Reviews (page 10 of 14)
It's not bad, just like quite a bit generic
I liked this initially, but it was pretty bloated and likely much better live, it dragged? Great bass parts though!
Don’t confuse it for the stone temple pilots. Pretty good and chill
Man do I hate the drip technique used in paintings (cover art in this case). POLLOCK WHEN I CATCH YOU POLLOCK why did he have to make this thing so popular? I feel like the album cover encapsulates the album perfectly though. Trying to be so interesting but failing. Is it good? Yeah, in a way. I don't mind the songs but they're not making me wanna actively seek out this album. It's just fine, like mainly everything on this list. I've already lost hope in this list but ALL TIME TOP 1000 ALBUMS AS WELL?? PLACE 11???? THIS ALBUM?? There must be something wrong with me cuz I don't think it deserves a spot anywhere near THAT list. Why didn't they choose albums from more countries instead of all this mid American and British stuff? Again I'm not saying this album is bad, it's just not worthy of being included in such lists. I hoped I would've gotten the chance to hear stuff from more cultures from these challenges but it's the same stuff over and over again.
cool album. wouldnt listen too often but it's kinda nice sometimes. love fools gold and I wanna be adored. sounds a bit like oasis.
This album is an amalgamation of 80s pop rock with plenty of reverbed guitar. I quite like a few songs especially the last track which I was listening to before bed last night. Its so long and drawn out but what they did on that track was so cool, you don't know when its going to end. A lot of the songs are catchy tunes. Some are forgettable. I think if they cut this to maybe 6-8 tracks it would've been a really amazing album instead of just an OK one. I think its worth a listen. I am keeping this album's MP3 because I like some songs.
Liked it was very 80s vibes reminded me of stranger things
Okay for its genre but not enough okay for me.
One REALLY good song.
A good, but not great album. Fun to listen to and reminds me a lot of The Cure.
6.5/10 I used to strongly dislike the Stone Roses. Not entirely sure why. Maybe it was the lack of musical ambition in favour of being cool? I don't know, but listening to this now I actually quite like it Highlights: I am the Resurrection Made of Stone This is the One I Wanna Be Adored
A perfectly fine album, with songs that sound very similar and not that interesting, but still well made. I understand why someone would absolutely love this, but to me it didn't standard out even a little
Antes de escuchar el CD, me dijeron que el nombre del CD le iba a la perfección y estoy de acuerdo
This is a nice album of Britpop-esque music with plenty of Beatles worship. (Maybe too much Beatles worship for my taste?) But there seems to be more of an emphasis on craft and production than songwriting. A few too many songs rely on studio trickery and production effects, and those production choices hold me back a bit. A lot of the performances sound like they’re happening across the room. Or like the music is underwater. Is it the reverb that’s bothering me? Everything has this extra echo on it. It makes the music feel distant. And how about “Don’t Stop,” with its backwards drums and sitar-style effects? It’s cool, but is it a song I want to listen to? I have a hard time rating this low because there’s clearly a ton of talent in the band. And the melodies are nice! I just don’t think the production is serving them. “This is the One” is interesting because it opens with those nice and loud guitar and drums hitting in unison. But then the vocals are again buried under reverb. I like this song better than the others, but it’s still holding itself back a bit. “I Am the Resurrection” is really good. This is that front-and-center rock sound I’ve been wanting. And “Fools Gold” is a nice, dance-y number. I’m curious to know if this sounds better playing from speakers rather than headphones. That might make the difference for me. I might be missing the mark here and need more listens, but my reaction is lukewarm for now.
I liked this but didn't love it. I feel like there's a lot of good ideas but the execution falls a little flat. Lots of production choices that are cool, but more leaves me wondering about if they all benefit the songs or are just there to be there. I'm in a period of my life where I really love pop music, I love structure and melody and hooks, and I wanted more of that here. I'm still giving it a 3 instead of a 2 though because I think if I revisit this it will grow on me.
First song might as well be a shoegaze song. Then it delves into agreeable Hershey commercial music. If it had stayed that first song the whole way would have loved this, just became very eh after that. High three low four, really really like the first song but what a fall off. Also the last two tracks making up 40 percent of the run time is rude.
I didn't like the voice and the heavy Bettle like style. I was barely able to understand the lyrics, even if it was remastered in 2009. Sounded too pop-like for me
Started off strong, but didn't follow up on it.
Its a cool feeling when you cant pin point where an album would fit in chronologically. This feels like listening to REM, then Smashing Pumpkins and then somehow Oasis. Sometimes you find yourself time traveling to 93’ then back to 85’ in the same song. Loved Sugar Spun Sister, I wanna be adored. Elizabeth My Dear was a clear Scarborough Faire rip off.
Classic
textbook for interesting and unique instrumentals, the rest of the album feels very boiler plate. Theme is uninteresting, however certain songs are given a unique perspective. Vocals strange at points, never really given much room to be the foreground, however, still works. Definitely unique and inventive album but not ever really show stopping. Select songs like made of stone and bye bye bad man are really strong but are followed up or preceded by very weak runs of songs
highlight: i wanna be adored. lame and obvious answer but what did you expect. i also liked elizabeth my dear despite being very short :( and shoot me down. back half was better than front half but maybe i was just getting more into it as it went on. lowlight: this was a solid album nothing too bad but nothing like life changing i don’t think. possibly a grower, would listen again. made of stone was my least favourite but again it was still alright i just didn’t like the instrument it was a bit eurovision-y i think. fool’s gold was also not great it drags on. but overall good stuff
Good classic rock music
Very smashing pumpkins
Overall liked it. Sounded fresh and nice. Had little time to review it thought due to time contraints and after listening to the first 3/4th of it it didnt fill me with more desire to listen to the rest in my spare time. However did like the overall sound. 3/5for me but close 4
It was ok, I really likes some of the songs, but sometimes they dragged the instrumental for way too long
Has a really strong first half, but dissolves into lukewarm tunes for me late into the album. The last track is especially a snorefest.
Some of this is great. But the good songs all sound kind of the same, and so do the not-so-good ones.
I feel like I liked this more as a teen.
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly memorable to me.
Britpop again. I knew the name, but nothing they released. After listening to this record, I can say for sure that if I've ever heard a song by them, it was not memorable. The same goes for this record. No real standouts, nothing memorable. Just the feeling that I've heard similar songs before. And there we have it. This is not especially bad or such, it just lacks originality.
I feel like I should really like the laid-back Brit pop sound, but everything sounded so similar to me until the end. I was literally updating my "fav tracks" list after every song until it finally built to "I Am The Resurrection". Being American, I can hear the impact this undoubtedly had on a lot of our 90's bands, I'm appreciative, but it just isn't something I could see myself listening to over and over. I like the "I Wanna Be Adored" and I Am The Resurrection" bookends though. Fav Tracks: I Am The Resurrection > Fool's Gold > This Is The One Current Fav Album: Hot Fuss - The Killers (#4/1089)
drums sound great, love how big they are, everything in a space together, except he bass right in your face. do i know some of these songs? (waterfall) or is this band just a formative portion of the 80s sound & 90s reference catalogue, and every little lick & mixing technique is familiar via some musical descendant of this album. i dig itAHHH THE GUITAR WALKED FROM THE RIGHT TO THE LEFTo h oh ok it's just stereo tricks. cmon guys dont scare me like that. Bye Bye Bad Man is their beatles tune. it's fun lotta fun percush back half of this record gets way more british, these guys had fun, i had fun, 3 stars oh lord does the breakdown in the 8-minute track 11 "i am the resurrection" prefigure some of the worst of U2's turn-of-the-century boring excess. It's not the Stone Roses' fault that U2 became the worst band ever, but this sucked when SR did it and it sucked when U2 did it. dumb dumb dumb, i'd skip the rest of this track, but i feel obligated to listen. Last track really leans into the percussion groove, we get some funk, this must have really inspired a lot of 90s groups or A&R reps. oh my fucking god it's 10 minutes long. GUYS FIVE MINUTES IS PLENTY. JUST MAKE ANOTHER SONG IF YOU HAVE FIVE MORE MINUTES WORTH OF MUSIC & LYRICS
While this gets the 'British thing that came out in the 90's' boost from Robert Dimery it does in fact kind of stand on its own in a way that the mountain of other albums on this list don't. It wasn't really life changing for me at this exact moment to hear it but I'm not entirely against it being on the list
Solid brit pop album 3/5
Not my thing, but OKish. 6/10
Listen.
I dont think we should put whole albums on here when there's only one good song
It's ok, like a less interesting version of Oasis. But I understand the cultural impact.
Easy listening
By the first couple songs I thought I'd hate this album. Throwback 60's pop sound, bland Byrds harmonies, big reverb on everything, throwaway lead vocals (you'd think a song called I Wanna Be Adored might have some desire in it?). But the guitar starts coming out, some really nice playing, some different production tricks, even the singer starts coming out of hiding (even just a little bit), it's like the album starts revealing itself like a movie unfolding - there's way more up out sleeves than just act one. I'm not in 4 territory with it yet, but getting interested.
This was more poppy than I was expecting, and I enjoyed it overall. I didn't listen very deeply but I enjoyed driving to and from work with this album playing. I'll definitely consider listening again.
I'm pretty sure this will be the best Brit-rock album on this list. There is significantly less whiny vocal here and the music is more creative and enjoyable than the 3 or 4 chord distorted guitar style of Oasis and the like. This kind of music typically tops out at a 3 for me only if it is pure amazeballs, but the back half of the album ticked that up one. This is sitting around a 3.5 for me.
Nothing special from what I can tell.
This album has all the ingredients of something I should fall for immediately, there is something resembling the La’s in sound mixed with soft 60s Britpop. But after multiple listens, it isn't grabbing me like it should. The tracks tend to meld together into one continuous, low-key daydream that, while not bad, doesn't leave a mark. 'Made of Stone' was a standout, but aside from that track, I don't see myself returning to the full album often. I feel bad that I’m just not getting the hype.
I remember the Stones Roses having an aura of the next best thing in britpop, surfing on the Acid wave and burning the Dance floors of the cult Manchester La Hacienda. Yet, at the time I didn’t get the it and 25 years later, I only feel a kind of sympathy for their music. .
Listens: 2.5 Standout Tracks: I Wanna Be Adored, Elizabeth My Dear, I Am The Resurrection This album is a hodgepodge of different styles and influences (as well as potentially being an influence for future stuff). I am reminded of The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Oasis, maybe a little The Clash. Perhaps Radiohead and The Strokes too. I was not immediately impressed, but its growing on me after a few listens. I think it has potential to become more interesting with additional listens, teasing out and really focusing on the individual tracks. I only had the opportunity to listen to this album on my bone conducting headphones, and so a good amount of fidelity is lost compared to my Bose QCs. I intend to listen to this album tomorrow on a longer train ride. Right now I am giving it a 3.5 rounded down. That may change to a 4 eventually.
The singles are the standouts, and they are fantastic, but over an entire album I started to get a bit bored. It's a very dated sound.
Seems more shoegazey than britpoppy like I was expecting, which is personally unfortunate.
Not as into it as I was as a kid.
Automatic for the people-esque
Ahead of it's time, really fun album. I'd give it 3.5 if I could
This was fine I guess
Coule see myself enjoying this more on another listen. 3.
It’s good, not as good as the hype, but good.
It's okay. Not bad but a little boring. Three stars for background music.
just not my genre
A band I've often heard of, especially in the 90s, but hadn't really ever listened to for whatever reason. Fool's Gold is the only track I've heard before, I think from The Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels soundtrack. Overall decent, but I don't know that I'd come back to this.
ai vou ficar meio entediado se essa lista for só rock + homem
Jangly atmosphere. Shades of Big Country guitar tone. Well produced. Better second half of the album.
6.5
A decent album. First song is the best and sets the pace. Enjoyable but not ground breaking. Worth an occasional listen.
This makes me think of music you’d hear from a live band if you’d go out to a pub with some friends. Not bad.
Kinda boring
Hmmm is the best I can offer. It’s solid and I don’t dislike anything specifically, but I’m not sure if anything is going to stick with me. And this was on a relisten of the album before faded into my brain. Maybe next time
psychodelic rock/ alternative good banana 3/5 but i did NOT know it
3.5/5. I can vibe with this, definitely an album I will relisten
средненький, душный альб
70/80s soft rock. Easy listening. Favorite songs: She Bangs the Drums, Made of Stone
Fine. Inoffensive. Doesn't particularly stand out in either direction.
Not as good as I remembered. But decent.
Liked it but didn’t love it. No songs rise to greatness for me and I wish the songwriting was more interesting. Atmospheric and worth hearing but not mind blowing.
First listen
I really liked this. Although only 2 songs really striked me. Overall good album.
Enjoyable rock record. Definitely set the framework for a lot of different psychedelic sounds after it. Has a nice jam quality about it.
3.4 The ongoing history of new music guy Alan Cross sounds like he loves this band. I dont really get the appeal but its fine
Decent Brit pop
Better than I remembered
I listened to the version with "Fools Gold" on it, which is a track that I love. However, as it is an outlier and does not feature on the UK release, I choose to exclude it from my assessment of the album as a whole. With the exception of "I am the Resurrection" and "I wanna be Adored" all the music on this album is just a bit too jangly for me. I wouldn't mind listening to the entire album again, but I don't think I would specifically choose to do so.
I've reflected often in recent years how the component parts of what would become the grunge explosion are more diffuse and individually interesting than I used to naively assume. Here, these Madchester lads don't really *sound* like the UK Second Summer of Love (except Fools Gold, on the remaster), but boy do they presage Oasis and Blur. I basically picture Liam Gallagher singing this record. Apple Music calls this "one of the great debuts of all time". I could start to get behind that if it started with "Waterfall", instead of the two pastel jangly tracks that precede it. There's nothing that great about Waterfall’s performances (tho the baseline rips), but the texture is marvellous (same producer as The Bends — checks out), and again, feels prophetic in 1989. And then, Don't Stop, right after, picks up the lead line and tips it vertiginously on its edge, as if to say "yes, there were drugs. LOTS of drugs." I actually got pointed to that track recently by way of a Pitchfork review of a Cut Copy album which I like, but they hated; and they called out a certain track as a direct rip of Don't Stop. (The track is called Take Me Higher, a true facsimile of the time period, and I begrudgingly concede Pitchfork's point) I obvs wasn't part of those molly-soaked couple years at the end of 80s in the UK, but like a good consumer at the peak of his dispensable income, I love to passively participate in memories that I existed but didn't participate in. So while there's little on this record that intensely grabs me outside of Waterfall/Don't Stop, I LOVE the vibes, and some part of me wishes I was there, then. Even though my discretion was always at a career low with MDMA, and so if I had been there, I probably couldn't see straight today.
First time for me. Pretty good stuff for the time period. Not sorry I missed them, but, overall - decent. "Fools Gold" best track IMHO. It has a strong, heavy Funk element. Nice!
It was alright. Was a few years ahead of its time. Stylistically sounds like it came out during the mid 90s. I might not have paid enough attention to it or it just didn't hit me in the right way to really enjoy it. But it doesn't strike me as an album I'll be going back to. Might need another listen. 3.5
I imagine this record sounds awesome to fans of reverb and mellowed-out vibes. To me this all sounds fine overall with only a couple of really great tracks, but I wouldn't see myself returning to it in full. Not bad though! Standouts: She Bangs The Drums • Shoot You Down • I Am the Ressurrection
This was OK - not bad, but nothing special. Solid 3.5 - I will round down.
It's alright!
Nota mental: nunca más dejar ideas en la caja de notas de los discos. Días después de escucharlo recuerdo que tuvo momentos entretenido en que pensé que podía ser un 4. Pero al final, meh? No sé. Pasó sin pena ni gloria.
Late 80's Brit Pop at its finest. Good debut album. My Stone Roses story: My first year of college at San Diego State, 1992. Second day in the dorms, I meet a guy who says you got to check out these tapes. He handed me this album and Gish by Smashing Pumpkins. I loved the Smashing Pumpkins album and thought this one was cool, but nowhere as good. I still think that. 3.23 / 5 stars
Solid album from a solid band that's somewhat overrated
Trodde jag skulle gilla mer av någon anledning, men definitivt inte dåligt
très cool comme bo de film jpense sinon je réécouterais pas
I love you Davide.
A bit repetitive but overall fine; Maybe repetitivness is a bad words, its more of a very rythmic, sequential sound. Good for a background noise while doing something Elizabeth My Dear won as my fav song def because it was sampled from Scarborough Fair which is one of my fav songs lol
Really just a fine album. Nothing memorable in the positive or negative.
offbrand beatles
Cover 4 Not bad.
Better than I’d expected, thinking it’d be some dull pub rock band. Quite decent britpopindierock, but none of the tunes really grab me.
It's cool, I can see myself listening to this again. Made of Stone is a cool song.
Sounded good all the way through, a few interesting bits of guitar here and there, just not enough energy for me, enjoyed the listen though
A bit quiet sounding, but enjoyed the vibe. Occasionally reminded me of Jesus and Maryc Chain.
I guess I always forget how close 1989 is to the 90s. It sounds stupid but I always go "wtf this is from the 80s??" and if it was released 3 years later, I'd react like "yeah that sounds about right". great opening song, rest of the album falls a little flat to my taste but i can easily see how this directly inspired other bands
pretty good! 3/5
I remember hearing these songs in the late 80s/early 90s on KROQ. It was music for very cool people and I was not adult enough to be that cool. Reminds me of other bands like The Sundays and The Smithereens, with songs and a sound that was a bit more accessible and clear, or Mudhoney or Husker Du, with a similar fuzzy and far away sound but that was harder and more easy to vibe with. There is a washy, fuzzy, muddy sound to the whole album which sounds intentional but also might just be a limitation of the tech of the time. I wonder what they'd sound like today. There's a droney lack of passion in the singer's voice, but the songs build with interesting techniques, jingly, jangly guitars. It's super pleasant and has a laid back, cool dude feel that makes me feel at ease. It fades into the background easily if I'm not paying close attention though. I think this is mood music. But i'm not sure for what mood.
Very interesting mesh of British pop and prog but also some 90s alternative. Enjoyed.
It was ok. Mostly forget it by the time I wrote this so not very memorable or bad.
A mix between the beach boys and your typical 90s bops.
I guess the description of “dance music drums over rock beat” really matches this- def had a sight preference to this over the average rock album. Last track was awesome with the breakbeats
You can definitely hear the Oasis influence on here. Also its influence on Blur's debut album. Even the Beatles theft that Oasis took to heart can be found on this.
beautifully of its time. that window between the 80s and 90s where the transition into cds hadn't finished yet, when teenagers started going to illegal warehouse raves, and everything burst into a collapsing pile of sound. music for the "end of history". it's just not that memorable or special to me as an american deserves to be one of the 1001? yes
Football hooligan seterotype, not got many songs that I really enjoyed. Felt like it was background music
C’est classé parmi les meilleurs albums de tous les temps, et je comprend très bien pourquoi, mais ce n’est juste pas pour moi. Dommage.
70/1001 :: The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses Heard before? ❌ Would I revisit? ✅ Rating: 7 Listen before you die: I think so If I’m being honest I didn’t get a great listen to this yesterday. I know people love this album and my intent is to go back because I liked what I heard. I didn’t love it though. I thought it was good not have to listen before you die amazing. I wonder if with more listens I’ll change that stance.
Some good progressions and melodies and such but a little too meandering for me.
Enjoyed the vibe of this one. Felt kind of light and floaty.
Perfectly cromulent. Some tracks are very good and some quite forgettable. A high 3, but ultimately i think it falls back on an overall sound I find a bit bland with the roomy soft guitars and basic drum patterns.
Crazy how these guys turned doing MDMA into an entire genre. It sure does feel like ecstasy, though, very light and sparkly in a way that's very pleasing to the ears. Kind of feels like what Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine could've been. At some points it gets a little samey and the album as a whole starts to get stale towards the end, but as a whole it was good.
Le habia juzgado por la portada, no me ha enctando por que tampoco me dice muchisimo pero ha sido bastante agradable, la verdad que ultimante estoy poco insipirada con los comentarios. Bien chachi y variado
Interesting. Hadn’t heard.
Not bad, sounds the same throughout
Solid sound, for me not more
I'll admit, that I've never heard of The Stone Roses before today, which makes it a first in this pretty fresh project of mine. My first impression wasn't to great, as "I Wanna Be Adored" bored me pretty immediately and reminded me of a less creative version of 10cc's "I'm Not in Love", but from the song "(Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister", I was pretty hooked. The following songs "Made of Stone" and "Shoot you Down" were also of my liking, while I didn't really care for the "This Is the One". "I Am the Ressurection" and "Fools Gold“ are very strong closers. Overall an interesting album, that is a little too reminiscent of 10cc, the Beach Boys and especially the Beatles, but generally enjoyable, with some cool ideas.
It sounds like something I would like, but didn't quite hit the spot.
I've always seen why The Stone Roses debut album is considered such a classic. It has all the makings of one. There's not a wasted moment, and the production is often 10-15 years ahead of its time. I can't say I love it though. Never been my thing. Totally fine to listen to it, but not favorite of mine. The melodies just don't grab me like they seem to grab so many others, and there's a few moments of grandiosity that come off as cheesy and irritating to me. *Heard before
An interesting release that defined the emergence of the Britpop genre. You can really hear where the early Oasis drew their inspiration from. However, while Oasis immediately grab you with their bold and straightforward sound, The Stone Roses now come across as very modest and enigmatic—which isn't a drawback, they're just different.
3.5
Pleasant, but forgettable

Let's just take a minute to admire this album cover. There's a deep abstraction in greens with very clear citrus references, and red white and blue strokes coming in from the right- leading to a centered band name and album title. The Stone Roses. It took me a minute to imagine a field of roses in petrified rock form, as if caught and stunned by the gaze of Medusa. So the album starts with an obvious display of talents right off the bat. And then.. it maybe loses me. And then it picks me back up. There's a lot of mixed up influences in here, and it can read awkward the first listen through. It makes a lot of sense for this to be an album that grows on you over time. I think there's a very classic rock background that I might personally get tired of easily, that often gets drowned out by talent. Also, that ending? That's how you finish a piece of work, what an outro. I'm very confused about how I feel about this album right now. I might love it later, I might not. I can admit there's a lot of thought and effort put into it and I really appreciate that. Not feeling let down. 3.1/5
Dance pop/rock debut with plenty of catchy hooks. A bit post psychedelic and an album that the band could never quite match.
Me levou de volta a quando eu era garoto e descobri eles, ainda que não achei super incentivo, acho gostoso dms
Positively unremarkable. If this were a restaurant, it'd be O'Charleys or some other casual fine dining chain. It's no one's first choice or favorite, but no one's gonna hate it, either. A perfectly average 3 stars.
It's OK. I can see why my Northern friends go on about the Stone Roses, easy and unchallenging. Very retro considering this was released in 1989. It's halfway between the Beatles and the... Turtles?

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses 1989 Background:The Stone Roses are an English rock band formed in the early 1980s. This first album of theirs received critical acclaim and is by far their most known and recognizable work. Some cite it as one of the most significant English records ever recorded. Interesting to note that the Stone Roses are the third attempt at a band by Ian Brown and John Squire. They became the main faces of the madchester movement when they switched to a more psychedelic rock genre. They also influenced and inspired some great bands, notably Oasis and the Verve Genres and Influences:Their main genres throughout their career were Garage rock, electronic dance music, Kraukrock, Northern Soul and Punk Rock. They have been cited as saying that their main influences include: The Sex Pistols, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Smiths, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Interesting how some of those influences can be seen in this album. Tracks: I wanna be Adored~ At first glance a simple track with a simple meaning. Its stand out being the repeated line: I wanna be adored. For the first 40 seconds of the song its just some strange noises and no particular instruments. The song describes the narrator being possessed by the devil along with an eventual admission of guilt. The song ridicules those who are vainly obsessed with gaining the approval and adoration of others. She Bangs the Drums ~ Their first top 40 hit. Talks about a couple that has fallen out of love. It begins with him talking in the present (him being the narrator) in disdain for his former lover but quickly changes to talking about the past and the joy they used to feel. Waterfall ~ Definitely most recognizable due to its legendary repeating guitar riff. The song's lyrics, though often interpreted as a metaphor for breaking free and starting anew, also carry subtle political undertones, possibly referencing the socio-political climate of the time. Don't Stop ~ The most hated song on the album for good reason. Its lazy and is simply the previous track played in reverse with some new lyrics. It would have been fun for the start of the B side of the disc or as a hidden song but instead its the fourth track. Most people skip it to get to the fifths and it has the least amount of plays in the album. Bye Bye Bad Man ~ Commonly accepted as being a commentary on the 1968 student revolts in Paris against President, General Charles De Gaulle. Ian Brown stated: "Imagine a protester singing [it] in a policeman's face during the Paris riots. Then you'll get some idea what it's about" That pretty much encapsulates the mood of the song. Elizabeth My Dear ~ "“My aim is true / my message is clear / It’s curtains for you / Elizabeth, my dear.” An anti-monarchy message inspired by the Sex Pistols own 'God Save the Queen'. A quick reference to the band's punk roots. (Song for my) Sugar Spun Sister ~ A song about infatuation and the lengths one goes to in pursuit of love, often fueled by youthful naivety and superficial attraction. The lyrics, coupled with John Squire's guitar work, evoke a sense of innocence and the feeling of a special, perhaps even slightly foolish, moment in time. This is the one ~ In 1985 The Stone Roses were locked in a room by their record producer Martin Hannett and told they weren't allowed out until they wrote a song. This tune was the result of this curfew. Like many of their songs this has a number of Biblical references. A bit Nirvana-ish. Almost didn't make it onto the record due to its slight controversies and the fact it was really a song to be performed live. I Am the Resurrection ~ One of the most legendary English closing tracks of all time. One that became a Manchester United anthem all through the 80s and 90s is easily one of the most significant anthem songs to come out of then England. The song lyrics describe a broken down relationship between two people, one of whom is the messiah. The song is told from the messianic narrator’s point of view and reads like a hate letter for most of the song Overall: An album with many influences that went on to inspire many. Iconic instrumentals that stood out at the time. Lyrics commenting on poignant political issues with little worry about repercussions. A distinctly Rock album with traces of Punk. Personally, not one of my favourites but can definitely see where it got off influencing other artists. Final Ranking: Lyrics: 6/10 ~Lyrics that are consistently commenting on poignant political issues and they are easy to relate to for someone living in England at the time Originality: 8/10 ~ We’re talking about a genre defining album. Original songs and instrumentals and a type of music that hadn’t really been seen or popularized at the time Vocals: 6/10 ~ Good vocals but don’t really stand out that much Instrumentals: 8/10 ~ Great instrumentals that bounce off each other to really create the atmosphere and mood of the album. Album Flow/Cohesion: 7/10 ~ Most songs flow into each other apart from the infamous track 3 and 4 combo. The atmosphere is maintained the whole time and the tone is constant
It was alright. The only song that really stuck out to me was Elizabeth My Dear, which I really like, but it was also only a minute long.
Cool record. It's a full atmosphere. It's more psychedelic than I realised. There's some great jams and some fantastic bass work. I don't think it's a good sequencing idea to have waterfall followed by backwards waterfall but maybe that was less grating before waterfall was a huge hit? The jangly indie in the middle of the record lost me a little bit.
6.8/10 I understand why it's good and popular but I don't think it's really for me to vibe with.
Good solid album 3.5/5
I think I’ve listened to these guys once and I wasn’t impressed. I think of them as a noisy Oasis. Well, I’m older and wiser and music genre broader. Let’s see. On a positive note, I’m a minute in and I like it. Ok 5 songs in and I’m thinking a comparison to Supergrass. This is far from anything at the heights of Oasis. I’m not blown away. This may create some new fans but it’s not a stand out album in my opinion. It’s just….there Choice cut: Made of Stone
This album was alright, chill British rock, none of the songs really stood out to me though.
Old school early indie meets the Beatles. Fun, energetic, and not terrible.
I am not sure if I have ever listened to anything from this group before. I like this sound immediately. I really enjoyed this album, will be going back for more.
At first I was real apathetic. Another Brit rock or pop that I've never heard of that doesn't do too much for me? Maybe it was a shift, or maybe I started paying more attention but about halfway through I started enjoying it much more. Tracks 6-10 I really liked, but then it lost steam for me again. I liked the more malancholic lower key songs better. I whish Elizabeth my Dear was a much longer song. Standouts: Elizabeth my Dear, Made of Stone, Shoot you Down, This is the One Rating: 3.5/5
Maybe you needed to be there in late-80s Manchester to get the full extent of its influence I don't know. There are some good tracks on here (I Am The Resurrection is a clear standout) but this doesn't do it for me the way it does for seemingly every music critic ever. Sorry :-(
3.5 stars
better then I remember but not as good as the second one.
3/5 random song that i listened to after this was better so i guess this album is not for me
Okay
A good listen, some of the songs were very enjoyable. Mostly a solid but semi-slow alternative jam band album
While not directly shoegaze I always think if this band in that realm. Anyway, not a bad album. 3/5 #131
Deserving of 5 stars, truly. Only one song that was skippable. Cohesive, powerful album
This list has made me numb to 90's Britrock. I guess this is technically the 80's, but still. It's not bad, but I couldn't pull this out of the post-new wave milieu.
Three absolutely amazing tracks, the rest decent enough for chill listening
I see why it was influential I guess, but nothing stood out.
Pretty good.
Great lyrics, instruments, temporary, pace ,melody etc. All around solid album
This album had the feel of the 60s to the 90s. Really liked the music and his calming vocals. I Am the Resurrection stood out. Don't Stop stood out as terrible. 3.5/5
This was a little bit of a meh album, where nothing exciting really happened, but it was definitely alright as a background listen. If you properly focus on the music, it gets a bit annoying, but if you are busy doing other stuff, it kind of just goes by in the background.
i want to be adored
I bought this the day it came out and at the time was phenomenal. But I I don’t think it’s aged well. Seems a lot of filler on it in retrospect.
The first couple songs were CD 101 (Columbus Ohio's once amazing and now defunct alternative radio station for which I am very indebted for my musical tastes) classics in the 90s. The rest of the album feels pretty boring to me.
i really like the first two and final two songs, but i find the middle to be… okay? fine? the songs don’t quite grab me the same way. i feel like if i listened in a different setting, i might feel differently. 3.5
I liked this as a good, fun bit of Brit pop.
Their singles are top-notch, but the entire album gets boring after a while
Cool band that I’ve never heard before.
I def listened to it but dont remember lol. Its forgettable ig
Easy listening, nice for background, with some experimental bits sprinkled on top.
Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Solide - kann man hören.3/5
Not Bad but also mit for me
Just wasn't feelin it tonight
It was fine. Just fine. Kinda boring.
After yesterday this was just ok
Inventive but thought it was just fine
algun temon pero despues mucho instrumental
Not awful though I could have done without the 10 minute bongo tribute to close out the album.
decently listenable! listened on the drive to the cottage. would play a few of these songs again; need to try to figure out what kind of playlist they would go into
Listened otw to the cottage so not super close attention. Still pretty good from what I heard
"I Wanna Be Adored" é provavelmente a música que mais ouvi esse ano.
Standouts I Wanna Be Adored She Bangs the Drums Waterfall Made of Stone I Am the Resurrection
It's pretty insane how ahead of their time their sound is. 1989 is an insane release year for this record. Same as when you listen to Surfer Rosa or Doolittle. Except that a bunch of the music that was inspired by The Pixies was actually good, and the music inspired by The Stone Roses was...less so.
Not my vibe but I enjoyed it
a bit tired
i liked happy mondays better
The album has a very laidback and chill vibe, even when the lyrics don’t match (looking at you, Shoot You Down). Overall it was an okay listen. Nothing jumped out at me either as great or terrible. 3
The guitars shimmer over the ethereal vocals on (This Is The One is a great example) and their songs seem to unfold delicately to reveal their story.
didn’t listen thru all of it but it seems okay
Started like The Replacements meets The Cure, but got a bit softer and brighter later in the album. Was okay.
The rollin stone temple guns n roses. No wonder I keep mixing them up. Don't think I've heard these guys before, though. It's alright. At times very Beatles inspired. Made of stone gave me a nostalgic feeling in the chorus for some reason. I think it reminds me of another song I can't remember right now. Oooooh, Fools gold. So I HAVE heard stone roses before. Bold move to save it till the last track. Not sure what to give it. It's too good for a 3, but not good enough for a 4. I put it as 3, but it's actually 3.5.
I half agree with Neil Kulkarni. The first three tracks are the best things on this. Made of Stone and I Am The Resurrection are good as well but a lot of the other tracks are pretty forgettable except This Is The One which is irritatingly catchy.
Decent album! Suprised I’ve never heard this band. A very eclectic album with lots of styles. Good background music.
i listened to this and i enjoyed this but also i feel like i didn’t really /listen/ to it. Few songs on there i already knew and liked, always a pleasure
Another UK act from a particular time frame that probably doesn't really deserve a spot on the 1001. That said, these guys aren't bad.
Nice 60s rock feel
Meh. This just has low key Oasis vibes without the catchiness.
Un brit pop muy sofisticado, me hubiera gustado descubrirlo en la época en que salió.
The album wasn’t bad. I’m not sure how influential it was being released in 89 but it was pretty good.
It's fine. Not to crazy and different pretty much sounds the same from everything in this Era.
They didn't want to be the Beatles as much as Oasis, but it's there in some tracks. I've only ever heard the big hits, but this was OK.
Tracks I liked: I wanna be adored, she bangs the drums, song for my sugar spun sister, made of stone, first part of I am the resurrection. Loved the Scarborough fair inspired interlude in the middle. The somewhat dream poppy vibe was cool. Would I revisit this: maybe. Sure.
I want to like it more. Some of the bass lines tell me it's going somewhere, then it doesn't. Honestly it might be my expectation. I thought they were a "harder" sound. Then when I got 80's rock band #3 I went, what?! So I decided I'm going to listen to it again later now that I've got one listen in. Cause right now it's a 2. Alright after another listen I'm happier about the album. It's very chill and great to walk to. I can see myself listening to it again. I suspect this album grows on you. Even though it's not my favorite it is an enjoyable album....
Favorite Track: Shoot You Down
The Monkees or maybe the Byrds, but amped up and fuzzy, with some dance beats and long solos. Plus acid. Even more acid than the Monkees and the Byrds. I know there's a lot of love for this record, but I listened three times today: while there are some huge hooky gems, there is a fair bit of filler. Hate to lose any Anglophilic cred, but I think this album is overrated.
Another one suffused with nostalgia for me, but it didn’t live up to my hype. A few songs are magical, and obviously the sound was super influential for Brit pop, but much of the album is forgettable.
The ur-Oasis, the origins of Britpop, the linchpin of extremely English dudes playing guitar music in the 90s. There’s a lot of muddled middle on this record but on a fresh listen there’s something unassuming and subtle about this one that keeps it apart from some of its contemporaries. These guys don’t sound like they’re desperate to be rock stars, they just have a sound and play it. But it’s not a fully formed sound at this point and I don’t know if it ever would have been.
if they let me create a genre i would call it baggy
I really wanted to love this. It has flashes. But never really comes together.
Mediocre
Nothing stuck out but certainly wasn’t unpleasant
ik vond don’t stop een hard listen, i wanna be adored is wel een bangertje waar ik toen ik 14-15 was veel naar luisterde maar nu beetje beu gehoord (song for my) sugar spun sister vind ik ook wel echt fkn nice, zeker top 3 van het album, heel aanstekelijk i am the resurrection is ook wel top 3 samen met sugar spun sister en i wanna be adored. goed album maar had soms wel de neiging om iets nieuws op te leggen, een andere artiest en album hahahaha, misschien gewoon een te lage attentiespanne en te lang album
I liked this more than I expected. It was poppy, groovy, with some 80s flair.
This style of vocals keep me from liking a lot of bands that get labeled psychedelic rock. Guitar part in Waterfall is catchy. This and Shoot Your Down, This is the One, I Am The Resurrection, Fools Gold are my favorite tracks. Cut it down to just these songs it's a solid 4 star EP. Lots of songs that are objectively good, but overall it's not really for me. Back half of the album just pulled it up to three stars.
First time listening this and I can absolutely hear where many early 00's indie bands got their inspiration. Totally understand why I Wanna Be Adored is rated so high but I was rocking to Made Of Stone and I Am The Resurrection.
Pretty cool but this era really had shitty mixes
I found this reasonably enjoyable although I didn’t think the album necessarily had any standout songs (asides from those that are more well known so they stick in the mind). But it’s a impressive first album, interesting that this was probably the peak of the band’s work. I think what I like most about the sound of the album is the mixing of different eras, there’s definitely some pop 80s in there but aspects of earlier eras like the 60s comes through too.
A solid 3.5/5 album with some interesting entries. Don't Stop and the Backward/Forward compatibility was quite clever to be included in the album. I think certain things were left to be wished like a more lengthier "Elizabeth My Dear" or a less shorter Fool's Gold as it seemed to drag towards the end. Overall it will be bumped down to a 3 with it's rating as it wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other 4s so far.
I liked the overall vibe of the album. Quite fun to listen to. Nice blend of pop rock, psy rock, dance. It feels like a blueprint of 90s britpop and I could see how they would have ended up influencing later groups like Oasis or the Verve. 3.5/5. Fav tracks: I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums,Fools gold I don't like that they're Utd fans though..
Pretty middle of the road stuff
Too distracting to be in the background, but not interesting enough to keep my attention.
Its good but I’m not really feeling it. I think the only song I would listen to is I wanna be adored. (I already knew that one.) Maybe I will listen again later and be really into it but just not my vibe right now.
I was surprised with how many songs I knew on this album. I knew ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ beforehand, but listening through I realized I had heard almost all the songs at some other time before. I enjoyed it, proto Brit-pop, but not something I would go back to turn on again. Fun music to dance to, I guess.
Meh.
I thought this guy was yelling, "I wanna be your dog!" Actually, it's "I Wanna Be Adored." Whatever. Either way, this album is, as the Brits say, yellow wank.
3.5....rounding down because didn't' feel like it had a whole lot of replay-ability.
Rock, ok Haut mich nicht vom Hocker
The song Shoot You Down reminded me so much of the band Summer Salt. A bit weird to hear such an old song remind me of a band in the modern age. This showed that this was just a testament of how songs can be timeless in sound. Unlike most albums on here, it started exciting me toward the end, minus the very repetitive last 2 tracks. Going solid 3 here for the mixed review.
Not even a month in and I’m already at the stage where a rock album is going to have to really impress me to get anything higher than a 3. This is pretty good, but only just pretty good. Nothing to really write home about. As usual, it took me a while to start getting down with it, but I think the ladder half of the album is a LOT better than the top half personally, specifically “Made of Stone”, “I Am the Resurrection”, and my personal favorite “Fools Gold”. The singer sounds ok, the melody is fine, the guitarist can be boring at times and it all just sounds alright as a whole. Another album I probably won’t remember in a bit in all honesty, but hey, it’s definitely still great from top to bottom. Besides being a tad boring in places, I don’t really have any other big complaints with it. I don’t quite understand why this one is so highly rated honestly, but to each their own.
This album is just a solid 6/10. The downside is that all the songs are incredibly similar and don’t really take too many risk. I enjoy that it reminds me of The Cure but it also has that boring Beatles vibe where the songs sound the same. For a first album, I feel like you need to try and make your own sound and they failed to do so.
I’m way behind, I gotta keep this short. Band is ahead of its time this album would probably be on repeat for me if I was the right generation. Fools Gold and I wanna be adored I thought were both great songs exploring unique ideas
I little... soft? for me IDK a type of music I like but not really clicking here. Still not terrible. 6/10
She Bangs The Drums GH nostalgia and a lot of reverb.
This came out a few years before my entry into the 120-minutes-verse, and I was familiar with the first two songs (which are solid) and the general "classic" reputation of the album, thus I was confused as to why the rest of the album was just kind of boring.
I Wanna Be Adored is fantastic. The rest of this album… it's fine I guess
it pains me to give this rating but even if it was boring, i t wasnt bad
Not too many thoughts on this album.
It was surprising, the first song of the album was pretty thematically different from the rest of it. It put me on my heels in trying to pin down a genre, but honestly, I really enjoyed what started playing in the auto-generated playlist after the end of the album. So while I don't know what it was, I'm pretty sure I like it, haha.
I’ve long thought The Stone Roses just weren’t a band for me but there were a few tracks on this album I actually liked
It was a okay, but just faded into background music for me.
Good a few good songs a bit boring though
This starts strong with the shoegazey I Wanna Be Adored - then turns to jangly Madchester crap. Boo!
Not bad. It actually sounds good. But I find it bland and too Beatles "inspired".
Starts off really strong but I do feel the middle of the album meanders and doesn't hold the promise of the first four or so track. Fools Gold is a straight up classic though obviously.
Jangle dance pop. Some songs could use a bit of editing. Highlights: "She Bangs the Drums", "Waterfall" (the guitar arpeggios sound like a waterfall), "Made of Stone" (good guitar and bass interplay, catchy chorus melody. I get Smiths vibes on this one.), "Fools Gold" (more dancey, slight U2 Achtung Baby era vibes) Notable: "Elizabeth My Dear" (it's the tune of "Scarborough Fair" and very short)
Three catchy tracks to open, then 1 that would have been better as a b-side. Descent middle, then a few more good and great ones to finish off. Favorites - "I Wanna Be Adored", "Made of Stone", "I Am the Resurrection." I remember when this album came out. The band hit so big on the college/alternative scene so fast that it kind of soured me on them, though I've always like "Adored." Glad I was given a reason to revisit the album. I wouldn't call it an all-time classic for me, but a solid debut, which helped usher in the Madchester scene to America.
Solid album, starts with some banger tracks, then just settles in for awhile until we get nice 8 and 9 minute jams to end the record. Top 3 Songs: Waterfall (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister I Am the Resurrection
Random thoughts: * feels like this is a bit of a genre mashup making it hard to define: dream pop, jangly guitar, 90s alternative before it happened, 80s alt a la the smiths. * I can see why this is a bit of a hidden gem and don’t get the proper attention it deserved * I listened to this one twice because it was such a good album to throw on.
Late 80s brit pop psych, enjoyed it 3.5
I love a good 3 or 4 songs on this when they come on but never really seek them out for some reason I think a lot of that has to do with the weakness of Ian Brown’s vocals This album is good but it’s not exactly the second coming (as indeed, neither was The Second Coming) She Bangs The Drum, Waterfall and (Obviously) I Am The Resurrection are great. The rest could leave or take
Pretty chill rock album. I remember listening to this when I was young. The next album was more popular amongst my friends but the "alt" kids of the day preferred this album. It's great and very easy to listen to, I'm going to put this on when a relaxed mood hits me.
Enjoyed a lot of the album but nothing really stood out to me. The backwards stuff on Don't Stop really wasn't fun to listen to for me- felt a little too uncanny valley and some of the songs at the end seemed to go on a little longer than I had patience for. Favourite: Bye Bye Bad Man Least: Don't Stop
The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses makes for okay background music on a weekend day filled with chores because like most weekend days filled with chores you want them to be done so you can move on to the fun part. It's an okay album with an attempt to create their own sound only to be drowned out by the oncoming hard rock and grunge alternative train from the US. 3/5
Gitaren
A few stand out moments but a lot of it blended into the background. The vibe was nice but didn't keep me hooked the whole way through.
some brilliant classic songs on here but very front-loaded and not something i'd really listen to as a full album unit
3/5
Not dissimilar to the Happy Mondays, something I liked but it didn’t really grab me. I’ll give it 3 stars but it’s more 3 and a half, because I did enjoy some of this more than I thought I would.
I never got into this band, but was cautiously optimistic. I liked it OK, but it didn’t make me regret having it listened to it yet.
Strong opening tracks, then there’s another couple good tunes spread throughout. Will revisit the classics but nothing else.
Blah...
I was OBSESSED with She Bangs the Drums when it came out, I was in middle school and I only heard it on the radio, never knew its title or band, took me more than a decade before I actually found it, remember how difficult it sometimes was to find the artist behind songs you heard in passing?
Totally fine but forgettable pop rock. Did not really make an impression on me in any way.
boring but not bad
Very cool listen! The Stone Roses provides a very pretty sounding wall-of-sound release that I can see where a lot of bands in modernity got their inspiration from this record. I almost feel like its' sound is the prototype for a lot of shoegaze groups that I listen to today. Not sure if it's a record I'll return to frequently but it was a pleasant listen!
Classic British sound, some great songs. 3, 4, among the best I've heard lately. 5 great aswell, like the lead guitar. I like the lead vocals. The instrumentals are sometimes a bit bland sadly. Go directly to the 2009 remaster. Miles better.
Good record, but not my era
I found this pretty forgettable. Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace, or the impact was such that it set the new bar that all current-day music is easily able to clear.
Preppy Brit Pop from the late 80's / early 90's. This album influenced one of my favorites, BRMC. Coincidentally (or not) the best song on this 1989 album is "Don't Stop," whereas in 2003, BRMC's single from Take Them On was "Stop." What BRMC did was take the psychedelia and add some America grit and attitude. The Stone Roses is an acquired taste for people born in the early '70s.
I don’t think I want to be adored. Loved, yes. But adored? … I don’t adore The Stone Roses. I don’t love them either. But I don’t hate them. “The Stone Roses” was a little bit Britpoppy, a little bit 60s jangly rock, a little bit psychedelic. Apparently that’s representative of “Madchester,” the Manchester indie rock scene in the 80s and early 90s. Not the music style I typically associate with MDMA, but it seems that was their thing - ecstatic dancing to indie pop at clubs. Like their contemporaries The Happy Mondays, it’s decent. Doesn’t quite make me want to dance, doesn’t quite make me want to pop a molly, doesn’t quite make me want to listen again. I’m just not mad for Madchester.
Man I really like the first track, I had such high hopes for the album based on that initial track. Ultimately it didn't live up to my expectations but it ends with a bang. Too bad the middle is just kind of meh.
obvious classic that deserves its reputation some true bangers, very beatles-y song writing with ahead of its time production kind of wish it was mixed better, vocals are drowned but probably a stylistic choice
There was nothing I disliked about this album, but nothing really stood out either. I liked the psychedelic aspects and its 60s sound. In my view, it was better take on British indie than others I’ve heard. I may revisit to see if any songs connect better with me.
Like if The Beatles and The Who had a baby who also were also slightly into shoegaze? Obviously a lot more influences than that, but those are the ones that jumped out at me. Good album, just doesn't hit me like I assume it hits a lot of other people. I'd just rather be listening to The Beatles, The Who, or My Bloody Valentine/slowdive, haha.
Aquele tipo de música que você reconhece da trilha sonora de filmes. Gostoso de ouvir!
It’s ok. Never really understood the hype. Meandering. The backwards track (if that’s what it was) was unnecessary.
1989 feels so late for this sound, it feels like these guys belong in 1969.
OK
meh
I rather liked this dreamy pop, with elements of grunge and of new wave. Nice sound. Not spectacular but a few catchy tunes.
Classic 80s poprock. Mostly not my style... Couple of banger tho: I am the resurrection and foold gold. Solid 2 star album but the couple of bangers make it 3.
I feel like I should have more takes on this than I do. I was expecting a britpop album and it mostly feels like that to me. There were a few Shoegazier/groovier songs that surprised me, and none of it was the truly hateful dregs this genre can sink to.
This is super critically acclaimed and considered super great and I can't figure out why. I remember when it came out, and wasn’t into it then; still not now, but I can appreciate it. 3.5⭐️
I hear the Byrds' jangle, the Beatles' harmonies, and other 60s influences, with a great bass line and wah-pedal guitar ripped from the 80s in most of the tracks. On paper, this should be fire to me, but Ian whats-his-face's vocals are pretty dull, and after a while, the whole album just drags on.
Decent britisk rock, tidlig indie, lidt melankolsk, stadig upbeat
More psych than Brit pop but still not sure what all the fuss is about this album. It just seems a little too comfortable and doesn’t push itself until the last few songs.
This album kinda fucks, best songs are not the singles. Don’t stop is cool too
It's a decent album. The first few song were not very interesting, but the album picks up near the end. Some of the later grooves are pretty good. 2.5/5 Might listen again
A very interesting album as it seems like it is “the” bridging album between the sound of the 80s to what was to come. I have never come across an album that has parts with the 80s synth sound and then moves on to arrangements and music that are still heard now. I’m glad I heard it but I don’t see seeking out more unless they come up in this project again.
This album was pretty solid. The vocals were a bit at times, but the instrumentals were good. The last 2 songs were longer then usual, but they were kinda split up, so it didn't drag, which I also liked. Overall pretty good. 3.5 Liked songs: I Wanna Be Adored, I Am the Resurrection Least Favorite: Fools Gold
Another band I had never heard of but overall enjoyed.
The rehearsal room meets the rave - great vibes and huge sounds. Praise Mani! Gets a bit repetitive.... Favourite tracks: Waterfall, She Bangs The Drums, I Am The Resurrection
Cool album. Kind of feels like a mediator between 80s and 90s rock style. I could give this one a few more listens.
Some pre-listen thoughts, the first track “I Wanna Be Adored” is probably one of my favorite songs oat, so I have pretty high expectations going into this one. The Stone Roses’s self titled record is, in short, nothing fantastic, but pretty consistent in quality with someone generally good vibes throughout the entire project. Most songs follow the same tempo which does make some portions of the album feel a bit sluggish, but that just allows the songs that stick out to be even more special. Instrumentally, it’s about as 80’s and 90’s as it gets, although I do wish the lead vocalist had a little bit more variation in his vocal style. Overall, it was an enjoyable listen that was interesting enough to not make me want to skip songs. Favorite tracks: I Wanna Be Adored, Bye Bye Bad Man, Made Of Stone (I really really really like this one)
Sounds like the 90s version of the smiths but happier. Honestly it’s a shame the band distanced themselves from so young because that is a fantastic song and would’ve added a little more flavor/variety to the album. The little jam at the end of I am the resurrection is very cool though
Kannte ich noch nicht, finde ich gefällig.
Liv top songs: -I wanna be adored -Bye Bye Bad Man -I Am the Resurrection -Fools Gold
It was fine.
Apologies The Stone Roses, I was unfamiliar with your game. 3.5/5 Standout tracks: - Bye Bye Bad Man (4/5) - Elizabeth My Dear (5/5)
I like the sound. It has aspects that remind me of every decade from the 60s through the 90s. I think if it listened to this a few times I would really like it.
