Reviews (page 9 of 13)
I think this album has great openers and ending, with Baba O'Riley being an absolute banger. The middle is a bit of a slog to get through. However, the fantastic bookends means I'm definitely going to revist this. Far better than previous Tommy album we had. Highlights: Baba O'Riley Bargain Behind Blue Eyes Won't Get Fooled Again
Well it's a classic isn't it! The start of Baba O'Riley gives me chills every time. What a song! They're legends for a reason. Just really really great perfectly structured rock songs
this album really does hit different. baba & behind blue are just too fucking good. won’t get fooled again! are you kidding me! almost a 5 tbh
Too long
This is a Who album I can actually see myself coming back to on a regular basis, doesn't really sound much their other stuff I've heard so far tbh. Cool use of synth, definitely some banger songs too.
Great album, the spine chilling Behind Blue Eyes is such a beautiful/ugly song and probably their best. The rest is excellent too. A low 4.
Enjoyable. I liked the hits and the other stuff was fi-ine-ish. For once having the 2.5 hour extended edition with live concerts and such added to my enjoyment. But it was mostly background music as I got in with my day. Maybe if have been a mod if I were born at the right time.
This is the best album by the Who that we've gotten thus far. "Baba O'Riley" is my favorite song of theirs, and "Bargain," "Behind Blue Eyes," and "Won't Get Fooled Again" are classics (although the latter overstays its welcome a bit). I suspect this'll end up being my favorite Who album.
Bien.
the ones you know are the stand outs here, but the rest is pretty good too!
Not everything is quite on the masterful level of sonic scope and ambition shown in the opener, but every song has incomparable songwriting and unmatched emotional honesty for the era. The album's formula has been oft-replicated but never quite matched. A superb effort.
Baba O'Riley is iconic and Behind Blue Eyes is the other hit. First track of side 2 (Getting in Tune) stood out.
Awesome
It’s a classic for a reason
Some great songs and flow to this album, I think my favorite part of The Who is the more adventurous sonic textures and sounds they sprinkled throughout the album. It’s funny to me that this was considered “Hard Rock” but it makes sense for the times.
This was one of my favorite albums when I was about 16 years old. John Entwhistle and Keith Moon were big influences for me. A brooding, bluesy, hard rock n roll album with art-rock leanings that eventually exposed me to prog and more experimental music. Go give 'Terry Riley's A Rainbow in Curved Air & Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band'. I'm actually glad the Tommy sequel didn't quite work out for this album because what happened instead is a tighter and more focused set of songs. There is a spiritual theme going on fueled by the influence of Meher Baba from Townsend as part of the original Lifehouse project. You need to dig for it a little but when it pops up it's encredibly heartfelt. I really enjoy the ballads, The Song Is Over and Getting In Tune, which make great use of piano. The latter gets into gospel territory by the climax. Behind Blue Eyes seems to be a cry for help (all the band members at this point were in terrible emotional states) and really hits hard. If I have to fault this album, then I wish they had decided to use another Lifehouse song in place of Going Mobile. Overall though, I had a lot fun coming back to this. 4.5
Me like the who
Contains multiple all-time classic radio play hits with obviously amazing drumming from Moon. Vocals also a highlight as is the songwriting
Some classics on this album
In my memory, indeed the best Who album, but today I could not fully appreciate it despite multiple listens. Several 5 star songs but also several songs midway like The Song is Over that are less special.
Not a punishment to hear this a couple of times. Behind blue eyes is the highlight.
This was a hard album for me to rate. It’s incredibly bookended; Baba O’Reilly is iconic but slightly overplayed, Bargain is underrated and a great song, and Behind Blue Eyes and Won’t Get Fooled Again are absolute classics of the hard rock genre. Everything in between is just ok with some decent moments. But overall I can’t give this less than 4.
My favorite Who album (up there with Live at Leeds). Roger Daltrey in prime form and Townsend wailing.
Every song’s a hit?????
a fabulous album.
With an unstoppable display of power and the most solid rhythm section in (the now-coined) classic rock, The Who brings what most people (me included) consider their magnum opus: "Who's Next." This album is legendary. From the cover (mocking Kubrick's 2001 Obelisk) to the song list (all killer, no filler), every piece has stood the test of time. Musically, the album is a roller coaster with epic ups (Baba o'Riley, Won't Be Fooled Again) and dramatic downs (Love Ain't for Keeping, Behind Blue Eyes), with energetic vocals and fierce guitar licks. I can definitely see many bands drinking from this well during the 70s and 80s. Personally, I do not have many stories to tell. Not a lot of bonding with it. I guess it is one of those albums that make a solid impact during adolescence, and I listened to it later in my life.
(only listened to the original version, not all of the nonsense repeats on Spotify)
The Who, one of the original groups that could thoroughly entertain an audience for a full gig, they were great showmen and great musicians. This album has a couple of strong anthems to start and finish with, and a splattering of above average mediocrity in the middle, but all delivered with a rocking beat from Keith Moon on drums. Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't get Fooled Again, we're already on my Spotify playlists that I still play today, and I think that's the key thing to The Who, they produced music with longevity, 50 years later and people still choose to listen.
A classic album, great sound
Best Song: Behind Blue Eyes. This one ekes out the victory only because of the absolutely perfect way that Roger Daltry sings the line, "And if I swallow anything evil, stick your finger down my throat. Worst Song: My Wife. Bit of a dud in an otherwise stacked album. Overall: The best Who album by a mile. Feels like the prototypical "classic rock" album. Absolutely chock full of hits, all with a unique and characteristic style. All the band members are also flying high here, giving the sense that you're listening to four musicians at the peak of their abilities.
This album hits you hard with baba o'reilly. But then it Is wains again Till you get to behind blue eyes. All I know it's a great record
Great album, haven’t listened to it the whole way through in a while
LP
Nice
Third album by The Who that I've gotten so far. Best one yet. Turns out I know a bunch of Who songs. Like 4 or 5 tracks off this album, I just didn't realize they were by them. This was a good album though. Felt like they were creating on this one, rather than the earlier albums I got sounded kinda off the shelf.
Meet the new boss etc etc
All the reviews that said this album is one of the best lied to you. Same with the people who said it was absolute garbage. This album is good, not amazing, not terrible, good. I hate that I'm giving this four stars because it deserves 3.5, a 7/10. It's better than a 3, but worse than a 4. All the songs were good, and I like they were willing to try different, even if the end result wasn't great in my opinion. This is an album that everyone must listen to, but it will not be an album everyone will enjoy.
Four of the best rock songs ever written, surrounding four songs that are just pretty good.
Only rating 4 for Behind Blue Eyes and Baba O'Riley. The whole middle of the album is meh.
Kinda over it, but this is excellent stuff and the best Who album
A wonderful rock album by any measure: play it end to end, and there's absolutely no filler - all tracks have energy and great narrative voice. The first and last tracks deservedly attract most attention and iconic status.
I quite enjoyed this album. I was really surprised that I recognized so many songs on this album. Despite missing out of the opportunity to really see them live earlier in life, (due to a paper doll obsession), I got to make connections to all the songs I didn't even know were theirs this time around.
I had to listen to this more than once and I'm still not 100% sure of my rating. This album starts great and has some real moments in it. It's well performed and I did enjoy it so I'm go to stick with my gut and give it a 4.
Kind of the quintessential Who album. Joe Pera would be proud
Love The Who and though I think Tommy vastly eclipses this album due to the overarching concept, the songs here are super solid and stand up on their own.
Bargain 🔥
A great rock record that’s ultimately not bogged down by an over-complex concept like some other The Who releases. Three of their best and most iconic singles are on here, and a lot of the other tracks are great too, though the double-hit of Getting In Tune and Going Mobile are a bit of a low point
"Baba O'Riley" para empezar, luego "Bargain" con otras como "My wife" o "The song is over" con un sonido tan característico de los 70 a la vez que vigente más de 50 años después.
If a 4.5 existed I'd rate it that
Starts with Baba O’Riley and ends with Won’t Get Fooled Again. What more is there to say.
Really great. Powerful in a meaningful way (as opposed to cheesy or cringeworthy "empowering" music). Torn between 4 and 5
Classic rock is classic but Baba O’Riley is something else.
A very good classic rock album. Some of the songs in the middle felt a little filler-ish, but they had some great riffs and the like. Can't say this is my favourite rock album, but it was still a good listen. Favourite: Baba O'Riley
Very good
Stor rock, psykedelisk, stemningsfyldt, velkomponeret
Solid throughout.
oh le bon rock n roll ça yee haw
Long songs make me reflect on 'modern' music and how we have moved away from experiments to formulae. I love the way they have made his lead vocal sound, it's at the front of the mix and still sounds a bit rugged and raw. The songs all have an ending - a proper big build up and ending, like you would have live. I am surprised how many of the songs sound familiar. It's like a big musical soup with all sorts of chunks, floating about in a broth that hasn't been reduced much. The drumming really at the forefront - it's its own instrument on this album, not just a way to keep time. "My ears have heard a whole lot of music, and like me you've heard a bit too much." Great album.
Loved it
Listening to this album reminded me that I used to put it on when I was a kid (must have been under 10) and so it just resonated more. This already was a amazing album but I enjoyed the fuck out of it. Plus, the 3 top songs just felt better within the album.
I always think the Who had a blessed career. The Kinks were better. Townshend is not a guitar God, Daltrey has a limited voice. (Moon was great though) The album projects were overblown. This is the only album I owned as a young person and is probably their best. (Full of offcuts i believe) A stronger set of songs.
The boy who album that I’ve listened to multiple times. This is easily their best and for a band that’s known for dragging songs out and having lengthy albums this is pretty similar. They fill that time with hard guitar riffs and fantastic piano chords. Overall this is a fantastic classic rock album that everyone needs to hear. 7.9/10
Whenever I heard Baba O'Riley, I want to immediately listen to it again.
Oikein mainio.
I was happy to see Who's Next pop up as a recommendation. I've listened to several albums from the Who before, and to Who's Next at least a few times. All of the tracks are good on this album. There weren't any tracks on the album that I'm tempted to skip and more than half of the tracks I'd come back to own my own. So many familiar tracks from this album, with perhaps my two all time favorite tracks from the Who opening and closing out the album. I can forgive CSI for using "Won't Get Fooled Again". I've loved that track since I first heard it - such energy and Keith Moon's drumming is an education in percussion. John Entwistle's bass lines deserve some praise too, even on the mellower tracks like "Behind Blue Eyes".
Good album by The Who. Songs slap, but not every song slaps as hard. 4/5
Jackson Pollock: First track fire, second track meh, behind blue eyes good. Not my fav vocalist but like the vibe. Heading for a strong 4 it seems. Favs: Track #1 Behind blue eyes Lows: Overall: Verging on too rocky for me, it remains apparent that there are songs of strong innovation and creativity. Also some that sound very good. However, definitely feels bloated with a lot of songs that don't sound thaat interesting. Baby O'Riley and Behind Blue Eyes are big highlights. Won't get fooled again also appealed on first listen. A solid 4/5. It feels as though I could end up liking 4-5 tracks on this thing but the whole album wont be on rotation like others.
Splendid
The use of The Who as the theme song to so much CSI Blah made me want to run away, but listening with headphones was revelatory. Excellent stuff
4/5
Some very good songs
Much like Queen, you can't go wrong with Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend, Keith Moon and the bassist... The Who is an iconic band from that era. While I don't rate them as highly as I do Queen, this album is pretty good.
Quite the banging open and closing bookends. There is a bit of a lull in terms of tracks in the middle, but that's also probably emphasized by how good the opening/closing tracks are. Probably a 5 but more of a 4 based on the lull for me.
The Who are a band with a stacked catalogue and this album comes in at number 3 for me. Tommy and Who are you beat this album out for me and if it wasn't for Baba O'reilly I think this album would be pretty forgettable. The album has jams but it is missing melody and attention grabbing hooks when needed to make it a great album. I discovered another track on this listen that is a great song that never hooked me before and that was Getting In Tune reminding me of some great Paul Mccartney solo tunes. All in all the album is a good listen but just feels like its missing a direction that you would get on albums like tommy but it is definitely not a bad album and I will continue to enjoy the few hits from this album in the future.
I've never really been much of a fan of The Who but I had a Pearl Jam bootleg back in high school with a cover of "Baba O'Riley" on it. A couple of years later this album came up in a 3 CDs for $10, or some such, deal so I picked it up and actually listened to it quite a lot in my early twenties. It's a very solid album. "The Song is Over" and "Behind Blue Eyes" are both songs I find myself humming inside my head at random moments through the years, but I don't necessarily seek them out. "Baba O'Riley" still rips and always will!
This was a solid album from The Who. Fav songs: Baba O’Riley, The Song Is Over, Getting In Tune, Going Mobile, Behind Blue Eyes Least fav: My Wife
Good
Some of the most epic songs ever written. Won’t Get Fooled Again goes down as an all-time greatest album opener. Even though a few of the middle ballads start off a bit dull, every one ends with at least some crazy crescendo ending.
This is the Who's best album IMO. It's bookended by two of their best songs, and Behind Blue Eyes is also right up there. I'm glad they've finally said goodbye to their Mod roots and have incorporated their signature Proto-Prog /hard rock sound, complete with the use of an Arp synthesizer. I also like the nod and wink to minimalist composer Terry Riley in both the song name, "Babo O'Riley" and also the repetitive and hypnotic beats that Riley pioneered. One complaint, or maybe it's just an observation is that the Who seem to recycle much of their music so a lot of their songs sound alike - eg Babo O'Riley and Won't get fooled again have a very similar high tempo keyboards, but they do mix it up enough to keep it interesting. Tell me who hasn't channeled Keith Moon and played air drums at the 7:30 mark of Won't get fooled again and then screamed "Yeaaaahhhhhhhh!", its truly an iconic rock moment. Not to sound sexist but this album is truly masculine sounding, everything is right in your face and amped up - Moon's drumming, Entwistle's bass Townshend's guitar and keyboards and Daltrey's screaming and booming vocals. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
long ass album didn’t finish it ngl but i’m a fan of the who. iconic band and sound and i would go back to finish the album
Great listen, I was skeptical going in but I can see how this album influenced an entire generation of rock music. Perfect for a casual listen to while doing anything else. Leaves me wanting more
This album is bookended with some FANTASTIC songs - Behind Blue Eyes is a personal favorite. However, several songs in the middle really drag it down - it made the album lack cohesion for me and the "wordiness" of the songs overshadowed the music. Definitely some high high-points, but some low low-points
- Heard this before - Classic album - Think how good the opener and closer are makes me like the rest a bit less - Fav songs: Baba O'Riley, Won't Get Fooled Again, The Song is Over
Pretty sweet classic album. A few very popular bangers that even I knew, with still some gems hidden in between. A few disappointments that bring the track list down but all in all it’s quite good. 7/10
What can i say its a classic I cannot hear behind blue eyes in the same light after that damn limp bizkit cover tho
some classics
Super fun album to listen to. So many of the songs I instantly recognized even though I expected to know way less going into it.
I wonder how many other album covers here depict the aftermath of urination. But given we're here for the music: This one's probably the best Who album, yes, but like the rest of them the bursts of genius (i.e., the opening track and the 2 closing tracks) are surrounded by seas of mediocrity. Eventually, I decided to be generous with my rating, on account of Won't Get Fooled Again. Guess I was fooled, again.
I listened to the first two songs lol, and they hit.
Overall goed
Great album
One of my personal favorite albums of the rock genre in this decade. There’s an indescribable energy from top to bottom with this band that I’m certain translated beautifully to the live setting. A definite recommend.
Decent
A lot of classic songs in here, no skips tbh.
Very strong album showcasing The Who at their height. Also has one of there greatest hits, Won’t Get Fooled Again
sonzao, na primeira ja percebe-se
8.5/10 F.t: behind blue eyes
A few good hits, some decent deep tracks
Great atuff
Oh fuck - I know for SURE I'm not finding a version of this without 38 bonus tracks attached to it. But alright, the album itself, the one that was released with just 9 tracks on it? That's some solid work. Some real solid work. Not a lot of downtime on this one. Baba O'Riley is a good one, of course. Bargain is tough to listen to without thinking about it in that car commercial, but it's still a strong one. On side one, only My Wife doesn't stand out for me. On side two, it's Getting In Tune. Otherwise, it's all strong stuff. Not a perfect album - I'm not really emotionally moved by much of it - but strong enough for a 4, no problem.
DUNNNHH! DA-DUNNNHH!! I don't own a copy of Who's Next but I know three-quarters of the tracks. It's one of the classic rock big beasts, and it's not hard to see why. This represents what is probably The Who's most focused collection of songs - no loopy concepts or attempts to replicate a commercial radio station here. It's a damn fine collection too, full of light and shadow, brooding and catharsis. As an outfit nobody quite sounds like The Who - Moon's questing, hyperactive drumming meshing with the whirling, kinetic bass playing courtesy of the Ox and Townshend's slashing, wiry guitar. Above it all Daltrey plays the lost boy or the rock god as the song demands. There's nary a step wrong here. No dated production techniques, no misguided attempts at genre tunes, no awkward integration of modish instrumentation. Just high quality, thoughtful and - at times - exhilarating rock.
Another classic rock staple for a reason. There just ain’t much fat on this meat. It’s all the prime cuts. Pound for pound, it’s sliced perfectly. I truly don’t know if I’m talking about this album anymore or a sub from Jersey Mike’s. But yeah. I like pretty much all of it and it’s my favorite album from this band. Tommy and Quadrophenia are fine, but nope. This is the one for me. Can you imagine all the licensing fees they have made off of these tunes in the past 20 years? I can’t imagine it’s not legitimately in the millions. (For C.S.I. alone, maybe.) So, who’s next?
good
When listening "Baba O'Riley", it's so familiar. "My Wife" is really interesting. I like this album.
After the success of their double album rock opera Tommy in 1969, work had begun on another ambitious rock opera under the working title Lifehouse. Pete Townshed seemingly had a good idea of what rock music was in the new decade, and had ambitious ideas for what they could do for the medium. A lot of this involved interactions between the band and the audience, which didn't go as planned during proof-of-concept concerts. After much difficulty, Lifehouse was scrapped, though material from the project would be used for... Who's Next, recorded and released in 1971, marked a positive move for the band (in my opinion). What was once a band that wrote mediocre mod songs and spotty rock operas was now a band that could just take the best parts of a handful of songs and squeeze it into a juicy hard rock album. Not every song on here hits the same level of quality (there is a notable lull as side A goes on), but most of the songs warrant giving the full album a listen. Finally, The Who have an album that accurately matches their musical skills. Some people will say most of the album is filler but I beg to disagree. Sure songs like Bargain and Getting in Tune aren't as good as Baba O'Riley or Won't Get Fooled Again, but I contest that they deserve an equal spot on the album. Truth be told I was always pulling for The Who. Listening to their earlier stuff, I was hoping to finally hear what was so great about them in their albums. The truth is that they were always great, but you weren't able to see it through just their albums. You had to sidestep and see the real Who at their most concise, most concrete talent. Keith Moon's movement around the drums. Roger Daltrey's passionate vocals. Pete Townshend's forward-think ideas and songs. John Entwistle. Come vacation at a Teenage Wasteland today!
Absolute classic. Would rate it 5/5 if it wouldn’t have all this bonus live and re-remastered tracks.
I can no longer listen to Won’t Get Fooled Again without hearing Conan’s intro: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Od5mgxiZkos
Another band I need to listen to more. In the past I have only gotten pieces of this album and never fully appreciated it. Without reading the wiki entry, it feels like a more complete concept album than the other Who ones. The flow between the tracks and the modes is fantastic. Now to work out the full story
Fantastic! Maybe the best album by the Who
good
Good, and enjoyable. A lot of classics on here.
For most part, I find The Who quite overrated. Their big ideas just seemed outsized compared to their average level of talent. The result was usually just not all that interesting. This album seems to have been their best though. On a technical level it has a lot more to offer than say, the preceding album, Tommy. As a result, their big ideas come across in a much more convincing way and the album is a lot more interesting and enjoyable. Baba O'Riley in particular is a standout track.
Ça me rajeunit pas........
big up 16 yo luluze it's all downhill from here
A well crafted and artistically honest set of songs, that I really enjoyed, even if Roger Daltrey is a bit annoying
Enjoyed that, some absolute classics
Firstly, who does not particularly enjoy "Baba O'Riley", "Behind Blue Eyes" or "Won't Get Fooled Again"? These are songs that have entered the pop culture lexicon, and probably will remain there as long as we still get to listen them. Still, while those three make the album unique there does seem to be a lack of why this album matters for the purposes of 1001 as a whole. The album doesn't carry the operatic elements of "Tommy" or even a significant theme that carries through the album. That being said, the album is fine, it is The Who, and they rock as they do, but for some reason there was more to expect here.
Probably the most accessible album by The Who. Almost every song charted, and it's difficult to stop yourself from singing along.
4/5. Some songs like song is over and bargain are pretty mid. Every other song is very good.
It’s not my kind of rock!
Really good album, Baba O'Riley and Behind Blue Eyes are amazing!
Not bad but not my style. Classic though
Þessi plata er í raun alveg stórkostlegt listaverk!
Almost no skips
I was so happy to listen to this album while I was having a work from home day so Mike could enjoy it with me, too. Such an amazing submission, particularly in the opening and closing tracks. I don’t know what more can be said 😅
What an excellent album. Was excited to see this one pop up. So many good tracks. Besides the obvious ones, I also enjoyed "Baby Don't You Do It" and "Bargain"
Behind Blue Eyes is the bad man song!?!?!
This is a jammer. Really enjoyed this album.
Classic album with the band at its peak.
Always forget how good The Who is!
I wanted to be a big Who fan back in college. These days I'm just okay with liking their hits. And they've got some great hits. I've just never really been a big fan of Roger Daltrey's voice.
• Baba O’Riley is good purely because it reminds me of Joe Pera lol. The solo at the end was very unexpected but I dig it. • Love Ain’t For Keeping has a nice feeling. • The Song Is Over began slow but once it picked up it got much better. It could maybe be about a minute shorter. • Getting In Tune’s bass lick(?) in the intro sounds very cool. The bass continues to have a high volume throughout the rest of the song, giving it a unique vibe to the rest of the album. • Won’t Be Fooled Again is another song I already knew and I like it a fair bit. • Won’t Be Fooled Again should’ve been the closer, but the two songs after it have enough to warrant their inclusion • The album has the roots of a lot of classic rock. • No songs really outstay their welcome Favourite song: Won’t Get Fooled Again
Didn't know this is where "YEEAAAHHH" came from
The Classic 'classic rock' album
A near masterpiece bookended by two classics. Also contains some all timer hits, but has a few subpar tracks as well.
I liked this a lot but I don't think it's one of the best albums ever.
A straightforward 4. Potentially it could be more really...
Damn, I don't think I have ever listened to an album by the Who all the way straight through, this was impressive... Baba O'Reilly, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again and I always kinda like Getting in Tune ...I know most of these but I know I have never sat and listened to them like this. Impressive stuff.
Classic
Good listen. I haven’t listened to too much 70s rock but this seems pretty classic.
An album that leans heavily on the thundering rock that the band rely on. The opening track is a blast yet the rest of the album does hit highs with key signatures from guitar riff, drum fills, bass rhythm, and piano rock and roll that give the who their familiar sound. The concluding chapter of the album is one of their greatest ballads which bookends the album perfectly, yearning for earlier days of revolution in the air while maturing to accept the times ahead.
Yllätävän mukiinmenevä albumi, kyllä.
Good album opens with a heater. Classic
Clean sound, great guitar riffs, nice drum sound
It good
Listened Before? N I actually really liked this album. It was very easy to listen to and includes a few CLASSIC songs in "Baba O'riley", "Won't Get Fooled Again", and "Behind Blue Eyes". The latter of the three was ruined for me by Limp Bizkit back in the 90's, but the other two have definitely stood the test of time. The rest of the album is fairly unknown, but of high quality. I may listen to this again. Added to Library? N Songs added to Playlist: Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'riley.
A classic for someone who wants to discover them. Favorite: Love ain't for keeping & Getting in tune
An awful lot of good stuff going on here. Without the usual Who hokum, its a near classic.
never understood why The Who are held up as one of the all-time greats. This album makes a good case, however. Enjoyed it a lot, to my surprise!
One of those albums where I go "Damn I've heard all of this out of order". It is good, but I get the sense (and know when reading the wikipedia page) that this could have had more of a strong narrative direction.
There’s a couple duds on here but overall The Who’s best album. Not sure there’s a better first/last track combo. Wicked.
The first and last two songs on this album are off the charts. "Baba O'Riley" especially being one of the best songs ever written I think. "Won't Get Fooled Again" is also pretty high up there. The middle is pretty meh though. They try to get deep with "Getting Mobile" and "Getting in Tune" but the end product is pretty corny. That middle is bad enough to drop it half a star. 4.5 stars.
Quite good. Two of the CSI intro themes came from this LP, I thought only one of them did.
I never really got the hype about The Who, never really got their concept albums. But this is a solid album of rock songs, opening and closing with some of the best tracks we have heard from The Who. If there were more albums like this, I would get the love.
The final position for this album really comes down to tracks 3-6 because 1-2 and 5-7 are quite good. Baba O’Riley is an all time banger. On the second listen, tracks 3-6 hold up well.
This is where The Who went from British Invasion stars to Arena-Rock mega stars. I like The Who but somehow never before listened to Who's Next from beginning to end. It went as I expected. It's a great album that will never usurp My Generation, Quadrophenia and The Who Sell Out as the Band's best, in my opinion. Too overplayed for that to ever happen. Favourite songs; Getting in Tune and Behind Blue Eyes. 4 🌟
Awesome album, never heard the whole thing before but was familiar with a few of the more famous songs. I didn't think I was going to like it but I was very pleasantly surprised.
Enjoyable.
The Who's greatest album
There’s a couple albums like this on here where my brain lights up when it hears the recognizable stuff, and then doesn’t retain the rest of the music. Baba O’Riley is indeed really good, but I’m struggling to take an honest accounting of “ok is it genuinely so much better than the rest of the album or are you just really familiar with this” like “do you think these songs are good or bad based on radio exposure, or did the ones you liked get radio exposure because they were the good shit?” I don’t trust the second one as an explanation even if it feels true.
I'm not a fan of the Who and particularly Townshend, but I can't deny the quality here.
Great album
This us where The Who went from British Invasion stars to Arena-Rock mega stars. I like The Who but somehow never before listened to Who's Next from beginning to end. It went as I expected. It's a great album that will never usurp My Generation, Quadrophenia and The Who Sell Out as the Band's best. Too overplayed for that to ever happen. Favourite songs; Getting in Tune and Behind Blue Eyes. 4 🌟
Love this album. No words can describe how beautiful this album is and there isn’t an one bad song on the album. 4.5
Never really listened to The Who but loved parts of this.
Having already listened to this album and the rest of The Who's music, I was delighted to relisten to this one, and MAN had I forgotten how many classics this one had. I feel like many of the songs are overshadowed by Baba O'Riley, which in itself is also a good song. This is a classic album and I love it. Favorite songs: This Song is Over, Won't Get Fooled Again
Solid album. Among The Who's best. Heard it so many times, though, I probably only caught half of it even though I played it end-to-end. Didn't add - already own.
a versão de behind blue eyes do limp bizkit é melhor
This album is so good! 70s rock fucks. This feels so complex and serious while retaining a really great since of humor. I love the mix. I cant believe i’ve never listened to the Who that much.
First time hearing this album.
Baba O'Riley has to be the best opener to an album ever. Nope - the keyboard changes in the first five seconds of Baba O'Riley has to be the best album opener ever. Then the chords kick in, drums next etc. The whole album just gets better and better throughout. Keith Moon's drumming on My Wife is class. Note Glyn Johns' involvement once again. Outstanding.
Fire. Baba O Riley one of the best songs of all time
Solid. Lots of recognizable songs.
All your favourite CSI intros in one place. Solid album.
Some of the songs went on too long, but otherwise an enjoyable listen. I enjoyed the different renditions in one album.
A really good album. There's much to like an not a lot to dislike. A classic for a reason.
Good album :)
groovy
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Hanging tree,
So many great songs and memories. Behind blue Eyes always takes me back to a different place
even if you don't like this album, hearing the CSI scream at the end is worth it
3.5
Still not totally a huge fan of The Who, but, some undeniable classics. Also, one of the best album closures of all time.
Was looking forward to this like the improved next show following the previous album, which didn’t live up to the sound of ‘The who’ I had in mind. “Won’t get fooled again” is amazing. I assumed Limp Bizkit wrecked ‘Behind Blue Eyes’, but even the original is pretty shitty.
Strong start, strong end, and bangers in between.
Classico
Beautiful voice. Classic tracks. An all around fun vibe
Great album, fun upbeat, so many hits
4/5
Lots of classics on this album. Some unknowns as well. It started off really strong and finishes really strong. It lags a little in the middle. It was a good album.
Somehow had not listened to this album in its entirety but have heard all the pieces separately. Baba o’riley which has felt stale for a while gained new life for me as the intro song to this epic collection. Strong bass lines, drum solos and vocals throughout and experimental sounds woven in. Behind Blue Eyes, the song is over, won’t get fooled again 4.4
Wow! This must have been played to me heaps when I was little. Thanks, Dad! That opening track is magnificent.
I'd gladly listen to The Who I'd gladly say this ain't half bad To hear this, I'd say it makes me pretty glad I'd pay...a bit? just to get Who's Next I'd work part of my life and I will To win you, I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed (scratch that) - but I'd call that a bargain The best album the Who ever had? The best they ever had
these tracks feel so alive
An exceptional rock album. The Who are constantly in motion, driven by Moon's tripping-tumbling drums in large part, but also Entwhistle's rubberised bass lines, Townsend's whirlwind alternating between hard strums and high solos, all topped off with Daltry's stop-start-then-let-it-rip vocals. Very occasionaly this makes the tracks blend one into the other, across the middle section - but when it gives you your Baba O'Rileys and your (excellent) Won't Get Fooled Agains who can resist?
4.5/5 That's their best album, very good!
It's not my favorite Who era/album, but it still has some real classic bangers ("Won't Get Fooled Again" is iconic!)
I see why it’s on the list, but I don’t think it’s something I’d listen to very often
Good album, but not a fan enough for all the live stuff. Which sounds just like the recording studio stuff anyway, they that good.
I’m not the highest Who fan. But, still, this is a pretty good album
A very good exemplary of a genre I do not really like. Though I liked the baroque intro of Baby O'Riley and also Behind Blue Eyes is just a wonderful song.
baba
A Classic
who is this band?
4 - pretty much for Baba on its own
Strong stuff here. The two well known epics backed up by some interesting songs which show of the versitility of the band.
Shame he's an absolute whopper
Some all-time classics on this. I enjoyed the lesser-known tracks too like "the song is over" too!
Classic. Massive classic. Will go on my vinyl bucket list.
Baba O'Riley and Behind Blue Eyes probably give this album three stars alone, and a second listen got me into Bargain as well. It's a phenomenal album, but I can't say anything else really blew me away, so 4 stars Already Saved: Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes Saved After Listening: Bargain*
Saved Prior: Baba O'Riley Off Rip: Bargain, The Song Is Over, Getting In Tune, Behind Blue Eyes Cutting Edge: My Wife Overall Notes: This is a masterpiece. Not usually a massive fan of mainstream rock, but this for sure earned its reputation as one of the greatest albums of all time. Baba O'Riley is one of the best album openers of all time, and though I didn't really get the hype for the closer Won't Get Fooled Again I respect the hell out of this album.
It is The Who what else can you say one of the greatest rock bands of all time almost as many hits as the Beatles incredible music one of my favorite bands
What a great album. You gotta love when the bookends are just two great songs. I can't believe I'm just now hearing "The Song is Over." That one's underrated
Pretty good album. I really enjoy piano and keyboard mixed with guitars, and this album is chock-full of that. Each song is different and unique from each other and many are bangers. My main gripe is that the two popular songs heavily outshine the other ones. Favorite track: Baba O'Riley
Pretty good rock, some very familiar songs 8/10
Mix of high-adrenaline hard rock and slower, more sentimental numbers. Both starts and ends with an absolute banger. Although “The Song Is Over” is probably objectively the best track on the album
Some classics. Some car commercials. Great in how they go mellow to rocking.
Pretty good. Probably will listen again
Actually much better than I expected. Baba O'Riley and Wont get fooled again stand out. Lead singer sounds like Paul McCartney
Heard before
Classic album, so many songs I didn't know I knew. Every song larger than life, great production and engineering. Definition of "classic rock."
I mean it's got some good songs, but it's just regular classic rock to me. Good but not great.
Baba o'riley is a masterpiece, the rest of the album is fine...
Baba O’Riley: amazing Bargain: excellent Love ain’t for keeping: very good My wife: good The song is over: excellent Getting in tune: good Going mobile: above average Behind blue eyes: amazing Won’t get fooled again: very good Pure and easy: good Baby don’t you do it: average Naked eye: good Water: good Too much of anything: very good I don’t even know myself: good 7.5/10
Really great album - holds up
I haven't given The Who a deep dive. The only album I've listened to in the past was Tommy, which I do like. This album is pretty damn good too.
20th May 2021 Listened to this whilst the awards were going on for the southern h conference. Really good, they've accelerated their sound and broadened their scope. Baba O'Reilly one of the all time greats
some great songs, a very good album
Classic Who
Listened already
Nota:7/10
A trip down memory lane.
Really good cohesive album from start to finish
Middle part of the album is not as great, but the album has an incredibly strong start and end, which made The Who a cornerstone classic rock band.
I've never been especially crazy about this album. I love individual tracks on their own, but this has always felt like a Who album that happens to have their best songs rather than the best Who album.
Best Who album? Great music!
Very good music with memorable riffs and lyrics and some absolute bangers like Baba o Riley
Baba o'reilly alone give this a 4, not as stand out as other iconic albums however, maybe 3.75
I’ll be interested to see what the comparison is between how many albums come from which country because this feels like an invasion. Who’s next? The Who? I had a whole bit I was doing with this Abbott and Costello style but I started seeing the word Who too much and it lost its meaning. In any case, this is one group of tossers I’m more than happy to listen to. I really like this album and it has some bangers. One of the coolest album covers, with the fellas standing around a monolith (something doesn’t look right about the guy second from the right…maybe he is being affected by the monolith). The songs on this album remind me of my days as a lifeguard and in high school when I was jamming to all the classic rock. Not every song hits for me but my favs are obviously Baba O’Riley, Getting In Tune, Going Mobile, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won’t Get Fooled Again. This feels like the height of the who and maybe even for rock in general around this time. These are some of the most recognized songs especially Baba which goes by many names like Teenage Wasteland and was a blast to play on Rock Band. I loved this album and can’t wait for more classic rock pieces like this.
two songs to die for!
Too long
It's hard to believe this is the same band that made Tommy, but that's not a knock against either album: it's just a completely different style. This is a Zeppelin-esque hard rock album, and it certainly stands well enough to be compared to them. I wish I could give this 4 and a half stars, because it feels too good for a 4 but lacks the je ne sais quoi that a true 5 needs.
Really enjoyed this album! Nothing wrong with a little bit of The Who while moving into a college dorm room.
actually had never heard this entire album, but what can I say? total dad rock/greatness.
Its good
Some great songs. Double album way too long to appreciate. First half was boss
Classic. Shame some of these have been so associated with other things for me (CSI). Interesting to hear some of the other tracks
I learned today that it's 'Baba O'Reilly', not 'Baby O'Reilly' Won't Get Fooled is really long
very good !
Every song sounds very similar apart from BBE, which is fine if you want to listen to The Who
Pretty good never really listened to The Who but glad I finally did
Short
29 Songs. Opens with classic Baba O'Riley (Teenage Wasteland) followed by Bargain (The Best I Ever Had). Won't Get Fooled Again's keyboard is unforgettable. Disc 2 is Live.
Classic album.
Pretty cool
Really good memorable singles from this album
Probably the best The Who album
I’ve heard a lot of the songs before. Those that I didn’t here were pretty good.
Rock in’ classically🎸
Vahvaa menoa ja komeaa soitantaa. Olispa päässyt 70-luvulla kokemaan livenä
Excelente
Great album.
Love this album.
Classsic
2/9 Wanderer music. Standou Tracks: Behind Blue Eyes, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Water, I Don’t Even Know Myself
Classic!
the album defintley has a lull in the middle, but many great songs here, and definitley a classic. I liked it better than Tommy. I really loved Bargain, which I wasnt familiar with before. Closer to a 3.5
Much mellower/more acoustic parts than I anticipated; this album is loaded with hits omg
Carried by the first and last track, middle was pretty forgettable
Dad rock
This is a good one. Less Stones cover band.
Amazing musicians but most of these songs do not grip me at all
Some definite classics here!
it was okay
Vette album cover
Good music, idk I just couldn’t emotionally get into some songs. I think it’s an album that grows on you but yeah.
6/10
Had the great hits but wasn’t as cohesive as I thought it would be. Still classic.
I must admit to myself that I am no longer the "wordsmith" that the site says I am. My reviews will be shorter. Why would I type so much when I know that no one else will see it? Except for Kid A. That one needed the long review so I could actually explain why I think it sucks. This one's alright. Nothing really stuck with me except for the last song. I was sitting there thinking "why does this sound so familiar..." and then Roger Daltrey goes "YEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!" and I went "ohhh that's why."
Baba O'Riley 10/10 Bargain 6/10 Love Ain't For Keeping 7/10 My Wife 7/10 my song is over 6/10 getting in tune 8/10 going mobile 7/10 behind blue eyes 9/10 wont get fooled again 10/10
I didnt give much attantion to the lyrics tbh but the sound really did not cought my interest and I coulnt put myself to be interested. İts prolly good but bot for me.
The record is nice, but besides the first and last track (which I've heard countless times before), the rest falls a bit short.
It's fine. kind of catchy, maybe a 3.25, tops.
I think The Who is just not for me. This album had some respectable hits but I just don’t really vibe with them. This actually makes me appreciate their first album a bit more as that felt a little more interesting to me.
I'm not that into The Who, don't really know why. I like Keith Moon's drumming and John Entwistle was pretty great too but they just don't excite or interest me much Bargain is probably my favourite for that spacey kind of element the synth adds (and it's also one of the few I haven't heard a million times already). My Wife is nice too Highlights: Bargain, My Wife
Alright. Not for me but not bad. Can see how it would be popular.
I think this is overrated. They're not stones level. The intro and outro are iconic, but it's just not my thing really
i don't have as much to say about this as i probably should because i don't have enough context to understand why this album is so revolutionary but.. i mean i liked it! that's something right fave track: bargain
