Reviews (page 12 of 13)
25th February 2022 Started on the Friday and finished on the Sunday. Friday was Ali’s wedding at Elmore court which was amazing. Lovely folky song crafting, surprised by the Dylan impression in the middle!
Normal
Not bad listen - quite quick and good to work to. Patterns spoke to me the most in its simplicity.
Best Song: Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall. Whimsical lyrics with excellent use of rhyme. Worst Song: Homeward Bound. Not terrible, but feels like the kind of song that would play in a coffee commercial. Overall: A very short album, filled with short songs. Pleasant to listen to, but leaves nothing particularly memorable.
Two S&G albums in a row. This one is better than the last one, but it's the same review.
meh
This is folk rock in a very traditional way and it has a great progression from "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" to "7 O'Clock News/Silent Night", almost telling us a story. "Homeward Bound" and "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" are also very remarkable songs and Paul's voice mixed with Art's is always a delight.
Meh. Feels inconsistent -- the haunting folk of "Scarborough Fair" and "To Emily" bookending some pretty forgettable and dated-sounding (not to mention pretentious) stuff.
Some good songs but lost me at times - the bob dylan parody and silent night kind of cringed me
Lovely harmonies. Some good pop/folk. Nice and familiar. However, it's not Bridge Over Troubled Water!
Not really a fan of Simon and Garfunkels vocals, but there are some alright tracks on there.
meh
Quality and enjoyable
Really made me feel peaceful, these guys sure know how to hold a melody, I expect big things from them in the future! I got questioned why I was listening to silent night in January
Relaxing lovely album.
Good, but not great folk album.
Simon and Garfunkel always reminds me of being a kid in the back of the car. My parents would talk and argue over maps, I would daydream staring out the window as the vast prairie would stretch out for what seemed like an infinity. A bright glaring sun would illuminate the land and cast long sinister shadows. I've never actually been to the states and the only S&G song my dad listened to was the one about a sparrow and a snail so must be an appropriated memory from a film or something.
Look, I love this pair’s music, but this album errs to much towards folk music for my precious taste. I wonder when I’ll get the opportunity to rate the real thing, Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Nice and relaxing
Decent
Liked Scarborough Fair, didn't really care for the rest.
Classic, soothing Simon & Garfunkel, not much to say here. It's great music, but it's not on repeat for me.
Calming, dreamy
I liked it a lot, only it was a bit too easy-going for me
Not my favorite S&G record
Me gustan Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound, The 59th street bridge song y The dangling conversation.
nice easy listening, which also makes me feel like i´m not really missing something
All their albums are good.
Paul Simon - always good, but calm down
There are a couple of really good songs on this album but most of it is just way too pretentious. Felt very "I'm 14 and this is deep" to me. For example, on the last song of the album, they sing "Silent Night" as you hear a newscaster describe horrible events of the day in the background. It's the kind of thing I would have come up with in 7th grade and then felt real smug about it afterwards. I think I would have given this a higher score when I was younger but these days I just found it mostly annoying.
35. Simon & Garfunkel Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme 12 tracks. Really interested to listen to this because while there is no doubting their genius, some of it hasn't "clicked" with me before. so keen to give it another go. Still not clicked. 3/5
Someone needs to start a band and call it The Simon & Garfunkels of Death Metal. Speaking of Death Metal, I really hated the Silent Night track. Alternatively, I loved (LOVED) the Poem on the Underground Wall... it made me realize what a huge influence S&G were on Elliot Smith.
Once, a yoga instructor played S&G during class to mix things up and it was the BEST. so I did that. ❤️
Peaceful, relaxing. I really enjoyed the second side of this record (and their Dylan pastiche). First half, minus "Scarborough Fair", somewhat forgettable. Gorgeous harmonies. Favorite tracks: "A Poem on the Underground Wall", "Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall"
I've heard a variety of tracks and a couple of full albums from Simon & Garfunkel, but this album was mostly new to me. Some tracks I have heard many times before, but different renditions that what appears on this album ("Scarborough Fair/Canticle", "Homeward Bound", and "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)"). This album is much more solidly folk music than what I'm used to hearing from the band. "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" was an album favorite (and a moderately familiar track), along with the previously listed tracks. "Patterns" (with it's dying rats) and "A Poem on the Underground Wall" were just weird enough to keep this album squarely in the 'okay' zone.
no thanks
A bit boring in my opinion
Meh
Literate folk. Different versions of some songs that I’ve always heard another way.
Very 60's acoustic, folky jams. A clear example of the poeticism of Paul Simon's songwriting.
Give these guys credit for creating a distinctive chill, mellow folk/pop genre. If you’re in the mood for this on a rainy Sunday afternoon, this album fits the bill perfectly.
3; Chill, relaxing and alright but feels as old as it is
Beautiful balance of vocals and acoustic instruments.
not as good as bridge over troubled water
Solid folk rock album. Their music does stand the test of time and still is unique and enjoyable today. Homeward bound is great. Sometimes Simon and Garfunkel’s music does bore me a little with the soft tones but it’s still a good album. 7.5/10
Bit of a classic, old school for old people
30.05.2021. Simpatično ali nije moj fazon.
Not my favourite S&G - Very focused on a particular mood and time and very whimsical in general however too many of the tracks are the same slow harmonies over acoustic guitar picking - The tracks the deviate from this are the most enjoyable in my opinion The Big Bright Green Treasure injected some energy into the album at a good time Got a bit of the Zombies going on with The Dangling Convo - Don't like the track though By track 8 I kinda felt like I knew what I'm getting but Desultory Phil was a nice surprise - Enjoyed the guitar and groove Top Tracks: A Poem in the Underground Mall Scarborough Desultory Phil Big Right Green is cool What the fuck is that last track? lol Giving it a 3 - Some good tracks and can appreciate it's good music but too much of the same thing
I enjoy this as background music while it puts the lotion on its skin. If I hold my penis with my doll hand it looks massive. I’ve heard worse than this before but also better than this before.
I enjoyed the album quite a bit. I wouldn't say that I absolutely loved it but I am able to appreciate it. My favorite track of this album has to be Scarborough Fair / Canticle because I remember in high school, I learned how to play this piece on piano. It's an alright album, personally not something I would seek to listen to but it is a nice gem.
Great album just nice to listen to
Scarborough Fair / Canticle, Cloudy, Homeward Bound, For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her. Например, припев The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine кажется раздражающим.
Simon and Garfunkel are really a wake up at half 8 kind of duo. You couldn't wake up at half 1 and listen to Simon and Garfunkel. It simply can't be done
Very chill vibes. Great harmonies. Not quite on the level of Bridge over troubled water
Was ready to give this a 2 at the beginning because it really just isn't my time of music at all, but it was actually genius, some clever lyrics and concepts. So, 3/5
Another band I'm not familiar with except their hits. Sounds timeless, you could release the record today with the same sound. And I mean that as a compliment.
3.4
Interesante
Gentle, pleasant and soothing are just three ways to describe this soft, warm caress that Simon and Garfunkel provide on this album. It also describes the way your mum sucks off your dad and his mates from the pub. Yes, YOUR mum. 🍆
"And you read your Emily Dickinson And I my Robert Frost And we note our place with book markers That measure what we've lost Like a poem poorly written We are verses out of rhythm Couplets out of rhyme In syncopated time" (The dangling conversation) "I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored I been John O'Hara'd, McNamara'd I been Rolling Stoned and Beatled 'til I'm blind I been Ayn Randed, nearly branded Communist, 'cause I'm left-handed That's the hand I use, well, never mind" (A simple desultory philippic (or how I was Robert Mcnamara'd into submission)" Siempre tengo un poco de debilidad por las canciones donde la música es :) pero la letra es :(.
Funny
I've heard much of this before. I just don't think it holds up compared to Paul Simons's solo stuff.
Iconic album, a few good tracks. Just not my thing tho.
Won't skip it, won't listen again
good
kinda scary
Solid folksy album
meh
Definitely not my speed, but I can appreciate it leading to so many other more modern sounds.
Cool album. Chill. I likely won’t listen to it again but not bad.
Several classics. And 7 O'clock News/Silent Night.
A much more engaging listen than 'Bridge...' for sure. Dapples in several types of genres and arrangements that create unique, memorable tracks while preserving a sense of unity throughout the LP. Worth another listen for sure.
Not my favourite by them but still good 3.3
Not my fav record by them, but still has some bangers.
Nice and chill. Very hippy. Definitely would like a joint listening to this.
Its okay. nothing too special for me.
Folk’s never really been my thing
Lease favorite S & G album
Folk, harmonies and not a lot else. You know what you’re getting, but it’s still delivered very well!
These kind of light vocal harmonies just sound lame to me
Like a virgins love note to their first crush in a sort of bad way
A languorous classic. Complex and nuanced but never gets going for me.
Technically it's good, but not one I'll turn to often. It was fine to experience, but not one I feel like going back to.
2,5
It was okay. Simon and Garfunkel usually isn’t for me but there are some real tender raw moments that you can’t help but feel. Homeward bound and Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall are my two favorite but I also love the opening tracks medieval feel. Reminds me of John cales version of Venus in furs
I expected to like this more. Other than Scarborough Fair and Homeward Bound, which are lovely tunes, I didn't really get hooked in, and found a lot of it too twee.
Sixties folk fare from S&G
A bit dated.. Doesn't quite do it for me.
Not even the fact that it's by Simon & Garfunkel will save it from the fact that it's f*lk rock.
Aight
All is groovy.
Paul Simon is just as overrepresented on this list as the Byrds or Elvis Costello. All of them made pretty okay music, but none of them at that essential. So, I really don't want to rate this 1 out of spite, but with every new entry (this is my 6th Paul Simon record) my readiness to listen sympathetically declines. So, this has some good songs and some stinkers and way too little dynamics for my taste. And Holy Night? Wow, even worse than El Condor Pasa.
Ok so, I think I owe Paul Simon a formal apology. In my review for Graceland, I wrote that “His solo career post Simon & Garfunkel had promise but Graceland was a difficult and confusing choice made by a man trying to find himself again in other people’s culture.” And you know what… when I wrote that I thought higher of Simon & Garfunkel. But now, after listening to this and Bookends, I want to say that maybe Simon & Garfunkel wasn’t as great as I thought. And maybe Paul Simon had to do what he could to regain relevance. Onto this album though, there were exactly 2 songs I had heard from this album prior, Homeward Bound and 7 O’Clock News. And those are probably the only ones I will relisten to. Mostly Homeward Bound although 7 O’Clock News makes an interesting christmas playlist. Season: Early Winter Favorite Song: Homeward Bound
Song 1: Scarborough Fair/ Canticle -- wir droppen den album title einfach song 1 lol- "then she´ll be a true love of mine" geht lwk hart- sehr ruhig- nettes lied aber es fehlt "der moment" oder hook.. Song 2: Patterns -- coole drum sounds- dramatischer aber immernoch lowfi production- Song 3: Cloudy -- "I havent seen you in a long time" - schönste sounds bis jetzt Song 4: Homeward Bound -- kenn ich schon - banger - Song 5: The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine -- schnellstes lied bis jetzt - we live in a society - groovy am ende Song 6: The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin` Groovy)- kenn ich schon- groovy- idk ob ich mag wie er "groovy" singt lol- süsses kleines lied Song 7: The Dangling Conversation -- wieder ruhiger- interessante instrumente- gutes lied, mag den text Song 8: Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall -- schon gespeichert- mittleres tempo - ähnlich stark wie das lied davor Song 9: A Simple Desultory Phillippic- Rockiger aber selbst für ´66 eher nüchtern- straight edge (?)- komische lyrics, muss vllt nochmal angeguckt werden Song 10: For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her- sehr ruhig- bereits gespeichter- emily mentioned roter kreis- ganz nett aber idk es fehlt für mich diese extra note mal wieder Song 11: A Poem on the Underground Wall -- gespeichert - lyrics die "hart" aufeinander folgen- stärkere emotionen als bei einigen anderen liedern tho Song 12: 7oclock news/ silent Night -- xmas lied all of a sudden ??? huh - coast to coast vibe mit unterlegtem monolog - Album: Sammlung netter kleiner Lieder - Lofi vibes und production- winter stimmung 6 oder 7 lol von 10 ?
Every song is just a rip off of “Teamocil” by Dr. Fünke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution.
Staples of the era but either overplayed or uninteresting.
Not their best. Don't know why it's on this list. IMHO it has no stand out tracks.
Not my cup of tea.
no me gusto tanto
As a kid, I always thought of Simon & Garfunkel as corny music for grown-ups. It’s still that, but also way weirder than I was expecting.
2.25 - I want to like this. I like plenty of music inspired by this, but I just don't like this.
POURQUOI IL Y A DOUCE NUIT RAAAAAAAHHH c'est littéralement juste bob dylan
2.5
C+
This was not my cup of tea. I can understand that based on lyrics it can be a good listen but it all feels bland and all similar.
I probably would have appreciated this more had I been born 10-20 years earlier.
han mich eigentlich fast ned ufd musig chöne achte wills ned so spannend gsi isch, bis Silent night am Schluss cho isch wo mi biz fertig gmacht het. Da hets leider gar ned garfunklet. 2 halbvertröchneti Rosmarin-büsch
Meh
first half made me feel something at times, totally get why one would love them. folksy stuff isn’t typically my thing but parts were good. second half so boring. also robert mcnamara song sounded like bob dylan, maybe all 60s rock folk is by dylan
Not my favourite Simon and Garfunkel album
Thankfully short
For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her: Me da miedo basta A Poem on the Underground Wall: No me gusto 7 O'clock News /Silent Night: La que mas miedo me dio lejos.
It’s not exceptional
Nope. Cant do the whole album.
not my thing
4/1 Nothing really stands out on this one
It was beautiful 500 years ago. Sappy now.
Respect but slow for me
A fine listen, nothing memorable to me really. Vocals are very pleasant, melodies are fine, but something is missing for me
Lite mysigt men väldigt lugnt
Not exactly what I expected. This is a good example of a lot of hype but not the result I wanted.
more?
Get out of my face Paul Simon. It's a 2 because I admit it's influence and some good songs, but it's a 2 because Paul Simon can go take a walk for all I care.
It’s just a bit to weird for me. Didn’t love it
Yes, obvious quality. But I won’t listen again.
It has a few bangers - Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound, Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, but it's pretty pretentious and wannabe Bob Dylan! They hadn't found their voice as individuals yet.
I expect I’m supposed to like this. I don’t remember this album but my parents certainly played a lot of music like this (more often America) in my extreme youth and in this regard might expect a certain nostalgia. But it’s not there. This is boring vanilla and unexciting especially for the time. My grandparents had a nice cabinet based color TV when I was a kid too - doesn’t mean I want to watch movies on it today. 2/5
There’s something so condescending about Paul Simon in particular. He’s a talented guy but these songs are either pretend or pretentious. The key to successful satire is you have to do it better than your target. He most certainly does not when he makes fun of Bob Dylan. He comes off as the folk scene version of Napoleon. Good at what he does but completely self serving.
93. 60s
meh, i need something bigger
they are gay lovers
I really like the layering on the first song. And I sounds like a ballad. Like what, put me in game of thrones. The rest of it was ight
Not sure what I was expecting. It sounds like being in a forest and trying to find a way out but never finding it. Idk decent.
Maybe there is a time a place for this album but the day I listened to it was not that time or place.
What a soft boring album.
This isn’t a bad album, it’s definitely more of a slow paced and quiet vibe. I wouldn’t really consider listening to the whole thing again, nothing really jumped out at me. It’s one I would be listening to in late fall/winter. A couple of the songs were added to my quiet morning playlist on Spotify. Overall it’s not bad but it’s definitely not one I would be recommending let alone listening to again.
Gejaule.
Saai
It’s a nice record overall, but there isn’t a single truly catchy song on it for me.
The album with Homeward Bound I gotta say, not listened to this since the 70's, and it quickly becomes clear that's really where it belongs When my kids ask about the 60's, I'll be playing them the Beatles, Beach Boys, Phil Spector and now this album as a primer - I look forward to seeing their reaction! Like a fine wine, that did not age well
I love these guys but thing really never took off after the brilliant title track. The Bob Dylan parody was pretty fun though. ⭐️⭐️
Too much of that time period
I think I can say, I don't enjoy Simon & Garfunkel. The whole album is just a bore. The lyrics don't draw you in and the music itself isn't intriguing.
A very solid album, quite a bit more musically diverse than I was expecting. High 2s.

26/01/2026 This was a solid "okay" album. Just too boring. Spotify listeners: 9.5 million.
I’m not a big fan. Homeward Bound and The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine were the positives. And I enjoyed the Dylan piss take one. The Silent Night interspersed with news footage was a bit cringey. And the feeling groovy one is naff. Think I prefer Simon’s singing to Art. Nearly a 3.
It's pleasant enough
Not my thing
Not a huge fan
So I just didn’t gel with it. I knew the title song and have never enjoyed it. I found all the songs blurred into one other than track 9. I can see that the lyrics are poetic and it must have been very unique at the time but I just didn’t enjoy listening to it.
After 3 listens, I am just not feeling this album. The overall sound of the record is bland. On my final listen, I began to realize that there were not any songs sticking out to me. The instrumentation is folky, twinkly, and vanilla. I gave it multiple chances but kept finding myself dozing off or just struggling to engage with the music.
A curate's egg. Three great songs but I can leave the reminder
Overall just not my style. I did like silent night.
no not my thing
Found it a harder listen than I thought I would
Musically this is nice but there's just an air about this that makes me feel lile I'm being condescended to which makes me so irrationally irritated that I can't say I processed any of the lyrics. This album is like those awful little cat figurines with fluffy fur at old ladies' houses where rationally you know this is well liked by many but it is so kitchy your instinct is to recoil physically. There's parts that I can dig but then it teeters back to sickly sweet every time and ruins it.
The beat thing about this album is it is only 28 minutes long
not great
Nice tunes that feel flat, lacks bite. Works better as background in a playlist than a standalone album.
Meh
hello only living boy in new york. definitely not something i would’ve picked up but it was a vibe with some tracks being clear standouts.
Derivative, sarcastic, not particularly beautiful or interesting. More preoccupied with topical generational in-jokes than wider human experience or creative integrity. Polished but shallow. Like watching 99% of SNL
good old feel the last song made me cry so that was nice and yeah overall not my fav but a good album nonetheless
Whole album is quite a mishmash.
not a bad album, just not my thing.
Sounds like a dream
Neblogas, bet trūko daugiau energijos.
tipico simon and garfunkel
not the biggest fan so far. it is nice feeling though. idk if that makes sense. also drunk.
Not the biggest folk fan, but I can recognize that its good.
Enjoyable listen. Just a bit plain overall, I'm not the biggest fan of Simon and Garfunkel...
Some songs were nice but in general too church like for me but it was giving me christmassy vibes so all cool.
If internet did not exist I don't think people would have preserved this shit to this day
Better than expected.
As much as I dislike most folk, I was kind of interested in this one, mainly due to Scarborough Fair and it's pretty harmonies. Aside from few tracks that has a bit of an edge to them, the whole album was a bit of an miss. And boring. I just do not like folk.
There's no way to impugn the guitar playing, the signing ability, the music craft quality. It's impeccable. I just don't feel groovy. I like folk music, but not this rainfall and thyme bullshit. i think that says more about me than S&G. still id like to see GWAR punch them.
This wasn't quite as painful as I thought it was going to be. There are some hooks here that I don't mind. But no way am I revisiting this. I can't really deal with how the vocals sound on this album. And that cover. No. 2.49 stars.
3.7/10
Snoozefest folk.
Just kinda meh. Maybe I’m just not a Simon and Garfunkel fan but this nearly put me to sleep. Kinda same-y. I recognize some of it was probably very politically counter, but that just doesn’t change the face that it’s boring.
dont like it lol
- jaha toinen simon n garfunkkeli lets go - tää on tämmöstä, tulee mieleen että tää on ollut aikansa hipsteri/älykkö musaa - 59th street bridge song kuulosti iha hyvältä - a simple desultory philippic kuulosti bob dylan kopiolta - ei muuttanut mun käsitystä s&gstä, ihan alright mutta not my cup of tea
I preferred bridge over trouble water I think. Still a nice listen, but realistically I’m just not going to be putting this back on in a hurry, if ever.
Mid-sixties time capsule. Meh.
Ugh. Why is this here? Two songs that matter and the rest is awful
ok.
This record is all rainbows and butterflies, but seen through meloncholy-tinted glasses. It plays like a Beatles record, but not as catchy. The Bob Dylan spoof was totally unnecessary - who in their right mind would want to sing like Bob Dylan?
Not really feeling it
I thought the Dylan parody was funny, but otherwise it was an boring album
Not my cup of tea. In fact, this has convinced me to quit tea outright. ★★ for the first track.
27 minute long album is amazing. But it was it was 27 minutes at a snails pace
Real wholesome folk music. I can see why this band is referenced all over pop culture
This album wasn’t as much for me
Ugh no
At the time of its release, I can see how this album was popular. I don’t feel it’s aged well as this style of folk music isn’t in the popular zeitgeist anymore.
BIt of a snoozefest (put me to sleep when I should have been doing work) but only 28 minutes so at least I was able to get through it. Also knew some of the songs already (Homeward Bound, 59th Street...). The Dangling Conversation sounds nice on the surface but the lyrics are sooooo extemely lame and pretentious. Final track is quite cool considering it came out in 1966. But it's another grandma and grandpa record - give me something more exciting!!
I don't like Paul Simon. I don't really like him with Garfunkel. This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it still was a painful slog. The highlight for me was when there was the line from The Simpsons about the lamppost (Who Shot Mr Burns Part 1). Otherwise, snorefest. 2 stars.
So you’ve been living alone for a while now, and your elderly neighbour has asked you to come over to her house because she’s got a couple of odd jobs around the house she needs help with. She always greets you with a smile when you see each other over the fence, so you are happy to help. You head over and help her lift a couple of things out of the top shelf of her cupboard, and move an armchair for her. She then offers you a cup of tea. This album is the 27 minutes of you drinking tea with your elderly neighbour. You offer to help her with the tea, and can’t help notice a fair amount of dust in the mugs she has taken out. You can’t find a way to sneakily rinse them though, so you just accept this tea won’t be nice. This feeling is compounded by her adding water and barely stirring once before removing the bag. She doesn’t throw the used teabag out straight away, and you wonder if she might re-use it later. She adds a couple of drops of trim milk and you sit down. To accompany your tea, the lady offers you some shortbread that she baked “the other day”. It looks about three weeks old, and tastes as such, too. She makes polite conversation, however it is somber, as she makes several mentions of being quite lonely now that her beloved husband has passed. You do feel sad for her, and try to offer words of support and condolences. She assures you she is fine though, because she has found a lot of strength through religion and knitting. In fact she makes a couple of mentions of religion. She doesn’t outright ask you if you are a Christian, but she certainly asks a lot of questions trying to surreptitiously ascertain whether or not you have found Christ. Not looking to go down that path, you try and steer the conversation elsewhere, however the only cues around the room are several pictures of her husband and a tv guide from last month.
Mellow sleepy vibes with gentle acoustic guitar picking and beautiful close harmonies. They're really good at what they do, but what they do is so insanely boring. Good to put on to counteract the stress of an intense 30 minute email inbox sprint I guess. Seems like they have a lot of albums on the list beacuse they had a few 'can't leave this song out!' songs spread out over like 4 albums - a good candidate for a greatest hits/best of band, but even that would be a boring 45 minutes.
Overall it just didn't do much for me.
Homeward Bound is a great song; the rest is excellent for background music.
Sounds like Dylan, not the biggest folk rock guy. This was a difficult list for me as I am a huge solo Simon fan. Not horrible, but wouldn't listen to again.
Lightweight and dated, mostly folksy
Earnest and sincere. Precocious in a middle class sorta way. I think I’m too edgy and jaded and insecure for this. Or to put it another way, the last song (Silent Night) made me laugh, but not as much as ‘Eve of Destruction’.
5/10 - Not my music, Slow.
i was excited when this album showed up as the daily pick, i'd (obviously) heard of it and i love a good, weird, folksy sound. i'm sure this was amazing for the time, but... some of these songs were genuinely annoying. i think i just don't like the vocals. i see what they were going for but it's like oil and water. the components are not mixing.
The only good songs on here are the ones that end up on the Greatest Hits albums. As for the album as a whole, remember what Rufus said in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - they get better.
Really was not a fan. Just wasn't for me. I found the whole thing pretty boring. There were a few tracks that didn't make me feel like I was falling asleep and that's the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one. There was just nothing exciting about it, nothing that stood out or grabbed my attention. Maybe I'll explore it again in the future but for now it's a no for me.
Alright
Couple of bangers but rest of the album is meh
Simon and Garfunkel are fine but I roll my eyes every time they appear on this list, they’re just such a bore to listen to
Meh
Whatever man, silent night.
Wasn’t for me
Sorry, but I don’t find this band good. It is the second album that I have to rate and for me it’s like bad church songs with very cheesy lyrics. I do not enjoy the voice of him and it’s too repetitive.
Didn't like most of this album. Just very soft and not what I prefer. I did like the song A Simple Desultory Phillipic a lot. 2.5/5.
Feeling Goofy! The folks at 4Ex had this album (I would say shortly after it dropped) as I remember it getting played through the late 60s and knew all the lyrics back then. Haven’t heard it in over 50 years, but still familiar with all the songs. L= (1.5*s) Scarborough Fair and Homeward Bound are good, the rest of the album is whimpy ballads. J = (3.3*s) Flowers Never Bend leads the way, and I like the ballads.
Simon & Garfunkel certainly have a signature sound but I'm not sure it holds up over the length of an album. I really enjoy the soft vocals and delicate instrumentals on Scarborough Fair/Canticle, but after that it's pretty easy to tune out the rest of the album. It's hard to knock the album as it contains some fine work, it's just nothing I would sit an listen to unless I'm trying to meditate, fall asleep or take a relaxing bath or something. There must have been some sort of wider allure when this was contemporary in 1966, but I don't know. I'm glad I heard it before I died I guess but I don't think I'll ever listen to it again. 2.02 stars
This album ultimately sums up my thoughts on Simon & Garfunkel: inoffensive, but does nothing for me.
BEST SONGS: - Homeward Bound - The Dangling Conversation - For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her
Gash bar about three songs. Mercifully short though
Honestly never heard some of these songs ever before. The acclaim they received back then was well deserved. These were amazing compositions and recordings... Why can't music like this be imagined anymore?
Not a fan, maybe I need to do some mushrooms
Simon is a great lyricist & poet, but apart from a few songs in their catalog, their folky music has never really grabbed me. Best track: Homeward Bound
Simon and Garfunkel are just a bit boring for me
Okay. Just okay.
My problem with this album is that I have heard versions of these songs that are much more energetic than these.
I know that this album and this duo are an USA legend but it's so boring that i honestly couldn'tconnect with this album. The only song i could feel anything was the last, with the villansicos with that call.
Honestly the vibes are up in these songs but they just don't vibe with me
It was not bad to listen to, mainly because I recognized some of the songs.
"Homeward bound" +1, safe and dull, gentle mid 60s baby music
I get it, but not for me. It probably says a lot that my favorite song was the one that sounded like a Bob Dylan parody.
my dad had s&g's greatest hits playing on an endless loop at home when i was a kid. i could no sooner rate the sound of our old dishwasher.
nie moj typ muzyki
I dunno man. I just don’t know about S&G. I don’t think it’s ever gonna happen for me.
Not quite for me, it’s an okay album but I got bored with it pretty fast. The music wasn’t bad per se, but not great either. Though I must say the Silent Night cover was good.
Very boring but I always loved the way their voices go together.
Ironically, an unseasoned album, and very bland, which seems to be the case with any Paul Simon variety. Good singing, again, saves Simon, and gang from getting one star. Favorite Track: "7 o'clock News/Silent Night".
Paul Simon being the catalyst behind everyone making Renaissance Fair music in the late 60s kind of makes me resent him, but this is okay.
not rly my vibe
Nice vocals but not really my thing.
I like a harmony but this is a bit bland really.
quite forgettable. Preferred Bookends
Pretty forgettable.
Not as good as the last S&G album we had but still quite nice
I thought this was a very vanilla album. They are two talented dudes, but the songs and performance sound very sterile and often cheesy. Their public spats have been fun to watch. This album has the second-best version of 'Homeward Bound' ever performed. (Nothing can surpass Kevin Garvey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzakrA2NUpg )
Not my kind of music
Bof pas ma came, trop chill, trop aéré
Soft but kinda boring to me
What an odd recipe.
I keep expecting to like Simon more than I actually do.
A nice display of skill and writing....but really not my cup of tea.
this sounds really old today
It's enjoyable enough, but I didn't hear anything that made me any amount of genuinely interested in this album.
Not for me
I'll preface this with a story, my Uncle got talked into seeing Simon and Garfunkel in concert and he told me it was "The most boring bullshit sleep-inducing show I've ever seen." And you know what? I am inclined to agree, S&G are no doubt great songwriters, Simon especially, but wow was this just kinda lame and boring. No edge, just the personification of the color beige. Works for most but not for me.
I don't like this album because I don't like how their voice sounds and the instruments that are used there are not my type. I would not recommend this album to someone else because i feel like they wouldn't like it since i didn't like it. I would give this 2 starts out of 5.
I didnt like this album because its boring and i dont like how its kinda quiet and i dont recommend it because its boring
Like some other albums on here, I know this is supposed to be up there as one of the greatest, but it was just okay.
There's a couple of good songs, but it's so overly pretty and produced that nothing really sticks out.
Technically good without ever excelling in any department? It feels music has progressed far beyond what this album has to offer.
Hmmm hmmm
OK, bit slow for me, some familiar tunes 2/5
Not really my thing, but overall have nice lyrics. For Emily, Whenever I may go isn't too bad, and A Poem on the Underground is nice. 2.5/5
The first song was really pleasant to hear but then I fell asleep. 2/5 because of the 1st song)
They've got some good material and some truly iconic songs, but there are some major whiffs on here too. I don't think anyone needed that Dylan parody or that Christmas song for filler on an already very short album.
I like the atmosphere of thid album. But the songs dont really grab me.
Not really my cup of tea, but there were a few good songs on the album.
a couple of gems - Homeward Bound and 59th Street Bridge Song - but Simon's greed and ego in claiming songwriting credits for songs he did not solely write (Scarborough Fair and Cloudy) do diminish my respect for him. some of the rest do sound rather twee.
Hmm. Folksy. Too folksy for my taste but can appreciate the influence
Paul Simon and the other guy are good songwriters, there's no argument there. Unfortunately this album ain't it. The "feeling groovy" song is okay. Rest of it is like the Byrds on heavy sedatives. Pass.
Simon & Garfunkel's "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" disappointed. The melodies are pretty, but the songs all sound the same, are too short, and lack depth. The vocals are pleasant but unmemorable. Not recommended for those seeking a unique listening experience. 2/5
I wouldn't call myself a folk music hater, and in fact like some (I gladly listened to the Spotify suggestions that followed this album for quite a while); but this album left me cold. Wasn't very inspiring. Much prefer Bookends.
Aburrido
It’s alright. Nothing magical 1001 album worthy: No - 6/11
Loro so buoni, ma l'album meno
