Reviews (page 10 of 12)

This album is very well performed, very soulful (no pun intended) and has some really good melodies. But I honestly find it hard to connect with it, and some parts I find a bit repetitive, but I won't dare to say that this is a bad album.

Gut hörbare RnB Musik 3/5

Listened once, a few good tracks, "That Lady" & "Summer Breeze", being the standouts, I could take or leave most the rest. Maybe it'll grow with more listens but I don't think so.

Some good covers, but nothing I’ll revisit anytime soon

It’s good for what it is, time filler with some catchiness. Some solid cuts but meanders a bit.

Not bad, but an album that I'd have to be in a specific mood to want to listen to. Oddly enough, I'd love to have this on vinyl. It was quite awesome to hear the album that a few well known songs came from.

paar goeie songs.. paar mindere... 50/50

Pretty good album with some excellent fuzz guitar courtesy of Ernie Isley. "That Lady" and "Summer Breeze" are clearly the best songs here, but there's some unevenness in the rest of the album. 3.5 stars.

Uh, good for vibing I guess. They still haven't found their place in the funk genre, so it feels kinda unfinished. ⭐⭐⭐

I'm neutral to this. Nothing compelling; nothing repelling. I had never listened to The Isley Brothers before; so, I guess I'm glad for the exposure, even if it was underwhelming. Besides, the title was just begging for a 3.

Good album and summer breeze is a banger. Had about 9 different versions of it though 7/10

This album was ok. Didn’t like the songs with interviews. Enjoy some of their other albums better.

I get it objectively, but not my thing. Grocery store music.

Started strong and was a vibe in general but didn’t quite hit the spot

A funky album that was not on my list

This was funky but a bit over the top.

Not really for me but damn they were shredding on a couple of these songs

Enjoyed the mix of funk and electric guitar. Relaxing but fun. Groovy and cool. Enjoyed it. Brought me back to flashbacks of my childhood when I heard “That Lady” for the first time in a Swiffer commercial. So many gems in this album! “Sunshine” “Summer Breeze” “The Highways of my Life” “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight” were my favourites.

Sample heaven? There's the obvious Kendrick sample, and then I think I heard a couple of others throughout the album. So yea, definitely very influential. I fucked with it. It was groovy and soulful and almost funky sometimes. I listened once while doing some selfcare routine, so not a deep dive. Will re-visit.

Some top quality tunes & incredible guitars

6/10 - good vibes but not really something I would choose to put on regularly.

I liked it. Not really an exciting album but definitely some good soul and funk here from a good band. 6/10 Favourite: That Lady Least Favourite: You Walk Your Wat

Gear: Focalman Cleardara Artwork: 😐😐😐😐😐😐 Production: 😐🙂👌 Music: 🎸🔥🍆⌛🤔⁉️ Rating: ➕➕(➕)/5

There are some really exciting tracks on here, memorable sounds, but it's a long way from the instrumentation, vocals and writing that appeals to me.

The funk grew on me as the album played.

Very Sexy VERY Groovy The extended album was a little too extended. Loved it.

3 + 3 = 3 stars (I’m not great at maths!) This was ok - but not really my thing

so basically it has a groove, but not much. 3/5.

funk is fun and cool brought to you by cocaine i do like the idea of covering/funkifying popular soft rock songs, isley’s obviously do it incredibly well

I needed a bit more of dat funk but still enjoyed. Really need those .5 scores. 3.5

I was surprised by how many covers were on this album. Not a bad thing.

This is an album that exists

As much as I want to say, “you can’t beat the original, because nothing would have followed if it wasn’t there to begin with.” I just think that this album’s sound is a bit repetitive. I just wish there was more variety. I’ve listened to so many albums and artists that have recreated this sound, and have done it better. But again, they wouldn’t have had the idea, had the Isley Brothers not shared their creation with the world. We can’t guarantee that the genre would have ever been created. So, right on Isley Brothers. Also, their album “Givin’ It Back” is arguably way better lol. I like the unpolished feeling of this group of songs. Not to mention how much I love the album cover.

3+3 on 3/3 - it’s. 3 3/5

Really nice funk album- that lady and summer breeze bangers but easy listening throughout

The best bits are great - That Lady, Summer Breeze and Sunshine (Go Away Today) are brilliant, but to be honest, funky soul isn't really my favourite so the majority of the album was cool but not particularly memorable to me. I quite enjoyed it as background a few times though and it has got me listening through the excellent Anchorman soundtrack again, which is definitely to be welcomed.

It really isn't my jam, I must admit that I listened to it while I was commuting back to my house and fell asleep. But I enjoyed the great musician skills of all of the brothers. My favorite song is Summer Breeze pt. 1

Nice sounding, Manch solo sections bisschen anstrengend

Cool sound oldie, not something I would listen, in general.

This was quite enjoyable.

Pretty good overall and better than I was expecting.

Pretty funky... Didn't mind it.

Great playing, but a whole lot of style over substance. 3.5/5

Good covers. Good voices.

has some nice tunes but not particularly interesting to me

Solid easy albim

Mostly good, not great. Hot take: the guitar solos are pretty aimless and generic and the fuzz guitar is rarely the highlight of anything.

Two absolute bangers with some solid stuff in between

Pretty funky, some good guitarr riffs going on here and there. Could play in the background again, but not so standout.

Perfectly enjoyable but not something I'd be racing back to hear again 3*

Some great songs! Some ok songs. Some I can do without

Great sound, mellow groove.

What a refined sound, a great culmination of the previous 15 years or so of music. The vocals and performances are perfection. Unfortunately though I don't feel the songwriting is strong enough for this to be a top top album. For that reason I want to give it 3 stars. A couple of the better songs are covers and not particularly interesting covers. When compared to something like Stevie Wonder, this feels a bit ordinary. These guys are legends though.

I really enjoyed this. I had obviously heard about The Isley Brothers before but never really listened to them. I immediately recognized the first song off the album since Kendrick Lamar samples this song on his song "I". However, my favorite song off this album was "Summer Breeze" which I thought was super good. The interviews at the end of the album were also interesting, for example, I had no idea Jimi Hendrix had been a part of The Isley Brothers.

Had high expectations after the lead single was a huge hit. Then several inferior covers tanked that hope.

Not really my style, but I still find it al right.

some tight grooves and guitar parts i can appreciate in isolation but, as a whole, nothing to write home about

It's a solid album, a bit samey, and just not the kind of music I usually listen to.

fun, interesting enough to keep me engaged but i don’t think i will come back to this in the future. it’s just not my cup of tea. not much to say really

really funky and whoever composed the guitar on this did a good job. not enough extraordinary songs for an extraordinary score, first track was great though cheers x

It's fascinating to listen to R&B/Soul albums in the late 60s/early 70s, hearing artists grappling with the changing tides in music in real time as they react to the influence of Hendrix and psychedelic rock, as well as the rise of the Laurel Canyon singer songwriter scene. 3+3 is an excellent example of a group adjusting, mostly successfully, to that new wave. There are hits like "That Lady" juxtaposed with covers you'd never expect like "Summer Breeze" and "Listen To The Music".

Overall: 6/10 So far I've noticed that funk and soul are genres that I enjoy but never really love. There's so many great, danceable songs on this album with great vocals and especially some funky ass basslines for me to groove to. Plus, look how fresh these guys look on that album cover! They're the definition of cool. This isn't something I see myself coming back to often but I might give it some more attention in the future. Fav Song: That Lady Least Fav Song: What It Comes Down To

Great way to start a day and a week. I was surprised to find that I actually knew multiple songs from this album. It was funky. Some of the solos were incredible. The synths were way head of their time, and also incredible. This may not be my usual jam, but I definitely enjoyed my time with it.

Not bad, but not outstanding throughout. Summer breeze is a jam though.

I was surprised that there were so many covers. Decent album 1001 album worthy: Yeah - 30/53

3.5 good music, just not my style

I liked the couple of big hits but even then I hate how long the songs last. Rating: 3.3

If I was alive in 1973 I'm positive that I would be making some sweet love to this album at some point

Good but I don't need the same three songs over and over.

Cool and funky. Standout songs: That Lady Listen to the Music

That lady, cool synths. Some interesting covers. Highways of my life and that lady were the best tracks. Overall, it was ok.

Definitely not my vibe but it kind of grew on me.

legal, mas achei meio mais do mesmo que o 1001 joga na minha cara toda semana

ok. Not really my thing. Enjoyed their version of Listen to the music

Tight musicianship, funky drive, soulful singing. A couple of really good tracks. But I probably won’t return to it in album form.

Good but forgettable listen

3.7/5 this is my first exposure to this band and this album is very easy to listen to. “don’t let me be lonely tonight” is a very beautiful ballad. the ultimate stanky song is “sunshine (go away today)” - love it! “summer breeze” however is my fave. i was surprised to recognize it so must’ve heard it somewhere, the guitar solo is my fave off the record.

I got sent to a double album that was super long where songs repeated. I realized it when I felt like I was hearing the same instrumentals. Overall, it was alright.

Who is that lady????

This is pretty good!

pretty ok but didn't stand out

Meh. It was alright. I'm not sure it's required listening, but I would grab it for cheap if I saw it.

Sex music

This was... ok. I honestly thought it would be better. Mostly songs that were done better by other artists.

Pleasant, unremarkable.

Приятно и действительно очень смуз. Лучшая песня - If You Were There.

un 3 se lo meritano

Smooth

Good but short and repetitive ?

Fun soul album, the first song is the sample for Kendrick lamar's i and listen to the music is a cover of the doobie brothers.

Amazing vocals great funk groove. Not the best version of most of their covers

Buen disco que no escuché en su época, quizás por ser un blanquito.

High 3 star - nearly 4.

Some nice songs like “That Lady” that was sampled by K.Dot, but overall feeling pretty neutral about this one.

It's interesting because this album feels very rich musically with a lot going on, but it misses the mark for me. I simply didn't feel it. I also didn't enjoy the singing, though the instrumentals were better. Favorites: That Lady, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze

Very good. Half of the album is covers which is odd but they are good. 3.5

Funky soul

Ihan on oivaa musisointia ja tuttuja kappaleita/sampleja. Oivaa taustamusiikkia.

6/10. Some good songs but I got bored at times too.

1973 tuvo muy buenos álbumes: Innervisions de Stevie Wonder (con quien grabaron Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing), Dark side of the moon, Catch a fire, Aladdin Sane, Raw power, Band on the run, New York Dolls, Aladdin Sane, Berlin, Let´s get it on, For Your Pleasure, Call me, A wizzard/a true star, Innervisions, GP, Tubullar Bells, Houses of the holy, Quadrophenia, Selling England by the Pound, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (y Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player), Killing Me Softly, For Your Pleasure...

Bunch of classics

The covers on this album were unique but I still prefer the orginals. The rest of the songs were fine. Good instrumentals but the songs didn’t really do much for me.

groovy

Bastante bien, entretenido y probablemente lo escuche de vez en cuando.

Summer Breeze is familiar and wonderful. Did not like all the interviews at the end of the album. Sure it provides some behind the music context but 4 songs with interviews mixed in knocks it down a peg for me.

Olie voor je heupen. Wel storend dat er van een aantal nummers drie versies op hetzelfde album staan.

Favourite song - Summer breeze

Funky but only fairly remarkably.

A nice soul album, with some dips for less soulful, more soft rock elements. When the tracks continue the vibe of who's that lady then it's really working for me.

I really wasn't sure to expect since I only knew a little bit about the Isley Brothers, but this was a pretty solid listen.

I think I thought it was cool but kinda long

3+ Stars (9/15)

Kind of weird.

Albumi #93, 29.10.2024 The Isley Brothersin yhdestoista studioalbumi ilmestyi vuonna 1973. Mukavaa funkahtavaa soulia

Not my usual listening, but I enjoyed this. A high 3. Nicely funky in a Seventies way.

Energetic. Such were the times. 3+3-3=3

Darn good. I've heard almost all of these songs without ever knowing the band. Easy listening. I was rather impressed, although I didn't bother listening to the multiple versions of the songs.

Some great songs on here, and overall a good experience.

Pretty enjoyable album, high energy, decent cover songs

Leadoff track is amazing.

Fuuuuuunky, love his voice, the bouncy guitar texture, all the backups

That Lady is a good and recognizable song. Pretty good funky cover of "Listen to the Music". Summer Breeze is also enjoyable. Overall pretty good R&B/soul/funk album but some songs are a bit stale.

Easy to like.

какой-то бойз2мен, не надо спасибо

It was alright.

I really wish I could give half stars. So far there's been quite a few that are not 3's but not 4's. This falls in that category. Decent album, nothing to really write home about.

3 + 3 = 3

Soulful and melodic with a great ambience studded with a couple of memorable tracks.

Good chill sounds, make me feel fine.

It’s ok

very pleasant soulful album, great for an afternoon relaxin, maybe lounging on a boat. "Who's That Lady" is an all-time banger, and there are some fun covers of "Listen to the Music" and "Summer Breeze". Would listen again. 2.9/5

There's better music in this vein made at around the same time but it's still enjoyable.

In this case, 3+3 equals 3. This album has its moments, and the Isley Brothers know how to lay down a groove, but nothing here really wowed me. There are some catchy tracks and smooth vocals, but overall, it feels a little safe and predictable. It’s good background music and definitely easy to listen to, but I never felt the urge to hit repeat.

Lot of songs I knew but wouldn’t have been able to place the band.

A very classic soul and funk album. It has some good hits on it. Nothing I would really come back to. But, glad I listened to it.

A couple of great tracks

Fun, had some songs I’ve heard before

cool as okay

yeah sure, good music

Good, easy listening, not my thing, wouldn’t go back again, but no complaints!

Mid i do not like the genre so much, but some part of some song is nice both the voice and some instrumenal bit, but mostly mid songs themes and boring developement

nice motown vibes

i like the guitar in summer breeze 3 + 3 = 3!

Decent album. Covers a bit spotty.

Enjoyed it, good album

Funky grove and some covers if those white boys seals and doobies

Some great catchy tunes. A few I didn’t know were these guys.

This album was fine. Just fine. A couple fun tracks but not particularly memorable. Also, I kinda hate the song Summer Breeze. It’s just so boring and brainless. And the fact that it’s not even an original song for the Isley Brothers bothers me even more. In the equation of my rating of this album, 3+3 = 3. 3/5 Highlights: That Lady (Pt 2) Sunshine (Go Away Today)

Ce n'était pas mauvais, mais la moitié de l'album sont des reprises qui ne vient rien rajouter à l'originale. C'est un bon petit moment, mais rien de mémorable ou de révolutionnaire sur cet album. 6/10

Good to listen to. I like the upbeat songs to dance to.

Don’t really like this style of music but it was pretty chill and I enjoyed the guitar. Rating: 3

While I didn’t love it, I enjoyed much of it and see why they were so influential.

In which we listen to Summer Breeze and some minor variants for far too long. By no means bad or unpleasant, but still quite pleasing when it had finished.

Smooth and funky.

Good album. Energy.

A very high 3. Almost a 4 but not quite.

Great old album that I've owned since new. Really good for snuggling. Fun Fact: The Isley Brothers gave Jimi Hendrix his first big break when they hired him as their guitar player.

A couple solid classics here on a good, tight funk/soul album.

Frequently wonderful though not necessarily the sort of thing I'll naturally reach for. +3 indeed

Pretty groovy! Overall good listen, just soooo long. I liked all songs a little, but few were amazing.

Straight from the beginning, I immediately went "I love myself!" - thank you, Kendrick. I really enjoyed the vibe of the album and the guitar playing is amazing. The comments say there was a rumor at the time that it was a posthumous recording of Hendrix, which of course makes perfect sense. However, apart of a few songs I liked, I found the rest of the album to be a bit underwhelming, which is a shame. Sadly, except for the first track and maybe Summer Breeze or The Highways of My Life (which were covers, so that lowers the impact a bit) there's not much to go back to. Still, it's great to fun to put it on during a road trip. 3/5

I skipped the single and special mix version in the given album on Spotify. It was a pretty good soul/funk album, albeit maybe a little strong on the "soul" part for me (I like upbeat music). The guitar work was really fun and something you'd very much expect in that era. The vocals were phenomenal as well, loved when the rest of the band would come in as background support. 3

Bits of funk, rock, R&B, and a preemptive splash of the disco era blend together to create a record that doesn’t blow me away, but stands as a consistently fun and distinctly ‘70s experience.

Good music

great album cover Solid album - easy listening, lotta soul

Funky fun 70s album. Some classic songs.

This was ok, but wouldn’t listen to again

Some classics summer breeze, that lady, maybe Isley bros

Recognised the big songs and the rest of it was a really nice listen

Fine. Lots of hits. Not really my thing

Whose that lady?! Listenable. Baby making music for sure!

nostalgia for some songs!

I can appreciate this on a certain level, but this wouldn't be my go-to kind of music. Still, there's not much I can actually find fault with, it's just that I don't get a whole lot of enjoyment from it.

3 Not bad. Inoffensive soul/funk. A few stand out songs but others not great 👍

-sort of reminds me of songs in the key of life at times. Very smooth and groovy I approve -Favorites are That Lady Pts. 1 and 2, Listen To The Music, and Summer Breeze Pts. 1 and 2

Solid, too smooth for me to really get into it. "Featuring That Lady" on the cover is so funny. To me this was perhaps the worst song, & repeated again at the end. But this is such a good little subtitle. It'd be perfect for some record with a heavy hitter. Janis Joplin guests. "Featuring that lady". that lady: featured. (⌐■_■)

😎🎸

Is good

Pretty standard funk/souly album. That lady and summer breeze are pretty cool songs!

Pretty good

That Lady is an absolute belter. The rest is OK.

Rad and funky, super fun to listen too.

A lot of great sad (but accepting) break up songs. Super funky beats all throughout the album. Listen to the music is a classic! The bass beginning to sunshine (go away) is *chefs kiss*, but I didn’t love the keys which came in later. All together a pretty solid funk album.

Funk/Soul, good but nothing incredible 6/10

Muito bom. Os tim maia da gringa. Excelentes guitarras, grooves e swings. Gostei bastante. Ouviria de novo.

Hot rhythms but not my cup od tea.

This album has a great feel to it. It did get a little tiring hearing very similar songs over and over. A lot of soul, a lot of funk. I skipped the last 3 songs as they are interviews... Overall, not my thing but I can respect aspects of what was going on.

Ну такое

Closer to a 3.5, some catchy songs.

The album is ok, decent funk sound. Slightly disappointing that two of the bigger tracks are covers from a year prior: Listen to the Music and Summer Breeze.

Was totally ready to give this album a great grade. But, it ended up being two great singles (one revisited a second time) and a lot ofnless memorable stuff.

I know that Eddie Murphy shrieking 'Sexual chocolate!' wouldn't exist without the Isley Brothers (and others) to parody, but Christ was it hard to push that image out of my head for some of these songs.

who that lady

Ronald Isley is the definition of butter when it comes to vocals. Dude is smooth as it gets! Good album but not my favorite from them, still some great tgracks though with the ever famous "That Lady" and a beautiful cover of Seals and Crofts' "Summer Breeze" and a fun take on The Doobie Brothers' "Listen To The Music". It's a good listen, but not sure if I'd call it a mandatory album. Overall, I give it 3/5

70s soul. OK, just not my thing.

Fav: Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2 Least Fav: If You Were There

I'm kind of blown away by how much of this music I've heard in other places.

I love finding the music that influenced my faves. it was funky, it was nice, but some wasn't as memorable. I did actually enjoy this a lot more than I thought I was going to, to be honest. 1.) summer breeze, pts. 1 & 2 2.) don't let me be lonely tonight 3.) the highways of my life

Perfect for a summer evening sat in the garden. Fantastic funky guitar solo on the opener, the classic ‘Who’s that lady’. Great vocals throughout. A high 3

Great album. If I had been born in the 1950's this is what I would have been listening to, not Slade, T-Rex or any of that stuff. Nothing bad to say about this.

Gooood upbeat jazzy soul vibes goin on here.

super catchy and a much wider variety of sound than i would have expected after having the song shout drilled into my head.

Didn’t realize so many of their songs were remade by other artists

Funky, fun album

3+3=3 Bit boring but also good here and there. Who's that lady tho?

Nice funk album, very entertaining. Some songs are a bit too cheesy though, but that was overall nice to listen to.

Eh, it was fine but covers just aren't my jam, and I didn't dislike but didn't like it. Cool artists and objectively good I suppose, but I didn't feel it outside from That Lady and that's only cuz of the Swiffer commercial from '07.

Better than I expected. One massive hit. The two cover songs were god. Plus there was some decent jamming on some of the others.

solid album. Lyrics sort of sounds like an incel wet dream, but generally a good grove

Nick Lowe said the Beatles ruined pop music, because after them everyone felt like they had to write their own songs. The tradition of covering songs is largely forgotten, it seems, and I like that the Isley Brothers covered songs from outside their genre.

Surprisingly recognisable.

Not 100% my thing. Feels a little cheeseball compared to some of the similar stuff I like. Mouse dug it :)

Quite good. I’d imagine this band was an inspiration to Prince, as they blend R&B with Rock & Roll.

This is ok. Not my usual but it had a vibe

OK, aber keineswegs überragend

Really enjoyed this, I need to listen to it again but I think it's a 3.

Nice songwriting/ good vibes.

This is an OK album - the musicianship is great, and the big songs are good, but it's not exciting, and I won't be listening to it again. Background music at best.

No m gusta mucho el soul, es increible q haya salido en el 73 esto, sunshine es un temon y alguno mas zafa, le pongo 3 estrellas mas q nada pq salio en el 73

I like the O'Jays a lot and I'm trying to figure out why I don't like this album as much. I think I like the voices in harmony?

Really great rhythm and bass lines throughout.

It was nice to have an album that wasn’t unpalatable or maudlin. Much as I don’t actively choose to listen to the Isley Brothers I recognised every song and the lyrics rose from a semi-dormant state in my subconscious. I think most of these songs have permeated the global subconscious anyway. It’s fairly comforting. 3 + 3 - 3 Woa-oh - listen to the music!

There were some standout passages on this album, and a couple of covers that made things fun, but there was something about this that felt stuck in neutral. The performances blend, each song has a similar sound—vocally, musically— it's like everything gets fed through the same grinder and you get an Isley. I really don't know anything about the band other than they've been around in some incarnation for an age, and I have a vague understanding that they are influential, but I wasn't swept away by magic on this listen.

Cool, though inessential. I did like their cover of Listen to the Music.

Pleasant and forgettable. The most memorable parts were the guitar solos, they were cool. Gee, 3 is too high, it feels...

Can't believe this album singlehandedly ended segregation

Undoubtedly a great feel good album evoking thoughts of sunny summer days chilling. A great album.

They really don’t make music like this any more. Which is such a daft thing to say … but they really don’t. Who is making silky soul jams for making sweet love to? No one. That aside your kicking off with Who’ that lady and finishing with Summer Breeze. So it’s hard to mess that up.

3’s all round. Simpsons: No

This was very pleasant listening. But not something I'd probably ever choose to listen to, so just three stars from me.

Threes all round, it's good but it kind of just melts into background music

there's nothing wrong with the isley brothers but certainly don't think they're the best of their genre.

Pretty good stuff.

Fun album

This is alright. At times a little too disco-y, at times a little too quiet stormy, at times a little too 70’s soft rocky, but overall not bad. The band sounds great but I wish they had stronger material to work with. Still not a bad album.

Favorite track: Listen to the Music

That Lady and Summerbreeze have some great distorted guitar. The second song is a slow ballad that I didn't like as much. The rest is pretty solid funk/soul. I gave this a few goes but there's not enough standouts for me to call it better than good.

clearly good! but not my cup of tea :(

I think I'm going soft for these funky albums boys. This album is another feel good, groovy record that is meaty and straight to the point. I love how much variety we get here- I can here the blues, I can hear Beatleseque pop as well- and whilst pulling from different influences, the album itself remains cohesive. Really love the opener here (Did Kendrick sample this?) and I also love Sunshine and Don't let me be lonely tonight.

Great music, but too many covers of songs I liked better by original artist.

Not for me

Dated. Still good. Did not know Jimi was in this group!

Some memorable ones on there.

Some super fun riffs and tunes but way too long, weird interview was weird and I swear it was just like three songs on repeat

3 + 3 = 3 (stars)

Wasn't bad, not a fan of the interview tracks

I enjoyed this. I like songs like That Lady where it’s some woman minding her own business and a man going Woaahhhh this lady is giving me a lob on, what a sexxxyyy laddyyy

Would be a 3.5 but the interviews. I like being able to listen to an interview about the album, but these were interwoven in an interesting manner. I think the music being mixed with it was smart, but it also seemed to take away from the overall thoughts. The instrumentals were good

it was a nice background listen. could have done without the 3 or 4 different remix/versions of same songs toward end of album

Good album, surprised at how many tracks I knew

Not my favorite genre, in fact I don’t like Disco at all. But I went in just listening to the lyrics, and it had some great songs :) not sure if I’d listen again, or even recommend, just cause I’m not a fan of the genre. But overall, it was a good album

Nice to hear all those covers of some of my favorite rock/folk artists done by a legendary RB band.

Kwalitatief sterk gezongen plaat vol ziel. Zo is Listen to the Music best prettig gezongen.

I don’t feel like this plays well if you listen to the entire thing straight through but it contained a few really good songs.

There’s a few classic songs on here.

Pretty good. Who's that lady a classic. Love the call and response. Ernie apparently was watching Hendrix a lot when he played with the boyz in the early 60s and it shows some hot psychedelic (not over/misusing this as so often seen) guitar leads here.

Would not have been something I normally gravitate towards, but a very easy and fun listen. I always find soul to be so relaxing. Top tracks: That Lady Pts 1&2, Summer Breeze Pts 1&2, The Highways of My Life

A lot of covers (4/9 songs?) but I enjoyed them well enough.

Some good stuff there, but not my cup of tea.

I love the Isley Bros - they are great players and I bet they put on a helluva show back in the day - but the songwriting is a bit inconsistent on here.

A fun listen, although I have no idea if this is one of their greats, or just another solid album? It's certainly quite a progression from their days of "Shout" or even "Testify", and I particularly enjoyed this album's version of "Listen to the Music", as well as the great opening bass (and track) on "Sunshine". And nice that they added a few more brothers to the Isley clan with this album!

Solid funk and soul record by a legendary group.

Wow, fantastic, soup to nuts 🤯

#160. Some pretty good stuff on here. I dig it. Some pretty solid covers too. 3/5: yah

O funk é muito bom, as partes da entrevista são legais mas não o meu estilo

Its extremely fun to know the studio versions of all these songs having absolutely face melting guitar parts left off the singles.

Would be rated higher but was not a fan of the interview in the middle - 6/10

A prototype 70's soul album with no flaws. I don't find the music particularly moving so I can't rate it any higher, but it deserves its accolades.

Enjoyed the album.

Decent A few classics on here. 3.1

Fun & funky. Didn’t like all the songs.

It’s not my favourite style of music but I’d need a brain of stone to listen to the music on breezy, summery numbers like Listen to the Music and Summer Breeze and not receive a sweet dopamine hit. Also, great to learn that they are actually brothers. No idea why I thought it was just a name… 3.5

Not bad, the songs that I have heard are pretty good but the others are just alright. Might listen to this again if I am in the mood for summer breeze

Lange nicht gehört - ein vergnügliche Scheibe. Aufmunternd.

Summer Breeze is a lovely song (at least the first time it appeared on this album), but the rest was in the best that 70’s soul has to offer

Great guitar but not sure I’d listen to again. Recognized many songs

Great album. Starts off going ham and carries it throughout. Odd with the different remixes/radio versions and interviews being included on the album though. What I thought was an interlude ended up being a 6 minute interview. Either way, original songs that have been heavily covered mixed in with covers. Good stuff.

p311. 1973. 3.5 stars. Quality early 70s soul, let down by filler, redundant covers and the usual 70s excessive wankage - but when it's good, it's brilliant. Ernie Isley is an unsung guitar legend, and Summer Breeze may be one of the greatest songs ever.

Im not a fan of soul music. I don't own a single soul album, nor do I actively seek out soul music elsewhere. However, I quite enjoyed this album. All the songs were good, no skippers, however only "Summer Breeze" was really great, which makes it a solid 3/5. Positively surprised!

it was a vibe for sure, but I don't think I'm gonna listen again. Stroong 3

Decent album, and was pleasantly surprised to see where the sample for Kendrick Lamar's "i" comes from. I don't think this is a worldbeater, but it has some nice grooves. Best Songs: That Lady, Summer Breeze Worst Songs: Sunshine

The up-tempo funk/RnB stuff with a full band is great, lots of intricate interlocking parts, Stevie-Wonder level textures/instrumetnation and loads of melodic energy - they jam some of the songs out with a borderline psychadelic flavor to go with the James Brown style rave-up. Their covers really bring their own thing to enliven what are originally some pretty bland soul RnB pap. Fuzzy wahwah guitars over basically a disco song is a surprisingly good combination, I'd never heard the full version of That lady, but it rips! Same for What it Comes Down To & Sunshine & Summer Breeze. The slow smooth ballads are kind of nauseating though - needs some acidic tang to go with the molasses!

3 + 3 = 3 stars! *** I do not expect to be the first to make this joke or the last. Record was fine, plenty funky.

This was quite good.

Agradable, sin más.

Too much funk!

Interesting to hear familiar songs done differently!

3 + 3 = 3

Funky af. Fav songs that lady and summer breeze
