Some nice moments, but this album was just lost on me. I didn’t get it, maybe need to understand it in context. Kinda boring. Songwriting didn’t feel that interesting to me.

Solid folk rock with some great guitar playing. Doesn't really do anything mindblowing to me though honestly. A Sailor's Life is cool just because of how long it is.

I was generous on giving this group a 3 on their last album.

Solid folk, listenable and melodic.

Just sort of sweet light folk, some times it gets a bit more uptempo for variation which helps…

I'm being a little harsh in the rating because this music quickly goes from "fine & unoffensive" to irritating, the longer i listen to it. Genesis Hall was actually a good start, but it just drags on with the minstrel folk music. A Sailor's Life at 11 minutes did me in.

Having has Liege and Leif earlier, I can only say that even a less folky Fairport doing Dylan songs is still boring. The voice is lovely, deep, resonant but I really was just twiddling my thumbs and thinking about what I'd listen to next when this was on. Like I say, nice voice, I think Sailors Song went a bit Velvet Underground for a minute. That's the positive.

Not my speed

Folk rock, never folky enough to scratch that itch for me, nor rocky enough for the other. Have not listened to the whole album, but they could potentially have a good hybrid in there of the two, I just have not yet heard it.

As I sit here shoving cake into my fat face and thinking about lost love, I can't help but think that listening to this record was just an incredible waste of time. I could be out there, on the prowl for some perfumed pussy, sharpening my talons, ready to devour an unsuspecting feline. Instead, it's cake, crying and watching repeats of the entire first series of Big Brother. The one with Nasty Nick and cheeky scouser Craig. A tear rolls down my crumb-laden face as I shit my shorts, sigh and remember the good old days. You have been evicted.

Clearly, I do not have the musical taste to appreciate this album. Doing some research I found that most of the songs were written by Bob Dylan. IMHO, only "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" likes me.

Million Dollar Bash é divertidinha.

Cumbaya, falsetto vocals and acoustic guitars. This is British folk music from the 60's and sounds about the way you'd expect.

I grew up around folk music and folk folk, so have a natural aversion to anything that leans too much in that direction. but I actually quite enjoyed parts of this, which surprised me. The middle section of A Sailor’s Life / Cajun Woman put me in mind of the early demo versions of some of the more extended VU & Nico songs. Maybe it was the violin, and the rockier edge to it. The rest of it kind of washed over me. Not sure I understand either the title or the family photo on the cover (even after Googling), which doesn’t help. Not too bad in places but unlikely to play it again.

La pochette ne m’inspirait pas du temps. Finalement j’ai été surpris de mon écoute. Pas vraiment mon style, mais les voix, particulièrement celle de Sandy Denny que je ne connaissais pas, et certains passages musicaux étaient intéressant. Par contre, je n’ai pas vraiment aimé le style Cajun de Si tu dois partir. Mais bravo pour l’audace de mettre une chanson en français pour ces Anglais. Pièce préférée: Genesis Hall

I had never heard of this group before, so I went into this blindly. I get why it's praised, but it's just not doing anything for me in the moment. I'm picky when it comes to folk music anyway.

If I were in a 1970s hippie commune, I'd expect to be sitting in a field with butterflies fluttering around, and us hippies perched on logs crafted into haphazard chairs listening to someone with a guitar singing folks songs while the rest of us swayed back and forth and attempted to harmonize. And if I did that, I'd have this album

Not my thing.

Did not like the singer's affectations or the meandering compositions. I guess baby boomer folk is not my thing. I appreciated the clean, clear production, even if every song would benefit from stripping back the group vocals. An excellent rhythm section elevate the material where they can.

Does there really need to be multiple Fairport Convention albums on this list? Anyways, significantly inferior to their follow-up. Kind of bland overall. A bunch of Dylan covers and some glimpses of what would come next. Favourite Track: “Percy’s Song”

Was surprised to see that it's from 1969. Sounds like the kind of folk music you'd hear from America from much more recent years. Not hugely my kind of thing, could appreciate it though. Reminded me a bit of Lera Lynn but didn't enjoy as much. Did like the bits that sounded like traditional Irish folk music though

Sounded like their influences (Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell). You will truely believe why they are called the british Jefferson Airplane. Other than that, the album isn't very interesting.

English folk music is a particularly painful anti-music and honestly a waste of good musicianship. This is not art conceived by an artist. Rather it is product produced for a particular consumer. Adapting American folk music for British audiences at the end of the 60s was honestly a regression as it neither advanced folk music nor was it grounded in authenticity. How could it be authentic? It’s sung by Brits who turned it into more of the same with lovely vocals. Look, all credit to Sandy Denny who is magnificent but this album Is a fucking snoozer from front to back. This is an anti-risk record. There is nothing subversive or interesting and I listened to the album twice. Unhalfbricking my ass. This is full on bricking. If this is your thing I feel for you as there has never been a less exciting or interesting way to spend time. I reckon to say that I have had certain bowel movements that are far more intense than anything offered here. Save your time, take a shit. 1/5

Folksy sound like Joni Mitchell. It's fine. I would not go out of my way for it. Not memorable.

Lordy, why does folk rock need to sound so earnest? Sandy Denny's stiff, oh-so-serious voice is a millstone that sinks this record, but she alone is not to blame - the sloppy, everyone-playing-everything-all-the-time backing by the other Conventioneers renders the ragged music as a monochromatic blur.

This album cover is the type of shit you would see in a house that you rented for the weekend and when you look at a photo and say "Wow are these the old owners?" and the hosts say something like "No the owners are in the background. Who are these people in the foreground?" Then after a wild and crazy weekend of unexplainable happenings, the lady in this picture shows up and rips the skin off of her face and speaks in tongues while the man hovers ominously in the kitchen screaming something that kind of sounds racist, but you're not really sure since it was a different time when he grew up and it was ambiguous enough that it could have been about actual animals and not the other meaning that is implied. But before we can cross THAT bridge, the dog is barking at the hundreds of rats that are pouring out of the oven. And on top of ALL OF THAT, the mailman is knocking at the door, somehow completely oblivious to the hellscape that is occurring 5 feet in front of him

Another smash folk album from Fairport Convention. SMH. I thought we were done with them after listening to Liege and Lief but apparently the album released just months before that garbage was “better”. I’m pretty sure they were playing the washboard in Si Tu Dois Partir along side the squeezebox but I’m not gonna waste the time to find out. Same band, same year, same result.

I don't think I can handle another British folk album. I might like one song, but this album just solidified that I'm not into British folk music.

Feels like god is pranking me whenever we get some bullshit like this. There’s nothing on this album justifying it on this list nor it being on any list of any kind.

I cannot stand the singer's voice and I'm getting so sick and tired of all these sub-mediocre, boring, basic British bands on this list. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to expand the mind numbing tune of A Sailor's Life to 11 minutes, but they ought to lose their license to play music or have any input on music. These 47 minutes felt like hours.

First three songs I was absolutely hating life with this one. It picked up a bit with A Sailors Life but even after that there wasn’t anything I was overly fussed on. For the most part I couldn’t stand the singers voice. Also a side note, potentially the worst album cover I’ve ever seen

I hadn't heard this album before, but it's fair to say that folk rock doesn't really meet my taste in music. I played this album through three times, and I don't really get it. The vocals are mixed rather too much to the fore, and I disliked their quivery tone. I didn't find the music behind the vocals particularly interesting.

Folk music isn't really my vibe most of the time and really old folk music even less. I can understand why people like this but the slow songs and gentle singing puts me to sleep. And just when I'm relaxed the singer hits a long high note from nowhere that is two times as loud and I wake up again. I bet this inspired a lot of todays folk music singers but even the evolved version of this isn't for me.

This was annoying. Most albums on this list that I don’t enjoy, I can at least see why they are there and appreciate the talent. Not this one.. there’s much better folk music from this period
