Banging music

Oh THIS is where the sexytimes movie music comes from! This was nice, a little too sexy for a Monday morning.

The title track towers above the rest of this a fair bit, to the extent that songs that might otherwise sound amazing just sound like less authentic versions of it. Still, it's MG at his sexiest, smoothest and coolest. Obviously it doesn't have the emotional punch of What's Going On, nor the meaning, but that's not to say that it isn't very good.

wish i could've had a sultrier environment to listen to this in than my sterile office. ok marvin i see what you're talking about.

Classic and good vibes all around

Very groovy

Great marvin album. Definetly overlooked compared to whats going on. Best track - lets get it on

A master class in soul. This is one of the milestone records in music, produced by a musician that was taken far too early from us. The gentle touch this record has is uncanny; Marvin is truly on his own. It's such a beautifully-composed record that will forever be timeless. The instrumentation paired with his vocals is mesmeric. Fantastic record.

Baby-making music, schlechter als what's going on tho

The rare album that cements itself as a keeper literally in the first notes - that riff and the title track alone set the table. Nothing after the initial track could approach that - nor does - which puts it a notch below What's Going On. It's not perfect especially that there's essentially a repeat ("Keep Gettin' It On") song :P, it gets a little ridiculous lyrically (um..."You Sure Love to Ball" what) and the last cut is too awash with strings but the album's best make this a classic. Everyone talks about the lyrics (and hmm, I did too) but the music is what carries it. Band members and/or musicians should be on the cover dammit - James Jamerson (bass) especially. 8/10 4 stars

solid album, title track slaps so hard

It's really good, saying this for a genre I'm not well versed in. Good groove from the first song on. Incredible vocals. Bass line is catchy and noticeable. It could be background music or active listening. 4/5

Дуже сексі і хорні альбом. Навіть аж занадто. Весь переслуховувати буду навряд, а ось декілька пісень звідти прям вау.

A different kind of social consciousness—raising your libido between the sheets instead of your fist in the streets—but no less revolutionary than What’s Going On. Recorded mostly live with Motown’s tightest players, and that tight playing earns the 4.

Marvin having a ball.

Great. Enjoyed

Far too sexy for me. Makes me feel uncomfortable. Fuck knows what that says about me. 4⭐️

1001 Albums #21 gooood

Smooooth. 4/5

Never listened to Marvin gaye, except for the iconic Aint not mountain high enough. Very very sexy and very very good. Loved this album mostly. I will definitely re-listen to some of the tracks on here again.

If I had a nickel for every song on this album explicitly about “getting it on” I’d have two nickels, which is not a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice

I like this Gaye guy, he’s pretty good.

Golden oldie. Marvin Gaye is the master of his time

Awesome.

I wonder how many children we born because of this album.

3.5 rounded up groovy as hell but unfortunately nothing else he does will ever live up to what’s going on highlights: let’s get it on, if i should die tonight, come get to this (nov 27 2024)

This might be the gold standard for getting down music. That lead single knows what's about to happen.

As much as I'm not really a fan of this type of music, and Gaye can be hit or miss for me, there's something about the songs on this album. There's a reason that it's the joke music put on in the movies for when the main characters are going to be ... intimate. Because just hearing the opening of the title track, everyone is the same headspace. Jack Black doing his cover of it in High Fidelity is a such a highlight of that movie, too.

Baby making music.

Gillar :)

LET'S GET IT OOOOOON!

Really nice listen. Never heard this album outside of the first minute of Let's Get It On. Just some nice soul music.

Pretty smooth. Let's get it on is an obvious banger, but the remainder of the album gets a bit stale.

I like this, it's a really chilled and soulful time. I like the backing violins and sax bringing some extra oomph, and he's got such a great voice, sugar.

Amazing album omgg currently a 9-10 for me just spectacular album favs are title track and keep getting it on but every song is so funky with such a fun album cover love to see the samples come back baby and spaceship on distant lover hard to decide between for or 5 but i choose 5 because it's closer

groovin

one of his great "____'s G_____ On" records. this one's a concept album about a guy who likes to fuck. i like to imagine the look on the faces of the guys behind the console when marv dropped "stop beatin' 'round the bush." the title track remains funny, horny, ecstatic, unimpeachable, even after so many bad movie needle drops have turned it into a cliché. funnier and hornier still is the reprise "keep gettin' it on" at the end of side a, reminding you that he is, indeed, still gettin' it on ten minutes later. fucks my shit up everytime. love the drums at the end of "please don't stay." love the little red toque. love the pacman-ass typeface on the cover. last record he told us "god is love" and here he tells us sex is love. law of commutativity. we're all sensitive people with so much to give.

Yeah that will get it done

A very soulful album. My favourite song was Please Don't Stay, I love the backing vocals especially.

Simple... Love making music.

Really solid album with a lot of cool songs. 4.5 but just on the 4 side.

Great voice, nice songs, but I wasn't blown away. Nice shirt album though!

Sometimes it’s hard to listen to an album decades after, forgetting how edgy and groundbreaking it was at the time. It’s amazing how Gaye took his trauma and used this album to focus on the thing that brought him fear but reframe it in a way where sex between people who Love one another is beautiful and should be celebrated. Sonically, there are so many things here that not only influence slow jams, R &B, and hip hop. This a funky soulful album that I listened to with new ears and beyond the cliches. Maybe bc of Kanye’s sampling of it, but Distant Lover is by far my favorite track on this album but I absolutely love the usage of Keep Getting in On midway through this album.

sex, the album

Short and sweet

I only knew the title track, which I've never really listened to carefully, and man it's great. Basically all of these songs are about bonin' lol, but man they're really great, he's got such a great voice and the songs are so god damn groovy. Overall a pretty awesome album, maybe a liiiittttle bit too "smooth" throughout, but it's still great.

Respect to Gaye for putting a sequel to his song within the same goddamn album. He must really like gettin' it on.

Classic. Couple tracks that tread the same ground, but it's a groove that doesn't overstay its welcome. 4.5/5

Marvellous Marvin Gaye - Nothing bad about this, not usually my thing but very nice to listen to

sexy soul music; the first track is known to most any person as the first thing you think of when you think of "baby-making music". every single track is smooth, sensual, and seductive. behind the pleasant sound lies a bit of reflection; some of the tracks are made for lying down and thinking about life. it's a good enough time for a guy like me.

Might just believe in love again

Thoughts are the same as usual, still love it. Not my favorite Gaye album of the 70s by any means but still amazing on its own right Kinda funny how Let's Get It On and Distant Lover (the big songs on the album more or less) aren't really my favorites though. Both immortal tracks but i think I've heard those first few notes in a Reese's commercial one too many times If I Should Die Tonight is a testament to soul music being the smoothest shit known to man and i will not accept any slander of it. Please Don't Stay is also up there, that one only grows on me with each listen 8/10

So smooth

Not the ideal album to listen to alone with your dog, but iconic.

Smooth sexy album responsible for a lot of babies.

aka baby makin’ music. Good listen!

great vibes throughout

A good album, I liked Let's Get air On and If I Should Die Tonight.

Sexual

A really solid album. I loved the percussion and the lil funk/psych guitar blips throughout. Not to mention Marvin’s expressive, strong vocals. Favorite song(s): Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away), Distant Lover Least favorite: Just to Keep You Satisfied Knew before? No

That's Marvin Gaye alright. This feels like his pinnacle classic most iconic album. It's interesting to listen through this album later on in the 1001 albums exercise, as by now I have listened to and learned about Here, My Dear where Gaye is airing his dirty laundry. I find this artist to be an interesting and very human figure.

- Not sure if many songs truly stand out on their own, except for the couple that I have heard in movies time and time again as a stand-in for sexual chemistry. But this whole album is a pleasant vibe. - Gaye's voice is unquestionably beautiful. And the sheer comfort that comes with the orchestral backing is easy to chill to. - Almost downgraded this for having a song called "You Sure Love To Ball," complete with a woman moaning as an introduction. But, it is ballsy...no pun intended.

Good vibes

It's Marvin Gaye!

Short and sweet

hätte ich vielleicht nicht im Bus hören sollen sondern bei rotem Licht zuhause

Let's Get It On was actually really great for what it was. I know this album is primarily known for it's title track and that track's meme status but it is still a really good track and the other tracks here are great as well. The actual music here was really beautiful in places and features what probably will be the closest that we will ever get to having classical music on this list. Marvin's voice also was the perfect kind of voice for this album as it provided the romantic feel that the album needed. And none of the songs are bad either so it is a great album all around. Best Song: If I Should Die Tonight Worst Song: Keep Gettin' It On

Smooth, sultry, a great soul album.

Let’s Get It On 1973

Endlich mal wieder was hörbares. Gute Musik und klasse Musiker

It is a nice sensual album, but hard not to compare it to whats going on. Like that it was made for love.

Banging album. Lots of hits.

good vibes fun to listen to feel very happy

A really great album, I've always loved this one. Listening to it all the way through still hasn't changed my feelings about it

Pure soul

How many babies were made to this album??? It's good soulful music, but Keep Gettin' It On sounded like a reworked version of Let's Get It On and Distint Lover's chord progression sounded very similar to What's Going On to me. Even with this, it's a really good album. Liked Songs Added: - Let's Get It On

Short and sweet. Felt like one big song, which I think is a good thing. Very cohesive.

This album is nothing but pure sexy fire.

As usual very well put together album from Marvin Gaye, it is all a bit in the same tempo a small bit of variety would have been a 5 but instead 4.5*

Sexy! 4/5

i forgot he made that song sexy af omg kanye sampled distant lover thats so cool 454 SAMPLED JUST TO KEEP YOU SASTISFIED! PLEASE LISTEN TO 4 REAL BY 454 ITS SOO GOOOOOOOOD

Weer zeer smooth

This one was soo smooth and romantic. This definitely has a place on this list. The opening track speaks for itself.

Enjoyed it, nice to listen to when mellowing out.

It was good. Not so good that I want to listen to any of it again, but I enjoyed it at the time.

One of the smoothest and sexiest records in existence.

Such a fun album. Its easy to listen to this and take it at face value, but when you dig deep and listen to all of the influences come together, its a really cool and well put together album. Some songs are straight jazz, where others are funk, and then soul, I can definitely pick up some doo wop and Phil Spector's Wall of Sound and early pop music. And then I guess to just add that everyone of these songs is 100% about sex. It's kind of amazing. The whole album really does stand on its own. I kind of groove out to every song and just be content and happy that its on. Its a very human record in that way. If I were to pick one song though, Let's Get it On is hands down the winner. The guitar intro the grooves, the religious undertones relating it all back to sex. Its almost a perfect song.

Soulful and deep. The title track is the big one but I'm enjoying Please Don't Stay, especially the drumming. If I Should Die Tonight slows things down more and walks on the edge of sappy, but doesn't cross it. The backing strings help. Keep Gettin' It On is next with the tempo brought back up and the rhythm section is impeccable again. On the back half, Distant Lover is a standout, slow but moodier. You Sure Love To Ball as well with the interplay of bass, strings and sax. There's no real duds here. The basslines never stop. I can't decide but if you want to give this 5 stars I'm not mad.

Famously, this album is thought of as the soundtrack to sex, and probably has been more times than we can count. You only need to listen to the first three notes of the album to evoke images (both serious and comedic) of a provocatively dressed person in seductive poses. I honestly can't think of any song that better represents sex than 'Let's Get it On'. The rest of the album continues the themes of passion and intimacy that Gaye became famous for and it holds up as a classic. More interesting is the background to the album, which is worth reading. But fair warning, that this next section will definitely kill the mood for you. I honestly would have never guessed that Marvin Gaye was ever traumatized about sex from his preacher father. The story really adds so much to what the album represents. We all know it's a celebration of sex and love, but who knew that this was actually about healing for Marvin Gaye as well? Turning sex into something healthy and beautiful in constrast to the demonized view he'd been given in childhood. The story gets crazier when you realize that his father, who he's clearly rebelling against here, would kill him about a decade after this release. However, you look at it, as a soundtrack to sex, or as a lighter chapter in a very difficult, tortured life, 'Let's Get It On' is an indisputable classic.

A primeira de fato é conhecida. Algumas da pra transar fofo tomando um vinho. Faz jus ao gênero Soul e bem produzido.

PEDRADA.

As the opening notes started the mood was set. The music was played to death to insinuate sex, but I really wonder how this sounded when it was new and without the current direct link to sex. Overall the album was smooth and enjoyable

His 3rd best but a classic

Motown sound supreme. What an amazing singer.

Too horny

A great horny album but devastating back story. Learned a lot about Marvin Gaye on my flight

Marvin just couldn't stop getting it on. Very cohesive, probably the first album that comes to mind when one thinks of "mood-making music." Kanye West samples; here's one for example: "Distant Lover" → "Spaceship"

I mean… put the record on and do what it says. You’re not gonna find better background music than this! Only lonely people read reviews while Marvin is singing.

This album is fantastic. It exactly fit the mood of what I wanted today. I'm flabbergasted that this is his 13th!!! album!

No problems with this. Unbelievable vibes so sexy. Idk how many of these songs I’d put on over and over but as a vibe and an album I have no notes.

Nice album maybe sullied by some wind coming in from an open car window. No A/C :( Very very cohesive album. Must relisten

Well, this is just literal sex being directly injected into my brain. Jizzed instantly, thank you Marvin Gaye. I was expecting this to just be one giant hit followed by some random boring filler, but it's actually really good all the way through. Love to see it.

listened to this on my last attempt to do this. Great one, don't like as much as What's Goin On but still some bangers.

Starts strong, and ends softly, much like the act he sings so much about on this album.

The closest thing to sex i've ever heard. A concept album where the concept is "I'm fucking horny". Beautiful arrangements, unwavering in tone and a voice that gives you tingles. I loved it, but not an album i'd play unless I was close to a bed. It's worth repeating how perfect his voice is, only Jeff Buckley could compare

I already knew the title song but was not previously familiar with any of the other tracks on this album. It's very good. I like the sound and the fact that there is an overall theme to the album. I would not say this album is as good as What's Going On but it is a good listen.

An absolute classic. Super soulful and sensual. 4.5/5

In my memory a 5-star album, but am not sure anymore whether it is in the same league as What's Going On and Here, My Dear.

Pretty great mood music.

You're gonna see a lot of reviews making sex jokes and, I mean, rightfully so: the title track has essentially become an audio punchline for fucking. Which, I mean, there's a reason that is: it works. This is an album drenched in sweat, but still delicate and vulnerable. It's not full-speed-ahead fucking, it's "light the candles and spread some rose petals" fucking. And it even ends in tragedy! "Just To Keep You Satisfied" caught me completely off guard, having never heard the record before. If I have a few minor complaints, it is a little one vibe, and revisiting "Let's Get It On" with "Keep Gettin' It On" feels like dipping back into a dry well. But it's a fucking great album, anyway, and a great fucking album. Favorite tracks: "Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away)", "Just To Keep You Satisfied"

I like his singing better when he's not singing super high. Love the bass on here. It's very easy listening, which also kind of means nothing stands out too much. May revisit this

This album was playing in the car when I drove past a fertility clinic. Now i've been named in a class action paternity suit. Thanks Marvin...

7.5/10. Smooth music. It's really revolutionary, but it isn't my favourite album. :)

Oh my. Getting it on...loving to ball...plus a load of sadness in there.

What an opening song.. Possibly best soul song in the history, and that comes from the person that has no knowledge of the genre at all. Tge rest of the album is pretty solid, but nothing special. I like What's Going On more, but it's still pretty good.

A fun blend of sexy and heartfelt. I've never listened to much soul music, but this was a really great listen. I do feel the album suffers from a small amount of bloat, which is unfortunate given the shorter runtime, but an easy listen from start to finish. Top tracks: Let's Get It On, Come Get To This, Just To Keep You Satisfied

the man is smooooooove. i'm not sure what else i can say about this album - it's just smooth from start to finish. it's not entirely to my taste, but i definitely appreciate the style. i don't mean only the style of music, i mean the inherent *style* present here. it's something you either have or don't; it can't be faked, can't be taught, certainly can't be bought. and man, does he have it.

A lotta good stuff in a small package. Favourite track: Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away).

Damn. Just… damn.

Instant coolness generator album

Smooth and sexy. Highlights: Let’s Get It On, Come Get to This.

I may be presuming too much here but I think, and this is only speculation mind you, that this Marvin Gaye fella might have been singing about the colloquial act known as sexual intercourse during the duration of this album.

This sexy, lovin' soul music isn't my favorite genre by any means, but this album does it really well. Very quality. Occasionally makes me cringe but more often I found it quite nice

classic saucy jams and love songs. extremely awkward to listen to whilst extracting RNA from parasitic worms though

very solid soul album. because of how often i heard the title track, it really didnt hit as hard as it wouldve as a first listen. the songs on here were all pretty consistent and none really seemed that dull. 4 personal favs: please dont stay, if i should die tonight, come get to this

Pretty good, especially the first 3 tracks. Gets a little same-y after that, but it's well crafted overall.

Let’s Get It On might be the sexist album of all time and for its contributions to mankind it probably deserves a 4. I think I liked it better than his other 2. I respected Gaye but he’s not my thing. I’m giving this a 4 out of respect and a bit of a life-time achievement award 7.9/10

Fun album. Didn't listen all that closely, but much preferred it to "What's Going On?"

Decent! Made me want to get it on!

My dog is dry humping the cat. Make it stop Marvin, make it stop!

80/100 One of the best Soul albums I've ever heard

Quite a varied album, echoing some of the motifs of Let’s Get It In whilst ushering in the new sound of sexual soul.

it worked

適合晚上與老公開瓶紅酒🍷 邊聽邊跳舞享受的專輯

Delicious soul album.

FIRE FIRE FIRE BANGERZ (im freakin my shit)

I like this playlist, the songs are pretty similar to each other, slow and chill. 7.5/10

hellll yeaaahhhhhh helllll yeaaaahhhh im jorking it respectful 3.5 though

Nigga 🔥

Sexy as silk chocolate

Glad I can finally point out that the sample for Kanye West’s Spaceship comes from Distant Lover. He really gave up the whole socially conscious angle and just decided to sing about sex, and the songs are good. Favorites are Let’s Get It On, Keep Gettin’ It On, and Distant Lover.

damn im horny wtf. This was HOTT as fuck i loved it lowkey. So. i'll have to listen to it again to get the top 3 sorry !

I think this album is about fucking.

Classic r&b. Not much to say about this one. It’s well done, short and sweet.

Real good album. Marvin Gaye is amazing. Drums are phenomenal. Only reason it’s not a 5 is it gets a little old. Theirs not a whole lot of variety between songs which makes it a little boring a tiresome but the short run time of only a little over a half hour means it doesn’t hurt it that much. Also “You Sure Love To Ball” is Freakyyy

So smooth, so good. Classic.

This record reminded me of the Nirvana song Moist Vagina.

Classic album that has inspired people all over the world

Smooth and sexy!

It's a really good album. But the tracks are a bit too similar to each other. The title track is my favourite. I guess sometimes you have to put the best one first. This is my best week so far. 4 stars for Let's Get it On".

Very good album. Great singing and instrumentation. Not really my style though so I don't know if it is really something I would ever really return to again. low 4

So sorry Mr Gaye I misunderstood your game

it's exactly what they say it is

Excellent vibe of an album. Definitely deserves the praise it's gotten.

Gear: Fostex TH610 / Dunu SA6 Artwork: 70s Hipster Flash Mix: smoooooth ⛲ Musik: reduziert die überwältigend zeitlose Message und Sozialbewusstsein eines "What's Going On" auf das wirklich Wesentliche: "👉👌-The Album" Wertung: 🍆🍆🍆🍆/5

Groovy

It was very nice, intricately orchestrated, very precise.

Relaxing, soothing, exquisite sound mix

This was one I had to hear twice to decide about. One of the benefits these shorter albums get more frequently. On the initial listen I think I was expecting more of it to be upbeat somehow? I don't know why exactly since I am not all that familiar with his music other than Let's Get It On. But no, it's smooth and a bit funky. Once I got over it not sounding how I expected I quite liked it. It's not an all the time listen but one I would certainly put on in the right mood. Highlights were Let's Get It On, Keep Gettin' It On, You Sure Love To Ball, and Just To Keep You Satisfied.

Absolutamente sexy

Mood music, perfect for ahem a certain mood.

Other than the "Let's Get It On" song, I don't think I've ever heard this album in full. Great album (not my normal listen) - music is excellent through out. Can get a little too mid tempo soul ballad-y for me at times. As someone who loathes "concept" albums, I do wonder if a mix of these songs with the "What's Going On" songs would have yielded a more potent pair of albums addressing both social and sexual issues/themes. And making for a more satisfying overall listening experience.

Man what a start. Does feel a little dragging after that and kinda ends with a whimper but damn what a song. Carries the album.

I dare you not to enjoy this album.

Let's Get It On.Soul, funk.

You could argue that this album can cure a bloated stomach, a headache or back pain… but apparantly not if your spouse is older than 35 yrs. Thus only 4/5

You know you've done something special when the first four notes of your album are, 40+ years later, still the go-to signifier of horniness.

Marvin Gaye is great, and I liked this album quite a bit. My favorite songs are “Let’s Get It On” (an absolute classic) and “Distant Lover.” The last 2 songs really drag on too long, and that’s my main criticism here. But overall still enjoyed this album a lot.

Great album. Hard to quantify. At this point in life probably best as a late night, after party vibe album.

easy listen, sexy album

I'VE BEEN REALLY TRYING BABY!!!! I feel like I am being reborn. Why have I never like ever listened to Soul???? So sexual I feel like I can't listen to this in public... Like... the beginning of You Sure Love to Ball? No way that is playing on the house Sonos in front of my MOTHER. Anyways, really really good. 8.7/10

A classic album. A soulful album. A sensual album.

Smooth, sultry soul. Enjoyable, if not the most creative songwriting from the era (looking at you Bill Withers). Looking forward to What's Going On.

Angelina's uncle unexpectedly died today which does not put one in a particularly sensual mood. Under better circumstances I would give it a 5, but today it's only a 4.

I'm surprised to say that I didn't like this album as much as I thought I would. It was very good, and I'd definitely listen to it again, but I was expecting to be blown away. The first song, Let's Get It On, was the best one, and I felt that the rest of the album took a step down from there. I enjoyed Keep Gettin' It On and Come Get To This as well. This is a soulful sexy album, and I'm only being negative because I expected the world from it. That's on me. 8/10

This Album has famous songs that I have heard before. Mentions specials: Let's get in on

Beautiful. Best tracks are Let’s Get It On and Keep Gettin’ It On 4/5

Classic Marvin

Thought this was great and during the first three songs I was considering giving this a 5 as like Stevie wonder and Janelle monae there have been points where Marvin SOARS - although the rest of the album didn’t really surprise me in any way so it never really elevated itself after the first three songs Special shout out to the second track “please don’t stay (once you go away)” proving extra poignant when out with holly

SMOOTH, Marvin. Very smooth. The transition from soul to funk can almost be physically felt whilst listening to Let's Get It On. It's uplifting, but then ends on a downer. Oh dear. Poor Marv. He was a... troubled man. I desperately miss him.

Great instrumentation throughout the whole album.

On this album, Gaye really wants to get it on and keep getting it on. He really lets you know where his intentions lie instead of beating around the bush.

This is a standard

Soothing

Classic Marvin Gaye

this is the album marvin gaye's voice was made for!!! thirty-one minutes devoted to sensual love making via song. gaye's vocals are so earnest and captivating, somehow making that personal connection to any listener. it's like he's singing only to me! and the horns throughout the entire album are absolute aces, the perfect companion to the vocals. all of that makes the album great, but oh my gosh gaye does something special on this album with soul and funk. right from the first note of "let's get it on," the funky sound on the guitar grabs you. that's exactly why this is one of his best. an absolute joy to listen.

I mean, there's a reason that Mavin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" is featured in every spicy, sexy scene in every movie. It oozes pure sexuality and sensuality. But honestly, that can be said of this entire album. It is absolutely smooth and soulful from start to finish. Marvin Gaye clearly had some very deeply held, soulful ideas about sexual expression. And he is in expert form on this album when it comes to channeling those ideas into song.

I mean the best

Bueno.

What a voice.

Lets get it on, one of the most seductive songs ever. No other songs really sticks out, but all are really good. Such a nice and silky voice. Nice heartfelt ballad to end the album

We got it on

Jesus Christ man, keep it in your pants.

True story - I accidentally listened to the wrong MG album first ("What's Going On"), which I find a better album. Still, this is definitely a good album. Besides the title track the rest has that vibe the title track wants you to have. But I kinda feel after the first song, the rest doesn't compare as much. It's still pretty good, but the first song just overshadows it. A little premature single-fication. It's ok, Marvin. It happens to everyone... Still, I liked it, but once you get past the first song, the rest is good, but not as good as the first one. Hard to live up to, I guess. But definitely... groovy. "What's Going On" is still his masterpiece.

Powerful stuff. Was ready to run round the office and fok smash all my colleagues back doors in after listening.

So slick

Så nice

Ed Sheeran INNOCENT of copyright infringement (for now 🤷‍♂️)

5 star single 4 star album The extended version in particular in an exercise in tedium

Klassiek album voor, eeeh, dingen. Goed, maar af en toe wat saai en veel van hetzelfde.

Very sexy

First track is an absolute classic. Marvin Gaye has got an amazing voice. I really enjoyed the song “come get to this” as well.

gooooood vibes. great voice, wonderful basslines throughout, lots of bops

B+ Let's Get It On 5 Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) 3 If I Should Die Tonight 3 Keep Gettin' It On 3 Come Get To This 4 Distant Lover 3 You Sure Love To Ball 5 Just To Keep You Satisfied 4 Marvin, I owe you an apology. I always considered this album a one-hit wonder. I didn't imagine a 4. Never. Good on you.

A classic album by Marvin Gaye

Sexy. Horny. Gaye. Marvin knows how to funk.

Normally i listen to something different - not R&B But.. Wow... The voice..

It was a good album, listened to while painting. Some songs 3 stars some 4. More of a canoodly album, very sensual.

You have to move while listening to this album -- nothing crazy, no jumping around, but I doubt anyone can avoid at least a little swaying. I would be happy to listen to this again anytime.

Great Album. Can’t believe how young he was when he recorded this.

I listened to Let's Get It On and immediately fell pregnant. It is luxuriously smooth and his voice is incredible, it creates exactly the vibe it sets out to deliver and, while listening at lunchtime during a work day isn't the intended environment for enjoying it, it's an easy 4.

This is a great, tightly packed album full of soul and delightfully filthy, but in a classy way. If I Should Die Tonight probably my favourite - Let's Get It On an obvious standout but have heard it so so many times. 4/5.

Better than what’s going on imo

very vibes, I liked it a lot but I wasn’t super aware of the distinctions between songs. B-

I liked that he brought back theme reprises from what’s going on, but it is kinda funny to hear him go so sexual after the social conscience.

Marvin was a thirsty dude

Oh boy I can't wait to put this on my 'love-makin' playlist that I only play exclusively during my morning commute.

There's only one reason for this album, and it does that reason well

Oh he emotes so well...

Kæft det er frækt

This is a great album based on the title track alone.

What's not to like? Silky sweet and lush motown production. Wonderful harmonies throughout with Marvin Gaye's layered vocals, beautiful orchestration (particularly enjoyed the subtle flutes on 'If I should Die Tonight'. Do we really need two songs with gettin it on in the title? Maybe we do... it works here as a complete package - soulful, intimate, and warm. All wrapped up in a tight 32 minutes.

Marvin Gaye has always been, to me, the definition of soul music. The word "soul" as it's attributed to this genre of music is so perfectly captured by this man's voice. Each vocal line, each note hit, and each lyric is delivered with so much weight. "Let's Get It On", just like many of Marvin's albums, stands as an incredible display of this exact thing. I'd say this is his most intimate album, but like in a hotel room kind of way. A 5-star hotel room that is, one that's glossy, high-class, and shiny. The production here is glistening and sparkling where strings, bass, piano, and synth lines encompass its very moody core. It's like if an album could smell really really good. These songs are incredibly subtle, they seldom build up meaninglessly or explode into bombastic anthems. I think the closing track is the best example of this; it's a very subtle song, showing a lot of restraint. "Distant Lover" I feel very similarly about, it has one of Marvin's most killer falsetto vocal lines in the chorus, and it's beautiful. "Let's Get It On" is as iconic as soul tracks get but "If I Should Die Tonight" is my undisputed best song on here. I love the brief yet heavy string segments that bookend the song. The vocal layering here is incredible and the set of instruments is so diverse, it is the ultimate RnB song. The writing on this song is utterly gorgeous in its depiction of finding dream-like love. Marvin expresses how lucky he is to have found his one love, to the point where he'd be content if he died at that exact point. Writing on this album is generally incredible. I love the way Marvin depicts the different angles of intimacy, including the more tragic components in the final song "Just To Keep You Satisfied". Every song on this album exists within a very tightly curated space, so it's hard to talk about these songs separately. Not to say they blend too hard with one another, it's just that this is a holistic album experience more than anything. I'd say the really great songs overshadow maybe some of the less memorable ones. Marvin is an incredible writer as I mentioned, but for certain songs like "You Sure Love the Bell", I find the writing to just be okay. Aside from those few nitpicks, this album's a real out-of-body experience in the most easily enjoyable way possible.

I think every human adult recognizes the opening few notes of the title track "Let's Get It On". An album can't start much better than that. This really started a "sex revolution" of sorts in the industry too, as Motown and R&B as a whole really began to embrace slow and sensual jams. Short and sweet listen.

I am pretty sure this album got me pregnant, and I’m a man! It’s not my favorite Marvin Gaye album, other than the title track which is obviously an all timer, but there’s still so much greatness here

thought it would make me sad cause of the break up but kinda helped 7.5/10

In an era where recreational drugs and promiscuous, unprotected, sex were behavioral norms, this album stood out as a generational anthem. 'If the spirit moves ya Let me groove ya good' RIP Marvin.

The title track is certainly iconic, but this album is overall solid throughout. Soulful and sultry with a groove that won't quit. Not quite essential, not deep and meaningful, like his "What's Going On". But solid. Aside: I do own this record. 4/5

Makes me horny

love love songs

Kort album

I would come up with a joke to describe how sexy this album is, but I can’t come up with anything. So I’ll just say this was pretty good, albeit a little bit repetitive.

Pretty good stuff

Definitively sexy album, strong performance by an amazing artist, vocals and funky rhythm stand up over time.

Let's get it on-Marvin Gaye 1-Let's Get it on✅ 2-Please Don't Stay (Once you go away)✅ 3-If I should die tonight✅ 4-Keep Getting it on✅ 5-Come get to this✅ 6-Distant Lover✅ 7- You sure love to ball❌ 8-Just to keep you satisfied❌ My top 3 1-Please don't stay 2-Let's get it on 3-If I should die tonight

Pretty funky

Selvfølgelig rigtig hyggeligt - 4/5 :)))

Very swag album, super fun, good music

Good vibes for the mood I was in

IVE BEEN REALLY TRYING BABY

It's so funny how much seduction is evoked by the song Let's Get it On. Like it's taken on a life of it's own. An early meme. You hear that song and you either think someone wants to have sex, or is having sex. Not even the full song - just like the first 5 seconds too! This album is awesome. Wasn't familiar with anything else on here but I loved it. Marvin Gaye rules.

The whole album is sex. 🤤

Heerlijk bij morning coffee met mats. She said she needs some Marvin Gaye!!

Grown folks music. Just a whole album of gems. The liner notes were amazing, iirc.

Weirdly all songs sound the same.

music to make love too!

One thing is clear: Marvin Gaye fucked. “Let’s Get It On” is solid throughout, with Gaye’s vocals shining as the centerpiece. It’s short runtime across 8 tracks is a strength, as every song feels deserving of it place on the album - perhaps with the exception of “Keep Gettin’ It On.”

What a voice, lots of great songs and it was a very fun listen!

предыдущий Марвин чуть больше понравился, но всё ещё очень довольна им, да

Clássico marvin gaye, loving making music all the way

Was wondering why I never heard anything beyond the title track before. Probably because it’s all about fucking.

All sorts of smooth. Songs and album holds up many years later

4 - I knew it'd be a horny album, and I got about what I expected. I can be a prude, but this didn't rub me the wrong way. A lot of the songs are good and even the tracks I didn't like as much are still solid. It's very cohesive. All I have left on the 1001 list is Here, My Dear now, which is the one I'm more hesitant about, but I'm still hopeful. Gaye hasn't disappointed yet.

Gaye gets you laid.

Marvin was a horn dog

Good album but not my taste

One of the best R&B albums. Has the big hits from Marvin Gaye’s solo work. The non-popular songs are very good slow soul type music.

classic album from marvin gaye. smooth beats and chords, along with marvin's sultry lyrics keep this one going from start to finish.

Great album, many great songs

When this album showed up I started thinking about what is the highest score I'd give an album based on a single song. "Let's get it on" is such a part of popular culture it basically is a genre of its own. Then I realized the whole album is pretty much the same vibe. Even the song about the possibilities of him dying has that iconic feeling, and is now incredibly sad given his story. I didn't realize he had so many albums and hits, so I know there are several songs that I like better and can't quite give it a 5, but it's pretty close. Favorite track "Let's get it on" 4/5

It definitely feels like this is another album that I got today for a specific reason since it’s so horny. And he’s got a point like this, 69 love songs, and that tlc album from a week ago are great candidates for a Valentine’s Day album but this one is probably the most iconic of the bunch. Marvin’s voice is just so silky and sexy even as a straight guy. However, I still think is that enough is sexier sounding even if the lyrics are the opposite of this album.

I haven't listened to a lot of Marvin Gaye. Let's gooooooooo! His VOICE...COME ON!! 4/5 This was a lot of fun to listen to.

Sexed up Marvin Gaye. My wife put her fingers in her ears so she wouldn’t succumb to its power.

This was dope. Marvin’s voice is fucking insane. Hilarious how he basically just reprises Let’s Get It On with Keep Gettin’ It On. This is one of those albums where I don’t exactly save a ton of songs off it but the album is just great as a whole. Totally an album to play through on a turntable (except the part with the sex noises).

First couple songs are 5 stars, later songs make it 4

Sehr entspanntes Album

This album, much like the debut album from Marvin that we had on this list earlier, us a Jam. Marvin hit on all cylinders man.

Another surprising album that I didn’t expect to enjoy. Super smooth.

A nice slice of Motown soul. Maybe not as memorable as the other records on the list, but worth spending an hour listening to.

Marvin Gaye had a long, successful career as one of the greatest voices of R&B, funk, and soul. Let's Get It On is more overtly sexual than Gaye's previous work, and his smooth, rich voice works incredibly well with this type of material. The title track is one of the more pointedly sexual songs of modern music, and it isn't the only obviously sexual track on the album. For example, "You Sure Love to Ball" starts with the sound of a woman moaning. Gaye's voice is one the strongest, most-recognizable voices in modern music. Let's Get it On differs from Gaye's previous socially conscious work, but adds to his catalog of beautiful, well-produced songs.

Banger. Soul. Sexy. Let's Get It On.

got me feeling like a sexy labor lover 7/10

Bro's turning me on with them songs. -8/10

Pretty good. Kanye sampled Distant Lover on Spaceships. Good length too.

Good energy 8/10

I wanna have sex with marvin gaye after listening to this, so 8/10

Socioeconomic Good voice

Classic - not just a 70s classic, but simply classic. The opening bars of \"Let's Get It On\" are instantly recognizable even if I'm certain I've never heard the full song before. It is the epitome of Soul that all others in the category can compare themselves to.

Lets get it onnnn

So basically this album provides the template for the four rules of life: a.) to get it on b.) To keep getting it on c.) to learn how to ball in order to maintain one’s on getting and d.) because if not, you sure would not have kept one satisfied. What else does one need?

This album makes me want to get it on and keep gettin’ it on. You wanna talk? Talk about getting it on. Early morning should talk about gettin it on. Don't just talk about it. Everybody starts gettin' it on. Greatness.

Best first 10 seconds of an album ever? Here’s the thing - the album never gets as good as the opening track, but when you start with a stone-cold classic, that makes sense. And the rest isn’t bad at all, it just isn’t “Let’s Get It On.”

It’s Marvin. That voice is perfection. Very short album though.

Title track is a classic banger that I don't think I've ever heard more than 20 seconds of. Pure soul rooted around a fat ass bassline and some sex guitar. I never connected that DJ Koze sampled this in Das Wort (great song btw). Please Don't Stay is groovy as hell. Love the drum and percussion work throughout. Also, to state the obvious, his vocals (and backing support) are phenomenal. Keep Gettin' It On is basically a reprise for Let's Get It On. Kind of funny -- I haven't seen self-references like this too often. I mean it jams, but it is basically the same song as the intro. Distant Lover is another standout track. Simply beautiful R&B tune with enveloping instrumentals. Love the layering and the little flourishes throughout (chime, trumpet, etc). This is a beautiful album in all respects. Lovely production, solid instrumentals, and crisp sensual vocals. The kind of music that makes me want to light some candles and lather myself in oil. This isn't something I would just throw on at any given time and love it, but I respect it for what it is. Solid 4 / 5 for me.

Gettin' freaky in my kitchen with some bacon and eggs

I don't know if I've ever heard "Let's Get It On" outside of a commercial. Pretty great funky instrumental guitar that pairs well with his voice. Keep Gettin It On sounds like a sister song to Let's Get It on. This is just a pleasant album with a lot of soul and some undercover funk. 10/10 would bang to this album.

This album is allllll vibes

Making baby music at it's finest. What a beautiful album from beginning to end. This is early R&B sound that just oozes sexuality without being profane and in your face. This is the sound and style I miss these days. Just a great sound and if you have Spotify, let the genre play all day long. This really hit the spot. 4.5

The opening track is a masterpiece. The rest pretty much sits in the good-great range. Four stars.

A great album high 8/10

Some smackin soul, some simmerin sex music of the sooooooooounds of our sexual heaaalaeeyinggggggg

classic stuff.... 4 stars
