Reviews (page 14 of 14)

Well it was definitely the beatles.

Hmm this one started strong but didn't like it as much as the Elton John one, okay but some of the songs as a bit sameish. Probably wouldn't listen again.

I övrigt rätt ordinär 60-talspop. Men ingen fantastiska låtar. Hur kom avslutande Run for your life med?

Just when I thought that most of the album sucked, Run For Your Life came on. 🤢 The only songs I would save are Norwegian Wood and In My Life. The rest is buns

not my style

folk i wasn’t really into it

Never been a beetles fan, was ok. Harmonies don’t do it for me. Tunes are meh

One hook, one idea, next song. Blues without soul or pain or anger … Rubber Soul is the perfect name for this album. Having said that - this is decidedly better than the White Album and thankfully … doesn’t have any novelty songs. A few decent tracks as well High 2/5 - my favourite Beatles album so far Drive My Car - catchy and kitsch , “beep beep m beep beep yeah” (2/5) Norwegian Wood - pleasant, short, lyrically basic, nice sitar (3/5) You won’t see me - forgettable, paint by numbers rock (2/5) Nowhere Man - similar to the previous track, to me it sounds basic (2/5) Think for Yourself - Swinging 60s, like a beach boys song that didn’t make the cut (2/5) The Word - hate the production, like the song. That walking bass line is great. Would love to hear the kinks cover this (3/5) Michelle - more experimental and interesting, even if I don’t like the chorus … Paul threatening to write a good one here 3/5 What Goes On - country blues, lyrics of its time RE woman. I do feel for John L a bit (2/5) Girl - objectively bad lyrics, harmonies are good (2/5) I’m Looking Through You - simple but classic, better (3/5) In My Life - even I can admit this is a great song (4/5) Wait - catchy, not memorable (2/5) If I Needed Someone - trippy, pyschadelic … I like this. Production is too clean. But this is a strong song (4/5) Run for Your Life - a song about murdering a girlfriend if she ever cheats somehow finds a way to be dull (2/5)

Looking through is a good song. It is good, but like, is it top 10 albums ever good? idk i enjoyed most of it though, but other than the looking through, it felt like all the other songs kinda blended together?

Mid album. I was really bored listening to this. There was really so much creativity happening during this time it’s hard to see how the Beatles were revolutionary. Maybe this is when they were starting to shed their happy little British school boy rock image? I’ll watch the documentary on Apple Music and see what the hype is about. Right now it’s like a 2-5. Holy shit that last song is horrible

A couple memorable songs but mostly forgettable

Another Beatles album, I’ll give it 2 as I feel generous today!

One of the best records

Although I don't detest this era of the Beatles the way I do later albums, I would still rather be listening to the Monkees or, frankly, The Beach Boys. Has a band ever used more annoying repetition?

Kinda feels like it just keeps going on. Nothing really stands out Some odd mixing choices with instruments only being in one ear and it kinda is a big fatiguing after awhile 14 songs in a half hour long album makes songs feel forgettable

The Beatles really exemplify the fact that just because you’re the first to do something doesn’t make you the best.

I'm just not a Beatles guy. I understand their place in music history, I don't understand why they were as popular as they were. This is better than their earlier super bubblegum pop drivel, but having some better lyrics don't mean it's an amazing album. It's got a couple of decent tunes on it, but it's a big meh for me.

I know this will be heresy to some - I really just don't like this. At all.

i didn’t mind that 60’s sound to a couple of these songs but overall i thought it was very uninteresting

Starting as a strong 3, but the song 'Girl' made me so uncomfortable. The sniffing is way too strong. Smellivision is not a thing and my ear feels violated. Had I not listened to that song, this album would stay at a 3, but...I detest intense sniffing and I like the Beatles. This album was just not it.

'Hey girl if you leave me ill kill you for real im not kidding' This was my first Beatles album and I dont have plans to listen to it again recreationally

The Beatles just don't do it for me

not the beatles i would reach for. almost a 1

drive my car- 4 norwegian wood- 4 you wont see me- 4 nowhere man- 4 think for yourself- 4 the word- 3 michelle- 3 what goes on- 3 girl- 3 im looking through you- 3 in my life- 4 wait- 3 if i needed someone- 3 run for your life- 3 my whole life the beatles have felt like some inside joke i wasnt in on. everyone loves them but whenever i listen to them, i have to fight off falling asleep. is the joke on me or everyone else? it doesnt matter, this album was boring as fuck

WTF this Beatles album is listed here? There are much much beter ones like Revolver, White album, St Pepper, Abbey Road, etc.

Crucify me if you want, and I understand this was revolutionary in its time, but let's be honest, this is just bland hippie music

Middle of the road Beatles album, nothing too special from it compared to their white album or abbey road.

This really is the most nothing Beatles record. Minus points for having a song that glorifies cheating.

My 3rd Beatles album, not my favourite so far tbh.

Not a fan but some songs built to last.

Unremarkable. 2/5

I don't hate the Beatles. I don't LIKE them, but I don't hate them, either. Yeah this ain't my thing. Sorry, small army of furiously masturbating pretentious music "connoisseurs".

Typ chill, men inget speciellt. Blev lite tråkigt mot slutet

Yet another album from the most overrated band in history. BUT , this one is actually ok. It falls between their early lightweight pop and their later drug fuelled self indulgent nonsense.

Favourite song: Drive my car Least favourite: Run for your life Very 60s vibes, La La La in the background. Classic movie soundtrack.

I'm still as disinterested in this album as I was the first time I heard it. It's listenable sure, and has some nice songs, but on the whole I don't really care for it or looked forward to listening to it. Just, fine but the type of album that I don't really care for.

Last track was a bit violence against womeny. Ruined the whole experience

The Beatles is my hot-take band. I don't get it. Never have, never will.

you can call me basic all you want but michelle is the best song on this album 2,5/5 🪳

In my head I remembered 'Rubber Soul' as one of the Beatles' better albums, but upon listening to it for the first time in many years, I can count on one hand the songs on this album that I'd particularly care to ever hear again and have a finger left over. A lot of the songs on this album are the annoying kind of early Beatles pop/rock sound that I just don't really care for. "Norwegian Wood", "Michelle", "Girl" (borderline), and "In My Life" are the only keepers.

The band made a lot of big hits and some album can easily be forgotten…. Which is the case of that album !

The transition album from the bubblegum Beatles to the drugged out Beatles. Cheap music, tacky lyrics, and although John hadn't reached his full sanctimony just yet, the hints of domestic abuse are already present.

**An ok album

Mix of french chanson and blues.

1st track. Catchy, cute. Nothing special. I mean, I feel like at the time this was really great. But this isn’t all that to me, but ok 24, what do I know.

I respect the Beatles, but this album wasn't particularly for me. The tracking is too simplistic for me but I'm probably very biased to modern techniques/methods. Probably was great for 1965 but there's a reason their latter albums are more renowned for them.

I was ready to give this a good score for once, thinking maybe I had found my Beatles album. I like so many of these songs! I willingly downloaded Michelle in the past! Then the song "Run For Your Life" comes on as one of the purest lyrical distillations of a song we hear *all the time* on this list ... I'm done with hearing this song. I'm done with men recording songs about killing women out of jealousy. Grow up.

Felt very meh. Listened through it, nothing caught my eye, and I didn't even realise the album was over until I heard songs from obviously different artists.

Not for me.

Song: norwegian wood i like this song because it is like calm and smooth Song: in my life i love this song because it reminds me of summer kind of because we would play this song in the summertime and i love listening to it Song:run for your life i dont really like this song because its weird but i would kind of recommend these songs

Have you ever wanted to listen to music that sounds old but still relatively new and cool? Then you should listen to this album. In my opinion, I personally like this album a little bit. The first reason why I don't like it is because it kind of give me the old song vibes and I personally don't like that type of music, I like the more popular nowadays music. Another reason why I don't like this song is because I don't like the instrument that are used in the song. I would recommend this album to someone else because even though I don't really like it, I feel like someone else would really like it, especially if they are older and have been listening to "The Beatles" for a long time now. They would probably know this and also really like the album as well. I give it a 2 stars out of 5.

it sounds ok i guess but the vocies sounded a littlee better then the music but it was kinda slow also so i didnt really like these somgs but the last song was alilltle better

Not huge on the Beatles, annoying sound to them.

It's a short LP. Songs were quick. It seemed dated A/F. Some of the guitar "solo's" very understated. Folk rock with layer vocals...influenced by the BYRDS? Safe and predictable. I was hoping for more. By the way, Ringo is a great drummer!

I'm just not a Beatles fan. They were clearly very influential and prolific during their time, and they inspired many subsequent artists, but they're just a boy band singing about peace and love when they were wailing on the women in their lives at home. Their songs are difficult to take seriously knowing who is behind them. But some of the songs are bops I guess

Not the best Beatles but Norwegian wood still slaps

Relentless cowbell on drive my car put me in a bad mood straight away, had enough of these fellas.

Finally… a beatles album that didnt make me want to kill myself. Still shit though. Gets by on its familiarity with a few songs I think. Just not for me

What goes on reminds me of the country calendar theme. I liked this album but not enough to save it - this is my new rating system so if I wouldn’t save more than 2 songs, it gets a 2 - which feels criminal for the Beatles 😅

Meh. Never really been a fan of the Beatles outside of a few songs. This album is nothing spectacular. Very mellow, kinda put me to sleep.

It has a certain appeal as like a background beach rock album, but it just doesn't feel like it has any great individual songs, though the overall theme of the album felt very synergistic.

Run For Your Life was nice. Didn't care about the rest and honestly forgot why I hated them

Meh. Don't like the haircuts either.

not my favorite beatles album

zuerst einmal: beatles :-/ .. not my favourite. aber einige tracks sind musikalisch gesehen schon vielschichtig und weniger der typische einfache 60er-song.

I really enjoyed revolver and sgt pepper, this seems incredibly average however.

Definitely one of their worse albums.

Bouncy bouncy, not such a good time.

Not the Beatles again. As usual a few great songs but lots of filler. Still believe their reputation precedes them. Hated Michelle when I was eight still do. Generally find that if it was a McCartney written song I don't like it. Not sure what the honk "What Goes On" was all about. Despite their contribution to the development of modern popular music The Beatles haven't aged well.

J'en connais 3 morceaux : Drive My Car Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) Michelle Mais aucun autre m'a marqué. => 2/5

In My Life the highlight but I've heard several better covers and arrangements. Beatles are good at setting up the shot for someone else to win.

Almost 60 years later, it's definitely more disconnected than most albums are today, especially critically acclaimed ones. Innovation is harder to appreciate when it was so well received that doesn't sound fresh, it just sounds normal. There's also a matter that I'm sure I will come across in future albums by members of the Beatles, among others. The Word feels painfully naive now. There's a certain politics of the era that sounds insultingly smug yet proven incredibly wrong over time. I don't know how to treat that, but it does make me roll my eyes. It's at least more sincere than stuff like Imagine, but it's still out of place in 2024. Also, screw the Beatles' label, what's the actual album? Is one of them supposed to be the "canon" track listing, in this age where obtaining every song is easier than knowing what album it was on? In the end, as a Beatles album, I'd take Let It Be, Sgt. Pepper, and even Help! over this, but as always, the floor is high with these guys.

A first here and there Growing as musicians blah Apathy takes me

At this point I shouldn’t be surprised that there are so many of their albums on this list. The first track on this album really gives an indication of what’s waiting for you, that being said, can’t believe how some people try to argue that it’s some genius lyrics that others fail to understand, I guess I can’t just comprehend the complexity of “beep beep”

Shallow

Boy band version of the Beatles

s'alright

This album I have enjoyed over the years. It’s been a while since I listened to it. I particularly love Norwegian Wood plus some others BUT with a closer listen with different experiences since the last time I listened. Run for your Life is very problematic.

Hot take: The Beatles are overrated. I’m not saying they aren’t talented musicians, clearly they are, but I don’t believe it’s them at the top followed by every other band. I find this album in particular to be kind of boring. I can’t say it’s repetitive, there are clearly some stylistic changes between songs but overall it’s just an okay listen. Nothing wrong with that, but if I wasn’t playing these albums while working I probably would have skipped through a few tracks and moved on to something more fun.

At first glance I said, "Ugh, really -- I actually don't want to listen to that". We will see how it goes today. Update: Ok fine, it was just fine. Sounds like The Beatles, maybe there is some backstory about why it was groundbreaking back in the day but, I probably won't ever listen to it again (as I hadn't ever listened to it all the way through before).

Mindless

Not prime beatles but their sound is so distinct in this album

the last song is okay

"Rubber Soul" is the sixth studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. Released in 1965, this album was hugely influential in shaping the direction of rock and popular music. They utilized brighter guitar tones and a wider variety of instrumentation. While this album has great historical significance, it may as well be lost to the ages.

Average Beatles album, and I can't see anyone else covering Run For Your Life..

6/10 for the most time "Rubber Soul" felt like chill background music, to spin during a car ride or while stuying Michelle, I'm looking through you, In my life were my standouts.

Are they massively influential? Yes. Talented? Yes... but I just don't enjoy listening to them. No clue why.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but this album is meh. It's bubblegum pop. Adding a sitar to one song doesn't magically make it psychedelia. I don't care that it's "The Beatles". You can scream "but the influence" all you want. This was released the same year as My Generation by The Who, Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire, Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis and many, many more bands that were pushing the envelope way beyond what the fab four were doing here.

Maybe I just don't really like The Beatles... Was gonna give it 3 but loses a star for the truly garbage Run For Your Life

Hit and miss.

It's the beatles but boring

Only good song was drive my car

Just doesn’t excite me

1965. Haven't heard of these guys before but that's understandable after listening. Pretty dull.

Nothin really stood out

it was not my cup of tea

Who cares

Not for me

Not my kind of music

Still dont get the hype

After listening to Rubber Soul. I can tell you that while The Beatles do have their fans, I'm certainly not one of them. None of the songs really managed to stand out to me in this album (except for Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, Girl and I'm Looking Through You). Overall, While it wasn't terrible, It did little to change my impression of the band Best Song: I'm Looking Through You Worst Song: Run For Your Life

A few decent songs but below average for a Beatles album

meh, not really my type of music

I remember very little. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to you. I don’t particularly feel any way about it. I won my ranked game though so that was cool

alrighty!!

It's fine. Nothing really hooked me in, but not hard to listen to either. Hoped to finally start seeing why everyone makes such a big deal about this group, but I'm still missing it.

Not for me; never liked them much

Another day another Beatles' album. I don't feel like I have a ton to say about this album. It's well done. Production is about as good as it can be. Some bonafide hits. Everything else is just static in the noise that makes up the Beatles' music. Perfectly listenable but not very memorable. Girl is really good though. I like that one. 2.5

Not their greatest album, ok to listen to in the background.

Perfectly agreeable. Not really my style to listen to again, but it's entertaining to go through the catalogue of a band that was so influential.

It's okay

A couple of good songs

Eentonige zeik-liefdesliedjes, matig

Eh. Not a Beatles fan. This album was OK but not gonna change my mind on this group.

Pre-drugs Beatles were shit

Lalala Badababa 1.9

Couple of good songs and a ton of filler.

Beatlemania still remains a mystery to me.

I thought this middle era Beatles stuff might turn out to be my favourite, was hoping for a good blend of rocky earlier stuff and experimental later stuff. Turned out it was just quite bland stuff.

Just doesn’t move me. Song from the chest.

The lyrics for "Run for your life" are surprisingly creepy. Perhaps not surprising Lennon wrote the lyrics.

Mittelmäßiges Beatles Album. Kein track der mich gegriffen hat.

Its ok to listen to but not super enjoyable. Not really any hits and its mainly pretty dull

It sure is the Beatles. Not their most exciting outing

not for my taste

Dated. I don't think it has the lasting power as much as other Beatles' records – although, I think this was maybe the first album where they stretched themselves outside of the bounds of their earlier sounds. "Norweigian Wood" is a great track. Other than that, I'm fairly apathetic about this record.

not a beatles guy

Best Song: Nowhere Man. Even if the vocal harmonizing feels a bit annoying at time (and honestly, a bit like a cult), the lyrical weirdness is enough to make this one stick out. Worst Song: If I Needed Someone. Only the worst here because it is, like much of the rest here, boring. By the end of the album, my taste for these hyper-sweet melodies had long expired. Overall: Fourteen songs that absolutely sprint past, each one dangling a slightly different jingle to try to grab your attention before its near-identical twin shoves it out of the way to offer its own wares. Everything about this is commercial in the worst way. This feels like an album that you like after you've already decided you like the Beatles.

I am not into Beatles

kk slecht

Don't understand the appeal, perfectly passable songs but nothing life changing ('Girl' is my favourite but a lot are quite dreary and don't say much) Maybe I need a pop music historian to tell me why they are so good. Compare it to Dylan's Highway 61 released in the same year and they are in different stratosphere.

Unremarkable.

Still no

Never been a big Beatles fan... This album didn't change anything...

one okay song

Boring

Bunch of men whining about women, who they call girls. Some nice melodies. Michelle dodged a bullet.

Mediocre at best, not a slog but definitely not great

Does almost nothing for me. Favorite songs are probably 'Girl' and 'Wait'.

Kind of too old and the numbers are all very similar.

A lot on here I hadn’t heard. A few classics, but many blubbers a resolute tune. Usually a few listens wins me over

Nice to have. 3*

I get that the beatles are iconic and all but I just don't like them

Not changed my mind about the Beatles. Liked the Ringo song best.

Idk I just don't think I like the Beatles that much

beatles innit not my fave really, surprised this one made it in

Not my favourite Beatles Album, Drive My Car is good tho

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Not for me

1. car - 2 2. uuood - 2 3. zee - 1 4. man - 2 5. think - 1 6. uuord - 1 7. michelle - 1 8. uuhat - 1 9. girl - 1 10. looking - 1 11. life - 2 12. uuait - 1 13. needed - 0 14. run - 1

Quite bland to my ears. I understand it's a classic, but I really don't vibe to it too much.

Overrated.

"Let me give you a British answer, it's not my cup of tea" - Spike Lee

I dunno dude. They're just not my thing. Sounds too happy go lucky. I just don't get them.

Did not like this

I don’t like the sound of the Beatles

Rubber Soul benefits from my unfamiliarity, so at least the songs are new-ish, or I've forgotten my original impression. There's some neat sounds on this record, but I still don't care for the Beatles. As usual, I found the songs ranging from middling to awful. Just boring, derivative nothing. I hate that I still have 5 more Beatles albums coming.

Very bad. The best songs are when they were a boy band - I want to hold your hand.

Not really my jam, also very disturbed by the "run for your life" song - so dark for a band that is meant to be all about love - was waiting for the theme to flip but it never did. not cool!

I didn’t know they could get even more droney but apparently they did. And WTF!? Run For Your Life.

I was going to give a higher rating to this album than I usually give to Beatles albums. But then I got to the last song and, umm, that was horrid.

Not for a fan

Most overrated band in history.

This album was not meant to be played in 2023.

Tried to listen to a couple songs and just shit it down

Bollocks

This is fine until the last song where they start threatening the life of a woman if she talks to another man. For that reason alone I'm rating this a 1. Is violence against women still this casually encouraged?

I refuse. I literally do not give a shit about these guys anymore

The good news, the songs only last about 2.5 minutes. The terrible news, there are 14 songs. Enough of these guys already. Lennon was a POS human. F off with this band.

Shite band. Don’t mistake lack of talent for genius.

Toe-tapping beats and forgettable songs for me. 'You Won't See Me' is the epitome of what I don't like about the Beatles. Super repetitive and includes a bunch of 'ooh' and 'la la la's.

That's gonna be a no for me dawg.

My favourite Beatles album by a really really long way. Came out 3 years before bookends by s&g and contains just as many sensitive, beautifully written acoustic tracks. The highlights of the album are easily norwegian wood, nowhere man and in my life (one of the greatest songs ever written). drive my car is a fucking awful album opener and makes me want to kill myself every time I hear it so minus one point for that but every other track is near perfect.

Loved it

a fav for first album~
