Reviews (page 5 of 13)

Very well produced, cohesive concept album that sadly has aged all too well and is still very relevant. That said, for all its fame and recognition, I found the songwriting a bit repetitive and not melodic enough for my taste. Faves: What's Going On, Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)

Constant string of cheesy lovin. Perfect if you are in the right mood

Espectacular

Very enjoyable and well executed, but ultimately not life changing. I should probably listen more to this genre tho

Delicious, fine. A collection of very nice songs, perfectly played. And Gaye's voice sounds perfect too. Calm from beginning to end, but with emotion.

В целом зашло

Solo el arranque es un 10

Like sex in a record. Great songs, great groove, great for that vibe. Will return to this when the feeling is right

Already know most of the songs. Some are heavy hitters but some are really forgettable. Is the backbone of contemporary R&B. Might need one more listen before rating.

The man just basically creates a whole genre and stylistic feel w his body of work - this one digs into love and all its vagaries

Ok so beforehand the only song off this album i knew was Let's get it On but ??? Whole album kinda bangs

His thirteenth album. Soul. The title track is an all time smooth and sexy classic. The whole album is wetter and harder than a vintage Peter North compilation video. Great smooth vocals with freaky and funky sex melodies. Bites bottom lip.

They really don't make production anymore like they do in the 1970s

This album surprised me, it was actually pretty good! I found myself finishing the album without even realizing it. It's a classic 70's R&B album that has some pretty great moments in it. I wouldn't really put it on a playlist, but I wouldn't skip it if it came up.

Marvins voice is always going to soothe and take you to a calm melodic place. This album does that to perfection and there's a reason he is still renowned today. Beautiful album

Raunchy and romantic

Powerful vocal control

Not what I listen to regularly .But a total classic

Computah, make this man supah Gaye and horny.

I haven’t listened to every album ever made but I’m just going to assume this is the sexiest album ever

More a mood than a series of songs. From the very start, it's vibing.

Moderno, sexy, para nada sencillo, transmite y es lo que cuenta. Martín Gaye logra que este álbum tenga chinches increibles

Indescribable, timeless. Favourite track: Distant Lover

Incredibly suave and romantic album. The harmonies and the production are on point. Come Get to This is one of my favorite songs ever, and it stands alongside some great music on this album rightfully so.

3.5 - Good

Such a good voice

what a lovely album. just rly nice to listen to

godly and iconic title track, the remainder of the album is smooth, romantic soul.

Man that title track is good. The rest is good too but doesn’t quite get there again. Just shy of a 5.

Smooth soul on top of a bed of jazzy sounding music. Very good but not doesn't have the same political consciousness of What's Going On. Low 4

While the opening track is absolutely fantastic, I honestly felt like the rest of the album was pretty boring. "Let's Get It On" is a great song once you get over how society has turned it into a parody of itself. The song grooves and you can really hear his passion, but then.... where does it go? Of course Marvin Gaye is a great songwriter with a fantasticly pure voice, but with the exception of "Distant Lover" there just was not enough dynamism in most of these songs for me to really get into them. "You Sure Love To Ball" was the best example of this idea for me. To be clear there is nothing "bad" about this album, but I just was not really struck by anything on here. 3.5 if possible but I’ll round up

How do you follow up such an iconic title track in your album? You don't really, apparently. You just riff around the same theme, even essentially reprising the song. But when the title track is so good you can hardly blame him. Lesson from this album is that Marvin fuuuuucckkksss. 4/5.

es verdad que es muy sexy, el primer tema lo ODIO

Soul classic. What’s Going On is a little stronger, in my opinion.

Great album

Canciones muy sensuales, lo volvería a escuchar

me gusto mucho, mi favorita fue distant love

Sexiest album I've ever heard. Very good, probably wasn't intended to be listened to while looking at spreadsheets though

4/5 1. Let's Get It On - 5 2. Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) - 4.5 3. If I Should Die Tonight - 5 4. Keep Gettin' It On - 4 5. Come Get to This - 4 6. Distant Lover - 5 7. You Sure Love to Ball - 4 8. Just to Keep You Satisfied - 4.5

Har Doo-wop træk og er proto-quiet storm. Det er genre som er præget af natlig blød elegance som peger mod slow jams osv. ellers er det soul/smooth soul som har rødder i Gospel og RnB men blødere og mere fløjelsesagtigt. Meget mere intimt end feks what's going on synes jeg.

Some songs have reached the level of fame and recognition that I find it weird to think they were once just a track written to go on an artist's 12th album. There was a world, not even that long ago comparatively, where the song Lets Get It On didn't exist! Bizarre to compute. The fact there's a reprise (Keep Getting It On) half way through the album could be seen as a little lazy on a 33 minute album, but the chutzpah of it made me laugh out loud, so I'm giving it a pass. It's all great. It's all very soulful. It's all very much intented to be consumed in a very specific setting (and so is a little odd if you are actually just drinking a massive cup of tea and eating your breakfast like I was while listening to it). I liked What's Going On better as an album, but did I like it a whole star better? Not really, but as it can't get a 4.5, it's gonna have to be a: 4/5

wait i know this song tossin n tossin n tossin sugaaaar aaan somethinh what? every night, and sometimes i yearn through the day ughhh why does it give fairuz no

Favorite Track: Let’s Get It On

Blues - de fondo, chill

Great stuff.

love it, idrc about its sensual themes, I just love the instrumentals; I find them beautiful and slow in just the right way. Perfect for a calm day.

Even though the style is a bit specific in its theme, it's smooth and enjoyable to listen to. It has jazz undertones, even though it's identified as soul, and the vocals match the instrumentals so well.

So smoooooth and a great voice. I’m going to go 4.4.

🥵 Seriously, though, this is sexy, smooth, and great. 8/10 Most Excellent

Classic

2 songs about getting it on lol

You can't go wrong with Marvin Gaye

Riktigt bra skiva utan en dålig låt. Enda minuset är att det möjligen skulle kunna vara något mer omväxling över de åtta låtarna. Stark fyra tycker jag ändå att den ska ha.

Let's Get It On is an all time smooth great track. The rest sound suspiciously similar to Let's Get It On - chord progression, vocals, themes. Doesn't take away - if the album was 40 minutes, I would have quickly ran out of patience.

Actually really nice

Honestly the harmony, the melody I did expect to like this album or this type of music

sex personified

Very cool. Back half wasn’t quite as good as the front. Classic though.

While What's goin on is my favourite Marvin and perhaps all time favourite soul album. This is wonderful as well. Probably 4 stars, super smooth music

Pretty good overall!

I love the album, It is such a pleasure to listen to it from start to finish 4/5

marvin got it factor 3.75 vibe

There is so much talent here. This album is such a vibe. Marvin Gaye is such a great singer and the band is so good. Liked Songs: "Let's Get It On" , "Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away)" , "If I Should Die Tonight" , "Keep Gettin' It On" , "You Sure Love To Ball"

Hard to dislike! As quintessential a collection of love songs as you'll ever find. Not all the songs are memorable, but they're all romantic and smooth. As great as his 1960s songs were, it'll always have been a great thing for Marvin Gaye to have started writing and producing his own records in the 1970s.

'Tis a classic.

What a voice , great songs. Listen to this all day long

Marvin sabia das coisas

One of those one's I'm grading on a bit of a curve, since it would likely be a 5 star if a typical artist released it.

I don't know that you get Childish Gambino or D'Angelo or Prince without this. & even when it kind of melts over you as opposed to hooking you, it's still such a smooth listen.

Let's Get It On

I dedicated this to Harold ok?

Like the guy's music a lot. Very iconic. Album was very 'making love' focus with I think has a women moaning with pleasure in one of them? lol. Very good stuff.

Smooth and easy, this is "classy" music about sex.

I don't care what anybody says, it's sad that his dad murdered him.

Good start to my day!

i could've swore i listened to and rated this already. maybe it was before i started using this generator? who knows, guess i'll rate it again Let's Get It On - 5/5 Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) - 4/5 If I Should Die Tonight - 5/5 Keep Gettin' It On - 4/5 Come Get to This - 4/5 Distant Lover - 5/5 You Sure Love to Ball - 3/5 Just to Keep You Satisfied - 4/5 Average score: 4.3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a voice! Superbly produced and arranged. Soul and R&B isn't really my go-to but this is a very good album and even I'm aware that "Let's Get It On" remains the gold standard for romantic soul. Four stars. Side one 1 "Let's Get It On" (5/5) 2 "Please Don’t Stay (Once You Go Away)" (4/5) 3 "If I Should Die Tonight" (4/5) 4 "Keep Gettin' It On" (3/5) Side two 1 "Come Get to This" (4/5) 2 "Distant Lover" (4/5) 3 "You Sure Love to Ball" (3/5) 4 "Just to Keep You Satisfied" (3/5) Total - 30 Average - 3.75 264/1001 142/264 albums reviewed were new to me

Very close between four and five stars. It’s that jam style that he goes for in his album, which if you want something going in the background is awesome but not very interesting for listening focused. 8/10

Solid album. Might be better than what’s going on. I love when an album is 30 mins and has no fluff. The sex audio at the end was a lot tho lol

"If I Should Die Tonight" was my favourite song on the album the instruments are very nice, the album cover captures the essence of getting it on, very well. The intro to the last song made me think of my corrupted evil days of love. Overall this is a great album. I would recommend

Hot and sexy

I spent the first 20 minutes cooing, who knew Marvin was so infatuated with me? Then a woman was audibly satisfied to completion and I realised he didn't want to get freaky with me. I had a good time though, even if I didn't cum.

It's so short! Several great songs. Although some parts are a bit too soft.

enjoyed it I mean whats not to like about Lets get it on. Soulful blues or bluesy soul, whatever it is I liked it.

This is sex music, and I like it. Though my fella got up, made a coffee and went for a poo for the entirety of it. 🙄 Seriously though, it's really nice music. I was sorely disappointed in the other Marvin Gaye album I had, this is more what I was expecting. So smooth.

56 albums ago I reviewed Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On?", and had this to say: "Hm, let's see what's up next... Marvin Gaye! I don't know much Marvin Gaye, let me think... "Let's Get It On", "Sexual Healing"... Ah, so this is gonna be a sultry, sexy album. ~35 excellent minutes later~ Okay, I wasn't expecting anything so deep and political... and I *certainly* wasn't expecting so much about God and Jesus. Had no idea Marvin Gaye contained so many multitudes." Apparently *this* is the album I was expecting... but I also can't even call it *the* sex album, because sexual healing isn't even on it! This was pretty good, I certainly didn't hate it... but I think the best thing it did for me was renew my appreciation for the other album. This one certainly is more one-note, and less deep and interesting... but it's musically solid. I'll happily give it a 4. ...And with that, my incredible 5 album streak of 5's has come to an end. It had to happen eventually!

Might just be the best album ever to have sex to. Marvin Gaye just has that something about him, you know? So smooth, so sensual.

Great album, very listenable, not a single bad song. Bit corny but maybe a product of the times

Sexual.

This has always struck me as a quintessential follow-up album. It doesn’t hit as hard What’s Going On but it’s not supposed to.

Bisschen horny aber kann man schon hören

Krasser Typ und krasses Leben Lieb die Musik

Stand-out tracks: Let's Get It On, If I Should Die Tonight, Distant Lover, You Sure Love To Ball, Just To Keep You Satisfied

Highlights: Let's Get It On, If I Should Die Tonight, Come Get To This, Distant Lover Easy task for today, Gaye is a classic for a good reason. Here he displays his sexy mode and he does it in a gentle way throughout the whole record. The gentleness fits perfectly with a good number of songs which talk about heartbreak and reunion - an act where the hearts aren't racing but a bit more careful and tender. Such a nice fit. His vocals are full of emotion and they are, as it always is with him, the star of the show. I find it a shame that the record is a bit of a rollercoaster doe - one moment you have a weeping track, then a sexy track and once again a weeping one... I got the impression that the emotional highs and lows are evenly represented, so maybe he could have made one side be a sexy side and the other one be a reminiscing one. But that's kind of a nitpicky thought.

Outstanding

This is a good album, the only thing is I always listen to the albums when I'm taking my kid to school, so that was a little awkward. Overall though, the album was great, with some tracks stronger than others. Maybe a bit repetitive, but I'm not sure that's an issue with this one.

2/20/26. Really good album, love Marvin Gaye. Super soulful and uplifting, and loving of course. The instrumentation is also great.

🥵🥵🥵

I can't be mad at an album this tight.

Very pleasant genre in general but wow this was great !

Smoove

A bit of a one track mind, but it succeeds

Classic

Silky smooth. Cohesive. Sexy. 4.4 outta 5

I only knew the title track before listening. It's a good song. Good album overall. I thought if I Should Die Tonight was quite lovely.

Good shit. Muy gracioso que empiece a puro meme. No me la sabía y me hizo mucha gracia. Buenos temas, buenas vibras, buenos tunes para el baby-making. He was hornier than a mf on god.

Track 1, side 1… bam.

War okayisch, R&B ist nicht so meine Musik. Gut gemacht ist es allerdings schon

Look, it's never going to be as good as "What's Going On." But, purely on vibes, this album is amazing. Prime bedroom material. The quality slips here and there, but it's pretty excellent. 8/10

It was a great album. The emotions it gave off were very strong.

Hot take maybe, but “If I Should Die Tonight” is a way sexier song than “Let’s Get It On” (which is still pretty sexy)

Did not expected to like it that much. I didn't know this album before but it took me one second of the first song to be like "What?! This is that?!" So yes it seems I knew at least one song. Overall solid album, enjoyed it probably will listen to it again. Perfect music for evening with book I guess.

Loveeee.

Let's Get It On 4.2 Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) 4 If I Should Die Tonight 4.1 Keep Getting' It On 3.7 Come Get to This 3.5 Distant Lover 3.5 You Sure Love to Ball 3.6 Just to Keep You Satisfied 3.3 Score: 3.7375

Sweet sounds coming down on the night shift #musicsky #albumsky #nowplaying

Pretty good actually

Very good

DAMN THIS FREAKLY AS HELLLL?? i like the music. not mainly my style but would definitely put it on in the car or smth. the first song caught me off guard.

Todo el álbum es sexy. Me gusta.

I love the album artwork for this, it gives a sense of passion that is obvs present in music but in a totally different way. And it really is an album about passion, the smoothest of listening experiences. Other than that, I’m not sure what I, a millennial white woman, can really add?

Suffers a bit from the fact that the title track is now like the go-to comedy song about fucking, and that just when that's gone there's another song halfway through that's called 'Keep Gettin' It On' where it's the exact same beat and the message is 'no, let's all remember that song about fucking that they'd use for the bit in an Adam Sandler film when he gets an erection'. It makes it kinda hard to evaluate it on its own merit, but for what it's worth this is some nice soul music. THAT SAID I procrastinated by reading up on the background to this record and Marvin Gaye writing about sex in general as a means to get over childhood trauma and it's very interesting, so I'm adding a star

Smooth as butter RYM: Y (#578) Saved a song: N

Just a solid soulful sexy album. I would listen to this again for sure. Really enjoyed it. I loved the way Lets get it on evolved into keep getting it on. This man sure loves to ball. 4 stars

silky smoooooth

I liked it, very vibey.

What a sexy album. I should have dimmed the lights and lit some candles to listen to this

wet and blurry music smells like sex 4

Sexy…I’m saving this one for Valentines!

Not as wonderful for me as some say but the bass is superb . Obviously a must listen

A fantastic album

On an album full of fuck songs, "You Sure Love to Ball" is a fuuuuuuuck song. Glad I got to hear that one for the first time. It's a short album and there's no real need to have the title track on here basically twice. Overall, this is a really entertaining record, but definitely not Marvin at his peak. Still really good, though!

A collection of joyous soul. Not the masterpiece that What’s Going On but went down a treat on a Monday morning.

Liked it alot. i can see it being the go-to album for, when you are alone with the ladies....smooooooth

such a classic

Easily the horniest album so far. Marvin Gaye has such a soulful voice. I really enjoyed most of the album. I already knew the title track, but the other tracks continued the sultry sound. Smooth, easy listening

Very good! ★★★★

Amazing vocals and iconic title track, but there’s only so many songs about sex that I want to hear in a row before getting sick of it

Når ikke de samme høydene som What's Going On, men det trenger den ikke å gjøre heller.

What's Going On, men mer fokus på knulling. Den når ikke helt opp til forgjengeren, men fortsatt kramgo

Dette er vel bare en litt dårligere versjon av Whats going on? Nå er den såpass bra at det ikke gjør noe

Really slow, nice, easy listening. Don't have to think too much, just enjoy the lyrics and beats. Nice vocals too, as expected. 7/10

What’s an opening to the first track. Such clean production. A great walk to work this morning. Vibes, even if it descends into background music after the first few tracks.

Listened to this with my wife on Valentine’s Day. Ohhh yeah

It’s hard not to compare this to “What’s Going On?”, which isn’t fair because that is legitimately one of the best albums ever made. But I think if that album never existed, this one would be more respected. I also think the fact that “Let’s Get it On” is about sex causes idiots to go “huh huh, he’s talking about doing it!” and not engage with it as a work of art. But Marvin Gaye was trying to come to terms with being a sexual being in light of the abuse he experienced as a child at the hands of his father, who would go to murder him. Makes it less funny to go “ha ha sex!” huh? This was an artist in his prime and this album is just a small step down from his masterpiece.

really good, kinda unexpected?? really like distant lover

Very good. I see why captain America likes Marvin Gaye so much.

Гарний альбом

Listened while driving home from work. Perhaps the horniest album ever made. Sounds great!

Really enjoyable

This album gets extra points for having the international sex anthem of all time on it. A song so nice they recorded it twice like Chubby Checker twisting again like he did last summer. The rest of the album is pleasant enough, but doesn’t capture the same magic.

4/5. Funk soul do bom. Marvin inspiradíssimo.

Marvin Gaye is one of.the.best voices ever

Prime baby making music. A record so sexy you need a shower after.

King Shit

4/5 Ohhh what an interesting album. Marvin's strained relationship with sex makes this album a very compelling one that I won't soon forget.

Really solid album, almost up there with “ what’s going on”. Amazing tracks, solid lineup an amazing listen all the way through, really feel the soul. I think he’s got to be one of my favorites of the genre, though, this is four stars, almost 5.

You’ve got to really get over those first couple notes of let’s get it on because it’s so recognizable and has been turned essentially into a “meme” that has been used so much in popular culture. After you actually get into the song u kinda remember like oh ya, I forgot this actually a great song and not just a joke. The rest of the album is just great, smooth musicianship.

Absolute classic from Marvin Gaye as far as the title track goes, and the rest of the album is short and sweet. Can't deny his vocal ability and talent even on his lesser known songs. Would come back to this one again.

Absolute classic, songs different enough to stay interesting but you can still recognize his iconic voice and style. Love it!

Fast schon lustig, wie horny das mitunter klingt.

very funky and so listenable - i tend to prefer more upbeat songs, so this wasn't my absolute favorite, but i can definitely appreciate the musicality. technically an amazing album

Classic 70s r&b that solidified Gaye as a legend.

not a pop fan

Really good for its time

4.3 top tier sheet ruffling material.

I enjoyed listening to this. It's all very smoochy and I didn't think it would really lend itself very well to a cold, grey, damp, Monday morning in January but it's a very calming, rich-sounding record and it quietly swept me away for half an hour while I pretended to understand a spreadsheet. So, thanks Marvin. And what a voice. Going to have to dig out more by him now.

Classic for a reason

iconic

I’ve only ever listened to What’s Going On from Marvin Gaye before and I really liked that album but this album felt like on another level to me, very sexy and very good.

A landmark record in R&B, this highly influential collection of tunes does not cover a wide range of sounds but instead goes deep on the burgeoning funk influence on soul music. Tender, sexual and yearning - the influence can be heard reverberating throughout the genre and pop music in general. After Gaye asked the question "What's Going On?', taking in the state of the world around him, he moved to themes here that are more internal, love and desire. Pretty Crazy to do essentially a reprise of the first song on the album 3 songs later, but I am sure they knew they had something timeless on their hands.

Great album really good instrumentation and filled with funk but holy horny. The reviews earlier described this as sexy and sensual and if sex was an album and I believe it now. I don't inherently have anything wrong and it definitely doesn't take away from the incredible song writing but I do think it gets slightly carried like in the moaning in "you sure love to ball" but it was written from Gaye's stunted sexuality as a result of his father's abuse so I can't judge it too harshly but overall definitely definitely recommend. Standout tracks for me were obviously "let's get it on", "come get to this" and "you sure love to ball"

A sad and horny Marvin Gaye. He just like me forreal

8/10 Favourite: Distant Lover Least Favourite: You Sure Know How to Ball

3 until I got to Let's get it on

7 Lovely marvin

Admittedly, the first time I heard the song 'Let's Get It On' was in Austin Powers. So I've always found the concept of Marvin Gaye to be kinda cheesy. The butt of a joke. But I'm actually really grateful that I spent time with this album and gave it a chance. It's a beautiful and soulful album and I can hear where a lot of modern R&B artists take inspiration from his work. I can see myself listening to it on a slow Sunday morning, maybe cooking breakfast. It's not my usual genre, but that's what I'm here for! 4/5

Like What’s Going On, it maintains both a lyrical and music theme throughout.

Amazing. His second best album.

A classic

I enjoyed this one a lot more than Here, My Dear. The same smooth, funky, soul music, but this time it's more sexy and less resentful divorcee. Also a much more manageable run time to this one.

pretty good!! easy to listen to and enjoyable overall!/

Marvin’s in a mood, too bad it’s Monday morning! This record, classic and smooth as hell, is also, if we’re honest, a little single-minded. I love the voice, the funk, the soul, and need more substance for this to be a personal 5.

Exactly what I expected from Marvin Gaye. Fantastic album. A lot of the songs sounded the same. The moans felt a little unnecessary but other than that.

Adding to my collection

Kanye West sample

Really solid album.

Incredibly produced album. Guy gets it on.

You typ

So far the best Marvin Gaye album

It's a good one, solid throughout. Great songs.

que se puede decir cuando empieza con semejante ted talk de yearning. de ahi para arriba.

Really enjoyed this, compact and good variety in the songs.

The pipes on this man! The groove of the backing band! The arrangements! This album more or less defined the slow, sexy soul ballads that are a centerpiece of R&B to this day. The songs do eventually sound a little bit alike, but given that this was the album that you'd start playing just before you and your partner got busy, it didn't need a lot of variety. All of the vocals (except the backups on "Just to Keep You Satisfied" and presumably the...excited young lady at the start of "You Sure Love to Ball") are Gaye, multitracked to provide an amazing one-man chorus. A titan of its era, even if the title track is the only one you know.

I like the sexuality of it all

Aware of the title track. Heard it for years. Hard to take it seriously because of the way it’s used in TV and movies. And I had no idea there was a reprise track called “keep getting it on”. I need to look this album up. I think “come get to this” is my favorite song on this album. This is a really good album once you get past the cheese that Hollywood layered on.

Ubiquitous horny, romantic and sad staples all together on one album, therapeutic for Gaye and great stuff, but What’s Going On mogs Let’s Get It On entirely. That he was bold enough to name one song Let’s Get It On and another Keep Gettin’ It On, and both are fantastic, is amazing work and You Know How to Ball is absolutely smutty.

king of rnb, felt inappropriate to listen to at 8am LOL

Album was fire. Not particularly something I would listen to daily but nonetheless a good album

Bwam bwam bwam bwam… IVE BEEN REALLY TRYYYING BABY

It's a good listen, not much to say about it

Let’s get it on indeed! 8/10 Favorite tracks- “Let’s Get It On” “Come Get to This” “Distant Lover”

Solid.

First note of the first song... oh yeah... I know I'm in familiar, groovy, pleasant territory. Who doesn't know "Let's Get It On" ??? A solid album that moves you. Too good to have on in the background as the instruments begin to pull you into the movement of their song. Eight songs that blend together and avoid the trap of becoming too repetitive. Top Songs: 1. Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) 2. If I Should Die Tonight 3. Distant Lover

It's been a minute since I listened to What's Going On, but this one feels about the same quality. I might slightly prefer Let's Get It On simply because Save the Children was a bit on the nose for my tastes. But don't got much else to say compared to What's Going On. Let's Get It On is also a timeless, lush record that's a delight to listen to. Only downside is there are no inductees for the "Marvin Gaye's Clueless Ass" playlist from this album. Sad, 2/10, would not listen again.

Rating: 8/10 It’s short and very sweet, just a consistent quality experience all the way through. Let’s Get It On is an all timer and I think the best song here but there’s a bunch of solid cuts through the next seven tracks. How many people made albums fully about fuckin before Marvin Gaye?

Love the vibe, Marvin is freaky.

Je ne sais pas comment exprimer ce que j'ai ressenti mais c'était exceptionnel.

Soulful tunes from the R&B master

supa groovy

How can you even contend with the GOAT?

Loved this, smooth and sexy.

Good for a chill night

Soulful, timeless, sexy, sweet

The title track is great, and the subsequent tracks are very good, but not quite at the same level. I didn't like this quite as much as "What's Going On."

Apart from this being one the most sensual albums ever, this is genuinely very good music.

A Motown classic but make the sexiness obvious and naked.

Good one, really nice listening to.

yeah its good

AMAZING album!!! “Let’s get it on” is just an absolute classic and I loved the song as the opener. Everything felt so smooth and thoughtful and the transitions made it even better. Favorite song: “Come get to this”

Bongos, saxophone, AND a vibraphone. Are you not seduced?

very good, a keeper. 12/22/2025

8/10 This is a hard album to rate for me. I love Marvin Gaye, and there is some really special work on here, with his vocal in particular just shining the whole way through, but this is more of an overall vibe record, rather than being a collection of clearly defined and constructed songs. Some of these tracks are, despite the obvious quality of the performances and production, just a little bit too drifting and jam like to really hold my focus. I guess maybe it's an album designed to be on while you’re busy getting busy, and it certainly fulfils that brief. It’s smooth and sexy, earthy and beautiful. But it’s also music in soft focus, which doesn’t quite connect with me on the same level as his previous record, which is one of my favourites of all time. Every musician plays their part here and the pulse of the album shifts and moves through its duration with a practiced ease. In some respects, this is an excellent album because of that very thing. It’s a singular work. Yes, it’s divided into songs, but you hear little call backs and motifs thrown in here and there from other parts of the record, to the extent that Keep Gettin’ It On refers back to the title track and wanders off in a slightly different direction, and that ‘complete work’ aspect is incredibly appealing as an album prioritising listener. But the slight lack of compositional centre does detract just a little for me. All of that goes to say that, while I do really like this album, to me it almost feels like a record to put on and allow it to just wash over you rather than focusing too closely on it, and that doesn’t elevate it from an album that I really like to one that I love. Let's Get It On - This is one of the smoothest songs ever recorded, isn’t it? So much groove and feel to this one and Marvin giving it so much movement across his vocal range, while always sounding like it’s effortless for him. The instrumentation takes a back seat to the vocal, but it's got so much quality, it’s so tight, and it’s chock full of vibe. Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) - It’s more understated, but it’s still smooth and high quality. It’s got a little less range than the title track, but that vibe is so good. The blend of drums and percussion give this a satisfyingly pulsing life. If I Should Die Tonight - Keeping, and perhaps even furthering the laid back vibe of the last track, Marvin emotes so well over the top of a really nice weave of tonality from the rest of the instrumentation. The vibe is just excellent, although it's perhaps a tiny bit limited in range. Keep Gettin' It On - And we get a return of sorts to the opener. There’s some really lovely piano work in there, and the groove is impossible not to move to. It’s a bit of a jam rather than a more traditional song structure, but it’s a quality jam. Come Get To This - This one swings. It’s more vibe, but things are becoming a little bit too drifty for me at this point. It’s got a bit more get up and go than some of the slower jams, so it’s got that toe-tapping quality to it, but it’s perhaps a little unfocused. Distant Lover - And talking of the slower jams, here comes one now. This one is perhaps a little more focused around the distant lover section, but it does still drift along and slide its way through some changes in composition so that they’re almost not noticeable. The playing, production and vocals are worth the price of admission. It’s so smooth and pleasant, but compositionally, I find it a little to loose. You Sure Love To Ball - We get a bit more focus here as the structure seems a bit more well organised by comparison to other tracks on the album. There’s a clearer movement between sections without losing any of the vibe. He does such a good job with the overlapping vocal lines and the vibe continues to be so, so good. Just To Keep You Satisfied - Another very pretty song that drifts along, but has such a loose focus that it struggles to really grab my attention. This one, perhaps more than others, feels like it doesn’t have a central thread that it clings on to, it just floats along. That’s not to say that it’s bad, because it’s a really pleasant listening experience, but it’s also not top tier because of the lack of focus.

This is the first time I've heard the titular unironically outside of memes and honestly that might just go to show the reach the song has and how well it presents its message. This is an outrageously short and tight album, and minus the sudden jump-scare of moaning in the middle this album is incredibly easy to digest and otherwise enjoy. The only issue is I have very little to say. Compared to the other albums that seem otherwise standard this album is a lot tighter and otherwise more enjoyable although that being said those artists aren't Marvin Gaye which certainly sets him aside from most musicians. This album is pretty standard in sound and sexy is concept raised ahead of other albums in the genre of similar quality by Marvin's excellent voice. Best songs: Let's Get It On Worst songs: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 21/30 (below Morrison Hotel above Daydream Nation)

An album full of love, passion, and romance! I enjoyed it and found that it was easy to listen to. Nothing hit me as a “wow” or instant favorite but I had a good time. Probably not one I would re-listen to often though I did save “If I Should Die Tonight”.

Infused with sexual energy, I love how side one ends with a reprise of the title track. Let's Get It On/Keep Getting It On, Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away), You Sure Love to Ball, Just to Keep You Satisfied - best tracks in no particular order

Fabulous

What's Going On was rated as one of the best albums of all time along with Astral Weeks in the early 90s music rags, and that was my introduction to Marvin Gaye and his style of musical suites (with sounds and themes somewhat permiating throughout). This he took much further on Let's Get it on which I sought out thereafter, but the theme here is even more persistent and it can be hard to differentiate the groove and melody of one songs from another. I was too young to be as adept and successful a loverman as Marvin or to have the opportunity, but let's face it a seductive soundtrack is exactly what this suits most, and it is probably the ideal example for this. If you can get over the single theme suite nature, it's is almost perfect. So long as your horny baby.

Beautiful and classic

Really enjoyed this album I think it’s a great follow up to what’s going on. Vibey, sultry, a classic

sexiest album ever - an insane collection of amazing tracks. Definitely more of a genre I like. Would def listen to again

jazz isn’t my favorite but this was great favs: you sure love to ball, keep gettin it on

I mean, c’mon!

most powerful opening to an album EVER?! also comedic genius to take an emotional break and then go straight back into gettin it on, obsessed with that narrative actually

Gotta be one of the coolest to ever do it, and also one of the best. I always forget how amazing Marvin Gaye’s music is, his voice has a timbre that is unmatched, it’s so full of feeling. All the tunes are cool, moody, emotional and sexy almost regularly at the same time. 4.5/5.0 Best Song: Keep Gettin’ It On

You'd be hard pressed to find a sexier album. Marvin Gaye is such an unbelievable songwriter, to the point where he is sort of underrated. He should be spoken about more, saying that i don't think this is his best. Nonetheless it still has some bangers. Obviously lets get it on is the best song

Not to be a perv but I’m genuinely curious how many babies were made to this album. Imagine having an impact on the population like that… wild

Hyvää shittiä. 3,75/5.

I love how jazzy it is, not what I normally listen to but I really like it.

Love this album. Great voice, vibes and mood.

Smooth as a babys bottom

Marvin Gaye is such an iconic artist, certainly top 10 all time for me. His silky smooth vocals combined with his talent for songwriting and influence on the (black) music world makes his early passing such a shame. This album was the start of his more funky works later on and what's a greater way to deal with your stumped sexuality by your father's upbringing than making an album like this. What a legend. I've listened to this album multiple times before and while it obviously isn't as good as 'What's Going On', any song on this album is great for any occasion whether you're relaxed, stressed or feeling frisky of course.

Album review 020 Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye (1973) Rating 4/5 Marvin’s here and he’s all about the get-down, wooo-baaaaby. He’s gonna love you… and he’s gonna make sweeet, sweeet love wit’ you, yeahhh. It’s time to turn the lights down low, and, and, and, and… ooh-wooo-oooooh…

Æ hørte ikke så veldig nøye etter, men det va gøy nok, det.

Despite loving some other Gaye albums, I’d only ever heard the title track on this one before now. Solid overall, not as good as What’s Going On? I did really like You Sure Love to Ball though

What an album. Starting off with the classic “Let’s get it on” and only getting more sensuous as it goes. Smooth R and B for all occasions. Rated 426 on Rolling Stones top 500 albums. Agreed. Going to add a decimal to the star system. 3.8 stars.

3% chance of pregnancy upon finishing this album.

Got me some Marvin! I already had this album on CD, and it's just one love groove all the way through - the title track being the masterpiece and one of the sexiest songs ever recorded. The whole album really is a continuation of that, it's essentially background music to have sex to. Maybe that's why it's only 30 minutes long. It's sweet singing, pianos and saxophone and occasional female panting. Marvin Gaye was REALLY fucking into having sex at this point in his life. Only one great song here and whilst it's probably usually ranked as his #2 album, there may be other better ones with more high points than this. Look, it's really nice throughout, a little short of the full marks, but is definitely up there as a great example of the genre. I just can't rate it the same as the very different 'What's Going On'.

Better than Coldplay

The song is iconic but this album is great. It all has feeling and emotion and sets the mood. I love "Keep Getting It On" as an accompaniment to its famous companion song along with "If I Should Die Tonight".

Short and astounding, an incredible showcase of soul and sexy music. His voice makes it feel personal, loving and filled with intention. No notes, all excellent.

A primeira música já me pegou totalmente desprevenido. Nunca soube o nome, e descobrir foi uma boa surpresa. "Come Get To This" usa um sample ridículo de bateria eletrônica barata que estragou a música. Fora isso, o álbum é todo consistente. Esse cara definitivamente tem um vozerão. Não é um estilo de música que gosto muito, mas a qualidade deve ser reconhecida. Melhor do álbum: "Let's Get It On". Pior do álbum: "Come Get To This".

Sonoridade extremamente agradável e arranjos muito bons. Adorei como keep gettin it on reseta a vibe do album conversando com a música 1. Marvin Gaye foi muito foda!

than fifty years after it's release Marin Gaye is still making sure people just Get It On. A rare album about sex, that actually achieves steaminess.

7/10… motown / soul / *1973

A soul masterpiece with touch of funk and some jazz elements. This is a timeless classic!

Marvin Gaye is a legend of several kinds of music but I'll say, primarily, R&B and soul. I'm an utter novice at both, so let's just say I'm working on better understanding and feeling the grooves he worked with. The title track is a cross-genre classic though. The rest of the record is smooth, infectious and joyful. I think what fails to land for me with R&B is that smoothness often becomes slowness, which bores be. Sexiness becomes a sleepiness (or sometimes a vague threatening-ness). This is none of that: it is interesting, vital -- Gaye pleads with the listener. Anyway, 4/5 and it's not even my jam.

Top notch Marvin Gaye.

I wish it was longer. The arrangements are incredible on every single song and the musicianship is great, but the star is definitely Marvin Gaye’s voice. It’s so passionate, but it can be so gentle when he needs it to be. It’s a shame this album is only 30 minutes. 4/5

Whats going on — one of my favorites

Sets a standard for Rhythm and Blues that few other artists can even approach. Influential in that it opened the door to straight talk about sex in pop music. That might have had some unfortunate outcomes (pop lyrics that are basically porn), but the influence is undeniable. I was about to give this a 5, but then changed my mind because some of lesser known tracks sound the same as the better known tracks. It’s a good sound, but there’s not a lot of diversity on this album. A 4.

Hell fuckin yes

Der Sound, den man sich bei Marvin Gaye vorstellt. Ruhig, sexuell geprägt. 4/5

The Let’s Get It On theme permeates the entire album which is, definitely, part of its allure. Gotta love Marvin’s beautiful voice, his soul, songwriting and great mastery of the studio. I especially enjoyed listening to the great bass work of James Jamerson on this recording.

Sure yeah, it's the sex album; I mean, what can you say, it's even got Let's Get It On *twice*. But what fewer people know, is that it's actually also the "lying in bed under a warm blanket with your partner, dozing off while dreaming of all the things you've yet to together" album.

I'm pregnant now Best Song: Let's Get it On Rating: 8/10 Stars: 4

So full of emotion. Gets you in the mood.

Lost in the melodies. Great stuff..

Feeling a little dirty after that.

im pregnant

This is just the most vibes album ever made isn’t it

this album has the exact sound i would expect from a marvin gaye record of the 1970s, the title track is iconic and the rest of the album is also consistently enjoyable

Even this supposed festival-of-horniness album is a window on the troubled life of Marvin. That world famous invitation to get carnal sounds, on closer inspection, like a beautifully framed self-justification that love and sex are wonderful despite what he’d been brought up to believe. Such a shame that so much of the greatest art is born of pain. Anyway I'll stick to the wonderful art itself. The focus is indeed love and sex and how they work well together, but also apart. And the album sounds just like that. I can hardly think of a mis-step in the arrangements or production, nor of course the musicianship (James Jamerson is obviously worth a mention but that is a disservice to every other player here) The music is rarely as upbeat as the title track, but it’s a massage for the brain and soul throughout. Then on top of all that add one of the most beautiful voices the world has known. Sounds like 5 stars…and maybe it should be, but I have a few minor gripes: Firstly, it’s only 8 tracks and just over half an hour and that even includes a 3+min reprise of the title track. Secondly, and I know it’s unfair to make this comparison, but it doesn’t quite reach the high bar he had set with its predecessor What’s Going On. Finally, I'm REALLY tight with maximum scores, so scandalously this is reduced to a 4⭐️

When I think about Smooth Soul, I think of Marvin.

This album is pretty good. It's a very easy listening, but yet really interesting too. I've liked it a lot, even though the last songs started to feel a little less interesting for me.

This is a man who loves getting it on and its hard to argue with his philosophy

A really great soul record from front to back. It's effortlessly cool and sexy, and Marvin Gaye's vocals just sound amazing.

Kinda glad it starts with the big obvious hit, then you get to enjoy all he has to have without the weight of something else lurking. Consistent throughout are these groovy and intimate movements in his music and it's all so interesting. Let's Get it On is an obvious hit, but his other songs hold their own and give this album life. If you need it for mood setting this would definitely deliver if that's what you're going for

I really like this album. Some songs are a bit too much smooooth soul for me but overall it's great.

Amazing

MARVIN 4.1/5

The first few seconds will have you reconsidering listening to this at work

The opening sounds of this album are so tied to the act which the song and album title describes that when I played it not through my bluetooth headphones I was embarrassed and had to look around to see if anyone heard.

Soul in its purest form

I will be fully honest. I’ve never quite understood the amount of love this record receives. I love Gaye’s prior release: the seminal concept album “What’s Going On”. That record is quite literally one of the greatest records of all time and also as an added bonus directly inspired Stevie Won’s artistic expansion during the 70s so that album gets flowers for that. Now to be clear this is not a bad record, it’s very good in that it’s generally good and there’s next to nothing “wrong” with this album but honestly I just don’t fully get it. The opening title track is the embodiment of “romantic soul song” and is an excellent track. “Please Don’t Stay” is also quite good. However the following two tracks on side two are not favorites of mine as they both fall into that slow sound and formula that this album employs for virtually its whole run. The second side opens with my favorite track on the record “Come Get To This” a wonderful song that continues the themes of sexual healing found throughout this record. However I won’t lie the remaining three tracks aren’t favorites of mine. Again, I will make clear this is a good album and a pretty damn good one too but the album feels a little tiring falling into the same formula of slow soul songs that feel repetitive lyrically, outside of a few standouts this album wasn’t my favorite Gaye album

It’s Marvin what’s not to like.

Formative. Sexy. Brilliant.

I wonder how many people are here because of this album. Iconic opening. Feels like a 3 overall, but first track is so iconic, it has to bump it up a little.
