point2.
This has never been my favorite Dylan album, but I think it's excellent, nonetheless. I do think it sags a little in the middle and that keeps it from getting to 5 for me, but there's some great stuff here. "Idiot Wind" is an all-timer, "Shelter From the Storm" is lovely, and my pick for underrated classic no one talks about enough is "If You See Her, Say Hello". Very high 4.5 stars.
Hmmm I don't think I can go 5 but I am a bigger than of this than I thought I would, low-mid 4
Another Dylan album that feels like it's almost a greatest hits record. Tangled Up in Blue and Simple Twist of Fate are all time classics. I have a real fondness for Idiot Wind, especially some of the super biting live versions... I think this song and Masters of War are cousins. It's tough. I think I have to give this a four, just because I think he has other records that are stronger top to bottom. That said, the good parts of this album are very very very good.
Yet another great era fur Dylan.
I'm not really into strummy guitar most of the time. However, once I got over myself (somewhat) and just listened to the stories being told, I enjoyed this album a lot. Who would have thought this iconic album would actually be good!
Bob Dylan is almost starting to rival Bowie in frequency - however this album was quite enjoyable unlike….
Bob Dylan is really hit or miss for me. I was curious how what many to consider his best album would appeal to me. It was really enjoying it until "Idiot Wind". The way he pronounces 'idiot' really set my teeth on edge and I had to endure almost five minutes of that one. The next two songs were great and then came "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts" which was so long, so repetitive, so utterly boring. It turns out: even Dylan's "best" is hit or miss with me. But the rest of the album was more good than bad, and I especially enjoyed "Buckets of Rain".
Just a calm no stress listen
Dylan does his thing. You either love him or hate him for it. This is classic Bob.
Yep, that's a Dylan album. It has some classics on it but it doesn't differentiate itself much from most of the rest of his discography. His story telling is still unmatched, though, so that gets him some points.
A classic! Definitely some good tunes on that one.
первый раз, когда целенаправленно слушаю Боба Дилана. несколько песен понравилось («tangled up in blue», «meet me in the morning», «if you see her, say hello» ) но всем альбомом не прониклась
JÄTTEbra album, så bra texter, jättefint, toppen, hade gett den 4,5/5 om jag kunde, kommer troligen bli 5/5 när jag läst texterna
3.5
bobi zawsze w moim sercu
Certainly one of the least annoying Dylan albums we've had. The singing and songwriting here are really strong and the album just passes by in a pleasant way. The opening song, Meet Me In The Morning, and Shelter From The Storm were the highlights. I was thoroughly surprised by how much of this was an enjoyable listen. That hasn't been the case on other Bob Dylan albums. I would grade this solidly as a 4, but it doesn't have the juice to get it near 5-status, even for the "legendary" Bob Dylan. Very good album though.
I'm not the biggest Dylan guy, but I remember really enjoying this particular album when I was first introduced in college. I think what gets me on this record are two things. First, this is some of the best production I've heard Dylan backed by -- it effectively layers and cleans his (often harsh) voice among beautiful instrumentation so neither overpowers. Second, the songs themselves are just well-written and cohesive. Tangled up in Blue is a solid folksy jam to kick things off. Actually love You're a Big Girl Now too -- such a pretty instrumental. Also love the organ support on Idiot Wind. Meet Me in the Morning is a great little jam. And Shelter from the Storm is probably my favorite song on here. I found this to be a nice, peaceful album and thoroughly enjoyed it. Solid to high 4.
This is the album cover I associate with Bob Dylan. Makes sense too because this has by far been his best album on here even though I have never listed to it fully. Perfect sound level of harmonica that wasn't ear splitting like has been a problem on a lot of his albums. Finally a great sounding Bob singing voice. Excellent song writing as always. Super enjoyable this is a high 4.
I think this is the 7th Dylan album we've had. Appreciate the man for the influence he's had but still not the biggest fan. I do love Tangled Up In Blue though. Really loving Idiot Wind and the way he pronounces it. Meet Me In the Morning reminds me of some song I can't put my finger on, but that guitar and fuzz in the background is glorious. Honestly one of my favorite Dylan songs I've ever heard. This is on par with Highway 61 Revisited for me. Highly enjoyable Bob Dylan but still can't push over the edge for a 5.
Solid. Think it will grow on me if I listen to it more but for now it was good. Light 8
Very very close to a 5. One of my favorite Dylan records.
first half is good, but the second half of this album is great
Feel good. Akustiskt och härliga inslag av munspel. +tangled up in blue
Hyvä dylani
Heard this one before, always love some Bob Dylan to inspire me to go travel the world
Gonna give it a few more listens.
Wait, folk can be GOOD??? Favourite Song: Tangled Up in Blue Honourable Mentions: Idiot Wind, Lily Rosemary And the Jack of Hearts
I really like Bob Dylan. Like a lot more than I realized before doing this endeavor. His voice is an acquired taste, but his songwriting is so good that I don’t even care. I only knew Tangled up in Blue previously, but I enjoyed this whole album.
Wonderful record that I’ve had for decades 4-5 for Bob!
His songwriting and emotional delivery is what makes this album so magnetic. He’s a one of a kind force. An acquired taste for sure but objectively he’s an amazing artist to be appreciated.
It’s Dylan…and his voice is hypnotic. It feels like the voice we need now.
Det är Dylan. Självklart stundtals helt fantastiskt. Simple Twist of Fate är en av mina absoluta favoriter. Men det finns oengagerande partier som bara rullar på. Därför blir det bara en fyra
Rightfully a classic.
Rating: 8.5/10 Another great Bob Dylan album, with amazing storytelling and good instrumentation. The singing is not as good as some of his previous albums as well as the instrumentation, but overall still a great album.
I love the lore of Dylan insisting he’s never Revealed Anything About His Whole Self. Actually not sure I had ever listened to this one start to finish. It’s great! Good Bob stuff right here.
Classic
I wasn’t as familiar with this era of Dylan. I saw the year and expected electric. Instead it was a soulful throwback to his folksy roots.
One of the better Dylans
One of my favorite Bob Dylan albums.
Pretty solid - stand out tracks being tangled up in blue, shelter from the storm and buckets of rain. The song buckets of rain is a 5 star song!
I remember when my roommate Paul from college gave me a recommendation to listen to Blood On The Tracks. My only real Bob Dylan exposure to that point was Like A Rolling Stone. I remember thinking that I just didnt get the style on most of the tracks and his voice was too much. As time goes on, ive really grown to admire Dylan and the entire sub-folk genre that he sits in (Josh Ritter as a more modern example) This time through, the sequencing really impressed me. The first five tracks on this are fantastic and flow really well into each other. You're A Big Girl Now and Idiot Wind are under appreciated.
Listen to enough Dylan and it’s easy to become a Dylan fan, especially the early stuff. I really enjoyed this album not only because he didn’t use his harmonica much but because it felt like Americana and looking at his world in the post-Vietnam eyes. Tangled Up in Blue is a classic song that really you can’t go wrong with. What I didn’t realize was Simple Twist of Fate was a Bob Dylan song since I always believed it was a Grateful Dead song. I still like both versions. The Shelter in the Storm is also a soulful, beautiful song as well that I’ve heard since I was a kid. I think my favorite song this time around was Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts. It was funky, poppy, and the lyrical flow was fun. Yep, I’ll probably hunt this one down on vinyl!
It’s always fascinating to read how this album was met with mixed reactions at release, only to later be recognized as a masterpiece. It’s a reminder that sometimes you can’t judge an album right away, you need to give it time to sink in, to be lived with before it reveals its depth. What stands out most is how personal it feels, almost autobiographical, but still universal in emotion. Dylan balances raw vulnerability with poetic precision, showing exactly why he remains such a monumental influence in music. It’s a deeply human record: reflective, weary, and timeless.
Sehr schön, tolles Album. Sollte sich noch eingehört werden!
Brilliant songs on this one. And still, I couldn't take it in one sitting. I had to take a day to return after "Idiot Wind." For all the Bob Dylan I've listened to, I have not yet warmed to his delivery. I write that as if there's a chance it'll change. I'm not betting on it.
enjoyable Bob Dylan album
Well, Bob, that's an improvement from last album for sure.
Clearly impressive in terms of songwriting. Need time to process the song lyrics
6/10 - Good album but not my style
Faktiskt bättre än vad jag trodde! 😌
I am not a Dylan connoisseur in any shape or form, so my opinion is not substantiated. I listened to this album after working 12 hours non-stop. It was more than a mumble in the background. I know, I did not make justice to the work that a guy did almost 60 years ago. Depressing. Would you care if I say that I think this was ok? How about if I say that I liked You are a big giiirl now? Well, that’s all
It feels a bit more produced than the other album, but relatively subtly, so I think that makes it a lot better. Again I think some of the story-based songs went over my head, but I think he must have had a lot to say on here as it’s quite long and some of them are 7+ mins. I probably said this before, but his songwriting and personality are the main attraction, and that still definitely stands for this, maybe more so. It feels a lot more polished, but I suppose it is about 10 years after when he had the budget and reputation to do that. Favourite songs: tangled up in blue, you’re a big girl now, idiot wind, meet me in the morning, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of hearts, if you see her, say hello. Overall around 7/10
I can't really get into earlier Dylan stuff, but from here on its great. Joan Baez did a better version of Simple Twist of Fate though.
An old favourite - surprised myself by deciding it's only a four.
I've never listened to as much Dylan as I probably should. Really, really enjoyed this though. Will be returning to this one.
8/10 Probably a perfect album but I couldn’t stop thinking about Timotee chalamet which was offputting
This is the first Bob Dylan album I actually enjoyed. Idl why, maybe because the harmonica was more understated? I can finally see why people like him
It's another Bob Dylan record. It's another great record.
I kind of wish I had heard this sooner! I never really branched out past Blonde on Blonde before, and this was great
I really enjoyed this album, not quite 4 stars without rounding up so I’m going to say 3.8 rounded to 4.
Favorite album
I can listen to this album a lot. I the same sense it doesn’t move the needle for me. All songs are good but no song grabs my attention. Good background music.
Used to be my favorite Dylan. Still great, but John Wesley Harding is perfect.
A bit of a shift from my preferred Dylan, Blood on the Tracks shies away from the folk storytelling that made him a star but had some real stand outs. Tangled Up in Blue and Shelter from the Storm are particular standouts, and as with a lot of Dylan, it's an album that really begins to shrine on multiple listens.
70s Dylan. His bestselling release. During marriage trouble. Voice is annoying but in an endearing way. He’s unique, that’s for sure. Just really lovely folk rock.
Doesn't hit the highs of his other records but I do love this album
Didn't like this as much as other Dylan. For most artists would probably be a 5.
I long since past having an issue with Dylan’s vocals and instead now appreciate the character it brings to his music. This feels like quite a tuneful Dylan album and is just generally enjoyable, despite there not really being a bit hitter in its tracklist.
Great songwriter and good album, but I struggle listening to his voice. This is the first, and probably not the last, Dylan album I've listened to in its entirety.
Is it just me, or Is Bob Dylan Rod Stewart, In negative form?
A quintessential Dylan album, sounds exactly like what you would expect 4.5*
First Bob I've heard in full. Cannot wait to hear more.
I typically don't like Bob Dylan for Bob Dylan; usually it's something else about the albums that will get me to listen (e.g., Al Kooper for Highway 61 Revisited, The Band for Blonde on Blonde or John Wesley Harding, etc). That being said, Bob Dylan's at his best on this one, I think! Or at least, on the rare occasions I feel like listening to Dylan, this is the one I tend to reach for. Can't give it a 5 because I don't like him enough, but it's a solid 4 for sure.
Grate 4.0
I love Dylan's songwriting, and "Blood on the Tracks" is no exception. Classic American folk music, great guitar, and strong lyrics.
Gaita canta no álbum! Primeiro do Dylan que escuto todo ...
This must be the 3rd or 4th Bob Dylan album I have had and I haven’t particularly enjoyed any of them. Then this one turns up and I think “ oh Christ here we go again” but! I don’t know if it that his voice isn’t as annoying or there is less harmonica, I am not sure but I actually enjoyed it.
3.5 stars Each song has its own unique and memorable characteristic that makes this an album to return to and keep enjoying. I don’t love it like some but I find it quite enjoyable.
vier plus tangled up in blue / Simple twist of fate
It’s theme of crumbling relationships is more focused than the more abstract and surreal Highway 61. I love the emphasis on narrative-based songs here. Still having to get used to Dylan’s voice.
this definitely sounds a lot more produced and polished than what i've heard from him so far. it sounds less like a guy sitting around playing guitar telling a story and more like bob dylan on a bigger budget. which by the mid-70s is i'm sure exactly what was happening. but it still manages to keep the essence of his earlier music with his detailed storytelling and acoustic feel despite the obvious changes which i appreciated.
Classic
Ok so I went into this album with the same mindset I do with all Dylan albums, which is it’s gunna be a lot of just an acoustic guitar and one guy whining, I gotta look past how grating it might be to see the craftsmanship and appreciate the talent that went into it even though I don’t actually really love it. That’s how I felt about the last 3 albums of Dylan’s that this list gave me. Not bad just an acquired taste I hadn’t quite achieved yet. But the good news is that I think this was the big payoff for constantly giving Dylan another chance and not giving up on it. Cause this album is actually great. And for a Dylan album, it is very accessible. It’s almost, ALMOST, rock music. Mind you I haven’t heard a lot of his albums other than the three others to appear on this list so far but I’d say this is his heaviest musically and my personal favorite so far. I was really won over by this album, and I feel like I appreciate his work a little more now. I’ll probably go listen to the other three albums again so see if I’ve changed on how I feel about those. Kinda wish this list would let me give a re-review of these albums after I’ve had a few months to sit on them. But regardless, this might be my favorite Dylan album yet.
Probably my favourite dylan so far, not so much wailing
Dope
I feel like most people have a complicated relationship with Dylan - I like it, but I can't be bothered sitting down to listen to it like it should be listened to
First time listening to Bob Dylan. Has a unique, simple way of singing. I found it catchy. Gonna give it a few more listens to better understand the stories.
Classic album. Not a huge folk fan outside of Dylan. By nature, notes can be repetitive and depending on how much he has to say, can be a bit droning. Very accessible and the tones musically and lyrically are solid.
Took me too long to finally come across the line referenced by Hootie and the Blowfish.
I thought I was not into it until it hit Idiot Wind and I just started sinking into the vibe of it, one of those that I might have to dig deeper in subsequent listens but on my first full listen, I think it's really good!
Really enjoyed this one. Not my usual fare at all but the storytelling elements and the banging backing music made it very enjoyable.
banger
This is okay. I don't like everything, but there's great stuff on it.
Know I like this already Yep this is great
Tangled up with Blue and Shelter from the Storm stay on my Bob Dylan playlist. Conveniently they truncate this album pretty well. It’s a solid album, though not as varietal as his catalog would suggest. But I think because Dylan is so prolific for him putting out on album with a similar sound is like most other people writing 2/3 songs in the same style. It’s an easy 3, probably closer to a 3.5 than a 4 for me. Nice way to spend an hour and I added a few lesser knowns so I’ll go with a 4.
Enjoyed this album more than any of the other Bob Dylan albums we’ve had so far. Dylans’s vocals didn’t seem as sing-songy and he actually carries a tune throughout. It wasn’t a slog to get through like the others have felt like, even with it being a 50-minute plus runtime. Added a few songs to my library and could see myself listening to this one by the fire over the summer.
I think I sorta 'get' that I will never fully enjoy Dylan but this album got pretty close, the genre itself is just not something I think lends itself to my musical interests or how I like to listen to music, but it might actually be my favourite album of Dylan's acoustic work. I once again didn't have much of a problem with the notorious Harmonica here either
the only release of bobby's that i really like. just good tunes. honestly a very simple album, difficult to write much about singer songwriter's, but this release is one of the few of these types of albums where the emotion behind it actually feels genuine in the both the instruments and the vocals, likely due to the fact that this is his epic breakup album.
Bob Dylan album I've listened to in the past and loved. Before I started rating music though. Every track was already liked on my spotify. Went through, banger banger banger banger. Was prepared for another Bob D W. Wasn't until the second listen through today that the cracks started to show. Yeah its a great album. Yeah I still like everything track with the unfortunate exception of Lily, Rosemary blahblah. But does it really have as any masterpiece stand outs. To quote The Cat in the Hat, "No not really, no" Tangled up in blue, Your a Big Girl now (Possible Smiths reference!?!), Idiot Wind, and if you see her, say hello. Fuck. And they fuck hard. Not enough to pull the album up to the heights of a Masterpiece like Highway revisited. This album got those relative tracks but Bob could only dream of capturing the relatibility of even the most average country western musician. 8/10
another Dylan after another kinks album? Weird, but ok. There’s a reason why he’s a legend. There’s a reason this album is on t
Mi primera experiencia con bob dylan
More of a 4.5, favorite: you're gonna make me lonesome when you go
tangled up in blue suuuper schöni drums und de song selber geil und cooli lyrics geil bobby. super super song kein plan um wases goht aber geil. simole twist of fate sind fallendi bassline type chords woni uuhuere geil find. you're a big girl now het au öppis irgendwie. idiot wind huuere funny aber au hässig glaub? youre gonna make me lonesome seeehr classic dylan aber de bass hebts irgendwie ab. i like. meet me in the morning fangt seeehr bluesig und seehr geil aah. oyeah. de jack of hearts shit au cool country stil wieder mol kei ahnig um wases würkli goht aber s gfallt mer waner verzellt? die letste 3 sind wieder meh stripped down aber finds super isch de bass amel debii. passt super.
tangled up in blue isch na cool, iwie tönts "sorglos", falls das sinn macht grundsätzlich find ich d stimmig bis jz seeehr herzig, befreit und hii und daa chli nostalgisch die einzelne lieder als solches sind voll easy mite ziit ischsmer jz chli zu folkig if you see her findi seeehr herzig au shelter from the storm! iwie intim cheg ih jz nacem 3. album de bob dylan besser oder gfalltmer das album rifach besser? also au bi dem album hets einigi lieder wo mier SEHR egal sind es git glaub es 4i
This is where he channeled his squirrelly energy and skills at preparing word salad into making narrative sense, a gentle counterpoint to the feral joy of the Basement Tapes that came out the same year. There is a lot of baggage that comes with liking or not liking Dylan, but these are some of his best lyrics.
I'm not the biggest Dylan fan, but this is really good. Good songs, great lyrics, stirring emotional vibes.
I have a lot of Dylan albums. Some good. Some not. I don't have this one for some reason. I probably need to remedy that. Like a lot of Dylan's output, some of these songs suffer a little bit from repetition and not knowing when to end in a timely manner. BUT...then again, that's also Dylan and if you're listening to Dylan, you have to expect that. The opening two tracks on this album are perhaps the finest Dylan has ever done. And there's plenty of great stuff scattered through the rest of it. Alas, at 50+ minutes...it's a tad long. A little bit of editing it down a tad wouldn't have hurt. I want to give this 3.5 stars.
my first Dylan album on this list and probably the first album of his that I've listened to in full. the writing is beautiful and this album indeed works best if you give it your full attention. the lyrics matter here.
I am still at Cathy’s so still only made it through one track the first one. I can tell it’s going to be good though.
Favorites: Tangled Up in Blue; You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go; Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts Possibly the last great Dylan record. Full of incredible songwriting and performances of all sorts as per usual, but this really feels like a callback to albums like Blonde on Blonde or even Freewheelin’. A return to form for Dylan, even if it is his last true return to form.
Serene storytelling and calming atmosphere.
Widely regarded as Bob's best album, so I'll leave that as that. Not my personal favorite, so just a 4. Now, as to all the bitching about Bob's voice/singing. It's not great - everyone gets it. But, it's also not bad. He's technically point; it's style and ability that lacks. And despite his voice, he's still one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. And that's him - he's been covered by better signers with only limited success. So you don't like it? Cool. But you cannot reasonably argue he's bad.
Šta ja znam taj singer songwriter stuff needs to grow on me, nije da je loše nego ja imam minimalan attention span i nemrem se koncentrirat na lyricse a glazba mi nije nekaj zanimljivs
I can’t tell if I love Idiot Wind or absolutely hate it. I think I love it? The album as a whole is a little one-note, but it feels like something that could grow on me like mold.
Favorite songs: Meet Me in the Morning, Tangled Up In Blue, Shelter From the Storm, "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts", Idiot Wind Least favorite songs: Buckets of Rain 4/5
Too much content about heartbreak 😭 something I need to be in a very specific headspace to listen to/revisit because a lot of it is tough to listen to
What Dylan fan can complain
I like it, solid songs.
You're a Big Girl Now". Um dos melhores dele, top 5 fácil.
A justifiable classic, Dylan at his best. Tangled up in Blue never gets old but I also love the bluesy Meet me in the Morning and the wonderfully bitter Idiot Wind - “As a matter of fact the wheels have stopped, What's good is bad, what's bad is good, You'll find out when you reach the top, You're on the bottom” Peak Dylan, but I’ve knocked one star off because off because of the wretched Christmas song he wrote decades later.
I liked that the songs told stories. A gentle way to spend an evening.
This could be my comfort music 🥲 Album rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I enjoyed this. I come and go on Bob Dylan, but there's more energy in this album than some of his other work, and it shows. I was skeptical at first, but ended up listening to the entire album without skipping a track. Solid four for me.
Not my favorite era of Dylan's, but this is still incredible. Tangled Up in Blue was slightly ruined for me because it's so hard to play on the drums on Rock Band 2.
I completely don’t know this guy but this album was good
I don't think I will like a dylan album better than this one
Classic Dylan.
Sanat tällä levyllä nousee esiin, selkeä ja helppo seurata mistä Dylan laulaa.
Bob Dylan's music is like the perfect office mate – he's always there, never too loud, and somehow makes everything feel slightly more profound. Give him a spin, and you'll be singing along (or not, let's be real, his lyrics can be a bit...out there). Either way, he's the perfect background noise for when you need to pretend to be productive. 4/5 stars – would recommend for work site playlist.
I'm not a big Dylan fan, but this is pretty good.
i LOVE this, like a lot. transported me back to year 10/11 which is slightly rough but still thoroughly enjoyed!! favourite is simple twist of fate and least favourite is lily, rosemary and the jack of hearts because that one was just a little TOO country for me and there was no need for it to be that long. but yes would choose to put some of these songs on again
The album was great. Heard new Bob Dylan songs. I’ve never heard before as well as an few amazing Classics.
I feel like after 3 or 4 albums from Dylan we get it. Yes, Dylan is a great songwritter, but do we need his full discography here? Sometimes this list feels like it was done by a lazy ass who want to look clever: "let's stack 10 albums of Dylan, 10 of Springsteen, the whole Beatles discography" and so on, so you can have like 200 records pretty easily with a small bunch of artists without sweating too much. I'd have prefer to have a greater diversity and only 1 or 2 significant albums from these people. (I'll copy this for future review if you don't mind.)
Fav: Idiot Wind
bobby did good later half more my vibe something abt loud harmonica and too raw of vocals hurts my head sometimes but heat
Definitely his best 70s album. This time around made me appreciate Buckets of Rain a whole lot more. This is for the maudlin types like me.
Sometimes I can't stand Bob Dylan's voice, other times it's the most beautiful and unique thing I've ever heard. In a music fight though Joni Mitchell would (and did) win. One of the greatest musical storytellers of our time.
Snuck this one in by 5am before Spotify went down today - all the while I was rejoicing to myself “Bobby finally locked in!” It only took him an affair in which he ruined his marriage to drop the rambly “leopard skin pillbox hat” style jingles. The contents of Blood On The Tracks are relatively more streamlined, accessible, and most of all, grounded. Not only did I enjoy the grounded nature of these songs much more than his previous works, I even found some of them to be very forthcoming and blunt. It seems like Dylan’s focus for this album rotates around three people: himself, his wife at the time, and the lady he is having an affair with. There’s a handful of reframings and fantastical stories, but all of those tales are clearly about this pod of three people. “Simple Twist Of Fate” is probably the first example of that forthcoming nature of this album (it’s so funny that he’s denied these songs being autobiographical in the past). “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” is another favorite of mine and maybe the most catchy of this bunch. “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack Of Hearts” is the most fun song for sure. Lastly, “Buckets Of Rain” has is a great closer, with a little acoustic riff that sounds like a melancholy version of that “In The Summertime” song and Reddit confirms that I’m not alone in hearing it. Thank you Bob for planting your two feet back down on earth and singing from the heart
3.7 , First time hearing it (long time beatles fan, and around that era, not particularly Bob Dylan's fan). Yes, I like it, lyrics are great (add a lot to the artifact), I like the folky style of dylan. And I also get that Dylan's way of singing is not for everybody... (I did not liked it at the beginning, but the power of his lyrics made me overcame that). Will listen again :)
Blood on the Tracks, Bob Dylan's 1975 album, undeniably pulses with the essence of the songwriter, featuring poignant and introspective lyrics that many associate with his tumultuous divorce. However, despite moments of lyrical brilliance, the musical production and overall cohesion of the album, when compared to his mid-60s creative peaks (Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde), position it as a merely average work within his vast and canonical discography, failing to reach the level of his true masterpieces.
Dylan was always a great story teller with a rough singing voice. Still to the plus with this early stuff
Blood on the Tracks is one of the better Dylan albums I've listened to—and I say that as someone who already considers himself a Dylan fan. I knew a handful of the songs going in, but this was my first time hearing the full album start to finish. It’s raw, emotional, and lyrically sharp in that classic Dylan way. There’s a depth here that sticks with you, and even the songs I hadn’t heard before hit hard. Solid listen all the way through. Favorite Song: Idiot Wind
It's funny. I used to love Bob Dylan. I just can't imagine putting this on and listening on my own. Don't get me wrong, this album is great. I can't decide if my tastes have changed or if music as a whole has.
Remembering my 'Highway 61 Revisited' review, talking about how I wished the mix was more balanced. 'Blood On The Tracks' seems a lot more put together, and don't get me wrong these are great songs, this is a great album, but I wonder if the best Dylan is the most disheveled Dylan. Like how the best tacos seem to come from the sketchiest trucks. Yeah this one just feels more tame. Just natural with getting older I guess.
This album has a lot weight around it form a legendary standpoint. The songwriting is beautiful. Dylan’s voice, as almost always, is bizarre. But he manages to take deep songwriting, an impenetrable voice and sparse musicality and make it accessible.
Not a huge Dylan fan but this is a great album
Leaving aside the issues of Dylan's genius and his voice, there are some pretty good songs on here (and a couple of duds). I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.
Certified Divorce Classic
Definitely sounds dated. Not sure how I feel about the harmonica as an instrument. He has an interesting voice… better than Bruce Springsteen’s.
Thoroughly enjoyable, though I find Dylan mostly a 'background vibes' kind of music. Tangled Up in Blue was the first song by him that I really enjoyed as a teenager, and I still love it.
Good

I'm a fan of folk, and a fan of Bob Dylan so this was a pretty easy listen. I wasn't sure during the album if I was going to rate it a 3 or a 4, but when the album ended and I found myself still listening to Bob Dylan, figured I better go with 4
Classic album with classic songs. Tangled Up In Blue, Simple Twist of Fate, and Shelter From the Storm are just incredible. It's hard to believe he had so many albums before this. Prolific. But, if you don't like Bob Dylan, this won't change your mind. It's got all the stereotypes. Ooohhhhhh plus harmonica plus ten verses. They're all great, I love them. But it's prototypical BD.
One of my favorites of his. An album chock full of Dylan classix. Drawbacks are his atonal singing gets a little tiring after a full album, and I can’t forgive sneaking on a boring 12-bar blues song (“Meet Me In the Morning”). Standouts: “Simple Twist of Fate”, “Shelter From the Storm”, “Buckets of Rain”
Another solid 4 from Dylan
1. Shelter from the storm 2. Tangled up in blue/meet me in the morning 3. If you see her, say hello
Great songwriting, mediocre-to-bad singing. But that's just Bob Dylan in a nutshell, I guess. I enjoyed it.
Admittedly I listened this while working and I already struggle with following lyrics on the first few listens. I'm a music-first listener. With that being said, I think this was a solid record with a few songs standing out. Overall it feels a bit slower and less energy. I absolutely loved Highway 61 Revisited because the music and energy grabbed me which helped me pay better attention to the songs/lyrics. With Blood On The Tracks I found myself not paying attention to the album at all for parts. My fav songs were Tangled up in Blue, Idiot Wind, Meet Me in the Morning, and Buckets of Rain
Was OK, not a big fan but remember this well
This is another album I wish I could talk to my Dad about. It came out the year after he graduated high school, I know he was in to this. I want to know his favorite songs. He always told the story about how he went to Bob Dylan's "last tour ever," and then felt like he deserved compensation because he went on to keep touring for decades after that. All that being said, I really enjoyed this album. It doesn't have the nostalgia/sentimentality that 'Freewheelin' has for me, probably because I haven't listened to it nearly as much. It feels a bit more polished, more rock, but still just as soulful...and bluesy? His voice, paired with the harmonica feels like blues music to me. He's another incredible story teller. I tend to overlook lyrics and go off vibes and melodies, but it's hard not to get pulled in to the words he's saying. It's like he's teaching you something you need to learn.
Oh Bob - you are a genius xxxx
The album has one of the songs of his I like the most, right at the start ("Tangled Up In Blue".) Solid Bob Dylan album, great songs lyrically, but man, that voice just... gah. Top tracks: "Tangled Up In Blue," "Simple Twist Of Fate," "Shelter From The Storm"
Once again Bob Dylan pens some incredibly poetic tales, accompanies them with a great blend of acoustic and electric instruments, and nearly ruins the whole thing with his shrill vocals. Tangled Up in Blue is a masterpiece and I don't mind his voice so much there. There are other songs where everything, including his vocals, come together just right - Simple Twist of Fate, Shelter from the Storm. But then there are songs like Idiot Wind, or should I say EEE-yid-i-ot Wind. Ugh. Meet Me in the Morning had a great blues sound but some tough vocal moments. Dylan is brilliant, but not perfect. A little too far away from perfection on this one.
Good shit
"Tangled Up In Blue" is truly one of Dylan's best.
I must say, after hearing many Dylan albums on this list, that I kinda felt tired about the prospect of hearing *another* Dylan album. Luckily this one was great, probably one of his best.
I'm not the biggest Dylan fan, but I think this is my favorite one so far. Low 4.
I enjoyed this. It was further evidence that I've been wrong to write Dylan off on the basis of his most commonly played tracks. I loved "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" in particular.
I liked this. Not sure I'd listen to it very much on its own but I wouldn't turn a song off during shuffle.
Truly have never really sat down to listen to any Bob Dylan music. I do know of him and know a couple tracks but don't know much of his discography. Something about this has me attached not wanting to change this. Pretty good though.
Although I never cared for any of the Bob Dylan albums I got previously, this one was pretty good. His song writing is showcased well and his guitar playing is stellar.
Solid album that I quite enjoyed. A lot of really good tracks without any real bangers.
It’s a classic, not his best but very good
Excellent on a Dylan scale. God knew if he gave Bob Dylan vocal talent, he’d be too powerful.
Bob Dylan aint so bad after all. this was short enough where I could appreciate the rhythms and instrumentals but I still hate his voice
I like bob and his iron sandwich
Great stuff from Mr. Zimmerman but doesn’t quite hit like some of his others. Maybe more time to grow on this one and it could be a 5 star
Niet zijn grootste fan maar dit was gewoon fijn om naar te luisteren. Werd er erg zen en chill van
ik deed wel een backflip toen ik zag dat dit het album van vandaag was TANGLED UP IN BLUE!
Bob😍
This is my FIFTH Bob Dylan album. FIVE. And is this one gonna be any good?! OH MY GOD IT IS! It’s so good! It’s his best album! It’s tight and sounds so good. BOB! We did it!!! BOOOOB!!!
Could maybe be a 5. Sounds great production wise. Vocals obnoxious at times. Feels like a grower and know it's a classic, but a 4 for now.
I do love me some Bobby and Blood on the Tracks is no different. The fantastic storytelling over blues/country/folk is always a great combo. I will say it isn't my favorite as I do love more 60s stuff from Dylan. Fav Tracks: "tangled up in blue" "idiot wind" "shelter from the storm"
White as hell music, I have to say, I don't normally listen to folk rock. I like Bob Dylan though. A true poet he is. He has a special talent of drawing the late 50s to 70s American society in a most allegorical, metaphorical way. Putting everything under a microscope sorta way. The lyricism are just so beautiful...rarely can I encounter such well written lyrics, guess fontaines did learnt a lot from him. I just have to give it a 4/5.
A great album of fantastic songs. Dylan is unmatched in the song-writing department. But he definitely is matched in the singing department, which is why so many of his songs become popular hits when covered by those who can sIng. It’s a 4, for sure — almost a 5. But, I would only play this album once through, at any one time; I would not put it on repeat or shuffle. So, I’ll stick with a 4.
Pretty good. Not my first listen.
Nice
Everyone gets their first intro to Dylan through his early ‘golden period’ albums, but I think this may be his best work outright. Idiot Wind and Shelter From The Storm were standout favourites on this re-listen.
Really loved this. Great lyrics, obviously, but his delivery is also so engaging. It still feels impressive. I don't have a strong knowledge of Dylan, but there's something about this that feels more intimate than I expected. I think this could be 5 stars if I had more time with it.
Great collection of songs on this one.
My first Dylan album. His voice is definitely an acquired taste but didn't think it detracted from the songs, which are great. Liked it better than I thought I would. Favorites: Tangled Up in Blue, Buckets of Rain Would I listen to it again: Yes
I liked alot! Maybe ill watch the movie
Pretty solid honestly, I enjoyed this a bit more than the other Dylan albums I've heard so far.
Not his best but still some great songs on here.
Liked it more than I thought I would
Some songs are too long. Overall nice album
Never really got into Dylan despite liking some similar artists. May need to reconsider.
Very fine record.
I own this album. The opener is a classic. Simple twist of fate always makes me nostalgic for a rainy day or rainy night.
Amazing recording deserving of a re-listen despite not being a Dylan fan.
Didn't expect to like a Bob Dylan record as much as I did
pleasant throughout, favorite dylan album thus far
7,7
Big up the bob. What a poet
Enjoyed this. Never really outstayed its welcome and didnt get boring. Sometimes for my Bob Dylan can get repetitive, but I didnt feel that way with this one. Idiot Wind, Tangled up in Blue, If You See Her, Shelter from the Storm, all highlights for me. Think it is my favourite Dylan album so far
I've never properly got in to Bob Dylan, know some of the big hits but as I wasn't able to get the other album we had on Amazon music this might be my first full one. I like the sound in general, nice to have on in the background. He tells a story in a song in a way that not many can, knows exactly how to get the most out of simple lyrics I think. That said I don't think any of the songs were as obviously great as the bigger hits I know, it was all just quite good. 3.5.
Bob is great. Not my personal favourite Dylan album - I like his earlier (The Times They Are A-Changin'), and his later work (Tempest), but this is super. I liked Idiot Wind the best. A great storyteller, a knack for capturing a national mood, and an interesting vocalist. There aren't many like him left.
Loved it before, bowled over by it now
A very good classic Bob Dylan album. The lyrics are masterful but occasionally hidden behind Bob's mumble. Gets rounded up for having Shelter from the Storm on the album, an all time great song. 7/10 (3.5/5)
A true shock from the Bob Dylan hater
first time listening to this album. simple twist of fate absolutely beautiful song! idiot wind is looong but has such emotion to the vocals. meet me in the morning is a lovely song. the jack of hearts song is way too long but hey, at least it inspired joan baez to write “diamonds and rust” so thank you bob. shelter from the storm, another lovely song. the guitar riff in buckets of rain remind me of the song “in the summertime”. a really nice song that!
Enjoyable
One of my favorite Bob Dylan albums. Tangled up in Blue is such a great song.
Really liked this album. Enjoyed the melodies, beat, and instrumentation. Dylan’s voice is so unique and calming!
Once you get to the early 70s, you have to be all in on Dylan to be able to tolerate his voice most of the time. It's really an acquired taste. Lyrically this record is a gem, with no two songs alike. I can't do repeated listenings of 70s Dylan, sonically it's just not for me. But I can't deny the genius.
9/10
Good album.
Suuuper lovely record. Passionate, electric, and CLASSIC in every form of the word. Nothing much more to say, heard this one a bit ago. 4 stars <3
LOVED LOVED LOVEDD
i think that part of the reason i enjoyed this album is because bob looks like fran lebowitz on the cover
Classic
You don't have to do much other than throw a Bob Dylan album at me to make me happy. I absolutely love this man's music. I'm really looking forward to more of him throughout this project. This isn't his best, by far. I honestly thought he didn't do anything worth listening to outside of the 60's, so this was a nice surprise. But the typical Dylan sound (save for a few tracks that veered in directions I didn't care for) is here, his voice hasn't deteriorated yet (though if you ask some, it was never good to begin with), and the classic bite in his lyrics is as present as ever. I don't have a lot else to say. It's Dylan. I love him. Four stars. Standout Tracks: Tangled Up in Blue, Simple Twist of Fate, You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, Meet Me in the Morning, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, Shelter from the Storm, Buckets of Rain
I liked it way more than I thought I would.
I enjoyed this Dylan album the most of his albums on this list to date. Interesting that he ended most with a harmonica play.
Surprised I had never heard any of this before. Like an Aussie/NZ version of CSNY
On previous albums, Bob Dylan didn't click for me, but he does here. Excellent lyrics and a music less whiny singing voice. The harmonica is also toned down a bit, which helps the songs
Mooi album.
Great melodies great songs, some songs I don’t like like idiot wind, but the first half of this album is straight bob Dylan bangers. Not my cup of tea but if I was like at home relaxing maybe I’d like it more.
It's good stuff. Just not my favorite Dylan. Still certainly worth a listen. Unexpected bangers: Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts; Meet Me in the Morning
Fantastic storytelling. 4/5
I feel like I should have paid a lot more attention to this, but I liked what I actually paid attention to.
Beautiful opening, still wish he wasn’t singing
Enjoyed listening to it. Like a bunch of short stories being told by a haggard traveler. The production or recording quality could have sounded better. I’d listen to it again in the future, I’m glad it’s in my 1001 playlist now.
Had anyone ever mentioned Bob Dylan's voice is odd? Probably not
Great album.
A very pleasant listen. The overall album gives context to the hits.
This is a strong album with some great Dylan tracks. It is an acoustic album so the sound is pretty consistent for a cohesive sound. It is for sure one of his better albums from his long career.
Really live the vibes with Bob always!! Best song: jack of hearts
Not a huge BD fan, but can appreciate where he fits in influence and the history of the music I do fan over.
This was soooooo much better than the previous Dylan offering and I really liked it. Less harmonica, clearer lyrics and songs that actually sounded in tune. This is the Dylan I was expecting and hoping to hear. Idiot Wind was a particular favourite and in all definitely an album I’ll relisten to.
The usual excellent songwriting and distinctive voice from our Bob. I liked this album it has plenty of catchy songs.
Good work Bob
Simple Twist of Fate is one of my very favorite tunes to listen to and to play. Lots of other good material on here but I don't know this record as well as I should....yet.
I'm not very familiar with Dylan's impressively massive discography, so most of this album is new to me (with the exception of "Tangled up in blue" and "Shelter from the storm", and maybe "Simple twist of fate"). I like it that the songs seem more personal than much of what I associate with Dylan, although I'm not sure why he protested so much that the songs weren't "confessions" or about his experience. His strength as a songwriter is clearly on full display here, but the music itself isn't all that interesting or inspiring, and it's hard to disagree with Mike Bloomfield's assessment when Dylan toured him through the album: "They all began to sound the same to me; they were all in the same key; they were all long." I can tell this is a seminal album for Dylan, and a few of the songs on this album are really transcendent (mainly the ones I'd heard before), but the rest are frustrating to me as a non-Dylan-fan, as they could have been much more interesting if they hadn't been rushed through production (with the exception of "Meet me in the morning"). That said, I suspect giving this only four stars will land me in Dylan jail... :)
This was the first one that took me beyond his greatest hits. Good songs, nice guitar throughout and his voice is better than it often was. Could this be a little more bearable for a younger generation? 🤔 😀
The best Bob Dylan album we’ve had on this list so far. More acoustic focused which is where he shines, and the tracks that have electric guitar use it tastefully like ‘Meet Me In The Morning’. His vocals are significantly better and less annoying than in Highway 61 Revisited. He actually sings well in this one. Still not convinced he’s the genius people claim he is but this gets the thumbs up from me. Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts is the standout track - what a story!
Really enjoyed this
I really liked this. Love the incorporation of harmonica into the music followed up by Stevie Wonder then Blues Traveler.
Great album -- a great transition from his 60's-era folk to something more layered.
Kinda undeniable! Pure-strain, vintage Dylan. I don’t love every song but I like most of them!
More succinct but still really quite strong. Less love than blonde on blonde cuz instrumentation is less exciting but v close.
Great album!! Simple Twist of Fate is one of my favourite Dylan songs ever. An under-known gem of a song.
Good stuff.
I really have developed a love for Bob Dylan's music recently and this album is a fine example of some of his better work.
++*: Simple Twist of Fate, Meet Me in the Morning ++: Idiot Wind, You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, Shelter from the Storm, Buckets of Rain +: Tangled Up in Blue, You're a Big Girl Now, If You See Her, Say Hello 9,6/10
Best Bob Dylan album so far. He put some real effort in singing. The guitar work is lovely.
Ett album med Dylan räcker alldeles utmärkt. Och jag hann lyssna på hela mellan rågsved och globen tack vare förseningarna
Probably the most enjoyable Dylan album I have heard. I’m not a huge fan but it was a good listen.
Cool to hear
Perfectly pleasant afternoon music
I haven’t explored much of Bob Dylan’s catalog beyond his early work and now this album. His earlier albums didn’t really grab me, but this one stands out. From what I’ve read, he had moved away from his folk-rock roots for a while and came back to them with this record. One thing I picked up on is how much more mature this album feels, probably because a lot of the lyrics revolve around his personal experiences with his divorce. You can really sense the life experience behind his words, which gives the songs more emotional weight. Over all, this was a pretty solid album, and I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Would listen again
With 7 albums to be generated. at some point it will either click fully or i'll hate the sound of his voice. So far this is the best of the 3 albums i've had, almost every track is memorable.
Very good. Needs another listen.
The benchmark for divorce/break-up records. Very moving but not in your face like these types of thematic albums sometimes end up. This is also the album that usually gets compared to whenever Dylan releases new material, there's always at least one music journalist that declares the new album as "Dylan's best since 'Blood on the Tracks'". I find that vaguely amusing. Key tracks: Tangled Up in Blue Simple Twist of Fate
It's no Blonde On Blonde, but nothing else is. It's still a great album with wonderful lyrics, and it's clearly Hootie's favorite Dylan album.
A classic and must listen
A sparkling return to form for Bob Dylan.
I enjoyed the instrumentals and it feels like a love album and Bob Dylan talking about it and his own personal issues, especially in his relationship. Feels new and at least not like it's from 1975. I haven't listened to a ton folk albums but I have enjoyed this one. Nice to listen to while studying :)
I love to listen to Bob. This was a great relisten too. So many songs I had forgotten.
I feel like no matter which Bob Dylan album I'm listening to, it feels like home, the rich painful melodies that he sings it gets me
Some beautiful songwriting and lyricism Favourites: Tangled Up In Blue You’re a Big Girl Now You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go
Loved it. Heard a bunch of new tunes, and while I'm a bit played out on Dylan, I'd definitely come back to this album over most (or all) of his other ones.
Papa is a rolling stone
Bastante bueno, genial folk, uno de los mejores de Dylan
My first Dylan album only took 264 days to get here. There are some standout tracks on this. But I think it peters out at the end. Still some great songwriting on this. 4/5
Meet me in the Morning/buckets of rain
Favorite Track: Shelter from the Storm
I feel like bob hasn't made the most consistent albums, but this one is tight. Just banger after banger of some of the most depressing and lonely folk ever. huge album.
in yet another Cruel Twist (of fate) i now i have to talk about my blood on the tracks opinions. im a huge dylan fan (been very slowly doing a discog dive), and this is not only a great album but one that does (and should) jump out to many people as their favorite. in one of his early-ish live recordings dylan throws out a quip that he needs to adjust his "bob dylan mask", and this sentiment is surprisingly core to his entire body of work: dylan's mystique is his use of Artistic Artifice, not to Hide some "true identity" but to express that Truth and Identity are inherently multifaceted and irreducible. bob dylan is not an Authentic Country Star a la nashville skyline, but that albums existence and his playing that role on it still reveals something about him...its a very freeing body of work for me in that way. the unique appeal of blood on the tracks is that it is the most bob ever stripped away those layers of abstraction...it has some of his most direct and instantly emotionally readable lyricism (at least thats not a pastiche of some kind) and just pricks right at dylan's real personal life and emotions with total transparency. this is why i think even a lot of ppl who dont like dylan writ large like this one...its a unique and disarming appeal within his body of work. that all being said, as someone who Does like dylan writ large, specifically the way he uses the layers of abstraction he tries to strip away here, im left with an album that is often affecting but occupies my mind and heart very little compared to much of his other acclaimed material...its all kinda Right There, ive never personally found much to chew on or dig through. probably best illustrated in lily rosemary and jack of hearts, which is fine but so straightforward and grounded and literal compared to the dylan Epics that proceeded it that it holds up a lot worse on repeated listens. album is still great obviously, melodies are wonderful, so is his singing, so are the lyrics on their own terms, but even compared to dylan's self-consciously Slight music (nashville skyline and self portrait, two of my favorites), theres not a lot that i get stuck in here
Solid Dylan work
Amazing folk album
I like it a lot, but I'm not a fan of every track on here and some drag on for too long.
This is either 3 or 4 for the number of Bob Dylan album’s I’ve got. One of the better ones I’ve listened to. Felt like he actually sang for this one. Had some pep in his step. Good messaging as always, and the music accompanying him isn’t just acoustic guitar and harmonica for a lot of the songs. Standouts: Simple Twist of Fate, You’re a Big Girl Now, Idiot Wind, Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts, and If You See Her, Say Hello.
I've never listened, I mean a full album in one sitting, to Bob and my first listen made me think why. Whiney voice, incoherent lyrics and terrible harmonica. I then gave it a 2nd blast and actually really enjoyed it. I think familiarisation and becoming more tuned to the tracks made it more understandable. Definitely going back to this.
Great song-writing. More subtle anger than earlier work.
4 out of 5. I found this album to be much better than The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and though I gave both albums a four, Blood on the Tracks has the better, more solid, sound.
Took some time before I really started to enjoy it, but it's undeniably a strong Bob Dylan album.
I like this one from Bob. I actually bought this album at the time it came out. Has some really good songs on it.
Sa far my favorite Dylan album
