Reviews (page 11 of 14)

Bob as a writer is undeniable. As a composer of music, pretty damn good. As a singer, an acquired taste. But for as good as the songs themselves are, structurally and lyrically, the sparseness of his earlier works lacks a little something for me.

Harmonica :)

Always a bit unsure about Dylan though I liked this more than I thought. Can’t really say I don’t when I listen to Laura Marling. Not a harmonica fan though, it hurt my ears at times on the earphones. I want to give this a 3.5

Least favourite Dylan so far, ear bleeding.

Good, not great.

It was Bob Dylan, pretty good, pretty Dylan

Very typical Bob Dylan - A few fabulous songs and the rest is dreck.

ja wel oke

Dated basic country music. Probably very compelling at the time but listening to it now I don't have any strong feelings. Bob's voice is grating but listenable. The solitary harmonica is very musically lacking and not as emotional as Bob thought it was in my opinion. The lyrics are too conversational and not very unique. He's certainly not the lyricist that everyone makes him out to be. Not bad, just nothing special. The themes are good; racial justice and ptsd awareness are especially important even to this day and I respect him, especially as a country artist for talking about them. That said it is very on the nose and lacks anything new to bring to the table. That may be because of the age although there were definitely people talking about racism with more complex and poignant takes even at the time; specifically artists of colour. The romantic parts are boring and honestly I switched off. The overall sound is average and could pass as background music. and none of the songs are particularly different from any of the others

the music feels quite okay although I usually don't listen to it. I already knew "Masters of War" and loved it.

Classic Dylan

He can't play harmonica or sing but these are darn good songs.

Technically speaking this is very good, and I also really like some of Bob Dylan’s other work, but this is just a bit too primitive for my liking.

put this one down as pleasant surprise; like many I'm not usually one for Bob Dylan's voice, but i didn't mind it here and the song writing is pretty good as per usual. but a lot of it feels kind of samey to me, and i can only listen to so much harmonica

I knew the first song (Blowing in the Wind) but none of the others. Bob Dylan has a very unique delivery style and it's one that I don't mind. This album makes for very good study (coffee-shop) music, kind of like the Bruce Springsteen album.

5.5/10 Highlights: Dont Think Twice Its Alright Talkin World War III Blues

harmonica hurt my ear! some bangers, some fine. You gotta be into politics/lyrics for this one.

Bob is Bobbin'

Respect him but this bored me

Don't think twice it's alright is pure gold

Very dense lyrically, beautiful guitar. Slow to get through for me.

Some nice songs don't love his voice, enjoyed few songs after blowing in the wind

Is Bob Dylan another one of those artists that I just had to be there for to really get it? This album starts off strong, but by the end it came off as a bunch of barely incoherent rambling.

Folky, only guitar and harmonica. Good album but not fully my vibe

3 but idk, kinda weird

An OK listen, harmonica is brutal in places

Never listened to more than one consecutive Bob Dylan song before. His voice is sometimes pretty goofy haha, but I enjoyed the listen. 3.5/5

Thank u Robert for a fun jangly album

Enjoyed it but will need to relisten

The harmonica is evil.

Like all his albums, great melodies and lyrics. But man does he just talk over his tracks? Singing is horrible.

The music is just boring, and I don't like the harmonica or Dylan's vocals. The political messages are pretty impressive for the 60s, so plus a star for that.

It was OK. I listened while working and it sort of blended into the background.

Extremely egregious use of harmonica/10 Look, it's Bob Dylan. Cultural impact aside his music just isn't for me. I'll take Neil Young over Dylan any day. Sorry.

Cool tunes, not loving using voice still

First exposure to Bob Dylan and the album almost brought me to tears. I don't love the genre though... I feel conflicted

Not my favorite Dylan album ever. I prefer Highway 61 over this one. Great lyrical content as usual for Dylan but the compositions on this one left me wanting.

A few songs I liked over the years but a lot of boring folk.

Great album. I like about half the songs.

I never want to hear the harmonica again.

Generic ok.

Very classic Bob Dylan, great song writing Sometimes odd or grating songs Nothing I would add to a playlist

Not a big Dylan fan but here we go! 1. Someone get her a harmonica!! 3. Lyrics are good. 4. Song sucks 6. I like this song. 9. Love this song but crooked still’s version is better. Didn’t realize this was a Dylan song! His voice really bothers me. I really don’t get it.

Ok... just ok.

I started this on the plane, and was actually enjoying it, but then it started to just feel like the same song over and over...Dylan lyrics + harmonica. But then the last two songs were soooo Dylan and so nonsensical. JFK asks him how to grow the country and he says Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren, and he's got a woman who works all the time so he doesn't...yeah.

It's poetry for sure. Really showcases some of the roots of country and blues. It's not for me. Too slow, not enough tempo.

Not really my thing

The harmonica is such a grating instrument. Some of the songs start well and then this awful metallic sound stabs me in the ear drums. I did enjoy parts of this album but I was bracing myself for a magical, ground breaking, mind blowing album based on the way people talk about it. Of all the 80 or so albums I’ve listened to so far I believe this is the most overrated. I think the boomers have rose tinted hearing aids.

Classic, but not my taste :)

I'm not big into folk music so I was surprised that this was better than I thought. He has quite a relaxed, simple style which I liked. Don't think I would listen to it again though. Highlights: Blowin' In The Wing Masters of War Don't Think Twice, It's All Right

Great talent just not quite my style

# 61 : Long and droney, typical Dylan. Great story telling in his songs, but it's not much fun to listen to, unless you're high. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

There’s a few songs on here I like a lot. Every song has the same dang harmonica and guitar on it though which gets boring

Wasn't listening to the lyrics all that much, but man can this guy shred the harmonica. Decent background music, probably better with some active listening.

Pretty solid for what it is, I know Dylan is super influential to so much I listen to and I enjoy what I listen to by him, but it’s never really anything I find myself wanting to come back to save for a couple songs. That said Blowin in the Wind and Don’t think Twice are incredible songs. The rest is OK.

A classic album with some timeless tunes. Still, I was surprised with how underwhelming the overall listening experience was, especially when compared with my expectations.

Wenig mitreißendes Singer-Song-Writer Gedudel.

Not my vibe

I always had this weird preconception that despite not really knowing anything by Bob Dylan, I just wouldn't like it. I think it was his 'spoken' vocal delivery that perhaps put me off. I'm so glad that I've now heard my first full Dylan record. There are some real sparks of genius on this record, and according to my maths he was roughly 22 when he recorded this, despite his voice sounding husky and mature. Favourite tracks: Down the Highway, Don't Think Twice and It's All Right.

pretty nice old folk, nice harmonica, okay songs

Rudimentary folk with stirring lyrics

the opener sounds less like one is listening to a musical artist and more like one is witnessing in moving live colour a great historical firsthand; like napoleon or christ or maybe thats just a bit silly

I like Bob Dylan, but his albums get a bit old partway through.

Decent.

I’m buying what Robert is selling.

Gets old after a bit

Generally good but not great, with Don't Think Twice as an elite song. The creativity is showing and so is the lyrical quality, but the musical maturity isn't there yet.

6/10 girl from the north country - о прошедшей любви с джонни кешем, 6/10 masters of war - сильные слова про войну, 8/10 down the highway - понравилась игра вокалом и снова о любви с джонни кешем только без джонни кеша 7/10 bob dylan's blues - 7/10 xDDDDDD кек a hard rain's a-gonna fall - 6/10 masters of war на минималалках don't think twice it's all right - относись к жизни проще :) 7/10 bob's dylan dream - 9.5/10. 4/10 honey, just allow me one more chance - отличный кавер веселый 8/10 i shall be free - честно без понятия как оценить оставлю так, текст не понял.

At just 22/23, Dylan already sounds like a master of his craft, with songs like Blowin in the Wind, A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall and Don’t Think twice standing the test of time incredibly. There are some other fun songs here and the musicianship is generally impressive, but on the whole it does maybe suffer slightly from a couple of weaker tracks and an overuse of harmonica. Probably the strongest 3 I’m going to give

ANOTHER Bob Dylan. Give me a break. I'm sure lots of people will love it. I just can't get on with it. He always just sounds like a guy doing an impression of Bob Dylan. That said, I did start to enjoy some of these ones, when you push yourself to forget the weird heeny-hoony-wheeny-whoony voice. He's done worse.

I’m sure it’s a classic, but not for me

Not sure if I owned this album back in my college days, but wouldn't surprise me if I did in one form or another because I listened to quite a bit of Dylan's music back then. I don't actively listen to him these days -- haven't for a long, long time -- not because I grew to dislike his music or anything like that; just wasn't motivated to do so. I am glad this project served up this album for me today. It gave me a chance to listen to one of his albums all the way through, especially this one, which I really don't think I've listened to for probably thirty years or so. It's an excellent album. The tracks are sparse, it's one of his first big steps into sharing his original works, and the lyrics are poetry in a very real sense. This album also does a nice job of showcasing his excellent guitar playing. I'm not a big fan of harmonica and because it appears on most of the tracks, it kind of grated on me but that's just a matter of personal preference and I get how it fits with this album's style.

Mmm, c'è "Blowin' in the wind", però in generale non mi piace.

An album of its time, so it gets a three.

I now get what the saying about "young Dylan spiitin' words" is about. I appreciate the wit and I try my hardest to understand that this album is 60 years old, but still not really my kind of music.

I was completely consumed by the storytelling.

Good, gets a little blurry in the end

great early bob dylan

You can have too much Dylan.

rinkydink

Good early Dylan

Grrrrrr...

I really liked a lot of the tracks on here, some really great songwriting. There just comes a point where I kind of can't stand Dylan's voice.

First time I've listened to Bob Dylan. I get it, he's definitely a core example of folk music in the US. Very much like listening to a campfire story told with a guitar

Sure it's great, a masterwork. The aggressive lack of adornment helps the lyrics hit that much harder. But oof, pretty rough to actually listen to. I want to like it more than I actually do.

Some classic songs and early enough that his voice is completely fried. Loved the first side but my interest waned on the second. But most of it still resonates today,

Wow... maybe I'm one of those people who might've been clamoring when Dylan went electric. This is certainly the more palatable version of his art from where I stand. There were even a couple of tunes I downright enjoyed on this album. I'm familiar with "Don't Think Twice," as I used to play that with Jack a while back (channeling my Dylan folk rhymin' dictionary) and "Blowin' In The Wind" is timeless and relevant. There were a couple of others, too. There's even the slightest undercurrent of humor in places (gasp), which is nice. And, god help me, some of the harmonica playing compliments the songs. So look at me, growing as a human and saying nice things about Bob Dylan's music. But, at the end of the day, there's planty here to whine about. But I've spent the morning whining, so I'm going to stay positive. Relatively.

loved it. Classic Dylan. Hes my boy

fine background music, unnoticeable lyrics

Bob Dylan doing his Dylan thing

- some solid songs, including Blowin in the Wind - overall just more Bob Dylan

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I've finally found my first tolerable Dylan LP after getting around 5 or so on this list to date. Helps that he keeps the nasally delivery down on this one and tries out several different kinds of arrangements, leading to an album that has a bit of flow from track to diverse track rather than singer-songwriter acoustic throughout. While the messaging isn't groundbreaking by any means, the overall peace themes are pleasant and I would even consider listening to some of these tracks again.

Better than the other Bob Dylan album I listened to, but there is just something about Dylan that grates on me.

pleasant album to listen to as u go thru ur day

I respect Bob Dylan but meh.

at the risk of just sounding like a contrarian, i'm not crazy about this album. i find it pleasant and i realize it's responsible for catapulting dylan to international fame, but the rootsy folk and dylan's strange vocals are boring and fail to amaze me.

Oldschool Vibe (musste an Last of Us Serie insert tracks denken) gegen Ende des Albums satt gehört weil alles ähnlich klang.

Great first song and wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd anticipated but not my thing. The harmonica isn't my favourite instrument at the best of times so it's presence here wasn't appreciated. Not bad, but not my thing.

I don't dislike this as much as i used to. I get it. not for me though

I get why people love Dylan, I just don't really agree

A great songwriter that cannot sing for shit.

I in general like most music from the '60s but some of the peace love and happiness stuff is tough to listen to it seems like lazy protesting. I blame the drugs.

[Trump Voice] "Freewheelin' Bob" This one has been my favorite Bob Dylan to come across the list so far, still leaves me cold

Huuliharppua ja kitaraa. Perus Bob Dylanin folksoundia

I've listened to most of this album, once, in 2007.

I know Dylan is a big inspiration for the Beatles and what not but I can’t get the clip of him raging about broken glass n calling every1 cats out of my mind

This is the first BD album I have listened to. I respect the man's talent for song writing and what he has done, but it isn't really my thing.

This was the most tolerable I’ve heard Bob Dylan’s voice. I probably should have listened to the words more but the music was okay, if not repetitive.

I’m usually not very keen on Bob Dylan‘s voice. But this album is really beautiful – the lyrics are great, the songs are well put together, and his voice is pretty tolerable.

I learned that I really don't love the harmonica. Other than that, the album front to back is good just not great in my opinion

I can hear the boomer in these songs. Sounds like my father in law (who loves dylan). His voice isn't as annoying, but the harmonica gets grating. The lyrics feel more nonsensical than deep.

Both sides are bookended by strong songs and Masters of War is an anthem, but the talking blues stuff in between isn’t terribly exciting.

Really enjoyed some songs, others were a bit boring so a bit of a hit or miss for me

Has some outstanding tracks but as an album it doesn't do much for me

C'est bon Bob tu crois pas qu'on a saisi ton style là?

A bit too much of a traditional folk album for me. I can appreciate it for what it was doing at the time but doesn't hold up as well as his other stuff for me.

Lots of guitar. It's ok.

Vaikka huuliharppuvälisoitto-puhebiisit on mitä on, tunnelma on aina dylanmainen eli kiva ja hyvä. Lempee albumi.

3 Easy listeninf

easy to listen to

Very peaceful gives a looking at the stars on a warm summer night in the countryside vibe

Teilweise sehr ikonischer sound, seine Mundharmonika verursacht allerdings gehörschaden...

Dylan is always solid but this is not one of my favorite albums.

pretty good.

Good writing and obviously super legendary, but not really my taste !

Classic songs, although not much difference in arrangement meant I found myself getting a bit bored

- Texte inhatlich spannend. - Bob Dylan: Interessante Stimme - Musikalisch eher unfaufregend. - Mundharmonika!

A bunch of small songs with great, poetic lyrics, many of them quite famous. However, the album isn't particularly exciting to listen to regularly.

Already great, but I prefer later Bob.

This album seems to be important to the US in the 60's and Bob Dylan is capable of doing that, however the album it's just repetitive in the music but all the lyrics just represent a moment in history

Y'know, I kinda wanted to like this less but it's actually pretty good. Still not my exact cup o' tea though.

4/13, 31%

Classic

Great lyrics but not a fan of his voice

Kinda repetitivo Bom storytelling Boas melodias Músicas semelhantes Funny at times

The first Bob Dylan album I can actually listen to for a bit. Didn't think this was possible. I'm still not a big folk fan, and I still think that Dylan's voice doesn't lend itself well to singing, but this is surprisingly ... OK. - Huh... Wo would have thought? 3/5

Me agarró depresión pero me gustó

Very hard album to rate. In general, folk and bard-like songs are definitely far from being my favourite genres of music. On the other hand, the influence and impact Bob Dylan had on culture and music is really out of the scale. In cases like this I have to refer to my rule - rating albums as I like them 'right now', without historical context. So if I will look at this album as a fan in 2022 with no prior knowledge of Bob Dylan, I have to say that the album is not that interesting. Musical layer is very basic - simple guitar chords and harmonica, plus Dylan's voice, which I wouldn't call a one to forget. What keeps me into listening, is the lyrics and those songs, that really hypnotise you and push you to feel something (mostly through lyrics). Blowin' in the Wind is a great song, which I will listen to again and again. Hard rain is one of those songs as well. But in general, there is too many forgettable songs on this record. As a person listening to the album 60 years later, I have to say it is an average album.

Very interesting experiences Bob Dylan has…

I know it's Bob Dylan but I'm not a huge fan. Very important artist and all that, but it's just not for me. The harmonica is too much...

This is my favorite Dylan era. Still raw and youthful. Playful and even funny. Yet, with this record, he's also overtly political, and you can hear the frustration building. It's not the best Dylan album, and it's not wall-to-wall classics by any means. But still, this is a classic.

This album surprised me a bit. I had low expectations but I think for the first time in a long time I really heard the appeal of Bob Dylan from many of these songs. I think a lot of it had to do with him staying in his vocal range more and keeping it real simple. I was able to appreciate the songs as a whole and not get distracted by his voice. Probably not something I'd spin again for myself, but would definitely consider it for a backyard gathering or group roadtrip.

Liked this more than any of the other Bob Dylan albums we've listened to. That being said, I still probably wouldn't throw this on ever. 2.75/5

Probably the best of the Bob Dylan albums I've heard thus far but I just can't get properly into him. It was pretty good though.

Probably the best type of Dylan. Like the singer/songwriter vibes. 3/5

Great songwriting, but Bob Dylan's voice annoys me.

This is a good album. I can hear how its sound may have influenced a lot of the modern music l love. There is really nothing wrong with it, but I don't feel like it's something I'm going to reach for after this listen. The only song I listened to a second time was "Oxford Town." I found the harmonica on this album annoying which is a pretty significant compatibility issue between me and most of these songs, lol.

Songwriting was great but Bobs voice is really not for me.

Never been a huge Dylan fan, but I get his importance in the genre.

is that a little smile bob? you dog

Cheeeeelin

Deep lyrics and important music, but a bit samey and unlikely to relisten, mostly enjoyed though. 3.4

6/6/2022 - ALBUM #130 Today's Album: "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" by Bob Dylan - I can confidently say that this album has begun to open my eyes to the brilliance of Bob Dylan's talent as a songwriter. I'm not sure if it's due to simply more exposure or if I this album is unusually accessible, but either way I think that by the time I finished this album, I began to understand why Bob Dylan plays such an important role in the progression of music throughout the 1960s. His incredibly unique and often strange/funny songwriting makes him such a standout force and gigantic influence in singer/song-writer folk Americana. I think this album differs most from Highway 61 Revisited by having stripped back the electric instruments for a barebones acoustic guitar and occasional bass and drums, which helps me really just hear Dylan's songwriting for what it is, which is for the most part very enjoyable. I really shat on Bob Dylan on the live album I reviewed recently, but this album has such better mixing with the harmonica, guitars and vocals and the overall production is so much better, so I don't feel too bad for those earlier thoughts. This album travels a variety of styles for Dylan and it was really nice to hear very few repeated ideas. There are a lot of moments here where the songwriting isn't as strong as others and I think for the most part it is because Dylan isn't taking himself very seriously at this point. It's only his second album of his career at this point and it just seems like a lot of the songs here where the lyrics come across as not taking a very big subject very seriously like on Masters Of War or the structure of the song is just very annoying and hard to follow like on Down The Highway. Overall, I think this album does a lot of things that sort of rub me the wrong way or don't really appeal to me, but the great tracks here really gave me a good insight into what people like about Bob Dylan and I honestly think I am starting to like his singing for as obnoxious it can be at times. It also makes me excited for the post-1089 review of these albums so I can see how I feel about Highway 61 Revisited on the next listen. Give this one a listen if you've never liked Bob Dylan and if you don't like the first song, maybe turn it off. But if you find yourself intrigued, you might find the whole project pretty enjoyable. Highlights: Blowin' in the Wind, "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright", Bob Dylan's Dream, Oxford Town, "Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance" Score: 6.5/10 Bob Dylan's early work enlightening me to his genius.

It’s very pleasant and definitely worth a listen. Good for relaxing to. Great lyrics as always. I could never complain if someone out this album on in the background. Although, it does feel somewhat bare compared to his later albums, as it’s just acoustic guitar and harmonica on this one. There’s a lot of Bob Dylan I like, especially Bringing it all Home and Highway 61. This album doesn’t compare all well to those ones imo. Definitely a few gems worth returning to though

When he starts rambling and vamping for what seems like minutes at a time he loses all interest for me. (e.g. A Hard Rain). I feel like at LEAST once an album he has a song which is just a list of things and it's great the first time but gets old fast. But when he's a lot more focused and seems to have more ideas for melody, he's so good. Even a longish song like I Shall Be Free carries none of the boredom of his less-focused songs.

This is the second Bob Dylan album I’ve gotten from the generator whilst doing this challenge, ‘Blonde on Blonde’ being the first. After listening to ‘Freewheelin’…’, and also doing a bit of digging into artist representation on the whole ‘1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’ list, the sobering reality dawned on me that there’s still another five Dylan albums waiting me…Fuck my life.

Best Song: Don't Think Twice, It's Alright. A nice vocal hook that doesn't meander as badly as some of the other tracks. Worst Song: Down the Highway. This lacks the political or story-telling elements that set apart Dylan's best songs. Instead it just feels like a bit of a stuttering mess that never gets off the ground. Overall: I expected more. I think Bob Dylan is really good when he focuses on a particular topic and tries to tell a tight story. Something like is song Hurricane. Here, too many songs have no clear point and just kind of circle a vague topic before unceremoniously ending. Also I find his rhyme sequences are often simple over-enunciated, as if he's really leaning into the rhyming word to "bounce" off it for emphasis, which gives an almost Seuss-like quality to some tracks.

This felt like classic Dylan but more focused, probably because it was earlier in his career. My fav was Blowing In the Wind.

Listened to on 4/17/22 3.5/5 Favorite song: Blowin’ in the Wind I loved the laid back vibe of this album but the aggressive harmonica was an unwelcome addition to most songs

Decent album will listen to it again to get a better feel for everything.

Enjoyed this a lot more than Blonde on Blonde

I just haven't got Bob Dylan yet

more Bob Dylan started playing after the album was over and I didn't notice it for 30min, it's fine

The harmonica is the worst musical instrument ever.

I enjoy the instrumentation but I've never been a fan of Dylan's vocals.

Some nice tracks, if generally a bit low key and nowhere near as good as some of his other albums on this list.

- i’ve listened to two songs, and the first song was a bit more country for my liking, but i do really like the second song, especially the guitar in it. - really making me want to learn how to play the harmonica - i like the guitar in the back, cant decide if i like the vocals or not. like they are nice, and he’s talented, but i’m not sure if i personally would listen to it all the time. - fourth song is pretty nice :)

Bonne ambiance.

j'ai quand même save 2 chansons

Ægte historiefortælling, blues, akustisk, råt

Marvelous lyrics. Great folk guitar and harmonica. Regretful yet distinctive voice....

Did not rock my socks off but it’s better than Knockin on Heavens door and almost as good as the man in me. I had a good time.

Just listened to "Bringing It All Back Home" so I can't help but compare them, and although this is a good album it doesn't measure up. Obviously "Blowin in the Wind" is an undeniable classic and a powerful, timeless song. The album slows down immediately after that and becomes hit and miss throughout - just had trouble staying engaged with it because of its rambliness.

Hit or miss Dylan for me, a few good tracks but the rest I could leave.

Just not a Dylan fan

Patchy, some great stuff... then some tripe. Seems to be the way of most of Dylan's albums unfortunately.

Three-wheeling Bob Dylan

Genre: Contemporary Folk 3/5 Bob Dylan is, and forever will be, one of the most influential musicians of all time, and is considered a monarch to many in the industry. His influence knows no bounds, and his songs are loved by all ages from all ages. But for me, this all feels to me like one big show. Let me explain. I’m a little in the Zappa camp. By that I mean this folky sound coming from somebody who doesn’t have that cultural background, always sounds a little forced, a little bland, and a little fake to me. However, it is very easy to listen to, and of all Dylan projects I’ve listened to, this is probably my favorite. If you’re into this sort of thing, this’ll be right up your ass. For me, I’ll stick to the heavier stuff.

Pretty good, lots of harmonica. One recognized song

Already somewhat familiar with this album, I only got about 80% through it. Not crazy about early Dylan but there are obviously some classics here.

couple of belters some alright filler. just another one of those ones.

I had low expectations but it exceeded them! Like the lyrics!

Likely to be my top Dylan album. Most songs are shorter, while still showing his excellent songwriting. His singing style is present, but not yet the caricature it eventually becomes

classic Dylan folky rock 3.5

Blowin in the Wind. A Classic. The rest of the album isn't varied enough to retain attention.

Fav new track: A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

Aburrido.

Dylan should write songs not sing them. A bit too folk for me as well

The era when guitar tuning wasn’t all that important - lyrics shine and the songwriting was simple and direct.

It's great folk rock, not really my bag but I can appreciate the musicianship and lyric writing

It's Bob. It's Good. 3/5.

Oh hey, more Bob Dylan...

Less rock and blues and much more folky than other albums of his I have listened to. A bit samey but prefer Dylans vocals on this album.

Stunning in parts, tedious in others. Like a lot of Dylan album this is a mix of Dylan I like and Dylan I tolerate. Some incredible tracks on here though, Masters of War in particular the highlight for me.

Not his best work

Its Bob goodness Guitar sounds so warm kinda like a log fire for the ears Can't deny his songwriting one bit

It's alright, sure is Bob Dylan. His music is pleasant but not especially exciting, I can't say I completely understand why he's so famous

Sounds exactly like I’d expect a Bob Dylan album to sound

I can't listen to a full Bob Dylan album before his voice starts to get annoying.

I will never understand the appeal bob dylan has. I suppose if this were the 60s I may get it. With that said the 1st 2 tracks are good and it does make me feel sentimental

Its not exactly my type of music but it would be a sin to give Bob Dylan a bad rating. A Classic.

Maybe it's the speakers I use but I always find the harmonica is a bit too loud on his records. I appreciate the lyrics however, I'm a bigger of his records that have more diverse song structures, such as Highway 61 revisited.

Bob Dylan is quite hit and miss for me, especially lyrically, but also, the heavy use of harmonica and his vocal style. I liked tracks 1-3 and 7.

i enjoyed about half of the songs, they just all sounded very similar toward the back end

Wow this'll be the first time I listen to a Dylan album all the way through. This is gonna be like listening to Bright Eyes in that there's not a lot going on with the music, its just all about the lyrics. Never really been my style. But the music is ok at least. Down the Highway is some super bluesy soulful shit. Not bad but overall just not my thing. I think I need to go through a singer/songwriter phase to get into this.

I understand for song writing he’s the man and I totally get that... I just don’t think I’m into Dylan and I want to be! It just sounds like a bunch of rambling to me.

Stunning in parts, tedious in others. Like a lot of Dylan album this is a mix of Dylan I like and Dylan I tolerate. Some incredible tracks on here though, Masters of War in particular the highlight for me.

I recognize the artistic and societal impact this album had on other performers in the 1960s, and I enjoyed the window into this bit of history. The music, however, was not my cup of tea.

The album the full of folk acoustic music with good melodic man's vocal.

'Don't think twice it's alright' is the most passive-aggressive song I have ever heard 😅

Bob Dylan is just not my cup of tea I find

Hmmm. Very important / influential, key songs, some beautiful music - would I listen again though?

3.5/5 I will have to listen to this again at some point of my life again and figure if I like it or not.

every dylan album to me has jarring highs and lows. for some reason this morning i lack the patience for the lows. hes made for best ofs

I always feel Dylan stays too in his lane with his albums. Some fantastic songs, but listening to full albums make them all feel very same-y.

Not a favourite. Prefer his late 60's stuff.

Yeah! Like this 👌

Some good stuff and some bits that just passed me by.

Lots of harmonica

3.5 - Interesting as a window into Dylan's evolution as an artist with a singular voice. Besides "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Don't Think Twice...", Dylan sounds like a parrot - a young mind eagerly absorbing a broad array of influences and regurgitating them, sometimes reimagining and reworking certain elements.

Muy Dylan. Armonioso y con banjo

More usa

Mes classiques de cet album restent Blowin' in the wind et Don't think twice, it's all right.

Folk classic. Kind blended together, but classic lyrics

starts mellow but picks up

This is less annoying to me than Blond on Blond. Blowing in the Wind has become a cliche so it's hard to take it seriously. Love Don't Think Twice. Oxford Town was a new song for me and so was I Shall Be Free, which was pretty amusing. I don't hate it but it's also really hard to listen to 50 minutes of Bob Dylan at this point in my life.

Dylan siendo Dylan. Blowin' In The Wind se lleva a todas de calle en popularidad pero Don't Think Twice, It's All Right y Masters Of War se me hacen las mejores.

3 half stars

Clearly a great album. Listened while working and it all kinda blended together.

Some good songs here.

Best midwestern

Not bad, would not actively listen to this album, but not a bad listen Fave Song from Album: Corina, Corina

It's Bob Dylan. I dunno, my favorite song is still Don't think twice. But I didn't dislike it. His voice is annoying sometimes.

It was Bob Dylan. It was okay.

1963. Key Songs: Blowin' in the Wind, Don't Think Twice, It's Alright

idk not really my type, should probably listen again tho

Closer to a 3.5. Its a pretty one dimensional, but theres lots of classics here. The album also serves as a cool historical document for the US during the early 60s, which I find very interesting.

i realized now that for me, bob dylan songs are nice to the ears but i need full concentration to make sense of things. will try to re-listen to these, giving 3 stars for now

I found this audibly relaxing to listen to but I didn’t click with any of the songs.

I’ve enjoyed some of the Bob Dylan albums I’ve listened to in this generator, but it gets old fast. I just can’t listen to much more albums with his voice. I’m burnt out on Dylan. Blowin’ in the Wind is great tho

Big hits but boring af

First Impression: Not a fan of this one. Listened to it twice because I felt like I didn’t really catch the lyrics the first time since I kept zoning out and the music just became background noise. To my disappointment, the second time around wasn’t any better. Also did some research about the meanings of some of his songs, especially after Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right irked me to great lengths. (Just ranting about the song lol. Feel free to skip these paragraphs if you just want the album review.) Dylan’s prose here just comes across as really passive-aggressive and bitter towards a lover who wanted to branch out. He’s shifting the blame onto her because she wanted to follow her dreams, and that just doesn’t sit right with me. If she decides to move to Italy and study what she loves, yeah, it sucks if you’re the one getting left behind, but as someone who genuinely cares about her happiness, autonomy, and fulfilment, I’d expect you to respect that decision. It’s her life. She doesn’t owe you what you want. Of course, it’s entirely natural to feel disappointed and heartbroken when the person you love chooses a different path. My issue is with the way the song handles those feelings. Saying “I don’t mind” and then following it up with “you just kinda wasted my precious time” is so backhanded. Also, “don’t think twice, it’s all right” sounds fine on the surface, but when you actually break down what he’s saying, the implication reads more like, “I’m totally fine and over you,” while spending four verses proving how bitter he actually is. The entire song is basically one big, “Goodbye, and by the way, this is your fault”, without ever communicating the issue! I guess if I step back and look at it more objectively, I can appreciate what it’s doing. It captures the sense of betrayal, bitterness, and resentment you can feel after someone leaves, even if they didn’t actually do anything wrong. Those feelings are deeply flawed, but they’re also very human. I’m not trying to write Dylan off because of one song here, but I do have to say this track is not his best moment. Favourite Track: Blowin in the Wind One sentence: Blues + Folk + slurred Dylan speech + lacklustre instrumentals = this album Will I revisit? No

Really, I don’t have any patience for him, no means no. Feels like I'm back in high school, and I still don't get the lyrics at all. It's not that I hate Bob Dylan, it's that I really hate people who pretend to understand his lyrics.

Bob Dylan overrated, the harmonica has got to stop

i have some not nice things to say about the harmonica

Hard to tell one song from another. The sound of an unwelcome party guest.

I just don't get early Dylan. I just hear a man pretending to be more important that what he is.

Im so glad its over, no more please

I have long wanted to get into and enjoy Bob Dylan's music, but so far the only few songs I enjoy from him are from the album "Desire". This album was no exception as it played in its full length without me enjoying a single song from it. I wasn't reading any of the lyrics of the songs or paying much attention to them which is the highlight of Bob Dylan's style so I wouldn't say I got to the heart of how good any of the songs are, but to be honest the only song which I wanted to read the lyrics for and listen more closely is "I shall be free" while all the other songs didn't have any phrases which I could pinpoint and be intrigued by. The simple guitar chords are probably what make this album so weak to me; it makes every song feel like the same to me (which is probably where the lyrics come in to make them feel special). His voice is also very monotone and doesn't really add much to the album except a constant droning, the only vocals I enjoyed were in "I shall be free" where he let out some hoots. I usually enjoy a smooth harmonica especially in blues songs but in this album the sound was very cutting and I can't imagine listening to it with a very high volume as it would probably damage my ears. Highlights were "I shall be free" and "Corrina, Corrina"

This is peak "these songs are actually good but by God are they painful to listen to" Dylan.

Well....

Still trying to love Bob Dylan albums! I enjoyed this for maybe the first 20 minutes but then it became a bit of a slog. Sorry, still in the "appreciate but not love" category for me.

No private session used for Spotify. I know this is sacrilege, but I don't like Bob Dylan. He can't sing, and he can't play the harmonica. Well, maybe he could play the harmonica if he put the guitar down, but he's too conceited to have someone help him out with his songs, and he'd rather do everything himself poorly.

Bob Dylan is gonna Bob Dylan whether you can stand him or not

Bob Dylan's an icon who's adored by millions of people and has influenced generations of musicians. I'm not among either group. I appreciate what he's done and where this album stands in music history, but it does nothing for me.

This album had a storng start, but it lost me a bit. I'm not a big fan of this style of music anyways, but it didn't really stick with me. Favorite Tracks: Blowin' in the Wind Girl from the North Country

a couple good songs but overall a bit tedious

Why is it that all the influential and timeless albums are an absolute slog to listen to? I am sure this is great, but I just couldn't get myself to like it.

It was okay. Wouldn't listen to this for fun. Made me kinda sad. Kinda mid at harmonica.

Gezaag 1.5

Literally couldn't listen to most of it because the playlist I played only had no sound playing for the most part which I used as an excuse to not listen to a harmonica playing for 50 mins straight. I bet it would've been cool live tho

I’ve tried, I’ve really tried but I just don’t get this guy. So I’m just gonna say the usual, I respect him as an artist but it’s not for me

I feel similar to this as I did with Frank Sinatra. Maybe it’s just not for me or I need some more listens to get Bob Dylan

Ei nyt punaniskameininki oikeen lähe.

I think I liked the first of the album more than the second, but oh well. It's for someone not me.

alle sanger er like

not for me.

3.7 / 10

Sorry bob i just couldnt get into it
