Not a jazz guy really
I just imagine sitting in a jazz club/bar listening to this. Quite nice, peaceful. Love it.
Appreciate the talent but still not a jazz fan.
Cool & Blue. Listened to this at work and kind of made me spacey and stare, which is good as mood music, but not productive. Has a similar even more wee hours vibe than Frank Sinatras Wee Hours album, like the afterparty for that album. Very laid back, low energy if that is the mood.
-the songs flowed into each other very well and I didn’t notice when one ended and the other started -it was great background music -would listen again
Listening to jazz always makes me feel like a knuckle-dragging thoughtless hopeless joyless ape. Too sleepy for this anyways. Highlights: "Blue in Green"
Me gustó. Le daría un 7/10, no soy tanto de escuchar jazz así que no podría calificarlo con mucho sabiduría.
Objectively, this is really good. I don't enjoy this music at all. I sit there saying "can this be done yet?"
I don’t really have the musical knowledge to enjoy this kind of music as an active listener but I did like having it on in the background.
听不懂,只想睡觉
It's all right
slow and easy, 5 songs and a perfect simple album
Way better than Bitches Brew. This music was actually chill and nice to listen to. Nothing extraordinary about it though.
I can tell this is great musicianship, but this type of jazz is really not my thing. I don’t really like the saxophone, and I find it is a bit too intense to be mellow background music, but not exciting enough to be foreground music.
Loved blues, cool influential music but isn’t necessarily my thing
3.3 It's such easy background music, but never really ventures much further than that. I'm therefore hesitant to call it "good", but it's definitely not a negative or ambivalent emotion I have to it. Better than the cool jazz one, but not as interesting as Bitches Brew.
This doesn’t really blow me away like I was thinking it would. Kind of Blue is a subtle listening experience that takes some time to appreciate. Certainly the playing on here is second to none—everyone is ok their A-game. Both Davis’ and Contrane’s solos on every track are classic as hell. The whole album gives a much more dreary sound compared to something like Giant Steps. As a result everything is very steady and tempered, so some patience is required. A great listen though with some awesome jazz tunes.
I think this way cool. I'm getting into Jazz but don't know much about the genre. It kind of all sounds the same so I'm not sure why this is an important record but it's good and I enjoyed it.
Beautiful instrumentals
not my cup of tea but sounds good
Im not a jazz head, but i have started my journey and have context if not understanding. This is a well known classic and you can see why. High quality playing and such a density of ideas it gives you no room to relax. And thats probably my issue with it: i didnt relax, i found it too dense. I prefer Coltrane, but that may change in the future.
So What 3/5 Freddie Frealoader 3/5 Blue in Green 3/5 All Blues 3/5 Flamenco Sketches 3/5 Overall Album 3/5
Jazz 🤗
Pleasant. Enjoyable enough. Could easily have it on in the background. Can sorta 'appreciate' why its so appreciated in the jazz sphere. Or whatever shape Jazz is. Cant give it too high a rating, caus im just flirting around the Cuboid of Jazz. Plain omelette.
No es my cup of tea, pero si está bueno. El tema es que no se en qué instancia lo escucharía que no sea en un ascensor o en el lobby de un hotel jjajaaja
Alright, here it is. Definitive proof that unfortunately, I don’t like Jazz music. This is the highest rated Jazz album on the entire website and I kind of want to give it a 2, but it’s not notably worse than the 2 other Miles Davis albums I’ve rolled already. It’s weird to be the dissenting opinion for once, usually I do the opposite or agree with the majority. But here, I just don’t get it. It’s not for me, and that’s ok, but I don’t even understand why the people who do like it say they like it. Most of the Jazz I’ve heard so far I’ve at least given a 3, but coincidentally this is the Modal style of Jazz, as is “A Love Supreme”, another album I thought was borderline unlistenable and gave a 2. So, you know what, for all the Jazz that surprised me, I can tell you that something that won’t surprise me going forward is my unfortunate distaste for Modal Jazz. Furthermore, writing a complete review for one Jazz album is tough. Saying that is mostly just filler to pad out the length of this review, and I’ve mentioned it many times already. Coming up with a good review for what feels like 50 plus Jazz albums at this point is just unfair. I mean what do you honestly expect me to say at this point I haven’t already said before?? In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if I’ve done this bit before as well. The bottom line is that this album was boring. It bored me, it went on for too long, and I was happy when it ended. I gave it a few tries just to really try to understand why someone would enjoy this, and I couldn’t do it. I won’t be returning to this one, and I don’t care enough to pick a favorite, as even though it’s all improvised, it still just sounds the same to me. Boring background noise I wouldn’t even want as background noise. This is going to very probably be my biggest departure from the public consensus, but hey, everyone is different. I’ve enjoyed some things no one else liked, and I personally find this album to be just another boring and forgettable Jazz album like the majority of them are. It wasn’t offensively bad like some of them have been, but I didn’t enjoy it either. Sorry.
2nd Miles David album from the generator. I guess I do like jazzy things. I preferred In A Silent Way though, Kind Of Blue lacked something for me. But it still was just quite a good jazz album 3/5
A technically impressive but subdued album that doesn't do anything crazy. Good for a chilled out night.
Kind of Blue, Kinda cool 😎 - p.s. I like jazz thanks Miles 👑
Pleasant but not as mind-blowing as expected based on its reputation.
Easy listen - just doesn’t grab me
Malo mi je ovo previše jazz koji možeš čuti u stomatološkoj ordinaciji. Ali morao je neko izmisliti original koji će se zauvijek imitirati a to je bio Miles.
Non verbal
I can't remember how I've rated other Miles Davis albums in the past but I don't think I've been overly friendly. On the contrary, this is mellow, chilled and dead cool.
Jazzy. Great, but don't know enough about the genre.
maybe 3.4
Lindo, lo tuve de fondo mientras estudiaba. Medio triston
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this album. I just prefer jazz less harmless than this.
- i really liked - very enjiyable
first time personally listening to jazz, i did enjoy it but it’s not something i would put on when i’m doing something like cleaning or going for a walk. Maybe rather as background music for a chill hangout with friends. (maybe jazz will grow on me if i listen to more jazz)
3.0 RYM
Yesterday was Charlie Parker, today is miles davis. I know miles is considered a genius of his musical form, but this is mood music for me... and music for if I want to marvel at skill. I do appreciate musical skill but only in the context of great songs that blow my mind. I didn't get that feeling here. And there's too much saxophone. Really enjoyed the double bass though. I'll pass on this and go back to Charlie.
It's ight. I think "Blue In Green" is phenomenal, but past that, I don't really get what all the fuss is about. (3.5)
two great additions to my blue bate bue playlist
Still eh to jazz even if the greatest
Find it hard to stay engaged.
Nije lose… svidja mi se sto je drugacije u smislu da ne slusam instrumentalnu muziku toliko ali ne mogu da slusam svoje misli po 10 minuta 😭. Ali dobro za background music
9 minute songs?!?! Wtf. I’m gonna be strong. Where are the words
Best Track - "So What"
Starts upbeat ends glumly Charlie brown and the gang could cut a rug to this
Nice and chill. Reminds me of the music played in the foyer of a classy hotel!
Not a big jazz fan but felt it here a little
3.0
i would’ve never listened to this album. i’m glad i am. its so cute and jazzy!!
Fint, stämningsfullt och lite svängigt. Kan tänka mig att lyssna när Maglarn slår på den en lördagskväll i vintermörkret.
Did the drummer from the Doors make this list?
I’m no expert, but I’d call this a jazz album.
- Do I know anything about jazz? No, but this album was pretty good. - I enjoyed the slower songs like Flamenco Sketches and Blue In Green - it felt like I was in a coffee shop listening to this or in a 1920s crime film trying to figure out who murdered the rich person or something. - will probably listen to this when I need to lock in and study
good background music :)
A nice jazz album. I don’t really have a favourite song but I also don’t have any complaints. 3 stars for me A nice album for the background, didn't really move me but i don't know much about jazz.
This is the album I used to try to get into jazz in 9th grade. I wanted to be sophisticated so badly. Didn’t work then and it didn’t work now.
Enjoyable!
Yes, I know, Miles Davis, Jazz, masterpiece, legendary album, yada, yada, yada, but I just wasn't in the mood for this today. 3/5
Nice times thx
Actually quite nice
Not a jazz fan, this was cool i can see myself playing this when i need background music
calming
Not my thing but listened to whole album
Well I don’t know much about jazz but I know enough to know this is the most famous jazz record ever. So it’ll get its three stars since it should be on the list. Now let’s see if I like the music. This is just one of those things. I can accept that this is an important and influential record and the musicians are top notch, I just don’t enjoy this music. First of all I hate the rhythm section, the drums and bass are lethargic and dull, not driving the songs at all. The music has its moments (eg the beginning of Blue in Green) though even at its best it sounds tacky (maybe it’s this album that made this kind of stuff universal and tacky? It actually doesn’t matter). It just drags on and I feel the musical ideas are taken to the point we get sick of them, long after a conclusion has been reached. Anyway three stars.
Best Song: Boplicity This was my second listen, it was recommended to me by a friend when I was in college because I mistakenly said I enjoyed jazz. This is jazz. And it is not really something I enjoyed. I can't say I disliked it because that is not fair to the genre, I'm sure as far as jazz goes, this is top of the line. I just can't really decipher what makes good jazz from bad jazz. 3/5.
I don’t think i’m at the stage in my life where I can fully appreciate all the components that go into jazz. However, I like the way the album sounded, it’s good study music.
clasiccccc
Another album where I'm not entirely sure I have the cultural hinterland to appreciate it fully. Some beautiful moments (for example, most of Blue in Green) but also times where it just felt perfectly pleasant but completely inoffensive. Possibly best appreciated in a dimly-lit jazz bar, drinking an Old Fashioned, surrounded by cigar smoke.
All blues was nice, the rest was pretty but just as background music for me.
Not my genre
I am not a jazz fan, and never have been. I know Miles Davis is wonderful, groundbreaking, talented, etc. Just not for me - but I can still appreciate why this music is important.
Beautiful music, but not very exciting. Much like the other Miles Davis album I had on here, I would absolutely love to see this live in a jazz club.
I've listened to this countless times over the years and I still can't make up my mind if it is genius or madness.
not my kind of music
42/1001 Okay. I know this is regarded as one of the greats but I’m going to need more time to come around to jazz music. This sounds like a Charlie Brown special to me. 5/10
glad i finally listened to this iconic jazz album, but i would be lying if i said i loved it. it was definitely a pleasant listen, but ultimately, like most jazz i’ve heard, it didn’t move me... i did like it more than In A Silent Way. that might have to do with the presence of John Coltrane’s sax, which makes sense since A Love Supreme is really the only jazz record i’ve connected with in this 1001 journey.
First impression; Decent background music. But not really something I'd actively listen to. I get why people like it, but I'd prefer some more melody with my rhythms please. If nothing else, it's very chillax. 3,0/5
Well. Not my thing but coming at the heels of bob Dylan this is like a breath of fresh air. Will I listen to this again? Nah. Not the worst thing on this list though.
I don't understand this album. I listened to it three times just to confirm that I don't understand it. It just isn't very interesting to listen to. Maybe it's a great read?
I got “Birth of the Cool” yesterday! I don’t really know how to rate jazz albums, but I liked this one more, so I’m giving it 4 stars. I don’t know that I would have done that if I’d gotten this one first. EDIT: I've been thinking about this rating for several months now. I got "Ellington at Newport" the next day, which I liked so much more. Taking that into consideration, alongside the fact that Davis was a shitty person, I'm downgrading "Kind of Blue" to 3 stars.
Decent jazz album but not to my tastes
Good vibe for a rainy day
Not bad for doing work
Here we go. Another jazz album. Somewhere along the way, I had gotten the impression that Miles Davis was an avant-garde jazz musician, though I was pleasantly surprised to discover that In a Silent Way wasn't the sordid outing that I had been expecting. It was an alright album, though I'm not a jazz guy. I anticipate that this album will be more or less the same thing. Generally competent, but with nothing that engages or resonates with me. Yeah, not bad. The instrumentation is pretty decent - the piano and sax are consistently pretty good, and I appreciate the restful atmosphere that these songs have. Like I mentioned previously, I'm not a jazz guy, so I felt like a lot of this album was lost on me and went on for much longer that it needed to. Still, I had an decent time. "So What" is an alright opener. The piano and sax make for a good, relaxing soundscape. The percussion is pretty good, too. "Blue In Green" was also pretty relaxing. I'm always ashamed by the length of these track discussion sections whenever I'm talking about jazz albums because they only ever have a handsworth of songs on the entire album. I'm pretty sure this album is classed as one of the all-time greats within the jazz genre, so I'm not gonna check the book for why this is in here. I cosign the inclusion.
good jazz that unfortunately blurs together. its like the run-on sentence of music. Still enjoyable at some points though! Miles Davis is a legend for a reason, those horns!
Not the worst jazz I’ve ever heard but certainly not life changing. It all just kind of mushed together and while some of it caught my ear every once in a while… overall I forgot it almost while listening to it. I know this album is iconic and praised as one of, if not the, best jazz album… maybe I just don’t love jazz? Eh take your 3 stars and leave me alone
Rating: 3.3 Almost made me crash and die due to being so relaxing. I can’t really rate it any higher because it’s just a casual listen for me, I’m not understanding the spiritual experience many claim to have while listening to this.
Overrated, i prefer bitches brew
Enjoyable (: would like to have it on in the background
It’s good. Tbh I think it’s overrated tho
I'm not old enough to be in my jazz era yet so in order for me to really enjoy a jazz album it has to be in a supporting role. I need jazz to be my wingman to a good time. This album joined me on a solo walk in the woods. Not a single other person in sight just me, this album, and the reds and oranges of fall. Shoutout to the teens who left an empty bottle of green apple vodka in the woods. You guys had a great time.
6/10 Some people don't like jazz, but score it 3 stars cos they recognise that it must be good somehow. And they want to look like they "get it", they just don't "Get It".
Very chill. Pleasant in the background. Doesn't grab attention exactly. I can see people enjoying this more.
Well this was refreshing, since I really disliked the last Miles Davis album I listened to.
Just some ok jazz. 3 stars
I like jazz and live instruments, but this all sounds kinda the same to me
I liked this. Jazz can be a funny one for me because if it's too abstract and avant garde, it loses me and sounds like music being made for the person playing it rather than the listener. I thought this had a great combination of structure and improvisation.
I have never really listened to jazz, and I probably don't have the right appreciation of how good this is/isn't. But I enjoyed my listens but it didn't create that sense of something special.
7/10.
Thought I'd like this, going by the title. Alas, it was more jazz than blues, in my opinion. Lifeless, likely to put me to sleep if I heard it played in a bar or nightclub.
Modal jazz isn't my genre (definitely prefer New Orleans style), but I do appreciate the horns. I guess it's pretty good background music. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): So What ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it.
I've tried to listen to this album a couple of times over the years. I guess I'm not a jazz guy. It's alright, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it again.
Nice love me some blues
2.75
All I know is I took a jazz appreciation class in college to fulfill some useless credit and the guy teaching it was pretty cool. He always told us that Miles Davis was a really good trumpet player but was a way better bandleader. I use that every once in awhile to try and sound like I know what I'm talking about and hope no one presses me for more information. I don't really like jazz all that much. I've listened to this before, but whatever. Not sure what sets this apart and makes it some amazing album, but it's here and I listened to it again and it's fine.
The equivalent to a cabin full of passengers applauding after the captain successfully lands the plane. Miles Davis is undoubtedly a master at his craft, but it’s all jazz to me. ✨
Pretty nice listen. Lots of good solos by most instruments. Would maybe have liked the drummer to share a bit more of the spotlight perhaps.
Mile Davis is a legend and this album is staple. I don't like a lot of jazz, but this album is perfect for the background or chillin'
Not really my kind of music but nice as backroundmusic
It's hard for me to listen to jazz, but if one is going to do so, this is the album. Has Coltrane on as well. I just don't get it. But it's cool. We don't have to talk about this. And please don't tell anyone about what I said above. And also: please make sure no one sees this review.
Good album but I was not able to give it a fair listen yesterday. Obvious Miles Davis is extremely talented.
it's a fine jazz record but something doesn't work for me here
Kind of Blue really feels like the king of jazz, the album everyone thinks of. But to me, it still feels too sophisticated for me, and I end up listening with a kind of tension. I just hope one day I can enjoy it more effortlessly. By chance, I listened to a Stan Getz album the day before, and honestly, just comparing the saxophone sound, I might actually prefer Getz over Davis.
Ha ! Back to Back Miles Davis, yesterday was Bitches Brew (1970). This one is more chilled and structured. Each instrument's sound kind of washes over you and bathes you in relaxation. I'm not even a Jazz fan, or am I now after these last two albums !? Very enjoyable.
Not being even remotely a jazz fan, I cringed when I saw this one pop up. I am however very impressed by the listener counts, no song has under 40M listens, that's bonkers! "Blue In Green" has over 180M listens (used as a sleep aid, maybe?). So to my untrained ear this is just background music in a bar I won't spend more than 30 minutes at, but to an aficionado this is the nectar. I get it, to each his own, different strokes for different folks. I respect that. 3 stars for being the most listenable jazz album that's been presented in the T1001 so far. Only 3 stars cause I don't get it, and I don't understand how to compute the meandering horns, the background drum fills and piano licks. 9 minute songs? Ugh. I was bored out of my mind for 45 minutes! One drink and I'm gonzo from this jazz club.
Bosch
I don't think I'm cultured enough to get this, it sounds like jazz
Review two of the Easter blitz, Miles Davis. A couple of years ago I could, on a working day, put on a long YouTube video, instruct my laptop to remain active indefinitely and just walk off for a few hours. Work would happen, I just didn’t have much of it and no one was watching me. When selecting a video, I’d invariably find myself drawn to the jazz cafe playlists. And in those virtual cafes it was always this sort of jazz; cozy, comforting, wistful and cuddly. The sound of a story going through its motions without any jeopardy – a soundtrack befitting the world’s all-time greatest low stakes figure, Dr Frasier Crane. As a panacea for glumness, I adore this record. Perhaps because like so many listeners before me, it puts me in mind of the good old days. It just so happens to be that the days in question were, for me, skiving WFH days.
Good, easy listening
great background music
Chill background music
Just not for me
No wonder this kids went mad for Elvis if this was the alternative. Call me unsophisticated but this is just nice background music. Brings to mind The Fast Show sketch. No doubting they are accomplished musicians but I find it all a bit tedious. Sorry jazz lovers.
Good for a dinner party
Pretty good
Klassikko, jota ei oo tullut aikaisemmin kuunneltua. 3/5.
3.5 really
Jazz is not my jam but it’s obvious that Miles Davis is on another dimension on this album. While it was an enjoyable listen it just wasn’t for me. But I would recommend to anyone to give it a listen.
De chill super chill musica negros 50’s
It was nice. Probably the most enjoyable of Miles Davis albums I’ve heard so far. But I’m still not that big on Jazz.
Pretty nice sound
Some classic jams from one of the greatest but I can only handle small doses. Jazz is a language I don’t fully understand.
IF I liked jazz it'd be a 5. But I don't. Man it'd be cool to like this, wouldn't it? I'm not cool. But at least it's not Pink fucking Floyd.
Perfect ambiance album.
I feel like this is a treasured family heirloom someone has brought into a pawn shop, and I'm the surly guy behind the counter, shrugging and saying, "three stars, that's as high as I can go."
smooth
Very much enjoyed it! Not huge into jazz, but it was a great listen and very relaxing.
1. Very mild, easy listening jazz. 9 minutes, but didn't really feel like it. Kinda boring/kinda not. Feels like a right mood, right time type of listen. No lyrics, I think this is just a instrumental/trumpet album. 2. Continuation of first song. Building off of previous song. 3. Giving a little more film noir score vibes. 4. Nothing to say. All of these songs have been like nine minutes of smooth jazz. 5. I wouldn't be able to pick it out of the other songs. 5.9/10 Not for me, but I understand why people would listen to this. It also has the added benefit of zero lyrics, so it can stand the test of time without becoming problematic like the Aerosmith album I listened to before this.
Seb’s
Jazz still isn't my favourite genre, but I do quite like this. I feel like the whole band is just clicking really well, it's very foot-tappable. I think this is also the latest "ancient" sounding album of all the 50s and 60s albums that have come up on the list so far - there's something timeless about it
Easy to listen to. Not really engaged by it because a rebellious part of my brain insists that jazz is a trick that really good musicians are playing on the rest of us. But I can see myself getting over that and putting this on as background music. I understand how this is counted among the best jazz records.
ну чё-то слишком блюз что ли, скучно
I would not listen to this on my own buttttttt probably good for people who like jazz
No surprises, exactly what I expected pleasant but not amazing
190/1089 - Freddie Freeloader and So What shouldn't be next to each other track-wise. The melodic contour of the songs are too similar. Kinda boring and "atmospheric" to be honest, probably why it's the best selling jazz album and on this list. All Blues and Bill Evans are the best part of this album. Generally I'm a jazz fan but I really don't like a lot of the picks on this list for various reasons.
By no means an unpleasant listen, but not my kind of thing. 2.5/5 rounded up to 3/5
Smooth, relaxing sounds. Not a fan of instrumental jazz music, but I could definitely imagine this being played in the background while having dinner or hosting friends.
Like other jazz...cool for about 15 minutes or so, and then I get mad. Best use is for cooking?
3.9
I appreciate jazz.
I enjoyed this
I feel like I have to solve a crime in a film noir movie while occasionally commenting the current situation in my mind
Worked well as background music but didn't specifically grab me. I'm sure it would have been amazing live.
I enjoyed it, super easy to work with and fades into the background perfectly.
A classic I had listened to before. I like it but I also find the sharp saxophone kind of grating by the time I'm halfway through the album. Maybe if it was mixed a little differently I'd find it more pleasant.
Ah, another blue album! People call this the best jazz record of all time, which makes me think I really don't get jazz. Not that I dislike it -- I don't -- but I can't really differentiate it from the other jazz albums we had, which were also "fine". Chill. I think I'd like it better without the drums. And maybe... the jazz.
It was fine, but I just couldn't get into it - nothing to hold on to.
Jazz isn't really my thing but this is quite pleasant and chill. Apparently there was a lot of improvisation and very little rehearsal which makes it even more impressive that it sounds so nice. Flamenco sketches was the most laid back and I really liked it despite it being the only one from this album not in his ten most popular.
I’m not a big jazz listener but I found myself really enjoying this album playing in the background, but I don’t think I have the ear for the complexity of jazz at this time in my life.
Good jazz kinda zoned out on it
Lots of mixed feelings throughout this album. I think I normally love this kind of talented instrumental stuff, but this one was not hitting for me. Largely felt like Davis's trumpet and Coltrane's sax were not meshing until the very last song. For a jazz album, I was a little disappointed in the lack of detailed drum time. Still good music though.
I don't normally listen to instrumental "smooth" Jazz, but this one was solid to have play in the background. I like the mix of slower some slower songs and more upbeat ones. I know Miles Davis is a trumpet play, but I think some piano/drum solos to counter the trumpet/sax solos would have been cool.
It's weird, I can't say I was actively engaged in listening to this album, but I had it on my way to work on a rainy day and there was something about it that made for a really nice atmosphere.
Nice to have on in the background. I find that most jazz is quite random and all over the place (doesn’t adhere to the typical ‘rules’ of instrumental music) but this is rhythmic and pleasant to listen to.
Jazz maravilloso Le doy un 6/10 en la escala wow
I don’t get it.
Typical Jazz 3
Jazz. Good jazz, I’m sure, but still just jazz to me. Great for the background, but nothing in it blew me away. I did not finish this album, but I feel confident I’ve listened to enough of it.
very mellow and good background listening. not mindblowing
Tuesday morning music. Lovely but more music to suit a mood than for me.
The more jazz I hear the more I like it! This was a pretty good album and Miles had great collaborations on this album!
One of his better one
заиграл джазок пиздец
I really dislike jazz horns for the most part, but this is surprisingly pleasant listening.
I appreciate the artistry but not my choice of music.
Not a fan of blues but hey it’s something I’d play in the background of a speakeasy in a noir film, and for that I think I don’t mind it.
3,25
Don’t listen to much jazz. Fun at times but sounded the same mostly. Glad I listened to it.
Excellent background music.
Absolute classic, but a bit complex for me.
Good
super Musik, aber nicht so ganz meins
Good background music
Background jazz strikes again
This is a super influential album that I've never given a go. "So What," is a song I've heard covered by big artists like Jerry Garcia. Was cool to hear the original. Overall it was fairly enjoyable.
Man, I always want to love this album and I do - when the horn is blasting my ears into oblivion. If he switched up the annoying horn for the keys or something softer it would be so good. I feel like it is a joke that everyone else is in on but me.
This was so calming to revise to it really locked me in . Favourite part was all the sax riffs and stuff. Obvs wouldn’t just listen to it as a pass time but good for when I need to concentrate . Will keep it in mind . It was fun but like it’s not the type of music to go on a playlist
Eh
I enjoyed having on in the background, it was likeable. I wouldn't actively seek out though.
Pleasant and moseying. Clear talent all round and a real art and skill, but not grabbed in the same way as some music or wowed. Just a kind of ‘yeh, this is really nice and accomplished.’ Quite liked having 5 longer tracks to make up an album. Helpful to read the history too, to understand its place in time and relevance. I like the constant reemergence of the two notes “high-lowwww” in each song. Blue in Green moved me the most. (3.5)
kind of blew. just kidding. it’s good, sure, but i’ve figured out by this point that even great jazz doesn’t move the needle much for me.
What's not to like about Miles Davis? Super talented musician. Get background music for coding I found out today. For things that I listen to on a regular basis, I prefer vocals, but this was a nice chill album. Makes me want to drink whiskey in front of fire talking about books.
Great jazz album but I always will prefer neo jazz. Definitely still enjoyed it, but won't be returning.
Chill, good for rainy day lounging, study music, background music
I've gotten a lot of instrumental albums since starting this. I feel like im not qualified to judge this album because of my recent lack of musical activity. I like the sound, and for a moment I almost wrote "doesnt sound like anything new" but then recognized that 66 years ago this likely was something groundbreaking.
Good listen
Fajne do odtwarzania w tle, ale nie jestem niesamowitym fanem
6/10 Classic Jazz album. Mostly instrumental and boring to anybody who’s not a fan of jazz music. It is good and respectable with not a lot to hear. Personally, I love jazz—but I know people who don’t and they would despise this album. It’s primarily instrumental, with the horns taking the show and the other instruments serving as more of a plate for the brass. Even though I do love jazz, I’ll admit I got a little bored listening to this. All of the songs are long and kind of repetitive—but that’s most Jazz, so it’s understandable. I wouldn’t listen to this entire album again. Maybe individual songs, but probably not. Good study music!!!
Bluesy, soulful
I mean it’s cool but I’m not crazy about these instrumentals.
This is probably some high-grade jazz, daddio. Mostly wasted on me, but I mildly enjoyed it. Inoffensive, at least, which is saying something. Jazz never "moves me," per se, though. Ever.
i’ve listened before - nothing too offensive but nothing that floors me
Seminal album by Miles Davis. I think it is one of the most talked about records among other musicians, which only amplifies how important it is. The thing is, I can appreciate the genius, I don't really feel the music. The album is still much better than anything from the modal era, but it's just not my cup of tea.
Jazz albums have proved to be a nice alternative to my usual picks for working. This one was an easy listen
Nice back ground music.
it’s pretty relaxing but not what i needed at 3pm on a cold day in my cubicle
It was nice. A couple of long tracks (8-11 means each). Did not annoy me the way that super long rock tracks do. I’m probably not going to relished to this album, but I enjoyed it once through.
This was fine. It's just, you know, jazz, and I'm uncultured swine.
Very good considering it was jazz, a little more bluesy (no pun intended)
Very nice and cool
Jazz is great for productive work days, but I wouldn’t want to listen to this in the car
It was fine. I just never love improvised stuff.
Jazz sets me on edge. I know it's considered by many to be the only true American art-form so I'm probably being un-patriotic when I say that I dislike it. But there is something about this album that resonates with me. I can't hear the trumpet on this album without evoking a dimly lit, smoke filled, prohibition era jazz club where everyone is dressed to the nines and swigging martinis. The sound is cloying, but it a genuine way- And yes, cringe alert*, I'm about to reference a James Baldwin novel when I say it reminds me of the sax player in "Another Country" when he's repeating "do you love me?" through his instrument over and over. *For some reason it feel pompous for white dudes to quote James Baldwin, IDK why...
Pretty good but kinda boring in my opinion, like I think I get it but I don’t like it too much 7/10
Better than bitches brew, and by that I get it more.
Great jazz album. This is a very good introduction to jazz for me, but it just sounds like typical jazz to me. Then again, I don't listen to jazz
Ok
Beautiful and stunning!
A little slow and sparse for my taste in Jazz (at least, as of 2/25). The highlights are Miles on the piano and Bill Evans/Wynton Kelly on the piano. My favorite song off of the record is "Freddie Freeloader," which has Kelly on the piano and is the most up-tempo song. Overall, solid enough but a little slow for me.
Very backgroundy, but definitely genius
Meh
Not a big jazz guy but this was nice
Not bad. Obviously the top of his game just not a huge fan of this type of music. Still a classic
A very smooth mellow 45 minutes. Not sure I can pick a fave out of 5, it all just blends together.
I feel terrible because obviously these are talented musicians, but it's just not my music.
Pas pu écouter en entier par manque de temps. Mais ce que j'ai écouté était très cool, reposant, même si je ne pense pas pouvoir écouter du jazz comme ça, aussi bon soit-il, pendant 2h d'affilée.
Jazz is the one genre that I've never enjoyed. I can appreciate the artists and their musical talent, but this isn't music I seek out. All Blues was okay.
3.5★. Kind of Subdued. Still, what a mood.

Class
The album is a good listen.
Nice, easy listening to this jazz album. Not typically cup of tea, and it's mostly just background music, but it was nevertheless a more pleasant experience than some of the electronica albums on here. Ought to give this album another more concentrated listen one day.
Talented beyond belief but just not my thing.
I love jazz so it’s hard to make it unlistenable for me but I did find the trumpet super shrill at a lot of points which I did not love. This definitely wasn’t my favorite jazz I’ve heard.
Some Mile's I can get behind.
Forgettable
265/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
This is one of those albums where if you don't profess it to be an all time great, you are looked down about by musical snobbery. Well judge away because this is a good but not perfect album. Good in the background, relatively forgettable in the foreground, but in no way bad.
Okay jazz album. After awhile, I felt like it wasn't ending
I am a heretic but maybe I heard this too often being pulled out to be a milestone but to me it’s just „Nice“.
Oh yes, the early 2000s! A time when bands were exploding onto the scene with major record label deals that included massive distribution, marketing, and endless radio play on top 10 stations. You know exactly what I’m talking about, right? That’s right, INDIE ROCK! Or at least that’s what this generation of bands was labeled as. “Is This It” by The Strokes was definitely one of those albums. Back then, even though I saw through all the hype, I still thought this album was pretty solid on its own merits. However, relistening to it now, I realize that this generation of music either didn’t age that well or maybe I’m just burned out from it because I heard so much of it 20 years ago.
Not that much into jazz, it's always a bit too slow and meandering for my tastes but this one was nice and pretty enough, I understand why it has the reputation it has.
good background music
This would be really cool for cooking to or as background music for a nice dinner. Unfortunately I was driving for two hours and this isn’t really what you want on such occasions. It didn’t send me to sleep, but there wasn’t anything to really stir my interest. As jazz it’s half decent. I don’t know enough about jazz to understand how important this is. It has its place, but this isn’t one to come back to everyday for a week.
Good background music
Always find it hard to rate jazz, as I'm sure this is much better than I believe it to be, I just don't dig jazz music and I never choose to listen to it. If I was in a lift, or struggling to drift off to sleep, or perhaps in a jazz club with a nice drink and good company, I'd be more than happy to let some Miles Davis rinse over me, as he's very good indeed. But I'm only in these scenarios very rarely, sadly.
Haft på under dagen. Det är ju rätt behagligt. Det är dock svårt att hitta stunder där man säger "wow". Det är småputtrande najs.
Very chill jazz. Brilliant musicianship, but it does all kind of blend together.
Probably picked the wrong venue (beginning of a long highway drive) to listen to this one, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
kind of good
Just not my kind of music, but this is less grating than most.
3 out of 5. Good album for a rainy day.
Solid 3.5/5
Cool
I guess this is a mega classic, probably because for jazz this is downright listenable. An entire album of jazz in a row though is still pretty tough for me.
Hard to describe but I feel my mind drifting when listening to this album Sounds beautiful but for me I feel like the absence of lyrics means I can't fully be absorbed in the song Still a good classic Favourite songs: All blues Just not what music I'm craving to listen to right now, I need me some monkey gone to heaven
I'm not a jazz man. I gave it a couple of listens and whilst it did not make me cry or my ears bleed it did not move me. It was perfectly serviceable as background music whilst I worked - but not sure that's the greatest recommendation. Appreciate its a classic and I'm a basic bitch philistine but can only really give it a 3 as just did not get it. sorry.
Ja. Hörenswert
i really enjoy listening to jazz instrumentals like this. i greatly prefer songs with vocals/lyrics, but something about jazz instrumentals just feels warm and fuzzy.
Already had this.
I know this is regarded as one of the best albums of all time, and potentially the best jazz album of all time. However, jazz has a ceiling for me and it can only be but so enjoyable. I liked listening to this in the background, but not sure I would ever throw it on again. 6/10 (3/5)
It was okay.
This is objectively good music, it’s just not something I particularly care about
If this is the best Jazz has to offer, it might just not be for me. I do understand the appeal, but I just get bored. I much prefer Jazz influenced works — progressive bands that incorporate jazz influences. Or Cowboy Bebop type jazz. Typical modal jazz just bores the hell out of me. I wish I enjoyed it more. It’s fine. Pleasent for the background, but not enough to hold my attention as the main attraction.
I don't really understand jazz. It's enjoyable for a bit but then it sort of all blends together.
Sounds like something you would hear in the peanuts show
3/5
Very pleasant
Kind Of Blue isn't the best jazz album out there but it's still a decent one. This one seems to greatly reduce the amount of songs from Birth Of The Cool to this and in exchange, makes the songs longer. I personally like this style more since it allows the songs to do a better job at sinking in as well as being able to mask the lack of differentiation in this album better. While i don't think that the songs here are as memorable as the ones in In A Silent Way, i do still think these songs are pretty decent and definitely are better than the ones in Birth Of The Cool. This album is definitely a good one but i feel it would get topped 10 years later. Best Song: So What Worst Song: Blue In Green
This is obviously a very-well arranged, jazz classic, but it's just not my kind of music, so I couldn't really get into it. I did enjoy the more mellow pieces, but not enough to rate it higher than a 3. No doubt these are some really talented musicians, though.
Bit of a slow burner. There was some interesting pockets, but it meandered quite a lot.
So effortless! Davis made it sound like a restful breath
I think, given how universally lauded this album is, and given that I just thought it was pleasant to hear, I can definitely say that I don't really like or appreciate jazz.
Best Song: Blue in Green. Extremely laid back and relaxed. The bass is really the star here for me. Worst Song: There isn't one, everything kind of blurs into a somewhat familiar pastiche. Overall: Can an album be too smooth? It feels like it slips right out of my eardrums as I listen to it, bypassing my attention entirely. Pleasant and inoffensive in the background, certainly something that sets a mood, but not an album that stops you and confronts you with anything novel or particularly interesting.
can appreciate the skill but the sax cut across too loudly for me to enjoy, had to keep turning the volume down
Nice background music nothing special, but pleasant listening. 3
Thus is a very famous jazz album, which everyone should hear at least once. This is the second time I've listened to it in my lifetime, it's really good, but not what I go out of my way to listen to on a daily basis. It would be perfect for a dinner party to host refined friends. The problem is I just don't know anyone who fits the bill, so listening to this again will have to stay a dream for the time being. I loved the pace, with its gentle , almost inaudible timpany, and melody of the those trumpets. It's a 3 star job that.
Again, I think I'm missing something. This was fine as far as jazz goes. I'm just not huge into Jazz. I can't think of a time where I would ever say, Let me put on Kind of Blue. I understand it's amazing, and that it's life changing. I just am not getting it.
I’m not mentally well rn, so I was excited to have some nice lyric-less jazz to buckle down to. Unfortunately the horns were a bit shrill for me. I feel bad because this is definitely the result of my mental state, but it’s just a 3 for me.
Oh jazz. I just don’t get you. But it’s not fair to give it too low a rating just because I’m not feeling it.
The best one of the Davi’s albums
Very energetic start but mellows out halfway through. Feel like I need to listen to it many more times to fully unpack and appreciate.
Reminded me why I like jazz/blues in small doses
Meh
A really lovely jazz album, which is saying something since I’m not fond of jazz.
I hate jazz but this was pretty good (for its genre)
So smooth.
3 stars purely because jazz guys know how to treat a bass right. and to be fair it's pretty listenable
Kind of Beige.
kind of noodle
Not my usual jam, songs seemed to all flow into one but first dip into jazz. Was okay, probably wouldn’t play by myself.
timeless classic
A pretty good jazz album.
Kind of blue? Well, I guess. I do hear a lot of blue notes in this, which is pretty much a given, since it's jazz. And it does invoke a certain sense of melancholy every now and then, which is generally associated with "the blues". And on the album cover the guy is wearing a piece of clothing that is kind of blue. But if I had to pick a color that describes this most closely, I'd have to say it's "Puce". That's the color of a blood engorged flea's stomach, in case you didn't know. Honest! Some describe it as a brownish purple color, which is relevant, because the sounds on this album invoke the same brain waves as purple and brown noise when they are played simultaneously (although the music on the album is much more melodic). This an ingenious approach to music! The brown noise is often used to help people sleep, while purple noise is more suited to calming tinnitus. So, this music lulls you into a relaxed state, meanwhile calming that eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound (that you had *just* managed to forget about but seeing that long string of the letter e has reminded you it is still present and louder than ever. Sorry about that). If you listen to this album all the way through (which I must confess I have not, because I find it pretty boring), you'll see what I mean. You'll be asleep and will have forgotten about the you-know-what, which if I mention it will come screaming back at full volume, *especially* if you are asleep. Which I hope you're not at this point - I'd find it somewhat offensive that you fell asleep while reading this. So anyway, let's agree to call this "Kind of Puce" instead, ok?
esse já tinha ouvido. Muito bom. Excelente.
