Honestly, kind of a fun reminder of a certain time and place, except for the risible "All in the Family" which is a mortifying reminder of a certain time and place.
So weird to have a rapper's debut album also be their more polished, non-problematic stuff.

Not my cup of tea! Mostly perfectly fine funk.
This stuff must have been mind-blowing in the Weimar Republic, and it's pretty cool to release an album of pro-worker German cabaret songs in 1988, but this was absolutely not for me! I don't like stench, I don't like garbage!
Shocked by how boring I found this one apart from Paint It Black. I think I am simultaneously too young and too old for The Rolling Stones.
Weirdly hard to evaluate Rod Stewart as an actual musician and not just like an object my uncles were into. Will have to come back to this one, three stars for now.
Hard to give an album including "Dumb Girl" five stars, but this one is so solid otherwise. Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good.
I like "La Grange" as much as the next guy, but I'm nowhere near divorced enough to sit here and listen to a full ZZ Top album. Sorry to this man.
I mean, this thing is a masterpiece, in the classical sense.
"Enjoy The Silence" sometimes feels like it might be a perfect song.
I read about a culture where, instead of saying they don't like a certain food, they say "I don't know how to eat this". I feel that I don't know how to listen to 2112. It's certainly not BAD.
Man, this one got me in the right mood I guess. Loved it.
I can acknowledge that the production is great and also feel like I just didn't enjoy listening to most of it. I think I like the Beastie Boys stupider than this!
Honestly "Perfect Day" brings this rating up by a full star all by itself.

Halfway through I was like "Okay, I get it but it's not for me, three stars" but I decided to be fair and keep listening to the end. Two stars!!!! NOT FOR ME!
I have to celebrate you, "You've Come a Long Way Baby". I have to praise you like I should.
Sometimes you get one of these albums where it quickly becomes very clear, I did not need to hear this before I die.
This thing absolutely SMOKES, holy shit. Rarely does a live album feel this essential.
I put on track one immediately after leaving a screening of Furiosa and I was like, this is the best album ever. Then I listened to the rest of it the next day while running errands and stuff. You need the appropriate context for this kind of thing!
The symphony really helps them break the "we're so tough and scary" kayfabe in an appealing way. Usually I just roll my eyes at these guys.
Not for me but fascinating. In the forest there is every type of bird.
TUSK
Trying to get into this music feels like trying to pick up an extremely smooth, slippery ball. It keeps sliding out of my grasp. Who is this for??
By all rights should be 1 star, but "Rolllin' " and the Mission: Impossible theme are just too much stupid fun. Also, it is hilarious in retrospect that "My Generation" is about Generation X.
I mean this thing has some SINGLES
Basically the platonic ideal of a three star album. This thing isn't hurting anybody.
Kanye has said some heinous shit over the last few years, but he also said "Too many Urkels on your team, that's why your wins low", and we do have to respect that.
Deeply, thoroughly inessential.
Brief Interviews with Hideous Men
"The Denial Twist" always has me making the most unacceptable John Mayer guitar faces from the first note. Love it.
Undeniably influential, but not really my thing. The distracting soundtrack of the sketchiest basement you've ever hung out in.
I thought I would hate this when it started, but like the creeps at the center of all these songs, it gradually wore me down. I think "This is not a sin, it's not even original" is when I started to get on the same page.
I'm torn. This was a really good listen, the musicians are so talented and the performances are incredible, but I cannot imagine ever having the desire to hear it again, which I think has to be part of what makes a great album. Experiencing this live would be the best, but relistening to improvised music seems crazy. Do I maybe just take issue with the concept of jazz recordings?
How good is Frontier Psychiatrist, though
I can't say that I enjoyed it exactly, but I've given less fascinating albums 3 stars for at least being interesting and this was certainly that.
This was almost three stars because, even though it's not my thing, it's such a specific and intentional vision. But it's like REALLY not my thing.
A lot of individual moments I liked but the whole was just not for me.
Fascinatingly ahead of its time but still not my thing.
I liked this album of mostly covers way more than I expected. Great energy.
So weird to have a rapper's debut album also be their more polished, non-problematic stuff.
This is, literally and figuratively, a load of soft jazz.
This thing hits like crazy when you're 20 and sad and kind of stupid.
Listened to the "Director's Cut" by accident, then found out I had to listen to the original release, STILL didn't like it. Influential I assume, but DULL.
Possibly the most precisely 3.5 album I've run into on here. It's better than a three, they know exactly what they're doing and are nailing it, but giving it a full four stars feels crazy. But I'm limited by the tools available to me, so congratulations, this thing really wails.
Feels like watching a really experienced accountant filling out tax documents. You might not enjoy it but you have to appreciate the competency.
What has nine arms and is actually a bit better than you would expect, given its contemporaries?
I can't believe that this project convinced me to listen to a Jamiroquai album that's not the one with Virtual Insanity on it
I never do this, but this thing was an immediate 1 star once the second track was a spoken word poem and track three was the same poem as song lyrics. It demonstrates either a profound lack of faith in the music or a WILD overestimation of the quality of the poem. Anyway, that put this thing into a hole that the remainder of it wasn't nearly good enough to crawl out of.
You have not been paying attention
This is like a bowl of Lucky Charms - it's for kids, it has zero nutritional value, but good lord it's tasty if you don't have too much of it.
