Reviews (page 2 of 12)

Cool, I like punk/rock songs and this is exactly that, very good music to work with!

Only knew the single Alright. Loved the rest of the album. Took me way too long to realize how great they are.

pretty good

HELL FUCKING YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!. Es lo que vengo buscando hace rato, es lo que quiero para mi música. Tremendo, cómo se nota esa fuerza juvenil. Ultra versatil.

INPUT = {"artist": "Supergrass", "album": "I Should Coco"} LINEUP = {"men": 3, "women": 0} FEATURED_ARTISTS = {"men": 0, "women": 0} TOTAL_MEN = 3 TOTAL_WOMEN = 0 WOMEN_PERCENTAGE = 0 OUTPUT = "Maximum score awarded. 5/5"

Every song sounds like it could be in a levis commercial. Supergrass? more like super fun.

Love this album from start to finish. This is right in my musical wheelhouse and was one of the early albums I listened to when getting into Britpop. Biggest Hit - alright Biggest Miss ( if I had to choose) - lose it Hidden Gem - Sofa (of my lethargy)

oooh thats where it came from

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Absolute banger, what a debut album this is. Great band

A lot of energy in every song! A fresh sound.

Some albums and songs just make you smile and for me, this is one of them. Not as polished or mature as ‘in it for the money’, but a cracking album nonetheless. ‘I’d Like to Know’ firmly sets out the stall for what to expect from this album, good time fuzzy guitars. Yes ‘Alright’ is the one everyone knows (and quite rightly), but ‘Mansize Rooster’ ‘Lenny’ and particularly’Caught By The Fuzz’ were equally great singles. I love the contrast between the end of ‘Strange Ones’ and ‘Sitting up Up Straight’ with it’s piano intro reminiscent of old school cockney joanna tunes. ‘We’re Not Supposed to’ is a light fun breather of a track. The last three tracks display a mellower, reflective style. I’ve always thought Supergrass are an underrated band who have produced some great albums and going into this I was happy i knew this was a 4/5, but listening to it again it appears maybe i have been guilty of underrating this album, as it is definitely better than 4/5.

Sugergrass are fun. After the dirgey nonsense of My Bloody Valentine yesterday, this is like a breath of fresh air to me. I don't think Supergrass ever really got the plaudits they deserved, as they got wrapped up as Britpop band and were dismissed as a result. And there's no denying that parts of this are reminiscent of Blur - parts of I'd Like To Know in particular make me think of Tracy Jacks. But Supergrass were their own beast and had far more ideas than the hundreds of carbon copy Britpop bands that flourished in the 90s. Caught By The Fuzz is a brilliant track which although I know it from it's original release, is now inextricably linked in my brain with an equally brilliant film; Hot Fuzz. Mansize Rooster is also great, particularly the "ahhhhhhhhhh" backing vocal and the jaunty piano. This whole album flies by in bouncy, confident and very enjoyable fashion, and then you remember this is their debut. This is such an impressive debut album. The slower, more gentle second half shows off their range and that they aren't just a trio of cheeky chappies. Genuinely loved this album and was sad when it ended (even though I've heard it many a time before). 5/5

Absolutely amazing for a debut. In fact, there were several more successful bands around this time that never achieved anything this good. It’s a shame that I tend to forget about this album because it blows me away every time I actually put it on.

Very eclectic album. Excellent electric guitar tone. Reminiscent melodies.

Riotous is proabably the one word description for an album that barely pauses for breath. It delivers hit after hit (partly because they released so many singles) For such a young band it really covers a lot of ground and throws around ideas for fun. Objectively, it's probably a 4.5/5, but having recently watched the 30th anniversary tour and watch the band play the whole album live it can't be anything but a 5

I like

Noise of the highest order

What a great surprise. never heard of them, but what a great album. late 90s Brit Pop was a good time in music (we heard the Libertines a couple weeks ago). there is seriously not a bad song on the album. i actually listened to this one twice. i especially liked "i'd Like to know", "Caught by the Fuzz", "Alright", and "Lenny". i probably will buy this one.

One of the more enjoyable albums!

Indie / Brit Pop. Their debut album. A cracking debut, set at a frantic pace. I'd Like To Know is a real good opening track, it also sets the tone and there is no let up from there really. Alright was a big hit at the time and rightly so. Lose It is also a good track. An excellent album, a toe tapper throughout.

Loved that there was a sound that tied all the songs together but they were so different from each other. Definitely bummed I missed in the 90s but so glad I got to listen to it.

Honestly, some great brit rock.

Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I apparently know "Alright" How do I feel about this artist? I really don't know anything about Supergrass Favorite song(s)? Alright, Sofa, Strange Ones Overall Thoughts: This was a really fun listen, I liked every song. I am not sure what the definition of Britpop actually is, but it's apparently not pop. I heard a lot of punk and glam influence and similarities to the riot-girl and grunge movements out of the PNW around the same time as this release. I have yet to have an album that made me actually want to start listening more to a band but this one did. I am giving it 5 for now, but later my system could change and I could end up demoting it to a 4.

An often overlooked Britpop classic. Great energy, humour and rock riffs.

no mames

Ah, this is who The Libertines WISH they were... Hooks aplenty, guitars played tight and fast busting out of the speakers, and an endearing Britishness that can't be bettered by any (many) of their peers.

Super solid driving punk/alt-rock. No weak tracks, and whole nothing that also jumps out to to blow me away, I keep coming back. Just a solid album.

Honestly an absolute banger. I forgot how great this album is.

Crunchy!

Truly one of the worst album covers of all time. Made me think it was Trolls inspired or smth. Great Britpop though.

One of my favourite albums 5

Obvio Alright es clasica, pero me gustaron casi todas, aunque creo que mi favs besides that one son Time, Loose It, y Lenny.

Oh yes. Oh yes.

I like the energy. Exactly what I needed today. It has a nice punk sound but also enough pop to allow you to sing along. I recognized Alright-I had no idea it was by Supergrass. Strange Ones was a cool song. I would listen to that one again.

It's energetic

Just a great, fun, guitar pop record. I remember seeing them at a small club gig before this came out and they were absolutely exploding with that ridiculous energy, vitality and enthusiasm that's seemingly unique to the very best 3-piece guitar bands. All these years later and every track is still utterly captivating - even Alright, which was inescapable for years, remains a magnificent pop song. They always seemed quite cartoonish and I'm not sure how seriously they were taken at the time but it seems to me, they never made a bad record.

Immediately knew I’d be listening to this one again and again. The energy is infectious and I loved the British Invasion influences. Makes me nostalgic for my teenage years. “Sofa (Of My Lethargy)” is probably my favorite track.

Holy shit why was this so fun

I heard this for the first time about 6 months ago and immediately loved it. Enjoyed it just as much time time around

I've never explored their music beyond the Best Of album and watching festival performances like Glastonbury on TV last year but I'm glad I have now. Such a fun, lively album from a fantastic band!

Great discovery from the challenge, high energy, super fun album. Mansize Rooster was my song and first listen of the album with She’s so Loose, Time and I’d Like To Know as my songs of the album

Brand new to me. I got this, saw the nightmare fuel cover and had LOW expectations. Instead I got surf music that went through a lawnmower. Incredible stuff.

an unexpected surprise for me: I really enjoyed an album by one of Britpop's more esoteric acts! these are some fast-paced, hyperactive power pop songs that are utterly dazzling in their wit and the intensity of the performances involved. I can't believe the members of Supergrass were teenagers when they recorded this! their abilities as songwriters are far beyond their years. there's a lot of fun harmonic surprises that made me think of RYM beloveds 12 Rods; I'm pretty sure they were listening to this when they were writing Split Personalities, another pop rock record with a ton of flashy compositional chops under the hood. across these 13 tracks, Supergrass pretty much never let up on the catchy melodies, and they're almost always paired with some frenetic drumming, deep vocal layering and funky guitar strutting. never a dull moment in these 40 minutes! strong 9/10.

371/1089 - Love the energy here. Great fills throughout. I was familiar with "Alright" before listening and I'm glad the rest of the album was also alright too :)

Frenetic, relentless, catchy and exciting. I only knew Alright before now because of the Clueless soundtrack, so this was a great, unexpected ride.

HOLY PEAK, will probably listen to other their albums

There is so much to be said to commend this fantastic debut album but today I will focus solely on the relentless hot energy. I Should Coco sounds like the record company said they would release just one 40 minute album for Supergrass then pressed the record button and said “you have 20 minutes”.

This rocks!!

Catchy

Super fun band and distinctive sound

Actually will go back to ts, my cup of tea🙏

This album quest is like golf—hours upon hours of misery and anguish, but one good shot will make you say, “ah, that’s why they call it the greatest game.” This is one of those good golf shots.

A band I've heard of but maybe never actually listened to. Fuckin rocks.

album about rock music = very goodge. 90s music = peak. i like the accompaniment of the instruments as well.

The cover is deeply unsettling, but I know Alright from the excellent Clueless soundtrack and there's a bunch of other great tracks here. Mansize Rooster, Strange Ones, Time. Really fantastic debut album. Definitely will listen to this one again, even if I have to make my own playlist with different art.

Released when I was 17 and is loaded with nostalgia. Supergrass never got drawn into the mega mainstream and are often forgotten when people talk about Britpop of the ‘90s. They blend cheeky pop with fast punk rock and made a number of great albums. Underrated. Saw them live for the 30th anniversary earlier this year. It was album perfect.

Noen absolutte legende sanger

Great album of its time. Better than oasis

You could have told me this album came out in 2005 instead of 1995 and I would have believed you. Regardless this is an unbelievably solid and very fun alternative rock album. I have no complaints and no problem giving it 5/5.

I love this. I LOVE THIS. Makes me feel the way I felt listening to Elvis Costello the first time (Armed Forces 20+ years ago). Love the piano, love the pace, love the themes and the way they wear them so lightly. I think I was only vaguely aware that they were a Britpop band though of course I knew “Alright” from “Clueless.” I’m excited to keep coming back to it. I think my only critique would be that the energy seems to dissipate near the end of the album… I could see this being one where I lose track of the tracks near the end. But there are plenty of albums like that which I have come to love when I pay more attention. Mostly I’m just happy to have encountered this today. Lifted my spirits amidst yucky weather.

You wanna talk about being won over in the first second? I know I'm not the only one who didn't know what to expect coming into this album. I mean, lookit those faces on the cover — the hell is that wojak in the middle? And the whole thing being stylized like some old sort of 50's record? The heck **is** this thing? I hadn't a Scooby-Doo. I know we ain't supposed to judge a book by its cover, but goodness me — what a cover. But even if I didn't have any expectations, I know I had my guess. "This is another 'British album,' innit?" Y'know what I'm talking about: the albums from the UK that you've never heard of in your life, but just because some Big Important Critics™ happened to go nuts over it back in the day, it's suddenly something you're "supposed" to listen to. It's a perspective I **try** to refrain from, since I often find myself annoyed by reviews that just go "GRRR BRITISH" and give a 1 ... though it's not like there aren't times where I can't help myself. And going by the cover, I was preparing myself from some real "I don't give a shit" shit — just in case. Which is what made the first second of this album even more of a surprise. This book labels this album as rock, indie and Britpop. But y'know what it **doesn't** list this album as, that I think it should? **Punk**. This is some youthful, energetic as hell Britpop punk. Seriously, I can't tell you how taken aback I was by how hard that first second hit, and in the best way possible. It's ... oh, it was so good. Sort of incredible, honestly. This is the kind of album that hits the floor **absolutely sprinting** and refuses to hold the energy down. I mean, right after the album starts like **that**, suddenly it throws **those keys** in your face? Oh, **that** is a good key sound! And you're giving it to me on **track one**? You're too generous! And I'll mention, it's not like **every** song on this album is punk, by "classical definition." There's actually a nice switch up of styles between songs, I think particularly on the back half. But it's the **energy** that's what's real important here. The youthful punk energy. It makes every song just as enjoyable as the last. There wasn't a single moment where I wasn't having a good time. Maybe some of the pitched-up bookending "We're Not Supposed To" wasn't exactly my thing, but the song in the middle sure as hell made up for it. And then it's followed up by "Time"? And "Sofa (Of My Lethargy)"? With **more** keys? Oh, stop spoiling me! Y'know, I don't tend to blame myself too hard for whenever I wince seeing a British album pop up. For one, I'm geographically north of being a dumb septic. Even though we shared a queen, of course I was way more up on the American music scene that anything goin' on in jolly ol' England. And besides, second, it sometimes feels like these albums are being included at the expense of literally anything else from anywhere else in the world. Seriously, when your only three "origin" labels are "US", "UK" and, seriously, "other"... But I gotta give it to Supergrass, they're one British album that absolutely deserves to be here. People should actually listen to this one; I think it's too energetic and fun not to. Maybe it won't win **you** over in the first second like it did me — but give it a shot. If the first second doesn't work, maybe the second will. Or the third. Or however many after that. All I know is, to me at least it's worth every one. And I hope you can come to coco as well.

Might not have been as popular as Blur or Oasis, but this is still some damn good British punk. 4.5 bumped up to 5.

Yeah, that’s a 5. I didn’t really know what to expect going into this, but color me surprised. I think these guys might’ve made something that’s just as enjoyable as “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?”, though obviously not as impactful. This album feels like taking an amalgamation of a bunch of 60s/70s British styles, and giving them a bit of a Britpop update, and it works remarkably well. The energy from the instrumentals & their vocals is deeply infectious, especially with the punch of the percussion & a lot of the guitar / keyboard melodies leading the way. It helps that these tracks are generally fast as hell, working at breakneck tempos that bring an energy that’s reminiscent of Oasis, yet still managing to channel more of a Beatles-y vibe on some tracks, and shades of the Sex Pistols on others, and that’s underselling just how many different singers/bands I was reminded of throughout this thing. This album doesn’t discriminate in terms of styles, with every track feeling different, yet still in the same instrumental base, to keep a sense of continuity throughout. If I have any complaints towards it, it’s that I think the lyricism doesn’t quite have the depth it could have on a number of tracks, with just one looping verse & a chorus to carry the track. It’s especially noticeable around tracks 5-11, and perhaps most bothersome on “Time”, with just loose fragments of lines present throughout the track. There are some tracks that really do have fully structured verses though, and I really liked those. Overall, the instrumental energy / vocal delivery of these tracks manage to keep the album from ever really hitting a lull point – even when I was finally starting to notice the looping lyrics, I found it never really affected my enjoyment of the album. Besides, this is a 19-year-old, a 21-year-old, & a 26-year old, managing to make this type of layered, rich, youthful expression of an album. I can let some of their songwriting slide, since they’re just trying to capture their own vivacity in musical form, without a real regard for the “picturesque” nature of it all. The lines they did come up with are still pretty good, so I won’t blame them for saying “good enough” and letting them loop. I don’t want to really go indepth for a track through track analysis here, so here’s some scattered notes: “sort of a Teen Titans vibe”, “don’t be a snitch”, “Travis McCoy, you fucking fraud”, “total ball of energy”, “What the fuck did Lenny do?”, “Is there a subway between Earth & Hell?”, “fine, I’ll sit up straight, damn”, “rather Beatles-y”, “they sound like South Park characters”, “really nice surprise harmonica”, “this feels like a prog interlude”, & “we need more goodbye tracks”. If nothing else, this all just means I was engaged with the album throughout, and I think it’s an album worth engaging with. It is a fast 40 minutes, and a super enjoyable one at that – I’m very glad it’s on the list, and I’m very excited to get their other album on the list somewhere down the line. Hopefully, that one is just as good, but this one is a very easy 5 to my ears.

Riktigt roligt! Kanske tar jag i för mycket, men vafan!

I had never heard of this album (or Supergrass generally) until about 24 hours ago, so I had next to no expectations going into it. If anything, I might have gone into I Should Coco with a slight bias against it since it’s yet another LP from a relatively obscure English rock band and I haven’t had the best experience with those kinds of Book Albums so far. To my surprise, I Should Coco hooked me almost immediately! The fast-paced energy, punk-influenced vocals and genuine musical proficiency on show all played to my tastes quite well. It also moved at such a fast pace that none of the songs felt like they overstayed their welcome and I never really had the chance to think about whether or not something was working for me – I was just jamming out nonstop! It took things going on like that for about nine tracks before I first got the sense that the album’s quality might be dipping. I actually would consider "She’s So Loose" a pretty solid highlight, but I didn’t like it quite as much as the previous tracks on first listen. "We’re Not Supposed To" came right after – it’s one that I wanted to like (for its weirdness and positive themes), but the whole “we’re not supposed to make love to you, because we know you’re younger” line just didn’t sit quite right with me. The final leg of the album is undoubtedly its weakest, with "Time to Go" being my least favorite on I Should Coco. Fortunately, that one is the shortest song on the LP and "Sofa (Of My Lethargy)" is good enough to save the last third from being completely skippable. There wasn’t a genuinely bad track on the album and I do appreciate the variety the slower songs add, but I do wish some better moments were saved for the end. I was actually quite torn on whether to give I Should Coco four or five stars, but listening through the LP three times today (in different settings, on different listening devices and experiencing different moods) and typing out my feelings here helped me come to the conclusion that it’s a very strong four star album. If it had just one masterpiece-level song and a slightly better final third, it’d be an easy five for me! EDIT: I recently listened to Iron Maiden's debut album for the first time, felt that it was a near-perfect album and strongly considered giving it five stars, but had a nagging feeling that I Should Coco should also be a five if I was going to go that route. I ended up listening to the two back-to-back (along with Blue by Joni Mitchell, the only Book Album I had given a perfect score to) and concluded that this album actually is closer to a five than the Iron Maiden LP, so I'm retroactively upping my score. Leaving the rest of my review (including my highlight picks) intact, though! Highlights: I’d Like to Know, Caught by the Fuzz, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Lose It, Lenny, Strange Ones, Sitting Up Straight, She’s So Loose, Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

This one is full of fun and energy. Good sound and diversity and it doesn't fall off. Alright is such a fun one

At a certain point a few years back, I decided that it was no longer worth my time follow new releases as closely as I did in the past. Anything worth hearing, I resolved, would make its way to me eventually but there was no need to rush. That, unfortunately, led me to become fairly insulated, only listening to the same stuff over and over ad nauseum, and it got boring. But I still wasn’t willing to put in the effort to look into every hyped up new release. So, my compromise was to dig into the past, exploring the already extant discographies of artists from yesterday. Sure enough, this has been pretty damn fulfilling for me, as I've found a veritable treasure trove of awesome shit that has just been sitting there for decades, waiting for me to find it. Weirdly, most of it was British and from the 90s. If I remember 2025 for nothing else, I will still think of it as the year I got, like, super into Britpop (my eventual Definitely Maybe review is going to be LONG), finding what came out of the UK in the early-mid-90s to be the first "movement" to match my love of what came out of CBGB in the mid-late-70s. Even before that, though, Supergrass had existed on the periphery of my awareness for quite some time. I first heard "Alright" after it was sampled by, of all people, Travie McCoy on that album that I had on iTunes for some reason back in 2010. Aside from that tangential connection, these dudes truly came onto my radar a few months ago and my immense enjoyment of this album was probably the single biggest direct factor that led me to pitch doing this project. I think it’s a pretty regular occurrence when talking about rock music (particularly older rock music) to hear about how impressive it is that x artist recorded y album when he was “only z years old” but it’s pretty fun to hear an album that unmistakably sounds like it was recorded by a bunch of young people and could only have been recorded by a bunch of young people. Gaz and his goofy sideburns were 17 when they started recording and you can tell; it's just got that energy, exuberance, hopefulness, feeling of invincibility, whatever you want to call it. It's infectious; Steven Spielberg saw the "Alright" music video and offered to produce a Monkees style television show, a veritable Sliding Doors moment if ever there was one. Over on channel.WAV, circa 9/12/2025, I said, "Supergrass has a remarkable ability to make me feel nostalgia for things that had no part in my own childhood." I don't know if that reads like as high of a compliment as I intend it to be, but I can listen to this thing and capture fleeting glimpses of feelings I haven't had since I was a kid. That's something truly magical. But, fleeting is the key word. The back half of the album sees whimsy give way to wistfulness and songs that have more of a melancholic vibe. I Should Coco is all the feelings of growing up packed into 40 minutes.

Supergrass’s I Should Coco landed in 1995 — the same year as The Bends, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. In other words, the absolute peak of mid-’90s alternative rock. Yet somehow, these barely-twentysomething lads from Oxford — Gaz Coombes was only nineteen — managed to release the best-selling British debut since Please Please Me. Not bad company, even if Supergrass would never reach Beatles-level myth. This record is, simply put, a riot. A hyperactive, 40-minute burst of unfiltered joy — as effective against gloom as Sinatra’s Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! but delivered through a wall of guitars, grins, and caffeine. Wikipedia dutifully lists The Buzzcocks, The Jam, Madness, and The Kinks as influences, but the lineage feels more Small Faces than Jam, more Who than Kinks. Danny Goffey drums like he’s had three espressos too many and worships Keith Moon; Mick Quinn’s bass lines bounce and punch like John Entwistle in a sugar rush. And yet, I Should Coco isn’t about heritage or reference points — it’s about sheer, combustible fun. From the explosive opener “I’d Like to Know” to the euphoric “Alright,” every track radiates youthful recklessness. “Sitting Up Straight” teases calm before detonating again, while “She’s So Loose” finally slows the tempo — a small masterpiece in miniature. Then comes that moment: “We’re Not Supposed To.” Recorded at double speed and sounding like a helium hangover, it’s the album’s one real misfire — a juvenile in-joke that should have stayed on the cutting room floor. But the band redeems itself immediately with the lazy sway of “Time” and the hazy, unexpectedly intricate “Sofa (of My Lethargy),” which drifts toward something almost prog-like. By then, it’s clear that beneath the chaos, there’s surprising depth — and maybe even a fondness for ’70s pop à la Smokie lurking beneath the fuzz. The pseudo-farewell that closes the record is unnecessary but harmless — like one too many pints after a perfect night out. Minor flaws aside, I Should Coco remains a blast of pure mid-’90s exuberance: fast, funny, and gloriously alive, the sound of youth with nowhere particular to be and too much energy to sit still.

Absolutely solid album, every song a winner

Big surprise for me!

Days since I last listened to this album before it came up in the generator: 11

Oh yeah, this was great. Love the energy from the start. Felt like a mix of punk plus Madness.

Slaps. One of the better and more approachable punkish album on here

Two straight days of some UK rock. I enjoyed this more than my previous listen, though. Caught by the Fuzz is fantastic. A really good and really strong album. It's all gas and no brakes and I love it for that. I was surprised that I had not heard this album before today. I would definitely purchase this album. Favorite Tracks: Caught by the Fuzz, Lose It, She's So Loose Listened on Apple Music with Airpods Pro Max in the office.

Finally, a Britpop band I can unironically get behind. Such a contrast with yesterday's Suede, which was too dull to even comment on. This is really fun.

Firstly: SHES SO LOOSE SHOULDVE BEEN A SINGLE Secondly- WTF! I haven’t had this album yet?! It’s one like the 1st garbage album where I don’t think theres a bad track but I rarely revisit. But it’s banger after banger… caught by the fuzz, lose it, lenny and sitting up straight would work being played in some small scale grimy punk rock venue. While strange ones reverses the role of verse and chorus perfectly and the way gaz sings ‘every fucker needs a home’ is a classic moment. Alright and mansize rooster are great piano rockers. Time is incredible a very old favourite song of mine I sadly neglect a bit now same with sofa of my lethargy. Fuck even we’re not supposed to is fun. Oh and she’s so loose is perfect!!! 5/5

I surprisingly enjoyed this album.

Britpop's weird cousin - frantic, slightly confused, and charmingly chaotic.

Like a freakier oasis. Liked it a lot

What a joy! I was absent from any awareness of good pop music during this era. I was a geezer at this point (now I'm just old), and crucially had no connections to inform me about the good stuff. My contemporaries were listening to adult fare. _Creem_ magazine was long gone--they would have been on this one for sure! I didn't find out about Oasis until years after they'd broken up. This reminds me of the Vibrators and a host of other cool young bands. 'll be snagging this one. 5

Woah man. I guess I...love britpop? The fuck? There's something smack-dab perfect here for me. It's gritty and alternative while still emphasizing the musicianship needed for truly good music; it's aggressive, but it doesn't take itself too seriously; it rips along at a sprint, but takes some time to lean back as well. Supergrass, you have my love. A+ album cover also, it's weird and fucked up and kind of weirdly pretty.

Excellent!

Considering this is a debut album from three fairly young lads, it’s an absolute belter. It has a lot more depth and quality musicianship than your typical ‘Britpop’ album from that time. I think they went on to make a better record with the follow-up, but this is still an extremely solid album. Great guitar work and striking vocals. What’s not to love?

I agree with some of the comments about this - I had no idea who these people were but I've listened to many of their songs thinking they were fantastic and somehow never placing them anywhere in my radar. It is a bit unfair how underrecognised they are

GIIIIIIIRREEE but that one track with the terrible micing is cause for treason. FIVE!

Im going to park my personal feeling for this album for an objective review. I think this is a very good album. The youthful energy hits you like a wave, but its built on some seriously good song writing and playing. They manage to thrash along at a great rate but the tunes and hooks keep coming. This is a tour de force of British song writing that builds on ray davies, marc bolan and maybe even joe strummer. The best thing about it is it is completely unpretentious and stands the test of time better for it. So many of these albums date badly because they were "cool" for the time, but decades later they just seem bad. This is cool because its not trying to be of the zeitgeist, just really good and fun.

Classic

"You're listening to my tunes!" - Simon (when he saw the Supergrass album art on my Spotify)

I like it. Reminds me of a lot of others. Devo, New York Dolls

Man, I forgot how much I dig this album. Brit-pop but with teeth! It's as if you took Blur's self-titled and flipped the vibes of the big single and the rest of the album. "Alright" is a peppy little pop bop, but the rest of the album has some serious punk rock vibes, where as on Blur, you have a punk rock esc single in "Song 2" and the rest is more Brit-pop bops. Criminally underrated in the states! Love this one!!

I’ve got two words for you: Mansize. Rooster.

Awesome.

I liked the album. It's driven and melodic. My favorite two songs were Alright and Caught by the Fuzz.

it was good! not necessarily something i would throw on everyday but it was good

Really cool Brit-pop. I'd never heard of this band and wasn't familiar with their music and then "Alright" came on. I've heard this song a lot over the years, never knew who made it. Something I'd come back to again, for sure. Just started listening to it for a second time this morning...and this is what I was hoping for when starting this project, finding bands and albums that I'd never heard of (but should have, I was well aware of what was going on in 1995) and enjoying them.

Great pop punk album. Some tracks have some Cardiacs vibes.

When people talk about britpop, Supergrass often gets a mention, but doesn’t seem to hit the level of respect that Blur or Oasis get. Listening to this, it feels silly for them to even be compared. This is much more punk, or power-pop, and all about the embracing of being a bit weird. I expected to enjoy this, as I’ve enjoyed other Supergrass albums, but I didn’t expect to love this quite so much. Side note: the album cover has me transfixed too.

No skips. I wish I wrote something as cool as this when I was a teenager.

Epic. Add to list of epic 90s alt rock albums like Matthew sweet and teenage fan club. Just everything I look for in an album. Love

This albums slaps and I enjoyed it much more than I thought it would. It’s like the missing link, if links were needed, between 00s post-punk and ska.

The best time to be presented with this album would’ve been 3 months ago when I went to see Supergrass perform it in full, but there’s never a bad time, really. It’s a sugar-rush of joyful power-pop that plays like a greatest hits collection, and oozes the kind of youthfulness that can only come from a band that were legitimately young at the time they made it. At the same time the music is just smart and grown-up enough to be interesting, without coming across smug or self-important. Are Supergrass one of the best or most important bands in history? No. But did they release two absolutely corking albums that surpass most of the rest of this list for pure fun? You betcha. 4.5 / 5

Amazing album. 4.5 stars rounded up

Up there with His’n’Hers and Different Class as the trio of albums that best survive the Britpop era.

Fantastic

Great melodies, succinct songs, good lyrics - hard to find fault with much on this album. 4.5/5.0: Excellent

i had heard of the artist before but never heard anything by them. as far as artists ive never heard before, this is one of my favorite albums on the list so far

Most of these tracks are very hit or miss with me. But when they hit, they hit HARD. Favorite track is Time which is easily a 10/10. It gets stuck in my head for hours and I never get bored listening to it.

love Supergrass

Fantastic album loved it start to finish

I was 13 when this came out and absolutely loved it. Still do now. Holds up after all these years. Raw and pop in places.

Superkras!

Supergrass lives on the punk side of the Britpop spectrum and I’m here for it. I always forget how fun this album is. It leaves behind the angst of Oasis and the modern political commentary of Blur for a jumpier, upbeat version of the genre, integrating garage rock and power pop influences. Underrated.

This album was so much fun, goddamn it. i was immediately struck with the vocals in that they really reminded me of Gerard Way, and then I had to look the lore up. Supergrass absolutely rips and I'm glad this challenge really put me on. Just casually threw it on and then Alright came on, a song I've heard like a million times before but never heard it all the way through. Corporate America LOVES that song, and I think I do too, a little more now. It is honestly pretty sweet. This band definitely has a garage punk rock sound, there are times it sounds more punk, and at the same time INCREDIBLY jangly. Very very catchy songs, often played very fast. Incredibly tight instrumentals. I've only gotten into britpop as I get older but I can totally appreciate the jangly nature of this band and others like The La's, even if this band has more of a punchy bite. I would consider this album Jangle Punk. She's So Loose is fantastic, giving me major proto-Turnstile vibes. Every song is incredibly solid, catchy, colorful and very fun to listen to. Wild energy, wild progressive grooves on the back end especially which were a joy to hear. I think the closer is damn near perfect and mirrored another album I just listened to, the white album from the Beatles with a very sweet send off song to a perfect mindfuck of an album. Just beautiful, one of my favs this year.

A band I had heard of but never heard. Love the energy of this one! A solid wall of sound from start to finish! Where’s the mosh pit? I’m in!

Fantastic album. Takes me back to my younger days.

A perfect, alt/britpop album full of energy, and immaculate production

Tussugott stöff. Hresst, hrátt og hratt. Ein af plötum þess tímabils í Bretlandinu.

Frábær plata, ekki eitt leiðinlegt lagt.

Straight up banger, and on the day I went to see them!

Fucking aright meow. This one shocked me, all over punky, alternative, pop from left to right. Very catchy indeed. Will go into rotation.

Great Album. Loved it!

A personal classic. My first CD (alongside John Lennon's Imagine). I know every note. I love every note. So much energy. Severely underrated. Great cover art.

This nailed that sweet spot—punk spirit without the weight. It’s the kind of album that doesn’t need to say a lot to make you feel a lot. It’s full of wild energy, scruffy guitars, and breakneck pacing. It feels playful, sometimes bratty, but surprisingly sharp musically. I recognised Alright straight away. The rest of the tracks resonated too. A cheeky playful sought of punk without all the serious political overtones that usually come with that genre.

This album came out during my senior year in high school. It really evoked the vibe of the mid to late 90s for teenagers and young adults. It holds to this day.

this one really blew my hair back. unapologetic indie/power-pop is my zone, and goddamn this one delivers that. i can't believe i'd never heard of this band before, they're so in my wheelhouse that i went and listened to everything they have after this.

Love it

Didn't realise this would be so good. Brilliant Britpop album

5/5. Alternative indie punk, this album goes hard. It's upbeat but has grueling guitar riffs and excellent drums. The vocals are clear and young, yet feels like they carry some experience. In the latter half of the album, they seem to be experiencing with some new sounds and although it is a different, slower energy, it still works honestly. It feels complete and resolved by the end. A great album from this list. Best Song: Alright, Caught By The Fuzz, She's So Loose, Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

HOLY SHIT! The only song I knew coming into this album was "Alright" and that song is unlike most of this album. "I'd Like To Know" caught me soooo off guard. This may be my favorite album I have discovered while doing this 1001 albums adventure. I am now 4 albums behind because I can't stop listening to this. It's a 90s album with 90s style instrumentals, but their vocalists are very 70s to me. I love this album so much. I WILL be listening to more once I get this out of my system (esp because everyone thinks this isn't their best yet.) What a debut. The first 4 songs are PERFECT and "Sitting Up Straight" is SO good. I also love how in "Mansize Rooster" they keep tricking you into where the end of the song will be. The vocals are amazing, the solos fuck, the riffs are great, the rhythm section is TIGHT, and the album is so diverse. I love it! Liked Songs: The entire album except for "Time To Go" although that song is fun too

Always thought this was a 70s band.

Never heard this before. And, it's been a little while on this 1001 album journey where I've liked something almost instantly. Surprise 5/5

Love the pacing on this one - just the right amount of psychedelia though it increases towards the end as the album noticeably slows from its earlier frantic, frenetic pace - in that sense it's a little reminiscent of SFAs Radiator - with the Sofa of My Lethargy outro the highlight.

I LOVE THIS

this fucking slaps

Very complete album, didn’t think Supergrass were that good!

I remember why this band is so good when I listen to this album. It really is a banger!!

Love this, fun, energetic, nostalgic. Normally not one for upbeat but I enjoyed this a lot

A personal favorite. Packed with punk energy, rock ‘n’ roll swagger, and a playfulness that feels very British. Supergrass play like they’re just a bunch of kids goofing around with guitars in a garage, but the songs are actually pretty complex. There are loads of surprising turns and plenty of interesting elements that add tension to the music. Mostly though, this album is just a really good time. Listening to it feels like hanging out with a group of friends who like to jump fences. There’s a bit of danger and adrenaline, but you end up laughing a lot too.

Some songs remind me of Green Day. Strange ones, I'd like to know, say. Mansize rooster sounds like a tune from an Arctic Monkeys song. Enjoyable album.

Such a great debut album. They managed to carve out a unique sound during a time when there were a number of really, really good bands coming out of the UK with their own "unique sound."

Love this one! Tons of great tracks and high energy.

Great album, really underated at the time.

Wow - extremely underrated compared to their peers. I LOVE this!!! I only really knew their biggest hits Alright, Moving and Pumping on Your Stereo before listening today. This is going into my record collection asap

Kind of like a British take on grunge? I liked it a lot. Great chord progressions and tons of energy. The falsetto is a bit much, but overall excellent.

Fantastic fun.

i like the song i like the beat and it is happier music . i like the second song i like the beat and i like what he is singing . i like the album i recommend it because of the beat

I’m biased because of the sentimental value to me, but I adore this.

Super fun =D

BANGER

Woah. Truly epic. Catchy, energetic. Everything I wanted. A total surprise too. I've definitely heard Alright before, no idea it was on this album. Exceptional work here. Very rarely do I want an album to be longer, yet I do this time. Highlights: I'd like to know Mansize Rooster Alright Strange Ones Time

Can't find anything wrong here. Lotsa fun. 5

this album was a very good listen. i love me some british vintage-inspired rock music. it's very much rock pop made for dancing and headbanging to, but seriously, i can't understate how much of a midcentury influence there is in here. in an alternate timeline, this music was probably played live in british concert halls and public places during the 60s and everyone was having a blast. what a sound!

Yes, you should coco. This album is fun.

I gave this one several listens. It's pretty great high energy rock and roll with a few slower dreamy grooves. Creative & catchy songwriting w great guitar riffs and fun vocal harmonies. It's a pretty solid album but my favorites: I'd Like to Know, Mansize Rooster, Lose It, Strange Ones, Sitting Up Straight, She's So Loose... all great songs. I'm a 4 but if I listen to it a few more times I could be up to a 5. (Edit: OK everytime I listen to my favorites I like them more.)

Not. One. Bad. Song. On. This. Album.

one of my absolute favs so far from this list. super solid record, big fan of the energy in it, how varied it is. it's what i needed to listen to today. well done, supergrass!

Holy crap! This is what this project is all about!

This was great. Feels like punk. Goin 5⭐️ cause I feel like it may somehow help these guys out.

4.5/5 Whimsicality is this album's speciality. It's charming, unpretentious, and well-written. It's alright. I'd Like to Know 3.5/5 Caught by the Fuzz 4/5 Mansize Rooster 4.5/5 Alright 5/5 (FAV) Lose It 4.5/5 Lenny 4/5 Strange Ones 3.5/5 (LEAST FAV) Sitting Up Straight 5/5 She's so Loose 4.5/5 We're Not Supposed To 5/5 Time 4.5/5 Sofa (Of My Lethargy) 4/5 Time to Go 4/5

1995. UK. Punk rock, Britpop, alternative rock, pop-punk

I’ve probably neglected to re listen to this album over the years for some reason but this took me right back to uni days. This came out when britpop really took off but it’s stood the test of time better than a lot of the albums released back then. A full on joyful romp of an album with no real duds, even when the pace eventually subsides. I’d forgotten how many of the songs I liked outside of the well known singles. An all round superb album.

Classic

Oasis & Sex Pistols had a baby

Wow. I honestly had never heard of Supergrass before this project and they come out here and give me not one but two banger projects? Really need to listen to this band more and do a deep dive. 9/10

Love the distinctive voice of Gaz Coombes. Forerunners to Britpop, detect the influence in some of Blur's stuff but maybe that's just me. Music is for enjoying not writing up pretentious clap trap.

Long live The Strange.

Amazing !

Surprised me, kinda like The Jam/Buzzcocks/Kinks mixed with Presidents of the USA

I know some Supergrass, but never listened to a full album before. The first song had me hooked. Standout tracks: - I'd Like to Know - She's so Loose

Fuck. Wanted to not like this. It's perfect. Fuck.

classic, seminal, mastapeece

This was a great album to listen to. The cover doesn't do justice to the music. Great stuff

Banger en vrai

I think that the album caught by the fuzz Is pretty good because I liked the lyrics cause it kinda tells the story of the person in the song being kidnapped and wishing they had stayed home and he regrets that he didn't stay home and also talks about how his brother could have helped him if he was there another think I like is the singers voice because it fits the song pretty good I think this song is good and I recommend listening to this album

Wow. I like this album, and I thought I wouldn't. I like this album because I love the background music and the singer's voice. I also like this album because it has many different vibes to it as well. I highly recommend this album!

Have on vinyl. Anarchic pop, better than anything Blur and Oasis ever did

Didn't realise they had so many more good songs other than we are young on that album

Oh, this is a good one. And they were quite young when they released this. Gaz, vocals and guitar, was 19. NINE. TEEN. I can't remember what I was doing when I was 19, but I know it wasn't putting out amazing albums.

Wow just wow. A pop punk rock gem. Clear influence of punks best in a fussion with Elvis Costello and other pop rock bands from the 80s A lot of bands have tried but these guys feel fresh and this album is good since the first chrord strikes. A little bit of ozzy and english metal as well. Had not listen it in a minute but it holds up and I think they will have a resurgance in 10 years and become bigger than when they first came out. Amazing album produced by themselves no big producer or lable pushing for commercial hits and these guys delivered hard punk rock and a pop commercial hit.

Muy bueno

This is an underrated album, and one of my favorites to come out of that 90s era of British pop rock. “Alright” is probably the song most people know from it due to it being in various tv ads and films, but I think almost all of the record holds up and is fun to listen to. This album has all the energy of a punk band without too much of the angst, and really excellent musicianship. The songs vary among a bunch of different rock sub genres, though none so deviant from the root style that it seems off. The difference between “alright” and “strange ones” is pretty stark stylistically but the core of the sound is there. That’s ignoring obvious ones like “we’re not supposed to” as well. My favorites are “Lenny”, “sitting up straight”, and “caught by the fuzz”. I love the frantic feeling this album has (minus the last few tracks) yet how well put together each song is. A total classic.

I knew the name, but didn't know the album. This album is fantastic, and the one hit off it "Alright" is easily the worst song on the album, and it also stands out like a sore thumb. This album is full of good, raw punk influence and is just a great listen.

Never heard of these folks before. Sort of a Ramones meets beach boys? At first I was taken aback and not a fan but after a few songs grew to like them some. And then I listened to the entire album a second time.

Very fun to cook to! Reinvigorated me

Super cool actually, really solid britpop album.

Brilliant always had this CD on repeat

Really enjoyed this one, had a nice mix of rock, punk, alternative pop.. sure I have heard a few of these tracks before but could only remember ‘Alright’

I listen to many albums every day throughout the years and what most of these albums have in common is that almost all of them are from a time that I didn't live through. But there was a specific period in my life, when I was in high school, when everything seemed more intense and albums like I Should Coco were part of my experience of what it was like to live at that time. I really lived intensely the things and people of my time and albums like this, Stone Roses, some by Oasis, Primal Scream are albums that connect me directly with that era every time I listen to them. I can smell the hormones, the cheap drinks, the crazy parties... Yes, there is a feeling of nostalgia, but I'm glad that this time has passed, and when I want to remember those good times, I Should Coco and Supergrass will be there. always available!

It's got the exuberance of the best sixties music with the energy of seventies punk, a little bit of goofiness, cool vocal harmonies, catchy songs, Buzzsaw guitars, plenty of flair in the arrangements all neatly topped of by Gaz Coombes distinctive vocals. The second half of the album is more mellow and sophisticated but equally brilliant. Every song is enjoyable, so for my money this is one of the best albums by one of the best britpop groups. As good as this is, their next album was even better. Love the 'grass

Hadnt appreciated this album at the time as had my head stuck in a synthesier. But it's really good, humourous lyrics, driving sounds think its much better than a lot of that brit pop guff.

It'd been a while since I last listened to this, great debut album!

I can safely say without any doubt that I had never heard of this band before. At least, I thought I hadn’t. From the moment it kicked in after that count off on the first track, I was sold. I knew that if this album was going to be anything like the first track, this was gonna be a good time. And oh man was it. Track after track is filled with really fun grooves, upbeat and energetic sounds, and just a real great party vibe. I could’ve been convinced this album came out in the last ten years pretty easily. I honestly thought “Alright” was a song by like, fun. or something (a band I despise). It sounds so new still. One of favorite bands (who didn’t make the list, unfortunately) is The Fratellis. I honestly think this album and group must’ve been an influence on them. For the group themselves, I hear some Talking Heads (because when don’t I, apparently) and some Elvis Costello. Combine that with 90’s alt-rock and you have a hell of a time. Oh that’s one other thing - I generally have found the alt-rock albums on this list to be pretentious and obnoxious (The xx, Arcade Fire, etc.), so I was very pleasantly surprised when I felt like I could give this album five stars. I label nine of the 13 tracks as standouts. I think that says it all. Five stars. Standout Tracks: I’d Like to Know, Caught by the Fuzz, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Lenny, Strange Ones, Sitting Up Straight, Time, Sofa of My Lethargy

Surprising 5 star. I know I liked them but I didn't expect this album to be that good

Ещё интереснее Проста имбовейшая вещь. Отличные пример для фразы "Всё гениальное-просто". Больше мне нечего сказать

Pre-listening thoughts: So like everyone else on planet earth, all I know from Supergrass is Alright. Expecting the full album to just be that song over and over since that’s the only song by them that gets airplay. Post/during listening thoughts: wait I love this actually. Love this dissonant, high energy opener. The album cover is a little unsettling to me for some reason but whatever. The song lengths are very short. This is very 90s, very British. Nothing I haven’t heard before on this list, but it’s a genre I seem to really like. Vocal harmonies are kind of awesome, especially on songs like Lose It. Yo they got the minions on We’re Not Supposed To! I think the biggest difference with this album and the other British alt rock albums I’ve heard on this list is the sheer energy here. This album is sooo upbeat and fun but I also think it mellows out really nicely at the end. 9/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: need? Nah. Want? YEAAA Fav tracks: I’d Like to Know, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Strange Ones, She’s So Loose, Time To Go Least fav tracks: n/a

Albumi #16, 12.08.2024 Supergrassin debyyttialbumi on yksi itselleni merkityksellisimmistä albumeista. Ostin oman cd-kappaleeni kesällä 1995 turkulaisesta levykaupasta hieman ennen armeijaan lähtöäni.

This is already one of my favourites. A surprisingly consistent album, perhaps, given the “one hit wonder” vibe of “Alright”. Quirky… cheeky… full of youthful energy… brilliant… five stars!

I'm totally blown away, they absolutely rock out and overflow with genius direction, distinct songwriting, and sturdily woven influences across several genres. It's amazing they debuted with this, and so young at that too, their teenage energy really bursts from this album, and it's an absolute thrill to listen to.

Delighted this came up on a day I need to drive to work and it's 37 degrees and July. I even enjoyed the hideously overplayed Alright on this go around. Just ever so slightly front-loaded with choons, but I adore sofa of my lethargy. The answer to 'Who is better, Blur or Oasis?' was always Pulp, Suede or Supergrass

You know how sometimes you get to an album and you realize when it was made and what it is supposed to be like…and you’re disappointed before you ever listen to one note. This is NOT one of those albums. this one exceeded my expectations and I loved it.

Phenomenally catchy tunes. History of British Rock N Roll up till that point

While Supergrass is not widely considered (to my knowledge) among the “big four” Britpop bands, this album shows that they are definitely one of the best from that era. A beyond solid record. 9.5/10 favorite song: I’d like to Know

If all Britpop sounded this punky, snarky, and excited, maybe I’d actually respect it as a genre.

In 1995, Britain was the place to be. While everyone was busy squabbling over who the better band was between Blur and Oasis, there were a small few that would think otherwise. One of those answers, probably, was a young and scrappy three-piece from Oxford called Supergrass who had put out one of the most exuberant albums in recent memory with I Should Coco. Full of adrenaline and chutzpah from start to finish, Supergrass refuse to let up as they provided anthems of a generation for a generation raring to take advantage of the new movement that was in the air. A timeless explosion that still stands the test of time, I Should Coco was the beginning of something special for all the strange ones out here.

The song from all the commercials! The rest of it is really good too. The right mix of rocking out and weirdness.

I was all set to give this a 4. It's an album I like, from a band I have a lot of time for. But probably viewd thrught rose-tinted glasses. A solid 4. Then I listened to it as a whole for the first time in years. It's a very, very good album, from a very, very good (and criminally underrated) band.

I really liked this album - I was very surprised to start it and immediately hear the horrible histories theme song, but overall it was enjoyable and I like the song alright

Britpop brilliance!

This sounds like the tutorial level for Cardiacs. If you put this on and told me it was one of the more accessible Cardiacs albums, I would believe you. But also that would be a really weird thing to lie about, so shame on you. I love this dumb fun nonsense. Shit works better than any ADHD medicine for me. Five outta five.

Really enjoyable album. Lots of fun.

How have I not heard this before?! Couldn't be more up my alley.

FINALLY! This is one hell of a debut album from one of my top 10 favorite bands. They were so young when this came out that it's amazing how good it is. Also how smart and introspective some of the lyrics are. Proper rock band, with proper influences. This is an amazing album (& amazing debut) and it's not even the best by Supergrass!

Awesome, loved the energy and thought the songwriting was fantastic all the way through

A perfect brit pop debut with some punk and glam mixed in.

Love these boys, and this album will forever be associated with my mis-spent teens.

Definitely have to make a note to check out Life on Other Planets

Fucking ROCKS right out of the gate and just doesn't stop until it's over (OK, I admit the lollypop-guild-voice song was a little weird). Brit-pop vibes are here but drown in fuzz and flashing a lot more garage sensibilities than the later material I'm familiar with. I'm always a fan of first albums and this is a GREAT one!

I had a blast from start to finish. No two songs were alike, and they never dwell on one story for too long. Any of these songs Could've been someone's favorite song in the album. They covered a lot of different sounds, and really filled out the dynamics. I only wish that it was easier to understand the lyrics. Probably between the mixing and the accent that made it difficult. There was something really interesting going on in "She's So Loose". The way they played around with the tempo was very interesting.

What can I say except this album was absolutely great. I wish I had known this album existed when I was in my Brit rock bangers phase. Every song on the album was unskippable and had me foot tappin, bangin my head, or just simply drawn in. Fantastic in every way and I will be definitely adding Supergrass to my regular listening rotation.

Catchy choruses, high energy, all together fun. None of the tracks felt like filler, and nothing was too experimental. Feels like they focused on making good sound. Loved the harmonies and layered vocals going on. If I discovered this in high school I would have been jamming it a lot.

I Should Coco It’s interesting looking back at Britpop bands and albums from a 25-30 year distance. While I still like bands like Cast, who were solidly in the middle of the pack, there are a few bands who were part of it all but were in hindsight a bit different and more interesting than the rest of those bands. Supergrass are definitely one of them. That may in part be because we know where their career went after this, as they escaped the clutches of the Britpop bucket and went into various different directions. But listening to this I think you can clearly hear they had something that set them apart, whether that be a more diverse set of influences outside of the run of the mill 60s sounds people were trying to emulate, a heightened melodic sensibility or a slightly different perspective on lyrical subject matter. The playing is also a real point of difference: Exuberant, energetic, playful, fun and with a swing and suppleness that is in contrast to a lot of their contempories. The keyboard and piano also are excellent, again setting them slightly apart. Aside from the pure exiting pop of Alright, Caught by the Fuzz and Strange Ones, songs like Time and Sofa of My Lethargy show a maturity way beyond their years. And overall, the songs are consistently great, I can’t really think of any duffers apart from possibly We’re not Supposed to, and even that whizzes past in such a flurry it doesn’t really matter. I think it has to be a 5. It may not be a Sgt Pepper a Rumours or a K but it’s a fantastically thrilling album of rocky punky poppy music. Maybe it’s nostalgia and familiarity but for this type of album I don’t think you can get much better.
It's mad that they were 18 when they recorded this. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️

Listened once, didn't really get it. Turned it up on round two and really enjoyed this.

It simply exquisite album. Felt like the British version of MCR but with the same friendliness and fun of Electric Light Orchestra. When I say I saved every song to my playlist, I literally mean I saved every song. So nice, I listened to the whole thing twice. Had me bopping ready to take on the world. Led me to a great day yesterday.

Man this is a good find. Joyous, strong, pulsating. Ripping vocals. I don't have enough nice words. I'm sure others have. It's fun and I connect to it so well. It brings me back to my teenage tearaway years. Excellent! So happy to give this 5 stars. It's got all I want in an album. :)

Absolutely loved them

God, these guys have such a fresh youthful energy, you can tell theyre just making the music they want to hear. This album is such a pleasant surprise. definitely a high 4.5 to maybe 5, but need to listen to it more. Really awesome stuff

Britpop jangly punkish coolness.

Gem of an album by a pretty underrated band. Rawer more punk version of britpop. It sounds like the Vines playing Blur covers.

OMG I SHOULD COCO!!!! I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!! Great album!!! I love this album very much, its classic. The songs are well put together and I like the vocals!! I have to many favorites🫂💕💕

Energetic raucous rock record. I recognized one song but all the others were new. Never knew the name of the band. I’m a new fan. 5/5

Love this

Hot damn, what an album. Ferocious, tear-up-the-room, punk pop with a killer single and some fun, quirky deeper cuts. I loved it and was not prepared to do so. The drummer and bassist got full-body workouts on this one. Great songwriting, too. Reminds me a bit of Buzzcocks, only turned up to 11. Fabulous.

Blind album and artist, only know the hit 'Alright'. Wow this album blew me away. I was instantly sucked in and I loved it. This album is amazing and I loved the deep cuts just as much as the top song. Hard choices to pick a favorite track...

Very good, very energetic and has lots of good rock sounds

Before moving over here, I'd always assumed Supergrass were a one-hit wonder. "Alright" was a hit back home but I don't remember any of their other songs making it across the Atlantic. After listening to this, I find that fucking crazy. This album is brilliant. It would have been well received by me & my mates in the post-grunge mid-90s. I'm 100% certain we all would have loved this shit. In fairness, it still sounds awesome today. "Lose It" and "Lenny" are a great 1-2 punch that are in stark contrast to the genetic pop sound of "Alright". "Time" is my favourite song on the album. The long outro on "Sofa" reminds me of something The Doors would produce. And ending with "Time to Go" made listening to this from start to finish feel worthwhile; the way the band probably intended. "I Should Coco" is as good as anything I've heard from the Brit Pop era. This is a complete album. Supergrass are not the band I thought they were. Holy shit. 👍👍✌️❤️

Super good album, I'm not sure why I missed these guys the first time around. Excellent musicality, some reminiscent refrains but still original.

I loved this. I thought I would hate it because the cover art is trash and I HATE the song ‘Alright’… but it turns out that’s the only bad song on the whole album. I had no idea what genre it would be and I was not expecting it to be my taste. I added almost every song to my playlist. Amazing.

I had not heard of this band, however, I seem to remember hearing “Alright” before. Anyway, really enjoyed the entire album.

Will be returning to not only this album but I'll be exploring their discography to see what else I'm missing! Great energy, great lp! Added at least 7 tracks to our 1001 experience playlist

ahhhh i loved sm :D

I like British rock. Who knew?!

I thought it was going to be grungier like the Sex Pistols but was pleasantly surprised. Very fun guitar riffs, feels like the original/ British version of the late 90s/ 2000s misfits troupe.

LOVE this one! Definitely some good additions to my workout playlist.

This was phenomenal. Really great energy and feel to all tracks. I'm very surprised I've never come across this group before apart from Alright...this is exactly down my alley. Favorite track: Lenny

Wow I loved this. Sad I haven’t been listening to it since 1995

wow! what a great surprise! i knew the big song off of this one, but nothing else. to me this is like if oasis was primarily influenced by the kinks instead of the beatles. really fun, really eclectic, really frenetic. just an all around great, intense romp. kind of trails off at the end, but i think the rest of the album makes up for it.

Awesome stuff. It's a shame they feel into the britpop trend as they're way more talented and unique than that

I don’t ask for much. An OK voice, a snappy beat. That’s all I want. This album delivers that and more. A surprisingly fresh sound for an album that’s nearly 30 years old. This is definitely staying on my phone.

One of my favourite albums

The first song is hard to get into the album, but if you heard it twice it's a banger. Loved it

I really enjoyed this one! I thought that the music itself was all super fun, and I just liked the overall vibe. I was not expecting to know a song on this album, but there was "Alright." I am torn between 4 and 5 stars.

Superb album!

really loved this one!

My favorite yet, I liked almost every song on it. Had no idea Alright came from this

One of the many albums demonstrating why being a teen in the 90s ruled. Being a teen in other decades was probably fine, too. Whatever.

I said that their sophomore album was solid but had a certain "it" factor that was missing... I think I've found it. This was rompin', varied, energetic, and bursting with unbridled youth from start to finish.

Really good stuff, this has been the second time that Supergrass caught me by surprise.

What a great debut album. Masterful riffs

The best britpop album. Top tier stuff

Right up my alley. Only heard "Alright" before now, but the rest of the album whips hard as nails. Belter.

Love it

As great as the first time I heard it. Alright still a classic.

Classic British pop rock: I fucking love this album. Full of bangers and songs you can just sit back and vibe to. Opening with the song the horrible histories theme is based off and including all time classic “alright” giving me memories of the pirates stop motion animated film. Overall loved this record and will listen again.

10/10 absolutely amazing oh my god, I can’t tell you how much I love this

Such an excellent album. Soundtrack to our growing up families lives

Supergrass should have been bigger than Oasis - they had better songs and more talent, perhaps just lacked the swagger. This is a blindingly good debut. There are echoes of The Kinks, Beatles, Wire, The Ramones and The Jam in here, even a bit of Status Quo on 'Time'. Nothing describes youthful hijinks better than 'Caught by the Fuzz'. 'Alright' carries on the theme with it's honky tonk piano. 40 minutes of pure fun.

This album is just banger after banger. Ending is maybe a little bit less crazy and energetic but still very fun.

An album which came out when I was seventeen which pretty much describes my life at the time? How could this not be a 5? Friends and I listened to this to death before heading into town with a packet of Marlboro Lights and a bottle of cheap high-stength cider. Good times! It occurs to be that I still have the sideburns I probably grew under the influence of this record, although I've toned them down a bit. It's strong pop punk with the flavour of 90s Britain all the way through. Christ this album has a rejuvenating effect on me. I really should put it back in my regular rotation!

Here's another big local band I've never really given much of a listen to. In fact the only song I knew from this album was "Alright", a song I've heard so much but always thought was just "okay". I guess I had kind of accepted the band for their biggest songs. This album slapped throughout though - there were a lot of faster paced punk tracks that I absolutely wasn't expecting. It slowed down a bit at times but I still think this is a five star record. Additionally I think I listened to it the way it was intended to be listened to - driving with the windows down on a sunny Oxfordshire Thursday; it made for the perfect driving companion. How were Supergrass so underrated in the 90s britpop scene? Favourite: I'd Like To Know

тожк классика, но хит только alrigth

originally thought this was going to be a buzzcocks/jam/beatles tribute experience but lots of originality in the songwriting and great twists and turns make this a great listen due for repeat visits.

Very fun and electric UK punk. Many great songs and a common tempo throughout. Will listen more often!

This album was great, has made me a new supergrass fan!

I genuinely don't understand how Supergrass (or Franz Ferdinand while we're talking about it) could be considered Britpop when Britpop is so awful yet these albums shine so spectaculary. I remember when I got In It for the Money I was genuinely surprised how good it was, but this is even better. No song here is filler, and the shock of knowing a song, that being Alright, without actually knowing who it's by was a good kind of whiplash. Just genuinely super enjoyable. There may have been a small dip in the middle of the album, but not enough to hinder the album at all.

9/10 - Great album, already like supergrass and will listen again

classic

So imperial, and at such a young age. One of the most impressive and energetic debuts you can hear out there, especially if you're interested in brit-pop--savvy yet fresh and unpretentious, sophisticated yet rolling on all cylinders. Classy. Number of albums left to review: 736 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 131 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 65 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 69

Un de mes albums préférés de tout les temps

Good music

Off the bat very cool like the energy, like the vocals, very cool instrumental choices. really like the playfulness. Very memorable 8.5/10

Incredible vibes

喜欢最后两首歌。前面的太激烈了,不适合我
