Lost me at the bugs....then the weird video of the girls eating the food while crouched on the table....and the synthesizer type music. Not really "musical" IMO

I am in the minority but I have always hated this album. Gave it a listen recently for the first time in years and yes I still hate it.

1/5. This is just typical Flaming Lips. First song was awesome, and totally petered out from there. If only they used real instruments and didn’t make everything sound fuzzy would I be intrigued.
Not feeling this album— not good lyrics and don’t like the tune and sound. Too techno for me.

“This track sounds like a rip of Cat Stevens Father & Son”……sure enough Yusuf Islam has a writing credit - not because he was in the room but they ripped off his song and didn’t bother seeking permission. Album is unique but repetitive. 1 star for doing Cat dirty like that.

I didn't really get how everyone lost their minds when this was released, and still don't really get the appeal! It's easy listening, floaty pop that gets lost in the plethora of similarly themed bands. Could definitely see this being played in an elevator in some office building somewhere 😂

Can't quite work out why I don't like Flaming Lips, but I think it mostly comes down to the singer. He has a creepy uncle vibe that makes me uncomfortable, also, whiny vocals never work for me. Soft Bulletin overcame Coyne with some great songs and solid production. However, this one manages to hit my no switches early. Also, knowing we're building to the ploddingly theatrical single 'Do You Realize?' makes me dread the start of each new song. I listened through this thing once. Never again!
