i dont mess w jazz
Day 262 Like this more than most of the other jazz albums I’ve had, mainly on the strength of take 5, not one I’ll likely return to though Highlight Rake Five
jazz again bruh.
Just not that into jazz, obviously these cats are amazing musicians however.
boring
Music for swinging pangolins.
no
Take Five //
Take five okay. Like all jazz the constant hi hat can GTF.
piano, instrumental, chill
- get the impression this is going to be another album that i'll enjoy once and will never think about again; i.e. good album just not my cup of tea - another one i'm giving bonus points for having a dope album cover - first song kinda sounds like a cartoon opening soundtrack - all of them sound like soundtracks actually - again. its lovely and well made its just not what i enjoy 2/5
An interesting album. I'm not used to jazz, but this felt really weird while listening, although it doesn't feel fulfilling to me.
Pleasant background listening, but hard to stay engaged.
Nice music but not my thing
Okei, Take Five er brillefin. Ferdig med ros. Hvordan i alle dager klarer ikke piano og bass å spille sammen? De er på to separate eventyr hver seg gjennom nesten hele albumet. Blir ordentlig surr i toppen av dette...
I don’t like jazz. Therefore, I don’t like this. It’s passable as background music in a nice cafe or bar, but trying to actually listen to it is infuriating. The brushed drums and the seemingly random notes get on my tits. The chirpy brass is annoying too. It’s not a 1 because I can appreciate the skill and the intricacy, but I don’t enjoy it at all.
Hört sich nicht nach ner aufnahme aus 1959 an insgesamt aber alles zu lang
Not my type of music
1 - Blue Rondo à La Turk - (a nice classical influenced piano opening that gradually slinks into a quieter section left by a sax solo. Started strong then ended quieter than I'd like it to) 3.5/5 2 - Strange Meadow Lark (a peaceful and soothing piano piece, sounds rather impressionist to my ears. The brief saxophone sections are a nice touch, maybe a little too mellow) 3.5/5 3 - Take Five (the key track of this album and indeed one of the most recognizable pieces of its time. That 5/4 groove still holds up decades later) 4/5 4 - Three to Get Ready (Another mellow track emphasizing the piano and bass with occasional appearances by the saxophone, though never particularly energetic) 3/5 5 - Kathy's Waltz (a regular 4/4 groove that transitions into a waltz, which is where the album gets its name from. Still a little too background like for me) 3/5 6 - Everybody's Jumpin' (a fine and respectable piece that doesn't really have much going on besides a mid tempo groove. The mellowness has really worn on me. The short drum solo towards the saves the track from being a total bore) 2.5/5 7 - Pick up Sticks (an energetic closer to really bring up the mood of this album. A welcome change from the slow smooth tracks that make up the bulk of this record) 4/5 OVERALL - 6.7/10
Time Out is notable for its use of unconventional time signatures, influenced by the music traditions of Europe and Asia. Given that, it's surprising how normal this sounds for a jazz album. True, it's hard to look back and evaluate what was cutting edge at the time, but this was released the same year as The Shape of Jazz to Come! This is mostly piano and sax over quite bass and drums, non-offensive enough to easily soundtrack an elegant ballroom. Perhaps someone trained in music would catch the abnormalities more than I can. For me, my main impression is that the album feels more academic than emotional. The piano is enjoyable but cold. The sax warms things up a bit, but is never that exciting. A pleasant listen, though I don't feel I know enough about jazz to unlock its secrets.
Ok Replay no
Not bad. 2.4
Jazz is definitely not my genre. Didn't get much out of this album when listening it. It wasn't bad but I just didn't find it interesting. The odd time signatures were cool but as I lack knowledge in music theory it was just nice background noise to me. That being said, 'Strange Meadow Lark' was a strangely beautiful track. Loved how soft it was and how it felt like walking down a path in a nice forest setting. Also, 'Take Five' is iconic. Even I knew that start piano lick. Otherwise, meh album. Cool album art though. 2/5
JAZZ
Lidt for meget trutteri til min smag ...
Turns out it's actually possible to listen to jazz, as long as it doesn't have trumpets. This still has all the hallmarks of jazz - anti-melodic, pointless bass, waffling drums, repetitive - but it's not totally unlistenable.
I'm not smart enough on musical theory to understand the technical greatness of this, though I recognize it was groundbreaking. It was fine, but not my thing.
Interesting. I suppose this is what this is all about , listening to things I would never have come across usually. Not certain I would listen again for choice but it was ok in the background . Take 5, obviously a classic , easier listen than some of the others . Like the album art work .
Great pioneer jazz album with Take Five
This is not really my jam, but I can recognize the talent.
Yo good job making your music interesting! What if you also made it good???
Just ok. I'm not usually a big fan of just instrumental.
Ei vieläkään jazz kolahda. Arvostan muusikkojen taitoa ja kekseliäisyyttä, mutta ei tätä oikein huvittanut kuunnella.
Take Five rules, the rest is not the best
Take Five is a cool Song but in the end it's still just a jazz album and they all sound mostly the same to me
Jazzz nee
i meeaannn
🥇blue rondo à la turk 🥈everybody’s jumpin 🥉pick up sticks
yeah i mean its fine, its good music but its just jazz... as far as jazz goes it is pretty accessible, its not like 90 mins of random crap take five sounds great, but thats probably mostly because ive heard it a bunch before wouldnt be against putting this on just in the background or something if i had some particularly sophisticated people over but idk if im going to listen to it again myself 2.5
1959. This is the sort of crap they had to pretend to enjoy before the Beatles came to save the world.
Eih, jazzia. Ainut jokseenkin mielenkiintoinen biisi tällä albumilla on minulle entuudestaan tuttu Take Five.
It's okay, but a bit boring
Ok
jazz. chato. música que toca em restaurante enquanto vc come sem assunto com as pessoas.
Kinda boring. Only track I really liked was Take Five.
I will say that while orchestra/ jazz/ classical music can be a vibe, this one just wasn’t for me unfortunately.
20 seconds in: i like this music. Fun album with interesting instrumentals. not as interesting to me
I appreciate the musician shit but this genre really doesn't do anything for me. It's Pleasant enough for background noise but that's about it.
Ok
Bof
he escuchado una cancion pero la verdad es que me he aubrrido un poco asi que bueno. pero esta bien no se.
Again just like miles Davis, great jazz to walk to and listen to but to me personally it was like ground breaking jazz to my ears, but it was very nice.
Classical Boring
Definitely interesting to hear this. I'm more familiar with rock related genres, so this is kinda new for me. I have listened to the Vince Guaraldi trio on their Charlie Brown Christmas album and I do like that one. And I like jazz adjacent rock such as Steely Dan. I listened to it 3 times in a row, and it grew on me. I ended up clicking like on 2 of the 7 songs and could see myself adding more over time. I recognized "Take Five" as soon as I heard it - according to Wikipedia it's the most popular Jazz recording of all time. I assume I've just heard it by being alive for 60 years but don't know specifically where I've heard it. I also had a few moments where I noticed that some Billy Joel and Ben Folds songs seem to have been clearly inspired by this. Anyway, I'm glad I listened to it - definitely good for expanding horizons. Liked songs on Spotify: 2/7 Rating: 2/5
not a big fan of jazz although it’s somewhat nice, but not it for me💔
5/10 мілий джазз альбом хз
look I can totally respect it but overall jazz just isnt my genre. Good cooking music though!
Pleasant enough in a Jazz Club ‘Nice!’ way, but not my cup of tea. Take Five is the only track I knew (and it’s good). Also liked ‘Strange Meadow Lark’ as it’s quite pretty.
Some beautiful melodies but they got so lost in the groove it became a whole new song and when they realized it they made no effort to work back to the original piece and would just abruptly slam back into it.
Slow jazz not quite my tempo...
Fine
Nice elevator music
Take Five I already knew, as the intro music to Secret Life of Machines. Don't think instrumental jazz is that interesting for me.
Das hat sicherlich eine Daseinsberechtigung, gibt mir aber wirklich gar nichts.
Etwas besser als Getz/Gilberto aber im Wesentlichen kann ich hier dasselbe sagen. Ist ne 2,5.
Elevator music.
Very cool, very chill, very...wallpaper tbh. I mean, it's good (if not great) at what it does. It's just that what it does isn't really anything close to my cup of tea. So, it's a No from me.
If I'm ever in a "We travelled back in time" or a Star Trek "I'm stuck on the holodeck and it won't let me out until I solve this 1930's crime novel" then I'll know what to put on.
short and memorable
Nice but elevetor's music jsjsja
Not a really big jazz fan, although I've heard Take Five in the past. I think it's good, but just not my taste. As someone pointed out, it feels like one long elevator ride. 2 stars.
I know Take Five and thats about it. There is some no doubt complex music theory in this, the odd time signaturea for a start, but its a bit meh for me. Its what people who dontlisten to jazz think of when they think of jazz unless they are thinling of trad jazz. Its jazz for the Don Draper archetype. I really like the drummer who has a lovely subtle touch and great restraint and Brubeck’s piano isnt bad (prefer Monk, Jimmy Smith, Joe Sample or Ahmad Jamal), but overall the compositions are not anything that I’d want to listen to as an album over and over. I can appreciate the mastery involved in sounding so laid back and effortless with these odd time signatures but it also sems a little souless. Apparently Miles Davis saw them and told Vrubeck ‘you can swing but the reat of your band can’t’ but thwn Miles Davis could be a bit of a dick quick to give a put down. If i was a muso i could probaly learn a lot from this. As a listener, meh.
veelal zenuwachtige muziek, wel wat leuke delen.
Not my favourite jazz record thus far. Recognise the famous track.
Meh
"Take five" är förstås svinbra! Jazzens största hit? Det andra tämligen slätstruket, aldrig dåligt men skvalljazz.
This is the album featuring the classic "Take Five" song, with some nice vibes filling out the rest of the collection Its easy piano-based jazz from the 50's
This one started out far too busy for what I was prepared for. I need to go back and give it another go in a different frame of mind.
Not my genre
It’s fine, music to put on while thinking about other stuff
Forgot it was on
At least this is jazz with decent structure.
weird
Jazz is ok at times like hanging with friends and having drinks. It’s hard to tell when 1 song is nda and another starts
Jazz isn't my thing, but I can appreciate how this was a seminal album for the genre
2.28
Time Out is probably the first jazz album that I wouldn't actively turn off on a repeat listen. There's something really pleasant in Paul Desmond's sax play. This album also has the claim to Take Five which was burned into my head as a kid and I still have affection for. The rest of the album isn't weak, but it's still just a bunch of outdated jazz. It's fine for a listen every now and then but not something I need regular exposure to. I don't mean to write off an entire genre but compared to what else we've been exposed to it just doesn't do it for me most of the time. 1.82 stars
Perfectly servicable jazz, which isn't my favourite genre at all. Take Five was a pleasant track, the rest slid off my brain immediately.
I have an irrational hatred of the hi-hat so this is calculated to irritate me. I also dislike jazz that starts off catchy then wanders into variations that go on for ever. I can tell it’s a really good jazz album but it’s not for me.
I mean, I don't hate it? But it definitely felt like being in a hotel lobby for half an hour.
Much better than a lot of jazz, with some actual narrative in the piano driving things forward. But then some noodling saxophony that did nothing for me,
Cool but too long and monotonous
No, I don't like Jazz.
it's cool but not my thing
Very groovy, It was probably awesome in 1959 but I was a little underwhelmed. I usually prefer music with vocals though so I'm definitely not this albums target audience.
Take 5 is obviously Take 5. But I wish the rest of the tracks actually had the semblance of a song. I think I preferred Bill Evans.
doesn't make me feel like my atoms are in the wrong place like most jazz. too piano forward. mostly fun.
Pleasant enough “light” jazz. Nice.
J - 2/5 Best Track - "Take Five" F - DNL
Couldn’t get into it Sure it’s a great album - maybe another listen is needed at another time
bit elevator music ish
Wait this finished? Wait there was music on? Oh... the "background music #97" album was playing... how could I forget
Nice jazz album but not really my cup of tea overall. Couple of familiar tunes 'Blue Rondo à la Turk' and 'Take Five' that I liked well enough.
Hotel lobby music.
2,1/5
Piano, brass and reed jazz with no vocals. No thanks.
Great jazz classic (e.g take five). just not my vibe best for easy listening
Not a fan of jazz, take five was good as it's well known
Not for me
A little less active(?) than I like my jazz to be, but still quite pleasant
Great music, however couldn't get too into the jazz
Nogal eentonig
Old school great melodies and dynamics. Instrumental jazz album with good energy. Burbeck is the piano player. 55-60s tunes. Unique time signatures
Jazzy, but not Monster’s Inc. jazzy.
You're not extra cool if you like jazz. Just stop it.
I mean, I just don't care for jazz. One tune I'd heard of. Pleasant enough as quasi-musack backround music.
Jazz is not really for me. It's okay though.
I dont know what to say... fine? Not what I started the list for. Take 5 plus 32 more minutes?
Not really a big jazz head but this was alright (Take Five doing some heavy lifting there)
I don’t really get all the 5 ratings… it’s ok. I just don’t get it, I guess
Çokta sevdim denemez. Sıkıcı geldi diyebilirim.
Not my cuppa, but not unpleasant either.
jazz
Another day another Jazz album. Look, I get that people like Jazz and I'm not totally against it, it's just not something that I would put on to purposefully listen to and enjoy. Background music? Sure throw on some Jazz, but to sit and listen and try to dissect a Jazz album is very low on the list of things I want to do with my time.
Außergewöhnliche Taktarten wie 9/8. Anstrengend aber wertvoll.
I like the album cover but not the music. 2 stars or D.
One great song does not make a great album.
Not my jam.
It was good background music, some of the tracks were quite nice. Kathy's Waltz had nice flow and embodied the sound of the album well. It made great concentration music and I would definitely return to it (though maybe skip the first track since it's much higher energy than the rest). But would I listen to it on its own? Eh, probably not.
I can appreciate the musicianship but I just don't like Jazz
Aso vill z boring jazzig. Me als two out by the dave brubeck duett chani nöd geh
This is the best jazz album so far and I definitely prefer the more chill vibe to the loud big band style of jazz, but I still mainly just find it boring. Favorite: Take Five
Wasn't in the mood for this unfortunately
Time Out is one of those albums that probably blew minds when it dropped — odd time signatures, cool jazz vibe, all that. But listening to it now? It just doesn’t hit the same. I can respect what the Dave Brubeck Quartet was going for, but in my opinion, it just hasn’t stood the test of time. It feels more like background music than something that really grabs you. Technically solid, sure, but there’s not much here that makes me want to come back to it. Maybe it was groundbreaking in its day, but now it mostly just feels dated and kind of flat.
Cool for what it was but not my thing
Wasn't that bad, but honestly jazz sounds like background music to me
This was unoffensive hotel lobby music. It was mostly upbeat and didn't go off on many tangents. You wouldn't necessarily notice it but would also be okay if someone changed it. I had heard Take Five and Blue Rondo before, and they were both enjoyable. Strange Meadowlark was good and it reminded me of music in a Charlie Brown movie. Maybe it is just the season but I feel like a lot of the songs gave me undertones of Christmas songs. Reading the explanation it is a big deal album, broke a lot of records for jazz, but honestly I am not sure why. I would almost rather listen to something that is bad and leaves an impression, as opposed to something okay that doesn't leaves little impression.
I might appreciate this album more if I had a better understanding of jazz but mostly I find this lacking in energy and just plain boring. First off... jazz without horns is like a sandwich without bread to me. I mean REAL horns... like trumpet and trombone. The alto sax doesn't cut it. I thought it was a damn clarinet. I really like the main theme parts of Blue Rondo and Take Five. I just don't really care for how they evolve it. Which leaves me feeling like the songs have "moments", but I don't really like it overall. It's boring even for background music.
si tuviese el suficiente conocimiento en jazz y en leer música lo hubiese disfrutado más, pero está bueno.
Jazz album. Easy listening I guess. I probably wouldn't return to it; not girlypop enough for me. I don't have an ear for jazz; half the time I was listening I couldn't tell when one song ended and another began. Pretty sure listening to this ruined my Youtube algorithm too.
Pretty chill, Take Five is decent. Wouldn't choose it, but makes good background listening
I don’t know. Another case of “clearly talented but not for me”. Also where the hell have I heard Take Five before?? It’s driving me nuts
jazz
Back to back jazz, awesome…
Instrumental jazz isn't really my thing but I appreciate the art of it. I think I also resent it because of how difficult I found it to play. HATED playing Take Five but as always it's such an enjoyable listen. Apart from that song, my favourite was Three to Get Ready.
well-known endof50s jazz album with one evergreen, the other tracks.. pretty irritating
This is excellent background music and while I can certainly appreciate that this would have been groundbreaking in 1959, it's just not engrossing enough to warrant deeper listening. Even the more sprightly 'Everybody's Jumping' has me firmly glued to the spot. I will say that this is probably the kind of album you'd throw on while playing games, especially 'pick up sticks'. That happens to be my favourite track on this record, if mostly for the way it evokes memories of the ' Pink Panther theme. Most memorable: Pick up sticks Least memorable: Just about everything else. Overall score: 5.6/10
To me, a non jazz listen, this just sounds like fancy peanut music. Hopefully I can laugh at this review if I ever get into jazz music. 2/5
Apparently I was playing this a little loud because my co-worker mentioned she enjoyed my music from yesterday. So Dave Brubeck gets a thumbs up from Deb! I wonder if that means she has disliked everything else up to this point? She sits just outside my office so I have to believe she's heard a lot of my music. Anyway, Jazz just not my thing. I could pretend, but I won't. Nothing adverse and he kept it short, but it's just not anything I enjoy. I'll give you 2.5 because Deb liked it. 2.5
Was not my vibe but some fun songs with an ocean 11 feel
Jazz. Nice jazz, but still just jazz. & jazz without even one trumpet. 4 / 10
Not my kind of jazz. 2/5
Jazz isn’t for me
Was quite interested to see this here, the title track is one of the few records my parents had when I was growing up. The album as a whole is quite pleasant, but not anything I would expect to buy. Gotta be worth a high 2, possibly more. Will think on it.
A very mellow Jazz album. I now know the name of 'Take Five' and who did it. It's a great tune. The rest is pretty good for what it is. ⭐️ ⭐️
It was not my type of thing , gave me jungle book vibes and no words, if you were into that sort of thing I’d imagine it would be good.
Have to be in the mood. 2/5
It’s a jazz album. Hence the rating.
Take Five has entered the International Canon of tunes that everyone has been fed subliminally and knows aurally - even if they think they don’t. I could have happily listened to five bars of that song rather than five and a half minutes… the rest I appreciate rather than enjoy!
Take Five is an all-time great. The rest have their moments, but I don't love Brubeck as a soloist. Some tunes were even giving me a headache.
Not my cup of tea
I think jazz is shit. This is shit, but at least it's largely inoffensive. I'd still rather listen to some dude's old car glovebox play light jazz than this, though.
yea i need a time out after this...
Not for me
Waiting rooms are fine.
one of these songs was in pleasantville but the rest.... i'm sorry i'm so bored
Better than some of the other jazz stuff I've heard so far but this genre on its own really just isn't for me. At least it was short.
Pleasant enough, but very much background music for me. Nothing stood out.
Not much of a casually listen to jazz by myself person but I can respeck
okuuu 7/10
#222. Jazz. Jazzy jazz. Jazz that has jazzed in the same way that every other jazz has ever jazzed. 2/5: jazz
I’ve listened to this a few times in the past. Not my thing but it’s a great example of how to make odd time signatures easy to listen to
I fucking hate jazz. (But I appreciate the talent of the musicians)
Alright
Not my cup of tea
Never heard of them, so I didn't know what to expect, but I'll be honest I was NOT in the mood for an instrumental only album. But putting that aside, great songs, but very 'that jazzy songs that play in the background of some fancy restaurant'. Talented musicians though that's the only reason it's not getting just 1 star to not disrespect them!
ahh. I last heard take 5 at a band concert at the local park.. very influential. ok for backround
Nice
Fun, technically impressive and cool jazz for general listeners. Plays a lot with time signatures; I saw a live version of this album from a tribute band and really enjoyed it. Feels like a glass of ice water on a grand piano.
Ba dum bum bum bum bum bum core
I remain convinced that jazz functions perfectly well, great even!, as background music and totally fails when "actively" listened to. This is the case here, this would be cool in a bar when you're hanging out. On its own, it's got precious little going for it. The songs feel like they have no structure so you never know where you are. Is it still the same song? Are you 20 minutes into the album? Who knows, certainly not me.
I remember my Dad having this album when I was a pre-teen. It has it's moments but I didn't particularly like it then and my opinion hasn't changed.
*sighs heavily* Yet more jazz.
I remember when Simon Cowell used “elevator music” as an insult on American Idol. Well, here we have it. Everybody Jumpin’, while an obvious predecessor to “Jump On It”, just doesn’t have the same energy. Calming and fine to have in the background, but nothing I’ll be returning to with any measurable amount of excitement.
When it started I felt like I was in 101 Dalmatians. The first few songs were definitely the poppiest, with discernible, catchy riffs. The remainder really blended together for me. It’s timeless though, everything from the production quality on felt solid and clean. Unfortunately, I feel like this kind of album is played out now, just because it has been parodied so much in pop culture. I can imagine when it came out it was groundbreaking though.
Just passable. Sounded a lot like the Charlie Brown song.
Didn’t finish. Another jazz album.
there was nothing wrong with this and yet here we are could i write poetry to this? n
Niceish jazz, good musicianship and cool rhythms, wasn't a massive fan though
purtroppo anche qui manca Kendrick lamar
It’s jazz.
Jazz man!!! Easy listening
Not a jazz fan.
Like elevator music
I dont like jazz
First album
Not a huge fan of classical music. But I enjoyed the feel of it!
This was some perfectly fine jazz that I'll never listen to again. I didn't dislike it, and I'm trying to be open-minded towards genres that I wouldn't seek out on my own, but I can't really say I enjoyed this. 2.5.
Jazzy instrumental
Im finding it difficult to see what this offers over other Jazz albums. Its not bad, but there is nothing stand out
2+ Stars (6/15)
Jazz is not my favorite.
No words
wicked cover
Cool concept behind the album (uncommon jazz time signatures) that I'm nowhere near technically-adept enough to truly appreciate. Nothing offensive or unlikeable about this music, but it's a bore. I do enjoy the "cool" jazz tonality a lot more than traditional jazz. Favorite track: Take Five (the only one Brubeck didn't write lol!)
A whole album of jazz is always tough
I like Dave Brubeck more than most jazz musicians and I don’t like Dave Brubeck all that much
Snoozefest
I really want to be *into* jazz, but it hasn't quite clicked for me yet. I remember learning about this album in a college music class, and how iconic "Take Five" is. So as iconic as this album is, I struggle to give it a high rating for me, but I can understand its cultural significance for the time. Establishing some criteria for going forward for me: 5-all bangers, top to bottom a great album 4-mostly bangers (75%?), would happily revisit this album 3-like about half of it, but not a standout album 2-only like a couple of songs 1-dislike the album overall, hardly any songs I like
# 93 : Jazz for the masses…. I can listen to it, it's a bit cool, but still not for me. Only 7 songs yet the album seems to go on for ever! Favourite Track : Take Five Listened : 23/10/2023
Well suppose its a thing, nit mine though.
Not for me.
I'm sure this is good jazz.
Music, like any other form of art, is subjective, so it’s perfectly fine for you to be in the same boat as me and not like this album
Uuuugh. Boooorinng. Minus one for saxophone solos. Minus one for skeezy lounge vibes. And minus one for being just soooo booooring. You get to keep two stars because you're all clearly good musicians. I just... you know... wish you'd done something more interesting with said talent.
jazz.
It’s just jazz music. No lyrics so I’m not that surprised I didn’t like it. However…..! I feel like it’s the exact right kind of boring that would probably be really effective to listen to while studying. So I may actually listen to it again.
Urgh jazz. At least they knew how to play their instruments and it wasn't a load of screeching instruments drowning each other out. It was short too which helped
Cool album cover. Can't dig the music.
Really not my thing. I recognised take five from somewhere and it was actually decent, but the rest bring and forgettable.
It's good but just not my style of music
Verdammt talentierti Musiker. Sicher usserordentlich. Aber i mine Ohre di sprichwlrtlichi Liftmusig. 2 Stern.
Sounds like a art picture.
Jazz!?! Don't know if I'm ready, or even in the mood, but what the hell. First track: familiar. Not in the mood. Apple "starred" track, "Take Five". Yeah, I've heard this: Nice jazz. Had to hear Disc 2, Track 1: "St. Lous Blues". Meh.
Not really a jazz fan, but this album has the classic "Blue Rondo à la Turk" and the unforgettable "Take Five"; the rest of the album - meh!
Musicians are great. Style is not. 2/5
boring
Ännu mera jazz. Dock en ganska schysst platta.
Jazz - if I wanted to listen to this kind of noise I would let my child have at the iPad, iPod touch and telly while on a Teams meet. No. Being able to keep time while others ignore the beat is not big or clever.
i dont like jazz that much
Not a huge jazz fan.
With this I’ve now had three albums from the 1950s all three of which are jazz records… This album really isn’t my kind of music, if there’s one thing I’ve learned from the generator all instrumental music will quite possibly never work with me, all if it lacks the emotion that can come with a half decent lead singer but I can appreciate the talent that’s put in and I bet without a singer to fuck it all up album’s are probably funner to make when all instrumental. Most of the tracks kinda passed through in one ear out the other but I think I’ve actually herd take five before so that one stuck with me a tiny bit more. But while they all passed through in one ear out the other I must admit that the playing on here is brilliant! It’s still only a 2/5 for me but for anyone who likes this kinda music this album should be an essential.
This made me fall asleep. I would love to listen to this live but not a recording.
Not a fan of old jazz.
Too jazzy
Based on your guys' reviews i was expected a banger of an album. This is just basic 1950s music? I dont see anything special about this at all. Decent background music im sure. 4/10
Not as bad as I feared.
Hard to rate. Probably important, but now sounds like cartoon themes
It's nice. 2.5/5
не люблю джаз
Meh, not rlly into jazz
It was worth listening to at least once, I think. Maybe good for background music as well, but really stand out for me.
Richard Cheese, zonder Richard… niet heel leuk dus…
Leuk, voor een keer
OK. Liked the vibe initially but got a bit borning
Another hard to rate album. I guess its a important jazz album to fans and musicians in the genre but I only enjoyed it in chunks and would often find myself just unable to focus on it. It's not bad really. It would probably make a good background album for atmosphere but I could never find myself listening to it for pleasure. A 2 I guess but it really isn't so bad.
Ihan chilliä menoa vaikkakin tämä genre ei edelleenkään hivele omaa sävelkorvaa(?).
I don't usually listen to Jazz so this is definitely out of my wheelhouse but I've enjoyed the other Jazz records I've gotten on here more than this one. The only track that really stuck out to me was "Take Five". Most of it kind faded into the background. Per wikipedia I guess this is considered "cool jazz" with relaxed tempos and a lighter tone. That makes sense - probably just not the right Jazz for me (I typically favor more intense music). Your milage may vary.
Apparently required listening for using unusual time signatures (at the time). I don't mind a coffeehouse record, but this coffeehouse is a bit too academic. Everyone here considers themselves an intellectual (they are). The cappuccino is too dry. C-
Never heard of this but 1959? that was a while ago. Trying to guess by the cover... maybe jazz? or "swing"? Ok it's jazz. Bit wacky, bit experimental, it's ok. End thoughts: I pretty much forgot it was going. That isn't exactly the mark of a good album. It didn't shit me, but it was completely forgettable. 2/5.
I actually really like Jazz. Jazz musicians understand their craft at a level most people will never appreciate. You have to really know music and your instrument in order to step on stage without knowing what you're going to do - if that makes sense. BUT - to me - Jazz shouldn't really be recorded. It's meant to be listened to live. AND, if you're going to record it, it should be a live recording, in my humble opinion. I like "dirty" jazz - I want to hear mistakes and guys talking to each other while they're playing. Dave and the rest of the quartet are truly talented musicians, but this seemed over-produced for a jazz album - and maybe a little self-indulgent (almost half the songs featured only Dave, not the quartet).
Nope. Not for me.
It's the YA house open music
Indifferent
Good elevator music
Great background music. Not my jam, but it's a lot of fun. If I hosted dinner parties, I would be all over this.
Meh
I just don't love jazz.
Couldn't finish it. Wasn't very interested.
Too much Jazz. But still good on a music level.
It was ok in the background but it did not spark joy. Funny time signatures I didn't get what that did
Don’t really like jazz
Kinda disappointed. Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five are catchy but overall I guess I'm not all that into this kind of cool jazz.
Not my mood today.
It’s a no from me dawg
Nunca tinha ouvido jazz e não sabia se gostava, agora ouvi e sei que não gosto.
Nope
Noise pollution
jazz ei oikein iske
If anxiety was an album.
I’m sorry to all the jazz heads, but this all sounds the same to me. plus, Take Five is waaaaaaaaaayyyyy overplayed for me to still like it. 2/10
this felt like it was never ending
0/7 bekannt 3/10 Beste Songs: Blue rondo a la Turk, take five, Kathys waltz War zwar minimal besser als die anderen Alben aber WARUM SO VIEL JASS?
Not a huge fan of jazz but this was pretty groovy ! Fav song is ‘Kathy’s Waltz’.
Extra confirmation that jazz really isn’t my thing but it’s not unbearable.
dont care for jazz
I hate jazz. This was no exception.
Booooo
I hate it
Too trad/lounge for me I’m afraid - rounders as opposed to cricket as it were. 2/10. Tom.
Love this but I am a fan of jazz although this is very accessible and would recommend to people who say they don’t like jazz.
Forgettable
i feel like jazz never drops. it’s too continuous. the chord progressions don’t sit right with me. it feels dissonant. had a hard time listening and couldn’t finish. boring af.
Quite a distracting album - jumpy and felt almost patchy in parts. I understand that's the style of the music but it wasn't to my taste. Would not listen again by choice.
don't like Jazz
Apart from Take 5 just noodly jazz!
I hate this album!! I will tell you why. Its boring. None of them are engaging soloists. Particularly Paul Desmond, he just sounds like he's practicing scales. Take Five, the best selling jazz song of all time, is practically one groove for the whole song. There is so much way better and much more interesting jazz out there. I could go full elitist and talk about how none of them have ever heard of outside playing, but Erroll Garner, Cannonball Adderley, and Oscar Peterson prove that that doesn't matter. Blue Rondo is a great tune though, I wish it had better players on it. What fucks me off far more about this record however is its mythos. Its the best selling jazz record of all time at over 2M copies, and its so often held up as incredibly innovative and formative for the genre. Anybody who knows anything about jazz history knows that that is just not true! The harmony is ofc completely standard, and the time signature stuff is not even new either! The real reason that this album sold so well and is so well regarded, and again anybody who knows anything about jazz history can tell you this, is because Dave Brubeck (and 2/3 of his band) was white!!! The record and radio industries at the time were segregated (even in the north!) and it was near impossible for black artists (who invented jazz and had been doing everything on this record and so so so much more for decades) to break out into the American mainstream because of severe systemic racism and segregation. This album isn't good, don't listen to it, stop lapping up the racist lie, and fuck Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond culture vultures I spit on them
More fucking jazz 🤢
I knew and like take Five, but I absolutely hated the rest.
Gosh, jazz is just crap isn’t it.
DNF
Probably the best jazz record thus far from the list...but still not great. It has the cool vibe and I think I've heard "Take Five" before which carries the album with its sleuthy tone. The Dave Brubeck Quartet is certainly better than The Bill Evans Trio...extra guy helps I guess. Not too mad about taking some Time Out to hear this one but it's still only getting a 1.2 star rating.
Didn’t care for the jazz
One day soon, this project will realise that no amount of offering me jazz will make me like the genre, and we’ll all be happier for it.
nope
Not for me
