Reviews (page 9 of 14)

This was such a charmer I was shocked I hadn't heard them before. Big indie movie vibes at times.

Quite a lot better than I expected. Definitely enjoyed it. The last track surprised me quite a bit too, but it was a good finish to a good album. No real standout songs for me though and therefore not a 5.

Great album.

my experience with SR was mostly in the context of britpop. i don't recall ever listening to a song let alone an album, but i genuinely enjoyed this. feels like a mashup of oasis and my bloody valentine. loved the dreamy vocals and instrumentation. the first half felt stronger than the back half until i got to the last 2 tracks. brilliant way to end an otherwise poppy affair. this may very well end up a 5 but i would need to sit with it for awhile longer

I appreciated the variety on this album. It seemed like it was the bridge between New Wave and Brit Pop. Loved some of the more moody songs with sonic distortion and show gazey breakdowns. I feel like this spawned bands like Spiritualized, Oasis, etc. my only complaint is the last song, “fools gold” feels dated, but is the only one that feels that way.

Had literally never heard of this band before, and the Wikipedia article says it's considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Catching some hints of Smashing Pumpkins, Cranberries, Garbage, Cardigans, New Radicals. There's something precious about those airy, delicate vocals. Feels like a vibey 90s take on hippie music, wondering if the Stone Roses really set the stage for much of that 90s poppy rocky ravey scene. Just got to track 4, that took a huge psychedelic turn. Some Jimi, some Beatles. The happy little guitar solo at 2:50 in "Made of Stone" sounds like something I'd play while standing on my tippy toes and fucking around with my phaser. I enjoyed this one, will see how that translates into my arbitrary awarding of stars tomorrow morning.

One of my favorites

A classic, but not a album i listen to very often,

old school rock

Never been a huge fan of Stone Roses but this is a cool album with some classic tunes. 8/10

Really like this album, especially “I wanna be Adored” and “I am the resurrection” and the rest of the album is good too - it has a cool, melancholy vibe. Good harmonies, and it even rocks out occasionally. Easy 4

very good album with few bad songs not quite my go to but still a very good album nonetheless

Melodic midtempo British/Manchester rock with notable balance of experimental and straightforward. A testament to tight songcraft done by what feels like a fairly standard four- or five-piece rock outfit. Many of the Stone Roses biggest hits are here - "I Wanna Be Adored", "Waterfall", "Bye Bye Badman."

Very indie, cook

Excellent album.

Rock. Interesante

honestly better than I expected. Softy sadboi rock, but done well! I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the album, and everything after was a slow decline, but never felt awful. Probably won't throw it into a rotation but will have more appreciation if it comes up on it's own. Really hard to pick between 3 and 4 for this one. I'll round up for the hell of it.

Appreciate this album more and more as I continue to listen to it. Lyrics more intelligible now, very eclectic album.

We liked it. It was groovy and fun. 3.5 stars

I only knew the (perfect) first song, the rest is not as perfect but interesting

Goo is better

¿Por qué no escuchamos más a esta banda y menos a otras de la época? Tiene el sonido de The Smiths sin todos los dramas de Morrissey. Me gustaron creo que todas pero las que más fueron 'I am the resurrection' y 'Shoot you down'.

Like the vibe. You can tell it’s right at the turn of the 80s sound becoming what become grunge in the 90s.

Have loved this album for a fair while, highly recommend watching their Documentary. Would love to have experienced that Manchester scene

Not a band I've listened to much, but a really good album.

Definitely love this one.

Not listened to stone roses for years. Looking forward to this one. Enjoyed that, I'd forgotten that they can be quite chilled out

Solid album, more psychedelic and weirder than expected (in a good way)

surprisingly good

If only the album was good as the first two and last song all the way through. Best closer of all time tho

Chill alternative rock, a little bit peculiar, but generally a pleasant listen.

Some great funky jams

It grew on my. I had to listen to it many times, and every time it was better than before

Godt rock/pop plade med fængende hits. De "fjerne ekko" stemmer bliver dog lidt træl Men gode numre 4+

I seem to remember the first half of this album more than the last, until Fool's Gold arrives. Great listening to this again. 4/5.

gillade detta

The Stone Roses

This album sounds like a clear waterfall streaming down a river. So cool. So refreshing. 7.5-8/10 FT: Made of Stone - I am the Resurrection. A tie

Good background music, sounds like the libertines

I just can’t get into this band

La primera canción una locura, la guardé y la escuche varias veces durante el día . Me gusto el album en general, algunas canciones mas que otras though.

This album started out really strong, got boring in the middle, but then ended sort of okay at the end. The production is great - I love this type of 80s production and they did a really interesting thing where they used what felt like a restrained version of how echoey everything sounded in the late 80s, making a cool effect where that element was there but it sounded a little less produced. There were times where the 60s and 80s influences meshed really well, and others where it was just so much 60s and the songwriting went nowhere. While I thought that sonically it took an upswing in the last two tracks, they also had no need being 17 minutes total. I dunno. I'd rate this a 2.5 were I able, but given that I'd be willing to listen to more of their stuff, I'll bump it up.

i kinda feel like some kind of drugs are missing in my body for me to really get into this. i can hear it's really good, but i just can't feel it.

One all time great song - Fool's Gold - and a few other good tunes, but too much filler for my tastes.

Good album, nothing stands out

Wasnt my favorite. I liked one or two songs. I did like the album art though.

Great album! Already knew one song but the album is very good and very chill! His voice is also cool

There were some songs id see myself tapping my fingers to but its not specifically my thing I can see why it holds importance in music, though

Pretty good.

pretty nice!!

A decent, but not exceptional album. I did greatly enjoy the variety on instrumental sections across the album that created a strong feeling of variety through the piece.

I really liked the beginning but the end was not so fun for me

Never heard of them. Was expecting something hard/metallic or similar. Pleasant surprised.

pretty nice

The Stone Roses arrived in 1989 at the center of a moment — Madchester, the convergence of indie guitar rock and dance culture that briefly made a specific corner of England feel like the only place music was happening. The record carries that energy convincingly. The jangly 60s-inflected guitars, Reni’s drumming (genuinely the secret weapon, funk-informed in a way the rest of the band doesn’t always match), Ian Brown’s loose detached vocal sitting more on feel than precision — it all coheres into something that sounds like a scene rather than just a band. The problem is that it sounds like that scene for the entire record without quite varying the formula enough to keep the back half as alive as the front. Same samey is the honest verdict — not in the sense that the songs are indistinguishable, but in the sense that the emotional register doesn’t shift enough to generate the kind of peaks that earn replayability. Nothing moves the needle sufficiently to demand return visits, which is the test that separates a record worth respecting from a record worth reaching for. The talent is real and the vibe is genuine. “She Bangs the Drums” and “I Am the Resurrection” make the case for what the band could do when the groove locked in. But a record that impresses without moving sits at three regardless of its historical reputation, and the UK press canonization of this particular era deserves the same healthy skepticism it always does in this project. A solid three. The moment was real. The record is a good document of it.

It's an okay album, with some highlights in "Waterfall", "Made of Stone" and the chaos that is "Sugar Spun Sister. It is not really my kind off thing, so it didn't grab me immediately. Overall I see the good things it does, but not that special for me.

Not bad

Liked this album a lot. Standout favorite was "I am the Resurrection"

Good but a bit boring from time to time

When I listened to the first few songs on the album, it felt like I was transported back in time. It brought back childhood memories and reminded me of the cartoons, TV shows, and the overall vibe of when I was younger. The atmosphere feels warm, cheerful, carefree, and very much in-the-moment. It’s not the kind of music I usually listen to—my taste is way more melancholic But honestly, now I kind of want to listen to more music with this sort of vibe over the next few days.

No está mal, el rock británico característico de finales de las 80. No me encantó pero está bueno.

aaaaaa.... eeeeee... aaaaa-aa-aa. neeeee... ahhhh-ah-aaa. I have an English mate of a certain age who likes "football" (it's soccer mate, get it right) and he loves the Stone Roses. I have a feeling he may have a reference to them tattooed somewhere but that could be Dropkick Murphys reference too, I dunno. Nothing alike but he loves them both. And he loves that awful Disturbed cover of The Sounds of Silence. Which prompts me to ask: "why am I mates with him"? Beggers can't be choosers, I guess. This is at least not even half as offensive as that awful Disturbed cover. At least it's a vibe, but I can't understand the cultish love my mate has for it. I can understand saying "this is alright". I can't imagine loving it enough for a mate to think I had a tattoo somewhere.

Two bands this week that I’ve never heard of! This one is apparently an early darling in the indie rock genre, and it ranks very highly among critics as one of the best 500 albums ever in general. The critics should stick to their day jobs because this wasn’t anything special. Mildly interesting Brit-rock with some decent guitar work and a couple good songs. Sounded like U2 and Oasis had a moody baby. YMMV, but I didn’t understand all the adoration for this record. Perfectly average 3/5

Gets much better at the end, mildly disappointing, but also much better than Primal Scream

🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑 Really fun, may deserve a half-star more, but I can't see myself revisiting a ton of these songs (though I think I'd come back to more than I've decided now). I'd only heard "Love Spreads" from Severance as well as "I Wanna Be Adored" and "Fool's Gold" from this album but I think "Love Spreads" in particular gave me a false impression of how rockin' Stone Roses would be because I'm always disappointed they're not rockin' like that. Still, I could come to appreciate how nineties psychedelic this is. 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities) | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing

I enjoyed this but had a hard time giving an unbiased review so we’re going with a safe 3.

Some really cool stuff in here but it's a little too jangly for me in some areas. And then there's some almost dance stuff "Fools Gold." Glad I listened, wouldn't want to listen to it again.

it’s like fine but all kinda sounds the same to me

I quite liked this one. Wasn't sure I would given the genre but this was decent. Id say the average song on this didnt blow me away, but the few I did like were I Wanna be Adored, Made of Stone, This Is the One, and I Am the Resurrection. I vibed with all of those ones. Pretty good overall but didnt blow me away.

there were some songs i did actually like a bit just overall not my vibe

Not bad, but also not that enjoyable.

I thought I'd hate this one, but it turned out to be alright. Nothing super remarkable or special in this one, and it certainly wasn't memorable, but it's a fine album.

This album really hooked me with the first song and then proceeded to disappoint me for nearly an hour with some of the most generic and unpalatable British rock. The droning and over-tuned echoing vocals quickly irritated me, even though the rest of the band was doing a pretty good job of playing tight and varied arrangements. This album is close to something I might have enjoyed, if only the vocals were improved and the length were shortened to include only the tracks with something novel to offer.

Cool style pretty good

I liked this well enough but was disappointed that none of the songs were nearly as good as ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, which was the one song from the album that I’d already heard.

Seems like a very foundational album. Just didn't grab me

The hits are brilliant, the rest is ok

Bra skiva och framförallt mycket jämn. Blir dock aldrig så sugen på att lyssna mer på Stone Roses. Stark trea!

Never a big fan. Some fun psych jams but overall pretty meh.

*1989. *I Want To Be Adored is a solid song (although overrated IMO0. *The rest of the album is fine. It's consistent and enjoyable mellow background music, but nothing else really stands out. *I want to like this album more than I do, as it seems like a cult classic among people whose musical tastes I'm aligned with. RATING - 7/10

My first Stone Roses album. I really enjoyed track 1 but was bored by the rest until Shoot You Down. From there it got better until the end.

This sounded promising to start but then I got kind of bored with their sound. Soft neutral.

Purée dingue/ rock chill/ defoncée/ super cool

Good listenin’. Not sure I’ll go back to it, but it’s solid.

Takie 6/10, dobry album nie w moim stylu,

I've never understood the hype for this one. It's not even that its bad I just find it boring.

Kivaa rokkia. Hyväntuulista. Iha jees musaa.

They really like their reverb pedal and echo-y vocals in this group. I'm surprised I've never heard of this group, but it's from just before I became aware of my own music. I'm guessing this is something that was popular on college radio in the US at the time. I think if you had some decent lyrics and if they leaned into their harder/edgier sounds this would have been really good. I can hear their sound reflected (echoed?) into later music, and I can hear echoes (get it?) of earlier music like U2 in their sound. Definitely a product of their time. Elizabeth My Dear and Made of Stone were my favorite.

I wanna be adored är ett starkt öppningspår. She bangs the drums gillar jag däremot inte alls, refrängen är farligt nära signaturen till Vänner. Gillar malandet i Waterfall, Don't stop och framförallt i andra halvan av avslutande I am the resurrection.

Good sound but did not leave an inpression

not as good as Joni Mitchell’s Blue

2.5 stars I had tickets for Coachella 2013, where Stone Roses were co-headlining with Blur. That was when I first listened to Stone Roses. They had not been on my radar, like most Americans. While later britpop acts Blur and Oasis penetrated American consciousness with lasting impressions, the group that inspired them all did not have a lasting impact on this side of the pond. I’d hear the name and assume they were some cross of Rolling Stones or Guns n Roses. In the 13 years since I’ve listened to this album exactly 0 times. I didn’t watch Stone Roses live at Coachella. They were up against Tegan and Sara and Earl Sweatshirt, both preferable options, although I made the decision to watch How to Destroy Angels because of a girl I met up with. But alas, my listening experience of the s/t album of the Stone Roses did not excite me at the time. Revisiting it for this project, I was reminded of the music I had given a few chances those years ago. Still, it did not make me feel more than mild amusement. While I understand perhaps at the time, in the UK, the impact was undeniable, it does little for me in 2026. I don’t see myself returning to this again. Not terrible, but not interesting enough to warrant any more of my time.

Favorite songs: I Wanna Be Adored, Waterfall, Elizabeth My Dear, (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister, Made of Stone, Shoot You Down, This Is the One, I Am the Resurrection, Fools Gold 3.5

Solid album. Generic 80s brit indie rock sound. Complex enough arrangement, and somewhat happy vibes.

Now this is my Wife’s favorite band ( she once had a dog named Ian Brown), so gave it a 5/5. She spouted on about it’s influence on the Manchester scene and while I think it is a decent album and somewhat different than what was going on at the time, I just didn’t feel it as much as she did.

Still pretty overrated to me, opening track I wanna be adored, and the two closing tracks, I Am the Resurrection and Fools Gold are the best tracks. The rest is very forgettable, I suppose it's really impressive if you think Oasis is the be all and end all of music.

Gentle indie rock with a touch of pop. I liked the couple made of "Waterfall" and "Don't stop". Good groove in "Fool's gold". 3.5 / 5

Just ok... Not a very deep album and very typical for the time.

My first ever listen to this band. Didn’t love it; didn’t hate it.

It was OK.

Good album but hugely overrated, the band are talented and write some iconic UK indie tracks but jangle pop just isn't my thing. I think the artists all offered more after this.

I want to like them and their sound. Just not compelling enough for me.

Me gusta pero a la vez me parece sobrevalorado, en plan no me parecen canciones muy complejas. I wanna be adored la mejor, algunas otras cansan y no destacan

It's good, I liked it, wasn't an instant love but it reminds me of a chiller version of the smiths which I love. Good chill music to have in the background for working or reading on a random Thursday afternoon.

i haven't listen to these guys in about 10 years. Looking forward to this record. i wish they were as big in the states as blur...

It was a fun listen, but no takeaways from me. Definitely felt unique. Probably something like 3.25 stars

Took me right back to my attic bedroom!

Not really a fan, 5/10

I've tried getting into this album a few times over the years and I always end up with a "meh" feeling. I like the sound overall and get that it's a kind of bridge between eras, but in the end I don't find myself returning to any particular song. I'm guessing you had to be there. This seemed like as good a time as any to try a new experiment. I was curious if Claude AI could analyze my history and predict how I'd respond to an album. It got this one wrong, but this certainly does sound like me and my reviewerly logic: " The Stone Roses sit at a peculiar intersection for me. I came of age musically in the 90s, mostly on the American side of the Atlantic, so I absorbed the Stone Roses the way you absorb a lot of British music from that era — through the reverberations it left in everything that came after. I can hear them in every Britpop band I love, in the jangly confidence of Oasis, in the strut of the Dandy Warhols. And "I Wanna Be Adored" and "She Bangs the Drums" are stone cold classics — the kind of songs that make you feel like you discovered something even when they're thirty years old. But unlike, say, my experience with Wild Gift or Exile in Guyville, I never quite found the emotional portal in. The songwriting is brilliant without being personal in the way I need for a 5. Ian Brown's voice is more of a texture than an instrument, and there are moments where the album floats past me rather than landing. I Should Coco gave me a similar feeling and I gave that a 5, so I went back and forth. But in the end, the Stone Roses feel more like a phenomenon I admire than an album I love with my whole chest. A magnificent 4." Sorry Claude and Manchester -- it's a 3 for me.

Not bad. Definitely started picking up more of a jam band vibe towards the end though.

funky album. it had some cool techno elements and groovy bass. i loved the tracks i wanna be adored, i am the resurrection, and fools gold. (3.5 for me)

I like the energy of She Bangs the Drums and the way the guitar kicks in midway through This Is the One. The song Don't Stop has a weird sound, and I learned through Spotify that it's the previous track, Waterfall, in reverse, with different lyrics overlaid. That's not an approach I've ever heard, and it's a little unsettling. Elizabeth My Dear is Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair reimagined. The lyrics throughout the album are interesting, nowhere more so than in Made of Stone. Finally, I enjoyed the funky sound of Fools Gold. This band showed promise, and it's a shame they dissolved so quickly.

The music was good, but this lacked something. This album did not quite tick all the boxes for me.

I Wanna Be Adored er topp 100 beste låter gjennom tidene materiale.

Old school classical music, not what I currently listen to but I can enjoy all types of music, solid album definitely camp fire vibes at night, not much replay value in it for me personally but overall good

Very English, but I find it enjoyable as decent background music. Probably will not listen to it again. 6/10 Top song Waterfall

Didn’t overly enjoy the first few songs. But it got a lot better. Will have to listen a few more times.

Before listening, did some research and it seems like The Stone Roses laid the foundations for bands like Blur, and Oasis. I can see some of that in their music, and overall made for an interesting listen. Not exactly up my alley, but it was a cool mix between prog rock and more pop rock. I enjoyed "Made of Stone" and "(Song for my) Sugar Spun Sister".

Decente. Me suena un poco a rock viejo generico. Supongo que porque lo es. Nada especial pero cada cancion es muy disfrutable.

It's a good album, but I don't love it.

They're all right - I think I prefer the instrumentals over the vocals though. I can also hear Stone Roses's influence on bands that came after them, like Kaiser Chiefs (and maybe even Oasis).

Good album and songs

Completamente normalito. Entiendo que 1000 es un número muy grande, pero no sé si entra en los top 1000. Igual, no es malo, solo no le veo nada "mágico".

I enjoyed this debut album by The Stone Roses! I liked the alt rock sound with heavy influences of 60s psychedelic rock. I had a great time jamming to this album and I would listen to it again in the future!

Indierokkia mutta jotenkin semmosta indierokkia joka ei kuulostanut niin pahalta.

Vähän omaan makuun löysää ja mautonta brittipoppia vähän jollain psykemmillä elementeillä paikoitellen.

Pretty decent album, I can see where britpop got its roots from (especially Oasis). Well worthy of the list.

I already know a song from this one?? That's crazy. Wait this is kinda good. It's cute. It feels like a precursor to 2000/2010s indie rock. I can def feel the influence. I like it. Yeah good vibes all around. No complaints. It's just kinda there tbh. Favourite: I Wanna Be Adored Least favorite: (Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister

It's an album that gets far better in the second half. Some really good grooves /jam sessions pop up in some of the longer cuts like in the last 2 tracks and that's when I think this album is at it's best. The vocals are really nothing to write home about, and I think the songs could maybe benefit from clearer and more expressive singing, but at the same time it kinda fits the shoegaze/dreamy vibe the instrumentals have so I'm a bit conflicted on it... Overall though I enjoyed this, but it's not something I find myself craving to go back to. 3/5

I would describe this as an ethereal-sounding British pop-rock album. The music is a mix of bright poppy-sounding tunes and darker moodier ones. I thought it was just so-so (not amazing, not bad, had some good melodies). However, I really liked "I Wanna Be Adored".

Nothing too much to say. I enjoyed it. A down the middle rock album that was not too flashy.

nichts spannendes

No my type of music, but it was good

Some good tracks, got a little monotonous at the end

Pretty non descript British rock. Gloomy, dark, sometimes good, often bleak and depressing. Most songs sound the same.

The 1st song is an all-time banger

Me parece un álbum para escuchar como viajero creador de nostalgias

M’ouais okay. Pas mauvais mais j’ai pas aimé

Ok album. I probably should have written some notes right after listening to it; several days after and I don't really remember anything remarkable from this album other than it was fine, but not good enough to really want to listen to again. 2.5/5

I remember 20 years ago hearing about this album and being stoked to listen to it. When I did, I was sorely disappointed. I've always sorta carried that around. Listening to it now, it's not nearly as bad as I remembered, and in fact I kinda liked it. I hear things like more rock-forward Belle & Sebastian, for example, but this came before. Anyways, I unfairly maligned this album and it's decent. I think it's a bit of a grower, but right now, I'm feeling 3.25/5

Not bad, not bad. Surprised I haven't checked this out sooner.

ganz solide, nett anzuhören. aber auch nichts herausgestochen.

Gut, aber nicht großartig

Harmless

3+ but one of the ugliest covers I've ever seen

me dieron muchas vibes a caballos

Fine, chill.

Another highly regarded Brit Pop album that is totally fine but what's with all the glazing.

turns into a kind of pleasant much once you get past the first two tracks. fine songs, but just kind of insistent and loud, big simple drum parts and chiming guitars and not very good lyrics. it all glides right past me. that opener, though...not sure if anyone's ever come up with this take but that's a pretty good song!

I like it, but is not special enough. The sounds are fresh and relaxing but not exiting like other albums for the same band

Didn’t listen carefully but this was cool and I may return. Feels ahead of its time 3.5

Lot of Hubub around this record. Not sure it's all that but some good things happening. Didn't care for the way the vocals were delivered but the band rocked out from time to time which was nice. A few more listens would probably be rewarding

Heard a few of the songs before. Seems ahead of its time with the dream-pop sound. But kind of loud, repetitive by the end. Good music, but not for an entire hour, was ready for it to be over

Immer wider hani mi verwütwcht wieni gern zueglost han. Bide andere mal hani mi verwütscht wies a mir verbigseglet isch wied alinghi ade segel regatta 2017 3 seemannsknote

Tracks: 1. I Wanna Be Adored: It was okay nothing too special; it was a lot of repetition. 2. She Bangs the Drums: Not really a fan it’s just a love song really and I don’t really like the rhythm. 3. Waterfall: I like this one the most so far. I like the way he sings she’s a waterfall. I also like the metaphor of waterfall “she’ll carry on through it all.” 4. Don’t Stop: I don’t like the weird distorted voice. Not the biggest fan but also I like it ngl. It’s strange and interesting. 5. Bye Bye Bad Man I like it. I like the maracas they’re very interesting; it gives me like a jungle type vibe. There’s a contrast between what he’s singing about and the playful, almost childlike, theme of the song. 6. Elizabeth My Dear I love this; it’s like he’s coming for the queen. It’s sad how short it is. It reminds me of her majesty by the Beatles. 7. (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister I also love this one. I love the way he sings it and the rhythm. It’s soo good def my favorite by far up until this point. 8. Made of Stone I love the beginning part it sounds so familiar- it’s kind like emo music. It’s literally so dramatic lmao. I like this one. 9. Shoot You Down It’s so groovy. I like it. I actually loved this one actually 10. This Is the One Too repetitive- I don’t like it. 11. I Am the Resurrection Kind of meh lowkey. Did not like 12. Fools Gold Banger- A little long though. I like it mostly

it was cute idk

Man British people REALLY like this album huh There’s some good stuff about this one, I really did like I am the Resurrection and She Bangs the Drums is a classic Guitar Hero Arcade track. It’s very polished which I do appreciate and the instrumentation is pleasant enough I really don’t care for the vocals though, too dreamlike and half assed for my liking. I think the songs really blend into each other in a boring way and it just lacks the excitement you’d expect from the genre. It just lacks anything that really makes it stand out from the swaths of alternative in my opinion. Absolutely blows my mind that this regularly outpaces Abbey Road and other highly acclaimed British albums in all time rankings. It’s far from bad, but there’s just so little that I would consider special when comparing to the greats.

Good not great debut album from Manchester lads Stone Roses. A bit new wave, a bit indie, a bit Brit. That Rickenbacker rings through on several tracks. Decent elements throughout, apparently not enough to stand the test of time. Recorded second album (the one I'm more familiar with) then broke up, then got back together years later. So tired of that story. Might give it another listen, nothing really there to object to.

This album is just boring and repetitive not much going for it in all honesty. The last few songs felt like they were dragging and I was just done at the end. Nothing really bad about the album, I just thought that it was not interesting.

Maybe I was expecting too much out of this album, but I was hoping for a little bit more oomph. It's perfectly fine '80s psychadelic music most of the time. And I think that's partially the problem, I'm sort of fatigued when it comes to this sound, so even songs that are largely pleasant like 'Waterfall' or 'Super Spun Sister', just end up sounding nothing more than run of the mill psychedelic. I Am the Resurrection was an ambitious closer, I was genuinely engaged for all 8+ minutes of it, something I can't say for many of these other songs here, where I felt mentally checked out. And again, some of the better and more expressive vocals on the record. I feel like I just wasn't in the right mindset to understand this album on this first listen, but I will see if it clicks on more listens. It was honestly pretty and pleasant in almost every way.

Well, it doesn't suck, and for this list that is a big positive. It's not great either. I'd put it at a 2.75, so I'll bump that to 3.

Liked the psychedelic parts, but pop-rock parts are really annoying. Don't Stop is a masterpiece. Some more good moments here and there, but the rest is really annoying. So I'll give it 3.

A pleasant listen, not sure if I would go listen to it again, but didn't mind it as background music. Nothing really stood out as memorable so will most likely forget about the album come tomorrow.

Not given The Stone Roses any attention before, I think the only track I really knew from this album was Fools Gold, but a few other bits sounded familiar. I found both the vocals and the instrumentals a little bit bland; there was definitely some experimentation (particularly "Don't Stop" which seemed to be mostly played backwards), but overall it was some fairly easy listening gentle rock with very little flair. I preferred the heavier, more rock style tracks to the quieter, more indie style ones, but overall it was quite an easy listen. I think if more of it were the heavier style, I'd be tempted to go for a 4, but I found the quieter tracks a bit too dull and repetitive, so I'm going to say high 3 instead. Certainly wasn't bad, but I don't think it was good enough that I'd be keen to go for another listen.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Some psychadelic jams and good indie rock. Nothing special or stand out about it though. Solid 3

I see how this could appeal to some people. I am not some people

This was a fine album. I think it's over hyped by those who enjoy it and underappreciated by those who trash it. I am a big fan of the song "Waterfall" but had never listened to this whole album before. What's up with the song after Waterfall sounding just like a remix of it? Anyway, the good songs are good. The mid songs are mid. Probably a 3.5 from me.

A pre’y solid bri’sh album. Love the sound of it. This was work background noise so I can’t say I was fully locked in but I saved a few songs that I will def revisit.

This record sounds like a bunch of bun-wearing granola bros flexin' for the lady folk. Laid-back, cool, a dash on the cocky side, but a little manufactured. The real problem: the album is hot and it knows it. The guitars sound great, the songs drift along in a really satisfying way, and the whole thing just feels like a mood I want to explore. As a first listen, I was a little thrown by how aggressively they enjoyed their own farts, but hell, the aurora is quite intoxicating, at least for a good chill session.

Seems a little ahead of it’s time for 1989. A fun romp through the budding 90s sound.

interessant, aber nicht bahnbrechend.

Skilled

At first, I was wondering if this was some collaboration between Guns 'N' Roses, and The Rolling Stones; I only wish it was that cool. It's well produced for its time, but I was never hooked on any songs. Favorite Track: "Waterfall".

I was a bit worried that the Stone Roses' self-titled album wouldn't be my thing when its first half only had two songs I liked (and they're both essentially the same song – more on that shortly), but I admittedly came around to it by the end. Like a lot of my threes, I'd certainly be open to hearing it again, but it's probably not one I'll be putting on during my own free time. If there's anything that makes this album truly memorable or worthy of its "Must Hear" status, it's "Waterfall" and "Don't Stop" – the latter is a legitimately good (if a bit nonsensical) indie rock song that sounds like the former when reversed. I've never seen anything like that done on an album before (at least, not in the fashion that's pulled off here). Highlights: Waterfall, Don't Stop, (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister, Made of Stone, This Is the One, I Am the Resurrection

Heard it before. I Wanna Be Adored is one of the songs of all time. In general it's quite a solid indie album 3/5

alright

It's decent background noise, nothing spectacular. Kind of sounds like a mashup of every soft psychedelic british rock bands. Pleasant to listen to, but nothing I'd consider a must-listen.

A very nostalgic sound that is right up my alley. Made of Stone was the standout song for me. Album might have overstayed it's welcome just a bit, especially with the runtime of the last 2 songs.

I thought it was a good rock album but nothing to write home about. 3/5

I know of The Stone Roses, although I'm not super familiar with their stuff. This one was a bit up and down for me. The first couple of songs I really liked, and then it started to sound a bit repetitive to me in the middle. It did pick back up at the end. The songs on this album are pretty diverse. I got everything from a very alternative rock sound, to a dance beat, to a 60s/70s psychedelic sound, to a jam band sound. For me, by far the stand out of all of the songs on this album is the guitar by lead guitarist, John Squire. I added a couple of songs to my playlist, but not sure I'd listen to the album as a whole again.

Midchester

Maybe not one I will go back to a lot, but enjoyed it. Truly have never heard a stone roses album

Standard.

I liked it more than I thought I would. I would rate it higher if it wasn’t so repetitive.

Wankers

Not too bad for never hearing anything from these guys before, couple solid songs.

This album was pretty good! Used a lot of cool riffs and guitar samples in each song. The vocalist was not my favorite, but not that bad! Could be much better, but not bad at all. There were a good few in the batch that stand out, while others are blended into the mix. Meanwhile, its laid-back tracks were fun to listen to and very good. It’s hard not to repeat myself, as the ideas kinda circle when thinking about this album. Best tracks: I Am the Resurrection, She Bangs the Drums, I Wanna Be Adored.

Not my type of album tbh. I understand the quality behind it but i think it doesn't have the intensity that i like. I think Sugar Spun Sister its the best song in the album, i liked the melody but i probably won't listen to it again. It's probably a 3/5 for me.

I really enjoyed it, but it was not for me.

This was pretty cool I enjoyed it from the opening tracks but ended up wanting more towards the end. Saved a few tho

Good album, sounds very modern for it's time

This was nice to hear after having to listen to rap. 2.5 stars.

Psychedelic pop rock from the late 80s. I dig it. Made of Stone best song.

Fine, would probably give it a 3.5 because it's better than many other albums, but doesn't quite rise to the rank of a 4.

Cute, if a bit lightweight.

Meh. OK, Indie Rock style.

Kinda good alt rock

didn't get the band first time round, worth a second listen

Fools gold, i am the resurrection and i wanna be adored are excellent. The rest is forgetable

As this was released in 1989, you can see how the changing 80s sound is melding into the sounds that filled the 90s. A good album, but not high on my memorable list, after a first listen. 3/5

Ian Brown’s wafty vocals aside, this is pretty good, and it’s about as iconic as anything from the Madchester era.

Very much of its time. The Stone Roses sounded new and fresh, and promised great things to come. Sadly, as with Oasis, it fizzled out.

chill para volver viajando en colectivo, me gustó mucho el tema más largo del disco I am the resurrection

Opening song was meh, but the rest wasn’t too bad. 3.2 stars

First time I’ve listened to to the Stone Roses. I always thought the name sounded like “British southern Rock” in my mind. And I think that’s the style here. Sounds suburban, not London. Small, dingy, reverb spaces with a longing for the world to open up more widely with synth edges. Still awash in British-ness for me but not all bad.

iwba - me gusta pero larga y repetitiva, good para fondo sbtd - full vibra de cancion de momento epico de la potagonista de una peli, me gusta la letra y el sonido w - buen comienzo buen cierre instrumental, letra y cancion en si meh ds - para alguien q lo mas conecta de la musica es letra, 3 minutos de intro/outro instrumental es una banda. mg pero rari bbbm - temazo me re gusta emd - lindo interludio, significativo sfmsss - me gusta mos - temazo syd - q tranqui q paz, amo como canta i'd love to do it and you know you always had it coming. temazo tito - me gusta pero repetitiva iatr - obvio q no me banco mitad de tema siendo instrumental, mas de 8 miinutos d tema padre !!!! me hubiese gustado si se cortaba antes fg - temazo pero con muucho instrumental y encima instrumental repetitivo Zzz

meh. sounds good but not my style

Fine album, kind of annoying low key Will listen again

Nice album Fik ikke lyttet så koncentreret

The album begins with three conventional songs that sounded like many other bands. With “Don’t Stop”, the album became more interesting and occasional, but inconsistently so. However, I’m glad I hung on to the end because the last song is the best thing on the album. I absolutely loved “Fools Gold”! Long funky instrumental with a great bass, it doesn’t sound like anything else on the album.🤣

Really good album, I had never heard of these guys before

A bit samey.

Pretty good! A good mix of jangle rock with some drum machine stuff thrown in.

The first track absolutely floored me Other tracks hmm not so much maybe if im in a bad mood it would act like an album that would cheer me up but since I'm already fired up all the other tracks seemed just alright to me 7/10

I dont fw it enough 😭

She bangs the drums Fools gold Me gustaa

Somehow, I've never listened to this album until now, and when I tried to listen to it through phone speakers, I turned it off halfway through the second song because it sounded like shit in a way that was more than phone speakers normally do - like it wasn't just tinny, something was obviously missing. When I put on headphones, it was pretty obvious that was the right move because this is well produced, pleasantly layered jangly sound that bridges the 80s and 90s in an almost-ur-music fashion. Like, this is it, the 80s turning into the 90s, you can hear it all right here. Unfortunately, the emotional resonance that I'm certain it has for people who heard it around then isn't there for me, so while it's all very capable and good it doesn't rise to the 'whoa I'm really hearing something here.' Instead it's like an apparition around everything that sounds like this, probably more specific albums that do certain things better. It drags a bit because the sound is so of its time, and especially because it has such a strong start, but generally speaking, reputation deserved even if I don't think it's anything really special.

I didn't hear much of this back when it came out. I almost want to rate it lower, but it's impressive that it's from '89.

Two really great songs

Meh. Couple catchy. The rest is too similar

Eh.. I'd give it 2.5/5. I enjoyed the short song with the melody of Scarborough Fair though, it was a very nice break

This had a lot of familiar sounds that I liked

Had to come back 3 months later and knock this down to a 3. I’m definitely over this album and not as catchy as I initially thought.

Perfectly, um, okay

It was alright. One really good song.

It’s fine. Not really as good as I thought I thought it was.

This was somehow completely new to me (and I was absolutely paying attention to this kind of music at the time). Pleasant enough. And I appreciate the 80s-ish alt and indie-rock vibes. But the songs just don’t land with me. How does an album that’s hailed as one of the best British albums of all time fail to make a mark on these American ears? That’s probably on me. But there’s a reason I put “probably” in that sentence….

I enjoyed this

The Stone Roses are a band that I should fully love. They're they're jangle pop influences are present on nearly all of their songs, but despite most of their music sounding good, there are just too many songs on here that I can't fully get on board with. Not horrible, not even bad, but there's just something holding them back for me.

Classic example of a band that was underrated, and as a result became overrated. This is a good album for sure, but it's never done much for me.

Nice and easy listening.

Coldplay left me well, cold

Not much of a fan of Brit Rock, but this is pretty good. Some fun beats. I can't understand a word the singer is saying though which is kind of a bummer. It's a really laidback album perfect for a casual listen. I didn't necessarily think it was anything tremendously impressive, but I still enjoyed it a moderate amount.

This was alright, but I can't really picture myself listening to it again. I don't really know what else to say.

Another new exposure for me. I dug it. I enjoyed Elizabeth My Dear, wished it was longer, though possibly just the familiarity of the Scarborough Fair melody at play there. Also not sure if my good feelings are just a snapback from enduring the Nico album. This feels like a proper band with songs that were constructed together in the strange alchemy that happens in the practice space. It definitely feels like the evolutionary step between The Beatles and Oasis. I could stand to listen to this one a few more times and settle on a few tracks to put into rotation.

When I saw this referred to as a "Madchester" album, I had a terrifying flashback to Happy Monday's "Bummed", which I loathed. Thankfully, this is much better than that; production is clean, vocals are clear and actually carry a tune, and the performances are solid and clearly audible. And as a bonus, the songs are different and innovative in cool ways rather than an undifferentiated mass of sound. It's well done; not my favorite style, but always solid and often catchy. Favorite tracks: "Waterfall", "Bye Bye Badman", "Shoot You Down", "I Am the Resurrection"

This was a weird one for me. The more I listened to it, the more I liked it, but I doubt I’ll come back to it. At the start of most songs, I’d think it wasn’t for me but by the halfway point I was almost always on board. In another life I’d give it 4-5 more listens and let it grow on me, but I just don’t have that kind of time anymore, so here we are.

I put it on as a background while I was playing and I don’t remember any catchy tunes, but I can’t say anything bad about it either. Rate 6/10

Was a pretty interesting album with some cool part but as got quite boring at times and all melted together. That last song I Am the Resurrection was awesome though glad it ended on a high

A strong start, but, by the end I was just waiting for it to be over. There were a few songs I really enjoyed, though, not to the point of saving them.

It was fine but unremarkable

I found the music interesting to a point, but didn’t dig the vocals or the lyrics. I generally don’t care for this era of britpop though.

Typical late 80s sound. I know a superior album that mentions a wall.

I thought I would enjoy it more.

Groovy, funky and chill. Passively listened while grocery shopping. Vocals are okay. Instrumentals are pretty dated but really good. Very enjoyable, preferably with some za. I'd give it a 3.5.

The Beach Boys turned punk, it was a good journey. Favourite track: Bye Bye Bad Man

Paradis en anglais

Розумію впливовість гурту, але не фанат і ніколи їм не був.

second half of the album is absolutely mint so this is a 3.5 from me, Clive

This is what oasis fans think oasis are capable of. But having these albums back to back the space between the two skill levels was vast. This still isn’t my kind of music so not something I’d reach for, but it’s still objectively good straight out the gate. Several songs are standouts and whilst it isn’t something I’ll likely reach for again, I’m glad I gave it a go and know a little more about the band and the album now.

Great!

Está bien, pero por alguna razón, me apetecía que me gustasen más.

i wanna be adored: i feel like ive heard this song before, very 2000's movie title card, love the voice very sounding like 00's movie soundtrack about freedom and teenagers, waterfall is great, psychadelic acid house rock, easy listening

It's fine, the musicianship here is definitely a highlight, Ian kind of brings this record down for me, I stick around mainly for the jammy sections of the tracks, the songs at its core are alright. The grooves are tight Gary and Reni on bass and drums are by far my favourite performers when they have their moments. Tracks 3 and 4 and cool, 4 especially with the reversed gimmick, apart from those songs I can't really find anything about this album that makes it as monumental as it is, bands that predate the group like R.E.M, New Order, and The Smiths has done this sound before, this record just has the production edge.

Three good tracks and jangly guitars.

It was ok, prefer a little more range, more punk than classic rock Vibes

Great album, but not my genre. Couldn't really get into it.

Maybe I was expecting too much out of this album, but I was hoping for a little bit more oomph. It's perfectly fine '80s psychadelic music most of the time, that draws from many of the '60s groups this list seems to love throwing at me. And I think that's partially the problem, I'm sort of fatigued when it comes to this sound, so even songs that are largely pleasant like 'Waterfall' or 'Super Spun Sister', just end up sounding nothing more than run-of-the-mill psych (and, unfortunately, sort of Britpoppy). Oddly enough, I really enjoyed the short, arpeggio-driven 'Elizabeth My Dear', a song that needed to be way longer. One of the better songs here was 'Made of Stone', which has a genuinely winning chorus, something I feel this album is generally lacking in. Also, the groove here is absolutely killer, especially in that musical interlude near the end, which is absolutely driving, tight, and blood-pumping. 'I Am the Resurrection' was also an ambitious closer, again feeling more aggressive and bold in its melodies, structure, groove, and instrumental palette, allowing it to stick out in the mix here. I was genuinely engaged for all 8+ minutes of it, something I can't say for many of these other songs here, where I felt mentally checked out. And again, some of the better and more expressive vocals on the record. I feel like I just wasn't in the headspace to receive most of this album on this first listen, but I will see if it clicks on subsequent listens. It was honestly pretty and pleasant in almost every way.

Esta guay para tenerlo de fondo pero las canciones no me han aportado nada, sin embargo lo volveria a escuchar tiene algo que hace que no disguste a la larga.

I guess it’s better than some of the twos I’ve rated

Some incredible songs on here (I Wanna Be Adored, Waterfall), and some jammy stuff I'm not really into (Fools Gold etc).

Some of my all-time favorite Brit-pop. Not all winners in retrospect, but good stuff!

Pretty ok album. Really good instrumental sections but nothing that really stood out. First real listen to this group and interested to hear more

Saw the high average and assumed this was going to be a banger, but it’s just alright. Nothing I hated or loved, just a decent rock album.

I like the opening track then it’s a slog but made of stone is good. I see why some love this

Entiendo que es un clásico del britpop pero no lo agarré para nada.

Pas mal, pour écouter en voiture chill

the most typical 1989 album you could think of . predictable. every song almost sounds the same. but you cant go wrong with predictable can you?

This album was pretty good actually. The instrumentals were well performed, lots of trippy psychedelics and beautiful ballads. Not something I see myself returning to but I liked it.

The album sounds like an 80s movie soundtrack to me. I really liked some songs such as “Bye Bye Bad Man” and “I Am The Resurrection”. I like the indie vibe of it and it reminds me of The Smiths and I think they sound very similar. Overall, I think this is a great album and would listen to more of their music.

Enjoyed it more than I expected. Don’t agree with the high rating it gets on lists like these.

The stone roses really executed with this album. Songs like ‘I wanna be adored’ are one of those songs that will be around for generations to come. ‘Fools gold’ is one of my personal favorites.

i like the drums, cant really understand the lyrics the production is nice i like waterfall sound nice felt too slow

A great band and album.

It was fine. Nothing offensive and nothing exciting. Background music for a task where you don't want the music to be distracting you too much.

Forgettable

First song was great but I didn't like the rest as much

i only knew like 2 songs out of this and its a lovely album and i wanna be adored is a classic for a reason BUT i dont think i will be opening up again and again to listen...
