An album for ya' dad

Behind Blue Eyes => sehr schön. Die anderen plätschern so vor sich hin.

I keep feeling that I should love The Who. Most of the time I just have a grudging respect. I don’t know why. This opens and closes with a banger. The rest of the album is solid. I will never choose to sit down and listen to The Who. 3.5/5

I like The Who. This project is a nice introduction for me.

I always thought "The Bargain" was about grocery store coupons, but actually it's super romantic - the narrator is willing to murder for her/him. And that would be a bargain if that's all he has to do. Also, for the record, I do know what it's like to be behind blue eyes. I suspect that I do not fully appreciate this album because 1) it's been overplayed on the radio and 2) it's just not my jam. I agree with the sentiment of 'Going Mobile' but not the expression.

CSI 1971

Oh for what could have been: "Lifehouse is set in the near future in a society in which music is banned and most of the population live indoors in government-controlled "experience suits". A rebel, Bobby, broadcasts rock music into the suits, allowing people to remove them and become more enlightened." j/k sounds terrible

Probably the best The Who album, still only a couple of songs here that stand out… not my cup of tea.

Real dad music. I dont feel boy enough to like it tho. Anyways behind blue eyes and bargin were my fav

A good classic rock album. Baba O'Reilly is the epitome of the genre and it rocks. Rest of the album is pretty generic though.

I was excited when I saw this album pop up, but it just didn’t do it for me. Sure it’s a perfectly fine album but just didn’t work for me this morning.

Overall a good project that has held up incredibly well. Nothing super remarkable and I do find the biggest hits here a bit overplayed so those don't have the same impact as I'm sure they once did. Still, overall a fine album

Better than expected but I don’t particularly care for The Who.

A classic but not entirely my thing

Really cool bass lines and thoughtful chord structure. Got a little bored with it though in the second half

Good. 3 stars for drumming.

Bit long, 9 songs 47 mins?! But pretty fun

I would say saved by a few CLASSIC songs: Baba O’Riley and Won’t Get Fooled Again. I listened to the deluxe version on Amazon and found I enjoyed the New York session material better. More raw and loose. Those sessions made the produced material better.

One album. Two thirds of the Who tracks played on classic rock radio.

good classic stuff

Firm 3

Very good album. First half is bangers. Slows down for a couple of tracks, then ends triumphantly.

I liked Going Mobile the rest is played out too much on dad radio

3 stars, OK not great, easy listening

This was a pretty good record. Definitely Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again are both classic The Who and great tracks, the latter being one of my favourite songs ever from anyone. The rest of the album is less impressive though full of good grooves and. The track Behind Blue Eyes is such a great sounding song and it's such a shame the lyric is so terrible.

Certainly better than the bulk of Tommy and Quadrophenia with some strong rock tracks in Baba O’Reilly and Won’t Get Fooled Again but for me the highlight is Behind Blue Eyes where Daltrey’s vocals are right on it. The Who’s best album? Not sure.

it's ok. There are a couple of songs I like, but other than that, it's just average dad rock. Overall: 5.4/10 Favorite: Behind Blue Eyes 7.2/10

I ran out of time with this one but listened to most of it. The Who is fine, not so much my thing though. I feel this is an album I’ll have to come back to for a few more listens. Listens: 3/4 Fave Track: Behind Blue Eyes (I agree the Limp Bizkit version is a travesty) Rating: 3

It’s the who…

decent album. love the guitar!! listened to it while i made a card for my friend- it was a lot shorter than i thought. fav song is love ain't for keeping- it's a classic.

The three obvious ones are classic bangers but sadly the rest is a bit meh for me. Disappointing

This album could have just been straightforward rock & roll, but it was that and experimental, with great drum and synth parts. Iconic songs.

pretty good - baba o'riley is a cracker and My Wife was decent too

Some iconic songs but a lot of filler for me...

All of the songs felt very familiar, pretty good album. Feel like it would be better with multiple listens

Solid 2 opening songs, rest were easy to listen to but didn't jump out. Behind Blue Eyes seems way overrated, and Won't Get Fooled Again was a nice capstone to play out the album.

Skip tracks 4, 6 Well arranged songs. More epic than I typically like to listen to, but the quality is undeniable. Would not go out of my way to listen to this band. Good work, just not something I would put on a mix. Exhausted and bored after the first few tracks.

Couple strong songs, but mostly kinda boring. I guess i would listen again. 2.5

Lots of their big songs. But over all I didn't like it

Got them after led zeppelin and I thank that ruined the experience a bit. The drums don’t hit as hard, the vocals aren’t as raw and the production is a bit cleaner. I didn’t click with it. Favs - baba o’Riley ofc it’s a classic, the song is over is fantastic, behind blue eyes has some great harmonies, getting in tune is great as well. The album closes strong with won’t get fooled again. The rest are okay. It’s a light 3.

Is the Who cheesy? I don't think they aged as well as some. For such a loud band, they have a lot of acoustic

Loved the hits, rest seemed like fillees

ok old music sounds like old music genre is good

I love Baba O'Riley and Behind Blue Eyes but haven't ever rlly listened to anything else on this album. Classic opening on the first track, I love it. Lovely album, easy listen, timeless and will listen again. Really like The Who when it comes down to it.

3.5 stars

Good if not a bit cheesy in place, but im not sure if the cheese is due to me hearing these songs within different contexts. Think this would be great live, but on headphones it doesn't impress.

I scarily had to contemplate whether or not I only like Baba O’Riley because of One Direction. This record honestly didn’t excite me very much, even though there wasn’t much specifically that I found negative. The music and how it made me feel reminds me of The Eagles: none of the lyrics felt very special and the tracks came and went. Very solid and well put together, but not something that stands out to me. 5.5/10

Good record, proper journey of an album with some great songs on it

Three legendary hits, and 7 grandiose but forgettable songs

It was okay. Kinda zooned out... Behind blue eyes is still a banger.

Pretty decent

Rating: 6.5/10 Mixed bag album. Singles are all fantastic as well as Love Ain't For Keeping. Bargain and My Wife are good. The rest of the album is incredibly mediocre, Daltrey and company are not good singers which is made obvious by these songs, which are also severely lacking in melody and memorable riffs/moments.

Guter alter Rock, einige Hits

What an intro, rest was MID

Don’t have any emotional connection outside 2 hits but could be worse

YEAAAAAAAAAH meme is from Won't Get Fooled Again

This is the dawn of the arena rock sound that would take over the 70s. Who's Next has lots of experiments with sounds and production within fairly conventional rock song structures- from the synths of Baba O'Riley to the weird squirty fuzz guitar sounds and panning phaser lazer sounds on Going Mobile, to the recurrent pairing of big overdriven riffs with a bass-layer of folksy strumming acoustic guitars like on Behind Blue Eyes to the alternating close-harmonies and wailing vocal leads. Because so much of this has become classic rock radio cliche it's hard to listen with fresh ears, but Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again are still grab your attention demand you turn up the volume.

Some nice songs that I've definitely heard, nothing special for a who album

A familiar UK pop rock sound with some memorable hits.

Classic radio tunes. Not bad music but I've heard it 1 million times.

Liked the classics, the songs I knew. Maybe the other ones would grow on me with repeat listens

This one was a chore to listen. I never understood The Who. In High-school I remember I had a friend who liked the who and we would drive around listening to this album. It was fine but seemed dated to me then and uninspired and now another 25 years later seems less relevant than it did then to me. I absolutely understand people like this band and album, for some reason I just can’t get into the music, even their hits from this album. On the plus side…the album cover is great. God I hope “Tommy” is not on this list!

A lot of these songs have really cool musical ideas but I think some of them go in a direction I’m not really a fan of. Overall I think I liked the album, though. My favorite songs were Baba O’Riley and The Song is Over.

Despite the barnstormer of an opener of Baba O'Reilly, the poignancy of Behind Blue Eyes, and being beautifully well produced, Who's Next strikes me as being lyrically uninspired and lacks a certain substance through most of its tracks.

Iha jepa!

Ja jälleen ukot rokkaa. Brittiukot yleensä paremmin :D

Considerably better than Tommy. Although this still kinda felt a bit theatrical?? Some really good tracks here but somehow I feel I should've enjoyed it more than I did Highlights: Baba o Reilly Behind blue eyes Naked eye Won't get fooled again It's very dad rock. Didn't dislike it by any means, just not sure how bothered I am about going back to any of it. Think this style of rock just isn't quite my thing

Solid album with some classics

The Who have never been my favorite, I don’t know why.

Great songs

Who’s Next has some great tracks but stays just consistently good all the way through. Definitely could be worse for sure, because it’s still good

guilty but i wasn’t blown away 😭 needs a few more deep listens.

Couple of tracks on here that I know and enjoy. But most of the songs definitely sound the same. Solid album.

This is better of The Who albums we've listened two with a couple of classics, but they are my least favorite of the big British bands of the time.

I like The Who. Just stuff all the songs I do like into one spot so I can skip all the stuff I don't care for.

Classic rock. Good but nothing special for today's times.

For my first experience with The Who, and the first album of 1001, I think I started off on a strong note. I can feel when listening to this that it was meant to be performed and heard live in a large arena format. Which is probably where it gets it’s arena rock tag from. The highlight of this record is definitely Keith Moon. I was well aware of who he was before hearing this, but getting to experience him at full display was pretty interesting. If you took the wild uncontrolled flying over the kit of Animal from The Muppets and made it sound like some of the best rock drumming of our time, that would be Moon. He was an animal. Favorite song for me is Bargain. Least favorite would be Behind Blue Eyes.

I don't dislike The Who, just never taken the time to listen to anything other than their best known singles. I did quite like this though, some of it quite a lot. Another to maybe follow up if I remember or re-read my reviews.

Better than average dad-rock

Obv it’s a classic record but these songs have been so overplayed in my lifetime it’s hard to feel anything about them. They’ve just always been omnipresent. Idk, it’s fine but AOR is not my thing and the who is the weakest of the 60s bands.

The good: The big tracks on this album are wildly ahead of their time, with the huge synth/organ lines and kind of prog-adjacent feel to them mixing in with the rockin’ sections. Really cool stuff when you contextualize it. The cuts are hit and miss (we love making fun of Bargain, and it’s not like I’ll ever listen to Going Mobile on my own), but overall cool stuff going on and it’s fun to listen to. The bad: This is a record which is really infected by how much Pete and Roger just…suck as people. They’re so lame. This is a band which made their name in the wave of youth rebellion with tracks like My Generation laying the foundation for proto-punk and the like. The two most enduring tracks that bookend the album (Baba and Won’t Get Fooled) are sardonic condemnations of the youth movements they were just a part of, saying these kids are wasting their time trying to change the world and declaring basically “we tried to change things, but nothing actually changed, so just shut up and go back to work like us”. These guys are 27 making this album and they’ve got the attitude of middle aged men already (helped by the fact that Roger has sang like an old man since he first came to prominence), and especially seeing this is a true sellout on their part just makes it such a bummer. Pete does so much talking about the spiritual journey and his shaman and it just led him to be an old grouch at a young age. All that having been said though, the album still rocks. There’s been so much derivativeness stemming from this sound over the years, but it still sounds fairly unique on its own. I can shut out the vapidness of their lyrics and appreciate the songs as they are structured, and it ends up being a solid listen.

Dad rock. Not my dad, just generic dad

So many hits. Not my tempo but appreciate it for what it is.

Well, well, well. I went through a bit of a journey with this album. First comes the doubt, then the stubborn certainty that what I was listening to was mid, and finally the genuine surprise towards the end. What I am starting to notice with this challenge is that I'll listen to an album, find one or two songs I enjoy, and the rest are forgotten. It is very rare to find an album so consistent that all songs are enjoyed and remembered. With this album, the pattern remains. There are two brilliant songs in this album: Baba O Riley (already familiar with this one), and Won't Get Fooled again (new song for me, and a real pleasant surprise. Aside from the fact it goes on too long, really liked this). Behind blue eyes is quite decent as well, the lyrics caught my attention. What I'd advise listeners is that those three tracks are worth your time, and don't bother with the rest. They aren't all that.

Joe Pera made Baba O’Riley a 5 but the rest of the album sadly does not make me wanna ring bells and eat ice cream

The rest of the songs couldn’t really compete with the gloriousness of Baba O Reilly 2.7/5

Will forever be grateful for Baba O Reilly inspiring one of the greatest Joe Pera episodes of all time. It’s a shame they panicked and added that violin solo at the end

m duerme un poco the who

Baba O‘riley. What an opener. The rest was ok to be honest.

Good, not great buy really good. Some good classic rock. 3*

-baba o’riley is just so iconic -apparently this is my first the who album!!!! -i do like the singing -i really do like this better than a lot of the rock i’ve listened to -baba o’riley is sadly the only real banger on this albim methinks -if that weren’t the case i’d give it four stars

Personal Enjoyability (out of 40): 21 Consistency of Quality (out of 25): 8 Keeps Interest (out of 25): 11 Album Flow (out of 10): 7 Overall 47/100 ★★★ Quick Review: Bookended by two of the best rock songs ever written, the quality of the songs in between isn't consistent enough to justify some of the praise this album gets. Maybe it just hasn't aged that well?

3/5 Best: Behind Blue Eyes Worst: My Wife

Not a bad album. Other than Baba O’Riley and Won’t Get Fooled Again, the album didn’t catch my interest. Three for now and may try another time.

Great singles obviously but I've never been really fond of that band as a whole. I always found Roger's vocals to be kind of weak, especially on the slower songs, his generic tone makes his meleodies hard to remember sometimes. Drumming's incredible though, maybe too good for that band.

Good album.

Not for me but overall cool

Bit of nostalgia here.

More dull than I remember The Who being... one of these stars is probably only because of Baba O'Riley

Well, I liked this better than "Tommy" but that's a low bar. I'm really glad they abandoned the whole rock opera format and just released songs they thought were particularly good from the project. That paid off, I think. There are some really great tracks here. But it still comes across as pretentious nonsense and that, I'm learning, is just what The Who do. It's unfortunate given the level of talent here.

An album with a couple of big bangers on. Really interesting story behind how the synth on Baba O' Riley came into being, Won't Get Fooled Again is probably one of their evergreen calling cards. But overall, this is an album of recovered songs from an aborted previous attempt. Not their best work, but solid material for the most ardent fans.

It was good, but who needs over 2 hours of the who in one sitting?

Didn't need it three times but enjoyed the music the first time.

Yllätyin kuinka paljon pidän tästä! Toisaalta mitäpä muuta voisi odottaa 70-luvun alkupuolen musiikilta: vyörytystä, kiippareita ja isojen areenojen, nautintoelämän tunnelmaa. Aika esteettistä musiikkia muttei lainkaan tyhjää. Baba O'Riley klassikko toimiva avausbiisi.

08.06.2023

Good fun, I need to listen again for sure

I'd play songs from it. I would not buy the album

Decent

Yeah. Pretty good album. I mean, I've heard The Who before and their classic tracks, and those are the highlights here. The songs in the middle are neither here nor there. They're ok. Less... I dunno... punchy? But not terrible. In summation; I've never enjoyed The Who and this maybe only slightly makes me think better of them. They're not bad or anything, it's just not my style.

The year was 2004, Bruce was a sophomore in high school, and the song "Baba O'Riley" entered his earscape thanks to the movie "The Girl Next Door". The "Teenage wasteland" line always made him feel like life was a movie as he walked through the halls listening on his MP3 player with around 32mb, watching all the kids laugh or scurry all about. An epic sound from an epic band, finding this as an adult, I wish I had more memory on my MP3 to Limewire the entire album, would've required at least a 64MB hahahahaaha. This album rocks. 2 hours is a long album my dudes.

Me I’m next

Second Who album in a week and I'm concluding I'm just not a big fan of The Who. This has two absolutely stand out songs and then a lot of not very much.

I have not ever really listened to The Who more than just a greatest hits comp and hearing their songs as ubiquitous parts of pop culture that last 50 years. This album has some bangers that everyone knows and some songs that I have never heard of, which are just whatever. Not my cup of tea, but fun to hear the hits.

This has its moments without, apart from Baba O'Riley, setting my world on fire. I prefer the rockier stuff - Won't Get Fooled Again is pretty strong - but this does feel like a concept album that never came together at times. I do rather like the version of Baby Don't You Do It on the re-issued version of the album I managed to listen to. More of that please! Enjoyable enough but it's not necessarily an album I'd listen to again as an album.

This is probably the best Who album but I still don't really love it. They just aren't for me. 5/10

First third; great. Middle third; boring. Final third; pretty good. Love the usage of synths (?) mixed with more traditional styles of the time. songwriting is pretty great too. best tracks: baba o'riley, Behind blue eyes, bargain

Nice work by The Who, very much moved from Masters of Mod to Rock Gods here. 3.5 stars.

Kunnon hittilevy. Ei nouse mitenkään mestarilliseksi, mutta tasavahvaa suorittamista. 3/5.

This was pretty good. I’m sure they must’ve done better stuff though…?

Suprisingly didnt care much for anything except Baba O'Riley (AMAZING track) and Won't Get Fooled Again, everything inbetween was pretty mediocre

Good, but falls short of the unrealistic expectations set by the opening track, which is not called Teenaged Wasteland but might as well be. The closer "Won't Get Fooled Again" is solid too, which makes this a nice looking sandwich with disappointing insides. I liked "Behnind Blue Eyes" too, but it doesn't fit well with the other songs.

With 'Who's Next' best tracks stacked at the end of the album, it is a steady climb through. Being part rock opera, with a combination of hard rock, prog rock, and art rock, as well as its influential use of synthesizers this album was an interesting listen. Best: Behind Blue Eyes Worst: The Song Is Over Note: Spotify had the 1995 Remastered Issue and I only listened to the original 9 tracks.

PREFS : Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again MOINS PREF : My Wife

Good album, but sags a little in the middle. “Going Mobile” is, generously, lazy.

Baba OReilly is a banger. This album has some good songs but overall it never really affected me like it does most people. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Some good songs, but I'm not sure what to make of the Who - why pissing?

Hey it’s the Who

Still don't really get what the big deal is with The Who. I didn't before and I still don't too.

Probably my favourite The Who album so far but still only OK.

didn't finish the whole album yet, but it's been a good listen so far. sometimes repetitive/unimaginative, but lots of classics I didn't know were sung by the same people

Nothing I disliked but nothing that particularly stuck with me. It was structurally fine, but didn’t wow me or have much to capture my attention. Faves: n/a

Great The Who songs. I like this album more than other The Who albums, but an entire album is still too much for me

Eh few amazing songs but didn't really love the album as a whole

Have heard many of the songs off of this album in the past but have not listened to it in the past. Am a general who dan not huge on them but do like them. Bobba o Riley is a classic as ever. The bargain was okay no real thoughts either way. Love ain’t for keeping another okay song. My wife is another song that I do not need to listen to again three stinkers in a row.

A little long, not really my favorites

Some great songs on here, but overall I find something unlikeable about the who that I can't get over. Can't put my finger on it...what can seem like rebellion, may just be meaness...

I like it but do I love it? This period of The Who's output always feels like a series of connected big moments in a song, rather than fantastic songs through and through. Which I guess is kind of prog, and there's a lot of prog around the edges here. Which I like, but it makes this neither one thing nor the other, or that's what it does for me. Like not love.

Bestes Who Album.

Feels nostalgic reminds me of the early 2000s because house and CSI used songs from this album. Very easy and enjoyable to listen to.

I liked the idea of the album, I enjoyed a lot some songs, but overall, it was a little bit annoying to reach to the end of this. It's not a bad album, but it's much better to listen to The Who's greatest hits rather than this album.

went through a teenage spell where i believed the hype and thought the who were brilliant, whereas in reality they have about 10 standout tracks and the rest is a bit guff. the bits my older self has lost track with is that roger daltry is such a fucking duanne dibbley and i can't stand the nonces high pitched singing voice. mad that the standout for this band is the rhytmn section. it's competing for the best ever bass and drums combo with their competition coming from; reni and mani the johns - bonham and paul jones (another band where they save it) macca and ringo. many bands have an amazing drummer or amazing bassist, but very few have both together. this albums saving grace is that it has 3 of those previously mentioned good songs.

Who was next? Was it @SHACK?

Joe Pera makes this album

Interpelle mon côté rock. Écoute agréable.

This album is bookended by two giant teenage anthems, and the listener is stuck between a wasteland and a system that doesn't change no matter how many revolutions you have. Live fast, die young, and don't trust anyone over the age of 30. Oh, and the portable synthesizer debuted in 1971. Don't this cutting-edge technology just sound great?

Da e nåken solide sanga her

Great, shorter than I imagined. Daltrey often doesn’t sing, even though he clearly can.

Baba o reilly is goated but the rest of the album is alright

I love music from the 60s and 70s. And of course, I listened The Who. But I can't remember any of their songs, except My generation and Behind Blue Eyes.

The hits are good

Fire, kind of repetitive. I have no idea which album is the actual original one cause there’s so much extra stuff on Apple Music.

Didn’t listen yet

3.5/5 baba and won't get fooled again are bangers

I respect this album, and it does have some good songs, but I found it to be a little boring to listen to. My favourite song was Going Mobile.

I really want to like The Who, but every one of their songs gets stuck in my head for weeks and then I don’t like them so much. The album is great technically, lots of fun, and has three of the bands all time greatest hits. All of the members are obviously very talented. The middle songs drag a bit. My favorites: Bargain, Love Ain’t For Keeping, Behind Blue Eyes

overall pretty good album but like not mindblowing - the songs I knew were good (baba, blue eyes and won't get fooled) and some of the ones I didn't were good surprises (getting in tune and song is over) but overall the instrumentation wasn't anything to rave about (except for the opening and closer) and some melodies were j too bland (bargain) - 3.5

It's alright. I really like some of their early albums, but this feels like its lost some of that charm

Buen álbum, pero no conquistó mi corazón.

There was nothing here that wowed me, but it's a decent album. My favorite was Behind Blue Eyes.

Big fan of The Who, lots of good tracks with epic drum fills, they do however sound very similar at times.

Considering all the other albums on this list from 1971, this would probably be in the bottom half. 9 songs and half of them are memorable, overrated album.

Baba O'Reilly kicks off a decent album.

Don't like the who but this was kinda bearable. That being said, I did only listen to the 43 minutes of the original and not the two-hour "deluxe" version it loaded here. Behind Blue Eyes is a genuinely good song. The rest is somewhere between ok and not bad. 3/5.

Certainly not bad, but other than a few high points, not remarkable.

I mean not my style *CSI Miami* vibes kekw

Some songs are better than others The album is considerably long so it is a drawback for me I won’t necessarily listen to this again.

There are some all-time songs on the album. Won't Get Fooled Again is incredible and Baba O'Riley is a favorite for most.

Good background music, quite boring and one paced

I feel like this one gets overrated compared to a lot of other records from The Who. Yeah, it has some of their best songs (arguably some of the best rock songs ever), but many of the deep cuts just feel week to me, particularly on the B side. I wish I could rate this higher, but as an overall album experience I just can't.

3 Pretty ok

Well - an album that contains Baba O’Riley, Won’t Get Fooled Again and Behind Blue Eyes should be a perfect album, no? Alas the rest is a slightly sagging bell bottoms of a 70s Rock Monster that the 1977 movement stood against - its a band bloated - still an excellent band, but departed from its ‘My Generation’ roots and its sense of humor and blistering guitars in favour of arena enormity. Still - it’s a good album - and the aforementioned tracks are up there in the rock and roll canon - but this is The Who at its fading out.

-Who’s Next? -Um, The Who? -Yes. -Wait, Yes? Like “Owner of a Lonely Heart?” The band Yes? -No, not The Band. Not “The Weight.” -I don’t want to wait - I’m impatient - I want to know who. -The Who. -Yes, that’s what I’m asking you - Who? Who’s next? Were The Who asking “Who’s Next” to rip off and ape their style? “Who’s Next” has a noticeably different style from “My Generation” and “The Who Sells Out.” This 1971 album feels like a marked shift towards 70s classic and southern rock with a sprinkle of progressive rock and probably something else too. It may not have been very original, but I think the change suited them. I do really like “Baba O’Riley” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” though. I think a lot of my fondness for “Baba O’Riley” comes from Pearl Jam covers, but The Who original is pretty great too.

Visoka trojka

- novi Fontaines, Pusha T i Gizzardi Lizardi Wizardi.

Never got The Who. While the first and last tracks are pretty iconic it still doesn’t do much for me. Even when they are pioneering weird synths, screaming vocals, blistering guitars, honky tonking pianos - it just hits me as middle of the road dad rock. And I normally like middle of the road dad rock! But this just bores me.

Way better than I was expecting. I consider "My Generation" to be one of the worst songs ever. Thankfully this sounded nothing like My Generation. For a short album though, this really starts to drag towards the end. At least "Won't Fooled Again" picks up the tempo before it's over.

Other than the first and last song, it's not very interesting.

Lots of piano!

The Who?!

The synthy bits are absolutely divine, but the boys maintain their penchant for length: Forty-five minutes is a bit long for what's here. Maybe you had to be there. Maybe I'm a tad harsh on The Who generally. So far, this is the album of theirs I'm most likely to revisit. Subliminal effect of the monolith, I'm sure.

Too long Behind blue eyes

I can’t say that this was my favorite album, or anywhere close to it. All things considered, it was a decent listen. Nothing particularly impressed me, but nothing made me want to skip a song, which is a good sign. The vocal delivery, instrumental, and arrangement all were just okay to me, nothing more. As I said, nothing particularly impressed me, even though I still think this is a decent album and worth giving a shot.

Not bad at all. First real listen an album by The Who. Lots of energy and charged tracks. I can see why 8 out of these 9 songs were supposed to be in a rock opera. Favourite track - baba o riley

It was ok i guess

I like the Who. I like a lot of their songs. But when I rank them on my list of greatest bands from that era they're not only pretty far down the list, they're leagues below Zep, Floyd, Stones, Beatles, etc in my book.

The Who's fifth album was immediately successful and is seen by many critics as the band's best album. The Who experimented with a synthesizer on this album to create a lot of interesting effects and it turned out really well. That combined with their great hooks in each song, easily made this an amazing rock album from the 70's.

Some classics in this album, but even the song I knew weren't that great in it entirety. Overall not that bad

This throws back to my very first album of this list: I didn’t like this album as much as my generation. Baba o Reilly is still great though

3.6 - I appreciate the songcraft but still, I’m not a huge fan of The Who. It’s good manly classic rock but maybe too steeped in the canon for me to find exciting.

It's a good album but nothing that stands out.

Pretty good album. "Behind Blue Eyes" is the best track, and I learned that "Teenage Wasteland" is actually NOT the song title -- rather, it's "Baba O'Riley." The Who aren't very high on my list, but I'd listen to this album again. 3 stars.

The Who is the most maddening band on this list. Their hits are undeniably great, but the deeper cuts on every album I've ever heard of theirs are aggressively awful. The Song is Over and Going Mobile make me want to dive headfirst into a pool full of broken glass. At least this wasn't another mediocre rock opera. Best track: Baba O'Riley

The best opening track of all time? Struggling to think of a better one. Its easy to love Baba O'Riley and Won't get fooled again but is this really the rock n roll masterpiece it is often heralded as or just a couple of great singles and a load of filler? Behind Blue eyes was a surprise. a heart wrenching ballad and not what i expected from them. A lot of the other tracks are decent rock n roll tunes of the time without being remarkable. Very enjoyable listen with great moments. Still waiting for Pete Townsend's book he did all research for though... 3/5

Helt ok

Good, heard most of songs previously, but when it dove into remakes and extended versions I bailed.

Nice classic

The Song is over and behind blue eyes are my favs, stout album overall.

kinda boring ):

I've often wondered who had the bright idea about the album cover. How did Entwhistle get his todger away so much quicker than the other 3? What is Daltrey looking at? Why is Moon staring at Daltrey whilst still buttoning up himself? Did Townshend drip on his flairs?

Classic rock at its best - some ho-hum tracks stall a bit of the forward momentum, but the synth tracks on this LP absolutely kill.

Listened before. Good album I just don’t like The Who

Tof album.

Openingstrack is geweldig.

Baba O’Reilly is the pinnacle of the album.

Baba o Riley is great but I don't find the rest of the album particularly inspiring.

44. O giz ainda mantém o teu corpo pelo chão. Ponho os óculos de sol, mas o sol já se foi. Faz frio no beco. O culpado sou eu. MotA: Won't Get Fooled Again "Out her on the fields I farm for my meals"

Never been a big fan of The Who, and Who's Next is definitely not my favorite of theirs. There are some good tracks on this one, but if I'm going to listen to The Who, it's gonna be Tommy or Quadrophenia. Highlights: 1, 5, and 8.

I can see why this is considered in the top 1001, but I don’t think I’ll revisit. I did like Behind Blue Eyes.

Great album! Never thought I would like The Who so much!

Solid classic rock album

Good album, lots of interesting bits throughout sonically speaking. Fun to listen to. Definitely an influential classic that has help perpetuate the rock scene.

Wont Get Fooled Again is a stone cold classic, and theres a few great songs on this. Overall I find The Who a bit ‘rock by numbers’ though.

Cool songs.

This is an ok album. Not much of it thrills me. "Baba O'Riley" is a all time classic track but not really anything special to me. "The Song Is Over" is a painfully long song. Probably long for the sake of irony but still so long. "Behind Blue Eyes" is also a classic track that I enjoy thoroughly. And "Won't Get Fooled Again" is an amazing song that is just a little too long. All in all a pretty good album but not something too special to me.

It's a classic, but not every song is a winner. Lots of hits and then misses. I was interested to learn that going mobile wasn't a newer song - I thought they made it in the 90s about getting an RV. The album also lacks cohesion in a lot of ways. If these songs hit the radio, I'll listen, but I never pick up this album and am excited to play it. Definitely second fiddle to the beatles, stones, and led zeps of the era. I give it 7/10.

Easy listening enough but not much that triggered any spike in emotion. I didn't think Baba O Riley was by The Who, sounds like a 1980's American anthem.

Nice listening experience

The Who hab ich bisher immer vernachlässigt.

Love their songs

Big classic rock! Bigger Who sound, now with (new!) synths. Whoever was controlling those synths had a real nice sense of touch and tone. They fit right in naturally. I enjoyed this one. The anthems, the stripped down jams, the love songs. Going Mobile is cheesy and from what I can tell, a song about RVs. When John Entwhistle died awhile ago I remember a critic praising his basslines - because Pete Townsend didn't solo much, and stuck to big rhythmic strumming, this left space for ol Entwhistle to go wild on the bass. He's all over the fretboard, way high up on the neck. Great sense of touch and tone. Combine that with Keith Moon's mayhem, and no sense of touch and tone, and the Who's rhythm section really cooks. Big classic rock. Big songs. I'm going B+

Baba Orielly is magic—proto LCD sound system. All the songs with synth seem to shine a bit brighter on this one. There are definitely a few clunkers on this one, mostly due to lame lyrics. Like, does “gettin’ into the straight and narrow” in the chorus elicit the spirit of ecstasy that inspires a rocking crescendo? Heck no. I don’t give a fuck if he’s “mobile.” Lots of the songs are mediocrity over Keith Moon’s killer drums. There are 3 hits on this album, Baba, Blue Eyes and Fooled, all great songs, deserving of 6’s. But the rest is twos and threes. 3.

The Who are so goddamn hit or miss. Some massive bangers, some fucking ginormous duds. I think it's pretty telling when you look at the playcount of the songs on Spotify. Tracks 2 through 7 each have like 3 million plays. Then there are the 3 good tracks that have hundreds of millions of plays. TBH all I can think about when The Who comes on is the intro to CSI. Behind Blue Eyes and Baba O'Riley are jams for sure.

Baba slaps

Paso de Who

Pretty solid; wont become part of the regular rotation but a good album

Voll ok. Zu rockig für mich. Wusste nicht dass behind blut eyes von the who ist.

Classic hard-rock with a groove 'n swing. Gotta get back to it eventually.

Semibängeri Helt jees, The Who e ju nog klassiker men det här albumet hade endast några bängerin, resten var ganska tråkiga

some real standout songs on this album. high 3

Not the best who

Good ol boomer rock. Best tracks are behind blue eyes, baba o Riley, and won’t get fooled again

Wrote this review late. This album was prettt standard, definitely not bad but it didn't really stand out. The first track is a masterpiece though.

A good groove, doesn't seem like the type of music you'd smash a guitar to now a days

some classics

This album is 2.5 hours long. It's good, but at the end of the day, just too much Who.

Great live recording in the deluxe version. All the hits.

Ey, it's that one song. That's all I remember.

Behind blue eyes, phenominal.

Classic, and a great first entry. Baba O'Riley Going Mobile Won't Get Fooled Again *favorite songs

side B

Baba O'Riley - 4 Bargain - 4 Love Ain't For Keeping - 2.5 My Wife - 3 The Song is Over - 3.5 Getting in Tune - 3 Going Mobile - 3 Behind Blue Eyes - 3.75 Won't Get Fooled Again - 2.5 Not a bad album just not for me. Last song is too long and has crazy outro. First two songs are great though.

Really glad I finally listened to them properly. Rockier than expected.

1971: Key Songs: Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes

A generous 3. Really fallen out of love with this album. It sounds very meat and potatoes at times.

Probably their best album, but unfortunately the who suck.

i really don’t like this band man. they are peak mediocrity. ‘the song is over’ was good. this is at least better than whatever tommy was. i had to keep switching between the normal version and the deluxe trying to figure out which has a shorter original set list so i can get this done with. so glad it’s over. —- POEM —- i dip my fingers in the cold blue black wisp them along the corpse of a tree i write to patch up your collateral in me to shade my burnt skin from your sin the poem is over before i get to heal

Such a big sound. So popular in the 70's. Was never my thing.

I did not enjoy this album, or the who for the fact

I will not be wasting my time listening to yet another Who album.

Never really been a fan of The Who/ Daltrey, only my generation, even then I prefer The Oasis generation, so….

Certainly a sound of its time.

cidden the who

Great in places but otherwise only okay . Not sure what all the fuss is about.

yaaaaaawn

idk how to explain it the songs aren’t bad but they just don’t do it for me

Sorry, I just can’t stand hearing anymore of those singles, and the rest of the album doesn’t do it for me either.

6/10 - For some reason, I could just _not_ get into this album. May be a consequence of going through this exercise at work. Fav Tracks: Baba O'Riley, The Song Is Over, Behind Blue Eyes Heard before? ---–- ✅ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ❌ Will Listen Again? -- ❌

One of the best starting album songs of all time. Nostalgia back to the days as a wee lad where I would binge CSI las vegas on school breaks... man does time fly... Album is a 2/5 meh for me in the most respectful way.

Based on Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again, I assumed this would sound more futuristic than it does. The rest, except for Behind Blue Eyes, is just really unremarkable.

Idk if I like the singer
