Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Good 3. Cool stuff!

I’ve been waiting for something iconic from a well known band, that I haven’t listened to before, and this wasn’t it. I do think these bands are held to a higher regard due to the lack of diversity and choice there was

Nota: 2.9

The mega-hit "Behind Blue Eyes" plus the great "Baba O'Riley" and a pretty solid rest. 3,5

The good songs are quite okay but the rest of thr album is just badly mid. Does nothing amazing imo. Just kinda meh rock slop we see quite often here.

I was not prepared to be reminded of CSI New York on this monday morning. This record is pretty okay. Not much of it stands out. It's the grandfather of poprock, which makes it definitely influential and worthy of being on this list. However that does not make it memorable. I do have to say it does not really sound like it's from the 70's. If you put a gun to my head, I'd have guessed either the 80's or 90's. It starts strong, but quickly loses steam. It has some really mid ballad-y songs and more folky songs, which are just meh. Behind Blue Eyes is pretty good, but that means this record only has two decent songs. Luckily the record has a short run time. 6/10

Having recently been wowed and surprised by The Who Sell Out from The Who’s looser, more psychedelic earlier period I was a bit suspicious of diving back into their hard rock material but once again this band show themselves to be one I’ve severely underrated. While this is less of a match for me genre wise, the reassuring, robust qualities of a song like Baba O’Riley is undeniable regardless of how your bread is buttered. They assert themselves in such a way that you can’t question whether they’ve got the situation under control - you just have to sit back and appreciate it. It’s not all of that level, the middle of the record is a little faint, but it comes back with a vengeance with the solemn and dramatically chilling Behind Blue Eyes (I’m ashamed to say I’d only ever heard the Limp Bizkit version!!) Then Won’t Get Fooled Again which is as good a justification as any for the existence of the whole hard rock genre. While The Who Sell Out might be more my flavour I must admit that this feels more like an “album.” I can see why people are nuts for it. I won’t get fooled again!

Pretty good rock album.

Nice to feel like in a movir, classic but not something I would listen casually to.

This is as good as it gets for The Who, who I generally can't stand. Horribly dated rock but this has 3-4 classic songs.

Two awesome songs

starts with two (maybe 3) great tracks, ends with 2 great tracks. the middle however, sucks

eh no substance also doesn’t sound that great at most parts

Certainly not my favorite album by the who.. It has some jams though.

It’s ok

I try to listen to the whole album for each of these, but this was legit 3 hours and some songs repeating 3 times. It was good and rocks pretty hard. The use of the keyboard mixed with drums was pretty groundbreaking and had it's own feel to go along with Daltry's voice. That said... just too much. 3.

Moni kappale löytyi jo aiemmein soittolistalta. TBH odotin enemmän, yks kaikkien aikojen bändeistä ja niiden suosituin levy. Levyn hitit on jotain taikuutta baba o'riley, behind blue eyes (honorable mention wont get fooled again) on kyllä siis yksiä parhaimpia kappaleita koskaan (siis menee johonki top 50-100), mut noi muut legit korkeintaan keskivertoa.

An album with some killer songs (and one or two that are pretty mediocre). There were also a bunch of random live recordings at the end.

Good hits, mediocre rest of the album

3-4 totalt sett.

Baba O'Riley has to be one of the best opening tracks on any album. Unfortunately it's let down immediately by Bargain, probably the most forgetable song by the who. Still, the album is redeemed by other bangers like the song is over, getting in tune and won't get fooled again. Not bad!

I remember liking this album quite a bit in high school, so I was kinda shocked by how whelmed I was listening to it again. It's a quick runtime that felt bloated still and it didn't seem to have much the cleverness of their earlier singles and albums.

Not fantastic. Not bad. But at least the original "Behind Blue Eyes" is way better than that toe crawling Limp Bizkit cover. And "Won't Get Fooled Again" is a briliant song! 3/5

If you've never heard them before (enjoy!) - 5 Older brother had it (and cranked in his bedroom) - 4 Saw them live in '71 (JC, enough already) - 3 Older than the band (turn it down!) - 2 Who's on first? - 1

3-4 songs where I first thought "Hey, I know this" then a couple mins later thought "dang, this is really good." Still, I struggle to lift my ceiling on this age/type of muzac.

One of the more overrated bands of all time. Not bad, just not as great as most people think.

So many Who albums. I feel like it could be spread around a bit more. I do love this album cover for what it's worth. Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again are great songs, they're just overplayed and I'm tired of hearing them. Favorite songs: Behind Blue Eyes, Love Ain't For Keeping

Some good, some meh

Started out a little slow but I liked the second half of the album.

Overall solid, think I need to listen to it another time or two though to really know how to rate it.

I liked the album overall.

I prefer their earlier albums when they influenced punk. Its OK, but meh.

Pretty iconic and what I remembered!

Fairly familiar with the band name and a few of the hits from this album. The songs in between hits didn't do much for me. The songs I did know, I'm not sure I have ever sat down and listened to them start to finish before. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but I was pretty underwhelmed by what I thought was going to be a powerhouse album

its a good album, for me, it mix a lot of music genres, but yeah, its not a bad album ngl

I understand why people love it, but its not really my style. The cover is tough though

Good start, kind of meh by the end

This was okay, started very strong, liked Baba O'Riley in particular. Tapered off towards the end, some really long songs in here >8 mins

I haven’t heard this one all the way through in 20 years and the first song might indirectly be the reason. Baba O’Riley is easily the best song on the album and it does so much I feel like it’s all I need by the time it’s done. As for the other big hits on the record, Won’t Get Fooled Again is just a bit too long for what it has to offer and Behind Blue Eyes is kind of a weak spot on the album to me. The rest of it almost felt like listening for the first time. Bargain was a really good follow-up to the opener, with sounds in the same vein. The next two tracks feel a little too straightforward to be interesting. The Song is Over is better, as is Getting In Tune. The band is at its best when it isn’t doing riff-based guitar music. Track one is an easy 5/5, but too much of this feels like run of the mill rock music. I’ll probably go right back to only ever playing Baba O’Riley. A strong 3/5… almost a light 4.

Another Who album! Again, it’s ok but they remain over-rated.

Niet slecht niet wow

There were a few good songs in here but nothing that really clicked with me. Solid 3

The instrumental is really nice. I'm not a fan of some of the lyrics; they seem a bit repetitive so far. I've enjoyed Bargain the most. I was liking getting in tune, but the latter half I don't enjoy as much as the first half. The start of Baba I've heard before, but the rest of the song was fine, not amazing, to me anyway. Love Ain't for Keeping is too short; that's about it. Also, the lyrics are the same again. Ok, so I have for sure heard Behind Blue Eyes; this is a banger, btw. I'm surprised it has fewer plays than Baba. I don't think I can finish the album even though I'm on the last song; a lot of this album throughout every song has the same issues of lyrics for me, and the only candle here is the instrumental. I might just be impatient, but that's just me. I'll give this album a 6.5.

It's good, but almost too stereotypical "rock" with not much else to say about it (by me :-)). Doesn't move me but I can happily listen to this. I do think this must have been really good in a live setting.

Good rock, but unfortunately none of the songs really stood out for me other than Behind Blue Eyes, yet a good album

Individual songs are great but not much of a coherent theme, doesn't feel like an album vs a mixtape

Solid. The singles are great. The rest... fine.

Good album.

Great songs bookending what is a really weak middle. Starts and finishes ridiculously strong but those songs sandwiched in are really fucking boring.

Familiar music

I was ready to be mostly uninterested in this, but of course the connection of Terry Riley's maximal-minimalist style on the electric organ lends a proto-math-rock sensibility to what might otherwise have been a pretty average early seventies bit of Brit rock.

Good start and end, lack of same vibes in the middle. And it's too "classic" for my taste

fav songs: bargain dramatic, anthem, unconvincing 50/100

Great opener

I was hopeful…it starts out with possibly the best classic rock song ever. But I hate Bargain (blame commercial media) and Behind Blue Eyes (blame Limp Bizkit) so it’s hard to give it a great rating.

Some great classics on this album with the iconic cover. It does drop a bit in the middle, but this album is high as one of their best. For me this is a high 3 or 3.5/5.

This is better than I remembered The Who being. But I'm not going to listen to it again, with the exception perhaps of Going Mobile which I really enjoyed.

It's not bad, yet I was really tempted to put it off. Stand-outs - Baba O'Riley - Bargain

Starts and ends with a bang, with Baba, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won’t Get Fooled Again. Outside of those (admittedly great) tracks, I was not in love with the rest of the album. I understand that this is a seminal part of the 70s classic rock era, but The Who just isn’t my favorite band of that stretch, I guess.

I had to listen to "Baba O'Riley" to like it because when I first listened to it, i thought it was boring and mid. I love the calm instruments throughout this album. "My wife" threw the album off. I like the shift from acoustic to rock ballad in "behind blue eyes" I love all the songs except for my wife, getting in tune, and going mobile.

Mixed opinions on this but I’ll give it a 3

Best Tracks: Baba O'Riley The Song Is Over Won't Get Fooled Again

Ja goed album. Kan je niet echt op haten. Zou het zelf niet vaak opzetten.

Erste song tuff

Maso.

I will say that Who's Next is carried by two (maybe three) songs tops. I don't think it's an extraordinary album.

Tried to keep track of the songs that get repeated in this so i listen to them only once but there are probably a few i still haven’t heard. Really like the Who i think they’re pretty influential. Fav track might be “Getting in tune”.

Banging album Not exactly my type of music but I can see why this album made the list Some great instrumentals

Top titres : Going mobile, behind blue eyes

I should probably relisten to this at some point—didn't have time

Holy long. But good driving vibes.

I wanted to like this, but surprisingly found it just to be okay - I did like the first track a lot though.

I've never the genre. Never really tried it, but i found this enjoyable to commute to work with. The first track was awful, but the rest were good. 'Bargain' and 'my wife' got added to my playlist.

The tracks that I already knew fit in well, but everything else felt like filler between those. It's almost a monotone album - not many highs or lows, just a lot of the same thing. Which isnt a bad, but it just all ran together. I think this is a rock opera? it sure felt like one, in that I dont really remember any amazing melodies, but the singer was trying to tell me something - a story? I dont know, I could barely understand what was being said. Maybe its not an album for running. The keyboards and drums were amazing though, there was a thickness to the low end of the album that felt unique.

It’s iconic. Just not my taste.

Liked this a lot. Maybe I am a boomer.

The Who has always felt like a band in supposed to like. I try and try to get into them, understand them, but it just doesn't click. Some outstanding hits on here, but lots of the album drifted by without really having an impact on me.

Solid rock, can hear its influence but not my cup of tea

It's all in the opener

3.25 - It's weird listening to an album like this where three of songs are very, very popular and familiar and the rest of the album is not familiar at all. It's also the case for me that I've heard those familiar songs more as covers or edited clips leading into episodes of CSI, so it's a strange listen. It's fine overall and occasionally epic.

It's alrifht. The hits are the songs worth listening to.

I’ve heard of The Who and know famous songs (Baba O’Riley, My Generation) but I’ve never listened to a full album by them before.

this was actually pretty great. probably the best who album i've listened to. back to back bangers. good production, fun vocals. I enjoyed this more than i thought i would! 7/10

The Who er egentlig litt kjedelig eller? "Abba i riket" er legendarisk, og de har noen andre hits & bops, men det er liksom ikke noe som drar meg tilbake.

Abba i riket er selvfølgelig en banger, men det er noe med the who som ikke helt svinger for meg. Låtskrivinga fester seg på en måte ikke. Vet ikke hvorfor. (Nå har jeg kjempet så hardt mot autokorrektur på iPhone at jeg bare lar det stå til)

RYM 2.5

This album just kinda washed over me. I know all these songs from hearing them a thousand times on rock radio in the 80s. I've transcended liking or hating them; they just are. Obviously Entwistle is one of the greatest ever to do it, but i can't stand Keith Moon, and the others guys are adequate at best. Never need to hear any of it again. top track: the live version of Young Man Blues on the deluxe edition

The more Who albums I revisit here, the more I realize that aside from the hits, I really only care for Maximum R&B era Who. The hits hit here, but otherwise doesn't do much for me. A solid 3.5⭐️

Good old Baba O'riley og Behind Blue eyes - der er nogle nostalgi-bangers på og noget episk over det

my question exactly.

Pretty enjoyable

Very strong start and finish. The rest is ok, nowhere near the peaks. 3/5.

Go DAWGS!

Some good songs

I’ll say it, I was never a Who fan. They are the classic rock band that everyone loves, but I just don’t get it. Sure, so tracks like ‘I can see for miles’ are excellent, but aside from that I’ve always been meh about them. Who’s Next turned out to really be a good one though. The only tracks that slowed this down were in the middle- that one about the car. Baba O, and Behind Blue Eyes. Ok, sure. I get it. Iconic cover, too.

Not the theme for CSI Miami... This is real peak dad rock. I know the big three on this album for before. I don't think it has the appropriate nostalgia for me to keep in my library and play again, but I did enjoy myself

So many classics. Honestly, I didn't know that I've already listened to this album in piecemeal

When God was handing out talent to the Holy Triumverate, The Stones got all the swagger, The Beatles got all the artfulness, and The Who got all the self-seriousness. That "Who's Next" was created from the ashes of another rock opera is very revealing. The Who were very formative for me, but somewhere along the way, I lost interest. "Who's Next" is about as good as it gets, and there are plenty of songs that still get me all the way there. But there's just something missing. Maybe it's the demise of classic rock radio; individual Who songs are jolts of electricity. But after sitting with an album for an hour, I found myself wanting to skip to the next song or take a break to listen to something else. Still, Keith Moon and Pete Townshend's prodigiousness is the perfect time capsule for the era of big drum fills and bigger guitar solos.

This was okay. Again, I feel I say this a lot, I liked it but I see myself never coming back to it. I liked the use of early age synths, but for me, nothing in the songs really stuck, other than the first and last 2 tracks. The middle I found to be very samey and a little bland. May have to try again at some point.

Dad rock, but bloody good dad rock

eh. behind blue eyes ok

it was mid

I want to like this album, it's bookended by great tracks but the middle section always leaves me uninspired.

Good sound, weird themes toward women? Love songs within the context of the album feel like just trying to get laid.

The Who seem to be my Alan Partridge band, by that I mean I think their best album is their Greatest Hits, the rest - this is a prime example, is fine but no more than fine to these ears.

Unsurprisingly, a solid album, it starts and finishes strongly, I feel they knew which songs were weaker and relegated them to the middle. All in all, I really can't complain about half-decent boomer rock. 3/5

I almost gave it 4* but I could get into it enough. Bookended by epic amazing tracks, but I couldn’t really get into it. Was probabaly just me or something.

Baba O’Reilly is badass. And I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that song. You know, I think The Who is why Best Of albums exist though. I think between all of The Who albums I’ve heard on this project, there is one incredible album between them. 7/10. An extra point cause Baba O’Reilly rules so hard.

It's a nicely put together collection of mostly "cast-off" tracks, and despite that it adheres pretty well. There's really not too much of a clunker on this album. A few that I like less than others, but I don't hate -- or love -- any of them I guess that's it, it's nothing that resonates with me -- likewise for band in general, with some exceptions. When I got into bands from this era, The Who didn't hit for me like others did. Floyd, The Doors, Dylan, these all stuck with me, not The Who. I'm not sure why. The Who -- or this album -- suffers most for me by the fact that by the time I was more familiar with them, a huge chunk of the songs were over-familiar in the sense that they were in every TV commercial or show you'd see. I think this is why it's not a 3.5 that gets bumped to a 4. It's almost like it skipped the introduction phase to my ear and went straight to ubiquity.

Nothing more than thousand other rock albums, except of course two classics. 5/10

pretty fire already had 3 songs

Behind Blue Eyes saved this album for me, just got kind boring in the middle

This is good, no songs are better than the hits but cohesive enough and the hits are certified bangers even if they're a little over played at this point.

Gaining respect for the who, Moon kills the drums whole album

Listened Before?: Partially Pros: BABA O'RILEY! Cons: Did not super enjoy the rest of the album Songs Added to Playlist: Baba O'Riley

Forgettable tunes towards the middle of the album in general.. didn’t enjoy the full ride

got me feel like an american-dad, it was aight.

Some songs were familiar bangers for me

I have don't really have any comments. It was okay. The intro was cool. 2.5/5

Traust gammel gubberock. Holder seg helt greit.

Baba O’Riley slaps as always, and Won’t Get Fooled Again is a great ender. The rest of the album is samey and kinda just there. Good performing and good vibes, but dated and not really something I think I need to revisit.

I liked this one. Good production, couple of good tracks, interesting overall.

I remember the first time I heard Baba O'Riley when I was i teen and i remember being shook by how good it is. very nostalgic album for me bcs it was one of the first albums i listened to at the beginning of developing my music taste.

Without baba oreily it would be a 4.... i dont like that song

Some good songs on this album! Some were a little on the nose, but a good album overall.

the first and the last song are bangers, but the rest of the album is kind of a drag

Best Track - "Baba O'Riley"

Too long so only listened to disc 1 but some good tunes on there

Overall okay but I massively prefer the parts where Townshend sings. Daltrey is just a bit too shouty for me. The synthy stuff is pretty cool but the album dint really do much for me

Good album with some great songs. Bargain is a real revelation here

only liked maybe 1 or 2 songs the rest were not memorable 5/10

3e album des Who, 3e incompréhension.

I knew the singles off this album. They’re great but something about this album doesn’t flow right to me. It’s still a really good album.

Cool, but outside of the huge hits, nothing that will bring me back to the whole album.

I accidentally saw a couple of the reviews of this pre listening as is the perils of getting to an album late which i guess didn’t sway me at all just kinda tempered the way i listened to it. Lessons! Anyway all the bits of this that were instrument generated i was pretty into esp the woodwinds (maybe????) but nothing about the lyrics or vocals grabbed me. Except admittedly opening a song with ‘this song is over’ which is funny but i honestly couldnt tell if he was in on the joke.

Confession, I was today years old when I found out Behind Blue Eyes is not a Limp Bizkit song (thanks So Fresh: Hits of Summer 2005 plus the Biggest Hits of 2004), oops! The whimsy of the end of Baba O’Reily was fun

I appreciate what the album represented for rock music, but it wasn't for me personally. The use of the synth definitely stood out. I liked the experimentation and how they were able to weave it into music. Songs like Won't Be Fooled Again reminded me of how hard rock started, because of its instrumentation. However, I found myself a bit bored listening to the album, and no one song, except for maybe the beginning and ending ones, actually stuck with me.

Classic, just not big Who fan

There are some Who classics on this album like Baba O'Riley, Behind blue eyes or Won't get fooled again, but few of the other tracks don't reach the same quality. One of the best Who albums anyway...

Much better than the previous Who.

This album is much better than Tommy. If you have to own one who album this is it. I’m still surprised how much some of these bands ruin songs as they drag them out I.e. behind blue eyes

I hate The Who. I cannot divorce their songs from a life of hearing them in advertisements (“best I’ve ever had” used to scream over a truck commercial in my youth) or how they were played to death on the classic rock station. When this initially came up, I was having a lousy day and trying to get through this at the time made it worse. Not for me.

Nice album

The first and last two songs were good, but the stuff in between was pretty uneventful. High 3.

The bookends of Who’s Next are both all-time greats. Two of the greatest rock songs ever, not to mention my vote for the greatest scream ever (YEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHH). That said, the seven tracks in the middle have always left me wanting something more.

Great one! Very dad

the album is good but might not be their best album 7/10 2026/1/24

This has just confirmed to me that I'm just not that into The Who. At least this album has their big hits.

Pleasantly surprised since the other The Who albums I’ve listened to sucked

Baba is a 5 star song. And I will always think of Jamie Thomas’s part from Mislead Youth when Baba plays. But what about the rest of the album? The next two are fine. The song is over is 😬 though. Same with Getting in Tune. Not consistently good. Hard to justify a 4 overall for only one great song 🤷‍♂️

The Who? 3.5/5

It's the CSI guys! Some great rock on this album. Very catchy songs and great guitar.

Some great songs on here that unfortunately have almost all been co-opted for commercials. Rather forgettable middle section of tracks otherwise.

It’s fine

I had no idea that the song I always thought was called "Teenage Wasteland" was called "Baba O'Riley"

Starts off really good, second half forgettable

iconic, short, not a big "The Who" fan but I can respect it. The ending of the album is good.

First things first, the album is REALLY long. And the songs like repeat themselves. Idk, i just dont really love rock, soooo.

"I play this note because it fits in well with the cords I'm playing' is something I would write if I had nothing to write about. Points off even though some of their best songs are on here.

Yep. It's The Who. I'd love to know how many times I've heard this album. Doesn't carry the same punch that it once did. Does that mean it's not 4 stars? I don't know. I'm too sober to do this. Fuck it. 3 stars.

Fascinating how much music has leeched into my brain in my 24 years of life. Baba O'Riley dominates soundtracks. I liked the album, there were a few that had me bopping

Classic rock in the strongest sense. Album start and ends brilliantly. Enjoyed especially 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. The middle of the album is a bit less interesting. Would give it 3.5/5.

Baba O’Reilly is the standout on this album, the rest is decent. Started to lose me towards the middle of the album - Getting in Tune was way too repetitive; to vocals on Going Mobile were a bit whiny; Behind Blue Eyes was also meh. Won’t Get Fooled Again was a solid track to close out the album

No album should ever be 2.5 hours long

Maybe a 3.5. Not as good as I was expecting

I find Daltrey's strained vocals hard work, and a lot of the tracks seem to meander aimlessly - but almost anything can be forgiven for Won't Get Fooled Again.

Big fan of the sexy drums in this album. Lots of toms which are the hottest of the drums obviously. Faves are baba, behind blue eyes, and won’t get fooled again.

What would you do to find me 👉👈 1. Baba O'Riley ⭐ 2. Bargain 👍 3. Love ain't for keeping ⭐ 4. My wife 👍 5. The song is over ⭐ 6. Getting in tune 👍 7. Going mobile 👍 8. Behind blue eyes ⭐ 9. Won't get fooled again 👍 OVERALL - 3.5/5

Typisches who Album 3/5

Fav track- Bargain and Getting in Tune Least fav track- Behind Blue Eyes Fav lyric- “To find you, I’m gonna drown an unsung man.” Overall rating- 6/10 Notes- not exactly my kind of music, but pretty good rock overall. i like bargain cause its more rock-ish than the rest of the album. sounds kinda pink floyd.

Opener and closer are amazing, Getting in Tune was funny, nothing stuck out to me but I can tell it's good. None of these songs were any Pinball Wizards tho.

A classic, but I was a tad bit bored by the end. 3.5-4

eee-YEAHHHHHH

Soundtrack from my teen years! Worlds Greatest Rock Band does it again!

Baba O'Reilly and Won't Get Fooled Again are epic tracks that bookend an otherwise just ok album

Pretty decent Who album. This album has most of the Who songs which I know and like the most. 3.4

It was ok background music, but just didn't excite me at all

Just finished listening to full album, I rate it a 7.5/10, I liked it !

Dec 26, 2025, not my first time with this album, but the first time I have listened with intent. Behind Blue Eyes & Won't Get Fooled Again stole the show for me. I personally wouldn't reach for this album- but I respect it. 3.1/5

Some were good but I can’t stand the old “rock voice”

Aardig album! Niet zo veel over te zeggen. Gewoon leuk.

Just like watching CSI theme tunes, some good songs, song ok

Good stuff from The Who. Second LP of theirs that I’ve rated in here. The incredibly overrated “Love at Leeds” was the first one I reviewed. Several “Who standards” on here this one.

Quite disappointing. A few good tracks on there but a lot of Who tracks feel quite awkwardly put together to me and they never capture the energy and flow of Live at Leeds in any of their recorded material.

nice album doesn't need the extra tracks in my opinion

i enjoyed the opening track and the last 3 tracks. won’t get fooled again was my favourite but i didn’t enjoy the album as a whole but definitely want to check out more of their music

Its a good album, very blues alike, but for now it feels generic, with a few songs to enjoy and listen again.

This was a really great album, but 2.5 hours is a ridiculous commitment. Favorite song was behind blue eyes

The songs are having a mid off in my ears

The intro of “Baba O’Riley” immediately caught my attention. I remember hearing it for the first time on House TV show, which made it feel familiar right away. So far, I like the first five songs on the album. Will I listen to it again? Maybe “Baba O’Riley.” The rest—I’m not so sure. Great music, just not really my taste.

This was a fun listen. Had some classics I had no idea were The Who. Made me realize I do not know this band. Not my style but I have a lot of respect for this and it’s definitely a good time.

Was teetering between 2.5 and 3 but felt bad. It's another to potentially come back to but I'm still undecided on whether I like The Who

good album

Every song is pretty good, but nothing that really connects with me on a strong level. 7/10

Also better than I expected

Album Rate: 6,7/10 The Man Comes Around: 9 Hurt: 8,5 Give My Love To Rose: 8,5 Bridge Over Troubled Water: 7 I Hung My Head: 8 First Time I Saw Your Face: 7 Personal Jesus: 7 In My Life: 7 Sam Hall: 7 Danny Boy: 5 Desperado: 5 I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry: 4 Tear Stained Letter: 6 Streets Of Laredo: 6 We’ll Meet Again: 5,5

Even in my big Who phase, I knew these hits so well from classic rock radio, tv, and film I couldn’t hear them fresh. The thudding 3 chord motif is kinda hilarious in its monotony, but they sure surround it with appropriate bombast.

https://youtu.be/I79YNDYrUno?si=rBC3ZrtI1ueVNtZ8

Not bad, not good, not my taste. With the original Behind Blue Eyes on it!

type shit 😛 pink floyd without the pretentious fanbase

ok so I didnt know the riley in baba o'riley was TERRY RILEY ! made me like the who a lot more haha... also that track makes me feel like im watching a scorsese movie... but honestly the album i feel like opens and closes really strong and everything in between is just like ... ok lol... i dunno i kinda felt like i got tricked a lil bit,

Great, classic songs but overall not my cup of tea! Top Songs: Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes

More varied than I'd imagined for a 'straight up' rock album, generally good, but not amazing.

Baba O'Riley is my favorite The Who song, but, that doesn't make me a The Who fan, or a fan of this album.

Geiles Rockalbum.

Solid album.

i could never get behind the "classic rock album" thing, this is my first listen and i mean yeah, it's alright, but there's nothing special about it best way to describe this would be: background music in a rundown pub, so in the context of downing a pint this could work, but i can't imagine any other situation in which i'd listen to this album in full again, just a few songs

the rest of the album was so mid it made me question the ability of baba to even perform

Day 4: Who’s Next - The Who Baba O Reilly: (9/10) Bargain: (6/10) Love Ain’t For Keeping: (6/10) My Wife: (6/10) The Song is Over: (2/10) Going Mobile: (2/10) Behind Blue Eyes: (8/10) Won’t Get Fooled Again: (9.5/10) Average: (6/10) 3 Stars

somehow prefer behind blue eyes over baba o riley. better than the limp bizkit one

Feels a lot more straightforward than something like Tommy. I read somewhere (pretty sure it was the Wikipedia article for Live at Leeds but I could be wrong) that the band didn't like the way Tommy sounded, so maybe it's a good thing they switched to this style instead, but I'm just not feeling the sound change as much. Way too much "you did this, you did that, you you you you you" in just about every song. Baba O'Riley is great, but it promises so much more than the rest of the album gives.

It's the most fun I've had with a Who album but that's a low bar for me

There are some really high highs, and the lows aren't really that low. However, the amount of synthesizer can get really repetitive at times. This is an album I can get tired of very quickly. The overall theme seems really abstract. I didn't make it all the way through the B-Side today. High three.

Half good?

Good production and delivery, but just not for me.

The Who performed their rock opera Quadrophenia on two nights at GM Place in Vancouver in October of 1996. Commercially, it was a flop with lots of unsold tickets and empty seats. On the second night with a few friends from high school we took public transit downtown to try our luck with the scalpers. I wasn’t able to get a seat with my friends, but I did get row 14 on the floor for a whole twenty bucks. My memories of the show are vague: Billy Idol (already well washed-up) and Gary Glitter (before we knew he was a pedophile) had roles; the Who played some non-Quadrophenia classics after the opera; the boomers in the audience loved it. I think they were good, but like I said impressions are vague. What stands out more to me is the feeling of still being in school and getting that little taste of the world out there, without parents, and the freedom that comes with that. So I’m giving this album an extra star for bringing up this memory which is largely forgotten. It’s hard to give a rating to albums like this because they carry so much weight. I’ve seen documentaries discussing the importance of the synth intro for leading song Baba O’Riley; some of the tracks, like Behind Blue Eyes and Won’t Get Fooled again I’ve heard countless times in countless contexts. If I try to step away from all of that and take the album as an album, it’s okay. Production values being what they were at the time, Roger Daltrey’s vocals are too high in the mix for me; the things that I’d like to hear more of, like Keith Moon’s often spectacular drumming, sit much lower in the background only hinting at the power they must have had in a live setting. Who’s Next is sandwiched between the rock opera Tommy and the previously-mentioned Quadrophenia, and the ambition to be more than a rock band comes across, but because it doesn’t resolve as a narrative, it sometimes feels meandering and lacking focus. Maybe you had to be there at the time.

Good when i need some oldies

This was not a bad album.

Starts off with a bang with the revolutionary "Baba O'Riley". Drifts into generic Who territory for five songs. Finally picks up steam with "Going Mobile", a prelude to the one-two punch of "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" which close out the album.

Not their best work.

Cool concept of studio and live album! Confused about all the songs from Tommy though

Not a big fan of The Who, the singles are fine but this was forgettable for me

I didn’t grow up listening to The Who, I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

classic the who also OG CSI intro song?? LOL 6/10

A couple iconic songs, good stuff, jut not really my cup of tea. I can see why they are liked

Definitely some classics here but a lot of filler too, really love Baba o Riley though

some great songs on here, such as the first track and some of the last ones. other ones are good too but not something that perks my ears that much.

One of the all time album openers in Baba O’Reilly

Not an unpleasant experience. Could grow on me in the future.

3.5 Not really my jam, but I can appreciate this. Groundbreaking at the time and a few timeless songs on here, but won't make it on heavy rotation for me.

Decent - Townshend provides some nice contrast

generic, but not terrible. 3/5

Strong start to the album but nothing that kept me engaged after the first 2 songs.

I never really got into The Who but I did like the Tommy and Quadrophenia movies. I will admit starting with Baba O'Riley was a big turn off, I really don't like that song for some reason. I feel like The Who is a band I wanted to get into but never really could, that hasn't really changed. I mean it's okay but just nothing that I'm super excited about. Also, "Won't Get Fooled Again" is far too long at 8 minutes, yikes. I guess it just feels like generic arena rock to me which I'm sure at the time was exciting but doesn't really move me.

Ganz ok. nicht mehr, nicht weniger.

The Who gives a fuck

I don't really like the style of The Who, but this record has a lot of hits. I still would bit want to listen to it for a second time.

over the top rock. examining the 70's, this is the album that screams what rock was more than any other of that era.

Some of the largest songs surround by other songs trying to be some of the other largest songs. Ain’t ever been my thing.

Talented musicians. Some beautiful songs, some annoying songs, some in between - purely subjective. Naked eye is my favourite.

Fit surprisingly well for the days task, which felt slightly adventurous. Always a fun experience to hear songs (two in this instance) that one recognizes from elsewhere. Close to a 4, but not quite

enjoyed this more than I thought. musically interesting, lyrics still hold up today. 3.5 stars

Good background music for a drive or at a bar, something about The Who isn’t quite my style

Album 34/1001 The Who at their peak - their best album featuring their best song, also one of the greatest in rock history, 'Baba O'Riley'. Favourite lyrics: MY WIFE "Give me a bodyguard, A black belt judo expert with a machiiiine gun" GOING MOBILE "I don't care about pollution I'm an air conditioned gypsy That's my solution Watch the police and the taxman miss me! I'm mobile!" Favourite song: Baba O'Riley 🕉🎶 * *The song title is a mashup of Meher Baba, a spiritual guide, and Terry Riley, the musical inspiration for the song's iconic opening synth riff. Honourable mention: Won't Get Fooled Again 🙅‍♂️🤡🔁 Behind Blue Eyes ↩️🟦👁 Bargain 💸🤝 The Song is Over 🎵⏹️ 3½ / 5

In high school when I found this, Going Mobile was quite the inspiration. I dreamed of decking out a van to make it livable and travel with a few trusted friends like many did, but it also shines on Keith Moon’s insane drumming, which would inspire me heavily when I'd pick up the drums five years later. Still blows my mind that you can just play really crazy for two bars and then just hit the snare and stop for a bit, just creates a really sick vibe with such simple playing. A real master of keeping you on your feet. Besides that song, the dramatic intro, and banger ending, I didn’t feel too crazy about the rest.

Another I liked more than I expected. I wrote about it in my journal already.

were some of the songs not already on another album i got here?

Meget fint album.

A decent 3, I think. Fun at times, boring radio rock at times. Probably would've sounded a whole lot better in the 70s.

first listen recognizable but not that into it

Might be the first who album I’ve got. Intrigued and excited from reading some of the reviews, and also glad to have the opportunity of a full album of theirs. Felt like it took a while to get the bangers again, after a great opener but maybe the strongest finish to an album known!! Wasn’t as blown away as expected or as others are. And they ripped off Limp Bizkit man! Smh (3.5)

The first song makes it to my playlist. The cover art is great. Even behind blue eyes is iconic. But I would leave the rest behind.

This was a very long album, but it was overall quite nice. I only knew two songs but the overall vibe was quite nice.

I find everything in this record to be incredibly inoffensive: the singing, the riffs, the drums, the melodies, the lyrics... everything. It is not bad. I certainlly didn't mind it and I can't say I was tired or bored while listening to it, but I also didn't care. So yes, it gets a 3 stars out of pity. Finally, I'll add a couple of things so the review isn't too bare bones. One, I'm worried about anyone whose partner is so dangerous that they need a minigun and a tank. Two, Pete Townshend is a jerk for not caring about the environment.

Really enjoyed Baba O'Reilly, the rest was ok

Great opening track, but the rest was nothing special. I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion but I actually prefer Limp Bizkit's cover of behind blue eyes.

Obviously this has some classics and maybe it's a grower but didn't excite me.

crazy how many of these songs have been in commercials. i wonder if that's what the who expected when they created this album.

Big ballsy emotions.

The name of this album is basically what I say everyday with this challenge. Baba O’Riley is an all timer but this album didn’t really do enough to convince me that they are more than a greatest hits type of band. This album started very strongly, and it ended very strongly, but it was a bit middling in the middle.

Better than I thought it would be

- good album, some absolute standouts throughout the whole thing - some other songs were just ok - i had a good time listening to it - 70s classic rock

Carried pretty heavily by Baba O'Reily and Behind Blue Eyes. Going Mobile and My Wife are pretty decent tracks.

Wow! This was so 80s I couldn't believe my ears. Roger Daltery has a very off-putting jock singing voice and the whole thing was way too bombastic for my taste. Keith Moon's drumming is aces, though.

One of the most book-ended albums I've ever listened to.
