Reviews (page 9 of 14)
Didn't quite like it, stopped listening to it on the 5th track. It ain't bad tho, It was just me not feeling it. I don't think its bad anyways, just never got interested on Bob Dylan.
Is OK, not a fan of bob dylan btw
all of the songs kinda sounded the same. they all had some combination of harmonica, acoustic guitar, and almost speaking-type vocals that would be fine for a song or two but may not work for every song on an album.
After an album where he was primarily confined in the shackles of singing blues standards, Bob Dylan takes the next step and releases the first album of the multi-headed dragon known as "Bob Dylan's 60s period" Mind you, not his best album, but a very respectable one. It's very rocky and wavey, but never dips low, and has highs which I can review just by saying their names, like "Girl From The North Country", "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right". Not a big fan of the spoken-word approach he had on a few tracks here, but none of the are a chore to go through, because the combination of Dylan's writing skill and sometimes humorous delivery capture the zeitgeist of the time, and also make them seamlessly fit together in between the heavy hitters, sorta like preludes, or better yet, like a musician wanting to connect with their audience in a concert.
6/10
I can see why this was Dylan's breakout album, hes got skill on the guitar and his voice is nice. However, I like my barebones guitar-only folk to be either a bit sadder or more biting in it's political themes (such as Phil Ochs' work going into the second half of the decade on "I'm Not Marching Anymore"). 7/10.
7.5/10 I like the songwriting and his singing but it gets a bit boring after a while.
I like the harmonica. His songs have more diversity than I thought. I can get down with some Bob Dylan now.
Feels harsh, particularly given recent 4s, but it just doesn’t do enough for me.
When I first put this on I felt a bit grumpy about there being so much Bob Dylan on the list, and I was especially grumpy because a lot of it has been very early, Folkmode Dylan. I like it, but I like him a lot more later on when he’s less of a Poet and more of a Band Leader. But I came around. This one’s really good, and has some great moments of Dylan poetry. I’m gonna round it down anyway, to curve it to my overall Dylan tastes. But it’s good, obviously.
Zo kort na elkaar Bob Dylan, maar deze vind ik veel beter dan de vorige.
not quite my style. but not that i didnt enjoy it
I do struggle with Bob Dylan I know he is a great song writer but I find him as a performer quite boring
Dylan's first famous album has a purity that none of his later work has (that I've heard). This is clearly the work of a young man full of potential, but at the same time, wise beyond his years. "Blowin' in the Wind" is rightfully iconic and perfectly encapsulates all of that, and I do love how it pops-up in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Beyond that, we have the album cover, which looks like a poster for a Romantic Comedy film set in the 60's? Fun! Key tracks: Blowin' in the Wind Girl From the North Country Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
you know what sure ouch, the harmonica hurt its not bad
I liked Highway 61 Revisited more, but this one is also pretty good.
Ekki besta Dylan platan
Nokkrir góðir slagarar en annars bara fínt.
I am more of a greatest hits guy when it comes to Dylan
Of all the Bob Dylan albums I've listened to, this one is the best. I'm not a huge fan of his - never have been - and from my perspective, this isn't quite worth a 4, but it's probably the closest he'll get. Don't Think Twice, Blowin' and Hard Rain are the standout tracks.
There is such a thing as too much harmonica
It’s Bob, certain respect for that. But it’s a little dull.
No doubt, one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. But can’t get over his singing style.
Bob Dylan was an incredible poet. His lyrics are superb, he tells stories, he's abstract, and he can't sing all that well. I do appreciate Bob Dylan.
3 Doesn’t set my heart on fire tbh. There are some songs on here I love a lot but feel a bit lukewarm about it tbh!!! Sue me!!!
pretty nice, I think I like bob dylan somewhat, based on the two albums I've heard, he is at least tolerable, and this album was nice enough
Good, I appreciate Bob Dylan, but don't love him. But album was quite relaxing
It was unique! really made me feel like a 70s cowboy, first two songs were the best
decent, didnt really grip me though
The hits are real bangers, the rest is mumbly wordplay I can't stand.
Bob always been a bit Marmite for me. Gotta acknowledge his songwriting ability though. Although some of his best songs have a better cover version.
Good for chilling at work with these songs, but really boring for regular listening. The first song on the album is perfect, and another one is an excellent song.
Just yesterday I was talking about the fact that I couldn’t wait until I had a Bob Dylan album to listen to. This past summer I saw Bob Dylan perform because I felt it was important for any music lover to experience a legend like Bob Dylan in person at some point in their life. During his performance, the camera stayed at a steady 2000 miles away, and there was no indication as to whether the hat that bobbed behind a too-tall piano, surrounded by too-close musicians, singing too-murmured words was truly Bob Dylan or not. I left frustrated and confused about the infatuation our world has with this seemingly arrogant and distant, inaccessible character. I was frustrated by the mystique and performance as a whole - how insistent upon itself it was. I questioned what I missed about this character, but left it there. Today I had the opportunity to listen to this album and upon hearing his songs, a new question arose in me as to how an entire generation that was motivated by the words of Bob Dylan toward social justice and peace and progress could be the same generation that, today, hordes wealth and whose leaders act and govern in a way that prevents younger generations and different communities enjoying the very progress and peace that Bob Dylan yearned for. The words of this album celebrate the American Dream and demonize war and those who promote it. While there is filler and some frustrating self-referential aspects of the album that I didn’t necessarily appreciate there’s no denying that tracks like Blowin’ in the Wind, Masters of War, Oxford Town, and I Shall Be Free are brilliant and relevant today, as ever. This record is not perfect but it serves as evidence of Dylan’s influence in a time when poets understood the struggles of common people who fought for progress rather than preservation of their own place of privilege. If only it persisted.
bob dylan is good, but i cant take the singing for the whole album
I've warmed to Bob Dylan's music since watching that Timothee Chalamet biopic. I'm familiar with the well-known tunes on the album. Masters of War, Blowin' in the Wind, Don't think twice... Don't think twice is by far my favourite track on the album. Leagues above the other songs imo. It was also used as end credits in an early Mad Men episode... Enjoying the strumming rhythm guitar on on A Hard Rain's gonna fall. The actual song was kinda boring though. I listened to this album twice, and enjoyed it more on my second listen. However, I feel that often there is too much going on, the songs are too long, that even with the poignant lyrics contained within the songs, I'm numb to them because my brain is dulled by the samey guitar. I'm speaking generally here. There were more songs I picked up on: Corina, Corrina and Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance. I liked the racial element of the lyrics in Oxford Town. Maybe my preference to the shorter, sweeter songs is a reflection of my constantly eroding attention span. I do like this, but not enough to give more than 3 stars because of the dull occurrences in the song. But on future listens, I think it could grow on me.
It sounds same-y. 3/5
Some undeniable gems, but it gets boring.
Not bad, but not my thing
masters of war is ASS !! i can respect the album but its not my taste
Yea
Not my favourite Dylan Album
I see there's quite a few Bob Dylan albums on here and I have never listened to his catalog outside of his big hits. I kind of can't believe how he sounds on these albums as he was in his early 20s. He sounds like a 65 year old man, and his lyrics kind of resonate like he is some sort of old soul (which I suppose he doesn't have to sing about himself). I do enjoy acoustic guitar with harmonica breaks, always reminds me of hiking and walking in nature. I don't mind him, I wouldn't really throw him on or find myself singing his songs, but I don't mind it.
Some of the good Bob Dylan songs. The others went on too long.
not bad actually. expected it to be boring.
it's alright I guess, not really my jam
1/13 bekannt 7/10 Beste Songs: blowin in the Wind, masters of war, honey just allow me one more chance
As much as I don’t like folk music, I did enjoy this Bob Dylan album. It’s more upbeat and fun than most other folk records which is probably why I enjoyed this more.
My favorite part is reading the reviews. Either 5 or 1. People love or hate Dylan. I am in neither camp. I am indifferent. This album is ok.
Yoo wait I remember this from "American Pie". Some good songwriting, but the instrumentation (or lack thereof) gets grating after a while. Put the harmonic down, white boy.
I dreamt I was walkin’ into World War III, I went to the doctor the very next day
Favorite track(s): Girl from the North Country, Masters of War, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Corrina, Corrina Heard before Previous rating: 7/10
Nowhere as good as the other two of his I've heard. Someone should have confiscated his harmonica. Considered giving it a 2 but that felt a little too unfair.
I have to admit, Bob Dylan is not my favourite. Great songwriter and especially lyricist, but his voice, especially in his later years - like nails on a chalkboard for me. But fortunately his singing style wasn't so affected yet on this album, and I was able to enjoy it. I've also been leaning towards angst-free rebellious music lately, so I've been appreciating folk singers of the 60s a lot. - Heard before? Not in its entirety, but I was familiar with many songs. - Will I listen again? If I'm ever craving Bob Dylan, this would be the album I'd choose. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? Maybe not Dylan specifically, but his contemporaries.
Folk and blues songs with just voice, acoustic guitar, and harmonica. Accessible and consistent, thought-provoking lyrics and pretty guitar playing.
Classic american folk music.
Reminds me of the bad old days before Vietnam.
It's fine and all, but it blends together heavily as it's all vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica. Not to mention it sounds like crazy old man rambling at times.
an icon but i honestly got a little bit bored after a while
The songwriting is exceptional, though I can't get over his voice. Favourite Track(s): Masters of War Least Favourite Track(s): Talkin' World War III Blues
Very popular early Dylan. Hits you will know and others that are pretty good. A solid album, not just for Dylan fans.
Someone should make a movie about this guy, but use an actor that doesn’t look or sound like him.
Il est bon le bob
Pretty decent. A like the hits from this album, but there are some tracks that are a little tiresome. I like it a good amount, but his later stuff is really where I start to dig it.
Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate he is a genius
This is my fourth Bob Dylan album (and I'm only 127 albums in) and so far I've only really liked one of them. This is not that one. "Blowin' in the Wind" is good. I think it's some beautiful folk songwriting, and the rest of the album is unneccessary. I'm exaggerating slightly here, but Bob Dylan seems to be afraid of 3-4 minute songs. It feels as though every song is either 2 minutes long or 6-7 minutes, which means you get these long tedious stretches that feel repetitive (he's not much one for writing bridges, he'd much rather add another verse or 5) and the shorter tracks in between are forgettable because you don't spend enough time in them. This would be a third 2/5 rating for Dylan, but "Blowin' in the Wind" has got me feeling generous.
👍👍👍 hatte eigtl schon was geschrieben wahrscheinlich nicht gespeichert würd ich jz nicht so hören die musik aber sonst 👍
Clearly iconic, but not my taste
First few songs were stellar but the album lost steam for me. 3/5
Bob Dylan and I don’t really have any direct connection. But listening to “Masters of War” made me think of Sheryl Crow’s “Redemption Day.” Realizing how many artists I already know have been influenced by him makes me feel strangely aware that I’ve been affected by Dylan too — indirectly, at least. It’s a curious feeling. And no matter what or how he sings, it still sounds unmistakably like Bob Dylan.
A nice easy listen
Well, everyone had to start somewhere, and while this isn't his debut it's still an interesting album from an early stage in his career. A lot of people consider it one of his best, but I really think he improved after this. It starts super strong with the first 3 songs which showcase great lyricism and a very nice voice, but the rest of the album can be a bit inconsistent. I think it would be really cool if he re-recorder some of these songs later into his career. The production further into the album is simply not always super memorable, there is a bunch of songs that take a more blues sound and I can't say it suits him that well. The vocals aren't as strong as on his later albums either. It's an admirable album but not very consistent and he only got better from there
Not something I'd choose to listen to on my own. Some songs remain highly relevant for 2026. The harmonica sometimes felt like nails on a chalkboard. I'd give it a 3.5, but don't feel like I could bump it up to a 4.
It seems unbelievable that I’ve never listened to this before. Things that I didn’t like: the faux old man persona, the harmonica. Things that surprised me: I didn’t expect it to be as direct, personal and irreverent lyrically. In some ways it feels quite contemporary. I probably won’t rush to listen again, but I’ve broken my Dylan bias at least
Every time I see a Bob Dylan album I think of Kevin Kline in French Kiss pronouncing his name as Bub Deelahn. Otherwise, all of his music sounds the same to me.
Well, Bob Dylan as raw as it gets, a trip to the past but certainly not his best album. Pretty good though.
You know what I'm noticing for the first time is how much the like Stomp & Holler, Mumford & Sons stuff wouldn't exist without Bob Dylan. Also Noah Kahn is like... modern bob Dylan. and maybe a little bit cozier, although I feel like because he's Irish he has a different ethos he provides, in a way that Noah Kahn is very American. It like if Noah Kahn's American folk music and locality had a little bit more protest music to it. Although im not going to lie, I really am sad about the lack of protest music these days. Any that are out there are corny af, and any that have teeth get sun snoozefest critique by liberals... like no reason to make it cause there's no semi-mono culture at all. ugh. booooo. good news is this album is still very prescient.
always down for some anti-establishment tunes just not the biggest folk fan
I’m not a huge fan of this type of genre, some of the songs I didn’t really liked but they were two that I did enjoyed sounds are mostly country
3.5
I don't think Bob Dylan had a pretty voice; however, it worked for folk music which is the type of music in which Bob started out in the music industry. I don't think there is any denying of his talent in the writing of songs; however, I preferred his music when other people sang his songs. Does anybody else find it hard to listen to a harmonica? The higher notes make me teeth ache and after a while I just find it irritating. Best song: Corrina, Corrina.
I like to pronounce it “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dealin’”
Bob Dylan performed this record 60 years ago and the struggles he sings about continue do be struggles of the common man in modern America. Masters of War is a stark song that reflects global and American conflict so well and Dylan's hatred for war, I paused when the song was over to think about how it still reflects modern life. Dylan's lyrics are incredibly evocative, whether he's singing of a girl or of protests. The harmonica can be brash at times, but also melancholy and sweet. The second half of the album does drag on, especially with World War III Blues being a 6 minute song where Dylan seems to be drunk, but atleast it's followed up by a really nice tune.
Really nice guitar playing here and some interesting lyrics. But I feel like most of the songs sound too similar.
mm no me encantó la vdd, con el tiempo tal vez
Pretty good. I liked some songs and I didn’t like others. I knew a few songs. I prefer 60’s Dylan to later Dylan.
There’s good songs and there’s okay songs, blowing in the wind WILL make me cry everytime, but I feel not a lot else I can say I would go back specifically to listen to 6.5/10 I’ve also listened to maybe 2 full folk albums in my entire life willingly, so take this review with a large grain of salt
Decent
It sounds good for the 60’s and liked really two songs but I can tell it’s not for me.
Almost had me at a 4 with a bunch of classics but too many drawn out, meandering strum strum strum harmonica songs with random-ass lyrics at the end.
i wish i got all the way through but i was under-stimulated im sorry bob dylan
First Bob Dylan album I ever listened to. I enjoyed it more than I anticipated. Decent opinions.
Eh not too sure how I feel about the harmonica. This was a sweet album though, albeit a little too repetitive with the melodies and sometimes it seemed to just go on and on
Not as good as The Best of Bob Dylan.
If you like a white boy speaking truth & playing guitar, then this is literally the peak of the genre. But if we're talking strictly Bob Dylan, he did better. Not really any bops on this one. Although it's gotta be said, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall is breathtaking.
Whiny voice with decent lyrics and music...on the fence with Dylan
The sounds are so interesting but this is definitely not my style. But it still gave romanticizing my life vibe paired with a beautiful sunset I reached flow state
I know a few of these songs and they’re featured in the Bob Dylan movie I saw earlier this year. I really enjoy this era of Dylan. Good overall album! The one hang up for me is the overuse of harmonica. It is a bit overbearing in most songs
not my style
This is the third Dylan album I've had during this project. I couldn't stand the first two, but this one wasn't too bad.
7th Dylan album I've had on this list. This one is pretty typical of what I expect from him. There were a couple of nice surprises. Masters of War is a masterpiece (though I prefer the Mark Arm cover because well... again, Dylan's voice.) Down The Highway with its foundation in delta style blues was cool too. The rest of the mumbly folk on here I'm ok with never hearing again.
I finally get a non 70s rock album from cis men. 60s folk from a cis man instead! Another album I’ve heard dozens of times in my life. Some Dylan standards like Blowing in the Wind & Girl From the North Country and other great tracks but a few uninteresting tracks like Down the Highway drag it down for me. A decent album but I’ve always seen it as Bob’s most overrated.
Three songs that are Really Great and a lot that are mid
Not to be too negative about Bob Dylan, he does have two or three pretty songs in there... and 10 others which also are made up of the same elements and you get bored before you finish third like that.
no way out of 1001 albums i got two bob dylan in 5 days
I just think that Bob Dylan's voice is so unvocal that it take away much of the enjoyment of listening to his music. The lyrical genius of Bob Dylan is actually genuinely some of the best to exist at times, but his poor annunciation of literally every word in every song makes me want to stop listening to the album. Sorry Bob, but you just will never be able to be rated highly to me because of your voice. I did love 'blowing in the wind' 'dont think twice, its alright' and 'girl from the north country' though.
I don't know how this works. I'd rate it a 3/5
*A couple great songs but I just can't get into Dylan.
Not a big Dylan fan, however this album is quite well done by him. It just is a bit too monotonous for my liking. The hits are there and stand out because they are well known, but the rest of the album lacks standout moments for me. 3/5
Didn't want to like this, a few tracks did stand out. Can see why it was big in its time.
Oh Bobby, obviously has some of my faves and also some of his worst. Whatever.
A couple of really beautifully written and timeless songs, and of course highly influential for its time, but really just not that interesting of a listen as a whole. Favorite Tracks: Blowin' in the Wind, Don't Think Twice (duh)
nao gostei muito
Best Bob Dylan album of the ones I’ve heard. Saved a few songs. Sometimes the lyricism is awesome, others I’m asking myself what is he rambling about now.
Talkin’ WWIII Blues is a pretty funny song. I think I like folky early Dylan better than 70's harmonica rock Dylan. This one is a nice little album, pretty dense lyrically (as he does) but much more accessible in my opinion than some later work.
This is actually the first Dylan album that I have actually listened to. Definitely strong singer songwriter props, which scores high in my book, need to fully acquire that nasally voice to move up. I see from other comments that this is just the start or a BD journey throughout this list. Let’s see if he moves up or down from here.
I loathe Bob Dylan. But this one was not so bad - especially his voice was not as annoying as I remembered him.
I don’t know. After a while Bob Dylan just bores me
Songwriting is fun. Bob Dylan just isn’t really my thing. 3/5 regardless.
Still find that it’s more that I respect Dylan rather than love his work. This album is pretty frontloaded. Blowing in the Wind naturally best one here, Dylan’s Blues probably my favorite of stuff I’d never heard before
Some absolute classics like hard rain blowing in the wind and dont think twice.
nice songs, but not so wonderful albums. still love the man and vibe, from time to time
Other than the odd moment when the harmonica makes me want to rip my ears off, it's great.
I don't mind his voice. I like the music. I can get into the words. But goddammit I hate the harmonica. 2.5/5
Звучит приятно, но надо переводить.
Bättre än andra Bob Dylangrejer jag har hört, men vet inte riktigt när jag skulle dra igång ett sånt här album.
Decent
I am a card carrying Dylan hater. I do however have a lot more respect for the early part of his career before his vocals changed for the even worse. One of the greatest songwriters of all time having such a grating voice is such a shame. 5 Stars for the songs, max of a 3 for Dylan.
Some good songs but it's all a bit parpy parpy. Of its time I'm sure but sounds a bit superficial and lacking emotional depth for me.
Decent but also lackluster
After recently seeing the film about Bob Dylan, this is extra nice to hear
I'm not a Dylan guy, but I've softened on him over the years. Masters of War is a masterstroke and maybe the best anti-war song of the 60s. Other highlights: Don't Think Twice, It's Alright, Corrina, Corrina
11/14/25. Not the biggest Bob Dylan person, but can't deny the impact this album has. Great storytelling and lyrics, however I don't like Dylan's voice. Still respect his music.
Fine album but I got a little tired of Bob Dylan around Talkin' World War III Blues
Good album. Early Bobby is quite enjoyable
Old school folk. The storytelling is great, but most other aspects of this album are kinda boring to me.
way more palatable than every other Dylan album on this list. Not bad, its okay, way more musically inclined and Bob carries a tune a little better than usual.
Hey Bobby D you know what sucks… a 12 second high note played on the harmonica.
Classic
Timothee Chalamet did so much in that one movie that I now picture him when I listen to Bob Dylan. Anyway this is pretty much exactly what you'd expect
This was ok. I didn't save any songs specifically, but this was enjoyable, other than the harmonica that borders on shrill.
Again it's a talk show with some music to it. I don't really feel it as much as the others I've heard, but it goes down just fine.
Fine. Not a Dylan fan really.
112/1089 Blowing in the Wind is a cute classic but that Harmonica is very grating to me. genuinely really like the song except from that part once again really liked Girl from the North Country but then the harmonica comes in and takes me out of it. it’s more bearable here though, until the awful long note at the end The disgust and scorn in Masters of War is palpable wow The harmonica in Bob Dylan’s Blues was soo much better overall a really nice album, i totally get the importance of Dylan and his music, his voice and style is singular. It’s not music that i’ll be listening to loads hence the score but i fully appreciate the impact faves: Masters of War, A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall, Girl from the North Country, Blowin’ in the Wind least fave: the screechy harmonica jumpscares 66/100
Probs important but bored
Not too bad, but can he please stop with that damn harmonica.
Not as bad as I expected. He sings better than on some of his other records. The music is quite boring at times, but there's also some good songs. Favorite song: Corrina Corrina.
Blowin' in the Wind, Girl from the North Country and Don't Think Twice, It's All Right are classics, but the rest of this album is quite boring. Sorry, Bob.
This is way better than when he went electric. I can actually understand him. Too bad he's a terrible lyricist.
Need to be in the right mood for some folk. But good story telling. Enjoyed Masters of War
Good album but you either like or don’t like Dylan. If you don’t, you’ll say it’s a bunch of gibberish and all the songs are similar. If you like him, you’ll listen to the lyrics and appreciate the musician he is. 3 really great songs worth downloading to a playlist.
I love Bob Dylan, but most of this falls flat for me. I get to say that with the experience of having the years since when others have come along and tuned some of these more folkier styles up. There's no denying this influenced John Prine, but he also came along and did it better.
political yeehaw
romantic type yee haw! always wanted to love bob dylan but.... i just cant.
Appreciate this album and its historical importance. Songwriting masterclass, and a great folk album, and dare i say, a great harmonica album. Good for what it was. 3/5
Prefer the full band albums but this wasn’t bad. Nice songwriting but some drag on.
I’m not always a fan of Bob Dylan or this era of Folk music. This was an okay album.
I'm quite tepid on Bob Dylan as an artist, but I must say that the first few tracks here are quite strong. "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Masters of War" are effective protest songs (right in Bob's wheelhouse). "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" is another notable protest song, but more of a direct response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The only other notable track to me was "Girl from the North Country", a love song of sorts with the subject of the "girl" being intentionally vague. The rest of the album doesn't quite stack up IMO. I can recognize that this album houses some of the Bob Dylan "essentials", however.
Same as other "influential" albums of that period in time: I do not have the context to know how big it was at the time. That being said, it's a Bob Dylan record. A lot of classics and timeless songs, just not really my style. And his voice can be pretty devisive. It does not bother me, but I can see why to someone it does... overall, it's a listeanable record, but you really need to like the author and the genre to give if 4+ stars.
По музыке однообразно. Тест в полной мере не могу оценить. Плохо владею языком.
Not a huge fan of mumbling acoustic guitar guy in general, but I really liked the imagery in A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, and the Abraham Lincoln joke in Talkin World War III Blues.
Ich will Bob Dylan hassen mit seiner Stimme und seiner Mundharmonika, aber manchmal ist es dann doch gut.
Rating: 6/10 More folky Dylan which I think is inferior to his other albums on the list. Still a fun listen, did not care for a lot of it though.
Album No. 0035 on my list. This is my 3rd Dylan album within a month (and the 2nd within a week). The ones I previously reviewed were “Highway 61 Revisited” and “Blonde on Blonde”, so both albums from the 60s as well, but from Dylan’s electric periods. And I have to say, I like electric Dylan better. While “Blowing in the Wind” is arguably his most memorable song (contested perhaps by “Like a Rolling Stone”), the others are much less so. Maybe I’m just not that much into folk. I liked “Girl from the North Country” and “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” as well, and the rest of the songs are not necessarily bad, but to be frank, the songs bore me out a little. Maybe it’s the album’s age, maybe - again - folk doesn’t appeal to me that much. Still, not a bad album obviously, and I get why it is on the 1001 album list. 3/5 stars.
Some good songs on this, but after a while, it bores me.
Country vibes
Sounds at times like Bob Dylan doing an impersonation of Norm MacDonald doing an impersonation of Bob Dylan. Probably a 4/5 album, but only a 3/5 when compared to the rest of Bob's catalogue.
Ok
As someone who doesn't particularly like Bob Dylan, I actually thought this was a pretty decent listen. A number of songs on here are iconic, even as a non-fan (Don't Think Twice and Blowin' in the Wind are probably the top two). The rest of the tracks really aren't that bad either. Part of my issue with Dylan is that his voice/style is very grating. I can listen to him for a few minutes, but the longer he goes, the worse it gets. Generally, even when I like his songs, I prefer versions of them by other artists over his own. Here, the issue was muted a little bit, as he really wasn't as overbearing as I am used to. When he started to get too bad, he often broke it up with a song that soothed the feeling somewhat. That said, I think I would've liked the album more if it were shorter. A few songs really didn't add very much except making the runtime longer (and my tolerance thinner). As a whole, the album was solid-to-good, with very little I would call plain bad. Notwithstanding my feelings for Dylan as a performer, I liked many of the songs here. I'm not sure if I'll ever listen to it again, but it at least was a good listen this time. Overall: 3.3/5
Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan - the king of making songs that other people do better
A classic!
I still think Bob Dylan is too full of himself for his own good, but this album hits hard right now - particularly Masters of War
It was Alr, to slow and couldn’t enjoy without chewing on grass
Too slow for me but if I owned a ford f100 and smoked Marlboros shit would be fire
Good album! Great old school Bob Dylan! One of his classics!
Good folk music. A little slow for my taste. Thank you

I’m not a big Bob Dylan fan but the more I listened to this album the more I found things I liked about it. It was a rainy dreary day and this album matched it well in my opinion. I still wouldn’t call myself a fan but I do have more appreciation for his music now and I think I understand the appeal. Added to Library: Blowin in the Wind Girl from the North Country Masters of War Down the Highway
I enjoyed it was a good listen
There's nothing quite like someone sitting down and singing their heart out while playing the acoustic guitar. The album, while somewhat simple, is very pretty and the type of music I imagine being listened to around a campfire (in a good way). Bob Dylan doesn't exactly have my favorite voice, but I think it works with this style of music. It isn't an album that I felt too strongly about either way, but it's a nice, pleasant listen.
Bestimmt n gutes Album nur nicht meine Musik
Clearly on the list for a great reason but Dylan went far beyond this with time.
I like when he is doing folk more than the blues. Blowin' in the Wind and Don't Think Twice are good songs. I didn't enjoy this listen. The guy can write some good lyrics tho sonically most of it wasn't working for me.
I liked this more than I expected, especially Masters of War. I really liked the bitterness at the end; it'll stick with me so I can pass it on... I'm not really turned on by lyrics. I prefer my music to be loud, upbeat and fun, but actually this did make me pay attention. Probably because not a lot else is going on. It works though. It's even quite annoying, but I get it. Hateful old bastards ought to listen and remember what it was like to care about, well, anything besides themselves. It's not something I'd actively stick on, but I'm glad I listened.
Every night you stare at the same spreadsheet even though it hasn't changed in weeks. The focus shifts from hope to despair and back again over the same question: is Quinn Hughes the man? *wails on the harmonica* 3.5
The opening 2 songs are great. Girl From the North Country has sentimental value for me. After that the album faded to the background while I was working so I didn’t really get to dig in. Which is a shame, because there’s a lot going on in the lyrics. I don’t know a lot about Dylan but I did watch A Complete Unknown. It seems he didn’t like the mantle of protest singer/voice of a generation that this album saddled him with. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing from Bob many more times in this challenge.
Boring whiny voice
Not a bob Dylan fan. Music from this era is difficult because I feel like "you just had to be there" I "get" it, like I get why it was popular and iconic but it's not for me.
tranquille ça a bien fitté avec ma marche du matin
Important album … great songs… never could get used to his voice .. 3 stars
Negaliu patikėti, bet nebuvo blogai. Jo, armonika griežė per dantis, bet tekstukas įdomus, balsas neįkirus, visai nieko.
Who doesn’t know Bob Dylan? I have yet to watch the recent movie that came out about him, but I have seen the Girl from the North Country Musical based on his music, it was okay. I can’t say the harmonica was what I wanted to listen to first thing in the morning. If I’m being honest with myself…. I respect and recognize Bob Dylan’s music, but don’t often want to listen to it.
And all the boomers gave up
Fav: I Shall Be Free Least Fav: Bob Dylan’s Blues Bob Dylan try not to use a harmonica after speaking every 5 words
Another album you probably had to be there for. Still holds up as good folk music, but nothing special. Good voice, good story telling, but too much same same.
I kinda liked it, even though Bob Dylan's voice isn't my favorite. But I really can't stand the harmonic, it makes my ears bleed.
7/10
I don’t really like Bob Dylan. But listening to this album taught me that I do like Bob Dylan’s lyrics. In another universe, there’s an Elton John/Bernie Taupin arrangement where the Bob Dylan teams up with someone who’s actually good at singing, and in that universe, I love Bob Dylan. But this is the universe I’m stuck in…
I think Bob was what the people needed at the time, but I have a hars time connecting with him today. Also not a huge fan of the screeching shrill of the harmonica. Too much!
Eher nervig.
Standouts Blowin' in the Wind Masters of War Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
It's fine. It's Dylan. We'll see him a lot on this
This is Dylan's second album, thought it was going to be a little more energetic, but this one was a very soft one, good to listen to once in a while, but not a favorite of mine.
When I saw I had another Bob Dylan album my eyes rolled back in my head. I get pretty sick on Bob Dylan quite quickly. Don't get me wrong, I think he is super talented but his voice just gets on my nerves after a while. This was a bit of a pleasant surprise to me. Could we do without the strummy songs, sure, is the harmonica annoying at times, also sure, does his voice still get on my nerves.... yup. But I still enjoyed this album more than I thought I would.
I respect Bob Dylan, but I can’t stand Bob Dylan
Not really my jam. How old was he on this? He sounds like a grandpa. He's one of the great songwriters, but I don't get into this type of folk music. Plus, I don't like his voice. I'll give this a 3.75 out of respect for him. I also liked Masters of War greatly. Fuck war, and fuck the psychopaths that instigate, support and perpetuate war.
I really tried to convince myself I liked this when I was going through the Rolling Stone top 500 in high school! But now, a decade later, I don't really care for half these songs, and the harmonica isn't nearly as charming as I remembered. "Blowing in the Wind" and "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" are both still great, but mostly, I only have time for electric Dylan.
Decent, some good tunes. But got pretty repetitive by the end
I guess this is the album all of his good stuff was on. I liked most of it.
The closest I’ve come to “getting it”
*in a gravelly voice* His whole shtizk got kind of old after a few songs *harmonica solo*
On aime ou on aime pas, surtout au niveau de la voix. Une toune ou deux ça va, mais le style devient répétitif rapidement.
not bad, just not my bag. "I Shall Be Free" and "Blowin in the Wind" are favs
To misquote Tom Wilson: "He played like the dumb guys, but then these words came out. " He doesn't even sing half the time! The folk songs are fine I suppose. The blues tracks are alright I guess. I just feel like I've sat around a fire with a dude with a guitar who is every bit as good as this about a million times in my life. You could say that they were all following in Dylan's footsteps but Dylan was just following in Woody Guthrie's footsteps. Maybe I'm being unfair but I feel like Dylan's success is a symptom of the zeitgeist rather than the man himself.
Ok the lyrics were fire, but there wasn't much to go off of instrument-wise. Gave me the same feeling I had with the Simon and Garfunkel album. Fave song: Masters of War
This is your GOAT? Favourite Song: Blowin in the Wind
good, overall enjoyed it
twas pretty good
Bob Dylan is, without a doubt, the voice of a generation… just not MY generation. Important, for sure… but for GenX’ers like me, it just doesn’t hit. Listening to this record is a bit of a chore, but it’s also not half bad.
Always and forever Dylan
Enjoyed this a lot more than I originally expected. It didn't necessarily grab me a lot, but in general it's a very pleasant listen.
Nice, poetic
The songs are awesome, the writing superb, his voice awful. Other than that it was great!
I've listened to this 4 or 5 times now. I'm liking it a bit more than the first go, but I just can't do his voice, or the abundant harmonica. So much harmonica.... This might be important, but doesn't mean I like it.
Makes me happy to be an American in these dark times
it's good obviously, i'm just not the biggest folk music listener
It was fine
Soft music, strong message. I like it.
Pretty good
Think I got this CD when I was 19 in the last hurrah of Columbia House / BMG and had it for about 20 years. In that time I never listened to it all the way through. I realize now why not. Blowin' in the Wind, Girl From the North Country, and Don't Think Twice, It's All Right still hum for me. Mainly as I listened to it I developed a further appreciation for Timothy Chalamet's performance - although I still haven't made it all the way through that either.
Bob Dylan is prolific songwriter but, a really crappy singer. “Blowin’ In The Wind”, “Masters Of War” and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” are masterpieces. His stream of consciousness songs really suck, though.
nice
Couple of classics. Gets repetitive though.
2.5
Take the harmonica away from Bob please, but other than that, this was maybe the best Dylan album we've had. This is the kind of anti-establishment stuff I knew he had written and performed and for the most part it all takes off. I still don't like his voice and the harmonica playing but the songwriting is good enough. I actually made it through this one.
How many Bob Dylan albums must a man listen to before you can say OI BRUV THIS IS TOO MUCH BOB DYLAN This was the least aggravating of the Bob Dylan we've had. Dare I stay listenable.
nice classic album
Timely pick, having recently watched A Complete Unknown, which focuses a lot on this time in Robert's life. We're listening to rarified folk music air. This album has almost mystical properties to folk and Dylan devotees, as it should. Even someone with only enough folk music knowledge to be dangerous, I recognize the importance of this album in the thread of 60s culture and music. Other than the obvious smashes, I've always loved 'Girl from the North Country' - just a beauty. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall still seems incredibly relevant. Don't Think Twice is an incredible break-up song. I Shall Be Free is fun. Great chill folk album - captures a certain time and place as all good music does.
This was good. Not good enough to hear on a regular basis. 3/5
bob dylan is dece
Of course familiar with Bob Dylan's work from popular culture, radio, movies, etc. This was my first time ever listening to a Bob Dylan album and I was frankly surprised how clear the lyrics were - I guess he didn't start slurring until later? The songs are poetic, no doubt. The nasally voice and intonation takes some getting used to. The harmonica is too much, too long, and too loud in several spots. I was ready to rate this a 4 based on the first 3 songs and frankly first half of the album. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall and Don't Think Twice, It's All Right were bright spots. To this point I am thinking 'you have to love Bob Dylan and this album for the movies and scenes these songs inspired - like they were made for one another from the beginning'. And then the 2nd half kicks in, particularly Talkin WW3 Blues and I Shall Be Free and the free associating scatting becomes super annoying and downright comical. What happened? Should have ended this one 4 songs sooner. I might come back and explore as time permits. Then again maybe not. 3/5
fora, ovdje još ne pjeva u toliko mjeri sebi karakterističnim glasom
OK, men inte mycket mer. Jag lyssnar inte mycket på texter, misstänker att det är pga dom Dylan är högt ansedd.
I liked it, but a full album of Dylan is a lot all at once.
great stories, but all the songs sound the same...
Don’t love acoustic Bob, even though this has some early iconic songs and some funny lyrics here and there.
Respectfully, I just can’t.
Wild. Bob Dylan’s never really “clicked” for me, but this was weird and fun. Still not really my music style, but surprisingly funny. I don’t know that I’ll ever like it more than ironically, but this album was a good time.
It was okay, not great I dont get all the fuss but good lyrics to some of the songs.
Good record
Blowin' in the Wind was a great start, and Girl from the North Country was a great song. But later, the album was more country. Started great, then got bad but sort of bearable. Overall, not my vibe, but gives off oldies, classic, something you listen to while driving with an older person.
3.5 Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Folkie Americana - chilled - with some classics in the mix
Great songwriting and stories. Unfortunately every song gets into the same pattern, same style of singing , some harmonica riffs and rhythmic guitars. I was bored after a couple of songs.
Half excellent. Half filled. 3.5 stars
I feel like this album marks a shift in what we meant when we talk about folk music. It used to be folk was actually music played by regular people, songs everyone knew some version of. Somewhere around this time it became a genre of music that was originally composed songs that imitated folk songs.
Not my thing
pretty dece and better than bob marley I think
I haven't listened to this in easily 12 years. Very nostalgic, wordy yet wise. Melodies are relaxing and remind me of a long road trip down a dirt road singing songs of today, yesterday, and tomorrow.
I kinda adore how how Bobs says 'NOOORTH country' but I gotta say I prefer the later version. This one feels cobbled together in comparisons. The atmosphere and guitar of 'Masters of War' is perfect. Bob Dylan really has a hell of a voice despite not being a stereotypical singing voice. It's an instrument in it's own right, and some of the long vowels in 'Down the Highway' reminds me of old ritual chanting. I like Corrina, Corrina. It's a fun little ditty. This album for sure deserves a relisten. I'm not sure I've absorbed the whole album yet. A 4/5, certainly. Maybe it might even increase later. Favourite Songs...so far. Masters of War Down the Highway Corrina, Corrina Edited on 17 June. 3/5.
Dylan's defining album
PLEASE put the harmonica down bob. im begging
Did not realize Ryan Adams was a Bob Dylan cosplayer. I like the harmonica, I really like Girl from the North Country, the rest was ok.
Look, I like Dylan but in spurts. Forgettable.
I was familiar with some of the songs and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't seek it out to relisten.
Favorites: Blowin' In The Wind, Dont Think Twice Its Alright,
It's fine. Background music for me. 3 stars

*Ramble for a bit* *Harmonica solo* *Ramble again* *Another harmonica solo* *end of song* I’m just kidding (a little bit). This album has some bangers for sure: Blowin in the Wind, Masters of War, Bob Dylan’s Blues/Dream. But it’s a tad too raw for me. He’s still coming into his own here and hasn’t yet hit the peaks as a songwriter and performer that he one day will
Nup, he just doesn't do it for me.
Unfortunately I think I like the idea of Bob Dylan more than I actually like Bob Dylan
Already a fan of this album and some other Dylan stuff! I don’t love every song but the ones i do like i really love! Very warm and ‘alive’ production + ADORE a harmonica! Top 3 1. blowin in the win 2. girl from the north country 3. corrina, corrina
6/10 not my preferred style got a bit repetitive for me but I love the narrative style & storytelling & the more political tracks
I appreciate Bob Dylan’s folk music, but this album is probably not something I’ll come back to listen to. I really like one or two songs on the album, the rest are ok.
Good background wfh music but just one person's voice for too long wasn't for me (soz as of course he is a musical legend)
Acoustic Folk Singer Songwriter Interesting instrumentals
Can see why Bob's a legend. There's some good tunes on here but didn't love them all but can see why it's good
I like it a lot more than I did as a kid. I see it now when, as a child, it just sounded like a nasally whine. But a message; each song a plea. Dylan is a minimalist; every stroke raw but exact. It's still not my album, and listening is work. That's work worth doing—or better yet, let it do work as a backdrop. How much does it cost to license Dylan for our documentary? Wait, really? Nevermind.
Too wordy and needed more of a best -h.k
Enjoyed and realised I never listened to much bob Dylan before, found I was spacing out for most of the time so wouldn’t be my cup of tea but still enjoyed it.
I mean, my obvious bias a side, again, it was of it’s time and original, in many ways. Just feels a little repetitive, same kind of melodies and structures. Some good lyrics, songs and melodies, but kinda just felt like once I'd hear 1 song, I’d heard them all. Some clever plays on words and structure/chords, but ultimately, just ended up being minor variations on a theme, throughout.
His voice is surely an acquired taste, but there is no doubt he’s a lyrical master. Some truly exceptional songs are on here - “Masters of War” in particular. I liked it more than I expected. Would I seek it out? Probably not, but I’d add a few tracks to a general playlist.
Not much of a bob fan but there are some good songs on here - corina, dont think twice, north country girl. The harmonica playing gets pretty annoying and i dont like his rambling.
This album (and Dylan in general) should be everything I ask for in an album/artist but I just simply cannot stand listening to him. I don't think it's even fair for me to rate it. Yes it's excellent, yes he's a great writer, yes how impressive at the age of 21, and yet...
Thank god Bob Dylan invented the electric guitar just a couple years after this, because, for all the immortal gems on here, this drags a lot.
Not my favourite Dylan Album but still good 3.9/5
I was looking forward to listening to this album after watching The Complete Unknown a few weeks ago. Fun to see how he got started. I recognized and enjoyed several of the songs, but not so much some others. Hard to not like Bob and his harmonica, though.
I understand that this was a very influential album it’s just not my personal favourite of Dylan’s
Classic folk. I can’t believe Bob was only 22 when he released this album. He has an old soul and such a mature, gravelly voice. A lot of personality and a good storyteller. Most of the songs sound a bit samey though. And that harmonica is definitely… loud.
You really need to be in the mood for Dylan.
Good, but certainly not his best work.
there are certainly worse albums on the list
