Reviews (page 9 of 14)
This will likely be my highest rated jazz album and probably more out of respect than anything. It’s a solid listen but at the end of the day it’s…jazz. 3.5/5
Superb.
Miles doing Miles things, plus Evans and Coltrane! What a treat. This is an excellent record that simply doesn’t miss, which is particularly impressive given its Freeform modality.
Don’t know much about jazz but was expecting more given its status. Maybe it’s groundbreaking but sounded like a good jazz album. Excellent stuff but not quite as good as In A Silent Way 4.5:5
Second miles Davis we have had and equally as good
Classic album. Easy entry into jazz overall and for good reason. Great harmony between easy grooves and some more complex arrangements. Didn’t enjoy it as much on this listen as I have in the past - I would say maybe 4-4.5 for me now
Album art:4
I liked this, but I didn't love it. It all got a little samey.
This sort of passed me by. It wasn't unpleasant, I just found it hard to concentrate on it enough for a proper review. It felt like 3 stars, but I'm going with 4 stars as I do plan to listen to it again.
Got put right in the pocket with this music combined with a Red Bull. #corporate weapon
I really liked this and will be playing it all the time when I need to focus or relax
Some would call it elevator music. Well, then I'd have to say it is some awesome elevator music. 7/10
Nice jazz album. Looped a couple times
8/10 Fave track: Flamenco sketches
This one left me Kind Of Blue, but So What.
Not normally my sort of thing but the musicians are clearly at the top of their game
Might just quit my job and read in a cafe with this in the background for the rest of my life
4.5 classic
Smooth. Cool. Always changing. Great for background
~3.5, trumpet mutes are one of god's worst creations
I've listened to Miles Davis before, after not being too impressed with his album Decoy, Kind of Blue truly stands out as a whole different experience. Favourite Songs: So What, Freddie Freeloader, All Blues. Least Favourite Songs: Blue in Green, Flamenco Sketches.
I don't know anything about jazz and have no frame of reference but this is very enjoyable 4 stars
It's nice and super well regarded, probably will use it for nice background music only though Will I listen to again: 80%
Excellent working music.
Loved it, super cool jazz slow jams 🎺
the softer, less busy arrangements are definitely what keeps me coming back to this album. blue in green is mesmerizing, lyrical, but im lost on tracks where things become more rhythmic and cluttered - id say 'so what' a prime example. it's not a perfect album for me, but i can see how for others this is flawless - at its best, I find it transcendent, which is high praise i guess!
Chill and pretty beautiful. Not a jazz fan but I can appreciate.
pretty mellow. good dinner music
Mellow
Needs more electric guitar solos with lots of distortion (Hahaha just kidding I actually really liked it)
Very enjoyable listen--I should get more into jazz.
Classic Jazz album
This was a refreshing return to miles Davis after the last album of his I got on this list. The tracks feel so smooth. The motifs appear all over the album. It’s such an enjoyable listen.
Just some fantastic jazz, ethereal.
[8/10] Mastapiece of course but not my absolute fav jazz
a jazz record i haven't rivisited . cool and musically brilliant but like any other long piece jazz record i have listened ,it tired me out .with everything i have listened than ,i think it would be pretty conventional .the lineup on this one is crazy ,no wonder it's called the best of all time .
First album in the challenge, idk it’s jazzy? It’s strange to comprehend an album with entirely different appeal from current pop music being as popular as it was. It’s indicative of the extent to which electronics have transformed our culture
This album is so iconic and stylistically significant to the evolution of jazz. I tend to prefer listening to improvisational / modal jazz live bc I find it easier to get into, but I found this to be more accessible than others. My fav track is Blue in Green, love me some melancholic piano
I’m not usually one to just listen to jazz but i should because this made me feel good
Very well recorded, instruments are separated nice in the sound stage, like being in the room with the band. The music is like being in an old club, chilling, drinkin, and smokin Kinda "cliche" Jazz, nothing too stand out
Not a huge jazz fan but relaxing to listen too
My jazz background is in La La Land and Soul, so don’t come for me. -Freddie Freeloader got them Charlie Brown vibes. -Blue in Green: *turns up collar of trench coat, lights cigarette, and walks out into the seedy streets of 1930s New York* -Flamenco Sketches: for sippin’ whiskey with a dame who’s no good for you Okay I like it, Picasso - 4 stars
hey wait a second i actually liked that…nothing really jumped out at me as being particularly SPECTACULAR but i enjoyed listening to it.
Easy listening, a great album to work to
January 16, 2025 One of the most famous jazz albums and a glaring blind spot in my own musical knowledge Edit: I’ve heard at least the first three tracks before HL: “So What”, “Blue in Green”, “All Blues” Neato
exactly what comes to mind when you think of Jazz
****A lovely instrumental album. Easy listening.
Great easy listening bluesey jazz album
8/10
smooth and chill as it comes
very smooth and bluesy, i can definitely see why this is so well regarded, probably one of my favourite blues albums I've listened to so far.
This was a pleasant listen and, it’s smooth, it’s very easy to listen to. I thought I’d enjoy it a bit more as I recalled absolutely loving his 1969 release, In a Silent Way so after running thru Kind of Blue a couple times I went back and gave Silent Way another go. My realization is that while jazz can be enjoyable, I prefer the diversity of jazz fusion, In a Silent Way gives us the organ and an electronic guitar that provides a bit more depth to the album. I’m no jazz expert, it’s just my personal preference. That being said Kind of Blue is a very pleasant easy listen. 4 stars
Faktiskt lyssnat en hel del på denna sen vi började med det här projektet och jag snöat in lite på jazz. Tycker det är en sjukt bra skiva som jag alltid blir på bra humör av att ha på.
This is the perfect album for playing chess, reading or having a glass of wine on a Sunday evening. All Blues and Flamenco Sketches are great
I will always fw some miles davis
Classical jazz tunes, very smooth.
So I know that I really like Jazz. However, I’m still at the point where it all kind of sounds the same to me (blasphemy, I know). But I know this album is objectively great and genre defining for its time. Not to mention the all-star cast including Bill Evans, John Coltrane, and Cannonball Adderly. I just need to continue my journey to discover more jazz that I like, and get a more trained ear to pick up on subtle differences between artists.
Just some good jazz, that's all I've got.
Chill jazz vibes
this hits all the pillars of jazz for me: one part easy listening, one part lets me pretend my life is a noir movie, and probably important in a way i don't have the musical background to understand. i will always recognize So What because when i worked in event planning it was the go to backing track for fundraisers; gotta make the rich people feel Classy 3.5
So good!
Have heard the album before but haven't listened to it for a while. Such a beautiful album. I really need to make this part of my rotation. Such a palate cleanser that can also completely reset your emotional state in one listen.
Not much into blues or jazz but this is an excellent album. I plan on adding it to my collection
I respect the quality of the music, but it isn't my cup of tea personally. I don't love just listening to more free form jazz. But it would make very classy background/cocktail music.
Good stuff but didn’t blow me away like i hoped. Can appreciate the talent but low 4 for me
Kind of good jazz Davis
Listened to this many times.
an absolute treat of an album. film noir on a disc. every track a wonderful piece of music.
This is jazz
Very solid
Måtte høre på den mens jeg lagde mat en søndags kveld for å virkelig skjønne sjarmen. Det er jo deilig jazz
Really missed my opportunity to sit by a fire and sip cocktails while listening to this one. I absolutely see why people hold Miles Davis is such high regard, and there are other legends featured in this ensemble. I’ll definitely come back to this one, it’s just restricted to dinner party and background music.
This album came at the perfect time. I had all of my wife's extended family over at my house and I was able to put this on as background music for everyone. I definitely prefer piano heavy jazz music over a horn, but this was really enjoyable. Right place at the right time with the right album.
Not for me but appreciate the artist
Enjoyed.
Cool
I'm not a jazz person, but it's good jazz. It would benefit being listened to in the right environment; it should be listened to at a fancy dinner, or a smoky bar, or while reading during a snowstorm.
Relaxing
I don’t know shit about jazz. And honestly, the trumpet is probably not my favourite instrument. But I’m kinda starting to like it. Maybe don’t pay too much attention. Don’t overthink it. It’s pretty great.
I actually liked this a lot
It’s not really my place to criticize something that’s proven to be so foundational to music today. I understand all the reasons this is a classic. It’s a delicate, spacious, and beautifully recorded album that doesn't personally have a place in my day to day listening. To be perfectly honest and not to detract from it in any way, I just prefer Bitches Brew more. It’s clear why this has stood the test of time and on the right listen could be life altering. It should probably be a 5/5, but I’m giving it a 4.5/5 just based on my personal tastes.
I'm not a big jazz guy but this one has been my favorite jazz album for a long time. Classic!
I don't know much about jazz so I'm just going to break the space on how much I enjoyed it. My only real complaint is that some of the improvisation was more frantic than I would have preferred. Miles Davis's parts were always smooth as butter tho.
jazz baby! only 4-5 songs on album
Jazzy
So What 3.9 Freddie Freeloader 4 Blue in Green 4 All Blues 4.2 Flamenco Sketches 4.3 Score: 4.08
Subliminal classic
Delightful.
OH HELL YEAH. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. One I know I like. Take it away Miles. It’s so good man. That bass just carrying everything. Soaring saxophone, piano. Virtuosic on all fronts. And it is just so interesting in top of it all. Cool lick after cool lick. How the hell was this happening at the same time as like swing music? Freddie Freeloader baby. Hell yeah. Another “banger.” More of the same but that same is innovative and exciting. Quieter moments. This might be one for my insufferable New York Apartment man playlist. One for people staring out of their Queens apartment wondering why the city leaves so little for those who build it. One for the real melancholia aficionados. This one was there. It’s still good but not flying off the page like it did at the start. Flamenco sketches. God that’s even a cool title. Big reminder that U2 sucks and David Bowie is hot on their heels because this is what we could be listening to. Slow and melancholic again. Not typically my favourite type of jazz but this is still ponderous and overall enthralling. The dark tone this one has is really infectious. The bass punctuating every saxophone lick. So good. An excellent jazz record featuring some of the biggest names in the genre. A spellbinding listen and one that begs attention to every detail while also flying by. I can’t say that it’s perfect as I’m realizing that may be unattainable, but it’s damn close. 4.5 HIGHLIGHTS: So What, Freddie Freeloader, Flamenco Sketches
The gold standard for jazz. I just don’t like any jazz enough to give it a five.
schon gekannt und hör mir gerne an. Jazz eigentlich nicht mein Ding.
Pretty nice jazz to have on in the background.
What can I say about Miles Davis? He’s a master. I enjoyed listening to this. A couple of tracks are in my favourites. I don’t find his music something I can relax to. I need to be listening intently. And because of that I’m rarely going to throw him on to listen to. 4/5
Super solid jazz album! Miles Davis is considered a legend for a reason.
I’m sure, as he tooted his tooter, Miles Davis was self-actualizing (his mind leaving his body behind to do its thing) himself as a craftsman, turning simple ingredients into so much more than the sum of their parts, ‘cause Miles Davis is a near-perfect woodworking soundtrack.
Perfect for a rainy day. I could have sworn I was in the jazz club with him.
Definitely a jazz vibe
Previously listened
Not a big jazz fan but this is a classic.
Definitive Jazz core. I don’t enjoy it as much as some of the other jazz records on here, but to each their own. Still a legendary record.
Very nice for listening to whilst reading
Great stuff, especially after reading about its influence and influences. One of those that probably better appreciated with more formal musical training.
I don't really love jazz, but this album is an exception. This is some classy shit from a pre-coked out Miles Davis.
I don’t know enough about jazz to fully appreciate this like others do Favorites: “So What”, “Freddie Freeloader”
I have no idea what these guys are up to, but they clearly do. Smokin'
Probably the only jazz album I really like. Still not enough to make it to 5*.
i liked this a lot, beautifully composed and perfect study/reading/relaxation music
Good jazz album start to finish.
i've already heard Kind of Blue before taking the wacky 1001 albums challenge and upon relistening my take is unfortunately somewhat similar: i like jazz, and i like cool jazz, but Kind of Blue is so subtle in its progression of the genre that i can't really take as much from it as someone with actual musical education would. i feel like a moron saying this, but avant garde jazz is a bit easier for me to listen to because i know there's something wrong -- there's a loud horn, discordant notes, hour long pieces. when an album is so perfectly normal, it makes it harder to pick out parts of it that i like without treating its artistic expression as simple background noise, and it frustrates me. two years after my first listen, i can appreciate how it sounds a bit more (i still have a woeful lack of jazz education but am familiar with a larger breadth of your straight ahead bop and modal) so i'd say its closer to a 9 than an 8 nowadays. it sounds nice! i just wish i could speak its language!
Classic
Honestly quite enjoyed, bit different for me but good vibes
Probably the finest jazz album I’ve ever heard. Jazz is causal listening to me at best, though. 4.3 stars
Perfect for desk work
Easy to listen to. Enjoyable
Listened to this album on Sunday morning at a coffee house, which I think is the correct way to do it. Its nice background music for introspection. Davis's trumpet and the soft piano (Coltrane?) Play well with each other. Its easy to zone out and get carried by the music. Overall- a really nice album. Jazz isnt typically my genre of choice but I can see how this was a very influential jazz album
Miles Davis' jazz may be brilliant, but sometimes I don't understand it and then it's too exhausting for me. It was the same with this album. I couldn't cope with the first track. I thought the rest of it was really cool. I think I'll listen to it again. 4/5
Buttery smooth jazz. I enjoyed the pacing and the riffing.
Good jazz
"If peeing your pants is cool, I'm Miles Davis." Miles Davis is, indeed, cool. This album has some real legends on it and it doesn't disappoint.
I’ve seen this album being described as background music and I couldn’t agree more. There’s no doubt that this is a classic - the cover is as iconic as the grooves. As I played this walking along the hills, what stood out to me was how it put me deep in thought. I also enjoyed it more than “Birth of Cool” which came up for me not long ago. And while jazz is not a genre that I would go out of my way to listen to, I can clearly see the influence that this record has on the genre.
Lots of new styles of music have been growing on me lately and jazz is no exception. Miles Davis does jazz so well and it’s clear in this album. He does a good job of creating intimacy and atmosphere in this album, making it an easy listen. Could put this on in the background and enjoy it.
er frekar töff djass. kaffihús og rökkurmyndastemning. ég er frekar hrifinn en er almennt lítið í djassinum. ætla samt að vera kaldur kisi og gefa...
Indrani would say 5
Smooth mellows
some great jazz played by some jazz greats
Best wind blues I've ever heard, inspired the genre it feels
This is good, and can see what it's important but there is other seminal jazz albums out that that I enjoy more. Still great 4*
Classic jazz.
Subdued, extremely moody. I think what it lacks in bombast, it makes up in grace and just solid playing. Favorite track: "All Blues"
Good soup
great musicians, not mine
Not the biggest fan of jazz, but this was very enjoyable. Not sure if that means it’s good jazz or not.
Fair play, I suppose not necessarily my thing. But you could still tell it’s a man on top of his game. Simpsons: Yes
Plätschert so dahin. Schöne Hintergrundmusik.
Deluxe Blues, The Bluest Blues, it’s all about the Blues So What Blue in Green Freddie Freeloader All Blues In that order
I know this album is iconic. So after finding myself zoning out and it fading into the background on my first listen, I figured I had to give it another chance. There's a lot of really cool stuff here. The extended horn and sax solos on "So What", "Freddie Freeloader", and "All Blues" are great. They're also the liveliest songs on the album. The other songs are slower and more mellow, and the album as a whole has a subdued feel (probably where the title comes from). I've never really *disliked* jazz, but I also didn't really *get* the hype. I think I'm starting to see what people mean now. Unfortunately, I just don't know if I'll ever have the attention span to really get into instrumental jazz without it eventually becoming background music. But what I did pay attention to was good stuff. 4/5
Late night album for real. Watched rodolphe and Aivery (crazy spellings) play slap while listening to the album. Made me get it more. Super cool
Soothing
This was a pleasant and easy listen. I typically like my instrumental music a little higher energy but I can't complain at all about this record. I bet it would be even better with a more intentional listen.
Brilliant. I loved how this album moved, ebbed and flowed. Really cool bass lines that keep you grounded, while the trumpet just takes you where you need to be. I listened to this back to back, and probably need to throw it on again for good measure.
Épico y suave álbum del mejor blues
Hard to give this anything other than 5 stars, but I can't recall a single track and it lacked standout moments...
So, we all know who Miles Davis is, and we all know he’s one of the best musicians out there, but that doesn’t mean we’re all familiar with his music. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people. I’ve played random albums from him here and there, but always as background music, so none of it really absorbed. When it comes to “Kind of Blue,” the music is more on the relaxed side, and it definitely seems influenced by a few different genres. What really caught my attention was all the big names of musicians he had with him. This album is definitely a classic piece of work simply based on all the top shelf musicians he had on this recording.
I don’t love jazz but this was great. Pretty sure I listened to this during my “Jazz for Non-Music Majors” class I took in college to fulfill my artistic experience requirement.
Hadn’t listened to this in a long time. Lovely stuff. Listened on the plane from Chicago to Hartford, which was weirdly fun. Always liked Miles better than Coltrane, but John’s sax playing here is really nice. Especially love Bill Evans’ piano work throughout. Need to listen to more Miles.
Had this within 4 days of A Love Supreme, which I'm much more familiar with. It's excellent stuff, but almost too mellow to warrant an immediate replay and 5 stars
Excellent, really surprised at how much I enjoyed it
This was surprisingly OK. I generally don't care for jazz but this was relaxed, laidback and pleasant to listen to. Not music I will search out in the future but should it come up unexpected I won't be turning it off.
Forever will remind me of GCSE music
Locker
Enjoying this a lot! Good for chilling out to and vibing. Maybe jazz isn't so bad.
The "Dark Side of the Moon" for jazz. Iconic album, amazing music, but for my "jazz ignorance", not a perfect record altogether. Bonus points for including the Dream Team 1992 equivalent of jazz musicians across all instruments.

4.5
Objectively amazing 9/10
fellow music appreciator @sam_paquette_81 recently reviewed “Kind Of Blue” where his experience reflected my own: getting the album on reputation, not putting a whole lot of focus on it and then, after some research of who these legends where and why they were legends, realizing what is spinning feet away from you. To quote directly, “reflecting on this makes you understand the importance of this record, they had the most stellar line-up. Miles’ songs were some of the most amazing backbone for each of them to bring their flavor to make this record a timeless classic. I could go on...but I’d prefer to drop the needle and be transported...”. I can’t say it better.
Peak jazz. Still not a genre I seek out but I suppose this would be as good a record as any if/when I do.
God jazz! Føles ikke så fis-fornemt, som man måske nogen gange for indtryk af... Måske af uvidenhed indenfor genren...
8/10
The music is great but the mood is too pensive to enjoy without the proper frame of mind and a more adequate setting than a busy workday. I can see why it's such a famous album though, it has a ton of feeling and just mastery of making the kind of music that makes the mind wanna swim.
Miles Davis, Coltrane, and Cannonball Adderley are all the goats at their respective instruments so it was cool to see them team up. This was like the Avengers of 20th century jazz music in a sense. Sometimes I prefer more upbeat and lively jazz music, but I must respect the craft here. Every song was very moody and spacious and each instrument had a beautiful tone. Fav Tunes Blue in Green Flamenco Sketches
This was pretty good, I liked the first few songs more than the last. The first two felt almost like a conversation and provided good, relaxing background listening.
An anytime kind of album. Cleaning, cooking, great for being alone with your thoughts. It'll take you on a jazzy journey.
- Exactly what I thought it would be - Jazz style piano will always have my heart - If you want an album to get you into jazz I think this would be the one- it doesn’t have the complications and technicalities that some jazz does- this is straight and enjoyable. - Flamenco sketches- moody, more emphasis on melody than the rhythmic section on this one.
This is going to be a super unfair 4. There's absolutely nothing wrong or suboptimal about any part of this album or performance, but it's just so smooth that it ends up melting into somewhat boring for me.
Beautiful.
Not used to listening to jazz at all. Can't really distinguish between tracks, but listening through I managed to really get into it. Last track (Flamenco Sketches) might be my favourite, but that might be because they all blended together. 4/4.5 as I'm not used to jazz, should be a 5 in terms of overall significance.
Too quiet for me. A perfect music but only for some moments...
First time I've listen to Miles Davis and I'm impressed. Haven't heard much jazz before but it's easy to see why this is considered to be the greatest jazz album of all time.
Nice jazz album, great for both deep active listening or background dinner music.
I’ve spent the last 5 days having my brain rattled by theme parks so some jazz is a lovely and needed come down. Favourite track: So What.
I don’t have much to say except it’s a great jazz album! Hopefully, I return to it.
I've listened to 700+ albums on this list and hundreds or thousands more on my own. I feel like I know more than the average bear and like I've given some on point insight about albums. But an album like this makes me feel sheepish because I still don't understand jazz. It may be the greatest jazz album of all time, so they say, and I couldn't pick it out of a police lineup. It's good but I can't pretend to say I listened to it and thought 5-star. Davis and his trumpet have some standout moments (Blue in Green might have been my favorite song overall for his work) but I also really took notice of the piano work (starts of Freddie Freeloader and All Blues were quite cool - I guess not the same pianist).
I love Miles Davis’ music!
I haven’t heard a jazz record yet via this project that I didn’t like
Beautiful, nice background dinner (or post-dinner cocktail) music
All great tracks with great depth.
Damn good slow jazz album
not much to say i liked it :-)
Unobtrusive jazz album that is easy to listen to.
I’ve always struggled with Kind of Blue, mainly because I think I’ve always preferred my jazz to be loud and obviously experimental. Knowing that, I really tried to walk into this listen with an open mind, some prior research on modal jazz, and some timestamp explanations to follow along with so I can actively know what I’m actually listening to in real time. And it really, really helped! Kind of Blue is rarely overt in its experimentation; it’s no Giant Steps or The Shape of Jazz to Come or even Bitches Brew. On face value, it sounds almost cliché, like music your grandparents would listen to, and sure, it’s undeniably pretty, but if you don’t gravitate toward pretty music, Kind of Blue can be an initially/superficially boring listen. But after learning exactly what is going on here moment-to-moment, it all clicked into place, and during my second listen, I could finally see the experimental patterns landscaped by Davis and Co. throughout this record. And also, it IS just an incredibly pretty, gorgeous, flowery album. The ballads do a lot to give that impression, but I also think “Freddie Freeloader” sets a similar tone, if not an adjacent mood. My preferred tracks here are still the most ✨jazz✨ tracks, with the obviously modal solos in “So What,” which are more clear once you know what that means, and the stuttering dissonant clash of “All Blue.” It’s still not going to be my go-to jazz album, but I’m definitely on board now with this being important, not just because other people say it’s important, but because I can *hear* why it’s important, and I'll gladly be listening to this more frequently now!
I admit I tend to struggle with jazz. Even good jazz. It’s just not my favorite genre. But this album? Totally captivating. An absolute pleasure to listen to. There’s a reason Miles Davis is one of, if not the, best.
Lekker album, onverwachts goed. Rustige muziek
Truly an inspiration in the jazz realm. I enjoyed listening to this, and I’ll probably be back when I’m in the mood for some jazz. 4/5
Great stuff, a little slow for daily listening for me.
The very first time I listened to this album, I really took my time, focused, and the for a few seconds during the first few minutes it brought me to the brink of tears. I am no expert when it comes to music, especially jazz, so I cannot really explain or comprehend what makes this album consistently the highest rated jazz album of all time, so I will try to express my thoughts using an analogy: This album feels like sitting in the highest class Michelin star restaurant, eating the juiciest, most tender, tastiest, overall best steak of your life. All the while being waited by the most pleasant staff. You have five courses, but they are all steak. The first one is pure bliss. After the second one, you are comfortably full. Three steaks in and you feel sluggish. Four, it's getting *heavy*. You long for something less savory, something refreshing. You eat the fifth steak and even though you rate the overall experience as one of the best you've had, you don't see yourself ordering the five courses of steak again. The album has a heaviness that I feel can only be enjoyed in smaller doses at a time. 5/5 music, but as an album, others work better.
Really enjoyed this jazz and blues. This is great background music and very relaxing. They can all play incredibly well.
Did it blow me away? No, but I enjoyed it because it was calm and soothing background music
I didn't love this album. I liked it a lot and it was very nice to do some school work whilst listening to it but I didn't love it. I did like the sax men wombo combo of Cannonball and Coltrane, but that's because I am a little biased towards the saxophone. I did not however very much enjoy the trumpet, but that is through no fault of Miles Davis. He is a phenomenal trumpet player I just am not a big trumpet/brass kinda guy, I think it sounds too bright and tinny for my taste. My favorite parts of this album (kinda surprisingly to me) were the parts where it was just the piano, the bass, and the drummer keeping time in the background. It was very lovely.
ahhhhhhh. just a great album to have on, sip a coffee or tea & relax, or do some work around the house. great musicians-good flow into solo sections on tracks.
As smooth as it gets.
Engrained, familiar Pleasing without imposing Simply elegant
Fun.
very good
Great album, some songs were a bit long, but overall really good.
Das beste zu der Zeit.
Great atmospheric jazz
great example of an album that is excellent for background music. solid effort.
Nice just to vibe to.
chill but still jazzy
Not a huge fan of jazz. However, the album is very versatile as it makes for great background/study music while also containing elements that make it great for active listening.
This is obviously really really good. Favorite tracks are so what and Freddie freeloader. Conceptually, I want to give this a 5, but I think this is a little too avant garde for me to give this a 5. I think a huge part of what I find to be so infectious about music is melody, particularly vocal melody. This is really good jazz and clearly these are under talented musicians, but I think it inherently lacks something for me that makes it a 4 and not a 5.
Maybe the only jazz I've ever genuinely enjoyed.
Enjoyable listen. Couldn't really tell any of the songs apart though.
I dig Miles Davis, but I never think of listening to him. I’m familiar with Bitches Brew, but this is a lot smoother and more accessible. This is what you put on while making a nice dinner. Thanks to Vin Scelsa I already knew a couple of these tracks. Good listening for driving through the city on a spring day.
Swimming in a modal soundscape - pure, golden trumpet from Davis
When I was a younger, more abrasive, man I often said Jazz was mostly musicians showing off to each other. This is the coolest, most charismatic guy reminding all the showboats that he’s better than they are. And does it with style. I don’t know enough music theory to talk about the music beyond “vibes” but this album definitely makes me feel in a way most jazz does not. 4
Nice. Ended all too quickly.
Always an interesting listen. Go to jazz album for those that are interested.
Jazz at its best
All time sound and rhythm, I’m a sucker for live jazz, this doesn’t tingle the same as real sound and I bet this is better on vinyl. But I love the crunchy sounds they create in the middle songs
Fantastic jazz album
Not sure I am the biggest Jazz fan in the world but that was quite good for Jazz.
#5 Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (1959) Modal Jazz, Cool Jazz An incredibly rewarding listen, it gets better with every listen. So simple yet so complex at the same time Favourite Tracks: Freddie Freeloader, So What, Flamenco Sketches, Blue In Green Least Favourite Track: All Blues
If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis Actually though it’s a wonderful piece of music, although I’d definitely never choose to listen to it. Beautiful artistry with some all time legendary musicians. Giving 4 stars due to personal taste however
I don't know enough about jazz music to give a thoughtful review but listening to the album this morning was a real pleasure.
Great jazz album, great for showcasing your system’s capabilities and / or new equipment. Only think I don’t like is that it’s too short.
I don’t normally listen to jazz but I have to admit I was a little taken by this album, I really enjoyed listening to it.
This song got me feeling like I’m wearing a fedora walking down the smoggy alleyways of a city at night in the 50s it feels very Noir. However saying that I think this is more background music then something I’d actively choose to listen to again and again. I can appreciate the talent and effort Miles David put into this album however. I think it’s safe to give this album a 8/10. I liked all the songs on it only downside is that sometimes they can feel a bit dragged out
Clasico discazo
If I wanted to host a classy dinner party I’d throw this album on
Good stuff.
Solid jazz album. Easy listening.
The classic late 50s jazz you love to hear, folks!
It's hard for me to give Miles Davis a 5, but it's also so hard to give him anything lower than a 4. This is just great jazz. It's unique in every sense of the word and truly makes you feel. Loved Flamenco Sketches
I can only claim to have a rudimentary appreciation for Jazz in that I played trumpet in high school jazz band and I have this record on vinyl in my collection. My insight would be diminished in comparison to those with thousands of such records on their shelves, all immaculately dusted and logically arranged. In any case, I'm also pretty jazzed about Dave Brubeck, who was a contemporary with Miles Davis in time and in style. Please bear with me that George Michael Older lovingly channels the spirit here. I couldn't distinguish whether this record is so highly regarded since it is so broadly accessible and undeniably tasteful, whether there was some real transformative innovation, or whether it was a sort of supergroup for the era. I do enjoy it for being low-key, engaging and cool. I can say I didn't groove too well anymore once jazz got more 'jazzy' as in 'cacophonous racket' but to be fair that's how you could describe some of my other favorite genres.
Smoooth
Jazz from 1959. One of my more favourite jazz albums I think, nice and chilled. 4.
Perfekt jazz til en langsom søndag morgen tilbragt med en god kop kaffe
muy relajante y vivido
Could listen for hours, but constantly feel like I'm missing something.
Ask people to name one jazz album and I'm pretty sure you get "Kind Of Blue" most of the time. And for good reason. It's a great album with many nice movements. The mixing is great and there are countless solos that are really good. I personally feel it leans a bit too close to milk toast music where it's just a bit too smooth for me. It is an album nobody can disagree with which just makes it a little bit boring in my mind. I prefer more bop and energy in my jazz. Still a solid 4.
i don't appreciate jazz the way i should but even i found this enjoyable as background music.
Very good album. Easy to listen to and switch off.
Gran álbum me encanta
I think kind of blue is a bad album to start with in jazz but that doesnt mean its a bad album
The first jazz album i listened to in its entirety.
Classic, smooth
I mean it's miles davis, it's classic stuff
Lovely Jazz & lovely listen.
I've never purposely listened Miles Davis. This was throughly enjoyable.
I wish I cold say I listened to this and understood what was so influential about it. Alas, I am not that well-versed in jazz. But I did like it, and judging by the Wikipedia article, it's one of the most worthy albums of being on this list.
Great Album
Not super into Jazz yet. But this sounds like something that could get me into it.
Relaxing
Accessible and easy to listen to, with great players. It’s easy to see why this is a classic
Bästa låt: Blue in Green
Had it too loud at first. Turned it down and was able to chill and get my computer work done while enjoying the album.
Nice. Not my style really
A good reminder that I don't dislike jazz broadly, and that I just struggle with stuff that's a little more free-flow and improvisational. This gets "background music-y" at time, but good background music; and enjoyable.
Where "A Love Supreme" sounded like a bunch of guys playing on top of each other (sounds hot, actually...), this is a bunch of guys playing with each other (even hotter)
4/5 Best Track: (sorry, they all sound the same)
its jazz, i like jazz. mjhhhh allblues
I’m not smart enough to fully appreciate this type of jazz, but I do appreciate it. It’s definitely winter music. Not suitable for summer unless you’re a PI. 4.0
I'm too dumb to get it but I'm sure it's great
Not a jazz guy, but this album is a masterpiece.
4 1/2 Stars! Fav.: All of it!
Beautiful jazzy album most of the time. Sometimes lacked melody (especially in Freddie Freeloader) which I didn’t enjoy much.
This is the album everyone recommends when someone is trying to get into jazz. That's why if you go to any used CD store, there will be several copies of Kind of Blue. This is the quintessential jazz album. I grew up listening to jazz second hand (my dad is a massive jazz fan), so my ears are somewhat conditioned to this. I grew up in a household where my father lionized Bill Evans as the pinnacle of musical genius. That being said, I never went out of my way to listen to jazz as an adult. It'll take several listens before I really "get" this album. I did enjoy this, but it's something I'll have to return to. One does not simply grok modal jazz in 45 minutes. I appreciate the complexity, skill, and the ambient peaceful vibes of this album.
Selkeästi helpommasta päästä Milesin levyjä. Tämä ei ole vielä liiaksi soolotiluttelua, vaan ihan leppoisaa kuunneltavaa. Pari turhankin hidasta biisiä, muuten olisi täysi 5.
Great musician
This was a wonderful album to have as background music. The title fits it perfectly! I could see this playing in a soundtrack to a movie with lots of rain and break up.
Blues be bluesing Favorite song: so what
VERY MELLOW AND ENJOYABLE, NOT MUCT TO SAY BUT A SOLID ALBUM TO SAY THE LEAST
Although I'm not a fan of jazz I listened all the way through a couple times and found this album enjoyable. It's very chill
This is my first blues Album and it is so good. It's what I'd expect from a blue album yet it was so damn beautiful. Felt like this is what I want to listen when I'm rewinding.
very good, smooth, flows very well. really easy to listen to.
A classic. So many have imitated his style over the years that it doesn't sound as ground breaking as when he recorded it.
I don’t like jazz, but Miles is the coolest
Hells ye
8.5/10
Would make for great music to accompany a party but for just me at the gym I couldn’t get into it
war in ordnung aber nicht zu 100% mein musikgeschmack
Cool background lobby music.
Super enjoyable.
It was nice listening but i prefer music with lyrics
I don't listen to a lot of jazz, but when I feel like it this is my favorite album. The interplay between the different instruments is always interesting and the music puts me in a very mellow mood.
First jazz album I've ever had this album reminds of the smell of my childhood house
Really, really good jazz. Close to a 5, delivers everything you really want except for maybe just a little more variety, it's beautifully laid back and masterfully performed though.
Still not a jazz guy, but this got me close. It's really well executed, everything sits together nicely, feels very smooth but still has something to it. Delightfully mellow, not sure I'll hear a jazz album that I like more than this. 4/5.
Most jazz doesn't have much staying power and after a while it starts to get a little dull. However, It's evident why this is considered one of the best jazz albums of all time because we could listen to this all day and not get tired. Feels like a lazy Sunday morning, listening to this. Will absolutely be listening to this some more.
NICE pretty good didn't feel stale and forgot about the time altogether.
Ahh, how chill and fun. I can appreciate this. Not something I'd put on on my own initiative, I'm not a jazz person, so not top marks for me, but it's very good :)
It is great; however, there are definitely jazz albums I prefer to this one. Kind of Blue has that languid relaxed mood the whole time, and it doesn't excite or interest me the way several other jazz albums do. A Love Supreme, Time Out, Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, are all more interesting and dynamic albums to me. I also think I prefer Miles' albums Birth of the Cool and In A Silent Way (and maybe even Bitches Brew, but I haven't heard that one in a while). Nonetheless I don't think I can give less than a 4
Great
Mama mia that jazz is smooth
Makes me wanna mull over a glass of whiskey in a black&white downtown diner while figuring out cold case crimes. Flames
Good jazz album. Songs noodle along a little long for me
This album puts the smooth in smooth jazz, my goodness this was easy listening
Favorieten: Freddie Freeloader, Flamenco Sketches
Really, this is the only jazz album I like. Just one I grew up hearing over and over. It's masterwork.
Lotta good stuff coming out of that horn... I've listened to this album many times, but has never hit me as something that I should or could listen to whenever I had the opportunity. Today, I just let it play on repeat and probably got through about 2.5 listens before I sat down to write this. The musicians are all stars in their own right. I think I even rated Bill Evans a 5 somewhere on this list. Also, is Giant Steps even on this list... ? What I've come to is that Kind of Blue is a daily driver. It's something that works in a myriad of circumstances and for pretty much all occasions. Making food in the kitchen, working, driving to pickup the kids, even a low-key Sunday afternoon. This is perfect for all of that. I'm not a jazz guy or even a musician, I've taken college level jazz classes and even played the trumpet for a few years, but I have no idea how jazz is built. From what I understand, MD just gave the musicians a range of chords and let them do their thing. All in all, I liked this, but I didn't love it and ponder that maybe the magic of this album dissipated as people shifted their focus to other means of entertainment. Sure, kids are still playing instruments in school, but the kids that get excited about creating music with traditional woodwind instruments are few. Kids are excited about coding and collaborate more about tech than music these days... everything has become consumed by tech and music is just another one of those things. Kind of Blue is a beautiful album with plenty of heart and a hellofalotta soul, and yet regrettably, I don't feel the magic here that so many music critics have found.
Peak jazz. But I think recorded jazz peaks for me at 4.
Fun jazz tunes, loved how raw the instruments sounded. Would make nice background music!
Jazz isn't my usual bag but I do like the odd bits I hear now and then. This was brilliant though and stands out from everything I've heard from the genre before. Loved this and was a pleasure to have on in the background, look forward to a re-listen again at some point.
Timeless. Nice
