Reviews (page 7 of 8)

weirdly t rex has been mentioned to me a lot these days so it was funny it was today's album but i didn't really like that many tracks off this album beside main man

Solidly British

Beyond the excellent metal guru there is not much here to enthuse about. Very samey. The start of something good but nothing more

Yet another T. Rex album that leave me without much sentiment about it. There were some more memorable songs but in the end I don't think I'll ever go back to it.

Electric Warrior is a better album, and it's only okay outside of the hits and this one is much like the normal T. Rex songs.

Kept hoping for Bang A Gong but got nothing instead.

I didn't find anything particularly remarkable about this album. I found it to be a bit boring and too repetitive at times. Some of the tracks were better, with Chariot Choogle standing out to me in particular, but not enough to elevate this album overall.

4/10 Fun beats but I thought a lot of the lyrics were pretty weak

Meh slide right off

As a follow up to the great Electric Warrior, Slider is a massive disappointment. Way over produced, and no real standout songs.

Quite boring to be honest

Not a glamourous album from a glam rock icon.

Was it just me or were a couple of the first songs super repetitive.. I really couldn't get past that. The album got better I suppose as it went on but this rating is a gift on my part.

I understand the cultural significance but its just...not that good

I'm not that big on this album. The songs don't seem to go anywhere and tend towards the repetitive. That isn't inherently a bad thing, but 45 minutes of it is fatiguing. I don't know if I will come back to this one. Favorite track: "Telegram Sam"

It's ok, but quite repetitive. Definitely of its time.

Not really a fan of T. Rex, and The Slider did nothing to change that. Generally just kind of boring. It's not terrible, just does nothing for me.

They're calling it the most forgettable album ever.

Boring rock strikes again. It lacked variety, didn’t really have many memorable riffs or melodies. Considering I really like rock music, I seem to dislike a lot of rock music.

Decent, but the only direction this album was sliding was right back into Get It On...

I thought it was fine.

I was bored

bouais pas tant que ça kiffe bizarrement

Tiresome very quickly

I was much more familiar with Electric Warrior by T. Rex which I really like. I didn’t hate this album but no one song grabbed me. 2.8

not for me

I just don't care for glam rock. I will say that just based on when this was released compared to its sound, it was a little ahead of its time. I'm not sure we needed two instances of T.Rex on this list. His other album is better.

So, glam rock eh? Jeepster made a big impact on me when I first heard it (as a pre-teen). Later there was Gary Glitter - magnetic/appalling at the same time, then as we learned more about him his music became repugnant, unplayable, and besmirched the simplistic side of glam rock generally. (Was the simplicity just manipulation of teenie purchasing power?) Anyway, this album: T.Rex's 7th?? And it was very popular??? I'll grant that Bolan had a knack of getting down super simple verse/chorus hooks with minimal lyrics, and a lot of self-confidence to keep churning songs out. But Metal Guru and Telegram Sam seem like someone is taking the piss. And there are a few creepy aspects: the backing vocals almost always one octave up, over unison bass and guitar, is a bit psycho; the lyric fetish re cars (Jaguar, Buick, Cadillac) is yuck. (On the other hand, I will credit the two note guitar solo in Baby Boomerang, that was art ahead of its time.) I wondered whether Bolan might turn out to also be certified or probable creep - apparently is nothing on the internet to say he was a predator - but his fortune "variously estimated at between £20 and £30 million" was as of 2022 locked in a trust, not accessible to his son, hmm. I'm pretty sure life is too short for me to ever bother playing through the album again, so I'll say it's Poor, 3/10.

Well, it is very early 70s. I guess this is sort of proto-glam rock? I didn't really vibe with this honestly. I see why it is influential but it's not my cup of tea.

I usually really like T-Rex, but I guess I usually get them in smaller doses. This was a bit too long and a bit too samey for me.

Each song is very repetitive. As a stand-alone song it's fine, but multiple of a very static beat is not great.

I feel like I should like them but I don't. It has the distortion that implies they have energy and intensity, but then they are laid back and slow. Buick Mackane was the best on the album, but mostly this just made me want to move to the next track. Telegram Sam was a musical reprint of a past hit, Get It On. I guess this just reinforces that I don't like glam rock, even from the pioneers of the genre.

I get why it's on here, but not for me

C+ glam rock

I didn’t know many T. Rex songs before this but I loved the ones I did know, so I had high hopes. I have to say I was kinda dissapointed, it wasn’t great. Fav song is ‘Baby Boomerang’.

Major ear worm factor but I can’t get behind it really at all

good, not mine

Nothing really in this one... 2.5

Not as good as their previous album "Electric Warrior" in my opinion, and although it contains two of their hit singles, "Metal Guru" and "Telegram Sam", there's not much else write home about.

Can feel the nostalgic rock vibes in this album. Not bad, but not quite my taste

I don't think they need more than 1 album on the list and not this one. It kind of sounds like Led Zeppelin without the annoying singing, but also without everything that makes them good. The rhythm section is not locked in. The singing is unsteady. That's the worst part. The singing. The songs are alright, but nothing special.

There's one song that, depending on the day, I might listen to but otherwise it just seemed flat and nothing really stuck with me.

Didnt hate it

A bit of an ordeal, always struggled with Bolan’s voice but I have to credit him for influencing some amazing bands

meh 2.5/5

Some nice rock music that I have not heard. I'm only familiar with the bang a gong song but this music is in the same style. Kind of early rock. Nothing real amazing but it would be nice for background music when you are doing something active.

This was a DNF for me. Not that it was offensively bad, but I just am not with the vocals or guitar tone on this one. Weirdly feels Bowie-esque but not in a way that sounds like they were ripping him off. Just not for me.

The singles are ok, but the rest is crap. Half of which has been toggled together from earlier songs.

I like their sound, but they are extremely repetitive.

2 5, painfully average

Enjoyed Electric Warrior quite a bit, this felt like a major step down

It's good, the first half felt very long and the 2nd half flew by. I felt like it was sort of repetitive, and definitely nothing too special.

It’s ok. In its day, it was probably the bomb! Now, a bit of a bore. Slow and predictable. Next time, instead of Bang a Gong, they might want to Gang a Bong for inspiration. Get it? You know… do drugs. At a party. With friends.

Fullstendig forglemmelig.

It's the second T.Rex album in my list so far and i discover that his sound it's not my thing except some very few exclusions,i mean i only liked ''Rip Off'' from Electric Warrior.Same here,i only liked''Ballrooms of Mars'' from this particular one. Maybe it was the lack of guitar solos or maybe the repetition of lyrics but i struggled again to find a song out of this album, 2/5

Strong 2. The first album that left me a bit surprised it's on the list. Not actively bad, but just really a nothing-burger and something that felt unremarkable and lacked anything that would be revolutionary for the time.

Not sure

Not innovative compared to "Get it on"

Listened to this one so many times, but I just couldn't get my head around whether I liked it. Turns out, I don't. It's the glam rock equivalent of Jason Mendoza's Skrillex concert where the beat never drops.

Fun album.

Vraiment pas mon style

I reviewed T. Rex’s Electric Warrior back in May, and I wasn’t a very big fan of it. I appreciated its influence, but overall, there just wasn’t much there for me to like. I do have higher hopes for The Slider though, since it came after Electric Warrior, and I’m hoping T. Rex added more to their sound as time went on. Time to slide into some more glam rock! Unfortunately, I enjoyed The Slider about as much as I enjoyed Electric Warrior. The album started off a good note with “Metal Guru” and “Mystic Lady,” but from there, the album mostly limped along to its conclusion. Like Electric Warrior, The Slider just couldn’t do anything more than some unique vocals from Marc Bolan and some fuzzy guitars occasionally mixed with some cool string arrangements. For the most part, I didn’t think the guitar playing was particularly noteworthy, and I barely even noticed the drums and bass on most of the songs. Overall, there just wasn’t anything on this album that really pulled me in. I liked Marc Bolan’s vocals better on this album, and T. Rex’s overall sound is alright, but I wished they just did more with it in terms of musicianship. As for the few highlights this album had: I enjoyed the heavy and fuzzy guitars of “Metal Guru,” and for some weird reason, I really liked the way that Marc Bolan pronounced “Metal Guru.” There was a cool rhythm to his vocals that just stood out to me. I liked the strings on “Mystic Lady,” and I wish there had been more pronounced strings on some other songs. “The Slider” had a really cool vibe to it. The vocals were good, the guitar playing was great, and the rhythms really stood out too. The strings really elevated the sound as well. “Buick McCane” had great rhythms to it, and the drumming was good too. This was one of the few instances on the album where the drumming really stood out. I think I’ve come to understand that I just don’t care for glam rock all that much. T. Rex is certainly influential, but their music just isn’t my speed. At least we’ll always have “Get It On.”

I'm not cool enough to get this.

T.Rex is a bit of an aquired taste. Brilliant, innovative and flashy, for sure, but not for everyone. The early 70s had a whole genre, of which T.Rex is in, of "big sounding" guitar heavy, melodic, but strange lyrics and a shift from just music to showmanship and performance. This is that - great album, nothing particularly memorable from my outsiders point of view, but clear talent and songwriting ability and fun to listen to.

Brad Linville music. Not my cup of tea. Not for me. I don't think so, Tim.

*1972. British glam rock. *Didn’t love this, but didn’t hate it either. *Pretty forgettable. *RATING - 6/10

A couple OK songs, but forgettable overall.

Rock on sounds like the weaker but edgier brother of their biggest hit “Get it on”. But the more I listened to it I enjoyed it apart from the chorus. Which actually became annoying as it teased the same melody as “get it on” but never delivered the final note. Fun album- interesting to listen to. Last 25% better than the rest. Few enjoyables Ballrooms of Mars (good reference to diamond hands - well before the world of Reddit) Baby Boomerang Buick Mackane (guitar indulgence for the band) Telegram Sam (lyrics are nonsensical - but not in an enjoyable way) Very much a product of the 1970s The issue with the album is most songs ends in the same way. Repeating the song title until the end

The album really shines when it leans into the up tempo glam tunes. The slower tunes don’t feel as interesting enough musically, maybe due to the vocal deliveries always being similar. The things this record wants to be, happened several months earlier on Ziggy Stardust.

Unremarkable

I wish I liked this band as much as my friends do but I do not. Everytime I listen to t.rex I feel like I'm missing an obvious joke and I'm just sort of mildly annoyed by their juvenility. Not a bad album but I don't love it.

It was ok

Holy shit this is so boring. Every song sounds like the last one. The vocals, the instruments, the production, it’s all the same. It’s even worse since the songs themselves have no interesting ideas.

It's ok, but it didn't speak to me that much.

You know, after hearing "Bang A Gong", you'd expect them to actually rock. This album has as many teeth to it as a West Virginia family reunion. Just... come on. Have a spine and some edge.

T Rex was big in the early 70s, evidently riding on the swell of Electric Warrior because The Slider doesn’t offer much. Low impact album. Good guitar work, but I never heard any of these songs before (zero radio play) and don’t need to hear’em again. A lot about wind and cars. (1.6*s)

Just a big ol' meh. 2.4

Honestly expected better.

I never rated march bolan

Not terrible, but not for me

did not really like

Metal Guru: Way too repetitive Mystic Lady: Better, but not by a lot, less repetitive which is a plus Rock On: Best one so far, tolerable, probably wouldn't listen to again The Slider: I would listen to this again, gives Smashing Pumpkin vibes Baby Boomerang: No, fuck no, don't like this rift at all, harmonies are terrible Spaceball Ricochet: Ehhh, okay Buick MacKane: Not great Telegram Sam: Can't believe this is one of the top songs, mid af Rabbit Fighter: Honestly, decent, like the ballad vibe Baby Strange: Decent Ballrooms of Mars: Like the random scream of ROCK and love the guitar solo afterwards Chariot Choogle: Don't like the progression or the wailing voice Main Man: Just okay Best Song: Ballrooms of Mars Worst Song: Baby Boomerang Not a huge fan of his voice or the sound, too general rock, I need something more interesting and wackier, which Ballrooms of Mars brought to the table. Would 100% listen to that song again. But in total, not a very good album

Sounds like something you'd listen to in order to tide yourself over until the next Bowie album comes out.

Ganska meh

Retrospectively good, but sounds like Alice Cooper doing sound check.

This was kinda ass. Some really bad stuff in here mixed with some ok Will I listen to again: 0%

Too slow too boring. 2/5

muito ruim porra mas poderia ser pior??

Groovy but Longlegs has me looking at this band differently. Packed and had a good run, tried to help an old woman find her dentures

There’s some really superb and heavy guitar outros on this album that wouldn’t be out of place on a Queens Of The Stone Age song, but I just think this very specific glam rock sound just isn’t for me; I find it all quite one-note.

Feels like a pretty generic glam rock album to me, just trying too hard to be like Bowie and not even coming close.

I don't think it's the right time for this. Not that's it bad. Listening experience is good overall, but just not for today. 4, 9, 10 highlights 11 has good guitars 13, good ending aswell. It's not really sticking to me though.

It's... okay? I don't have much to say about it, early rock so it's rather unpolished.

2/5. I remember enjoying Electric Warrior but can't remember why because this feels so weak and cheesy. I can enjoy a satirical album but I am not getting that from here. Like the simple beat is there to keep my leg bouncing but I am cringing at these lyrics and vocals. To be fair, there are some that lean into the more heavy guitar and these work much better. It feels like they are having fun but it feels a little too relaxed, like they are not recording an album, and not in the raw and authentic way. Best Song: Telegram Sam, Buick MacKane, Rabbit Fighter

A rather forgettable outing from big ol’ Tyrannosaurus Rex. 3/10

This is literally "Songs that sound suspiciously similar to 'Children Of The Revolution' and 'Get It On': the album". The opening riff of 'Buick Mackane' (which is one of the best tracks) sounds very much like 'Children Of The Revolution' and the next track 'Telegram Sam' is uncannily similar to 'Get It On'. I was actually quite surprised at how alike they were. It wasn't bad, but I found it a slight chore to get through. The title track and 'Chariot Choogle' were the other highlights. Not much more I can say really. If you like T. Rex's most popular tracks, you'll love this album. I was going to give it a three but I found little variance in it and it was slightly boring at times.

I hate how earwormy this is without being particularly good. I will never get Telegram Sam out of my head.

Nicht so meins, hab’s abgebrochen

Bolan likes to talk about himself like this a lot. Bolan also likes to rock. Bolan is a knob.

The riff in "Telegraph Sam" sounds almost identical to "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" ... though I prefer the latter.

Think I liked electric warrior more, but still a few good ones on here

Really? An album for the day? I'm not anti T.Rex - Electric Warrior has some good tracks on it - but The Slider is clearly from a man running out of ideas.

Badly mixed, instrumentals too loud. Vocals are not good. A bad follow up on "Electric Warrior" 2/5

nothing to write home about for me.

Generic blues sounding classic rock. Nothing special

'Meh. Realy, really, 'meh. So 'meh it wasn't even annoying.

Now I’ve heard more T.Rex which is nice but tbh it’s the most for me with these guys I think.

felt very repetitive

Better on the second listen. Some good tunes.

Groupe inconnu. =>2/5

A rock album that was low energy.

I like t.rex generally but this was kinda meh

Always been underwhelmed by Bolan, I’ve know a few people who have been obsessed with him but I never liked his vocals and that somewhat languid energy that seems to permeate everything, even when he “rocks out” ( don’t get me wrong I like laid back rock, but this is just limp, no backbone maybe I need the drugs they were most likely doing at the time). Think of them as a singles act where the 3 minute limit is ok, a whole album just drags me down. Listening to this today hasn’t changed that feeling. 2 Stars - he does write some good pop rock hooks ( which I like better when others cover them)

Not bad but not great either. -1 for unoriginality.

• 2/5 • hasn’t aged as well as Bowie from the same period and with a very similar sound

Like a rock band doing the Wiggles

se me hizo medio repetiti

Really didn't enjoy this album very much. Singing sometimes seemed intentionally bad, lyrics were often uninteresting or repetitive. BUT the Spotify radio based on this album did give me a bunch of great music so thanks for that at least I guess

This was kinda fun but it all kinda sounded the same to me and I was kinda tired of the sound after a few songs. Two stars.

Album cover got me excited, then the music dropped me off a cliff into a spike trap. And the spikes were blunt.

I was looking forward to this. But once you hear one T Rex song is pretty much all the same after.

Four songs in, this isn't really my kinda thing. It's a flavor of swinging, boogie down type of rock that doesn't usually connect with me. It's okay. I guess I can see where The Black Keys got some of their pastiche haha.

Kind of reminds me of Rocky Horror, but without the dancing.

Might have been a 3 if the vocals weren't so annoying. 2/5

Underwhelming.

Haven't heard this before. It's fine I guess, but not that memorable. Instead of "Get it On" we get "Telegram Sam", a weaker song based on the same Riff. This album has no lasting significance...shouldn't be on the list.

Boring glam/classic rock

Very monotonous. Also not my genre.

Why is T.Rex so influencial?

not super inspiring for me

weird.

This album was an absolute bore and a chore to listen to. The vocals were too processed, it was too plain without any interesting points in the songs. Not the worst on here, but more than deserving of a 2/5.

Good 70’s group, great lead singer, and guitarist. Some fun music.

#300. That's two albums in a row that have mentioned the word choogle. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice. 2/5: mediocre

Eipä tästä harmillisesti jäänyt muuta mieleen kuin Telegram Sam.

It’s an ok album.

I've never understood the meaning of the descriptor "glam rock." Is it only the clothing style of the performers? So Bowie and Roxy and Mott and Elton John are bedmates? And when that-era Zeppelin shows up to visit they climb under the covers too? It isn't that I dislike any of this--I like the wailing energy, I like the propulsive guitar, I like the crashing drums, but the lyrics often seem juvenile and the songs rarely have more than one idea. It's a good idea, but there is only one. Best heard one song at a time.

Album was fine, I don’t think I’m a T. rex fan because I think we got another a while back and I felt the same way. Just newer England rock. I’m over that genre. At this point it seems like any bloke across the pond who picked up a guitar is on this list.

Not great.

normal repetitive 70s rock no real highlights all the songs sound like they use the same riff all in all a mid album .

STANDOUTS: ....none? I didn't mind the tracks, but nothing STOOD out. OVERALL: 2.5/5

Did not realise how bad this album is

Pretty generic. Songs were very repetitive and just generally kind of boring. 3/10

If the wiggles made a rock album

Don’t understand the fuss. Steady, plodding at best with a few small highlights.

Government approved glam rock and roll

I doubt even nightcore remixing could save this one

That was a tedious listen. Not their best at all. I like Telegram Sam, and Buick McCane but apart from that, my big problem is that all the choruses seemed repetative and go on and on and on and on and...... It seems like that tree couldn't come quick enough towards him. A 2 star effort.

If I want to listen to something with this kind of sound I'd rather reach for Bowie or The Kinks.

Honestly I like glam rock and I hear traces of Bowie in this but this album had no standout pieces. Boring.

Really didn’t grab me. Found myself thinking (wishing) something catchy like Get It On or 20th Century Boy would come on but it was all pretty drab and samey. Obviously got the wrong T Rex album for today.

There is no doubt when T Rex is playing. Very distinctive sound....seems rather formulaic. Title track is worth a listen, but otherwise I'll pass

Cool hat, already forgot what this sounds like though unfortunately

Tengi ekkert sérstaklega við þetta.

Not really sure of the appeal of glam rock, though think I'd struggle to name what glam rock is outside of trex. Is Elton John glam rock? I do think children of the revolution is a decent song so it was very frustrating that about 3 of these songs were ripping it off. They must have been running out of ideas at this point. It's not appalling but I'd struggle to give it any compliments.

Some good bits, but I definitely lost interest mid-way through. All too samey.

Red dead T. Rex redemption. Second album but the icon T. Rex. I did not like Electric Warrior. Will The Slider change my mind in T. Rex? .... .... .... Nope. I felt that this album wasn't better nor worse. Just the same thing. Except there wasn't anything memorable about this record. Unlike Bang A Gong from Electric Wizard. This album in fact wins an award for the worst back up singing in a rock album. The one song that I didn't mind.. 'Chariot Choogle' has this cool riff that opens the song. It's pretty awesome. Maybe that riff is the memorable part. But there is back up singing that literally sounds like someone is strangling the Brothers' Gibb from The Bee Gees. All at once. Or maybe slowly burning them with fire. But God damn.. Does the back up singing ruin this song. It isn't even worth listening to. The guitar solo is weird and interesting but that whiney "awwwwwwwwwwwWWWWwwwwwwWWWW" from the back up singer ruins it. Then the last song... It's slow tempo with a nice voice but this shrill back up singer has to sing the same line as the singer... And just fuckin ruins it. Imagine having a song and then you ask a good friend to lay a track down... And then they give you this? And you feel bad... So you keep it but deep down, you just want to run a hot shower and sit crossed legged and cry. Because that's how I picture the aftermath of this. I would be so dissatisfied with it... More than I am right now. Perhaps this is purposely done this way. Which is probably true... And just reaffirms that T. Rex is Zero for Two to me! This isn't a 1/5... But it's a low 2. A cunt hair over 2. Should be a 1 though.. As T. Rex further disappointed me.

New album for me. British punk rock isn't my thing but glad I listened to it

Just not a fan of the overcooked vocals and incessant aaaaaaaaaaah backing vocals.

mostly ok, but boring

Didn't feel this one. Almost marked down to a 1

pretty bad

I just didn't really like it. Felt so samey, didn't really interest me at all. I love boomer rock, but this just drudged on.

Not my style, sounds a little like David Bowie.

I don't get it, sorry

Best Song: Buick McCane. I like the groove here. Worst Song: Spaceball Ricochet. The only thing worse than amateur scatting is when the notes that make of the scatting are just breathy exhales. Overall: Is glam rock the worst of all rocks? I struggle to think of a worse one. Everything is so cheesy, all the vocals sound like their sung through plastered-on smiles. Soulless music. Music performed by animatronics.

Boring

Hou op man!

That was actually pretty dull. I thought I'd like it since I've heard of them being a inspiration to a lot of later rock bands. Not sure if it's aged terribly but it seemed slow, simplistic, and simply not catchy. Metal Guru was the closest they came to being interested, but it turned it out to be a dropping off point rather than a jumping off point. Shame.

Depressing dirge and repetitive non sensible lyrics

I wish I liked more of this , probably at a 2.6

not for me i’m afraid

I do not care for glam rock. 2/5

One Bang a Gong song is enough for me; don’t need a whole album

Talk about a hair band! This guys got some serious lettuce!! All jokes aside, this album blows. I hate the kind of whiny vocal inflections and dad rock blah blah boring crappy cruddy. Rabbit fighter kinda cool ig….

Glam rock, nogle ok numre, ikke helt stilen

Particolare

Not really my thing. Glam rock always reminds me of being a really little kid. I probably liked it then, but I'm not six anymore. I think Metal Guru's been on a few playlists I've listed to - I always skip it. This dragged and I was glad when I had to go out of the room. I won't be listening to it again. It's not terrible as such, just a bit tedious.

I feel I should really like T. Rex but something never fully clicks.

It was alright, not really my thing but i could see why people would like it. Songs that stood out to me, Mystic Lady, The Slider

Hiervoor kregen we Robbie Williams voorgeschoteld.

Ah, so this is where Bowie got all his ideas! I don't know. This is harmless nonsense, mostly. Nothing compelling.

y. 5.5/10

I didn't know much about this band. This album, The Slider, was released in 1972 when quite a few other legendary rock bands were conquering the world. I enjoyed the song Mystic Lady, The Slider and Spaceball Ricochet. Groovy guitar. Rock On has a super poppy swing to it. Good album.

bored with it

Holy cow, third album this week produced by Bowie. I can tell, because this past week has been a lot of "meh” for me.

2.5. Totally just fine but kinda boring.

Second album by T.Rex on this list and once again I'm not sure what is so special about this band. Both albums are quite average with couple songs being entertaining and the rest went totally unnoticed. "Metal Guru" was quite a nice rock song with funny lyrics and catchy riffs. Unfortunately, soon after this song my mind started wandering anywhere else, just to dissociate from this record. Honestly, I felt like it was a waste of time, especially that the full album was very long. I was never a fan of Jurrasic Park.

Not my jam. Ended up feeling bored and the sound got monotonous by the end. Everything felt very repetitive and normally that’s not a problem for me but this one just didn’t juve with me. Dull but otherwise inoffensive.

1972 was a great year for music. This album is not specifically notable to me, but its' influence can be heard throughout the next 50 years of music, especially in English music

This sounds like every rock album ever, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Even with a personal affection towards 60's and 70's psychedelic I find it a bit difficult to see why The Slider is included in the list. Sure the songs are solid, but it's very much style over substance for the most parts. Songs like 'Rock On', 'The Slider', 'Baby Boomerang' and 'Buick Mackane' feel hollow. The second side is stronger with tracks like 'Rabbit Fighter' and 'Ballrooms of Mars' almost dragging this record into three-star territory.

Just sort of happened, nothing grabbed me.

didn't really have time to listen to properly. I listened to few of the first songs but didn't really fancy them

It’s fine, but it just feels like one long song besides a few tracks.

Ganz nett, aber auch nicht mehr..

Liked songs: Ballrooms of Mars Semi-whiny hippie music. Guy on the drum kit can't keep time. Too much grunting from the vocalist. 1.5/5

Expected more hits on this one

Pretty generic glam rock stuff. Not bad in any way, just emotionless and forgettable.

There are some cool songs here and there, but... Pretty basic rock. It's hard to believe that this artist had a huge success in the early 70s, surrounded by all the other rock legends there were at the time. Maybe I don't understand or it was really on show that the magic happened?

It's fun, playful. Something about the songs just sound same-y to me.

I lost interest in this one pretty quickly.

He is not bad, I didn't know this artist but It's not the music I heard.

I don't get it. Seems like generic glam rock. Nothing is bad, nothing really stands out.. I never know how to rate these, because they are immediately removed from my memory within a minute of the album ending. "Metal Guru" was probably my favorite song, "Ballroom of Mars" was oingy-boingy. I don't know what that means either but that's what I wrote down.

I wasn't expecting much and I didn't get much. Bolan was great as a pop star. Any Best Of knock off will serve you far better than his actual album back catalogue. This album plods with some very average musicianship. A drum machine could provide more soul. Ballrooms of Mars raised a little interest - a Division 2 Ziggy. I've given it two stars - one each for the outstanding two singles.

Oof. Sounds like a generic The Who/Led Zeppelin/David Bowie wannabe band that 20 years later grew up to become Guns & Roses. Half of the songs sound not just unpolished, but straight up unfinished. Almost juvenile. Halfway through the A-side I thought maybe the band were doing a parody, halfway through the B-side I was sure of it. But why would they parody Guns & Roses, which never even existed yet? This album's only redeeming features are the two singles, Metal Guru and Telegram Sam. The other songs range from forgettable to outright unpleasant. 2/5

all sounds to me

A bit disappointing overall, I liked Buick Mackane and Telegram Sam, but the rest is a bit flat and repetitive.

Metal guru is pretty good but the glam metal doesn't do much for me. Electric Warrior we did first was better

Always found T. Rex' music uninspiring. I suspect one needs to have lived through the period in order to absorb the alleged "glamour effect" the band's famous for.

It was okay but not my type of music and a little repetitive in spots. Zero recognized songs

“Undoubtedly sounds quite profound to 14-year-old ears.”

Thankfully I was exposed to Led Zeppelin as a child, and not this. I had to drag myself through to the end. Mushy, breathy, monotonous. Didn't add (no kidding).

Last week we got Electric Warrior, now we get its successor The Slider. I can't decide which one I dislike the most.

This is just a boring album. Songs all sound the same and are so simplistic. No good drumming, singing, or guitar play. Kind of disappointing. 4/10.

Pretty good. Ever heard it before.

kinda boring. not bad, but it's not the kind of music i'm interested in.

Exactly how I would expect a T Rex album to sound. Distinctively them, basically fine, but pretty samey. 2.5/5.

It was hard to listen at times.

It was okay. Kinda felt like a bunch of songs full of choruses. Stylistically pretty interesting. Like Bowie but not Bowie and slightly worse and less creative. Didn't blow me away. Average!

2/5 can't really say it thrilled me.

Not for me

Repetitive dross from Bolan. Too much hairspray and glitter fumes must have affected everyone in the seventies for this to be considered anything but music for 8 year olds. What someone thinks good rock sounds like when they have never actually listened to rock. Best Tracks: Metal Guru; Baby Boomerang; Telegram Sam

Absolutamente innecesario.

Glam rock eh? Nah, I'm alright thanks. Maybe next time.

Not sure I need another T-Rex album in my life

Hmm, wanted to like this but just wasn't feeling it! I like tunes like Solid Gold Easy Action but it wasn't on here ☹️ only a 2

Pretty together. Not a lot of ubiquity. All very the same. No bad songs, but nothing stand out.

Reminds me of Alice Cooper

Really didn't do anything for me. I even skipped a few songs.

not sold on their sound and didnt think any of the songs were very good

Started off bopping along to Metal Guru and thinking “yeah, I could really get into this”; four songs later I was still bopping along to Metal Guru thinking “Wow, Metal Guru is a very long and repetitive song.” What I’m saying is this sounded exactly the same all the way through - just as those critics of Southgate’s so-called conservative tactics sounded the same all the way through Euro 2020, even as England rolled on to the final, and ended up just a matter of inches away from winning the thing on penalties.

eh, wasn't that bad just didn't stand out to me at all

Normally I love t rex, but this is just not the best album I've heard from them. All the songs sound like "Life's a Gas" I honestly thought I'd like it more. I don't sense a lot of emotion or authenticity here. I guess I compare this to the electric warrior sessions and get disappointed. By 1972, this sound would have been dated. I don't understand this one.

All sounds the same. Just can’t get into them.

Less fun than I thought it would be. Fun Fact: Robert Plant's favourite tracks off this are Baby Boomerang and Baby Strange. I think we know why.

Ekasta raidasta vahvat Hanoi Rocks -vibat ja hyvää menoa. Jotenkin tasapaksuksi tykittelyksi jää kuitenkin loppu kokonaisuus.

Tää oli vähän tällainen köyhän miehen David Bowie. Mars-aihettakin löytyi levyltä ja pikagooglauksen perusteella Bowien Ziggy Stardust -levy julkaistiin reilua kuukautta ennen tätä. Selkeästi ollut avaruushommat tapetilla kuulaskeutumisen jäljiltä!

I have never listened to a T.Rex Album in full. Find it a bit ploddy. Not enough hooks and missing any of the hits. 2/5 as you can hear riffs that bands since have ripped off. But massively disappointing.

70's glam rock that isn't really for me. Some parts sounded vaguely familiar or reminiscent of other things, but mostly just weird.

“The Slider” by T. Rex (1972) Here is an album produced to please without requiring much of the listener. Sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered. Lyrically, we have common words and phrases nonchalantly sprinkled over melodies and rhythms as a sort of artless garnish. There’s no meaning here, no passion—nothing to think about (exception: “Ballrooms of Mars”. But don’t waste your time. It’s no big deal). The words are simply a delivery vehicle for the sound. And the sound is undoubtedly pleasing. Simple backing vocals and easy orchestral arrangements provide a comfortable texture. An occasional unexpected chord progression and time signature variation provide spice, but nothing that shocks the senses. It amounts to ‘easy listening’ pop/rock. Lead guitar riffs and solos are rather uninspired, but are well supported by a disciplined rhythm section. Lead vocal is interesting. Marc Nolan’s airy tenor completely lacks timbre or any sonorous quality, but he raises these weaknesses to an art form. Frequent mic pops reveal a voice with virtually no natural power. Seemingly obligatory ‘screams’ and ‘wails’ are laughably puny. Backing arrangements seem designed to compensate for this huge flaw. But it’s still entertaining, albeit with an occasional chuckle. Certainly not ‘bad’—almost ‘good’. Definitely not ‘very good’. I’m so torn. 2/5

This album seemed longer than it actually was.

I'm done with glam rock

I appreciate the album and the group for its role in 70s glam. It is not my type of rock, not as fast tempo as the songs I like most. Also, the album loses its flow half way despite starting strong. I loved telegram sam and a few riffs along with the string orchestration on a few tracks which was brilliant. Good album, but not exactly my taste.

Didn’t really stand out to me

this band.....what exactly did i listen to? i mean, the music is good, lyrics are kinda whatever, it just sounds so generic. honestly, i don't have a favorite song, and yeah, this album did NOT sell me on this band.

Somewhat negative reaction. I don't really like his voice and don't feel like the songs are particularly catchy, despite some interesting backing.

Not very good

Not bad but not great I guess. Distracted listening while work again. Maybe 1-2 songs.

Grungy

boring.

Never really cared for this.

I don’t like 70s rock, but spaceball ricochet was pretty good

Left me like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1Xd30B0f5A

Meh, guy didn’t do enough drugs to make a better album.

I think the world is far too kind to Bowie and the type of trash he brought into the world of music

Already the band's second album on this list, which adds up to two too many.
