Reviews (page 3 of 12)

Absolute blinder of an album, it never fails to make me happy.

I remember this album when it was super famous, but I only remember "Alright". The fact is that the whole album is wonderful, it totally deserves to be on this list.

Really good

I'd Like To Know is probably the best introduction to a debut album ever! This album surely is a tribute to their parent's recited collections. Frenetic fun from a band that was a step above the other Britpop purveyors.

Let me preface this review with a couple of facts that may have biased my listening experience today. First of all, I had half of a cup of coffee this morning, after being caffeine-free for at least a month. Also, I purchased some really awesome new Chaco's today. So, honestly, I was so giddy while listening that I may have given 90 minutes of a doorbell ringing a 5/5. Despite my anticipation that I would not be excited by this mid-90s Britpop album when it showed up, I really had fun listening to the album. It captured my interested from start to finish.

Catchy, punky Britpop that I found enjoyable to listen to. I recognized Alright immediately - great song! The whole album was fun to listen to. Really representative of the mid-90s. Filled with perfect soundtrack options here for your next 90s film. Definitely worth the listen! Favorites: Caught by the Fuzz, Alright, Strange Ones, She’s So Loose, Time, Sofa of my Lethargy

Otroligt bra??

Loved it

This is the only punk, britpop album that I like. 5

I vibed with it. I really liked the keys (as usual) in addition to the whole feel of the album. A few of the songs felt like misses to me, but the rest of the songs more than made up for those. Every song felt unique, and I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Favorite track: Alright

A classic

Really good and very British

I really like Brit-pop and this has got to be one of the most energetic and fun albums in the genre.

most underrated britpop album

every single song on this fucking slapped. makes me want to cruise around the english coast with the lads

Loved this one. Start to finish. A great blend of ‘90s Brit-Pop and Garage.

i don't know what it is about this album, i just LOVE it. it's not even like a quintessential masterpiece, it's just fun, upbeat, and charming. makes me happy.

Really great. This album helps to salvage my opinion of 90s rock music. Kinda like punk/pop punk at times, except they are actually good at their instruments and can write songs that involve more than just four basic-ass barre chords. Side question: why is UK rock music astronomically better than US rock music? I grew up in the wrong country

Biased, but I love this album.

I can totally see this being a defining album of modern Britpop. See a lot of inspiration for libertines courteneers etc

This album is so great! I think I've heard most of these songs individually in other contexts, but had never listened to this entire album before. I can't believe it's as old as it is.

Britpop gem.

13. I should Coco - Supergrass - 13 Tracks. I like Supergrass so am biased, but this is an album where strength of big tracks isn't diminished by relative weakness of others. It's a proper album. Listen to it soon! I'm about to play it again right now. 5/5.

The perfect energy booster.

Good fun. Nice mix of punk, Indie and 60s hippy. Did I have Man Sized Rooster in tape 25 years ago..?

This is some fantastic brit-punk. 'Alright' fits in easily with the later sounds of the early 2000's pop-punk / indie-pop from the likes of Fun! and MGMT. Lenny is a song that plays harder, heavier. Strange Ones fluctuates through different tempo changes, not really sitting still in a completely different way than Sitting up Straight, which blasts through its run time at a breakneck pace. By the time Sofa (Of My Lethargy) comes around, we've entered a grand psychedelic sprawl. Overall, a tight record, with excellent production, instrumentation, and track layout.

Aaaaaaaaaaahg

love it Gaz Coombes reminds me of late great Jay Reatard. I knew of the song "Alright" But its rad to hear the other jams too.

This was great! I need more Supergrass in my life!

Another great find in this list. Loved it.

Familiarity: 0/10 Notes: wow. Did not expect to love this album so much. Split finely between 90s britpunk and a jammed out exploration bordering Beatles territory, I Should Coco is an incredibly well put together album that continued to exceed my expectations one track after the other all the way through to the end. Real Rating: 8.5/10

Love this album. There were a few songs I knew from hearing before but the whole album was solid. A few slightly annoying bits but it's an album with a distinct sound and feel.

Great brit pop/rock ALLLLLRIGHT

Nice one! Very much like "Strange Ones" and "Mansize Rooster". Will have to listen to this more, but seems very influential on the entire 90s brit rock scene.

Damn good record. I love Supergrass

Actually really good! I kind of guessed it would be a 90s power pop/alt rock scenario, but I didn't expect that I would like it so much. Fuzzy, and feels like it's wearing a massive grin the entire time. Favorite tracks: "Lose It", "Time", "Sofa of My Lethargy"

4 1/4 stars

Some pretty good brit pop/ alt rock for a debut album from a bunch of teenagers. They keep the style shifting around from a frantic train out of control to more garage grunge to slow deep rock sounds that its interesting the whole way through. They also throw in lots of song transitions which helps the album flow smoothly. I only knew Alright from before this and didn't recognize the bad name but I thought they put out some really good tracks and proved their chops.

I have always liked Supergrass after seeing them open for Pearl Jam in 2001 or so. They get lumped into Britpop but I think they just write some great catchy songs. This one is not an exception. I had never heard it and I think Caught by the Fuzz is great. I can relate to it. It a funny and fun song. Alright is just pure pop bliss but all these songs rock. They are just good songwriters and players this is a good album and I’m glad it’s on the list. I would never had heard it

I think I liked it can’t remember

Solid 90s britpop album, a lot of energy especially in early songs but I think it shines more in the slower sections. 3.5/5 stars

I’d like to know : 9/10 Caught by the fuzz : 7/10 Mansize rooster : 9/10 Alright : 9/10 Lose it : 9/10 Lenny : 8/10 Strange ones : 6/10 Sitting up straight : 9/10 She’s so loose : 5/10 We’re not supposed to : 6/10 Time : 9/10 Sofa : 9/10 Time to go : 9/10

A solid Brit pop album, I was already familiar with their biggest hit “alright”, this album has aged really well, but I feel like it’s missing something which leaves this with a solid 4 stars

Why is In It For the Money on this list? I got that album before this one and it did not leave much impression on me besides thinking Supergrass are kinda mid. However, I had a totally different reaction to this album and really liked it. Supercross aren't mid, I was just listening to the wrong album. Favorite Track - Alright Least Favorite Track - We're Not Supposed To ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fornøyelig album, litt beatlesesque og bare good vibes. Må ha vært et enormt bra liveband i sin tid. Heia britpop

Fits right in the period and was going under the radar but is a really great album.

Not bad. "Alright" was a blast from the past I had forgotten about. This, I think, is a record that if you loved that single, you'd probably be very happy with the rest of the album. For me it's not quite a 4, but it's better than your typical 3, so I'll give it the benefit.

Better than I remember at the time it came out

Very fun alternative/punk-infused Britpop. Nothing mind-blowing but fun to listen to all the way through.

Love it

The band that evolved the madchester scene into the late 90s. Good fun, good tunes. Lenny is an absolute banger

What a great surprise this was. I knew Supergrass were considered by many an “underrated” Brit-Pop band on the 90s and this album puts me firmly in that camp, it was a fantastic listen.

Quite a gun bright sound, I enjoyed

So british

Loved this one. It sounds like all different eras of music are coming together. It's timeless!

propulsive and fun!

There was a lot to like here. The album isn't perfect or even close, but it's human and isn't afraid of what it is.

I like britpop what can I say? I really don't get all the fuss about it. I guess I have only heard the most popular so far, but still, this is great stuff. Alright comes out of nowhere. It sounds nothing like the rest of the album but is the only one I knew before. I will definitely be revisiting this.

Two Supergrass albums on the list maybe feels like one too many, but it's hard to argue against the energy and fun here, and they were still pretty much kids when they made it. Great live back in the day too.

Never heard of them, but liked them a lot. Had a lot of energy.

didn't like every song, but overall really nice

A kind of goofy, tongue-in-cheek image and a kind of goofy best-known single - Alright - does I Should Coco a huge disservice. Supergrass were, somewhat unfortunately, cast as the cheeky chappy, Cockney knees-up clown princes of Britpop, when their debut long-player is a mature and fully-realised mash up of punk and psychedelic pop. I Should Coco is light-hearted without being lightweight, displaying a genuine feel for melody and well-deployed arrangements, resulting in a big sound for a youthful trio. Sofa (Of My Lethargy) is an absolute pop-psych gem amongst a selection of spiky, energetic offerings which are equally effective, if a little more "of their time". Much more than Britpop also-rans.

We are young we run free

chewsday innit

Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 2/5

Fun listen for sure. Very 90’s. Probably sounds even better with crisp cold Zima. 4.5⭐️

Spent half the runtime reading about Cockney rhyming slang on Wikipedia. I NOW know why Brick Top tells that one kid he's gonna cut off his 'Jacobs' in the cinematic masterpiece Snatch. But anyway........this is way better than "Only It For the Money". Not sure if I was just in a bad mood that day, or that this seems a bit more punkish than Britpop-ish, but I really liked this one.

Surprised I've never listened to this album. Has a similar feel to other 90s pop bands like "Weezer" and "Presidents of the United States of America". A good rock album.

muy bacano la vdd

so fun!

Damn fine alternative brit pop that doesn't sound too dated with mostly lean 2-3 minute tracks. Now, that's what I'm talking about!

Heck yeah. I love these guys. This album is great, but my favorite album of theirs is In It For The Money. Their other albums are also pretty solid. I saw them in concert back in 2003ish on their tour for Life On Other Planets and that was a great show.

Fun! I knew Alright and maybe a couple others, but the whole thing was a good time.

Labai užvedantis albumas.

Love the song Alright and the rest of the album does not disappoint

Solid album. Dont know if i would listen to it of my own volition but i enjoyed a lot of the songs. Long term fan of the song alright and also really liked the first song, id like to know

super fun listen!

A surprisingly good English indie rock record. Wasn’t super excited to start, but there’s some pretty great grooves, production, and songwriting here. Will probably listen again.

Really enjoyed my time here, especially with the harder tracks like the run of “Lose It,” “Lenny,” and “Strange Ones,” some great bass lines in there. Didn’t enjoy myself with the slower, more poppy tracks like “Alright,” and the run from “We’re Not Supposed To,” “Time,” and “Sofa (of My Lethargy)”. Closer to a 4,5

I enjoyed this album. I liked their sound and their style. Fun!

A little less pop and a lot more Brit than most of the other Britpop bands of the time. Definitely a harder edge. Some throwbacks to the punk forefathers but I also hear some David Bowie influence.

Easy to put into your pipe and smoke. Noisy and psychedelic, but also no-frills and raucous like all the best Stones albums are. What a winner, hooks on hooks and riffs on riffs.

Way better than I thought! Some good tunes on there. It's got a really kinetic energy without sounding sloppy which so many other groups fail at. Decent variety too. I'm definitely checking out some of their other stuff.

Overall, a great sounding album. My only gripe is that a lot of the songs kind of sound the same or have the same vibe to it and that’s something I hate albums. I need variety in my music.

Solid album full of high energy songs that switch it up quite a bit. You could tell they really enjoyed making this.

v fun, high energy record. i am def guilty of only knowing "alright" from a car commercial or something but it isn't even the standout track of this album imo. i can see myself returning to most of these songs, particularly the first 2/3 of this album. i'd give it a 4.5 if i could, but i can't in good conscience give this a 5 for the rancid minion voice song. fav: lose it

This was fun! Also led to This Indecision, McRad, which I liked, too.

fiyahhh

I have always thought "Alright" was pop-rock perfection (shout out to the "Clueless" soundtrack) and I was glad to discover that the rest of the album is, while not as good as that, enjoyable basically throughout. Just kids in their early 20's making fast, somewhat loud, fun, silly pop music for people to bob their heads to and have a good time. No concerns about sticking to one genre or sound; no fear of experimenting even when those experiments don't work; just trying out different things and seeing what happens. This is probably an album that only a bunch of kids this age could make, and I am glad that they did.

I hate listening to things i would've loved as a teen, i still really enjoyed it though! Very great britpop :p

Solid 4

It was overall a solid album. It wasn't my cup of tea, necessarily. I added a few of the songs to my 'liked' songs.

A fun album with pop punk inspiration that mellows out towards the end. Maybe feels a little incohesive, but many catchy singles!

good brit pop. this has that 95 sound. like space hog

Every song a surprise on this one, not the least of which being Alright. I had definitely heard this on some commercial at some point and never thought "there's a band that made this, and maybe they have an album with other music on it." I was listening to other bands of the style at the time, so I'm not sure how this one escaped me. I don't think there was anything on the album I disliked, and there were certainly a majority of song I liked, especially as the album progressed. I was quite impressed with a lot of the structural elements/changes throughout the songs, which made this group of teens seem far more mature songwriters than many (or most) of their peers. ⭐⭐⭐.51?

every song was great and the whole album was consistent, though i feel like it didnt have any tracks that stood out. that being said, it was great nonetheless

Thank god this is playable on stereo and mono equipment. This is a fuckin banger holy

What a great album. Great energy, great composition. The tightness and almost conceptual approach of the full record, awesome!

Jäkligt fin britpop/indie! Gillar detta. Får nästan bli en 4:a.

Good craic. I've never heard this album before, and it's more varied than I thought it would be, given the singles which were released.

There is more supergrass on this list? Luckily this is way better than the other one. Fun little rockin tunes that can be listened to whenever. Nothing groundbreaking on here but I did really enjoy every song on here. It's a high four and I could see it creeping up to 5 if I find myself coming back to it.

pretty fun

i’m intooo this. i like alright, lose it, strange ones, time to go annnd she’s so loose is one of my fave new (to me) tracks i’ve heard in a while

An interesting one on the punkier end of Britpop. Songs in the first half especially have a lively sound that captures your attention, I’d Like to Know and Caught by the Fuzz my highlights. Alright is the most known song, but to me it’s a title that matches the description. It’s a good listen, but the album overall probably doesn’t hit the heights of the opening songs.

A really good album. Going into this I was only familiar with the track ‘Alright’ which as it turns out is markedly different from much of the rest of the album! Much of the album is quite punky but combined with memorable pop melodies, a combination that’s right up my street.

Having only previously heard the monster hit ‘Alright’ I was surprised to find that song is quite an outlier from most of this album, which largely has a strong garage rock/punky feel. This is established right from the great opening one-two punch of ‘I’d Like to Know’ and ‘Caught by the Fuzz’. But there’s stylistic variety here too. Apart from ‘Alright’ there’s also ‘Mansize Rooster’ which sounds a bit Kinks-inspired to me, the bluesy rock ballad ‘Time’, and the psychedelic jam ‘Sofa of My Lethargy’, among others. This album has an irresistible energy and positive vibe. Solid 4 stars.

Alright is one of those songs I’ve heard dozens of times but had no idea who it was by. Fun album, tail end dragged a bit Also have listened to Gaz Coombs music before but didn’t know anything about him, neat!

# Playlist Track - Alright # Notes - Didn't expect much, but this is a SOLID album. It's fun pretty much all the way. Didn't skip any tracks in the couple of times I've listened to it.

This was fun. The list has made me weary of random Brit bands but this is what great 90s music was about. Irreverance, sick guitar slaying, lyrics about not giving a fuck.

That was fun. I was vaguely aware of these guys but hadn't actually heard any of their music as far as I know. I think the Brits make some of the best eclectic, genre hopping music, and this was no exception. Quirky punk extractions with shades of Britpop, indie rock, and healthy doses of cockney cheek. I'm gonna go 4/5 on this.

The Monkees on steroids... awesome. Best: Strange Ones/Sitting up Straight Worst: We're Not Supposed To

1. "Alright" 2. "Mansize Rooster" 3. "She's So Loose"

Pues oye, bastante guay.

Simple, straight and honest. Liked it.

Nice late-punk album, it gets more interesting as goes ahead from punk. Well played, good voices. Enjoyable.

4 for that one hit! so good

Me gustó mucho, mucha onda

TEENAGE MOMENT!!! O álbum I Should Coco me lembra meus bons momentos de adolescente, a frenesi, a energia, a rapida melancolia e a energia juvenil. Minhas favoritas além da citada anteriormente foram "Caught by the Fuzz" (que experiência hein, Gaz? kkkjjk) "Mansize Rooster" "Time" e "Time to Go" (que achei bem vibes Beatles).

Really enjoyable! I’ll definitely come back to this one

I honestly had no idea who Supergrass was, but when I heard some of the singles on this album, I immediately recognized them. It's always interesting to me when I "know" a band, but have no idea who they are. Honestly, really good album. Worth additional listens.

Favourite Songs: I Want To Know Mansize Rooster She's So Loose

Straight out of the blocks with the frantic ‘I’d like to know ‘ into the magnificent ‘caught by the fuzz’ which was definitely a bit of an Anthem with mr and my mates when living in London mid nineties. Mansized rooster sounds like a bit of a 60s throwback leading into the timeless Alright . This one has had a tic toc resurgence and sounds as fresh as it did in the nineties . That is a very strong 4 song opening stretch. The rest of the album is good with lots of sixties and seventies vibes ( Lenny is a stomper) and strange ones is a bit Doors like which I enjoy. Super fun album from the Brit pop era. I personally prefer a bit more depth in lyrics and mood ( pulp, suede) but this one deserves 4/5 stars

God I love Britpop They really ate with Alright and I'm happy I got to listen to the rest of the album

I enjoyed this one more than I was expecting. Sure it's Britpop, and not even particularly noteworthy Britpop, but there's a sort of youthful energy to it that makes it feel very uplifting and joyous, even without factoring in the lyrics. Quick and to the point songs with no extra fat. What more could I ask for? Key tracks: Caught by the Fuzz Mansize Rooster Alright

Has a classic feel to it, but with that 90s sharpness

An energetic romp

What an energy!

Really good, snotty Britpop. I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to listen to more.

Really good album, didn’t realise there was a song in here that I know quite well. Fun alt rock songs done well.

Really surprised by this one, surprised I haven't listened to them before.

A great debut band that I was lucky to have seen at the Bath Moles gig that you can find on the Super Deluxe of this album. Lots of great Indie pop from these emerging youngsters

Fantastic! Guitar driven British power pop in the tradition of The Who. One of the best of the 90s BritPop wave. 4.5 I have to save my 5 star ratings for perfect albums, but this is close.

Noisy but good

really really good. one of the best album debut if you ask me

4.1/4.2 Banging Brit pop. Caught by the fuzz was my personal favourite.

Really liked this and is a strange blind spot in my music taste. Gonna look at more from them for sure.

Completely new to me and really enjoyed it.

Surprised how much I like this! Alright is still a bit of an annoying song, but I’ve always liked Caught By The Fuzz, and the rest of the album was much better than I expected - Sofa (Of My Lethargy) in particular was great.

After yesterday’s complete ASSterclass this album was a breath of fresh air. It made my ears quite happy, I mean how can you mad when Alright comes on?

a very enjoyable britpop album that starts out bangin' and leaves with a feeling of sweets on a chewsday. (first time being british how'd i do?) favorite song: I'd Like To Know least favorite: We're Not Supposed To

I knew the album cover because I've listened to Alright quite a lot as I'm sure most people have. Some of the songs had a pop-punk-y charm to them like "Caught by the fuzz" which I appreciated. Some of the also songs tended to get kinda weird and not in a good way or to my taste. "Alright" seems like a totally different style than all the other tracks so it really stands out, also it's really good. I wish I could give 3.5

This is a fun anf energetic debut album.  I like In It For The Money a bit more, but it's still a solid album with two great singles.  How many ads has Alright appeared on around the world? Liked Songs Added: Caught By The Fuzz Alright She's So Loose Time

This is a tight, energetic, rockin set

I was only familiar with a couple of Supergrass tracks, so I was looking forward to listening to an entire album. It definitely met my expectations, I liked this a lot. I love how relentlessly energetic it is throughout, while also having a lot of fun switch-ups. There are a couple of low points here and there, but nothing too egregious. The mixing also deserves praise, it isn't as compressed as you would expect it to be given its loudness and the time and place it was released. Favourite track: Caught by the Fuzz

One of the few 90s bands that cited punk as an influence and actually sounded like it, at least on this record. Caught by the Fuzz / Mansize Rooster / Alright is a great run of tunes.

A fun album. Lots of energy. 4 stars. Fave track - we’re alright

This was excellent. Offspring crossed with the Beatles. Musically and vocally excellent.

absolutely stellar album if it wasn't for the last four tracks

Really like this, punky and vital, lots of fun

Liked: I'd Like To Know, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Strange Ones, Sofa (Of My Lethargy) Added: I'd Like To Know, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Strange Ones, Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

(Het staat voor 'I should think so'.) 3.5 ster.

"Alright" is a great song, but I could not have come up with the band's name. I like the energy of the album, especially "Sitting Up Straight."

Really good stuff! Seeing the band name I was expecting some horrid stomp-clap-shout garbage and was pleasantly surprise to hear frenetic guitar rock instead. worthy of repeat listens.

One of my fav albums of the 90s and possibly one of the best debuts in that era too. Great catchy songs that have stuck with me over the years. Maybe sounds a teeny bit dated now but still incredible

I had never heard of this band or this album before, so I'm surprised at how much I loved this. Super high energy and endlessly catchy all throughout with only one song that I can say I didn't fully enjoy. Alright is the clear standout here for me, I had actually heard that somewhere before but had never actually known the name of it until now which is a mistake on my part because it is a genuinely fantastic song. Every other track here though is also very good though, with the exception of We're Not Supposed To, which tbf, doesn't sound like it was made with the intention of being taken seriously anyway. Overall though, this was a surprisingly great album that really took me by surprise. Idk if I'll check out anything else from this band but I'll definitely be returning to this a lot. Fav Songs: Alright, I'd Like To Know, Mansize Rooster, Lose It Least Fav: We're Not Supposed To 8.8/10

I can't believe I never knew this band existed!! They are the perfect transition piece between 60s brit-rock bands like the Kinks with the subsequent neo-classic-rock phase like JET. They were about 10 years ahead of their time! Catchy songs, fun music videos, and fun music. Thoroughly enjoyed.

I never heard of this band however I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a very big and pleasant surprise.

Pretty good! A solid album, not really revolutionary but solid for British music. "Alright" is iconic.

fun album :)

This is another criminally under-listened-to album. I forgot how much I love this album and genuinely can’t remember the last time I listened to it. Supergrass are definitely underrated.

listening.

Better than I remembered.

Very fun! This album is a joy to listen to but also so far from being background music that it’s mildly tiring. It feels like looking into those weird funhouse circus mirrors. I don’t know if this album is as technically good as some other ones here but it’s so exhilarating and catchy that I wanted to rate it high 🙂‍↕️ Fav songs: I’d like to know, alright, strange ones

Another album that came out the year I was born. Always a pleasant surprise. Only bangers so far from 1995 and this is no exception. British Rock/Pop is a very mixed bag with this project, because it seems like every other day on here I inevitably roll some forgettable album that ended up being pretty big in the UK but nowhere else. They’re not all bad, but I’ve been pretty disappointed with a lot of them. Some of them were even pretty highly rated on this site. While I Should Coco by Supergrass, the debut album by a bunch of actual children, 2 of them literally being 18 years old when this was being created, didn’t chart in the USA, the song “Alright” certainly left its mark. I’ve heard that song in various shows and commercials up to the point that I recognized it pretty instantly when it played for the first time. The funny part about it is that, although it’s still a certified banger, I actually like 3 of the songs I’d never heard before better. All that is to say that this album is really, really good. Historically, it caught on overseas because it gave UK kids a very powerful voice, and man does it ever. This album is filled with freedom, youth, hope, and various other positive feelings that I think we’d all like to feel more of in the big 2026. As unlikely as that is, this album really made me happy, and I almost want to give it a 5. Love the singer, love the guitar playing, and to create this album at such a young age is such an impressive feat that helps push this album even further in a great direction. You could tell me this came out today and I’d believe you. It hasn’t really aged a day, if anything it’s better than what’s currently coming out. Now I simply have to hear these guys live today and see what they’re currently up to, it looks like they still tour occasionally. Good for them. My favorite songs on this album, all of which were added to my usual rotation are “I’d Like to Know”, “Strange Ones”, and my favorite of the bunch, “Lose It”. My only criticism with this album is one that is very common. The bottom half kind of loses me a bit. First half is a 10/10, second half is like an 8/10. Still good but not 5 worthy. But man is it close. It was really difficult picking a rating this time. I Should Coco, which is apparently slang for “I should think so”, not entirely sure how, really surprised me. This is one of those albums that I started this project to hear. Will certainly return to this album, and there’s a second one on here that I’m going to wait until rolling to enjoy for the first time, as I usually do. Add this to the ever growing list of albums I might adjust to a 5 later. That’s how much I enjoyed it. Fantastic stuff here!!

This is why I like this list. Totally new to me. This was great!

Alright is a phenomenal song.

This prompted a discussion with by husband on how UK pop was about a decade ahead of US pop because this sounds like it came out of 2005.

Hell yeah. I always have a soft spot for Supergrass.

Underrated Britpop band and a solid album

Really good album - hard to decide between 4 and 5 - hits great - errred on side of a 4, but very much a 8.5/9 out of 10

It's alright

I never imagined I’d see 1 Supergrass album on this list, let alone 2. That seems a bit odd since Supergrass are basically PBS to other Brit rock bands, them being the big TV channels. Yes, Supergrass are basic to me. Try to convince me oh holy Supergrass album I’m listening to. Convincing under way I guess. Two songs doesn’t mean much but their big album in the early 2000’s perhaps failed to impress me more than this one has. Ok ok fine, this deserves a listen, do I have any big take away from it? No but it’s defiantly listenable. No huge standout tracks but their big album songs just fit well together to make this a better than mid album. Choice cut: Mansize Rooster

A lot of really cool songs, but I'm so sick of hearing Alright, I'm going to be real with you.

7/10 Favorite: Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

alright, good one. well presented, well executed. i really liked the lyrics, genuine. i'm a bit suspect 'cause i love british 90s rock, but still. this is friendly enough to be pleasant but cool on the other side without losing the grip of the proposition. this is literally the sound you hear 2000s indie rock bands doing, but less polished. i liked how in tracks like "lose it" they play with the vocal production choices—from the beginning scream to the vocalist. the track "alright" is truly the best choice for a single: ironic, easy to sing along, and relatable enough without being too obvious. i truly liked it. the type of thing i would play at a party.

Review - much better than I expected! I thought they were just a 60s revival britpop also-ran, but the music's much more eclectic and punky than I expected. Had also never noticed how similar Ty Segalls's vocal delivery is to this band but now I can't unhear it. I think they're both trying to do an impression of Ray Davies. Rating - 8/10 Need to hear? YES

Really good album. Even better knowing it was their debut. Wish I'd known more about Supergrass in the 90's. I really liked the first song "I'd like to Know" and the pace of the album.

This the type of music I would want to hear at a basement venue. Just good vibes and good music. Fun stuff. 4/5

Very good indeed. The jokey songs get a bit irritating but there's also some real hidden depths. Outstanding drumming. Three stay of something great, and a fab teenage musical diary

These guys always made me smile. I loved the cheeky way they seemed to be having an absolute blast. The hits are great and the other tracks are solid.

Nothing but reckless energy. And great songs. Favourite tracks: Caught By The Fuzz, Alright (one of those songs which has transcended to the monoculture and I'm bloody pleased about it), Strange Ones, Sofa Of My Lethargy (one of my very favourite songs at 17!)

super good example of brit pop, really fun to listen to

I really like how fast-paced and and high energy the songs on the album are, and how soothing and relaxing the songs with guitars are. I feels like a well rounded rock album.

Conocía alguna canción pero me ha sorprendido gratamente el disco en general Empieza con fuerza con I'd like to know

Fun British pop punk band from the 90s that I never heard of before! Any ‘70’s - ‘80’s Ramones fan would like this group.

Had never heard of this band before. Was lukewarm toward the lead singer on the first pass but really enjoyed the instrumentation. Warmed up to the vocals on my second visit.

Appropriately wear their influences on their sleeves and throw out a few surprises.

Most of the album was rollicking good fun. Best song: "Alright" and I really liked, "Time To Go" too. Worst song: "Lose It"

Another 8/10! Generalmente un album muy divertido. Me gusta mucho su sonido, upbeat, in your face, genuine Anteriormente habia escuchado Caught by the Fuzz y Alright, que es muy famosa, y ambas me siguen gustando mucho, pero mi fave se la doy a Sitting Up Straight, musicalmente muy interesante. Honorable mention a Time, no me esperaba un Blues song

Reipasta rock-musaa. Hyvä levy vaikka kansikuva on aivan karmea.

Another review probably clouded by nostalgia as I went to see them tour this album at the Hacienda in Manchester in 1995. My mate fell asleep on a speaker (in was a 10k sound system as well...) but I stayed awake to appreciate the mix of indie anthems and slightly more punky pop tunes. Gaz Coombs was only 19 at the time.....

A pretty good album. I enjoyed hearing it again

Album Review 074 I Should Coco by Supergrass (1995) Rating 4.5/5 Supergrass were the weird kid at school, the one who saw things differently to everyone else and got by just doing their own stuff but had a unique charm and innocence once you got to know them. If there is one underlying theme on I Should Coco, it’s them saying “Yeah, we’re a bit different but that’s cool. Let’s be friends” and 30-years on, the world needs this message more than ever. Musically, some tracks are hyperactive and full of energy, others are softer and more reflective but it’s all pretty simple and there isn’t a bad song here. I loved this album when it first came out and I still adore it now, it feels like a group hug and makes me all sunshiney.

It was hard to avoid Supergrass when Alright burst into the charts, they were right place, right time for the Britpop / Indie rock explosion. This album is energetic, vibrant, fun and varied with plenty of quirks. I would probably say that some of my favourite Supergrass songs come later but this was the album I knew best.

The sound of reckless abandon in the summer of 95!

Basically everything is more fun if it's punk, and Britpop is no exception. This is a blast - tails off a little in the second half, but boy is that a strong side 1

I liked the mild punk vibes!

Only know the band from their hits, one or two of which are on here. Really like the very British flavour of this album. Kinks meets Buzzcocks via Bowie/Bolan and the Stones. Good stuff. 4

Energetic, and not boring, which is the only thing one can hope in the endless sea of acoustic and/or indie boring shit that pops up on this list.

This is pretty good. Nothing is sticking out in particular on my first listen, but maybe I'll listen more and some of it will grow on me. Sweet bass tone and the songs are well written and mixed. Pleasant listening experience, if a little bit of a blur (no, it's not Blur, it's Supergrass!).

4.5 Super fun britpop high energy. While the album cover is absolutely atrocious, the music is jammin

The distillation of what seems to be every dominant rock/pop style from the UK over the course of about 30 years into a 40 minute listen (you can hear Kinks, Queen, the glam side of Bowie). Pretty admirable effort, but after getting another Britpop album yesterday, I might be just a bit tired of the genre already. If you're gonna send this stuff my way, give me Suede at least.

Did I enjoy this? I should coco!

In my mind Supergrass are a bit of a modern day Monkees, which may not be entirely fair and on re-listening to this album for the first time in a long time it still is a great piece of indie guitar pop. It is hard not to get sucked into Caught by the Fuzz, at the time Alright felt to be on absolutely everywhere and got a bit annoying but it is a great, if throwaway, pop tune. A bit of a wander down memory lane that was perfectly good company. They sound like they were having a ball too.

Recomendable.

Just classic Britpop!

Not a strong start, but I ended up liking this much more than I expected. Classic 90s alt style.

2/12/26. Another gem from this era of music I have stumbled upon! I know Britpop is a media term, but it's hard not to compare to other bands from this scene, like Blur and Oasis. Thought the songwriting was strong and loved the different dynamics throughout.

The album starts with so much energy that by the time it peters out at the end, you don't mind quite so much as you're also exhausted.

Catchy uptempo Brittpop, fun to listen to.

Been a long time since I listened to this and I'm glad I did. Like a musical history tour quoting the Overture from Tommy in the opener, Beatles- influenced guitar and harmony influences, and a sprinkling of punk just to spice it up. But it never feels derivative (Gallagher, wake up at the back of the class). For a bunch of teenagers they did an impressive amount of homework. 4*

qcho que 4 estrelas

This whole album was solid! I recognized Alright instantly (didn’t realize how old it was), but then I started to fear that this was a one hit wonder album. Turns out that’s not the case.

This is a very energetic and catchy album. It won me over pretty quickly and is one of the more surprising albums that I'd never heard of. I've heard that one song because it's on commercials and all over all the time, but that was not one of the better songs.

Great album. Good songs well played. I've always thought Supergrass are criminally underrated.

Fresh as a daisy. Great songwriting and playing. Side 2 drags compared to superlative side 1

Great album! Great band! Like the British killers or something very good though!

12 hours later, Alright is still stuck in my head.

Loud and in your face. Thought I would enjoy this more.

This is what an album should be, thematically cohesive, picked out, curated, banger after banger.

great album - particularly obsessed with She's So Loose, couldn't turn it off all day

Starting out it has white stripes vibes

lively and fun and I recommend playing it loud first thing in the morning like I did

I was surprised I was familiar with the song Alright, I had never heard of this group before. I was busy working and didn't notice the album ended, and Spotify started playing other songs by the group. I just let it keep playing.

Have heard "Alright" but could not tell you the name of the band.

It's unique and fun! Takeaways: "Alright"

First album that I am not familiar with the artist at all! Maybe I'll know some of the songs. I decided to look at the Wikipedia article about the group before I begin listening, and I found out that this is their debut album, and the name of the album is actually cockney slang, which has always been a weird niche topic I've been interested in. Looks like this album never gained traction in the US, so it's possible I have not heard any of their music until now. Looks like they may have broken into US markets a little bit around 2000 based on their awards, so maybe I've heard their later albums. OK, listening has commenced. And I do know their music! Really, I only know one track. They have a typical 90s rock band vocals-guitar-bass-drums sound that I loved during that period (I guess also keyboards, but I haven't noticed it yet), but less melancholy than the Seattle music I loved. While they are definitely a rock band, I hear a little bit of pop in their style as well. OK, after an initial listen-through, this album has very few skip tracks. It's pretty great. Reminds me of a lot of the indie music I was into when I was in high school. I wish I had discovered them back then. I probably would have played them on repeat, honestly. Not a perfect album, but the majority of songs are bangers, especially the second half of the album. My favorite track is probably Strange Ones, which features changing tempos throughout. Very happy to have found a new music group to listen to! 4/5 stars.

Alright is a banger, like the upbeat vibe of the rest but nothing special. Specific rating - 4.1 Fav song - alright Least fav - we’re not supposed to

I liked the energy and the variety.

Bravo

honestly fuck yeah. it's got this scott pilgrim sex bob-omb garage punk fuzz with a little more british tweed to it. there's a decent level of pop appeal throughout, and they mix things up enough to not get dull. I'd Like to Know is a stellar opener, but Time is probably my favorite track

This album was a joy - interesting and great and a fun time. Interesting in a "lets all be creative and produce a banger of an album" kind of way 8.1/10

Plenty to digest here. Adjusting for the 1001 review scale, 8 ⚖️ out of 10 lizard wizards

I thought this was very good - catchy tunes, high energy, overall good britpop. People have noted that they can hear inspiration from the Kinks and Supertram in this, which I can totally see (and I love both of those bands so it’s a good sign for me). Would listen again.

Great album - the memories of the time came flooding back!

Great debut album, by and large short sharp songs with only one or two that feel a little filler. 4

I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Never liked Alright back when it came out and dismissed the album as I thought it would all sound like that. There's lots of energy here though and a bit of edge to some of the songs. Really well crafted. A bit twee at points but overall really enjoyable and I feel like I may have done them a disservice all these years.

Should I Coco?

I’m sticking with the bread theme today so this is an olive and cheese loaf. Tasty, a little different, and great for a summer picnic

I liked this one more than I thought I would. I liked the "have fun" attitude

ayyy i thought supergrass were like an indie pop thing, this is a nice surprise! I *despise* britpop as a genre and as a movement and, while supergrass flirts with it, this has some snotty fuckin swagger to it in the front half but falls off toward the end imo alright - fuckin' hell this blindsided me like California Dreamin' by The Mamas & The Papas did! An absolute British zeitgeist belter of a tune, you'll hear bits of this at weddings, funerals, football games, pubs, just a splinter in the thumb of British culture (not a complaint) lenny - absolutely stank facing it, snare tone is great, can't get over this bass & drum intro holy shit, loud and in your face, fantastic punk track strange ones - every fucker needs a home is where i stand politically. a blasting, grandiose wall of sound with some big stomps, big smiles from me sitting up straight - goddamn this is so good, the energy is unbelievable, the whiplash from the piano intro to the 70s cop drama guitar riff, the music feels like it wants to burst out, makes me want to punch myself in the face, favourite track so far she's so loose - weakest track we're not supposed to - supergrass couldn't have predicted the popularity of the minions from the hit movie despicable me and I wouldn't be surprised if this track inspired that time - a real driving bass and drums throughout with a real consistent riff, gives a lot of space for the vocals and guitar (and keys) to wander around. not usually my bag but really enjoyed this, very abrupt ending which diminishes the track as a whole imo 4.25

An album I'm glad I've listened to before I die. Alright is one of those songs I've always loved, but didn't know who sang it, and had almost forgotten it's existence until by surprise it came up on this album! For finding that song again, I'm grateful.

Upbeat and fun, which was great. That said, I think I enjoyed the second half of the album a bit more, which is a bit more midtempo and varied.

Fun High energy, liked the first song

A charming album with a lot of personality. An enjoyable listen.

"We are young, we run green...".

I’ve heard this one before! I really liked it and I like how the album flows between each song. By the end it mellowed out a bit and I really liked that. It’s super fun and a really good listen!

Unapologetically dumb fun with a string of pop singles that rival the Buzzcocks and Madness.

Great album, It starts with an upbeat tone and goes into a slower type of beat towards the end.

Punkier than I expected.

Better than alright

Already in my regular rotation!

Jaunty fun

Yeah, really enjoyed this. I should listen to more Supergrass Songs added to playlist: - I'd Like To Know - Alright - Sofa Of My Lethargy

i enjoyed listening to rock more than i thought

wait i really liked this i’ve been listening multiple times

A loud, enticing start to an overall satisfying album. This was close to a no-skip album for me, but unfortunately a hand full of weak songs peppered through out brought this britrock odyssey from a 5/5, to a 4. favorite tracks: I’d Like to Know, and Lenny.

https://record.club/anasaturno/reviews/albums/supergrass-i-should-coco

I`d Like To Know

I like this. Nesten litt mer poppete radiohead.

Crazy variety on this album, really liked it. Only knew the iconic Alright song, the rest was new to me

One of the quirkier britpop entries, good fun

07/10 07.01.2026

this one’s funky, which is exactly what i like in an album. this will def be on rotation for me. 5/5 ⭐️

fun as hell.

I'm surprised as how much I like this. It actually feels like a solid progression from previous britrock. And actually, it's just really good rock. The song I've noted below is a bit above and beyond the rest, but there's some really good songs on this album. "Strange Ones", "She's So Loose", and "Time", just to name a few of them. It's a surprisingly really good album. Not a whole lot of great going on, but consistently good! An album that doesn't maybe have a ton of depth but does have a ton of width. I would definitely listen to this whole thing again. Favorite Song(s): Alright

Track 1. (I’d Like To Know) Interesting song, but I like it. 8.3/10 Track 2. (Caught By the Fuzz) short, don’t love how they sing choppy and add a weird fuzzy sound. It’s good though. 6.8/10 Track 3. (Mansize Rooster) 7/10 Track 4. (Alright) oh so this is where this song is from, classic summer vibe. 9/10 Track 5. (Lose It) love the gituar. 8/10 Track 6. (Lenny) 7.4/10 Track 7. (Strange One) definitely strange intro thats for sure. 7.2/10 Track 8. (Sitting Up Straight) 7/10 Track 9. (She’s So Loose) 8.8/10 Track 10. (We’re Not Suppost To) odd intro, not really my vibe. 5/10 Track 11. (Time) 8.2/10 Track 12. (Sofa Of My Lethargy) 9/10 Track 13. (Time To Go) wish this was longer would’ve been one of my favs. 8.6/10 Overall Score: 7.7/10

I don't normally like Britpop but I really liked this! Going to relisten for sure

Super entertaining! Kind of shocked when I saw this because I only know them from a quick feature in the shit head comedy called Benchwarmers (a 2 star comedy that I adore & have seen 100 times). I loved how it changes from 2000s punk (reminiscent of Blur, Green Day or earlier Cage The Elephant) to what I think the Pixies sound like (creepier punk rock IMO) and more. This happens from Strange Ones (track 7) to the end. Great find!

Pop punk deliciousness.

Aggressively British and a bit of me all in one, I loved it Best = I'd like to know Skip = Alright (tv ad trauma) or We're not supposed to (hated the noises)

Kind of just a good rock album nothing too special.

Interesting! IM SO SHOCKED WE ARE YOUNG IS FROM THE 90S????? to brzmi jak 2010 piosenka

pretty solid, album cover is really sick i like the style of music, just not the most diverse, i think the only song that stands out as pretty different from the other is alright which makes sense cuz its like the song from this album, I really enjoyed strange ones and time though as well really solid 4 album like good but kinda average 7.5/10

I was already enjoying this album and then a song from Clueless came on (Alright) and that really sealed my rating.
