Reviews (page 8 of 14)
I'm drawn more to this album than most of his others. Just so many great tracks on this one. I hear a different type of depth in these songs, a maturity of sorts, but it's not overly self-referential or ponderous. I'm still very much engaged and entertained. Superb.
This was the fourth or fifth time listening to this album from start to finish. In general, Bob Dylan's singing style can be wearing at times, but I continue to thoroughly enjoy his music despite this. This is one of my favorite albums of his.
This was really good. Some songs I knew but lots I hadn't heard before. The man can sure put together an album, no doubt about that.
listened b4, gr8 for when ur emo but im not rn.
Another solid Bob Dylan album. "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Idiot Wind" are great tracks.
Fave Bob D album
I think this album is slightly overrated, but it’s still prime Dylan and Shelter from the Storm is a classic
There's something in this album that keeps me from enjoying it to what I presume is the intended effect. Dylan's songwriting and storytelling are magnificent, it's just that, well, his voice is so goddamn goofy that it takes me out of all the sorrow and moroseness that I was expecting to hear coming in. It sounds like he's smiling on every track-- and it's hard for me to not just smile along when I pick that up. It's still a stroke of genius, though... even with the false advertising I received. A different 4/5 than I expected to give.
Stellar storytelling all over this album, but much different from the Freewheelin Bob Dylan I listened to earlier (which was my first Dylan album ever). While that one was full of storytelling and commentary on the social and political climate at the time, this one felt more personal, directly pulling from the problems with the relationship with his then wife, and the heartbreak, desperation, and unease leading to their divorce. It's immensely well done in that regard, with songs like Simple Twist of Fate and You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go. The instrumentation mirrors the album mentioned previously, which honestly is a strength in simplicity and lets the storytelling shine. This is something I can see myself listening to again to appreciate things I may have missed, there's so much going on in the lyrics that I feel like one listen doesn't do it justice. But it was very much enjoyable.
i always start sceptical but then its just superb songwriting and i have to admit its nice
This is a nice album with some great songwriting and storytelling. Not sure if it's my favourite Bob Dylan album but think I was in the wrong situation to appreciate this folk album to its fullest. Still very good though and I might come back to it when I need some emotional folk music. Favourite: Meet Me in the Morning
4.25
I had never heard a Bob Dylan album from start to finish. I really enjoyed it!
Some great stuff, a few forgettable ones
I always like a little Bob Dylan. He has that tone in his voice that you need to be in the mood for like Willie Nelson or Tom Waits. Tangled up in Blue and Shelter from the Storm are great. Really enjoyed Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts.
Tangled Up in Blue (probably the best song he ever made), Idiot Wind, You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts and Shelter from the Storm. Obviously great lyrics and story telling. A little slow in places. Dylan is almost too advanced for me.
Fantastic story telling. The instrumentation is a little too country sounding for my taste but despite that it's a great album. FS: Tangled, Idiot
A tuneful album by Bob standards. Great lyrics.
Good songs are great but he still can’t sing for shit
Maybe not my favorite Dylan album but excellent. Idiot Wind, You’re Gonna Make Me Lonely, and Rosemary are my favorites - just classic Dylan spitting bars.
Musically, I would say this one is lacking a bit but the strength of these songs is in the storytelling and that’s enough to carry this album to 4 stars
I, like many amateur music listeners, have heard a handful of dylan tracks. ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ and ‘Knocking on Heavens Door’ are just two that immediately come to me. Blood on the Tracks is the first dylan album i have listened to entirely and what a treat it was. dylan is famed for his poetry and narrative writing in the lyrics and this album shines that skill brightly. each track contains its own story, all with sentiment, heartbreak and loneliness, and even then that doesn’t contain the range of emotions. these themes pair neatly with his vocals; raspy and nasally and perfectly fits the mystical and whimsical nature of the stories in the tracks, much like the decision to go back to folk rock. one day i will grow to enjoy folk music more, which does impact my overall enjoyment of the album, but that doesn’t mean a gal can’t change, nor does it change how brilliant this album is.
First and I think only Bob Dylan on the list that I actually properly enjoyed, rather than tolerated
Some classic tunes
Pretty good, although I am not surprised.
This is definitely a great era of Dylan! Upbeat, fun story telling, great humour and some heartfelt ones thrown in there. I wasn't overly familiar with the album as a whole but really glad that I've heard it.
Great
Dylan is a great lyrical storyteller. The raspy voice along with the folk rock sound just really works together well.
An unbelievable 6th Dylan album in my first 200 reviews. I do actually like this one and have it on vinyl. The songs are all melodic without cranking up the "Dylan voice" too hard.
Some tracks are amazing, others less so.
My first experience of listening to Dylan and I liked it
Personally I like 'Desire' better but I like this phase of Dylan. He's a real storyteller- I won't say he doesn't regurgitate the same songs, subject matter or style but he does do it well.....
It's Bob Dylan:))
Not much to say beyond what has already been said. Classic Bob, the best of his surreal imagery, solid backing band and vivid storytelling. 🂻🂻🂻🂻
Really interesting and thought provoking album.
4/5
Dylan was one of those artists that passed me by for years. I was in my late thirties before I listened to any of his albums. This was the first and it’s my favourite by miles.
Awesome folk singles in here
4 It’s Bob Dylan
Yet ANOTHER album that reminds me of driving with my dad. Never been a huge Dylanhead myself but I really do love this album and the memories tied to it
One of our Dad’s favorite albums. I really solid album with a ton of fun stories sprinkled throughout. Personally, it’s my 4th favorite Dylan album. But that’s still like a 4.2/5 for me.
Definitely one of my favourite Dylans
A fine album by Mr. Zimmerman. Almost flawless. The first three tracks are a great listen. It kind of drags in the middle, but that's just me. It finishes strong.
4.0 + This one gives me vibes. I'm reminded of a gritty New York-based film from the 1970's (e.g. "Dog Day Afternoon"). We see shots of morning commuters bustling through midtown, subway cars riddled with graffiti, honking cars sending up street debris in their wake. Against this backdrop, our everyman hero (white dude with feathered hair, flared jeans and tight leather jacket) is navigating a sea of unfriendly faces searching for his one true love. He regrets some of his past flings ("Tangled Up in Blue") but is open to new possibilities ("Simple Twist of Fate"). Along the way he finds himself smitten ("You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome..."). After some distractions and general romantic turbulence ("Lily, Rosemary.."), our hero gets the girl and they fall in love ("Shelter From the Storm"). Roll credits.
This is Dylan at his commercial best. Moving away from the ultra folky sound and moving towards the then contemporary band stylings in the 70s this album combines his masterful songwriting with a full ensemble of instrumentals. Probably one of his best albums and has some if his best songs. This is one that can be replayed many times and new lyrics will be picked up each listen. Really enjoyed this album. 8.2/10
Dylan's albums are like pizza: Even bad pizza is good
Best: Meet Me in the Morning Worst: You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome Very enjoyable
Not listened to much Dylan before. Was quite good for a work focus session
Classic Dylan. Enjoyed running through a whole album of his - it's been a while!
There are so many versions of Bob Dylan. Do people have a preference on which Dylan is their favorite? How polarizing is his voice? Based on strong familiarity with a few Dylans, I love his harmonica, I love his opting for lyric repetition in a verse instead of a traditional chorus, and it's hard to beat his story telling. A love song like "Simple Twist of Fate" definitely gets to me. A story forcing the listener to travel from one twist to the next in the tale of a hopeless romantic. I'm a sucker for lyrics. "Meet me in the Morning" definitely popped to me. Bob slowed it down a bit, with the oomph in his voice just felt a little different here, and the two guitars ending the song felt right. "If You See Her, Say Hello" reminded me of "Girl From the North Country" with some similarities in lyrics. "Buckets of Rain" is a nice ending to lull me away from the emotional journey that was Blood On The Tracks. "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Idiot Wind" definitely have a little nostalgia factor from youth. Yet there's almost too much all over the place. The biggest example for me being a song like "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts". Too much happening to hear in just one listen. I wish I had more time to listen to this album before a final rating. It comes to me as a 4 off the bat because of expectations I (unfairly?) put on this album before listening. Any Bob Dylan album I listen to is a slow burn while I familiarize myself with his stories, and pick up on themes and derive meaning more and more with time. Come back to me in a week or two. Most likely a future 5, but that's not how this works.
Songs were great, but blended together because they were based on stories, which I had a hard time picking up the first listen. Still a wonderful album with great guitar and harmonica
Nice album!
Lovely album, you can definetely manage not being the greatest singer when your songs are good enough
I like it. This kind of 70s stuff is very much in my comfort zone. It makes me think of summer and the Bob Dylan-ish phase I went through in college when I was smoking other people's weed and going around braless a lot.
I’m not familiar with Dylan’s discography and know only mainstream tracks like One more cup of coffee or Like a rolling stone, but I like his music. So, I don’t feel I’m able to judge it somehow or make any comparisons. Just want to say, the album is cozy and pleasant, I enjoyed the ride!
I've always struggled to get into Dylan, whilst of course recognising that what he does is unique and lyrically brilliant. This is a great album though, and reminds me of what I'm missing.
O grande mestre e pa
The best Dylan? Hmm.
I still struggle with Dylan, but the song writing here is undeniably great
Fine album from Bob’s back catalogue. 4/5
Despite my overall affinity for, and obsession with folk music, i still find myself unable to warm up to Bob Dylan, inarguably the king of folk itself. i know that “Like a Rolling Stone” is one of the greatest songs ever written — a jeeringly cynical take on the humanistic inclination for individualism — and yet, i don’t know that there’s any songs on Blood on the Tracks that attempt to match the heights of that masterwork. i can hear the brilliance: “Tangled up in Blue” is a hell of a way to open an album — ruminations on love don’t get any more searing; “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” is rich and evocative in its descriptions of romantic pain; and if any song thus far could even attempt to challenge “Like a Rolling Stone”, “If You See Her, Say Hello” might have a chance. Dylan is a brilliant songwriter, heaping pages and pages of story in a single stanza, playing with words like a swiss blade. but i still struggle to connect here — maybe it’s because nothing on here sounds novel to me as they clearly did in 1975, or maybe this is the wrong Dylan album to start with as someone who’s never listened to much of his work beyond “Like a Rolling Stone” (and the masterful “Murder Most Foul”, a late-era Dylan that ripped me to pieces, minute after minute). there’s a bounty to love on Blood on the Tracks, but it’s obvious my Dylan journey does not begin here.
I'm not a big Dylan fan but I liked this one. Has probably my favorite of his, Tangled Up In Blue.
Great album with some all-timers like 'Tangled Up in Blue' and 'Shelter from the Storm'. Gonna have to take a whole star off for 'Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts', which properly sets my teeth on edge.
a classic though the first track is the best
I've often felt that Dylan was one of those artists that I did not pay enough attention to. This was a great piece of work that showed that not all highly successful artists just phone it in as they get older.
Definitely my favourite Dylan record.
Super. Bob Dylan never disapoints
Dylan, not all are gems, but he's a master and I enjoy the sound.
Great opener. I like Dylan when he is louder and showing more energy and I love a good strong opener like "Tangled up in Blue". "Idiot Wind" has some Dylan tropes (for lack of a better word) that I don't particularly like- like these little end-of-phrase SHOUTS at higher pitches that I always found to be kind of annoying. 2:25-2:30 the lyric "are", 2:38 "stars". I think they are kind of like an easy way out of a phrase when he can't figure out what to do with the end of a melody. i do really like the lyrics and performance though and overall the song is too good to be brought down by these little vocal things that I don't personally love. I like the next track, "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go". The guitar work is impressive and uses more color chords (sus2 and sus4's) which is atypical for really straightforward folk singer-songwriter music. The closer, "Buckets of Rain", was a nice track to hear while sitting next to an open window with an all-day rain. Nice to have something related to rain / a rainy day and not be either jazz or gloomy. Overall, this is a great Dylan album. Middle/high 4/5.
Blood on the Tracks is clearly massive Dylan, but contains precious little bombast. Its concentration is in tenderness, but it also manages to prevent fifty minutes from dragging. Some excellent songwriting, not totally opaque to a first and amateur listen.
I don't really like Bob Dylan. But I really liked this.
Never listened to this Dylan album. Really excellent, surprised I'd never heard it. 4 stars, may grow into a 5 with time
Not my default Dylan album to listen to, with Desire or the classic 60s ones more typical. There are lots of great tunes on here but it's a bit less varied than his other great records. I get the praise, but there are better ones!
One of Bob's best.
Songwriting at its peak
Classic
pretty ok nice jingly jangly folk rock with lots of soul but sometimes boring compositions.
Despite not being a fan of Bob Dylan, this one was decent. Prefer his acoustic stuff more so it fits right in my street, even if his twang can be annoying. Shelter in the Storm and Tangled up in Blue were the highlights, and no song was particularly weak.
Listens: at least 5 Enjoyed: yeah Gave this a few extra listens as I was tempted to give it a 5. However I just feel like something's missing. I appreciate it as a masterpiece and would definitely go back to it. I just didn't connect with it, I didn't love. But it would be a very very high 4
4.5
Classic album, engaging songwriting throughout.
Not his best one, but among his better ones - at least from the four or five Dylan albums we've had on this list so far. The album starts with the best song and can't keep up that same quality unfortunately - but still a very good listen.
Amazing
4.75
One of my fave albums.. coming back to it is always a joy. Classic.
I mean it's Bob Dylan. It's groovy, it's bluegrassy, it's got it's own twang. I ca
Pretty okay
This album was fantastic, i knew Tangled Up in Blue was great but hadn't heard the rest. The standout track gor me was Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts It's still a Bob Dylan record though, and like most they come off feeling a bit.. formulaic at the end? Not that it's bad, just a bit too similar to his other work to give it 5 stars. Perhaps multiple listens would convince me otherwise
Tangled up in blue- interesting and complex narrative with a short hook and a great instrumental👍 Simple twist of fate- another solid narrative👍 You're a big girl now- pretty devastating song about an almost one sided breakup👍 Idiot wind - bit too long and meandering for my tastes You're going to make me lone some when you go- pretty catchy👍 Meet me in the morning- bit samey after a while Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts - not something would want to listen to frequently, but enjoyable If you see her say hello - conflict between obvious vulnerability that he feels and his attempt to present as stoic masculine figure👍 Shelter from the storm - One of the weaker tracks Buckets of rain- just okay All in all, l was pleasantly surprised as l wouldn't consider myself a fan of Bob Dylan. However, some very good tracks on here 4/5
Nice chilled out vibe
Good old Bob Dylan sound
My third favourite Bob Dylan album. Tangled up in Blue is arguably my favourite Dylan track and overall it is a perfect folk album that can be appreciated by anyone not just the Dylan die hards
VINTAGE BOB; GOOD TRACKS ON THIS ALBUM.
really great, very rich and layered with great lyricism and unique vocals.
ok
He's got a great voice but outside of the hits it kinda fell short for me
Strong album from the master of the nasal vocals. The arrangements are really great, a lot less minimalistic than his earlier stuff, and the lyrics are quite exquisite. Strong 4.
To me, Bob Dylan is much more about songs than albums, however Blood on the Tracks is perhaps one of his finest works as a record. Tangle Up in Blue, Idiot Wind, Simple Twist of Fate and Buckets of Rain are amongst my favorite Dylan songs. There's a unique spirit in those tracks, conscious and honest lyrics, a soulful interpretation and musically, it's just enough catchy.
Don't think I've really listened to this before, but if I'd have come across it in my uni days I'm sure it would have become one of my fave Dylan albums. He sounds.... happy? - in almost every song! Fave track - "Tangled up in Blue" is a great opener. "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" and "Shelter From the Storm" were also stand outs...
While Dylan's use of a dusty open-E tuning on the acoustic numbers tends to make those songs sound very similar, this album serves as a strong and surprisingly diverse comeback album for Mr. Dylan in the middle of a decade in which he hadn't released new music for awhile. It's not a perfect record; the back-to-back tracks 6 and 7 don't really fit in with the rest of the bunch. If those were removed, the album would better cohere and never feel overlong. For the most part on this record, Dylan's lyrics turn inward to discuss his difficult dealings with his lady. His tumbledown voice quite effectively evokes the appropriate emotions. Favorite tracks: 'You're A Big Girl Now' and 'Idiot Wind' 4/5
Great album
Tää oli joskus eka Dylan levy, josta tykkäsin. Edelleen kova.
A really nice album with some sweet acoustic songs.. Crazy that this was Dylan's 15th. I hadn't really given his works a lot of listen to in the past and tbh I'd never heard of any of the tracks on this album prior to listening. Will defiantly save to my catalogue :-)
Good shit
Bucket of rain
The perfect breakup album. Blood on the Tracks comes with Dylan's greatest song to boot, opening the album with the incredible Tangled Up In Blue. It's a masterwork comparable to Van Gogh's best paintings. It's also Bob Dylan's most....Dylan album? I do not like Idiot Wind, nor Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. Really kind of a mixed bag of stuff that is encapsulated by his best work. Shelter From the Storm is also excellent but buried under all the other tracks that I don't care for. I cannot properly articulate why I am so split on Dylan's work, but it's hard to deny the greatest in Blood on the Tracks.
When love affairs go wrong, they go spectacularly wrong, and when it’s an artist who has fucked up and/or gotten his heart broken, it’s the fans who reap the benefits. So what’s going on here in this at once disjointed and unified narrative? Well, it all started when he got nervous as she bent down to tie his shoes, and then he realized she was his twin...he swears he can change...people don’t know how to act around him...he’s only known careless love...he’s hoping that the cliché is true, that the darkest hour is right before the dawn...but he’s face down, just like the Jack of Hearts...he gets a chill whenever he thinks about how she left that night...he remembers how she gave him shelter from the storm...he’s seen people disappear like smoke. He’s saying goodbye to more than just her, and the regret stabs through almost every song. If you've not heard the New York Sessions bootleg, do yourself a favor!
Solid BD in a typical BD style
Really enjoyed this
I’ve been waiting for a Dylan album. How exciting! I get that he’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I don’t drink tea often so screw that…Bob is my pot of coffee. It’s remarkable that Blood On The Tracks was his 15th album from 1962-1975 and he still brought the goods. This isn’t my favorite album of his, not close, but we’ll cover the favorites later. Let’s get the turd burger out of the way first: If You See Her, Say Hello is a miss. It leaves Bob’s voice isolated and sounding strained. Skip please. There are four 5+ minute songs on this album and not one of them feels arduous. Bob could have extended them and I’d still be engaged by the colorful, lyrical landscape he paints. The longest track, Lily, Rosemary And The Jack Of Hearts, is so much fun. I feel like I’m standing in the cabaret observing it all go down. Tangled Up In Blue is a classic. I love Simple Twist Twist Of Fate, especially all the “-ate” rhyming words emphasized before each “twist of fate.” Listening to Idiot Wind was a new experience reading the lyrics along with the song. Bob is a Nobel Laureate with words and his sharp tongue is on full display here. The new part were my thoughts relating this song with my oldest child’s sharp, witty tongue. I remember from one of Bob’s biographies that he was a voracious reader, in addition to listener of music. My oldest is also a voracious reader and I’m certain that provides the lingual command to be sharp witted and biting. I was left with the thought that my oldest could someday write something just as powerful. I can’t wait to experience it.
I think this is my favorite bob dylan album
Loved it.
Big girl now is a favourite of mine. Unpopular opinion I know, but it’s background music for me.
Some great Dylan tunes on this one. He shows growth and maturity, as always. Tangled Up In Blue is a favorite here.
Bra. Men ikkje hans beste, som det av og til blir sagt.
Easy listen. Would listen again.
Un clásico de la época. Me encanta Tangled Up in Blue.
Enjoyed this one though a lot of just ok tracks good lyrics, musically just average.
Solid as always.
4.5
Flawless. Such a great collection of lyrics and melodies
Nice Bob songs, some good discoveries here.
Haven't listened to it in a while but I remember it being pretty solid
Bob did good
Daaamn... Bob Dylan har swag på denna skiva..
p347, 1975. 4.5 stars He's always had a bloody awful voice, sounds like he's straining with bad haemorrhoids when he tries for any long notes. Set against that, he writes some cracking tunes and is a fabulous wordsmith. This sounds like something that Mark Knopfler should have written, and sung better. Half a star deducted for the voice.
This guy does a hell of a Dylon impression.
I agree with all the reviews for this album, positive and negative, and those in languages I can't read.
Polowy list nawet nie ma, a zapas Dylanowych krazkow topnieje w oczach, tym razem padlo na Blood on The Tracks z 75, bedacy kombekowym albumem w dyskografii Dylanowej, wypalonej po latach 60, a co stanowilo tlo do tego powrotu, oczywiscie kreatywny zryw tworczy polaczony z rozwodem, wiec nic dziwnego, ze praktycznie caly 50 minutowy krazek jest poswiecony wzlotom i upadkom milosnym podanych w typowo Dylanowej formie, wiec piosenkach ktore maja czesto gesto ponad dziesiec zwrotek i opowiadaja historie zycia lub historie danej sytuacji, moze wlasnie przez ten motyw przewodni plyty nie potrafilem sie jakos nigdy go niej przekonac patrzac na liczbe wyswietlen z last fma jest on zdecydowanie w dole stawki, bo muzycznie jest to typowy bardowy folk rock, z bogatym brzmieniem gitarowo bonjowo harmonijkowym, rzuca sie w uszy wykorzystanie trzech roznych klawiszy, bo zarowno pianina, hamondowych organow i standardowego kejborda, ciekawe jest tez, ze album zostal nagrany praktycznie jeszcze raz juz po skompletowaniu materialu do wydania i z tych dodatkowych Minneapolisowych nagran do tloczenia dostalo sie piec nowych utworow, wiec polowa krazka, no i hajlajtowe utwory rowniez byly dogrywane w tych sesjach, bo albumowe wersje tangled in the blue i idiot wind pochodza z wlasnie z tamtego dogrywania, do tych kawalkow dodam na plejke jeszcze lily, rosemary and the jack of hearts, ktory reprezentuje moj ulubiony typ tworczosci Dylanowej, wiec opowiesci plaszcza i szpady w klimacie hamerykanskiego zachodu, do tego dochodzi paleta przerysowanych postaci i wartka akcja i jej zwroty trzymaja w napieciu sluchacza przez prawie 9 minut, wiec epicka ballada jak sie patrzy, po tym juz troche bardziej rozumiem dlaczego niektorzy wymieniaja blood on the tracks jako magnum opus dylanowe, ale jednak az tak bardzo mnie ta plyta do siebie nie przekonala zebym musial rowniez dolaczyc do tego grona
One of the most listenable Dylan records to me with several tracks I really enjoy. Tangled, Jack of Hearts, Simple Twist, Shelter,… I would go so far as to claim I’m a Dylan fan, but I do like this record.
3.7
The production is shockingly massive, and really helps to make Dylan sound as empty as he must have felt at the time. That’s a good and a notsogood thing, since I also feel like this makes the songs here not have the same punch as most of his 60’s classics. It’s very good, but I don’t think it’ll ever be my favorite album, either of Dylan’s or for breakups on the whole. Still gotta be a B+, maybe an A- on another day.
Good album, good lyrics, enjoyed this Dylan album
Grew up with this. So I'm used to his lilt
It's Bob Dylan. Which, to me, means that the real star of this album is the lyrics--to absolutely no one's surprise. I listened to this album once without focusing on the lyrics. Then listened again with an ear for the narratives. And suddenly--incredible. Witchcraft! I love Bob Dylan because I'm a lyrics-driven listener but I don't think this is the very finest album Dylan ever produced. That said...it's still an album from one of the greatest songwriters of all time--arguably THE best--so it's still a 4/5 for me. Fave track: Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
Fav tracks: - Tangled up in Blue - Simple Twist of Fate - You're a Big Girl Now - Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts - Shelter from the Storm Least fav: - Idiot Wind
I guess i've mellowed to Bob Dylan. Was much better then i was expecting.
Bob Dylan can just flat out tell a story in his music. I get the people who just "don't like his voice" but I find it interesting and even if it was the worst ever, the stories are still just flat out stellar.
4.2
pretty good, never liked dylan's voice
My “first” Dylan album, and still my favourite. There are, of course, better individual tracks throughout his career, but as a group, these work best. Something different about the sound that is not captured elsewhere
I mean it’s Bob Dylan you can’t really go wrong with it can you?. Such a skilled guitarist and lyrics are just poetry. Just shows again that if you want to create good music just keep it simple.
I'm a bigger fan of Dylan's earlier works but this one is still really great. The production is stellar and it has some fantastic storytelling.
People love the lyrics more than music I guess. When not reading the lyrics, music is alright to me.
As a kid, Dylan's voice grated on my nerves. As adult, I figured if I could get used to Tom Perry's and Stevie Nick's voices, I could get used to Bob Dylan's. I was right and now able to concentrate on the music and not the delivery, I really enjoyed this album. Added.
I was already a fan of Tangled Up in Blue and Shelter from the Storm, but I liked this album even more than I thought I would. New songs I like include Simple Twist of Fate.
Very typical Dylan in both melody and lyrics. Enjoyable and moderately easy to listen to, I’m finding that I enjoy Dylan a lot more than it though I would
There's a lot about Bob Dylan that shouldn't work for me, but for some reason I've always really enjoyed his music. Not my favorite of his albums - still gets 4 stars.
Bob Dylan is the prototype Singer-Songwriter that so many here in the US have tried to emulate in their own ways across multiple genres since he burst on to the scene in the 1960's. While I'm largely unfamiliar songs that aren't apart of his "Greatest Hits", this album opens with Tangled Up In Blue, a very well known song that is absolutely terrific, and I think sums up everything Bob is about (musically at least) in a nice little package. Whether or not this album is actually about the disintegration of Bob's marriage at the time, you feel a lot of hurt in all of the songs. It's a certainly a heartfelt goodbye to something, and for that, this album absolutely deserves to be on the list.
Better than the last album I listened to.
Enjoyable album. Really have never listened to full album Dylan before. Felt it got a little repetitive at the end and the songs were a bit long. 4/5
Pretty good i think
Nice album, good variety. Sounds like Jimmy Fallon singing....
Great album. Dylan is one of a kind.
Pretty good; liked the narrative aspects of his songs, guess that's why he received a Nobel Prize. Distinctive voice, simple acoustics
This is not really the kind of album you can just sit back and enjoy. You can with a couple of the songs, but for the most part it takes a little bit of effort on the part of the listener. Some great stuff on this album (Tangled up in Blue is one of the best songs ever written) but it can be exhausting so unless you're in the mood for that it can be hard to enjoy.
sento molto l'influenza folk nella musica, che aiuta a vivacizzare l'album le cui tematiche sono tutt'altro che allegre
A classic! I have definitely heard this album / all these songs before. Dylan as a singer/performer is not my personal favorite, but I think he's an excellent songwriter and I can appreciate all these songs.
7.5
Introspective Dylan is not my favorite Dylan, but this is still some incredible music. Best track: Shelter from the Storm
Great
-"Tangled Up In Blue" is actually quite catchy -"Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts" was pretty good too. Story sounded pretty cool. -Generally better and more upbeat than the other Dylan albums I have heard
Pretty great
Goooood stuff
Pleasantly surprised. I'm always a bit wary of Dylan and his earnestness. Already knew Tangled Up In Blue, probably my favourite BD song, but bafflingly had never given the whole record a chance. Sonically, it's archetypal 70s folk rock; lyrically rich and it's understandable why it's held in such regard. Have moved this record into semi-regular rotation, having barely touched it since buying it 20 years ago.
Welcome back Bobby! Another classic smattering of nonsense that somehow sounds fantastic and nostalgic all at the same time. My favorite on the album was a simple twist of fate because it had all my favorite Dylanisms. Wild nonsense lyrics with wailing endings. Just reminded me of my impressions of Dylan. Overall, this was a great album. Cool album cover too, looks like a comic strip or something.
The acclaim surrounding this album is a bit intimidating. Not only is it regarded as one of Dylan's best, but as one of the best ever. I've always preferred '60s Dylan to anything newer; the true folk style suits him best. But this album has enough of that to keep me satisfied. There are few that didn't hit for me, but I was surprised by how many tracks I did enjoy. Especially "Shelter from the Storm," which I knew before hearing this. Plenty of vintage Bob Dylan on here. I totally understand the acclaim, even if it's not quite a five-star classic for me. I'd give that rating to a couple older Dylan albums. Favorite tracks: Shelter from the Storm, Simple Twist of Fate, Idiot Wind, Meet Me in the Morning. Album art: Definitely iconic in the sense that I recognize it immediately, but it's not all that special. Blurry picture, photo or painting I can't tell. The sidebar and text is nice but again, nothing special. Pretty unassuming overall. 4.5/5
It’s a shame he’s a creep
Quite good, a bit melancholic
Веселые, светлые, гитарные пляжные песни, интересные гармонии, яркая солнечная обработка, мало вокала, много музыки
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Tangled up in blue, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of hearts
Has never been my goto BD album - one really needs to be in a good mood to tolerate the singing - this appears much less of a problem with his 60s albums. But of course Blood on the Tracks is solid and contains quite a few classic Bob Dylan songs. And it is not possible to give an album with Tangled Blue and Idiot Wind anything less than 4 stars, so 4 stars it is.
If ever there were such a thing as a pre-breakup album this is it's quintessence this smooth return to folk aphorisms is studded with punchy tongue in cheek lines and outright insults. Favorite tracks: Blood on the tracks Idiot wind Least favorite tracks: You're a big girl now
bob dylan has always been pretty hit or miss for me, and this record is no exception. except in this case the hits greatly out way the misses, tangled up in blue and shelter from the storm are now some of my favorite dylan songs. this record is my favorite dylan album, and my favorite folk album as a whole.
its ok
So a very famous man (a guy I knew only as ‘This is Anfield’) once told me that you have to GET Bobby D. I’ve listened to Highway 61 and the Best Of to try to GET Bobby D and I was like “well nah”. Listened to this and I WISH someone had given me this as an intro to Dylan! Brilliant album, great music, great lyrics and his voice isn’t so nasally you start thinking of midges in your lug! Brilliant! Have I finally GOT Bobby D? Time will tell, but this is a great place to start! Loved it!
Not a Bob Dylan fan, but this is good. 4/5 Standouts: Tangled Up in Blue, Shelter From the Storm, Simple Twist of Fate,
A near flawless album, this is Dylan stripped back, raw and intimate. Tangled up in Blue, Idiot Wind and shelter from the storm among the highlights, but I must admit I don’t love this album the way I do bringing it all back home or Highway 61. Just misses out on 5 stars
A classic.
Objectively a 5/5, personally a 4/5.
always a nice time listening to bob dylan. if you see her, say hello made me really sad
Classic.
Good One
Yeah really enjoyed this, great Bob Dylan album to start
Classic. Felt like crying (in a beautiful way)
Beautiful stories, easy listening
Oh hey! Some Bob Dylan. Maybe I’ll listen to this and reeeeally like Bob Dylan now! This is my way in. Idiot wind, that’s a great track. I know that one. Okay let’s go!! Oh yeah, it’s Bob Dylan...right, yeah, no, I’ve actually listened to him before. Quite a lot actually. Yeah it’s pretty good isn’t it. Nice one. I’ll probably just leave it there though.
Pure poetry from one of the greats. Top tier Dylan, and good musicianship.
Folk rock foundation
Hay frases que permanecen y un ambiente que reina el disco que te pone los pelos de punta. Se nota que hay motivos recurrentes y una línea clara; alguna canción despunta (para mal) pero da la sensación de escuchar algo sólido y personal.
A fantastic folk album that I respect more than I enjoy
Just fantastic.
While there are so many Dylan songs I don’t know, I thought I knew Dylan's capabilities. Simple Twist of Fate showed me a part of Dylan I didn’t know. He actually has a vocal range! Shocking. Tangled up in Blue is fairly upbeat especially considering it's a sad song. As I was listening I was thinking how cool Lily Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts was. All the folk types venture to the Country and this is an excellent country song. When I went to Spotify to get the name of the song, I noticed that, of songs on that album, it has the fewest number of listens on Spotify. This is a very good album of Dylan tunes and one I didn't know. He just turned 80 so there may not be too many more to come. At least I still have many more to discover.
What if Dylan’s voice wasn’t so bad? He would be a god.
can't go wrong with a bit of Bob
Hadn’t listened to a Dylan album in full for years. Some great songs although you have to be in the right mood for the voice!
Musically this album is pretty average (on the Bob Dylan scale), but the lyrics are amazing. Tangled Up in Blue is a master class in storytelling. This is one of his finer efforts.
Already own this. Its a strong album although I think it does dip toward the middle/end.
More Bob? Can't go wrong I guess
Está guapo, sonido bastante clásico de Dylan para mí que estoy poco iniciado en él.
Really like Bob Dylan and this album, of
pour moi bobby j'aime mais on pourrait écouter tous ses album on serait toujours dans les memes environ
Never been a huge fan of Dylan's voice, but this one wasn't bad. My favorite song was Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, which is also the longest track on the album. I enjoyed this album one a lot.
Nice one, early Dylan has no waste
bob dylan has a very unique sounding voice. besides that he has compelling lyrics and guitar compositions. I enjoyed this record. probably a 3.7/5 for me
Top 3 1. Tangled Up In Blue 2. Meet Me In The Morning 3. If You See Her, Say Hello
Wait! I get the love for him on this one!
I have not been a Bob Dylan fan but I have slowly warmed to him over the years. This album certainly pushes me toward fandom. It is easy to hear all the influence he has had on subsequent musicians listening to these songs. The lyrics are so interesting, and make me want to listen again. I was driving down to Rochester to get my vaccine for part of the album, and it's the perfect soundtrack for driving through the vast landscape.
Très bon !
Musically very entertaining, lyrically interesting to listen to, one that you could listen to without really paying attention, but you shouldn't
Classic Bob Dylan style, not my most favorite, but really good.
Pretty good, will listen again perhaps.
I think my memory of Bob Dylan's voice was all spoofs of Bob Dylan's voice. This is better than I thought it was going to be.
Great album! Still have to finish but I enjoyed it.
"If you see her say hello" has been a long time favorite. Overall nice album.
Lovely, bluesy and crisp. Easy listening for a drive or work. Daytime, sunny day listening.
Good bob album, I enjoyed it!
I guess now is the time to confess that I don't really get Bob Dylan. I like several of his songs, I've seen him live, I've listened to multiple albums multiple times; it's not as if I hate Bob Dylan. I just don't really get him. Like, why do people revere him so much? He's good, but I've never understood why he's great. That being said, this was probably the most I've ever liked a Bob Dylan album. It's got a nice feel to it, and it's consistent without being too samey. Starts out very strong with Tangled Up in Blue, and finishes strong as well. His poetry is great throughout and is highly accessible as well. Maybe I just hate harmonicas? 4/5
Never really listened to a Dylan album, though I heard lots of his songs throughout the years. It grew on me as the album played, will listen again.
Wise words, pretty songs.
ok cool
Great album
I love dylan, this one is a bit overated though.
Kind of enjoyed it
Bobbing my Dylan to this rn
Ugh, fine, I will listen to Dylan. But you can't make me like it. And I really didn't. Yes, he is a fantastic song writer... but so is Dolly, so is Willie, so was Prince. They all can sing. Paul Simon can sing and write. Ed Sherran. Madonna! The Backstreet Boys wrote some of their songs!!! In all seriousness, he's a damn good writer, but his voice sucks.
I like it, but I hate how bob dylan sings
Another Dylan, oh well
Would it be crazy to call this the weakest Bob Dylan album I've heard so far? I feel like I could immediately get into the other four I've heard in a way that I just can't here. Maybe it's how different his voice is compared to how it did on his earlier stuff but something just feels off with this one. a few songs in the middle were okay, I guess.
- beautiful album - harmonica goes off
Solid songwriting and tunes. I still can't stand his voice.
In Bob Dylan scale this sounds better than other albums doing this 1001 album projects. Still solid 3 star stuff without possibility get higher rating. Many Dylan albums has some vibw/sound that bothers me but this one doesn't hit that irritating nerve. Maybe the irritating factor is folk.
I have not had a drink from the Bob Dylan Kool Aid pitcher so I’m always leary of listening to most of his music. I went to a concert of his and only stayed for the opening band (The Alarm) because we all agreed he was just mumbling through his set. This album is different to me. He sounds more melodic and there is more emotion in his voice. Even the music is more layered. Yes, I am told it is about his lyrics……but that does not always cut it. Bottom line, I like this album.
"Tangled Up in Blue" seems to present new ground for Bob to cover, as it combines his long-winded lyrical sensibilities with uptempo pop rock instrumentation and a catchy hook. But the rest of the record is ho-hum folk music that does not reel me in at all.
This was a decent Dylan album, but certainly not his best. The songwriting is great, as per usual. Liked Songs Added: Tangled Up In Blue Meet Me In The Morning Shelter From The Storm
I listened to "Blonde On Blonde" last week, and I like this one a lot better. The songs are softer and more acoustic, the lyrical stories are richer and more detailed, and the harmonica actually fits in without being excessive.
muy bonito pero no eslo que prefiero de dylan
singer/songwriter, 1975 -> 3
This album is such a mixed bag for me. “Tangled up in blue” and “simple twist of fate” are brilliant and I’ve loved them for years. “Idiot Wind” and “Jack of hearts” are repetitive droning garbage. The rest just kinda fades into the background.
Overall, the song had a pretty good atmosphere.
pretty good, pretty calm, would've given it a 3.5 if i could've
I didn't finish. I know Dylan is a legend, but I just couldn't make it through this
Not a big Dylan fan, but I think it's going to grow on me when I give it more listens. 3,5 now on first listen, might change later.
Liked it more than I expected…probably would’ve liked it even more if literally anyone else was in charge of singing.
Wasn't feeling it. 2.5/5
I liked it a bit but, it gets repetitive.
's alright
I don't think I'm ever going to fully appreciate Bob Dylan, But this was fine, every song was probably a bit too similar for me though. A solid 3*
Consistent. Good poetry and solid music.
3-/5
This was...fine? I think I expected more from Dylan as a whole since I have never heard one of his albums in its entirety before, and considering how lauded he is generally. There were certainly a couple of hits here, but I fear his singing style still irks me the same way it has since I was a little kid. Maybe a different album would be a little more my speed, as I assume this isn't the only one I'll encounter on this list. Sorry, but I'm not Dylan-pilled quite yet... Favorite tracks: Tangled up in Blue, Idiot Wind, Shelter from the Storm
fav dog is lily, rosemary and jack of hearts
BANJO MOMENT <333 Not my usual listening but it reminds me of Dad and friends from high school Love the banjo and harmonica moments
Bob Dylan is a song writing genius, but I cannot stand his voice
This is a pretty good album, even not understanding the full history of Bob Dylan. I wasn't able to fully appreciate it on first listen, and I don't have a great interest in revisiting it right now, but in the future I anticipate myself really digging into this and loving it. Bob Dylan does not fit a lot of moods for me right now, which makes it hard for me to jump at the bit to listen to him.
First Dylan record from the generator, and one im somewhat disappointed with. You see, there's 2 different versions of this album, the released album in 74'/the one in the book, and the original New York Sessions version. And sorry to say, but the original recordings tower over the re-recordings immensely. I dunno the new vibe just doesn't work with most of these songs for me. The only ones I can think of that do work are Tangled Up In Blue and Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. The others feel like they were watered down and don't carry any of the same weight as they did before, If You See Her, Say Hello especially. For the unchanged songs, those are good, except for the fact they're sped up a little. Did they think slower songs were too much for people to handle? In terms of the songs on their own merits, most are pretty good, even if I dislike how most sound. The only one I'm low on is Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts as that one drags on too long, this goes for both versions. Overall, the album could've been stellar if they hadn't fucked with it. Its definitely not awful, but it should have been left as it was. Im in the minority on this, a lot of people prefer the finished/released version, more power to them. Id recommend listening to both versions and seeing which you prefer, I know which one I do. Highlights-Tangled Up in Blue, Simple Twist of Fate, Shelter from The Storm, and Buckets of Rain.
It’s not bad. I just have trouble getting into Bob Dylan. I know tons of people love him. I just struggle with him. I can’t really put my finger on what it is that I don’t like.
Good stuff.
It was pretty good, I liked his lyrics allot and it felt relatable, some of the lyrics touched me, but some of it was pretty forgettable, and idk how I feel about Dylan’s vocal performance, it was good but not my thing, I appreciate this music but prolly something I’d skip if I put it in a playlist
it's bob
Taas Dylanin levy. Kyllä ymmärrän, miksi on listalle päässyt. Vahvuus on tekstissä, muuten nyt ei mitenkään ihmeellistä.
Man loves that damn harmonica
Vocals and everything were good. Spaced off a bit during this day, so don’t remember much, but still good.

I love the story of Bob Dylan. It is undeniably true that he is a great songwriter. Here his lyrics shine throughout as well. There are some great songs on the album along with some hiccups. The Harmonica caught me off-guard although that probably shouldn't come as a surprise. If we try to identify the album's central theme, it has to be heartbreak and the fallout of a relationship. You can even feel this in Dylan's vocal delivery on several tracks. I am keen to explore more of Bob Dylan's discography and in time I can see some of these songs growing on me with time. I liked "Tangled up in Blue" and "If You See Her, Say Hello".
Perfectly fine.
I like the music his voice is just so moany its jarring
Good Dylan, but not great Dylan in my opinion.
All I can say is enough with Dylan. Hes fine but not all that enjoyable.
Bueno pero casi no son mis gustos, Bob Dylan tiene más albumes buenos
난 왜 밥 딜런이 흑인인 줄 알고 있었지. 밥 말리랑 헷갈린 듯.
5/10 My thoughts on this album might get me disowned - Bob Dylan is one of my mom's favorite musicians. But to speak my truth: I appreciate the lyrics; Dylan is undoubtedly a singer-songwriter, with a HEAVY emphasis on the "songwriter." his singing is, uh. Not my kind of thing. But I don't hate it, and I think it works in the context of the album/music. I think my main issue is that every song is a solid 3-4 minutes too long, and musically the songs don't really go anywhere. They kind of stay at the same tempo, with no real climaxes or interesting uses of instruments. The album centers Bob Dylan, which makes sense, but again, not a fan of his voice. I'll chalk this album up as being "not for me." Can't wait for the next 576 Bob Dylan albums on this list, for which I'll probably have the same critique...
I thought this album was fun, full of good storytelling, lyricism, and Bob Dylan's grating voice. An amazing song writer but not a very good singer. Worth a listen for the lyrics, 3 stars.
It's just another onslaught of verses by Bob.
Robert Zimmerman has gave us a good piece of art, and there is a lot to say about the album but I can't really say more than I enjoyed it quite a lot after only one spin. "Tangled up in Blue" is a great start and I actually enjoy the length of the songs, which is not that prevalent in modern country/singer song writer songs.
I respect bib dylan but really this isn’t my thing
I don't really like Bob Dylan. I find his music quite boring, and I struggle to find any meaning in it. That said, this was decent.
time to go listen to "Bob" by Weird Al Yankovic again...
Not Bob's best showing if you ask me, but it has a couple nice tracks on it. Faves: Tangled up in Blue, Simple Twist of Fate
Good album from Bob, saved one song.
It's good, but the sound is so dated at this point. "Tangled Up in Blue" is a fantastic song!
Not a big Dylan fan.
First album! I don't listen to much bob Dylan so most of these songs were new to me. Idiot wind and if you see her say hello were my favorite new to me songs from this album
Ikke det bedste Dylan, men godt.
chill
never got bob but it's not bad
50/50 мне не оч понравилось
I mean, it's Bob Dylan. He's hit or miss on even on the best days. 3/5
I cannot believe this dude said this album wasn't about his divorce I liked the instrumentals, the bass, the harmonica. It was pleasant except for the parts where he was violently angry about not his ex apparently.
Decent album with a few decent tracks
I'm not used to western style music, especially southern, but it's really refreshing, almost like story telling. He has a very nice tone and pitch, it's genuinely like holding a conversation but while singing about other people's stories, wether it's little boys or adult men. The melodies and pattern are repetitive, but each song has its own little style, and you don't easily get sick of it, because each verse is different with perspective and the story progresses throughout the songs. I'd give it for the first 5 songs Autumn and the rest Summer. Overall, I'd give it a solid 6/10!!
This is the new genre to me I like it give a western folk vibe. This album is quite good
