’m shocked that this album was released in 1972. This does not sound like a 70’s album, especially not one from the early 70’s. This must have sounded so weird when it first came out because it’s such a “modern” sound. The lead singer doesn’t steer into any clichéd 70s sound; in fact, he sounds more like a pop grunge artist from the late 90s than a counter culture singer of the early 70s. With that being said, I really liked this album, but it just doesn’t stand out to me enough to warrant receiving a stand out score. On to the next one.

3 stars. Everyone raves about this record but I honestly don’t care for it. Slow and uninteresting

Este estuvo bueno.

A fun rock album with catchy melodies and a good sound that IS still sounds good today. Bit basic

Listens: 3 Enjoyed: yeah, more of a guilty pleasure type of enjoy A weird mix between pop and rock. I feel like the Lumineers took the same template and went with a softer as this leans more into rock. Sort of feels like a good introduction to rock for children

Psych Folk rock, Beatles vibe, some experimental stuff with horns and strings. Great stuff especially considering the era it was made in. Definitely will get back to this I was a nice discovery.

A lot of Bobby and a looootttt of baby lol loved Ballrooms of Mars though

Pretty cool, but makes me regret giving Khaled 3 stars yesterday.

My problem with TR is that they bridge the whimsy of the 60s and hard guitar glam of the early 70s and it doesn't work for me. Bowie reinvented himself Bolan retains the flower power. The 2 singles that start both sides are strong but otherwise is all a bit meh. 3

It's easy to see how this was a bridge between the Beatles and harder rock, but it's still an album I wouldn't actively seek out. Just not my style.

Not as good as Electrolux Warrior

Interesting rock album, would listen again

Hearing music that must have influenced Black Keys. But didn’t often catch my ear.

average glam rock

Pretty nice

Fun classic rock album, didn’t know they had other good songs.

Groovy! Not totally a fan but it was a fun listen regardless

3.5 liked it

I have no recollection of listening to this album and I wasn't even drunk

Great album but pales in comparison to Electric Warrior. Notable tracks are "Metal Guru", "Telegram Sam", and "Ballroom of Mars".

Close ups. Big lipstick lips. Glitter. Come hither looks. Baby baby baby fa la la la la. As sexy rocking as crooning. Not much more to say about the boyish charm of this sexy album.

As expected from Bolan. Quite good 70s rock n roll. Nothing psychedelic or hippie. Some good riffs and guitar solos. Not bad, Marc.

Not my sound, but easy listening for sure, and definitely something I wouldn't go out of my way to turn off.

It trundles along with some nice tunes, but not much more

As someone who hasn't listened to them before, I thought it was a decent listen. Perfect for logging into work first thing and digging through meaningless emails. Upbeat enough to keep me focused. May actually check out some other albums by them.

Eletroc warrior je bolji. Sve pisme su na istu foru i nemaju hookove potrebne za ovako nešto

Solid rock album. Nothing too standout.

C'est un bon album de glam rock. Peut-etre un peu moins mon genre mais j'ai apprécié et ca c'est bien écout.é pendant la course. Cepandant, rien vraiment d'Accorcheur... 3.15

I dont think I've ever listen to that, I appreciate my listening. Not sure if I consider this a all time classic, but it's good glam rock.

Very good. 7/10

Interesting to see the flow from the Beatles to glam. Some good tunes but kinda wanders around.

Is it okay to like the idea of T.Rex and many songs by T.Rex but not necessarily want a whole album of T.Rex? I feel it is sacrilege to say that after a while the perky vocals and the jerky guitar and the hyper horns and the falsetto backing vocals start to grate and interest wanes. Pick some bangers like Telegram Sam and Metal Guru and there you are. T.Rex singles. All you'll ever need.

3 1/2, could be more… can definitely hear elements from today’s (well 2010’s) indie/alternative scene.

Just a little bit too much Glam after hearing Electric Warrior less than 2 weeks ago. Metal Guru is a standout and lots of highlights along the way but just too much Glam in one sitting.

I was expecting much more from this release when I received it this morning. It's not bad, but far from something really remarkable for me.

Si pasa

I want to like this album more than I actually do. It is a good album, but just not really my thing. I love a lot of artist that this album inspired though I don't love the album itself. "Ballrooms Of Mars" was probably my favorite track, the guitar work on it made the song shine. I think its cult status is persuading me to give it a better rating.

Ok, found it unengaging perhaps as feels so many of the ideas of it are reused elsewhere now.

I like T. Rex but again I think over represented here. The lyrics have a nice flow but is it just a load of twaddle? I don’t think this is the strongest album.

favorite: Ballrooms of mars

I muchhhh prefer electric warrior to the slider. This is not quite as fun somehow. Still love Bolan's voice a lot and still love how it has some kind of unique pazazz which no other bands possess in the same way. The mixture of beats and sounds is lovely. Really enjoying this album but it is certainly fading into the background a bit for me.

Not my cup of tea but I def thought this was going to be less flowery and more like metal

Middling

Not bad. Actually quite liked the sound. Similar to Bowie. Why it's a 3/5 is because there's not enough variation from song to song. Any one single is probably a 5/5, but overall it's like hearing it on repeat.

Pretty cool glam rock album. Did get a little samey, but it was enjoyable enough.

This is some good early glam rock.

Not bad, though really not good. Seemed lacking to me, though I did at least listen to the whole album. (not a remark on THIS album, but my selected albums have really sucked lately. Due to this, I am being generous on my score here) C-

Me gustó, cuando apareció Buick Makane fue un grito de gol. Aguante.

Some solid jams. Been trying to find the song 'Metal Guru' for years and never thought this is where I would find it. Groovy.

Not really my thing, but some good, easy listening. 6.5/10.

3/5. Solid, but unspectacular. Preferred it to the last couple of albums, but not by a huge margin. I really liked the opener, but it's all a little bland afterwards. Not awful, but not one that I'll listen to again. Sneaks into the 3 category as it all fits well together as an album.

Listened Before? N The genesis of Glam Rock, according to Wikipedia! Pros: Loved the glam sound and the consistency of the album. This one surprised me. I will probably listen to it again. Cons: Difficult to understand lyrics, and lots of repetition. Not too bad overall, though. Songs added to Playlist: The Slider

I remember listening to Telegram Sam in a booth at the local record store. Odd really as I was always going to buy the record. So there was much anticipation of this album a few months later. Bought on the day of release and listened to over and over. It was great, couldn't be anything else. Now decades later listening to the whole album in one session it doesn't have the same resonance. The singles and a few other tracks, title song included are still great. What I did pick up are traces of the pre Electric Warrior band in some of the songs, Chariot Choogle, Spaceball Ricochet. The production certainly added polish. While it may no longer be a regular listen it is good to reminisce and the lyrics are still playful and silly plus there is some chunky guitar work.

Pretty coolig

eh it wasn't bad but nothing stood out to me much

9th February 2022 Listened on the dark and wet drive back to London. I like T-Rex and Marc Bolan in general. Glammed up to the eyeballs.

Glam rock has never really been my thing, but I did enjoy this. Certain slower parts felt very Velvet Underground. There are some serious grooves on this. Favorite tracks: "Chariot Choogle", "Telegram Sam", "Baby Boomerang"

Fine, some moments I enjoyed. 3.5

This one is wildly unspectacular and I have no idea what merits its inclusion on this list. It's just unobtrusive, radio-friendly rock that goes in one ear and out the other without leaving much of an impression. But it's better than most of what I've had to listen to from this list for the past week.

Metal guru! I always wondered what they were saying!

Fantastic, I think this might be my second T.Rex album from the list and this one belongs on it too. Definitely hear the influence on Bowie and 80s New Wave. 3.5/5

frekar meinlaust

I don't know what this is. What the hell is Glam Rock. It is so strange. It is like David Bowie + rock. I think it's fine, I just don't get it.

Fun stuff, especially the back half, but it works better as individual songs rather than a full album. Nothing draws me back enough to listen again start to finish.

As they go more glam, I lose interest. Still enjoyable, but lacking in the stuff I liked from the previous record.

Always partial to a bit of Glam Rock, and there's no better place to go than T Rex when you need to scratch that itch

Pretty straight forward classic rock. Steady guitar riffs and a few changes. Buick McCane was my favorite

This might be the hardest album I have had to give a score so far. I enjoyed it mainly for the clean production, solid guitar work, and consistent vibe throughout the whole record. This is another set of great background music which is not necessarily a bad thing; however, I didn't feel that there were any standout tracks or moments which makes it a little harder to judge. I would guess that it would be a grower upon multiple listens, but I am not sure if there was enough for me to give it my full attention in the future (although I definitely wouldn't be opposed to listening to it again in the right setting). 3/5. NOTE: I was a couple of songs in when I randomly thought "This sounds similar to the Bang a Gong song", and it turns out that song is also by T. Rex! Not my favorite song, but I think it's funny that with all of the songs I have heard over my lifetime that I was able to make that connection.

It's ok I guess. Wouldn't turn it off if I heard it again but probably won't go seeking it out either. Every song on this album was about a 3.5 or so.

Some fun to be had here. I wouldn’t gush over it.

I love quite a bit of Bolan's music but this album wasn't as good a I expected it to be.

I never saw the appeal of T.Rex but I didn’t mind this. Some decent guitar and maybe his voice isn’t as whiny as and over effected as later songs? Interesting to read that they were doing folk songs a couple of years previously.

Decent album but I’ve never been a big fan

Pretty standard glam rock.

Much more enjoyable than electric warrior. A slice of glam rock pop wonderful with a peice of ham.

Cool album. Simple blues based rock. Lacks a wow factor but not bad.

Quite beautiful and romantic, while defining the gram rock genre definitively.

Metal guru Slider

Rating: 6/10

It was alright.

Pretty alright glam rock. 6/10

Catchy pop hooks in some classicest of rocks. Nothing to complain about but nothing to fawn over

I find this album a bit tough to rate. I liked it okay, but no part of it really stood out to me. I could certainly see how it would be significant for the time, but it doesn't sound particularly fresh or distinctive listening to it now. I want to give it a 4, but ultimately I feel like this album is sorta average for this list 3/5

Wahrscheinlich auch eine Etappe auf der Road to Punk. Bekannt von flowerpower samplern aber nicht schlecht

Wasn't crazy about it but did like telegram sam.

3.5 out of 5 for me, great instrumentation similar to Bowie and Reed era but not as interesting

It almost feels lazy to see the same thing happen on each track from The Slider. Bolan takes the title of the track, repeats that a couple of times each chorus, changes the tempo a bit and sings in the exact same key for a couple of minutes. Its decent, but way too repetitive. 3/5.

Not my type but I see the appeal as usual!

Strong start but tails off

Talented for sure, but it does go on a bit...

I think I prefer Electric Warrior but this is still a decent album.

My existing opinion of T.Rex was that they were a Rolling Stones clone. I hate The Rolling Stones. Nothing about this album has changed my opinion. It’s capital-F Fine. Easy to ignore, inoffensive, but not terribly original or interesting. The Rolling Clones.

Seems like the kinda stuff lots of people were doing at the time. Nothing stood out too much but not shit music.

Pretty good

Fun classic-50's-rock-type album with some punk notes. Still not 100% my thing but more enjoyable than the majority of albums I've heard already.

Ballroom of mars is a classic, sound is quite interesting for the time

Meh. Was really looking forward to this. It’s ok. Can’t really say much else to be honest!

Great album that was new to me.

same as the previous, liked it but wouldn't listen to it again

Nothing *too* too special but surprisingly decent for 70s rock. None of the songs seem to be really about anything but that's ok in my book :)

Better than expected.

It's okay. Kind of boring, generic sounding. I'm sure it wasn't at the time, but now a days this is a dime a dozen to me.

No great songs, but decent. Pretty consistent

Ok, this is getting ridiculous now, but they do all sound the same! One song, done very well.

marc bolan would boycott the ESL. pretty sure that's what i got from all his lyrics.

songs i have never heard but heard a million times

Some nice songs, got a bit samey

Nice album, title track is great!

First time I've listened to a whole T.REX album :)

Enjoyable but not mind blowing

Songwriting doesn't do much for me. It's well produced and executed for what it's worth, I like the fuzzy guitars and there's a great confident vibe from the vocalist that effectively makes these songs better than what they are: shallow and lame. I throw it a 3 for goodwill, but I only thought it was alright.

At first this album didn’t do much for me but there were some songs that I did like quite a bit. Still, I found much of this album fairly boring. It’s not bad by any means but it just seemed like a fairly normal rock album. Favorite songs: Metal Guru, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, Rabbit Fighter Least Favorite Songs: The Slider, Ballrooms of Mars Strong 6/10

I'm pretty sure T.Rex would have been long forgotten if Marc Bolan had lived to an old age rather than going out young wrapped around a tree. This album is fine, no more, no less.

Some crackers, but a singles band really.

Alright that

La verdad no logró llamar mucho mi atención. Mood: blah...

Pues okay, rock clasiquito, yo digo, a gusto, poco variado, pero a veces con buen ritmo. Fui fan de "The Slider", "Buick Mackane" y "Cadilac".

I'm not sure I've ever listened to this record--a good listen, but not as many iconic tracks as Electric Warrior.

T. Rex, fronted by Marc Bolan, was one of the most popular bands in the UK in the 60s and early 70s. They are seen as one of the pioneers of the glam rock scene. This is a great record. Nothing really stuck out as incredible, but everything is pretty solid. Satellite Sam is pretty cool

I've tried this album a couple times and still can't tell if I like it

ahead of its time

Really bored by the first four tracks. The second half was surprisingly good. Overall, pretty solid.

Not bad, but not exceptional.

Couple interesting songs. Overall enjoyed it.

Forget how distinctive a sound trex have. Enjoyed it.

I really enjoy T. Rex. The songs are uplifting, fun to sing along with and have a nice atmosphere. However, I am discovering that listening to a whole album of it is a little excruciating. A song here and there on the radio is great, a couple of songs in succession is also great. This though, I was impatient for it to end so I could go and listen to something that didn't sound exactly like all of T.Rex songs.

"Metal Guru" is an entertaining upbeat first track. Overall feel very mellow with hints of T. REX's psychedelic rock past. Reminds me some other 60's psychedelic rock group, but remember which now.

okish i guess

It was fine, but missed a bite

Unremarkable, neither bad nor good

Pretty good rock and roll. I'd listen to it again ya.

Slower Rock than im used to but still enjoyed it all the same. Cant really compare it to anything....maybe folk at times.

Good stuff, might like Electric Warrior as much or better?

decent rock album that still has traces of blues and other remarkable features

I don't care if this was the inspiration for every hair metal band ever, it's just overhyped 70s rock. It's not awful, some of it actually kinda pumps, but I definitely don't care enough to ever listen again. 3/5.

Just so-so for me.

The most listened to and first song tested me. I almost actively despise this - I'm sorry to any fans. It does seem important in bringing hard rock to pop if that hand't been done yet and seems like a transition from 60s to 70s. Some of the less popular songs are ok. At least not every song is about sex. I think.

I also don’t feel any particular way towards this album. It’s not something I would go out of my way for though.

Not quite my tempo

Catchy yet empty. Becomes boring. Gets a 2 as the first few were okay til it vastly outstayed its welcome.

p270. 1972. 2 stars. Limited 70s glam rock, and proof that T.Rex were always a better singles band than album artist. There are some great riffs here, but there is also far too much filler.

T. Rex’s 1972 album The Slider lands as a consistently underwhelming effort that struggles to escape a sense of sonic monotony, ultimately resulting in a 2/5 rating. While the project features occasional bright spots—such as the infectious hook on "Buick McCaine," the genre-bending ambition of "Telegram Sam," the unique melodic appeal of "Baby Strange," and the enjoyable energy of "Chariot Choogle"—these moments are frequently overshadowed by a pervasive repetition that makes the tracklist feel indistinguishable. The listener is often left underwhelmed by standard rock arrangements that blur together, exacerbated by production choices that fail to provide necessary clarity or separation between the diverse instrumentation. Despite flashes of impressive guitar work on tracks like "Rabbit Fighter," the album lacks the distinct character needed to elevate it, leaving the majority of the record feeling like a collection of pleasant but ultimately forgettable songs rather than a cohesive or essential listening experience.

I don't understand why I like David Bowie but I don't like T. Rex. This is basically Ziggy Stardust 2...why does it put me to sleep?? Same thing with Electric Warrior. I've tried so many times and it never hits. It feels like I'm listening to it through a wall.

Marc Bolan was David Bowie’s big rival at one time. I remember all of T-Rex’s sound the same. Metal Guru is a fantastic song. Great guitar hook. Nothing else really stands out. Songs do sound the same. Lyrics not good. Often nonsensical Even with Telegram Sam the album is not good. Two stars.

Catchy, but not a single memorable line. Discount Bowie.
