Reviews (page 13 of 13)
Two Garfunkel and Simon albums in a row. The other one was better though.
Oh boy… My dad sure loved the title track. He used to sing along in harmony, and wasn’t half bad. For a ROTC and MIT grad of the late 50’s, sporting a high and tight and building missiles for Boeing, he sure struggled with the sexy powers of the budding hippy movement. Burning bras only helped fuel his transformation to the left, and before long, his goatee was born and leaves were burnt. And goddamnit, I had to listen to this shit! Yuck. It’s not awful.
It's hard to be selective with Simon & Garfunkel albums because you'll always have something worth hearing on at least one of the albums. Sounds of Silence has the Sounds of Silence, Bookends has Mrs. Robinson, Bridge Over Troubled Water has Bridge Over Troubled Water. For the album with a bunch of herbs, we're listening to Scarborough Fair. Their most intricate and inconsistent album. Scatterings of folk rock, baroque folk, folk pop, a Christmas hymn at the end, it all never quite clicks a whole unit. There's a few good things going for it but it keeps getting held back by challenging decisions.
Some good songs and a bunch okay ones but nothing that was a "YES!" on here.
Music for the village green. Not my vibe but I am happy for those who get anything out of this. 4 / 10
Outside of The 59th Street song, which is heard before and the 7 O'clock news, which I found interesting... My only other thought was I need to roast a chicken (title song)
If this was your thing back then, it will still be your thing. If not, it won't become your thing. Nothing wrong with it but it doesn't set your world on fire. 2/5
Scarborough Fair sounds like something they stole from a minstrel in King Henry the VIII's court Homeward Bound is one of my favourite Simon and Garfunkel tracks... It was written for a different album 59th Street Bridge is a fun little piece of songwriting, but the phrase "groovy" always sounds as dated as it is. The album sounds very rushed like it was written on the back of a cigarette pack and just recorded without any work put into the songs Ends with a strange take on a Christmas carol Definitely not my favourite Simon and Garfunkel album
Simon & Garfunkel create a soothing and comforting vibe, but as a cohesive album I found this tedious and dull.
Ok but not for me
marginally less annoying that the other S&G albums on this list, still shit though, just less shit Feelin' Groovy - yeah of course you do
Meh. Dated and boring
Kinda sleepy and a little boring at times Not a big fan of a lot of the vocal melodies, they harmonize well together though. Parts of the album that I did like are scattered and far between Not a big fan of this style of music. Overall very hit or miss for me. Some songs sound great with cooler weather right now. Some songs just don't work for me. Starts weak and ends weak. Without the strong mid section of the album this would be a big miss. What the hell is that last song? Are we for real right now? BEST TRACKS The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine // The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) // A Simple Desultory Phillippic // For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her WORST TRACK 7 O'clock News / Silent Night
This is what I imagine would be playing though my head if I was larping at a medieval fair
Eh…
This is an old album, it’s nearly 60 years old. And it sounds like it. This is from a different time period, and I tried to remember that fact as I listened. The harmonies are really nice. I get the message and the lyrics of most of the songs and the album, and if I was a young man in 1966, this would’ve been my fucking anthem. But today its age shows, it’s kinda boring. I didn’t enjoy most of it. I do appreciate the short length of the album, it truly reached the end of what my attention span can endure from an old whiney teenage anti culture ballad.
Kind of as I imagined. Tad boring, get why people like it. Personally wouldn't love listening for any longer, 2.4.
Used to be a huge fan, and they are good but not feeling this album the same as before 2.7 stars?
Eh. High pitched
Better than I expected. I thought it would be a lot more like the title track, but a few highlights lifted this from bland to slightly seasoned.
и снова на радио-волне Дон Симон и братишка Гомункул с новым акустическим альбомом, похлопаем ребятам
A simple desultory philippic (Dylan one?) was the best here. Feeling groovy my least favourite. Needed more from the spice rack
Scarborough fair takes me back to group singing in music class at secondary school Snoozefest Really don’t have much else to say about the album
A bit corny in places, not a patch on Bridge Over Troubled Water. Again, do we really need more than one Simon and Garfunkel album on this list.
That’s an album from the 60s that’s for sure. Maybe need to re-listen, the songs were good, just didn’t capture me
Insipid and twee folk-lite.
Boring. I prefer them as detectorists
1. canticle - 2 2. patternz - 1 3. cloudy - 1 4. bound - 1.5 5. machine - 1 6. bridge - 1 7. dangling - 1.5 8. flouuerz - 1 9. zimple - 1 10. emily - 1.5 11. poem - 1 12. night - 1.5
Blessedly short. It wasn't bad, but nothing about it excited me. 2/5
Boring
Not my cup of tea. I think it was probably super unique and new when it was released but it doesn’t move the needle for me. I don’t hate it and won’t turn it off if it’s on and the final song (Silent Night) is a pretty grim reminder of the times. Plus, there are a few well known songs from my youth but it just doesn’t move that much
I don’t get simon and Garfunkel. Always seemed like a you had to be there type thing. So if I was puffing the magic dragon in Greenwich village in 1966, I might be all over this. Judging by my reaction to pot, it would be a race between the pot and the album to see what knocks me out first. I guess I’m more like Bluto in animal house than a beatnik/hippie.
vb
Very dated!!
Pari mainiota, muuten ei omaan makuun
A very pretty album, peaceful. They have really cool harmonies and the only thing weighing on me is the use of a god damn harmonica. Just can’t stand the thing.
I was very glad this was a shoelrt album. Very ornate
Need some Mushroom tea for this one
How did Paul Simon get all this world class song writer cred? This album is boring and lifeless. I want my hour back.
Not for me
Mercifully only 28 minutes. Not a fan
Paul Simons songwriting seems to lack any kind of subtlety. His melodies and tunes are beautiful and creative, but his lyrics rarely goes above being merely servicable. There's nothing wrong with it. I've just never found anything under the surface if his lyricism. All is groovy, ba da da da da da da. The Dylan parody is insipid and, dare I say, cringe. Making Silent Night the closing song is puzzling, and makes for a very weak ending I think. Otherwise the songs were nice, with several highlights like Homeward Bound and For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her. But as the album is barely 28 minutes long the songs just come and go with too little time to make a big impression. Sometimes the production gets a bit too mawkish, but the album generally sounds good and their voices blend nicely. The wonderful harmonies may be the greatest thing about the album. All in all, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme didn't do anything to change my view of Simon and Garfunkel as a group: nice harmonies, some great songs, very commercial, a bit milquetoast. 28. 05. 2024
A decently chill album that is pretty nice. And that's pretty much it
glad that was only 28 minutes
Of its time…
Unfortunately didn't make a huge impression on me. Bookends is the superior and more forward-thinking project, although I don't doubt the songwriting chops here, especially on Homeward Bound. I wish I liked For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her more, sucks they didn't namedrop in the actual song. But again, very innovative use of "skit"-like news report audio on 7 O'Clock News.
Meh
Heel saai, wel mooie zang harmonieën zo nu en dan maar daar blijft het bij
Boring, but not completely offended
Good stuff
Some good
I guess my problem with Simon & Garfunkel in general is that I find their music very passive and soft, just straight up boring I guess. All of this is very subjective of course.
Everybody loves some Simon and Garfunkel. And there's only SOME songs on here to love.
Ok, classics
just not for me, but i can see it being great
If you told me that half of these songs had the same melody and only different lyrics, I would believe you. It's hard to come up with the words to talk about an album that's so soft and unassertive. It evokes no emotion whatsoever. A Simple Desultory Philippic was the closest we got to any semblance of fun, but otherwise we're just left thinking okay.... that was it?
Bit of an odd album I thought. Homeward Bound the obvious good one. Otherwise a couple of quite enjoyable psych type tunes which I’m not sure are a piss take or not, and some not outstanding folky ones. Liked the Silent night one with the news overdubs, nice historical piece. Wouldn’t listen again I doubt.
Super sleepy. I like Paul’s later stuff, but this isn’t my thing.
Aiight
Way slow. Not much here for me.
Don’t get the theme
Muy flojo.
Unexciting
Eh, I kinda liked "Patterns."
There's melodic, orchestral 1960s-era music I enjoy. But there's something so self-serious about this album - matched by the intensity of that album cover - that just did not connect with me. It's also super dated ('Feelin' Groovy' for God's sake?) that maybe you had to be there to enjoy.
43/1001
Ehhh. I get that these guys are legends but I much prefer Simon’s solo stuff.
säuselpop. ugh. couldn't finish.
Easy listening to have on in the background.
Weird fun
Time has not been kind to this duo. I wouldn't be caught dead using the word "groovy" in a sentence. One great song; Homeward Bound. One Ok song; Parsely, Sage etc. One over rated song; The 59th Street Bridge Song. Who honestly remembers the other songs. Over produced, two many strings. This album could have used a "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" or two.
Not really a Simon & Garfunkel fan. I can appreciate the harmonies and songwriting but it just doesn’t click for me
This type of melody I heard many times in all the old movies in Europe so it is not really new experience.
Not my style
Wow. Listened to this whole album. I’m a little young to have listened to this when it came out (parents would never have owned this “hippie” album). I can’t say I enjoyed this one.
I really like some (maybe one) of the other albums they put out, but this feels weird being on this list. It feels a bit scattered not as rich as some of their other works. Some good songs, some ok ones… and Scarborough Fair Maybe I’ve heard that song too many times, I like to forget it. Two and a half. Fave track: Dangling Conversation
what?
Admittedly not my favorite genre of music, but more enjoyable than I anticipated.
They harmonise well, and I like the subtle tunes. Good song writers, but this album is just not for me.
Honestly not a fan. Sorry people
I actually thought this album was kind of underwhelming. I do appreciate a beautifully crafted folk record, such as Nick Drake’s Pink Moon, or Joni Mitchell’s Blue, but with the exception of the hypnotising Scarborough Fair, this album was a bit of a snooze fest. Scarborough Fair was inspired by traditional English folk and as a result sounds very medieval and timeless, like a pagan campfire. But I would overall rate this album a 4/10. I think Simon & Garfunkel are better at compilation albums - when putting a solid project together in my opinion they lack variety to their melodies and arrangements. You can still make an album sound sonically varied and keep you on your toes and stick to one solid genre.
The bangers are bangers, but for a 28 minute album, left me feeling underwhelmed
it was a 2 at best
I have always hated the lead track, "Scarborough Fair", from which the album takes it's title, but overall I'm a fan. Simon is kind of a grifter, artistic integrity was a pose but he would have recorded in any style to make a hit. ("Sounds of Silence", their first hit illustrates this perfectly. They were a rock duo aping the Everly brothers until Dillon hit, and suddenly they were a folk duo. Then Dillon "went electric", and the song was re-released with with guitars, bass, and drums over-dubbed. Simon claimed it was done without his knowledge, but I don't buy it.) Anyway, there's not many of my favorites on this one, though all of them besides the pandering, desultory lead track clock in at less than 3 minutes; which is awesome! "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" is another one that tries my patience, but I think nostalgia and various cover versions rescue it for me. The rest of the deep cuts are all fine, I imagine real , struggling folkies hated them, but I don't have that baggage. "A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission)" was a surprising highlight amongst the deep tracks, even if (or, maybe because) it is such an obvious Dillon rip-off. I guess I kind of like Simon best when he's being his honest song-thieving, commercial whore self rather than pretending to artiste.
Don't get me wrong. Patterns was a vibe. I've heard shit like it before, on another artist kinda of this vibe (maybe also another Simon duo). It wasn't a bad album in general too. Easy listening, so on. But it's just not that much of a vibe overall. I'm not sure I'll play it again. Maybe? Idk.
At best, folksy and quaint. Often strays into boring and pretentious. It suffers from being a product of its time. It was mercifully short.
First disappointment, likely connects with some listeners, but not this one. Was glad each song was 3 min or less
Only two songs really stood out for me. Last song on the album surprised me and was intense.
It wasn’t my style. It also felt much longer than 30 minutes and was very cheesy at points. Not a favorite.
ok
it was ok. pretty boring
I'm not a fan of folksy music, but I quite enjoyed the 59th street bridge song (feelin' groovy). That is the only song from this album I will be listening to again. I thought the insertion of the wall pounding and the nightly news on the last two tracks were interesting but not pleasant, but that's art, I guess?
I understand the appeal, not my kind of music.
Saccharine 60’s folk. You see some glimpses of the Paul Simon that will emerge. 59th Street Bridge kills me.
Apart from Scarborough Fair and Silent Night wasn't all too bothered
Not as twee as I expected. Pleasant, melodic, catchy, dated.
Yeah they sing well together, but its kinda dated.. Is this what folk music was like in the 60s? I understand it was impactful at the time, but it doesn't hit the same nearly 60 years later. Most of these songs are forgettable... Silent Night is yawn. Best Track: Scarborough Fair / Canticle
meh, too folky
Not bad, but not my vibe. There's better S&G albums imo. Maybe if I gave it a few more listens it'd've stuck, but yeah... Just felt whatever on it.
There's not much here apart from the obvious. Patterns is WEIRD. The Dylan pastiche was just odd. Warblers.
2/5. There is some beautiful imagery and poetic writing but it doesn't always translate well into song. Not many I would repeat listen but none of it was bad. Maybe reading the lyric sheet would prove more enjoyable. Short enough to not be tiresome but that's not always a good thing. Definitely a path where Paul Simon was a poet.
Dit is rete saai zeg... ik vergat sterren uit te delen omdat ik in slaap was gevallen.
Heavenly voices, undoubtedly. Lush harmonies and beautifully performed and recorded instrumentation. I've heard many of these, so I knew what to expect. There's a medieval choral music element to a lot of the vocal arrangements that is a bit off-putting if you aren't into that sound, which I'm not. Paul Simon also always seems like there's a winking attitude to his music I can never get past. Not smug or sarcastic, but too cutesy-clever. Cloying. It's fine, but not my thing. Much like the previous album, it's a mercifully short listen. So that's good.
Like the Emily Dickinson poems they allude to, a bit too light and airy for my taste.
This album really doesn't do a lot for me. It just feels like two guys trying to continue forward in this flowery, boring folk-pop music while Dylan has already released "Highway 61 Revisited" a year before and "Blonde on Blonde" three months earlier. I know it's not fair necessarily to compare this album to those two, since they're not trying to do the same thing but it feels relevant that those albums still feel vital and timeless to me, while this one feels like it's going through the motions. They aren't on the forefront of anything. I think Paul Simon is a good songwriter but I just don't find the folk music on this album very engaging. Even the hits like 'Homeward Bound' and 'The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)' just feel dated and cheesy to me now. Even the track 'A Simple Desultory Philippic', which I included as a standout feels like a lazy exercise in trying to write a Dylanesque song. Standout Tracks: Scarborough Fair/Canticle, The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine, Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission), A Poem on the Underground Wall
Scarborough Fair is a beautiful song. I just don't think I'm a huge folk person. Good thing I had a lot of coffee this morning because listening to this and Nico is making me sleepy! The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) sounds like Babe Rainbow. Weird that Silent Night is on this, but I do like the news section over it.
A bot background muzak style.
Not really for me but there was one or two good songs
it all sounds the same and its ok i guess. gets really annoying toward the end. Music 2.75/5, Length: 6/5, Message and Artist: 1/5 Scarborough fair
They should have went back to the spice rack for some more flavour for this one. Pretty bland.
2/5 Best: Scarborough Fair / Canticle Worst: A Poem On the Underground Wall
Maybe I was in the wrong mood for this album today, but I didn't care for it.
Fine album, but kind of boring.
Short sweet and not my stuff
This was ok, nothing special in my mind. I guess the one thing this had going for it was that it was short.
Ensimmäinen soittokierros meni vahingossa ohi kun kestoa alle 30min koko levyllä. Ihan kivaa rallattelua mutta samuttaa janon liianin hyvin.
Kaunis ja harmoninen, mutta tylsä. Pitäis varmaan useemman kerran kuunnella?
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Not really, just a bit too slow for my taste Favourite song: didn’t have one
Not aged well
Not my favorite of theirs, but it does seem to consolidate all of the S&G songs that I've kind of always found the least interesting.
Bit boring
Ok but surprised how few songs I really liked. Feels very old fashioned now
Some of it I enjoyed, not really something I liked overall though
From the b-52's to this.
Probably 2.5. It was nice listening to to be honest whilst doing some work. No song has stuck with me but I wouldn’t be opposed to going into a few others in their discography
More quaint folky crap. At least it only went for 28min - like reign in blood but far, far gayer. 2/5.
If Medievil Times theme restaurant had a soundtrack, this would be it. Its got all the things: canticles; jangly sounds of Robin Hood prancing through the forest; whimsy; nature; herbs. And the album cover! PS in a puffy shirt looking like he is about to invite AG to check out his Cask of Amontillado, AG time travelling from the '80s with acid wash jeans and looking like he is about to blink SOS in Morse code. 10/10 for Homeward Bound and credit for Scarborough Fair being whatever it is and calling out 4 separate herbs. Everything else 0/10 -- proves the 60s were mostly stupid and self-important. The 7oclock news Silent Night and bob dylan Robert McNamara must be SNL protest song parodies. Homeward Bound though...a good jam.
Not my style
trop cucul pouet pouet pour moi
2.4 - a little too low tempo for my tastes.
It's never been a love affair and it'll never become anything between S&G and myself. You can hear on this album how Paul Simon is a gifted songwriter and lyricist. And while I appreciate his craft, these albums are just not for me. On album 1 they started off folk. Album 2 became a bit rockier Album 3 (this one) is a bit more poetic, Album 4 is a bit more psychedelic Album 5 was a kitsch monstrosity. I've had 4 of them now in this list. Hopefully this was the last one.
Eh, needs less Garfunkel and more Simon.
Classic, don't care for it though
Nope
Ugh. Unbearable corny hippie BS
In het algemeen vind ik dit toch wat te ouderwetse saaie muziek, al zitten er wel leuke deuntjes bij. Dit is zeker niet het beste album van deze heren. **
Nothing great about it. Just average mellow folk. 2/5
Yeah- this isn't for me. I can see why other people like the folky and well constructed songs. But i find the lyric and style grates a little after a while. Enjoyed Homeward bound though. 2/5
This has some wonderful lyrics but the songs are dull to me.
Drippy (bad)
Kinda cool Celtic or what not vibes, specially when stoned.
pleasant easy listening
No.
Paul Simon's fingerpicking is incredible. But nothing except "Scarborough Fair" really clicks with me, and that's a fantastic tune no matter who performs it.
Not my fav
Couldn't vibe with it aside from a couple tracks.
Todella heikko esitys listan edelliseen S&G levyyn verrattuna.
simon and garfunkel are a "greatest hits" kinda band.
I respect it but it’s not for me
Never really liked these guys. Glad I can say I've given it a go but not really my thing
I'm biased as I know these guys to be a couple of jerks. My mother-in-law went to school with them. Also, what Paul Simon did in his musical appropriation from Los Lobos and South African artists is criminal. He basically stole their music, recorded some vocals over it and called it his own. So, yeah, screw these guys. Peter, Paul, and Mary are 5x better. That said, this is a collection of catchy, sensitive songs that take on a whole new meaning knowing the sinister natures of these two.
folk nonces. they're really good at what they do, it's technically pretty sound and well written. i just don't like it, also they're total folk nonces.
Sacherine in the extremes.
not that great, basic folk 60s
I did not do much on Friday between laundry, work, and getting ready to head to Taos. At work I listened to a company meeting about virus treatment which was pretty interesting. During this meeting I learned that CRB did in fact contribute to the development of the CoVID vaccine for Pfizer and Moderna. I also worked on coordination at the penthouse for process piping and talked through finishes at the lyo with Kevin, Stacie and Vidula. This album was not given much attention by me, although I will say my favorite song was probably Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine.
Didn’t love it and didn’t hate it. Couple of ‘nice’ songs but wouldn’t purposefully put them on.
4
Production: 6/20 Songwriting: 11/20 Innovation: 8/20 Bangers: 5/20 Emotional response: 8/20 =38 Sorry lads this was boring but I liked the song where you took the piss out of Bob Zimmerframe
Not my vibe sorry
A bit depressing
Meh
Alright but not really in a folk mood at the time of listening. The last track was eerie and probably my favorite despite the simplicity
Sounds very similar to The Beatles and Lou Reed. Neither of which I particularly like
Skipped over, the lyrics are boring and folk rock bringing nothing great to the table.
Ei
Really quite dull. Until the Dylan parody song which is both stupid and offensive.
it was...fine
Forced to sing this at primary school. Hate it with every atom in my body. How do I give negative ⭐️?
iii
Vaya tostón
not my type
Too soft. And not the good kind of soft. Doubt I will listen again.
Nobody likes this boring crap. As I recall, Bluto smashed their guitar on the wall
Nope
when i saw the folk tag i was dreading this because i really do not like folk music. but when the first song started i was like oh! it might be nice! then the rest of the album played. i could not care less about this type of music and i don't understand why anyone would. i'm so sorry the only track that made me feel some semblance of emotion was the last one, but even then it felt kind of heavy-handed. thank the heavens that this was short, unlike some other folk albums i've listened to and similarly disliked fave track: scarborough fair / canticle
Probably the worst album I’ve ever heard
Demasiado antigua. Poco disfrutable
Nah
straight from the hoods of duloc headahh album... EEEEEEEEEEYUCK!!!
Not my type of music eh...
Too gloomy
how to give zero stars
Wow. This stinks.
I can’t take this soft shit, I love Joanna Newsom, Cat Stevens, especially Dylan. But this is at points too earnest and at other times a parody of itself. It’s commercial but it’s fighting to not be, maybe? This sucks!
I just can’t like this no matter how many times I try, not sure why. “7 O’clock News/Silent Night” is a great Christmas song though. Tom
Literally couldn't finish it. Painfully americana in it's infancy
I don’t know about these guys
ไม่ใช่แนว แต่ชื่อเพลงเก๋ดี น่าเอาไปใช้เป็นแคปชั่น
As a reviewer said previously, there's only vanilla here, no parsely, sage, rosemary OR thyme. I just don't really like S&G, not solo, not together. Despite the 28 minute runtime, I just couldn't get through to it.
Christ, how I hate Simon & Garfunkel, this was why I became a punk (in my teens) in the first place. Luckily, it didn't last more than 28 minutes. Plain, dull pretentious and sugar coated folk, yuk! 1/5
I'm not listening to Simon and Barfunkle.
Picture the most insufferable characters in a Woody Allen movie from the '70s. This was their favorite album. Listen, I try to be open-minded. I don't want to judge albums by their covers, or even by the songs I've heard before and disliked. I'm open to the possibility that I'll be surprised. Hey, I didn't even hate Bookends! But this album is proof that you can do all that and still have your presumptions reinforced. It starts with the cover, easily one of the wussiest in the history of pop music, and continues to the songs, which also earn that title. I'm not anti-folk. There's just something so acutely annoying about "The 59th Street Bridge Song," for instance, that turns me into John Belushi smashing the guitar in Animal House. The lyrics frequently come across as annoyingly self-satisfied (the nadir being "A Simple Desultory Philippic"), but are annoying in general. Ugh, and the ham-handed social commentary of "Silent Night" with news reports to close? The worst.
I can with this type of stuff. In my head I just see pretentious white dudes in the corner of a coffee shop singing this with the air that they’ve tapped into some really deep meaning. But no.
this was a task. no thanks.
Boring
Don’t like
Personalmente no me gusta ese género.
This is the 185th album I’m rating. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme that is a Lana Del Rey rhyme. Adding to my Playlist - Cloudy, Homeward Bound, The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, and A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission). Not Adding to my Playlist - Scarborough Fair/Canticle, Patterns, The Dangling Conversation, For Emily, Whenever I may Find Her, A Poem on the Underground Wall, and 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night. 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night - I prefer the version with Fiona Apple. All in all I liked 6/12 songs. Not as bad as I thought it would be based off of how much I disliked Graceland.
I think I prefer the herbs over the album. This is a bit limp-wristed. Best song was the Dylan pastiche "A Simple Desultory Phillippic" (whatever that means). I'm just not an S&G guy. Unfortunately we are bound to see more from the duo on the list and I hope they are better records. These 2 herbivores get 1.48 stars for this one.
My mother used to listen to music like this when I was a small child. Hated it then, hate it now.
HATE. 1/5
Esta bien el album, pero no es para mi. Hay dos o tres canciones que me gustaron y tal y el ritmo en si es tranquilo y bonito pero no me termina de enganchar
vampires
Boring
😴
Mmmmm never liked them.
I found this album very boring. Not sure why I got two Simon and Garfunkel albums in two weeks. Their themes just are not for me. 7 O'Clock News is hardly even a song. I know there's political themes, but I'm not listening to them for the political themes, I'm listening to music because I want to hear music.
Not a fan of sixties music generally and nothing here to change my mind. Sounds like songs kids would sing at school. Nothing offensive, nothing particularly interesting.
i fucking hate simon and garfunkel.
Did not care for it
Most of this sounds like glorified Renaissance Faire music. There's one song that sounds like Bob Dylan (and even name checks him near the end sort of) and the album ends with Silent Night but as a protest song? I don't know, I didn't like this.
Uusi sääntö: Jos "one night stand" albumissa maininta, yks star alaspäin heh... irstailua..
This was corny boots, top to bottom. I don’t care when something was made, I cannot abide songs about “grooviness”. And I know they thought they really did something with that 7 O’clock news/silent night song but I’d have to disagree. This was going to get a very generous 2 until the Bob Dylan shit in A Simple Desultory Philippic. Even if it was making fun of him it needed to be meaner for me to be on board by that point.
Song: Scarborough fair I do not like this song it is scary and it sounds sad I don't recommend this song Song: homeward bound I don't really like this song because it sounds sad again but if they made the lyrics happy and the singers have more energy then it would be a good song but this is okay Song:7o'clock news this song is good I listen to his song on the radio when it is christmas time
I don't like this song because it has no happy energy. I would not recommend this song I don't like this song because it's kinda too sad. I would not recomened this song
i dont like this album because it is a sad song. i don 'recommend this album because its sad
this one is just has weird lyrics I don't like how the memo is and I don't really like how its giving a folkore vibe and I don't like the background instruments The second one I don't like the lyrics and I don't like the genre or the background music and its just not really my type of music I would listen two. the third one I don't really like because it has like a deep meaning and I can barely hear him and I just don't like the background type of sound.
the first song started off really weird cuz there was like 5 voices in the first thingy its Lowkey bad oms I can barely understand what their trying to say or the lyrics the next song is weird to cuz like the voice is so bad like who is u oms the lyrics are weird and random but the background music is kinda good but that's like the only thing that's good this isn't the type of music I listen to. the last song is kinda good cs it was lowkey calming oms
didn’t like it. annoyed me. being harsh here and vague bc i half listened. luca s (🇮🇹) ahh review💔
Sappy, soft singing and ultra-gentle instrumentation, tedious lyrics. I cannot see the appeal. The only tracks which stood out were A Simple Desultory Phillippic, a simple and out-of-place Dylan parody, almost a comedy song; A Poem on the Underground Wall; and the final 7 o'clock News/ Silent Night, which was a bit like a teenage art student's first "deep" song. I agree with the idea, didn't like the presentation. One star. A bit harsh but I honestly don't want to listen to any more Simon and Garfunkel after this.
Ok
A classic for the ages, very jam band
Not more Simon & Garfunkel!!!! I find it hard to find any enthusiasm to listen to any of Simon & Garfunkel work. The music is slow, passive and boring. In short, it's a dull album full of passive songs that you dont really care about or pay attention to. Favourite song: homeward bound Least favourite: most of the album is boring Album artwork: lame
Not sure I’m down with this genre. Simon on his own, yes. This music is lost on me
Bof
Little slow for me
This album wasn’t for me, didn’t like it at all
I was gonna abandon this one early but it’s only 30 mins so I powered through and some of the tracks later (the Dylan one) were good but overall I didn’t really like this. (That Scarborough one is abysmal.)
Since listening to radio in the early 70's I feel like I've had this and other folky stuff forced onto me like it's the bestus thing ever. Nope. Still not a fan.
good vibes but not for me. Only liked 2 songs out of the 11. Glad it was only 30 mins
Just really hard music for me to listen to. The lyrics seem interesting but I tend to fall asleep around the first line. The title alone while telling didn't prepare me for so much softness.
Considered giving 2 stars because I didn't mind the last song but I will not give credit for playing news audio under a Silent Night cover.
Not a great album imo.
Short which is always a bonus with a dull album. Very little of any interest going on here. There may have been one okay song
Makes me wonder what the allure of this band is. Not a great album imo - struggled to keep my attention
It's a perfectly pleasant listen, but shit it's got to be one of the most boring listens we have had. A compilation of highly forgettable tunes that never offer enough to pull you in. All this made me feel was annoyed and perhaps a little frustrated, and somehow I don't think that was the intention of the album. 1.5/5 Fav Track: Scarborough Fair sorry bout it
Shit! The last song/outro is kind of cool(thanks for the heads up J) but this is dog shit
Simon and go-F-yourself. Where are the good albums!?
Self important, bloated, and pretentious, but also somehow trite and pat, even Feeling Groovy which should have been a light hearted and whimsical little tune sounds like an inauthentic drag, it's no wonder they were the laughing stock of the notoriously snooty NY folk seen for a while, they should have remained so.
i dont give a shit about folk Significant 30/92 Liked 14/92 Added 4/92 NNN
Awful. Can’t stand their voices.
I could go the rest of my life without hearing Simon and Garfunkel again and be just fine.
no me gusta
Not my vibe.
Simon. And Garfunkel. I rest my case.
The opener of this album does a good job of sounding both theatrical and satanic. And annoying, too. This continues into track two, where I ceased listening to this shite
Just not for me
Noooooo
The only positive characteristic is that it's relatively short.
A load of tambourine circle, hippy rubbish.
Levyllinen hävyttömyyden normalisointia, joka yltää ajoittain kauneuteen, muttei koskaan tarttuvuuteen.
Ugh, stab me in the ear with a fork. That would be more enjoyable than Simon and Garfunkel. I feel like listening to this album might actually cause erectile dysfunction. I force myself to listen to every album all the way through, but this one was a struggle. I’d rather listen to my tinnitus than more S&G.
Una siesta.
I was stuck unable to stop the music and had to endure this 4 times over. Alas, marking down for being unlistenable 4 times over.
Pour écouter en mangeant de la soupe et en lisant « du bouillon de poulet pour l’âme ».
No
Dissapointed in this. Only knew Scarborough fair and wasn't a fan but was hoping there'd be a few other gems in here as I've heard a few good Simon and Garfunkle songs over the years. The song with Dylan was the standout.
I like Paul SImon's songwriting and the harmonies on some of their other stuff, but this is mostly shit. Fucking Scarborough Fair, fucking Silent Night.
Did not like this at all. Some of the lyrics are unbelievably pretentious. Liked 1 song
Lol @garfunkel
Didn't dig this at all. I'm a child of the 80's and have a VERY eclectic taste in music, but I just found this to sounded somewhat pretentious, bland and generally uninteresting to listen to.
Sorry, maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood but I found myself losing the will to live while listening to this. I’m sure it was good in it’s day while lying in tall grass and tripping out on lsd and wondering why we can’t all just get along. My wife liked the harmonies, I didn’t really.
Not for me
Love this album, has been a part of my life since I can remember. always relevant.
