Reviews (page 9 of 12)
Fine - not too interesting
Couple of classic songs that I really like. One song was covered by another band which was better than the version on this album. Funky.
nije moj đir, isuviše solfankasto, al stvarno nije loše
I liked this one, definitely recognize the samples
It took me a second listen to properly appreciate this one. Some really good stuff in here, including 'That Lady', 'Listen to the Music', 'Summer Breeze'. There's a bit of what feels like filler in the middle part of the album, that maybe lets it down a bit, but overall quite enjoyable.
I liked it but it didn’t stand out for me compared to other albums
I liked it. For some reason I thought the Isley Brothers were some form of 50 doo-wop / 60's folk group but that is very much not the case. Loving the funk vibe
3/5 Versões groovadas de alguns clássicos, um álbum sólido e dançante.
Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I recognize some of the songs How do I feel about this artist? Not an avid listener, but know/like their main hits Favorite song(s)? Listen to the Music—I think I prefer this version to Doobie Brothers Overall Thoughts: I do not listen to much funk/soul but I enjoyed this. I knew about half the songs going in. The flow was pretty good with a fair mix of slow and fast tracks, though I tend to prefer more upbeat songs overall in this genre.
Funky and full of soul in all the right places, even if the flow is a bit inconsistent.
Smooth!
I’ve always quite enjoyed The Isley Brothers’s funkier era. This album is one where it’s funky all the way through, but there are two obvious standouts: “That Lady” and “Summer Breeze”. “Summer Breeze” is the best thing The Isley Brothers ever did. The guitar line at the start hits me in the chest every time I hear it - it’s one of my favourite pieces of guitar work of all time. I would kindly suggest that they leave “Listen to the Music” to The Doobie Brothers; that did not work for me. Otherwise, this was a pretty solid wall of funk with some standouts that I’ll always love.
I went into this thinking I didn't know any songs by The Isley Brothers, started the first track and instantly realised how wrong I was. I thought they all had great voices and I liked the funky soul vibe. I bailed out after the standard tracklist was done, but that was because I don't need to listen to the same songs again, just in shorter, single versions, not because I hadn't enjoyed it. This probably isn't the type of thing I'm going to choose to put on again, but I enjoyed listening to it. I particularly liked their cover of Listen To The Music. 3/5
*Very sampled and classic songs. *Love the funk sound but it got a little repetitive sounding besides the hit songs
3.5 The “I” sample is peak
Summer Breeze is a great song!
funky
As a British person, this sort of music makes me want to run down to the nearest Harvester and have a bang-average (but it's cheap!) meal with the family. No idea why. And I'm sure it's not what the Isley Bros intended.
We need to talk about why so many black artists from this list have albums that aren't available through streaming. I'm not blaming Apple or Spotify - but - this seems to happen a lot. Anyways. It took me forever to get through this one since it was only available on YouTube. The vocals are great, the funky arrangements are great. This is a solid album all around. THREE STARS
Very mixed opinions. A few tracks fairy dull or overly wrong, but also some absolute bangers. Might revisit.
You know, this really isn't my jam, but there is an appeal here that I never felt when I was younger. There's a calm, a beauty that I didn't appreciate. And a mesh between this airy, soft vocals and some pretty serious guitar solos. I don't think I'll listen to it unbidden, but I can't give it 2 stars.
This was a good listen. Definitely not my thing, but I can definitely enjoy it. Added to my library and I could definitely see myself listening to this again, though I don't expect I'll be exploring too much of their catalog. File under "would never have bought an album back in the day, but more than happy to stream it now."
soul-album. eh ganz gut, trifft meinen geschmack aber nicht sehr
Brown sugar ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Album 1030 of 1089 3 + 3 - The Isley Brothers (1973) Rating : 3.5 / 5 I’ve always liked the sound the Isleys put out, and this album reminded me why. Their music was all over early-’70s AM radio, which is what most of us were listening to at the time, and that feel comes through loud and clear here. There’s a great funky soul backbone throughout, with just enough rock mixed in to keep things interesting. The grooves are solid, the vocals are smooth, and the band sounds completely comfortable doing what they do best. A couple of covers work especially well - including revisiting one of their own songs - and they fit naturally into the flow of the album. This isn’t an album that rocked my world or made me rethink my musical tastes, but it’s one I could put on just about any time and enjoy. It never drags, never irritates, and never makes you reach for the dial. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want - good music that knows what it is and delivers it well.
3+3 = 3
Day 165 Surprised how many of these I already knew, definitely some songs I’d return to Highlights That Lady Listen to the music
Not a bad album, very folksy, soulful. Not quite my taste, but a good album nonetheless.
Soul with a healthy dose of funk. What it lacks in genuine thrills and originality it makes up for in authenticity and musicianship. Great band with frustrating quality control.
A full collection of brothers makes for a really good soul album that incorporates pop and rock elements. As well as the great vocal there's some really good playing on this LP too. Well worth the listen.
I like the funk, and interesting to hear their versions of popular songs. There are other Isley Brothers albums I like better, but this will do
Smooth and mostly very enjoyable, with a laid‑back groove running through it. Summer Breeze is the clear highlight — warm, soulful, and absolutely fantastic.
Fine
Not my type of music
Smooth
Not really my style, but Summer Breeze is a super catchy tune.
I like this one! Very funky. This is a really fun listen. It’s a style I don’t listen to a whole lot, and this makes me want to get it into my regular listening rotation more often. Favorite song: Summer Breeze
Was a bit underwhelming, great vocals tho.
Can’t resist the funk, can resist the sappiness
SUPER iconic and I instantly heard the "i" sampling of this when it came on. This is funky and groovy and a whole lot of fun
It was good! But I only enjoyed the two or three songs I've heard. There was a bonus remaster on the album, which I hadn't noticed until a bit into it, so that turned me off.
Not my genre but overall nice. How they use synths is quite impressive for a soul/funk album...
Never heard of this album but full of great covers. Super chill and enjoyable!
The Isley Brothers are so smooth. Maybe not my favorite representation of their work, but still great.
Fantastic musicianship. Not at all what I want to listen to
Good album, but so strange to see an album with multiple covers of songs that are better known by other artists. The Isley Brothers did a commendable job with them, it just struck me as odd. You do get to hear That Lady, which is a classic.
Not this one. Isn’t the 1971 album better? It’s good. But maybe the isley brothers get two. One from the fifties and one from the seventies. Maybe it is this one. 3
A classic
Cool funky album
I'm not really into soul, which is a hurdle I had to get over here, before anything else. That said, The Isley Brothers make a decent case for themselves early on. The phaser-soaked guitar of "That Lady (Pts. 1 & 2)" grabbed my attention straight away. There's some genuinely great lead guitar work throughout, and that phased tone is class. I actually liked this song a lot more than I remembered. From there though, the album settles into a lot of schmoozey, low-tempo R&B. "Listen to the Music" and "Sunshine" are welcome exceptions, injecting a lot more energy and funk into the mix. "Sunshine" in particular is a standout, carried by strong grooves and some real nice guitar solos. I actually can't listen to "Summer Breeze" properly anymore. It's a victim of being overplayed to death and just gets on my nerves now. Overall, 3 + 3 works best when it leans into funk rather than smooth soul. There are flashes of brilliance, but the remainder is filled with too much low-tempo soul for my personal taste. The album title feels appropriate: 3 songs I really liked + 3 stars from this review.
Smooth, funky, soulful greatness. Some of the covers are great, though I prefer the original versions more often than not. 3.75/5
Love the first few songs of the album, but second half kinda blended together and didn’t stand out to me.
I enjoy the old soul groups covering songs but it does take away from the overall “greatness” of the albums.
Feels good to have on in the background of a car ride or cleaning
good bits bad bits, evens out overall
I happened to listen to a run of funk albums in a row, and by the time I got to 3+3, I was feeling a bit burned out. Funk might just not be my type. The title 3+3 also made me think of Radiohead’s “2 + 2 = 5,” even though there’s no real connection.
It was ok not my taste
achei legal mas nao é mt minha vibe
3 + 3 is an album that clearly marks a shift for the Isley Brothers, blending funk, soul, and rock into something more modern and muscular. There is confidence in the sound and plenty of groove, and at its best the album feels relaxed and self-assured rather than flashy. The band sounds comfortable exploring different textures and styles, which gives the record an easy, lived-in feel. For me, though, that looseness also makes the album feel uneven. Some tracks glide effortlessly, while others stretch on longer than they need to, circling grooves without building much momentum. The ballads and funk numbers sit side by side without always complementing each other, and the emotional pacing can feel a bit flat as a result. Instead of sharpening the contrast, the album sometimes smooths everything into the same warm middle ground. By the time it ends, 3 + 3 leaves a generally positive impression without really demanding a return. There is craftsmanship, charm, and undeniable musical skill throughout, but not quite enough focus or urgency to elevate it beyond being solid and enjoyable.
Felt slightly let down by this one. I've only heard a few songs by The Isley Brothers prior to this, all of which I have thoroughly enjoyed. So when I got this generated, and especially after the first song, I was expecting a 4 or 5. After the opener though, everything else didn't stand out as anything special. There were bits and pieces, some basslines, some of the synth, of course, but nothing consistent. Nothing to jump out at me. Summer Breeze was the only exception - a phenomenal song. It leads me to believe that The Isley Brothers aren't really best for listening to in albums and instead to have their best songs in a playlist. I'll have to listen to their other stuff to verify this.
Musically great, love the guitar and it had me boogying in the kitchen. Lyrically it felt a bit repetitive, I can only take so many songs about beautiful ladies and lonesome nights one after another. I think I'd enjoy the songs individually more than I did listening to the whole album. But it grew on me as it went, and I might enjoy it more on a second listen.

Album sympa, assez good vibes dans ses sonorités
Yep, this one is a keeper. Their rendition of Seals and Crofts, "Summer Breeze" is fantastic.
had no feelings about this whatsoever, just was lowkey mid
si me gusto, como para ponerlo mientras hago quehacer jejeje
smooth, souful, fun! i can imagine having playing this as background music that i never really focus in on, but it's not necessarily something i'd seek out otherwise.
Some good songs in here, but nothing exceptional. Listening to them groove is great. Favorite Song: Summer Breeze
Not really my thing but not unpleasant. A good chill vibe.
The Isley Brothers suffered here for having covered two of my all-time fave songs (Summer Breeze and Listen to the Music). I just wanted to be listening to the versions I know and love. There’s a lot to like here though, “Don’t let me be lonely tonight” gave me big Macy Gray vibes and “If you were there” will definitely be making it onto my Sunday morning playlist. Also, learning it’s pronouncing “Eyes-ley” and not “Izz-ley” has left me shook.
had a nice groove and quite pleasant to listen to overall. I loved hearing the intro of that lady and recognising it getting sampled by kendrick. also loved around 1.40-2.00 of summer breeze. overall nothing particularly stayed with me but enjoyed it more than I was expecting
Not really my style but nice vibe overall. I enjoyed the instrumentals the beats and the vocals!
I do not quite know what to think of this so far. I do not know if this is a synth I am hearing. It might be the percussion is nice and I can imagine like groovy to the bass of it in a club in an afro (I am black btw) Fav song from this album is defintely Summer Breeze. I will say that I can see a lot of influence of their music. One thing i will say is that they have to beats or interludes down I do not really know how to describe it. i would rate the album 7.8/10. I do not think I would have ever interacted with such an album but it really was a treat (Summer Breeze <3)
Is this an album of covers or the originals? Either way it’s funky, groovy, and has great vocals. The fresh takes (fresh for me at least) on classic songs is refreshing and provides a fun sense of recognition. Jammy but not 100% my jam
I liked the melody of most songs and honestly just like the melody and lyrics of one of the songs as the rest are not really my style.
Starts off great, but I didn't enjoy the second half. It deserves another listen though, so maybe I will update.
3.5 for me
Didn't get an opportunity to go after this one with full attention, but... Found myself moving subconsciously multiple times, and ready to hit the next tune. Good jams.
so greaaaat my personal favorite is don’t let me be lonely tonight
Both smooth and funky at the same time. It’s consistent throughout but it doesn’t excite me.
Some great tunes, but was thoroughly confused by the version on Spotify. How long was the album meant to be? How many versions of Summer Breeze were intended? Four seems excessive
Great soul album with a lot of hits and some pretty cool covers. Really enjoyed the “Listen to the Music” cover. Highlights: “That Lady, Pts 1 and 2” and “You Walk Your Way”
Some classes hits
Some nice groove, though it doesn't really jump out at me as 'good' or amazing in any way.
Liked Songs: - The Lady, Pts. 1 & 2 - If You Were There - Listen to the Music
Not a big funk fan but have to respect the guitar and joy.
Not as great as they think they are. A couple of classic singles and that's about it. Edges a 3
3 out of 5 Classic R&B
not bad, not great. 12/23/2025
It was kind of repetitive. Had great guitar solos and riffs but has cheesy disco sound. Overall the whole album was great.
6/10 - good R&B soul, overkill with 4 different iterations of summer breeze and also the interview tracks at the end though
This is not my usual genre, but I genuinely really really vibed to this album. I haven't really incorporated any of the songs into my usual rotation, however I do genuinely believe the skill and artistry is fantastic. I will probably be listening to it with friends at hangouts, but will not grab for it myself.
C'est dur à noter. C'est de la qualité: au moins 3,8 sur 5. Dans mon goût personnel, ça ne se rend néanmoins pas à la cote de 4.
Ok
The Isley Brothers play really good music, it’s crazy that they started in the late 50s. Good album
Highly skilled, cohesive album. Too many long guitar solos for my personal taste. Some funky new moments but mostly just solid music.
6/10
I recognise a couple of the songs from them is album, That Lady and Summer Breeze. I can tell that this was groundbreaking in its time and must have influenced so much music since. I have to say that some of the songs weren't my vibe, a bit too jazzy and experimental for me and it sadly isn't very memorable. But I liked a lot of the songs and they feel like they'd be great dinner party vibes.
Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight and Listen To The Music are bangers. I really enjoy the funky style of this album. That Lady and Summer Breeze are ones that I know of but never knew who the artist was. 7/10
Smooth Funkadelic
merge funk o data pe luna cand e soare afara
It sounded really good. Smooth background comb music. I can hear some samples that early 90s wrapping hip-hop took from them. Summer breeze cover was neat.
🙂
Just fine
easy peasy 3

Bell’album e poi la prima canzone è usata da ke deick in i
I enjoyed the overall mood, however the specific instrumentation didn't really do it for me.
Pretty chill funky album. Nothing too special (to me, anyway), but good vibes throughout. Faves: Summer Breeze (pts. 1 & 2), What It Comes Down To, Listen To The Music

Oh yeah, cool 70s R&B soul! Damn this album sounds so nice in its warm analog glow. On first listen some of this sounds a bit standard but I’m finding most of this to be quite interesting. Love that psychedelic electric guitar! Yeah this is all well performed and the vocals are great. I don’t know how anyone could not like this album. I’m definitely looking forward to playing this a few more times and getting to know it better.
3,1/5
I am not a funky person, sadly, but I can appreciate the groove.
Some funky versions of rock songs. I didn’t expect Listen To The Music. Pretty reasonable stuff.
I thought that 3 + 3 was a pretty good album. When i first saw the album cover, part of me thought this was gonna be a hard rock album but as it turned out, it leaned pretty heavily into funk R&B, almost feeling like an early version of Jamiroquai in some spots. For the most part i enjoyed this album, The music was very enjoyable as it had that funky groove to it i always enjoy and the vocals generally worked well for each song. There are some downsides though. I feel that a lot of the songs sound a bit too similar to each other making them fairly forgettable and there were points where the singer got a bit too into it. Other than that, its a pretty good album. Best Song: Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight Worst Song: That Lady Pts. 1 & 2
Silky. Great hot date stuff
Pretty good.
Smooth as silk. A lot of these are covers that they now own forever. You’re welcome. “Who’s that Lady” is such a banger.
Nice but not for me, personally
It’s groovy and funky with some iconic sampled beats
This was pretty good, I enjoyed the arrangement on some of the covers, but not all. Very easy listening.
A little too mellow for my tastes Except for the guitar work on Summer Breeze, which is fabulous!
Decent interpretations of standards and, at the time, fairly modern covers. Drags a bit?
If I could rate the outfits on the cover it would be a 5
Just the right music if you’re in the mood!
Interesting mix of cover songs. When they hit, they hit. When they miss, boy howdy do they miss …
All-time classic tunes on this one, grooving hard
Lots of songs I knew. Good jams!
Funky and cool, but not terribly original.
This was more of a soul than a funk album. It’s ok but soul isn’t really my genre - a funk oriented album would likely have gotten a 4th star from me but as it was, I’ll give it a 3.
Pretty good! I’ll give it a 3
Their eleven album. Soul / Funk. A hugely influential album that's been covered and sampled countless times. It didn't blow me away and I felt it meandered a little. Some great funk sounds. A solid album.
summer breeze banger, de rest niet super
It was ok. „What’s going on“ with funk guitars.
I enjoyed the listen but there was a little too much funk for me to enjoy
for a second i thought i was listening to kendrick TWK kinda meh tho imo
Funkified renditions of some popular at the time hits. A different record from the Isley's, but for a group that was part of the birth of soul / R&B through this album and into current times this band refreshes itself. 3/5
Liked this one a lot, very groovy! Favorite Song(s): Listen To The Music, Summer Breeze pts. 1&2
Nice
Composed super well, but does not strike me any particular way where I am impacted beyond finding the experience of listening pleasant
Highlights: That Lady, Listen to the Music Lowlights: Sunshine, Highways of My Life Really fun and funky music, the music tends to devolve into music jam soup in the tail end of songs (minus the covers) but its soup that I really really enjoy. The basslines are really interesting which leads to that funk feeling and keeps me invested in the beat even with simpler moments. The biggest issue I had with the album is that I wish there was less covers. 3 out of 5 Isley Brothers.
A mixed bag. There is definitely good musicianship here, but I like the groovier, funkier tunes much better than the slower more 'soft rock' ones.
Pleasant 70s soul. Summer breeze obvs a fine tune
Sympa en vrai en musique d'ambiance
Funky, Delightful, but I can’t recall any of them after listening
Not really my thing but clearly good at what they do. Summer Breeze an all time classic
Obviously a great album, lots of ahead-of-the-time recording techniques, but I’ve always preferred my funk uncut.
Funky, yet uncomplicated. Must-hear? More than some, less than some. 3/5.
This was a cert for a four star score after that banger of an opening track. But none of the next batch of songs come close to that one, pulling us down to a three.
Not my first time listening to The Isley Brothers but probably the best so far. 5 seconds into the album I realized Beastie Boys sampled them (and the sample is so good I'm glad I now know the original song) 3/5
Grouse grooves, surprising covers
Yeh, okay.
This feels like funk music for people that don't like funk, which is me. It was decent enough
It's funky but it drags a bit because the ballads don't hit. It needs more deep bass funk but they only go halfway. Decent but could've been great.
Wanted to shave my legs
I enjoyed it. I guess I wasn’t in the right space of mind for this kind of music, when I listened to it.
Best Song: Listen to the Music This is good, just not my thing. 3/5.
Fun album from a legendary group.
I love The Isley Brothers yet somehow have never listened to this album. When I was just getting into soul music they reissued their first 4 RCA records which I bought on cd and have listened to for years but for some reason I just stopped there figuring that by 1973 the albums had diminishing returns. Clearly not exactly the case. Some vibers on this one. Always love any version of the Seals & Croft classic Summer Breeze. Solid
Lotta talent for one family. Ron Isley is Al Green lite. Hot record, a few lulls, not super high replay value for me.
Good
fun
I thought this was pretty good, but I was surprised there were so many covers on it. The only cover I didn’t like was Sunshine…in fact, that was the only song I didn’t care for on the whole album. I probably wouldn’t choose to put this album on at home, but I also wouldn’t mind hearing it from time to time in another setting. For me it’s a solid 3 star album.
6/10
Summer Breeze was pretty good. That Lady kinda sucks. The rest was toe-tappable but not all that memorable.
So incalculably influential that I might’ve in head my gave this listen maybe too high of an expectation. A delight to listen to sonically but the lyrics and flow of the album track to track could leave more to be desired. The guitar on this album rips and it’s so much fun to listen for all samples artists have utilized for decades. Summer Breeze gets a huge shout out for being incredible!
Bastante rico y puede ser como hip hop muy precambrico Nota: 3.3
Funky! Good vocals and I like the lead guitar.
Soulful and slightly funky.
I get the cultural impact of this album - surely Who’s that Lady, Summerbreeze, etc. are ubiquitous. In that regard this album feels comfortable. But it also makes it boring to me. Which is where i land. Enjoyable as background music but not something I would want to seek out or play regularly. 3/5
Pretty good, nothing mind blowing and it doesn't have my fave Isley Brothers songs. 3/5.
Good, but it’s a just not for me album. That Lady is a classic, and maybe I would have been more hyped to hear it if I hadn’t had years of being trained to associate the song with women shaving. So many cover songs here, songs which you can’t improve on from the original. Why would you try?
70er soul/RnB mit hohem beliebigkeitsfaktor.
The two hits on this were absolutely great, sadly the rest of it doesn't live up to that standard.
3 + 3 = sex
A few gems, but literally thousands of samples
Nicht meins
Smooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth. Enjoyed a lot.
Too schmaltzy
Smooth and catchy. Not my thing, but not bad at all. 7/10
I'm surprised at how many Isley Brothers songs I knew considering I didn't think I knew any. Great listening for a sunny day.
Fun soul, but unfortunately not my vibe.
Ohhh that lady... I dig the funked up versions of the covers too..
Wow, I really enjoyed this and had it playing pretty loudly! Great voices, excellent musicians, interesting covers,... fun record! It sure it’s great, but fun!
I thought this was fine. The covers were interesting, not sure they're better than the originals, but at least interesting to listen to. Decent funk stuff going on, but nothing that knocked me over.
Should revisit
I enjoyed this decently enough! It's just not really my thing, so it ends up blending together for the most part.
Started off fantastic with That Lady. That guitar was so good! The album sort of went downhill after that, but still smooth and funky as hell. Also enjoyed the little unexpected Doobie Brothers cover.
I kinda like the sound, but only in small doses. Good musicianship and everything is fine, but after a song or two, I’m not feeling it anymore. Maybe it’s too ”smooth” for me. 3/5.
Funky as heck, starts off with a great single that goes overlong with the guitar solo. Easy to think why the actual single version cuts it down. Great covers, too.
Definitely good but the airy guitar sections leave me cold. I'd need to love summer breeze to truly fall for this album.
Unbelievably groovy. The very heart and soul of early r and b. A little long for its own good.
This album has a ton of hits, but then it fucking repeats like 5 times with small variations of the same damn song
I can see how this was maybe relevant for the music industry back in the day, they do seam ahead of their time, but for me personally this is something I would never listen to again. Fun fact about them is that: Twist and shout is actually their song that was covered by Beatles latter on, Listen to the Music is their cover, originally by the Doobie Brothers and is kind of innovative for the time. This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak For You) is their biggest hit. They might be a bit to giddy for my taste. And don't get me wrong, they have their mojo, the vocals are on point, but the beauty is in the eyes or in this case ears of beholder. EDIT: Actually these songs get better as you come to the final song of the album. And interestingly enough my favorite song is Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2 which might be the most upbeat on the album but has a rock feel to it.
Love the first song (“That Lady”), I never knew who sang it.
Not my kind of music, but it is still good. Needs a relisten
An obvious classic. The home of some of hip hops great samples - drifted a bit from the middle but I will defo listen again.
A lot funkier than I was expecting. Not bad but did totally rock my world either. Worth A listen at least
Practically a cover band.
Typical 70s R&B/Soul with funky arrangements and some inspired organ/keyboard solos.
Solid soul album. Obviously "That Lady" is a classic, other than that I think I liked the two covers I recognized best. "Listen to the Music" and "Summer Breeze".
I’m struggling with whether to call this Disco or Diet Funk. This one feels like it was engineered to be a pop success, and the sound has been sampled (and copied) countless times. It’s the kinda feel good album you want to play on a sunny day.
A lot of classic songs on this album wow! I enjoyed it!
Refreshingly chirpy tbh
Funky and groovy with great guitar work, but the lyrics and meanings felt a bit predictable and repetitive. Still, it’s easy to hear why the sound was so influential in shaping funk and soul.
Some great tunes but a tad too long.
A bunch of hit singles, and then some other songs. Fortunately they are pretty good too. Sunshine is particularly funky.
It’s covers, it’s nice, fine, actually lovely voices not doing too much annoying melisma, chill, but I don’t like their versions of some songs I really like, like, leave Summer Breeze ALONE, boys, it is TAKEN.
This was a great album from the beginning fr.
This was probably one of their larger album successes in a long and illustrious career. Personally, I preferred the earlier years when their sound was more akin to the Motown sound. By the time this album arrived on the scene, the IB were clearly amongst the leading success stories for the Funk sound, even dabbling a bit on the disco fringes. I had never realized how many cover offerings they produced, a significant portion of what is offered here.
Pretty good, but nothing that blew my mind
Solid
Good songs and a great cover.
Couple of classics and the rest of the album isn't bad either.
was expecting more, but was alright nothing special
A Motown adjacent, if not Motown band. There were even a couple of songs I recognized. A bit weird that so many of their songs were called pt 1, pt 2 etc. but overall not bad.
fun + summery + funky although i accidentally listened to 3 remixes of summer breeze
Super fun album. The original stuff is generally quite good. Of the covers, some work better than others.
not a genre i usually listen to but it's pretty nice. summer days is insanely catchy.
not really my thing but good stuff
Some fun stuff.3.5*
Early 70’s R&B with some funk thrown in too. That Lady is the biggest hit from the album. Some of the funkier songs feature heavy use of phaser and/or envelope filter style guitar effects. The lead singer is good. He’s not Marvin Gaye or Al Green, but he’s solid. There’s some Temptations influence for sure. Pretty much think of the post-Motown Temptations, KC and the Sunshine Band, Grand Funk, Curtis Mayfield - the Isley Brothers are minding of touching all of those sounds. Other notable songs include Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, You Walk Your Way, What It Comes Down To, Summer Breeze, The Highways of My Life and the Sunshine (Go Away) (SQ-Quad Mix). A lot of the remixes at the end of the album are better than the original recordings.
Funky and high tempo. What else is there really to say? Makes you want to go out and shoot up a McDonalds. I can't picture a situation where I'd ever put this on, but I didn't hate it whatsoever.
A bit too much funk for my liking. A lower score is saved by the brilliant Summer Breeze. Otherwise, there’s nothing here that compels me to return - though it’s all well executed and performed for what it is. ⭐️⭐️
3.5 stars
Sampled numerous times. Feels influential in some way but cant pin how.
Some classic records
That Lady! Who’s that lady? Love it. The rest of the album is strong. Smooth and Funky!! 3⭐️
The cover of Sunshine blew my mind. Cool to hear the similarities between this and Innervisions.
Mi mujer opina que algunas de las canciones sin del tipo " gato encerrado en una caja". Nada que objetar
Lots of samples
Nice soul/funk album. The bass lines just hit all the good spots. Enjoyed it but didn't make me lose my mind either. For me 3+3 = 7/10 fav songs : Don't let me be lonely tonight & That Lady, Pt.1 (Single version)
Took me back to the 70s...but I don't want to stay there.
3 for a 3 + 3
Didn't expect to recognise any songs but recognised way more than I thought. Decent enough.
Not bad love songs
Ok so I was actually gonna give this a low 2, was not vibing, but then the second half kicked in. The second half is very good, bumped it all the way to a high 3. I like how they just get super fuckin weird with it. Fave song: Listen to the Music Honorable Mentions: Summer Breeze, Sunshine
Great guitar but everything else is just ok. Favourite Song: That Lady
pretty catchy with some excellent electric guitar, solid 3/5. Though it was good but not excellent.
Pretty good.
3 + 3 = 3 I am definately seeing a pattern with my 70s soul - I dig the big solo artists of the era and those Bands with a clear figurehead - Sly, Clinton et al (Green). However I have similar feelings to the recent Temptations record to this soul group/collective - some nice grooves but also lacking a little overall direction/identity.
My wife was out of town yesterday when I listened to this and now she's pregnant...
Smooth, funky grooves. Highlights: "That Lady", "You Walk Your Way", and "The Highways of My Life".
Not bad. That Lady is a classic. A couple of mediocre covers.
Very funky, as someone who only knew the Isley’s as “the guys who did Twist and Shout before the Beatles” this was a pleasant introduction that I’m sure I will come back to again.
I prefer the originals to these covers, but the Isley Brothers originals were pleasant. It might sound weird but when the album was not pleasant, it was not unpleasant, if that makes sense.
Funky. Alright music, some classics, but ultimately not for me
This album was funky and full of soul. Vocals were great throughout, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not a bad track in here. Just not ones that really hit me. It makes me feel almost bad that this album just wasn't a standout to me. Major props to these Cincy boys though, from one Cincinnatian to another.
26/06/2025 I couldn't really get behind it. There were some good songs, but some boring ones too.
Classic soul.
I was expecting more…
What's not to like ? Actually, I really dig the instrumental intro very much. Their musical journey spans from gospel to soulful funk: impressive
That’s weird 3+3 does not mean a 6 but only 3 stars. Good average album but nothing better and nothing worst…
It’s full of love-love vibes, super sweet, but there’s some serious groove going on, and it totally works. The real surprise for me? The release date. With such slick, modern production and rich instrumentation, I would have bet anything this album came out in the late ‘70s… certainly not 73! Nice one!
3+3/10
Funky soul, good stuff.
Decent entry. Was somewhat familiar with Who's That Lady but didn't realize it included an extended jam for the majority of the track. Rest of the album was about what I expected from a 70's soul album. Silky vocals to accompany simple beats and backing tracks isn't the worst thing but also not something that I'll play in my free time. 2.53 stars
Quite good. I enjoyed their smooth sound.
ihan hyvä albumi
Maybe I should give it another spin, but my first impression is that this was just okay. They're good musicians, but after a while the songs started blurring together for me. The cover of "Summer Breeze" fits their style, but I think it falls short of the original (and Type O Negative's cover for that matter). Overall not bad, but nothing I feel like I need to keep listening to.
Yeah okay
Loved some of these covers.
I think this has quite a lot of the qualities of very early hip hop, but just no rapping, like the wah which is kinda used to emulate what vinyl scratching does in the first song, and the distorted lead guitar which sounds a bit like a West-coast 90s lead synth the sunshine go away song. It’s pretty good, I feel like I enjoyed the more funk stuff than some of the more soul ballad type songs, but the singer(s) are all great. I was expecting some kind of proto-disco, but not really, that’s no bad thing really. Favourite songs: that lady pts. 1&2, if you were there, sunshine (go away today), the highways of my life. Overall around 6/10
easy
3+3=3
Classic jazz/funk-rock fusion
Pretty good, very vibe-y, lots of covers weirdly?
I like the vibe of this album. There are some obvious bangers and all-time hits! Aside from that, there are also a lot of repeats that are just different iterations of the same songs, which made listening a bit of a chore at times.
Great grooves, harmonies and musicianship. Half of these songs you'll recognize as covers or originals written by other artists (James Taylor, Seals and Croft, Doobie Bros.). Good tracks for a mixtape.
Vibey album. Great mood/background music with a few bangers.
Great guitar riffs and energy. The worst parts of the album are when they slow down and lose the funk. I'm not usually a fan of 70s funk or soul, but this was half decent.
From the start I was like “hold on, Kendrick sampled this. I’m all ears”. Fun album
Boring, but good guitar solos
Glad I listened. However, seemed to be jazzed up versions of previous hits.
My favorite part is the cover of the Seals & Croft song, a sentence I thought I’d never write. Pretty great! I mean, The Isley Brothers are amazing but this was a bit of a funk slog for me. The guitar tone - and endless guitar solo - on That Lady is a dealbreaker. I was interested in some production stuff. The vocal sound on the James Taylor cover was amazing. I will say listening to this while driving through the experimental forest really changes the mood of things out there.
really hard to take this seriously when it starts with that lady, but i did like what it comes down to among others.
Always gonna enjoy an album filled with good grooves. It's probably actually more soul and soft rock than pure funk. The vocals were a strong focal point, as you would expect from a group based on the vocalists. But the guitar was a surprise star here for me, cutting through some solid rhythms to deliver a sweet musical experience. The tone was great, and the playing was about as cool as it could be. He really tore it up on Summer Breeze, too. While their original compositions were the real highlights of the album, I did enjoy their covers and reimagined efforts. I still would've swapped one or two of them out for original songs, but that's my own preference for albums in general (and when rating them in this way). It's probably my biggest issue with the album; there's really only 5 songs, then some covers. Even if the covers are pretty cool, it takes away from the experience and impact. Had there been more originals for me to judge it by, it may have gone up a few notches. It still gets a good rating because it was solid regardless, and the covers were good. Plus, that guitar was awesome. Overall: 3.5/5
Pretty fun album I guess. Nice, summery electronic sound
This is #day286 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... that's a classic 3 out of 5 album to me: early 70s soul and funk with some psychedelics thrown in. I'm sure it's seminal and all that, but it's just not my cup of tea. As I've mentioned before, I prefer coffee. Looking forward to #day287.
Bright, sexy, classy. Floating in the city breeze. My favorite song on the album is "Sunshine," which has lowest plays out of all of them on spotify.
fun!!! idk if i would revisit it on my own but i liked listening to it for sure.
liked
First track was sampled in B-Boy Bouillabaisse! And track 5 is a good Doobies cover. And holy shit, Summer Breeze? This may be my new favorite version of this song. I have never listened to a full album by these guys and I am glad this project made me finally do so. Classic funk.
A little smoother than I would’ve liked (maybe the fault of my expectations) but it’s good and there’s some great songs, Summer. Breeze is a classic for a reason.
This was so smooth and so much fun but also I don't know if I'll ever listen to it again sorry. It's cool to see how funk progressed into disco. 3+3 gets a 3 from me. But it was a fun time!
3.5
Smooth and funky. Not sure why they covered Summer Breeze, though. Seals and Croft did it better.
3 +3 =3
Greit nok, litt kjedelig
das waren noch Zeiten
Chill, well-produced music that manages to stay engaging throughout the whole album is quite a rare experience for me since I prefer exciting music, but this is definitely it. I can't say there's anything that punches above the rest in this album (apart from that solo in Summer Breeze), but it sounds nice. 7/10
Exuberant, extravagant and bundles of fun. But a bit too much for a whole album.
Call me a 2x4 because I am bored.
I enjoyed this one, very easy listening, matched the vibe with the weather today, Summer Breeze Pt. 1&2 is easily the standout for me I know it's mostly an older record thing, but I hate when they repeat songs on albums
Nice to vibe to
Good music, but the guitar was coming on a bit too strong for my taste.
Not my style but an extremely enjoyable album. Numerous absolute bangers, That Lady and Sunshine being the best originals, a few great covers twisted into R/B classic rock classics. 7.6/10
Very 70s soul, bit of disco and rock in there. Enjoyable but not quite my thing. I got into a little and was enjoying it by the end, it's a good vine
