Reviews (page 8 of 8)
Not bad, but a bit too much hippy for me.
Sounded like their influences (Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell). You will truely believe why they are called the british Jefferson Airplane. Other than that, the album isn't very interesting.
okay.
Totally fine. 2 1/2 stars if I could give it a half star.
Die Stimme der Sängerin nervt sehr. Das ganze langatmig und weinerlich. Alt, nicht gut!
I prefer hear "La Biblia" of Vox Dei from Argentine. Is the same style but with quality and creativity.
Hippies
Nope
Lordy, why does folk rock need to sound so earnest? Sandy Denny's stiff, oh-so-serious voice is a millstone that sinks this record, but she alone is not to blame - the sloppy, everyone-playing-everything-all-the-time backing by the other Conventioneers renders the ragged music as a monochromatic blur.
God, this was tough to get through. Not for me.
It’s like a pretty flower that crumbles when you pick it up. It’s the musical equivalent of a donut hole
Couldn't wait for this to end. Not because it's offensively unlistenable, but I was bored senseless. I won't be revisiting this
Not for me lol
This album cover is the type of shit you would see in a house that you rented for the weekend and when you look at a photo and say "Wow are these the old owners?" and the hosts say something like "No the owners are in the background. Who are these people in the foreground?" Then after a wild and crazy weekend of unexplainable happenings, the lady in this picture shows up and rips the skin off of her face and speaks in tongues while the man hovers ominously in the kitchen screaming something that kind of sounds racist, but you're not really sure since it was a different time when he grew up and it was ambiguous enough that it could have been about actual animals and not the other meaning that is implied. But before we can cross THAT bridge, the dog is barking at the hundreds of rats that are pouring out of the oven. And on top of ALL OF THAT, the mailman is knocking at the door, somehow completely oblivious to the hellscape that is occurring 5 feet in front of him
Me gusta el sonido folk medio rock sfot, y con elementos no conevncionales. Likes: Si tu dois partir - Percy's song
What is this
Take the cover photo as a serious warning of what sort of music can be found in this collection I would not let this in the house 0/5
Really really boring, kinda made me mad.
Why is this on here?
Another smash folk album from Fairport Convention. SMH. I thought we were done with them after listening to Liege and Lief but apparently the album released just months before that garbage was “better”. I’m pretty sure they were playing the washboard in Si Tu Dois Partir along side the squeezebox but I’m not gonna waste the time to find out. Same band, same year, same result.
best lost to time. 1
This is just generic English folk. It bored me.
Can’t stand this twee sound.
boring.
Bob Dylan but worse
I don't think I can handle another British folk album. I might like one song, but this album just solidified that I'm not into British folk music.
Feels like god is pranking me whenever we get some bullshit like this. There’s nothing on this album justifying it on this list nor it being on any list of any kind.
I cannot stand the singer's voice and I'm getting so sick and tired of all these sub-mediocre, boring, basic British bands on this list. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to expand the mind numbing tune of A Sailor's Life to 11 minutes, but they ought to lose their license to play music or have any input on music. These 47 minutes felt like hours.
Not for me. 1/5
Not a fan.
No thanks
I hate this band. Celtic folk meets Creedence Clearwater Revival. Awful.
First three songs I was absolutely hating life with this one. It picked up a bit with A Sailors Life but even after that there wasn’t anything I was overly fussed on. For the most part I couldn’t stand the singers voice. Also a side note, potentially the worst album cover I’ve ever seen
This album has cemented the fact that traditional English folk rock is not for me.
NOt a fan of whispy singers...
Waste of my precious time listening to this album. I tried to get in the spirit but it was a fruitless effort. PASS.
I hadn't heard this album before, but it's fair to say that folk rock doesn't really meet my taste in music. I played this album through three times, and I don't really get it. The vocals are mixed rather too much to the fore, and I disliked their quivery tone. I didn't find the music behind the vocals particularly interesting.
One of the most boring albums yet
awwwww folk rock. i would like to listen to like folk punk more than ever, rather than listening to these. that french bob dylan cover with the shit like violin and accordion makes my life more terrible. 1/5
Folk music isn't really my vibe most of the time and really old folk music even less. I can understand why people like this but the slow songs and gentle singing puts me to sleep. And just when I'm relaxed the singer hits a long high note from nowhere that is two times as loud and I wake up again. I bet this inspired a lot of todays folk music singers but even the evolved version of this isn't for me.
point8.
Although staying true to the English folk roots, I just found it boring and repetitive and same tone. Only song that really popped to me was cajun woman which was upbeat and broke the monotony of the album. Not good for me
Uh... What is this? I am loath to hate on anyone's art, but this was positively grating. Salt in the wound: I endured the bonus tracks edition.
do not like this womans white rabbit voice
I knew right away that I did not need this in my life.
Got through 2.5 tracks. This one's a skip for me.
Hippie garbage bullshit
Meh. Again. Not my thing even as background music.
1. geneziz - 1 2. partir - 1 3. autopzy - 0 4. zailor - 1.5 5. cajun - 1 6. time - 1.5 7. percy - 1 8. million dollar - 0
Barf
It’s just another Bob Dylan album.
Shades of Joan Baez
Not for me
Folk rock. No longer a thing.
This might be the most boring thing that I have ever voluntarily listened to. 1/5
Folk off Aside from Simon & Garfunkel (twice!!), this is the worst album this list has thrown up.
This was annoying. Most albums on this list that I don’t enjoy, I can at least see why they are there and appreciate the talent. Not this one.. there’s much better folk music from this period
nails on a chalkboard
not my music
this whiny fucking woman is doing my head in
Felt too much like church music, not a fan. 1/5
It was bad. Not sure how they describe this as rock. It was closer to folk music and the singing wasnt great. I struggled through it. It was short. I will round down.
Cranberries did it better. Not for me
I don't like Fairport Convention
What what was that? Bluegrass? Folk? A ca. 1300’s bard?
That was boring. Did not care for it.
Not a genre I really dabble with but also it does absolutely nothing to make me feel like I should in the future. Album cover is great though
Interesting album cover. Uninteresting music
Meh
Cover art. The cover is nearly disturbing. I presume the band are sitting in the garden visible through the trellis in the wall. This photo took planning but what was the purpose? Did the album name follow the photo.
Not for me
This folk stuff is all folked up. Was difficult making it through the entire album. A 5 for me, making it through. A 1 for whatever this was
This is just not for me lmao
just a shit version of Mulligan and O'hare.
Shite
Get rekt
Boring album. 1.5/5
This is really great if you have insomnia. What a snoozefest. Horrible late 60s typical folk singing. 2/10.
not good
No thank you.
This is grating and boring. Not my cuppa I guess
