The Good: Nothing… The Bad: Everything… The Ugly: My face after listening to this album for 3 minutes… It’s (c)RAP… nuff said. I tried listening to it, but the grandioseness of the egos just was too much for my little person. So, to remedy all that negativity, I listened to some great albums I’ve come to know thanks to this voyage, and my day all of a sudden was a lot better… 1*
I don't know. I can barely understand what he is talking about. And most of the beats sound generic to me. There are some musical spots that are cool. but, I'm definitely not interested. And his voice is so annoying, I can't believe people like this shit. This is like terrible, the kind of terrible that makes me want to kill myself. And I hate all these music industry "gangster". The People that take advantage of someone else. Fuck this guy, Kanye and everyone involved on shady things.
The fake David Bowie "Lame" sample in the Nas diss track is embarrassing. Jay's flow is absolutely mid at best on the whole album and whatever persona he tries for on The Blueprint did not age well. He's trying to hold onto the millennium-era flossing rap mogul look with his pop beats while bragging like he's still out in the streets. Then at the end of the record he puts "Song Cry" out trying to be a backpack rapper. Jay-Z is fake as hell.

Tried to listen, but didn't get too far. Not a genre of music I like, although I do try to give the albums a chance.

I really don’t get the hype with Jay-Z. I find this record hard to rate as it was just very mediocre, nothing stood out at all, and it was all very same! Really dull stuff. I will never listen to this again. Favourite song: All I need. Least favourite: Almost every track in the album. Album artwork: Meh!

The musical part of this is really pretty good. Unfortunately, he has to open his mouth and screw everything up.

Jay Z seems to hype himself via cussing like crazy and doesn’t seem to really say much of value. Didn’t think I would hear myself saying I long for Public Enemy compared to this.
He is way tooo overhyped
I’m not impressed. You’ve made a ton of money (somehow), hustled a bunch of drugs, and banged a bunch of women and then made a career bragging about it. Congrats? You sold your soul for this? Really? I don’t understand how he’s supposed to be a generational talent or artist. This isn’t art.

I'm actually stunned. How on earth has this made it on the list? I've said this before about plenty of terrible rap on here, given the few (and I mean few) amazing rap albums out there that I'm no worried aren't going to turn up. This is utter, utter shite. Lyrically it's on par with what I scribbled down into my school book at 12 after getting really into Eminem. Read the lyrics for Takeover for example. Downright embarrassing. Then on girls girls girls... Slightly racist, very mysoginistic, but again, downright embarrassing. Glad I never gave this clown the time of day. Top 10 worst albums I've gotten on here, I'd pay good money to never hear this again.
Awful drone
Another rap album that just escapes me. Lots of recognizable samples and such, but ultimately not that compelling to me. Of course, rap just isn't my thing.
A tacky hour of a dude bragging about his newfound wealth. Ick.
To start with, I was keen to listen to some good hip hop, then I started to find I was bored by the middle of each track, and by the end it was like being stuck on a long coach journey crammed in a seat next to a mildly bigoted old codger who just would, not, shut, up. Going on and on and on about sexual conquests and how he was morally sound, but broke the law all the time, and how he was down with streets and trying to do God's work and how he respect bitches and his much money he's got (yet somehow is still riding this fictional coach). I need earplugs and a facemask, not headphones, yawn.
p880. 2001. 1 star (C)rap. Usual tedious, macho, misogynistic, foul mouthed nonsense. Bonus point for the production values and the obvious theft from Issac Hayes on the opener. Sample "lyrics": "Nigga's kidnap your babies/Spit on your lady/We bring knife to a fistfight/Kill your drama/We kill you motherfucking ants with a sledgehammer".

I wasn't looking forward to this having heard some Jay Z stuff before. I can't stand lyrics that have nothing more to offer than "I'm the greatest, look how good I am". Unfortunately that's exactly what I got on the first track, and the second. The fourth track mixed it up with a song about girls, and how he has sex with all of them, you know because he's the greatest. I pretty much tuned out the lyrics after that, well until Eminem randomly turned up. Ironically he rapped about how he would talk about anything. Honestly the only things I find even mildly interesting in this album are some of the samples chosen.

1/5. This is where rap went downhill. The album has that early 2000s NYC style like Beyoncé uses on her original music. Rap instead of being fun and danced to; it turned into a modge podge of how lazy the community is as well as their concerted efforts to shag as many women as possible.

(Und gleich die nächste, bitte!) Was für ein grundlos von sich selbst überzeugter Schmock. Wenn‘s wenigstens technisch abwechslungsreich wäre, sowohl was den Rap als auch die Musik angeht. Erstaunlich langweilig für solch ein Top 1-Album. Lichtblick ist der Gastauftritt von Eminem, der ihn dabei auch gleich mal an die Wand rapt.

Not at all what I thought it's quite smooth and R&B really. Background music generally so don't understand how it's so groundbreaking. Lots of sampling with rapping over the top. There are a lot of better albums out there surely?

I try to give music the benefit of the doubt, and remember it’s a product of its time. But I was alive in 2001 when this album came out, and some of this stuff was pretty objectionable even back then. In fact, that might have been the point… to challenge societal mores. That’s great and all, but “Girls Girls Girls” is pretty fucking racist and misogynist. Maybe this is my privilege speaking, but there’s a lot here that I find repellent, but probably was pretty common back then. (Maybe it even still is, I don’t listen to a lot of rap.) I guess I was right, though. I still have preconceptions, and I never liked this style of rap, and I’m not likely to start now. Anything I say after that is likely to come off as racist/classist, and I don’t want to give people the wrong idea, so I’ll stop there. That ship might have already sailed. Alas.
