Really solid, if a bit formulaic, hard rock/hair metal from a peak moment in the genre's history. Easy listening for metalheads.

Only listened to a couple of the songs before turning it off. Not my cup of tea.

This album is as catchy as I remember when listening to it on the juke box seeming every day of 8th grade lunch.

Cliche after cliche, power ballads and all that. Sticks like superglue to the poodle rock formula.

Brilliant at the time although only on cassette.

Granddad rock

I have to admit I didn't listen to all of this... I have catching up to do and I was feeling motion sickness on a bus and stressed about other things and had no patience for this album haha. I think if I had more time for it I'd appreciate how cheesy it is and get into it I guess... not my vibe though.

I wonder if younger me would have loved this given I enjoyed Guns n Roses so much. I mean I did quite enjoy a few of these, perhaps in a slightly ironic way. It's just cringey isn't it.

Just another dad rock album, couldn't really find anything exciting about it.

stock hair pop hair metal album

In the 80's, metal had split into two different paths. The first aimed to be heavier, faster, and more intense with chunky riffs and shredding solos. The second went pop with it's catchier riffs, sing-along choruses, and more polished production. While bands like Metallica and Slayer were innovating on the metal genre by developing thrash metal, you had bands like Mötley Crüe, Quiet Riot, and Def Leppard who were selling out. Pyromania certainly embodies the core characteristics of glam metal. It also has the benefit of being a huge commercial success: Pyromania would chart well, sell well, and it can be argued that it's because of Def Leppard gaining exposure on the hot new network MTV. Four whopping music videos would be made from this album, with Photograph being in heavy rotation on MTV. The production value showed off how cool the band was with their leather jackets and teased hair, all while a murder-mystery is interspliced with a very subtle allusion to Marilyn Monroe. It's no wonder why Def Leppard broke the mainstream with this album. Despite it's provocative album title and cover art, Pyromania is as shallow as they come. It's the same song 10 times with the same boring rhythm guitars riffs, same safe solos, same group vocal choruses. If you really like the first song, then you'll really like the rest of the album. I didn't.

The first songs have some very interesting, high energy, rugged vocals (I didn’t know this is the album of Photograph). Personally I found that the latter part of the album was really nice as it slowed down a bit and was less focused on the high energy hits. 3.5/5

Way better than I thought it would bem really enjoyed it. Brian was not impressed with my one armed drummer Trivia. It passed the Alice test as she stayed in the room the whole time. How long until Brian blasts this during a workout in the garage?

Warm fuzzy 80s vibe, sick guitar riffs, passionate vocals, excellent harmonies. Every track is solid. This shit is good.

Enjoyed this way more than I expected. Feel like I’ve said that a lot since starting this. I usually find the whole NWOBHM / 1980s rock very cheesey, but I thought this was canny. Quite a few songs started off sounding a bit cheesey but ended up surprisingly melodic. I’ll definitely return to this for a bit background music

More rawk, this time very ACDCish. Was alright. My dad liked Def Leppard but didn't recognise any of this, think my mam got control of the music most of the time. They put out an album this year which is impressive longevity.

Probably wouldn't listen again but I found it pretty reasonable. Reminded me of a lot of Classic Rock of the same era, of which I think there are better examples.

Album has an interesting mix of glam and the classic 80s rock sound. Overall thought it was decent album, might get an extra star with more listens. Was interesting to learn "Gunter glieben glauchen globen" came from "Rock Of Ages" because I always thought it was a weird way for The Offspring to start off "Pretty Fly For A White Guy". Highlights were "Rock Of Ages", "Rock Rock Till You Drop" and "Too Late For Love".

Not sure about this. Was quite enjoying it initially but it got old fast. Was waiting for pour some sugar on me and it never came.... Wasn't as stadium rock as I was expecting

I do like some cheesy metal, but this is a bit lame. It's lacking the musical interest and catchy riffs

I honestly cannot imagine a more boring and uninteresting record from a musical and production standpoint. This is not for me, this just plain sucks.

I LOVE Pyromania!! I’ve listened to the full album before, it’s just amazing! It’s one of the best albums from the 80s, and one of my favorite albums ever recorded!! I especially love Too Late For Love, Photograph, and Foolin’!

I liked this more than I thought I would

An average hard rock/metal album, with a sort of Judas Priest-like vocal, some interesting and hard to execute guitar solos and very unsophisticated drums, that can make you nauseous after 40 minutes of this album. In general, nothing special or extraordinary, probably one of the first albums of this type, but with almost no listening values nowadays.

If you like Butt Rock, this turd is a gem.

A horrible reminder why I disliked most commercial radio from 80's. More pop than metal, this pseudo-metal hair band's crappy album and "hit" songs got played needlessly on "rock" radio that obviously left an impression on young female listeners and wannabee Def-boys. Clean, dumb fun, I guess, especially if you've ever drawn their logo on your jean jacket vest and school books.

No! Boring it is….

I'm not what you'd call a Def Leppard superfan, but I enjoyed listening to this yesterday. If you're a glam rock / hair metal fan at all, this stuff rises above the rest. It feels like it's in its own realm, and two or three songs here grab me. The rest have a nostalgic feel to them. The album art is pretty great. A fun listen.

Well at least we know where Cinderella got the blueprint for 'Night Songs' from. This is like eating a greasy old burger from a van outside a sports event - it's bad for you, bits of it even look poorly executed but it's got enough in terms of its elements to keep you masticating away merrily. A fair bit of 'el rocko generico' here, but when the Lep boys hit the mark - 'Photograph', 'Rock of Ages', 'Die Hard the Hunter' - it's pretty damn fun. The rather plasticky production and sappy harmony vocals date this, but also grant the listener the gift of instant time travel. You can almost smell the Aquanet. Mildly addictive, despite its excesses.

The hits hold up. “Photograph” and “Rock of Ages” are bangers no matter how you cut it. The rest didn’t move me and mostly I was struck by how over produced this all is. The gang vocals in every chorus sound like they’ve been auto-tuned and that didn’t even exist back then. How did they do that? There’s like six guys singing different harmonies but it all comes out sounding like one guy yelling at the end of a hallway in perfect pitch? It’s so weird and when you focus on it that’s all you hear. I bet it would’ve been cool to see this band live in a club setting back in the day. It was probably the last time they sounded human.

Sounds like a classic, but not really my thing

A few standout songs here. Really just the singles I’ve always known. None of the others stuck with me. The leading track is laughably bad songwriting, imo. Enjoyed the nostalgia of 80s hair metal, but this album isn’t something I’ll come back often, if at all.

Rock music for people who don't like rock? Or just: fodder.

I’ve only heard the 3 big songs (Photograph, Foolin’, Rock of Ages) a thousand times on classic rock radio, and there’s not really any surprises outside of those. Without listening too closely, Track 1 might as well be AC/DC. “Stage Fright” and “Too Late for Love” are pretty hooky & catchy, I might even like the former more than “Rock of Ages”. Despite my own musical interests drifting away from 80s hair/glam metal as of late, I’m happy this list led me back there. November 16, 2022

Absolutely love Def Leppard. Brilliant album

I had a similar experience with this record as with Hysteria. I don't think it's bad by any means, but I don't think it has aged too well in terms of complexity. When this was released in the 80's if I were a high school or college student I think I'd jam hard to this, but now if feels a little one-dimensional. 5/10

When someone tells you “think of the average car” and a 4 door sedan pops into your head. When someone tells you “think of an average rock group” and Def Leppard pops into your head. I like Def Leppard a lot, but they are definitely a sedan that has a sporty vibe to it, like a Honda Accord. Dependable rock

I was surprised for it to be this good! I thought it would be corny and although it feels a lot like ACDC it has a charm of it’s own

Mezclando el hard rock, con el heavy metal y el glam metal, hacen que cada sonido suene similar entre sí, las canciones en ocasiones pierdan su sentido, y hasta ni siquiera se pueda diferenciar sencillamente entre los tracks. Resulta aburrido y medio sin sentido este género que se presenta en bandas como esta, la cuál su música no se conoce para dónde va. No se distingue si quieren sonar potentes, o pomposos; y la creatividad a la hora de componer, tampoco es muy sobresaliente. Lo que es a destacar, es la gran virtud de los músicos, el cuál interpretan solos que te alucinan, y la virtud vocal de Joe Elliot, que deslumbra.

Good band of hard-rock.

Starts off really well with first 2 songs then, ironically, just fades away.

A few decent riffs and jam-packed with a load of filler.

The songs that were released to the radio are awesome. The rest barely qualify as music. That's not a knock against DL, I think it's just how they did business. They kept recording knowing that roughly every fourth song they wrote would be a hit. Not a bad way to get rich.

When this album came out it was so unique and amazing. I have heard it SO many times over the years. I think it is still great, but maybe not as great as I thought it was in the 80s. 4/5

Great 80s rock... Photograph is fantastic. I hadn't heard anything else on this album before.

Meh. I’ve never really been into the 80s hair band sound. I just don’t find myself vibin’.

So, I hated Hysteria when it came up. It felt like Poundland Bon Jovi. Now, this is still not a high water mark of hard rock, but at least sounds like B&M Bargains AC/DC or Aerosmith, which is much better. I still will almost certainly never listen to it again, but it was a pleasurable meh, rather than an offensive mess!

If you want a definition of 80s rock, this is it for me. Not an album I would put on very often but I really enjoyed it. Favourite songs: - Photograph - Stagefright - Rock of ages

Really not my type, but there's a few hits and it'S part of the pop rock culture.

45 minutes of generic and boring rock made with verses only and no hook or chorus. This is a hard ride, not hard rock.

This is not for me. The overall sound just epitomizes that 'hair metal' genre of the 1980's to a nauseating degree.

Nostalgia thy name is Def Leppard. I can't rate this album, I can only rate how much I liked junior high school. Or more accurately, how much I like channeling teenage me. Actually *being* a teenager isn't an experience I would wish on anyone.

Excellent album

Absolute cheesy metal gold. Good for aiding productive work and smiling to. Corniest, 80s-est, best-est. 8 year old me would have lost my mind over it. It's not a work of art but it's the perfect representation of what it is

Really dull

Hysteria was my first introduction to DL as a teenager, but this album had the hits that I kept coming back to as an adult. The rest of the album is a bit of a hard rock/pop metal hodge-podge, and it’s still a wonder to me that the percussion sounds here (done by a drummer with two arms) sound very much the same as Hysteria (done by a drummer with one arm).

Very enjoyable, listened to this album driving to the airport and made for great driving music..not sure if it's good music ??? I have no idea. Each song was fun

This album is like Theon Greyjoy. It looks tough, it fights tough, but it's all rock and literally no cock. Imagine a Pitbull emasculated ten years ago with molten gums for teeth, dwarfed legs, eating a steady diet of nutritious kibble. It's bark is so loud it resonates wholly within... then whimpers out as a metallic fart.

Fun songs and good energy but nothing too special in my mind

It may be unfair to say that Robert "Mutt" Lang did for Def Leppard what he did for AC/DC. However, in both cases he took the bands standard material, pushed for a higher overall quality (and some writer credits in the process) and made it sound huge. In both cases it was enormously effective. Essential hard rock power pop (even for those like me who don't love the genre).

Maybe better than most hair metal of the era but this is still “plastic” rock and roll.

I view Def Leppard as the band closest to the border of “good” vs “bad” classic rock, but on the bad side (I think Van Halen is closest to this border on the good side). Some of these songs are fun to listen to, but a lot of it is too over the top for me and I’d rather just hear AC/DC. They do bring some welcome melody to this type of music, but it all feels so dated and corny.

30th September 2022 Listened during the day while working from home. Went out for dinner at Bhoomi for our birthdays. Love a bit of big hair glam rock and Leppard deliver it in spades.

Easy listening, Good sound, however vett generic

Pretty damn good

This album is both amazing and a total baffler. It's basically a perfect little slice of pop-meets-rock with the big choruses, mutt lang production and technical skill to pull it all off. But the first song is legit terrible. I don't even know why it's on the album at all, let alone why they'd want it to be the first thing anyone hears. Oh, and let's be real: most of us would be surprised to learn that this was BEFORE the drummer got his arm cut off, because it still sounds like it was written with a one-armed man in mind. At least he didn't have to really relearn much to play it live. Maybe Joe Elliott is actually Nostradamus and predicted the accident along with 9/11 on the album cover LOL! haha, 9/11 jokes aside, this album is great. 5/5.

Solid album by def Lep. I feel like pour some sugar on me is their quintessential song but I liked the sound of this album more than that song. This one had a good mix of arena rock/classic rock that was upbeat and easy to listen to. 6.9/10

Catchy tunes and an energetic band aside, Mutt Lange is an absolute genius. His talent and perfect timing pushed all the right buttons right when the rock world needed it. This album still holds up in the 2022s. Some of the songs come off as pure cheese, yet...I would be remiss if I didn't give this 4/5.

Lucky leppard.

What do I say about this? It's not metal, but did it claim to be? Kind of? This is pop glam. And it's pretty damn good for what it is. I have no problems with this being a fantastic example of it's genre and time.

This record was ok. Nothing really stood out to me. I'm not sure if I'm biased against it because it feels so old, or because it just reminds me of dad music, since this is my dads music. I wasn't really digging most of it, it felt very commercial and uninspired, which I did not expect from a band so highly praised and followed. However that could just be the result of bands following what they did and making it more commercial. Overall the album seemed to mush together. Favorite Track: Fooling Least Favorite Track: Most of the songs tbh.

A fine hard rock album. Not a huge fan of Def Leopard, but I certainly appreciate what they do.

Def Leppard sound relatively generic here, but all ten tracks are gimmick-free, competent hair metal and I like hair metal.

Nothing exciting

I was ready to rock out at the start of this one, and by the end I was just bored. Very stereotypical 80s metal and every song sounded the same.

Cool upbeat rock, if we’re limited to 1-5 stars exactly and if the ‘like’ range will generally be 3 or 4 this is definitely in the 4 category. Enjoyable and entertaining

That voice... haha. I dont know if I like that style of singing. This reminds me of Warrant or Kiss... 80s was a weird time for Rock. I feel like there is a lot of talking about rocking in 80s rock. Like self-referencing and writing songs just about rock. I think a lot of Disco songs are like this, talking about dancing or talking about music. A song about itself is pretty funny.

Def Leppard is just alright

Solid classic rock goodness. Kinda surprised to see this was 1983 by the time Def Leppard was apparently making themselves more "radio-friendly", but my '90s kid brain has a skewed perspective of where music friends fall on the timeline, I guess. Hopefully there's some earlier Leppard in the 1001 for me to compare this to.

Hard rock pure sang.

I hate Def Leppard. Always have. While there’s no denying the high quality of the production it’s really a case of putting lipstick on a pig. The music just sounds like a group that’s nowhere as good as AC/DC trying (and failing) to recreate the AC/DC sound. While AC/DC songs have similar content, they at least seem to be smacking and grinning about the lascivious jokes they make. Def Leppard either doesn’t get the joke or actually takes themselves seriously. Either way it’s shit.

I find this album a bit tough to rate. It's a fun album to be sure, with several radio hits, and a collection of lesser songs that hold up pretty well. I think it's also possible that this album is culturally significant, in that it was one of the earliest works that made the metal genre palatable to the mainstream, though there were also many steps in that process. I don't know how actually groundbreaking this album is, in that it presented a more mainstream version of a genre that was already well on its way, but I also don't think that pop music should be scored more poorly just because it is easier for lots of people to enjoy. It's fun, it's worth a listen. You're probably not going to learn anything about the metal genre from listening to it, but that's also probably not why you are listening to Def Leppard in the first place 4/5

Awesome slice of '80s metal!

I really liked this. Didn’t expect to.

I figured this would be some tired dad rock bullshit given the repetoire of these bands but it's pretty fresh. It's got way more replay than I expected.

While I would consider Hysteria their best album, this is a pretty good album. The highlights for me were "Photograph", "Too Late For Love", and "Rock Of Ages" the middle being my personal favorite.

7/10. Continually taken aback that I like Def Leppard. That said, this album had some issues, namely that two songs tried to have a runtime well over 4 minutes, which is way longer than I want to listen to a single Def Leppard song.

I will just never like Def Leppard. I generally despise the hair bands of the 70’s/80’s anyways. I can barely stomach Pour Some Sugar on Me (barely), and that’s not even on this album. I would give them 1 star, but I do admit that their drummer losing his arm in a motorcycle accident and then coming back to continue playing as a 1-armed drummer is as metal as it gets, so I’ll give them an extra stars just for that.

Some of this album is too pop for me, but some is pretty good, it's somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for me, I enjoyed most of it, and even the tracks I didn't like weren't bad, just not my thing.

A classic rock album with some fantastic songs. Photograph, Rock of Ages, and Foolin' are my favs from this one. The rest aren't very memorable but they are still good to listen to. I think this makes two Def Leppard albums on this list too so glad to see them return.

Another from the panther with hearing difficulty! I can comfortably say I enjoyed Hysteria more, but this one is really solid too. Some classic bangers like "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages," plus a couple other songs I will keep in the playlist. They aren't the most sophisticated band, but they get the hits right. Album art: God I hope this isn't one of the twin towers, like that ominous Jeru cover. But no, the art style is cool here, a sniper scope zoomed in on a burning/exploding building. Walked 3 miles one way to the mall to buy this album when I was 14. Probably 3.5 but 4 for nostalgia.

Th first thing to comment is that this album is prior to Rick Allen's accident, which, while it was a tragedy for Rick, definately contributed to Def Leppard creating a unique sound on later albums. As such this is pretty standard 'hair metal' of the early/mid eighties. Well produced, well performed and one of the best of it's type, but nothing really exceptional. Hysteria and Adrenalize are much more impressive works. Yes it (and they) will be criticised as being 'poppy' but music does not always have to be serious and cutting edge, sometimes it can be, and should be, just pure fun - which this is.

I always wanted to know what an album with one armed drummer sounded like. But not this badly. Got through 3 songs.

Pre-1001 I probably would have listed pop-metal as my least favourite genre, but now there are so many others competing for that spot. Kicking off with a song title like "Rock Rock til you Drop" assures a maximum score of a two in my books though I have to admit "Photograph" isn't my least favourite radio hit of the early 80s, so a one was averted.

Oh boy I thought Iron Maiden was a joke, this is even less funny. Everything about this, the the cover, album title and the arrangements all scream cliche'd overwrought commercial metal. It is truly execrable.

Liked about half of it

Many months ago I gave Def Leppard's Hysteria the full 5 stars. They were more ambitious in Hysteria, but every other strength I found in Hysteria can also be found here. They truly represent the anthemic pop sound that glam metal aimed to stand for in the 80s. The production is super clean (apparently the drums were sampled), and the delivery is perfect to rock and sing along to, especially on the vocals. I noticed there's a stronger heavy metal influence on tracks like "Stagefright", and does get a bit prog in tracks like "Die Hard the Hunter." There are several duds in this album. Just like Hysteria, the last few tracks aren't very good, except they're actually generic duds here ("Billy's Got a Gun" is decent with cool effects). Otherwise, it's a great record all throughout just like Hysteria but with weaker songs.

Nice to hear a Def Leppard album. The only time I saw the band was in 2006 or so. I was in the front row and center with a buddy and ended up partying in the hotel room with one of the guys from the band in New Orleans. It was an epic and unforgettable night. I enjoyed this album quite a bit!

British hair farmers, let me ask you a question... "Do your amps go up to eleven...?" Listening to this album is like watching the Hallmark Channel in surroundsound for 24-straight hours. There's so much drama and you really don't care about any of it.

The story of Rick Allen losing his arm and continuing to be a drum legend is the main thing I knew about Def Leppard before listening to this album. (That, and that they must be lousy spellers. Though, as it turns out, not as bad at spelling as an increasing number of modern bands I've encountered recently and had to really roll my eyes at the hip, edgy, alternative spelling of things.) Anyway, UK and Irish country roads are terrifying, and I don't know why anyone would drive their Corvette really fast on those nightmares. Glad Allen survived and adapted though. But like many other hair metal bands, I couldn't have told you which band sang which song. Maybe if pressed I could have correctly guessed "Photograph." That song, along with the other singles ("Rock of Ages," "Foolin'," and "Too Late for Love") really carry the album. That's a pretty high percentage of stellar hard rock songs from that era/style. In the end though, that era/style isn't my favorite. I enjoy the hits, but it isn't really something I seek out and come back to. Pretty much that whole genre is the definition of 3-star music for me.

I’m cruising through town in my Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with the windows down and this album blasting of course. Joe Elliott wails “There’s danger in the air” (Billy’s Got A Gun). God damn right and the danger is me. At a stop light, I glance in the rear view to comb my mullet and adjust my black leather jacket. I turn to the babe in the waiting car next me and wink. I just made her day. -Billy Madison…maybe -break- Rock Of Ages has two tie ins to other songs I know in the first 20 seconds which is fun: First, the “Gunter glieben glauchen globen” is also used by The Offspring in Pretty Fly (For A White Guy). The phrase is gibberish according to Def Leppard. Second “It’s better to burn out…yeah, then fade away” is a direct lift from Neil Young’s 1979 song My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue). An interesting homage from this glam/hair rock band to Mr. Young. If I were of the impressionable musical age in 1983, I’m sure this album would have a great deal of nostalgia. Lacking that experience, I could’ve definitely pump my fist to this at 1230am at the pub, except I would have gone to bed 2 hours earlier.

This is a classic from my childhood. Growing up, by older sister had the vinyl LP. Everything about it, from the music, the cover art, and the videos on MTV, fascinated me. Joe Elliot was the king of cool in my book. I used to love the part of the "Rock of Ages" video when he had the broadsword and it turned into a guitar. Too friggin cool. It was a fantastic balance of heavy/hard rock and melodic pop. I still love it.

Given my expectations from the last Leppard LP, I was pleasantly surprised to learn the band had taken the time to write actual bridges and unique verses on this album instead of beating the same chorus to death for three minutes at a time.

Maybe I was being unfair to Def Leppard. This album rocks

Somewhere between hair metal and butt rock, and can’t make up its mind. Hiring Mutt Lange is a deal with the devil - he will get you some hits, but you’ll have to sacrifice your edge for commerciality.

Listen, I know this is straight-up bubblegum pop hairmetal. None of these lyrics are going to challenge anyone and there's nothing surprising on the album. But damn if it isn't a whole lot of fun. It's also a rare example of an album where the b-side tracks hit so much better than the a-sides. I mean, "Foolin'," "Rock of Ages," and "Billie's Got A Gun" all on the same side? That's a lot of fun relegated to the flip. I sure can't justify a 5-star review here. It's just not that good. But it's too fun for a 3-star. So here we are. 4 stars for you, you silly brits.

Structure and rhythm are a bit too standard for my liking, but I guess it does what it does well.

Fun album for what it is. Kind of all you need from that glammy, hair metal, arena rock era. Lots of radio hits – other than that, "Stagefright" was a fun one. I think this genre, as whole, hasn't aged very well. Probably won't be returning to this album any time soon.

80s rock and roll marked a massive deviation from the 70s. The influence of disco and warm recordings gave way to a resurgence of blues and stadium feels. Def Leppard was not an exception here, borrowing the wailing vocals of Led Zeppelin and the commanding guitars of Jimmy Page, Def Leppard changed it up and defined the 80s sound of rock by using background vocals to sing the choruses, ushering what would most certainly be the theme of 1980s metal, and that is writing what essentially is an anthem. Songs that could be sung for a crowd, by the crowd. "Rock of Ages", "Photograph", both songs create that feel of not just a hit single, but a rallying cry of sorts, something that as fans of Def Leppard, brought people together. This was the strangely optimistic theme of the decade and the band did it well. Overall the album is heavy when it needs to be, and expressive of the decade it was recorded where a new cool was being formed, and for that it earns its place in 1001.

Proto-butt rock! Sounds like Bon Jovi at times. AC/DC at other times. Throw in a little Motley Crue. This is some serious nostalgia shit right here. It's corny but I love it.

Sigh. I really struggle with the 80s stadium rock stuff. It sounds so terribly fake and insincere. I get it's fun, but this doesn't stir anything in me. I would give it 1.5 but I'm being generous.

Where’s the incentive to listen if it doesn’t have Animal or Pour Some Sugar On Me on it??

Better to burn out with Pyromania than fade away like Def Leppard.

I've never listened to Def Leppard before and this is my first exposure. If you asked me to name an 80s metal sound, this would be it. It just sounds so 80s. In short doses it is okay but 45 minutes is too much for me. 2.5/5

Oh boy, vraiment pas un fan de hard rock de ce genre. La production est beaucoup trop léchée pour moi. Le drum sonne vraiment comme une grosse caricature de ces années là. Les backs vocaux me font vraiment pas tripper. Je dois par contre admettre que Photograph est vraiment efficace et bien construite. Elle reste dans la tête. Par contre j'aime plus le début de Stagefright jusqu'au refrain. J'ai beaucoup aimé et trouvé bien drôle le band 3 Inches Of Blood et j'ai l'impression que c'est une caricature en partie de cette époque. Ça a peut-être amené des gens un peu plus proche du métal, mais ce n'est pas du métal. À connaître pour le groupe et la chanson Photograph, mais on passe à autre chose.

"The extra instrumental track at the end of 'Billy's Bot A Gun' has been called either 'The March Of The Dreaded Zultrons' or 'The March Of The Wooden Zombies' by different band members. This is very nostalgic, though I was a much bigger fan of Hysteria. This still brings everything you expect from Def Leppard though, sometimes they veer a little too much towards AC/DC'ness for my liking, but in general it's a fun listen.

Pretty straightforward hair metal, direct and to the point. Nothing especially fancy or artistic happening here. Enjoyable but not a "stand out of the crowd" type of record. I mean... This album isn't bad, but imo it's pretty boring. Super standard 80s hair metal/pop rock. Couple of stone cold classics on here that get their fair rotation on any Dad rock station. Other than that I see nothing particularly progressive, influential or noteworthy. Not sure this really deserves a spot on a list of must listen to albums, throw a dart at a wall full of 80s hair metal bands and you'll get more or less the same effect. +Photograph, Too Late for Love, Foolin', Rock of Ages, Comin' Under Fire, Billy's Got a Gun Deliberate, precise, measured, exact...these are not words we normally use to describe hard rock, but Def Leppard isn't like other schlock rockers; They use musical theory, chord progression, harmony, and song structure to produce a glisteningly crystal-clear product that is chock full of production value, addictive progressions, and perfectly-balanced mixing. There just isn't another act out there that can so pull off what Def Leppard does, album after album, and make it look so easy in the process.

Still not my thing

Fun, cheesy hair rock band. Some of these reviews are ridiculous. If you can't even be bothered to listen to the entire album, why are you even doing this?

Just tinny sounding and awful. Not just ‘80s-cheesy-bad, but timelessly awful in being stupid and posturing and playing into the worst rock cliches (including taking themselves way too seriously). The worst part is that they seemed to make the world safe for even shittier and lamer hair bands and so many more bad power ballads. “Photograph” is a great song. Otherwise, this is gets awfully close to Spinal Tap territory (“Stagefright” especially).

Some great songs here, both in the singles and deep album cuts, but overall it is less consistent than the album it precedes; that inconsistently really brings it down.

Really potent compared to Hysteria, and has a lot of potential. Still too samey for a 5.

I've nothing against this. It's just not me. 80s MOR rock made for Mid-west radio stations. Personally I prefer Black Sabbath or Motorhead. Nothing wrong with it, just not me.

To be honest, this one was way better than I expected. Perhaps my expectations were low because two of the best known songs from the album (Photograph and Rock Of Ages) were by far the worst tracks in my opinion. But the less poppy parts of the album were a lot of fun and I ended up enjoying the album quite a bit!

Some of the songs are really good. These guys are seen as heavy metal gods but they sound like a classic hair metal band. There are other metal bands which are far more dark or metal.

I was surprised to hear the sample from "pretty fly for a white guy" at the start of "rock of ages", but mostly because there is not other obvious influence on The Offspring by Def Leppard

Making heavy metal accessible for the masses! Love this album almost as much as I did 40 years ago. High and Dry is their best album though!

Loved this when it first came out, haven’t listened to it for about 20 years and sadly it hasn’t aged well. It’s the genesis of commercial DL, you can hear their distinctive sound within the album. Still I would give it a 4 because there were tracks on it that were still very listenable

Probably a 3.5 and rounding up because their previous album, “High n Dry” got me reprimanded by a school board member for excessive noise at a HS baseball game.

I've never been able to think of Def Leppard as anything other than a joke, this album is a big reason why. Look at that cover, this band looks metal! Wait, what? It's just a bunch of pop songs? Okay. Well, congrats on your immense wealth and popularity!

Okay so this may have the best album cover of all time? Why did nobody warn me? Yes it's hair metal. Sometimes you really want to listen to hair metal. Foolin' is obviously an all timer. Die Hard the Hunter was awesome too. All the tracks were at least okay-to-good.

The mixdown is an incoherant mess, and the vocals are awful.
