Reviews (page 5 of 12)

Already heard it for the first time a few months ago. Really liked it!

I can dig it. Might have to be in the mood but I like it.

Great 90s album, a lot of energy from Supergrass. I guess they were big in the day, but I was too young to have been able to witness it. Anyway, it deserves a listen for sure.

dobrý, zatím se mi asi líbí nejvíc

I think this album was really solid. I'd never heard of Supergrass (but apparently my dad saw them open for Radiohead once and loves the song "Late in the Day," which I've unknowingly heard him play on the guitar from time to time). From the cover of the album, I expected it to be much weirder. Avant-garde, freaky, experimental, harsh, moody -- like Sonic Youth or something. But it was actually rather upbeat Britpop! I liked most every song, especially Sitting Up Straight and She's so Loose, which I'll definitely listen to again. I didn't love Alright (because it reminds me of that annoying fun. song which I feel like it must be related to in some way, because they sound the exact same) or the one that opens with weird, pitched-up minionese sounding stuff. It was weird. I think it was We're Not Supposed To. But overall, great album! Very easy listen, lots of great instrumentals and the vocals are nice too. I'd say 4.5 if that was allowed, but 4 will have to do. Not quite 5 material yet, but maybe if I listened more.

A brit pop rocket full of energy and good vibrations.

I had a pretty nice time with this album. I went into it with little to no expectations and that may have allowed me to get into the groove. In the end, it has a strong start and ended on an okay note. 7/10

Why does the album cover kinda remind me of Britt Lower in Severance? That aside, what a debut. Drawing on various inspirations to form a real heater of an alternative album, Supergrass effectively capture lightning in a bottle. They embody youth in such a highly effective manner without sacrificing musical virtuosity or technicallity. Rating: 8.3 Favorite Song: She's so loose/Time

7.5/10 I really liked this, would’ve been a little higher if it was more cohesive but a fun goofy record that had some real bright spots for me. Favorite Song: Mansize Rooster

This is good 90s Brit Rock, I really enjoyed it.

A rare album to get 3 listens out of me. Once as my obligatory listen, twice so I could listen a bit more intently, and thrice because I realized during the second listen it actually slaps. At first I thought this was gonna be some Kinks/Ramones kock-offs, but then they began to sound like a 90s version of Twin Peaks, one of my favorite bands of today. The album was quirky, fast, loud, melodic, diverse, and all round pretty fun despite having never heard of them before.

I really enjoyed it

Rocky, hard,, tuneful, good

Cool album. Found out that the famous song "Alright" was from this album. I am rating medium, because not each track gives me the vibe but still depends on the taste.

Fav: Alright Least Fav: We’re Not Supposed To Turns out, this band is more than alright - they’re incredible! With this and the other Supergrass album on this list, I’ve become a massive fan. Love the punkier vibes on this but the second half lulled a little. Still very good and I’m happy this website has allowed me to discover artists like this

Petrifying album art, but some of the best britpop has to offer.

Aggressive and fast paced, clearly big The Clash fans. Underrated britpop. Alright is massive.

'Alright' was a great track when this was new. It’s aged pretty well.

Pretty fucking fun britpop, I knew "Alright" but had never heard of Supergrass or this debut album before today.

Great new find for me!!! Played this one the whole way thru - twice.

I confused them with Supertramp lol. But I also like this :)

More enjoyable than anticipated!

Supergrass is just a really solid band, how come I have never heard of them before? Easily somewhere on the top of the britpop or britrock pantheon. Very solid album, I like their second record more, In It For the Money, but it's just such a positive vibe, really good music. Next on the list is the rest of Supergrass discography, one of the good findings on this list.

Had never heard of this band although I immediately knew the song Alright. Fits neatly into my mental category of 90s/00s British alt rock. Felt similar to Kaiser Chiefs or Franz Ferdinand. I have a soft spot for this genre.

I’ve heard of Supergrass - now I need to actually listen more to them more.

Fun personified

Brings back memories

This was fun and I really enjoyed. A little punk, little 80's rod stewart rock, and also fun! There sound was fun and a good blend. Also loved hearing the song from Clueless!

90’s POWER POP!! I really really dig this. I already know the song “Alright” from Clueless. There’s a nice sheen to these alt-pop gems. It’s making me feel like I’m 20 years old again.

Dig their sound and energy on this! Mansize Rooster is a total jam. And Alright is such a classic from the Clueless soundtrack, I didn't know that was Supergrass. This was a hard one not to love. Made me want to rock out and dance.

Standouts: Alright Sitting Up Straight Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

Классный звук. Вроде что-то похожее на панк, но позже это чувство чуть-чуть пропадает. Alright - хит, который уже слушал до прослушивания, прикольная гармония

Pretty bog-standard mid-90's britpop but a couple solid tracks, plus one everyone knows from commercials for boner pills or something

First time listening to this album, I had only heard Alright before. On first listen it’s pretty good, but nothing that had me on the edge of my seat.

Not bad for being their first debut album. I liked it.

Really enjoyed this one. Should probably give their other album another shot...

I thought the singer sounded familiar before track 4 hit and I realized this is the band that made that "we are young" song that's in every commercial LOL! Great album, lots of raw emotion. But "We're Not Supposed To" is awful. Faves: I'd Like to Know, Strange Ones, Sofia of my Lethargy

Supergrass's best known song famously declares "We are young. We run free." That tells you a lot about what to expect from the rest of the album. There are intense bursts of energy throughout, and a freeom that comes with a youthful lack of self-consciousness. In other bands, that could border on pretention, but Supergrass just sound like they want to have fun and hope you do too. It's a great debut and "Alright" is a classic teenage anthem. I have to agree with other reviewers that I prefer this to the majority of Brit pop acts from this period, particularly because you can actually dance to this stuff. I'd argue that their follow up album "In It for the Money" is a significant development in their sound. But this is still a pretty damn fun debut.

Very good album from a very underrated band.

Great album

## In-Depth Review of *I Should Coco* by Supergrass Supergrass's debut album, *I Should Coco*, released on May 15, 1995, is a quintessential representation of the Britpop era and has left a lasting impact on the music landscape. This review will explore the album's lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, while also addressing its pros and cons. ### Lyrics The lyrics of *I Should Coco* reflect the exuberance and recklessness of youth. They often delve into themes of teenage life, freedom, and the joy of living in the moment. - **Youthful Exuberance**: The standout track "Alright" epitomizes this theme with its catchy chorus celebrating carefree days and the thrill of being young. The lyrics capture a sense of liberation that resonates with listeners. - **Playfulness and Wit**: Songs like "Caught by the Fuzz" offer a humorous take on youthful indiscretions, specifically the experience of getting caught with drugs. This blend of humor and seriousness is a recurring motif throughout the album. - **Nostalgia and Reflection**: Tracks such as "Strange Ones" explore feelings of alienation and curiosity about those who live outside societal norms. The lyrics reflect a fascination with the unconventional, capturing both admiration and a sense of longing. Overall, Supergrass's lyrics combine wit with a genuine portrayal of youth culture, making them relatable to their audience. ### Music Musically, *I Should Coco* is an eclectic mix that showcases Supergrass's versatility. The album features elements from various genres, including punk, pop, rock, and even touches of psychedelia. - **Energetic Sound**: The album opens with "I'd Like to Know," characterized by its driving rhythms and catchy melodies. This high-energy track sets the tone for the rest of the album. - **Diverse Styles**: Each song presents a different facet of the band's musical identity. For instance, "Mansize Rooster" features a funky bassline and playful lyrics, while "Sofa (Of My Lethargy)" introduces a more laid-back vibe with its dreamy instrumentation. - **Catchy Melodies**: Tracks like "She's So Loose" combine gritty rock elements with infectious hooks that make them memorable. The use of harmonies and dynamic shifts adds depth to their sound. The album's production captures the raw energy of Supergrass's live performances while maintaining polished arrangements that enhance each track's appeal. ### Production Produced by Sam Williams, *I Should Coco* strikes a balance between polished studio sound and the rawness typical of punk rock. - **Live Feel**: Many tracks were recorded live in one take, which contributes to the album's vibrant energy. For example, "Sofa (Of My Lethargy)" was recorded with all band members playing together in one room, creating an organic sound. - **Instrumentation**: The use of varied instruments—ranging from guitars to organs—adds layers to their music. Rob Coombes’s keyboard contributions are particularly noteworthy in tracks like "Sitting Up Straight," where they provide an unexpected twist. - **Production Quality**: While maintaining an energetic feel, the production ensures clarity in vocals and instrumentation. This quality allows listeners to appreciate both lyrical content and musical intricacies. ### Themes The overarching themes in *I Should Coco* revolve around youth culture, freedom, and self-discovery. - **Celebration of Youth**: The album encapsulates the joys and challenges faced during adolescence. Songs like "Alright" serve as anthems for young people navigating life’s ups and downs. - **Rebellion vs. Conformity**: There is an underlying tension between wanting to break free from societal expectations while still grappling with familial ties and social norms. This theme is evident in tracks such as "We’re Not Supposed To," which hints at a desire for independence amidst external pressures. - **Exploration of Identity**: Through their lyrics and soundscapes, Supergrass invites listeners to reflect on their identities during formative years. The notion of being 'strange' or different is celebrated rather than shunned. ### Influence *I Should Coco* played a significant role in shaping Britpop music during the 1990s. - **Cultural Impact**: The album contributed to the Britpop movement by embodying its spirit—celebrating British culture while appealing to a youthful audience. Its success helped pave the way for other bands emerging from this scene. - **Legacy**: Despite being overshadowed by contemporaries like Blur and Oasis in terms of commercial success in America, Supergrass’s debut remains influential within British music circles. It is often cited as a classic example of 90s rock that captures youthful exuberance. - **Inspiration for Future Artists**: The playful energy and catchy melodies have inspired subsequent generations of musicians who seek to capture similar sentiments in their work. ### Pros and Cons #### Pros - **Catchy Melodies**: The album is filled with infectious hooks that make it enjoyable to listen to repeatedly. - **Energetic Performance**: Supergrass’s youthful exuberance translates well into their music, creating an engaging listening experience. - **Diverse Sound**: Each track offers something unique while maintaining a cohesive overall vibe. #### Cons - **Lyrical Depth**: While many songs are playful and fun, some critics argue that they lack deeper socio-cultural commentary compared to peers like Blur or Pulp. - **Occasional Filler**: A few tracks may feel less impactful compared to standout singles; there are moments where the energy dips slightly. - **Limited International Recognition**: Despite its success in the UK, *I Should Coco* did not achieve significant acclaim outside Britain, which may limit its perceived impact globally. ### Conclusion In summary, *I Should Coco* by Supergrass is an iconic debut that captures the essence of youth during the Britpop era. With its infectious melodies, witty lyrics, and energetic performances, it remains a beloved classic that resonates with listeners even decades after its release. While it may not possess the same level of socio-cultural critique as some contemporaries, its celebration of youth culture ensures its place in music history as a joyful exploration of adolescence.

Stabil

Solid power pop at times, a little punk-y and manic at others. Overall a pretty great record

Really great!

Even though I've known Supergrass for a long time, I never really listened to them much. I have heard some of their later stuff, but I was surprised how much of this first album is more like The Kinks than The Rolling Stones. I have always thought they were more like the latter, based on some of their singles and later albums. However, I want to listen to more of their albums, now, and while I still didn't like this as much as other Brit Rock/Pop albums from the time, I did really like it.

thoroughly enjoyed this one! the production and songwriting are so full of life. brilliant

Had no idea that the song was called “Alright,” so was a pleasant surprise when a song I recognized showed up. But it was also an interesting juxtaposition to the rest of the album.

I’ve only listened to (and enjoyed) their self titled album from ‘99. Excited to dig into their earlier stuff. Great energy & chord progressions. A lot of fun and some earworms even on a first listen. Having just listened to an Arctic monkeys album…it feels like this was the blueprint for what they were trying to do (but less successfully). Anyway, really enjoyable listen.

266/1001 Discazo! La de veces que lo habré escuchado en bucle! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

I never really listened to them when this came out as I found ‘Alright’ really irritating (and still do). Their second (and better) album drew me back in. This album’s a bit of a game of two halves, the power garage pop 1st half is excellent (and I can excuse sort of having the same song twice as it’s that good). The slower more psychedelic 2nd half (which they get better at later in the career) is not really that memorable. What is undeniable is that they are a fun band not to be taken too seriously, and I think it’s physically impossible not to come out a bit happier having listened to them.

Very good, but no pulp.

I think Supergrass is one of the best britpop bands out there. THeir first two albums are great and this one is especially exciting, with unrelenting rhythms and such an energic delivery. Awesome stuff.

Take it easy dude, but take it!

I was really surprised by that one. Powerful, energetic and efficient britpop (and I'm not the #1 fan of that genre, as this challenge may have noticed). I really enjoyed that first Supergrass!

The energy and good times continue throughout the entire record. I didn’t hear a single dud or filler. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-i-should-coco-by-supergrass?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Yammerin' swingin' jammin' good time. No shortage of an authentic edge and healthy spontaneity. Equal angst and fun, grit and hooks. I'll revisit this one.

Enjoyed this, beneath the layers it’s really tight musically. Enjoyed mansize rooster. And would listen to the album again for sure. First song was kind of like if The Shins had too much morning coffee.

Really fun record.

British Pop-Rock with punk elements innit. Quite enjoyable acitually.

This album sound very British i mean it's accent ofcourse, but it is the way of playing and production as well. It's interesting album with some athonal moments and one hit song "Alright".

At first, I was surprised that this made the list. After listening to this again for the first time in probably 10-15 years I am now not surprised. It is very good. Supergrass best album for sure. Its full of indie hits. Favourite song: Stange ones and Allright Least favourite: Every song is a good one Album artwork: Great cover

Hell yeah, some killer britpop that's punchy, catchy, and surprisingly prescient of British rock artists of the 2000s (like The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, etc.).

74/100. “They had us in the first half” was the first thing I thought after listening to this album. While the first half was magnificent, the second half wasn’t terrible—just disappointing by comparison. This contrast was especially highlighted by the song "We’re Not Supposed To," which genuinely sounded like an Alvin and the Chipmunks cover—a vibe that’s never a good thing.

Cool but I wish it was bluegrass.

I'd Like to Know Strange Ones

Better than I remembered

happiest british person

Seems like the sort of thing I'd have been into but this one slipped right past me at the time.

Some proper heaters on this, some is a bit dated, but overall this was fun and pumping and a good discovery for me

Definitely more fun and interesting than most of the brit-pop albums on the list so far. Has plenty of energy to it, 'Alright' is a classic banger we've all heard a million times. Wasn't mad about hearing it.

spiky, perky, catchy!

4 - more than just their one song. I was expecting a lot less and it kinda surprised me

Really enjoyed this. Best tracks: the well-known Alright and Strange Ones. None that I particularly didn’t like.

Solid 90s English rock, nice variety

I had never heard of supergrass before, but found them to be a nice new band. I think I heard of "Alright" in an episode of How I Met Your Mother.

I never really paid much attention to Supergrass at the time, and I can see why. This is good but I’m not sure I’d want to listen to it on the regular. Moving came on after and that is a banger. Another one I want to give a 3.5 to

Energetic, nostalgic and it reminded me of Harry Hill

This album embodies so much that other brit pop/rock from the time fails to capture, and that is energy and fun. This is an easy to listen to album that doesn't try to take itself too seriously but delivers on the music. You can see the influence in this album on bands like the White Stripes and Jack White's music in general. I know the song Alright, but was impressed with the rest of the album as well. Definitely glad we got this one and got another Morrissey/Smith's album.

Energy Rock! Like an Aerosmith album dropping almost all the dull bits. Each song is unique, a sound to itself. I love almost every song... except "We're Not Supposed To" which is simply irritating. BTW, I love the cover. 4/5

4/5 Some bangers & solid range.

Fun, listened to it a couple times at work today and it helped me get through a busy day. I’ll definitely go back to it. Mansize Rooster and Strange Ones were really good. This is way more frenzied and off-the-wall than other Britpop stuff, and a good bridge between 70s punk and 2000s UK indie.

Favorite tracks: Mansize Rooster, Alright, Lenny, Sitting Up Straight, She's So Loose. Whooo the energy in this! Good stuff. Lyrically it isn't, like, groundbreaking, but the music is so fun. Took me a few listens to really get into it, but now I'm sold. 4 stars. Side note, Clueless had such a good soundtrack. Agin' like wine.

Solid album

7/10. I feel like it's heavier than a lot of other Britpop albums, which I really like. However, I feel like it's not as memorable. However, it's still a great listen!!! :)

This is all new to me (band and album), which I (usually) appreciate from this collection. And quite a contrast to the album from the day before ("Ready To Die" from The Notorious B.I.G.), despite coming out in the same year. From their opening track through most of the album, it feels like some sort of strange Elvis Costello/60s garage band/Pulp mashup with the occasional bit of grunge thrown in too. An odd combination, but it works surprisingly well, and most of their videos are weirdly manic and entertaining, especially their hit single "Alright" (also "Caught by the fuzz" and "Mansize rooster", less so for "Lose it", "Lenny" and "Time"). I also liked the energy of "Strange ones", and it certainly feels/looks like they enjoy playing together, channeling a sort of teen vibe in a surprisingly un-jaded way. I also loved the bassist's description of the people who lived/hung out on Cowley Road in Oxford and who inspired "I'd like to know" and "Strange ones": "There's a lot of people around Oxford who are real spliffheads and that, who go and lie down in Port Meadow, but I'm not really sure about them. I'm not really sure that they're individuals: they're part of a much larger thing."

Groupe inconnu.

Some bangers and very fun

nothing wrong with this album either, quite alot like the last one. a bit more groovy so i enjoyed it slightly more, but its not significantly "better" the end of the album is certainly better than the start, at least more engaging for me, from were not supposed to onward are some really fun songs. Sofa is a really great track, same with were not supposed to. the outro song is brill. made from a 3 to a 4 for me, will listen again.

better than oasis

This album grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go. Somehow I've never heard of this band (I did recognize "Alright") despite them obviously being an influence of my favorite bands of the a Aughts (The Strokes, Artic Monkeys). Really great album only falling short of 5 stars because I think it kind of fizzles out and the last 1/3 isn't nearly as good as the rest.

Britpop was equally brilliant and terrible for some of its poster children. Yes, it thrust them into the limelight, got them sales beyond their dreams (you'd imagine), and created anthems out of songs like 'Alright'. But at the same time, Supergrass are a genuinely fantastic band who nailed the genre, created multiple really strong albums that pushed its boundaries and really deserve to be seen through a wider lens. It's a real shame if they felt the need to play Alright at every gig they ever played, as it's far from the best track on offer here. They had an excellent knack for fills - nothing is ever just a simple chug through a chord progression. They add clever guitar work and basslines at every turn and while some moments are a little on the more playful side, they were basically kids at the time, and tracks like Lenny, Strange Ones and Time are hidden gems.

++: I'd Like to Know, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Lose It, Lenny, Strange Ones, Sitting Up Straight, Sofa (of My Lethargy), Time to Go +: Caught by the Fuzz, We're Not Supposed To +-: Strange Ones, She's So Loose, Time 7,9/10

I wish I'd found this album when I was in my teens, I'd have fallen in love with it. Some great music on here, felt genuinely sad that it had passed me by for so long!

Love the energy, and the mix was interesting

J’aime bien: c’est du gros fuzz rock qui n’hésite pas à expérimenter avec ce q’ils ont sous la main en studio. Shoutout aux Minions qui font des apparitions surprises tout au long de l’album

Great music! I'd listen again and will seek out more!

I thought I hadn’t heard this album from this legendary band until “Alright” came on and I instantly recognized it from the classic movie Clueless. Other than that this was new for me. Love the energy through out and I can hear so many bands that were influenced by them. I’ve only heard a few songs from this band prior but this listen piqued my interest and I’m gonna dive into some more of their releases.

This is a fun, playful album. Some good energy on here. I definitely recognize Alright. Parts of this sound like a watered down Ween mixed with Thee Oh Sees. I enjoyed listening to it, but nothing is driving me to listen again. She's So Loose was my favorite. Good album, so I'll give it a 4.

Takes me back to highschool with the 90's Brit pop era, which I was a casual fan of much of. Though cheeky and energetic, Supergrass didn't seem to get a huge foothold in the American market (aside from the ever-catchy "Alright") and that's too bad, but I think they helped shape a certain type of sound that exploded a few years later.

This shit straight up jams. It's rare that I like something on the very first listen, but this stuff is great. I like the energy. At times its a little punky, great transitions in the songs, the melodies are interesting and catchy, a bit comical at times too. I heard of these guys when they came out but never really listened to them. I'm sure these guys would put on a great show. I hear a little bit of early Pink Floyd in the melodies as well as a bit of David Bowie.

Fun and high energy album with elements of pop-punk and 90s alt rock. I might come back to a few songs from this one.

Me gusta sobre todo 2 o 3 canciones pero este disco es mitico

I was pretty sure I was in for another Brit Bias pick hate listen, and it’s not like the terrible album cover gave me anything to look forward to either. Surprisingly I found myself enjoying this a lot. There were 2 or 3 tracks that didn’t hit, but for the most part this was actually a fun listen. A good romp of Brit alt-rock, with some pop elements mixed in at times.

CLUELESS

Really good Brit pop with a splash of punk. I was pretty much at a 3.5 rounded down to a 3, but the back half persuaded me to round up. 3.5/5

I really liked this. Definitely recognized a few of the songs including the lead single. You can for sure hear influences like The Kinks and The Jam peeking through, and the production choices seem to complement the style too. Nothing contrived here. Just really good Brit-pop.

Still a classic of 90s Brit pop rock

Enjoyed listening to it again

Not as good as their later stuff, but still pretty good. Falls outside the brit-pop genre more than others, and that's a good thing.

Solid album! Surprising. A few songs I knew. Better than expected.

not their best but they had a lot of ideas

Hyvä pop/rock-punk-levy! 4/5

In the time since my last Supergrass review, where I typed “hoping they’ll reunite”, they have announced they are in fact reuniting, for the 30th anniversary of this album. Cool! Coco is punkier than In It For the Money, rarely letting up except in the pause between one song ending & another starting. There's also a sense of restlessness I appreciate, especially for a first album, even if not all of it lands (the pitch-shifting in "We're Not Supposed To). It's not groundbreaking, it's just likable af HL: "Sitting Up Straight", "Alright", "Lose It", "I'd Like To Know" Later on October 8th

nice album! got repetitive, but maybe i'm just picky. fun listen

This is a band who was still looking for their sound and they give their best effort in everything. The first track is fast and punchy. The album starts to move and get more slow and rhythmic, peaking with the hit track, alright. There are a lot of solid tracks on the backside, I like the closer. They experiment with a lot of different styles and I think it's a creative and tastefully made debut album.

Hey, it's the credits song from Hot Fuzz. A little frenetic but I'm into it.

Enjoyable album. I would definitely listen to it again

Was afraid it would be more boring brit pop, but I actually liked this

Really good!

It's ok. I know one song, did not know it was them.

Steady rhythms. I really got into it at She's So Loose.

This really was a classic. I'm not sure I'm in the mood to give it 5 stars, but I did thoroughly love some decent Brit-pop.

It's pretty good. It starts out slow, but it picks up nicely - there are some bops in here for sure. The song Alright is the hit here - I feel like I've heard this song in every movie or TV show that needs a teen anthem montage. In fact, I just looked it up and it has been in 23 movies or TV shows since its release. Overall, I'd give the album a 3.5. I don't think it holds up to some of the 4 star albums I've rated before, but I feel like it's better than just "OK" or "fine," which has been my criteria for a 3 star album.

I’m maybe slightly embarrassed to say I wasn’t familiar with Supergrass before this. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the name, and after listening to the album I’ve certainly heard Alright here and there over time, but it’s surprising that I’m so unaware of what has been a pretty successful band that plays music similar to bands that I love. I’m guessing they’re more in the public consciousness in the U.K. than the U.S. where I’m from. Anyway, this is a very good rock album. Alright is the highlight, a tremendous bit of pop rock and roll that you can’t help but feel good while listening to it. There’s nothing offensive here, each track is a nice listen. The other highlight to me is Sofa Of My Lethargy, which features a killer outro that leads nicely into the final track. It’s a fun album that I’m sure made for a nice alternative dish to what Oasis and Blur were serving at the time.

Usually, when critics takes time to mention an artists age at recording an album, it’s because they’re a young creator who has made an outstandingly mature and polished statement for their relative youth, or because it’s an older artist putting out material that’s regarded as on par with their earlier works. Take The Jam’s first album as example of the former, recorded when Paul Weller was only 18, and You Want It Darker for the latter, recorded by Cohen at 82. I bring this up because I Should Coco was written and recorded by Supergrass when they were all very young, 19 if I’m recalling correctly, and it sounds like it. I don’t mean that in a bad way. There’s a youthful exuberance that really works in it’s favour. It sounds like it was recorded by a group of teenagers, and it’s music that I think would greatly appeal to my teenage self if I’d gotten around to listening to it. Hell, I’m nearly 26 and all I want to do is bum around, get up late, smoke cigarettes and hang out with my friends like the protagonists do in Alright. I couldn’t make an album like this nowadays. I don’t have that youthful optimism and carefree attitude. Everything I create is world weary and cynical. The only other Supergrass album I’ve ever listened to is Life On Other Planets, which was recorded by the band when they were about the same age as I am now, and they seem to have not lost any of their pep in those intervening years. And to be fair, I did record some music when I was around their age that was, looking back at it, quite bleak and cynical, so maybe I’m just a miserable bastard. All this is to say that I Should Coco is a reminiscence of a teenage self I never was. It allows me an opportunity to be the more carefree self I never was, and I appreciate that

So many musical idea are served up here at break neck speed with such exuberance - it's impossible to deny the sheer energy that radiates from this album. Both of a moment and completely out of time because of it's many cultural touch points. I feel like if released today it could find an audience.

Post punk but more on the punk side. I liked this way more than I expected to, despite the popular song being one of the worst on the album.

this was a ton of fun. could i write poetry to this? y

Well where the hell was this Super grass on the other album we listened to?!?!

Impressive debut!

Great album, nothing groundbreaking but very solid. I only knew Supergrass' hits previously, now I'm realizing that maybe I had under rated them before. This also reminded me how good Gaz Coombes' Matador is, gave that another listen too!

A youthful, fun, rock n roll record that would sound more at home among the garage rock revival movement of the early 2000s than the alt-rock/pop punk of its time. Recalls Oasis with a bit more edge.

Overall, a very fun record. There’s some oddball tracks on here, but the ones that hit are pure pop gems. Inspired me to listen to more Supergrass.

Very good album. Lots of very good songs. Was more enjoyable when younger. Stand out song - Tine

Surprisingly good album. Was expecting another 90s britpop slog, but this was innovative, full of youthful energy and not pedestrian like their contemporaries.

so melodic its almost abrasive, or maybe a little bit funny. no complaints from me ofc..while not entirely Wowing all the way thru, every single song is a great study in Songs That Teach You How To Listen To Themselves, spreading and distributing musical information in a way that will almost inevitably be fully absorbed and probably lodged in ur head. lots of genuine power to the band here too, the tone is Big without any shred of ornateness which is always a fun vibe. kinda cant believe this is 40 minutes lmao it just flies by, maybe more then any other record ive rolled so far. ive been on a good streak recently i think!

I dig it.

A brillant brit-pop, including the hit "Alright".

I'm biased since this is already on regular rotation. Alright is a classic and ragers like Caught by the Fuzz right up there with it.

Great album and eneregy love how it slows towards the end with brilliant songs with time, sofa and time to go, alright is more than alright as the big hit also like manzise rooster as a energetic song, great album

Brit Cali punk. It works.

My buddy's 3 year old daughter came out of potty training knowing a poop as a "coco." She's also a bit of a firecracker. Doesn't mind popping a squat and doing a coco right outside, or on the sidewalk even, because the dog can do it, right? So from the very beginning, I imagined this album as the soundtrack running in her head as she blasted around getting into things, frantic, at some point realizing she should coco. I found the experience pleasant and amusing.

Honestly, this album was a very enjoyable listen. I am willing to die on this hill and say this album is good, even. My only gripe is that this album feels like you've listened to something completely different once you get to the latter half. It doesn't feel like the same album, and this album doesn't feel super true to itself. It feels like they've recorded some of these songs in the 60's, some in the 70's, and some in the 90's - but I don't hate it honestly. We're Not Supposed To was atrocious, but after that the best songs on the album were present. I was tossed between a 3 and a 4 here, but considering this album only has one 'skip' on it, and the rest of the songs I enjoyed, I'll go with a 4. As far as highlights are concerned: Time felt kinda like a Smashing Pumpkins record, and the harmonicas rocked. Sofa was just a belter of a tune, with fantastic instrumentals, it sounded like it was from the 60's honestly. But yeah, good stuff. Definitely will be coming back to this one after the insufferable wave of Britpop in this album goes away and I can finally listen to a British accent in a song again without gagging.

Some bangers, especially in the first half. Loses it's way a bit towards the end but still probably my second favourite britpop album after Different Class.

What a delight! Modern rock that shows off its influences while retaining its own identity. Love it! Had I head this as a youth, I certainly would have been a fan.

More like super fun. Raw and energetic. The best of the Brit pop I’ve encountered on this list.

Good wholesome 90s fun

Raucous argy bargy. The slower songs are a bit skip-able. Otherwise it'd be a solid five.

This album was really good, though not as good as In It For The Money for me. Still, Supergrass will always be welcome in my ears. 3.5/5

I wish all britpop was Supergrass. This album is very good. 4.25/5

Wow! What an unexpected pleasure this was. I knew that I'd enjoy it in a nostalgic, weren't the 90s fun, way, but I think that's actually selling it short. Funnily enough, I think Alright is easily the worst song, and it's a good example of how bands never shake off their novelty hit. Finally, I was absolutely blown away by the raw energy of Caught By The Fuzz, a song I know really well, but maybe listened to properly for the first time in an age. Also, to end that song with a back and forth harmony that must have been a deliberate Beatles nod to Hold Me Tight is proper class.

First track is upbeat and fun, interested in more! Very fun, very 90's but has a peppy Hey Hey We're The Monkey's like vibe.

Had actually never heard of them. I dig it. Probably why the hives and jet were a thing

This has one obvious hit single, but the whole album is full of fun, energetic, good music

War ein tolles Debut-Album

I’m a sucker for British pop rock that borders on punk. This is an excellent example of that.

Fun, lots of good energy. A good alt rock kind of listen.

Britpop, Power Pop. Amazing energy and the talent to match. Just punky enough as well to have a little edge. Eclectic and manic, had a great time listening to it. 4/5

She’s So Loose, Sofa of My Lethargy, We’re Not Supposed To, Time, Time to Go are too slow; I especially like Alright, Lenny

yeah this one’s pretty awesome

This genre of music is usually my jam, but I wasn't feeling it today. So on the whole I enjoyed it, but I'd like to come back another time when I can properly get into it and listen to it a few more times. Todays listen was a 3, but I'm bumping it up to a 4 because I think thats what I'll give it later! Optimistic!

'90 vibes, I was there, so it's good to me

RIP Alright, killed by mainstream media Rest of the album punks

Some decent songs on here. I liked it

I enjoyed this quite a bit. It’s good and noisy in a fun energetic way. I would return to it definitely

It's good

Oh Supergrass, you would have killed it in today's indie punk scene. But as that is not to happen, I can at least revel in your relentless overly energised craze of bassy percussive rock.

Good - listen again

Fells like early to middle 200s punk rocky stuff. Enjoyed, but I feel like the albums that came later improved on the sound.

I enjoyed the "In It For The Money" I got here some time ago much more, but this is the kind of energy I expect from a rock band. It's not perfect, but it's a solid 3.5 album.

One of the most underrated britpop albums of the 90's. With so much youthful energy every song is just joyous.

I haven't listened to Supergrass for a long time. They're not in my daily music stream. It was fun to listen to them again. Music from this album will probably be added to my stream again now. 4/5

Damn good album. Innovate sounds messing rock, punk and more.

one of the best discoveries from 1001 albums is how much i like supergrass.

good album, i do enjoy listening to supergrass from time to time. these guys have a solid sound and some interesting songwriting. even the songs that didn't really jump out at me were still perfectly fine in the background. plus we finally get their huge hit, alright! favorites: i'd like to know, caught by the fuzz, alright

Impressed at how good this was and that I’ve never heard it. Will definitely listen again

Alright was an embarrassing ommision from Own Personal Rics until about 10 minutes ago. This has had a significant amount of influence on early 2000s era aus indie/rock, namely Jet, The Vines, The Androids. Then obvious ones outside of Aus like Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand etc. The piano intro to Sitting Up Straight is SUPER nice.

Not as good as Life on Other Planets, but the songwriting is pretty solid throughout. A very listenable album.

How have I never heard of this band????? Catchy little rockers! Plus a couple of nice slow songs.

power popin

Fun sound. Favorite tracks: - I'd Like to Know - Caught By the Fuzz - Mansize Rooster - Alright - Lose It - Lenny - Strange Ones - Sitting Up Straight - Time

Favourite songs: Alright, Lenny, Time, Mansize Rooster, Sitting Up Straight Least favourite songs: We're Not Supposed To 4/5

A little heavier than the music I typically like. But the guitars on Time were 10/10 and that alone bumped the whole album up

Already listened to this album but it was very impressive considering their age and musical maturity at the time. Basically a bunch of high school hooligans making fun and bright music. 4 stars bc some songs got old kinda quick

It’s always weird when you hear that one famous song you know but didn’t know the album or artist. Anyways it’s pretty good

I'd like to know seehr funny mansize rooster chli es mitsinglied alright huere geil mitem nervöse klavier wo voll durrezieht es isch jz nüt revolutionärs aber huere fun, jz au lenny mitem riff und de bongos oder so im hindergrund ruck macht das spass sitting up straight au mega punkig, schnell, roh und catchy we're not supposed to weird aber iwie funny? beatles chipmunks version? finds auno agnehmi mischig us schnell und mengisch chli längsämere songs bin nöch amene 5i

Not bad.

It's a bit British, innit? I only knew one song (alright) but the rest were also fine. It's energetic and vibrant. I won't be buying the album because that cover is terrifying. And what is a supergrass anyway?

Huh. What a nice surprise. I had never heard of this band before and, based on the album cover, I was not looking forward to this. I'm shocked by how much I liked this and more shocked still by the fact that I actually knew one of the songs. I'm pretty sure I've heard it on a commercial or something...but still. Great track. 4/5

Divertido britpop, grandes singles y otras canciones que también pudieron ser singles. Tmb arriba derry girls

The buzzcocks but faster and a bit more modern. “Alright” is a great song even it has become know through commercials. 7/10

Britpop is slowly becoming one of my favourite non hip-hop genre. This album was amazing and i loved it

good bops, v 90s in a good way. enjoyed how upbeat it was, perfect for summer

This was super fun. Was captivated by every direction each song went. Melodic, trippy, punky, and some sweet tones and solos

Lots of variety and I had no idea they did Alright! Liked how much Strange Ones shifted around but didn’t care for the chorus much.

Love Supergrass! This early release was so good and I enjoyed listening to it again. Great album.

Solid album

I knew of Supergrass, but I think I had them way more in the generic pop, like Spacehog (I actually have had these bands confused). I was very pleasantly surprised but this album and would probably circle back to this one sometime soon.

What a blueprint for so many bands.

Otros discos de 1995 fueron: P J HARVEY: To Bring You My Love, TRICKY: Maxinquaye, TINDERSTICKS: The Second Album, BJÖRK: Post, PULP: Different Class, SMASHING PUMPKINS: Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, SUPERGRASS: I Should Coco, GARBAGE: Garbage, THE JAYHAWKS - Tomorrow the green grass, TEENAGE FANCLUB: Grand Prix, RADIOHEAD: The Bends, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: The Ghost Of Tom Joad, OASIS: (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, ELASTICA: Elastica, D’ANGELO: Brown Sugar, WILCO: A M, SPIRITUALIZED: Pure Phase, YO LA TENGO: Electr-O-Pura, Slowdive (‘Pygmalion’), GUIDED BY VOICES- Alien lanes También: THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS: Exit Planet Dust, GOLDIE: Timeless, FOO FIGHTERS: Foo Fighters, BLACK GRAPE: It’s Great When You Are Straight Yeah PAVEMENT: Wowee Zowee , SPAIN: The Blue Moods Of Spain THE AMPS: Pacer, THE PRESIDENTS OF U.S.A. - The Presidents of U.S.A., PAUL WELLER - Stanley road, BEN FOLDS FIVE - Ben Folds Five, SONIC YOUTH - Washing machine, NEIL YOUNG & PEARL JAM - Mirror ball, MATTHEW SWEET - 100% Fun, LUNA - Penthouse, CHRIS ISAAK- Forever Blue, Throwing Muses- University, Supersuckers- The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers, Superchunk -Here’s Where the Strings Come In, Annie Lennox- Medusa, Jamiroquai-The Return of the Space Cowboy, THE VERVE- A northern soul, THE MAGNETIC FIELDS- Get lost, U2 (Passengers)- Original soundtracks 1, Prince - The Gold Experience, NO DOUBT- Tragic Kingdom. Y el Second coming de Stone Roses, pero eso es otra historia...

Ahead of its time, this album presented a unique track list of diverse sounds. From high speed punk to slower blues-inspired ballads, truly encapsulating the alternative spirit. Vocals are serviceable, with one song even doing the high pitch vocal tweak which is more common nowadays. Honestly, probably should have been listening to this my whole life.

Never listened to Supergrass before (recognised Alright), turns out I'm now a huge fan. Enjoyed pre much every track Apparently the frontman played at freo social in December Favourite tracks: She's So Loose, Sofa (Of My Lethargy)

This is kinda dope. Loving it.

Any album that starts with a ‘1-2-3-4’ is an automatic winner for me. I only knew the insanely catchy hit ‘Alright’ but I enjoyed the bouncy punk energy of this, combined with a bit of cheeky chappy humour in an 80s Madness style. They even channel 60s Bowie on We’re Not Supposed To with daft gnome voices. The final track Time to Go is a good closer, and a strong contender for a song to play at a funeral.

Quite liked this one

There are so absolute smash hits on this album, and the rest is largely enjoyable thanks to the sheer energy put into each song.

- Never heard of Supergrass and was very pleasantly surprised; honestly shocked this came out in 1995 because it has the feel of a lot of garage rock, pop-punk, and indie alt albums of the 00s. - Do I love every track? No. But they are almost all super catchy. In particular, "I'd Like to Know," "Caught By the Fuzz," and "Sitting Up Straight" are all solid and display some fun, frenetic guitar work. - "Time" is probably my favorite, though...very authentic rhythm and blues callback with some grit.

Great debut album. It's just rock and roll, don't over-think it. A good bit of fun. You can really hear their influences, almost a little too much, but because I like those influences I won't count it against them ;). Cool sound, lots of bass, great drumming as well. There are some interesting innovations on here. I enjoyed this album quite a bit, fun uptempo blasts - probably not "Britpop" if it wasn't released at that time. Slightly better than three stars. If this were a 100 scale, and: ⭐️ = 0-20, ⭐️⭐️ = 21-40, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ = 41-60, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = 61-80, and ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = 81-100 this album is definitely in the top third for me, especially after the last week or so.

Jaunty album! Simple beats with a lot of energy. Favorite is Alright, followed by Caught By the Fuzz, Time, all songs are catchy, all songs are good. Musta been great to see them live back in the 90s. Somehow never heard of Supergrass, but they put together a great debut album - solid (4.0*s)

Alright...yeah...I'm in. Some great early brit indy rock with a bit of a punk slant. Lead singer it gritty/grunge and is backed up by some really tight, polished instrumentals. You can hear the skill they have but they also give you a "we like to screw around in the garage too, mate" feel as well. Thought the album cover was the Gorillaz when I fist saw it so maybe Albarn was influenced a bit by these guys.

Never heard of Supergrass previously and enjoyed the listen. Solid brit-punk/pop album that does all the little things right. Sometimes there's no need to complicate things when you write a handful of fun upbeat songs. Solid listen all the way through the album and there's never really a low point. Great choice for 1001. 3.7 stars

Nostalgia Overload.

A slightly quirky and highly energetic album. Very British with a very nasal singer, but consistently charming and melodic. Best song: Lose It

I remember this as being a sound of youthful exuberance and John Peel playing the first three singles which were released before the album perhaps even before there was an album deal.

Great album. Lots of energy and fun music. Britpop at its finest.

Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.

I wished I listened to this when I was a 90s kid

Solid BritPop debut album. Helped define the sound and genre. Fun listen but not one I would come back to regularly any more.

Still a banging album.

I like it :)

This one was nice, I enjoyed it a lot. It's a mid-90's British alt rock album. It's kind of Britpop-y, but a little more of a punk sound than Blur or Oasis or the more well-trodden Britpop bands. "Alright" is the very famous song on here, and it's super catchy. I found myself enjoying a lot of the other stuff on here too though, it was an interesting listen throughout. Only 40 minutes total with 13 songs, so most of them were fairly short and varied enough to stay interesting. This is probably a classic 3.5 star album for me, but I saved most of the songs and "Alright" is a top-tier song, so we're rounding up. Side note, but when listening to this I thought about how I used to not really be able to tell if bands were American or British. After listening to 202 albums it has become incredibly obvious in most cases. This was super British. Favorite song: Alright Other: I'd Like To Know, Caught By The Fuzz, Mansize Rooster, Alright, Sitting Up Straight, She's So Loose, Sofa Of My Lethargy 4/27/24

Pretty rocking stuff. 4 stars.

I remember this album cover vividly. Supergrass is a classic 90s English alternative rock band. Alright is by far the most recognizable (of Alicia Silverstone's Clueless OST fame), and Caught by the Fuzz is also quite memorable from the era. A feelgood 90s britpop.

💖 mansize rooster 🗣️ 8️⃣

I'm still not ready for any Britpop retrospective. I rinsed this solid for a period of around three months in '95. I had very one dimensional musical tastes at the time. Supergrass were a little different though. Underneath the cartoon characters they had a dark side. the bass playing is a BEAST here. The joy of the songs keeps it all happy, happy joy, joy. Caught by the Fuzz still managed to raise a smile.

Caught by the Fuzz is among their best. Alright is pretty alright The rest not so much. Still good overall tho

Remind me initially of the offspring pretty solid album, have a slight love of British rock so I am partial to bands like this. Never heard of them funny enough, but really enjoyed the album.

Solid. First song to last all enjoyable.

classic 90s

I think I never knew the name of the band behind "Alright". So here it is. And it was fun. A wide array of styles and influences by other bands, and it works indeed well.

Solid 4.1

Never heard of them, even though one of their songs is saved on my Spotify from some playlist over the years, but really enjoyed it. Fun find.

This album is coherent yet borrows from multiple genres to form a unique sound. This album first struck me as a post-punk album but as the album progressed, I heard just how melodic and full of pop sensibility it was. We can lump it into the label, ‘Britpop,’ but there’s a lot more to it than that. The seeds of early 2000’s British alternative and indie rock can be heard here though Supergrass is also capable of Beatlesesque finesse and song development. I love bands that take the listener on a journey through their influences and these guys do it well. This is a super impressive debut.

"Alright" is such exuberant fun. The rest of the album is pretty good too, but not at the same level.

Really fun, I’m shocked how much I loved this. I don’t think it’s worth a 5, but it’s worth a listen

In the 90s, the video for 'Alright' with the whole cheeky chappy schtick put me right off Supergrass. Luckily I rediscovered them later on and agree with others they are completely underrated. The quality of their albums is super consistent and they have written some of the most atmospheric songs I've ever heard (e.g. 'Mary' - so creepy). This album is not my favourite but still really good, despite the fact that Gaz Coombes does sound like a Mick Jagger parody on some of the songs. You can already hear hints of what's to come in terms of the greatness of their later albums.

Thought I didn't know the band or any songs but I actually had heard Alright before. Pleasantly surprised that I liked this. It's raw and has got a good energy.

‘Alright’ classic hit movie song. Rest of album is high energy britpunk.

Reminds me a bit of The Future of the Left

ah, more britpop. however this is an interesting one - I'm on my third listen because I'm struggling with how to rate it, and it's growing on me. my struggle comes from the fact that I do appreciate the talent (this album as a debut? most could only dream) and the album's place on this list is well deserved – this is good music. yet it still doesn't grip me as much as I would like it to. I can definitely hear the influence of Buzzcocks, The Kinks, The Jam, etc on this album and I must say I do prefer the source material. the fact that I'm fully sick of hearing Alright at this point doesn't help. neither does being past the years of "teenage freedom" (or stupidity) and certainly not feeling nostalgic about it, so the theme of the album doesn't fully resonate and just seems rather shallow. yet the songs are good and I'm sure if I ever could have had a chance to hear this album live, I would've become a fan. would rate it 3.5

Love me some classic Brit pop. Gonna go 3.6/5 on this one. Some songs were a miss for me but overall I enjoyed it and will come back to a selection of songs. Obviously ‘Alright’ is the most well known track on there. I’d say my favorite was probably Time.

I had a great time with this. Alright is a definite standout, but the rest of the album also kicked ass. Supergrass joins the ranks of The Zutons of new bands I discovered via this project that I think I might actually return to with some regularity.

I've always liked this album, thanks for the reminder!

This is the first real listen I ever gave to Supergrass and I've been missing out. Excellent at what they are doing, even when it gets weird (and I actually very much appreciate when it gets weird) it is good. The first listen merited two more full listens all in the same day. And when Spotify suggested other similar bands/songs, they weren't nearly as good as this.

Awesome!!!

really fun and whimsical !!

Just some great riffs - really surprised by how much I liked this record. Rock n roll is so back baby

Pretty good. I like it more than I imagined when I saw it pop up. Jangly. Catchy. A bit dated, but still fun. 4/5

So this was one of those album that I didn’t know what to expect going into it, and at first, it totally caught me off guard, and not in a good way. Mostly because it was first thing in the morning, and it was a little too obnoxious, but a few hours later when I was driving in my car, I put it back on, and I was a little on edge with it at first, but as it kept going, I began to like it more and more. As I walk away from this album, I definitely enjoyed it, and I’ll play it again in the future.

Feels like im in a skate video and shits awesome

- insane energy - I definitely wanna go back to this this album rocks

- that was really enjoyable - poppy but not annoying - 3.5 but I’ll round up

Alright.

Didnt have time to listen to the whole album. Liked what i heard and really like the singles.

3.5 stars rounded up. "Caught by the Fuzz" and "Alright" are the stand tracks and singles. The rest is talented and very diffuse. Supergrass were always underrated britpop that achieved only a level of fame in North America by people who already loved the main britpop players (Blur, Oasis, Pulp) and who craved more. Supergrass' obvious talent and diversity probably worked against them becoming more popular outside the UK.

First time hearing this. While it has the energy of a good punk album, it’s more varied and musically interesting. A particularly great stretch early on between the fuzz and Alright. Rest is pretty solid, but doesn’t reach those songwriting heights.

Really cool album

Do you ever get those albums where you're half way through your first listen, absolutely loving it, and really hoping it will hold up until the end so you can give it a 5? Well this is one of those albums, and it only *barely* fell short at the end. I REALLY wanted to give this album a 5, I even listened to it twice to see whether it would be better on a second listen. And don't get me wrong, I still love this album, obviously. I am a big fan of britpop, and this is a band I had actually never listened to before. I was already familiar with the song "Alright", but other than that, I heard the whole album with fresh ears. There is such an amazing energy this album has, as is the case with most britpop. Vocals are great, lyrics are really fun, and the guitar riffs are incredible. What deducts a point for me with this, is that the songs "Time" and "Sofa (Of My Lethargy)", while perfectly inoffensive, do drag on a bit. Other than those 2 songs (which are still pretty decent), I loved absolutely everything about this album.

Sounds go Green Day and jack white in here, liked it

First half better than the 2nd but it's proper good overall still

A lot of depth for a Britpop album. Varied and fun.

Great tunes delivered with the energy of people who love what they're doing.

I said, in my last review of this band that the Supergrass first album was rollicking Good Fun. I stand by that, it’s super fun, super bouncy with a very upbeat feel good vibe. They have a natural ability to just make you smile and even the album title just make me laugh every time. Do I feel sad - I should Coco!!

Super fun.

As I mentioned before, I can't believe I didn't already know these guys and I am now a certified fan. This album was a little more frenetic — it feels like the record models a coke binge, from the spastic unrelenting pace and mania of the first 3/4 of the album to the come down slow down of the final stretch. This, more than "In It For The Money," is a situational listen — not right for every mood or occasion — but damn good and lots of fun.

Another hit album by the band I thought I did not know until I heard the song Alright and realized "of course I know this band!"

This was a pretty alright album! No song was particularly bad and I had mild enjoyment while listening. Solid 7.5 / 10 (4/5).

Enjoyable album with some great tracks. Strong throughout. 7

Как же я ахуел, когда услышал песню Alright. Оказывается, я уже слышал её примерно миллион раз )) А если по альбому: очень приятный переход от гаражного к приятному, с легкими нотками брит-попа. В целом на кайфах послушал

Nr. 137/1001 I'd Like To Know 3/5 Caught By The Fuzz 3/5 Mansize Rooster 4/5 Alright 5/5 Lose It 3/5 Lenny 4/5 Strange Ones 4/5 Sitting Up Straight 4/5 She's so Loose 4/5 We're Not Supposed To 3/5 Time 4/5 Sofa 4/5 Time to Go 4/5 Average: 3,77 Since I didn't really like In It For The Money, I didn't have high expectations for this. But I was positively surprised. This was a really fun and fast paced album.

LIKE: I'd Like to Know Lose It Time RECOGNISE: Alright They wrote St. Petersburg?

I wouldn't call this groundbreaking in any way, but it was really enjoyable. The only song I had heard before was Alright, which still hits, but Mansize Roof, Time, and Sofa of My Lethargy are even better.

I was very pleasantly surprised.

This is a great debut album and it has an energetic feel. Of course, Alright is an all- timer.

When this album came up I wondered how many dessert/stoner rock bands were mad a brit pop band took this name. I listened to this album 3 times.

I know the name Supergrass, but I'm not sure if I know any of their songs. Jk I totally know "Alright" - great tune! This is a really fun album!

I liked this? Especially side B. Where was this playing when I was a tween.

Britpop punk. Un megahit. Un 4.

Very interesting and fun.

Natuurlijk bekend van "Alright". Ik ken de band zelf verder niet, maar lekker album. 4/5.

Alright, Alright, Alright

Very upbeat, pleasant and fun rock music

Overall -this sounds a lot earlier than 1995, like new wave, I dig that -it’s a lot grungier and punk than I was expecting -they sound like the clash to me kinda? -I feel like they are really putting on a British accent, this ain’t even an Oxford accent -Time is prolly my favorite I’d Like to Know -Oh the guitar fucks -they sound like a specific song I’ve heard before Mansize Rooster -yes yes yes -damn they blended so many genres in this one song Alright -OH -this is the song I was thinking of before -oh the guitar fucks soooo hard Lose It -the guitar solo reminds me of Greta Lenny -guitar of course fucks but the bass is also slapping Strange Ones -the riff sounds so similar -I really like the tempo changes -Oooooo a bluesy as fuck guitar solo Sitting Up Straight -I like the riff -it’s giving Ok Go -I wish the guitar line was cleaner She’s so loose -the acoustic is real nice choice -this feels like hotel California or just the eagles meet RHCP we’re not supposed to -huh, ok -did they ever perform this live Time -I would scale a wall for this riff -oh sick, it got even better. Love the bluesy influence -oh I fucking love this Sofa -it’s giving Allman Bros / CCR meets Oasis Time to Go -the back half of the album is def a lot more blues -reminds me of how Greta closed out the Starcatcher album with “Farewell for Now” as a love letter to fans

Really fun

This was great! I was familiar with Alright, but didn't know anything else on the album or recall any familiarity with the band name. Super solid album, with some clear influences. I particularly enjoyed Sofa (Of My Lethargy) which spans several decads of style, but I particularly love the Sgt. Pepper-like sections. I'll probably listen to this again.

Subtle werewolves

What a great album that I never thought to check out in the 90s! I knew "Alright" but that was about it!

Britpop!!!!! :)

Very good. British indie pop. 1 song I knew. Listened to whole thing.

Once again it was quite enjoyable. I think it’s a low 4 for me again. I liked it maybe a bit more than the previous ones but I doubt I’ll listen to it again soon or check out the group more.

It was a fun journey from where this started to where it ended up. I was a little worried at first when it felt like Gene Belcher joined the guys who got kicked out of Green Day and Oasis, but warmed up to it pretty quickly and had fun throughout.
