Reviews (page 11 of 12)

could i write poetry to this? n

Suprising appearances of Seals & Crofts and James Taylor songs. Still, it's got a hip soul & funk style that is fun. I think Summer Breeze is probably my favorite, though it's all pretty polished and easily approachable. No major bangers, but enjoyable soul groove.

The Isley Brothers 3+3 album is a solid album from the late 70's disco era, full of good songs. What jumps out at me is the solid guitar playing and solos, wow! I have never listened to an Isley Brothers album but I can say that I have heard 4 of these songs before. Really good album!

Their 11th album. Wow. Enjoyable. A lot of covers. Some great guitar solos.

Crazy that they sampled Kendrick on track 1! How did they go into the future like that? Lots of great stuff here but some not so great stuff too.

Pretty easy to listen to, funky and upbeat, I liked it.

Not bad not something I would have seeked out.

70’s and 80’s sound at its best. Talented group.

Appropriate album title for a solid 3 ratings. Some great songs, some mediocre songs, some cover songs.

that lady pt 1 and 2- whys it got parts anyway. im probably not gonna listen to this whole. probably wont even make it halfway. 7. whooos that lady. the guitar solo is pretty cheesy but it prolly wasnt cheesy at the time. dont let me be lonely tonight- slower. its nice i like the piano. 6. just a tad bit boring. if you were there- ummm yeah. its music. 5 you walk your way- um forgot music was playing. 5 or 6. the piano is good. listen to the music- yeah its funky. um. 6 what it comes down to- its whatever. 5 im tired

pretty cool. nothing i'd listen to but cool

Sound was ok but lots of covers. I prefer the originals.

Fun record! Their cover of Taking it to the Streets is pretty amazing. But not really enough for me in any one direction. Its almost a lot of things like a funk record, or a soul record, or an RnB record, but doesn't fully commit to being more of one of those categories than the other. So it comes off as sort of milquetoast to me.

funky, a bit samey, but enjoyable

Some fun grooves, but nothing too memorable for me

Funky…. 7.5/10 Faves- That lady, Sunshine, Summer breeze

This album starts strong with a pop sensation even a three minute guitar solo can't ruin, but I think after that track the album mellows out a bit and tends to lean more towards being just alright. I mean, the nice, Summer-y vibes are all there, but sometimes the tracks get too smooth, and you start to forget you're listening to music to pay attention to. I suppose that's the point of these funky tunes at points, but I wouldn't mind something a tad more engaging. Light years ahead of its time in its soulfulness, however, and for that it earns some major ups for me. Plus, riding that high of the first track really can carry the whole album in the right mood.

Nice soul

I have to kick it off by saying that album cover sets a stage. Nice vibe from the get go. Some good funk but honestly I liked it a bit less than I expected. It grabbed me strong and diminished the longer I listened. Good album for sure, but not the best.

This is more than your straight forward R&B funk album. Lie great things going on cover songs that actually improve upon the original

Lots of covers, but really pleasant.

Доста добри като музика, ама надали ще си ги пускам

A couple of brilliant songs that everyone knows, and then, sadly, a bunch of nice, generic songs that would fit nicely into a 'bland FM' radio station.

It felt like feel good music and was nice listening

Summer breeze Light funky vibes

Love the Isley’s

"3 + 3" by The Isley Brothers is a musical journey that seamlessly blends soul, funk, and rock into a rich and dynamic tapestry. As a listener who enjoys a variety of genres, this album offers a refreshing and engaging experience. The Isley Brothers' fusion of styles creates a sound that feels both timeless and innovative. The opening track, "That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2," sets the tone with its infectious grooves and Ernie Isley's iconic guitar riffs. The album maintains a high energy throughout, making it a good choice for those moments when you want to get up and move. The incorporation of rock elements alongside soul vocals adds a layer of complexity that keeps each track interesting and unpredictable. The smooth and soulful vocals of Ronald Isley are a feature, bringing a sense of warmth and emotion to every song. Tracks like "Summer Breeze" and "Hello It's Me" showcase the band's ability to deliver ballads with a timeless appeal. The cover of Todd Rundgren's "Hello It's Me" is well-executed, adding The Isley Brothers' signature touch to a classic. From the funk-infused "Fight the Power, Pts. 1 & 2" to the mellow vibes of "Sunshine (Go Away Today)," there's a range of musical styles. The transitions between genres speak to the band's ability to push boundaries.

Nice and funky, 3/5.

Didn’t realize there were this many covers. Still, it’s the Isleys. It’s good.

Enjoyable to work to. I dug the cover of “Listen to the Music.”

Previously rated, but I didn't make notes.

Just a pretty average funk album. I’m pretty indifferent on this genre, and there wasn’t much on this album to really wow me. 6/10 Top 3: 1. Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight 2. The Highways of My Life 3. Sunshine (Go Away Today)

挺好听的但确实not my type,当背景音很顺滑地听完了

Decent album, fun listen.

Perfectly enjoyable R&B. Didn't really rock my world.

There’s some decent covers on here, and the hit songs still sound pretty good, but the rest of it was just kinda ‘meh’ for me. Sometimes you don’t know the rest of an album for a reason. That reason being that the other songs are just okay.

Next 5 songs played by my Spotify Algorithm: The Delfonics - Ready or Not Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - (Love is Like a) Heat Wave The Staple Singers - Respect Yourself Bill Withers - Lovely Day Jerry Butler - Hey, Western Union Man

Este disco me sorprendió. Tiene varios hits que había escuchado y reconocía, pero nunca habían asociado con ellos.

This was a creative and artistic set of songs, while still being a fun listen. I think I have heard multiple other songs sample this tracks. The melodies felt familiar. I don't think you should have 2 or 3 versions of a song on the same album though. It kind of took away from the back half of it. Favorite track was the highways of my life

pretty good a little short

Like the Isley Bothers. Heard some of the songs, but not the whole album. Good listen

The guitar tone on “That Lady” is amazing. I could do without the extended solo that lasts for minutes without saying anything new, although I suppose if I were playing it, I too would want to live in that fuzz. Learning that this was recorded in the same studio and at the same time as Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions, I must say I prefer Stevie’s brand of soul to this—though I’ll admit I’m no expert on soul. The cover songs are interesting, but none are improvements on the originals. Overall, I find the album to be fine, but nothing is particularly exciting or memorable to me. And Ronald Isley sounds like if Bon Scott joined a soul band instead of AC/DC. Top Tracks: “That Lady, Part 1” and “If You Were There” I give a 3 to 3 + 3.

Summer Breeze and That Lady are the obvious standouts But there's little wrong with the rest of it even if it is several notches below those crackers

Easy listening, woyld listen again.

R&B, some psychelic hold over, some covers. decent. 3.4

- didn’t realize Kendrick sampled the first song - melodies are nice and I like the acoustic production - not really my kind of music but I can see how others would like it - not quite groovy or interesting enough for me to listen to again

That Lady- 3.7/5 Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight- 4.2/5 If You Were There- 3.5/5 You Walk Your Way- 4.4/5 Listen to the Music- 3.4/5 What It Comes Down To- 3.7/5 Sunshine (Go Away Today)- 4.3/5 Summer Breeze- 3.8/5 The Highways of My Life- 3.7/5 Total- 3.4/5

Who’s that lady is a classic. Some memorable cover songs. Overall very good but not mind blowing

I'm ok with this album.

Funky, slightly interesting, dont like the vocals

Knew a few songs. Nice easy listening overall.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: yeah, a nice familiar feel with this one Favourite song: Summer Breeze, Pts 1 & 2

Lots of slow dance music, singing talent is very apparent Very chill album, not exactly my cup of tea tho

Fun vibe like passionate sappy romantic

That's that good stuff

= 3, hip though

6/10 Classic 70s soul/rb not bad Fav song: whos that lady

Brani Preferiti: - "Summer Breeze" - "If You Were There" Note: Un disco sicuramente apprezzato dal giusto pubblico.

Becomes a bit repetitive

[insert Anchorman joke here] Mmmmhm. Just let that phased out guitar take you away. Yeah this record has some sexy bits for sure. Its hit is the best track, and unfortunately right up front. But it’s still worth listening to for the fantastic soul/funk production.

This was a bit of a surprise for me. First, I don’t think I’d ever listened to them much before other that the hits (Inreally enjoyed the album). Second, I didn’t realize there were so many of them. Third, I didn’t realize they were so prolific. I think I saw them live at University one time too

Nice. I wonder why they have that pattern of having two parts to a song. Didn't know they covered Listen To The Music and Summer Breeze. That Lady is a banger. + That Lady + Listen To The Music + Sunshine (Go Away Today) + Summer Breeze + The Highways of My Life

I can hear it's good stuff, but not my taste exactly

The LP gets off to a great start, with “Who’s that Lady”, which I've always liked, especially the guitar work – rhythm and solo. But after that great lead-off, the syrupy James Taylor cover really knocks the wind out of its sails. Other than the opener, the self-penned tracks aren’t too inspiring and I’ve never been crazy about an LP over-reliant on covers, though Summer Breeze is well done. Listening to ‘Listen to the Music”, I’m reminded that Doobie Brothers never made it onto the 1001 list.

This is more soul than funk, That Lady is a fine song, and there are some decent covers here. Unfortunately there are also some shmaltzy tracks on here too. If this album has a bit more funky edge I would have enjoyed it more, but I’m sure it was a crowd pleaser back in the day due to its mainstream appeal

Cool record. Kind of amazing to listen to this vs. other stuff that was going on in 1973. It's hard to give it a rating. Definitely a record that is of its time and yet also something that paved the way for a lot of other bands.

Probably a 3.5 but I thought it just never quite reached the heights of the first track

Another solid album. Not much to say other than I think it's cool how the album feels like it needs to be listened to in it's entirety to get the full experience.

Groooovy

Fun album to listen to. Think the opener and Summer Breeze overshadow the rest of the tracks with their slick guitar work and jam sections, but that might just be my own taste and biases. The album flys by though, great basslines and grooves throughout. Definitely one i'll be throwing on for some more listens in the future, where the other tracks might start to stand out more. But it's a high 3 for now.

i liked the first songs, very vibes and soul, but they lost me in the interview parts.

Feel good funk/soul album.

Silky smooth

Tosi vahva kakkonen, tai ehkä heikko kolmonen? Kallistun jälkimmäiseen, koska tämähän on oikein taitavaa perusfunkia. That lady on tuttu diskolattioilta tietenkin ja erinomainen

Started as a jam then got kinda annoying

Not horrible. Not amazing. Solid album. A 3 for 3+3

Ihan smooth & cool soulfunk! 3/5

Toimii, kivalla tavalla positiivinen. Ei mitään suurimpia funk/soul-suosikkeja kuitenkaan. Sanoisin tasan 3,5/5 ja kolikko kääntyy nyt kolmoseen.

nice grooves

It's funky. Definitely a reasonably good album with a few great songs. That Lady is a "cover" of their own song, but this is the version that got more famous (and it's better than the original). Summer Breeze and Listen to the Music are also covers of other bands' songs. A couple of the songs are titled Parts 1 & 2 and Part 2 is typically a funky instrumental that goes on a little longer than is necessary. It's a good funk album with a few high highs and the rest perfectly ok. Favorite song: Listen to the Music Others: That Lady, Summer Breeze, The Highways of My Life

Just alright

Great album, heard a lot of this before without realizing it

Alright, nice and funky. I didn’t realize some of these songs were from the same people who did Shout. Not particularly memorable though.

smoooothishhh

Strong funk rock album with distinctive guitars. This band are a bit of blind spot in my musical knowledge but would listen again.

sunshine, summer breeze

They are quite good at crafting this blend of rock and soul, but it’s just not my thing.

The MF Isley Brothers!!!! Holyyyy shit. Funk hippies. Amazing. Listen to the Music, What it Comes Down To. Always known the name, never knew what songs were theirs. My bad. Fucking amazing. Cat: Voices smooth as butter. Classic, legendary songwriting. So much soul.

I'm surprised to be a little disappointed. After That Lady, I didn't hear much I was interested in. The covers are mostly a let down. Summer Breeze works for me though. The guitarist is definitely the highlight of the album.

Surprisingly good

Pretty good

Ok so that's where that Beastie Boys sampling comes from

I wonder why it's featured here, but it's an overall nice and smooth funk album. Nothing that hurts, nothing noticeable.

it wasn't bad, but i didn't want to finish it

Easy listening, appears to have inspired several Hip Hop artists because I recognized a couple references!

Couple of serious bangers, lots of filler. Amazing suits

I have sudden urge to procreate.

Aw yeah, that opening riff is sick and just puts you on notice that you are about to go deep down in a funk hole straight to the center of funky town. And we all know this first song because it was in commercials for makeup for years and years. Oh, track 2, better known by me for the James Taylor version on his Greatest Hits album. This one just pulls the rug out from under me. It started raining. Oh no, those are my lonely tears. Track 3 and oh thank God, I'm trying my eyes and we're back in funkytown with those sick keys and harmonies. It's pretty obscure and let's be honest, the lyrics aren't great. Listen to the Music is an interesting and arguably better cover of the Doobie Brothers song because it cuts out the southern twang of the original. Highways of My Life was the worst track and I was definitely soaking up a few pats of blood from my ears. Summer Breeze is that other track we've all heard a million times on the radio. I never liked it much then and I'm not sold on it today. If I were to register a complaint it would be the one I have for a lot of funk. Sometimes there is a disconnect between the vocals and the music. When it's right, it's so good but there are times where the vocals drift off the rhythm or it gets over-syncopated a bit and things don't mesh well-- especially when the vocals are at a way slower tempo than the music.

Best song, That Lady Parts (1&2) .... speaking of lady parts, isn't Summer's Breeze a popular douche? Never been much of a doucher, but I'm pretty sure that's a douche.

"That Lady" is a great way to start an album, but "3 + 3" doesn't really keep up the energy or momentum. The standouts after "That Lady" were the covers of "Listen to the Music" and "Summer Breeze." The latter grabbed my attention quickly (in part because I have a soft spot for the song due to the remix from drum 'n' bass DJ Aphrodite), but I really like the guitars on the Isley Brothers version. However, the song didn't quite hold it's early momentum through to the end, much like this album as a whole.

Loved the “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely” cover!

I enjoyed this album quite a bit. Even more once I saw the track listing that the album is 37 min and not the 77 min I thought going in. I’m happy I didn’t listened to all those bonus cuts. The guitar is singing high. If it were a Transformers character, it would be GuitarScream. Despite this, I’m ready to conclude that my ceiling for funk is about a 3.5, where this album lies. Funk just isn’t my thang.

Several well known songs. I enjoyed it. I would listen to it again.

R and B sounds. Forerunners of music for over 2 or 3 decades. Used synthesizers and experimental funky sounds, which never appealed to me. The straight Rhythm and blues was awesome and copied for generations with the falsetto voices. Liked the piano but not the use of organ sounds or that "shaft" sounding percussion instrument. Hendricks played with them for a time before he broke out as a artist on his own.

So godamn funky i dropped my coffee cup

Some good stuff, some terrible stuff. Hard to give anything but a 3

A weird mix of love music for the ancient and decrepit and absolute bangers. Some of the soppy numbers were so unlistenable for my rough gruff grizzled boxer ears that I've only rated this three, despite having a lovely sing along.

Enjoyed it. Summer Breeze, makes me feel fine... 3.5

Cool listen! Probably would never reach for it, but no complaints either.

Can't hate the Isley Bros. Their best songs aren't on this album, though.

3/9, 33%

Easy listening funk/ R&B Flow of the album is good, but no song stands out Feels very generic

gran disco mega sampleado en el rap dd los noventa e incluso de los 2010s

got more hits than John Lennon got in on his wife.

3.5 Enjoyed it, but made me want to listen to something like the Family Stone instead

Cool feel-good funky soul music Favorite was Summer Breeze Giving it a 3/5 because I probably don’t care to hear it again

Like the Isley Brothers!

Some classics on here

Worth it just for Summer Breeze.

Not bad. I actually didn't think I would like this, but it's a nice mix of chill and engaging. Probably a little too subdued for me to revisit with any regularity, but I'm still a sucker for a good guitar solo. Standouts: That Lady Pts 1&2, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze Pts. 1 & 2

Bumping it up from 2.5 to 3 for Summer Breeze only. It's perfectly okay-ish album with good instrumentals and fairly neutral vocals (nothing too annoying). Pleasant but not very memorable. This is probably a good album for sampling though. Might be also good for background music. Best song: Summer Breeze (Great piano and guitar work, most memorable song on the album personally) Worst song: The Highways of my Life (For being a weak closing song. Winds up for too long. Album could end just with Summer Breeze).

Not my favorite style of music, but not bad. You can sort of hear the beginnings of disco here. 3 stars.

Safe to say, "That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2" is some kind of preternatural phenomenon. It's also too short by at least four times. Back on earth, the Isley's bring the soup like a six-man butler in the buff party, and I'm happy to slurp it up.

pretty good

makes three

Well, maybe it's not a bad album, but at the same time nothing really stood out to me, I could listen to it in the background while doing something else, but not deliberately.

An absolutely great funky soul album. Lady is a classic and some of the other songs on this are pretty solid covers. The album is a bit long but overall all of the songs are pretty good. The way they cover some of these classic sounds is innovative and cool. Definitely would revisit most songs on this one. 7.5/10

Fun, but just doesn't quite click. Some good songs and unique covers though.

Pannaan yks +3 till. Hyvä levy

A lot of five star sections of this album but I think my overall enjoyment was not especially high. 3.5 stars

Not as out and out funky as Sly and the Family Stone, but similar to Stevie Wonder's funk and soul of the same era (makes sense now that I read they recorded at the same time and studio as "Innervisions" and shared synth gurus). Enjoyable guitar soloing in the two enormous singles. 3.5

Ok I look into my crystal ball and predict this is r&b / funk. lol yep. Pretty catchy, first song was a real banger. Slowed down in places, covers meh, lyrics exactly the sort of mush you'd expect, but still overall kinda fun. 3 + 3 = 3/5.

3.5ish

This album cover is everything! They are our sartorial overlords. I hope they went out together after the photo shoot to paint the town red and blow some minds. Good and funky, I enjoyed Sunshine particularly. I'm not completely on board that I needed to hear this album before I die, but I don't mind, it was perfectly enjoyable, including the covers.

the first song is the sample for kendrick's "i" soulful which is cool but its also a lot of covers that don't really add to the og

Cracking album

not bad

This is a solid album. The production is top notch but the actual songs are just a little bland. They feel almost too crisp to me

This kind of soul/funk music is more to my liking than other of it’s genre

A couple original hits a too many covers

Decent covers of so of the best hits of the era. Solid music and lyrics

Starts off really strong with Who’s That Lady. Not much else really grabs me, but at the same time, there’s no bad song in this album. Vocal performances are well done and the funk grooves are super cool. Going between 3 and 4 here, but short a couple more standout tracks for the higher rating.

listen

Decent, funky

3 (that rubbery guitar) + 3 (the rest of the band)

Its ok, nothing to text your mates about

This soul album

I'd give it a 6.6

Agradable, sin más. 3

Had no idea they covered JT's Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight. I LOVED IT. Another cover w/ Sunshine (Go Away Today) - I've only ever heard the Jonathan Edwards version.

Came into it with low expectations, but was surprisingly really enjoyable. A few bangers, and the rest were all enjoyable.

Some good stuff on here. Need to be in the mood for it

Some fun funk. Not my favourite funk on the list but still enjoyable

Some good tunes

Easy listening

Man, I usually get more into the early 70s soul but these guys were clearly heading down a more pop-soul path that got real ugly by the end of the decade. It's not bad, it's just not as good as some of their contemporaries.

Smooth music without being annoyingly sweet.

Very cool music. Groovin' bass, funky hammond organ, great guitar riffs. This stuff has been sampled by every hip-hop producer out there. Stand out tracks: Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze, That Lady.

Sequência agradável de soul que mostra a origem de pelo menos dois hits reconhecidos.

Great harmonies. Fun to listen to.

pretty good r&b!

I saw allmusic give 5 stars, but the hits are new for me,just feel the vibe,it's 70's!

Summerbreeze is such a great song. I didn't know they had a cover of it. The whole album is great and I'm glad to have listened to it. Who's The Lady is the obvious song from the album. I'll definitely come back to this album and listen to more of their discography.

While I was familiar with the Isley brothers, I had not previously listened to this album. I didn’t know they covered the doobie brothers, I enjoyed that (listen to the music), along with that lady 💕, lonely tonight, and summer breeze.

Classic souls and songs, really some nice covers also!

So that's where that electric guitar sample on Beastie Boys' "B Boy Bouillabaisse" and Kendrick Lamar's "I" came from! Nice. Such a distinctive sound. But it's not the only ingredient that makes this recipe of "That Lady" right, since the five minutes of this groovy opener fly by without you noticing the song was that long. The sixties Isley Brothers are long gone by now, here comes a funkier version of them, and that version makes sparks on this first track. Too bad this was not the case with the useless James Taylor cover that follows that great opener. Gosh, is he a bland songwriter at times--my best guess is that the inclusion of this boring ballad was a way for the Isley Brothers to make a commercial point and reassure their label after the change of sound implied by the inclusion of three new family members into the band. But maybe they did genuinely like this dud of a song, who knows? Eh, nobody's perfect, I guess. Fortunately, things pick up nicely with the next two tracks, "If You Were There" and "You Walk Your Way". The first is especially impressive with its rolling rumble upon the bass toms, nicely contrasting with the sweet and longing feelings displayed in the rest of the vocals and instrumentation--including that ARP synthesizer already used to great effects by Stevie Wonder in "Superstition" the year before. Apparently, The Isley Brothers shared the same studio with Stevie for this record (he was recording the seminal *Innervision* while they were working on *3+3*). All those accomplished musicians must have had very interesting conversations while they were there. Closing side one is a cover of the Doobie Brothers' "Listen To the Music". Odd that the bass line on the original slaps harder than in here (but Tiran Porter was indeed a killer bass player, so I guess it's hard to reach his level anyway). It's still a great cover, though, thanks to those ARP synth flourishes. Opening side two is "What It Comes Down To", a rather convincing track, in the vein of Al Green and Stevie Wonder, once again. The drums are still doing that sort of rollicking thing they did on "If You Were There", and their rumble is good enough that you're happy to hear the band use that trick again. Next is another cover, "Sunshine (Go Away Today)", this time from an obscure folk-rock singer named Jonathan Edwards. By all means, listen to the original, because The Isley Brother had a lot of fun completely turning it on its head. Their version is far more adventurous and enticing than Edward's one--the vocals are especially effective--and there's even that weird synth glissando west coast gangta rap would pillage two decades later. And after this is... another cover, " Summer Breeze", once again by another fashionable soft rock act from those days, Seals And Crofts, admittedly far more more obscure in 2022. Unfortunately, and contrary to "Sunshine", the original is in this case the superior version, The Isley Brothers finding themselves unable to bring anything interesting or worth noticing in their own rendition. Besides, it's a little too easy to cover so many hits from the year before in an album, a habit that was not frowned upon yet during the sixties, but that quickly looked suspicious in the decade that followed. If by this point, you're starting to lose interest in this overlong review, this might not be so bad, because I also lost interest in the record myself in the middle of side two. I therefore don't have much to say about closer "The Highways Of My Life", this short ballad being an original composition by the band that doesn't say much either, whether it is musically or lyrically. All in all not a bad album, even if it's quite patchy, hit-or-miss for me. I can see why it had such an influence on other musicians--the already famous Isley Brother following the footsteps of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder when the latter gave up mellow stuff in favor of harder grooves. But I'd rather go to those household names first when it comes to that overall genre... Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 832 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory: 91 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 42 (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 36

Things kick off on a high note with “That Lady, Parts 1&2”, a rockin’ slab of funk propelled by a phased out, fuzzy guitar lead. It’s no coincidence this song was chosen as an opener, you can tell it’s a hit from the opening guitar riff. However, immediately after, the album veers into more traditional mid-tempo R&B territory for the next 3 tracks. It’s kind of a jarring change of pace. The songs are not bad, but the difference in energy between That Lady and these tracks is palpable. The pace picks up again with a funky, clavinet heavy cover of the Doobie Brothers “Listen to the Music”, “What It Comes Down To”, and the dark and funky “Sunshine (Go Away Today)”. A cover of Seals and Croft’s “Summer Breeze” turns up next. Like “That Lady”, it’s noted as “Parts 1&2” which really just means they’re going to stretch out the groove at the end and give us some more of that sweet, sweet fuzz guitar. Unfortunately, that section of the doesn’t last quite long enough and the song begins fading out about a minute before it should’ve. “The Highways of My Life” a laid back, soulful tune ends the record well, but I can’t help feel like this record could’ve been greater. When the band leans into a slightly more aggressive style of play and dips their toes in psychedelia, they’re at their best on 3+3, imo. Fittingly, a “3” out of 5.

Not bad. Nothing memorable.

Estilo guitarrero setentero, con buena voz y buenas canciones. No destacan especialmente, pero se dejan escuchar

Shoutout Kendrick Lamar.

3.5 Really looking forward to this one. First thought was “why am I thinking of mops?” My second thought was “the drums are on fire holy crap”. Soul/funk never disappoints when it comes to the rhythm section. This album almost makes The Doobie Brothers and Seals & Croft sound cool. The vocals are also great with all the range of emotions displayed, paired with some super cooool harmonies. The slower love songs are a little cheesy and boring but all in all I can see myself coming back to a lot of this album l Stand-outs: Swiffer Commercial Song pts. 1&2, If You Were There, You Walk Your Way, The Highways of My Life

Probably the definitive version of ‘Summer Breeze’, and generally lot more fuzzy guitars and psychedelic rock vibes within a soul/RnB framework then I expected. Overall though, a pleasant if mostly unspectacular album.

Great funk album really enjoyed this.

chill but very very repetitive. 3

I did not get what I expected after looking at the cover. I was ready for funk and got weird roots rock. Anyway, it was OK

Instrumental Solos are sometimes to long and drawn out but still cool. Good tempo and beats and give a good feeling with most songs. Lyrics are usually pretty good but could sometimes be better. Would be nice for a couple songs with a little more energy with them.

Listening to the interview, I was intrigued to hear that Jimi Hendrix played with them for a while. Look up Testify parts 1 & 2 on YouTube, also features James Brown I think. A lot more soul that this record which was OK as background, but overall felt a bit flat to me

Pretty funky but not the sort of thing I can really get into.

Fine, namesake gives away uts score

This is a good time top to bottom. Love the production on this, even though some songs don't really grab me. At worst, this is great background music.

It's niiiiiiiiice it's smooooooth. I like it when he said 'sexy sexxy lady'

Enjoyable.

It’s ok. I really don't like the remakes of Listen to the Music or Summer Breeze. Those are just to iconic for me to enjoy anyone singing them. The rest is pretty good though. 3/5

Funky fresh,it was alright

nice but bit dull

This brought me back to my childhood as this style of music was in heavy rotation on one of the two modern music radio stations we got in town. Not my favorite back then or now, but as my dad used to say “ You don’t know what you love, you love what you know”. Some really good guitars - especially on the Seals and Crofts cover of “Summer Breeze”. Better than a three , but not close enough to round up.

Some great tunes here.

Good & easy listening album…. Back to the 70’s

What an album. I was looking at the tracklist before I listened wondering if it was a cover album with Listen to the Music, Sunshine Go Away, and Summer Breeze. And now googling I realize that those are covers mostly which makes me feel a little better since I liked the originals better. These weren't bad but I think the only OG I had heard was That Lady but I'm reading even that was a cover too.

Breezy and cool. Faves: That Lady, Summer Breeze.

Лёгкий альбом, прикольный, но мне не запомнился. Но жанр соул - это для меня.

Notable songs I recognized

Faith and no more

Decent motownie stuff…. Not much to say! 3+3=3*

nice funk album. good for easy listening

Strong start with "Who's that Lady" but the rest of the album was, dare I say, boring. Could see it hitting me different in another mood or context. The "Summer Breeze" cover was deeply inferior to the original and should have been left on the cutting room floor.

I want to like this more than I do but it really does sound like a group on their 11th album; struggling to redefine and update their sound. My favorite thing on the album is the guitar work, especially that fuzzy phaser tone.

Oh shit I do know "That Lady", didn't think I knew any of this group. Overall some nice funk but beyond That Lady it didn't grab me as much as I wanted. I can see people disagreeing though.

Lovely sound of summer soul. Classic singles "That Lady" & "Summer Breeze" are classic sunny afternoon in the garden music. These are great soul songs of the 70's throughout. took me back to my youth! Rightfully on this list I believe

Good funky and soul album. Definitely some good songs

Nice funk.

I listened to this on Friday, I'm rating it on Monday and I just had to scrub through quickly to remember anything about it, so I guess it's not the most memorable album. Musically pretty good though.

Les toms sur If You Were There sont agaçant par contre.

Liked a few, found it all very listenable.

Good, had no idea how many versions of summer breeze there were.

This project has introduced me to a lot of great soul albums that I haven't previously heard. This one doesn't really click for me, unfortunately. I've never been a big fan of That Lady, and the rest of the album didn't do anything for me either.

More of a summer album. It’s ok, better than the cover suggested.

Very pleasant

Summer Breeze - Another example of a five star song on a three star album. Rolling through the jasmine in my mind is one of the most evocativley beautiful lyrics I've come across in this list to date. Fricken excellent lead break too. Shame the rest of the album doesn't hold up.

This was an a-okay listen. For how much after it sounds like this album, it's so difficult to think of a timeline without the Isley Brothers.

3, it's fine

Listened Before? N Great, mellow stuff. I've heard individual songs before but never the whole album. This was a nice listen. Added to Library? N Song added to Playlist: Summer Breeze (1&2)

2/14/21 Good vibes. Enjoyed it. Liked it more until I found out about multiple songs being covers, that kinda upsets me. For that reason I’m out (of giving a 4) Favorite: Listen to the Music

* Few skips, some great tunes.

Of course I've heard of this group, but I am not super familiar with their music. It sounds like they know how to play, but this album just doesn't work for me. It all sounds too restless, too busy. So unfortunately, 3 stars is the best I can do.

Not my fave but yeah good

good background music but had trouble getting into it

Fun and funky. Love me some soul.

Really good funky sound

Very decent

The ise have it

Sounds exactly how you expect it to. Good representation of 70s soul.

Leuke soulplaat. Weinig over op te merken

Who's That Lady slaps. Some of the covers are smooth as hell. Others seem like they took the sheet music and plugged it into a funk rock Chuck E Cheese band. It's the longer jams that really do it for me. If they jammed out a 15 minute Lady I'd be in heaven. B

Songs you've heard a bit, voice gets a bit tiresome

I like this album a lot in terms of its composition and sound, but it's hard for me to give it the score I feel like it deserves because most of the songs on the album appear to be covers. This wouldn't be so bad if they weren't covers of very popular songs. The Isley Brothers do a great job of making the songs sound good and fit into the context of the album (Sunshine is a good example of this), but either including more original work or highlighting less popular songs by other groups would have been better 3/5

well, fine

good album, not gonna enter heavy rotation but enjoyed it

Surprisingly good! Actaully enjoyed it for the most part

Pretty good stuff. Good mix of funk, R&B, and just grooveyness. But, the best songs are covers. So a bit of a knock there for lack of originality.

A few classics on here. Easy listening

Funky and upbeat, a nice change! I liked Summer Breeze especially.

Such an easy listen. Enjoyed this one.

Nice album, some songs are too repetitive/boring for me. Favorite tracks are That Lady, Sunshine, and Summer Breeze

3/5 not so bad, but no.

it was okay, i did enjoy the covers but also i didn’t think it was anything i’d never heard before. i loved the voices and i loved the sound but it didn’t really stick out to me.

Groovy! It starts off with a really nice pace and it never lets go. Recommended.

3/5 Album. Pretty charismatic vocalist. Songs with an organ part or an active baseline are fun to listen to. Eclectic sonic quality

As smooth as butter. Can almost guarantee at least three children were conceived while this album was being played.

Awesome music. Thanks for the memories!

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

I've seen this billed as "Funk", but it's more "Soul". A bit of wah-wah, falsetto at the right times, some fret-hand muting etc., but I really miss the horns. Not a trumpet in sight!

Boterzachte soul, best lekker.

Very funky, "That Lady" is familiar and heard it in some movies. Rest of album is alright. 6/10.

Overly jammy on some tracks, but the tip-top arrangements, production, and guitar tones compensate to make for a mostly enjoyable album.

1 - 5.5/10 2 - 5/10 3 - 5.5/10 4 - 6/10 5 - 6/10 6 - 6/10 7 - 7/10 8 - 5.5/10 9 - 6.5/10 resto sao demos e singles decent 2.5/5

bun pt o plimbare feel good in buc ceva ce s ar asculta intr un restaurant gen balls the way i see it if you were there si you walk your way fade really nicely into eachother (another proof you should listen to albums in order!!) each song feels the exact same tho, def not my typa music but taking a stroll when you’re in a good mood can use this didn’t finish it i’m sorry but i js can’t

It’s the Isley. It sounds just like them. It’s not for me

Tepid, feminime.

4/10 I've heard a couple of these songs before so it was neat being able to put a name to them but besides that this really isn't my type of music.

good songs, too many versions. this album has 4 versions of Summer Breeze and 4 of That Lady. I would rather hear some different songs, thanks.

ehh not my tempo sorry!!

Some welcome change from the usual "white guys noodling on the guitar" rotation ... unfortunately, "black guys noodling on the guitar" isn't that big an improvement.

After 100 albums rated, you would think that I would have an idea why these albums were chosen. Well, the Isley Brothers have proven me wrong. This isn’t a bad album. This isn’t great music. It doesn’t stand out among other albums. It doesn’t sound innovative or particularly influential. It’s just an ordinary funk/soul record. I can sum it up in one word - Meh. 2 stars

No es mi estilo

Funky with some alright songs. Not really my thing.

Buff! Nop 🙂‍↔️

Funk-rock and soul built on fuzzy electric guitars, tight grooves, warm basslines, and smooth yet energetic vocals moves with confident, laid-back momentum. Listening feels like cruising through a hot summer evening where heavy riffs and silky harmonies drift past in equal measure.

Favorite songs: That Lady (Parts 1 & 2), If You Were There, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze

This gives me a headache.

Not my jam

Unfortunately quite long-winded in my taste, sound was good though

wiekszosci nie chcialo mi sie slucaac do konca, nie jest to doswiadczenie ktore chcialabym powotrzyc tak 1 a 2 idk nie pamietam

Funky! I think I would like some of their earlier albums a bit more. Also, too many covers.

It was ok. Not my genre. I knew That Lady. I also knew a couple of other songs on the album but not their versions of them. It was pretty short which was nice.

Bonito pero no le agarro

Probably good on a sound track or something. I’d never listen to it myself.

Nothing really remarkable here. A couple covers that lacked the energy of the originals. Not bad, just... Background. Mostly harmless.

Groovy and occasionally even funky. The songs that I know from other artists were unpleasant. Highlights: "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight", "You Walk Your Way"

Yacht rock

Enjoyed the cover of summer breeze. The rest was pleasantly funky.

152/1001 First listen. Not the sort of thing I ever listen to but it was enjoyable. 4/10

This is a glorified cover record, filled with jams that are hard to remember.

Eh very mid. Opening track drags it up to two stars otherwise very uneventful.
