Reviews (page 9 of 15)
Really surprised how much I enjoyed this album. I had no explored to Oasis other than a few radio hits and hearing they are insufferable assholes. The hits are amazing and the rest of the album is a mix of indie rock and pop.
3.5 rounded up
A Wonderwallt leszámítva mindegyik szám tetszett – attól még nem lesz kedvenc, mondjuk, mert a mindennapjaimba továbbra sem implementálnám.
Pretty good 90s rock album. Good for casual listening but also could dive into lyrics.
Good album, important milestone in britpop
Britpop which for me is the Definition of alternative Rock, e.g. the well known song Wonderwall. Got stuck here for a week relistening a couple of times always omitting the rating.
now i understand why the brazilian milleniums sacrificed twitter for the oasis comeback
No amount of mediocre Wonderwall covers by "guy who picks up an acoustic guitar at a party™" can downplay how solid this album is. Banger after banger, yes even Wonderwall, especially Wonderwall. Shame they made absolute sloppa after this.
Overplayed but genuinely very good album. 4.5
Some iconic 90s song but nothing so original. I’d give it 3 1/2 stars but the system does r work that way.
Honestly a very fun album to listen to. Cannot deny it's influence and importance in pop culture. It's definitely more than just Wonderwall.
82% Fav: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova Least: N/A Must-Hear? Sure
Solid
Nice!
Excellent
Q - why does liam gallagher always order the soup? A - YOU GET A ROLL WITH IT
This is an easy 4 for me. Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Cast No Shadow are all great songs. The rest of the album is solid and keeps up the momentum, but aren't as powerful.
Fun album with lots of iconic songs.
Reminded me of the Beatles which made it hard to enjoy because i had to force myself out of, but there were a lot of really good songs. Morning Glory was by far my favorite.
I can see the Beatles influence and why people would say they were going to be the "Next Beatles", but they don't quite reach that level. Good album though.
Great album. Songwriting is A1 and I love Liam gallagher’s voice. Every song should be a minute shorter tho and the production is super watered down
My CD sounds really bad :’( I’m scared that this means bad things for all my CDs. This album though takes some time to get going. Then it’s the shit.
This was my first time listening to a whole album from Oasis, and I have to say, GOD DAMN, IT'S LONG (pause). But honestly, it’s a bit too long. I really enjoyed a lot of the tracks—they’re iconic in British rock and you still hear them everywhere. However, I think if the third CD wasn't part of the album, this would have been a solid 5/5.
Not the best Oasis album, but still a banger. 4.5/5
Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova and Don’t look Back in Anger are all epic!!!! A lot of the rest feels a bit cheesy.
Honestly pretty good. Has held up.
An good album from Oasis. Like the classic hits from it but also Hey Now! and Champagne Supernova.
A classic
After hearing some bad albums that claimed to be "the answer to Brit Pop", it's refreshing to hear what none of them could recreate
Can't go wrong
Undeniable impact - this was everywhere when I was about six - and easily their best album for me. Hard to not get a bit fed up of some of these, and actually prefer the second half now, but very strong throughout. Only problem is my tastes have probably moved on now.
The last Oasis album. Say what you will about the battle of birtpop, but Oasis had an album of damn fine songs that ripped off the Beatles extremely well. On top of that, they made one of the finest album closers of all time that I am certainly not biased about because I listened to it a lot after my first big breakup.
The lyrics are the usual Oasis bollocks but some cracking tunes, soundtrack to the mid-nineties in the UK
7,9! Het is makkelijk haten, but what’s not to like
plenty enjoyable! anyway,
Oasis copies are probably overrepresented on this list, but won't penalize Oasis for doing it the best
4/5, nie tylko wonderwall był wunderbar
Good but not great
This was a great album. Oasis really captured something special in their sound and it has stood the test of time thus far. This deserves to be a top album on our list so far. With that in mind, this album is not better than at least one of the albums that didn’t get the elusive unanimous 5. As a result, I cannot in good conscience give this a 5. The search continues…
Today's listen was just as good as it was the first time I heard it all the way through back in early 1996. These guys were EVERYWHERE when this album first dropped, and you couldn't go anywhere without hearing "Wonderwall" at least once in the bar I was at. Liam Gallagher's nasally vocals are a little more bothersome to me now than they were when Oasis first hit the scene. Noel Gallagher is clearly the better singer and songwriter, but he's British ugly, so you now know why Liam became the front man of the band. "Don't Look Back in Anger" is still the underrated classic single from this album.
Really good album! I was more into Blur at the time, but I think this stands the test if time perhaps a little more
Even excluding Wonderwall this is really good
got some proper bangers
Dejligt album jeg har hørt en hel del igennem tiden - 90'er engelsk rock - what's not to like? :) "Wonderwall" er nok stadig min favorit - det er et fantastisk nummer hvor alle instrumenter slår tydeligt igennem på skift. På anden pladsen kommer klart "Don't Look Back In Anger". "Cast No Shadow" er også altid rart at lytte til.
Dette album er ret definerende for min tid i den sidste del af folkeskolen. Lyden er den samme gennem hele albummet - men det fungerer for mig, selvom det bliver lidt kedeligt i længden. Giver albummet 4 for at bringe gode minder frem, og fordi jeg kan skråle med hele vejen igennem.
Call me basic, but even if pretty overplayed 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back In Anger' are just great sing-along hits and always evokes feelings of cozy group events in me. And serve as a strong 1-2 punch at the start of the album just in case you forgot who you were dealing with. It's definitely a more commercial sound than what was probably appreciated at the time, but knowing what we know about the success of this album I think it's hard to say that Oasis didn't pretty much nail a popular sound on here. I have vivid memories of playing Gran Turismo 3 on my Playstation 2 while listening to 'Wonderwall' and Blur's 'Song 2' from the same era on repeat as a child. Guess I was bit of a Britpop fan back then even if I didn't know what Britpop was. Standouts: Don't Look Back In Anger She's Electric Champagne Supernova "Anyway here's Wonderwall"/5 (4/5)
started kind of boring but the middle was very enjoyable. not the most unique music but it fits its niche very well.
Bratty, noisy and swaggering with arrogance, the lyrics aren't lofty, but they -are- effective. The band commits musically, and everything feels part of a whole, albeit with subtle variations along the way. Every second song is a belter and/or classic; some have aged better than others. Not my favourite album, but you have to appreciate it for what it is.
Well, probably a 4.8 but not good enough for a 5.
All the classics in one spot. So accessible
pretty great, some songs that we nowadays make fun of like Wonderwall but it is amazing that it's not the only song on the album that's good.
More fun than I remember ! Solid anthemic elements with garage simplicity make this enjoyable for most everyone.
Banger
Tættere på en 5’er end en 3’er, satme nogle bangers på den her selvom Oasis overhovedet ikke er for mig og jeg ærlig talt synes hans stemme er træls
Day 35 of listening to 1001 albums, one day at a time. Morning Glory is a great album with some good songs. I think it always be known for being the album that help catapult britpop and indie rock in a new light. While the album itself doesn’t have much to say the legacy it left will forever outweigh that.
I could happily live the rest of my life without hearing Don’t Look Back in Anger and especially Wonderwall ever again. Other than those two huge singles, there’s not too much to write home about on Morning Glory. It doesn’t feel as impactful as Definitely Maybe and the opener is quite forgettable. Roll With It and She’s Electric are two other huge songs and they’re catchy as hell, but they feature some of Gallagher’s most annoying vocals and cringy lyrics respectively. The other songs aren’t especially noteworthy, often suffering from being decent 3-minute tracks that are stretched out to 5 minutes and just become boring after a while. It’s still a decent album and, while they’re definitely overplayed, Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back are both great so this is quite solidly a 3/5 Oh wait a second, it ends with Champagne Supernova?
I don't love how Oasis is so full of themselves. But the album is pretty good.
Pretty Good. Some notable songs, some not so much. 3.5
Childhood nostalgia. Reminded me of a 90's beatles (probably cause british)
8 / 10 Uno de los mejores albums del Brit-pop de los 90. Tiene pelotazos como Wonderwall que son un 10.
Yep, pretty good. Standouts include Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Morning Glory, and Champagne Supernova.
mér fannst þetta alltaf frekar púkalegt band en mér til undrunar fílaði ég þetta. sér í lagi slagarana. gef þessu 4 í forundran.
p770. 1995. 4 stars. THE sound of Britain in the early 90s, and a decent Beatles clone to counter Blur's Kinks imitation. Some great songs here, fabulous production, and Liam Gallagher sings like a bastard. Point deducted for suspect lyrics, filler ("The Swamp Song"), and the obvious thefts from Slade, Gary Glitter and T.Rex.
Good
if you take out wonderwall it ironically becomes a better album to listen to
I think I disliked the hype surrounding that record so much when it came out that I refused to really listen to it. All the talk about the new Beatles, the drama with the other bands of the time, added to the fact that the music did not seem all that original, completely turned me off. But all these years later, it really stands the test of time. The songs feel honest and there is a sense of energy and life to them. It is good rock'n'roll, makes its point and leaves it there. I enjoyed it a lot.
From the very first notes it’s clear this is Richer (“Wonderwall”), more expansive (“Don’t Look Back”) and more fully realized than Def Maybe, with more force and drive and considerably sharper teeth (“Morning Glory”). Looser (“She’s Electric”) and more confident (“Some Might Say” among other tunes) and ambitious (“Champagne Supernova”) – a band truly hitting its stride. Looking back from three full decades, it’s perfectly clear how Oasis owned a certain moment, ushered in a distinct era and far excelled Blur (not saying much) in that rather silly argument of the day. But it’s just as obvious that there’s a flash-in-the-pan vibe here; they were great for one record (this one) or maybe 1.5. They were timely in the right time/right place and the audience/market were ready, a perfect updating of British rock star tropes at a time they needed updating. It would have been necessary, perhaps, for someone to invent Oasis if they hadn’t come along on their own.
Back in the mid 90’s my brother in-law recommended this album to me thinking I would dig it. I did, just not enough. The Beatle wannabes had something, just not enough of it. After a fresh listen & knowing all about the Gallagher bros fussing & fighting, I like this album a bit more than I did way back when.
Classic. Songwriting is no joke. Brothers brothering
I’ve heard it a million times
Solid album
Roll With It // Wonderwall // Don’t Look Back In Anger // Some Might Say // Morning Glory //
I always liked The Verve more but you can't deny that oasis were musically better than most gave them credit for. Don't look back in anger and the overplayed wonderwall are actually great and catchy songs. So is the rest. In the end, I'd always prefer something more versatile.
Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory is a fun-packed album. They decided to drop the best song first, with Hello. The production just sounds so phenomenal on this song, and the chorus is exhilarating . Nobody ever seems to remember just has that polished sound to it. I think it’s also the guitar that does it for me. Beyond the intro track, I like Roll with It and Morning Glory, the latter having may similar qualities to Hello. Certainly a great introduction to Britpop. All in all, (What's The Story) Morning Glory is a good album. Best Song: Hello Worst Song: Don't Look Back In Anger
It's a happy music with good positive vibes. Very long album 3cds! I love acoustic guitars and vocals
Britpop is just shoegaze without reverb
I had a bit of a sigh of dread when I got this, but I did have a little sing to the ones everyone knows! even after hearing every American play them at UK festivals I've publicly renounced them ig lol. But there must be some associations there because it rained all day and yet it feels quite sunny relaxing to this alone in the evening. That said, the most interesting songs were the first two (or four, if you were hearing the famous ones for the first time). She's Electric sounded a bit like they just gave up and got out the rhyming dictionary. The title track was good but droned into the same by the end. Mostly a vibey album for me
This album is the King of the 90s Post-grunge era. An absolute classic
Obviously knew the hits from this album but had never listened to the whole thing (blaming it on the fact that it came out when my first kid was in diapers). Was surprised how much I enjoyed the rest of it...would definitely listen to it again. Learned a lot about the sibling feud too (https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/liam-gallagher-vs-noel-gallagher-oasis-brothers-beef-history-explained-206050/) 4 stars
Great album! I never heard it before. I've heard Wonderwall of course, but it didn't do much for me and I never gave the rest of the album a chance. The rest of the album is really solid.
Oasis is a top 10 britpop band all time for sure, and their one two punch of 'Definitely Maybe" and this release right here are top entries into the pantheon
Didn't know all Oasis' hit came from this one album. Pretty solid.
It was good. I knew the songs.
Bit long but good
One of their best
Growing up in a firmly Blur supporting household my exposure to Oasis had been limited to their biggest and most overplayed hits like Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger. Despite this I thoroughly enjoyed this album with the standout tracks for me being: Hey Now!, Cast No Shadow, and She’s Electric
I mean... if this album never existed we would've never heard "Wonderwall" so...yeah...
Nice
Nice one.
Liam’s voice is annoying. And I don’t know how it is that I can be aware that Wonderwall is a dirge and still find it amazing. Still, this has some classics of the genre lol
This album has a bunch of jams between Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Some Might Say, Morning Glory, and of course Champagne Supernova. I'm admittedly not a huge Oasis fan but I can't deny their greatest on this album. I also really love Hey Now! I've realized. Some Might Say kinda sounds lazily put together production wise. Idk I usually like some more raw sounds but it hit me wrong. Cast No Shadow is pretty boring but I love that background guitar. Forgot just how much I love Morning Glory. Song fucks. Not much to be said about Champagne Supernova. If you don't like it I feel bad for your ears. Really a shame just how much the Gallagher bros are insufferable pricks.
Had heard most of these before; some parts of this album are amazing, some are mid.
It's got that one song on it
Cuando me jubile pienso comprarme una guitarra y aprender a tocar solo Wonderwall. Por molestar. El disco está bien la verdad.
Solid album with some really great tracks. Once of the first albums I bought many years ago. Still holds up.
Made me want to dance, not a huge fan of the accents
Good album. I enjoyed it.
Thoughts before listening: Probably the biggest alt rock album of the 90s that I just didn't really care about. All the drama around the Gallagher brothers must have turned me off, or maybe Oasis just seemed lame cause I was so into punkier stuff at the time. Whatever it was, I never paid much attention to Oasis. That being said, their hits are undeniably good songs so I'm excited to actually listen all the way through. Review: This is good. "Wonderwall" is an outright all timer of a song, while "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Champagne Supernova" are iconic anthems of their own. 4-stars
Worth a listen to from time to time
4.0 - I knew what I was getting into before I started listening, and this record delivered just that. All of their massive hits are on here -- I still sing along to most of them when they come on the radio. Of those hits, I think "Don't Look Back in Anger" is underrated, relative to "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova." I'd hoped for a surprise or two lurking in the deeper cuts. Instead, this album maintains a straight-ahead-good-lad vibe for its 50-minute duration. I'm A-OK with all of it.
a classic i hadnt heard before - first few songs feel great, but i did find myself getting a bit bored halfway through the album. i'll probably listen to it again, and might start to like it better
I personally have a soft spot for Oasis. Don’t Look Back in Anger is a legitimately great song. Also I’m probably related to them.
Nearly perfect. The lyrics are just stupid enough to dock a point.
Ah the 90s. Blur v oasis. I was actually more of a blur man, however this is still a very good rock and roll album. Some fantastic songs on there
Love it
Oasis, the band everyone loves to hate. I’d only been familiar with their hits from this album. They’re overplayed, but man do they sound good when you’re drunk. The first thing that caught my attention about this album is how shitty the production is. Those loudness wars were beating their ass. Apparently they were focusing more on big hooks on this album and it shows. Every song is so catchy and made for an enjoyable listen.
The singles - Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova - are great tracks and still hold up. Hey Now was very catchy and Swamp Song 1, while short, had some great instrumentals. The rest of the album was enjoyable enough. It’s a 4 for me.
I owned this album, which I can only assume was because of the ubiquitous Wonderwall (and maybe some nudging from Zach). I liked it more, listening now, that I thought I would. Don't Look Back in Anger, Cast No Shadow and Champagne Supernova are beautiful.
Very familiar with this album and I expect to enjoy it from start to finish. Roll With It takes an early lead as "least favorite track". I've always loved the strings in Cast No Shadow and it is my hidden gem of the album. I don't have to say too much about the great tracks so I'll pick on She's Electric as another kinda meh track for me. Overall, super high quality album and I have to nit-pick to get it down to 4 stars.
Fiiiine. Fine. I can’t listen to wonderwall anymore. The rest is nice
Consider my rating an 3.5/5. Actually liked this more than I thought I would. Felt like it wouldn’t really be my thing, but here we are. Pretty cool.
Used to absolutely love this and was fortunate enough to hear it live at knebworth :)
I like it will probably listen again to find more wonderwalls
This Album is a 7/10
Good debut. Nostalgic.
Previše fillera
Definitely their best album. Some of it you had to be there for, but still great to return to.
i know they’re a ridiculous band, but f-it, i’m going 4 stars
Decent - Rather Droning On at Points. 3.5 rounding up to 4
Better than I remembered. “Morning Glory” is the standout to me at the moment. I’m still tired of the singles as if they were flooding the airwaves yesterday.
Oasis' second best album. There's actually a lot of filler in this, listening back again (Hello, Cast No Shadow). The Swamp Song is a stupid idea.
Partly heard before Saved 9/12 Top track: Wonderwall
Top notch. This album takes me back to a very specific time in my life. Champagne Supernova might be better than Wonderwall just saying
This is a really strong album the songs are well crafted and deserving of the accolades that they have received. The album is strong from start to finish, with no real duds. 4.5 stars
Paar echt goede nummers, ook wel wat filler
British rock. I know this album well and like it. Oasis has a big, guitar-driven sound supporting quality tenor vocals. Their songs are not complex or groundbreaking but they are catchy and well-produced. Wonderwall is the big hit here, followed by Champagne Supernova -- Don't Look Back In Anger and the title track are also quality tunes. In their heyday people compared them to the Beatles but the only dimension that even remotely holds up is in records sold.
I don’t look back angrily at this
4.5
Where were you while we were getting high? Rounding this 3.5 up to 4 stars, since these guys care about the whereabouts of their friends not getting high. A Timeline of the Beef Between Oasis' Noel + Liam Gallagher https://loudwire.com/timeline-beef-between-oasis-noel-gallagher-liam-gallagher/
I expected to be annoyed by this album but was pleasantly surprised. Noel’s songwriting was exceptional.
I love this album. I have the whole thing memorized. I was really into Oasis for a bit. It happens.
Perfect sunny road trip album! Rich with nostalgia, this album has a consistent, comforting sound. Some songs are standout, sing along, masterpieces and some fade into the background but it's very listenable and enjoyable the whole way through. Champagne Supernova is a rare example of a song that is overplayed but still takes my breath away when I hear it.
A classic British rock album with songs that have been part of my life for a long time.
imagine le truc a 30 ans
First album where I felt like I knew multiple songs going in. The three classics really hit. I feel like the rest is a bit sup par. Don’t look back in anger hits special cause of the rock band days just nailing the vocals. Hard to give it a 3 with the nostalgia so a 4 it is
First album where I know all the words to at least one song. This was a great album to listen to on the commute. This album is so british it made me want tea. I had forgotten about champagne supernova. Overall a solid album but the 4 stars is mainly for nostalgia. Its such a stereotype but Wonderwall was the first song i learned to play guitar and sign at the same time so thats also a fond memory.
Pretty good album with a couple great songs. Interesting audio references to other bands like the Beatles.
I never understood why "Wonderwall" was the big hit from this album - there are 2 or 3 better
Some just okay but some classics also.
Must have listened to this 1000 times growing up
Classic
Fun album, thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
This is THE Osasis record. I enjoyed this one more than I thought. Bonus points for wonderwall!
Solid 4 stars out of 5
4.5
I don't think I'd ever listened to the b-sides. Really enjoyed them but maybe it's just because the a-sides have been beaten to death on the radio. I didnt love the Quiet Riot cover, nostaligic album though
Very solid album. Good vibes. Fav song Hello and Roll with It
The Oasis phenomenon is one of those things that I think you have to have lived through to totally understand. I was born the year after Be Here Now imploded the band’s critical acclaim proper, but growing up in the UK, the after-burn of their success has been possibly more interesting than their actually successful period. I genuinely don’t think I’ve been to a pub or a karaoke night where the place hasn’t burst into Don’t Look Back In Anger at some point. I’ve genuinely never been at a gig, or passed a busker where I’ve never thought it was hilarious to request Wonderwall at an inopportune moment. I’ve never played a gig where some annoying idiot hasn’t requested Wonderwall at an inopportune moment. You still hear Roll With It, She’s Electric, and Champagne Supernova played on the radio all the time. And in addition to that, both the Gallagher’s projects get a certain amount of radioplay and hype. So, is the album that spawned all of this hype worth it? Yes? Musically, What’s The Story? is quite contradictory, being both a rather bare-bones Rock n Roll effort, and a lush, orchestrated, 60’s tinged Britpop album. And lyrically… well, let’s just say that Noel Gallagher is not the most oblique songwriter. It’s all expressed in such a way that the lyrics seem expressionistic and poetic, but if you try and nail down an exact meaning, it all falls apart for the utter bollocks it is. But, in a way I can defend that. It’s the equivalent to talking to a friend in the pub after a few pints. Everything you end up saying sounds profound, metaphorical. But to the sober eavesdropper, it’s nonsense, loosely connected by a vague theme. If anything, I wonder if this songwriting quirk is the reason why Oasis were seen as having won the Britpop war for popularity, if not the specific battle? Damon Albarn is by far a more precise, intelligent, and funny lyricist. As are Jarvis Cocker and Brett Anderson for what it’s worth. But, Albarn’s intelligence is always on full display. He can never turn it off. And the public… well, the public like Silly Love Songs, which is what Oasis did best. Blur were too smart and refined, Pulp too class-conscious and sexual, Suede too dark and bisexual. That left Oasis as the voice of the supposed everyman. The better-off working class who didn’t feel repressed in the relative stability of the 90’s. The underclass had their voices. For the moderates, Oasis was more than enough. These drunken laddish ramblings spoke to large swathes of Brits. But perhaps I’m being unfair. The Gallaghers were genuinely working class kids made good, achieving their position through hard work. And the music is good, I enjoy it and I am much more a part of Blur’s world than Oasis’. But I enjoy it mostly from afar, for it’s influence that is intrinsically interwoven throughout the fabric of British society. And I think that from afar is the best way to view Oasis, get too close and the shine does seem duller than people remember. Also, I cannot say the name of this album without singing the Balamory theme tune to myself
Bangers wel
Fou album. Que des classiques.
Definitely Oasis‘s best. A laid back Album with some iconic songs that transport me back to summer camp bonfire sing alongs (in a good way).
A classic! Takes me back to, like, middle school.
Do you guys know wonderwall? An album with several classics on it, and rightfully so. I like the sound of the album overall, and there's not really a bad cut on it as far as I'm concerned. Champagne Supernova is a banger ending track. 9/10 Favorite Songs: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Cast No Shadow, Champagne Supernova No least favorites
brilliant
Really solid alternative/indie. Standouts: champagne supernova, don’t look back in anger, wonderwall 4.2*
Wonderwall is great, the rest is okay
An album absolutely full of bangers. The 90's UK music scene had me in neither camp Blur nor Oasis, but looking back now, as my taste and my waist have softened somewhat, I appreciate the songwriting and exuberance of this recording. Not everyone loves this band, but everyone has at some point sung these songs, badly, at the top of their voice, getting all the words wrong, with their arms round their mates shoulders, telling everyone - I fffing love you man. It's science.
Very good album. I used to think Wonderwall was the best track, but to me it’s Don’t Look Back in Anger then Champagne Supernova. Easy 4 stars.
The all-killer-no-filler britpop album. I think maybe I have a special nostalgic place for it in my heart since my older sisters were way into it when it came out.
Anyway, here's Wonderwall.
classic album love it solid 4/5 just not really my style that much anymore
With this album, Oasis created, not one, but several rock anthems. "Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back in Anger", and "Champagne Supernova" are just incredibly well known commercial successes. Although the writing and musicality are not legendary, these songs have been adopted by the public. The simplicity of the choruses have huge appeal to the masses and have led to these songs' longevity.
This album is far far greater than the sum of its parts. I really appreciate the thought that went into song order - upbeat for a few then a nice chill one. Really bears listening straight through. I actually think their slow to mid-tempo songs are better than their fast/loud ones. There is a wall of sound tendency that gets a bit tiresome but just when I feel like I need a break, they deliver. Just a great album overall, even when you set aside the absolute classics. Yes, buy it on vinyl. Solid 4.5
Pretty good music for such a shite taste in football clubs.
Good album. 4/5
Don't know much besides Wonderwall, but I found myself enjoying this album. First song starts off strong with great lyrics and a thumping anthemic background. Second song is good, again good messaging. Wonderwall is obviously Wonderwall, overplayed, but a good song. Don't Look Back in Anger definitely gives a Beatlesesque vibe. Its a chill rock, with a decent amout of rock, distortion, and guitar work. Hey Now almost reminds me of a Doo-Wop song structure, feels old school. As I listen to this I can really hear the impact this this album had to inform things like The Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs, etc. Swamp Song V1 is a quick ZZ Top-like intermission. Couple songs in the end are find, good but not great. Champagne Supernova is a song I didn't know I knew. Great ender. Overall a really solid album front to back, I could definitely revisit this. 4/5 Favorite Songs: Hello, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova Least Favorites:
Il britpop è un po' basic, ma ogni tanto ci sta. 7+/10
Anyway, here's Wonderwall!
I used to think I disliked Oasis because of their style, turns out I just hate Wonderwall, great album 8/10
What’s the story morning glory is an awesome 90’s throwback of what Oasis could have achieved, fest work consistent right and awesome songs, it is a shame that the brothers ended they way they did
a few familiar songs, liked their sound
Champagne supernova slaaaaps
I have a small brain and so I'm a sucker for big songs, and so here I am bringing shame on my family (specifically my older brother). This is how I found out Liam is short for William but I'm not going let that affect my rating. Liam's voice loses it a star, nostalgia gives it a star.
Sick. love oasis had definitely maybe earlier favorite tracks: She's Electric, Hello, Don't Look Back in Anger
It’s surprising how many songs you know here. New age Beatles 4/5
Classic Oasis. Good stuff with several big hits!
Ashley likes it
fauxdiohead
Classic, solid album.
Luscious production
Really struggle with rating this - it's one of the first albums I listened to loads, so I'm kind of numb to it now? I much prefer Noel's voice to Liam's, I tend to prefer the more thoughtful, slower Oasis songs - the B-Side album that came at the same time of this has way more of those on it and it's really good. But there's 3 absolutely iconic, era-defining songs on here. So 4/5 I guess.
This is a super nostalgic album for me, as I'm sure it is with a lot of people. Takes me back to middle school as soon as it starts. I mean Wonderwall, as much of a sort of pop culture joke as it is now, is a fantastic song. I feel like if there was a mix of 20th century music sent into space for posterity, Wonderwall would be one of the first songs added to the list. Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger, and Morning Glory are wonderful as well. And I always liked Roll With It. Is this a 5 star album? I don't know. It depends on your mood I guess. On most days I don't think it would be for me and honestly there are a couple songs I'd probably skip if they came up randomly.
Never explored Oasis beyond their few major US radio hits, but this was a solid album. Little monotonous maybe but I could see leaving it on in the background of a party or whatever.
There’s a reason this made the list. Half the songs are still overplayed today!
decent.
The typical Oasis sound and vocals. I like the track Champagne Supernova best because it is more varied.
obviously as I have got older twangy guitars have gotten harder to listen to continuously, but still enjoyed the big hits.
Great album. Surprised that most of these songs aren't as overplayed as the obvious. Very strong music all throughout, perfect length. Loved it. A genre not easily replicated nowadays. Morning glory in particular and champagne supernova were favourites. Don't look back in anger and wonder wall are renowned for a reason.
Id give it a 7. Not a HUGE fun of oasis but it has a few good songs. Kind of remind me of a British weezer. They all just kind of blend together after a while. Favourite songs are probably don’t look back in anger , cum on the noize, wonderwall and she’s electric.
Oh yes babyyy dit is echt een topper! Veel leuke nummers, echt klassiekers Niet 5 sterren though want het heeft niet echt die wow factor maar het is wel gewoon leuk en goed dus 4 :) Would buy
Fine
The big singles are some of the all time classic British sing alongs. The album filler tracks didn’t quite grab me as much although I did enjoy the opener “hello” very much. Good album and I understand the hype, even if it’s not for me.
Some well-known bangers on here. A few misses, but mostly hits. Good vibe
It's as amazing as I remember it.
Wonderful album, classic - 4/5
90s music isn’t typically my jam, but this was an excellent album!
Pretty good met een paar bangers
it's oasis. very decently good alt rock. wonderwall and champagne supernova are really good though.
The album is about as good as Brit Pop gets (or got). I found myself wanting to skip through only a couple of tracks, but found gems like "She's Electric" and "Morning Glory" and those songs kept me going.
incrível sempre
Heard of this and know many of the songs (Wonderwall, Don’t look back in Anger). Will be a good listen and end up my library. 4/5.
4.5
Great album, chock full of classic Oasis songs. The consecutive trio of Roll with it, Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger is really hard to beat. A couple of the other tracks aren't quite up to that standard, otherwise it would have got 5*
This is Oasis' finest (and, in my opinion, only great) album. It all seemed to come together here. Their sound had developed to its peak and the songs are really good, without being as raw as on the preceding 'Definitely Maybe', which is mainly pub rock and roll. This is Oasis at the (brief) top of their game. They've been dining out on it ever since. Wonderful vocals from Liam, who has such an excellent voice, possibly forgotten amidst the noise of his notoriety as a confrontational celebrity. Some of these songs are quite ballady/poppy and perhaps not ones I'd listen to again and again, and She's Electric is a weak link that sounds like a Poor Man's Blur, but ...Some Might Say and Morning Glory are two of the best rock songs of the '90s, if not ever. Very solid and very worth listening to - maybe with some skips here and there.
4 stars. Wonderwall album
Great album without a doubt! Oasis isn’t necessarily my thing, but I can’t deny that this album is super good.
אחלה של אלבום כבד יותר ממה שחשבתי שיהיה...
i just wanna start this by saying i’m so so sad i didn’t give the clash more, they actually deserved 5 or 4 stars :( anyways, i feel like i’ll like this album too, and i’m just happy to have some good british bands to listen to in a row. i enjoyed it quite a bit and glad i listened to it. champagne supernova is one of my favourite songs of all time.
its good i guess idk
Classic feel good rock
some songs didn’t hit hard but the majority did, brilliant albums and a staple of britpop. Also took my back to my early teen years. Fire
Fav song: don't look back in anger
Liked it a lot. Was impressed with the guitar in it.
Holds up. Rough and sweet in even doses. Dredges some nostalgia for sure.
Siste sangen i albumet er rå
Good stuff. Never owned this album. Doesn't hold nostalgia for me. But a solid album all the way through
For the Cool Britannia give me the spice girls. That’s too harsh. There’s no question Noel Gallagher can write songs. Sure he’d be lost without the Beatles but the songs are good. Even pushing to great. Is there a more blatant example of ‘you really had to see these guys live’ than the strangled croak of Liam? Maybe Anthony Kiedis of the red hot chili peppers Anyway this is a good artefact of an era that came and went. 3.5
I always thought Oasis was a one-hit-wonder, maybe as a side effect of the sheer popularity of Wonderwall, but there's a lot on this album that is just as good, if not better. There's some definite misses, and it hasn't aged particularly well aside from feeling like a bit of a nostalgia pill for the 90s, but overall I enjoyed this album much more than I anticipated. Oasis plays with harmonies a lot, and the slower, less hard songs all have a bit of an earworm tendency. If it were possible here, I'd probably give this one a 4.5. Highlight: Don't Look Back In Anger Lowlight: Hello Surprise Hit: Some Might Say
So, it’s hard to negate the feelings of relistening to an iconically popular album. But, within the context of listening to so many albums each and every day, this is a goddamn masterpiece. Through and through. Several classics supported by should-be-classics.
BANGER
i knew this one was a classic but had only listen to a couple songs on it before from the radio so glad this introduced me to the whole thing. very alternative rock which is the type i like lol. i really enjoyed it though it’s got a chill vibe that i like. 7/10
Superb album, the essence of being young in the 90s.
liked hello liked the other ones too very very catchy hooks very Beatles guilty pleasure album classic songs for a reason
Jako najs.
I don't even need to listen to this one again. I would give it five stars The reason that I'm not giving it five stars is, one time when I was in high school there was a talent show. The only thing that I had a reasonable grasp of on the guitar was Wonderwall. Of course, I decided to play Wonderwall. It was the most appalling shit I have ever had to be a part of. Why I decided to even enter is a mystery. Fuck you Noel Gallagher. It's your fault I got bullied.
Wonderwall
But seriously, fuck the gallagher brothers
Classic, heard it a bunch in my youth.
A bunch of really solid stuff. I've heard it before but found some new songs I liked on it.
Nooit van gehoord, verrassend! Die wonderwall lijkt me wel leuk om op gitaar te leren!
I always avoided listening to Oasis because they were so much overplayed everywhere in the 90's that I was sick of them before even hearing one of their albums. But now's the time and I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised! The songs are simple and catchy, but the band's ambition covers that simplicity by adding arrangements and an energy that can only come from a young band on the verge of conquering the world.
A strong classic from the britpop era. If the band would have been able to do a complete album in the vibe of Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory and Roll With It or even Wonderwall, which is a powerful hit that we just can't hear anymore... this album would have been a 5 stars.
This was a pretty great album that’s been a little marred by how overplayed songs like wonderwall have become. Loved the last track
better than I remembered, solid effort overall and has aged well
The magpie is a resourceful bird. Yes, it might have a moral issue around theft but it’s a survivor and adaptable to carve out the existence it wants. Morning Glory isn’t as exciting musically as the debut Definitely Maybe. It also hasn’t the raw hooliganism. But it’s got two major enhancements over the forerunner. Firstly, Noel Gallagher has developed his magpie-like songwriting (aka plagiarism) and it’s got hits. Fucking loads of them. It’s a cheeky start with a blatant theft from The Glitter Band before the sub par Roll With It (which deservedly came 2nd to Blur’s Country House in the UK’s frankly stupid media circus of Britpop.) But then we go up a gear. “Overplayed” can often simply mean brilliant. Which is the case with Wonderwall. Then the raucous “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” Anthem Iv doesn’t do this one/two justice. Interestingly, during this period the Oasis b-sides were probably better than some of the tracks on side 2. Though the record does return to form with Cast No Shadow, the title track and Chempagne Supanova. This album nearly broke Oasis in America. The music was good enough but the working class thuggery - several steps up from the Beatles and the Stones - didn’t translate and global domination was elusive. Still, an important record and still hugely enjoyable.
Top: Don't Look Back In Anger.
I liked this more than I thought I would. Super nicely produced, incredibly listenable. Would definitely pick it up again!
Pretty solid album. I enjoy Brit Pop. If you trimmed three songs off this album it would be better for me. As is it's still worthy of the praise it gets.
Highly energetic and fun, but one too many "wooohs"
Familar and comfortable, the vocals get a bit annoying and there is a twang to the music that brings me out of my slightly distracted trip down memory lane, but for all that. it's a nice piece of music that I would listen to in a car at 8pm at night or expect to hear getting into a restaurant that is getting into its groove. Its also good around the garden. I enjoyed weeding to this. So, I think 4 stars.
Classic
Great album!
Never listened to this album back in the day. Surprised how good it was
Good album. I liked it.
Didn't expect to like this. I always felt Oasis was being shoved down our throats in the 90s (kinda like Beyonce in the 00s). I will definitely listen to this one again. Favorite: title track.
Hello - 8/10 Roll With It - 8.5/10 Wonderwall - 10/10 Don’t Look Back in Anger - 9/10 Hey Now - 8.5/10 Swamp Song (version 1) - 7/10 Some Might Say - 8/10 Cast No Shadow - 8.5/10 She’s Electric - 8/10 Morning Glory - 9/10 Swamp Song(version 2) - 7.5/10 Champagne Supernova - 10/10 TOTAL - 102/120
Great background music!
Pretty good
Classic 90s album. All the hits
Musically good, but hard to separate from who's playing it.
Still a very good album! Some solid hits.
I have to admit that when this album came out in 1995, I didn't like it much. The hits Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger were relentlessly played on alternative music radio, to the point that I was sick of them pretty quick. Brit pop in general, and Oasis specifically sounded whiny and irritating, like a younger sibling causing a fuss in a store. This was the band that the cool kids just wanted to get away from. Time, however, has been kind to (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. It stands up well as examples of great songwriting. Craftsmanship even. Without the constant deluge of the hit songs, the album's production shines, and it is easier to see it as a whole. It is a fine album, full of great pop hooks and singalong songs. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is also iconically "90s".
pretty good
It was nice, some nostalgic classics in there. Not obsessed with Oasis but they're alright and I do find myself really feeling some of the songs sometimes.
It can be hard to separate all the jokes, celebrity-ness and general impression of Oasis from their music I feel. I'm thinking about the likes of Wonderwall now getting a bad rap because nob heads on guitars played it too much. But listening back to this MAN I loved it. Its just really really good song after song. They were bloody hits for a reason werent' they. Really enjoyed listening to the album in isolation.
Well it's a banger that's for sure. It does sound weirdly old and a lot of tracks have been so overplayed in life that it's hard to enjoy them. But putting that aside as much as possible, listening to this the first time not knowing the songs as all, it will have been amazing.
My mum had this album on cassette and it was in the car for nearly a year. 1 year of driving around listening to this.
Classic.
Heard before, but I liked it a lot more than I remember. (Think I'm preferring Blur so far, but keeping an open mind).
Great album, one or two songs are skips for me. But a lot of classics and a few songs I'll be listening to again later
Have already heard a few of the tracks on this album. Liking it the more I listen. Overall solid album.
Great album but I still don't understand how anyone thinks they were (or are) better than Blur
Already familiar, very enjoyable. Multiple hits and non-hits are also good.
Heavier than expected
Bangerz
I've always felt Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova were just fine, so never paid much attention to Oasis. first time giving one of their albums a full listen, not bad
Album that made the genre of Britpop great. Has some of oasis' best (and most popular) Songs. Noel Gallagher is an amazing song writer.
Man asmeniškai prastestis albumas nei Definetely Maybe, bet iš čia dauguma jų klasikų, o ir keleta ne tiek girdėtų dainų paliko įspūdį. 4/5
Enjoyed this a bit more than Definitely, Maybe overall. Some great songs on here, Wonderwall not being one of them. Fav track: Don't Look Back in Anger Worst track: Wonderwall
pretty good in mi opinion
Solid mid-90s British alternative rock. Wonderwall, Some Might Say, Don’t Look Back in Anger, She’s Electric, Champagne Supernova all good to great
Yeah, good album - remember it well from the 90’s!
All the best songs are the ones that weren't played on the radio. Great sound and produced very well. Almost to the point where it feels a little more overproduced.
Apparently I'm an Oasis fan. Who knew.
Didn’t pay much attention to the 90s British Invasion, but of course I knew a bunch of these songs. Some solid 90s rock with a bit of Beatles gravy.
Album #14 As a young teenager who liked to dislike popular things, Oasis was not my jam. I liked Champagne Supernova, but that was it. Wonderwall? No thank you - especially when I got to college and every dude with a cheap acoustic guitar would try impress girls with the song. I finally gave this album (and Definitely Maybe) a chance in my early 20s and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. But I still largely ignored the band afterwards. 3 weeks ago, I asked an older friend what they thought of Oasis and they said that they bet they would like them if they gave them a chance. I'd been on a several month journey to listen to more music and I wrote down Oasis as a band to check out. Then I began this project, and two weeks later I got this album. It was simply very enjoyable pop-rock from start to finish. A solid outing, and while it didn't blow me away, I was surprised at how quickly the 50 minutes went by. Solid 4*
Honestly, I've never been a fan or follower of Oasis, always thought they were overrated and over-hyped. That being said, the music speaks for itself and this might be as good as it gets, as far as Brit-Pop in the 90's. It's hard to deny it's influence and impact on pop-rock and the hits definitely lifted the band to the mass mainstream. You can love or hate the band, but at least on (What's The Story) Morning Glory, the music is pretty darn listenable.
I'm tempted to rate this one without even listening. I have listened to it hundreds of times as a teenager. That being said, I'm giving it another go right now. It's bringing serious waves of nostalgia and is every bit as good as I remember.
The second instalment of the Oasis story and the one that entered them onto the global stage. Lacks the exciting rawness of Definitely Maybe but maybe a few more ‘original’ tunes. Arguably the trio of songs at the back end are their strongest. 7/10
So hard to put this album down to a numerical rating. It's very good, but it's oasis. Negatives... Roll With It and Hey Now aren't as strong as the rest of the album. Wonderwall is kind of an issue, it's clearly a good song to some extent, but it's so overplayed that hearing it today was a bit like nails on a chalkboard. Don't Look Back in Anger doesn't have the same issue, it sounds as good as it ever did. The positives are clear, any song on this album could be a single. Cast No Shadow and Champaign Supernova are the standouts on the album. I'm gonna go 4, but it's a high 4
Wonderall is an amazing song and very much an album maker. The album also has a few other goodies like Champagne Supernova. They are (were?) very overplayed but I can't hold this against them. This is prob the best album to come out of Britpop.
Genres: Rock, Britpop Formed: Manchester, England in 1991 Run time: 12 songs, 50 min, 10 sec The second studio album by the English rock band. Spotify: Least popular song: >8.7M Most popular song: >1.7B plays Most artists don’t achieve the listening figures of the least played song on this album. To say Oasis is popular would be a gross understatement. “Wonderwall” has billions of plays on Spotify. I’m not into Britpop, but there’s no denying this is a fantastic album. More than half the tracks are known to me and I’m not an Oasis fan. Listen Again?: No My Rating: ****
Ignoring how overplayed, no doubting its a great album
In 2023 a 2 star but in 1996 it'd break Meltzers scale
Let's ignore the Swamp Songs. Of the other 10, they were so close to perfection but not quite there. Roll with it and Don't look back in anger are the biggest disappointments to me, what sound like on first to be class tracks quickly fall away on subsequent listens. Almost like Noel was trying too hard to write a catchy Oasis song. She's electric, much like Digsys Dinner before it, tried to provide a comic relief that was neither wanted or needed. The rest are all pretty stellar, finishing off with possibly one of their greatest songs. Solid 4-4.5* album. Have no regrets rinsing it to pieces in the mid-90s such that I can barely listen to it anymore. What an album it was at the time.
Hello: 6.5/10 kind of bland but good tune Roll with it: 5.5/10 fun and good instrumentals still quite bland Wonderwall: 8/10 classic good listen Don't look back in anger 8.5/10 another classic a lot more character than the others so far, propper banger. Hey now: 7/10 tears for fears vibes. The swamp song: 6.5/10 catchy Some might say: 6.5/10 overall quite mid some good parts though. Cast no shadow: 8/10 melody is great and lyrics are great overall pretty good song. She's electric 9/10 banger mad catchy Morning glory:6/10 instrumentals bang kind of mid Swamp song version 2: 3/10 shit as song great setup for the goat. Champagne supernova: 9.5/10 7/10 album some good listens.
Iconic songs all around. A light 4 I think.
should be a 3.5 it is a good album but not really my music and i think oasis is overrated to me
Oasis was never my thing, and I never really got the arguments between its leaders, but: This album hasn't dated too badly, and Wonderwall is still a song that grips me throughout. Most of the other songs are good, too!
English being a second langauge to me, some of its subtleties may go over my head once in a while, or get me confused. A very good example of this is the title of the Oasis *magnum opus*: *(What's The Story) Morning Glory?*, whose exact meaning has eluded me for decades now... Does that title refer to... a morning erection? I know the Gallagher brothers are boneheads about certain things in life. But does that mean they should talk about their boners? As you can probably understand by now, I have absolutely zero interesting take to add about this LP. It's a milestone for Britpop, and so for British rock in general. And this, in spite of a bunch of fillers and questionable production values in the record. The rest of what's good is too damn iconic to be forgotten anyway. If really you insisted and asked me to say a few more words about this album, I could just talk about my 17-year-old stepson. He's into all sorts of music for people his age, but somehow, I don't know why, he fell in love with those songs, among other Oasis "classics". And it was not because of me. I have the CD at home, but it's not as if I played it that much. No, it was through Spotify, and this stepson of mine would never forgive me if I excluded Oasis from a list like this one. If only because of "Wonderwall". Even though, as it's the case for the title of this LP, no one's sure what a "wonderwall" really is all these years after. If we ever *did* know. at some point... Number of albums left to review: 476 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 249 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 118 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 155
I did not expect to like this album as much as I did. There are so many hits. I love Champagne Supernova and Don't Look Back in Anger. Yeah Wonderwall is overplayed but this album is great.
Reminds me of my younger years. Really enjoyed. 4/5
Plays like a greatest hits album. Docked a star for including tracks like Hey Now and the random Swamp Song excerpts over Acquiesce, The Masterplan, Rockin' Chair, etc.
I was more blur than oasis. With benefit of time, not sure why
Big ups to Guitar Hero World Tour for introducing me to the Gallaghers' best album by a mile, where raw instrumentals meeting (mostly) inspired wordplay create what is perhaps the only good Brit rock/Britpop album in existence. While the LP definitely suffers from some guilty indulgences in smarmy ballads on the back end, most everything else is perfection. Liam's defiant whine over pounding, overdriven guitars is an unexpectedly powerful combination, and one that pushes several tracks into transcendency ('Some Might Say' is one of my fave tracks of all time for how unbound and free it feels). 'Wonderwall' may get all the credit, but this album is stacked with tracks that (again, mostly) defy the trends of the time to create something perfectly nostalgic but ageless at the same time.
4.25
At one point in my life this was my favorite album. I never listen to it anymore. I don't need to -- I've heard it so many times before, and I've moved on, music has moved on. Still, I enjoyed listening to it again. Forget "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova"; as I've commented about other cultural phenomenon songs, they are omnipresent and impossible to have any perspective on. "Hello," "Roll With It," "She's Electric," "Some Might Say," and "Cast No Shadow" are all really good songs. The whole album is incredibly well-produced.
