Dagmar Krause
2/5
Interesting album, a commentary of war and political standings. Almost felt like a slam poetry session, with more production value. While a good art piece, I wouldn’t necessarily call it good music, or something I’d enjoy listening to often

The Band

Not super memorable, feel like I’ve listened to this album 20 times at this point. 2.2

Violent Femmes
4/5
Definitely feels like it could have been made in the last decade. Very catchy songs.

New Order
4/5
Foo Fighters
5/5
Every song in this album is memorable, amazing that Dave wrote them himself.
The White Stripes
2/5
While I wouldn’t put this on for personal listening, I can see why it has charm, as well as having some hits on the album. Didn’t really do it for me.
Blur
4/5
Never really listened to a British brig rock band before, really enjoyed the diversity in songs.
Kings of Leon
4/5
Vocals reminded me of the lead singer of Highly Suspect and Kaleo. Like the synths and instrumentals sounds almost experimental with traditional electric guitar mixed in. After finishing I recognized a lot of the songs featured, but never knew the band.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
3/5
Nice folk acoustic album, surprised I haven’t recognized many of these songs, easy listening.
Kanye West
4/5
I recall getting this albums years ago when I was a teenager, and not really appreciating it all too much, haven’t listened to it since. Now that I’m older I realize why it’s so revered all these years later, all songs sound unique in their own way, very memorable.
James Brown
4/5
I think the big highlight of this is the liveliness of the crowd and it feeling intimate. The energy the artists bring this from a good, to a great lovely short and exciting listen.
Gram Parsons
3/5
Haven’t heard of this artist, easy listening. I picture myself driving an old f150 down the interstate in KY for some reason while the sun is setting, at least that’s the mood I gather from the album.
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Never listened to much of Paul’s music outside of the Beatles, a man can write a good pop song I’ll give him that. Only real complaint is some of the songs like to overstay their welcome a bit too long.
Radiohead
5/5
I listened to the Kid A Mnesia version and I love this album, I only really paid attention to radio head a couple years ago but they’re so uniquely their own. So easy to listen to.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
Sounds like a more modern album than it is, not sure exactly why, but it does. Overall another easy listening.
The Strokes
4/5
Never realized this album is only 35 min long, love me some good short songs. But yeah timeless sounds imo, catchy, and overall great listen.
The Shamen
3/5
Groovy sounds, something to chill to. I’m dowwnnnnnnn.
Soul II Soul
2/5
Some decent songs, but a lot just seemed to blend together. Found myself tapping my foot, pretty groovy stuff (when heard)
Sabu
4/5
Won’t lie, never listened to a Congo album, but damn I’m glad I did.
Kanye West
4/5
I’ve been in the dark about a lot of Kanye’s music. Man this album is really well produced, I’ve ’known’ about it, but never listened. Good character and great beats.
Caetano Veloso
3/5
Something I think I’d hear on half volume, in a cafe somewhere.
3/5
Sound very similar to the Beatles, not a knock on them, as their subject matter was a bit different.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Cool lyrically, singer songwriter duo I need not repeat what everyone else raves about them. Though personally I never really listened to their music much other than occasionally.
Gillian Welch
4/5
Reminded me a lot of Joni Mitchell, love her voice and the atmosphere here songs create.
Dagmar Krause
2/5
Interesting album, a commentary of war and political standings. Almost felt like a slam poetry session, with more production value. While a good art piece, I wouldn’t necessarily call it good music, or something I’d enjoy listening to often
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Hard to be ‘super’ objective with this album, a staple in anyone’s personal collection. Each song seems to drop with character and emotion, be it vocals or strings. I’d be willing to bet it’s difficult to find someone who DOESNT enjoy listening to this.
Depeche Mode
5/5
“Sound of the 80’s”. I really dig these guys, good introductory album to listen to.
Simple Minds
3/5
Another 89’s pop synth band. I’m going to rate this a 3 as it’ll even out my last review for Depeche Mode. I still like both but I think I rated the other higher for a reason.
Also, noticed how the melody’s were all over.
Bad Brains
4/5
Getting more into 80’s punk rock, I dig it!
Yes
5/5
What a fun album, the instrumentals were so expressive like they’re talking with one another. Meme song aside (which the full ver turns out to be killer btw).
Lorde
4/5
Other than a couple brief songs I listened of Lorde in highschool, I never gave the artist much attention. This album feels pretty unique in its pop style but heavy, moody, and focused lyrics.. well produced too imo!
Mekons
4/5
Celtic Punk? That’s new! I’m liking European 80’s bands more and more, this is no exception.
Franz Ferdinand
4/5
Another great album where I recognized a few lyrics, relish I knew about them sooner!
The Stone Roses
5/5
You could have told me this band was more modern than it was. Timeless rock I dig em
The Stranglers
3/5
Faust
3/5
German ambient music, just wished the songs were a bit shorter.
Otis Redding
5/5
Fantastic blues album, several memorable songs that I’m surprised I haven’t known of as late.
Sugar
3/5
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
Emotionally charged political album, only really knew of here outside the recent news of her passing from some hits she has. I think she had some real impactful songs that can hurt.
The Byrds
3/5
Grooovy, easy listening. Some of these songs are great, some others forgettable.
Sufjan Stevens
4/5
I love how unique this album is to Sufjan himself, not many artists have his kind of style and story telling in his music.
The Flaming Lips
5/5
Interesting psychedelic pop album. I’ve always known about this band, but never had a good listen to them. Reminded me a bit of tame impala which I love.
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Kinda weird British prof, I get the appeal as something that could be listened to on a crowded party blitzed, but I can’t imagine I’d put this on any other time.
Judas Priest
4/5
I lovvvvee Screaming for Vengeance, guess I’ve never checked out their other albums much. Just raw metal.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Marvin Gaye is a treat, What’s going on is such a directed emotional album, puts you in a certain mood listening through it.
Norah Jones
4/5
Beautiful voice, good solid album, distinct songs that aren’t all over the place.
Supertramp
3/5
Van Halen
4/5
Rock hits, short and full of ENERGYYYY
The Band
2/5
Napalm Death
4/5
Never heard of em, guess I like death metal? This rocks! Short album, short songs, tons of energy, all headbangers
Bob Dylan
4/5
Need to listen to Bob Dylan more, I now he’s an icon, and especially great singer songwriter. I haven’t been exposed to him much yet.
Richard Thompson
3/5
Another good listening album, especially after listening to Bob Dylan
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4/5
The Verve
4/5
Groovy, I’ve been listening to bittersweet symphony for a while, and though it starts a bit from the rest of the album, overall I liked the pace and feel.
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
Rufus Wainwright
5/5
Want One and Two are such amazing albums, Rufus has a very unique voice and his songs are just as beautiful.
Silver Jews
1/5
Eh boring
Duke Ellington
5/5
The Doors
4/5
Pixies
5/5
So many fantastic hits from this album, absolute banger.
Kraftwerk
2/5
I feel like this album was made in some guys garage using tin cans, prices of plastic, and lots of electronics.
Really wish the songs were half as long, or at least some sort of variation in the beat
Stevie Wonder
5/5
A-ma-zing, truly a timeless album. Stevie wonder? More like, Stevie with the wonderful lyrics and melody in his works.
Orbital
3/5
Reminds me of the matrix, or people dancing around a dimly lit floor wearing baggy clothes and spiked hair.
I feel like this album may have influenced certain genres based on the quality of songs and when it came out.
Blue Cheer
2/5
Feel like I’ve heard this album 100 different times by different artists.
Metallica
5/5
Metallica good, what else can I say.
Tricky
3/5
Morrissey
4/5
Wow I love this album, reminds me of the Strokes I think? May be the wrong band to compare to. Also lyrically this guy is great.
Queen
3/5
Some hits on this album, other songs not lead by Freddie aren’t memorable to me at all.
Prince
5/5
William Orbit
4/5
Weird, but I like it. Some of the songs make me think that it was used as inspiration for other work in the future.
Steely Dan
5/5
Nostalgic cause my parents would play this album a lot
Rush
4/5
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Groovy, easy listening, something I’d imagine playing in some dudes Cady in the 80’s. I can dig it
Jethro Tull
4/5
I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would upon initial listen. Full of character and soul, great flute solos, lyrics were good as well.
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Interesting! Unique sounding album with good charisma.
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
Belle & Sebastian
4/5
Mellow and pretty, these songs put me in a better mood while driving
The Zombies
4/5
Another great album, somewhat timeless, lyrics and sounds don’t ‘seem’ aged, besides some of the production value.
Pixies
3/5
Some hits, all recognizable songs however. I have their greatest hits album which does it for me anyhow.
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Summer is over was probably my favorite by her, very cool sounding song.
The Libertines
3/5
Some brit pop/punk, not bad but not something I’d like to listen to any more than a few times.
Queen
4/5
John Cale
3/5
The Sonics
3/5
Good “at the beach throwing around an inflatable ball” album
Radiohead
5/5
King Crimson
4/5
Few songs, but with lots of substance and quirkiness. Killer album
4/5
This slaps, groovy, great instrumentals.
Jamiroquai
3/5
I listen to a few of his albums, he has a unique sound, and especially voice. Groovy stuff, though not my absolute fav album by him.
Massive Attack
3/5
Not my favorite massive attack album, but good nonetheless.
OutKast
4/5
Beautiful, long, and varied. This album has everything, lyrically dense with good RB and hip hop.
Fela Kuti
4/5
Snoop Dogg
4/5
Nightmares On Wax
3/5
An album I’d be convinced that came out much sooner. Well produced, though I think I’d delegate this to ‘background music’
Shuggie Otis
4/5
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
4/5
This is some fantastic bluegrass / country. Very homey, great fiddling and singing all round. This would be an excellent introduction to the genre (maybe not the whole album due to length) but some songs here and there to introduce.
Janelle Monáe
4/5
I didn’t know what this album was about, nor genre, but was pleasantly surprised. The varied songs and semi experimental music was lovely (helps she has a great voice as well)
The Who
2/5
Not bad, good energy. I’d give it 2.5 if I could but I just wasn’t a fan.
OutKast
4/5
Album has lots of character, after listening to another OutKast album I can see why they have such a big reach, good stuff.
The Cure
4/5
I like the cute, my brother introduced me to them, sound of their own and pretty relaxing. Music to chill to.
4/5
As the outro mentioned, they’re the band that can pull off rock, pop, thrash, and rap. Again another album with lots of flavor and character.
Kings of Leon
3/5
The Electric Prunes
2/5
I thought I’d enjoy this album more but it was a bit too much, like a lazy Beach Boys. 2.5
The Avalanches
4/5
Unique band, not many that do ‘sounds’ remixing or whatever you’d call it.
Beck
3/5
Aerosmith
4/5
Great rock album, packed with classics. It’s not hard rock so it can be played in several situations.
The Cars
3/5
D'Angelo
3/5
The Young Gods
2/5
Ok probably the weirdest albums on this list, like bizarre French grunge music. Makes me want to protest or something. Not bad as it’s certainly entertaining 2.3
Dr. Octagon
4/5
Great rap album, well themed too
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Can
3/5
Van Morrison
3/5
Relaxed singer songwriter album, nothing crazy but not bad either
The Police
4/5
I’m honestly shocked at the variety of the music this album has. I don’t listen to much of The Police but it’s a good first impression.
The Dictators
3/5
Fun album, reminded me of a parody album at times, especially ‘cars and girls’, like it was making fun of The Beach Boys.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
I mean it’s Marvin Gaye, you can’t help but enjoy his music.
Baaba Maal
2/5
Weird, a bit too long. I like listening to other cultures music but personally it wasn’t to my taste.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
2/5
Honestly it didn’t impress me much. I know this band is well regarded but the songs weren’t super memorable to me. 2.5
Magazine
2/5
Didn’t groove me like I wanted it to, wasn’t bad. 2.5
Bee Gees
3/5
Ok I see why I’ve heard The Bee Gees thrown around as a staple band, they kind of reminded me of the Beetles, good thematic songs. 3.5
The Band
2/5
Not super memorable, feel like I’ve listened to this album 20 times at this point. 2.2
New Order
4/5
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Public Enemy
4/5
Always thought Flava Flav was a joke artist, pleasantly surprised he has cared to back himself up. The album seems to predate a lot of the hiphop I’d listen to from the 90’s but carries the same energy! 3.9
The Who
3/5
My favorite The Who album so far! 3.4
Ray Price
4/5
What a voice, just a hint of old Americana and a southern lick. These would pair nicely with a Fallout soundtrack . 3.5
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
Pretty recognizable songs here, yeah an album of the time 3.2
Eminem
4/5
Great introduction to Eminem, listened to singles by his for a while, but the spoken story telling is really fun here.3.9
Arcade Fire
4/5
This album has, and will continue to age well. I’m a fan of their other album, Farewell, and am happy to hear their other works being as good. 3.8
Ananda Shankar
3/5
What a cool fusion of sounds! Guess I’m a fan of the sitar now. 3.1
Yes
3/5
Yes! 3.4
Madonna
3/5
I kinda get it, very pop for the 80’s, lots of midi instrumentals, decent lyrics. I’m surprised how much I liked Oh Father, especially the melody. 3.3
Motörhead
2/5
The recording of this album is really hindering it, sounds like it was taken using a 10 dollar children’s microphone. Anyways just another grunge Brit band nothing crazy here. 1.8
Various Artists
3/5
All great Christmas staples, obviously only will listen to around Christmas, but when you do they’re fantastic. 3.3
Wire
4/5
Fun British punk album, good mixing too. 4.1
The Killers
4/5
King of the karaoke, honestly fantastic album, hasn’t aged a day. 4.2
Jimmy Smith
4/5
Short good rhythm and tunes, perfect for a coffee shop easy listening. 3.8
Joy Division
3/5
The album starts to get monotonous after a while, not saying it’s bad in any measure but it’s hard for me to listen to it straight through, vs having a couple songs I really enjoy on occasion. 3.4
50 Cent
3/5
Loud, bashful, energetic. I’m not a 50 cent fan by any measure but this was a fun listen, even for this one time. 2.9
Brian Eno
4/5
Somber and melodic, each song has something unique to appreciate. Really enjoy the piano on any the River. 3.8
Jurassic 5
4/5
Wow this is a fantastic hip hop album. Beats are slick, and the bars are TIGHT. Very melodic which I’m a huge fan of. Surprised I haven’t heard of them before. 4.0
Lightning Bolt
1/5
What the, what the hell? I thought this would only be a couple songs to explore their experimental mish mash, but this is a bit too long for comfort. 1.3
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Love these songs sound like they have some deeper inspirational meaning behind them, feels emotionally charged. While his voice may be divisive, I quite like it!. 3.3
Stereo MC's
3/5
Groovy, kinda like a laid back British Hip Hop album. Definitely feels like it’s from the 90’s which is a bonus! 3.4
3/5
I like it, very of the times album. 3.3
Frank Zappa
3/5
The only frank zappa album I own, I enjoy it. Good guitar / instrumentals. 2.9
The Kinks
3/5
I’ll place these guys as ‘another band that could stand side to side with the Beatles and I probably couldn’t tell the difference’. Now that being said I do really like the Beatles, but it’s hard to tell apart imo for this genre. 3.5
Arctic Monkeys
4/5
May be on of AM best albums, all slammers, good melodies and lyrics. 3.8
The xx
3/5
Kind of reminds me of Gungor! Not too bad but not something I’d have in my collection, I will say the lead singer had a great voice. 2.8
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Would it be fair to call this a pop album? Really catchy stuff, it hasn’t aged itself too much thankfully (for better or worse. 3.4
Raekwon
4/5
This is some good rap, great mixing, vocals, and beats. 3.6
CHIC
4/5
My parents would play this for me constantly when I was younger, Le Freak in particular. So ENERGETIC, makes me want to get up and dance to the groove. 3.9
Arcade Fire
4/5
Probably my favorite Arcade Fire album. Each song just ‘sounds’ unique, and of their time. Good lyrics, instrumentals, and all around great. This album has and will age great. 4.2
Femi Kuti
4/5
Man what is this, jazz fusion? Damn fantastic, so much soul and passion with the songs. 3.8
Metallica
4/5
Cmon now, one of their best albums. I can’t NOT hate Enter Sandman shit just gets me hyped. 3.8
The Vines
4/5
Kinda sorta reminds me of nirvana, lead singer doesn’t sound like him, but the tempo and ‘feel’ of a lot of the songs remind me of them. 3.6
The Monks
2/5
I can appreciate what this album is, but it’s hard for me to enjoy the music, good for a listen through. 2.2
Steve Winwood
3/5
For whatever reason this reminded me of 80’s and early 90’s sitcom music, maybe it was the midi they used I’m not sure. Overall I enjoyed it, easy listening. 3.1
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
Haven’t heard of her but very reminiscent of Ella, hell the last song plays into the fact that she’ll sing like her. Great voice on a live track, mild audience is always a plus for these recordings. 3.5
Talking Heads
3/5
Couple hits on this one, I can’t say in a huge fan, but I enjoy listening to them on shuffle. Gotta say they have good melodies and beats. 3.4
Coldplay
4/5
Probably one of, if not their best album. Sound of their time, very classic Coldplay. Leads voice is also pretty memorable, lyrics and melodies good. 3.6
Iron Maiden
4/5
I like Iron Maiden, but it’s a band (for me) that once you’ve listened to some of their music, you’ve heard it all. Their sound signature is pretty unique and exciting. 3.5
Barry Adamson
3/5
Bizarre, in a good way! Very experimental jazz, but I enjoyed it. 3.4
Funkadelic
4/5
Who’s got the funk? 3.8
Belle & Sebastian
4/5
Damn this is a banger, love their vocals, and every song sounded great. 3.8 what a wordsmith I am
The Who
3/5
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
So, new soul / Motown? I haven’t heard of this artist before, but man it goes down smooth, very gentle beats, lovely regardless. 3.6
fIREHOSE
3/5
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
DAMN! This album is straight sex, the ways these guys can make their instruments sing is incredible, so much passion oozing out of this live jam. 4.2
David Holmes
3/5
George Jones
3/5
This man just wants to SMASH, god some of these older lovey dovey albums are just really desperate sounding dudes (not really but I find it funny all the songs revolve around this) anywho, 2.8
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Oh I get it, you know funny I have a few of his other albums (GKMC) but never listened to this one. Wow this man is a word smith, beautiful sounding too. 4.2
U2
3/5
Just know of U2 when their album was put on everyone’s phones against their will. I’m guessing this being one of the earlier albums, I like it. Very 80’s, synths are fun and distinct vocals. 3.1
Joan Armatrading
3/5
She has a lovely, sultry voice. Passionate vocals and instrumentals, the songs and melodies sounded very personable, if that makes sense. 3.3
ZZ Top
3/5
Something a man in his late 40’s to 60’s would listen to while driving his cuda. Cool rock, definitely of its time. 2.7
Parliament
4/5
FUNKY, hell yeah this is a FANTASTIC funk album, wanted to get down in the office as goofy as that sounds. 4.0
Beyoncé
3/5
I recognize her as a fantastic singer, I’m just not a big fan of her music is all. There’s a ting of heavily overproduced sounds and beats that are mixed in (which is expected), but overall if you like her music more power to ya. 2.6
Ramones
3/5
I’ll get flak but this album is kinda boiled together, all the songs have the same vibe and energy, hard to discern them apart from a few, though I will say they only sound like themselves. 2.5
Carole King
4/5
Beautiful voice, powerful vocals. 3.5
Public Enemy
4/5
Another banger, good beats, message was strong even now, flows like a story. 3.7
Astor Piazzolla
4/5
Interesting and quirky instrumental work, they could communicate passionately or delicately with one another. I loved the variety of instruments used too, very unique album: 3.5
Miles Davis
4/5
It’s Miles Davis, his albums have strong personalities of jazz, which I’m fond of. bitches brew seems to be more blunt, less lighthearted than his other albums which helps it stand out. 4.0
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
3.2
Dr. Dre
4/5
Lots of fantastic talent in this album, explorative in its themes, hard bars. 3.9
Sparks
3/5
Ha! Really enjoyable quirky album, the melodies were actually pretty decent, nothing felt too repetitive. 2.9
Stevie Wonder
5/5
I have yet to hear a Stevie album that wasn’t ‘fantastic’. Everything about this man and his music is decades ahead of everyone else.4.5
Green Day
3/5
While not their best album, it’s memorable. Tons of hits here, makes me energetic just to listen to them all. 3.3
The Beach Boys
3/5
Quick fun album, just so easygoing, both lyrically and their sound. Kind of enjoyed the banter at the end of the album helps to humanize and relate to the members. 3.1
Stevie Wonder
5/5
This album was a building block to those after it, it simply doesn’t miss. 4.5
Ali Farka Touré
2/5
2.4
Shivkumar Sharma
4/5
I really liked this, it’s so damn catchy. A little under an hour long but the harmonies of the instruments work wonderfully off each other. 3.7
Elvis Costello
3/5
3.4
The xx
4/5
This duo are great for each other, composition and melodies are chill, been listening to em for ages. 3.5
The Rolling Stones
4/5
3.7
R.E.M.
2/5
One or two hits, but besides from that these songs just aren’t as memorable for me. The energy is seemingly there, I just can’t get into it. 2.4
Lou Reed
3/5
Has a voice of that 80’s kinda slick, kinda hungover but still singing vibes. Almost sounds like the Smiths. 3.2
Emmylou Harris
3/5
Such a gentle voice, that southern lick also helps in her music imo. 3.0
Tracy Chapman
4/5
Great meaningful soulful lyrics, this man can SING too, just a fantastic artist/album. 3.8
MGMT
4/5
One of their best albums, excited and focused alt. I think I may like little dark age more but either are great. 3.8
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Glad I listened to this, my only exposure to him prior was Hallelujah, which his rendition did NOT do justice (though he conceptualized it) this album is a lot more coherent and nice. 3.0
Burning Spear
2/5
It’s reggae, so if you’re into that I’m sure you know who this is. Not something I’d usually listen to but a nice change of pace. 2.3
Little Richard
3/5
I’m in the late 50’s, eating a hamburger and coke for 5 cents at the local drive in, little Richie comes on, I whistle, life is good. 3.4
Paul Simon
4/5
Paul Simon can write and sing, who knew! 3.8
The Jam
3/5
Kinda hippy British rock, lots of hits on this album, great melodies. 3.3
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
Fun and excited, great album to listen to if you have a lot of energy, Cyndi’s voice is unique imo and it helps carry this quirky album. 3.5
The Jesus And Mary Chain
2/5
Melancholic and slightly mundane, I feel this album is more about lyrics than the melodies or musicality, not something I’ll be interested in again likely unless I take a deep dive. 2.4
Muddy Waters
3/5
Rock before rock, edgy and soulful, great crowd as well, just the recording was a bit higher quality or remastered. 3.2
The Flaming Lips
4/5
I think this album is just straight up charming, the vocalists unique and child like voice, the brash instrumentals which feel well produced although everything sounds like it’s been recorded in a garage. 3.8
Nirvana
4/5
Probably one of their best ‘album’s, really personal and passionate, no bs tracks or filler. 4.0
The Divine Comedy
3/5
This was weird, experimental but very poignant, goofy kinda bizarre lyrics mixed with lots of mentions of horses. I kinda dig it. 3.3
Billy Joel
4/5
An iconic album, kind of a staple in all senses of music. She’s always a Woman will always have a special place in my heart. 4.2
Gang Starr
3/5
More 90’s hip hop/ rap, this album felt a little less political but the beats were great, haven’t heard of them before. 3.0
Nick Drake
3/5
Sad history about this guy, but hauntingly beautiful music, you can hear how he’s feeling which is pretty cool. 3.1
Elton John
4/5
Erm erm yeah it’s a great album, this man can write, sing, play, you have it. 3.9
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
4/5
Didn’t know Damon had a side band like this, how cool! His voice is pretty unique so it stood out but I quite enjoyed the energy as the melody and instrumentals are different enough from the Gorilaz. 3.6
Neil Young
3/5
Unique voice and writing. I don’t think I can appreciate this as much as other people for being historically important. 3.4
Beatles
3/5
If you like the Beatles, I’m sure you’ll like this album, not my favorite of theirs however. 3
Hüsker Dü
3/5
Couple bangers, cool ‘roomy rock’, like they’re playing in a warehouse screaming at the air. Either way I enjoyed! 3.2
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Really wish they mixed this better, sounds like rocks on a decent set up. Classic songs though great rock. 3.5
Bill Evans Trio
4/5
This recording is great, taken in what sounds like a cafe? The quiet murmurs of people talking around your head is great, makes you feel like you’re there. Oh, and the music is soothing too ;) 3.5
Charles Mingus
4/5
This is HARD jazz, in a good way. Shits so personal feels like their instruments are describing a divorce or something. 4.0
George Harrison
3/5
Lots of great relaxing rock, though he has a very stagnant style imo that doesn’t deviate too much from song to song (if you like one song you’ll like em all) 3.0
The Temptations
3/5
RB, very easy listen cool timeless music from the 70’s. 3.2
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Man this hits hard, can’t imagine being in a rave when this landed in 95’ I can only imagine. If you’re into 90’s house this is it. 3.4
Missy Elliott
3/5
Nice hybridization of Rap and Pop, haven’t listened to many of these but it was good. 3.3
Can
3/5
Structured but a bit chaotic, great percussion. 3.0
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
Just straight jazz, no filler but nothing extraordinary OTHER than the fact this was from the 50’s! Feels a bit more contemporary which is cool. 2.8
CHVRCHES
3/5
Pretty chill synth pop, really enjoyed the leads vocals it led this album pretty heavily. 3.0
Daft Punk
4/5
Lmao probably one of the most influential house albums ever, though not my personal favorite from them it’s pretty damn good. 3.9
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Never heard of swamp rock before, but I can dig it. Seems like a great album to put on during a hot summer day with friends, or going on a drive or something. Great vocalist and strings. 3.2
Leftfield
3/5
More house rave music, pretty good? Definitely felt of its time but if I was at a club playing these I’d probably have a good time (if it was the early 2000’s) 2.7
Fiona Apple
3/5
I mean, I really dig this. Just super experimental pop I think? Pretty serious lyrics and mismatched beats. I fell like anyone would be on the fence of this typically though I thought it was good. 3.2
ABBA
2/5
Very ABBA’ey, they’re popular but I’m not a huge fan. 2.3
Radiohead
4/5
Heavy hitter, widely recognized as a GOAT album, lots of new ideas and sounds given the time. Very deep and experimental in a HUGE fan. 4.4
Prince
3/5
I never realized Prince wrote these songs… I feel dumb. Also, this man fucks. 3.4
The Temptations
2/5
More soul, personally I’m not huge into it, feels about the time which is great, wouldn’t throw it on personally. 2.4
Duran Duran
4/5
I’m biased, Duran Duran was the first brand I had on my first iPod, love love this album. Unique, exciting, poppy, very recognizable. 4.0
The Monkees
3/5
Heard of this band, like the beetles, beetles are good, yum yum. 3.2
Neil Young
3/5
I’ll admit he’s a good lyricist, and his songs were very passionate. I think his almost child like way of singing adds to the charm. 3.0
The Black Keys
4/5
Iconic album, slaps, cool, good, 3.6
The Residents
2/5
This is a soundtrack for a fever dream, wow pretty out there. Very, odd. 2.4
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Paint it, Black was almost lightning in a bottle, such a fucking great song it made the rest of the album sound sort of mediocre? Just Blaise after the fact, 2.7
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
If you like bob Marley and reggae, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this, too. 3.2
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I think this is my fav LZ album by them. 4.0
The Isley Brothers
4/5
Honestly flabbergasted that I didn’t know of this band (just their music) I swear every song is incredibly recognizable and timeless, just fantastic. 4.0
Rahul Dev Burman
3/5
3/5
I’m not a huge U2 fan, though this is probably one of their best albums. Just a bit too sluggish, especially near the end of the album I had to double check it was still playing, couldn’t tell. 2.7
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
Fun and brash alt band, pretty cool vocals and I like the lead!. 3.3
The National
3/5
I listened to this album while working on my car, now, it drives better. Coincidence? Yeah probably (the music was good too). 3.3
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Yeah, pretty cool, bro. 3.5
Serge Gainsbourg
3/5
Is this French man trying to seduce me? I think it’s working! Like they’re in my head talking sounds so personal. 3.3
Steve Earle
2/5
Old country, lots of twang, quick songs. Not something I’m much a fan of but I get the appeal. 2.4
Adele
4/5
I’ve only really ever listened to Adele from her biggest hits, and knew she had a great voice but never delved deeper in her albums. WOW she’s great, and I feel kind of bad not having heard many of her other songs, such a rich sound, with great backing to assist. 3.8
Thelonious Monk
4/5
Great jazz, tight knit band too they bounce off each other well. 3.5
Rod Stewart
3/5
Pretty fun rock album, one that feels pretty genuine somehow cause the recording quality ain’t all there. Rod’s voice too, a bit unrefined but that adds to the charm. 3.2
The Pharcyde
3/5
Great hip hop, loved the instrumentals on the tracks too. Felt pretty original! 3.4
Coldplay
4/5
One of their best, honestly this and parachutes is why I fell in love with Coldplay years ago, just doesn’t get old. 4.0
Youssou N'Dour
3/5
2.5
Aphex Twin
4/5
Great electric ambient music, this album is famous so nothing new over here, for the time, this must’ve been a trip. 3.8
The Police
3/5
First concert I’ve been too, fondly remember (though didn’t care for at the time). Musics not bad, but in my opinion you either like em or don’t, the more gentle rock works sometimes and other sounds a bit pop-y. 3.0
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
AWESOME, they’ve got some slick beats, lots of classics and bangers in this album I had no idea were theirs. 3.7
Deee-Lite
3/5
Fun and poppy album! Nothing seems to drag on too long and was moving the beat consistently. 3.3
Joan Baez
3/5
Great vocal control, sounded ethereal almost with how she sang, added in with the tender lyrics this is a beautiful album. 3.3
Buena Vista Social Club
4/5
Close your eyes, imagine you’re listening to these songs from a couple of old gents down an alley way, cool crisp air, smells like coffee or something idk. Fantastic Cuban music. 3.6
George Michael
3/5
He has such a peculiar voice, gentle and young, mixed with 80’s synth sounds, makes this time capsule of pop. He also sings effortlessly which is cool. 3.3
Madonna
3/5
Super poppy, not a huge fan of Madonna but a couple of these tracks aged well imo (better than others) 2.7
The Blue Nile
3/5
3.3
Beck
4/5
The one man army, he can write and sing verrrry well, I think all of his albums have held up great over the years. 3.5
The Pogues
3/5
Love this punk Irish ‘flogging Molly’ esq band, gets me in the mood for a bar fight. 3.0
The Replacements
3/5
Vocalist reminded me of Kurt from Nirvana, some of the music seemed to draw from them a bit. Melodramatic but hard. 3.0
The Beta Band
3/5
Easy going, but like the album wasn’t taking itself too seriously. 3.0
The War On Drugs
4/5
Somber and sweet lyrics / melodies. Very timeless sounding. 3.6
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Damn, ya know, never gave Biggie the time of day but a man can rhyme. I’m a fan of a bit older rap as it’s more coherent to me and I can really get into the groove. 3.9
Elliott Smith
4/5
Wow can’t believe I haven’t heard of him before, really cool alternative music that didn’t sound repetitive or messy. 3.5
10cc
3/5
3.3
Roxy Music
2/5
Cool interesting voice and vocals, not something I’d put on often unfortunately. 2.3
Madonna
3/5
Some more classic Madonna, good pop for her time, some of the music is more timeless than others and holds up. 3.0
Sex Pistols
3/5
Good ol’ classic punk, would be fun to put on if I’m getting drunk, or road need to get hyped or angry In general. 3.0
Morrissey
3/5
Honest to god, didn’t realize this was the lead for the Smiths (until my brother told me) go figure! He has a great voice and this just seems like an extension of the band, the more the merrier. 3.3
Everything But The Girl
3/5
Yeah definitely of it’s time, not knocking it down (birth year rep). I’m a big fan of 90’s synth sounds with this certain vocal style and feel. 3.4
Michael Jackson
4/5
The king of pop, yeah they’re all bangers, yeah he weird with kids. 4.0
Genesis
3/5
Love land of confusion (not on this album) but it gave me a decent look at the sound and energy this band has. Gotta say the instrumental’s really carry here. Bri’ish innit. 3.3
Ride
4/5
First time I’ve listened to a ‘shoe gaze’ genre before, though I really enjoyed this. Very syrupy, cool flow. 3.8
Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart
2/5
Bit of mix from different styles and genres, lots of Latin instrumentals. 2.4
Deep Purple
4/5
Holy hell, what I’d do to see this live. This man can belt. 3.5
Slipknot
3/5
Some of these songs I can appreciate, but in general this thrash genre I’m not super keen on, though if I had to choose this would be the slipknot album I’d throw on. Just fun enough without being ‘try hard’ in my opinion. 2.8
Thundercat
4/5
Fantastic. From the vocals to the beats, I’m not sure if I’d get sick of soul-like music coming out since a majority of the time, they’re great. 3.5
Joni Mitchell
4/5
I want to bottle her voice up and keep it for days which I feel bad. It’s so unique and cutting, too me, almost a perfectly delicate singing voice, that’s passionate and soothing. I’ve always been privy more to how a song sounds, vs. its lyrics and meaning, but this album strikes both so well. Her other album, Blue, is also terrific which I’ve listened too. 3.7
3/5
Love me some BLUR, they’re the most British ‘sounding’ band I’ve listened to, which isn’t saying a ton cause several bands have their accents and what not. I don’t know they have a certain way with their chaotic instrumentals and lyrics that works well. 3.2
The Last Shadow Puppets
3/5
A nice adjacent with the Arctic Monkeys, this band / album defiantly focuses on the more intimate ebb and flow, like singing to a lover. 3.3
Dire Straits
4/5
Classic, every song here rocks. I will always love Sultan of Swing it’s too good. 3.6
Orange Juice
3/5
Very 80's. Big fan of the lead's voice. The jazz combo is a nice pairing with the feel of the music, definitely helps it stand out apart from other albums. 3.0
Kate Bush
4/5
Unique, soft gentle voice, excellent accompaniment with the piano, and a timeless sound. This is one of her better albums though I prefer Hounds of Love a bit more. 3.8
Isaac Hayes
3/5
Soulful and heavy, only 4 songs but they show their weight. I’d put this on on a somewhat dreary day with good feelings. 2.8
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
1/5
Yeah, I ain’t feeling it. 1.3
Kelela
3/5
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
I’ve been listening to this album for years, just a homage one though. I think I enjoy this more than the other, very memorable. 3.3
Prince
4/5
Like dark chocolate with some wine, good to be enjoyed, just often enough. 4.1
The Roots
3/5
Haven't heard of these guys, but I'm a big fan of this style of Hip-Hop. The backing was great, and a nice diverse array of songs that didn't make this album feel long at all. 3.4
Fever Ray
3/5
Utilizing a bunch of odd sounds. Finger snapping, clapping, spacial beats. These mixed with her unique sounding voice and vocals makes the album a bit more peculiar. Gotta say though it’s hard to make out what she’s saying a lot of the time. 2.8
Ray Charles
3/5
Some of these are great, the rest are a derivative of “oh my lovvveee” with the backing vocals acting like angels. 2.5
Aimee Mann
3/5
90’s upbeat pop, I’d definitely describe my feeling of wanting to listen to this song as ‘Whatever’, it suits it well. Very aloof! 2.7
The Byrds
3/5
Not my sauce, but I can tell my parents would dig this album. I’d need to be driving a VW bus, on the pacific highway to really get in the groove of this. 2.7
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Nice techno, like dark syrup enveloping me. Heard his other albums are good too but this one was nice. 3.3
The Rolling Stones
2/5
This album felt flat to me, hard to describe but it could be the way it was recorded I couldn’t get through. 2.0
The Fall
2/5
If I was drunk in a ditch somewhere and I heard this blaring, it’d track. 2.0
Beck
3/5
Lots of variety and experimentation, Beck is terrific especially as a one man crew. A bunch of these songs now-days feel contemporary with how forward he was with his work. 3.4
Beatles
3/5
This is one of heir more lighthearted albums imo, one of my favorite songs Michele is on here as well. Goes well with everything, it’s the vanilla of Beetle albums. 3.4
The Mothers Of Invention
3/5
Really fun, if I didn’t know the year I’d think this was more recent. Definitely poking fun a bit at some song genres kind of like it’s a parody in some ways, but the songs themselves hold together on their own well. 3.0
The Prodigy
3/5
I want to go to a rave for this album so much, it’s very 99’s, coherent, techno that I love. 3.3
Nick Drake
4/5
This album has a lot more depth and weight when you realize what Nick Drake was dealing with at the time, easier to visualize while listening to the album, as dread as it can come across. His unique subtle voice and creative chord work makes this a classic, bar none. 3.6
Guns N' Roses
3/5
Apart from a couple songs that I recognize from games like Guitar Hero (or Burnout ;)) I haven’t heard a majority of this album, partly, I’ve never been super interested in Guns N’ Roses, but I get the appeal. I feel the big hits like Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise city stand out a ton, but the others are good to, but just don’t hold up quite as ‘hard’ as the rest. 3.1
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Wow is this contemporary or what, everything here sounds timeless, and pungent. 4.0
Milton Nascimento
4/5
Damn this fusion is beautiful, not many Spanish albums I’ve heard I guess as I’ve pidgeon holed them in their own genre, but this slaps. 3.9
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Almost 2 velvet underground albums in a row. I’ve had this one for a while now. It’s like I’m listening to some unique art. 4,0
Arcade Fire
4/5
Wow! The percussion overall was a big highlight on this album, truth be told I’ve never listened to this one yet but it holds up to the rest of theirs. 3.5
JAY Z
3/5
3.4
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
I just imagine a bunch of hippies singing these, not bad just funny. 2.7
Nina Simone
4/5
She’s has a very unique voice that suits this band well, lyrics are interesting and pungent. 3.9
John Coltrane
4/5
Straight jazz, communicative and expressive. Long songs but you’re listening to conversations between some greats. 3.6
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Ok to start, Joni’s voice is something special, incredibly talented singing aside her sound is so uniquely hers it can be pretty overwhelming, mixed with the excellent story telling she does in her music is fantastic. 3.4
The Stooges
3/5
Felt like stoner rock, hard on the strings with words strewn in, would probably be a lot cooler if i was on psychedelics. 2.5
The Black Crowes
3/5
Some good ol rock, lots of hits on here, memorable and timeless. 3.3
R.E.M.
3/5
Seems like this album was made in a small box or room, feels congested (not necessarily a bad thing but the feeling i got). Lyrics were cool and the main vocals were unique to say the least. 2.7
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Pretty good hip hop, short and sweet. Coop beats and lyrics. 3.0
Linkin Park
3/5
Cant hate this album, pure edge (for those who like this sort od stuff). 3.0
KISS
3/5
Very fun glam rock, i was introduced to KISS when i was young from family and games like guitar hero, just never explored their albums much. I get how theyre more than a brand, kind of like a sensation or ‘characters’. 3.2
Sonic Youth
3/5
Good punk energy, liked the vocals and guitars quite a bit. 3.2
John Prine
2/5
It felt like a meta commentary album that used country to mask its intentions. Otherwise this would be no different than the seemingly hundreds of other drowry country albums at the time. 2.4
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
2.9
Circle Jerks
3/5
Wow great great punk, they can shred too. This album made my hyper 3.3
The Smiths
3/5
If you like the smiths you’ll like this album. Whats more to say. 3.4
Iggy Pop
3/5
Eccentric pop, what a coool cat. His mannerisms remind me of Prince a bit. I can see why people like Iggy. 3.4
Stan Getz
4/5
Absolutely fantastic, beautiful, timeless whatever you want to call it. The melodies and vocals meld so well with the instrumentals. Girl from Ipanema is a classic too didnt know it was from this album. 4.2
Johnny Cash
4/5
I love live albums like these, feels so real and personal. johnny sounded like he was having a great time, and probably a treat for the inmates too. 3.7
Weather Report
3/5
Really good (hard?) jazz. Any band that communicates well while riffing gets my vote. 3.3
Elton John
4/5
Classic elton john. I havent listened to this album throughout before, never really noticed how soft his voice was in some songs. 3.6
Sonic Youth
3/5
Second album ive listened from these guys. I’ve come to appreciate their pretty unique vocals and tracking, though I’m more of a fan of EVOL. 2.8
Dion
3/5

4/5
I need this on vinyl. 4.2
The Smiths
4/5

Was introduced to them years ago. They have a unique sound just reminds me of some valley or field, hard to hate. 3.5
The Doors
2/5
2.4
Ravi Shankar
3/5
Pretty neat, i liked how they explained some of the rhythms and timings of what they were playing, giving you an idea of how and why it sounds the way it is. Not something id listen to often though, but good nontheless. 2.5
Eagles
3/5
Other than Hotel. California, and a few other tracks, i just couldnt get with this album. Sort of felt out of place, like it was confused on the sort of music it wanted to be. 2.6
The White Stripes
4/5
The White Strips have a way of making you tell they care about their music and rock, which is why this album have aged so well. 3.7
Taylor Swift
2/5
Very divisive artist, you either love her or hate her. Im not a huge fan of this sort of pop, heavily over produced and a bit repetitive. First time listening through entirely. 2.0
The Bees
3/5
Chill beats, listened to twice and without knowing i probably couldnt pin down a tear on when it was released. 3.0
Doves
4/5
Beautiful and atmospheric, the guitars were talking the whole album, great vocals as well. 4.0
Metallica
4/5
The orchestra adds a new layer to their songs, like pairing a nice wine with some cheese, they compliment each other well enough to make something new. 3.9
Simply Red
3/5
Catchy 80’s pop/rock. Fun to listen as it’s not too serious. 2.8
Country Joe & The Fish
3/5
Very gentle country? Man’s got a voice I’d kill for. Lyrics were impactful and sorrow. 3.2
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Not bad, RHCP has a pretty consistent sound and identity throughout their albums, which leads to some melding to their albums. Pretty fun however! 3.1
Herbie Hancock

Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Classic album, heard these songs so many times before, just not in the original sense through a full set. 3.4
Iron Maiden
3/5
Iron Maiden is a classic to come back to, most of their music is still solid, not too much fuss just straight rock. 3.3
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
Boomer music, probably will get a lot of hate but man was this album boring, I can imagine it playing in an old folks home. 1.5
The Smashing Pumpkins

Lowly country, sad and thick, not something I’d put on often but I think her voice and the instrumentals lead this album well. 2.7
Pere Ubu
2/5
Very odd stoner album, pretty experimental for when it released, wasn’t terrible but not something I’m interested in listening to more than once. 2.2
The Kinks

Giving me those 70’s rock, beetles vibes. I’d expect to hear this at some small venue or bar, not bad but not memorable either. 2.5

Listened twice, I just couldn’t find it all that gripping. Between his voice and the pacing of the album, this felt like a slam poetry session if anything. 2.1

Pretty chill, see why he’s such a big name in the scene. Kinda dig his vocals, instrumentals are great too. 3.5
