Reviews (page 2 of 14)
Like listening to paint dry. This album is 23 years old and I still haven’t learned to like it’s smug, saccharine, forced stadium anthems and especially that audible self-impressed grin that you can in the vocals. Coldplay have flayed the flesh from the bones of your favourite 70s soft rock acts and are wearing it as an ill fitting costume and it’s embarrassing.
Coldplay just headlined Glastonbury for a record fifth time, with one reviewer saying that it would be churlish not to enjoy their performance. Well, I’m that cold-hearted churl. I hate Coldplay. I hate their mind-numbing, faux-earnest, emotionally-manipulative songs. I hate that they normalised eschewing innovation and making unchallenging edge-free pop rock for the 21st Century. These days, they’ve realised that bands are no longer the moneymakers so they’ve switched to making “EDM” with emojis for song titles, which seems like the logical conclusion to their race to the bottom. Fuck Coldplay.
Please make it stop.
Ugh. The most nothing type of nothing music. Cod feeling cod emotion, awful awful awful. I call stuff like this music for people who don't actually like music
It's the first time I give a go to the full album; as everybody on the Western world I was forced to hear a bunch of tracks from this record, and I never like them. The rest of the album is no better. It's mellow overproduced pop-rock with plaintive vocals. I can get why it appeals to a large audience -- it is designed to -- but there is nothing close to interesting in their music. Some people told me that they were not yet full commercial shitty pop-rock at that time; I'm afraid of what they did after that if it's going down the hill from here: this is already a torture. I could have definitely die without this album. And I would gladly give 0 star if possible.
I can only assume that it’s albums like this that led to Gwyneth Paltrow leaving Chris Martin 1.4
Dull, insipid, corporate rock. Music for photocopier salespeople.
Coldplay's popularity is as great a mystery to me as U2's. That said, I made it to the end of this, so I must have disliked it less.
An album full of hsbc adverts
Couldn't do it. Awful play
Bland music that makes millions of people who don't like music fall into some soma version of "happiness" I guess? Best Tracks: God Put a Smile on Your Face; The Scientist; Clocks;
Go smells those vagina candles that your wife sells online to retarded people... The freaking falsettos on every single song...
more from the insufferable cunt that is chris martin. this one makes me more annoyed than parachutes as i get sympathy to his backing band of non descript sidekicks. the music behind this is fairly decent, there's some tracks on here that i reckon i would be really in to if they didn't have that wailing insufferable cunt being insufferable and a cunty over the top. however i can swerve the sympathy for them as they are mates with an insufferable cunt, which in the eyes of the law makes them an accessory to being an insufferable cunt so they might as well be charged with the same offence of being insufferable cunts. my biggest fear with coldplay is that in about a decade everyone will have forgotten what an insufferable cunt he is and they will have some big comeback thing where they're inescapable again but this time everyone will be blowing way more smoke up his arse as they'll have crept into the 'legend' category of people who stuck around making average music long enough that people think that validates them.
I once bumped into Chris Martin in the fruit aisle of Sainsbury's. I asked for a photo and although he obliged, I didn't feel like his heart was really in it and in the picture he seemed dead behind the eyes. I told him that it wasn't good enough and he apologised, but that wasn't good enough for me. I punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. I smashed him over the head with my shopping basket and dragged him out of the store. I bundled him into the back of my Peugeot and drove to a nearby lake. I opened the boot of the car and he begged for mercy. Mercy did not arrive. I pummelled him to within an inch of his life. I drive away regretting not having finished the job.
Unerträglich wenn ich könnte würde ich 0 Sterne geben!!!
Coldplay sucks
Top to bottom, full of bangers
I’ve already heard this. I think this is top 2 in Coldplays discography next to parachutes
is this album objectively a 5? no. but i'm biased because it means a lot to me. i've said it before and i'll say it again, Jonny Buckland is an underrated guitar player.
Klockren.
I can agree with some of the popular opinion on recent Coldplay, but this album was a revelation in its time and is still one of my favorites.
In my place. Scientist. Clocks
Can't get as big as they are without putting out some excellent stuff
Fantabulous
Loved. Always been a fan of Coldplay.
I've often heard Coldplay get compared to Radiohead and frankly I never understood the comparison. Radiohead has such a unique sound and, as a band, they make a ton of interesting choices musically. They also are beloved by critics, which Coldplay is decidedly not. In listening to what Coldplay has put into mass radio the last 2 decades, I'm not sure I could think of more divergent directions musically within the rock genre than Coldplay and Radiohead. Coldplay is decidedly radio friendly, while Radiohead is focused much more on bending the laws of music acceptability. But in listening to this album, I finally get why the comparisons exist. Before evidently turning towards being as commercially popular as possible, Coldplay appears to have had a super interesting sound that I would describe as a more straightforward Radiohead. Are they as talented? No. Is it as different as Radiohead? No. That said, there is a lot here that is different than their later "let's fill the stadium with this one" popular slop, and I have to say that I loved this record. The front half of this record is filled with great tracks. Politik is really interesting, I loved In My Place, and even God Put a Smile Upon Your Face is very good. Meanwhile, though The Scientist and Clocks are certainly heard a lot on the radio, they are genuinely tremendous songs, each very unique in their own sound. 5 songs in and this record has hit all the right notes. From there, the album isn't quite as peak, but it is still very good in many ways. Personally, I think the choices made on Daylight are very intriguing, even if it is a bit more straightforward of a track. Green Eyes gave me a bit of a Bob Dylan feel for some reason, maybe it's the way Chris Martin hits some of the chorus. Regardless, how voice moves through different registers is pretty impressive. A Warning Sign sounded like it could have been lifted straight from the 90s alternative catalog (which I love), so this track hit for me, especially with the full sound it builds to. A Whisper is track that has a lot of interesting layers to me. I could see the repetition of hearing "A Whisper" over and over again from CM bothering some people, but it wasn't over the top for me. This track was another winner to my ear. Perhaps interestingly, the title track was arguably the least interesting track on here. It's solid but it felt a bit like a harbinger of where they eventually head with how anthemic it is, so it was a bit of a letdown vs. the rest of the album. It's not bad, and the playing on it is solid, it just wasn't nearly as exciting as the rest of this collection. Fortunately, things pick back up with Amsterdam, which has a great atmosphere to it. Quiet and minimalist in its initial approach, it's a well-constructed song and Martin's flipping between falsetto, full-throated, and understated made this an excellent track. I suspect some people are not going to rate this very well because, well, it's Coldplay. But if you take the name out and really listen to this album - the diversity within and across the songs, the choices they make, the quality of the tracks - it's easy to love this album, even if it is a shame where they head from here. 5 stars. A tremendous record.
A Rush of Blood to the Head is a mellow, atmospheric album that's perfect for unwinding after a long day. It has a warm, reflective feel that pairs especially well with a rainy autumn afternoon. The lyrics are thoughtful and memorable, adding emotional depth to the beautiful melodies. A classic choice for both longtime Coldplay fans and newcomers, the album also features one of the band's most iconic songs, "Clocks."
Great debit album
Ahh old Coldplay, I miss you
Oh god, you got me listening to Coldplay. Actually an all killer no filler album.
Good stuff. I really like this album.
GREATEST DAY OF MY LIFE So timeless. It all just sounds so good. I already had four songs from this album in my library. I could gush about this one for hours. So emotional. So consistent. Chris sounds spectacular throughout. That last minute of Politik is spectacular. I’ve heard these songs a hundred different times each and it wasn’t until yesterday that I realized that they were all in the same album—just spectacular. I added every song but Green Eyes (which was still a charming, emotional song, I just don’t have the ears for it). I don’t know how it manages to sound so perfect instrumentally throughout the entire album. What a treat. Easiest five I’ve ever given.
Fantastic album beginning to end! Had never listened to the album before, but knew a few songs from radio play
A perfect example of a group taking what worked on their first album, and adding new levels of musical depth to enhance their output. A handful of iconic-if-overplayed songs, and a lot of lesser known tracks that are some of Coldplay's best. The only problem is Coldplay never managed to recapture this magic on their future albums. Top tracks: In My Place, The Scientist, Warning Sign, A Rush of Blood to the Head
heard this before, listened to it a lot as a kid (along with some other early Coldplay albums) Politik - 4/5 In My Place - 5/5 God Put a Smile Upon Your Face - 5/5 The Scientist - 5/5 Clocks - 5/5 Daylight - 3/5 Green Eyes - 4/5 Warning Sign - 5/5 A Whisper - 3/5 A Rush of Blood to the Head - 4/5 Amsterdam - 5/5 Average score: 4.4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ like em or not, i personally think this album is definitely Coldplay at their prime, followed by their debut Parachutes. i would have to go back and listen to some other albums to properly rank this of course, but i can't think of any albums they've released after this period that compares (Viva La Vida maaaaybe)
Wow, this one took me back. Great album, from an era where Coldplay was making music that is now, today, up my alley.
Increíble. El 2do mejor álbum de la banda
The best is the one of the name of the album, intro, outro
A great album to revisit that still sounds great. Favorite tracks: Got Put a Smile upon Your Face, Daylight, Green Eyes, Warning Sign
Álbum para vinilo
Ouiiiii c’est le Coldplay que j’aime The scientist c’était ma chanson pour m’achever moralement yeah
Look, do I like what Coldplay has become now in 2026? Not really. But some of these other reviews are crazy to hate on this album just because Coldplay is popslop now. Anyways, this album is great. Of course we all know "The Scientist" and "Clocks" coming in with over 4 BILLION Spotify streams currently between them, but I also really enjoy "In My Place" "God Put A Smile upon Your Face" "Daylight" and "Warning Sign" I do think the album drops off a little towards the end, but still good.
No lo escucharía siempre porque es denso, bajón, pero es muy sólido y me gusta mucho. Ya conocía varias canciones, nunca lo había escuchado entero.
I wanted to hate this, but I loved it. Really tight and clean, swooping harmonies and a considered album.
i am not immune to clocks by coldplay
An old favorite
Outstanding album from start to finish
Cracker of an album. Forgot how good it was, hadn’t listened to it in years. Every track is a belter
10/10 - this was a crucial part of my high school indie rock musical formation, I know they're known for their overscaled pop ballads but this album to me is flawless. The Coldplay I remember with classics such as The Scientist but hidden gems like Politik too. Brilliant Album
Albumazo, muy intenso, muy bonito, los inicios de estos pibes.
Awesome Coldplay album, with a lot of hits! Masterpiece of this band
Fantastic album!
A masterpiece!!!!
I know it's not cool at all, but I really like Coldplay.
2002. Second studio album. Considered amongst the best albums in history. The opening track "Politik" was recorded two days following 2001's September 11 attacks.
Great album. Loved it,
Excellent. The Scientist is a song that can be listened to again and again as is the case with the entire album.
I know they’re cringe now but I loved this album when it came out and I still do. Though I stopped listening to them after this one.
10/10 Album, almost no skips, 11 tracks and i would listen to at least 9 of them any day of the week. Genuinely the album that revolutionized 2000s brit pop.
Their best songs, its actually sad when you listen to Parachutes, AROBTTH and X&Y and then look at what they are making now. Their good music was over when they made viva la vida.
Peak
Probably my favorite album by them, green eyes is beautiful
This is one of my favorite albums. God Put a Smile, A Rush of Blood, Politik, Scientist…. So many I’ll give it a 9/10 solely because it truly is the sum of its parts- individually there are songs that removes from the album are just “good” but not great like Warning and Amsterdam.
amazing ,
In my opinion this band gets too much crap thrown at them than they deserve. This one is a slow burn & cuts deep. To me their first 2 are the pick!
UNDERRATED.
They’re all great tracks, but my favourite on this album has to be ‘God Put a Smile upon Your Face’. But there aren’t any bad tracks on this album, so as far as I’m concerned, it gets a rare 5-star rating...
Nice
goated
Some masterful songs on here and a good, good album
Great album, so many good songs, would own.
Special album for me, love this type of music
Starting straight with five hits is a pretty strong effort. And containing no true fails there is no other option than to give it the five stars. 4,5
A close to a perfect album as you can get, lyrics, melody and originality all in one.
Great album
Excellent
Love this sound!
I'm not a huge Coldplay fan or anything, but this album genuinely changed my life for the better. I've been listening to and loving this album for over 20 years now.
I'm not sure why Coldplay gets such a bad rap, they are a great band. This album, from beginning to end is incredible. I forgot just how good the whole thing is. "The Scientist" is one of my favorite songs of all time, and the rest of the tracks on this album are almost as good. Highlights: "Politik", "The Scientist", and "Green Eyes"
Shit, this album is actually incredible. Why can’t coldplay make music like this anymore?
bangers on this, this and parachutes is about the best they did
Classic coldplay, love it, there was a Scientist - love this song, but i m not sure if i should rate it 4 or5 , since i like it amd there wont be anything like so fantastic that i would give 5 straight away, but it might be close to it and the best so far soo... yeah i dont know what to do.
Welp, guess i like Coldplay now. I’d not given a full Coldplay album a shot til now and i really should have sooner, this was better than i expected. My main standout would be Green eyes, but the whole album is strong. Never did i think i’d give one of my rare 5’s to Coldplay but here we are.
Coldplay's most complete album. It established them as an arena touring power with worldwide reach, and gathered a plethora of deserved accolades. It's a shame they're no longer making music this cohesively good.
This has several classics on it (Clocks, The Scientist, In My Place) so you already knew it was going to be good, but the rest of this album is also just good. What can I say, I had a good time here. Easy five stars.
ludi Coldplay
Sorry but the first four Coldplay albums are a 5/5 for me. Fave tracks: Warning Sign (it was in a Buffy episode!) and God Put a Smile upon Your Face. Not actually bothered about Clocks. I feel the need to give excuses for my lack of dislike... Its good music to write to, y'know?
Listened in the car with my wife. This rating is particularly nostalgia, particularly for my wife as this is one of her favourite records, and particularly because it's legitimately a great album. It could melt even the coldest of hearts. For better or worse it changed the landscape of popular rock at the time. Really enjoyed it.
This is one of my fav Coldplay albums and holds a special place for me because it was the album I listened to alot when I was learning to drum
Loved it, always reminds me of my wife
Listened to this while putting away laundry with my wife, on a warm spring evening with the windows open. It was really nice. Then started crying because someday we’ll both be dead and this memory won’t exist anymore. Everything sucks now, including Coldplay, but this was a really lovely album.
Probably the best of Coldplay. Some lovely songs, which at the time felt quite fresh. I know it's fun to dunk on Coldplay (I do it too), but this album feels so pretty and wistful.
A guilty pleasure
Some of the Greatest hits from Coldplay.
Their best album. Lost their way not long after this. Best tracks Clocks and Amsterdam
Coldplay are a great band who frankly make great albums. Yes they might not be for everyone, but that’s fine. If you don’t like them just dont listen. The quality of the first five tracks on this album is ridiculous. Despite fairly simplistic instrumentation in the main they are so layered and packed with emotion. I dont think there is a bad track on this album
Great CD, listened to it I would guess 30+ times
Ik wist niet dat er zoveel hits op 1 cd van cold play stonden
FAVORITE ONE SO FAR 🌚
Despite what some naysayers may write, Good stuff. Some fine song writing and production here.
Good god was early Coldplay fucking fantastic. 2 absolutely beautiful albums. This was my longest album so far this week, and that time just flew by. The songs are slow, but so good that they must be distorting time. Felt like 20 minutes not 54. I loved this. I might have to listen to Parachutes to decide which is better though
This album remind me of high school math homework
If you'd asked me, I would have said I didn't feel very nostalgic for Coldplay. But relistening to The Scientist at home on a quiet Saturday night hit me like a brick. Suddenly I felt 14 again, feeling all the complicated and new emotions a 14 year old does. Five stars for emotions evoked, and some very beautiful songs.
9.0/10 My favourite Coldplay album
Loved this album since I was like 15? So good to hear it again after so long and add some liked songs too!
Their best album. Class
Oh, I have listened to this a lot back at school - on a CD! A really good album, and to me - quite a nostalgic one. It was such a pleasure to listen to it all from front to back again. A really strong poprock album.
One of my favourite albums of all time, that remains one of the great examples of an auditory journey you love being on from first track to last.
Love Coldplay!
I absolutely love this album. To me, this is Coldplay's best work. There's not a bad song on it, and some really great ones including "Clocks". An easy and well deserved 5 stars.
Меланхолия точная и рассчитанная.
I know this album so well, this is my childhood and I know them all by heart. Every song absolutely SLAPS and I don't care what anyone else says otherwise. Politik is rad, I think it's such a cool song. Coldplay could do a masterclass in alt-pop minimalism - the writing is simple at times but it's certainly not basic. And their use of suspensions is satisfying and beautiful. The diction is so crisp, the consonants are crystal clear but never harsh, and Chris Martin has a great voice. The piano in Scientist sounds like a slightly defined upright piano and it's lovely. The song is overplayed, but not without good reason - it's so beautiful Lol followed up by an exception to what i just said, I'm tired of hearing Clocks. Probably liked it the first time I heard it... but I've heard it way too much. Amsterdam is one of my favorites on the album. When I'm in a sad mood this song could bring me to tears. So wistful, so melancholy, but with a hopeful sounding chord progression. The lyrics in combination with the melody and the chords makes me emotional. I like the mixing, it's spacious and bright and the bass has clear pocket in the mix that really brings it out. Ok a criticism, sometimes the ends of songs drag a bit longer than feels necessary.
I rarely have every song from an album saved. Front to back this album is so good. The songs are so unique but now I’d say they’re classics and shaped a lot of new music.
Ahh yes. I know this album very well. Really great album, although I think I still prefer the first one a bit more for being more guitar focused. There was a time when this band seemed like their heir apparent to Radiohead, and they're far from it now. Wish they had continued more in this direction rather than going full commercial pop, but oh well. This is still a great album.
Highkirkenuinley one of my favorite bands ever, and this album represents their music perfectly. Beautiful almost heavenly instrumentals while slightly lacking in the lyrical department. The instrumentation alone is enough for this to be a 5, the lyrics can always be better but that was never why you would listen to coldplay. It saddens me that this band has been sort of forgotten by our generation.
Absolutely fantastic record. Truly one of the records of all time. First 5.
Love this album
Loveeeeeeeeeeeeee desde siempre
Amazing, start to finish
Sometimes its hard not to hold what they became against them. Right now they are a virus that needs to be removed from music, soulless, chasing hits, dull, embarrassing This is none of those things. This is brilliant which makes it even more frustrating
A modern classic I guess, these days. The album that put them into the big league with a superior set of songs to a Parachutes and some tracks that still dominate their sets today
Good album
odlican album svakako sam znala nekoliko pesama i uzivala sam u njima, prelepo popodne utroseno s mojom cimikom
Classic Coldplay.
Forgot how much I love this album.
Alright, once again coming into an album with some pre-conceived notions. I wanted to bin this off because of how mainstream Coldplay were while I was in my formative teenage years - they were my Dads mates favourite band if you know what I mean? They sit in the same headspace for me with Kasabian, The Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol (who I like!) etc as that kind of British, radio-friendly Dad Rock that could be a V-Festival headliner and have everyone forget the set immediately afterwards. However; This is a really really good album... Politik is a lovely opening track - the wiki for it being "Chris Martin wrote "Politik" on 11 September 2001, having been inspired by that day's terrorist attacks" is such a funny way of framing it though Was going to write that In My Place is a kinda British zeitgeist song but that'll also apply for The Scientist and Clocks so that's really a reflection on how well received this album was God Put a Smile upon Your Face - yeah banger fair play The Scientist - special place in my heart for this as we recorded a cover of it as part of our A-Level music tech course (ageing myself here) but it is a gorgeous song. Martin's lyrics are lovely - "questions of science, science and progress/do not speak as loud as my heart/but tell me you love me, come back and haunt me/oh and I rush to the start" obviously a standout track if not for the IMMEDIATE NEXT ONE Clocks - that fucking piano intro man, i've got goosebumps and I DON'T LIKE COLDPLAY. the offbeat snare synching up to the keys later. this is some iconic arena rock. checking the wiki, it has 16 citations on various greatest songs of all time lists. yeah fair enough Coldplay, you smashed it with this one. getting into the second half of the album, the half with zero blue links on wiki so interested to hear how this pans out Daylight - that 2.29 dropout is so smooth, there's lots going on in the latter half of this track, the piano line is great but there's something new to pick out each time i listen - special shoutout to whoever was the studio engineer because that piano is just beaut Green Eyes - now this is a shame, it could be a really good song but it doesn't suit Coldplay at all! it doesn't need the reverb, it doesn't need the band behind it, it doesn't need the clean guitar sound. this is a folk rock track waiting in the wings and I wouldn't be surprised to find like 50 covers of it on youtube that give more heart and soul and MEANING to this. the first real disappointment on the album for me unfortunately. admittedly the last minute does the jangly riff driven folky stuff really well (that Mumford & Sons will jump on and popularise later in the decade) Warning Sign - revisit A Whisper - yooo, what are we doing with the time signature here. you're telling me Coldplay made THIS? another standout for me, really really good A Rush of Blood - revisit Amsterdam - again, the piano is just wonderful, Martin showing off his range and while some notes seem like a struggle to hit, it adds to the charm of the song. A surprising album closer, but the organ - damn just got hit with the rest of the band lmao
Fave song: the scientist
I accidentally slept through one of the songs, but unless it was terrible this was like a really really good album. Like much stronger than I was expecting from them, I actually really connected to a couple of the songs here. It made me want to listen to more Coldplay. Favorites: In My Place, A Whisper, A Rush of Blood to the Head
Unfortunately I absolutely love this shit. A Rush of Blood to the Head and Amsterdam were bangers back when I was in middle school and I still love it.
I am a Coldplay Stan admittedly. 2 all time epic songs, 2 more massive hits. Even the deeper cuts are written well...hard not to give this a 5.
Underrated somehow - I think the hate comes from the reaction to latter day Coldplay. Clocks is an all timer, Amsterdam is stunning, the mood on this album is just next level
Some absolute hits and everything listenable, I remember being blown away by this album when it dropped, and it's aged pretty well.
Lovvvveeee me some Coldplay!!
i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry
One of my fave albums
Coldplay gets an unfair rap because they kind of got stuck in a bit of a rut, but at their peak - and this album is their peak - they were an unstoppable force. Banger after banger after banger, this album doesn't have a weak moment. Is it going back in my normal rotation? No. But will I listen the shit out of any of these songs should they start playing somewhere? You're goddamn right I will.
Music that makes 17 year olds nostalgic and world weary. One of arts signal achievements is to let you feel your feelings - Coldplay are cringe because they're so good it it. Pure pop that absorbed all the moves of britpop and 90s indie to meld into anthemic, overwhelming, over produced versions of the same tried and true chord progressions with huge hooks, big dumb chorus lines belting out tried and true lines: I love you, I miss you, you're good...it's so embarrassing how well it works, but suspending that feeling, succumbing, and letting it work... it does
Got hit with such a nostalgic hit with this album, in the best way possible, even though i only knew about 5 songs.
This album is captivating. I barely have any words. You're instantly drawn into its magic just from the album title alone. I wish Coldplay was insatiable like this again. (They might be, but I'm ill-informed). Favorite(s): God Put A Smile Upon Your Face; A Rush of Blood to the Head
Listened to this one twice to cleanse myself of the K*d R*ck album. This whole album is truly immaculate. I wish I could listen to this again for the first time, but I'm grateful I can keep listening to it over and over (and over and over) again.
This is an album I listen to constantly. I wouldn't say I'm a big Coldplay fan (Maybe I am lol) but this one and Parachutes are maybe 2 of my top 50 of all time. I think clocks, while overplayed, is a masterpiece. To me every song serves a purpose. Politik is a great opener, The scientist is another highlight, and the title track really resonates with me as well. 5/5 love this one.
Love this album.
1. Politik 2. In My Place 3. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face 4. The Scientist 5. Clocks 6. Daylight 7. Green Eyes 8. Warning Sign 9. A Whisper 10. A Rush of Blood to the Head 11. I didn't realize how influential this album was on kid me until this relisten 25 years later
This is one of my favorites from my teens. Perfect opener thru to a perfect closer
A classic before the money took over.
Might be only album from my listening history on this list
I felt absolutely enveloped by this album. Like I could have died and gone to a different place and wouldn’t have known until it ended. Maybe this was just my era but I absolutely love early Coldplay
Great album I listened to a lot when I was younger, kind of boring and simple on re listens but that’s the magic of its appeal that shot Coldplay to superstardom. Amazing how many memorable songs and singles came out of this album. It’s not as good as their peers of the era, but you can’t deny it’s appeal
This album is the bridge between good Coldplay (first album) and bad Coldplay (everything after). A few songs in the middle are skippable, and Clocks was/is overplayed, but the album starts strong and ends strong.
Forgot how good they actually were
Classic
I love this album. I always have. I miss the time when Coldplay was profound and poetic. 10/10
I tried to make a joke about the band but this album would not laugh at it. 5/5
Classic Coldplay album, love it
140/1089 Clocks is still such a stunning song, one of the most euphoric songs ever made imo and is kind of exemplary of Coldplay’s best i’ve now had both Coldplay albums on this list within this last week and even though i already knew i love some of their singles (particularly from Mylo Xyloto and Head full of Dreams), i think i’m realising i like them more than i thought this was a really good album, i’ll def be returning faves: Politik, In My Place, Clocks, Daylight, Warning Sign, A Rush of Blood to the Head 83/100
Those first few tracks took me back to a time when I absolutely loved some of the songs on here. It’s not a 5 star album but I’m giving it top marks for nostalgia alone.
This brings back great memories, Clocks, In My Place, The Scientist... all bangers! I remember the first time I heard Clocks: early morning around 05:30 am on 3FM while doing my paper route as a teenager. Giel played it as a promo before the album dropped. Love at first hearing
Great memories of this album following my home town football club across the country as they strived towards promotion to the football league. Coldplay’s 2nd album (closely and my favourite (closely followed by Parachutes)which projected the band towards the big stadium band they are today. My like of them declined after this album as they steered more towards pop and commercial success but that’s show business!
Absolute filled to the brim with classics. I probably prefer this to parachutes. If only they kept it at this..

Holds up well. Several excellent songs. I would consider it as good as Parachutes and probably a couple of the songs are objectively better. Very little of the self-absorbed, self-important preachy feeling from the later albums in this one. Solid 5 for me.
You can consider me a representative of a non-traditional sexual orientation or just someone with shit taste, but I like Coldplay, especially their first two albums. Even though I prefer the first album more, I'd still give the second one 5 stars.
Wat een vet album. Dit is wat mij betreft de essentie van Coldplay en heel erg jeugdsentiment.
honestly banger after banger clocks and the scientist are well deserved hits not my typical music but very pleasant to listen to
Is liking Coldplay the coolest thing about me? Honestly…maybe. You can say what you want about this band, but this (and its partner first album) are truly great and arrived at a time when popular music desperately needed to be steered in another direction. Maybe laughable now - and maybe then. Who knows? But I like it and I stand by it.
Album 100. What a great one!
Incredibly nostalgic and soothing. My favourites: Politik, In My Place, Daylight, A Whisper, Amsterdam
One of my favorites
Favoritas: Politik (QUE OPENER), In My Place, Clocks, A Rush of Blood to the Head, Amsterdam
Genre: Post-Britpop God damn I love this album. Better than their debut, which is saying something, and easily their best, brightest musical statement as a band. The hits absolutely hit, the deep cuts cut deep, and the overall sound and energy throughout this record was so refreshing at the time. Amsterdam is one of my favorite album finales ever. Politik is one of my favorite openers ever. The meat of the sandwich is just as enjoyable as the delicious bread pressing it together. A wonderful album from some lovely Brits. 5/5
NOT an early Coldplay hater!
I think I like "Parachutes" a little better than this album, but I stll believe it deserves a place in my Tidal library.
Old school Coldplay er fortsatt veldig bra.
This is it: the review one of you have been waiting for. 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' was my number two album of 2002 (behind Blackalicious's 'Blazing Arrow') and it's still great. The album has monster hits that were overplayed but it's best track is it's first (and a non-single). This album flows together well and I have good memories of listening to it while cranking out a late night paper. Top tracks: "Politik," "God Put a Smile upon Your Face," "In My Place," "The Scientist," "Daylight"
Their best album has one of the best album sides ever.
Bad company who I did write a review for are a mixture of cheese laded rock for people who love chicks and potential to have been so much more, a very good voice let down by shit song writing. Coldplay suffer from U2 syndrome where a good band get slagged of for doing nothing wrong. They are superb song writers who deserve respect
Album bellissimo. Tutte tracce iconiche, incredibili, non so come descriverle. Se i coldplay si fossero fermati lí oggi sarebbero una band di culto per tutti invece hanno proseguito e mo pure chi non capisce un cazzo di musica li ascolta.
vabbè
Perfeito
Always loved this album despite the personal press. It was great to revisit it.
Great album.
Great music, especially the scientist and clocks are great, but some of the songs I didnt know yet surprised me too
Neck to neck with Parachutes as the best Coldplay album.
Say what you will about the current state of Coldplay, but the first few records they made were proper good. This will hardly be an unbiased review. Maybe not my personal favourite album of theirs, but when I look through the tracklist its hard not to like it. 'In My Place', 'Clocks', 'The Scientist' counts among their best songs to me, and 'Green Eyes' is also very good. Then you have a slightly weaker, but still very good, ones like 'Politik' and 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'. The rest, of which there are a handfull, no doubt, tie it together decently, but are not that interesting to me. While it's hard to see Coldplay in any other light than commercial and poppy, I still think this is unique and cool enough to be a really good record before they became completely radio-lized. There are good hooks and chord progressions, and I (though maybe an outlier) really like Chris Martin's singing. Was trying to decide between a strong 4 and a 5... it feels a bit cheeky giving the same band too many 5 stars for their albums, but at the same time I also enjoy this loads more than 90% of what's on this list. And as I said, this wouldn't be biased. So 5 stars it is, though a weak one.
Ah, the music of my teens and early twenties. Coldplay get a lot of hate nowadays, and maybe they did back then too. While I think the haters have a point these days, this is actually a very solid album. I’m quite biased, though, since I was (and am?) a big fan of it during my formative years. The hits alone are instantly recognizable and somewhat era-defining. Both “The Scientist” and “Clocks” have those unmistakable piano intros. “In My Place” is another big hit — and a total bop. Some of the lesser-known tracks deserve a mention too: I think “Green Eyes” is one of the better “simple love songs” out there, while “A Rush of Blood to the Head” and “Amsterdam” both helped me through some heartache. Honestly, the only duds I found on this record are “Warning Sign” and “A Whisper,” and neither are egregious. It’s simple, piano-driven pop, but it doesn’t feel fake. I get that some people find it subpar, but maybe they should remember what being in your teens and early twenties is all about. Probably Coldplay’s strongest album.
Awesome album
A no-skip! Will listen to this again easily. Such a cohesive album and feels so unique to the band. Love how dynamic the individual songs are. Also sick album art. Favorite songs are The Scientist and Amsterdam, but honorable mentions to Clocks and Green Eyes.
This album is great. I never thought I would say this, but I miss "this" Coldplay.
Loved it
We all know this is a fantastic, iconic album
Great album all tracks
(91/100)
It was lovely.
Really amazing album. One of the best
Top Pop
It really creates such a mood for me. Not always the mood I want, but it reminds me of riding my bike through empty London streets at 4am.
The OG Coldplay so masterful.
I haven't to this whole album in a long time. Obviously, it has some of the most recognizable songs on the planet. Beyond that, I was actually surprised who good the rest of the album was. I know people like to shit on Coldplay, but all the albums up to and including Viva La Vida are beautiful. This is no exception.
Ah this takes me back. Early Coldplay was excellent, and this is a great album. It's thoughtful and damn well written. Best songs for me (sorry to be basic) are The Scientist, Clocks, and In My Place.
I enjoyed pre success Coldplay
Staple from my high school days Scientist Clocks
best album so far in this project every song was really relaxing
A bit melancholy, but one of my favorite albums.
No notes
Beautiful and nostalgic. Coldplay always brings out my sappiest tendencies
Perfect
It’s great
The 1st album is 5 stars. This is 4.5 so I’ll generously round up.
I will die on the hill that Coldplay's first two albums are genuinely great and should be judged independently of the artist's name. Don't ask me about their last two albums.
If Coldplay made albums like this, I can forgive what they made later
Great album.and fab memories :)
I dont like this band much feel its overrated but this album after not listening to it for a while I can say its a top 5 album of the decade. Perfection. Song setting the pace one after another and a roller coaster of up and down emotions with Chris Martins versatile voice inflection and pace leading the way for the music to burst and take you all in
Reading through some reviews of this album and Parachutes, I'm learning that some people really hate Coldplay, and that's really surprising to me. 2000s Coldplay are like perfected pop music. And I guess that's kind of why they're hated? That they're built to dominate radio and get really popular really fast, which probably ends up with them getting overplayed some. I don't really fully get it, but I'm a Coldplay believer. I don't think this album is supposed to be particularly memorable. It's not something that should stand out because of how unique it is (unless you're talking about Chris Martin's voice specifically). It is, however, idealized radio music. Everything on this album is easy listening, and the album is also deep, and by that I mean that there aren't really any bad songs on the album. I like Parachutes more than this album, but this is still an incredible follow-up that fully stands out on its own. Favorite Song(s): God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist, Clocks, Warning Sign
Day580 - i was excited to get this album when it was released and it was so good. the cd came with a live concert recording that we played constantly so that’s a good memory
Coldplay's second album, which embraces more of a soft rock/ arena filling sound than Parachutes. I can't help but like it despite the slightly obvious move towards greater commercial appeal. Chris Martin's vocals are strong and easy to listen to, and showcased nicely on some of these songs. There's some mixing up of the sound too, the weird distorted strings (or whatever they are) on Daylight are a bit different while we also go from piano led songs in Clocks and The Scientist to a purely acoustic guitar led track in Green Eyes. Not groundbreaking but it's a consistent album of solid tracks. You could probably lose Whisper and I don't think anyone would mind, but other than that it's all good A nod for Amsterdam too, one of their most underrated songs and a very nice closer
A very refined and well thought out album - maybe Coldplay's best. They really nailed down the song formula of starting small and ending huge. I can see if you are not in the mood that perhaps some of the piano ballads cliched dynamics and crescendos could be a tad repetitive for some but there are enough top their hits on this album that this wasn't the case for me. I can also understand the criticism of some - if you're looking for a rock record this isn't it, but if you're up for a nostalgic, super-produced landscape of pop hooks and layers A Rush of Blood to The Head definitely delivers.
This album doesn't have my favorites on it, but they get brownie points for outing cheating executives.
I hate to give them credit, but I'm going to.
I can see why people like them so much. Great album
These guys were "the biggest band in the world" for a few years after this album came out. And, much like U2 before them, people immediately began dumping on them and anyone who liked them. This is timely because they're in the news again because their concert kiss cam caught a CEO and his VP of HR having an affair. They are like post-Radiohead U2. This is a great album, I don't know why people hate on them...maybe they just got too big. Three solid songs to open the album and I haven't even gotten to my favorite Coldplay song yet. The Scientist is a beautiful song. Clocks was a hit but I never really liked it but listening now, it is much better than I remember. Even the worst songs on this album aren't unlikeable. This album is consistently good with one standout hit. That's pretty good. The back half of the album is decidedly worse than the first half. The title track is a good one though. This is a really good album.
Very good album.
Very very nice album. Although I like their debut album better, but this album is also gorgeous!
Coldplays first three albums are in my opinion one of the strongest debuts of any band. Coldplay are subject to much ridicule nowadays but those first three albums were brilliant and shot them to the stardom they deserve. One travesty is that unless it a late entry the third album X&Y does not make this list. Such a pity as it is one of my all time favourites and a contender for my nomination at the end of the process. This album makes it on the list as just about every track is a crowd pleaser and in the case of tracks such as Clocks, The Scientist and Politik instantly recognisable classics. I always know when an album means a lot to me because I can usually remember where I bought it. In this case it was Morrison’s Supermarket, Morley having nipped in one evening whilst at work and grabbed it as it was a supermarket bargain. The grandeur of this album belies the inauspicious circumstances of me obtaining the album. 5/5 26/7/25
Early ‘aughts classic
listen, i love coldplay and i'm not even sorry. i don't love all coldplay and i especially don't love the more recent things but THIS album, come on. this is a GREAT album. it is just banger after banger. politik. the title track. all the singles. AMSTERDAM??? my memory of this album is listening to it in the back of the car on a cd walkman (lmao) on a family holiday in france. i was 14 and it was the early noughties and it wasn't (that) uncool to like coldplay yet, peep show hadn't come out yet so there was no quote from super hans to bring up every time someone mentions coldplay, it was a simpler time.
Peak Coldplay, amazing
Finally [[Coldplay]] with Clocks.
Fuck yes! Love me some Coldplay. Had to pop on my old CD copy of this terrific album. I don’t care what the haters say, Coldplay is always a joy to listen to. Which sounds weird because most of their shit is sort of sad and depressing, but they always seem to squeeze one or two upbeat tracks onto their albums to turn those frowns upside down. Was lucky enough to catch these guys live back around 09-10. The only band that’s even come close to matching the positive vibes of a Flaming Lips show.
This was one of first albums I ever bought. First 5 or 6 it doesn’t really miss a beat. Does eek out a bit at the end but still a nostalgic 5
Maybe it’s nostalgia talking, but A Rush of Blood to the Head is a great album from start to finish. Every track holds up; it's emotional, well-crafted, and memorable. It might just be Coldplay’s last truly great album. It’s a shame one joke from The 40-Year-Old Virgin did more damage to the band’s reputation than any of their actual music. This record deserves better.
4.5/5
I think this is a great album. Sounds great, and the songs are just beautiful. It is a bit frontloaded, but there's not a bad song here. "Politik" is an incredible opener, and other standouts include "In My Place", "The Scientist", "Clocks", and "Warning Sign". 5 stars.
Phenomenal superstar-making second album from the Coldplay clan. Parachutes as a debut was great but here they step up the consistency and quality of their songwriting a further notch and create a true blockbuster for the ages where every track is amazing, every track is a stunner. On A Rush Of Blood To The Head, Coldplay do ascend to the top of Mount Olympus and become the Zeus of searing, heartfelt, starry indie and soft rock balladry with timeless hits such as In My Place, Clocks and The Scientist, stellar strength in depth such as Green Eyes, Warning Sign, Amsterdam and the title track plus crashing, 9-11 inspired opener Politik and hugely fine, hypnotic deep cuts like Daylight and A Whisper. In terms of sheer overall magnificence it is like Abbey Road, Rumours, OK Computer, Thriller, Songs In The Key Of Life Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here and the good parts of Beatles White Album all whisked into one. 5+
My interest in Coldplay dropped off around Mylo Xyloto but their first four albums were a solid run; I don't put them on very often anymore, but I still enjoy them. I'd rank A Rush of Blood at #2 (I think X&Y would be my #1; looks like that one missed the 1,001 cut). It's good throughout, but some standouts are "Politik," "The Scientist" (an all-timer, more than likely Coldplay's best track), and "Clocks." Sometimes I do feel unsatisfied by the opaqueness of most Coldplay's lyrics - few of their songs ever seem to me to be about anything concrete. Instead they seem more focused on delivering texture; you bring your own thoughts and emotions to project onto them.
A day-one album with zero skips. I remembered almost every lyric on the first listen this morning, which makes sense when I think about the hours I spent in the mid-2000s learning Clocks, The Scientist, and Green Eyes on piano/guitar. Huge influence on my own songwriting. Hard to overstate how seismic this music was for me and my friends. As much as I roll my eyes at the current place Coldplay occupies in the culture, A Rush of Blood to the Head holds up so well, and it’s clear to me much it shaped my adult taste in music.
GOD
The first 6 tracks are fantastic and for that alone the album is a 4.5 for me. I'm bumping to 5 ... is that crazy? This is an all timer for me and one of the greatest albums ever? I guess? Such an easy listen even if the last 2 tracks are a bit limp.
Look, sorry, Coldplay is my favourite band. Though this isn't my favourite album of theirs - that's "Viva la Vida" - I still think AROBTTH is a really strong album. There are so many iconic Coldplay tracks on this album (e.g., "The Scientist" and "Clocks"), and the sequence of the first five tracks is such an incredible run. For me, I dislike "A Whisper" and "Daylight", which I think are two of the worst Coldplay tracks ever, but it also has some of my favourites, in "In My Place", "GPASUYF", and the title track. I also love, love, love the album cover, and I think it's one of the best album covers in existence. This album is really a 4.5 for me, but I've cried too many times to "The Scientist" for it to only be a 4.5.
great music for CEOs cheating on their wives. in all seriousness, a lot of people seem to hate this kind of emotional, piano driven soft rock (post-britpop?) but it really works for me for whatever reason. I generally prefer keane, but this album is a surprisingly nice listen from a band I find way overhated. favorite song: "the scientist" overall: 9/10
One of the best Alternative Rock albums of all time. Post-Britpop wouldn’t get any better. Coldplay began their takeover of world’s biggest band from U2 with Parachutes. Rush of Blood proved it wasn’t a fluke.
Man, such a nostalgic album for me. I think I previously commented on Hybrid theory that it was the first good music that I enjoyed, Coldplay was pretty contemporary with that. But I can thank John, my brother, for getting into Coldplay because of his interest in piano. I was trying to think of what made this so good at the time that it came out, and I don't have a smoking gun answer. Chris Martin did take the singer/songwriter form and made it rock. What's interesting about Coldplay is that they used elements: synth and distortion, that had been explored by other bands in rock genres to push out more extreme sounds but Coldplay felt like the pendulum swinging back inwards to approaching these elements with a softer touch. Basically, what if a singer/songwriter sang about love and used a synth to compliment the piano? Then what if they had a rock band that knew when to go heavy and when to keep it soft? Alright, then apparently you will have a band with generational sound.
Growing up my dad had an old iPod that I would sequester whenever my brother and I stayed at his house. I didn’t like all the music on it and would instead listen to 6 albums over and over and over again - cycling through them for hours. This album was one of the 6 and will always be important to me.
Absolutely bleak and dreary, not really a weak song. Amazing alt rock.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. The vocals are so beautiful!
Classic
I haven't listed to this in 25years! What a great chilled out album. Brings back so many memories
Still an excellent album. The Scientist remains my favorite track.
Coldplay siempre esta bien
Coldplay's second album is also their best, taking everything that made their debut great and amplifying it even further. Every song here is built on a very simple idea, either a short riff or a hook, which is then expanded in such a way as to maximize its memorability. The atmosphere, however, differs a lot from the previous record. Where that album was cozy and intimate, this sounds grandiose and spacey, something the band would continue to explore on their subsequent, increasingly maximal releases. Coldplay get a lot of hate, most of it undeserved. Maybe it's because of their mass appeal or Chris Martin's overly sweet, doofy sincerity. Of course, there are some real stinkers in their discography, but there are many more gems, and this is one of them. Key tracks: Politik In My Place God Put a Smile Upon Your Face The Scientist Clocks Daylight Green Eyes Warning Sign A Rush of Blood to the Head
Perfect
Very quickly I knew how many stars I was going to give...
Coldplay's best album. I won't change my mind.
This is awesome and part of my Top100.
5/5
4,5/5 Why do so many people in the reviews hate Coldplay? I might not be a fan, but I definitely appreciate the album.
My relationship with Coldplay is a love-hate one. I'm sick of them. But this album? Love it. The singles I know from the radio are pretty great but the songs I didn't know before are even better. They have these shoegaze-y guitars that I'd never associate with Coldplay.
Admittedly I am sometimes overly susceptible to the opinion of others coloring my judgement on bands a bit too much. Coldplay, from what I've seen and heard, have been on a arc similar to U2, where they are a great band that makes great music, but almost have "too" much reach, and have become a overdisliked, overhated, and for me personally are now on the other end of that arc, where I am re-listening to their music and really loving it. Don't get me wrong though, I've always liked their music, but maybe not as such a publicly staunch listener. I'm just listening more intently now as I'm a little older. On to the songs. "In My Place" is a nice 7.8/10 pop banger, that is super approachable and easy to get and enjoy. It's a bit too clean for my tastes, but I'm not surprised it had a lot of time spent on pop hit radio for the time. "The Scientist" is an enchanting piano driven ballad, with a fantastic smooth melody that hangs with the piano chords so sublimely. I love how straightforward the lyrics are; there isn't a ton of poetry, "Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry you don't know how lovely you are" "nobody said it was easy it's such a shame for us to part oh take me back to the start" , but I find these to be really endearing. Sometimes relationships are all poetry and butterflies and sometimes they are plain and straight to the point. "Clocks" is my favorite Coldplay song and I don't think it's even a particularly close race. That piano line that switches between major and minor chords is so grand. It's larger than life. The whole intro is great- I love the reverb on the piano, the bass part throws some tension in on only it's second measure, and the drumbeat is perfect. If "The Scientist" is more straightforward, then this one is the contrast to that. I love the lyrics in this song, and it does something that I often find myself really wanting more of in music- a concept where you have some lyrics that are a bit ambiguous and vague, but then it gives you lines that mention something very tangible and real. "Oh, I beg, I beg and plead Singin' come out of things un said Shoot an apple off my head And a trouble that can't be named A tiger's waiting to be tamed, singin'" "Confusion that never stops Closing walls and ticking clocks Gonna come back and take you home I could not stop that you now know Singin' come out upon my seas Cursed missed opportunities Am I a part of the cure Or am I part of the disease? Singin'" These are my favorite kind of lyrics. Just vague enough that anyone can connect and find their own meanings in them, but also real enough that it's connected to the real world. To me this song resonates with the idea that actively engaging in mindfulness and "spending" time getting lost in something are often two conflicting concepts. Being mindful of a moment and taking it in is great, and makes you appreciate something; but also getting lost in something and forgetting that time exists is also just as wonderful. For me this is a solid 5/5, and I think "Clocks" is one of the best pop-rock tracks to come out since 2000. This is a great record and is up there with some other great records that came out in 2002 (quite the competition!): Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco, Sea Change by Beck, The Eminem Show by Eminem, Kill the Moonlight by Spoon, One by One by Foo Fighters, American IV by Johnny Cash.
Can’t really go wrong with Coldplay. Lots of people say they are overrated, but they are talented, have a distinct sound, and know how to make hits. They are great at evoking emotions.
I know people will hate Coldplay, but the piano playing and the level of beauty to these songs makes them brilliant. Whilst this album is brilliant in my eye, it is their only brilliant album and they just got worse year on year after this. My favourite tracks on this are actually mostly the album tracks rather than the singles, Green Eyes and Amsterdam are great.
Omg… I have to start checking this more often. Blast from the past. Love Cold Play. Big hits in the 2000’s I think. Wow, thanks.
This was the album of my summer holiday in 2002. Coldplay perfected their early sound of introspective piano driven post Radiohead Brit rock and it’ll get 5 stars from me
I had high hopes going into this one. I already know The Scientist and Clocks and I’m very fond of those songs. I’ve also seen Coldplay live and considering the fact that I wouldn’t call myself a big fan, the concert was amazing and I really do enjoy their music. I was unfamiliar with the rest of the songs on this album but after first listen I really liked almost all of them. This album didn’t disappoint. Very chill though, not many upbeat tracks but still very enjoyable. I think it’s possible that I may either rate this slightly or higher in the future, as I again didn’t properly digest, I just went off of kinda my subconscious vibes. 80/100
I never understand the hate on Coldplay until their newer stuff came out that just didn't compare with their earlier work like this album. The Scientist and Clocks are the songs I know best and really like both. I remember so many promos were cut using Clocks. It's such an epic and beautiful song that can leave you with goosebumps. Others I enjoyed on this album were Politik, God Put A Smile On My Face (did not sound like a traditional Coldplay song, which was refreshing), Daylight, Amsterdam (I was just there!). Honestly there aren't any low points here. And I feel like with repeated listens this could grow on me more and more. I'd score this as a low 5. The album has 2 strong singles (Scientist & Clocks), a lot of other good songs, and has an uplifting feel/theme to it. It's probably their best album and I think it is deserving of a strong score.
So I know they're a widely clowned on group but I always liked them, maybe because I'm only familiar with their older stuff. Thought maybe my opinion would change having not listened for ages, but no this 2nd album is still excellent. 7 of the 11 songs are hits and the other 4 don't drag the album down.
This is a whole era of feelings dressed in minor chords and gentle existential panic. Listening now, I felt an urge to go back in a time and see this show live in 2002... back when Chris Martin was still charming Barbara Walters with unfinished piano sketches and emotional restraint was just a suggestion.
This is a cheat because it is another favorite. Great listen front to back including one of my all-time favorite songs, Warning Sign
One of the most formative albums for me. Coldplay never done anything that compares to this since then
I’ll admit I haven’t listened recently to this one in order to review it but it was going to get a 5. Outstanding songs the whole way through
This one checks a lot of boxes, all great songs, meant a lot to me at the time it came out etc. Not sure that elevates it to 5 stars but I'm going there anyway
It has some cool songs on it.
Coldplay has very distinct sound between the instruments used and cord progressions. Good playlist for just sitting and thinking. It's a bit sad/mellow but in a good way. For me it almost seems to be a reflection of atheists trying to figure out the patterns of the universe; lots of confusion, curiosity, and questioning. If I had to choose a color for this album, it would be green. I love the titular song of the album. Last song in the album reminds me of knocking on heaven's door for some reason. Well album #1 is done. Cheers! Only 1000 to go...
I think if I had heard this album for the first time in my 40's, I probably wouldn't be very impressed beyond the pretty music and arrangements -- But 18 was the perfect age to hear it. Several songs on this album "blew my mind" at the time, probably because most of the lyrics are pretty universal and suitably vague, allowing you to paint your own colors and interpretations -- but that's why I think this is a great album. I still enjoy putting it on and letting my mind wander. Fond memories of learning "The Scientist" on a crappy old keyboard in college. 5 - All-time classic
Excellent, a nostalgic flow of hits to dream away
This album!!!! 😭❤️ We had this album at home and I overplayed it to death. Every single song is so good! You've got the underrated songs like Politik and Green Eyes, and 4 big singles. The Scientist is 5 star worthy itself Clocks was one of the first songs I learnt to play on piano, and one of the songs that inspired me to take lessons. This album just takes me back to a very specific time in my life. Hits me right in the feels I feel like people pre judge Coldplay based off what they hear on the radio - but I think this is their best album 5 ⭐️
You can be as snobby as you like about Coldplay, but this is stone cold banger after stone cold banger. Their best album in my opinion, none of the stadium pop shite that they’ve done in the last 20 years or so. I like that pure melancholic indie. I appreciate the hypocrisy of stating that you shouldn’t be snobby about them and then proceeding to be snobby. And what do I know anyway, it’s proved pretty lucrative for them. Also saw them at Glastonbury playing a set of said stadium pop and had a whale of a time. I’d had about 10 cans of Carling and some chicken wine though, so not sure I could be objective. Simpsons: Yes
Could not Stream it.
Coldplay used to be a really good band, making pretty terrific pop-rock albums. Sadly their albums now suck, a streak of shittiness that started with 2014’s Ghost Stories. But this album here, 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head, is their creative peak. A modern day classic in my opinion.
i really like how brits play rock, i can hear how rock 80-90e affect this artist. And i like it.
Their epic, almost all my favourite Coldplay songs are from this album
Shoutout julie
Nostalgia vibes
Pure greatness, Chris Martin is so brilliant and everything around it is so beautiful. All of the hits are incredible and backed by such sweet and softer tracks put so well. It's not the first album, but Coldplay at its best.
No Warning Sign here. This one took me right Into My Place. If you listen to this you’ll know why God Put a Smile Upon Your Face.
what a nice album. Very creative ways to use time old melodies and sounds. Specially how it was recorded. Sounded very crude. Some parts of some songs sound like you are hearing it live. With all the crisp and wisp. Very nice. I like all the ambiance melodies to rapid building to climax. Coldplay does this formula perfectly.
So many good songs on this album, plus the interplay of piano and electric is different than most music, thus making it a joy to listen to.
I partially understand the hate but as someone who has listened to Coldplay most of my life I enjoyed it a lot
I've listened to this album several times before and it still holds up. There is not a single bad song on this album and I will die on this hill. Coldplay does not deserve all the hate that they get for some reason. Sure, any album past Mylo Xyloto is questionable at best, but everything up to and including that album is amazing. Just beautiful, they sound great, everything is great. I'm convinced that the people who hate on this and Coldplay in general are incapable of having fun and are the same people with sticks up their buts who think Radiohead and Public Image Ltd. are God's gift to music and going to save music from itself.
yes, some of the tracks follow the same "pic a simple hook, refrain, build" but it works for them. the blending of instruments, sounds, and harmonies are great.
Folks didn’t give these guys enough credit back in the day
Surprisingly, really great album -- I think my opinion was damaged by the lower quality of music they put out AFTER this album.
So good
So many iconic songs
Eine der besten Platten - ever! Da war die Band auf ihrem Höhepunkt.
This album is a timeless classic that effortlessly combines pop and rock aesthetics into a cohesive experience that keeps you hooked for days. Many tracks will still linger in your mind due to the catchy melodies, captivating vocals and great production. I particularly enjoy that the songs are very approchable but still have so much depth to them. I think it is an essential Coldplay album and perhaps one of their best even if it was often seen as a derivative of Radiohead. I think many of the tracks bring a lot of their own ideas with a solid identity. My biggest critique would be that the second half is a bit weaker but only because the first half of the album has consistent bangers after bangers which became complete classics.
Old Coldplay was my introduction to good music as a teenager, and I am forever in debt :)
This was such an influential band and album, during those formative teenage years.
I remember this playing all the time. Reminds me of the early 2000s.
