Reviews (page 6 of 14)

One of the first albums I had on my iPod, I used to really love Coldplay. This album and Parachutes are great. And while its still pop rock here, it's not nearly as dreadful as their post Viva la Vida work that really turned me off to them as a group. My favorites are In My Place, Clocks, and Green Eyes, though The Scientist is very good too. It's one of my gateways to softer rock and it helped me be more reflective on music when I was younger.

Goshdarnit, I’m so angry, I admit it, this is a pretty good album. I went in with a negative bias thinking I wouldn’t like it due to it being played to death. But. Then. The opening few guitar notes of In My Place begrudgingly turned me around. This album gets a mildly resentful just barely four stars. How did this happen?

Rock alternativo. Algún megahit. Venga, un 4.

coldplay

Dont think I’ve ever listened through this album in full. Its not Parachutes but much better than expected, easy listening.

Not a fan of Coldplay but I would definitely say their earlier material is their best work and this album is actually very good. Every song from this album used to get radio play back in the day and in my opinion is their best album. Definitely worthy of a place in 1001 albums

Good tunes

Classic album

Definitely could be higher on more listens, but at this point. there is something missing. Update better on more listens!

Rock Pop

the last good of them

Coldplay's fun. And enjoying their music is infinitely more fun than hating on it - though I know many would disagree. They soundtracked my middle-school years so I'm more than a bit biased on the topic...but anyways. As an album, this one's pretty damn good though I generally prefer 'Viva La Vida...'. Songs like 'Politik', 'In My Place', 'Green Eyes', and especially the title track are damn near flawless mellow pop-rock songs. 'The Scientist', however, is a godly song to me. It soundtracked little (11 yr old) me worrying about having to study for a science test or some shit and I related to those scientific metaphors about the confused aftermath of a torn relationship literally. It's dumb as all hell but it doesn't change the fact that it brings a tear to my eyes whenever I hear the song back and start reminiscing. I have many cringe memories when it comes to my relationship with certain songs as a child, but I refuse to make that particular memory one of those. I get it - they're a streamlined 'Radiohead' and slower 'U2', and listening back to this, I agree, but also I just sorta don't care at all. If this blissfully calm, catchy, and melodically sharp album was the zeitgeist of the 2000s mainstream pop-rock scene, then I'd say the 2000s were a damn good decade for the genre.

4.2 - I was never a cool kid, so was never told not to not like them. But I actually think this album is quite far from what the became and it is great

Great Album, so many fantastic songs 4.5

Classic indie-darling era for Coldplay. It’s good! Like softer Radiohead in a way. Not sure of people would agree to that comparison but that’s all I can think of right now.

Ich bin mit diesem Album aufgewachsen, es ist sehr nostalgisch

Great!

Very listenable album in its entirety. Of course "Clocks" is the most recognizable song but many very good. Worth another listen if and when I ever finish this project..

Honestly listened all the way trough this album even if i'm not sure if i like it.

I think Coldplay did something really special here that they were never really able to get away from after their start. The instrumentals and Vocals do such a great job of feeling light and unique for the time. I don't think it's as good as Parachutes, but it's still a banger.

I like Coldplay (Pre 2011). I think many of these songs are really great. Chris Martin is a great singer and the arrangements are layered nicely. Favorite songs were Politik, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist, and A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

I rarely reach for a Coldplay album to play, but whenever I do, I can’t fault it too much. This one is just great. Beautiful arrangements throughout. Only 4 stars as there’s clearly something missing as I’d play them more!!

I'm slowly reevaluating my relationship with Coldplay. I loved Parachutes when it came out and also the singles off this album. I also bought this back in the day and probably listened to it once all the way through. Today probably is the second time I have played it all the way through. Once I had turned off my unconscious bias of the slowly evolving sound into stadium rock, and all the lame trappings that go with it, there is a lot to like. I really enjoyed it, a solid piece of work. A 4 star job

I love Coldplay and I love this album, it’s perfect for any occasion and just gets you thinking

Classic songs

I've completely forgotten that Coldplay at one point managed to be both hard-hitting and sensual at the same time, while staying at the forefront of indie genre-ification (when indie became a genre and not a status descriptor).

A few year ago I would scoff at coldplay. But I've always liked this album and have grown to appreciate them more. There are some great songs in here. There are a couple of songs I would happily skip but yeah it's a strong album 7.5/10

Don't know or care why Coldplay gets hate. I think it's just because it's trendy to dislike the same stuff to show how much better they are- similar to the attitude with pumpkin spice. Fuck em I like this album idgaf. 4/5

I like it

one of the weaker albums by the greatest band in the world...incredibly back loaded somehow 8/10

Excelentes temas, solo se sienten algo desconectados entre sí.

Very strong album with great songwriting and the obvious hits. Hard to believe this is two decades back now. The first half is stronger but the play through holds up and has a consistent flow. 4.5/5

First five songs are a nostalgia nuclear bomb. Rest of the album can't live up to that start, but I ain't mad at it at all. 4/5

Great. Almost 5 but not quite

Though the scientist is a masterpiece, it’s not their best album, so it’s 4

Peaceful

Crazy to think this is one of the albums of my teen years, that Coldplay is a band that will be associated with my youth. This is probably their best work. Clocks, the Scientist... just all time pop songs. Weird to think that Coldplay was at one point one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

Ok. Scientist might tip this one into 3.5 just a bit. Overall Coldplay kind of went too mainstream and outstayed their welcome. But honestly these are good tracks. And The Scientist is a good one.

I have to confess that even though I have gone on record as not liking Coldplay, I really enjoy this album. With the exception of the last two tracks that are an inspid U2-lite style of stadium rock, the rest of the album is pretty brilliant. I love In My Place in all its Echo and The Bunnymen glory and the very haunting The Scientist. Shame at least for me that they evolved into something less interesting to me

I really enjoyed this.

Haven’t really listened to Cold Play much and I really enjoyed it. Love having a strong but not overbearing piano in there!

Loved this album when it came out. It's a little of it's time, slow, but still very enjoyable

Ali-pilled

i put off listening to this one for a rlly long time but fine. coldplay has some good albums. whatever. highlights: politik, the scientist, clocks, a rush of blood to the head (apr 15 2026)

Oh, cool. The other good Coldplay album. I still really love the first two albums. I still really don't care for anything that followed. They did kind of front-load this album with all of the best songs. But it doesn't matter. It's still a memorable album with a great set of songs. Every church band sounded like this for the next 15-20 years.

Best coldplay album

A lot of great songs on this album. A few of them don't have the same impact. But overall it was a solid album

That was actually a lot better than I remember it to be fair. I always thought I liked Parachutes more but now I'm not so sure. This was the start of the end for them though. Songs like "In my place" and "Clocks" typify what went wrong with Coldplay imo - stadium rock songs that on first listen sound so deep but after another couple of listens you realise there's just zero substance to them. Warning Sign the stand out song.

Coldplay is like Radiohead, if they didn't have Jonny Greenwood

## A Rush of Blood to the Head: An In-Depth Review Released on August 26, 2002, Coldplay's sophomore album, *A Rush of Blood to the Head*, marks a significant evolution from their debut, *Parachutes*. This review delves into the album's lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, providing a comprehensive evaluation of its strengths and weaknesses. ### Lyrics **Pros:** 1. **Emotional Depth and Authenticity:** The lyrics in *A Rush of Blood to the Head* are profoundly emotional and introspective. Songs like "The Scientist" and "Warning Sign" explore themes of regret, love, and longing with an honesty that resonates deeply with listeners. 2. **Narrative Strength:** Tracks such as "Amsterdam" and "A Rush of Blood to the Head" tell compelling stories. The former deals with redemption and forgiveness, while the latter delves into a frantic determination to make amends. 3. **Universal Themes:** The album touches on universal human experiences—loss, love, conflict, and hope—making the lyrics relatable to a broad audience. **Cons:** 1. **Occasional Vagueness:** Some lyrics, while evocative, can be somewhat ambiguous or abstract, potentially alienating listeners who prefer more direct storytelling. 2. **Repetitive Themes:** Though the themes are universal, they can sometimes feel repetitive, focusing heavily on romantic and existential angst. ### Music **Pros:** 1. **Dynamic Arrangements:** The album showcases a range of musical dynamics, from the driving, anthemic energy of "Politik" to the delicate, piano-led "The Scientist." This variety keeps the listening experience engaging. 2. **Melodic Strength:** Coldplay's knack for creating memorable melodies is evident throughout. Tracks like "Clocks" and "In My Place" are driven by instantly recognizable piano and guitar riffs that have become iconic. 3. **Instrumental Proficiency:** The band demonstrates significant musical growth, with intricate guitar work from Jonny Buckland, Chris Martin's expressive piano, and a tight rhythm section provided by Guy Berryman and Will Champion. **Cons:** 1. **Lack of Experimental Boldness:** While the music is well-crafted, it rarely ventures into truly experimental territory. The band plays it safe, sticking to a formula that, while effective, can feel predictable. 2. **Occasional Overproduction:** Some tracks, particularly "Daylight" and "A Whisper," can feel overproduced, with layers of sound that sometimes detract from the raw emotional power of the songs. ### Production **Pros:** 1. **Crisp and Polished Sound:** Producer Ken Nelson ensures that each track sounds crisp and polished, with a clarity that highlights the band's musical strengths. 2. **Atmospheric Quality:** The production creates a rich, atmospheric quality, particularly on tracks like "Clocks" and "Green Eyes," which envelop the listener in their soundscapes. 3. **Balanced Mixing:** The album's mix is well-balanced, allowing each instrument and vocal to shine without overwhelming the others. This is particularly evident in the layering of Chris Martin's vocals and Jonny Buckland's guitar. **Cons:** 1. **Homogeneity:** The polished production, while technically impressive, contributes to a somewhat homogeneous sound across the album. There is a risk of tracks blending together for some listeners. 2. **Safe Choices:** The production choices, much like the musical arrangements, tend to err on the side of caution, avoiding the risks that could have pushed the album into more groundbreaking territory. ### Themes **Pros:** 1. **Exploration of Human Emotions:** The album delves deeply into human emotions, examining themes of love, loss, and longing with a sincerity that is both moving and relatable. 2. **Introspection and Reflection:** Many tracks, such as "The Scientist" and "Warning Sign," reflect a sense of introspection and personal reflection, offering listeners a space to explore their own feelings and experiences. 3. **Sociopolitical Undertones:** Songs like "Politik" introduce sociopolitical themes, adding a layer of depth and relevance to the album's emotional core. **Cons:** 1. **Limited Thematic Range:** While the themes are well-explored, they are somewhat limited in range, focusing primarily on personal and emotional experiences rather than broader social or political issues. 2. **Potential for Melancholy:** The introspective and often melancholic nature of the themes can feel heavy at times, potentially making the album less accessible for those seeking more upbeat or diverse subject matter. ### Influence **Pros:** 1. **Critical and Commercial Success:** *A Rush of Blood to the Head* was both a critical and commercial success, winning multiple awards, including the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, and solidifying Coldplay's place in the music industry. 2. **Influence on Contemporary Music:** The album influenced a generation of musicians, particularly in the alternative and indie rock genres. Its melodic focus and emotional depth have been emulated by numerous artists. 3. **Enduring Popularity:** Many tracks from the album, such as "Clocks," "The Scientist," and "In My Place," have remained popular over the years, continuing to receive significant airplay and streaming. **Cons:** 1. **Setting a High Benchmark:** The album set a high benchmark for Coldplay, leading to high expectations for their subsequent work. This has sometimes led to criticism of their later albums, which are often compared to *A Rush of Blood to the Head*. 2. **Dominance of Coldplay's Sound:** The album's success contributed to the dominance of Coldplay's particular sound in the early 2000s, potentially overshadowing other innovative music from the same period. ### Conclusion *A Rush of Blood to the Head* is a landmark album that showcases Coldplay's growth and maturity as a band. Its strengths lie in its emotionally resonant lyrics, dynamic musical arrangements, and polished production. The album's exploration of human emotions and its influence on contemporary music underscore its significance. However, it is not without its flaws. The occasional vagueness in the lyrics, the somewhat homogeneous production, and the lack of bold experimentation may detract from the overall impact for some listeners. Despite these issues, the album's pros far outweigh its cons, solidifying its status as one of Coldplay's most enduring and influential works.

post-britpop, yes!

This is actually a pretty sick album Their musical choices are cool Coldplay itself isn't super special but this is nice lolll

Fav: In My Place Least Fav: Green Eyes

This remains an exquisite album in 2024, it's stood the test of time. Such beautiful melancholy.

They have some really good songs on this but the vibe is pretty low and slow. Rounding up.

Lot of great memories with this one. Every track is solid.

It’s good but not great A poor man’s Radiohead. Like Wal-Mart Tom Cruise. It’s tough to describe how ubiquitous these guys were on the radio in the 2000s. They were the clearest signal to me that life after 2k was going to be worse than the nineties. 50 had a couple jams, but my feeling about the music around the turn of the century was, to crib from Sloan, “Underwhelmed.”

best coldplay album clocks is incredible

Killer record from Coldplay, felt kinda like a movie

I knew every song, they were all good, but had been overplayed in my brain.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is Coldplay's sophomore effort. This is a more intense effort that their first album; it has darker themes and more aggressive arrangements. The album includes some of the band's earlier hits, like "The Scientist" and "In my place." These songs are defined by Chris Martin's strong voice, with rich, full orchestrations in support. Coldplay is the British pop sensation of the early aughts, that they have continued to make interesting, popular music since then. A Rush of Blood to the Head includes on of the band's biggest hits - "Clocks" - perhaps the biggest success of the band's long, successful career.

First half was pretty good and second half meh. I replayed a lot of these songs over because of the ridiculous streaming numbers most of the songs have but they still didn’t click with me. Rating: 3.9

my roomate used to blast these guys constantly, was disappointed spies (a silly, but fun song) was not on this one. Anyway clocks is a pretty good song. Scientist, politik, not bad. I used to do the mazzy star slide part from fade on my bands version of green eyes. It sounds less mazzyish hearing cold play actually do it. Whatever they are dorks, but the albums pretty good.

I enjoyed it. Coldplay is hard to not like.

Coldplay is a bit mid but this album is as good as it gets for them.

Peak Coldplay - although I might like Parachutes a little better. Some songs feel dated now. Still a solid listen.

The smug asshole in me thought that when people said "Coldplay used to be good", they actually meant "I used to have lower standards". Turns out they were right, and I can be a bit of a dickhead.

This was definitely their peak for me.

Inoffensive and emotional songwriting

Excellent vibes, Clocks a classic, very cohesive album that flows well in sequence.

I’ve listened to this album before and there are some great songs on it which still hold up listening 22 years later.

You can hear Coldplay used to be a post rock band. Good post rock band.

Favorite track: Clocks other picks: Daylight, scientist, god put a smile upon your face

A good album. Some great songs on here.

I know hating Coldplay is fashionable, I'm just not sure why. Because they aren't exciting? This album is basically just one great song after another. It doesn't move me the way 5 start albums do, but this is such an easy 4.

Pop rock? Good, catchy, and melancholy A great Coldplay album - hard not to like. Heard a lot of songs from this album, was fun to hear some new ones as well. Liked: the songs lol Disliked: gets a bit too melancholy for me sometimes Production quality: high Listen again: yeah - I mean obviously

Mellow pop

Early Coldplay records are all pretty good, with this one probably being my favourite. I don't like much of what this band have put out recently, but there's no denying they were once trendsetters. The catchy hooks in their early hits like 'In my place' or 'Clocks' still get me to this day. Aside from the bangers, the rest of the album holds up pretty well too. 4 stars

Parachutes will always be my favorite of theirs. Still good, just a close second.

"A Rush of Blood to the Head" by Coldplay is a throwback to the band's old sound that I really pine for. It feels closer to Death Cab for Cutie in terms of instrumentation than I remembered. The album has this acoustic, open presence—definitely not laid-back, but expansive. Not every track fits this mold, but the distinct vocals pull everything together. "Clocks," "The Scientist," and "In My Place" are still bangers. They've still got it, and this album just proves how solid Coldplay was back in the day. If only I could give this five stars, but I couldn't stop thinking about my deep seated reservations concerning Chris Martin.

Better than Parachutes, that's for sure. Coldplay stepped their game with this sophomore album. The hits are really good (especially Clocks) and even some of the non-hits I vibed with. Started losing interest towards the end, though. Overall, a good album.

Coldplay gets a bad rap for being basic soft rock, but I think they have some decent songwriting going on. There's a reason it's such a crowd pleaser. I think this album has enough hits on it to earn it four stars.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is like the equivalent of The Shawshank Redemption on cable TV. I've heard every single song 1 million times, but I don't think I've ever gone cover to cover on this album. It was fun! Other than that is sound 100% like an episode of Scrubs. What can I say about the most popular album of the 2000s? There was nowhere you could escape hearing every song on this record, and frankly, most of them are pretty okay. It's kind of fun listening to this back to back with Radiohead, because it almost feels like the anti-thesis of Radiohead. Like its kind of leaning into that full heavy composition of music, but its so light and poppy. But then it doesn't really ever sound like pop and never really sounds like indie-rock either? Honestly, I have no qualms with this record. Its absolutely fine as it is. It doesn't age super well, because it just sounds exactly like a moment in time. And a good moment in time it was.

STANDOUTS: In My Place The Scientist Clocks Green Eyes OVERALL: 3.5/5; some enjoyable songs BUT a lot of filler. at least they're not screaming at me, though.

It alright

Classic album but imo the 1st half is way stronger than the 2nd

While Coldplay of late has been criticized for having a more commercial pop sound, this album is a terrific display of their potential in the pop/alt-rock landscape. This record ranges from more sensitive, vulnerable tracks like “The Scientist”, “God Put A Smile Upon Your Face”, and “Clocks”, to more of the alternative spectrum with “In My Place”, “Daylight”, and “ Amsterdam”(the latter half in particular). All my favorite bands share that characteristic of being able to balance harder rock songs and softer ballads, so this was a very enjoyable listen for me. Musically, the actual instrumentation can be on the more basic side especially when accompanying Chris Martin’s wonderful singing voice, but other than that, this album is definitely on my re-listen radar. 7.5/10 in my place god put a smile upon your face the scientist clocks daylight amsterdam 7/10

Coldplay is a great band. Not only that but I had an opportunity to listen up close to a concert and they are really good at the live shows. They put themselves out there and it shows. I think this is a very good representation of them if someone were to be introduced. I think I would rate a greatest hits album probably five stars and a "regular" album well...

Incredible songs, sad but impactful, found new songs I didn’t know they did that I know really enjoy

Early Coldplay were really just so good. This is a fantastic album, I can’t give it a full five because I don’t love all of it, but very solid.

Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head are the albums that really made Coldplay important, even if they eventually devolved into parodies of themselves. This album is made up of great songs, with several classic singles. Even with the "Radiohead ripoff" criticisms, they proved that they had the chops to be considered one of the great early 2000s bands with this record. One note while listening, it's impressive how much effect they wring out of a relatively simple setup with seemingly minimal overdubs. This might make me sound old, but it was nice listening to an album by a band that sounds like a band.

as someone who absolutely loathes hearing coldplay on the radio, i was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed this album

It's Coldplay. It's fine.

Their best album probably.

Favorite tracks are Amsterdam and The Scientist. Will need to listen again.

I feel like Coldplay’s commercial success has played against them. It’s become cool to call them overplayed, overrated, etc. But if you can just set that aside and give it an unbiased listen, most of the songs on this album are pretty damn good.

The tail end of Coldplay’s importance. I love this album, but totally understand why the band lost its cred.

I think Coldplay gets too much hate. Maybe I'm biased since I grew up listening to them, but I actually enjoy their older stuff like this album. This album made me remember a time when pop music had some semblance of depth. That is until corporate pop took over the radio. Sorry for the mini rant. 8/10 Would I listen again? Yes

Parachutes was an excellent album despite the overplayed pop Anthem, Yellow. When n My Place was dropped, and AROBTTH was announced, many wondered if Coldplay could follow up with an equally stellar album. They did. The sounds are more extensive and polished.. More than a Brit Pop banger, this album set them a part from their peers and sent them to worldwide stardom.

Love Coldplay. not ashamed about it at all. They are so much better than their perception. Some really classic albums. I kinda think this is one of my least favorite from them though hahaha. That said there are some amazing tracks on it. Politik, God put a smile, clocks are all superb. I think they found their sound on this album but really figured it out on x&y. Still probably a 4.

Coldplay were at their best at the beginning of their career.

A deeply nostalgic album for this reviewer—I can’t hear Clocks or The Scientist without remembering playing N64 games with my siblings. Pure early 00s pop perfection; Coldplay arguably peaked here.

One of their better albums.

Not a massive fan but I like enough songs and was happy to sit through this. Was surprised how many songs had more of a similar vibe to Parachutes (a great album imo) so enjoyed this and would probably happily revisit it again.

One of their best, honestly this and parachutes is why I fell in love with Coldplay years ago, just doesn’t get old. 4.0

Actually not all that bad

Coldplay bias

Enjoyable

thanks now im in a state of depression

listened before, reminds me of my mom, fav song this time around was "warning sign"

This was great when it first came out. Still sounds good.

The whole was much bette than the sum of its parts

Liked it! Was unfamiliar and glad yo enjoy!

Coldplay's modern pop endeavors may not be the best music out there, but their older stuff still holds up for me. The first half of this album is amazing; the chord progressions and melodies are hauntingly beautiful at points. However, the second half is full of less exciting stuff. Not bad stuff, but it's nothing particularly notable for me. Will definitely be coming back to this one. Best Song: The Scientist Worst Song: Green Eyes Underrated Gem: Politik OH MY GOD I'M SO SICK OF CLOCKS! I HAVE TO HEAR THIS SONG EVERY DAY AT WORK, I CAN'T ESCAPE IT! MAKE IT STOP!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MAKE IT STO-!!!: Clocks Album Score: 8/10

I enjoy Coldplay but I'm not sure if I'd listen to a full album more than once.

IM HAVING ‘NAM FLASHBACKS

Enjoyed this and surprised myself in doing so.

Can't believe Coldplay was one of the bands to have a 4.5 average from me

i dont care it still holds up silly lyrics and beautiful music nostalgic to the max i miss my disc man

An absolute dream of an album. Start off really well with Politik (the second half of the song is just gorgeous), In My Place, God Put a Smile On My Face and (the standout track from the album) The Scientist. An exceptional four track salvo to let you know what to expect! Tails off a bit in the middle (I still don’t understand why people think Clocks is a tune, I can’t stand it) until you reach The Warning which is gorgeous and then mellows to the end. A truly great album, by a truly great band.

I really liked this one

Gah- exposing myself here but I have a soft spot for this era of Coldplay and at certain nostalgic melancholic moods I’m in, I like to return to it. I don’t really skip any and let myself be in the gooey Brit pop of the early aughts. 3.5

Begrudgingly love it

Coldplay was always a band whose songs I knew, but didn't love in the same way many people do (sorry). This album was pretty nice overall though. Hearing their less-known songs for the first time was actually pretty refreshing. I wonder if it was just because they were overplayed that I didn't like their hits... Either way, this one was pretty easy to listen to. "Daylight" and "Amsterdam" were highlights.

There are some great hits in here! However this is not my favorite Coldplay Album. Still a great and iconic album that put them on the map of pop music. 4/5

solid 4.4/5

I knew I was in for a record full of long songs when I saw this pop up--was surprised though when I zoned out listening to politik and realized minutes later that I was listening to the same song. That said, the album has a very easy going tone with resonant guitar riffs and emotional lyrics. It is almost reminiscent of worship music that deftly aims to get the listener into the right "headspace". God put a smile upon your face stood out to me as the most body moving track with a country western/almost jazz adjacent bass line underneath the verses that clearly transform to an indie rock track with the other instruments layered overtop. The opening of Daylight reminded me heavily of When The Day met the Night by Panic at the Disco. Of course, this album predates Pretty Odd, so maybe Panic took inspiration from this, or perhaps it is just the same instrument. Overall, would stare out a car window as rain hits the glass and imagine I'm in a 2000's movie to any of these tracks.

Classic banger

This is before they kind of kind lost all their mojo….

A Beautiful voice and some powerfully written pop songs are what catapulted these guys to success, and long before they found that special sauce of putting out hit after hit, they identified that they could zone in on a sound and jam on it and create this gigantic sound. And it works for them. Overtime I feel as though the music became less creative and more about the impact. However, that was not the case with Parachutes, and not quite fully true with this album. While propelled by the massive songs, it still has powerful presence as a whole. I’ve never been fully engrossed, but I could appreciate their first few albums for the talent collected and refined in them.

Coldplay is always a good choice.

Say what you will about Coldplay, The Scientist and Clocks still hit.

Great album. A mix of stuff that (musically) could have been from their first album, could have come from Led Zep IV, or could have come from either of Radiohead’s Pablo Honey or Hail to the Thief.

Pretty nostalgic.

Enjoyable indie pop record.

I'm still not entirely sure what genre Coldplay fits in, but this is decent music. That is all.

This was actually pretty good.

Pretty good

This album blows me away every time I listen to it. Coldplay is a masterful band full of talented musicians and great people in general. Like I said, this is possibly my favorite album of the 2000s, and people might hate me for it. It’s true! Chris Martin’s songwriting sounds passionate and bounces off the instruments really well. Songs like “A Whisper” and “In My Place” really showcase the band’s flexibility. This album deserves a 96.3%, or a 4.815/5. Fav: “A Whisper” Least Fav: None

Would buy!

Some great tracks in this. Always loved The Scientist and Clocks but hadn't heard much of the rest of the album. Green Eyes I really enjoyed. Think this one is a 4 for me.

Great Coldplay album. Solid as ever.

I already knew I liked this album and then when this popped up I listened to it twics

Super fire

If this album only had the first 4 songs, it’s a 5 star album. But the final 6 songs really let it down. They’re not bad per se, but they’re just meh modern rock songs that pale in comparison with the arranging genius at work on Clocks and The Scientist.

A couple songs bored me to death but more really surprised me. Insane production. Solid album.

is Coldplay cringe? absolutley. is this album a great time? yeah. coldplay did to Radiohead what Creed did to Nirvana and I'm not upset about it.

So good, just not as good as parachutes

In my place and the scientist.

Liked this way more than I expected to. Was never a fan of theirs, did not like these singles when they came out, but damn, I’m happy I went back to it. What a killer 5-song opening stretch. 4/5

All these songs hold up, a great album. More swagger without it getting in the way.

For a moment, this album took me back to what Coldplay was, and what it still should be. The Rush of Blood to the Head starts with a royal flush of hits in Politik, In My Place, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist, and Clocks. The latter part of the album continues just as strong. 4/5

A few classics in there, the 4 song stretch from 'In My Place' to 'Clocks' is an incredible run. Plateaued a bit after that

A few solid tunes. Overall pretty darn good.

I like this more than I care to admit.

Very good but some songs sound the same and some the hits feel out of place

Coldplay is great

Just ok

Singles: -------------------------------------- In My Place (#2 UK; #1 US Adult ALT) The Scientist (#10 UK; #5 US Adult ALT) Clocks (#9 UK; #1 US Adult ALT) God Put a Smile upon Your Face (#100 UK; #15 US Adult ALT) 5/5: Clocks, The Scientist, In My Place, 4/5: Warning Sign, Politik, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, A Rush of Blood to the Head, Green Eyes, Amsterdam Rating: 4/5

After two days of Paul Simon babbling and Eric Clapton wanking his guitar over their respective bands it was refreshing to hear a group of musicians working together. There are some good tracks on this album, as overplayed as ‘In my Place’ and ‘The Scientist’ are there are forgotten gems in ‘Warning Sign’ and ‘God put a smile on your face’ to make up for it. 4/5 seems to high but I’ll go with it because I’ll happily listen to Coldplay again even though I don’t think I like them that much.

A beautiful listen, simplistic yet symphonic melodies and engaging lyrics. I maintain my position that first 2 Coldplay album are both incredibly divine pieces of music.

Maybe I should feel guilty for rating them so high but I feel no shame. Guessing that Parachutes will be a 5 for me though, so reserving that slot for now.

Album starts pretty strong and doesn’t close quite as well but I honestly like it a lot. I think music nerds react badly to Coldplay because they are “safe” and pop-focused but I don’t think those are dirty words. Great melodies. Best song: Green Eyes

Great album, was into Coldplay before they become famous, the scientist reminds me of a bad break up though

I’ve always been one of those “ick, Coldplay” snobs. Though secretly I’ve always liked The Scientist and, apparently a few other tracks too! So… ok, fine. I guess I dig Coldplay. Why not? (Clocks was still overplayed and I prefer the version with the Buena Vista Social Club) Tracks added to Spotify: 3

I miss the old Coldplay. Nostalgic and good

Misschien meer 3.5 door tering nummers zoals The Scientist, maar ik vind dit wel echt een goed album van een band waar ik geen fan van ben. 'Green Eyes' en 'Politik' zijn 10/10.

Coldplay are basically a better version of U2

Coldplay. I'm guessing if I were to look at the reviews people are going to hate on them because it is cool to hate on Coldplay. Their earlier stuff like Rush of Blood to the Head are good. I don't care that the popular opinion is to talk shit about them. I enjoy their music. There are several stand out songs on this album: In My Place, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist, Clocks, Green Eyes. So yeah this is good listening and all of the "cool" haters can eat my shit. 4 out of 5.

Coldplay on kyllä hyvä bändi. Aika akustista. Parhaat: In My Place, Clocks, The Scientist

Coldplay as the alternate-universe version of Radiohead that continued to explore the Pablo Honey sound and style

Apparently it isn't cool to like Coldplay so maybe that says something about me? I enjoyed this album. Seems closer to a 4 than a 3 to me so I'll round up on this one.

A rush of blood to the head has been my calibrating album for “4/5 stars” this whole time. It’s exactly, dead center, 4 stars out of 5. Why is this? We don’t know why. Like the famous “stone” of antiquity that would become the one stone from which all weights were measured, this album was dug from the earth and borne before the world, and so was the concept of “4 stars.” 4 means it’s a great album. I have heard it at least a hundred times while doing homework in high school, but never on fancy speakers like today. The songs are good. They get sneaky with the harmony. Did every early 2000’s band have to squeeze in a B section with some oddball changes? Some of these progressions are soooooo Radiohead, and The Scientist even feel like some kind of strait-laced cousin to “Fake Plastic Trees.” But then again I’ve always understood Coldplay to be the lawful good version of Radiohead’s chaotic neutral. Neither truly cancels the other out. Playing them along on keys today, and quite a few songs are in between keys. Would love to know the story there. The melodies are very counterintuitive. I think that’s one of the things that’s stuck with me. Chris Martin still has, improbably, a one-in-a-million voice, personal aspersions aside (people seem to really dislike this man), and this band would be much more uninteresting without him. A bit on the bland side, but you just have to sink into it. Never too risky. Maybe it’s the mix that makes it feel a little safe? Some of those guitar walls seem pretty dated and uninteresting now, just gonna say it. The chords are still fresh, songs are still strong. It’s been a 4.000000 out of 5 this entire time in my head, and so it shall remain! May its memory be a blessing. 4/5

Love love love this album, one of my favorites of all time from Coldplay right behind Parachutes. Emotional, beautiful, powerful, and just a great all around listen.

No question is a good album with great songs. 20 years later it seems more pop than rock to me but it's still a great album.

Heard it so much on the radio I can’t review it objectively haha

When Coldplay’s first album came out, I said to a friend it sounds like they’re trying to be halfway between Radiohead’s artsy and edgy side and U2’s commercial side. On this, their second album, it turns out that they wanted to be more commercial than U2 but just couldn’t get the spices right the first time. There are some pretty catchy top 40 songs on this album and a little bit of filler, but not too bad a solid effort, but I wouldn’t put this as a five star album.

The only Coldplay album you need, and it established the band's brand of user-friendly rock. "Politik" jump-starts things, with other highlights including "The Scientist," "Amsterdam," and the title track. These are fine songs that are well written, produced and performed. In a more dubious achievement, "In My Place" and "Clocks" remain in heavy rotation at grocery stores.

Great album with some of cold plays greatest hits.

For da nostalgia

I found this great and hadn't ever paid attention to this group apart from the big singles

I love me a good rush of side one.

Coldplay beat the sophomore slump.

With radiohead going weird and off the grid with kid a this was coldplays chance to take up the thoughtful modern rock mantle and they do a fine job of it. While I am no fan of the band this album works very well, particularly the front loaded first half, with In My Place being the best song they've made.

Really good album. I'm used to some of the songs from playing their orchestral arrangements, so it was nice to listen to them in their natural habitat.

with a hint of Radiohead

The first half of this album is fire and soundtracked a heady year of my young adulthood; the second half, not so much. I find it very odd that the Brits named this album a better album in 2011 than Dark Side of the Moon. I mean, Clocks kicks ass but let’s not be ridiculous, right?

Their last good album

Great one 🙏

it was good, nice soothing melodies

Enjoyed a lot while working. great background music

good album, feels like teenage years

8/10 Fave- Clocks, The scientist, God put a smile, A whisper Least - Green eyes

Classic album, great listen Top tracks: In My Place, The Scientist, Clocks, A Whisper

This album is the best balance Coldplay ever had between the sentimental bombast that characterized their later work and the folk-rock influences that was on their first album. I still prefer "Parachutes" to this album, as you can hear where Coldplay begins to steer in the wrong direction with this album. "Clocks" sounds like it was written specifically to be in a car commercial at Christmas time. The later 1/3 of the album can tend to drag and is the band at its most self-indulgent. Overall, a really good album and it deserves a place on this list. It's bombastic enough to enjoy, but not so much you feel like you need to put headphones on and listen to it in a closet where no one can hear you.

I own this one, it has a few bangers

Pleasant melodic pop rock. Remarkably consistent throughout and definitely the sound of its age.

amazing album can’t lie

Very solid modern rock album. Evidently Coldplay's early music was pretty influential, because every alt rock band in the 2000s/2010s was emulating these vibes. The slower songs stand out as the most unique and hard to reproduce. Favorite Track: The Scientist, Green Eyes

This album is like poetry. Very well put together.

Good. But mediocre

was nice to revisit this album; you could forget how the scientist is kinda deep by how popular it is but it really is a nice song

Fantastic! Classics from start to finish. Put a smile on my face for nearly an hour.

This is a good album even though it generally evokes melancholy feeling. Some of the songs on it lack a little luster, but for as much play time as I've given this album, and for my own bittersweet memories associated with it, I'd be tempted to give this a five. However, since I think Mylo Xyloto is the superior album I have to give A Rush of Blood to the Head a four in order to provide ceiling space for it.

my favorite radiohead :3

Its hard to imagine 2002, but when this came out, Coldplay were still a small band... They played in bingo halls and high school gyms on the relentless tour for this album that would make them global stars, they played shows to 600 & 800 people early in the tour in Boston and Philadelphia respectively. That's insane... Now, this album is good to great, yes it's played out because how worldly popular the band became, but it was all built off hard work, they pounded the hard yards to be hated by millions and richer than god, with a smile on their face. Screw the haters, put this on and remember a simpler time where you could see a band on the cusp of megastardom for less than $10 in a sweaty ballroom or gymnasium playing the best music you had heard at the time.

This album is like an old friend that you haven’t seen in a while. It was good to catch up. Definitely a strong album. Their songwriting was terrific during this period.

This and Parachutes the best of Coldplay (I prefer Parachutes). Biased a bit I listened this on ma late teens , 4/5. I really prefer this 'early' coldplay (closer to radiohead)

I'm always surprised when I quite like coldplay

Really a great album, especially when considered next to their contemporaries like Swans, Badly Drawn Boy, etc. I may also be biased as I listed to this a lot during a fun period of my life but I think the lyrics, Melodie’s and performances are all Worthy of recognition.

Number of classic songs

As someone who grew up without a Coldplay phase, I really am loving them in my more adult life.. I was too busy listening to fucking System of a Down to listen to anything but Coldplays hits but man this album as a whole was great in my opinion. On this album Chris deals with a lot of subject matter.. we go over religion, being a piece of shit and being pretty down and out, and finding god and that path to redemption, how beautiful that connection with our creator can be, as someone who has had a handful of these like true connected feelings with our creator.. man they're special. I loved basically every track on this thing except maybe one or two.. 'Politik' has this great sllow build up to, in which (this is at least how i percieve it) chris or the point of view is praying to the creator, asking for "time, space.. strength, but reserve control. he's praying for things like heart and soul, time and a big old kiss for every single one of us :) praying for wounds that heal, and cracks that fix.. then finally he asks us all to open up our eyes, to the creators prescence in this life, how we as human beings are naturally spiritual creatures, there is strong power in god and its such a beautiful way to live life, everyone should feel the love of god.. and not just in like a christian way, but in just a godly way.. its beautiful. After asking for quite a few things (mostly good) in a prayer, near the end of the song he closes with asking for love over all of this. I thought this was a great way to open the album. 'In My Place' has to be one of my favorite songs on this album, the energy and feel to this song is just perfect to me.. it feels like autumn, meloncholic and just beautiful. Really love this song, especially the ending "please, please, please" ugh. In this song, i believe chris is reflecting on his past, maybe a person he wasn't so happy to have been in the past.. mistakes he made, he mentions he crossed lines he shouldn't of crossed, he was lost.. but asking how long must he pay for this? How long must we wait for redemption? How long must we repent? My favorite part of the song is the ending though, when he says "singing please, please, please come back and sing to me" referencing there will always be a space, a slot, a section for lovers we've shared with before.. maybe not to reconnect, but a space for them in some way.. its a beautiful song about redemption, about having some mistakes in your past, but moving past them and becoming a better person from it. a song i really relate to and feel, i love this song. 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' this song kind of has this "sung by a campfire" feel, and then it finally bursts into an electric guitar track around a minute in. this song deals how a lot of us question why are we here, where do we go when we die, and what is the point of any of this, but ultimately how freeing it is to just let go in the grace of the creator and realize, god put a smile on your face.. i especially love the lyrics "when you work it out, i'm worse than you.. yeah when you work it out, i wanted to" just referencing maybe some past regret and self reflection on it.. but as we're kind of kicking ourselves as we're down, chris also says, don't ever say you're on your way down, when god gave you style and gave you grace! Flaunt it! Smile, life is too beautiful! Its just a great feeling song.. 'The Scientist' I believe this song is about a conversation chris has had with a scientist, or maybe a man of science vs him, a man of god.. and the conflicts and battles these worlds can create between each others beliefs and how they can be sensitive. He's asking the man for his secrets, and he accepts the mans questions to him about his faith, and then he asks lets go back to the start, yours and mine.. (science vs faith) my favorite lyrics in this song are "Questions of science, science and progress do not speak as loud as my heart.. but tell me you love me, come back and haunt me.. oh, and i RUSH to the start" they're beautiful lyrics about how you can pull apart the mysteries, but god its so much more beautiful to live the way chris is referencing in these lyrics.. I might have this wrong, but to me thats what these lyrics really rang through to me. 'Clocks' kind of a meme song (i think of this ONE scene in the office, jim's presentation at sabre) but if i DONT think about that, i can't REALLY get a firm grasp of the message in this song honestly, other than wondering if you're doing what right, or doing whats wrong.. are you part of the cure, or are you the disease.. you are. i just wanted to go home(you).. (Honestly I used to love this song, now not so much..) 'Daylight' I think this song is about chris (or point of view) finally, regardless of his surprise, seeing a "sunlight" (god) regardless of being NOTHING, being in the dark.. the clouds burst to show daylight and the sun will shine.. to me, this song feels like finding god after being in a very dark place, and a song i can relate to as someone who has only recently in the past 5~ years or so somewhat found a "god" being of my own.. the energy on the end of track ugh 'Green Eyes' A love song dedicate to you, green eyes.. the spotlight shines upon you, for honey you are the rock that i stand upon." a sweet lil acoustic song dedicated to a lover i'm sure.. "I came here with a load, and it feels so much lighter now i met you." these lyrics make me think of my baby. I'd love to learn this song on acoustic. I think i'll do that. 'Warning Sign' This is the first track on the album that i didn't really love. it's just feels kind of like filler. i think its a song about chris (or point of view) in a relationship and things were getting serious or moving fast, and he/pov started looking for warning signs but then after breaking things off, realizing they were an island they let pass by, and the truth is really he/pov misses them. I don't know, not my song. 'A Whisper' Second song on the album i didn't really enjoy. it just kind of feels messy and loud and ironically chris is just singing "whisper" half of the song.. not really a fan. 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' I didn't LOVE this song, but i enjoyed it for sure. To me, it feels like chris/pov is saying he's going to burn this place to the ground and after the subject material we've dealt with in this album, to me it feels like he's referencing an older version of himself perhaps? I could be wrong about this one but, its what i get from the song. Its an alright song, and the song the album is named after, but its not my favorite song on the album. 'Amsterdam' At first i didn't really enjoy this song, but it grew on me.. the piano is nice, and the subject material is serious and relatable. We can all feel dead on the surface, screaming underneath.. on the edge tied to a noose.. but you (god, a love, a friend etc) came along and you cut me loose.. thank you for saving me. This song definitely grew on me after my first listen. The more i listen to it, i think its a good closing track to the album, closing out a fairly good album as a whole that dealt with rough pasts, regrets, lost loves, and the freeing feelings of connecting with the spirit or essence of our creator, the one we call "god" Overall: 4.3/5

A huge leap forward from the previous album. Still earnest rock forward music. The talent is there. Not yet pop stars and tabloid fodder for marrying Hollywood actresses.

Really good album especially compared to the crap they make now! Something very haunting about it too but I'm not sure what

Solid album with good songs. Forgot I knew the album so well!

great grea music that sticks with you through the years. maybe its missing a song that picks up in the later section but its great

Still very enjoyable. The singles are strong, the middle section is excellent. Tails off a little towards the end, but finished well with Amsterdam.

This album is 21 years old. That means I can legally have a beer with it. Which, I did! Chock full of hits that we now consider timeless classics. I tend to forget there was a considerable time when Coldplay was a tremendous band doing things few others were doing at the turn of the millennium. They kind of kept stadium rock alive, like it or not. It’s not perfect, and I would consider one or two songs on here duds, but you can’t deny the staying power this record had on popular culture.

Good album and a 2000s classic. It's sad Coldplay aren't what they used to be

Throwback

I like Clocks and The Scientist but already knew them. Not particularly inspired by the others. Already knew In My Place as well. Amazing voice but overall a little dour for me.

Standouts: Clocks, The Scientist, In My Place, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Others: Politik, Green Eyes, Warning Sign, A Rush of Blood to the Head, Amsterdam 4/5

It’s Coldplay….but it’s also really good. It’s really just like the best this sort of modern pop rock can get.

This is a blast from my childhood. I have a lot of fond memories of listening to this album, but I do think it musically stands up still. Don’t like new Coldplay, but old Coldplay was pretty special

A Rush Of Blood To The Head is a good album in my opinion. Coldplay is one of those bands that you either love or hate, but I don't think I'm really in either camp. I don't think they deserve to be hated on, but I can see why someone might not like Coldplay that much. With that said, I did like this album in particular. I think that the overarching theme of relationships and existential crises is handled in a good and interesting way. The songs of the album are pretty alright. Clocks is an iconic song for a reason, and the other songs don't disappoint either. The singing is pretty good. The album is definitely on the longer side, but it didn't really drag for too long. This album isn't perfect and I don't really see myself listening to it again in the future, but it is without a doubt a well made album that I respect. Light 4/5.

An album I have! I always really loved Clocks, The Scientist and In My Place. Some of the other songs had to grow on me a bit, but overall it's really solid. Love the volume dynamics in A Whisper. This was a great era for Coldplay

Af hverju er The Scientist langmesta spilaða lagið hér? Það er langt frá því að vera best eða eftirminnilegast. Fín plata annars, eldist ágætlega.

Great Album I have been listening on the radio for many years 4 stars

Politik - Nog nooit eerder gehoord, maar wel grappig nummer. In My Place - Wel leuk nummer God Put a Smile Upon Your Face - The Scientist - Niet het leukste bekende nummer van Coldplay, maar wel aardig. Beetje herhaaldelijke gitaarriff A Rush of Blood to the Head - Prima Amsterdam - 3.5

Some lovely music. Love his voice.

🥶🎤

Very good album. There is a reason why coldplay got so popular in this era. There is nothing I would change about the album. Every song had its place in the album. It is curious why The scientist was the song that took off when I think that it might be one of the weaker songs. Maybe I've just heard it too many times. Really nothing to complain about. 4 stars

some decent songs but played out

Prettyyy nice, 3.5/5 Fav: Clocks

This is...kinda good?

This album isn't as nostalgic as I wished it was, but it's still solid. This is classic Coldplay, before they turned pure corpo-rockpop. While the most popular songs from the album, The Scientist and Clocks, feel overplayed and outdated, many of the other songs are a surprising hit. Overall, decent album with some good songs. Glad to give it a listen again. Best Songs: Politik, God Put a Smile upon Your Face, Green Eyes Worst Songs: A Whisper

Oh Coldplay... I feel like pop artists follow one of three trajectories - they start slow and get better and better, they have one album/song that is huge and then they fizzle out in obscurity, or they start off massive and just coast off their name and old works for the rest of their career until they become a joke. Coldplay definitely falls into the third category. Their latter albums are complete and absolute nothing music. Completely toothless messages and uninspiring lyrics. Take "Something Just Like This" - 2.3 BILLION hits on Spotify but it sounds like something relegated to something you'd hear at a finance bro wedding. HOWEVER, Coldplay started off super strong. There's a reason why they became such a huge name and why Chris Martin's voice is so recognizable. Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head were MASSIVE albums and churned out some absolute hits that you can just hear Chris Martin pouring his heart and soul into when he sings. These albums are unquestionably good, albeit the music itself is pretty uninspiring. It's just a shame that Coldplay became what they are now - bland nothing pop music. This album is a solid 4

I've never really been a huge fan of Coldplay. It always seemed to me like they were trying too hard to be Radiohead. And this album doesn't get off to the best start. Politik and God Put a Smile Upon Your Face are solid songs, but nothing super interesting happened for the first few songs. But I think everything from Clocks onward is actually really great. This album is at its best instrumentally when it incorporates elements of orchestration, like the strings on Daylight. And plenty of these songs have these electric and evocative moments of energy, but there is also a fair share of moments where everything comes to a halt to let sheer beauty take the stage. The closer, Amsterdam, for example, is a stark contrast compared to the song before it. It is almost entirely led by Chris and his piano, until the last minute or so, where everything comes crashing down and the rest of the band comes in. It is an excellent way of ending an album, and brings everything to a close. Even a song like Green Eyes, which doesn't have the most interesting instrumental compared to other tracks, still has some of the most endearing lyrics of any deep cut on the album. Even if, like I mentioned previously, it seems like the band is trying to capture some of the lightning in a bottle musicianship that Radiohead had in the 90's and early 2000's, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Because Coldplay did their thing on this, and when you get albums like this, I think it can be excused. Rating: 8/10

Songs I already like from this: Politik The Scientist Clocks A Rush of Blood to the Head Amsterdam

This is their best album.

loved it but some were just okay Top Tracks: 1) In My Place 2) Clocks (actually in my top 10 songs EVER MADE) 3) The Scientist 5) Green Eyes 6) Warning Signs

More like a rush of blood to the (I am not going to finish this sentence)

I honestly loved it. Coldplay as such a classic sound that I have always loved. 4/5

Am I part of the cure? Or am I part of the disease? I was pretty excited to see an album from an artist I recognized, and knew that I've enjoyed in the past, even if it isn't necessarily my "type" of music now. I was really happy to hear that "The Scientist" and "Clocks" were on this record, as my dad had those songs downloaded on his iPod while I was a kid. The first song immediately caught my attention with a very -rock- vibe, but with the coldplay 'feel' that I'm used to hearing in other tracks. The listening experience was super enjoyable, and although certain songs were slower or more dragged out than I would've preferred, I enjoyed this album and would listen to it again. 4/5

Some iconic songs. Some meh songs as well

I loved Parachutes, but Coldplay started to sour on me not long after A Rush Of Blood came out. The extreme popularity, the overplaying, the ego and annoying love life of the lead singer, it just ruined it for me. But I will say that this album has some great songs on it. This was Coldplay just before things got icky, but hey, it was really good while it lasted! In any event, this album clearly deserves its place on the list. 4/5

SOLID catharsis album. I am not a huge Coldplay fan (she said as she sang along with every track and felt all the feels) but this is a great album.

I really enjoyed this album

Not full of concert anthems like some of the other albums, but still a good listen.

I'm familiar with a handful of Coldplay's singles, but this was my first experience with one of their full albums (even though I own Parachutes on CD). This album is a really good piece of pop rock. The melodies are beautiful, the piano playing is great, and Chris Martin's vocals are perfect for the sound that Coldplay wants to create. Most of the songs on this album were really good: "Politik," "In My Place," "God Put a Smile upon Your Face," and "Daylight" were among the best songs here. But "The Scientist" and "Clocks" were in a class of their own. On "The Scientist," the somber lyrics, Martin's voice, and the increasing tempo of the guitar strumming created a beautifully distinct song. However, "Clocks" was easily my favorite track on the album. The lyrics about a lost love were fantastic, but the piano melody steals the show here. Coldplay isn't really my jam for the most part, but this was a really good record. I think I should go dust off my copy of Parachutes now.

Soft, gentle, heartfelt, deep

The scientist, in my place, clocks are good Lots of Piano Melodies in the background with people basically just singing on top.

Chris and the boys were really cooking with this one. Front to back might be my favorite Coldplay record. A bit too long but great stuff throughout, minus one or two Just OK songs

Clocks is an excellent example of what Coldplay does right. The entire band is firing on all cylinders, and the drumming on that track is particularly tasty. A Rush of Blood to the Head is a good sophomore album. Parachutes is a great debut album. This album marks the end of the Coldplay discography. Afterward Coldplay becomes Chris Martin's band, and the rest of the musicians are there, too. Another example of a band producing a beautiful and timeless debut, and struggling to match that initial success with later releases. One has to realize that Coldplay had been working on Parachutes for god-knows-how-many years before actually recording it. Then only 2 years for the followup. And then Chris Martin became a rock star. So it goes.

Best Songs: The Scientist, In My Place

liked this record. clocks reminded me of the mtv days

Have this album. Like it. (4)

Probably them at there commercial apex. Very pleasant.

A very good second record for Coldplay.

A very good album, even if some of it is a bit dated. You can start to hear the transition from good Coldplay to bad Coldplay here, and some of the songs can be a bit overbearing. This is the album I associate most with listening to on an iPod.

Great album, with songs like the scientist and clocks that are one of the best songs they created

Was surprise to hear this kind of sounds from Coldplay ! Liked it very much ! 7/10

Politik - 3.5 In my place - 4 God put a smile upon your face - 3.5 The scientist - 3.5 Clocks - 3.5 Daylight - 4 Green eyes - 3.5 Warning sign - 3 A whisper - 3 A rush of blood to the head - 4 Amsterdam - 3.5

The first half of this album is amazing. The second half is kind of a snooze fest. If the second half would've been a tad stronger this would have been a solid 5.

Broadly I like this album. I'd say "Clocks" is the standout track on it and the others I'd call decent rather than eccellent.

Great song writing. Drums sometimes feel a bit dull though. Not a bad listen

Pleasantly surprised. I kind of zoned out and just enjoyed it. Not my favorite music but still enjoyable.

some real stand out songs a surprisingly unique sound. Its a bit too dull for a whole album, but a song at a time it's wonderful.

Nice album. Has some great songs!

Pretty nice sounding with some bangers. There’s something about it that holds it from greatness.Maybe it’s lack of pure emotion idk.I might listen to it again.Lovely album art but not a 5/5.Clocks Is good. His vocals are good throughout.

comment ont ils pu un jour sortir a sky full of stars c'est si mysterieux .....

I secretly judge people who say they hate Coldplay. I get they’ve been through a few cringey iterations but I simply ignore everything after their second album and let the people who enjoy them (I’m assuming 40 year old Christians), enjoy them. This album has some really enjoyable songs on it and it’s not all simplistic pop rock, there’s some interesting chord progressions and memorable choruses. My only criticism is that it is slightly too long but people who write off this album simply because its Coldplay are just brainlessly hating on them. Chris Martin did nothing wrong!

"A Rush of Blood to the Head" by Coldplay is an emotionally charged album that encapsulates the band's signature sound. Released in 2002, it's a showcase of introspective lyrics and anthemic melodies. Tracks like "Clocks" and "The Scientist" epitomize their ability to craft stirring ballads. The album's production is polished, creating a dreamy atmosphere that suits their emotive style. However, at times, the album's emotional depth might come across as slightly formulaic, causing certain tracks to blur together. While the album's impact on my youth is undeniable, some songs don't quite match the high standards set by the standout hits. Overall, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" remains a solid effort that captures Coldplay's essence, even if it occasionally feels a touch repetitive.

Wrote this one off as a teenage punk rocker. The drums were always a bit pedestrian, but the song writing is undeniably great.

Still an amazing album. Rate this as probably their best 9/10

Listened Before? Y This is a staple of my music collection from the early 2000s. I don't care what people say about it, I love it. It has a ton of nostalgia attached to it for me and I usually only listen to it in the winter so it makes me feel like it's winter even though it's currently August. This is a solid album beginning to end, and I like nearly all the songs. Added to Library? Y (already there) Songs added to playlist: In My Place

Its good

First off, there are some obviously well known song here that I really like. "The Scientist" is my favorite and has been for ages and will be a song I love till I die. That being said, what I found most impressive about this album is that past the songs I know and are popular ... the, as I like to call them, "filler" song are really good too. This is a great ALBUM. all of it.

Strangely enough, this is the second day in a row where I got an album that was nominated for the BRIT Awards’ Best Album of the last 30 years (got Brothers In Arms yesterday) That aside, thought this was very great. Contains some of this band’s best material Loses a bit of a momentum in the middle, mainly due to the brilliant singles taking up most of the first half, but Amsterdam is a powerhouse of a closer Favourite tracks: Politik, In My Place, God Put A Smile…, The Scientist, Clocks, Amsterdam

porukka vihaa coldplay ja sitten menee kuuntelee joku radiohead...sama asia blud...blud tässä ok kompuutteri...ei näy top listoilla koska PUBLIC ZEITGEIST+SNOWBALL EFFEKT...ei mielestäni ookkaan mikään top albmi mutta ei ole sekään ...helppoa nelosta täysillä respekteillä... clocks...hit me with that shit....dum dum dum dum dum dudududu

On the boundary of guilty pleasure - but it is a pleasure.

A bit of a guilty pleasure, but very listenable, creative, and would be pretty dull in concert.

“You know how I know you’re gay?” Is all I can think about when I listen to Coldplay.

I really like this album. Just listened to it on my own without this website prompting me.

Really non-abrasive. But still sounds original, before they went with the safe cookie cutter pop sound.
