Reviews (page 12 of 12)

Well this is different. It’s surprisingly funky, the guitar and beat is great, getting used to the vocal and different language. Track 2 slappin. I wish I knew what they were saying. Feels like blue grassy. Hearing their vocals contrast with the “western” sound is trippy. As the album goes on I’m starting to get distracted though and the lure of these clashing sounds is getting old unfortunately. Lots of respect for this group especially given what they’ve gone through in their lives and they are very talented but for my personal preference just not my cup of tea.

Was driving while listening so limited notes. At first it kinda reminded me of Sheepdogs. It was cool music and i can definitely appreciate it, but just wasnt my jam. It was interesting listening to an African band with a very western sound.

First listen Saved 4/11: Soubour Irganda Al Hassidi Terei Wayei

Los pibes saben. Interesante historia de trasfondo y suena bien pero se lleva dos estrellas porque no es algo que me po dria a escuchar con regularidad.

Very repetitive. Like their sound but the language barrier is a challenge.

My favorite was Desert Melody

Enjoyable and musically expressive.

i love the music of mali. i would like to go there one day. i do not like this this pefume with this music reminds me memory. its a memory of love. ----- biographical note ----- wow staff party so much stuff a phantom shitter wow ----- biographical note -----

Not bad at all. I'd give it another star if I understood Spanish.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.

Not for me

I had expected English vocal blues. Instead, the lyrics were in local language. I don’t like listening to vocal songs that are not in English. And the music was more R&B than blues. Still, the music was pretty good but I didn’t care for the songs where there was singing. I will give this album 2 stars.

2.7. The musicianship is pretty good. When I was 7 or 8 I had a friend. His babe was Maurice. When we listened to music he couldn’t remember the words. So he would just make up the words. When I listened to this album I couldn’t help but think of him.

all the songs started really well... but after a while they got really repetitive. that annoyed me a bit

I have learned via listening to this album that desert blues is definitely NOT my cup of tea lol. I appreciate the backstory behind the album and the defiance in the face of authority is very punk, but that isn’t really reflected in the music.

No me gusta el estilo.

Strange , not bad . Maybe a 2

My first experience of Malian desert blues. Moderately enjoyable and different, but I much prefer the original Southern USA blues classics.

Não gostei muito do estilo

Prima achtergrond muziek. Niet heel bijzonder verder. Vind dat gezang wel nice ff maar het verveelt best wel snel.

Inoffensively average, not a lot going for it though, a bit boring tbh.

ok i listened to it before i died.

Just couldn't really get into it

It's ok i guess? I'm not sure why it's on here (common theme with newer albums on the list). The description of everything surrounding the band and the album are a lot more interesting than the actual music on here. In one ear and out the other really. At least it's some variety outside of the usual classic rock/pop stuff.

Nice blues sound, but not for me.

Alcune carine altre un po meno

Very repetitive but some very fun guitar lines. After the third or fourth songs it sounds like the guitar solos were almost all random hammer ons and slides. “Nick” is super catchy and fun. Overall mix is good, would love some more unique and interesting bass lines.

No me gusta el estilo.

Mehh coudnt understand it

I like how the fast paces backing contrasts the slower but no less rythmic vocals. Their music compels you to be swinging back and forth. It feels as though it most definitelt should not be listened to alone, sitting at a desk (as I am doing now - sorry). Al Hassidi Tereia and Nick both have a lot of variation and I particularly enjoy the harmonies in the slower vocal parts of these songs. The only other thing perhaps worth noting is that, since they are singing in another language, I have no idea what the lyrics mean.

Les instrus sont excellentes (même si ya souvent le meme riff tt la musique) avec de bonne idées pour les solos mais les voix africaines la je peux pas ça nique tout l'album

Really not my thing. I found many of the sonic qualities landed a bit harsh on the ears.

Never expected an unknown language to influence how much I enjoy an album

interesting but became a bit boring. not bad just kinda eh

Despite some of the songs on this album sounding like the soundtrack to a Ford truck commercial, this album does enough to stand out as its own thing and not the just be the rock band you hear on the "alternative" rock radio station. However, that difference is still rather boring, with songs blending together towards the halfway point of the album, and very little making it easy to tell the tracks apart. I wouldn't call this solely a rock album, but just like that genre, it's so vague what this album presents it's hard to have strong feelings about it. The film centered around this band from the same year seems interesting though, and I assume that may be why this album was on the list. Also weird that Julian Casablancas got it distributed over here in the United States. Small musical world.

Liked the first track, but then it just flowed over me as every track sounded similar to the one before it. Was bored of this long before it ended.

loved the african covers of rock classics and their own interpretatation. intro def my fav

not my style

I respect their musical talent but I just didn't like it.

Estilo blues con algo de música étnica entremezclada. No me aporta nada, puesto que no es un género que me entusiasme

Not a big blues fan

Hyvää työtä kenian poika... Yksinkertaset on rytmit.. ei kovin hurjia lyriikoita ole.. mitäs jos vaikka se suomalainen itsesääli rantautuisi afrikan rannikoille.. aroille kuumille.. norsut tiikeri.. elämä harmittaa pakko painaa eteenpäin mentality sisu... Isoisäkuolitalvisota.... veteraanit kunniaan.. huonosti menee suomessa... Todella hyvä meininki albumissa... vaikkei oikein osata paljoa äänellä tehdä ja kitaralla pedaloida..

Different, didn't really catch my attention

I can hear the influence of all sorts of blues musicians, from the classics of Albert King to the hard rock variant of Jimmy Page to the modern works of The Black Keys. The rhythmic guitar work and vocal style is also very similar to the mbalax work of Senegal, which I'm sure is very highly influenced by it considering it neighbors Mali. Hearing this fusion feels very fresh and intriguing. At least for the first half where it was prominent. The second half lacked that charm. But either side, I did find them fairly boring and repetitive. Most of the songs feel like they could jam for 10 minutes but stop too short, which is not enough time to feel particularly invested. If both sides were like the first few songs, I'd give them an extra star. If they had more innovation and vigor like the Black Keys, I'd give them two.

Musically good, but not my kind of music. 2.5/5

I understand why this album made it to the list... But it's not for me

q aburrido lpm

Yet another uninteresting album zzz

2.75/5

Olishan se ihan kiva ymmärtää mistä lauleskellaan. Kivoja riffejä muttei tarvitse enää uudelleen kuunnella. Ei ihan paska.

Vaikkei sanoista tajunnu mtn, nii mieluusti meni alusta loppuun. Vahva kakkonen

Muy interesante! (ONB)

Nah…

Worthy but Not for me or the list.

Great Instrumentation, I didn't like the vocal performance as much.

I was quite surprised to have heard some of these tracks before , unknowingly. Very vibrant, I love the interesting guitar rhythms . But by the end I thought the album tired & too many songs were similar.

Fun, pleasant, not a stand out album but perfectly listenable. I get the left field blues from Mali vibe and it is interesting for that but otherwise a fairly unremarkable blues album.

A bit of a one trick pony of an album, with all the songs sounding pretty much the same. Yet another album that was probably selected to be here probably not due to musical merit.

Fine, not offsensive, but didn't make me sit up and listen at any point either

No me gusta el estilo.

2/11, 18%

Alright I guess 4/10

Meh...ok I guess. 2/5

Was oke

Some great moments, but a bit too ‘background’ at times. Probably better live.

Heard it before: No Enjoy it?: Not really, it just came across very repetitive and flat to me. Can’t fault the guitar work in this but ultimately not for me Favourite song: Track 8 - Petit Metier

I thought I was gonna dislike it more because it's blues, but it was okay. Can't remember what anything sounds like though. My favourite song was Irganda.

Not really into it but thought it was kinda interesting. I liked the blending of African and western styles.

It was alright background music, but don't think I'd actively look for more of the same.

I dont like it

An interesting and fun look into music from Mali.

Hmm. Does not move me

didn't hate it. Based on wikipedia seems like they have really interesting history and motives, but due to the language barrier and the fact im not really into blues music thats 2

Just OK

It was okay, not really my vibe though.

Best interessant, maar het repeteert me teveel.

Kweenie hoor.

Definitely interesting

Pas fan.

Great beats, a little too repetitive for me to get into.

I liked it, but couldnt listen for a long time.

Garbage

Not a fan but they seem like chill dudes

Decent R n B album

I quickly tired of the repetitive sound of this album, but did you joy a few bright spots and uniqueness

favs: soubour al hassidi terei sekou oumarou rating 1.4/5

🫩 couldn’t get into it

The guitar on the first track was interesting, but really this just isn’t for me.

I didn't like this. Very simplistic. I don't know who made this list.

Ahhh. Music is so just situation dependent. I got this on a rainy miserable Sunday when I felt rubbish. On a different day I’m sure this could be something I love but right now I have a headache and want to go back to bed. This was far too chipper and annoyed me. When it ended I listened to The Microphones and Songs:Ohia.

Не удалось послушать :((((

Did not get why this was included. It was fine but not stand out

Redundant

Not for me.

не мое

1 or 2 that I had a little groove going, but mostly music I am not into.

I listened to it but didn't hear it. Not my bag.

I ain't

Sum1 loves you, but it ain’t me

Buns on wax

Not my thing but my mom would love this

¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Vaya racha que llevo.

I dunno, I'm not a fan of bluesy stuff. And this is pretty repetitive. And never was a fan of guitar noodling.

No he llegado a disfrutar del disco

Are we really just putting anything in here? This was just random blues from Africa

No… music not bad but voice and motive can be better

Not my bag.

Not on Amazon Music

Me not likey

Did not like

Not for me

Don’t feel like listening to international stuff.

This mash up was an utter failure for me.

Not my jam

Not for me... I would need to do copious amounts of acid, shrooms, or some other illegal hallucinogen to listen to this.

Bad bad bad. Direct rip off of american blues. When the brit bands of the 60's were influenced by the blues at lest they changed them and made them thier own. Not being in a language I speak made it all that much worse. This sould not be on any list. I give it a .001

Fun for a song but the novelty wears off quick

How many of these are going to say "Not for Chad"?

Not my jam

not my style

Didn't care

Apart from my wanting a Nandos I got nothing more from this album

Derretir

1. zoubour - 1.5 2. irganda - 1 3. terei - 1.5 4. zekou - 1.5 5. nick - 1.5 6. bele - 1.5 7. uuayei - 1.5 8. petit - 1.5 9. jolie - 1.5 10. melodie - 1.5 11. mali - 1.5

I tried. The circular nature of the rhythm, which seems to me to return too spastically in incomplete cycles, made this more than difficult to listen to.

Definitely going to need to see the write up on this one. Can't say I am tremendously into it.

Not for me.

Lidt for langt fra mit udgangspunkt

Wtf was this?

Ok to listen to once

I am sure this is great music but…….

EXTREMELY repetitive music. Language I dont speak isnt a barrier for me to enjoy music, but its the only thing that might make it interesting. Otherwise, if you heard first 30 seconds of the song, you heard the entire song. It doesnt evolve anywhere. NNN

good sound but not a fan of the vocals

I went into it with an open mind, but I just couldn’t enjoy it. Too bizarre

I think its because I don't understand the language

Not for me

Not sure what language this is in, but it's kinda catchy. Don't think I'd find myself listening to them again though.

Com todo respeito, o álbum é bom, mas não acho que deveria estar na lista

Definetly not for me

versta er niks van, wel funky maar niet echt mijn jam

Did not enjoy

Tried the first song and thought no ty

1.5/5 - I did not connect with this album at all

I didn’t care for it

Not good

I’m sure it’s cool live, though?

Definitely not my type

dificil de escuchar con todo respeto a los compañeros de songhoy blues

Old school blues, but the regional tone of voice does not appeal to me.

нет абсолютно нет

new music not my type of music but it had some great guitar playing was a meh for myself

Not the best album. The instrumentals weren’t that bad but the world theme isn’t one that I enjoy much. This just doesn’t feel all that important. 2.3/10

The language barrier just ruins this for me 1/5 People say the musicianship is amazing but I think it's meh I've seen much better blues players Sad I can't understand the lyrics God how long is this album

Not really into music that isn’t in English so can’t really provide a good review. Music was good but not something I enjoyed to listen to.
