Reviews (page 10 of 15)
I didn’t want to like this. Excellent album.
Ok, I'm getting all the classics now. 4
A stone cold classic that is just full of hits!
14th July 2022 Listened in the morning while working from home. Had cox and Barnett round in the evening. I’m wobbling a little due to the lad culture of oasis, but it is a classic.
4/5
Swagger can take you a long way. (They blew it by putting a lyric sheet in Be Here Now. Some people haven’t stopped laughing…)
Hello Wonderwall Hey now! Some might say Cast no shadow Morning Glory Champagne Supernova
Good album but never was a Oasis fan
Great album though a little too long. "Wonderwall" is obviously overplayed but I've always thought "Don't Look Back in Anger" was a fantastic song.
ok
Wait, so Oasis didn't end on the Wonderwall? Oo I'm ashamed of not doing my research. This record has such a strong nostalgia vibes. A really pleasant album. Soothing in a weird way. Highlight: Champagne Supernova
Superściana przeruchana, ale jest dużo innych spoko nut (roll with it it, hello, champagne supernova), słuchając miałem wrażenie nostalgiczności. Mocne 4, może i 4,5.
Jestem pełen zrozumienia dla nienawiści do Oasis. Wkurzający wokal, z dziwnym wymawianiem głosek, proste teksty, brzmienie będące podróbką Beatlesów i amalgamatem kilku innych zespołów.
Its not as bad as I thought it was
Crazy how there are three absolute BANGERZZ from the late 90's on here! I also really dig the "Swamp Songs" as little hard rockin interludes! This is a really solid album from a very nostalgic time, and it totally holds up!
Never listened to a full album from Oasis before. Obviously like everyone I know Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger, but there's some other songs here that are quite nice (like Hello).
4.5/5 that was good!
Brit-pop. 3 superhits.
This was my first listen for this album. I kept thinking that Oasis reminded me of another band...but maybe it just reminded me of them. I liked the album, and it sounded like 90s rock. I guess I am not super into the sound though, because it kind of got a little boring for me.
Ahhh The Brothers Gallagher when they sort of got on....interesting that fraternal conflict manifested itself in the the Kinks previously too where the Davies brothers couldn't get on in a band together. Noel so wants to be Macca to Liam's Lennon in this record, unfortunately they don't quite hit the mark but there are some cracking tracks here. My Favourites "Don't Look Back In Anger" "Wonderwall" (Of Course) "Roll With It" the Kinkslike "She's Electric" and "Champagne Supernova" A Very good Britpop album. Rightfully here.
An absolute classic so has to be 4*
A classic. I think if it was a tighter 8-track album it could be a five.
CD
bem divertido
3.5 stars
Here's your classic 90's alternative album and it's a lot of fun. We have the always timeless wonderwall and champagne supernova on this one along with a few other fun ones. Not a huge fan of Oasis but glad I could finally listen to the album all the way through.
A classic in its own right. Contains the anthem of amateur guitar playing pricks worldwide, "Wonderwall." And despite the meme, it's still a great song. There's some other great ones on here too, especially "Champagne Supernova." I like this one a lot, and I think the vocals have a lot to do with it. Whichever of the brothers Gallagher is responsible for this, kudos. Favorite tracks: Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say, Morning Glory. Album art: Very indistinct, we've had a handful of street scenes on this list already. But it's definitely recognizable for me. 4/5
Un classique. Définitivement le meilleur album du groupe et un gros morceau des années 90. Une chanson de cet album se retrouve impérativement dans toute playlist rock/alternative de cette décennie. Pièces préférées: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova
Overall, it's a pretty good listen. Decent music, good drive, a bit poetic at times. Not bad. I still wouldn't rush out and buy it, but I most certainly didn't hate listening to it. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. I wouldn't call it 4 stars, but can't see giving it 3. So it gets four by default.
Possibly the best album ever made by a pair of absolute bell-ends
Oasis are a band I always shat on but I can't lie, I really enjoyed this album. Some absolute bangers.
At the time I really liked this album and listened to it many times, but nowadays prefer their debut album. WSMG is still an excellent album of course that is way better than any of their later albums and I would still rate it as 4 stars. It is a pity that some of their strongest songs around that time are not included, for example: Talk Tonight and Acquiesce, b-sides of Some Might Say. (It's remarkable, at the time Oasis could - if they had wanted to- have easily released a WSMG Part 2 and it would have been just as strong as WSMG.)
Great L.P. This is the one that put me on the Oasis bandwagon
So anyway, here's Wonderwall. Not sure they were ever going to be the next Beatles, but pretty good.
4. not as raw as def maybe - not quite as indulgent as be here now! ha. what a fuckin time though!
Imagine liking Blur more than this ;)! It's not the best Oasis album, but I'd be lying if this didn't have a big impact on me growing up!
A lot better than I'd expected. Was every song off this a single? Felt like it!!
I have, (like everybody alive), heard Wonderwall way too many times in my life. Went in really wanting to smugly hate this album so I could be vindicated but Oasis are, unfortunately, actually quite good at making music. There's a couple of somewhat 'meh' tracks but at least half the album could have been singles. The album as a whole also feels shorter than it is which I think is a good thing - better to leave the listener wanting more than leave them wanting it over.
Epic 90’s indie. Although a bit dated, there are no weak songs here.. Wonderwall has kept its magic, but in retrospective songs like the title track, and Champagne Super perhaps even better
Solid album.
7/10 Not as fresh as when first released. Lots of classics which still get the foot tapping but suffer from being overplayed on the air.
One of the best albums of the decade. Packed with great songs, this album is a pleasure from start to finish. Standouts: Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Roll with It, Morning Glory. Others: all the rest! A very strong 4/5. (Note: I don't give 5's to just a TRULY great album that has survived the test of time. )
I didn't necessarily like all of the tracks on this one, but I did enjoy it overall. Don't Look Back In Anger is my favourite, it never fails to make me emotional.
Lots of great songs in here. 4.5
I said maaaybaaaaay!
The biggest problem with "(What's the Story) Morning Glory" is that I filled my quota for "Wonderwall" years ago. Every subsequent time I listen to that song now overflows the container that I reserve for music that tries to deftly navigate the demilitarized zone between the Fab Four and Brit Shit. Speaking of the Fab Four, "Don't Look Back in Anger" is both the most Beatles-esque and best song on the album, and boy did the world want Oasis to be the second coming of the lads from Liverpool. Which is a totally unfair and unreachable expectation to place on any band, let alone a band that featured two brothers that hated each other too much to get anywhere near the prolific success of the Beatles early years. That said, you don't have to be the Beatles to make a good record. And this is pretty good. Except for "Wonderwall."
First of all, the beginning of the song Morning Glory sounds like The One I Love by REM. How did I never notice that before? Secondly, how did his voice not annoy me in the 90s? Don't get me wrong, I still like some of these songs. Hello is underrated and is an excellent start to an album. Roll With It sounds like they want to be the Beatles while Don't Look Back in Anger actually sounds like it could be the Beatles. And of course there is the aforementioned influence of REM. It was a nice walk down memory lane, even if it's one I am not likely to repeat any time soon.
Iconic cover, iconic bangers. Wonder wall to wonder wall hits here. Probably their finest work
great britpop album
Don't Look Back in Anger > Wonderwall. That's my hot take for today.
It is a classic.
a few repetitive sounds but overall one of my fav albums
Es wena esta wea, antes de que oasis se pusiera zzzzzz
The best of this album IMO: - Hello - Roll With It - The Swamp Song - Excerpt 1 - She's Electric - Morning Glory Great tunes. Gotta love British rock and Britpop. Oasis truly has a unique sound, they're recognizable. (But I don't like Wonderwall lol. Mostly because of the hook though.) I still prefer Blur. ;-) 3.5/5
I don't understand the Brit Pop Wars. Or at least, I don't understand the whole Blur vs. Oasis fight, almost like it's supposed to be a Beatles vs. The Stones or Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam sort of battle. To my ears, this is more like generic vs. brand name, with Blur being generic throwing stones and insisting they're the same, if not better, than the "brand name" Oasis. It's the nail vs. the hammer. There's no comparison. Oasis is better, there isn't even an argument. Wonderwall is an all-timer (yes, Wonderwall itself is a stone cold 5). There are a shitload of bangers here. Some were so over played in 1995 and 1996 to the point of annoyance, so I tended to avoid the Gallagher Brothers in their heyday. My bad. Not every track has the, ahem, wonder of Wonderwall, but this one is aging nicely overall.
Oasis at the pinnacle of their creative success. It plays like a greatest hits and it's good. It's enjoyable music. Not my favourite, but damned if I won't sing along to Wonderwall every single time it comes on. Have to.
I think I mentioned this before, we watched a Britpop documentary a while back, it was quite interesting to hear more about Oasis. I only really knew this album. Still, the Beatles influence is overwhelming. It’s too bad the Gallagher brothers hate each other so. I would have liked to have heard their sound evolve. I think what they had was something that cannot be easily duplicated, and between brothers like that? Impossible. But Oasis sure gave it a try. I like this album a good deal, but I never get a chance to listen to the whole thing. It feels very slick, but we’ll-produced (that’s the 90s for you.) Really recommended.
Hard to rate this one and separate it from my childhood. Not as good as Definitely Maybe which I gave a 4, but should really have been a 5.
Gut zum im Hintergrund laufen lassen, 2-3 allgemein bekannte Lieder, Rest auch ganz gut.
Obviously a classic. Definitely some great all time songs, but let’s take a star away for all the familial egotism.
Oo
Super good album. Unique sound with many hits on album. Seems ahead of it’s time.
Pleasantly surprised. Had only ever heard the overplayed singles.
Not bad, not amazing
Histórico
Has all of the Oasis songs I know. What is on their other albums?
An album with more singles than it knows what to do with. Taken by themselves, these songs are well written and have a fully formed sonic vision. Too much personal exposure blunts their impact on me now but something needs to be said for their ability to command attention. Its not a 5 star album for me because all of their low tempo acoustic stuff all sounds the exact same!
Definitive sound, sometimes a bit repetitive in the first half of the album with similar vocal delivery. The second half picks up considerably and ends well. Keeps your attention throughout and is a perfect length. Some might say favourite
Good album. not much to say
thumbs up
Cool classic rock bangers, nearly all good songs. 7/10
1995. Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Morning Glory
Obviously the mainstream hits: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova Really liked She's Electric, Morning Glory, Some Might Say as well 1st album on 1001, have not listened to the whole of this album before With 3 as an 'average' album, 4/5, not a fan of some of the songs, score is pulled up by aforementioned mainstream hits which taking nothing away from them, are really good
Some big hits on here, some of the filler songs did nothing though
Known this album for a long time. It’s a great one
Roll with it is a great track. Very 90s nostalgic feel and very beatles-esque. Dont look back in Anger is also a banger. Wonderwall isn't the best track on this album!!
Classic, classic album. One of my favorite of the Brit pop era. Liam’s voice gets a little grating at times and songs tend to go a bit long on the outros, but great collection of singles carries this album. Pick of the album is “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” nothing wrong with ripping off your influences when it works this well.
Continuing with the 90s, this album was more tolerable to listen to than when it was on repeat.
Totally rad album. I didn’t realize how many bangers were on this. Absolutely deserves to be on this list.
Un album qui a créé un genre ou du moins popularisé. Un band très gros avec un album aussi gros contenant les classiques chansons de oasis que tout le monde connaît. J'ai aimé le son plus rock que les chansons que je connaissais sur labum . 4.25
This album specifically reminds me of the time in 1995 when my brother and I were planning a day trip to Auckland but he locked the keys in the car at the Five Cross Roads petrol station. But once the keys were liberated, we took off to Auckland, the Oasis CD blasting from the stereo. Morning Glory is a very full-on album. Every track is dialled up to 11, all rock 'n' roll excess. But if you're going to go there, you should go all the way - and that's what they did. It still holds up, but it's not the sort of album I'd ever relax with now. I'm older and I don't have the mental stamina for such vast expressions of rockstravagance. But from time to time, it is as enjoyable and comforting as a cup of tea.
More of a 3.5 than a 4.
Pretty legendary album
Love it. More polished than the first album Oasis released. Really well produced. There are some great hits on this.
i like the cover art
As much as I haven't enjoyed a lot of the Britpop that shows up on this list, this album seems like a reasonable choice. There were lots of hits off this album, and the rest of the songs were all solid. It doesn't sound that dated either, which is always nice with albums from this era 4/5
Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger, She's Electric, are all great.
Mmmmm, like a warm blanket of good ol' alternative bliss.
Ja classic he, een tijdloze. Wel niet allemaal even sterk
anyway here is wonderwall Oasis op hun best?
Tunesome, classic. The loudness wars got to this one a little bit. Never listened to the non-singles, but almost every track could have been a single. That’s a rare thing!
La motivation à rédiger des reviews a totalement disparue, je suis du coup forcé de chercher à me réorienter dans un secteur d'activité me convenant plus.
One of my favourite albums of the 90s. Some great tracks starting with "Hello" "Wonderwall" is a classic but probably one of the weaker songs on the album. "Don't look back in Anger" "Cast No shadow" and "Champagne supernova" are all amazing tracks with a few weaker ones throughout. The in between short instrumental tracks go but don't go with the ones they're coming from/leading into. 4 to a 4.5 as far as albums go .
This album is the result of the height of the Britpop war. Before these tracks, Britpop albums held closely tied to their roots in alt rock, baroque rock, and punk, but starting in this album (and its contemporaries), Britpop began to take on an identity of its own. This album really put the "pop" in Britpop. Tracks are loud and orchestral hitting us with high notes and clear yet introspective lyrics. Nearly the whole album is full of hits (or should be). British Invasion influences are clear in many of the songs like the Beatlesesque "Don't Look Back in Anger" or the baroque "Some Might Say." It's hard for me to criticize songs like "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova" due to them being two of the most overplayed "modern" rock songs, but after listening to the album as a whole, I appreciate them much more. The album is consistent, and it initially shocked me how neither were lead singles, but it makes sense how much they fit in (personally almost all the songs felt like ballads). The weaknesses I felt was that this felt too oriented toward the pop audience, relying too much on loudness and instrument overload, and the lyrics aren't perfect either (catchy but for the most part not very interesting). This is a seminal British album that rocks from start to finish.
It has its ups and downs but overall it is a great album.
Oasis is a bit of a guilty pleasure to me. In terms of overall quality, they really can't hold a candle to other iconic Britpop outfits such as Radiohead and Blur. Despite that, I can't help but love tracks such as Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Hey Now!, Some Might Say, She's Electric, Morning Glory and Champagne Supernova. They are incredibly catchy, the lyrics are meaningless but fun, and there is a nice balance between typical Britpop mid-tempo tunes, psychedelic elements and sweet ballads. Liam's voice can get a bit on my nerves sometimes, thus Oasis is best served a couple of tracks at a time. A 4/5 for what I believe is their best record, is thus a fitting score.
I loved Oasis when I was in my teens and early 20s. This was never my favourite album of theirs though, and my general perception is that their music hasn't aged well, so I was interested to revisit this, with fairly low expectations. Listening afresh this album holds up a lot better than I was expecting. Noel certainly knows how to find (or borrow) a catchy melody and Liam's voice was amazing in this era. It could do without Hey Now or the two short unnamed (Swamp Song) tracks, but overall I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would in 2021. If anything it has gone up in my estimation since I last listened to it a decade+ ago. I suspect that may not be the case with some other Oasis albums, but this does stand the test of time and remains a genuine classic.
Very good album. I love Don’t Look Back in Anger.
I haven't listened to this album front to back in about 20 years. I've forgotten how good it is. Knowing how the Gallagher brothers have fared since their rise to fame has tinted how freaking talented they are. 4/5.
Very familiar album. Wonderwall still feels overplayed though I haven’t heard it in years. All the tracks are solid. Very good album
Some songs are classics and certainly hold up. Some songs sound silly to me and I guess there is a place for that but it goes against their persona IMO
4
Loud cocaine rock - if you’re gonna be rock stars be rock stars. No songs about romance or social issues or reflectiveness or politics. Just cobble some nonsense together, turn it up to eleven, have a ball and look the part whilst doing it. And it works. There’s only a couple of weak tracks on this album and Wonderwall will forever be the song that everyone in the university bar sang along to, whatever their usual taste in music. A moment. Well done, Oasis.
Really like this album. Should listen to oasis more.
Erste Hälfte des Albums ist sehr gut. Die zweite habe ich nicht genau angehört.
Classic
Super fun. I have a lot of good memories from finding this album in secondary school. Definitely a gateway album for me that led me to more distorted and psychedelic music from emo and punk. Nothing too artistically crazy but has a special place in my heart.
I don't think I realized how much of a bias I have towards 90s music. I feel like it must have just made some kind of impression on me from a wee age b/c I haven't really listened to Oasis outside of the hits (which includes more than just Wonderwall on this album) but just really found the whole album enjoyable. Would listen again.
90's Brit Rock encapsulated in an album. The middle tracks leave a little to be desired, but the amount of major hits and impact this had show its status as a modern classic.
Lots of people shit on Oasis, but they know how to make a bunch of anthemic singalongs
Only listen to this a bit. Managed not to get Wonderwall stuck in my head. Score! Great album though.
vOndErVolLL
There are a lot of jokes to make about Oasis, but this is a pretty great album that I have a lot of fond memories of.
Aanstekelijke rock! Nice :D
90s grunge sound with strong influence from latter years of the Beatles. Very good
The hits are there & overall rocks hard. I kept from a 5 because I think it suffers a little bit from a lot of the stuff in the in-between sounding kinda the same.
Love the hits, rest is good.
Only a meme because it’s actually good. It takes a lot of skill to make hooks out of lyrics this nonsensical. More of a 3.5 but I’ll be generous
It's easy to forget how massive this album was. Some really iconic tracks, but some nonsense too.
The Stone Roses singing Beatles songs. I do love this album.
Brit-pop. 3 superhits.
Great album. Most of the Oasis songs I know are from this album.
Anyway, here's wonderwall
Better than I often remember them to be
loved this album when I was a kid. still holds up.
A few good tracks, nice to hear again after a while.
Some memorable songs on the album. I can hear tones of The Beatles in some of there music...wondering if this part of there appeal in Europe
Great easy listen with some amazing throwback songs
And I thought that wonderwall was going to be the best song on their album, boy was I wrong. Great album, super solid all the way through.
Top 10 albums of the 90s
Pretty good, serene.
Previously liked songs off the album. First time listening to it as a whole. Thought it was great!
Great memories with this one
While a couple of the songs on this album have become jokes because of how overplayed they were back in the day, it's still a really good album. Proving that the most dysfunctional groups put out the best music.
This album is great. Wonderwall is a pretty good song, but not the song this album deserves to be remembered by. "Don't look back in anger" is the true banger, and the finale "champagne supernova" is also really good. Solid album, one of the best I've encountered here so far
Some good classics
3 songs that I will definitely listen to again. Overall enjoyable.
Glad I finally listened to it all the way through. Anyway here's wonderwall
Oasis is the height of 90s British rock
Very recognizable oasis sound. Some good ones on there.
A classic I feel glad to have listened to. What a nostalgic sound that I really enjoy.
Överlag ganska starkt låtmaterial. Influenser från, Beatles, Stones, T-Rex. Bredbent, ger mig en tom känsla. 3.5
very good walking album, liked the song with the name Sally in it
Ahhh… the battling Gallagher brothers. Takes me back.
Oasis aren't terrible, and neither is this album - some diamonds in the rough. But mostly pretty samey, often pretty boring, and Liam Gallaghers annoying vocals. Their reputation fucks them up cos honestly, how are they so popular? Probs because their diehard fans are the type of bloke whose favourite song is Vindaloo and hasn't listened to anything new since school. 6 / 10 Best track/s: Don’t Look Back In Anger, She’s Electric
I dont like the attitude and the arrogance of the Gallaghers and I would take Blur, Pulp, Suede, Supergrass, etc. over Oasis any time. Totally overrated, imo. The rating is not so bad, cause the album contains my favourite Song by them. Fav: Champagne Supernova
Sounds like music that would be played in a pub but did have some great moments
Good album but inconsistent and a lil too British… for the sake of scaling my ratings, I’m giving this a 3
not my cup of tea but i loved wonderwall and hey now
Alright fine I guess this one's not so bad. Decently enjoyable Fav tracks: Roll With It, Champagne Supernova
Yeah, this one has their hits, and some of the hits are fine. But such a one tone, one note, one sound record, and often cringey as hell lyrics. When they hook, they hook, but this is never as great as people, and Oasis, say. It's also good they save Champagne Supernova for last because the record gets boring and annoying by that point.
Everyone has heard this a million times
Never listened to this album before but I knew some of these songs already. I really enjoy the ones I knew, but the others were ok. So, it didn’t meet my expectations prior to listening to it.
The real difference between a two and a three is kinda just how I'm feeling on that particular day
I'm not a fan of Oasis, but there's no denying a few of these songs are actual bangers.
My opinion of this album for decades: it’s fine.
She's electric var bra. 6/10 Medeltal: 6,5/10
I always felt like Oasis was The Stones to Blur's The Beatles... you had to pick a side, and the choice was easy for me: Blur and The Beatles. It's not even close on either count. I remember being so incredibly annoyed every time Wonderwall came on the radio I think I'd have done just about anything to avoid listening to an Oasis album. As such, I've made it more than 30 years without listening to anything here but the singles. I repeated "open mind" to myself about half a dozen times before hitting play. My first impressions were that I didn't care much for the whiny vocals or the pointless noisiness of the opening track, Hello. Roll With It was a little better... but neither of these songs have much dynamic range. Wonderwall was actually a bit of a relief... as it went on I started to think that it was actually a pretty good song with a vocal performance I still can't stand. Maybe it would actually be great if Damon Albarn or Thom Yorke sang it instead. They would never. I'd kind of forgotten about Don't Look Back In Anger. Listening to this anew, I was kind of taken with it. The vocal from Noel is effective (and less whiny, which I like) and the composition has a nice variety to it. Easily the best song in the running order to this point. Hey Now kind of returns to the wall of sound I didn't care for in the first two tracks... then Some Might Say starts with a truly detestable guitar riff and the whiniest vocal yet. This is the first song I really dislike on the record. Cast No Shadow is such a relief after that. Some of the best-sounding music on the record and a very good mix between lead and backing vocals. After that, She's Electric is a pretty fun groove. Almost feels like a homage to The Passenger. Morning Glory isn't nearly as good... another filler track. All of the filler is just mixed to sound loud and I feel like my ears would experience distress from repeated listening. I do really dig how the song blends into the instrumental break track, and then again into Champagne Supernova. Artists need to bring back these sort of connected tracks. Finally, Champagne Supernova is another great song. I'd put it up with Don't Look Back In Anger as #1 and #1A on the record. It's quite long at 7:30, but I don't feel like any of that time is wasted. After one full listen and another partial one to remind myself of the albums highs and lows, I think I regret not giving this a chance back in the 90s. I will say the record is definitely more than Wonderwall... even though I picked two other singles as the best tracks. Maybe if I'd played it back then, I'd have given it a chance to grow on me. As it is, I don't think it's an album I'm likely to return to often, if ever. I think the biggest misfire is actually the mastering -- everything on rockier tracks just sounds loud, so nothing stands out. I'd bet the waveform looks like a brick wall. It makes the midtempo cuts and ballads the only songs I'd really want to play again. Ultimately, it's a good record... but a frustrating and flawed one. This might end up being my most-analyzed 3/5 of the entire project.
Never heard this whole album, just Champagne, Subnova, and Wonderwall. It was good overall, but doesn't surpass those two songs.
This album is fine. It's an album that starts strong, falters in the middle with some exceedingly average songs, then picks up a little near the end. If this were just some album put out by some band somewhere, I think it would be easier to simply enjoy it for what it is. Unfortunately, the story of Oasis has become so legendary and grandiose that it's hard not to listen to their recordings without the larger legacy in your mind, and in that regard, I don't know if they've truly released anything that lives up to their infamy. "Roll With It" and "Morning Glory" still slap, though. Anyway...
Classic sounds, but overall okay
Meh.
So laddish
Eeehhhh
Never got the buzz in the 90's. Don't get the buzz now. It's a decent pop record. Don't look back in anger is probably the best song.
Solid a little repetitive but not bad
Singles are great, there is unfortunately some fillers and it could never live up to the hype on release.
Some great songs some just okay. Overall enjoyable enough
It's good but well overhyped.
a few good songs, but so much icky lager rock rubbish
I liked this more than i wanted to. Oasis has a sound and they are truly masters of that sound — straight British rock-pop. The songs are well-constructed and performed. But i don’t like the lead singer’s voice and can’t get by it. He sounds like he’s whining. Some of the songs are good enough that i like them & appreciate them despite the vocalist. But it’s a 3, max.
I honestly don't really have strong opinions or anything truly interesting to say about this album, apart from Liam Gallagher being the singer with most attitude and personality from this movement, even though I don't think it is that incredible. In general, I think this album is just decent. It follows everything that britpop offers : very distorted guitars, catchy melodies and a touch of psychedelia. There isn't anything more to it, and what there is, I don't think stands among other britpop projects I already heard. Actually, I do have a thing to say about this album. Why is it so loud? I had to turn down the volume on this one.
people in the 90's be like: guys they made beatles 2
Wonderwall, don’t Look back in anger, she‘s electric, … Geht schon klar aber kein banger.
Some of the catchiest, most enjoyable music since the Beatles, written and performed by some absolute bell ends. You can tell they love the smell of their own farts, but when they smell like this then maybe they have a point. Simple crowd pleasers for simple crowds. Music that goes down easy. Lowest common denominator sonic junk food. Still fun to indulge in every now and then.
good pop rock, not very innovative. good background music.
i think i just don't like this specific sound of rock and its surrounding genres but its okay because im trying. this one isnt bad fave track: morning glory
ah yes, ignored radio songs. Really dug the closing track!
Not a massive fan of oasis but enjoyed my listen to this. Still feel they’re over hyped for what it is though
it's alright not really my thing
This album has a lot of popular songs. It was very popular. I just don't love it. I don't love Oasis' style I guess. 3.5
solid 3.5
Another album which was just meh to me. I put on the album and never really noticed any of the songs other than a couple were ones I had heard on the radio in the 90's when this group was popular. I wasn't moved by their music in the 90's and I'm still indifferent to their music. Best song, "She's Electric" or maybe, "Cast No Shadow".
It’s alright but overrated as hell. Just about gets three stars
too long
It's the numbing guitar riff heaven of Definitely Maybe but turned up to the extreme, however the songwriting is not as spicy to me.
I liked some songs of it.brings me back to the 90s.
Still not an Oasis fan.
Nothing to say about it.
Ouais c’est pas mauvais mais bon. J’aime pas. Cocasse je trouve le son Morning Glory inaudible.
We all know the hits. I define an album by whether I want or need this in my record collection. I would never put this on the turntable because it's just been overplayed. When they toured last year I was like, yeah, no. While (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is now considered a cornerstone of the 1990s, its initial reception was notably lukewarm (rightfully so), with many critics dismissing it as a derivative or "unimaginative" follow-up to their debut. Mid but not horrible. Somewhere between a 2.8 and 3.2 for me.
A defining album of the 90s, and "Wonderwall" is a staid earworm that I'll never not be happy to sing along to. But for some reason, every time I listen to this album, I grow less impressed. I don't have a solid reason for not loving this, but I just don't. Maybe it's a hype thing. There are some bangers, obviously. But I don't think it deserves its place on the mantle.
It had some bangers, but mostly things I'd be fine never hearing again.
A classic. Very nostalgic, my dad used to play this all the time during the 2010s.
I missed the boat on Oasis as a kid, the Brit pop power revival was huge in the UK, and I missed them. This one starts with bangers and I can’t hate it too much, don’t look back in anger in so good. It is crazy listening to this and recognizing so many of the songs. I do think it missed its really hipster stage, because this would have fit right in. It does have Wonderwall, so for that alone it must be put to death. But who cares what the critics say; as Don Draper would say, that’s what’s the money is for.
yea
fuckin wonderwall man (6.9/10)
Pretty chill, i like the vibes, it feels like the kind of record you put on to go on a long drive. I love the nostalgic feel to it!
second-rate, sloppier beatles for rowdy people. fun and easy to jump around to. i like liam’s voice, it’s very rhythmical, yet there’s something acrid to it. the guitar is nice too but i’ve heard nicer. i like roll with it, wonderwall (obviously), and don’t look back in anger. sadly the rest of the songs didn’t leave much of an impression on me and some i found repetitive and wished they would end. i always have a hard time figuring out if i like oasis or not. i’m sure this is their best album and the only one i would listen to, however infrequently.
The hits here are great but I just feel there's too much filler in between
Not a fan of the vocals on this and I must've heard these songs hundreds of times. Another one of those albums where everyone is guaranteed to have memories associated with at least one of the songs. Don't think I'll consciously choose to listen to this album again, given how often I hear Oasis in day to day life here in the UK. It's pop, it's culturally significant, but it's also nothing special in my opinion.
I think Oasis is a Small Doses Band. One song in a mix? Cool. Twelve songs in a row? I was swearing under my breath after track 8. All of their songs sound very similar to my ears, it got tedious.
I enjoyed the hits and a couple more, but there was too much reverb/distortion for my taste.
wonderwall
I loved the 90s when the 90s were happening. But as I am rediscovering with this list (that seems to be dominated by 90s albums) is that a lot of it, just feels dated and tired. Been there, done that, got the tshirt. I really enjoyed this album once upon a time when I owned it on compact disc. I am feeling with this album, much like Alanis Morissette, a few weeks back. It was a nice re-visit, but have no reason to ever listen to this again.
It was back in the day, Summer, 1995, the weather was nice. It was the time of the Britpop Wars. I liked this album when it came out, but listening to it now makes me cringe a bit. Back then I noticed, and now I really notice, that the lyrics kind of don't make any sense. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to fully get them. The music is nice at least. Overall this album is OK. Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova are definitely catchy as hell though.
Asi que de aqui salio Wonderwall. Dont look back in anger tambien la he escuchado, me parece mejor que wonderwall. Son 3 discos?! que largo. The swamp song horrible sonido al inicio D: Champagne supernova tambien la conozco Le tuve que bajar el volumen a ratos, no es para escuchar con dolor de cabeza
I liked it quite good not my fav but I liked wonder wall and all
fun!
This is another one I've never understood the hype for. It's fine.
If I was a 90's british bloke, would love to drive a convertible with the loml besides me blasting this album through the speakers. Otherwise, kinda mid. Don't look back in anger & Champagne Supernova joyitas tho.
3 1/2
This was better than I thought it would be. Believe it or not, it is the first time I've listened to this through.
the highs are really fucking high but there’s definitely some mid on this.
fui generoso
“…Don’t look back in anger…” perhaps the Gallagher brothers should heed their verse.
Love the classics, enjoyed some of side 2, but the rest just seems so pedestrian to me. Can’t deny that it’s pretty fun stuff tho.
so let me be clear. i tried to like this album when i was in highschool. i was growing into my indie alt phase and i wanted to be “quirky” and “different” and “like oasis” so i listened to this album while walking my dog multiple times. it never grew on me. i just don’t really like it. do i know most of the songs, yeah i do. but do i like the album, no i don't. it just feels like the beatles told the gallagher brothers what to do to be a successful boy band and they followed their advice but only 75% so it just kinda flops for me. it’s just.. mid. but champagne supernova slaps.
Now i know where Wonderwall came from
Meh Overrated But at the time was an alright album
Heh
There is no way to talk about this album without generational bias, especially since it Wonderwall was such a huge hit. Note: I always found it annoying. I have actually grown more appreciative of it the older I’ve gotten and before my deathbed may even acknowledge its cultural importance. Champaign Supernova, on the other hand, I always liked. It was a flowy, jubilant celebration of life, with a little chosen Euphoria mixed it. Listening to the entire album was new for me. Some songs hit (Roll With It); some songs missed (the wall of sound on Some Might Say needed to be torn down). Overall, this album is a classic of the 1990s. There it shall stay.
I was really disappointed when I went back and listened to this album. I remember really loving it when it came out, and in hindsight, it's really a bit boring and trite. I wish I could listen to it with my 1995 ears again.
It's been a long time. Probably going to be another long time.
Took me right back to high school
some classics
ur my wonderwaaaaalll
I enjoyed. Would listen to a few songs outside this. Pretty good. Almost 4?
Did not like nearly as much as definitely maybe
My ears hurt. Anyway here's wonderwall
This was exciting when it was released. Usually, when I hear an album that made an impression on me many years ago, I remember how I felt, and still feel come of the old excitement. This one, though, just has me wondering what I ever saw in it. It's really dull. Roll With It is the only track of any real interest.
there are some solid tracks on this that got played the fuck out and now they just can't hold a candle. I also really hate these two guys. Their ego just ruins it. Anyway, here's Wonderwall.
Purty good.
Replay yes.
3 massive hits but others are just okay they try to hard to sound like the Beatles 3.5
A very good first half of the album that was very fun listening to with 2 very famous songs, however the second half really dragged and was quite a slog to get through and really hurt the listening experience
Alright.
i feel like everyones listened to this at one point in their lives
10 year old me would have confidently told you this album was the pinnacle of human achievement. I must have listened to it 1000s of times back then. Pure nostalgia.
Like a Cheryl Crow album except without Cheryl Crow. A very good album, but in terms of opening new territory or doing something very interesting, nothing going on. They are very good at a sound that is not particularly unique.
Not sure why, but this one didn’t stand the test of time for me. Really loved it when it first came out.
3⭐️/5 [03.01.2026] 03.02.2026
Oueisis. Semmosta brittipoppia, mieluummin kuuntelee kun turpaansa ottaa.
I used to think the Gallaghers were just two massive wankers and to be fair, they probably still are, but damn if they don’t make killer albums. This one’s great.
too many songs, some good
Meh. It doesn't really hang together as an album. The famous song is great, and cast no shadow was interesting, but didn't blow me away.
I’m glad I listened to this because I think I have a better understanding of my antipathy to Oasis. So, like, the song writing is fine and it’s catchy and all but it’s still Brit-pop with all the depth of a puddle. The problem comes with how deadly serious they took/take themselves and their music. It’s fine and that’s it. In other cases like MJ we have to ask if we can separate the art from the artist. For Oasis I ask if can I be bothered separating the art from the artist and the answer is a resounding not really. 3 stars
Me parece un buen disco pero por algún motivo hay algo de oasis que no me termina de conmover.
kinda cool for rolling into a random concert but not smth i’d listen to
The way Liam Gallagher sings make it sound like he is constantly sneering or smirking. My favourite song on this album is the only one sung by Noel...hmmm...I wonder why that is. Wrong...it is because the singing is no good on the other ones.
gostei, relembrei daquela musica wonderwall, fiquei feliz em escutar denovo wonderwall - pode se referir a alguem q te ajuda e da apoio, foi isso q entendi
This is a solid album with a number of great songs. Don’t look back in anger is a fav. I’m between a 3 and a 4 on this - 3 because it’s had its day and not something I listen to all that often. 3/5
full disclosure.....did not finish listening liked better than expected.... mid/high 3 prob
idk mannn its like wonderwall is soo good but the rest is soo mid
I didn't realize until listening to the album that the Gallaghers sing and play guitar with the same oowAAhh tone. If that makes sense. A 90s nostalgia album with a Beatles influence, especially on Don't Look Back In Anger. Also similar to the Beatles in that the song lyrics are "open to interpretation."
You can hear a very strong Beatles influence; I liked the hits the most ("Wonderwall"; "Don't Look Back in Anger"; "Champagne Supernova")
Starts well enough, reaching the peak early with Don't Look Back in Anger, but after that, there's too much mediocrity. 3/5
Beatles lite
I haven't heard of this artist before, listening to the album though I liked a lot of their songs, and even saved a few more after finishing the album. I'll definitely be looking up this artist again!
This is an album that really needs historical context as it was peak Britpop. It hit that mid 90s zeitgeist. Indeed my own affection for this album purely defined by where I was and what I was doing in 1995. But revisiting this album in 2026 did it no favors. This is mid-tier Britpop at best. Completely overrated slop from twin douchebags. Plus for something that's supposed to be a kind of modern arena rock, it's week. The guitars sound thin and the overall production feels treble-y. Do these guys hate bass? My nostalgia is the only thing keeping me from giving it 2 stars. Or 1.
some good hits, not for me long run
Du pop rock britannique des années 90 dans toute sa splendeur. Pas vraiment mon truc, mais c’est plutôt bien et il y a vraiment des passages qui m’ont vraiment beaucoup plu, mais sur un album entier, c’est pas trop mon truc.
Might've heard a tune or two from this album already. Just here or there. Very British sounding. Enjoyable, nothing too special. Wonderwall lowkey mid as fuck but still fun. Wait lotsa hits from here. Damn. This is fun. Yeah good but kinda unremarkable outside of the hits. Me when I cast no shadow. Favourite: Champagne Supernova Least favourite: Swamp Songs
GOING IN: Not fussed really LISTENED WHILE: getting ready for work FAMILIARITY: Know a few songs SKIP RATE: Skipped the odd one REPLAY VALUE: Once was plenty DISCOVERY CURVE: Warmed up nicely ALBUM ARC: Pretty even, consistent VERDICT: Better than expected BODY'S VERDICT: Decent head wobble FAVOURITE TRACK: My Rating: 3 I've always detested these guys, but they sure know how to make an earworm tune. Stuck in my head all day. Bastards.
Undeniably has some bangers but can get a bit samey.
A couple of solid songs here, the rest sound like the rest. This album makes a lot of Top 100 album lists, but not mine.
Seems like a fun band to have seen live, but a bit of a tiresome album.
The fivesome certainly delivers with its moody britpop that it has become ubiquitously known for. It somewhat stands up to the test of time (30 years later at the time of this writing) but it's a bit too dreamy for this listener. It seems this is the bands most critically acclaimed album. I'll leave this one with a 3.5 rounded down. There were moments of "Huh, this is pretty good." during the more rocking tracks like Hey Now! and Morning Glory but mainly I'm left, yet again, simply "whelmed". Musings not attached to the review: Upon release it was quite impactful. So impactful that it has become "Retail-Core", the dreaded genre that I think all bands and music acts hope to never be....In a way, one becomes retail-core by their ubiquitous popularity. So therefore, in a way, being categorized as retail-core means the band has become the pinnacle of success....
I don't know what to say about this album. The songs I'm most familiar with, "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Champagne Supernova" are fantastic. The others sorted faded into the background. I listened to the entire album twice and it didn't make a difference. So, in it's entirety the album is okay with spots of greatness.
It was decent at the time.
3.5
I'd never listened to an Oasis album before, and was pleasantly surprised to find the music different from all the thuggish tabloid exploits I knew them for.
"Don't Look Back In Anger" is my favorite on this album. "Wonderwall" is the worst, of course. I cannot believe I haven’t escaped the fate of having a guy mediocrely sing that song to me on guitar even in fucking Romania. You are not safe anywhere from a mid white guy with curly hair, a guitar, and a hell of a lot of audacity. I fucking hate britpop. What’s all the fuss with these guys? I’m not British, thank all the gods, so I don’t get it. It’s just so bland. Gallagher whatever his name is, I couldn’t be bothered to look it up, has such an annoying voice. God do I hate it. Almost four stars as an overall rating for what exactly? Why? Nostalgia? This stuff wasn’t popular in my country, so I genuinely have no idea why people like it so much. Until recently I thought Oasis was a one hit wonder type of band. I’ve only ever heard Wonderwall, each time against my will. As I was saying, it’s not a popular band in Eastern Europe, I guess. I’m halfway through the album and didn’t even notice. Everything just blends together into an endless nothingness. This feels like it has no substance. Nothing interesting. Nothing noteworthy. I honestly can’t wrap my head around why and how this is such a big thing. I’m genuinely puzzled. It's far from the worst thing I've heard in my life, but it's just so average? Seeing that it is so praised in the reviews I though it was gonna be something groundbreaking.
Not my style, personally, but there were some really good songs in this one. Overall pretty good!
I previously said I thought this one was better than Definitely Maybe since it was already on here. And I think that's right now that I listened to this again. It's not a lot better. But a little better at least. Still giving it the same star rating since its not a full star better.
Solid
Three good songs and 9 fillers that all sound the exact same.
Did nothing for me, but nice regardless
It was all right. A lot more rock sounding than I expected.
Morning glory is better than wonderwall
It seems like I should like this more than I do, but I Oasis isn’t my favourite. Very nasal? Don’t Look Back in Anger is a great song though.
cada música aqui é tão característica, posso ouvir em qualquer lugar e saber de onde vem, mas isso acaba soando repetitivo demais. eu não gosto da voz do liam, mas don’t look back in anger me impede de dar uma nota menor.
I was honestly really excited to listen to this because Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova have absolutely stood the test of time for me I’ve basically been casually listening to them for almost 25 years at this point. But as a full album this leaned more straight up Brit rock than my personal taste, and I could really hear the heavy Beatles influence throughout, which I think is why the rest didn’t totally land for me. I also swear Oasis knew they struck gold with Wonderwall because a few other tracks have that same dreamy string vibe and I kept thinking, “wait… is this Wonderwall?” Overall, this felt more like a greatest hits listen than an album I’d return to front to back. My standouts: Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Talk Tonight
Pretty standard rock/pop album. It's decent. Nothing really stands out except Champagne Supernova. What a fantastic song, and the perfect choice for a closing track. 3/5
Surprisingly Oasis was one of the popular mid-90s alternative bands I didn't really get into. Perhaps their radio presence on near constant rotation was enough to slake my curiosity. Listening now to this album I see I didn't really miss much. The radio singles are familiar (was surprised that a 7:20 Champagne Supernova became a radio hit). None of the non-singles really caught me and overall met but didn't exceed what I expected an album of Oasis songs to sound like.
Anyway, here's Wonderwall... I don't hate it. I don't particularly like it either. The best I can do is - I don't mind, but I highly doubt I'll put it on again. And please, don't make me listen the 4CD remastered 2h 45min version of it.
Too loud but some songs were okay.
3.5
I like the hits, particularly with or without you
I am supposed to not enjoy this type of music but like it was kinda alright in the grand scheme of things. Early 2000s music I physically reject most of the time but I felt music actually enjoying this in parts. Likely wouldn’t return to this but it was fun!
Some of these songs are still inescapable thirty years later and I might be downrating it a bit because they are so overplayed. On the other hand, I was quite lukewarm about them at the time as well.
Apparently I've never listened to the whole album, just the top songs. Really liked the opening song "Hello". Album in total became a little repetitive of a sound, but was still good.
