So so album for a great band.

It was fine. I recognized some of the songs from samples. There were some good hits like That Lady and Summer Breeze. Not a huge fan. 1 or 2 stars probably.

Not fond of 18 track albums which includes alternate versions of the same songs, especially with the 3 biggest hits being covers! That Lady (funk cover of their own 1964 song) Listen To The Music (Doobie Brothers cover) Summer Breeze (Seals & Crofts cover)

Good music but it is not my style.

There’s nothing wrong here, but this is most definitely not my type of music. More than anything else, I was bored.

Aika perus funkkia tosin vähän seksikästäkin. Summer Breeze oli kyllä erityisletkeä kappale ja kova soolo.

Eh, also not really my thing. Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2 was nice but the reast I didn't really care for. But I can see why this album is popular.

Funk soul brother

Someone else here said that it’s just close enough to its disco roots to still suck. I’d argue it would suck at any distance. There’s a couple classics and a lot of fluff. Not for me.

The first song is really good, but the rest of it is pretty uninteresting.

If this album came out today, I don't think anyone would notice. While you should consider when an album came out, that still doesn't help this album. It's not groundbreaking even for its time. Half the songs are covers, and it's rare for a cover to exceed the original. Yes, the Isley Brothers took non-R&B songs and played them as R&B, but there are hundreds of bands who could do the same. I imagine you could walk in to a random African-American church and ask the choir to come up with an R&B version of a random song, and within a week, you would have something at least close to the covers on this album. The big hit, "Who's That Lady?" sounds like cheesy, black disco, like much of the rest of the album.

Likes: Groove and rhythm section are great. Guitar is fun, if a little simplistic. Keys getting in with the rhythm is neat Dislikes: A little boring and repetitive. Constantly sounds like the band is getting ready to go on a jam that never comes It’s fine, but not for me - I think this is one of those scenarios where it sounds cliche to me because it influenced and was borrowed by so many future artists

Im sure this was something special when it came out, but it just didn’t do it for me.

eu nose si es q soy recontra hater o qué pero tampoco disfruté mucho de este disco, me pareció muy generico en general, y me pasó que escuché la segunda canción, "don't let me be lonely tonight", y pensaba "no hay nada que me aburra mas que una cancion asi". Tengo esta impaciencia innata, que puedo remitir a la primaria cuando las seños me puteaban porque no paraba de moverme, que concluye en que no puedo disfrutar de las baladas para nada. Aparte de esta canción, no soy muy de soul o R&B en general, salvo algunos artistas tipo Stevie Wonder, que son mucho mas funky. Esto tampoco ayuda :/ Igual me gustó bastante como fluye el disco, siento que las canciones están perfectamente pensadas una detrás de la otra, y hasta hay transiciones de una canción a la otra que me parecieron perfectas (Listen to the Music -> What It Comes Down To). La guitarra en Summer Breeze también me gustó mucho como suena, especialmente el divertido solo al final. Si bien aparece 25 años después, y no es exactamente lo mismo, siento que Aijuswanaseing de Musiq Soulchild es una versión muy superior de este disco. Como me pasó en otra review, y lo aclaré, no creo que este disco se merezca nada más 2 estrellas, pero desde q empecé a hacer esto que estoy usando el mismo criterio (cuánto me gusta a mi), así que ya fue....... 4/10

It really ruins an album when the link sends us to a "special" edition of the album... There's no need to listen to the tracks of interviews and stuff. I really wish Spotify would keep the original albums...

La banda jugava a fer-se gran, deixant enrera els seus anys com a trio composant temes populars però sense gaire substància. Aquí tres membres més de la família s'incorporen, i amb ells un toc més funky, més guitarrer, pre-disco; i un so més madur. Els temes, però, no són res especial. Starts strong but loses steam about halfway through and feels a little bit cheesy disco-y

2.5 I bet this album got you laid in the 70s. Overall, it was a fun taste of the past that didn't outstay its welcome. It transitions between funk, soul, and rock pretty seamlessly, though that being said, it didn't stand out apart from me to similar records of the time. That Lady is a bit too thick of a slice of 70s cheese for me, though Summer Breeze was a really cool jam out that must have been fun on 70s drugs. If I'm on 70s drugs, I'll keep this album in mind. Oh and hearing a funk cover of Listen to the Music was cool. Favorite songs: Summer Breeze, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight

Funk, soul and rock all rolled into one. Perfectly ok, but nothing that blew my mind. Best: The Lady Worst: The Highways of My Life

It was okay.

It's pleasant enough background music but doesn't lift itself beyond that, and darts between different styles so much that it lacks cohesion.

I like this - it's gentle, easy listening in the most part. It's aged pretty well (other than the odd lyric that is slightly iffy in its attitude to women), but it doesn't offer anything particularly spectacular or lifechanging. 2/5.

It's unoffensive, but there's not much that stands out to grab your attention

I mostly nothing this. It's not bad (although the lyrics are lame) but it's very samey and I really struggled to engage with it or distinguish one track from another. The covers they did of other artists didn't do much for me. You can hear some elements of funk creeping in some of the tracks....very indicative of what many bands were sounding like in the 70s. The vocals are top notch, but I prefer their earlier stuff.

That space rock guitar tone and soulful vocals on "That Lady, Pts. 1&2" make for a swell intergalactic ride. However, as a whole, the album failed to keep my attention. ⭐⭐

Musikalisch sicher hochwertig aber absolut nicht unser Ding.... Nach 4 Liedern abgebrochen.

I had to remind myself periodically that part of this experience is trying to appreciate music outside of my normal preferences, but this was one was rough for me. I don't get much out of the long electric guitar riffs, unstructured vocalizing, and noodly jam-banding which every song seemed to become as it went on, and half the album is covers of songs I know the originals of better and prefer. This must have been fresh at the time, but it all sounds like parody of 70s music to me. Best: "You Walk Your Way" Worst: "That Lady"

I didn't like it much

The first track (That Lady) actually put me off a bit tbh, both musically and lyrically. But a few tracks were genuinely lovely: Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight felt more balanced imo, with more space to breathe – even if it leans a bit too far into soul for my personal taste... I totally get why it's considered a classic. It's such a rich production. The psychedelic guitarwork is beautiful. In fact, each instrument on its own sounds great - the vocals as well - but as a whole, it didn't quite land for me. It all felt a bit overwhelming, like too much going on at once and I kept losing track. Probably not something I'll return to often (or ever), but still glad I gave it a proper listen.

18 tracks. Not really into soul, funk, or whatever, but yeah, there are some classic hits on here. Feels like a bit of a cheat with Pts1, Prts 2, single versions, mixes... so I had to lift and drop the needle to skip the repetition. Why the interviews at the end, you wouldn't do that on vinyl. In 1973 I was too much into glam rock for these to come onto my radar.

Released in 1973. Genre of R&B, soul, and funk. 18 songs. 1 hour and 17 mins. It was just a completely forgettable album.

2/10 not for me, stopped listening half way through. couldn't even bother scrubbing through all the tracks. It was on in the background and I was still bored 3-19-2024

Seeing the cover was my first impression was that I was going to hate this. Put it on and it actually started off okay. But by the second track it was already descending into hotel-cover-band that are asked to play quietly, so they don't annoy the people who are here to have a good time and don't want to listen to the awful music. Background music for weddings, maybe good for sampling on 90s hip-hop albums? One good thing is that Spotify scared me into thinking I would have to listen to this for over an hour, but it turns out half the tracks weren't on the original album, so I only had to endure 9 from 18. If this was the eleventh album for this band, just how bad were the first ten?! I'm running out of things to write about this album as rapidly as it runs out of steam. I'm going to give it a 1 star rating.

I didn’t really like jazz before. I don’t like jazz having listened to half of this album (I’m sorry but I could get through it all). That is not to say this is a terrible album, just that I don’t like it.
