Reviews (page 8 of 12)
Some pretty smooth tunes on here! Never really listened to much Isley's before and was surprised how many songs I recognize. Cool covers and a solid collection of songs that were well worth the listen! I'm kind of surprised at myself for enjoying it.
Solid funky album Fave songs: that Lady, if you were there, sunshine, summer breeze 4/5
Great funky soul sound with interesting covers
Positives: This had the best guitar solos I think I've ever heard on a R&B album. I mean wow, That Lady and Summer Breeze blew me away. (It was hard to hear That Lady and not think of Kendrick's "i" if I'm being honest). The Doobie Brothers Cover was also great (For more great covers check out their album Givin it Back. The vocals were great but for me it was more awesome for me to hear an R&B/Funk band do the extended jamming we hear on this album. I wish that was the whole album Negatives: Some of the slower songs were pretty boring and unremarkable to me. After the lift off of "That Lady", "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" was a huge leftdown. Overall: The highs on this album were very high for me but the lows were pretty low. There are songs I'm bookmarking and songs I never need to hear again in my life.
I really loved this one, I don't usually listen to much funk/soul so this was a treat. Favorite: That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2
Some timeless classics
Hey I know this Kendrick Sample
Lovely
That's some enjoyable music. was expecting some 70's soul but took me on a trip
Great sound
Funk-soul-rock. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
Musty smelling funk!
Made the monday commute 100% smoother
A really good funk album, enjoyed almost all the songs. Was nice to listen to something I wouldn't usually pick.
Funky as.
Mjög næs plata. That Lady er iconic.
Found the sample for Kendrick Lamar’s “I” with the first track “That Lady, Pts 1&2”. Should note I am familiar with the Isley Brothers but have never actually listened to an entire album, their vocals and instrumentals are as smooth as I would expect them to be. Album makes me feel good and happy, almost like a summer day.
Few good slappers - Downloaded 2 or 3 songs
First new to me, really good album
It's hard to judge songs you've heard literally thousands of times. But "That Lady" still jams! If I'm going to nitpick, this is a short album at just nine tracks and 40-ish minutes. But six of the tracks are covers (if you count "That Lady"). Mind, the covers are unique, and not just re-recordings with different personnel. But you'd still hope for more originals.
A classic, very specific mood. I like it, but I don't think I would sit down and listen the whole album again soon.
Isleys are seriously under-appreciated, both as hitmakers and players. There's some great playing here and rich interpretations on the covers.
Just a super funk + soul album, with some fantastic vocals and great guitar riffs. Not usually a big fan of cover albums but The Isley Brothers just make it their own that it's hard to believe it's not their songs.
I love me some '70s-style funk and soul, so this album was right up my alley. "That Lady" is a classic, but it was the only song on the album I was familiar with, minus the original versions of "Listen to the Music" and "Summer Breeze" (they do justice to the former and improve on the latter). My favorite track was "What it Comes Down to," which is '70s soul to the bone. Good stuff.
Fantastic 70s soul. Groovy.
Loved it especially the Doobie Brothers cover
I’m that lady
Better than I expected. Recognized a bunch of samples from here
While I have a lot of respect for R'n'B and the musicians in or in vicinity of Motown, I could never get into it myself. But this one is so funky and jammy, it's just so fun. "That Lady Pts. 1 & 2" with those keyboard licks just fucking slaps, If you were there has that great bass lines and tasteful guitar runs. Still a lot of ballads for a dull toneless fuck like me, but eh
Lovely guitar sound Nice feel Little but samey Love the lady
Sampled from frequently
Great listen. I love the Isley Brothers and was really into "The Highways of My life" and "Listen to the Music". "That Lady" is of course a classic as well. Somehow, I never made the connection that Kendrick samples that song for "I" until now. Both songs are great!
Very jammy.
Prefer the upbeat funk rather than the synth heavy ballads, but great album overall
Pretty epic collection of covers and stuff
The full version of Summer Breeze is a banger!
Groovy 👍
That was very enjoyable and some absolutely brilliant songs. 4.5
Good vibes
Had a fun time with this one. Bobbing my head, good funk, groove, music. All around good time
Nice and smooth
Funk-soul-rock. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
I'm usually too dead inside for these funky, fresh albums, but this actually got me grooving. The guitar work is fucking incredible. Like Hendrix or Gilmour levels of incredible. Some songs are kind of repetitive, but "That Lady" and "Summer Breeze" are certified giga-bangers. Shame because I was looking forward to making a 6/10 joke (haha get it? 3+3 is 6. That is literally the funniest thing anybody has ever come up with), but it's more like an 8/10.. so a very strong 4/5 on this scale I guess.
Its quite delightful
Funk central, enjoyed it a lot.
Aggressively 70’s, super funky, easy listening, overall good time.
Actually super good! Just a chill, positive, good time. I also knew way more songs than I thought I would.
So smooth.
Some fabulous covers and reimaginings on this album, rather fitting for the guys who were covered by the Beatles for Twist and Shout.
7/2/2022 - ALBUM #156 Today's Album: "3 + 3" by The Isley Brothers - As far as I can gather, the Isley brothers are a pretty legendary soul-funk trio from the early 70s, which typing now seems odd considering how well this album holds up when compared to a lot of it's contemporaries in the later 70s and early 80s. This album is somewhat of an experiment for the group, since they combined the efforts of the original 3 members (and 3 other family members providing various small parts) to an additional 3 guest musicians playing drums, tom-toms, organ, and congas, thus the name 3+3. In terms of the album itself, I think it's really enjoyable from start to finish. I think from the first 30 seconds of the opener, That Lady, it's clear that the production of the project overall is going to be stellar and it really does just sound great the whole way through. I think the auxiliary percussion from the guest artists liven things up and give it this sort of latin vibe to the otherwise super funky grooves being laid down on these tracks. The vocals are also a huge highlight here, with Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight being a standout for me, with lots of heartfelt balladry. There are a lot of songs in the middle of the project that do start to feel a tad more like filler, and not because they're terrible on their own, but just that when compared to tracks like That Lady and Summer Breeze, tracks like the pretty sub-par cover of the Doobie Brother's Listen To The Music just fall a bit flat. Speaking of Summer Breeze, however, I think this song alone saves a lot of this album for me. It's just so smooth and enjoyable that it feels like it pulls up the end of the record into feeling like this magical experience. The chorus is so goddamn catchy and the lyricism in general across the track is just so carefree. I should also mention that both this song and the opener That Lady come in a 2 part package, with the first part being a radio-friendly banger, and the 2nd part being an extension of the song with an absolutely wicked solo section and by that I mean genuinely some of the best guitar soloing I've heard. I do also appreciate the flow of this album, with many tracks seamlessly entering into the next like from If You Were There to You Walk Your Way. The closer of the album also carries this momentum into a pretty stellar finish, with a lot of the thought provoking themes of relationships and looking back on your decisions and communications being brought to a head, with the lyrics comparing the many paths in life to highways. It also has a lot of really sweet sounding synths and elegant piano passages that just create such a bittersweet atmosphere for a perfect goodbye to this record. Overall, I think this album was pretty fantastic, even if there are a few songs in the middle that stand pretty strong on their own, but simply don't compare to the way this album opens and finishes. Give this one a listen if you like Funk and Soul and I guarantee this will be your favorite album for a while. Highlights: That Lady, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, What It Comes Down To, Summer Breeze, The Highways Of My Life Score: 8/10 colorful, groovy, and occasionally psychedelic soul-funk bangers
So much fun. I thought this was gonna be the kind of album that would get me pregnant, but I was happy that there’s a lot more variety here than just the baby-making jams I anticipated. Not sure I’m ready yet to call this version of “Summer Breeze” the definitive one, but I had never heard their take on “Listen to the Music” and I’m prepared now to pretend like the Doobie Bros. version simply doesn’t exist. Doobie who? I’m already doing it. Wonder if they ever figured out who that lady is tho’.
I loved this! I knew a couple of song but hadn't heard anything else from the Isley Brothers but what a vibe. Absolute funk blues bliss. This put me in a great mood
So many tracks I’ve enjoyed off this before but had never heard the whole album. Still stands up as a great summer album
The Isley Brothers is the group that managed to score a Hot 100 hit for 6 decades straight. They're also one of the most sampled artists in hip hop. Play any of their top hits and you can name several songs that sample them, notoriously Biggie. But as for funk, this album offers few weaknesses. There's a fair mix of pre-disco funk rock and slower soulful songs, with many somewhere in between. I'm a huge fan of the energetic front vocals with backing support and the various keyboards, whether the organ, clavinet, or synths. The guitar really shines when it electrifies. They redefine the covers as their own, still recognizable, yet fresh and exciting as they put their hearts into each cover. There's several songs I don't care for much, but only two I find purely boring. It's not the most impressive funk out of the 70s, nor is it even close to being my favorite, but you can't deny this album is full of great tracks that grab your attention, never drawing out its stay. Favorites: That Lady, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze, The Highways of My Life Least Favorites: You Walk Your Way, Sunshine
Great album
Oh, this is a smooth album. Very nice.
Brilliant
Hell yeah! Love the Isley Brothers, and this happens to have my favorite song from them, their rendition of Summer Breeze. And how fitting to get "That Lady," the song sampled by Kendrick Lamar on i, the day before Kendrick drops his new album. Anyway, this one is excellent, this is the kind of R&B/soul stuff that I really, consistently enjoy. Fantastic grooves all around. Favorite tracks: Summer Breeze, That Lady, If You Were There, What It Comes Down To, The Highways of My Life. Album art: Pretty ordinary band photo, but the guys look cool. Are they really all brothers? 4.5/5
Great songs, great playing. Sweet!
Cool album. Some songs were a bit too busy. Some great guitar in this one
There is a lot of funk and groove on this album, with a few recognizable songs that have made their rotation throughout pop culture, notably in commercials. This album is fun, it is soulful, the Isley Brothers sound as though they are having fun and that sentiment is certainly expressed on that first listen. "Summer Breeze" features a significant guitar solo towards the end of the song that beautifully complements the soulfully jazzy tone. Musically, the album is complex and groovy and it is expertly melded with the vocals, from the lead to the background this is a master's craft in good sounding music. The recording is warm sounding yet each instrument has its distinct contribution while still complementing each other smoothly. A decent pair of speakers/headphones will duplicate this, and one should do so.
This was a great album. It was a nice mix of funk and R&B. That said, there were times when I wanted more funk or more R&B rather than the two interchanged with each other.
Pretty good album, though the covers were not improved from their respective originals. Still a very fun album.
Leaping into a new record label after over a decade in others, 3+3 finds The Isley Brothers finding themselves tangled with some of their most recognizable songs and most effective hidden gems. You may find them pointless, but the interviews tacked at the end helps get The Isleys and their impact on music across and serves as an insight to their trajectories and progress. 3+3 indeed. Favorites: Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, You Walk Your Way, Listen to the Music, Sunshine (Go Away Today), Summer Breeze (Pts 1& 2), The Highways of My Life.
Some beautiful songs. Truly a classic
Great album! 4/5 That lady, Don’t let me be lonely Sunshine Summer breeze The highlights of my life
I can understand why it's a must listen, I thought it would be way of the type of music I enjoy, ended up enjoying it a lot more than expected. Favorite track: Summer breeze, Pts.1 & 2
I liked this one. The guitar work is really good, particularly on the tracks 'That Lady' and 'Summer Breeze' which are the highlights on the album. The instrumentation elsewhere is also enjoyable. Generally the album has a relaxed feel. Overall I'm undecided between 3.5 and 4 stars, but I think this is worthy of 4.
This was very enjoyable. Some great funk and soul. If I saw this at my record store I would pick it up.
Great album. Musically the band is really tight. The Isleys have a wonderful pop sensibility with a smooth vibe few of their peers can touch. Quite a few covers on this album, some brilliant ("Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," "Summer Breeze") and some just fairly good ("Sunshine," "Listen to the Music"). On the flip side, I was today years old when I learned that "If You Were There" was not an original Wham! song. Loved it. Fave Songs: What It Comes Down To, That Lady, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, Summer Breeze, If You Were There, The Highways of My Life
22nd February 2022 Listened on the sofa while working. Had a chilled evening for our anniversary where we got pizza and watched the ugly truth! Disco funk of the highest order, sounds like a sweaty summer night.
Listened to on 2/14/22 4/5 Favorite Song: You Walk Your Way, Summer Breeze This album was great and so easy to listen to. The integration of different instruments was flawlessly done and their music was soulful. I could play it on repeat all day
Who’s that Lady is a classic and the rest of the album was pleasant to listen to. Really a 3.5 in my book but I enjoyed it overall so a 4.
Fun, classic, a bit cheesy
pretty good vice city vibes
This is real good stuff. Summer Breeze is a fantastic cover.
Classic!
A very fun, funky and soulful record. Favorites: "That Lady", "Summer Breeze", "The Highways of My Life"
Short, to the point, very peppy at points but also mellow and sweet at other times. Little bit of a shame that almost half were covers but i enjoyed them except for the cover of the Doobie Brother's Listen to the Music. That Lady. A Classic very much liked. Guitar wailing almost used like a vocal track Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight: Beautiful, soulful and understated singing performance and simple but effective playing, accents the singer well. Elevated version of the Taylor classic. If You Were There: Another Funky Song, sorta basic but does the job well. Not at all bad. Almost as if a Four Seasons song were to be funk. You Walk Your Way: Was waiting for a little gospel, one of the best ones on the album. Uplifting. Gospely with out being too much. Very subtle and sweet. Listen to the Music: Prefer the Dobbie Brothers version didn't do much different except for dialing the funkyness of it up by one point. Highways Of My Life: Bass playing strong, nothing revolutionary but strong and also very accentuated. Sunshine (Go Away Today): Very nice bass playing, very nice. Liked that the bass was the focal point of the song almost throughout. Better than og. Summer Breeze pt. 1 and 2: Like the small influence from asian traditional music in intro. Elevates og into another realm.
Good jams, really enjoyed this one’s nostalgic smooth sounds. 4
Now this is what I'm talking about. This is soul-funk with the smoothness and sexiness I'm looking for.
What a great album! So hugely influential. Their influence extends WAY further than I even realized. Fave track: "That Lady." Extra fun because Kendrick Lamar sampled it for "i".
Awesome, seemingly effortless, funk and soul. A great listen. Fave track - "That Lady" is badass - also loved their version of "Summer Breeze"
First track banging, popular one, Dave Dew used to play it. Whole album is so funky/Souly/feel good that it feels hard not to give it a 4. But I am listening to it on a sunny Spring morning, so maybe that helps. Summer Breeze another banger and DD fav.
Smooth and goes down easy, but with plenty of complex notes. Best track: That Lady
High Funk, and nearly impeccable pop music, too. Plenty of songs are songs first before launching into extended, ecstatic, instrumental flourishes. All while staying trim.
So funky! "That Lady" is a new favorite. As for the rest, I really loved their electrified versions of early 70s chestnuts. I definitely enjoyed their "Listen to the Music" more than the original and "Summer Breeze" is so smooooooth. I love the instrumentation in this album. This put a whole bunch of needed soul in my step today.
Love the early 70s synths. Knew a lot of the songs, although not in this form. “That Lady” is great. Was fun to hear their spins on “You Walk Your Way,” “Listen to the Music,” “Sunshine (Go Away Today)”, and “Summer Breeze.” Will add several of these songs to the library
Strong start for the album, good rhythm and catchy songs like that lady and if you were there. The slower songs don't feel out of place and help keep focus on the album. Not sure how I feel about the cover of listen to the music. Feels different enough that it can grow on me bur I don't know if I can place it above the doobie brothers version. The second half isn't as solid as the first but it's still good. Overall 4/5
Good album overall, the "extra" content on the reissue just makes it seem bloated and repetitive. Outstanding musicianship. Their cover of Seals & Crofts classic is better than the original IMO.
That album where you realize you've been listening to covers of the original songs...
Smooth and sultry. Electric guitar Summer Breeze has me dumbfounded Saved: That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2, That Lady, Pt.1 - Single Version, Summer Breeze, Pt.1 - Single Version*
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2; If You Were There; You Walk Your Way; Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2; The Highways Of My Life Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Another fooooooooooour premiere. (don't tell anyone but I prefer the single versions of the two big hits lolz)
Never heard this album but there are some songs on here almost everyone knows. Soooo many bangers and a great mix of different styles of music. 4.5/5
Soul.
Solid R&B, lots of toe tapping tunes. Seems extremely well produced overall. Listened on youtube music at work. Got me moving on every track. At the start of this, I wasn't enamored, but man, this is SOLID. 4.5/5.
So many songs I’ve heard covered but didn’t know the source
Way more funky than you'd expect, whips along at a great pace while staying laid back.
Hard to fault, but James Taylor's original version of 'Don't let me be lonely tonight' is much better, as is The Doobie Brothers' original of 'Listen to the music'. But their versions are OK and the two singles are great.. The guitar on 'whose that lady' is just epic!
Me sorprendió.
good funky soulful album
So smooth
It was a funky-ass Friday. This had some great versions of songs like Sunshine Go Away Today and Summer Breeze.
Some classics on here.
As a fan of "Awaken, My Love" this was a very cool exploration of the Ancestral DNA of that album, and stood strong in its own right
Blues and Funk, huh? Yeah, listenable :)
i need it again, really liked vocal communication
funky stuff
This was an awesome album. Great vocals on top of great production. Really loved the Hendrix inspired guitar and synth work.
Great album, never boring, loved the guitar, timeless sounding
This is a great and easy-entry selection of classic 70s soul+rock+r&b. Starting right out with "That Lady" - a high-energy uptempo song which can sit alongside any rock song of the era. I'm not often a fan of albums consisting of many covers (and this has no less than 4 that are/were already well-known) so it docks it a bit for me...but these are done in such an *Isley Brothers style* that it's hard to believe they're not originals. 7/10 4 stars
Super enjoyable and deserving of multiple listens
This album swings, I think it holds up really well. Probably closer to a 3.5 but I will round up to a 4 because I know I will listen to this album again!
Wow these boys can sing. And some really great tracks too. Who's that Lady. Love there version of the Dooby Brothers Listen to the Music and Seaks and Crofts Aummer Breeze, never had so much soul. A fine fun album 3.75 🌟
Such a great album, with iconic songs and incredibly distorted guitars, in a good way.
God this is a relief after all the psychedelic dad rock, even though this is pretty psychedelic funk. Great start, bopping in my office seat to 'That Lady". "Summer Breeze" put me in a great mood. They really remind me of someone I can't put my finger on, maybe that my mom listened to when I was a child - stevie wonder? ... yep, reminds me of Superstition.
Whow! That's something! I didn't know the band and this album was amazing!
Yup, very tasty.

7/10. I'm sorry, but I think "That Lady" is a bit annoying. Overall I liked the style of the album though.
Don't let me be lonely tonight, Highways of my life. Does not feel old. Sounds great
Some very sweet and pleaseant songs, a couple of which I was already familiar with but had no idea who wrote them. Found it a bit one dimensional, but closer to a 3.5
Good, not great. I recognized a few songs. Better soul on this list
Might relisten.
Enjoyed it. Some classics on there.
I love this album so far. Very soulful. Perfect for the hi-fi. I really liked the rhythms, it was so chill and summer friendly.
Nice, but I'm not really into soul
I'm not sure when I would ever groove to this. It wasn't bad just not up my alley.
Had no idea who the Isley Brothers were before this, though it turns out I was definitely familiar with at least Summer Breeze. Might not listen again to this album, but could see myself watching a documentary about them
really high highs. really groovy and danceable. just a little repetitive.
Nice stuff to have on in the background. I'd listen again, some of the instrumental stuff was awesome. Probably worth another listen. Sunshine was good, as was summer breeze.
3.5
The first song was amazing the rest sorta passed me by
Two songs don't make an album; while 'That Lady' and 'Summer Breeze' are strong singles, the rest of the album feels distinctly like filler.
GOOD TUNEZ
- damn long ass album longgg ending instrumental pretty groovy vibe change fr soulful af slow but a good slow interesting noises don't vibe as much with this i liked the groove of this one groovy but not standout transition into this one was smooth electric guitar (?) is banging ooo i don't fuck with this one mmm no big thoughts on this one great guitar riff though nice soft one mid oo i like this one i think i like this version better yh i don't vibe too much with the noises of this one but the singing hits the rest were interviews? didn't listen to them lol nice album overall not reallyyy my vibe
Excellent listen.
3.5 overall smooth, funky, and exciting (guitar solo rips)
It’s okay but nothing special to me, this genre isn’t my first choice
Really nice Fav tracks: You Walk Your Way, That Lady
Mostly covers of classics that mostly work.
Close to being a four, especially with Summer Breeze pts. 1 & 2
Me gustó mucho. Divertido, lindo, ameno, relajante, energizante.
beautiful album to start friday, that lady my god nice!
Good album just not something I want to hear a lot of
Great 70s vibes - loved their version of Listen to the Music
Enough duller moments on the tracklist to keep it down a little, but it's a fine album with some great things to offer, still certainly worth hearing
Manche Songs sind echt Feuer 🔥
ganz ok
Fun and smooth! I liked the funky/upbeat songs better than the soulful, slower paced ones.
Solid musiikkia. Aika menevää osa biiseistä ehdottomasti muutama biisi meni jatkoon. 3 kappaletta pääsi omalle listalle saakka.
Overall really good funk/soul, and enjoyed the covers. Not super into funk/soul generally, but enjoyed this a lot. 3+
Some fine playing and singing; Ernie could surely wail and Summer Breeze is a great showcase. Rhythm section groove is amazing.
OUTRO ARTISTA NEGRO!!!! Bem R&B? Sla. 7.7 de 10 If you were there é bem parecida com as outras do álbum. Bem lembra o Dylan e a Brenda. Me lembra Jesus. 7.5 de 10 You walk your way começa diferente e tem uma letra forte apesar do som romântico. Trata um término com suavidade. 7 de 10 Listen to the Music é legalzinha. Me lembra as do Bruno Mars.
This was a good album, liked their version of some these songs!
good album but summer breeze FOUR TIMES??? Still not bad at all.
+
Better than I had expected.
One hit after another, but a little too smooth for my taste.
Okay but did not wow me.
Weekend is good. Lots of classics here. Interview was cool.
Nice, easy listening.
A really solid album. I love the funk fuzz guitar solo tones. I also enjoy the covers. Always fun to hear a new cover that you hadnt heard before.
Solid jazz
pretty good album - classic soul rock. not something that I ever listened to when it came out although I had heard some of the hits from the album. A solid three, I'll probably listen to it again although I don't think that I would try to purchase it
Good album, like their sound.
Ricooo, no los conocía. Me gustó. Mucha onda, groove, tocan bárbaro. Y canciones re lindas
Soul
Old-timey, old-school classic R&B from the early 1970s that hasn't aged well. Occasional good grooves, but I generally get bored pretty quickly with this kind of innocuous music.
A laid‑back, groove‑rich album with a couple of absolute killers up top and a middle that keeps things moving. Couple of songs make a playlist.
surprised by how many covers were on the record. enjoyed the whole thing, though soul/funk not typically my jam. Bass player was great!
I'm not much a groovy guy but it was pretty awesome
Couldn't give it 6, that would be absurd.
A really funky good listen. Some all time songs. However, the fact that most of the best tracks are covers does bring it down a notch. I think the covers are really cool reimagined versions, but still would have liked more original material. Summer Breeze might be better than the original though. I thought the production was just okay. Felt a little flat and cold to my ears today. A high 3/5.
Funky and vibes. Not my favorite but definitely good.
I had a great time, though I think the covers of others' hits were the weakest part of the album.
Summer Breeze, what a banger. Rest of the album was fun, but unnoteworthy.
It was fine, enjoyed
Funk-Pop. 2,7
Some great covers but the originals aren't my favorite
Funk in full flow. That Lady & Summer Breeze huge for good reason, backed by other solid work. A good reminder.
Some good covers, plus That Lady
You just knew from the album cover that this was going to be pure sauce, and it is, but despite two amazing guitar solos it's a bit forgettable.
Not my cup of tea but can appreciate the craftsmanship
A little schlocky and cheesy compared to the earlier albums of theirs that I’ve heard. This one is too little funk/soul and too much disco/pop for me, but a few decent songs.
It’s okay ig
Smooth
Disappointed. I thought I would like this a lot more than I did. No surprise the listen counts for on Spotify: the singles are in the eight digits but the rest are mostly low 6 digits.
It’s okay, I guess, just not my cup of tea.
Its ok... lol. Nah, its a classic.
7/10 - I heard Kendrick from the jump and said “oh this might be fun!” And it was! Good album, slightly long run time makes it a light 7
It's fun, it's groovy. I'd listen to it a couple times a year. I like it when they were leaning into the funk sound. 7/10
Lots of covers, but who cares : ) That Lady is fabulous
Soft funk is how I see this music, and there is nothing not to like. Fireside and lakeside, no agenda.
This is good but some of these albums I don't know are "must listen" Do we really need to hear their 11th album? What about the other 10
Geiles cover
Impressed that at artist can reach their peak on their 11th album. It isn’t really my style but I enjoyed it.
Pretty decent. My personal favourites were ‘Don’t let me be lonely tonight’ and ‘If you were there’. Not completely forgettable but I wouldn’t be playing this everyday. This is the kind of record you put on at a party drinking with a few friends, auburn lights and good conversation. Solid album to listen to in the background.
Oops. I meant to give the last one a 4. They captured a vibe I really enjoyed on "Forest Fire," and I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of it! (Favorites: Perfect Skin, Rattlesnakes, Forest Fire, Four Flights Up) Anyways, this album was also pretty good. Not something I'll return to ALL that much, as this music is not what I usually gravitate towards, but overall enjoyed the vibes. Favorites: That Lady, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze
not really my vibe or what id reach for but groovin to it. nevertheless she persisted to groove
Okay. 3.5
great music, less impressed by the covers of the songs of other artists. a fun listen.
This had some classic/memorable songs, and I like it. But an hour straight of it is a bit much :). Not quite as enjoyable as Marvin Gaye.
I had real high hopes going in but this just wasn't quite there for me. Had it's moments but less than the sum of it's parts.
It doesn’t get more 70s than this, really. So smooth. 3.5?
3.5
its not my style
This album sounds like the songs that they would play at the end of a movie. It's not bad per say, just not my personally taste. Although, "That Lady" is quite nice to listen to.
Not my jam, though I love bands for that genre.
Solid funk
First listen
Not bad by any means, just not my cup of tea and I get the distinct feeling there's better Isley Brothers music than this just knowing how much they were sampled. Some guitar parts were parts where borderline virtuosic though, with Summer Breeze being a personal highlight, so I'll definitely be revisiting that at the very least.
This is really fun. There are a lot of iconic songs here. The music is just great. The interviews were not necessary, but that isn't really the album's fault. This tends to be repetitive, but it is so fun. Actual rating...3.5 Liked Songs: "That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2" , "If You Were There" , "You Walk Your Way" , "Listen to the Music" , "Sunshine (Go Away Today)" , "Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2"
Estuvo bien 7/10
ok, aber bestimmt keine Weltklasse.
The musik is ok. Just that.
I wanted to give this 4, but the same track is on here like 5 times.
ahahah 3 stars!!
3.5 stars. Pretty decent. Kind of a funky Doobie Brothers sound. Which makes sense since they covered a Doobie Brothers song on here. Good listen.
Not the kind of music I usually listen to but still pretty good
For an April day with a high of 86°, feels appropriate… I found it kind of repetitive though tbh I wish it was more funky!
Not familiar with this as an album. Excited for some funk/soul! Scanning the track list, I definitely recognize some of the songs. Interesting to read that this was their 11th album. Strong start with That Lady. Love the guitars. Feels like it would fit the mood for summer BBQ/outdoor party. Less into a ballad like Don't Let Me Be Lonely... The vocals and musicality are so strong across the board. Even if I'm not into every song here, this is undeniably an album worthy of being on a list like this. You Walk Your Way is great! The one way this is similar to yesterday's album (Definitely Maybe) is that it feels like a vibes record.
who's that ladaaayy?
Groovy baby
Good groove
This is a fun album that sounds like the soundtrack to an awesome movie.
pretty dang ol good i thinks
Enjoyed listening to this today. Summer Breeze and That Lady are timeless, well known tracks for a reason and it was nice to hear the original version of If You Were There as I'd only ever heard George Michael singing it until now. Not so keen on their cover of The Doobie Brothers song Listen To The Music though and although the rest of the songs are perfectly nice, there's nothing else that's really standing out and making me want to save this album for repeated future listening. Still, it's a solid 3 stars.
Lost my notes again! Weirdly, I was about to give this 4 stars but then listened to it on a drive, and decided it just isn't THAT great. It's good and I'm glad for the change of pace on this list, but it's really just fine music. I'll be a little sad this doesn't make the 4's, but it just doesn't deserve it
I'd like to give this a higher score, the songs are good and the playing is flawless, but nothing grabbed me. 3.5
it was okay, was a couple of moments i really liked, but wasn't really focused on the album
Not my type of music but nice enough
Soul with some funk. Lovely smooth sound. Great mix and production. Really nice groove. More ballad-y tracks like Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight not for me. Best track - That Lady 3 stars, doesn't really reach the levels of That Lady again for me
- pretty fun - these are covers?? - might listen again
Przyjemna płyta, idealna do niedzielnego brunchu.
I'm behind so no review
Pleasant and smooth. But a little dull. 3+3= wait for it…. 3. See what I did there?
Lotta great instrumentation here and while I thought there were some good songs this isn’t my speed. I as good to listen too and appreciate but I won’t be returning.
2.5 stars I don’t know if I thought the album was good or if it blended it the background. I know there were a lot of covers that were varying levels of interesting. “That Lady” is great and the guitar work on the record is fun. But all in all I don’t know if I’d really consider the album good or fine. Not sure I’ll listen to it again.
This cover is so funny to me for some reason. I think I might like this, as soul is usually up my alley. We shall see Ok so this is soul but not your grandmother's soul! The opener starts of all nice but then has this nasty guitar solo. Good stuff. The song after that is a heartfelt, slower ballad, arkening back to blues at times, but staying within the soul of the time. The next songs after that keep the soul angle, but are not worthy of distinction within the genre. Listen to the music brings much needed change with some funk energy, even if it does go on for a bit too long. What it comes down to is within the same vein, but not as effective. Sunshine is better, but maybe a bit too repetitive. Summer Breeze. Now we're talking! This song feels like happiness, and the guitar moments are great (especially the solo at the end). This song alone gets me mad about the rest of the albu, because this is the potencial that the band has and can live up to. The closer is another slower, heartfelt moment, but one whose execution puts other past attempts to shame. Overall, this was very meh. This album has a strong song at the start, and two strong songs at the finish. The middle just kinda happens. Nothing offensively bad, just maybe boring at times. Another case of a couple songs carrying the album. I guess it's a 3? But not a particularly strong one. Yeah, bye
3 + 3 = 3. this album tried a little too hard for me.
Not my favourite but some great standout tracks!
3 - For whatever reason, I constantly mix up the Isly Brothers and the Doobie Brothers, so when "Listen to the Music" came on I was absolutely baffled. Fav Songs: That Lady Pts. 1&2 // Sunshine (Go Away Today)
Ok stuff 3
The first two songs here sum up this album and its highs and lows fairly well. The opener is a funky blast, with energetic percussion and multiple guitar solos. Track two slows things down and is a fairly generic soul song, with none of the excitement of the opener. There's really not much to criticize here, as the vocals are great, and songs are lush and well-produced. At the same time, there's nothing here that elevates this above its peers and it kind of just sounds like a classic soul album. That's a little unfair because artists like the Isley Brothers defined that sound, but outside of the opener and "Summer Breeze" there are no real standouts here. Great for a summer cookout, but also surpassed by similar albums with deeper and groovier funk.
SUMMER BREEEEZE MAKES ME FEEL FIIINE nostalgia for last summer
Cool but probably won’t come back to this
That Lady and Summer Breeze are a vibe, the rest not so much.
Classic unc tunes. A vibe but definetly some skips
Baby making music
3.25 - This was a nice listen. Lots of stuff I recognize.
Not a bad album, just not for me. Not in the right headspace for it. Everything sounded the same.
I remember "That Lady" from the radio back in the day, and that was fun (though I kept thinking that the guy should just accept that the lady doesn't want to date him, and move on!) Lots of this is good; as always I really like the funk part of these songs, and of course these guys are great musicians. But I don't really enjoy slow soul songs, or covers of songs when I'm not a fan of the originals (e.g., Summer Breeze). And that makes up a lot of this album. So this is ok, but not something I'd return to. 3 stars
This album started great and then seemed to go down hill from there. I’m glad I listened to it but I’m not sure if revisit it.
Lots of fun. This kind of music puts me in a good mood.
Guardados on first listen: That lady & If you were there.
Album Review 084 3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers (1973) Rating 2.5/5 3 + 3 should be an album that I love. It’s the Isley’s evolving their sound away from Motown soul and further towards a heavier funk, however, aside from the opener (Who’s That Lady), the album leaves me feeling underwhelmed. I love the guitar and bass playing of Ernie and Marvin Isley around this time but most of the album just feels too soft and ballad-focused, and lacks the energy it opens with.
Smooth and breezy soul
Don't need that many remixes but okay alright A good album, yet nothing special
Disco meets R&B with some killer guitar parts. Yet, I was hoping for a little more?
Love jamming out to the Isley’s! Wish the whole album had the same momentum.
Double album.... That's cheating! Funk version of "listen to the music" interesting. Late night groove. One album was probably enough. For an album called "3+3"I'm giving it a ..... "3"
I wasn’t too keen when this popped up but actually, its pretty good…
the songs were cool but it was just the same 4 songs over and over
3/4
Classic! Saved a few
Very Hendrix influenced guitar sections some great songs but others aren’t as strong 3.4
3.2
Classic 70s soul album by a legendary band. Though, nothing really stands out aside from a few tracks. Still smooth and better than a lot on here.
I really enjoyed this album, heaps of funky guitar riffs and sick drums. For sure a cop on vinyl.
Just not my style I guess. But has some very fun sounds. Second Half was better than the first.
3 estrellas
Cool, groovy, smooth and chill for a Friday morning. 3+3 is a solid 3.
Pretty solid album.
Decent album. Very funky. Summer Breeze cover was cool but nothing special.
3/5. It's a decent album. They went way too hard with the synthesizer, and the lead vocalist would've done better if he didn't rely so much on the same set of tricks over and over. The songs are good though, and all the covers pay homage to the creators while making something unique and interesting. Most people will find at least one or two songs on here worthwhile.
This was fun, funky music. ‘Listen to the Music’ and ‘Summer Breezem were the recognizable standouts, but these were both covers and did not surpass the originals IMO. Overall a pleasant listen, but didn’t lead me to learn much more about the band or significance via the Wiki.
Good album. Has some fun covers and the playing is consistent throughout. Some well done early funk. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
A nice listen with some decent tunes. Doesn't totally resonate with me, but I'd be absolutely fine with listening to this anytime someone threw it on.
6/10
smooth
Cool, funky album. Not really my cup of tea, though. Still gotta appreciate the good, sunny vibes this album brings.
did not finish
This is an alright funk album, i liked about every track that isn't a single lol.. I think this band was way too focused on the singles they forgot to make good music, my favorite parts would probably be the last 3 minutes of That Lady with the instrumental part and all of The Highways of My Life because it felt way more personal than all of the other stuff. The sound isn't too different from something like Michael Jackson's music, so it would've been cool to see their own spin on the sound. So yeah, i think if they focused on making good music instead of big singles, it would've been better because i feel as this band had a lot of potential. Not saying that that's the band's fault, because in most cases it's the record labels pressing the artists, but there are just a lot of other records that do the same thing but better. This isn't something about the album itself but oh my god WHY ARE THERE LIKE 9 EXCLUSIVE SONGS ON THE END OF THE ALBUM?? I understand if it's like one or two, but there are NINE exclusives here, including four different interviews?? At this point just do like Jamiroquai does and put them on a separate disc, because we do NOT need all that. Favorite song: The Highways of My Life Least favorite song: Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight
Good background music but doesn't excite me to listen to it again.
