Reviews (page 6 of 7)

I don't care how good her voice is, I've sat through math lectures more entertaining than this.

At least it was short.

No. Please, just no.

Bar a passage or two, this did nothing for me. Favorite track: Save Me

Blind album and artist. This might put me to sleep behind the wheel one day.

I definitely think the album gets better during the middle to end, still thrives this love is a perfect song to break up the otherwise mediocre start of the album, I just love that latin instrumental makes me dance 💃. I wouldn’t listen to it again, however I understand the nostalgia around it and it’s a good album :)

Another KD Lang album? One wasn’t enough I suppose. Zzzzz.

Nothing really hooked me. It’s musically solid, but felt a bit basic

I like that one track, couldn't really care for the rest of the album

Better than the other one, but I still can't enjoy her stuff.

Nothing special tbh. I did get a trivia question right because I listened to this one but other than that, meh.

Gute Stimme aber langweilige Musik

Just too slow and meaningless for me.

Released in 1992, this was k.d. lang’s pivot away from her roots into a sophisticated, more adult contemporary sound. It sounds to me like music I would hear as background music in a fancy restaurant. It feels like the tracks blend together into one long, slow-tempo song. Just not the music I would put on for myself to listen to.

I like her voice and so forth but there are thousands of great singers. I didn't find the material very challenging or outstanding. I'd hope she has a better legacy but if not then just listen to the singles.

Nice voice but pretty boring and no standouts for me.

Found it a bit uninspiring, the only track I mildly liked was the last track, which had a bit more zip to it. I won't be buying the cd.

There's some good stuff here, it's just not anything I really want to come back to. Certainly pleasant enough though.

k.d. lang threatens to be interesting. It's nice sounding but nothing memorable.

It's quite bad. It's not as bad as the other album which is nakedly country music, so this one gets 2 stars

Interesting and unique production for a "country" record, which was nice. However, the laid back and frankly slow tracks just never resonated with me.

Country/pop singer with unique voice. Some good music.

k.d. lang's ingénue may be perfectly not my thing and yet so close — for a brief moment there was some contiguous territory with the acoustic album by everything but the girl and yet this compels me not.

Yawn... Very middle of the road. Not sure why I needed to hear it before I die...

Boring and dated. There’s good production and a lot that’s musically interesting (“Season of Hollow Soul” is a high point), but it turns out to be way less than the sum of its parts.

Average background music with above average vocals. 2.5 star

- She has a beautiful, smooth, clean vocal tone. - The album, though, was disappointing. The songs don’t pull me in at all. It mostly feels very EZ listening & sleepy. No real hooks or anything particularly memorable. There’s not a lot of energy. - Constant Craving is the noteworthy outlier. - I like the second half of the album more than the first half - it gets a little more interesting around So It Shall Be - the orchestration/instrumentation picks up with some strings, winds, and synths. That said, I can’t ever imagine reaching for the album, and I don’t remember any of the songs.

Constant Craving still sounds good after all the years. The rest of the album is pretty dull by comparison. Very vanilla.

Synes k.d. lang er overvurderet. Meget lækkert, temmelig kedeligt.

Fine but a bit boring.

She has a great voice. But her songs are kind of blah. mostly pop goo. Country? Nah... 2 stars

Just not my thing at all. I’m likely not the target audience.

Woof. Some lounge singer bullshit

A damsel in distress.

Not the style for me

This album is proper 90s mum music. It was a fine album, but didn’t really speak to me. Found that some of it like he in a film, maybe mama Mia or some sort of romantic comedy. Just not something I am particularly interested in.

She has a nice voice, but it’s not for me.

Easy listening. Great vocals. Wouldn’t come back to the album again as it all sounded the same aside from maybe a few songs.

Do you know the feeling when you're driving a car with a tiny petrol engine up a hill and go "come one, a little bit faster, come on, you can do it!" That's the feeling I have listening to this album. I don't mind slow music (some of the minimalist classical I love is way slower than this) but this album just feels out-of-place slow, almost on purpose to annoy me. KD Lang has an excellent excellent voice but I really dislike how she constantly slides into notes. The songs are quite "meh" too. Sorry KD, I think you're a lovely person, but this is not a "1001 people you need to have a pint with before you die" list.

Pleasant voice, reasonable melodies, but not a ton to grab me.

2/5 - Snooze-croon adult contemporary. Not for me.

I was bored.

I was quite harsh on the other Lang album on the list. I guess it comes back to the aged old question, why does this artist need 2 albums on this list when others dont get one? This one is fine. Perhaps a little bland. Picks up towards the end. High 2?

Nah for me. Except her voice is pretty good. And Im doing no sugar November so Constant Craving hit a lil too close to stomach.

Not super memorable for me

1. Save Me - 5 It's okay. Vocally it's very good at times but the higher pitches lose the lyrics a bit. Instrumentally it's slow but effective. 2. The Mind of Love - 2 Instrumentally between the verses is very good but the lyrics are quite dull. The entire sound is corner hipster coffee shop vibes. It's not a great track. 3. Miss Chatelaine - 8 Very fun track but some amazing vocals and lyrics on them. The upbeat tempo and vibe are very refreshing and welcoming. 4. Wash Me Clean - 1 It's not a great sounding track. Notes are held for too long and the song is just way way way too slow. It's very boring. 5. So It Shall Be - 3 Instrumentally it builds well but the rest of the track is very lacklustre. Lyrically it's not anything phenomenal and seems very cookie cutter. 6. Still Thrives This Love - 3 It's more of the same problem that The Mind of Love suffers from. Instrumentally it's a lot better than that track however. 7. Season of Hollow Soul - 1 The track eventually turns into three minutes of the chorus and "la la las" repeated over and over. Very bad track. You could just straight skip listening to it on the album. 8. Outside Myself - 1 The second part of the this track has the exact same problem as the last one. In terms of their composition they're almost carbon copies of each other. 9. Tears of Love's Recall - 2 Almost like The Mind of Love redux. Lyrically it's a little weak but instrumentally it can put you to sleep. 10. Constant Craving - 4 Much better than the last three tracks but nothing really phenomenal and it would be a pass over track on another album. Average Rating: 3.00 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 1.50 Rounded Up: 2 Stars

KD Lang, huh? Assuming this will be the one with Constant Craving on it. Everyone loved that back in the day, me included. Why did I assume she was Scottish? Let's have a listen... The rest of this, thankfully short album, is as dull as get out. She has a nice, bland voice. But it's a voice you'd hear in any lounge bar in any club in any city in the world. The songs are the very definition of meh. Sometimes one hit wonders are precisely that. This is music to drown in the bath too. Live. Laugh. Love.

Highlights: Still Thrives This Love, Constant Craving, The Mind of Love. In a nutshell: "post-nuclear cabaret" I think what makes kd lang so compelling to listeners is how she projects the songs with emotion, not just volume. She feels the lyrics and the music. This type of jazz/folk/country combo doesn't do much for me. The impact lang made on music culture, specifically in Canada, cannot be ignored. Overall: 4/10

snoooore

This was enjoyable but as a whole fell flat. I listened to the whole thing and finally a song stuck out. Atomic Numbers (Neko Case, kd lang, Laura Veirs)! Only to find out that song is the first song Spotify suggested after the album finished. I may give this another listen to sometime, the genre is in my wheelhouse but didn't resonate.

Favorite tracks: Miss Chatelaine, Outside Myself, Season of Hollow Soul A beautiful voice on a largely unforgettable album, unfortunately. Many of the songs either blurred together or quickly became (very pleasant) background music. I had to keep relistening to songs that I missed just to get some favorite tracks listed.

meh. I've heard worse. It's fine but it definitely has a boring factor that puts it in twosville for me. Lacking in creative songwriting, the melodies aren't that catchy, the instrument playing wasn't anything great.

Her voice is amazing, but all her songs are so boring, I haven't finished any.

I get that the talent is there, but these songs are staler than the unsalted crackers in the back of your grandma's kitchen cabinet that she bought on sale in 2003, in case the guests wanted something with their tea. Well the only guest was the plumber, and grandma's crackers were not what he was after, if you catch my drift. So the crackers were left uneaten, just as k.d.'s talents were left unfulfilled. But not grandma's. When she seductively dropped her dentures into the saline solution, no amount of Lilth Fair fare would prevent our heroic plumber from plugging up grandma's leaky drain. And when the job was done, beaming satisfaction eminated from them them, while you, the poor grandson or granddaughter, sat in the basement miserable, listening to k.d. lang playing a game of grand theft genre that would make Paul Simon proud.

Not much about this country pop album stuck with me. Very polished and sanitised in terms of sound. Can imagine it being very popular but overall sounds inoffensive and forgettable.

It’s good for what it is, but stylistically it just not something I gravitate towards. 2 plus stars but it’s not getting rounded up to 3 for me.

Really not my thing. I really didn't find anything here that leapt out or made me want to hear more. It's a me thing, not a kd thing.

There are elements to this album that I liked, K.D.'s voice had some really nice tones and played well over the music. The vibe overall was relaxing and layered. All that being said, this really isn't my jam but I can understand why people like it.

Etwas mehr Abwechslung (Stil, Instrumentierung, Arrangement...) hätte dem Album gut getan. So plätschert etwas langweilig vor sich hin.

First I will say she has a great voice, but this is adult contemporary music which is not my bag. It has a cabaret feel, almost amusement park like music in parts. It is well produced and the music sounds clean.

Starts as smooth jazz, ends as a jazz club, but feels hollow all the way through. Beautiful voice but that’s it.

I just can't with this. I don't think it's 1 star worthy to me, but it's not worth much more. I remember why I never listened to k.d. lang in the 90s. I would call out something atrocious, but it was so boring I've already forgotten almost everything from the album.

Boooorrrrrrinnnnggggg

Rating: 5/10 Meh.

It’s fine I guess. Kinda soft, kinda boring

This one didn’t quite resonate for me. The songs all sounded kind of the same and it felt like country easy listening. Not what I go for and it never hooked me. Ehhh 🤷‍♀️

These alternative country albums, man

Adult contemporary is a hilarious genre name. It's like she want trying to make music. This album is like she isn't even trying.

I can't deny that she has talent, but I just find this album to be overall so uninteresting that her talent feels really wasted. I think that she has a great voice, and that is definitely what keeps me the most invested in listening to this, but the complete lack of anything else interesting going on is so hard to look past.

I really struggled with this album. I tried really hard to like this album but it did nothing for me. It felt like something you'd hear in a starbucks in the 90s. She's clearly very talented but her sound just doesn't resonate with me. At times it was a tedious listen. I don't know how else to describe it other than "boring". Feels bad to say that. Just not for me.

Meh. Kind of lounge music vibes. Soft easily forgettable. Was getting ready for a funeral when listening to, so a bit distracted. That being said, nothing about the music commanded my attention away from my own thoughts. It was just a little boring for my tastes

It should be impossible for an album to be simultaneously this boring and this annoying.

For me, it was boring - but I don't think this is bad. Just not something for me.

What I gleaned from this is that k.d. lang is an extremely talented musician but that I don't particularly enjoy her music. This album is very cabaret but with spatterings of country and Americana. I can't say it was bad, but just a bit milquetoast and most of the songs blended together so that as I write not much stood out. I'm not sure why this warrants a place on the list.

Hard to justify listening to this instead of Linda Ronstadt if I’m in the mood for a lightly latin-inspired singer-songwriter vibe

I like her voice. I don't understand the purpose of the music. Boring to me. Sounds pro though. Favorite song: constant craving.

Never heard of her, good pop voice, was interesting in parts. All in all was a bit too bland to grab me, voice was the main attraction and the music was never allowed to get in the way. Not bad but not for me.

Hadn't heard of k d Lang before. It's nice enough, but it was pretty dull. Reminded me a bit of everything but the girl. Overall not really my thing, but it isn't bad

More country than I expected; it didn’t help.

Starts out nice, but falls off fast and gets boring for me. Perhaps it's the fatigue of catching up with 2 weeks of albums in the past 3 days. Het voice is beautiful and the music suits it well. I can see how this would catch on in a time with artists like Celine Dion.

I can tell that she is talented, but this just isn’t my kind of music. Pretty average to me. 2.5/5 Won’t listen again

The two hits are nice wee tunes but, with the best will in the world, the rest is dull. Next!

Her voice is kinda like a female crooner. It's a little cheesy for my taste. Musicianship is solid. Very smooth listening, felt like good for a rainy day, but not my speed. Didn't add any tracks to my liked list.

It was alright. Not my favourite.. Not unique enough I think!

Insanely boring. Stopped 2/3rds way through. 2/5

Not for me

Meh. Its a relaxing album one song sets the tone for all. Good voice and lyrics but too similar all songs.

If you fall asleep after Save Me and have a nice nap of around half an hour you can wake up in time to hear Constant Craving. There's a lot for MOR country/pop in between which isn't offensive but didn't grab me either. I feel like this album is tastefully produced but that's not necessarily a good thing, it sounds a bit sterile and formulaic which is a shame because there's no disputing the quality of K.D. Lang's singing voice. I gave the Slits five stars a couple of days ago so for all the people who gave cut 1 or 2 stars this might be what you're looking for.

Getting KD Lang the day after Black Sabbath is almost unfair. Sabbath brings an amazing force to their records. KD Lang is almost the exact opposite. This record has a very laid back feel. Sadly, it never really departs from that until the very end, and it ends up making this record pretty lackluster in my eyes. Save Me saunters along, almost in a very slow southern type of way. A pretty basic chorus, but there is something about this song that crawls along with just enough interesting aspects to keep me engaged. A decent start. Unfortunately, she follows this up with a series of very sleepy songs that barely hold my interest. At least until Season of the Hollow Soul, which has some nice layers to it. Frankly, this had a similar feel of the types of songs that Sting was writing around the same time (the cello helps, the la la las do not). Of course, it's then back to more laid back songs . . . Until the closer, of course. Constant Craving is, by far, her best known song and for good reason. This is a very well constructed song which shows off KD's voice really well. But this was about it for selections that are memorable. The rest of the time KD's vocals are backed by a bunch of lackluster songs that have a bit of character, but not nearly enough to hold anyone's attention.

++: The Mind of Love, Miss Chatelaine, Wash Me Clean, Still Thrives This Love +: So It Shall Be +-: Save Me, Season of Hollow Soul, Outside Myself -: Tears of Love's Recall, Constant Craving 6,3/10

Do not like at all

4/10 Boring. Constant craving was ok I guess.

This is another one where the production is gonna drive me up the wall. All the sampled instruments on the opening track want me to yeet this record into oblivion. WOW YOU GOT A CASIO KEYBOARD, NOW YOU'RE THE BEST!!! Use that pitch wheel! Thankfully they seem to ditch that shit after the first track, but man, what a way to make a bad first impression. The vocal performance is fine, but the lyrics and presentation come across as really sappy, and overly dramatic. "Where is her head?" Maybe try looking above the shoulders? This isn't hard. Kiss/this smile/while? The easy rhymes would be more tolerable if you didn't pick the simplest/laziest one to repeat a million times. The longer the album goes, the more I realize it's just the same vocal 'melody' over and over again. Maybe in a different key. You don't even need to read or process music to get it--every vocal line is just -_-¯- Every. Single. One. Sorry if I ruined it for you. Oh, and now they've brought in the synth bass from Seinfeld! Classic. Is it over yet? New favorite lyric "like blood to chocolate fall," because it's that hard to rhyme with "recall." Nothing rhymes with recall at all. I'm hitting a wall. All I can do is stall. If I could play, I would've balled. 1.6, decent voice, and it seems like you kinda tried to do whatever you're doing. I know we'll get worse than this.

She has a good voice and the production is crisp, but this was boring as hell and not my thing. Couldn't get into it.

I was looking forward to this one, but I actually did not enjoy it. lang's voice is lovely, and the early-90s production was spot on, but the songs were largely bland and boring. "Constant Craving", the only song I'd ever heard before, was a standout track, containing an energy not present elsewhere on the album. Very disappointing. Standout track: Constant Craving

Some nice twangy touches and soaring lapsteels parts dress up a slow set of songs. Some samba, some accordion, some noir, some warm relaxing moments, some schmaltzy annoying bits. Favorite: save me

She has a good voice but the music itself is perfectly bland and forgettable.

Good for what it is. Not my cup of tea. I listened to some Slayer instead.

Standouts Constant Craving

Not for me.

Nice & easy listen, unremarkable imo.

This left me cold. Beautiful, soulful voice. But not something I feel inspired for a second listen.

Very bland. I debated one star, but it's not offensive, just boring

Dosadnooo.

Sin más. Constant craving muy buena.

I’m sorry to say it but this felt like background music in a CVS. Pretty boring to me.

Not my thing, but I wasn't offended by it. 'Constant Craving' is a banger and shows her talent. The album was pleasant for a car ride to work.

Easy listen but still a two. But more like a 2.5.

1. zave - 1.5 2. love - 1.5 3. mizz - 1.5 4. clean - 2 5. be - 1.5 6. ztill - 2 7. zoul - 1.5 8. outzide - 1.5 9. tearz - 1.5 10. craving - 2

Fine soft pop with a couple of good tracks. Not my regular taste but that's the point of this.

The singing is very impressive and the instrumentals are also very good. The songs are unmemorable and a bit naff.

Is it a boring album? Sure. Is the most boring album on this list? No - but mainly because her debut album, Shadowland, also appears on here.

> looking for a new singer/songwriter > ask if vocals are haunting or breathy > they don’t understand > pull out illustrated diagram explaining what is haunting and what is breathy > they laugh and say “it’s a good album sir” > listen > it’s breathy

This seemed like a dead easy 1 star. First four songs were so unbelievably bland, it was boring me to tears. Then somehow in the middle of it all I had to pause and appreciate So It Shall Be and Still Thrives This Love. Two tracks emerged from the desert that caught my attention, had some lovely passages of melody and really interesting instrumental fills. Uh oh. Have I been too hasty? Is k.d. lang secretly incredible? I should give this album a proper chance at redemption. OK, did that and never mind, I guess sometimes really boring albums just have a couple of great songs on them.

Vocally, KD is undeniably great, but no songs excited me or put me in a mood worth remembering.

This is pretty bland stuff. Can’t I’m going to have a “constant craving” for any of these songs.

I don't dislike this but what is there really to it? Don't really have any opinions about it at all. It's nice...but definitely not a 1001 albums you need to listen to before you die.

I only enjoyed one song- constant craving ⭐️⭐️

She has such a great voice, but I don't like her music. The song titles and lyrics are so pretentious and the melodies are boring. Still, great voice.

Removed from the context of its release, Ingénue is kind of a weird collection if your entry point is “Constant Craving.” Had this lounge-y style had been tilted just a bit more in the kitsch direction, I could see it being a David Lynch co-production, but it retains a sincerity and conventional aim that keeps it from being that kind of interesting. But lang’s a Canadian through and through and my current countrymen aren’t big on irony. Speaking of, she’s a real deal national hero here treasured maybe as the Celine of the Prairies. The hit still hits, but what’s up with the accordion? Is it a signal to a kind of French pop or continental ennui to match the melody’s melancholy? Was it kicking around western Canada and the Pacific NW in general in the late 1980s (thinking of the Northern Exposure theme). The basics of “Constant Craving” carry on elsewhere, sometimes blatantly: once by a fellow Canuck with Sarah McLachlan’s superlative “Sweet Surender” which captures the general vibe, Somerville’s Guster’s “Satellite” (with a more Mac arrangement), and then the wholesale (supposedly unintentional, no really, honest, it was just a mistake!) theft by the Stones, which they willfully credited to lang and her songwriting partner Ben Mink before getting sued. But I can see why, it’s a pitch perfect tune, matching lyrical sentiment and melody, with a vocal performance that ties it all up. The rest of the album...is made really well?

Il having listened to both K D Lang albums here I find myself with nothing more to say.

It was OK. 2/5

Second KD Lang on this list, probably one too many, and I feel exactly the same. Immaculately sung, played and arranged. Leaves me completely cold. 2.5 but as nothing going on for me, it's a 2.

I enjoy her voice but I found this album to be kind of boring. This felt very similar to the last album I had from k.d. lang, except she was new to me last time and I found it more interesting. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood. Overall I don’t think it’s really my thing anyway, so a 2 it is.

This album shows flashes of adventurousness, but for the most part plays it safe. Most of the songs (such as "Save Me", "Outside Myself" and even lead single "Constant Craving") take very few risks and come across and tame and predictable. There a few exceptions: "Season Of Hollow Soul" is a bright spot, in which lang's voice is more expressive than on the other tracks and the songwriting is more dramatic. "Miss Chatelaine" and "So It Shall Be" are also a cut above the rest. On the whole, lang's voice is *technically* good, but her style takes a cautious middle path - it lacks any kind of much-needed grit on one hand, and on the other hand it is so stylistically limited that it sounds generic at times. (At least she sings the songs straight and doesn't overdo it.) The arrangements on this album are tasteful but rarely get interesting. It's well-played by talented musicians but along the way there are the occasional sparks that demonstrate that it could have been so much more.

Quite literally listening to paint dry

Just ok for me

Sounds bland and canned.

I‘m not entirely sure what’s considered to be so special about this album that it would be included in the list. What am I missing? It is a nice pop record about love. But it sounds generic to me. Like I’ve heard this sound 100 times before. Maybe this speaks to its influence but I really don’t know. It was nice but nothing I would choose to listen to again.

I always hated Constant Craving. This was more of the same. I’m going to be generous and give it a 2 though because she does have a nice voice.

I really hated most of this... Plus she looks like Frank Lampard . The last song just about managed to pop this up to a 2*

seemed this was in here for Constant Craving, which does not justify it's placement in the list. largely passed me by because I largely zoned out listening to it

o.k. meh

Yay another country album.. Admittedly this is very different from the George Jones album that I received yesterday, but I enjoyed it about the same as I did that album. *Favorite track: Season of Hollow Soul 2.5/5

I enjoy her voice very much but the rest is just kind of corny 90s

Season of Hollow Soul //

Constant Craving

Remove the word "covers" from my first review and that just about sums this up. I feel like she has a decent voice and the sounds here are decent. But I still find myself pretty bored. Only song that grabbed my interest at all was Still Thrives This Love. So for that I'm getting 2 / 5 excitment.

Second k.d. Lang album we've had. Doesn't look as much like lesbian John Cusack on this cover. Meh, maybe a bit better than the last one, but not by much.

80er johr progressive country?? no schön, sie macht slide gitarre und singt huere warm. the mind of love seehr cooli melodie, ich weiss nonig ob die sosse vo 80er produktion hilft für ihri songs. scho hübsch aber naaaja. oke de song isch schön. chörli schön. miss chatelaine chli sehr schmusig crooner mässig, aso cute aber naja sehr schmalzig. hui bi halbe am ischlofe wnl ich bin mega für meh female artists uf dere liste aber das isch mer gad chli zu inoffensive und weich und aaah. so shall it be isch no cool mitem bass wo duuuw duuuw macht. und macht nocher intressanti sache. still thrives this love macht en italie orientalism i think mit de mandoline??? fühli au abgseh vo dem nöd so. he finds fr fr reeeeecht langwilig wnl. sie singt schön d songs sind schön d produktion isch okaay aber es ischmer würkli zu seicht und lahm. sorr. 2.

A couple of tracks were good. Not going out of my way to listen again.

The fact that there is even a single country album on this list is an abomination. the extra star is for kd lang being a fellow canadian

I think "Constant Craving" is the only k.d. lang song I'd heard before listening to this and I gotta say, it's the only real standout on this album. It's easy listening, lang has a lovely voice, but all the tunes go in one ear and out the other. Her general vibe is too cool for her music to sound this bland.

Those damn Canadians thinking they can ruin the entire world of music

I found it very boring and not to my taste at all

Just lacks much interest or anything to grab me

Fine. Didn’t know much about early U2, and this wasn’t fully expected

I wasn't familiar with k.d. lang. She seems to be a talented vocalist, but I found the slate of songs on this album to be really dull.

Insufferably boring Best Song: Season of Hollow Soul Rating: 3/10 2 Stars

Thoughts before listening: I remember KD Lang being a big deal, but it always seemed like very adult contemporary music to me. Soft rock ballads and VH1-only music videos is what this makes me think about. Review: So not really soft rock I guess, more soft jazzy country crooning. k.d. has a really nice voice, but this is pretty boring. "Constant Craving" is a good song, but this is otherwise really dull. 2-stars

Growing up my dad used to listen to prog rock all the time. I was never a fan of being forced to listen to genesis in the car as a youth but looking back now, and listening to this, I realise that if I grew up being forced to listen K.D. lang I probably would have turned to hard drugs.

niet mijn ding.... traag en vervelend

Old school lounge music. She’s got a very rich tone. I just have little interest in this style of music.

She has a really unique voice that is really pleasing to listen to. I just never was able to get invested in the songs themselves as it’s really not my kind of music. While I can appreciate the voice, the songs itself weren’t for me and I wouldn’t listen to them again.

This album is hard for me. The singing is excellent, the production is crystal clean and inspired, the instrumentation is creative. But despite all these things I just love this album. It’s too slow for me which is more an indictment of myself than the album. I liked the last song on the album and also the first song. But ultimately I just wasn’t a huge fan of the album as a whole.

Not my kind of thing but nice enough

Not for me.

It sounded like Mexican music sung by a white woman

Not for me. Nice voice, but I found it incredibly boring and just couldn't wait for it to be over.

One too many adult contemporary albums this week. I was pretty much checked out the entire runtime here. Lang’s voice is solid, but the songwriting is about as milktoast as it gets.

My irrational grudge against k.d. lang stems purely from her association with my least favorite Bond movie (Brosnan's masterclass in banality: Tomorrow Never Dies), and the adult contemporary slog that is Ingénue does not help her case.

The problem I had with this album is that Miss Chatelaine and Constant Craving were so overplayed at one point, that I still dislike them. I likely will have Constant Craving stuck in my head for awhile. I think k.d. is a great singer, I think she had some great musicians on board. I still didn't enjoy it though, but I do recognize that's on me and my tastes, and not that it's objectively not a good listen.

I actually liked this album more than I thought I would after listening to the first song. Once I heard that country twang, I kind of rolled my eyes a bit thinking "Oh boy, buckle up", but there's some good tunes in here. Miss Chatelaine and Constant Craving were great! Still Thrives This Love's guitar intro is also cool, but then it fades away. The vibe of the song is cool though. I can see someone performing some interpretive dance to this song and really bringing out the emotion from the song. The rest of the album... meh. I did notice that a lot of the songs started off weak, but the more it played and as the song unfolded, it became decent. It's a 2/5, but a strong 2

More like Nothingnue, amirite?

This had a bit of a throwback vibe, a nostalgic element, that I found captivating. That said, it didn't offer enough variation or energy to keep me interested over the full play.

Production and musicianship is good and I know she's a good songwriter, but this ain't for me.

I definitely know of this artist. I know a few tracks, not quite sure if they are off this album. I mostly know the tracks off the radio. Not my type of music. Definitely respect their music.

I've heard kd lang sing some amazing songs however none of them were on this album.

Great voice, boring material.

Not my thing and a bit tedious (2.5/5)

Bore off

This was fine. I liked the first few tracks but the rest of this didn't resonate.

Boring except for Constant Craving.

She has a good voice but this was too low energy for my taste.

Chill lady rock, fitting for a weird club where everyone drinks quietly and doesn't look at the band

Do you like calm music? Then this album is for you. save you is pretty good the lyrics are great. The beat is good and the artist has a great voice. The other songs are decent it just they kinda sound the same. But I would recommend this album if you were tryna relax or sleep.

1st song- its ok but I don't like it how they were saying it and its ok next they can do it better 2nd song- oh its really nice but it need to be better next time because it don't make any sense 3rd song-i mean its ok but it sound so weird and they can way better but its fine

Do you like slow music? If so, this album is for you! K.D. Lang is an excellent slow music artist, however, I'm not fond of it (her music). One reason is that I don't like slow music. Another reason is that I feel like I'm going to fall asleep listening to her music. I only recommend you listen to her music if you like slow music. If you don't, I recommend you don't listen to her music.

This must be the kind of music English majors listen to. Inscrutable poetry set to nondescript acoustic music with some jazz or symphonic bits to sound more posh.

Her voice is great but it didn’t connect with me

Good album, but have to be in the right mood to listen to the full thing.

Not a huge fan of this album, but Constant Craving is a pretty good song.

I expected to like it more, but it just didn't grab me.

Dont got me going. Pretty solid but not outstanding. Few Songs that i liked. 1.5/5.0

too naive for me

Music for old lesbians. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s not for me.

it was okay but i found it pretty uninteresting, it’s not my type of music id want to hear but it was okay

I rarely fall asleep to musical boredom.

I thought it was a dude... Had to replenish lost testosterone by watching gorillas fight

She has a good voice, but I was just bored my the songs

I can only assume Constant Craving is at the end to try to get people to sit through the rest of the album first.

שירים בסדר פשוט לא הטעם שלי 2/5

calming

Slow. Some ok interesting songs but not a must listen before ya die.

was okay. not my jam.

Want to know a sad reality of life? No matter how hard you try, there will always be things you can’t change. Especially when it comes to music. Forcing yourself to listen to something, and trying to convince yourself you actually enjoy it is not a good idea. I had this outlook towards Swans for a while, but I’ve warmed up to them since. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about this album. And that hurts me. Because when you lay it all out, I should have loved this. Knowing my history with similar sounding music, this should have been a shoo-in for me. I’m often a big fan of these alt-country jazz inspired easy listening records. But this album does nothing to maintain my interest. Or really compete with any of the other albums in that genre that I love. To put it simply, this album is boring. It’s harsh, but the only way I can properly describe where this goes wrong. There is one obvious positive that even I can’t ignore. I’m not sure who this women is. But I can admit that her voice is pretty amazing. Easily the best aspect of this album by a mile. And music that is more vocal based is fine. And that sort of applies to this. But there is also definitely a focus on the more arranged instrumentals. And when the vocals are great, but everything else consistently isn’t, I lose interest quickly. I wish I had more positive things to say. It feels like I should, and this had the potential to be better, but really isn’t anything special. Rating: 4/10

Not really my thing

Beautiful voice, but was slow paced for me

concerning

I liked the first song

Welp, This was better than Shadowland! 1.5/5

I tried very hard to like this album, but nope. Outside of Constant Craving which seems out of place on the record, the record’s slick and very dated production did not hold up. I much prefer the country-tinged sound of Lang rather than this pseudo cabaret style. Even her smooth and silky voice couldn’t save it. Felt like I was listening to the Lawrence Welk show or some made-for-TV special.

The open line was very apropo as I felt like I needed to be rescued from listening to this. Snooooooze fest. I’ll be generous at a 2 bc she does have a nice voice and good musicianship.

KD Lang’s music is the most adult-alternative music that has ever adult-alternatived. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, just kind of meh bordering on cringey. Sounds like music you’d hear on a seniors-only Caribbean cruise. I’d say my craving to listen to something else was…constant. 2.5/5

Boring as fuck

One review says “But just imagine having a relaxing evening in your renovated villa, pulling up a kitchen stool, pouring a glass of pinot gris and enjoying the heck out of this classy album.” I can’t relate to this at all. Man this album just doesn’t have anything that jumps out to me. It just sounds like one continuous song

Of the very few solo female vocalists on this list, THIS one made it? The fuq

It’s loungey. But it didn’t do much for me

4.5/10

She has a great voice, and Constant Craving is a classic. But I really didn't care for this album as a whole.

joa ganz nett, mir aber zu träge/zu schwülstig

Oof. The only thing saving this from being 1* was her great performance of “Hallelujah” at the closing ceremony of the 2010 Olympics. It bought her a lot of slack in my mind.

😴😴😴 2/5

4 / 10 Buena voz, buena instrumentación, pero tremendamente aburrida. Música para dormir elefantes.

Girl power!

Like the other k.d. lang album we got a couple hundred albums ago, I listened to this and simply don't know why I'm supposed to care about it. While not country anymore and rather trying to go for a deep and velvety pop experience, it's still utterly uninteresting.

Not bad singing skill but the whole album feels a bit bland or generic. If you told me these were all covers I may believe you. I wish I had liked this more. Maybe it was the day.

there's some mystery in it, overall a bit boring...

This album was fairly enjoyable but a bit boring. It gave a sort of musical theatre feel, but without a story. Don’t have a whole lot to say about it.

Pretty boring. Talented singer, but the compositions weren’t super compelling. I appreciate that it ended with what I feel is the strongest song in “Constant Craving” but by the time we got there I was just ready for the album to be over.

I've heard of K.D. Lang before, but I don't think I've ever listened to any of her music before. Overall, I thought this album wasn't that great. K.D. is a really good vocalist, but good vocals just weren't enough to make this album interesting for me. I enjoyed "Miss Chatelaine" and "Still Thrives This Town" because they had some great arrangements, and they really stood out from the rest of the album. However, "Constant Craving" was far and away the best song on the album. Come to think of it, is this album solely on the list because of "Constant Craving?" I guess I can't be too mad about that. K.D. Lang is clearly a talented musician, but this album misses a lot more than it lands with me. There just aren't that many songs that have great arrangements to go along with Lang's great vocals.

Not horrible, but doesn't speak to me in the slightest. 2/5

Easy listening country music is really not my thing. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Constant Craving Date listened: 22/03/24

I try to avoid the "this isn't my thing...1star" attitude that I see a lot on this site. But after a run of Billie holiday, Kate Bush and now this... I'm about to throw in the towel

An adequate country-pop album, but nothing special.

A bit too much country western twang for me to really enjoy it but pretty good. High 2.

A truly wonderful voice, not sure if this is country, easy listening or world music. Glad I listened but not my thing

Didn’t connect with me, not a lot of standout moments.

Very impressive voice. Some creative usage of string instruments, and produced very clean. The lyrics are very poetic. Feels like a spotlit bar scene in an 80’s spy movie.

#141. Beautiful voice, boring as fuck music. Background noise out of ten. 2/5: meh

This one left me fairly neutral. There is no denying k.d. lang has a superb voice. It is rich, controlled and technically impressive throughout. The production is smooth and understated, leaning into a sophisticated pop and adult contemporary sound. That said, as a full album it feels a bit meh to me. The tempo and mood rarely shift enough to fully grab my attention, and a lot of the tracks blend together. It is pleasant, but not particularly memorable. Save Me is the standout and the one track that really rises above the rest. Beyond that, it is an album I can appreciate more than truly connect with. Favourite song: Save Me Least favourite: The overall album feels too safe and similar throughout Album artwork: A cool and stylish cover that suits the tone of the record

Starting to like this cabaret music. Starting to, not there yet.

This album comes across as country-inflected sophisti-pop for the grown up market. Not really to my taste, and I don't understand why it's considered one of the 1001 albums. Nice voice. 2/5

1. false, not genuine or unauthentic. Hyvä hetki tätä kuunnellessa kuitenkin.. 2000 steps a day..

Decent album

We recently had Lang and I very much disliked. I think her voice is too boring and tiring for me and just brings nothing. I’ve heard worse but i’ve heard much better too. I’m good with a song or two by her then don’t need more.

Ça va mais je réécouterai pas

Ce n'est pas trop ma tasse de thé, je n'accroche pas aux mélodies.

Kaj da ti velim k.d., lepo al dosadno.

I found this to be quite boring. The epitome of MOR music. I won’t be going back to it.

I grew up listening to this album. I didn't like it then and I still don't like it now. The only great song is Constant Craving. The rest of the album sounds like "adult light radio". It's standards, elevator music. Which is a shame, because Lang has a gorgeous voice. I hope she did more with it later in her career, but this doesn't inspire me to check out more.

Pretty bored by this one.

Lovely voice but the album was just a bit lackluster overall.

Nothing special to my taste

Great voice and all, but I never could get into her adult contemporary style of music. A lot of it reminds of waiting in a dr’s office 2.5

I'm not sure what to think about this record. Great voice, good arrangements. But I just don't really think this kind of contemporary pop is something I really enjoy. I had certainly heard k.d. lang before, and liked a few of the songs I have heard over the years but had never listened to a whole album. From this record, Constant Craving was obviously my favorite but I liked Season of Hollow Soul too. However, I'm not sure that I would seek out anything else from her just based on this record. It goes a little to far into country territory for my liking. Ultimately, I feel like is is a decent record but when it was over I wasn't left wanting more.

not my thing, decent music

I am only familiar with k.d. lang from being one of the more famous celebrity fans for the local Portland Trailblazers. Had no expectations for this record, and have obviously heard the last track "Constant Craving" before. It's not really for me, but obviously it's a decent record and I get why people love it. Good to have more context to her though.

Kinda boring

Fine, but not my style.

Not my Kind of music. In my opinion mostly shallow Music. Relaxing If you want to listen to Something just "by the way".

Enjoyed her voice. Track highlight: Miss Chatelaine (samba vibes). Back half of the album kind of dragged.

The aural equivalent of watching paint dry. Very Canadian: boring, soulless, inoffensive and bland. It doesn't warrant a 1-star review because it fades into the background so completely that I hardly noticed it. I would almost rather be annoyed by an album than bored into a coma by one, but not quite.

Listened Before? N Interesting cabaret-style music. Not really my thing. Kudos to her for earning a grammy though. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Miss Chatelaine

Svärmor älskade den här en gång i tiden. Jag tycker den är tråkig.

i didn’t mind this i guess and there was 2 songs i actively liked and thought were really good, but personally i’ll probably never listen to it again, even though i like having female artists recommended… she’s cool but just not enough for me personally.

Constant gravy is a good quality song and there no doubting her pipe work. However this album is mainly dull muzak.

Not terrible, just boring. Constant Craving is good though.

The guitar in Constant craving has some 80's tom petty vibes (that Jeff Lynne 12 string sound). But overall this album sounds like something I'd hear in the dentist office waiting room.

It was nice even though doesn't stand out. Took a nap at work while listening.

Constant Craving is amazing. The rest of this was painfully boring. I could barely through it. CC gives it a 2 otherwise it would have been 1

You have to respect the artistic choice to attempt to write the most boring album ever conceived. It's not a 1 because there's nothing overtly offensive in it but it was dishwater dull.

Great voice but this was monotonous

2/5. A cool fusion of jazz and country, pop and theater. Quiet songs of love and loss. Didn't hit me as hard as I thought it would. It's beautiful don't get me wrong, but I don't think I'm going out of my way to listen to this one again. Most songs are too slow without much change that it does kind of drag in places. The hits are great but other than that, an okay album at best.

You’d think I would like this more than I did but it’s all slow songs and the songs were kind of just meh.

was just not something i vibed with though some beautiful lines in there

Clearly, K.D. Lang is talented both as a vocalist and a songwriter. But this just wasn't my cup of lukewarm and flavorless tea.

Nothing special. Trivial melodies and trivial songs.

this sounds intense. congratulations i guess? or sorry that happened?

Good voice but boring songs

'Constant Graving' va ser un punt d'inflexió en la carrera de Lang i un dels temes més escoltats aquell llunyà 1992. L'artista canviava el country modernitzat dels seus primers discos per un so molt més contemporani i que, la veritat, li esqueia molt millor. Mai ha estat una artista que m'hagi cridat l'atenció, però el disc, sobretot la seva veu, és més que respectable

Not going to totally trash k d lang but this isn’t for me

It's pleasant enough, but boring.

"Constant Craving" is the real highlight of this album, as it is one of the few songs that is upbeat and seems to really shine. Not sure why K.D. Lang put it last on the album. "Outside Myself" is another good song. So that's my positivity. I am on a string of albums that I don't seem to appreciate sufficiently. So, why would this be an album I need to hear? What separates this from other country-rock tinged pop albums? I would argue nothing does, because this music isn't bad and is perfectly listenable. But Lang isn't doing anything necessarily that is different or better than others. If someone said, "Do you know of any country-rock tinged pop albums by an artist that I should listen to?" then I would not list this album. Heck, if someone asked me, "Do you know of any country-rock tinged pop albums by a lesbian artist/duo/group that I should listen to" then I'm not sure I would name this album as one that should be heard. What separates this, outside of "Constant Craving," that has not been done before and/or been done better? I would argue, not a hell of a lot. So this isn't a bad album, perhaps not noteworthy, which is the problem with it being on the list.

Best Song: Constant Craving. Love a good accordion. Best vocals on the album, too. Worst Song: Season of Hollow Soul. sounds like a local church's edgy gospel. Overall: Some pleasant cabaret instrumentals. Half the tracks sound like they could (with a bit of modification) serve as alternate-universe Bond songs. The other half are Bond's lullabies. Overall, too sleepy for me.

Not my thing

80% of these songs are about kissing. Not objectively bad, but it's just too adult contemporary for me. Best Song(s): N/A Listen Again: No

Nice album. Have heard like it before but just better.

Pliisu ja lälly. Kun levy loppu ja spottari alkoi toistamaan vastaavaa musaa niin taso nousi merkittävästi.

Slow and boring in a 90s smoky jazz way, but it does come together in "Constant Craving," which is somehow really great. Just listen to that song instead of the whole album.

One of about a billion female singer-songwriters from the 90s who all blur into the same singular beigeness. If this sort of music is your bag then sure, you do you, but it doesn't speak to me and there are loads of artists who did and do this better. It's not bad enough to get a 1/5 but it's sinfully boring.

Never really got on with this. Blended into the background very easily. not really much I can say that I don't like about it, there's nothing obviously wrong but there's nothing obviously right either. Not a patch on someone like Dusty Springfield who came before, or Norah Jones / Eva Cassidy who came after. 2/5.

Inte min typ av musik. Lite långsamt. Men hon var duktig

Inget jag var särskilt engagerad i. Inte dåligt men lite meh.

she did not like that :(
