Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Nothing I could really appreciate. Sleepy pop with no hooks.

Constant craving is a great song, was a real boost at the end of the album, pitty you had to go through the whole album to get to it. Rest wasn’t my cup of tea.

Weinig aan. Ze heeft een prima stem, maar de muziek grijpt me niet aan.

Pretty boring, but I did like that once song

I got to KD, and her song writing partner Ben Mink, via Shadowland (produced by Owen Bradley) and Absolute Torch and Twang, both of which I cherish to this day, wonderful times and a lovely part of the late eighties, a corner of pop music that was still ok. For some reason I struggled with Ingenue, it was pretty low fi, one dimensional. I remember giving it away to someone who expressed an interest, something I never do as a rule. I think it is her vocal style, I'd heard her through those two earlier albums and this just didn't add to that experience, possibly unfair I know. She has a bit where she goes to the higher register and it becomes very formulaic. So, listen to this before you slip off to the never never? I dunno. Wash My Soul is beautiful, a great performance with a great tune. Constant Craving is a fine pop song, again her sometimes striving vocal delivery grates a tad. That said the strength of the tune itself is brilliant, as exemplified by Glen Matlock's cracking cover version.

Nine songs of longing with the same vocal phrasing.

constant craving is on this album but it isn't the cool club remix all the other songs are her just singing for a while 2.5

Zzzzz...

Not really my cup of tea. 2/5

Only 1 song got a thumbs up

Not for me

Just had "69 Love Songs" yesterday, and this somehow felt longer than that. Boring crooning for boring people. Obviously a talented singer or whatever, but I can't keep my eyes open listening to this.

Is it a bird? Is it a dude? Whatever it is, it's getting a 2

not my thing

Nah not for me

Dull album with not masses going for it

It's just so depressing. Top song - Constant Craving

the last song is ok and that's why this album isn't 1*

Nice i guess, but a little boring

Lovely voice and production but its all a bit easy listening lounge music. Dull dull dull.

Pretty boring album, just too lightweight and MOR for my taste.

I remember enjoying this some back in the day

k.d. has a lovely voice, for whatever my opinion on that is worth. If I had to listen to a bunch of slow songs back-to-back (as I just did), I think I'd prefer they follow the stripped-down simplicity of 'Wash Me Clean'. There are so many non-essential parts and finishes on the other tracks!

I mean, it's not the worst album on this list? But I can't honestly say it was good. I found the weird, almost-kinda-country vibe pretty off-putting. But luckily, that's only an occasional annoyance. Unfortunately, when it's not annoying, it's just boring. Just... very bland overall. It's not enough to fail the album as a whole but it's also not enough to give it a pass.

Tja, wat vinden we van deze lesbopop? Het is wel aardig, maar kabbelt ook een beetje voort. Wat dit een beetje mist is, excusez le mot, ballen.

Like her vocals, but the backing tracks are awful, was a tough listen at points

It's okay

A real lush production but its oh so Radio 4

Fav songs: - constant craving

k.d. lang has the kindest-sounding voice. I recall this album and I enjoyed some of the country-western cabaret feel to it. That’s all I’ve got.

Coole artiest maar wat flauwkes qua muziek imo

Her voice is fine, but her song writing is mediocre. Constant craving is good but the rest of the album is one note. Perhaps this appeals to the wine drinking mommy set?

It’s fine background music, just not me

Very calm chill album

Constant craving good, rest of album not memorable.

Not for me

Had its moments. Relaxing

Mellow Not my taste

Niet zo gek van dit album. Beetje eentonig

Skeptical from the outset... here we go! ... nice enough, just not really my style.

Her voice is nice but the songs are kind of boring

Awful.

Don't listen to this if you need to stay awake. Well I don't dislike this as much when it first came out but that's not saying much. Some odd blend of country and cabaret.

Constant Cravings stands out in this otherwise boring album.

This is pretty darn boring, and not something I will put on again. Didn't HATE, but did not enjoy it, either.

Not my thing

Less country than the other album from the same artist I got here on the list, but still annoying. The three last songs are at least a little enjoyable, but the whole album is not!

This is good if you like that sort of thing, but I don't, so I find it a little twee.

Cabaret country? It's certainly interesting but a combination of two things I'm not terribly favorable on is a tough sell.

It’s not offensive or anything, but not my cup of tea.

pretty but boring

I really like k.d. lang's voice, I just always wish it was singing something else. Love the voice, don't care much for the songs. (But I do like it when she covers other people's songs.)

Nothing really here than stood out or got me going. The last song sounded familiar but this didn’t do it for me.

Aika löysää paskaa... Ei nyt ainakaan aamulla tuntunut löytyvään mitään tarttumapintaa. Mitäänsanomatonta ja lötköö. 2/5

Gähn. Constant Craving ist ganz ok.

not well-aged

Never got into this album at the time and have the same experience listening to it now - a couple of songs are quite strong though and vocals are excellent.

Just more country MOR stuff… find it extremely difficult to get anything but bored with this type of music.

Great voice, nothing really interesting other than that. Songs didn't really appeal to me.

13th January 2022 Listened on my phone in the morning while showering etc before heading back to London in the afternoon. Didn't mind it, she has an amazing voice but overall not really my bag.a bit too draggy.

2 stars. Nice voice but I didn't care too much for the songs

I was in a calm mood, so this was clicking some. Its a bit country-ish with the steel guitar and twang, but much better than the regular old country. im thinking a 2-3. pleasant surprise. I may give it another listen

Really solid voice, but not a fan of this kinda cabaret muzak stuff. Feels like the soundtrack to pretending to be artsy. Constant craving (the only song I'd heard before) is the most upbeat by a mile, the rest really subdued. 2/5.

Enjoyable

This is too smooth for my tastes. Very competent but mostly forgettable.

Beautiful but too sleepy for me. I do find some of the compositions interesting but not enough for more than a cursory listen Saved: Miss Chatelaine, Constant Craving*

You can draw a line through Vera Lynn then Shirley Bassey to arrive at k.d.lang. From the 'big note' school of lounge room crooning. I tried to like it, but it's not for me. Constant Craving was OK for the first 70 million plays, but is just tiresome now.

meh, no me volvió loca pero fue decente para ser la primera vez que lo escucho.

Pleasantly surprised with this album. Didn’t think it was overall great but it had a nice tone, the singers voice is soothing and sounds wonderful. As for the songs they didn’t impress me but they sounded nice. 5.6/10

Kinda boring to me. Lang ain't my thang?

she has a really beautiful voice, but will probably not come back to this. This is very much something my parents would have listened to in the car when we were young

Which cruise line is right for you? Princess Cruises is supposed to be nice. I've gone on Norwegian when my rich grandmother paid for all of us to take a cruise for Christmas, and it is top-notch - that I can say that from personal experience. Carnival? - meh, I don't do keg stands or have little kids anymore but there was a time in my life that would've fit. I think your best chances of running in to K.D. Lang would be on Norwegian cruise lines. It's the cruise line for old people with lotsa money and a taste for vanilla. I bet she's the house music on all Norwegian cruises and probably performs for the young gray hairs at least once a week. I wonder how they get her from ship to ship. Or if she has to disembark, embark the way that normal passengers do. I would expect that from Wilson-Phillips, but not sure about the KDL. I found Ingenue perfect for the early '90s., KDL had some serious fashion style back then, yes she did. Her music right on par with a Norwegian cruise, very adequate on Gram's dime, but nothing you'd pay extra for. Regardless, after a long year quarrantining things are looking up and I'm sure there are a lot of excited people ready to be confined to a boat in hopes of running into the KDL. For me though, it's more likely you'd find me on a Carnival cruise binge drinking, avoiding my kids and constantly craving for solid ground than listening to this album again.

No me ha dicho nada...

I really don’t have much to say about k.d. lang. (Any relation to Brian Lang?) She has a nice voice, but it’s all so subdued. I don’t even have the right language to talk about the style of this album, I think. I will echo, though, that the hit single “Constant Craving” sounds quite different from the rest of the record. Mostly I was bored by “Ingenue,” nothing here grabbed my attention. It was capably made, and inoffensive, but didn’t stand out. I feel like there are a thousand other albums out there that sound much like this one without the same level of attention.

I like her voice and constant craving is still good but I really didn’t like the other songs on the album. Just not my sound.

Pleasant enough and inoffensive, but not something I would seek out to listen to in the future. K.D.’s voice is good, which I appreciate. However, musically this album is quite boring for me. I almost fell asleep walking to the metro. To end on a positive note, Miss Chatelaine is a decent song.

Not really my style, but it was ok. I'm not really even sure what kind of music it was to be honest.

Really enjoyed Miss Chatelaine, but that’s about it.

Heard about this woman previously on an Atmosphere track called 'Idiot' , Slug referenced her in some lyrics haha. Incidentally the first track sounds like it has influenced some of the later atmosphere beats that are more soft/chill. Nice singing and songs but not really my thing at all. So, 2/5

Felt a bit indifferent to this, good singer, some enjoyable parts of music her and there but only enjoyed 2 songs significantly

Almost really liked it. No rush to listen again though.

great voice, and actually alright (was dreading this). Not in a hurry to listen again, but can see how it did so well. Syrupy production.

A little dull

Didn’t love—I think it didn’t age well. Great voice and sweet songs, but not a huge fan of the songwriting style at places or the way the songs were put together. Mostly personal preference. It did have moments that surprised me, like “the mind of love”

Boring.

not bad, quite enjoyable but drags pretty soon and is quite irrelevant

Gentle folk pop. Not constantly craving it but constant craving is decent enough.

Didnt really dig it very much. While the music is fairly beautiful, it feels very surface level in a way.

Not a big fan to be honest

Crap. One extra point awarded for constant craving

This album sounds like the '90s, but a specific corner of the '90s that I don't normally listen to. I had never heard of this artist before, and not even the top single sounded familiar. Honestly, it's just not for me.

Dreadful... there's nothing that can make me listen to this in full. 'Constant Craving'? Don't think so. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Some (not much in fairness) Revisit ❌️ ★☆☆☆☆(2/10) Total reviewed : 357 Already owned : 79 Purchased : 16 To buy : 4 Nope : 258

Aburrido.

Cabaret music was terrible when it was fashionable: mindless paste completely without interest, fun or merit. Why, why, WHY would you attempt to resurrect it?

not for me!

Dreary dreary me

My aesthetic inclinations do not align with Madam Lang.

Second album proposé par le générateur, aussi ennuyeux que le premier. =>1/5

I wanted to like it, but that didn’t even get me past the first song.

Absolutely not for me.

On s’ennuie je trouve

Never listened. Expectations: None - Verdict: Dislike - This isn't exactly blowing me away but I guess it's vaguely nice. A few tracks in and I'm a bit bored. So It Shall Be is OK I suppose. Outside Myself is decent but goes on slightly too long.

Beautiful voice, but not my vibe

I thought this may of been ok to listen to whilst driving to work as a bit of a chilled vibe. It just got under my skin, it felt like one song. It just didn’t have anything to offer me.

Not for me

She’s got a nice voice but this smooth 90s adult contemporary just doesn’t do it for me. It’s drab and I’d prefer to turn it off. The little cabaret-influenced bits have some ok moments, but overall it’s gonna be a no for me dawg.

Ho hum, another dull album to wade through. 'Constant Craving' is about the only song worth one listen. The rest is just tiresome bilge.

not for me.

77 minutes of trying not to fall asleep.

Adult Contemporary

This really just isn’t for me at all. Constant Craving is by far the best song on the album and I have never liked it. I just prefer some energy in my music.

1.4 1x not good and not interested to listen again.

1.4/5 Can't say I enjoyed this. She's a good singer and the music was fine but I nearly fell asleep listening to this.

I mean the first album was alright but this was like all over the place and was super flat and boring and will be very forgettable

Singing. 1/5

Not my jam

Couldn't be more bored.

Album 28 /1001 Apart from Outside Myself and the Johnny Marr esque guitar twang on Constant Craving, this really didn't do it for me. Sorry k.d. 🤷‍♂️ Though, you have inspired me to change my name. From this moment forth I shall be known as ed.d coppin (all lower case). Cheers, folks. 😎

I actually didn't listen to this album and never will. She just isn't my style of music

I’m really finding that this stripped back production only works for me when the singer has the vocal energy to back it up and k.d. lang doesn’t have it. This is not helped by how long this is. Truly a tedious listen, tho I am willing to give this album some flowers for “Outside myself” and “Constant Craving”, those are not enough to elevate it much, but hey, one goodish song with energy is better than none.

No, thank you.

If Norah Jones is a digestive biscuit - bland enough to dissolve before you’ve even noticed it’s in your mouth - and Céline Dion a vat of schmaltz dumped over your dinner, then k.d. lang’s Canadianised Americana, adulterated with Métis accordions and Parisian torch song touches, falls somewhere between the two. It's more butter than straight schmaltz and most of that is on the lens that took the soft-focused cover photo. But, as it happens, a digestive biscuit slathered in butter is a quiet indulgence of mine: humble at base, but I'm willing to let several make me sick. The songs themselves are so earnestly intimate they border on the absurd, but lang’s soft masculinity is charming, like a teenage girl's sexless love object. There's no threat here. The production is polished, though full of questionable choices. So too with the composition: on Season of Hollow Soul, lang repeats the same grammatical error as on Live and Let Die. It's faintly embarrassing, but it's preferrable to some of the more banal sentiments. You quickly learn the lesson of too much seemingly humble indulgence. 1.5 k d lang’s singing voice is as nondescript a voice as I’ve ever heard. So marked is the effect of vocal blankness that I feel a pang of doubt about writing that because despite having just listened to ten of her songs I can’t recall her voice at all. I am just left with the odd realisation that the English language has no power to capture positively what k d does. The defining qualities are only what isn’t there; accent, personality, edges, colour, air, life. She sang. There is so much else to not care about remembering here. Were there drums? I have no idea. There could have been lots of instruments - I have flashing recollections of violins, double bass, accordion - but their presentation was so clean and precise that they had an unreal quality. Like the bowl of plastic fruit my granny kept on her dining room table. It looked so real. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t. I tried a grape. Later I tried another grape just in case there had been a plastic one there by coincidence the first time. Every grape must have been a fake. The most plastic effect on Ingénue is k d when she does her backing vocals. They map so precisely to the main line and with so little variation in the ease of delivery whether up or down her range that they simply repulse. There is too much control here. Too little air allowed in. It leaves the impression of a very sanitary album. If there were real instruments none of them had any oul pathogens on them. All was safe and inoffensive. I do remember being slightly offended by The Mind of Love. It felt like a weak send-up of Joni Mitchell’s Jonicentrism. Mitchell was self-obsessed sure, but a great artist in her self-interrogations, certainly always good enough that she could never have written anything as trite as: ‘Surely help will arrive soon/ To cure these self-induced wounds/ Why hurt yourself Kathryn?’ So k d’s sneering joke didn’t land as far as I’m concerned. SNL-level stuff. It was meant to be a joke right? Well I don’t really care, let’s forget about it along with almost everything else here. Almost. Because there is one thing that will stay with me from this record. I was in the middle of listening to Season of Hollow Soul. I was thinking that this must already be one of the worst songs I had ever heard; a ghost of some forgotten German cabaret number tortured, half-captured in a summoning circle of pure bleach. Then the sudden wail of the clarinet. I should have seen it coming of course - the genre markers were there. Yet I felt a shiver of anticipatory horror go through me as when a slight, blurred movement in the background of the camera shot shows that the killer is in the house. ‘This couldn’t possibly be about to get worse,’ I told myself in that moment. The grotesque klezmer joke - the sad clown doing the deflating balloon about 6 times in a row - then the song immediately returned to its putrid chorus and hook, like a dog to its vomit. Later I actually listened again with the lyrics up to confirm that Season of Hollow Soul is indeed, objectively, one of the worst songs ever written and I should know because I’ve written a few of them. So that’s not nothing. Even if it’s a bit worse. 0.5/5

early 90's easy listening musak

I’m sure some people vibe to this and find this kind of music appealing, but I am not one of those people.

Oh my God that was awful.

Starting off Save Me arrives with a whimper and lyrically it's the kind of song that wants to be important and loved by everyone but K.d. Lang's voice grows irritating to me sounds whiny. It's a boring album that soccer moms and Karens listen to too make themselves seem cool but the album just plods along without offering anything to the listener but frustration for wasting their time on this crap. I couldn't even finish the damn album. Constant Craving is an awful song. It's the kind of crap you'd hear in Pottery Barn when it's full of people and you can't find a way out.

I really hated this. Whiny and dull. A terrible combination.

(Fart noise)

Bland.

Constant craving aside - I still do not get it - sorry

I tried really hard. Not my thing.

A truly painful listening experience. Favourite songs: Outside Myself Least favourite songs: most of this album 1/5

I don't like the album because its more like sad song doesn't hit the spot. But that's just my opinion and also don't like lyircs I don't understand what there saying. don't recommend it. sounds like old type music like back in the day.

Do you like Jazz country slow music? I really don't because I like music that is fast, and I rarely like Jazz. Also this is kinda like a love album. I don't like love songs either. So that is why I don't recommend this album.

I think this album is kind of bad. I don't really like the beat of the songs in the album or how slow it is. I don't recommend this song to people who like faster songs.

I fell asleep. It was great nap music.

So extremely boring and whiney. Couldn't get past the first 3-4 songs.

boring

kd. Krap dump. One of the most boring things I’ve ever heard.

Oh my god this is so boring

not my style of music and i didn't like his voice

Did not care at all for this album or her other works.

Um álbum muito dependente do vocal da artista, e eu não consegui gostar do mesmo. Instrumentais genéricos, melodias muito pouco interessantes e no geral uma experiência bem vazia Fav tracks: n/a Least fav track: Miss Chatelaine

Actually couldn't listen to it all.

Album #15 Listening to paint dry. Interesting to compare all the other songs to the charted song "Constant Craving" as I have never heard the other songs. What made CC more appealing to the masses compared to the other tracks as they all sound the same to me now? As consumers are we trained to like a song by the constant air play (especially 30 years ago when all we had was radio play) because in my opinion after listening to the entire album, all the tracks including CC is like listening to paint dry but CC evokes an emotional/situational memory because of the radio play.

Not a fan of KD Lang

Not a fan

meh kind of bored

I honestly liked her first record way better. This one feels like it sorta loses the plot. The production is better, but I liked the style of the first so much better. This one came off as very repetitive. Favorites were Save Me, Miss Chatelaine, and Constant Craving.

El cenizo pelúo éste quién es?

Don't think I'm the target demographic for this sort of bland nonsense so it's not too surprising that I struggled.to engage with it.

I hate this album. I tried my damnedest to get through it.

A cross between country music and elevator music. Not good.

I don’t like KD Lang’s music. Could have taken a nap while listening. So very boring.

Constant Craving oli suunnilleen perus-ok ralli, mutta tämä artisti nauttii banaaliudesta niin paljon, että hänelle tuskin tulisi edes mieleen säveltää toista vastaavaa.

Not for me

Zooooooooo saaaaaaaaaaaiiii en troosteloos. Dit zou verboden moeten worden.

A one or one.five

Listened from the other room and that was already too much. Blergh

I hate it

Just blows. What a terrible album. Would go negative if I could.

Not for me.

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

Music for a dentist’s office.

Yes. It's pop.

Couldnt continue listening to it, very dull

This album was not great. Constant Carving sounded familiar. I did not particularly care for this album. It was only 42 minutes but that in itself seemed a little long. I did not skip any songs but that is mainly because I was playing Tetris. My Tetris playing did decrease during the listening of the album. It was better than a one but not really a two. I will round down.

not my thing honestly

This one doesn’t have enough goin on

Not a fan of this at all.

new music but a huge meh too much old lady like for me to enjoy

Verste dritten. Ikke gi meg mer.

PogTrash

its been a while since we had something i dislike as much as this. fucking awful.

I once sexed k d lang so hard, her ass prolapsed into oblivion. It was a fun Tuesday morning. Nobody died.

Utterly shit lesbo non-music. Made me sick. Did not listen.

Dull, middle of the road, one paced music for middle aged Volvo driving, geography teachers. Calling it beige would be a disservice to the colour beige.

no! none of it. i'm not even sure I'm going to be able to finish this. fate must have a reason. why ELSE endure this album?

What's the most boring thing you can think of? You're wrong. It's this. Best Tracks: Save Me; Miss Chatelaine; Constant Craving

какая-то софия ротару я не слушаю такое

Très chiant!

Not for me. I can't find any significance in this album whatsoever. There's nothing memorable here for me, even in the slightest, and I can't even suggest it's a good album. Perhaps it's just a snapshot of a weird moment and style in musical history.

F'n Boring

Not for me. With the exception of that one cheesy song that might be good in a skate edit

Worse than I could have ever imagined.

This is a weird album. I know constant craving. Most of the other songs on the album sound totally different and have an odd bossa nova thing going on that I didn’t expect.

Not my thing.

not for me.

Thought it was a bit pretentious tbh. Might be worth another listen but I was left feeling just meh.

Rubbish

Nice voice. Crap songs.

Snorkolini

KD - I am embarrassed for you. This is so sappy. I don’t believe in cancel culture but if I did the first thing I would cancel is this album.

I forgot I was listening to this while it was on, the musical equivalent of a draught on your neck in a restaurant. The last one about how hungry she is is ok.

Listened to more than half, but then quickly skipped through the rest as I couldn't take it any more. Not for me. Though Constant Craving is a good song.
