Reviews (page 4 of 12)

I was already enjoying this album and then a song from Clueless came on (Alright) and that really sealed my rating.

Never heard of this artist. Really liked it. We’ll have one more from them in the 1,001.

Good but very samesy start, however the album just gets better as it progresses. I very much enjoyed my time while listening to and I feel like there is real skill and talent involved in constructing this album. Seems like an underrated band and I wish I would have heard more of them sooner. Will definitely continue listening to them and this abum.

4/5 The album had a bit of a boring start, with songs that sounded very similarly, but it soon melted into this wonderful mix of songs that I enjoyed immensely. I already knew 'Alright' from before, but I got blown away by the rest of this album. I'm jumping on the bandwagon and saying that Supergrass is underrated as fuck and needs more attention. I wish I could rate half points because 4 feels too low and 5 too high. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.

This album took me right back, a great album from the 90’s

These Brits absolutely know how to build a massive wall of sound. There are some fucking incredible Brit-Pop tracks here like "I'd Like To Know" and "Alright" and that opening run is pretty much Brit-Pop perfection. Then "Lenny" hits and just kills the momentum. Not unlistenable, just completely misplaced. The second half is still strong overall, but if they had ditched "Lenny" and "We're Not Supposed To", this thing would have been a flawless ride start to finish. "We're Not Supposed To" honestly sounds like it was recorded mid psychedelic meltdown with a mountain of cocaine nearby. Still, it’s a killer Brit-Pop record. Could have easily pushed into all-time territory without those two tracks. As it stands, it’s a very confident, very loud, very addictive 8.5/10.

дефінетлі більш моє ніж попередній альбом, + звісно знаю сингл з цього альбомчику послухаю його сьогодні кілька разів і подивимось як мені зайде!! адейт: воно

Great Indie Rock from the 90s. Fun album. Standout track is track 4: Alright.

No luck catching them swans then

I think I've liked this most of all the Britpop we've gotten to so far. It has definitely has more of a power-pop/pop-punk energy that is different than Oasis or Pulp and I'm here for it. Comes ripping right out of the gates with a few great tracks, and Alright (as the only song I already knew) is fantastic. Some weird moments that I actually quite liked such as We're Not Supposed To. A band that I had known about but never listened much to, and was pleasantly surprised.

Never really heard of this band or album going into listening. Up tempo! Solid intro Listened through Alright - definitely a song I recognize but never realized this is the band. Really like the start of this album - all of the songs so far are catchy and I like the tempo of the album. Enjoyed 'Shees so Loose" "Time" is a fun one! A little change up compared to other tracks. There are a lot of fun and catchy songs up and down the album! Just as good as some other British bands I have heard more about. I appreciate the energy the band plays with and I like some of the samples at beginning of songs etc. Will certainly look to listen to this one again.

Fun album

I think of In It for the Money as our listening group's first good discovery to come out of this project - it came up really early (our 9th album), nobody in our group was familiar with Supergrass, and everyone rated it a 4 or 5. So it's nice to welcome Supergrass back again a few hundred albums later. Mostly worth the wait - I liked this album (the chipmunky "We're Not Supposed To" aside). I hadn't known "Alright" was Supergrass so that was kind of a nice surprise.

Very fun and funky but not my usual vibe

This was a lot of fun, didn't take itself too seriously or make itself too much of a joke, a really nice balance and a good change of pace. I'll definitely revisit this one.

Great record. Somehow I missed them when they came out, even though I was definitely the target audience.

had a good time with this one, shes so loose is a real bop

I was surprised by how good this was. I previously had heard "In It for the Money" and thought it was awful. This one rocks

Ok this is a fun album. I knew the name Supergrass but never listened to them before. This is a fun as hell album. It's lively, up tempo. Just a bunch of fun tunes to listen to while driving.

What a pleasant surprise. I always regarded this band as a one-hit wonder (albeit a great hit) but never checked out their other material. This entire album is just as exciting and refreshing as its single, bridging sounds and sideburns from The Beatles and Mungo Jerry to acts like The Fratellis and Wolfmother.

I added quite a few of these songs to my playlist! This is the closest to my wheelhouse I’ve gotten so far. I had heard “alright” before but didn’t realize this was who that was. Favorite song was probably Sitting Up Straight

Låter väldigt bra, helt enkelt!

This is a really rockin’ album. I was expecting more of a poppy sound, but was pleasantly surprised. I definitely want to check out more of their stuff.

Senere britpop lavet af teenagere. Dyrker virkelig cool Britannia mentaliteten.

I'd heard of the band but didn't think I knew any of their music, but then I discovered I knew Alright. The album contains music in a number of different styles. I recognised The Beatles, Elton John and The Who influences but there were probably others too. Musically good and vocally OK too, but the vocals were too 'fuzzy' at times for me. All said, I didn't know Supergrass but I'm glad I've heard them and I'll look out for other albums by them now.

This is a great record. Enjoyed most of the tracks here, and most of them were upbeat and catchy. Favourite Track(s): I'd Like to Know, Mansize Rooster, Lose It, Strange Ones, Sitting Up Straight Least Favourite Track(s): We're Not Supposed To

Dark, intense, and brooding. 4

Bit like Ween though with lower diversity. Young, energetic, noisy, vivid and rambunctious. I love it! 4.3

Good stuff. Mix of pacing was great. Easy to get lost in.

This was released on my 15th birthday. I listened to it a lot. Signs of the great albums they were yet to release. Sounds like kids figuring out their sound. The ear for melody is there already though.

Bangs actually

This was the first album I've listened to since starting this a couple of days ago that I hadn't even heard of, though I definitely know the song "alright". I haven't listened to much 90s britpop but I enjoyed this album quite a bit, it's fun to listen to. I'll definitely be coming back to it.

Reminded me a bit of Black Flag and Bad Brains. Love the speed and playfulness. Is energetically misfit and feels like a good pre-surf album, need to listen more closely to lyrics. Not 5 starts cause honestly nothing hitting as hard as Alright. Maybe I'll find more tracks like that

Taaskin tuttu bändi lähinnä nimeltä. Tiesin tältä levyltä hitti-biisin ”Alright”. Bändin The Smiths coveri ”Some Girls are bigger than other” on bändin tutuin biisi mulle. Tää oli aivan hyvä levy.

Genre: Britpop This guy was right up my alley. High energy, Britpop flair, and power pop vibes. I enjoyed a good number of these tracks a lot, but Alright might be a new all-time fav of mine. An easy listen, and a rewarding listen. Had never heard of Supergrass, but I’m looking forward to learning more! 4/5

Album No. 0063 on my list. I’ve known a couple of songs from this album before and liked them. The rest of the album is equally good! “I Should Coco” is a solid album at the rougher, punk-esque end of Britpop and features some cool, fun 90s rock tracks. Everything’s pretty direct, pretty fun, mostly pretty short. “Caught By The Fuzz”, “Alright” (of course), and “Sofa of my Lethargy” are my favorites. 4/5 stars!

Pretty good. Not sure how I missed it

I was so ready to launch into my “I don’t like pop punk” review and then the album really surprised me. There was some really nice use of half time and broad triplets to break up the punk drone, and the back third was a true delight (highlight- sofa). Nice. This is what this exercise is all about

How about that, an album of the 1990s that I actually enjoy. Like everyone else I've heard Alright but the rest of this album plays. Nothing terribly innovative going on here but that doesn't matter if it as pleasant to the ear as this is. Making me a little curious as to what is in store for the rest of the Britpop, I just imagined it was Oasis and Oasis knockoffs.

Way more of a banger than I expected and had any right to be. The songs aren't just loud and simple, there is depth, variety, and fun throughout. Will definitely return to this, and I hate pop-punk

It’s a big 4 from me, vibes

Alright gets this a 4. Thats how much I like that song.

In general, I am prone to like post-punk though some bands are more difficult to like/appreciate than others (I am looking at you Oasis). This album took me a few listens to appreciate. But I am now definitely in the I like this band a lot. And will go out of my way to listen to some of their later albums. 4 stars.

Kinda fun

Fun album by a fun band that keeps getting better with age. 3.5/ 5

Surprisingly fantastic album

So, I loved it. Somewhere between British garage band, Fall colors, and teenage angst, this album completes a setup for where our late 1990s and early 2000s bands meet. Was surmised by the lyricality of some songs. Catchy songs that placed me into a nostalgic movie scene, complete with cuts around a busy city or musical montage? Yes please. Thanks for sharing, 1001albumsgenerator

I thought I'd never heard of this until Alright came on and then I realized I'd only ever heard Alright. If this had been shown to me in high school, I would've absolutely eaten this up. Even now, I'm kinda absolutely eating this up. It's got the raw british rock feel that I thoroughly enjoy despite my best efforts. This will probably shake up my rotation and my blue-coat ass hates to admit that.

Usually when I listen to these albums, I’m busy doing something with work, driving, playing a game, etc. At least on the first listen. Imagine my surprise as I started humming along with the songs in the middle of the album. If my subconscious liked it that much, I figured I needed to give it another go. Had a ton of fun with this, and I only disliked the one song where they talked like kids bc it triggered my misophonia. Honestly feeling a 4.5 to 5 on this.

This was fun. "Alright" was the only song I had previously heard from this album, shoutout How I Met Your Mother. It's crazy how much this influenced the early Arctic Monkeys, whom I love. The jam on "Sofa (Of My Lethargy)" was pretty crazy, defintely a standout for me. I'll be back to this one.

A fun album that reminded me of my youth

Yes! Some power pop fun. This is a band I skipped when they were around. I actually didn't know I had heard them until "Alright" came up. That song was everywhere back in the day. Lots of hooks and raw energy. The first half of the album holds most of the "pop" numbers. "Caught by the Fuzz" and "Mansize Rooster" are the most notable for me. Back half of the album is more musically interesting. Great stuff. My favorites: "Lose It" and "Sitting Up Straight."

Some of the middle is a little too boring (read: punk meh-lodies) but the rest makes up for it, particularly Alright and the last 5 songs, of which Sofa is my personal fave. 3.5 stars rounding up to 4.

Yup, I liked it! I heard several songs from this album already in the past, so here I am :)

This was a fun discovery of 90’s punk pop. Will explore more of the Supergrass catalog!

Previously rated: #200 - In It For The Money (3/5) ****************************** Album #945 I don't remember what their previous album sounded like, but I gave it a 3, so this one was better. A little punk, a little pop, it sounded older than 1995 for sure. I did recognize the song Alright, probably from a TV commercial. This was a pretty good album. The slightly grating vocals could have become an issue if the album was longer.

Frenetic. High energy. This was a fun album. “Alright” I recognized immediately. The music doesn’t demand your attention and can be enjoyed as a backdrop in the background.

From the opening I thought this will be fun. Really enjoyed it and it didn’t seem to me like what I think of as 1995. Some of it felt older and other parts newer. It had a familiarity to it, I think that was because of where they drew inspiration for their melodies.

Great britpop album, seems harder rock than most and really enjoyable

Good album. Has that song from the advert on it.

A fun find! Surprised this came out in 95; it sounds like such a 2000's album. I'm into it.

Full of energy, genuinely excellent songwriting and instrumentation. Sounds like a group of kids playing their heart out for crowds of 100 in shitty dive bars. Some of the best shows I’ve ever been to fit that bill. I’m almost 30 and this taps into my brain in all the oozing nostalgic, teenage rebel I never was type of ways.

Enjoyed this!

One major banger + an assortment of minor ones... fun!

i thought In It for the Money was a pretty good album, let's see how this measures up I'd Like to Know - 4/5 Caught by the Fuzz - 4/5 Mansize Rooster - 5/5 Alright - 5/5 Lose It - 5/5 Lenny - 4/5 Strange Ones - 5/5 Sitting Up Straight - 4/5 She's So Loose - 4/5 We're Not Supposed To - 3/5 Time - 4/5 Sofa (Of My Lethargy) - 4/5 Time to Go - 3/5 Average score: 4.2/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ pretty good. i liked this about equally to the other album i heard some months ago (and they scored pretty similarly)

Raw, energetic, chaotic, distorted, energetic, alive. Unlike some pop punk albums, its musically interesting and authentic. Definitely makes you feel young and free. The whole album really stands up and the tunes are fun and catchy. Favourite track - Mansize Rooster or She's So Loose. 8.5/10

The substance isn't deep but very enjoyable, just as you think you've heard it they change things up. It has a teenage juvenile quality, full of urgency and tongue in cheek. But the instrumentals aren't simple either. Perfect 4 territory, fun but flawed.

A nice listen, tracks flow nicely

This was a lot of fun. Had no clue what I was in for but there wasn’t a bad song on the album

Great, your annoying little brother and his group of friend started a Britpop band and now they’re making perennial power pop/pop punk-whatever anthems for other dirtbags teens. Can’t write for shit, but that’s “alright” since the music doesn’t need it to have a good time. If Oasis and Blur were the Beatles and Stones of their scene, then Supergrass must be the Monkees. Favorite Tracks: I Like to Know, Caught by the Fuzz, Alright, Strange Ones, Sitting Up Straight, Time, Sofa (of my Lethargy)

I had never heard this album before, but it's rockin'! Added to my collection for future listening for sure.

Musical equivalent of a vodka red bull. Not the kind of thing i could play on repeat but feel like i’ll always enjoy it whenever I do.

Some bangers here. I was only familiar with Diamond Hoo Ha, which apparently is considered their weakest album.

Ganz gut

Fav Song: Alright

This record took some time to grow on me except for the track Alright which I’ve always liked.

It kind of wonders with the last couple songs, but overall a solid britpop record.

This was really good. A few songs at the end kept it from being a 5 for me but it was real close.

Really enjoyed this, would spin again.

Whata fun album. I never thpught Supergrass would offer such a round britpop album 4/5

Quite liked this one. Already knew and loved Alright.

Why these dudes aren't selling out stadia on the level of Oasis to this day is beyond me. But what the hell do I know, I was under the impression they were an American band for the longest time til I actually heard them. Supergrass is funny, clever and they play they shit out of punky, punchy rock songs. Their best song isn't even on this album, but that just means you get to discover more.

7.9/10 had no idea that i was so familiar with so many songs of theirs. i only was able to listen to it once, but i would definitely revisit. very nice

Really liked this one!

A welcome antidote to Suede.

Banging

1995 Purchased back in the day, and I must confess to still loving it. Enjoyed giving this a spin again. An alternative and far more creative side to the Britpop era. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★★☆ (7/10)

As a 90s teen, it would be impossible to not recognize Alright by Supergrass. I mean, as if!?! I’m just totally bummed now that I didn’t bother to take more interest in the band than Cher Horowitz did in her driving. This is the kind of album where it doesn’t even matter what they’re saying because the delivery just rocks. The short, explosive songs feel like fever dreams in the best way, while the more mellow ones give a bit of respite. The musicianship is tight and the rhythms are intoxicating. The album feels like it mellows toward the end, but I enjoyed that as a natural progression in energy flow. I’m beginning to realize I’m apparently a pretty big Britpop fan. “To thine own self be true!”

Finally, the author of this book has selected a good punk band. Now I have to rate it 5 stars so that it looks like I don't hate punk lol.

Pretty fun

I've definitely heard Alright before. A nice and bright bopper built around a plonky bit of repetitive piano and a dancey bass line that calls to mind Bowie and the Beatles simultaneously. Singer sounds a hell of a lot like Supertramp on this one -- almost uncanny. Lenny is a fun little ripper made for driving to. Sofa (Of My Lethargy) was a very enjoyable bit of pop-psychedelia that gave way to a dripping instrumental jam session. I'd say that this along with The Verve and Happy Mondays make for a streak of solid brit-pop, with some strong psychedelic influences. This one averaged good-to-great throughout and I wouldn't mind another tour through. For that I'm giving this a soft 4.

I definitely know this Alright song from a commercial or something. We're Not Supposed To is a bad trip inducing song. Sofa (Of my Lethargy) is a standout. Great track. I appreciate that is got weird and didn't stay classic Britrock/pop. Nothing was mind blowing but definitely enjoyed this. Low 4.

Another solid album. I always forget that Supergrass have a harder sound than their singles catalogue would suggest and it's great

The kind of music 14 year old aspires to like. I knew Alright already but the rest was new. Super energetic and edgy, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not. Overall fun, makes me want to make bad decisions.

Good album

I saw Supergrass run through most of the songs from this on their 30th anniversary tour this summer and let me tell you, nothing makes a field of middle aged Englishmen feel young again quite like the piano riff from Alright. This is a cracking album and the first 4 songs are particularly brilliant and yet completely distinct. The album does bog down a bit about 2/3 of the way in before picking up for Sofa of my Lethargy But it’s the type of album you can only make when you’re as young as Supergrass were when this came out. It’s probably also best enjoyed if you’re listening to it at that age as well

Very fun, great energy

I can’t claim to be the biggest Supergrass fan but I was very into this at the time and I still come back to it occasionally. A perfect distillation of Britpop, full of reverence yet also wearing its own heart on its sleeve, the collection of songs defies the mere 18 years of its principle songwriter Gaz Coombes who would go onto prove this wasn’t a fluke over a number of decades with The band and his solo work. It’s a fun album that’s aged really well and is packed with a youthful energy that perfectly captures that moment in time but also, any time and this wouldn’t sound out of place if it came out last week. _Alright_ is perhaps the fly in the ointment, as it’s been far too overplayed, although I DON’T have the disdain for it that many do.

A fine album, well done. It doesn't really bring anything new, but it is well constructed. Some fun pop garage rock kind of sound. Give it a go.

Rating: 7.5/10 What a fun, groovy album. Really enjoyed the punk influence which made the songs have this infectious vibe to them. Definitely better than their other album on the list.

Spätsommerpunk

Favorite Track: Alright

este álbum me ha gustado mucho xd

British proto-white-stripes with harmony? and a bass guitar?? sign me up

22/09/2025 This was a relatively okay album and what i needed while on holiday in Tunisia. What a dive! Spotify listeners:

Great songs, short album.

Fun angsty brit-pop.

Forgot how much fun Supergrass are. Great album

Had to listen to this twice to rate it. It’s a really fun time from start to finish. For people who can connect some memories to this one, it can definitely be a 5 star record. For me it’s a solid 4

This is a real where you've been on my whole life kind of moment. These guys are like if the white stripes and oasis had a baby. And that baby rocked

liked it more than what I expected

i like, some good ones, upbeat, inoffensive

I actually really enjoyed listening to this album in full! I’d only heard ‘Alright’ before so it was nice to listen to more of their music. This album is right up my alley because I love alternative and indie music so I was digging it the entire time. I would definitely jam out to this album again in the future!

Wow. Incredible interesting and enjoyable. I thought it was early skate rock at first. But turns out it was britpop. Not on my bingo card there. Will revisit for sure

As someone who missed the '90s, "Britpop" is an alien genre to me. (Though I can totally hear the influence of, say, The Kinks.) This...seems like a pretty good example of it? The only song familiar to me was "Alright", because it got discovered by advertisers five or ten years ago. I mostly get it. I don't love it, but that's very much a "not my genre" thing.

Didn’t realize I knew one of the songs!

a bit uneven, but worth checking out. Love the artwork, too. I am regularly coming back to this.

#116/1001. Since rhe band really wants to know, here are some places the strange ones go to: - abandoned nuclear icebreaker harbours - Polish milk bars - Nightclubs where you can sing Karaoke - old water towers - nearly abandoned villages in Estonia countryside - sauna (often) - North of 70° - Russian war memorials - Under the Eiffel tower - Last bus home - Reindeer round-up places - Forest paths you shouldn't bike on with a bike - Old mining sites - Iceland, especially places where a hot river and a cold river meet to swim - Somewhere else than a Supergrass gig However, I can only tell from my experience. Nice pop alternative album from a band which doesn't take itself to seriously, always a pleasure to find an artist like that.

Enjoyed this. Like a mix of The Kinks, The Clash, and The Killers

Good! 4.25

i think this is one i can objectively appreciate a lot. don’t think it’s one i’ll particularly get into, but i’ll probably come back to it as working music. i like mansize rooster, i like the harmony in the ‘why you lookin so crazy’ line. big fan of the guitar on ‘time’. for some reason i had ‘alright’ stored as a song by ‘fun.’

Heard of them, thought I didn't know any of their songs but actually 'Alright' is iconic, I just didn't know it was them. Fun energy, I enjoyed, happy to hear them again, but I don't think I'd seek out more of them again? Reminded me of bands like Kaiser chiefs I used to hear bits of in the early noughties.

Great first track. Starting strong with a 4. Lovely album. Great britpop. Like madness, with less ska. I didn’t know that Alright was a track on here or by them, which is a 5. Overall a 4.

I wasn't buying too many albums at the time this came out, so I only heard the singles, although there are quite a lot of them. It didn't really hit home quite how good this was until I listened to the whole thing.

Great blend of hooks and energy

Just a ton of fun.

New to me and I like it.

Fun garage influenced britpop.

Actually - pretty solid. Knew not of them, but starts out bouncing and energetic. You have heard "Alright" [ I had no idea who did that song]. Actually get 1 point of the surprise element

3.9 2nd Supergrass album and to be honest it's yet again pretty solid. Cracking first 30-40 minutes or so, I think the overplayed Alright is actually one of the weaker ones. Seems to run out of steam at the end, We're not supposed to shatters what was a good run and it struggles to climb to those heights again thereafter. Still, it makes me wonder why these guys were (or seemingly to me at least) never as big as a lot of the other 90s Brit bands that have made it on to here, when they clearly have as much if not more talent.

Калейдоскоп из 90-х. В который раз замечаю, что звук 90-х мне близок и понятен.

Good Brit pop!!!!

Whoa, only knew one song, but this album kind of ripped. Never heard of these guys before.

The soundtrack to every British coming-of-age film I swear

Solid album great sound few quality songs 4.3

p761. 1995. 4 stars. Fabulous mid 90s energetic Brit pop, packed with great tunes, sharp lyrics and a sense of humour.

Starts out really fun, and continues to be upbeat and high energy. Interesting sound, alternative the way I like it. Favs: I'd Like to Know, Strange Ones

thoroughly enjoyed listening

This is great! What a nice discovery. I've heard Alright from a show or movie or something, so I recognized that, but the rest was still above par.

bastante buono

4.5 me re gustó

Loved it!! Fun rock

Great album already had in my collection

Not heard this album before, although I have heard a couple of the songs including 'Alright' which is still a very popular song thirty years later.

I was reminded again of how much I’ve been sleeping on Supergrass, since I’ve really only listened to Alive. We’ve covered In It for the Money before, and I was surprised by how different it sounded compared to what I was expecting. I had the same experience this time. Instead of a bland pop album, I got a punk-driven record full of energy and cool riffs. Just the right balance of abrasive and cool. 4 stars.

What if Fuzzy Logic was English and made by sugar addicts. That was actually so good. Top 5 album on this gen probs

cocomelon

Hell yeah! Broke the curse of like 50 consecutive ass Brit rock albums. Love the dudes voice and the songs were super smart and fun and catchy. Loved the last song too

I listened to this album plenty when it came out and I'd forgotten how fun it is. It does tail off towards the end and Alright was massively overplayed and feels trite, but the first three tracks on I Should Coco put me in a great mood. A high four.

All day I have been comparing this to Crime of the Century and I have just now realised that that was Super✨tramp✨ and this is Super✨grass✨. Whoops! I wondered when Alright was going to come up! Anyway I guess the review I had in my head is being edited from "I prefer this to the previous Supergrass album" to "I prefer Supergrass to Supertramp". ... I never said I was going to be GOOD at this.

Great record! Somewhere between Oasis and the Beatles in sonic landscape. I’ll listen to this one again.

This group had escaped me, so I was not sure what I was going to get, even though I thought I had gotten the gist of the 'Britpop' movement. This is a great record- energy and hooks, high spirits and young fun. I experienced it as a kind of a Cheap Trick-ish power pop for the grunge generation. Could see this being an influence on the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Strokes, etc.

A pretty good album, I really liked the music style. I liked I'd Like To Know, Caught By The Fuzz, Alright and We're Not Supposed To the most.

Fun. First time I heard supergrass

Incredible energy matched with really nice riffs and a nice mix of different instruments and styles. This is an example of an album that is very different to what the big hit single would have you believe, the songs were catchy yet found a way to change it up throughout to not make it boring. The energy died down for the final 4 songs which was a cool way to bring the energy down and end the album (even had an outro dong to say goodbye), i think they are much better with the quick tempo style though, although i fid really like the second last song. Favourites: I’d like to know, caught by the fuzz, mansize rooster, strange ones, sitting up straight, she’s so loose and sofa (of my lethargy). Overall, 8/10.

I used to own a Supergrass ironing board cover but it wore out from too much ironing … 5 stars for imaginative early 2000s merch stall goodies … 4 stars for the album 😀👍

I really enjoyed the previous Supergrass album, In it for the Money (maybe the title? I'm too lazy to look it up) and I liked this one better. The cover of the album is almost as abhorrent as the cover for the King Crimson album that I loved (but hated the cover), yet isn't quite on that level. Whoever approved this album cover should be, and I don't want to be too dramatic, drawn and quartered. As a fan of the Kooks, I hear a lot of Supergrass influence on the Kooks first two albums here. I mean, it's uncanny how much their sound was influenced by this album. They may as well have called themselves "Superkooks." The vocals on We're Not Supposed To are a little off-putting as it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I really enjoyed this album outside of the 1-2 songs I already knew. I can't really suggest individual songs because I enjoyed most of them. Recommended.

I Should Coco is a banger. The Cardiacs influence is huge, especially on the earlier songs. Boundless energy, unexpected musical turns and hooks galore. Alright is the massive hit and deservedly so, but Lenny, Mansize Rooster, I'd Like To Know, Caught By The Fuzz, Strange Ones and She's So Loose could all have been massive hits. Another that would get a 9 if allowed, it'll have to be a 4.

These guys are so British. I like that in a British singer, for them to actually have an accent instead of it disappearing when they sing. The album itself is pretty good, I love their energy and overall sound. Bonus points for making a really good song about what cops can do to a person.

fun album of brit pop with punk energy.

3.8 Stars So British. Britpop. Fast A lot of the same energy/tone throughout. High energy distorted guitar sounds. Shouting or singing? Best Song: "Alright" Worst Song: "We're Not Supposed To"

I believe I gave the last Supergrass album on here a 4.5 and I have to do that again! It’s just really fun stuff. Like solid pop. Which reminds me a bit of bands like OK Go, The Strokes etc. Just poppy and cruisy. Alright is a hugely famous banger but there are heaps of great ones to enjoy here, especially I’d Like to Know and Mansize Rooster.

This was fun, and reminded me a lot of more recent British pop rock bands I like. Very punchy and upbeat. I don't think I'll go back and relisten to it, but rating a solid 3.8 for an enjoyable time.

High energy debut

I like the energetic and rapid tempo 4/5

Very fun and electric album, I would also like to know where the strange ones be going rofl

Never heard them outside of the Alright song which is not super indicative of their sound and is too bad. I would not have imagined this was the band who released that song and I'm glad because this album is great!

Fun album. Sort of an British rather than Ausie Fratellis. Seems like an influence to them.

Absolute classic of my youth. We’re not supposed to and strange ones are go tos here outside of the singles.

Had no idea this was the artist for Alright. I've heard that song many times before. I love me some upbeat, punk, Britpop. About halfway through, I found myself enjoying each song more and more. What's better than some pop punk on a Friday to get the weekend going? Also, this makes me want to play Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 on PS2. (4.5/5) P.S. the cover art pisses me off for some reason. (Not going to let it influence my rating though) Favorites: - Caught By The Fuzz - Mansize Rooster - Alright - Lose It - Sofa Of My Lethargy

Det hørtes ut omtrent som forventa, ikke nokka for mæ, men på ingen måte fornærmanes.

Bangers like Baba O Riley and Behind Blue Eyes here with some fine other songs. Very much enjoyed it!

Cool! Never heard of them. Will listen again.

Playlist from Supergrass is ‘Alright’ I hear lots of sonic influences from the Smashing Pumpkins to the Stone roses. Vocals me a little of Jack White or Black Francis. Great listen.

I miss alternative music. This is so fucking good. And it's not even a favorite artist of mine. It's great through and through.

Highlight Song/s: I'd Like to Know, Mansize Rooster This is some really nifty punk; nice garage backing track mixed with some keyboards alongside melodic vocals. I am a big fan of the vocals on 'I'd Like to know' especially the backing. The lead singer's voice reminds me of either Gary Numan or Syd Barret, or perhaps a combination of. The novelty of this album started wear off by the last couple of songs, but it still is a good one.

Brit pop? Doesn’t sound like it to me! After listening to this around 4~ times I ended up really enjoying it. I’m still a little miffed about getting 4 British artists in a row but… It’s very youthful, very full of energy, a little brooding but resplendent with teenage energy that shines outward rather than turning inward. It’s a lot of fun. However, the second half falls off kinda hard. Still a great showing from what was such a young band. 3.5+.

If Britpop was an attempt to recover the British musical legacy for a new generation then these Oxonians were mostly after the Sex Pistols specifically - affected snotty accents, lyrics about being outcasts, lots of cymbals from Danny Goffey. It mostly works, with occasional forays into Jaggerism (like on "Strange Ones") - even though these guys are too good technically to restrain themselves to simple onetofreefores (see the aforementioned "Strange Ones"). I don't know yet whether it signifies as anything beyond just competent flattery. Sometimes that's all you need, I suppose - "Alright" will be in ads long after we're all dead.

Kind of like a blend of Britpop meets 60s British Invasion, fun record with plenty of catchy songs.

A little too much on the high end at times. But i’m a big fan. It’a good to switch it up from the normies music

As people have mentioned, this is an album that grows on you. The first 3 songs don't do the rest of the project justice. Alright and Time are absolute bangers. Great blends of many different genres on this one. One of those albums where no matter who you are, you can find something that you at least kind of like on here. Would have never found it if it weren't for this list. That being said, many songs on here that I would have cut from the final product. 7/10

really unique! haven’t heard anything like this. has a bunch of different types of sounds here and is overall just a really solid record

siiiiick i had no idea Alright was by this group lol

Super fun. Very 2000 album but love the sound here.

i’m rounding up on my review for this because it’s so surprisingly refreshingly better than a lot of the other britpop on here. fun album

Fire punk

Actually so fresh, upbeat and well crafted tunes! Catchy and forward music, very cool

A simultaneously underrated and overexposed band who did a shit lot more good stuff than the supremly bouncy "Alright" would suggest. Almost more Punk than Britpop, certainly more so than their contemporaries. Just 100mph in your face fuzzy music here, loved it.

enjoyed the album throughout, energy was high but at least 3 of the songs sound almost the same? would revisit tho. 3.5-4/5

Definitely fun; high energy, cheeky, catchy in bursts.

3.5 stars I had never knowingly listened to Supergrass before. Whenever I saw the band name I think I assumed they were Superchunk or Supertramp. But this pop punk/britpop band that was a contemporary of Oasis and Blur- I wasn’t really aware. So this was a nice first listen. I enjoyed the raw energy and speed of their music. It reminded me of their influences of Buzzcocks and the Who. While there is some inconsistency with the quality of the songs, they may grow on me with more listens. So my rating is in a first impression, which is that I enjoyed it and will certainly return to this.

Fun album! Deff some shitty fillers in there, but also some bangers. Love alright

junge britpop einfach beste Zeit gewesen.

I listened to this album a bunch when it first came out so much so that I have become a bit sick of ‘Alright’ so I was a bit hesitant when I saw this come up today. But I needn’t have worried, it’s still a great album 30! Years later and I actually enjoyed ‘Alright’ when it came out on. 😂

If you like the Ramones or Weezer .....this could be for you.

Listened to deluxe remaster, not original; like it a lot and it reminds me of 80s rock in the best way

Very good

A 90's classic. Takes me back to the Reading festival.

This goes pretty hard, excellent britpop

*Sounds like British Green Day. *Dave says it sounds like The Monkees. I guess - British and there's a little 60s/70s musical stylings in there? *Alright (Track #4) - We know this one! Never heard of Supergrass, and didn't realize this was their song. *Fave Track - Time (Track #11). Sounded a little more mature than most of the album. *Overall I liked the genre, but this felt like the band's first album (it is) and not refined at all. You can tell this is an early effort. *I'm so glad there's an edit feature now! I've listened to this album quite a number of times since the initial listen, and now I quite like it. RATING - 7.5/10

This album fucks.

Only knew Alright before and was really suprised by this awesome brit rock/pop record with so much energy and yet a few changes of pace within. Greatly enjoyed this one!

Che bell'album, particolare ma potente.

Good recommendation

I mean I love it but I don’t think I can be objective when given a band like this

Killer first 16 seconds

It's a familiar style, but has a bounce and playfulness that I can't resist.

Great Brit pop, better than Oasis more expansive musically and much more fun.

Kinda weird when the minions showed up but otherwise this album is pretty fantastic

My autocorrect is utterly convinced that I’m trying to type “Superclass”. And, you know what? Fair enough. In a more just world, we’d autocorrect the entire 90s so that Supergrass were de rigueur everyone’s favourite band. “I Should Coco” is, unfortunately for us today, that good an album. The first half’s electric eclecticism welds post-punk’s tuneful passions (Buzzcocks, Gang of Four) to buoyant dancehall rhythms with such singular conviction that comparisons to Queen feel within reach (not that Supergrass sound like Queen; more that they’re able to do pretty much whatever they want and do it well). Using side two to showcase, literally, “a whole new side to the band” feels like the sort of meta Supergrass would revel in, so I’ll continue to think it a purposeful act of expectation subversion. “I should Coco” did, of course, actually do very well in its time. “Alright” was a hit big enough to have left its mark on a six year old me – certainly the grimaces in the video did, anyway (Fleur attests to the same) – and Supergrass’ career panned out in probably exactly the way it was supposed to. There were awards, major songwriting accolades and subsequent chart successes that seemed to develop in parallel with their initial audience (“Moving” is a gorgeous song; you can well imagine a kid who once pogoed along to “Caught by the Fuzz” listening to it on the Sunday morning kids football run). But even still … you can’t help but think the collective memory has forgotten them that bit too quickly. Victims, perhaps, of never having been in the same tabloid-courting rock n’roll star mould as some of their supernova contemporaries. Victims of their own Superclass, if you like.

How have I never heard of them before? This rocks Best Song: Alright Rating: 8/10 (Excellent) Stars: 4/5

I’d like to know Mansize rooster Alright

Excellent album, surprising turns around every corner

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this album. I was initially surprised by the punk-like opening song, but I loved the variety of sounds. A very enjoyable listen.

Great energy on this. Always was a cut above the landfill britpop that was doing the rounds at the time

Pretty good.

I lot a good sounds here, some parts were a tad boring but they changed up the songs constantly so anyone listening could be kept entertained. Definitely a talented band and of course we all know Alright, a timeless hit, never heard the full song before this but I’m glad I did because it’s my highlight from this album.

4 out of 5. Enjoyed the energy on this album.

Let’s get weird

Są lepsze zespoły rockowe. Ta płyta jest nieco powyżej przeciętnej. Ratuje ją wielki hit Alright, We’re not supposed to i ostatni kawałek, który wycisza i nie przebodźcowuje. Cała reszta trochę myli ostre granie z hałasem. Naiwne to trochę. 6.5/10 równane w górę.

It was a little mixed. There was some filler, but inside there were some genuinely great ideas on here. Favorites were she's so loose, alright, and time to go. Prob an 8 or 7.

A really solid album, enjoyable start to front, quite solid poppy-ish British rock. A definite listen

Thank goodness for some '90s British alt-rock that distinguishes itself from Oasis. Britpop with a punk rock sheen, strong hooks, and dynamic production. The Kinks if they would spit on you. (This is complimentary.)

Oh wow I actually knew a song on this one. When I got their second album earlier in this project, I thought they must've been a lesser known group in America, and I certainly didn't recognize their name or anything I read about them. I liked a few songs immediately on here. Listening to this is making me want to revisit their second album. Really liked this.

4 absolute classic again, sounds of my youth and first lads holiday

liked songs: all except for We're Not Supposed To I was very pleasantly surprised by this album. Tight, compentent, catchy songwriting, fun and interesting bass lines, and a uniqueness that I can't quite describe. 4

Yeh enjoyable album which is unlucky to miss out on the 4 star total. 7/10

Noisy Brit-pop. It's fine. Fun if you're in the mood for it. Annoying if you're not!

Album No. 3 Coming into this, I'd never heard of Supergrass. I enjoyed the sound tone and production of the songs. I liked the uniqueness of some songs like Sofa (Of My Lethargy) and it was an enjoyable album in a genre I'm not used to (UK punkish kind of music). I would rate it a solid 3.5 if I could but I'll put it as a 4. Favourites: - I'd Like to Know - She's so Loose - Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

Música para romper ventanas. 8/10

I wasn't sure what to expect here, but I'm pleasantly surprised. It's fun and not long enough to get Superannoying. Not really my thing, but it's almost my thing? If you like this, check out a Welsh band called The Bug Club.

Never heard of the album but liked it a lot. Played it twice. Liked over half the songs on the album.

High paced, energetic, frantic and fun. I loved this album when it came out and I was a regular at live gigs of this ilk, though 30 years later I feared I was going to get quickly weary of the pace and power o remembered I should coco delivering. Thankfully I’d overlooked the musicianship which raised it above the post punk crowd. Clear Blur and Suede influences are underpinned by nods to the stones on the laconic “Time” and a fine psychedelic jam on “Sofa of my lethargy” which counterbalance the energetic attack of the early tracks. It’s a fab album, fun and fearless which made me smile, and which brought back floods of memories of a time when life was simpler and more reflective than it is these days.

Very nice album, starts very upbeat, sounds kind of like 90s indie rock something sonic youth and ends up a bit more quiet, the last song reminded me like how animals from pink floyd ends, giving it a nice quiet closing. I would listen to it again

It’s kinda bland. But I guess it’s my kind of bland

An album and band that I’d never heard of. I typically groan when I get, yet another, 90s british popish band assigned to me. This album was a pleasant surprise and kept me entertained. It’s enjoyable. Nothing magical, but a good album front to back. I’m torn whether to give it a 3 or 4. One one hand, I think it deserves more than a 3, but on the other, putting it at a 4 puts it with some company outside of its league. It’s a real solid 3.5-3.7.

Love their later releases more, still this one is solid

I kind of missed these guys in the 90s - everyone was talking Oasis and Blur when I think they ought’ve been talking Supergrass. Imaginative, energetic, clever, harkening back to the 60s British vibe yet running along with Nirvana and the like. Thanks Mr 1001

Not a bad album. I enjoyed it.

"I'd Like To Know" damn what an insane to start an album with. You directly catch the vibe of the rest of the album. "Mansize Rooster" I looooved the song but the beginning in particular the riffs are sooo cool !! "Alright" is obviouslyyyyyyy a hugeeeee classiiiiic, this is the kind of song which gives you good vibes energy. "Strange Ones" is a huge banger as well. A bit less fan of the last few songs from the album but really enjoyable in general. Almost a 5.

Super high energy, super cool!! 4/5 i enjoyed it a lot unrelated, but "Moving" from their other album is SO good 4.5/5

I suppose I place Supergrass in the second tier of britpop bands... Oasis, Blur and Pulp are a bit of a cut above the others, but this is brilliant on a retrospective listen Full of energy, vibrancy, fun and catchy hooks. The bouncy keyboard and Beatles-y harmonies do give them their own sound. Just when you think it might slow down after the smash hit Alright, you get the album's heaviest track Lose It which is a rocker! Musically it's not super groundbreaking, and the last 3-4 tracks relegate it from 5 to 4 for me. But it's a frenetic and enjoyable album

It's no Blur but it's still pretty good

please remaster this cover

3.5 stars. I think it could improve on further listens. I like “Alright” and some of thr other songs towards the end.

This is 1995! First few tracks are amazing.

Gute Energy, bisschen Goofy Best: I'd Like To Know, She's So Loose

Very strong 4. Only issue is that I had it on repeat all day and I started getting tired of it (which is probably my own fault).

Very good album

Super! Great album from start to finish!

Using old and new elements to create a fresh, fun sound in an era where music was going in a completely different direction. I see what you did and I like it. 3.8

I forgot about these guys. Really fun rocking brit...pop? Whatever they are, good times.

So it turns out I knew Alright. Had no idea! But this is a surprising ripper. Super super tight. Why have i never heard of this before? A lot of head nodding happening even to the end of the record with Sofa of My Lethargy(what a track name). I wonder if this is a band I heard of maybe in the early 2000s at summer camp but just totally forgot about. Might deserve another play through. Yeah...this was fuckin awesome. Great record. 10/10 reccomend

I think this album might be a rare exception where I’m not a fan of the hit single. Granted, I think that’s because I heard it in a commercial before, so I’ll blame capitalism on that. But for real, it felt a little too upbeat for me personally. But fortunately, this album offered a lot more than the hit single. This was a truly unique album, having a lot of young energy, but without a lot of the angst common in the nineties. It feels like if the Kinks had the youth and vitality of a 90’s pop punk band. It’s a shame I never really heard of this band before now. Though, I could have done without the weird Chipmunk vibe of We’re Not Supposed To. Favorite track: Strange Ones Other hits: Caught By The Fuzz, I’d Like to Know, Lose It, Lenny, Time, Time to Go

likes: mansize rooster, lose it, time shocked when the song alright came on, had no idea who sang it but was pleasantly surprised to hear that song I enjoyed this way more than I expected! It sounded like a punk band that actually had a lot more nuance to them. Will probably go out of my way to listen to them again!

I hadn't heard of this band before but I really enjoyed this!

I dont know how/why i missed this when it came out! Far superior to any of their subsequent output, imo. Great one to start the day with.

Loading up i should coco straight after listening to lottery winners koko for the first time haha. It's gonna have to work hard to complete ngl I know one supergrass song and am ambivalent towards it. BAM horrible histories theme . I know two supergrass songs. I like all of these more than Alright so far.. I'm not going nuts over any of them but this is currently sounding like an album that hits on like the 6th listen Ah there it is. Sticking out like a sore thumb. It is a perfect version of what it is tbf. There's something old-schooly grungy going on here that is distinguishing them a bit from the most base britpop.. however i can draw a straight line from this to some of the worst 00s blokey pop but like in the same way that shrek caused the emoji movie. Not shrek. Parklife is shrek. This is like. Madagascar. You can tell im mostly just bored bc what the fuck am I talking about. Actually I'm drawing a line to the fratellis a bit and well. Shrek also caused the lego movie. I like Madagascar BTW. Oh its definitely gonna hit on the 6th listen i just got to Sitting Up Straight and sat up straight. That's more the fuck like it. Start of we're not supposed to is giving me misophonia summet rotten. The whole thing is. Is someone fucking chewing in the background. That's a shame bc its the weirdest song so far but I want to gip. I'm gonna struggle to rate this before I've listened another 5 times I feel like I could really come to like it. V. Varied, a little heavier than my favourite britpop*, reminds me of moodier blur in places. Mostly on the bass which is a compliment bc cheese wanker is fucking good. *my favourite and least favourite music is all britpop. It's not a genre so much as one specific edition of the brit awards (you know.) What the fuck is this beatles ending lmao. Fair fucks I like this album. I'm gonna go for that 6th listen eventually bc it's gonna hit.

The cover looks a bit creepy. I liked "Alright" the music is fun and upbeat. The lyrics are good. In general the song is great. "Caught by the Fuzz" was good. I liked the instrumentation. The music was kind of explosive. I liked the lyrics because they were thought provoking. "Sofa" was not as good as the other songs. The music was too slow but the lyrics were very good. I would recommend this album.

the first song is good i like the start of it and i recognize it because I have heard it before in the past, I really like the drums and guitar they repeat the same words though. the next song is also good i like the start to it and i like how fast and loud it is i also like the guitar and drums on this one too. the last song has a good start to it i like it and it's slow at first I'm not sure if it speeds up it sounds like it speeds up and slows down. overall i like this album i would recommend.

alright supergrass, I like this song because i have heard this song before and it is really a good song. caught by the fuzz, I like this song because it sounds like a rock song and i can hear some drums in the background sofa of mt lethargy, I like this song because it kinda sounds like a sad song or a happy song i really don ´ t know

Alright is a great song 😃

One banger, rest was also nice

this was really nice actuallY!

A mix of high-energy fun and some more sedate and mellow numbers. I like this album a lot.

I was familiar with Alright but the rest is new to me. This is a pretty awesome album. Love the energy but it does drag a bit at the end. Favorites: I'd Like to Know, Alright, She's So Loose, Time Would I listen to it again: Yes

I think this might be the second time I’ve mistaken Supergras for Supertramp while doing this list. Perhaps that’s why I was pleasantly surprised by this. Alright, which I’d heard before without knowing who did it, was obviously good, but Mansize Rooster and Caught by the Fuzz were also good. The quality dropped off n the second half, but not enough to drop to a 3. I’ll be sure to listen to more Supertramp in future!

You know what? It was pretty good.

First time hearing of this band, but already sold from the first song on the record. I love the poppy hooks, fun synth, and manic energy at times. I didn’t realize Alright was by them - I am definitely going to be doing a deep dive of their discography to see if I recognize anything else.

Album cover was familiar, didn't know much going in though. First few songs were interesting, then "Alright" came on - what a song. Lose It, She's so Loose, Time, Sofa (Of My Lethargy) and Time to Go are other songs I enjoyed. I'd give the album 71/100, which I'd round up to 4*

Eclectic 90s alternative music BUT with a Britpop sensibility that makes it more fun. Oh, and apparently the fun is age appropriate play - I found out these bandmates were YOUNG when this album landed. I hear many influences here, from the Beatles to Glam Rock to just about everything else. Lots of variety, lots of talent, and some great sounds.

It's jangly brit-pop from the 90s that is pretty good. If it suffers, it suffers from its time more than anything else. There is just an empty aimlessness of the 90s that keeps the music from being truly relevant. Still, it rocks musically, and the band is fun enough to make the apathy of the 90s sound a little better that they were. I gave them a 3 on a previous incarnation of the list, but despite everything, I found myself enjoying this album more than I remembered. So, I'm pushing to a 4. Good job, Supergrass.

Nice upbeat memories of being a teen :))

Another one from a band that I mostly missed when I was growing up, except for Alright from this record, everyone knows that song. I've liked what I've heard of Supergrass. This album starts off strong as well, the bass playing and drumming are great. 13 songs and only 40 minutes, there are a few sub-three minute songs and one or two sub-two minute songs. Kind of hails back to some of the early punk records. I know this album was from the 90s but I feel like it could be a newer album going for a sort of 'rock revival' kind of feel. I think I may have said that about the other Supergrass record on this list too, but it's definitely not a bad thing. The more I listen to the more I think, 'man I need to listen to these guys more often.' I know they always get compared to Blur, Oasis, and The Verve, but I actually would put this in a slightly different category. This record at least is a lot more of a traditional, straight ahead rocker of an album. Kind of giving me Jet vibes of all things. I can see where Jet would have been super inspired by this. This one will be another solid 4/5. Not quite enough for a 5, and it loses points for the good idea but terrible execution of the cover.

3.5 stars. I think it could improve on further listens. I like “Alright” and some of thr other songs towards the end.

Great poppy Album - some classic riffs and great songs.

High energy

Such a fun album! Really enjoyed this one. Loved the energy and how catchy the songs were. Not quite full marks Very high 4 ⭐️

Not a perfect record, but a really excellent rough around the edges power pop album. The singles are instantly catchy, and the mid-album track are rewarding with multiple listens. Definitely going to keep this one in rotation.

I knew “Alright” and thought it was (ironically) a better than average song, but hadn’t listened to any other Supergrass now I wish I would have. It’s everything I loved about 90s Brit rock. It’s like Oasis, Travis, Blur, and Robbie Williams all wrapped up into one album. And you can still hear the Beatles in there too. Great album.

kinda rips. Definitely very pop and very british. slightly strokey (alright). "lose it" goes hard

Fun as heck. For whatever reason I thought this came out in the 00's. Probably music TV's fault. Simpler times.

Conjured images of being a teen in 90s London in my head. Based for that reason alone.
