Foster was right. Bangers.
A classic Coldplay album. The Scientist & Clocks are all time bangers
I never listened to a full Coldplay album in full until now- it was pretty good! I am unlearning the Coldplay hate that 2000s society instructed me. The album art is good too, it is like a digital version of fragmented Greco-Roman statues.
While I love this album dearly, I really really dislike "Clocks." It's not a bad song, it was just played every hour on 106.3 growing up, and I got so so so tired of hearing it. There are some unequivocal 10/10 songs on this album for me, though: "Daylight" is such a banger, "Green Eyes" was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar, "Warning Sign" makes me cry every time I hear it. The title track is absolutely haunting (the way Chris says "honey" in the song is very memey). What this album does really fantastically, too, is its pacing and sequencing, something that is certainly a lost art in the streaming era. The band really knows their beats, starting with an explosion with "Politik," dragging the listener up and down between moods to the thematic and sonic climax of the album with "Warning Sign," "A Whisper," and "A Rush of Blood." "Amsterdam," to me, is the song that fades to black and soundtracks the credits rolling. This is our second and last Coldplay album on the list and I'm bored so here is my ranking of each Coldplay album: 1. Viva La Vida 1.5 Prospekt's March 2. Parachutes 3. A Rush of Blood to the Head 4. Mylo Xyloto 5. Ghost Stories 6. Everyday Life 7. X&Y 8. Music of the Spheres 9. A Head Full of Dreams 10. Moon Music
Here I am again giving Coldplay high marks after being reluctant to give this one a listen. The first half of this album is remarkable: acoustic anthems to rival Wonderwall, the iconic melody of Clocks, and some surprising eastern-sounding vibes on Daylight. I think the brilliance of these Coldplay albums is that they figured out the formula for pop that’s both accessible and interesting. For me, they fuse a dash of the inventive songwriting and indie rock sound of Radiohead with the jangly, emotionally-powered pop sensibilities of U2 — two bands I really like.
Real pretty, real somber. Didn't care for all of it but its peaks are wayyy up there.
чудесный рифф in my place, мрачно-мелодичный god put a smile upon your face, мегахитовый clocks и шедевральный the scientist, наверно одна из моих любимых песен 00х.
01/07/2026 I hate Coldplay. I think they are stupidly boring. I have no idea how I have ended up here with 4 stars, but they just deserve it for this. Spotify listeners: 93.1 million
I know this album well, but not as well as I thought. It's good stuff. Floaty. Dreamy. A bit slower than I remember.
I have a soft spot for Coldplay, touches my emo alt heart
Effective and catchy, it got so much play that it’s hard to judge 3.7
I love this album! I was a big fan of the first two Coldplay records. This came out at a time when everyone was talking about Radiohead, and I think on this one they really tried to chase that Radiohead sound, which is always a good thing.
Genuinely hard one to call. There is so much classic work on there, and the pallette is distinctive. But is there just an X factor shy? Are Daylight and Green Eyes a bit too much of a drag?
what pop should be
Parachutes was definitely a Radiohead rip-off through and through, but A Rush of Blood to the Head is something else where it feels more inspired by its' predecessor instead of blatantly copying and with that something truly great is created. The songwriting on this album is the true star of the show as Coldplay is able to more thoroughly think out what they want to convey without relying so heavily on instrumentals. The Scientist, Politik, Clocks, Green Eyes, and Amsterdam are all incredible pieces of a more moody Art Rock sound also being able to somehow be something that can be played on radios and absolutely dominate the airwaves of that time to the point where they became an international sensation. I wouldn't ever said Radiohead went Pop even with Creep and any of their music, even with their more critically and commercially acclaimed albums like OK Computer, Pablo Honey, and In Rainbows, Coldplay managed to find that middle point and ride that high to stardom. Even if Coldplay is now a husk of the band they used to be in the early 2000s, A Rush of Blood to the Head is still an impressive feat nonetheless.
Pre Listen: Coldplay. I think this is arguably the most "mainstream" album I've gotten yet. Coldplay's music has been a staple of every alt-rock, indie-rock, hell any modern rock adjacent playlist and radio station since at least 2005. That being said, I could only really name a handful of their songs off the top of my head. Measured expectations going in. Notable Tracks: The Scientist - First song I recognized on this album. It's alright. Clocks - First song I INSTANTLY recognized on here. I actually like this song. Cool. Daylight - Probably my favorite song on the album. The melody between vocals is just so...nice. Green Eyes - Probably my least favorite song on the album. It's just kind of boring. Many acoustic songs work well to contrast more complicated songs on the rest of the album. This one's just boring, same chords throughout, bored-sounding vocals. Post Listen: It was good. I'm classifying this, and perhaps future albums under "Millennial Rock". Sometimes it's really boring, sometimes it's pretty neat, it's never really bad per say. It's characterized by smoother, low tempo beats, lots of ooo-ing and aaa-ing, and the occasional piano or other classic-adjacent instrument. Lots of talk of feelings and other abstract concepts through metaphors or storytelling. This album feels foundational for a lot of Millennial Rock. The key components are done well. 4/5.
always liked coldplay and this album cements my enjoyment for what they have done
I wanted to shit on this because of what Coldplay turned into but reflecting on who they were when this was realized, it still holds up. It feels reflective, personal, and intentional. Not selling me on some global message or some characterized version of themselves.
Surprisingly good, Chill music. Worth another listen
I enjoy the music, but I'm not sure if it's for me.
didn't realize how many songs i already knew here. such a great nostalgic album. favourite song: warning sign
4-/5 surpris
Another band that gets a lot of hate. This is a great album but tails off in the second half.
POLITIK IS SO BEAUTIFUL. one of the best albums with a banger opening track, and the vocals are hauntingly beautiful in each and every song. s/o chris martin, how is this album 15 years old?
I think this might be the first time I've rated an album in just under 2 months so to get back on it I wanted to pick something that I knew would be easy listening and well, this delivered.
These guys are the best at basic pop
Si me gustó, ya era parte de mi
Never listened to an entire Coldplsy album!
Not a die hard fan but theres some well written and catchy songs on this. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.
A good album, I liked The Scientist, Clocks and A Rush of Blood to rhe Head the most.
2019 all over again :)
People hate on Coldplay too much. So many brilliant songs on here, and the closer Amsterdam is highly underrated
Made my daughter dance and sing along, automatic high grades. Also a classic coldplay album with a great soundtrack and awesome lyrics.
I definitely agree with a lot of the criticisms around Coldplay, and I think a lot of the claims about how basic/boring a lot of their music is really gets exemplified on a good portion of the latter half of this album. That being said, the first half of this album is so strong, that I still feel like I can't rate this lower than a 4, even if I'm not particularly a fan of the band overall.
3.5/5
es un 4 llegando a un 5. Muy buen album aunque coldplay tiene mejores
Genuinely really liked this album. Beautiful album. I didnt realize Coldplay has been around so long. The Scientist will always be a favorite, The Warning was a new favorite.
So good - one of my faves!
very good, how did they fall of so hard they gen sound like a completely different band
i do just have a soft spot for coldplay ngl x
Wow, green eyes. Four.
Best Coldplay album
I really like the first two Coldplay albums. This was nice to revisit. Say what you want about the band, but they did not shy away from crafting longer songs when they suited it. Honestly an all-shoegaze cover album of this would whip ass. Original idea, DNS.
Have I been wrong about Coldplay this whole time? That's the question that I was asking myself while listening to this album. The songwriting is there, the instrumentation is lush when it needs to be and pulled back when it needs to be, and Chris Martin sounds great on these songs. What's not to like?
Dope
There's a lot of good songwriting here. Politik is a strange song, a pounding repetitive rhythm through 2/3s of it that then transforms into a pretty Chris Martin Coldplay tune. I've always been a sucker for the shoegaze shimmery stuff when it's loud enough. Most of the time it's loud enough. 4/5. I'd put it on a list for a visitor from space who wants to understand how Coldplay got big, otherwise no.
Great album
It's all right. Seems a bit dated if you know what I mean.
daylight omg i luv
Strangely, I have never listened to Coldplay, indeed everyone was been telling that it is the best group alive. But after listening to this album, I really liked it a lot. Not every song, but the Politik is my favourite
Not quite parrachutes, but still an awesome album with so many great songs.
Diet Radiohead. Probably their best album.
Such a beautiful album. Why did I wait this long to hear it🥹
Nostalgic listen. This is peak Coldplay. Amsterdam is an absolute stunner. The other singles are played a ton to this day for a reason. The non-singles in the album don't shine through as much.
Excellent album with one of my favorite songs from Coldplay.
Good album. Their first is better and should have been on this list instead.
Usually not my type of music, but it's pretty good.
Muito bom
Anthems
Good but not Coldplay’s best. The Scientist and Clocks are best
Before Coldplay became kind of a joke, they released a couple albums that got them there. Some incredible music. Saw this tour in a small venue and the music packed a punch. I know they are U2 level of grandiosity now, but at one time, this album was fresh and new. It was great.
I don't think I really listened to this since it came out in the early 2000s. In the years that passed, I never considered myself much of a Coldplay enthusiast and therefore no need to revisit it. It's better than I remember. It's not for everyone, I totally understand the "Coldplay are bland" jibes and how insufferable Chris Martin became, but this is still a very enjoyable and well written album. Good, simple, thoughtful, minimalistic and well-crafted songs in my view. I'm a big fan of the title track, I forgot how great that is. Never thought I would give it a 4 but here we are. Miles better that I remember.
I don’t know if nostalgia makes me love this album more than I should but either way I think it has some of Coldplay’s best songs.
Great memories from this album growing up in Laurel Drive, most of the songs on a constant loop on the piano by my sister, I’m lifting from a 3.5 to a 4
Full of Coldplay classics. They're a bit of a meme, but this is a really strong album.
Another great Coldplay record. Favourite Track(s): God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, A Rush of Blood to the Head Least Favourite Track(s): Warning Signs
Sounds like sad Imagine Dragons but its way better than Imagine Dragons
You can say a lot of things about cold play but you can’t say Chris Martin doesn’t have a great voice. This albums just pretty solid 2 major hits and there wasn’t an unpleasant song on the album. Nothing too spectacular or innovative but still an excellent album.
Gay Coldplay be like… cocks
Surprised - i guess early coldplay is great
Coldplay obviously gwt a lot of shit for being wet and generally a bit lame. But it doesnt stop them from being a good band, and having written good music. This is a great album, not their best, but definitely one worth note and worth listening to. Great well crafted songs with lyrics that stay with you. 4.5/5.0 Best Song: In My Place
Coldplay were decent back in the day, they have so much promise, before Chris Martin became the worlds most irritating bell sniff. What an album this is, the big tracks are so good, it falls of a bit on the second half of the album, but first 5 tracks are great. Best Track: God put a smile upon your face
Masterpiece
Solid album, very nostalgic
Nice
This has some incredible songs.
i come from a 2000s coldplay family <3
They get some hate but this album along with everything up to Viva is pretty solid. This was a great morning album.
This is really good rock. I don't really understand the critiques here. They do this style really well and I think this album is so well done. Everything here is so interesting and mellow. I really enjoyed this. This is a solid 4 Liked Songs: "Politik" , "In My Place" , "God Put a Smile upon Your Face" , "The Scientist" , "Clocks" , "Warning Sign" , "A Whisper" , "A Rush of Blood to the Head" , "Amsterdam"
That was certainly more pleasing than I expected. The choices of instruments are very eclectic while the choices of style are kind of the opposite, but I don't mind it because they make up for it with really clever song progressions and melodies.
Wow, this was kind of a rocker, up there with some U2 albums. Caught me off guard to some extent. More power, more heft than I would have expected from Coldplay. I think there’s more here than meets the eye.
This album made me improve my opinion about Coldplay.
Classic Coldplay Great album
4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/coldplay/a-rush-of-blood-to-the-head/ I will always defend early Coldplay, because this album is good! Some of their best on this. Also some less interesting stuff, but even that is miles better than their recent albums.
Bra
Almost a perfect record, very few skips, this is them at the height of their powers before they kinda went all U2.
Chris Martin is the Greg Maddux of frontmen: a guy with no fastball and the charisma of a furniture salesman who *somehow* manages to throw strikeouts over and over. Beneath Martin's anti-aura exterior there's a steely confidence that separates him from his post-Britpop peers - witness how often he goes back to the well of unadorned acoustic guitar or piano, using the negative space to great effect ("Green Eyes," "The Scientist," "Amsterdam"). It's also why he's unafraid to address, in his own oblique way, the uncertain post-9/11 world around him, from the chilling opener "Politik" (written while watching the Towers fall and recorded two days later) to the little spikes of dissonance in "God Put a Smile upon Your Face." Everybody's favorite Coldplay album is the one they heard right before they found out they were supposed to hate Coldplay, which for me is *X&Y*. But the legions who consider this their best effort are onto something.
Hearing some of these songs live changed my life lowkey
Favorite songs were: The Scientist, Politik, Clocks. Forgot there were some good ones on this album.
I wish they had kept making music this human and affecting and avoided the path of purposefully universally relatable anthems that corresponded to no actual human emotion within the artist they took from here on out
Crime!
It reminded me of my childhood
I got a U2 and a Coldplay album this week. Same band, for different generations. I was honestly ready to write this album off as a cheesy middle 3 rating, but turns out I kind of liked it. I’m a Millennial, this comes as a shock to no one.
One of their better albums for sure
Stockholm
This album really has most of their hits eh. The piano riff in Clocks always gets me. It's great.
𝘈 𝘙𝘶𝘴𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘥 refines Coldplay’s post-Britpop sound into something more focused and cohesive. The album leans into a restrained, melancholic atmosphere, with clear, melodic songwriting at its core. Songs like 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 stand out in particular, capturing the album’s strength: simple structures, strong melodies, and a direct emotional pull. It’s not a flashy record, but it works through consistency and mood rather than big gestures. While not every track leaves a lasting impression, the overall flow and a few key highlights make it a compelling listen.
I've listened to this record prior and liked it then, my opinion hasn't changed since. I personally think in terms of Coldplay discography, Viva la Vida is much better, but this record definitely isn't bad either. It can be a little boring at times, as there aren't many songs that really try to leave a lasting impression I feel like... but it's very decent if not good regardless. The songs work, the singing works, the instrumentation is very tight and layered. The also has a few highlights throughout. The Scientist is a little cheesy, but it's a very nostalgic song for me and holds a special place in my heart regardless. Politik and Clocks are intensely outward-looking and bombastic at the same time, grasping at greater issues of the world at large. Most of the songs are kiiiind of about the same thing though? But again, it's not a bad record, can just feel a bit samey at times. 3/5.5 rounded up.
What can you say about Coldplay that hasn't already been said. Yes they are a meme. Yes lots of people claim not to like them. Yes they are somewhat average in many ways. Yes Chris Martin is a bit of a knob. But there's just something about their earlier albums that really hits.
I am sad. This album makes me sad. Every song is sad. Very nostalgic and overall a great work. 8/10
Well, well, well, Coldplay. This is the album when they were kinda good and I can see why: the first half of the album is quite stong, with basically the singles showing the potential the band used to have. The piano in clocks is still one of my favourite thing about Coldplay, and In My Place is also a strong single but the second half des show some lazy ideas. . It's funny to look back now over 20 years and see how bad they become, and now Chris Martin universe with first in the BTS (who they anyway?) Featured song. I think this was a basic rock but good album, and itvdid influence lotsbof people. 4/5
its an okay album but not a fan of coldplay really
*Conversational rock, piano guitar In my place The scientist Clocks
I got this album shortly after it came out based on hearing “Clocks,” and found it a little disappointing and unmemorable overall. Years later, I found more to like. It stats off a little slow with a few okay songs, but The Scientist takes things up a notch and starts a really good run through Clocks and Daylight. Green Eyes is the weakest track and starts a bit of a late-album lull. The closer, Amsterdam, might be the best thing on the album. I like the songs that are a bit more piano-forward. I don’t think it’s quite as good as Parachutes but still a light 4.
Me surpreendeu, NGL, mas a primeira metade sobrepõe a segunda. 7.5/10
Lots of hits, but some good deep tracks.
A Rush of boot to the arse. Seriously though I don’t mind Coldplay and one of their albums is justified. I’m not sure it’s this one but if this is the only one I’ll take it. They sold huge and showed the state of music in the early 2000s. So provided this is the only Coldplay. 3.5 rounded up. Clocks is a great song.
Far better than I'd expected, pre-stadium rock but still anthemic
Absolute belter. Many great songs this, obviously The Scientist is a personal favourite, but I also found myself really getting into Daylight.
Honestly a lot better album than people give them credit for. If you don’t like pop-leaning indie, it will never be for you. But the sequencing and craftsmanship is among the best of the time
Not really my favorite band ever, given that they kinda earned their reputation as some of the safest yet still popular pop rock, but this is still easily their best album. Clocks is definitely a guilty pleasure all-timer pop song for me. 8/10.
Last listened to this one in full a decade ago. I appreciate this one for being their darkest album I've listened to (everything pre 2020) and I find myself appreciating the first two tracks (Politik and In My Place) much more than I used to. Favourite track: Amsterdam
nice
When this album dropped I listened to it a lot. Believe it or not Coldplay was kinda cool back then and just really beginning their meteoric rise to global superstardom. These days it’s hard for me to take them seriously for one reason or another. That said, when I put this album on today I realized why I liked them. It’s great. It’s got all the good Coldplay with really none of the bad. These songs feel big and carry emotion. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Love this album
Clocks and The Scientist. It’s really good album. (11 songs, 54 mins)
Definitely reminiscent of the Oasis album we listened to, but though I enjoyed many of these songs, some of them were just a bit forgettable. Regardless, I think this album gets less credit than it deserves. I was surprised by how almost Radiohead-esque some of these songs were and by the more ambient, drone-y moment on songs like Daylight and A Whisper. There is definitely some great songwriting here. Also, I really love The Scientist a lot... very nostalgic even for me. Favorites: In My Place, The Scientist, Daylight, A Whisper
Come take my cool card. I'm giving this four stars
87/100
Increíble disco
Love the vibe so much.
Really great album I loved it so much I will definitely be listening to it again
Sometimes, you gotta just ignore all the hipsters and chill out and vibe to some early Coldplay. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
I‘m at 3.5 on this. It‘s too long
This album was such a pleasant surprise for me. I wasn’t very impressed with Parachutes when I listened to it so I wasn’t expecting much from this one. Then I listen to it and realize it’s freakin transcendent. Great album.
Good album
Very pleasant
Coldplay gets an undeservedly bad rap. People like to talk trash about them like Creed or Nickelback or something. Their music is actually well written, fairly complex, and well performed. It's just softer and not pushing boundaries like Radiohead or Muse, who I'd most closely compare them to. It's nice to have something that's just nice.
It is remarkable how popular Coldplay is. The number of monthly listeners on Spotify must have them in the top 5 of all artists, if not the top 1. And while it's probably not cool to like them these days, their first 2 albums were remarkable, and seeing the tour for this album at the Hollywood Bowl was a top concert going experience for me. I feel like their music went downhill after this... obviously not from a success or popularity standpoint but it lost some of its rawness after this album. Maybe Chris Martin was chasing the hits or something.
Honestlyyyyy
Their music feels familiar
Famous Coldplay songs just kinda existed as I grew up, and I never really went out of my way to listen to their albums in full. But surprisingly, I really enjoyed this. Also, God Put a Smile upon Your Face chords are super similar to Canto de Ossanha, and honestly kinda great use of that progression.
Some classic Coldplay bangers on this album!
Lots of Coldplay's classic songs represented in this album
Exceeded my expectations, pretty good lyricism from Chris Martins alongside a very sweet and clean production
nuts to the haters this was a great listen. i think these coldplay lads are gonna be huge someday
man, this album took me back to grade school, when coldplay was a legitimately enjoyable and interesting band. i haven't really cared for any of their output after x&y, but AROBTTH is a Pretty Good Album. the first half is great, and the latter half is... fine. also, as a kid, i thought the album cover was a picture of a spray bottle before seeing it up close. favorites: tracks 1-5
I'm one of those rare people who has heard all the singles (repeatedly) but never listened to an album... and yet is indifferent to Coldplay. They exist and I've never really felt the need to dig deeper, but I also don't understand why they get so much hate or end up the butt of so many jokes. Before we get to the run of massive singles, I actually really liked Politik as an opener - it's dramatic and urgent and a great start. Of the singles, I think I have just heard some of these songs too much and the over exposure has not been kind. Except God Put A Smile Upon Your Face exists and I have always and will always love that song. Rolling Stone described it as "slinky" which is a perfect word for it. Onto the other album tracks, I liked Green Eyes' honky-tonk sound. The Whisper was also really enjoyable and I liked Amsterdam (though Chris Martin sounds very different during chunks of it which threw me slightly). This is a very solid album, with undeniably massive appeal, which generated some global mega hits. If I had half stars, this would be a 3.5, but even though I'm not sure it's totally for me (I like it and can see the quality, but it doesn't grab me emotionally like many other records do) it deserves more than a 3, so: 4/5
The first half has all the big singles, but the deep cuts in the second half are just as good
Really great listen. Crazy how many smash hits the first half of the album has. This album is quintessential early Coldplay for me, with the dreamy shimmery guitar and vocal performances that feel very raw and unprocessed. Campfire songs taken to a next level. Really like this one, just a super solid album.
Very good. A bit sad to give 4 stars but it's not outstanding. I do love it, and very prone to listen again
Halcyon and on and on is a 5, the rest of the album, a 2.
I love this album, I feel like this was Coldplay’s prime time album in the 2000s before they got downhill. Hopefully we get Parachutes soon. Favorite tracks: Politik, God put a smile upon your face, The scientist, Clocks, Daylight, Green eyes, Warning sign, A rush of blood to the head, Amsterdam Least favorite tracks: A whisper Rating 4/5
Huge Coldplay fan!
As per Parachutes last week, it's difficult to not enjoy this album, there are 6 top quality songs here - cinematic, stirring and simple - with strong melodies, and tons of emotion. So there I said it, it's great.
I listened to this album as I collected the final DLC trophies in A Little To The Left. I came into this album with a lot preconceived notions about Coldplay, specifically their reputation for being a pretty boring band. I left my first listen feeling pretty unimpressed aside from the big singles like The Scientist and Clocks, but once it was over, I felt like I hadn't given the album an actual proper chance, so I listened to it one more time, and well... This feels like my least justifiable opinion so far on this list, but I actually quite like this album. It might be my exposure to, and love for, standard radio pop music when I was younger, but despite much of this album not being particularly innovative or ambitious at first glance, I just can't help but find it compelling. I tend to like the lyricism and songwriting on the album (I'm always a sucker for repeated lyrical motifs bringing an album together), and many of the instrumentals, while simple, scratch an itch in my brain and I find them to be catchy and powerful. The sparseness of the instrumentals also helps sell the lonely and despondent tone of the album in a really strong way for me. We don't get to choose what music resonates with us, and though I would never have guessed it beforehand, this album does speak to me; how dare you do this to me, Coldplay? How will I ever recover from this? Highlights: Politik, In My Place, God Put a Smile upon Your Face, The Scientist, Clocks, Green Eyes, A Rush of Blood to the Head
Solid album. I think Parachutes is tighter, but still plenty of good tracks here.
Great one
Great album but holy hell did it get oversaturated after it came out.
sounded like my childhood
me encantó
Coldplay is one of those bands people either roll their eyes at or secretly defend. I get both reactions. On this record, though, it’s hard to deny the craft. The melodies are strong, the arrangements are thoughtful, and the songs actually build instead of just floating. This feels like Coldplay before they became a stadium algorithm. There’s still a band here. The piano lines are simple but effective, the dynamics are earned, and the emotional tone—while sometimes flirting with saccharine—mostly lands. Chris Martin’s voice comes and goes for me. At times it carries genuine vulnerability; at others it leans a little too sweet. But even when it tips toward sentimental, the songwriting underneath is sturdy enough to hold up. Not transcendent. Not life-altering. But undeniably solid. A very strong four.
First initial thoughts were that this has a crazy good texture, very luscious. I can definitely see why sometimes people compare this to OK Computer, it's not exactly but I can see why now. As I though why a pop band like Coldplay would be compared to that, but Coldplay at least around this time were a bit more deep than just 'pop.' My favourite song on this one was"Politk" which has a main part sounds like a orchestral rendition of the distorted, thumping guitars of My Bloody Valentine's song "You Made Me Realise." Highlight Song/s: "Politik"
S Lied woni do beschrebe ha esch de erschti teil vo the Scientist gse. I gwössne Songs wie öppe Clocks gods aber rhythmisch doch no rächt Komplexer zue ond här. Clocks esch zwar ned s Komplexischte (Daylight z. B. esch komplexer), ech fühle eifach wie mer eigentlech dänkt e Uhr seg emmer sehr regelmässig ond de möched die e Song wo sie emer de 1., 4. ond 7. schlag betoned, du also zwöi 3er ond de es 2er gröppli hesch was de e gwössi Onregelmässigkeit i sech hed. Allgemein esch t Melodie halt mega Iprägsam. Do esch eifach t frog öbs t Omnipräsänz vo dene Songs, vo settige Akkörd oder eifach s Genie hender dene Songs esch? So au öppe in my place, woni mues säge, dasses en sehr geile Riff hed. Au no z erwähne esch Politik. De allererscht Akkord i dem Song ond folglech vom Albom esch e Moll akkord. Klar chas au schön si, wenns ned grad vollgas ged, aber met so wenig energie ond ere so semple struktur esches au ned bsonders schön. So chonds dasi sehr gärn i de erschte hälfti wörd 5 Stärne gä. Banger noch Banger. Geili Rhythmik, fonktionierendi Akkörd ond e Banger stemm. I de zwöite aber no öppe 3. So bliibt mer nüd anders öbrig als t metti z näh ond 4 Stärne z gä. För 5 längeds eifach ned.
I enjoyed this album more than I anticipated. I loved Viva La Vida, but outside of that I've slept on them.
Éste Coldplay estaba muy cabrón, lástima
I remember when this band came out - everyone was comparing them to Radiohead and I still don't know why. Could it be the vocals? It sure wasn't the instrumentation and arrangements. Coldplay is a straight-up pop-rock outfit and Radiohead morphed into an electronic band with OK Computer which was 3 whole years before Coldplay's debut. Coldplay has more in common with Keane or U2. This is their second album and it's basically the same as their first, decent hooks and melodies with a couple blockbuster singles. The singer is kind of an acquired taste with a weird nasal delivery and frequent forays into falsetto. Clocks was the big single from this one like Yellow was for the previous one. I liked them when they first started out - their songs have an epic-style production and are catchy. Over the years it's become easier to be dismissive of Coldplay as a calculated hit factory churning out generic top-40 hits and racking up Grammys, but before they were the ubiquitous sold-out-arena monster they were just a band. They're adept at making euphoric-sounding tunes, even if they verge into adult contemporary territory. This is a good record, but I couldn't tell you about anything they've done after this other than Chris Martin's relationship with the ridiculously pseudo-hippie-yet-bougie self-absorbed nepo-baby Gwyneth Paltrow.
Excellent Coldplay album. Slow at times, but I enjoyed it. Some really good songs on this album. I like most if not all songs on here, even if Chris Martin's lyrics come off as corny sometimes. I felt this was quite a cohesive album experience. All the songs were similarly paced.
It is a good album but their sound is too close to U2 for me to not just listen to U2 instead. 4 stars or B.
Classic
Loud and proud
Never listened to Coldplay too much just their popular songs and I was surprised with liking this album this much!
For a time, this felt like it was everywhere and touted as the next big thing. Hyped up as this huge sweeping record. When I finally listened to a few of these songs, I was surprised by how low-key they were. I think if you approach this without grand expectations, then chances are you might enjoy this a good deal. Its pleasing and possibly their best album.
Another one I own and love. Haven't listened in a while so I went back through it a couple of times and while I may not love it as much as I did when it first came out, it's still excellent.
NOBODY SAIIIID IT WAS EEAAASYYYYYYY
"We have OK Computer at home" OK Computer at home: ------------------------------------------------------- Fr though I really enjoy this album, I've had some ups and downs with my enjoyment of Coldplay over the years, they were one of the first bands I was really obsessed with as a kid and I then jumped on the Coldplay hate bandwagon through my later teens, which I think was understandable considering the rapidly decreasing quality of their work, but going back now to listen to their earlier albums I think their is some really fantastic music to be found, this record especially standing above the rest. The only thing I could hold against it is I think they could have cut a couple tracks in the latter half, tracks 8 and 9 in particular really start to drag the momentum of the album. But tracks 1 through 6 really showcase some genuinely phenomenal song writing. Or maybe its the nostalgia talking, who can say? Fav Track: 5 - Clocks Best Three Track Run 3, 4, 5
Highlights: - Politik - In My Place - God Put a Smile upon Your Face - The Scientist - Clocks - Daylight - Warning Sign - A Rush of Blood to the Head - Amsterdam
I had a difficult time rating this one. There were some good songs here, but I also felt it had lots of filler and forgettable songs. I wish I could give a 3.5/5.
Trails off a bit at the end but this is still when they were good
Yeah, sure, why not?
Favorite songs: Politik, In My Place, The Scientist, Clocks, A Whisper
Great lyricism
Clocks is in my too favorites. Very instrumental and beautiful.
Before they peaked for me.
so many good songs, already heard
Classic Coldplay before they sold out and went full pop. Not as good as Parachutes.
tbh second favorite coldplay album now. it fell off i like parachutes
My rating. 3.8
Liked Songs: - Politik - God Put a Smile upon Your Face - The Scientist - Clocks - Daylight - Green Eyes
call me basic....kinda excited for this.....i always forget how much i enjoy coldplay oh wow...i fully meant to write so much more and i just didn't..... i think this is a great album but i wonder if it being such a departure from the vibe of the past few impacted this assessment.....
i’ve always liked this cover, i think it matches the coldplay sound/vibe i like coldplay’s sound, very easy to listen to and i like the instrumentals feel like the songs are distinct but still blend well, very cohesive sound standouts: warning sign daylight green eyes the scientist * a rush of blood to the head * clocks * * def a nostalgia factor w some of these
Politik 4.5/5 In My Place 3.5/5 God Put A Smile upon Your Face 5/5 The Scientist 3.5/5 Clocks 4/5 Daylight 4/5 Green Eyes 3.5/5 Warning Signs 3.5/5 A whisper 3/5 Rush of Blood to The Head 4/5 Amsterdam 4/5 Average: 3.86 4 Stars
Coldplay get a lot of grief for their newer stuff (some warranted, some unwarranted) but this absolutely slaps. Honestly close to 5 for me. Hit after hit after hit
Coldplay are overrated IMHO, this has some total bangers on it
Best song: The Scientist Pretty good, love album. But I feel like Coldplay is underrated
Love this album, could listen to every song on it.
Beautiful. Timeless
I forgot how much I actually like this album. It was a good listen.
8 - GOOD
Лучшая песня: A Whisper
Solid.
No sé por qué les tenía manía. Muy buen disco
Guilty pleasure alert! I've enjoyed Coldplay through the first the albums. Bit shocked to observe their global domination from humble beginnings... but it's a jigsaw that works. Simple songs played and sung beautifully. The right hint of psychedelic, some actually interesting chord progressions. And a real knack for a catchy melody. Restrained guitars. It's a great package. Clocks is brilliant in its simplicity, and politik works. Like a bridge between yellow and miss you.
Politik - 9 In My Place - 8 God Put a Smile upon Your Face - 8 The Scientist - 8 Clocks - 9 Daylight - 8 Green Eyes - 8 Warning Sign - 7 A Whisper - 7 A Rush of Blood to the Head - 9 Amsterdam - 8
Once upon a time Coldplay was cool and good and this album was the pinnacle of that time.
A timeless classic despite Chris Martin being mildly irritating.
No.
coldplay are kind of good actually. politik + the scientist forever
Liked this one a lot, really good songs on here
A Coldplay classic
(Already rated, sorry for the double vote)
Man, I guess I've been sleeping on Coldplay. I pretty much only knew them from their radio hits, and my general impression was a lot of boring fluff. There's a little bit of that here on the popular stuff like The Scientist and Clocks, even if they're still solid. But you got stuff like Green Eyes with its bouncy country vibes are great. Definitely a little derivative of early Radiohead, but that's not a bad thing. Overall, great record.
I don't get the Coldplay hate. It's almost like they're the Nickleback of the pop world. Are they earnest? Sure. Can it be too much? Also sure. But the other end of the spectrum can be just as wearing. This album is eminently listenable. The four tracks from "In my place" through to "Clocks" are a very solid block of music.
This is great
Fantastic album.
Coldplay is not a band I keep in rotation but I cant deny that they’ve made some great stuff. This album is very enjoyable and gave us some timeless classics.
Big fan of the pre-2010 Coldplay albums (my favorite being Viva la Vida). This one's no exception. Some great hits: The Scientist, Clocks, God put a smile upon your face Mostly solid songs with a good mix of folk/pop/rock. Piano+singing sections always work super well. It feels super Coldplay-ish, if you're into that, then it's a great one.
89/100.
Good. Nothing surprising but I think this album shows why they broke big they way they did.
one of a kind
Better than I anticipated, very much of the era but maybe that’s because Coldplay was such a force in the early aughts. Forever muddied by the 40 year old virgin bit haha
Pretty good album. The Scientist and Clocks is on here
Piano driven pop rock. Solid album. Hugely popular in the early 2000’s. Notable tracks include In My Place, The Scientist, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Clocks, Green Eyes, Warning Sign, Amsterdam.
Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head is a masterclass in emotive, arena-ready alternative rock. From the delicate piano of “Clocks” to the soaring crescendos of “The Scientist” and the urgent, almost brittle energy of “Politik,” the album balances introspection with stadium-sized ambition. Chris Martin’s falsetto and the band’s restrained yet dramatic arrangements create moments of genuine emotional resonance. While some tracks lean a bit too heavily on Coldplay’s trademark earnestness, the album’s consistency and melodic inventiveness make it a standout of early-2000s rock. A richly textured, often stirring listen that solidifies Coldplay’s place in the post-Britpop era.
schönes Album
Love the vibes, more contemplative and proggy in some parts than more recent Coldplay albums
Ofc I'd heard all the iconic songs on this album before, but I really loved the other songs I'd never heard before. The opening song was especially cool. This was a very good listening experience.
i was honestly very pleasantly surprised by this album, i’ll be honest, my expectations were very low when i saw it was coldplay, from my knowledge of them, i thought they made music for target but i was not familiar with early 2000s coldplay, bc ts was peak, i might have to listen to their first album now
One of the defining albums of the 2000's. Tons of good songs, launched the band firmly into superstar status, still stands up well, crosses generational gaps, tons of airplay and listens. Huge hits "In My Place" (473M listens), the now classic "The Scientist" (2.6B listens, check out Johnette Napolitano's version!), and "Clocks" (1.3B) lead the charge. All of them are beloved and heavily played on rock/alt/easy listening stations. The guitar line for "In My Place", the chorus to "The Scientist" and the piano intro to "Clocks" are iconic and instantly recognizable. The musicianship is excellent, the production is outstanding and the vocals are easily his best. "Politik" (110M) is a great song, "God Put A Smile..." (140M), "Green Eyes" (170M) & "Warning Signs" (110M, great song) round out an impressive lineup and listener counts. The least popular song on the album, "Daylight" has 40M listens! I would have left "Green Eyes" & "A Whisper" off the album myself, weak songs. You can't deny the popularity, like them or not, or the impact this album had on the early 00's or pop/rock radio to this day. Staying power, hit songs and the huge splash this made at the time push this to a 4 star rating though I'd grade it as more of a 3.6 overall.
The only great Coldplay album. Probably the only good Coldplay album, too.
"A Rush of Blood to the Head" evolves from the mellower and acoustic "Parachutes" into more stadium-friendly pop, but still with hints of their indie-inflected rock beginnings. Polished production is combined with the melancholic themes commonplace throughout their early work, and embodied particularly in centrepiece anchors "Clocks" and "The Scientist". Further, while Coldplay has a distinct sound, they display their range in the somewhat lesser-known songs "Green Eyes" and "In My Place". On the back of all these elements, is easy to see why this album ranks among the best.
I enjoyed it.
I remember listening to this album when it came out, imagine my mom bought it, and at the time my then 4yr old baby brother LOVED the song Clocks. The Scientist and the music video that accompanies it is the standout for me, and I was just recommending it to a friend the other day. Overall this album was a good listen and I enjoy Coldplay’s other works.
i didn't love how long all of the songs are but i guess that doesn't matter too much. also i didn't realise how many people hate on coldplay - uncalled for. good album however i think its better listened to out and about doing something maybe rather than laying in bed. my favourite track was the scientist probably but i think its one of those albums you need to listen to a couple times to know for sure.
I remember listening to this album on my Sony Walkman CD player as a kid, and I have to admit this album still hits the same. Nice nostalgic pick this week!
You know what? I didn’t expect to actually like this album. Not a big Coldplay fan at all. But it must pair well with doing payroll and timesheets. I don’t know how pairing two things I’m not a fan of made both more enjoyable.
Really enjoyable and easy listening
The Scientist is a go to karaoke song for me not gonna lie here, love that tune. Been listening to Coldplay for a long time, but have never listened to this one all the way through. Big fan, was teetering on giving a 5, but unsure... So nostalgic for me, so I kind of tune out all the hate with my rose coloured glasses. Peeped the global reviews, and sheeeeesh, so divisive. Either love it or hate it, seems like few sit in the middle. Its so inoffensive, which I find a bit funny with how much people shit on Coldplay. There is some undeniably great singing, melodies and harmonies on here, with some delightful & simple piano playing to accompany it. Clocks & The Scientist rise above the rest for me. 8.5/10
Better than I thought. May listen again
One of the best early Coldplay albums.
I'm not super into Coldplay, but this album is good.
This is a very interesting use case of a Jekyll and Hyde album. Side A is phenomenal, hit after hit and just INTERESTING. Coldplay can be used as the butt of a joke but I won't deny that those songs are all good. Side B hits and it's so boring. Like, none of the flair and attention grabbing of the first side. It's like Side A is a 5 and Side B is a 3, hmm I wonder what I'll rate this album as a result.
I missed out on the rise of Coldplay. Busy with work, kids and life in general. That's a shame because they sound good. It's easy listening, which I prefer because I often listen to music when I'm doing other things. I heard some influence from Pink Floyd (guitar and vocals) in at least one track, and found all tracks musically and vocally well built. I think my main criticism is that it's all a bit slow. A few more lively tracks would have improved the album.
Full disclouse: I have a lot of time for this album because I got really into it when I was about 14/15 years old. It was one of the first full albums I got hooked on as a young lad, so it's probably safe to say it had a role in shaping my love of music (which I'm sure will sound ridiculous to the sizable contingent of music lovers that despise Coldplay with a burning passion). Back in the day, Coldplay were basically the exact opposite of a 'Singles Band' in my eyes. Their big hits from this album (In My Place, The Scientist) are the most trite and uninteresting tracks here, while the songs that seem to have been quietly forgotten by history in the wake of Coldplay becoming Public Enemy #1 among 'serious' music enthusiasts have some really great moments, like the climax in Got Put a Smile Upon Your Face, and the intro through to the opening verse in Warning Sign (Which I think is probably the best song they ever made). This album was probably Coldplay's best attempt at making use of Chris Martin's (admittedly rather limited) vocals as an instrument to compliment the other parts of their songs, rather than just as a somewhat pleasant voice to belt out banal lyrics over bombastic compositions, which is the formula they eventually settled on for more widespread appeal. I think if I was trying to be more "objective," I'd probably drop a star from my review because there are some pretty weak tracks on this record, but I'm willing to admit I'm letting nostalgia cloud my judgement here. Favourite tracks: Warning Sign, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Amsterdam
The only Coldplay song that I was previously familiar with, at least to my knowledge, was Clocks, which of course is on this album. I always thought that Clocks was ok, but I have to say that I really enjoyed most of this album, and I was a bit surprised by that. I think if I had been familiar with this album back in the day it might have been one that I would have played a lot. Anyway, I am giving it four stars. I will be listening to it again.
We don't get what the hate is all about. Coldplay are pretty inoffensive to us, and we enjoyed this album quite a lot. The Scientist is always a great song.
Coldplay - outside of Parachutes, X&Y, & Viva la Vida, this is probably one of their best - a smooth and satisfying offering of soft pop rock.
4.0
Overall, this is a solid album in my opinion. It's pretty generic and easy to listen to but that's Coldplay's whole thing, right? They're *supposed to be* easily approachable. I enjoyed it.
I think I would consider myself a Coldplay hater, but that has softened lately. This was my first time actively listening to a Coldplay record and I'm impressed. Sounds great, original, maybe a little dull at times but Martins vocals shine throughout. Nice work fellas. My daughter loves In My Place and whenever we can agree on a song we like it always raises the stock of the band.
“Yellow” was my first Napster download ever - Coldplay’s new stuff is kind of unlistenable, and they’re definitely a little toothless overall, but I have a soft spot for the first three albums. Scientist, Green Eyes, and Amsterdam are good tracks.
Excellent well produced album!
Earnest
4/5
This is a great album 4/5
After being bombarded with awful & obscure Brit pop every other day, this album sounded like a Masterpiece. Definitely peak Coldplay and a reminder of why people show up to their concerts. Would I listen to again? Never thought I'd say this: I would intentionally listen to this Coldplay album again.
Very good, very popular 4/5
Used to listen to the first two Coldplay albums all the time when I met my wife. Didn’t keep up with them after those first two but these two always take me back.
I understand the criticisms levelled against Coldplay. They are a bit beige. But sometimes you want a nice bowl of beige, like weetabix. A nice comforting beige hug.
Some hit songs, some great sounds, some weird effects!!
Coldplay cop a lot of flak for a lot of contradictory things. I've heard them described as too dreary, but also too saccharine; as bland but also grating. In part this might be due to the way the band has reinvented itself over the years and gone from sounding like "Radiohead 2" to a sort of spacey/electronic anthemic pop rock outfit, but I suspect it's more just because finding reasons to hate Coldplay is popular. The fact is, they're clever songwriters and talented musicians. The first 4-5 albums in particular are really good, and frankly I'm surprised Viva La Vida isn't on this list. I dated a girl 15 years ago who was super into Coldplay, and then it turned out my parents had some of their CDs so I got into them at the time (casually, but enough to impress my then-girlfriend). We went to their concert together (Mylo Xyloto tour) and as much as she turned out to be, uh... how do I put this gently? "Not a good person for me" shall we say? I still appreciate that we got to do that, and I haven't let go of my appreciation of early Coldplay. Anyway, back to A Rush of Blood... It's great! You just need to ignore that it's "Coldplay" and give it a genuine chance. Honestly, enough said.
Umm pretty good actually couple bangers
Say what you will about Coldplay. I have. Many others have too, a lot more than me, too. This is a great album. Of its age, but also timeless. 4/5.
It’s good, haven’t listened to Coldplay in a long time.
8 / 10
Deep, melancholic sounds.
Loved The Soft Vibes Of The Album And How It Made Me Experience A New Genre That I Have Never Heard Befor
I know we are supposed to hate Coldplay but gosh darn it this album is filled with bangers
Not a massive Coldplay fan .. but great album if course with some forever classic tracks on it…
Those first few albums were pretty decent.
I wore out the grooves on this metaphorical record in college.
This really gets the blood flowing
I had this album on my 2006 iPod nano, so nostalgia might play a part here 😂. I must have listened to the scientist hundreds of times while looking longingly out the car window. Clocks also still slaps. New Coldplay is pretty bland, but I enjoy this.
An excellent sophomore effort that proves Coldplay wasn’t interested in making Parachutes v.2. Instead, they expanded their sound, a little more ambitious, more layered, and emotionally sharper. The songwriting feels confident, with sweeping production and a balance between intimacy and grandeur. A solid album that solidified their place beyond the “new Radiohead-lite” comparisons.
Incredible. The first album that felt like one. Some of the songs were incredible but most really only shine as part of the album. 7/10
Cerebral prog-rock with a touch of melancholia. Piano driven melodies and a subtle, unhinged vocal delivery from Chris Martin. Epic heartbeat of an opener.
Peak Coldplay. Favs: In My Place, Clocks, A Whisper (inesperada fav y no sé por qué tiene nota tan baja en AOTY), Amsterdam
Very good. Best track amsterdam
Opens up very strong, the drums in Politik set the tone and are attention grabbing. This song is a "call to action" and does a great job of it. In my Place, is jaunting. This song has a very clear theme and phenomenal vocals. God Put a Smile Upon my Face- Good guitar in it, nothing special The Scientist- Might be Coldplay's best song. It will make you cry, its absolutely numbing. Clocks- I think its slightly worse than what the general public thinks. I recall this song getting over played on the radio when it fist came out, still not a bad tune though. Daylight- I like the riff in this, feels like a nod to Echo & The Bunnymen's song "The Cutter". Green Eyes- I think this could be left off this album, if I had to pick a song. Warning Signs- Pretty weak A Whisper- Pretty weak as well A Rush of Blood to the Head- Amsterdam- Great way to end the album, fits overall theme
Not a bad little album with some great hits on it.
I fucking love earlier Coldplay. Yes I said that sincerely. Also clocks and the scientist and in my place are absolute epics 4/5
I thereby state that all the hate against Coldplay is wildly exaggerated. If they wouldn’t have reached worldwide success this would be much more appreciated.
Really enjoyed this album! A couple of standouts like The Scientist and Clocks. Overall strong album and would come back to it!
Instrumentally so atmospheric and catchy, emotional, love every song except Whisper and Daylight but the standout is between God Put a Smile upon Your Face and Warning Sign 8.5/10
Very solid album
Coldplay's second album. Maybe better than the first? I don't know. It certainly doesn't connect with me as much as their first album. It's good Britpop. Sure "In My Place" gives off serious U2 vibes, but every now and then I like a sad boy on sad piano singing a sad song, hello "Scientist" And I don't think you can beat the driving energy of "Clocks" That about covers the singles, and there are a few other good tracks here. Some duds that tend to drag the album too. Look no one wins cool points for liking Coldplay, but I think they make some quality music here.
Another nice peaceful album with a very strong hit with clocks Never lost itself just stuck to its guns. Very well produced with the strings and all instrumentation involved imo but not super fun jump out of your seat so keeping it at 4
Sounds fucking incredible in dolby atmos. Probably my second favorite of their records (viva la vida heads, we tha best). There was that whole pop off about them when that CEO got got fucking his HR Director at a concert, and like what’s worse than that doing it at a Coldplay concert. And their stuff after VLV is very different, going from brit rock to standard pop rock, to wtf is maroon V doing on this coldplay record (derogatory). But the first three albums are great, this one is great. Is a 4 crazy for this shit? hell no.
4.0 Coldplay (early Coldplay) is one of those rare bands that got better with age. At first I thought they were just ripping off Radiohead but after 24 years I have come to appreciate this album much more. I've always thought Coldplay was a "better Radiohead," actually I'd prefer if Radiohead just swapped out Tom for Chris as Tom's voice is annoying and whiny for such an obviously influential band. I really enjoyed early Coldplay (this was their 2nd studio release). I believe Clocks (even though they were sued) is one of the best songs ever written from a music theory (and execution) perspective.
I know Coldplay's music is considered boring or anodyne but I really enjoy it. This is a pretty damn good album. Favorites: Politik, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Clocks, Daylight, A Rush of Blood to the Head Would I listen to it again: Yes
Great album
