Music has changed a lot since the 50s...
I'm not unfamiliar with music from this era, this is just uniquely annoying. I can't listen to Grey Goose with a straight face
Fuck rating albums. Just let me listen.
This was painful to get through
Charming, sweet music. This album does not belong on this list for any reason whatsoever: Elliott sings without emotion, his music is simple without being purposeful, he does not compose his own music. He is charming grandpa. Another terrible choice for this list when, once again, an incredible cadre of other folk singers (not to mention Actual Cowboys) exist.
This is like a bad version of Johny Cash. No thanks.
Can't be arsed to listen to more that few tracks off this one. I really do not like country nor folk music, I'm noticing it's starting to get on my nerves.
Nej tak
Just… WTF
I couldn't make it to the end, who enjoys this stuff?? 0/10
Well, what can I say? Original cuntry music, performed by an original cunt. I really don't want to be too scathing about this, but there really are no redeeming factors. 1
Surely only here to tick a box to say all genres have been included. Just terrible, with ‘Grey Goose’ being in the conversation for the worst track on any album in the 1,001 list. Quack quack 🪿
I'm sure this is an excellent example of this genre. The thing I loved the most about this was the song titles, 'The Boll Weevill' is inspired. As for the actual music, I can imagine this hasn't dated at all for some people and they think this is still relevent in this day and age. For me, it was a very painful 30 minutes.
No thank you
No. I don't like this.
Jesus this sucked so bad. Annoying voice, annoying lyrics, annoying guitar. Did I mention how annoying it was? The answer is very!
Woody Guthrie with no bite. Talented but heartless for me.
I gave this album an over/under at 3 songs for how far I would make it through. I guess you could argue it's either under or push. I made it to song 3, but stopped halfway. I couldn't stand this at all.
The worst kind of country - for me.
Not my thing at all Shite genre and not an album that stands out. Biggest positive is that it is short. But as I say that, I kept thinking it was over and it keep fucking going Tune your fucking guitar I will never ever listen to this trash again. I see reviews on here with people complaining about 80s music. Aye okay, listen to this shite instead Woeful 0/5
I don’t know what to do with this
This feels like music that’s from a museum exhibit that you have to listen to using those big puffy headphones
Well, he does ramble
Honestly not sure if I even listened to the right thing since all I found was a playlist by this name...but I HATE this style of song where it's just talking to music. But I guess I see why he goes by Ramblin' Jack
LAWD LAWD LAWD WTF WAS THAT
Certainly lives up to his name
Get Fucked Jack
Well, he definitely rambles. This is a country album, although the haters will try to call it “American Folk” - call it what you like, it’s country. At first, I was going to be generous and say my dislike of this album was only down to a personal taste thing but you know what? No. Country music sucks. Why was bro screaming at me at times? Calm down, you’re only singing about a field. Yodelling at no one, just chill out, man. I still prefer this to modern country music but still, it’s country. Oh, don’t cross me because I have a gun. Oh, my baby is coming home or I’m coming home to my baby but I’m going to shoot her with my gun because she was being a whore and flashing her ankles at other men. I’m going out hunting with my gun. That’s what this album sounds like to me. And then the casual racism came in towards the end; no. This album sounds like the soundtrack of a bad movie. At one point, he just starts having a conversation with someone? It ain’t for me, man.
Not my vibe!
Jack does ramble doesn’t he!? All got a bit too much for me, and found it all a little predictable if I’m honest.
Not my style, bad recording, forgot about it mostly. Will I listen to again: 0%
Not for me, but listened to the full album
With all due respect to the artist and without wanting to sound "countryphobic", "Jack Takes The Floor" is a bad album. Maybe because of his southern accent, I couldn't understand anything he sang or said, so the message and purpose of the album were lost in the middle of the album's 31 minutes. Maybe this type of music is not for me, and in any case, I wouldn't listen to it again.
Yee-haw? Not even close to good enough for this list.
Nope
Jack takes the piss! You can't be having the blues on three separate occasions on one album. Not even the Blues Brother did that, in fact they had a proper knees up!
Fascinating how with just vocals and guitar he can inflict so much pain
I don't get Folk/Country singers' fixation with calling their songs "lullabies" but this album sure made me want to fall asleep
"i really need to include a 24th 50s album on this list but i only have $10 to spend on a record! If only the local thrift shop had an old album that no one wants!" -list author
Not for me
I got David Gray today, and with the server maintenance I seem to now have gotten this. Not the fault of Jack Elliott but I have subtracted a star nonetheless
Have I lost it or has the list. How am I getting this at album 1025
Shite.
Wow an album from 66 years ago, this list isn't very current is it? Interesting to listen to but not really adding a lot to my musical experience to be frank. You can here a slight hint of the blues in there with the hokey cowboy sound though.
This will be a short review today (as will the following few) as I’m sleepy after a 17 hour flight. I didn’t like this album. I don’t particularly like the genre, and this sounded too amateurish and messy for my liking. This just really isn’t for me.
50's country. Nothing remarkable. Well, actually, you've got the thickest accent ever and your guitar is out of tune bro.
Boring guitar & voices
Unavailable in US.
Apple Music didn’t have this album. Looked up the song list and found a bunch of them one off. Not for me.
“Y’all (don’t bother to) come back now, y’hear?”
I'm pretty sure I could've recorded this album and sounded better.
Yawn.
Cool to listen to an old recording, but damn, I could hardly stand to listen to it… 🫣
It sounds very amateurish. It's very old. May have been good when it was new, but people shouldn't listen to this anymore.
Boy howdy, this was an album for sure. Definitely too country and raw old school for my taste. It reminds of Bob Dylan, with a real country twang…and I’m no Dylan fan! But I’m sure Elliott has an audience, and I wish I could have found myself as being a part of it. It makes me think of spending time at Knott’s Berry Farm in their Ghost Town, riding the Ghostrider and then getting some boysenberry-infused treats. What a great thought this is… But this brief daydream doesn’t make this album any better. I’m hoping I’m one of the minority who didn't enjoy listening to the record, as the fella does sound mighty kind. Maybe it will do you more good than it did for me!
Every song starts off with and introduction like This Song was first done in Texas in 1923 or something to that ilk. To that I say this album is annoying and grating. A painful lesson. Please generator, give me something good.
He can have the whole building, provided he doesn't inflict any more of this leech on me.
A little stretched on the singing for a folk song singer.. felt like I was listening more to his voice stretch than the story behind each song.
Old, too old the album.
pretty archaic, I really did not enjoy it at all…
I'm sure it was a milestone album at its time, but it sounds dull to me.
is he drunk?
Ramblin' is right
I quit at "Dink's Song", which on Spotify is a woman singing?? Something felt off, like he's trying too hard, and decided I'd give the album a 1. Then I read the Wiki bio. Makes sense now.
Terrible. Sorry Jack Elliott. Boring tedious and dull. I would give it nil pois if I could so, reluctantly it gets one 🫣
Ok
Very much Woody Guthrie. Kinda goofy but hard to listen to for a long period of time
At least this honky tonk yodel-fest was only 30 min long.
Gefällt mir nicht.
This is Wayne too much country for me.
Sounds ok
If you release a shit experimental album, I can hate it but still appreciate what you were trying to accomplish. If you like Ramblin’ Jack Elliot just release an all round boring album with boring stories and unoriginal guitar playing? Well, then you’re doing nothing but wasting my time.
Not on Apple Music auto 0 sounds like it would’ve been a nice pickin time too bad
Nicht Meins
Rambling indeed. Quite bad early recorded country. Doesn't even sound sure of his own voice.
Rambling’ is the right word. 1950’s country / folk is not for me.
Folky country accoustic music. Did not enjoy much.
accoustic country music - not a big fan.
He's so C&W it hurts.... Its another one of those HTF did it get on the list, it's awful. The only good bits were when he's talking in between the songs and because he's shit at that as well, its funny. Particularly when he introduces his mate to sing one of the songs with him. He must be deaf because he shouts his replies...its hilarious. But to sum up, Jack, you can take your floor, your guitar, your harmonica and your weird friends and fuck off ! Its a 1.
was kind of enjoying the folksy rambling but even before the end of the first song I was bored and hoping he upped the tempo even a little. As a listen now it's a massive turn off. 1.4
This felt like I was intruding on some random strumming his guitar in his bedroom. Ramblin' is indeed the right adjective to describe the racket. I'm not sure why this nonsense is on the 1,0001 albums list. I listened to some Michelle Shocked instead.
👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
So goddamn boring. Hes like Bob Dylan if he was not as talented, was very annoying and didnt have stories as cool as him.
Just too old
Oof two country albums in a row...
Too much country
This might have been something sometime, but now it's just bantha fodder.
And it’s a “No” from me !
Not available
Cool so for anyone in the world, you must listen to an album that was only released in the UK where the list was made. Very inclusive. This one isn’t on Apple Music so didn’t listen.
no.
man with guitar and some singing - i prefer this over frank sinitra, but it is still very average compared to other 50s music. my predicted score in 1958: 1 my real score in 2023: 1.
The human version of Uncle Pecos, Jerry's country music singing uncle from the Tom and Jerry cartoon 'Pecos Pest'. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if Ramblin' Jack Elliott was the inspiration behind Uncle Pecos. Several tracks on the album are reminiscent of 'Froggy went a-courtin' and one song even has a yodel part that's a little to high for him. Whilst it's tempting to give this a pass as a museum piece, songs about the types of insects that annoy Elliott most don't really resonate in 2023, and the pre-song chat that precedes many of the tracks just seems like a parody today. Rating: 1.5/5 Playlist track: Salty Dog Date listened: 06/07/23
Not for me.
This didn't work for me.
One of the most boring albums you will ever hear
not for me
bof
shit
Ugh
Folk is just so painfully bad to listen to
Awful Terrible voice, whiney songs, nothing at all good to say about this album
Horrible. How or why this is on this list is beyond me
What a painful experience
'Cocaine all around the brain'!
Dogshit on toast
Yea, this was just too annoying for me. Hoping this is the last time we see Jack take the floor. Tough one to make all the way through. 0 for me.
Not a high point
Not for me.
Balls
Nope.
Jack Elliott. I don't know how this is among the 1001 best albums, I doubt it was even particularly significant in 1958. It's very plain country music at best.
Started tedious, and got worse. I did laugh when he did an intro spiel about how people often seek solace in sleep, but that it sometimes made it worse, before launching into a song about bed bugs :D then we have what sounds like a hostage situation with Woody Guthrie to start track 5. Now he's quacking at the end of track 6 (which is about geese, who don't quack. They hiss or honk). Next track wasn't offensive until he started yodelling midway through. Back to inoffensive but interesting for the next couple, then whiny, and then a song that is better than the others but still not good. He just really can't sing very well. 1/5, but only because I can't give a 0. Probably the worst thing we've had so far, but at least he had the good manners to stop after half an hour.
A pretty underwhelming album. A consistent album of short country songs in pretty poor quality. I know the album is old but country music then really was pretty dull. 2.7/10
well this was an album! it had a great sense of authenticity and i liked how unrefined it was. however, it is definitely from 1958 and i don't think i liked it. i could not believe i listened to a song about bed bugs. whoever sang dink's song has the loveliest voice, but i don't think it was mr. elliott.
Very basic
This folk album is from Ramblin' Jack Elliott and was released in 1958. It's so old that there is little information on it. The music is alright if you enjoy a single, folksy singer songwriter. I thought this album was forgettable.
mehhhhhh
Im trying to take it for what it is. The point of doing this for all genres is to give it a chance. Its old country blues with a single guy singing and playing guitar. topics include whatever and i mean whatever. a song about bed bugs… still better than the twang but wont relisten … 1 to 2
Not into it
I did not care for this album and I do not care for country music.
Ramblin' is an understatement for the verbal vomit that happens on this album. Every time it would start to pull me in, a monologue, lyrical repetition, or a yodel pulled me back out again.
Du blues très chiant
1950's American folk won't stand a chance on my player.
Bad cowboy music
Ugh... This album is from 2015 so the old timey sound is on purpose and I really don't like it It's so fake I really don't like this. Like this guy wants to be a redneck so badly and I hate it. I feel like this guy probably recorded this with a piece of wheat hanging out his mouth. Uggggghhhh Nothing about this interests me, the music is dull and repetitive and the vocals are so fake and put on. Okay so I've skimmed this album and skipped ahead in some of these songs and there is nothing for me in this. I'm not finishing this one Faves - HAHA No songs saved or added to playlists Overall - nahhhhh Rating - 1/5
