Just classic!
We loved this album. She was so influential
Hey so turns out Dusty Springfield might be the greatest artist of all time, who knew?
Dusty is the Queen Bee, the blackest-sounding white soul woman there was, whose voice is so honeyed she can take any song and make it her own, forever Dusty. I could listen to her albums on repeat all day, and the only reason I don’t is that I have to sleep sometime. I love Dusty Springfield and I invite you to join my cult.
bellissimo
What a magnificent album! "Once Upon a Time", "He's Got Something", "Mockingbird", "My Colouring Book", "Do Re Mi" and "Mama Said" are all amazing.
Truly a remarkable voice.
Great album. Wide range. Lots of energy. No skips.
I had no idea Dusty was the singer for so many of the classics I was familiar with.
Iconic, loved!
Wow 1964... Stimme. Lyrics. Musik. Einfach runde Sache. Liebs.
Tolle Stimme, abwechslungsreiche Reise. Perfekter 60s Vibe.
absolutely wonderful. I just love that sixties vibe, and this album is exactly what every period piece about the '60s tries to emulate. Mama Said alone is just the perfect time capsule. Her cover of You Don't Own Me is amazing, My Colouring Book is silly but powerful, and Twenty-Four Hours from Tulsa, while another cover, was my favorite by far. she just sounds so good. got bored with a few tracks but the impact and the vibe are an instant 4.5/5
such a complete album made by an incredible artist. she has been able to reach her public only by telling her story, without the use of complicated methaphors or else. i find this simpleness truly amazing, as it influenced so many other female signers of the time. her vocals and vocal range extention are extraordinary, she did such an amazing job. i love this album and all the songs so much. dusty gave us a way to show her true self in the most beautiful way possible
Brilliant record, my favourite so far. Once again I’ve heard most of these songs but not in this order, I wasn’t aware of how stacked with hits this is.
I didn’t appreciate what fabulous voice Dusty Springfield had until I tried singing her songs myself. They sound simple but her voice is so strong and perfectly on pitch, it’s really hard to match her standards. Plus the songs are great. Can’t go wrong with this album
Cool 60s
So much of this is my childhood listening to oldies radio. Mama Said and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow bring me back to sitting in the backseat of my parents car while running errands. Not something I'd put on regularly but it has a definite place in music history. Dusty had an incredible voice
An Album Called a Classic
youuuu don't own meee
100%
Went from Joni to Dusty and (sorry Joni) for me Dusty wins by a long way
🎶💕
Love it
Rating: 4.7/5 Short Review: Soul wrapped in satin — heartbreak with impeccable posture. Favorite Track: “I Only Want to Be With You” — it’s not just love; it’s obsession disguised as charm.
Great album. I have long been a fan of Dusty Springfield and this album showcased a lot of her vocal talent. I liked the diversity of songs and different types of music.
I mostly know Dusty's hits, and they are wonderful. Most of the songs aren't quite as good here, although I really like Anyone Who Had a Heart (Bacharach/David; no surprise it's good). But as a debut it's fantastic, and I love her voice so much it carries through even the weaker songs. Rounding up from 4.5
Love the era. Love her voice. She could sing the phonebook and I would listen to it.
Before crucifing the crooner here due to the selection of covers in this album i might defend her by noticing two-three things.Firstly how brave and empowering for women in the 60's must this album have been and probably still is as some of the originals sung by men were absolutely nailed by Dusty Springfield and shows up her voice range which is the second thing that impressed me here.Lastly few singers internationally can sing covers and the whole project is enjoyable to ears and without making constantly comparisons and in this album is exactly that case.Well,my opinion but i really enjoyed listening to this and i usually hate cover albums. 5/5
Love her voice
Reminded me of the good old days back in high school!
Good songs
Goddamn
I know it's an assortment of covers, but every song is a banger and she owned each one, and that's kinda more fun to listen to than a mixed bag of originals with a few standouts like a couple of the other 5-stars I've handed out...
Loved it!!

Learned a lot about Dusty Springfield from having this flagged to listen to: didn't know Dusty was a woman (didn't know what music the artist did), but was familiar with a lot of the songs and I love this vibe and genre. And Dusty is a beast vocalist. I also learned she wasn't black! Crazy.
YAY. Girl Music. Upbeat tunes out of a different time Listened before? In parts Saved tracks? Y Favorite Tracks? You Don't Own Me, My Colouring Book, Mockingbird, Anyone Who Had a Heart, Will you love me tomorrow? Wishin' and Hopin', I Only Wanna Be WIth You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it. Saved a bunch of tracks.
I had heard one track from this before but didn’t know the album. Glad I do know it now though. Wow, so good. ❤️
That was a surprising masterpiece. So many familiar songs on here. Made mandy listen to it. Will make k listen too
Wat een heerlijk album! Een soort Amy Winehouse uit de sixties! Met de absolute hits: 1 Mama said 2 You don't own me 4 When the lovelight 13 I only want to be with you De eerste 2 nummers zijn absolute hits!
Adoro
I had never heard of Dusty Springfield, but I recognized at least four of her songs from radio and movies. Her voice is so full and buttery, I can't imagine how hard it would be to sing all these songs back-to-back at a live performance. This was my first album of the 1001, great way to start the journey.
Surprisingly recognized a couple songs off this album. Very poppy, had a great mix of instruments and each song a distinctive feel. Reminds me of my grandparents because they most likely listened to this growing up. Makes good dance music
People wish they where half as good as this. Dust rules.
Bloody great music to cruise the coasts of Brittany! Lovely to hear the originals
Heavenly. Dusty definitely up there when it comes to artists I wish I had the chance to see.
Fantastic album! Loved it from beginning to end. 5/5
A fantastic debut just stuffed with great pop songs.
Amazing, so many great songs.
Classic hits everyone knows. Reminds me of my childhood
Epic. Great voice. 5 Stars
Me ha gustado mucho
LOVEDDDD I wish I’d never loved you
BANGER I'd like to own this on vinyl
This is a classic album with songs every one has heard with Dusty singing. Great album
Classic.
Nice soul singer. Also appeared to have song the original mockingbird.
Can never go wrong with Dusty Springfield
Love Dusty… I’m more of a fan of Dusty In Memphis, but I always love listening to a new album!
Probably my bad but I listened to Pet Sounds right after.
Love Dusty with my whole heart
What a fool I am to have never listened to this before. Every song is exquisite, I can't ask for anything more. I've never felt so assaulted by music. Her voice slaps me in the face with emotion. Idk it does something to me, some sort of witchcraft and I'm into it.
Banger!
excellent album that really deserves its place on this list!
Not my favourite version of You Don't Own Me (Lesley Gore), but obviously still a banger. Speaking of bangers, several here, my favourite new song being Summer is Over. Just great stuff.
Just amazing
Really nice album, beautiful voice. I will listen again
Do you really want to listen to something like this? Like it! 5 stars
Classic after classic
lesbian excellence
This is just one banger after another. Even the ones that don't grab me immediately remind me of what I love about Burt Bachrach. (Update: it turns out that this is because they were actually written by Burt Bachrach.)
Really surprised me, so many good songs , one of my new favorite pop albums
Starting off with 'Mama Said' is a strong move. Following up with 'You Don't Own Me' gets a 5 star, with the rest of the album having a great sound and showcasing an amazing voice.
Sus mejores versiones de Bacharach no están aquí, son I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself y The Look of love.
This album is absolute tour de force. Hit after hit. This is great.
Pretty incredible debut, so many recognizable songs.
Not a fan of her kind of voice on anyone but her. And I love it on her. Dusty’s always been a fave ever since I heard her for the first time.
A debut album has no right to contain this many classics. Brilliant.
Packed with classics
another artist who I didn’t realize wrote so many of my favorite hits she’s like the female Bob Dylan
So underrated
Sixties pop perfection.
Solid golden oldies, blues and more
I really liked this! This was the first album I’ve saved a song off of.
Lots of great classic songs here.
how can you go wrong with a gay icon pop diva with the name of an old texas bluegrass guy? the answer is you can't. thank god for dusty springfield. without dusty there is no chappell. as a trans woman i'm contractually obligated to rate this a 5 and i have absolutely no problem with that. the only issue with this album is how much it must have sucked for her to put her whole ass into singing about loving men. 5/5 simple as
Second time Dusty has been offered up as part of this project and always a pleasure to listen to.
Beautiful album forms tart to finish. So many hit singles that were later covered by other artists.
Really good
This is just a fun album filled with nice 60s pop songs sung by someone who has a phenomenal voice. This album isn't particular groundbreaking in any way, but it's a perfect capsule of its time period. Plus Dusty Springfield has a fantastic voice that elevates every song she sings. I just love this album so much.
So good. Wonderful voice, evergreen melodies, wide range of sounds and emotions. So many good songs on this album.
Banger after banger, what a voice. Had no qualms about her before but didn’t think about how good this album could be
I've only listened to a couple of isolated songs by Dusty Springfield. Apparently I've been missing out - this is great! Pretty much every song is a triumph. Her voice is great, with just enough little rough edges to give her an expressive and authentic sound. The style ranges from classic pop to soul and R&B. I like the Motown influenced tracks and the darker ballads the best. The music, backing vocals and overall mix sound a little rougher than I expected. Wikipedia mentions that the master tapes were lost and the digital editions are a mix of vinyl transfers and patch-up jobs using outtakes. Not sure if that's what I'm hearing, but it would be cool to hear the original vinyl sometime. Anyway it's a great album, 5*.
One of the greats. Personal enjoyment: 5/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
Cute music, pretty vocals, and relaxing vibe.
Yes, iconic really.
Dusty is THAT girl
Duh. Dusty has an amazing voice and the arrangements are great.
What a voice! Great song selection by the producer, Johnny Franz. .The production is like taking a time machine back to 1964. You can smell the cigarettes and booze in this recording. A gem.
10000x better than bruce
14/01/25 I have never listened to Dusty before and this was a good album that I enjoyed.
Dusty Springfield if you are reading this I love you please call me
Man, that voice is something special. 4.5 bumped up to 5.
I’m at a 5. This is the second time we’ve gotten a Dusty Springfield album – after “Dusty in Memphis”, I thought of her as more of a rock girl, with a little bit of soul influence. Going into this one, I was sort of expecting more of the same, even with a decade gap. Obviously, I was a bit wrong – this is much more doo-wop / R&B oriented than “Dusty in Memphis” was, and it’s a style that I honestly think worked better here, at least for my tastes. Once again, it should be quickly noted to say “give black artists their due”, as this is an album entirely comprised of covers. It’s not all from black artists, but a good chunk of it is. The parts that aren’t lean a little closer to that fabled “Great American Songbook” style, which I think works really well with her vocals. If anything, my biggest compliment I can give to this album is that despite this being a 60s album, so much of this, at least production-wise & in the structure of each track, feels pretty modern. Sure, not everyone nowadays is crooning R&B to grand bombastic orchestration, but the core of the album, in her vocals, the choruses & the melodies, feels like a blueprint for what would become the pop music of the 70s & 80s. Not all of that credit can go to Dusty, obviously, but her voice really opens up a lot of the tracks for me. The power in her vocals, which was already present on “Dusty in Memphis”, simply feels bigger here, in part because of the instrumentals, which do a much better job of working in conjunction with her as opposed to sort of stealing her shine like they did on “Dusty in Memphis”. That improved harmony is why I’m at a 5 – this album just glides to a really smooth 32 minutes, and while it’s not quite the same feeling as hearing Aretha Franklin absolutely belt out a track, there is something in the air when her voice & the instrumentation blend wonderfully, which happens enough times for me to feel like I'm justified in giving this a 5. It’s a fun album, and I don’t think there’s a single dud (well, maybe Mockingbird). It might hit a little less if I had heard most of the original versions of these tracks, but I think Dusty Springfield & the band performed them with pretty good justice. I think it’s no less than a 4 (or a 2, if you really hate cover albums being on the list), and for my tastes, I have no problems giving it a 5. I liked it a lot, what can I say?
classic
Dusty is a hit maker. So many defining 1960s hits. In high school, I was the stage manager of a play based told through basically Dusty’s repertoire. This album made me nostalgic for that time.
Never listened to Dusty Springfield much, but this was great! Certainly an album I plan on revisiting.
Loved it, so many bops. Mama Said is a fav.
So many bangers in here! Stuff of legends
just straight bangers, innit
Wow. Didn’t expect to love this as much as I did. The girl can flat out sing, and musically I found it refreshing. Great find!
Dusty is onece again artists that I have heard a lot, but mostly in some compilations or soundtracks. Anyway I have liked what I hear every time. It was a very pleasant experience to listen the whole album this time. So ten points.
An incredible voice. Great R&B with a mid sixties Motown feel. Amazing she was not more popular in the US.
Love her voice so much!
So many classics that I had no idea were from her. Great voice that she puts to use in multiple ways.
Very good album
Quintessential oldies jams.
Outstanding
Perfection
Utterly mesmerising.
Nice Soul/60 Pop Sound 9/10
Had never listened to this album before. Loved it!
It turns out I’m a real dingus. I went into this album thinking that Dusty Springfield was a country singer. I was wrong. She is an R&B would singer and a fantastic one at that. Prior to this, I’d have been at a loss if you asked me to name any tracks by Dusty, but when I listened to this album I found I was already very familiar with six of them. I think maybe when I was a kid, my mum might have played music like this at my birthdays because it’s (maybe) what she heard when she was a kid. Either way, this brought a lot of nostalgia. I love this album a lot and it will be in regular rotation from here on.
This is such a great album. Nice lyrics, nice music. Just a real classic
Great album, would be great for sampling for music production
Great album from a great singer
White girl’s got soul. You can’t not like this. 5/5 Highlights: Mama Said You Don’t Own Me My Colouring Book Every Day I Have to Cry Can I Get a Witness Summer Is Over
This was awesome. Gorgeous voice, songs by turn catchy and romantic. It really makes you want to sing along
I love Dusty. I had a massive Dusty period around the early 2000s.
I love this oldies sound. Oh! You Doin't Own Me is on this album. I like that one, man that was a whole other time the 60s. These songs are happy and all about love. So many hits on this album. Will you Love Me Tomorrow, Wishin and Hopin, I think I'll give this one 5 stars
Love her!
This album is filled with great old timey classics and it was a very fun and enjoyable listen.
A Girl called Dusty beweist auf diesem Album ihre Vielfalt, ihr Können und zeigt Stimme und Meinung. Sehr beeindruckend und melodisch. Mir gefällt das.
Love love love this, love Dusty. Iconic lesbian 🧡🤍🩷
A solid soul / Motown style album - always loved Dusty but never sat through a full record. This one is lovely - well balanced and beautifully sung - with the right feel and groove and sound. Loved it.
I thought Dusty was a country singer! This midmodern pop masterpeice is really beautifully done.
Unsurprisingly loved this as I have been a huge Dusty Springfield fan for a very long time. Didn't know this album but knew about half the tracks from various compilations. Rest was equally excellent. Dusty's version of Twenty-Four hours from Tulsa is now my new favorite version of that song (previously that had been the much slower Mari Wilson version).
Sultry
Love it!
This was a really fun throwback. Quintessential doo wop album
Very good, heard many songs before but didn't realise they were covers lol
Thought this was the strongest album i have heard yet - likely because I was not expecting it to be so good.
Classic although it’s crazy how shredded she will let her voice get compared to say son of a preacher man
So glad I got this album! I had previously gotten “Dusty in Memphis” and was kind of disappointed. This album she really seems to be at her best. And it totally helps to have a cadre of all-time great songwriters supplying the material. I think the compositions are so much better here, and she absolutely crushes these songs.
This shit is a 5 star for Mockingbird
Very very good
PopR&Bblue-eyed soul. You Don't Own Me.
Great album. Forgot what a talent she was.
Lol, mintha fallout t lenne
I did not know that she's British!
This album was awesome.
Fuck yeah, Dusty, sing it girl! She is the OG bad bitch of pop music and this debut is full of all-time great pop staples sung the Dusty way! The voice, the style, the ballin' take no prisoners attitude. I love her. She's a strong Aries woman, like me, so game recognize and respect game. We don't ever let men tell us what to do. It's a damn shame she lived in such a closed-minded closeted time, but she was a fighter and always true to herself. She was fierce and fabulous, the two things I love best in a pop diva. Icon!
Ah, the EARLY sixties. What was great music before the psychedelics temporarily took over? Strong women before Helen Reddy? Strong female singers thy name is Dusty. That voice. What can't it do. The range could have been a great crossover with an operatic mezzo voice. And how can you not fall in love with the vulnerability but strength of You Don't Own Me.Highly consistent repertoire, not a clunker in the bunch.
Felt good about this from the start. Really glad I listened to it and looking forward to listening to many of this again. Very much into Dusty's voice.
what. a. vocal.
incredible
yeah
Wow! Everyone says Dusty in Memphis is the record to own but damn this set jumped out of my speakers!
A classic, of course! It was interesting to get additional songs on the remastered (reissued?) album version that I eventually found via YouTube (the YouTube Music album link was broken), but I'm not sure whether the extra songs should count in this project (but nice to hear them nonetheless).
Hell yeah, Dusty's last album was awesome. Looking forward to this one. Fantastic voice and nice instrumentals throughout. Such an enjoyable, uplifting listen. Went into this hoping to match Dusty in Memphis, but this surpassed it (from what I remember). Lovelight Starts Shining is an absolute bop. Listened to this twice in a row as I couldn't decide if it deserved the bump from 4 to 5. I think Dusty deserves it.
Dusty Springfield - A Girl Named Dusty Dusty Springfield's debut album. I've listened to and own Dusty in Memphis but hadn't taken time to listen to this one, until today. She was a member of a few girl groups before she decided to go solo. In the really 60s, she was touring the US and was exposed to soul music, which would have a massive effect on her career. Released in 1964, this album is a mix of mostly pop songs and some Motown influenced numbers. In the usual manner, in regards to UK stars, this album was not released in the US. Instead they released a compilation of songs and titled it Stay Awhile/I Only Want to Be with You, named after her two hits. It was later released as Dusty (a second version) with a different track listing and different tracks. This is a good introduction to Dusty, and you do get glimpses of what's to come (Dusty in Memphis). 5/5
Wow, wow, wow!!!
Must have! And the Silver Collection album!
Excellent stuff
Very nice! Love it. Real music.
What a fun album. It's got pop, doowop, soul...Dusty sings from the heart. She walked so Amy Winehouse could run. That 60s Wrecking Crew and Phil Spector Wall of Sound in full force
This was actually pretty good! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the album. I was expecting way more country, this felt like some ‘50s rock and jazzy hits. Overall really good
PopR&Bblue-eyed soul. You Don't Own Me.
Very good, always liked several of these songs!
All covers, all good ones
I really liked this album--upbeat and enjoyable. I was surprised how many songs I knew from this album :)
i love Dusty Springfield!
Fantastic! Loved you vocals and the backing band is amazing.
Nice
Great
Fun! Recognizable. Funk influence?
Loved this album. Didn’t realize mockingbird from dumb & dumber was referencing Dusty! One of my all-time great audition songs is a Dusty Springfield song. Dusty was the Taylor swift of the 1960’s. The iconic “break up song” girl!
This is Dusty Springfield at her best, and listening to this I couldn't help but think that you don't get from Doris Day to Patty Smythe without Dusty to build the bridge.
Several great songs I didn't know she sang! Very bluesy and soulful.
Amazing album, didn't realize she was who she was. A very empowering voice & album!
Gwan the Irish!
I love this. Fun and sad and happy and sweet. Distinctive voice. Great classic songs with Dusty’s touch. Loved every minute.
PopR&Bblue-eyed soul. You Don't Own Me.
Classics, especially the songs written by Carole King. Joyful music
Gold. I thought I was heterosexual when I started this journey, but two Dusty Springfield albums and an Elton John later and the algorithm appears to have spoken. Another five star listen.

A very fun album that I was not expecting, so far my favorite. Ended up liking a lot of the songs that didn’t have over 20k streams. Nothing is a bop and I loved every second of it. Added 4 songs, skipped 0, and definitely will be back to check out more.
banger after banger after banger after banger
Holy cow so good
J'ai trouvé ca vraiment trpo bon, mais je m'y attendais j'aimais déjà beaucoup cette chanteuse 5
This album is brilliant. Every song is its own soundtrack. Fun songs, sad songs, serious songs, love songs. Brilliant vocals too. I can listen to this but also works as background music (if you want to feel like a positive Tarantino scene). Big fan.
Utterly glorious 'egg poaching on a Sunday morning' music
Wow! Excellent album. Half of these songs are classics. Dusty feels so unique in her voice and musicality.
Love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love
I liked this album it was fun and upbeat. Gave me the feeling i was sitting in an old diner somewhere in the south
A revelation.
another classicss
Absolutely loved this. Classic sixties pop and I just love the voice throughout. The production is just enough to carry everything, and this is a great set. Surprise here was the version of 24 Hours, one of my favourite songs. Not quite up there with Pitney's version, but great nonetheless. An amazing debut.
Takes me back to 4th Grade. I listened to all the girl singers then. This record is very fun to listen to.
Exceptional. No notes.
My type of music!
So I know some Dusty Springfield songs, from here and there, but never listened to a full album. I thoroughly enjoyed it - lots of character, strongly reminiscent of the era. Simple instrumentation allowing her voice to drive the songs. You Don't Owe Me has a great sinister vibe. Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa strongly reminds me of There's Always Something There To Remind Me. Very few fillers on the album. I had no idea she was English either. A solid 4.5, but I think I've been miserly recently, so I'll round up.
I was wowed!!
Such a soulful voice.. Loved it
Amazing record.
Love this album. Didn’t realize how many songs I knew by Dusty.
One of the GOATs
PopR&Bblue-eyed soul. You Don't Own Me.
Dusty is the best of the best - incomparable
Just a bunch of great songs performed well all in a row. Not the loftiest concept but still deserves a 5.
Fantastic
Sultry and soulful and just a touch raw, to keep it real, and the real deal this very much is: “My Coloring Book,” “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” and “Twenty-Four Hours to Tulsa" and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” are all excellent.
Ble Dusty Springfield-fan gjennom dette albumet. Herlig, rå, hvit soul med Dustys karakteristiske stemme. Kjente igjen mange klassikere, fx Son of a preacher man". Ikke visste jeg at vi hadde en hvit Aretha Franklin!
bloody hell this is good. i didn't realise half of this was her. this is the 60s at its best, skittish drums, brass, strings, backing singers and melodies.
Fucking incredible
Wow good! I had no idea. She nails every one of these great songs.
It's Dusty Springfield, she was a hero.
Rating: 10/10
At first, I didn't get the depth and emotion and individuality here that I got listening to Dusty in Memphis. It seemed to sound very much like other 60s girl groups (which is not in any way a negative, mind you!). However, listening again, many of the songs being classics with well-known performances by others, I really got to appreciate the debut of a real talent. I really loved her performances of the classic songs, noting that I'm not sure I could pick Dusty or Dionne when it comes to Bacharach/David. (They both win!) It was "Don't You Know," though, that her singing really blew me away. I could listen to this one over and over and over.
This was a blast to listen to!
I love Dusty Springfield, and this album is chock-full of great songs done in her fantastic style. What’s not to love?
Well this is extraordinary. Definitely one of the best.
She is awesomesauce!
Jaa ik hou van haar energie en haar stem. You don't own me, kende ik natuurlijk al maar heel het album is echt sterk met vooral een sterk middenstuk. Ik hoor graag meer van haar en van dit genre.
Another fantastic album from Dusty
I fell in love with Dusty Springfield while listening to "Dusty In Memphis," and while that album has a particular magic of its own, this album, "A Girl Called Dusty," is no less amazing. Some truly iconic songs here. She puts so much into every song. Love her voice. Absolutely iconic.
It was surprisingly easy to listen to and I knew many of the songs.
Actually really love this. 60s. Some covers of songs I've heard before. Super catchy!
GOD
Yndisleg plata. Dusty var einstök!
Really weird Rick Springfield album.
03/15/2022 Okay, Dusty! Go off!!!
Superb cool mellow listening - What a voice she had ! So resonant, smooth yet with just enough emotion in it to believe what she was telling you. Totally recommended.
Wow. Pure joy blasting out the speakers. They don’t make them like this anymore. I love how hard the drums are on a lot of these songs. Everything on here is gold but “Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa” wrecked me. Also, she can really wail! "Don't You Know" in particular has some fantastic, soulful vocals in the second half. (I had to stream that one on the album "Dusty" for some reason.)
Tight, polished, and chock full of excellent songwriting.
Wonderful, mournful 60s blue-eyed soul. You Don't Own Me is chilling and perfect.
Is there a better British Soul Singer than Dusty? I don't think so! "Can I Get A Witness" "You Don't Own Me" "Wishin' & Hopin'" "Anyone Who Had A Heart" the list goes on of classic soul/pop on this album. Brilliant, and reminds me of my childhood, you can hear here why the Pet Shop Boys wanted to revive her career in the late 80's. Iconic and strong role model! Love this album it reminds me of my childhood in the 60's
I listened to this album on headphones during the car ride from Buffalo to Chicago, which was the perfect way to hear the buttery quality of Dusty's voice. I've heard a few of the songs before, but it was special to listen to a whole album of her. I haven't thought of the song "You Don't Own Me" in awhile and think its a beautiful mix of sweet and creepy. I loved the arrangement of "Mockingbird", with the backing vocals being as loud as the lead vocals. "Can I Get a Witness" really showcased her vocal range and I loved the screamy bits at the end!
love!
PopR&Bblue-eyed soul. You Don't Own Me
What a wonderful album and I want to do a cross reference on which of these were covers or originals. Beautiful songs in here and her voice is marvellous
30th album of 1001 challenge. (Oct.11, 2021). Great!
I just cannot get enough of this. The album is not a 5 Its very repetitive and the closing tracks are a little dull But god I'm all for that cute 60s love music. You Don't Own Me and My Colouring Book are really good
2nd album 03022021
Chill
This album was a treat. It contains all of the Dusty Springfield songs I already knew, plus some additional gems.
Loved this, even better than the other album even though that has the most well known tune. could listen again and again
Love Dusty! Almost forgot how many hits she had back in the 60s. But her joint project with the Pet Shop Boys was the best.
Classic. Love it.
Dusty slaps 5/5
That was fun. Love Dusty Springfield.
It was really good!! I don’t know I expected less. But I found this super.
Soulful, liked it much better than I expected. Favorite songs were You Don't Own Me, Summer is Over
Great.
Good stuff
Great!
All killer, no filler
Great voice, lots of bangers
Wow, this was good. Dusty in Memphis is the album we always hear about, but this one does a better job of showcasing her great singing and especially her delivery, which she nuances for different styles. This is pre-Beatles 60s pop at its best.
A solid debut. Good blue eyed soul.
Сара 4- Марко 4
Feels like a 'best of'. Just solid quality songs that are fun and heartbreaking at the same time.
Good album overall. A lot of covers on this album which is why a lot of it felt familiar. I love Dusty's voice, but I think before I likened the timbre of her voice reminds of Adele (more on this album than others) which is not a bad thing at all. It was a good album for midweek. Biggest Hit - You Don't Own Me Biggest Miss (if I had to choose ) - Once Upon A Time Not So Hidden Gem - Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa
its amazing how a genre doesnt really matter how good the song is its more of the artist 7.8/10
Enjoyed
This is delightful through and through. Maybe it’s just my current mood, but I feel like every song is just hitting. It’s the perfect blend of melody and fun. Strong 4/5.
Essential for anyone who wants to pretend they're in a Scorcese film.
This album is beautiful and iconic. I didn't expect it to be as full of hits as it was. 'Don't You Know' was a new delight, and 'You Don't Own Me' is iconic. This music stands the test of time and feels as fresh and relevant as ever.
Didn’t realize she sang some of these songs. Lots of good stuff on here
Good album. Didn't jump out at me, mostly nostalgic of songs I heard growing up.
Приятное
dusty springfield для меня всегда звучит хорошо
The only song I knew by Dusty Springfield was Son of a Preacher Man. I did not realize how much she used that French pop sound for this album, also mixed in with almost Motown style songs. She really has a beautiful, and powerful voice. I really liked this and will no longer thinking she was a one hit wonder.
The production is so dated, but the songs still sound so good.
Bara nokkuð góð plata. Jájá, gef henni bara fjórar.
8/10
couple big hitters but never heard of
🫦
Hitkavalkad! Visste dock inte att Dusty var britt! Men jag dömer inte. Kul med mer Burt Bacharach. Tar varje tillfälle som finns att hylla, här har han ju bland annat bidragit med 15 min till Eslöv.
det är hennes röst!
Pretty great, she's a staple of the genre for a reason.
A much better listen than I was expecting.
Love this woman's voice. Icon
Pretty solid. Better than her other album on this list. Lots of gems.
I recognize a bunch of these tracks by title, but I've never listened to this album start-to-finish. Notably, I'm listening to the "Expanded Edition" which is about 55 minutes. Yeah, it's hard to deny this collection of songs. So many classics.
7/10 Me encantó. Había unos temas que no tenía idea que eran de ella que me parecen una joyita. Sin duda lo volvería a escuchar.
There were some good ones in here, though I felt I had to dig through the a couple layers to find them. Like little nuggets of gold, it kept making me look for more
This was so enjoyable!
Some absolute classics on here. It contains a lot of the benchmark versions of songs from the golden age of Bacharach and David. It does lack a bit of edge and has been very influential on an awful lot of artists who I actively dislike, which means it cannot achieve a 5. Still very good, though.
Some great songs and every one is well sung. Some of the bluesy numbers didn’t neccessarily suit her voice quite as well though and didn’t quite hit the highs consistently enough to warrant top marks but overall was enjoyable enough as a celebration of some of the since classic songs of the 60s.
This was great! I really enjoyed this. I never realized she was British. And that she was around so much earlier than I thought. She sounds like she’s holding back at times on this but you feel when she isn’t.
Very romantic, like a story being told. Ending was a bit sad. Some really good bops on here. Leah - 5.5/7 Leprechauns Austin - 6/7 Leprechauns
I prefer Dusty in Memphis, but this was pretty good too.
lesbo realness
Really, really enjoyed this one!
