Reviews (page 2 of 14)
I’ve always been a fan of Fatboy Slim’s music. I know I likely had Right Here, Right Now pirated off limewire on my iPod back in the day. That late 90s electronic style is iconic. That track will always get me hyped up. I love learning that this was cooked up with floppy discs on an Atari ST computer. Not featured on this album but the music video of Weapon of Choice with Christopher Walken is one of the best music videos of all time. If you haven’t seen it already you should watch it now. If you have seen it already you should watch it again. If your interested in watching some core late 90s/early 2000s history check out the Woodstock 99 mini series on Netflix. It captures the epitome of event planning failure and denying any responsibility. The set list for the festival seems like an all time dream set list. There is an interview with Fatboy slim about his set where he witnesses the crowd start to descend into pure chaos with an ambulance overtaken by the crowd. It’s truly nightmare fuel for Karen I’m sure. Watching from your couch as much as it looks like a pure hell experience. There is a piece of me that wishes I was present not as the 10 year old I was at the time but as a young adult accepting the chaos as a ridiculous series of events.

Album 207. You've Come a Long Way Baby (https://open.spotify.com/album/2ELLu16F9TTREQuU4OuAnN?si=RwLGN7HDQPG8H47hcbBtNw) — Fatboy Slim (1998) It's too much electronic music recently, third album in a row. And this one I liked the most. It has great repetitive beats, and it's perfect for background or something like that. Some of its tracks are quite famous like Right Here Right Now or The Rockafeller Skank. This repetitiveness is maybe a little annoying, but it's working great for me. It's more like brain-off background music that kills distraction and works better than lofi or other shit. 5/5 Liked: — Right Here Right Now — The Rockafeller Skank — Fucking in Heaven — Soul Surfing — You're Not from Brighton — Praise You — Acid 8000
Fucking great. Bit intense to listen to the whole album on a run. It's above 40mins. But it's the one album so far that's probably had the most number of good tracks. 5/5.
simplemente épico, simplemente épico
What a Banger of an album - outstanding🙌
Rate: 10/10. Que espléndido que es Fatboy Slim no sabía de su existencia, como me encanta la música con personalidad.
Absolute fucking banger.
Half of these tracks are classics, rhe other half is solid. This was just the sound of the millenium.
A perfect album. Banger after banger, toe tapping beats, and infectious hooks.
Now THIS is a Fatboy Slim album I want to hear. Serious big beat feel and full of great songs.
What a fucking great album this is, can’t help but 🕺🏻 dance about
Two great songs. It was a big album and got a lot of attention for this type of music. Definitely should be on this list just for that.
A bit tamer with time but still groundbreaking
¡¡De fábula!!
Goood
Great album for running
I got this album when it came out and it continues to be one of my favs. I’m not super into electronic music, but this guy holds my interest.
Now we are talking. EPIC og electronic music. When mixes had soul, creating various kinds of genres and personalities. Bug Beat. I was starting to get worried i havent gave starts to nothing yet, and despite this not being my favourite yet, it definitely started perfectly taking me aback and vibed through it. Im feeling generous today
a few songs on here are awesome, first two and last three. if this don't make your booty move, your booty must be dead!
God, this album encapsulates the 90s for me. It's full of earworms and it's a fun listen. Some of these songs were everywhere when I was growing up. So much nostalgia here. But is it good? Outside of some repetitiveness, I'd say hell yeah, it's very good. Cook has assembled some banging beats and quirky electronic accents and vocals that mesh really well together. The songs build and swell and its kinda everything you want out of this genre. Standout tracks on this listen were "The Rockafeller Skank" "Gangster Trippin" "Kalifornia" and "Praise You" I think its gotta be a 5 from me. A couple songs were a little lacking and "Fucking In Heaven" was pretty cringe-worthy, but it's all kinda forgivable considering how catchy the whole album is. I'd pop this back on any day.
iconic album
amazing album I grew up with thanks fatboy
Phenomenal dance albums with some smashing hits.
muy buen disco

We did come a long way, we kids of the 90's. Through the hard times and the good. But this album was here with us all the way. So we have to celebrate it, baby, we have to praise it, like we should! Right here and right about now!
Difficult not to give this anything outside a 5. So many crackers in a single album.
When I was about 8 we were allowed to bring in our favourite song to listen to in class. Being cheeky I played the double bill of Right Here Right Now / Rockefeller Skank. I do remember the panic though to rush to the CD player before the rather less child friendly track 3 played
Deadass was not expecting an album like this to be so relevant almost 28 years later.
Right Here Right Now, The Rockefeller Skank, and Praise You are SO unbelievably iconic it gives me chills. The album is masterfully infectious and makes me wanna DANCE. It’s such a pure taste of house music. Not all the tracks are great like Fucking in Heaven is actually ass. I love the 90s. This album fucks. 4.6
Incredible. No notes. Although I guess this is a note isn't it. Never mind.
An album that's foundational to my music taste. Really started my love for electronic music, breakbeat and heavy usage of samples. Every track makes you want to move. 5/5 stars
music is love
Easy 5
Distilled essence of the nineties. And sure, maybe it's nostalgia goggles, but this is a five for me.
Incredibile, pazzesco, bellissimo.
3/16 Banger of an album
Band of the 90s, if you want to call it a band because it's a one man name.
Great amazing listen that had classics that I had no idea were from Fatboy Slim 10/10
Makes me nostalgic for the late 90s and early 00s when big beat was huge.
Not my typical genre but non stop bangers with some all-timers in there
Classic
This was an instant classic. SO many singles. This album, for a good period of time, was in part the soundtrack to our lives. CHECK IT OUT NOW, THE FUNK SOOOOUL BRUTHA. There isn’t a bad track here.
me encanta para darle caña al cuerpo algunas canciones pero no todo un disco, me encanta por que algunas canciones las conozo co
Really enjoyed listening to this while driving around. High energy, fun beats. Liked Build it Up, Kalifornia, Love Island, Acid.
I have listened to this album every single day since it was generated. The soundtrack to the best backyard pool party you have ever seen. Just a blast from front to back. Of course I have heard Praise You and Rockafeller Skank, but everything else was new to me.
The cover is excellent. The fat guy wasn't found ever.
Some real "Babe Ruth pointing at the stands" big swings on this one
One of my faves.
Five stars. Great album.
Electronic masterpiece

All tracks were really enjoyable, especially liked Rockefeller Skank, Gangster Tripping and Praise You
As an electronic music fan, I am have a ton of prejudice in favour of this album, but it is truly great. First of all, it has an established reputation of a defining record, almost a sacred one at this point. Fatboy Slim truly goated this, and I've known the hits of the album for years. But those that are haven't are not bad either. The first half of the album is generally full of masterpieces, while I found "Acid 8000" a great track that will make one dance for sure, otherwise they must be dead. Can't rate this less than five as the album brings pure joy, is highly influantial, in fact it is an industry standard for beatmaking and sampling. To conclude, that's great, I love it and will definitely re-listen at least the most part of YCaLWB.
Que el gordo sepa que el gordo puede.
Great album. I was hooked right away and straight through. Even the songs that weren't my favorite were still really good. Maybe not an album I will listen through from start to finish again but I definitely added some songs to different playlists after this.
Still so good for so many reasons. And unique in a genre that bred conformity.
me encanto
a sound that defined the 90s. i would love to hear this sampled now — i think it stands the test of time. my fave of this project so far.
An album for hip hop movies and running the way fatboy Slim worked is impressive. 10/10
Fun times! Still has some bangers on here. Perfect background for working!
What a great album. Has aged very well. Every track is strong and actually makes me want to dance!!
Fatboy Slim is fucking in heaven.
Classic!
Brilliant …. Love it.
Very cool
This one really lights me up, love the samples and clean stems. The music videos accompanying songs like Praise You are ones I’ll still pull up from time to time. It gets a little liquidy in the last ten minutes, but I’m dancing throughout
Bloody loved it!!! Just wanted to dance!
"You've Come a Long Way, Baby" by Fatboy Slim - what a BANGER! I remember when it came out, I played it up and down while driving to work in my turquoise colored "Fiat Panda 750 CLX Fire" 😂. This album is just loaded with iconic tracks that still work perfectly today. There are so many absolute classics on here like "Right Here, Right Now", "The Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You", and hearing them again reminded me why this record was such a big deal. Fun fact I also did not know until now: Norman Cook did produce the album using an Atari ST setup from his home studio.
I love this album so much. I would have loved to have been old enough to enjoy and appreciate this back when it released in 1998. When I was young my dad was a Moby fan so 'Play' was my introduction to electronic music. That and the soundtrack to Pi for some reason. Looking back I think this album specifically has something about it that feels so 1998 to me, like I wouldn't be surprised if a Fatboy Slim song is in a Need For Speed game from that era. Or like the Agent Cody Banks soundtrack.
Love, love, LOVE! First album I’ve added to my Spotify library
Absolutely incredible. I am stunned that I never listened to this in full until now.
Did not expect my first 5 star rating in this to be for Fatboy Slim.
- I’ve always loved this album, so this is nostalgic for me. But, it also deserves a high score because it’s fun, funky, melodic, and made to dance to. Funky breakbeats FTW! - A couple of the songs aren’t as good as the others, but it’s mostly banger after banger.
This is the album for guys who like bouncing. woo yeh baby just groove woo groovin non-stop all day yeh 24/7 don't stop woo they groovin you groovin yeah dats what I'm talkin bout good shit mmhmm just groove
Songs are all so long, but bangers none the less
I had disregarded fatboy slim as an artist due to simply his name. I thoroughly enjoyed this album and found it consisted of many songs I knew but was unsure who sang them. Fantastic album that I can’t believe I hadn’t listened to before!
really liked it 5 stars
One of the greatest to ever use technology so joyfully and creatively.
Wow, this was fun! So many bangers. “Right Here, Right Now” replaces “Mr. Brightside” for Bills 4th quarter amp up song.
Banger. Good vibes. Dance. Macht einfach Spaß zu hören. Wiederhörfaktor Hoch
For some reason I never listened to this album, even though we played "Praise you" and "Right here right now" up and down in our youth. The mix of mischief (The Rockafeller Skank), great beats and insanely original video (Praise you) is exceptional. Norman was totally in his element here.
I enjoy his work whenever I come across it and this wasn’t any different. Each track is so fun and only a couple times did I want the track trimmed down a bit. It accomplishes providing an hour of good danceable music. Should I expect anything else out of it? Rating: 4.7
right here right now the rockafeller skank electronica 1998
Love me some fatboyslim
This one has such fun energy and good energy. While some of it gets a bit repetitive it tends to stop before it overstays it's welcome and slip into "I need drugs for this" territory Standouts Right Here, Right Now! Rockafeller Stank 5/5
Amazing
dolbit normal'no
Haven't listened to much of this genre before, and I found it to be a very fun listen. Will definitely revisit.
Knew "Right Here, Right Now" "Rockefeller Skank" and "Praise You" already, but also enjoyed "In Heaven" "Gangster Trippin" and "Soul Surfing"
Effulgent
Loved this album when it came out, got a bit bored of it and came to expect too much of it. Listened to it for the first time today on a car journey and remembered how good it was
Banger after banger had a lot of fun in really liked it
I think this one just about scrapes a 5. It’s phenomenal.
Banger.
Old-school electronic music, kinda Partiboi vibes
The sound of my childhood
We've all come a long way since this album was released, but it still sounds just as good to me today as it did back then. In fact, I can appreciate it far more these days.
I've just been violently flung into my memories of high school. Ouch.
A thing of dance beauty.
Classic. Still holds up.
Absolutely slaps - first 10/10
I think I may have reached an epiphany listening to You've Come a Long Way Baby. I asked the internet why is electronic music so popular in Europe? The less obvious answers are Europe's embrace of disco and its various offshoots, less restrictive club laws, an abundance of music festivals and a general reverence for DJs as artists. However, the real reason, apart from being generally danceable, is that electronic music transcends language and ideology. I mean, you can condense a timeline of European events to 1. electronic music ascends and 2. European Union forms. It seems quite straightforward. In fact, I think electronic music in all its guises would mitigate the political climate in the United States. By the way, another epiphany is that Fatboy Slim is an English DJ and not a mid-aughts alt rock band from Mississippi. So, I give You've Come a Long Way Baby five stars for its sheer import to mankind's past and its future. Now, more than ever, the funk soul brother.
absolutely bonkers. just crazy pants. have you seen my marbles?? i've seemed to have lost them. no highlights because i already had every damn song saved off this album.
Beg beat perfection
The use of samples set a new precedent for dance music, and brought it to the masses. This creates a depth to the tracks that make them super interesting to listen to!
As I predicted the top rated comments miss the mark by a country mile. You can make anything seem unimpressive if you box it in with a simple word like "repetitive". How is that in any way helpful? Why not try "infectious", "energizing" or "blood-pumping"? I find those words do a much better job at capturing the appeal of this music.
Wow - liked this so much. Wasn’t expecting that! Praise You a favorite.
Yeah loved it. made me think about Zoe ball and nostalgia.
First CD album I ever bought. Loved it then, love it now.
Such a fun stroll down 90s memory lane. I’ll add this one to my rotation for sure.
Loved it. From start to finish is a great hype up album. Was always hesitant to listen because when ive heard fat boy slims songs it sounded super repetitive. But hearing the album from start yo finish is chefs kiss
Absolute classic!
Fatboy Slim was my shit in 2nd grade. 5/5
this album goes so hard
great
Not gonna lie, this one was pretty awesome. Not a huge fan of electronic music as most if it goes on too long, this one was pretty awesome. I don’t wanna give you that to deliberately, but I think this is a five star.
Why would any one listen to Coldplay
What a talented artist. No skips, 10/10
Wonderful album.
Perfection.
Unbelievable. Best days of my life.
Ultra classic. Ahead of its time perhaps to this day.
Yes it's repetitive, of cours it is. It is EDM. Electro DANCE music, so try listening to it dancing and feeling it instead of sitting in an overpriced designer chair being a snob
I mean this is great. How do you not like this one? Catchy, fun, nostalgic hits. It's got it all.
Listened to this and it is a great album. 1990s dance music with a variety of existential mashups. A wonderful mix of samples from various decades, samples of strong women’s singing and electronic vibes. One of the first albums I ever owned and reminds me of my youth, dancing at clubs and being electrified on the dance floor.
Been a while…solid
This album I’m pretty sure would be amazing at any point in time in the past or in the future. I saw Fatboy Slim perform at the 930 club in Washington DC and it was electric. I had always previously passed off mixing and DJing as less creative as live music creation but oh man, what a show.
Knew a few off this obviously but the ones I didn’t know blew me away. Amazing
Охуенный альбом,сэмплы,элементы разных жанров,изменение звука каждые 20 секунд,лучший биг бит альбом всех времен Любимый трек:Soul Surfing Худший трек:Love Island Ar:9.87/10
Incredible album
Not often is say this and it's not really MY favourite genre, but take the last track out and I could listen to this album on repeat. Faultless in many ways.
Not many people know that that infamous Brighton Beach incident was actually a result of Houmous & Chutney opening the gig. The surge from the crowd was too much! Of course Norman took all the credit. H&C only opened as an apology to Norman after Len had knocked boots with Zoe Ball. 4.9 9/11 Praise You
Loved this when it dropped. Completely grew out of it after a while. Now I’m middle-aged and inexplicably have a whole new appreciation for this shit again.
Blast from start to finish. We’re past 100 albums & this is easily the most fun shit we’ve had. Read a lot of reviews that are like “duhhhh it’s repetitive” but that’s like saying a rap album has too many words. The original album art is infinitely better. So far I think this is my favorite album we’ve done????
what a fantastic way to start my week. lets go baby
So much fun, and you can tell he doesn’t take himself too seriously.
5/5
I loved this! (I'm not sure about this cover. I hope intent is "way to be, awesome fat kid" but I have doubts.) Anyway just a groovalicious dance romp. Listened while lifting and that was perfect. Had only heard Right Here, Right Now (put to perfect ominous use in Veronica Mars) Rockefeller Skank, and of course Praise You. But dug all of them and didn't even mind that most of them were 6 minutes long. Also wiki'ed him and Fatboy Slim was in the HOUSEMARTINS?!? 5/5
There was a time when there was a 50/50 chance that during a party scene from a movie that a song from this album played. I’ve heard clips of these songs so many times through so many different medias that I was shocked at how long they actually were, and when I paid attention how good they still are. I then listened to a Crystal Method song to compare to that era/genre and it felt massively dated. Really solid from beginning to end.
It is pretty solid early techno stuff
Best DJ to come out of the 90s. His music is definitely great to work out to. High energy and fun, highly recommend.
hehe yeeeeeah
honestly loved this album it was funny it was well written ad just a down right vibe.
очень понравился, конечно подряд его слушать словно сложно, голова устает но он такооооой классный
A classic
9/10 Favorite: In Heaven
Solid album, few saves would revisit. 4.6
Sure, songs are repetitive to the point of absurd, but with almost every one of them being unforgettable even decades later, this is a definition of a 5.
Loved it.
One of the best electronic albums ever conceived.
It really is iconic. The most repetitive songs ever written, maybe, but great lol.
very nice
How many absolute bangers are on this one album is incredible. I'm not even a die hard fan, but Fatboy Slim is an icon, without question
Straight my the roots of my heart. Can be repetitive sometimes, but whatevs
90s banger, not my normal music taste but a lot of nostalgia
Gangster trippin It is the definition of feel good Veo como inspiro la música electrónica después de el
have some of the best songs
I can understand people not getting this. But if you've been in a field or tent as a teenager at one of his shows then it'll become clear. Rhythmic, pounding, heartbeat-altering, bowel-bass-rumbling tunes that you will be drenched in sweat after.
Cover is funny asf, also the name gave me the vibe of a hip-hop album, but it's apparently electronica, low-key cooler hmm not sure, I think I'm gonna like this I usually fuck with albums that have a different take on music, rather than just folksing around, anyway we'll see.. First song, ambient start, and probably it'll continue that way, but more upbeat, big beat stuff as I heard in the preview. The violin is sick here mmm. Great track for a starting song, actually feels like an album's intro. Dammm the beat drop was amazing, this deffo a walking song too. Feels like she's rapping, but just repeating same stuff constantly. At one point in the middle best stopped, she's still repeating the words, and beat is slowly coming in. There's talking at the end, headphone play, and self praising ahah. daaam it's a transition to the Second song, the voice also became clear too, Yum. Tasty production, especially after it starts to build up. I can see that this can be seen as repetitive, but I mean, feel everything else not just words man. Guitar is soloing everything rn. Another walksy song too, I think so anyways, I might not keep up with it. back to the basics I hear. It's getting slower and reverbed AND AAAAAAA WHAT'S THIS SOUND, HEADPHONES HELPED ME A LOT RN AHH GOOD. Conceptually different production, but same lyrics. His voice is the most clear, now he's just repeating smth robotically, it's fine tho I am not bothered by such things. The transition to the Third song doesn't exist, the lyrics are fun tho yumm. Lol I think I'll remember this phrases for a long time idk AaA. Slim fucked around a lot in the literal sense m m m, anyway. Not a bad one you getting that nas waiting for that one jnjqkddhk *I was asleep writing that, I'm not sure what I mean lol*. 4th song, mm one quote is being repeated, and jazz is around kinda. I fw this yea, it's fun. Heavy drum play gotta say. Headphone play is also in action. Oo it's building, stopped aaaaand rap sound increased and continued with a different beat mmm. It seems repetitive but not for me, so much happened already, I'm satisfied with this. 5th song, daam it transitioned into this too. Too fucking good, I walked, fast walked with this shit, so fucking good. 6th song, good as the last one, best shit for walking y'all, also production is amazing too of course, can't even write anything, this too fun to waste. 7th song, hard to walk with, he says tropical in a mm funny way ig. This is a grower, I like it now, but compared to others it's a weaker one. 8th song, great start already mm. Lyrics were delivered too well, liked them too, unironically speaking. One of the best ones here tbh. 9th song, after so much beat on beat, this start is a fresh to my ears.. now it's stuck tho, better start walking. One of the best ones this too, the sample was too good to not mention, plus the build up beat drops were top notch. 10th song, I'm 1/4 into the song and it's already done some wtf moments, the beat iny right ear, the overall vibe, the buildup, walking calls me. This is my favorite song of the album for sure, I heard some reggaeton here, love that shit. Everything was perfect and not overdone, fuck I didn't expect this to go this hard. 11th song, the name says it all, it's good shit, I didn't know I fucked with this as much as I apparently do. Definitely want more from this guy, he's a producer too so, dream has been realifyed. The end part did feel like the album wrapped up, love when that happens. I didn't realize when I started this, but this is a definitely 5/5 album, no questions, I think I'll listen to these tracks if they ever come up and of course because of my will too. I can see how many wouldn't see anything in this, but for me, especially today I'm surprised how good this turned out to be. There is a big time gap after lie 4th song, because I got busy with stuff, so I don't remember what happens up up there, but even so the album gave me something I didn't know I lacked.
I'm not a big electronica fan, but I bought this back in the day. I loved it then and still do. Yeah, it's very repetitive, and that would normally annoy me, so I have no idea what kind of magic is woven into this album to entice me like it does. Favorite tunes: Right Here, Right Now, Kalifornia and Praise You
This album got heavy rotation in the car back in the day. The single CD changer=I rocked this for a week or two of commutes before changing.
This is the 184th album I’m rating. I listened to Better Living Through Chemistry and it was awful. Adding to my Playlist - Right Here, Right Now, The Rockafeller Skank, Fucking in Heaven, Gangster Tripping, Build It Up – Tear It Down, Kalifornia, Soul Surfing, You're not from Brighton, Praise You, and Love Island. Not Adding to my Playlist - Acid 8000. Right Here, Right Now - I guess Fatboy Slim needed a couple years to actually get good. Praise You - This song is weirdly familiar. I wonder where I heard it before. Maybe I just heard the song that it samples. I just remembered where I heard it from. It was a YouTuber. Acid 8000 - This reminds me too much of the last album I listened to. All in all I liked 10/11 songs. This version of Fatboy Slim is much better. The last album was very boring and made me hate big beat. However, this album is much much better even though it does have one song that is a bit too much like Better Living Through Chemistry.
"Right Here Right Now" opens this album up... and what a song to do the job! Norman Quentin Cook is about my age... and he knows what it takes to get a booty shakin'!!! Before he became this monster DJ, he was the bassist for The Housemartins... that explains his ability to groove... Trip Hop... Nu Funk... indeed... as anyone knows, i'm a real instruments, real vocals, no frills kind of guy... but, i love good music... whether it be jazz, soul, or classical... and this is good music... how do i know? i feel it... "Right Here Right Now" GETS THE PARTY STARTED! "Rockefellar Skank" is next... right about now... the funk soul bruver... lol... if you don't like this cut, you don't like groceries... fat boy slim is fucking in heaven!! lolol... "In Heaven" is next... bad ass groove again... the use of cameo vocal snips, and jazzy breakdowns, and flat out dead air for a second, are some of the delights of this album... "Gangster Trippin'" keeps it goin'... every cut is cool... for example "Soul Surfing" into "You're Not From Brighton" into... the blissful "Praise You"... which turns a simple piano riff and bass pattern into an uplifting experience... if you are not dancing to this you must be injured... the way the piano and bass change into a Beatle-esque extravaganza and back again is just PURE... is every song a homerun? no... but... it gest Five big Stars from me...
Very familiar with this albums big hits. And good to listen to as a cohesive whole.
Loved this - very sad I missed his Coachella set rhis year
Iconic. Some of my first and most fond memories of electronic alternative? Not sure what it would be categorized as
This album is perfect to study to. It feels like a blast from the past but not in an overwhelming way.
it’s a classic
Today I learnt that there are people that don't like Fat Boy Slim. I hope they're ok.
5 ⭐️ for nostalgia than anything. Has some banger tracks. Favorite track: rockefeller skank other picks: right here right now, in heaven, gangster trippin, praise you
Not normally what I'd listen to but this whole album slaps.
FUNK SOUL BROTHER
걍 존나좋은거지 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Such a good album. Back when you could sample anything. Historic
swag made palpable
A bangeR.
I skipped a few albums to get this in with Aphex Twin and Moby in the same night, because they sort of represent the three most successful prongs of electronic music in the 90s. Moby had the enormous crossover appeal by tapping into the pop consciousness of American music; Aphex Twin had the critics swooning (especially in the UK) with his darker, minimalistic techno Fatboy Slim sort of occupied the middle path between them, at least from an American perspective. I remember hearing his remix for "Brimful of Asha" on the radio here, including, yes, WBCN, which is featured on this very album. I can't say I heard that particular phone call that plays as the lead-in to the superb "Rockafeller Skank" but there's no doubt in my mind it's legit. BCN used to get some insane calls, especially during the evening show, which I'm pretty sure this was, given that the DJ in the clip is Bradley Jay (which is confusing, given that the caller's name is also Brad). That infectious enthusiasm about Fatboy Slim was a real thing for about 4 or 5 years, spanning the turn of the millennium, but it inarguably peaked with the video for "Praise You", which starred and was directed by Spike Jonze (made while he was working on his debut film, Being John Malkovich). It was inescapable, and the album became inescapable, part of the soundtrack to the last couple of pre-9/11 summers. Those times didn't last, and weirdly, neither did Fatboy Slim; he basically stopped releasing new music 20 years ago. But it's not nostalgia speaking when I say that this album still absolutely cooks, more than a quarter of a century later.
don’t you want to dance?
I feel like this kind of music is extremely polarizing and might get annoying in certain contexts. Super simple stuff, lot of the same samples over and over and over again. But… idk, I found myself movin’. Great beats and it never felt too samey to me. I can’t help but love it. I’ll call it a guilty pleasure. I knew a few before listening to the album. The Rockafeller Skank has an extremely nostalgic connection for me, but it’s good regardless (maybe a little too long). Praise You is awesome. Gangster Trippin was a new one to me and it slaps. Found myself bopping along to most of the middle of the album too. I’ll definitely be revisiting this one.
Man this album rocks. It is blistering, fast, and merciless. Very rarely do i think it's ok for an album to be over an hour, but I honestly found myself looping it and wanting more.
Dance electro masterpiece by a DJ. Wonderful.
great. amazing. fun. the rockafeller skank was on one of the weird playlists my mom made me when i was a child so i like it even more
Great album, still sounds fresh and not much like it
Classic bangers
Loved it.
Loved this. Repetitive in all the right ways.
Love me some Fatboy Slim. Repetitive, yes, but also super fun. I enjoyed every minute of it. Easy 5.
Mid per me
Never realized how good this album was. To quote the album, “if this don’t move your booty; you’re booty might be dead”
Music for fucking (and being fucked) in heaven. Track 3 is called, 'Fucking in Heaven' and I think we can all agree that if there is no sex in heaven they need to be sued for false advertising. Imagine you somehow end up in heaven, you are mad horny (dying will do that sometimes) and as you seek some carnal satisfaction (we still have bodies, right?) you see a big sign that reads NO FUCKING IN HEAVEN - YOU ARE ABOVE THAT NOW - LOVE GOD XOXO ... but there must be- there simply better be! Fun body music! Dance! Fuck! Fight! Keep moving! You've Come a Long Way Baby by Fat Boy Slim makes me want to dance naked under the stars and in my book, you simply can't ask for much more from an album.
Ще ми се всичката електронна музика да е такава
Funk soul Brother
Classic!
A fantastic album from start to finish
i fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking love this album
Great beats, great energy. This is what electronic music should be. After all these years, I still can't believe that that's Norman Cook from the Housemartins! Liked Songs Added: The Rockafeller Skank Soul Surfing Praise You Love Island Acid 8000
A mix of funk, electronic music, hiphop and maybe a bit of jazz. This album is superb and a staple piece of the 90s
Weird. Sproingly. Sometimes objectively bad. But hell yeah I'm gonna listen to it multiple times >:D
not mine but was a changing album
This album is outrageously good. Not usually an EDM fan but this album is wall to wall bangers! The Rockefeller Skank is an absolute classic, so is Praise You. But there's not a weak song on the whole album. FBS just has a completely unique style which is unmatched even to this day.
Love it!
Proper good one, parents spammed some of these when I was a kid and they still hold up
This 100% belongs in top 50 best albums ever.
What an absolute vibe to work to!
I mean bringing EDM to Pop world is pretty crazy. And listening to this it’s easy to understand why.
As one of my friends said, Fat Bos Slim it's like Tarantino in Music.
This album is a party ready to go. Norman Cook is a musical chameleon and genius on the level of Damon Albarn.
Solid album all the way through
Its fatboy sliiiiiiiim
This was awesome. I knew a few of these already, and they were (of course) wonderful, but the rest were great too. I listened to this twice -- five stars.
Fun to finally sit down for a full record from a big name. Great even though it kind of sounds monotonous, it shines in that monotony. Awesome energy.
Iconic
This is why I follow this list. This album is awesome! And even though I’m familiar with a few songs idk if I ever would’ve listened to the full album in its entirety. And this album is amazing, it’s fun and silly and really creative. Honestly this album is just a no skip experience. Go listen to it.
This is one of my most favorite dance albums of all time! I remember hearing it the first time I did in highschool or middle school and I was just blown away and also Right Here, Right Now, The Rockefeller Skank, Praise you?! Classics! 5 or if 5 album
Totally forgot about this album. Super fun
Loved it. From the album cover to the music. I should put him in my rotation more.
FATBOY SLIM IS FUCKING IN HEAVEN. FATBOY SLIM IS FUCKING IN HEAVEN. FATBOY SLIM IS FUCKING IN HEAVEN. FUCKING IN, FUCKING IN, FUCKING IN HEAVEN. Masterpiece. 10/10.
Great album. I haven't listened to it in a while.
Another one that comes my youth! I love this album and will never forget seeing Fat Boy Slim at Red Rocks.
Who cannot fail to like these well known Anthems. Brilliant
An absolute banger of an album
one of the best & most unstoppably energetic records of all time. i'll leave it at that with the confidence that more eloquent ppl have put better words to why this is the case. i'm glad to belong to a species that produced this combination of sounds
One of those records where I thought I’d never heard a single song off of it, but it turns out I’ve heard every song off of it, just completely out of context. If you find this repetitive, you just don’t enjoy electronic music, I don’t know what to tell you. Fatboy Slim strikes the perfect balance between vibe curation and intricate clockwork. It never feels as complex as it is, and you never lose the groove. I don’t think any single moment on here hits the peak of Big Beat, but as a collective, You’ve Come a Long Way Baby is so quintessentially Big Beat that it might as well be seen as Best in Show™️. And that’s not to deny how absolutely great “The Rockafeller Skank,” “Fucking in Heaven,” and “Praise You” are, and those are far from my favorite moments when compared to “Gangster Tripper” and “Right Here, Right Now.” Really, really impressed by this record. I think I’m just a ‘90s club kid born way too late.
Way Good
Groovy sixties
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 9/10 I agree that the album might be considered repetitive. But as a counter argument, that is what makes most house/electronic music so good. Furthermore, older electronic dance music tracks are simply just longer than more recent ones. Like it or not, it just cannot be denied how influential Fatboy Slim is for dance music. Samples which can still be recognized 25 years after the release of the album. Maybe the closest we've been to such an influential album is 10 years ago with the release of Settled by Disclosure. Personally Fatboy Slim remains to be an artist which I'd love to see perform live someday. Favourite tracks: Right Here, Right Now Rockafeller Skank In Heaven Gangster Trippin Praise you Acid 8000 Least favourite tracks: Kalifornia
Great
Made me feel like I was in high school again.
Surprised how into this I was!
Right here, right now... Right here, right now... Yep, yep, labs albums!
Amazing album. I remember when it came it, how massive it was. Listening today. It still blows the roof . 5/5
One of the coolest albums i know. When i was in highschool i was trying to become a deejay and got a gig in a bar, I had recently discovered this album and ended up playing the whole thing cuz I thought it was perfect and everyone was having a good time. So why try harder??? 🤷❤️
this guy kicks ass
You can put forward a very strong argument that Big Beat was as important a part of British music culture of the 90s as Britpop was. Fatboy Slim was instrumental in bringing it to the mainstream; this album was pretty ubiquitous for about a decade, between Rockefeller Skank and Praise You being big hits and Right Here, Right Now popping up in all sorts of places. And even now with more mature ears, it’s still a really consistent album that encapsulates his style and the whole movement perfectly. I thought my opinion of it might have cooled over time but I just don’t think I can justify not giving this a full 5 stars. I love it.
It's barely believable that this album is almost 30 years old. It was one of the first albums of it's kind. There are multiple tracks on here that absolutely became anthems, and several others that were overshadowed by these through no fault of their own. If you don't like, or at least appreciate, this album you should check your pulse.
Classic nostalgia fest. We don't get enough dance music in this list, although a solid ninety minutes of dance hits is hard to achieve.
I only found out recently that the "Right Here, Right Now" sample quote is Angela Bassett in "Strange Days". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmL5uWrvUUM Overhyped, overplayed, yup, but there's way too much nostalgia with this album that I couldn't give it anything less than a 5.
the biggest and phattest beats from the undisputed king of big beat. plenty of tracks, both ones you've heard on the radio at least a thousand times and more underground beats that are worth a deep dive into. quentin cook has truly mastered the big beatmaking process, every single flip from who knows what vinyl is done in a way so effectively, every loud thump of the drums and every repeating vocal chop is infectious. it's electronic genres like these that dominated the culture and style of the 1990s, and to this day it has a fresh sound unlike any other. fatboy slim is fucking in heaven.
Timeless classic took me back to my youth
einfach fast alles mega nice songs
Catchy as heck. Totally mainstream and this was everywhere back in the day. My wife says it was one of her favourite albums and enjoyed listening to it on our Christmas shopping trip today. It’s not high art but Norman really knows what he’s doing with music like this. Somewhere between a 4 and a 5. It can be a 5 just to piss anyone off who hates it - at least it isn’t fucking Rumours for the 576th time.
Proper tunes!
Incredibly consistent album song-quality wise
Funk soul brotheeeeeeer
I mean, I was born in England in 1991, bangers bang, what am I supposed to say. It feels a little overstuffed at points, and I think it'd be like a 4.5 if we had more granular scoring available, but we're rounding up for just how high the highs are.
"If this don't make your booty move, your booty must be dead!" As an elder millennial, I grew up hearing loads of these songs absolutely everywhere - and unlike many elder millennials, I still bloody love them! This album is not necessarily going to win any awards for lyrics, but you can't help but dance to it - the star rating is just for the personal party I have each and every time I listen to this, even twenty years after its release. Faves: Build Em Up, Break Em Down; Praise You; Right Here Right Now
Right about now-the funk soul brother! I love this album. Instrumentally it’s perfection. Lyrically it’s just random phrases and words and they somehow make perfect sense. Quentin is a genius- his work with the Beasties, Tribe, even the incredible David Byrne should be a bio of its own.
So nice, I listened twice! Fatboy Slim is top notch. 'Right Here, Right Now' wins my fave, though I love the album as a whole.
Breakbeat samples delivered like a chocolate box: a sugary technicolor acid funk explosion.
Excellent stuff.
Fatboy Slim sure knows how to make a repetitive beat interesting all throughout. Nice build-up, nice production, banger tracks. That IS how you do an electronic album.
This was just a banger era for electronic music. Full of hits and brimming with energy. Repetitive by modern standards but the sound design and production hold up. 10/10 A well deserved classic
Yes
Amazing
This shit rules. Energy and hooks for days. Can't recommend enough.

Bangin!
One of the best dance albums.
imagine the most annoying guy you know made an album but it was somehow a banger
Grandioses Techno-Album, das es meisterhaft versteht, moderate Acid- und Rap-Aspekte im Techno zu integrieren. Es überzeugt durch drei herausragende Songs der Ära: “The Rockafeller Skank”, “Right Here, Right Now” und “Praise You”. Diese Tracks sind wahre Klassiker und definieren das Album. Neben diesen Meilensteinen bietet das Album weitere fantastische Techno-Schätze wie “Build It Up - Tear It Down”, “Kalifornia” und “Acid 8000”.
Still a great album that made me smile so often while listening to it. Good vibes only!
5-
arguably brought pop electronica to the masses. white boys think they're cool.
🔥
9/10
Love this album. Bought it the week it was released and enjoyed listening to it again for the first time in ages. Peak Big Beat party tunes
You've Come a Long Way, Baby is Fatboy Slim's second album, and is his most successful studio work. Fatboy Slim makes techno or big beat dance tracks that are driven, and engaging. He weaves a variety of samples into a mixture with a consistent rhythm, and whimsical samples mixed around it. He developed a style that became a standard for producers and DJs all over the world. Fatboy Slim has recorded only four studio album, and released a number of singles. Most of his long career has been as a DJ, remixing his own track. This album includes a handful of tracks that made Fatboy Slim internationally famous.
Love this album!
That was a bitchin' album
I grew up right next to Brighton, where Norman Cook is from. He is a local legend. His music was unavoidable in the late 90s and early-mid 00s. He played on the radio constantly, performed in Brighton regularly, and was always being played at gatherings. As has often been the case in this project, I've never actually listened to this album front to back so I'm looking forward to it! The transition from Right Here, Right Now to Rockafeller Skank is so good. I laughed as it happened. This was a great album to have on in the background. The songs are varied, while keeping the unmistakable Fatboy Slim sound. My favorites are the ones everyone knows. I enjoyed You're Not From Brighton & Kalifornia a lot as well. This album is iconic. 9/10
Every time I hear an album that feels made for the club or at least uses heavy sampling and repetition as its main vibe, I’m continually surprised by how much I enjoy it. It’s a very specific vibe, a very specific mood, but it hits. For me, there isn’t much else to say except that this is just fun to listen to. It works as background music, it works as music you want to dance or groove to, and it works as music you can actually pick apart and think about to see how it works. I never thought I’d do this, but this gets five stars. And I’m pretty ok with that. Oh but I hate the cover. And “Kalifornia” and its robot voice. Robot voice is something I would remove from music entirely if I could. It sucks. Standout Tracks: The Rockefeller Skank, Fucking in Heaven, Gangster Trippin, Build it Up, Tear it Down, Soul Surfing, Praise You
"Kids today don't know what it's like to get their hands dirty." - FatBoy Slim, on cratedigging
Some of the best electronic tracks to come out of the 90s, bar none. Norman Cook is a genius behind the turntables.
Well, that’s a masterclass in how to make repetition sound compelling. This is definitely getting a 5 from me; I thought the energy and the vibes were great here, and that’s why it’s getting a 5. In terms of the tracks by themselves, I would say a couple of them hit on the repetition for a bit long in a way where they began to really lose their luster, but most of them kept the energy throughout in a really strong way, even with the repetition. The only real thing I can nitpick this album for is the length; I don’t think that everything on here had to be around 5 minutes, and I especially don’t think Acid 8000 had to be 7 and a half minutes… but that’s a nitpick. The vibes are good, the energy is great, the sample work is immaculate, and I felt pretty captivated for most of those 62 minutes. Super cool album, and a hell of a proper introduction to Fatboy Slim for me – that was really fun. Easy 5.
BOMB ASS ALBUM!
I have to celebrate you, "You've Come a Long Way Baby". I have to praise you like I should.
I almost gave this one a 4/5, but then a bout of the 'tism hit at the same moment "praise you" started and I said fuck it we ball.
Felt so happy that I discovered it! It feels like this albumhas inspired so much incredible music that I've lustened to. The songs are imperfect but bold, exploratory
Those first two tracks are amazing
Another album I don't even have to listen to. I know the whole thing front to back and back to front. Praise You is one of the low points of the album (and always has been). Starts with two absolute bangers. Track 3 is a meme before memes that I remember saying "Where is he?" "What's he doing" between the lyrics with my college housemates. Core memory unlocked. Overall this was one of the best albums I had ever heard at the time and was part of the small set of albums that drew me into the genre.
Used to have this on CD back in the day. Singles are etched into my brain. Forgot how good the rest of it is. I may indeed have come a long way, baby, but my musical tastes haven't changed in the 25 years since this came out. Fatboy is fucking in heaven and so am I.
Yes!
To be honest i was really in the mood for some 90s music so this review is a little bit biased but overall really liked this
What an album! In my head canon Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy make the big trio of electronic music from 90/2000s. And this record is just amazing from start to finish, with three bangers, that will stay on my favourite lists forever. 10/10
Previous British electronica artists from the 90's got a lot of hate from me. Fatboy Slim is a hard exception from me. He was my personal childhood introduction to the world of electronic music.Especially "Right Here Right Now" and "The Rockafeller Skank" have a special place in my heart. In early 2000's these songs were a defintion of coolness for me. And they still are.
4.5
Right Here Right Now.
Repeatative sure, but why not repeat greatness?
I've come a long, long way together Through the hard times and the good I have to celebrate it, baby I have to praise it like I should
The king of using sampling to create infectious hooks. Overall this album just makes me happy. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I honestly only knew a few songs from the full album and even the ones I didn’t know, I enjoyed.
Love this!
Biased as I have loved Fatboy Slim for a long time, but there just isn't anyone who makes music that sounds or feels quite like this.
It’s funny to think I was listening to this on a tape Walkman in my dad’s car whilst others were listening to it on a cocktail of ecstasy and acid. I really enjoyed it, it was good fun and sums up the 90s well.
Screamer of an album - a worthy first 5 stars.

I'm curious if I would like Fatboy at all if I weren't already so familiar with these first two track on this album. But as it is I can only bask in this unholy amalgamation of sound and dance.
